I mean, what a game? What a series?
Speaker 4 (01:58):
Right?
Speaker 5 (01:58):
What a game? What a series?
Speaker 6 (02:01):
I I don't want to get ahead of myself, right,
Like I've been a Clippers fan my whole life.
Speaker 5 (02:08):
I know what they're capable of.
Speaker 6 (02:09):
I saw it in Game one in overtime after being
up by I don't even know how many. I don't
want to thank you, thank you so much. I appreciate it,
just for the record. Yeah, you gotta hold me accountable.
You're right, I don't want to get ahead of myself.
But man, seeing Kawhi play like he did last night,
seeing the Clippers play like they have even though they
lost Game one, I'm like, yeah, I'm going to the finals.
Speaker 5 (02:31):
I'm going to the finals. I don't want to get
ahead of myself.
Speaker 4 (02:34):
I say that you're so far ahead of yourself because
everybody is wondering when the other shoe drops with the Clippers.
I know, I hate to say it like that is
the feeling. But when you saw what happened last night
in the NBA and the Pistons are probably going back
to Detroit, Yeah they're happy, they're even with the Knicks.
They're sitting there saying maybe the same thing that you
were saying was gosh, we could be up to oh
(02:56):
he going back home. Absolutely, actually think the Pistons have
more of an argument, maybe even in their situation, considering
the collapse that they had in the fourth they lost
that first it's not like they were great closing it
out last night.
Speaker 5 (03:08):
They were not, and the Knicks weren't good. That's what
it was.
Speaker 4 (03:11):
Yeah, that's what saved them.
Speaker 5 (03:12):
That's what saved them.
Speaker 6 (03:13):
Absolutely correct with the Clippers in Game one, the Nuggets
had to make big plays.
Speaker 5 (03:17):
They had to make.
Speaker 6 (03:17):
The shots, even though the Clippers had their turnovers and
it obviously costs us the game.
Speaker 5 (03:22):
It was different.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
The Knicks have Jalen Brunson, who can make great shots,
no doubt about it. Brunson's one of the best in
the NBA. I think that the Pistons have been missing
Kid Cunningham. The Nuggets didn't have it last night with
Jokic turnover in the final minute and then their last
possession wasn't anything good. But the Clippers have it with Kawhi.
(03:44):
They absolutely do have it with Kawhi. And that's what
was so amazing to see last night. Was it felt
like and I'm gonna say six years because I think
that the lasting memory and the great memories of Kawhi
and a Clipper Kawhi in a basketball we're winning that
NBA title with the Raptors, everything that the drama that
came with it, him signing with the deciding to sign
(04:06):
with the Clippers. Throughout various points, there have been more
lows than hies with the Clippers, But last night took
you in the way back machine. And maybe Piston's fans
want to say, all right, Kate Cunningham's gonna take us
in the fast forward machine of what could be. But
last night was a blast from the past and really vindicated.
I think what so many people, maybe like you Monty,
(04:28):
have been waiting for his Clippers fans, is for this
Kawhi Leonard to show up. And when that Kawhi Leonard
shows up, it is a fun watch unless you have
skin in the game. On the other side, he is
silky smooth. He is he is. He has the clutch
gene and just his ability to get his shots where
he wants to get his shots evident in his thirty
(04:51):
nine point effort last night in the win. A fun,
fun watch if you are a basketball lover and not
a Nuggets fan. Last night, and.
Speaker 5 (04:58):
That's the big part of it.
Speaker 6 (04:59):
It's like he wasn't just taking a bunch of threes.
He was playing fundamental basketball from beginning to end. And
when he wants to score, he will score, and kind
of like when you watch Jokich, you're watching two great
basketball players at the same time who necessarily aren't the fastest.
When Kawhi Leonard drives in to get a mid range shot,
(05:21):
he's not fast, he's not elusive, He's just fundamental. And
I don't know if it's these young guys have forgotten
how to guard a player who's just playing fundamental basketball.
Speaker 5 (05:30):
But it amazes me how he can get any shot
he wants.
Speaker 6 (05:34):
Thirty nine points, twelve of them were threes, the rest
mid range shots that he gets for himself.
Speaker 5 (05:40):
It is I've seen this.
Speaker 6 (05:42):
Kawhi do this in the four years as a Clipper
every now and then during the regular season, but I
haven't seen him do it in the playoffs because he
hasn't been healthy, not once, and so to see it
in a playoff game was so exciting because I have
seen this. I've been watching Clipper games, you know, since
he since I was little. But with him, he does
this during the regular season and then we get to
(06:03):
the playoffs and the story has been he's not healthy.
Speaker 4 (06:06):
And I think that the Clippers fans, like yourself, will
be happily along for the ride. But to me, the
conversation is just so much about Kawhi. There is something
about Kawhi and when you look at the modern NBA player,
just any NBA player. I think this with basketball at
any level. There are guys who are freakishly athletic, girls
(06:29):
that are freakishly athletic. They're those who are smarter than
others that end up knowing the game of basketball. And
when you can combine those talents and nowhere you need
to get your spot. Honestly, it is what makes the
best of the best the best. It may sound very superficial,
(06:50):
but there's a reason why Steph Curry can do what
he can do, and it's not just make shots from
thirty nine feet. I think Lebron's got one of the
best minds that we've had in basketball. I mean, and
plus he's got twenty years of information that's now been
logged in his brain of knowing how things work. I
think that Kawhi has always had that innate sense of
(07:11):
knowing where to be and how to be and where
to get where to get to where he needs to be.
Now that may have been honed in San Antonio, may
have been at that point brought out, but as he's
continued on his career, whether it be then in Toronto
or the oft injured time with the Clippers. The one
thing that you can't deny is he knows where to
be and how to get his shots. The thirty nine
(07:33):
points last night, fifteen of nineteen shooting, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (07:36):
He started five for five. I think it took him
a while to miss his first shot.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
Yeah, fifteen, Yeah, the fifteen of nineteen from the floor.
