There are a lot of books about anxiety, stress and related conditions. There is junk, AI junk, books that don't work for you and the ones that can change your life.

The book You Will Get Through This; A Mental Health Tool Kit may or may not work for you.

But you won't know until you first know about it and read a sample chapter. The book is written by two psychologists and a licensed professional counselor.

The style is clear and they get to the point with good suggestions.

If you need support contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 988 or 1-800-273-8255, the Trevor Project at 1-866-488-7386 or text “START” to 741-741.

(00:00):
In this episode, a quick look atthe book, you will get through this.

(00:07):
Welcome to the Anxiety Road podcast.
This is the involuntary journey, finding treatment options and resources.
For people that have anxiety, panic attacks, and phobias too.
This podcast is treatment agnostic.
My name is Gena Haskett.

(00:27):
Last time I talked about the differenttypes of anxiety books, this is
going to be a much shorter episode.
I wanna take a quick look at the book.
You will get through this help fordepression, anxiety, grief, and more
by psychologist Julie Redico, licensedprofessional counselor Charity O'Reilly.

(00:53):
And psychologist Nicole Verson.
I had to read the full title and subtitlebecause there are other books with a
similar name or the exact same name.
This particular book waspublished in July, 2024.
I'll get to it in amoment if you're new here.

(01:15):
This is the podcast that looks atmedical, behavioral health, meditation,
relaxation, and X equals the unknowntreatment options and resources for
those of us that have an anxietydisorder or a mental health condition,
and I have to tell you that everythingthat could go wrong has gone wrong
with getting this episode up, andthere's probably not gonna be any musical

(01:41):
intros or outros because everythingthat could go wrong went wrong.
So I'm using my phone.
Always have a backup.
To the backup.
To the backup.
A couple of things I need to mention.
I'm a bookaholic.
I need no encouragement to buya digital or a physical book.

(02:02):
I want to look at more books andaudio books as treatment resources.
But I am not independently wealthy.
I don't have the space for them eitherin my home or even on my e-reader.
So I'm probably going to be looking atthe publisher's website to see if there's
a table of contents or a sample chapter.

(02:23):
Sometimes Google Books has a bookwith an extended view, or there's
a prior version of the book.
I'll also check out a publisher's websiteor an author's website because sometimes
they will have a chapter of the book ontheir website or they talk more about
the reasons why they decided to write it.

(02:45):
I am basically doing whatI would do in a bookstore.
Look at the front and back, skimwhat I can, and read what I can.
So this is more a quickobservation than it is a review.
Oh, one other thing, I actually readthese chapters on the Kobo.com website.

(03:07):
It was a little easier for me tonavigate the pages than it is on Amazon.
The book is divided into sections, mentalhealth, social health, sexual health.
Physical health and getting support.
In the support section, there are chaptersabout navigating the mental health system,

(03:28):
what to do when you're having a mentalhealth crisis, how to find a mental health
professional, and how do you navigateprimary care insurance and self-pay.
The introduction explains how the book isset up under the bio psychosocial model.
They explain that all that meansis that they take a whole body

(03:51):
holistic approach to healing.
Now I am very much in favor ofthat particular point of view.
We don't have much of it inthe kind of medicine that is
practiced in the United States.
It's little pockets here and there, but not near enough to count.
But I can hope that one daywe would have something.
That would be akin to aholistic treatment practice.

(04:15):
The book also explains that it'sset up with a definition of the
topic, the treatment options, coping skills and techniques.
In the chapter on depression, the book defines the term, the
symptoms and the treatment options.
They also give alternativetreatment suggestions.

(04:35):
And for people that have less severeforms of depression reframing options.
I do not know what thatmeans, but sounds good.
I do like the way the this bookis set up and how it provides
understandable information.
If you're looking for just intime information, this would

(04:55):
be a good resource to turn to.
I really like that you can go toa specific section that you need.
From what I was able to gleanfrom the table of contents and
the chapter on depression, I thinkthis is a very helpful book and
resource for your anxiety toolkit.
So as I mentioned before, you can finda sample copy of the book on Kobo.com.

(05:21):
Just search for the name of the bookand you should be able to find it.
Or you could visit thepublisher's website,
or you can visit the publisher'swebsite to get a listing of the various.
Places that you can buy the book.
And let's not forget, checkout your local library.

(05:44):
They may have a copy of the book andit doesn't hurt to say, Hey, can you
purchase this book for the library?
One?
Never knows it could happen.
I'll catch you next timeon the Anxiety Road.
