Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're going to spend some time jefs off today. Andrews
and I were at the games together on Thursday, and
we'll spend some time in the two o'clock hour kind
of reminiscing, but also a bigger picture what this meant
to our city, to basketball in our city, if anything,
We'll do that coming up at two o'clock today. It
was but it was Hey, a quick shout out, real quick.
(00:22):
I want to start here just well because I don't
want to forget about It's on top of mind and
I will forget otherwise. Shout out to Jeff Bechtold and
his staff at the University of Washington, the sports information
director out there and their staff. I've covered a lot
of things in my old old age and many years
in this business. I've covered a lot of things, a
(00:44):
lot of sports, a lot of events, and I'm not
sure if I've ever been to a more turn key,
easy to cover, easy to.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
And I don't know.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
I hopefully fans have the same reaction. Four nine, four
to five one on the text line. I just those
guys just did a phenomenal job. Yeah, you know, I
mean Super Bowls are a gong show conference championship games
in the NFL playoffs are an absolute blank show thanks
to the NFL coming in and running it as opposed
to the local teams, same as the Super Bowl. I've,
(01:17):
you know, lots of stuff. I'll just say that, lots
of stuff that we've covered over the years. Jeff and
his staff shout out to you, guys, as we say
in the hockey world, to stick taps all the way around. Guys.
It was just really really cool. It looked like fans
had an easy way in and out. It looked like
just the plaza was cool. I'll give you some of
(01:39):
the economic numbers in the two o'clock hour, and I
think they're important. I know it's a sports show, but
when you have and I bring this up, I'm not
stepping in kicking dirt on the guy's grave. But former
state legislator Frank Chopp passed away over the weekend. He
was mister anti arena, anti sonics, anti everything with sports,
and while condolence is certainly to his family, he brought
(02:03):
seeing his passing brought up my thoughts about how he
and others for so long have told us and did
tell us that sports have no impact at all economically
on a community and you know, you could not beat Nikolkata.
Former city councilman was the other one was chopping the
coatta with the two just absolute anti sports people, Sally Bagshaw,
(02:25):
former council member, et cetera. Any member of the city
council from a few years ago, all nine women or
whever it was on there that just hated everything in
the world. Yeah, sports don't matter. Yeah really really, I'm
telling you right now, and I will tell you two
o'clock what it meant, because our city kicked ass Climate
Pledge Arena absolutely. You know why I wanted to go,
(02:48):
Andrews is because we'll get more into this little bit
into o'clock hour. But I wanted to go because I
had not been to a basketball game there. Yeah, and
I wanted to see what Climate Pledge Areina was like
for a basketball game and not one sorry storm, not
one where you curtain off the upper bowl. Yeah, like
a real we're gonna have nineteen thousand people in here
basketball game, what would it be like? And I did
(03:12):
walk around a little bit before I made my way
up to the old press box up there, right and
in fact I kind of walked over we do our
pregame show, which would in theory in a for hockey
where it's facing the lounge in the corner of the building,
and I kind of want to say, Okay, this would be,
in theory one of the worst seats in the house
for basketball, right, Be fine, Yeah, be absolutely fine. So
(03:32):
I just climb it. Play To build a building that's
perfect for hockey and basketball, I don't know how you
do it. It's so hard to do. They did it. Yeah,
they absolutely did it.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
So yeah, shout out to our city, the whole staff, everything,
like everything they made. Like with big events like that,
with a ton of moving parts, lots of games within
a short amount of time, there's so many things that
can go wrong, and the fact that I don't maybe
I'm the head dived in the ground a little bit,
but I can't hear. I haven't heard anything went wrong. No,
there's been no complaints about anything, nothing but praise for
(04:04):
the for the venue from both players coaches, which.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
Is wild, because you know what they all had on
on the marquee. Everywhere he saw was NCAA. Yeah, and
they don't do anything right, you don't think normally, but
they do. They do March Madness right. So, but Jeff
and the crew at Washington, great job. Okay, so we've
been off for a while, lots has gone on, you know,
But top of this, over the weekend, Mitch Haniger gets release,
We're gonna we're gonna mally wop with the boys here
(04:28):
in about ten minutes and Nathan and Cryst will come on.
We're gonna spend some time with them as we mulliwop today.
I think later in the week when Jess gets back tomorrow.
We got to kind of map out our shows. I
don't know what we have on Thursday. Last year, we
basically just did a show from Jimmy's and didn't have
(04:49):
any guests from the Mariners. So if that's open, I
think we'll probably mollywop into a season preview on Thursday
this Thursday, because I don't think we're gonna get much
from them, so because we're there very early, that's the excuse.