That's I mean efficient in a day and age where
we're chucking up threes and only getting layups. The eight
footer that he hits that looks like it doesn't even
get above the rim, but then slides in. There is
something beautiful about watching Kawhi Leonard play basketball. Truly, there
is name and player that you think that moves around
(08:02):
like him and plays like him where he's almost in
slow motion. And so Mantzi, while you're loving the Clippers
and you're keeping your fingers crossed that he stays healthy,
I'm sitting there wondering, this is great to see, and
it's even better that it's not happening against my Bucks
in the Eastern Conference Finals. That was awesome that it
wasn't happening to me What was great was is this
(08:23):
now the story to carry on? Meaning do people start
to rally if this season the Clippers end up winning
the series and they go to the next round, and
let's say they knock off Oklahoma City, we expect them
to play in the next round and they get to
the Eastern Conference finals. Is there enough with Kawhi and
what he's done in his career and the ups and
downs of his career for the general public to rally
(08:46):
around him.
Speaker 5 (08:47):
I think the answer to that is yes. Aside from
Laker fans who probably don't want.
Speaker 4 (08:53):
The Clippers to win, it understood.
Speaker 5 (08:56):
Absolutely, I get that.
Speaker 6 (08:58):
I do think that basketball fans can get behind Kawhi
and the Clippers if they continue on this run. And
it's because of him the ups and downs that you
just mentioned. But also he's so he's so mysterious.
Speaker 5 (09:14):
He's been in the league how long.
Speaker 6 (09:15):
We know the health stuff, But like, he doesn't say anything,
He's never on social media.
Speaker 5 (09:19):
He's literal with his responses, which are hilarious. How is
your team feeling? I don't know. I haven't gone to
the locker room. I'm not sure.
Speaker 6 (09:26):
Those are his answers, which are amazing. Every single time
after the game. He just sat there after being the star.
It's I think his personality or what should we say,
lack thereof personality also helps as to why you.
Speaker 5 (09:39):
Might root for Kawhi.
Speaker 4 (09:41):
Yeah, I think that's I think that's fair. I think
that when you look at players that get up in age,
like now, we've had Kawhi in our lives for well
over a decade on and off, that that's why you
would rally behind him as well.
Speaker 5 (09:54):
Right, But literally, literally we don't know anything. I know
he likes wingstop, but aside from that, I don't know
much about him because he doesn't say much.
Speaker 4 (10:00):
Yeah, where's new balance? We see what we see in
that in that commercial. By the way, watch that commercial.
Watch his crossover dribble. Yeah, and just watch how smooth
that is for the for the for the eight tenths
of a second that it's on the screen like you've
got you've got Tyree Smaxi, You've got Cameron Brink, You've
got other stars in there, Show Hayes in there if
(10:22):
they do the big run. But watch Kawhi do is
his crossover dribble with his enormous hands. I mean it's
like a he's dribbling a ping pong, but it looks
so smooth, and that's that's something that Kawhi brings and
I think that we were all reminded of that, and
in a way, when we kind of go back into
the way back machine, we start to think of, all, right,
(10:43):
who can we root for. I think that Steph Curry
is at a point, even with the title just a
few years ago, that people wouldn't mind seeing Steph Curry
win another title. I don't think people wherever Kevin Durant
plays next, I don't think that people are going to
rally behind Kevin Durant and say, oh, I want Katie
to get that one last run. I don't think that
that's the case. I think there's a select group of
(11:04):
players and athletes in a wide range of sports that
you start to rally behind because of maybe they're getting
a little long in the tooth, maybe this could be
the last hurrah. Maybe you as a fan want to
live the way that you felt six, eight, ten years
ago in them putting forth that effort on the court
allows you to feel that way. And so I wondered
(11:26):
last night, if the Clippers go on a run, does
Kawhi rally the masses, and now Kawhi becomes the story
of the NBA playoffs when people are sick of Lebron
and the Lakers. Maybe they don't want Steph. You're a
Celtics hater, maybe you're over that. You're maybe not connected
to Oklahoma City or Cleveland. Does Kawhi Leonard Garner up
(11:47):
enough love to push him through and gather that love
throughout a playoff run?
Speaker 6 (11:53):
I really think he does. And it's kind of what
you just said. He's been in front of our screens
for so many years that there's history to it. Maybe
you are not behind okay, see, because there's not a
lot of history with that team.
Speaker 5 (12:05):
It's a young, fresh team.
Speaker 6 (12:07):
Right With Kawhi, there's history, and if you've been following him,
you kind of do maybe feel like one last hurrah
and to bring it to another franchise that has never won.
Speaker 5 (12:18):
Listen like this, if he.
Speaker 6 (12:20):
Manages to get I don't even I'm not even you know,
obviously I want them to win.
Speaker 5 (12:23):
But let's say he just gets the Clippers to the finals.
Let's just say, but they don't win.
Speaker 6 (12:27):
Kawhi doing that to a franchise that has never been
to the finals adding what he did with Toronto.
Speaker 5 (12:32):
It's there's so there's his story just gets even bigger.
Speaker 6 (12:36):
When I I hate that we don't talk about Kawhi
already the way we should because who has done that?
Who has been traded to a team and had to
them their first championship in mid season?
Speaker 5 (12:48):
Who has done that?
Speaker 4 (12:49):
Yes, he's a key.
Speaker 5 (12:52):
Absolutely, he didn't have to leave.
Speaker 6 (12:54):
He could have been taking care for the rest of
his life in Toronto, and obviously he did not want to.
Speaker 5 (12:58):
That's not what he wanted. And they don't hold him.
They don't. They're not mad at him for that, you know.
It's it's like he what he has already done.
Speaker 6 (13:05):
Sometimes falls through the cracks because of the history that
he has with his health, when in reality, we should
be talking about his legacy, maybe reaching a legacy like
Steph Curry or a legacy like Lebron, especially if he
takes the Clippers to the finals.
Speaker 4 (13:19):
Jason Stewart is our executive producer here at Fox Sports
RADEA What's happened in Jason.
Speaker 7 (13:25):
I think that there's a you guys tell me if
I'm wrong on those Okay, The narrative around Kawhi over
the past I mean even in his last couple of
years with the Spurs, he was always vague about his injuries.
He's never fourth right, So let everybody a chance to
guess what was wrong or if he's faking it or
he's the injury prone?
Speaker 4 (13:44):
Is he weak?
Speaker 7 (13:45):
And I think this reputation has kind of carried him
through the Clipper years as well. We kind of forget
about that raptor saying where he was fully healthy. Is
that I think the reason why you ask, uh if
this is something we're going to rally behind because he
has he's it's kind of overcoming a reputation. A lot
of it's brought on by himself because he just isn't,
(14:06):
to Monster's point, communicative. But is that kind of what
it is that he's coming back from something? Is is
that the nature of the of the question.
