(00:00):
This is Laura Dierdo with the Becker's Healthcare
podcast. I'm thrilled today to be joined by
Michael Gable, president and CEO at AdventHealth Parker
in Parker, Colorado. Michael, it's a pleasure to
have you on the podcast today.
Thank you. It's a pleasure to be here.
Absolutely. Now I'm excited for our conversation because
I know we have a lot to talk
about. There's so much happening at,
as in Health Parker. I know you're breaking

(00:21):
ground on a $300,000,000
expansion and, you know, truly a lot to
be excited about for the future. But before
we dig into that conversation, I'm wondering, could
you tell us a little bit more about
the hospital and what makes it unique?
I think what makes,
AdventHealthParker
unique and what makes every AdventHealth
hospital unique is really
the center of our organization is our mission

(00:43):
statement, which is extending the healing ministry of
Christ.
This is a company that's strongly devoted and
a strongly values driven organization, and
that what that's what makes
AdventHealth a strong company.
Also
AdventHealth,
is working to be known. All of all
of our hospitals are working to

(01:04):
be known for whole person care or a
legacy of whole person care, which is defined
as loving the whole person,
healing the whole body, growing the whole potential,
living the whole journey.
And
I think
that is, something that's core to the company
that can pertain to our patients, that can
pertain
to how we treat our team members, really

(01:27):
trying to do things above and beyond just
delivering,
health care.
That's amazing to hear. And, you know, what
a fantastic mission just to be able to
serve the community and individuals in in a
holistic way. Now, we know that AdventHealth parker
recently broke ground on that major expansion.
How will that change the hospital?

(01:47):
It's gonna have a major impact. I mean,
Parker is a strong level two trauma center
in Southeast Denver. We serve a market that
goes to
Kansas, goes definitely into the Denver market, down
into the Colorado Springs market,
and we've seen a lot of population growth
in our market, so
continuing to keep up with that growth
as Parker becomes a more sophisticated

(02:10):
hospital. It's gonna definitely,
eventually, Parker will be over a 300 bed
hospital once the tower is completed.
We'll start off with 60 new beds,
60 additional new beds in that tower with
the potential for another 92
cath labs
going to two interventional labs. We have one

(02:31):
of each of those.
We'll expand our pre and postoperative
space,
adding four new operating rooms.
And so we we expect to have first
patient in early twenty twenty seven.
It will continue to grow the complexity of
Parker in a market that's really demanding that
type of capacity.

(02:52):
Absolutely. And I know that capacity is a
challenge for so many hospitals right now. And
so truly, it seems like being able to
make this investment and and then grow,
the space that you have will be beneficial
not only to the patients but caregivers as
well. AdventHealth has made a significant investment in
this expansion.
Why do they believe so strongly in the

(03:12):
project?
We've spent quite a bit of time,
you know, in in many industries and definitely
in health care.
You know, there's a process called master facility
planning, which if it's done really well,
builds a strong business case.
So that's what we did. We spent
over a year,
working with an outside firm

(03:33):
to build a master facility plan
that was looking at population growth out to
2033.
This was started back in 2019.
And,
you know, looking at population growth,
down to the subspecialty
level age groups, looking at market share, growing
market share,

(03:53):
and then really deciding what kind of building
we needed.
And once we presented that to our admin
health leadership,
they strongly agreed that the case was there
to
expand Parker.
That's great to hear. And, you know, certainly,
it seems like, as you said, quite a
process that you've gone through,
to get to this point even. And and
now I know you started construction

(04:15):
on another medical campus in another part of,
the Denver Metro Area as well. Can you
tell me a little bit more about that
project?
Yeah. AdventHealth is very vested, I think, in
the Denver market. We have five
hospitals now, and there's opportunities
to increase that. So, yes, we've started
a development at what is called a what
is right next to adjacent to a housing

(04:37):
development called Aurora Highlands
along,
470.
It's, gonna be an
88,000
square foot facility,
with
initially a freestanding emergency department that will have
eight exam rooms, two trauma rooms. We'll have
kind of a full suite of
imaging, including CT, MRI,

(04:59):
twenty seven exam rooms
then there'll be a medical office building built
in addition to that that will be where
Second Floor
Basically Second And Third Floor of this structure
will be a medical office
facility Third Floor will be shelled and And,
eventually, the plan is to make that a
hospital campus as
the population grows and the demand is there.

(05:21):
So we're very excited about that project.
That will be a department of partner until
it is,
a hospital site, and then it will be
an independent facility,
as part of AdventHealth. But, yes, we're very
excited about the opportunity,
on the East and Northeast part of the
Denver Metro Area.
Got it. That makes a lot of sense

(05:42):
and, you know, certainly,
a big opportunity is to,
continue to expand that access to care as
you mentioned, and that's really neat to hear.
The Denver market area is known for being
a pretty crowded health care space.
What makes AdventHealth different?
How do you really differentiate yourself with so
many other actions available?

(06:03):
Well, again, I would go back to saying
it's centered around
the mission statement and the desire to be
known,
for whole person care. I think it is
a formula that works. We are a strongly
faith based organization
that does attract some some
employees to our organization.
And I think it's

(06:24):
it's an opportunity to not just,
differentiate ourselves with a mission, but trying to
be good corporate citizens.
I think here in Parker,
we are definitely a large employer in this
community,
and I think there's an obligation to be
a good corporate citizen as well that we
do things like put on a Christmas store,

(06:45):
which,
make sure that 200 families over a thousand
people affiliated with those families
have a Christmas,
and Parker Hospital has done that for,
what will be the fourteenth year, I believe,
this year.
We also
support a couple of very prominent,
food banks in town to try to address

(07:06):
food insecurity.
We have a team that works with a
local apartment complex to provide
Thanksgiving meals to over a 50
families.
So doing things that are make us also
a strong member of the community is very
important to
Parker and to AdventHealth hospitals everywhere.

(07:26):
That makes a lot of sense and it
is really cool to hear about some of
those different things you're able to do in
the community. I know, you know, it goes
beyond some of the traditional,
services that you think of from a hospital,
but makes a big difference, especially
as the community
is growing.
Looking ahead to the future, what are you
most excited about for AdventHealth in the Rocky
Mountain Region?

(07:47):
Well, I think AdventHealth is a, as I
said earlier, it's a strongly values driven company.
It's a company
I very much enjoy working
with and for,
and we have a strong presence in the
Denver market. I think
as the needs of Denver continue to grow,
AdventHealth is very vested in this
city and trying to provide

(08:09):
a a great level of health care and
support to all the people of the Denver
Metro Area. So I think,
and Parker specifically
is is where I spend my time. And
I think
watching the complexity of our organization grow, not
just here, but across the city is also
very exciting because the demands
are definitely there from a growing

(08:33):
population That's great to hear. Well, michael. Thank
you so much for joining us on the
podcast today This has been a really fantastic
conversation Congratulations
on all the growth and we look forward
to having you back to learn more about
how things are going and what happens next
Thank you very much, Laura. We have an
exciting future and it's exciting to be part
of it. I appreciate the opportunity.