And so we'll probably do more to season preview on
WEDNESDA or Thursday. But I want to spend some time
with the boys today because Manders had a lot of
(05:09):
news the last few days. Top of the list, Mitch
hannigher released and maybe it's not a surprise, but it
also does send a message. Maybe they are okay with
just eating money or spending money. However you want to
look at it, Ryan Bliss is your second basement. It
appears maybe although I have seen it, I gotta ask
Chris and need about they've watched it closer than me.
I don't I see a lot of plunk playing second base? Yes,
(05:34):
first okay, I think it's doing more. Played a lot
of third base.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
I don't know, because it's been The other thing is
first base. Because Luke Rayley was supposed to be your
first baseman, he has not played a lot of.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
Roddy Piper. Audy Roddy Piper's going to be in there,
so mostly Luke Raley is your DH. So I don't know.
Speaker 4 (05:53):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
I'll talk, we'll talk a little infield then. But the
other thing I want to hit on is this for organization, man,
And yes, I'm going to say this poor organization. They're
poor in a lot of ways, apparently because you know, money,
they don't spend it. But they went out and they
did what everyone's been asking, can we stream the games
for people that don't have cable? Slash Roots or whatever,
(06:18):
you know, like like I'm old, I like cable, I
like Channel Surf. It's as simple as that. It's just
just it's honestly, it's as simple as that. And more importantly,
that's what my wife likes to do. She doesn't want
to deal with the streaming service. And you know what,
happy wife, happy life. It's as simple as that. Exactly,
that's what we're gonna do. And they went out and
they got the streaming service. They announced that on Thursday,
(06:40):
I believe it was, and or maybe it was Friday,
it doesn't matter. It's Thursday or Friday. They announced that,
and God, immediately people were like criticizing and there's backlash
and they're like, they've given this team a dime. I'm
not giving them a dime. Well, then then you know what,
you go pound sand and don't him a dime. Right,
(07:01):
I get that you don't want it. So I've never
quite understood if you're a fan, how you just turn
your back on the team that you're a fan of,
because there's a couple of things in the business practices
they do, how cheap they are, what have you? You
(07:21):
still care? So you're just going to ignore them. I
don't quite get that, And honestly, it ain't that much.
It really isn't. We live in a world now with
instant gratification and people want everything for free and nothing's free,
and guys, if that's not how it works. Man, I
(07:42):
can't believe we have to pay for Netflix.
Speaker 4 (07:44):
Why is Net?
Speaker 1 (07:45):
I mean, what are they doing? I want to watch
I want to watch LAMB Man. Well, I'm not paying
for Paramount Plus. Why dom I want to do that?
Screw them? CBS makes too much money. They were given
their a dollar again show but a movie theater and go, hey,
I just want to come in and watch the movie? Yeah,
for free, it's gonna be eighteen dollars. No, I just
(08:05):
want to come in and watch it for free. Hey,
throwing a popcorn too?
Speaker 5 (08:07):
Why?
Speaker 1 (08:08):
Here's the thing. There are sports that they probably can't
afford to charge. MLS is number one. Number two is
the NHL, and the NHL is smart in our market.
You know what they said, Hey, you know what, We're
not gonna do that now. Streaming still cost you something.
But they were smarting to say, Okay, we'll put it on,
We'll cut a deal with prime, with Amazon Prime, and
(08:28):
we look at the numbers and like eighty five percent
of the people are watching in this country have no
oh sorry, have Prime. Have a Prime account, and you
know what most sports fans do too, because I'm not
gonna pay to watch theirs. Yeah, you have to pay
to watch there's a day football. It's on Amazon Prime.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
Okay, so they did that though you can watch it
free on King and Kong yep, or you can watch
it on Prime, which most everybody has, and didn't put
it behind a paywall like the MLS. They just said, hey,
it's right here. If you have Prime and and you're
in the footprint of the organization, you have it. You
can watch it. You can stream it, so you have
two great options. They were smart, great business plan, great
model by a live Wikian company, super smart, and they
(09:07):
did that. But they're still a cost, right, you know.
Maybe it's just the antennas for King and Kong. I
don't know, but they're still a cost. But they made
it easy. Major League Baseballs at a different level, right,
and they still need they're still trying to generate revenue.