Speaker 4 (14:14):
I think that there's a point where Kawhi has not
we have not been overexposed and maybe because of the
injury to it, Like I just think like someone I
mean again, like it's not to say that Steph Curry
isn't overexposed, but he plays such a fun style of basketball. Yeah,
like you like you don't like I do think that
(14:35):
Lebron obviously can be overexposed and there's just way too
much Lebron, But Lebron's completely different in all of that. Like,
in a way, I think that Kevin Durant's movement here
and there and wanting out like for his even though
Kawhi wanted out of San Antonio and only left Toronto
after one year, I don't think that we necessarily hold
that against him, And it's just the fact that he
just seems to be about basketball.
Speaker 5 (14:57):
Seems that way. Absolutely.
Speaker 4 (14:59):
It may not be in reality, but from what is
conveyed to us, it sure seems like it. And I
think that he does have the possibility to cross over
and be that transcendent player of this playoffs if they're
able to go on a run, because I do think
some people remember, not that people were wrapped up in
the Spurs, but how you emerge from from San Antonio Finals, MVP,
(15:24):
all of that, and then you remember twenty nineteen and
the mancis point about him being on a Clippers team.
Just like I mean, I'm a Bucks fan. It's not
like I can hate the Raptors like I'm more annoyed
with Philly or Indiana now and Boston than I would
ever be with Toronto and Toronto into the Bucks dream
in twenty nineteen with the winning four games in the
Eastern Conference Finals. So I think that plays a role
(15:47):
in some of this, and it's not I don't think
it's exclusive. You know, in certain other sports as well.
I think there's just like a player or two that
you think of and you think of, that's who I
want to win, or I would totally root for that person.
Speaker 6 (15:59):
Yeah, and I think you're on to something, Jason, But
I just don't think that's what people are talking about.
At one point, that was what people were talking about,
how he handled the situation in San Antonio, and I
remember Greg Popovich in an interview, they were like, we
cleared him, talk to him, like there was some things
that were said that kind of left a bad taste
in your mouth. Is Kawhi really injured or is he not?
(16:21):
I remember that being a topic of conversation. But I
feel like because he's not overexposed, like Dan just said,
people have kind of forgotten that a little bit and
now it's just like, oh, he hasn't been healthy, his
knees have given out, and at the start of the
season again been.
Speaker 5 (16:34):
Watching Clipper games my All Live guys. At the start
of the.
Speaker 6 (16:37):
Season, he lost weight and he was not good in
his first games back for the Clippers.
Speaker 5 (16:42):
I think I mentioned it too. He seemed like he
didn't know how.
Speaker 6 (16:45):
To handle his new body, Like I felt like he
kept getting pushed around when he went into the paint,
and it was not good. I mean, Bo Benson told
me he's washed, and I was like, don't say that.
But he did not look good when he first came
back this season. Then all of a sudden he figured
it out again, Like it was. It was a moment
where I thought, I don't I don't know if Kawhi
(17:05):
can come back to be Kawhi Man.
Speaker 5 (17:07):
He's definitely back.
Speaker 4 (17:09):
And for someone like Kawhi, I mean, when this is
our our knock on the NBA. But to be locked
in for eighty two games when you're in we use
it against players all the time, maybe that's a fault.
It's also why I'm like, I'm not gonna lose any weight.
We're just going to keep it as it is, because
maybe you're just not yourself. It's a different way to wait,
different way to look at things. No, with Kawhi it's
(17:31):
been it's been an amazing night last night. It's been
quite the turnaround, and he has you believing. And I
think that that is that is something that's unique. I
actually and this is what I want to want to
hear from the listener. Eight seven seven nine nine one
Fox eight seven seven nine one six sixty three sixty nine.
The player that you would root for. And I draw
(17:55):
comparisons to Rory McElroy one because just of re something
what happened, you know, nine days ago in augusta him
most everybody except Jason Stewart wanting Rory McElroy to win
the Green Jacket, and Jason was rooting against him just
for content to talk about on the shows, but everybody
(18:15):
rallied around him. I think, you know, in the Gulf world,
obviously Tiger Woods in twenty nineteen, but there are other
stories around as crazy as it is, and this was,
I mean, we figure that Barry Bonds was probably on something,
but it was before everything. I wanted Bonds to win
a World Series in two thousand and two. I did
not want the Angels to win that series. I wanted
(18:37):
the Giants to win because I just felt Bonds was
the best player that we had seen and every time
he came to the plate, it was something to watch
and he put on a show. And I feel like,
not that Barry Bonds and Kawhi Leonard are similar, but
Bond stayed pretty loyal, just played for two teams, and
that there was something about that. Kawhi has already got
(18:57):
the titles, but still to maybe take yourself back to
the Spurs days or take yourself back to twenty nineteen.
I think there's the possibility of we having that emotion
and rallying behind Kawhi and if Kawhi be the guy.
Speaker 5 (19:11):
In the playoffs, guys, we're going to the finals.
Speaker 4 (19:14):
I got So that's one one and a four or
five series matchup. That's all. That's all good.
Speaker 5 (19:19):
I know, I know, I just you know. I gotta believe, right,
I gotta believe. I can't. I can't. I can't be pessimistic.
I gotta be full on, full on in and I'm.
Speaker 4 (19:27):
Full on it. If I'll say this, if the Clippers
face the Warriors in the Western Conference Final and have
to be a lot of upsets along the way, it
would be a Steph Curry story. App It would not
be about people rallying around Kawhi. But if it's the Lakers,
or if it's the Rockets, even if it's the Timberwolves
coming from the bottom half of the bracket, if the
(19:49):
Clippers play them, I think and Kawhi continues to play
at this level, I'm not gonna hold them to fifteen
of nineteen from the floor every single game of the playoffs.
That's darn impressive. But you get thirty nine, you get
thirty two, you do what he's done in hitting clutch shots.
I think that it has the possibility to allow that.
And maybe what's even most impressive is for James Harden,
(20:10):
who's been so polarizing. I don't think anybody would want
to cheer for James Harden, but I think that that
would be forgotten and you would be cheering for Kawhi
in that fashion.
Speaker 6 (20:20):
And I even think he's at least for Clipper fans.
I even think James Harden has slightly changed people's opinions
because of what he has come and done with the Clippers.