I get it, but it ain't that much. But as
soon as they announced it, people were pissed. I'm just
I don't get it. I don't. Maybe Nate and Chris
(09:27):
or pissed too, I don't know. We'll find out. We'll
talk about that, because I I think it's a great
step forward for the organization. Now, I don't like what
they're doing with the pre and the postgame shows. I
don't like how they handled it. I really don't like
how they handled things with the staff at Root Sports,
not named Angie and Brad, who are fine, but the
rest of the staff. I do not like what they
wanted they did with those folks at all. I really
(09:49):
it makes me sick and makes my stomach turn. Some
really good people got laid off and then you know,
can get higher back on pennies on the dollar type
of thing. I don't like that. You we aren't gonna
love what you're gonna see in the pre and post
games now. Moving ahead as a Mariner fan, but the
big thing is the games, and you can see the games,
and if you want to stream the games, you can
see the streaming. That's the model they went with. I
(10:13):
applaud the Mariners for I think it's great, good for them,
But we'll find out. We'll talk about a lot of
things all that coming up will hit a daily power play,
I believe depending on how long ago with Mollywap at
one forty five today daily power play brought to you
by our good friends at Squahanta Kamoda. All that coming
up today four nine, four to five. One year. Feedback
is always welcome on nine three point three KTERFM.
Speaker 5 (10:34):
It's Monday, then that means one thing. It's time to
Mollywap uncensored, unscripted and filled with the passion that all
Mariners fans can relate to, and brought to you by
the company that's all about Seattle Sports, Simply Seattle. Visit
simply Seattle dot com for the best Mariners gear. Now
with the Mollywap boys, Nathan Bishop with the light bet
(10:57):
and Chris Crawford with my Oh Wright.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
Here's the infernets. Well, sound like the boys, guy Nick
was doing like an Edgar impression there or something for
a second. Well, yes, indeed, here we go. It is
time for MOLLI walk Monday with this. Opening week is
upon us. Opening day is on Thursday. We are probably
gonna do some stuff on Thursday with the guys later
(11:23):
in the week. We're not sure. We're this is a
well oiled machine. The one to three show. I'll tell
you that right now. It is like nothing screams planning
like our show man. We are on top of that.
Tell you you know what you can count on is
me never going on remotes. So oh man, so bitter?
Speaker 5 (11:37):
You are?
Speaker 1 (11:38):
So bitter? You are anyway, Nathan, Chris, how are you? Fellas? Chris,
how you doing?
Speaker 6 (11:45):
I'm good? Just to take everyone behind the scenes we had.
I had a little bit of an internet issue. I
lied and said that my internet was down. The truth
is I just couldn't afford it because I had to
buy the Mariner streaming service and two pieces of sugar
gold cheese, so there I had to make my priorities,
and I wanted to try your crappy cheese and see
if it's not as overrated as I thought. But I
(12:06):
was able to finally get that internet going.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
Nathan, how are you? I'm fine.
Speaker 4 (12:12):
I get to I don't have to subscribe to a
million TV channels that I will never ever, ever, ever
ever watch because I have two kids and I don't
have time to watch the like Housewives of Atlanta or
whatever it is that they're doing on all of their channels.
I can just say, here's a fairly reasonable monthly stipend,
and now I can watch my baseball team. So I'm
(12:33):
doing great.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
Let's get to that in a second. We'll get to
that second. Big thanks Simply Seattle, Simply Sattle dot com.
By the way, new retail location, open up a new village.
Hopefully it won't get broken into on a daily basis
like the one in downtown Seattle did so. Shout out
to our good friends Jake and Jamie and the whole
crew at Simply Seatle. Congratulations on that great stuff. Great
place to buy your gear for all of your teams.
(12:54):
That is that sounders out from them. Chris Yep, Absolutely yes,
I got my school that's old school logo.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
I love that.
Speaker 6 (13:02):
The Kelly Green and I got in very nice. I
have both of their old school SuperSonics hoodies I've got.
I will not buy clothes for like the next year
because of Simply Seattle. So I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
We appreciate them so much. Okay, oh well, we're gonna
touch in on Mitch Hanigh in a minute. We'll touch
in on the infield slash Ryan Bliss experiment in a minute.
We're not gonna do a preview necessarily today, Like I said, well,
we're gonna find some time later in the week to
actually kind of go through the preview. We do that
every year with the guys. It may be live at
Jimmy's on Thursday, may not. We'll we'll let just figure
that out tomorrow when she gets off of a vacation.
(13:36):
You know, Chris, you give me a hard time about
not being here and taking like three vacation days a year.
Whereas what would and refresh my memory? What's Jess's nickname again? VAK?
What is that short for vacation?
Speaker 7 (13:49):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (13:49):
Okay, god and a lot of it? Got it? It's
only opening week in baseball? Why would we want to
be here?
Speaker 2 (13:55):
That was just here, Jess.
Speaker 1 (13:57):
Here's the thing. She's either listening or listened later and
she's all, yeah, we're just joking. We're just having fun.