Speaker 4 (20:34):
I don't know if he's changed people's opinions. I just
don't know if they've paid any mind to him. And
maybe he's had a great season and to your point,
like he kept them afloat at times.
Speaker 5 (20:42):
When without Kawhi, Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (20:44):
When they needed somebody and so he had been great
for them. But I don't think that changes the public's
opinion on James Harden.
Speaker 6 (20:52):
But if you've paid it, if you've watched the season
this year with James Harden, remember when he came to
the Clippers, He's like, I am the system and were
like even me when I say people, I mean me.
Speaker 8 (21:02):
I was.
Speaker 6 (21:03):
I was critical of him for saying that he really
has come in and made Aviza Zubats the best version
of himself and he has adjusted to the system that
is the Clippers.
Speaker 5 (21:14):
It's it's not necessarily him, it's not his team. He's
you know, he's taking it. I feel like a step
back when he needs to.

Speaker 4 (23:14):
Man thursday is going to be. Awesome we've got to
covered here On Fox Sports. Radio The titans say they
are not taking any more. Calls they know who they're gonna.
Pick they just didn't tell us today when they had
their pre draft press. Conference BUT i think we know
who's likely going number.
Speaker 5 (23:31):
One the guy that Said Calvin ridley was one of
the best wide.
Speaker 3 (23:34):
RECEIVERS i think we know who's going number one overall
in the draft coming up On.
Speaker 4 (23:39):
Thursday hit her up At Manzi. Blanos you can find
me At Dan byer On. Fox Isaac lohncron is, Here
Ryan smith is, here as is our executive producer One Jason.
Speaker 7 (23:51):
Stewarts so you said earlier that you've been TOLD i
don't know who told you this that you don't have
a good dangerfield. Impression not sure who told you. That
eddie garcia Us so he hated.
Speaker 4 (24:01):
It he hated. It SO i tried to do it
as much AS i.
Speaker 7 (24:04):
COULD a person that's very familiar to the listeners in
this time, Slot DANNY.
Speaker 4 (24:08):
G The, Great DANNY, g the.
Speaker 7 (24:10):
Producer My DANNY g impression is just A rodney dangerfield.
IMPRESSION i get no. Respect you, KNOW i can't get
up on my work.
Speaker 4 (24:19):
EMAIL i get no. RESPECT i thought it was just
gonna be, like, hey that's Like cavino. Does, hey, Hey
Danny g's not here because he was With cavino And
rich earlier this morning on The Patrick. Show we have
to give them their. Respect THE nba players have. Spoken
(24:43):
The athletic has released their annual. Poll the anonymous poll
sent out to about one hundred and FIFTY nba, players
talking about a variety of topics in THE. Nba we've
got things like do you think about ten minute? Quarters
we've got who's the best coach in THE. Nba we've
(25:06):
got who do you think is going to be THE?
Mvp one hundred and fifty eight players to be, exact
over a third of the. League every team represented in
this poll anonymous, voting and there are a bunch of different,
categories AND i want to break some of these down
(25:26):
because they stand out in a way that give us
good information and also give us good things to talk. About,
yeah so the, first the first poll question that they
have on their article who THE mvp. Was AND i
feel that this is a precursor to what we're likely
going to get in a couple of weeks when the
NBA's Most Valuable player award is. Announced and while it
(25:51):
was a two horse race with ninety four percent of
the vote being split between these two, Players shay gill
Just alexander beat Out nikola jokicch in the. Voting sga
got fifty six percent of the, Vote jokich just north
of thirty seven percent of the. Vote, so according to
THE nba, players more than half of them feel That
(26:12):
Shay gilgess As alexander will be the v or is
THE mvp of the.
Speaker 5 (26:15):
LEAGUE i Guess i'm not surprised about that.
Speaker 6 (26:16):
ONE i Think Shay gilgess has just been something we've
been talking about the entire, season what he has done
with the, thunder AND i think there is a little
bit of, yeah like there's maybe a little tired Of
Nikola jokic winning another one a little bit a little.
Speaker 5 (26:33):
Bit But Nicola, jokich.
Speaker 6 (26:35):
The REASON i think he jumped into it is when
he officially averaged a triple, double, right becoming the only
third player to do that in his. Team that's when
his name kind of really jumped.
Speaker 4 (26:43):
OUT i also think the sixty one point triple double.
Game oh, yeah like, that like there was like this
this leap that took place of, like all, right what
are we?
Speaker 6 (26:51):
Doing, absolutely you, KNOW i totally forgot About, well you're,
right forgot he did that crazy step.
Speaker 4 (26:56):
One, NO i think YOU'RE i think that your point is.
FAIR i also my whole is she with THE mvp
in and people, say, well these are the best numbers
that we've ever seen for. Anybody how can you not give?
Them we've had, whatever maybe right or, wrong whatever it.
Is but this way of voting for THE mvp has
gone on. Forever we are not changing it at this.
(27:17):
Point best, player best, team hasn't won one is a new.
Star those are all the boxes that are checked off
By Shay Gilgess. ALEXANDER mvp awards have been given to
other players with that criteria that fits for. ME sga
completely good with me as being THE.
Speaker 5 (27:33):
Mvp i'm fine with him winning THE mvp as.
Speaker 6 (27:35):
WELL i Think Nikola yogic can also win, it Right,
Like i'm not going to be, upset BUT, sga what
he's done this year deserves it and he's fun to.
WATCH i know he's sometimes a little bit of a foul,
merchant he goes for the foul instead of trying to,
score but he is fun to watch and OKAY c
is fun to.
Speaker 5 (27:53):
Watch that's also a part of.
Speaker 4 (27:54):
It it's also better for the NBA's, business AND i
know that the voters aren't thinking of, that but Giving
yokic ANOTHER mvp isn't great for. Business four and five
years be great For, jokics BUT i don't even think he.
Cares he, Doesn't but it would be much better for
THE nba to HAVE, SGA b AND, mvp not only
with the letters because it WORKS SGA, mvp but ALSO
(28:15):
SGA mvp AND. Okc it's pretty, amazing but it's also
the fact of you have now another like superstar that
you could put AS mvp and there's you can get
some run out of. That i'm not saying that THE
nba is going to rig THE mvp, voting BUT i
think it'd be better for the league IF sga ended up,
winning and.
Speaker 6 (28:33):
It helps Right coming from a small market also helps
the league's that makes them rise a little bit more
to becoming a major.
Speaker 5 (28:41):
Market.
Speaker 4 (28:41):
Now The thunder did not get as much love when
the players were pulled on who you think other than
your own team would win the. Title they came in
second seventeen and a half percent of the, vote overwhelming
votes in favor Of. Boston almost fifty eight percent of
the players pulled feel that The celtics are going to
win the title this. Season WHAT i thought was interesting
(29:03):
was not That boston was number, one or that The
thunder were, two or that The cavs were. Three it
was that The lakers were, four right, right six point six.
Percent so of all the teams in THE, nba The
lakers they are third seen in The, west But rockets
didn't get any votes in this. Poll The nuggets didn't
get a. Few by the, way this poll was done
(29:24):
prior To Mike malone's, dismissal the writers made sure to
make that. Point so maybe there was more belief in
what The nuggets were going to, do but they have
the rest of the league think that The lakers could
win a title was interesting to.
Speaker 6 (29:37):
Me, right and this happened After luca was traded to The, Lakers,
right and that's.
Speaker 5 (29:41):
The jump They there was no everyone the Minute luca
went to The.
Speaker 6 (29:46):
LAKERS i think a lot of people did, think, like,
huh The lakers all of a sudden do become a
contender when BEFORE i didn't think. So even With ad
when that, HAPPENED i was, like this does make them
a team that can.
Speaker 4 (29:59):
Be we even had a conversation on The Doug Gottlieb
show that Precedes cavino And rich about who we thought
were likely title. CONTENDERS i Know Jason stewart was in on.
THAT i Think jason Dug In sam Felt Golden state
because it Was Golden state or The, lakers AND i
picked The lakers BECAUSE i just felt the overwhelming popularity
(30:23):
behind what they've done over the last couple of months
was something that was out. There coaching, wise The warriors
haven't advantaged the whole. Deal warriors only got one point
five percent in this. Poll same number as The Milwaukee, bucks.
Speaker 6 (30:33):
Right, Right and this was also when they Acquired Jimmy,
butler which IS i get that, THOUGH i get. THAT
i think people just thought that The warriors were going
to be a little bit, better but that they maybe
wouldn't win a seven game.
Speaker 4 (30:45):
Series, yeah you, KNOW i find it interesting where people
wonder if The warriors have enough With Zach curry And,
butler but feel that The lakers do because Of Austin,
reeves but not looking at again the coaching or the
defensive side of the. Ball also think like guys Like
pajemski And Moses moody aren't necessarily considered into those equations
(31:09):
when they.
Speaker 6 (31:09):
Should be Absolutely and The, WARRIORS i think sometimes also
you look at them and you're, like you're kind of
short When Draymond green is your, center you cant they're
kind of.
Speaker 5 (31:17):
Short, yeah as a, team, obviously short's.
Speaker 4 (31:21):
Disrespectful they should go small when they go, small.
Speaker 5 (31:25):
They go small When Draymond. Green because how tall Is Draymond?
Speaker 4 (31:29):
Green six? Nine and he might be that's my, guess
he's probably six. Seven, yeah HE'S i bet he's listed six,'
nine listened at? Six six, really okay sit at.
Speaker 5 (31:42):
Six six so they might not be six to six so.
Speaker 4 (31:45):
The first time that comes Off, on google so, who
knows that's. Probably, fair YEAH so i thought they would even.
Rebelance it he's probably. Six four he's listed at. Six
six he's probably.
Speaker 5 (31:53):
Six, exactly exactly except by the way is.
Speaker 4 (31:57):
He's, Well Basically kevin durant doesn't want to be seven
feet so you'd always be like. Six eleven.
Speaker 5 (32:02):
He's crazy.
Speaker 4 (32:03):
He's, crazy okay five years, from now who will be
the face OF? The nba one and thirty eight votes
were cast in this and another, landslide victory And it's
Victor wembin yama Of The San.
Speaker 6 (32:16):
Antonio spurs i'm surprised on this one that the players.
Speaker 5 (32:20):
VOTED this.
Speaker 4 (32:23):
I am not REALLY because i think they get a
first hand look at the alien that. He, IS okay
i think like when you see like of what he
could be and what he is right now and what
can Be In, san antonio they get a. Good pick
and you Got The aaron, fox THERE and i mean
kind of like the.
Speaker 5 (32:42):
First hand look At. The celtics that's why they were so. Overwhelmingly.
Speaker 4 (32:46):
FAVORITE yeah I also i also THINK and I know
jason's Been a wemby guy is is well On THIS
but i just also think that there's. A Newness So
anthony edwards came in second on, THIS list sga came,
in Third And jason tatum came, in FOURTH and i
just feel they've been around. Like, longer yeah like if
(33:10):
it was going, to happen they would be on like
it would. Have HAPPENED and I Know anthony edwards made
the headlines AND saying i don't want to be the
face of, the league and it started this whole. Other deal,
BUT again i don't think that you. CHOOSE it i
think that it. Chooses YOU and i just don't think
that those other those other candidates Are Like john moran
got two point two percent of, The vote there's No
(33:34):
Way john morant's going to be the face of, the
league for as great as he is and for as
dynamic as. He is with everything that's gone On With,
john morant it's just not going. To happen and there's
this Newness to wemby where he's almost unblemished.
Speaker 5 (33:46):
And we just don't know what the.
Speaker 6 (33:48):
Ceiling, is yeah Sure for Victor, one banyama What about
luca coming in so low at two.
Speaker 5 (33:54):
Point nine Luka doncic is also had. Ten years maybe
les like he. Could be i'm surprised.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
HOW low i agree. WITH you i thought it would.
BE higher i thought that it should. Be higher maybe
they Feel Like nico, harrison felt or players, felt it
and SAW that i would think of just even the
change of scenery Of putting luca In a lakers uniform
gives you a bit.
Speaker 5 (34:18):
Of absolutely absolutely others.
Speaker 4 (34:20):
That received votes that weren't In This, Kate Well, kate
Cunningham and Polo bank caro each got two point two
percent of, the votes but you Did Have. Scottie Barnes
kevin durant was a nominee in an other's. Receiving Vote,
Chet Holmgren zacharyy rezach Of, The Hawks, shaden Sharp And
zion williamson also got. A, VOTE yeah I think zion's
(34:43):
time is over. As, well absolutely no way that.
Speaker 7 (34:46):
Door's Closed, jason stewart you guys know that discussion that
we've had over the past year about the face OF
the nba and the question of is this COUNTRY or
nba fans willing to have a foreign player as the
face of. The, LEAGUE yes i really think that now
looking back at. THAT discussion i really think. It is
and judging by this POLE even i think, they mean
(35:08):
are we ready for a white, forum PLAYER because i
don't you just you Hear about victor and you just
he's a, forum player but he is very much. Accepted
now jannis is another player that was always very. Much
ACCEPTED but i think the conversation needs to switch to the.
RACE card i hate to bring this into, this Conversation
but luca being that low on this List and Lembin
(35:31):
and yama having such, A majority i think. That's astounding
it says.
Speaker 4 (35:35):
A lot i think if you would have taken this
pole at the end of last Year, IN june I
think luca would have been Second In anthony edwards would have.
Speaker 5 (35:44):
Been third interesting and you're probably right because he was in.
The finals like for everything.
Speaker 4 (35:50):
That's gone On, with Luca the mavericks decision to move
on from him was in some sorts a public indictment
on the way that. He, plays now these players are
the ones who. Are voting they get to see it
night in and. Night OUT but i don't think that
there's any way in Seeing what luca did at the
end of last year and did To the timberwolves And
Did anthony edwards that you wouldn't think that he would
(36:10):
be possibly next because he was on. THAT track i
think the trade changed to him and actually hurt him in.
THIS scenario i don't think it's as much, about COLOR
but i will say this in the, race FACTOR and
i don't know if it was if you were allowed
to vote, this Way But cooper flagg coming into the
league and hearing the rave reviews that we've heard not
(36:33):
only from his freshman year in what we Saw, at
duke but just of when he was On THE team
usa squad that would practice Against the olympic team that went.
Last Year, those olympians those guys who we who are
trying To Replace lebron James And, steph curry those are
the guys that Are saying cooper flag was the most
impressive of any. Of them so in this Ranking Where
(36:56):
jason tatum is There And paulo Bancaro And cad cunningham
got a couple, of votes if you were allowed to
pick someone outside of, THE league i Think That cooper
flagg probably would have been able to. Receive votes in.
Speaker 6 (37:08):
This scenario you might be onto Something and i'd be
curious to see what this is next year after a
Year of cooper flag IN.
Speaker 4 (37:14):
The nba Tune into cavino and Rich on able twenty
seconds twenty twenty six for our answer, Of that jason
thinks it's more of a. RACE thing. I don't i
Think that luca would have been up in the rankings
if it wasn't for. HIS trade i.
Speaker 5 (37:30):
Don't think it has to do.
Speaker 6 (37:31):
WITH race i think it has more to do with
what you Said about Victor win banyama's career being so
short that there's so many we really don't know what his,
ceiling is especially with this season being cut.
Speaker 4 (37:43):
So short his, weakness is aren't weakness is? Right, now
No like luca's, Like, You like luca's been in the
league long enough when you look at a player and,
you're like you, know what like you kind of know what. You're,
getting Yeah you he's got to get in. Better, shape
Yeah like Victor, webbin yama like in what he. Has
done if there's stuff that he needs, to improve if
he needs to, get stronger you, just, say well he
just he needs to. Add weight he needs to he
(38:05):
needs to. Gain. Weight now his health is obviously first
and foremost on the thoughts and minds. Of everyone but
when we look, at him the negatives or the cons
would be stuff that you can. Improve ON and, i,
think yeah guys that have been around the league as
long as some of, those others now we just look
at his weaknesses. Or negatives most overrated player in the
(38:27):
League Is, tyre's halliburton according to. These. PLAYERS why i
think it's because his jump shot is, So UGLY and
i honestly feel that that is a part. Of it
like he doesn't he, Doesn't lay he doesn't look like
he should be, That, good yes but, HE is, i
mean and AND so i think THAT that i THINK
(38:48):
that's i think that's part.
Speaker 6 (38:50):
Of it that's CRAZY because, I mean i Feel Like tyrese,
halliburn's personality the small that we get, to see he
seems like a.
Speaker 5 (38:59):
Likable Dude so i'm.
Speaker 6 (39:01):
Just surprised, We Know rudy gobert has been a bit of,
a controversial, Yeah player he's done some things maybe.
Speaker 4 (39:10):
That, you, know well there are people also Think That
rudy gobert just completely can, Disappear absolutely like when the going,
gets tough don't Go To. RUDY gobert, i mean LIKE
that's i think that's, The. CASE luca, I mean luca
put him. On, skates now It's Not rudy, gobert's, strength,
no yeah But Ian rudy Gobert Guarding luka datcicch In
The western conference finals was like someone walking on an
(39:32):
ice rink with. No skates that's what it looked like.
He was it wasn't that he was put. On skates
it was that he had, no skates and so you're slipping.
And SLIDING but i also think that when it when
it comes to, the moment he doesn't rise up to, the,
occasion right and.
Speaker 5 (39:47):
When you are A defensive player Of the year and
you're a liability.
Speaker 6 (39:51):
On defense so because wasn't he the most overrated, Last,
year rudy he may.
Speaker 4 (39:57):
HAVE been i feel like, he.
Speaker 5 (39:58):
Was or we've it's been a topic. Of discussion i'm
surprised It's Not rudy, gobert still to, BE honest. I can't. Tyre's,
celebrate no, you're right.
Speaker 4 (40:08):
You're Ready rudy gobert most and third Place Was trey young.
This year young was a third. Last year gobert was first,
last year.
Speaker 5 (40:15):
And So tyres haliver and just came out.
Speaker 4 (40:17):
Of nowhere this was the Comment About. RUDY gobert i
don't understand The defensive player Of the year stuff when
you don't guard the people who have the ball most of,
the time the ones who are making most of. The
decisions so that's when you talk about him walking on
an ice rink with, Tennis shoes that's what he looked
like playing Defense. AGAINST luca i will, say this there
were only ninety votes cast on, this, one yes as
(40:39):
opposed to one hundred, And thirty so maybe other players
didn't want to, Weigh IN but i do feel that
people had an ax to grind because there's like. Forty,
nominees yeah AND so i think THAT the nba players,
ARE like i am going to give YOU who i think. Is,
Overrated third we're going to go deep in. This list
just Quick Hits. TREY young i actually have Felt That
trey young is been overrated his. ENTIRE career i Think
(41:02):
that i've never been a Buyer In TREY young's i
don't think that his numbers correlate with the. Team's. SUCCESS
yeah i think that you can look at the assist
numbers and you can look at the points it hasn't translated.
IN wins i think even When the hawks made their,
Little Run tray young was dinged up for. A while
(41:24):
i don't think that he translates to. WINNING basketball I
Think tray young Is About. Trey young. Your Boy jimmy butler.
WAS fourth i completely agree, with this but he has,
been great like he was Great in.
Speaker 6 (41:35):
Game, One Yeah jimmy butler in, The playoff jimmy is a.
Real Thing playoff jimmy is a. Real THING and i
don't KNOW if i. ACTUALLY agree i agree with what
you Said About trey young maybe not playing, team BASKETBALL
but i Do Think, trey young for what he does
with his size is.
Speaker 4 (41:52):
Pretty incredible i'll, give, That YES but i also Think
That trey young knows how to get.
Speaker 8 (41:57):
His.
Speaker 6 (41:58):
Numbers, yeah yeah IT'S like, I, AGREE yes i agree,
with YOU but i wouldn't say.
Speaker 5 (42:04):
He's OVERRATED but.
Speaker 4 (42:05):
I share so last year We had gobert One And trey.
Young three who else was in last? Year's Rankings Jason
jordan poole, Was, Second Okay dylan brooks. Was four they
didn't even make the the. Top Eight dylan brooks is
lower down the list with two point two percent of
The Vote. BRADLEY beal i feel like he's taken a
lot of the heat for Why the sons ended, up
(42:27):
failing because He hasn't he's the third wheel In That
draymond green was, Brought Up john morant was. Brought Up
joel embiid was an. Interesting name giannis's name was also
cast and So. Was lebron that somebody had an axe
to grind in all of this what also is funny
(42:49):
in the like the one, vote Category H jack landale
got a vote like somebody had an ax to, Grind
There Chris paul.
Speaker 5 (43:00):
That's That's, how yeah nobody even talks about.
Speaker 4 (43:02):
The guy so those are the. Most, overrated finally let's
end on a. Good note let's end on a. Positive
note here most Underrated Player caid cunningham Of The. Detroit
pistons how how is?
Speaker 6 (43:20):
He underrated he's a star For, the pistons number one
overall draft pick in is what?
Speaker 5 (43:26):
Third year how is?
Speaker 4 (43:27):
He underrated he has taken his team to a level
that they have not seen in. A decade he has
increased his level of play despite the expectations of being
the number one. Overall pick he's Now an. ALL star
i think he's raised his game and maybe because he
was Buried. In detroit he also had some health issues
(43:48):
early on in. His career but now that, HE'S healthy
i think the guys that see him night in and
night out are now wanting people to know How Good caid.
Cunningham is but he's the star Of.
Speaker 5 (43:58):
The pistons we all.
Speaker 6 (43:58):
Know that, in fact when we were discussing who could
be the face of, the league even some put his name.
Out there so is he underrated or can he be
the face of?
Speaker 5 (44:06):
The league you're a.
Speaker 4 (44:07):
KID hater i am Not. A caden you're. A, cater
no IT'S.
Speaker 6 (44:10):
Not i even brought this up On The Doug gottlieb show,
in time That kid cunningham could be the face of,
the LEAGUE and i was shut down because he's in a.
Small market, BUT no i just don't get how he
can be underrated in a short amount Of time when
you were the number one overall pick taking your Team To.
Speaker 5 (44:28):
New heights isn't that what you were expected? To do
that's why you were select to number.
Speaker 4 (44:32):
One overall take it up WITH the, nba Players. MONTE
blago i want to know who voted, For this maybe.
The List the mavericks received votes in Best And, Worst
franchises Best. And worst they got Votes Perfect mark Dagnoll

Club manci when we went to break where we were talking, about,
teams players coaches that you could see a lot of
people rally behind for a, championship run and we want
to Know Does kawhi leonard qualify. For that it's a
very EXCLUSIVE club i agree to get and you can't
say everybody because it's not, one hundred but ninety nine
percent of the people on the. Same PAGE and i
(46:27):
Think the rory McElroy win At the masters last week
was an instance where ninety eight to ninety nine percent
of the People wanted rory McElroy to.
Speaker 5 (46:35):
Win that day absolutely with the pictures one of them Taken,
by yeah all of those.
Speaker 6 (46:42):
Pictures are, evident, that yes, most people aside From, maybe
jason were Rooting for.
Speaker 4 (46:47):
RORY maclain i Think If Ken griffy junior was playing
baseball and was able to make, a run everybody else
it would rally. Behind him we've gotten some good Responses
On blue sky, you yes ALSO on X At dan
Byer on fox Or At, mancy bolanos and you can
call us. As well eight seven seven nine nine six
(47:08):
six three. Six' nine, for your, suggestion what athlete coach
or team out there could you see everybody rallying behind
in a? Playoff? Championship run isaac, before you go is
there anybody that you see in the sporting world that
we could see get behind for a for a championship run?
At any?
Speaker 2 (47:28):
Level besides, me honestly NO you know i did think
of it though in, more historical contexts although. IT never
happened i think there was a Big Feeling for carl
malone in the late nineties and around the same time
it actually wound. Up Happening Twice but john Elway With. The,
DENVER broncos yes I remember.
Speaker 4 (47:47):
THE lway run i think it's Been, different with malone
there have been some stuff popping Up, in The.
Speaker 6 (47:52):
Yeah maybe john STOCKTON would be i know my dad
would have loved To Have watched john stockton.
Speaker 3 (47:57):
Win a, championship you think oh so c, oh so
close But Running into michael jordan and.
Speaker 4 (48:03):
Yeah those bulls that.
Speaker 5 (48:04):
Was like one of my. Dad's favorite players.
Speaker 4 (48:06):
I'll give you one in. The basketball world he's. Won
a title and now with, THE changing landscape I Think
if michigan state was in a Championship, game tom izzo
people Cheering, FOR tom izzo i think they would want,
to see that especially with nil being. What it is
no Idea how long. IZZO'S gonna remain i mean his
(48:28):
name Is synonymous with final four runs but still just has,
the one title which was, in two thousand so twenty.
FIVE years ago i think that would be a name
that a, lot of people maybe not throughout the tournament
because everybody's cheering, for their brackets but when it came,
down to it if it was a championship Game or
a final four and you didn't have a Team in
the final four that, YOU'RE rooted for i think people
(48:49):
would Root. FOR tom izzo i.
Speaker 5 (48:50):
Think you're right that.
Speaker 6 (48:51):
Makes it's kind Of like the, rory McElroy situation just
so long since he won, his last major and it
was like to, complete the.
Speaker 5 (48:57):
Cycle is all they called The Majors. The grand slam
thank You You're. A, Grand slam Yeah. I'M with mike
i agree.
Speaker 4 (49:05):
With you too IT'S to the i know why you
were Thinking Of uh tom izzo because it was A
name that i said, in the BREAK and It's I.
Think mike trout and it's The opposite Of izzo because
trout hasn't, won anything absolutely But if the angel somehow
(49:25):
made a run and, he was magnificent Similar To my,
barry bonds feeling and there's Connection with. The angels there
trout's got off to a great. Start this year if,
they would win and everything that he's gone through and
has been with, THE same Team I think mike trout
would be the name that people would rally around in
cheer four almost. ALMOST unilaterally across.
Speaker 6 (49:49):
I was going to say almost maybe even one hundred,
on that one because nobody does anyone Look at the
angels as, a, rivalry, really, no no.
Speaker 5 (49:58):
Right because that's what.
Speaker 6 (49:59):
That's THE one when i Talked, about the clippers it
Was like maybe laker fans Don't want the, clippers to
Win but the angels don't really aren't a, threat to
ANYONE and so I Do think mike trout is, a
great example and it would almost be. ONE hundred percent
i think people would jump on that bandwagon.
Speaker 4 (50:15):
To support him there Is five game series seven and
when you GET to the lcs and then you Get
To the world series to be able, to, COME through
absolutely i think that it would. Draw PEOPLE in and
i don't know if Anybody Else In major league baseball
at this point that would have that sort of same cachet.
(50:36):
To DO that, like I mean o tani is. They,
just won.
Speaker 5 (50:39):
Yeah, He's done yeah. LIKE he's good i think Also.
Speaker 4 (50:42):
That helps trout Because of the dodgers being so big
in the same CITY that would i think that would
help his cause as being as for the people that
would Not like the Dodgers, to, Be okay well i'm
Gonna Cheer, for mike trout the other guy that gets overshadowed. In,
THAT market.
Speaker 6 (50:57):
Absolutely i don't think there is another baseball player though
right now current that would have an.
Speaker 4 (51:02):
EFFECT like that i struggled to find ANYBODY, in the,
nba you KNOW where. Else I struggled and i Don't Know,
if jason stewart if you've got, one Or not maybe
i'll let's Hear yours because i'll tell YOU then. Where
i struggled if you, don't hit it maybe this is.
Speaker 7 (51:17):
Why you struggle I'M, thinking About nfl and i'm thinking,
about THREE examples and i think the reason why there's
a struggle is because it's so overcovered and it's so
criticized that every single person has. A NEGATIVE crowd so
i Would Root. FOR aaron rodgers i said, before the season.
YOU'RE my witness i wanted him to win one just
to kind of put it in EVERYONE'S face after covid and.
(51:39):
All THAT stuff but i definitely don't think he would
get rally. Of most People two names i'm gonna. Throw
out There One, is dak prescott which kind. OF sounds
weird i. THINK he's disingenuous i don't root, for THE
guy but i think he's just a kind of a
really good guy who's had to. Pay his dues he.
Was not Overdrafted and Then Kirk wouldn't kirk cousins get
(52:03):
that kind of rally if he got into a championship
game Into. The super bowl he's done everything.
Speaker 4 (52:08):
THE right way i. DON'T think so i think People
Look at kirk cousins as holding teams hostage for the
most amount of money with. The least amount that's the
thing to them make, so much money it's tough TO
get like i could Give you, the DAK stuff because
I think that dak. Gets overly criticized the problem is
that it would Be All about jerry jones And, it's
(52:28):
the cowboys and there's just there's no way that there's No,
way that america Despite them, being america's team would Rally
around the cowboys as a. FEEL good, Story, i actually
manzi when You said, THE lions earlier I Wrote down
jared goff specifically thinking of a Is It a matthew stafford.
(52:50):
Sort Of situation now goff's been To a super Bowl,
with the rams and obviously he's had Success, with the
lions but would he break through? At THAT point and
i think you're lying on IS fair because i wanted
them to go To. THE super bowl i.
Speaker 5 (53:04):
Think most of, america was like we want them In.
Speaker 6 (53:07):
The super bowl we would love. To see, THEM but
individually i couldn't think of a player It's like the lions,
as A Whole. Including, dan campbell yes it's that's who everybody.
WAS rooting for i don't know about, an individual player and,
if it Is Maybe.
Speaker 5 (53:21):
It's, dan, CAMPBELL YEAH.
Speaker 4 (53:25):
Yeah i i think yes. In A way but i
think it's More about the lions and then just getting
To a super Bowl. Like the bills here's the Reality.
About the bills we Talked about the bills coming Close
To The kansas city chiefs if they go To, A
super bowl if they would Have Gone to super, bowl
fifty nine them Losing to the eagles would have continued
(53:49):
the drama and the. Pain of It like the bills need.
To Win one the lions just have to. Get TO
one and i think that what was interesting was, just
You know in jay and talking ABOUT, like the nfl
there's also this Gap Like, When Tom, Brady Drew, Brees Peyton,
Manning Ben roethlisberger philip, rivers all left there wasn't a
next group of quarterbacks to, carry that torch and, if
(54:13):
they did. They burned bridges Nobody's Cheering for russell wilson
To Win a. Super bowl Again dwight's in texas Walking
to The Communo, on rich dwight.
Speaker 8 (54:19):
How, you doing yeah this might be a little bit
of a Stretch By Hop Off. MARK andre fluriy I
mean what ovechkin did to him in, that one game
his last, Game over there so that. Was pure class
think a lot of people, really like Him great gold
gender for, a LONG time and i think a lot
of peop would like to see maybe him, make another
run but it's probably as likely this this Time With
(54:41):
the golden knights.
Speaker 4 (54:42):
Playing so well last, from the past absolutely one of
the Most Notable was Ray Bork when ray bork had
To leave the bruins then Went. To the, avalanche Everybody's
like even boston's Cheering for the avalanche. At, that point
yeah there's there's some of those in. Hockey as well,
All right There this Is communo and Rich Here On.