Speaker 4 (14:03):
I'm not even talking.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
Nathan for the first time, Emverer Nathan avoiding all controversy.
What world are we living in right now? Let's start
with this. And I got the release because I want
to look at it again. It came out on Friday,
I think it was, and you know, in the middle
of March badness and everything else, and we weren't on
the air, so we didn't get a chance. Yeah, Friday,
March twenty first, so a mayor's prison to Business President
(14:27):
of Business Operations, Kevin Martinez. Now stay launch a Root
Sports stream app. It's a direct to consumer TV everywhere
streaming app providing sports fans in the Northwest access to
all Root Sports programming. Side note, there is no other programming,
including Mariners games and other Mariners related content, with no
blockouts and no cable or satellite subscription contact contract required.
(14:47):
If you already have Root Sports through a participating cable,
satellite or streaming provider, you will be able to authenticate
into the new Root Sports stream to access content at
no extra costs. Again, let me emphasize something, and this
isn't a shot, this is just the reality. The only
thing you're getting with the Root Sports stream is you're
getting the Mariners. There is no other programming right now
(15:09):
on Root Sports. It's all like you know, delayed college
hockey games, kickball. There might be some table tennis on there.
It's one hundred year subscribing for the Mariners. Okay, that said,
we all understand that, we all get that we have
been screaming, and I say, we fans have been screaming
for a long time, exactly andrews. For a streaming service.
(15:34):
It comes out the immediate reaction from fans is negative,
and not all fans. I get it. I'm generalizing here,
but there was an initially there's a bunch of pushback,
and I don't get it. I don't understand it. I
watched March I'll give you an example, March Madness. This weekend,
we had a couple of hockey games. We had other
(15:55):
stuff going on. We're sitting in the press box on
Friday at the at the at the games on Friday
for a climate page arena. We wanted to watch a
close game coming down. Is Iowa State made or somebody whoever?
Speaker 5 (16:06):
It was?
Speaker 1 (16:06):
Yeah, and Saint Mary's And it's not on TV there
because we're at the game.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
What do I do?
Speaker 1 (16:12):
I went on my computer, I authenticated my cable, cable,
my Max account, and we were able to watch it.
It's kind of easy, nice, right, one of the benefits
of subscribing, Right, you're sitting there in Mason County where
you know, who knows what's going on out there? Besides
dueling banjos playing all the time, says by the way exactly,
(16:34):
And maybe your cable goes out, but maybe you still
have cellular access. What do you do? You watch it
on this on your phone. It's a great situation. It's
what people have been asking for, and yet here we are.
There's a lot of negative feedback. Nathan, I'll let you
start here because you what are your thoughts on the
on the ms and the streaming and have we taken
a step forward?
Speaker 4 (16:55):
I think it's fantastic. I mean I am probably as
optical and cynical about this organization is anybody who's allowed
to speak about them, certainly on your air and just
generally I think, yes, yes, all over the place. Yeah,
But I think that if you're gonna be that way,
if you're going to be critical and negative, none of
that means that you're just you're just a jerk. Frankly,
(17:17):
if that's all you ever do, if when the team
does something good, you can't look at it straight in
the face and say, this is good. I'm happy about this,
and I'm not telling other people they need to be
happy about it. And frankly, we all know that the
reason the Mariners are taking crap for this has nothing
to do with this. It's just a lag factor that
comes with all of the other stuff that they have
rightfully put on everybody's shoulders, and that's why they're getting
(17:40):
garbage for it. But this is a net win for
anybody who wants to watch Mariners baseball. There are so
many local people, so many situations in which paying ninety
to one hundred dollars a month to be part of
Fubo or direct TV stream or Comcast or anything else
that you you the only other ways that you could
get this team without pirrating them illegally, which is not
(18:00):
something that anybody wants to do. So now we have
this option that is a flat feed twenty dollars a
month that gives you exactly what you want. It's just
the Mariners games. And to your point, and yes, it
is only the Mariners on Root Sports, but also that's
all I'm interested in. I am a baseball and a
Seattle Mariners fan. I do not want cooking shows, I
(18:22):
don't want reality TV. I don't care about anything else.
I just want to watch the Mariners. And I think
we have to be able to say it's good, and
we also have to really specifically, say to Kevin Martinez
and the group over there that I know fought for
this and probably had a real upstream experience with the
powers that be for them to push through it and
to hear the fans. It says that they are listening
(18:44):
to what we want. What more do you want? Yes,
we want them to win. But for the people that
aren't on the field, what do you want them to do,
who can't control wins and losses? You want them to
listen when we say we want something, and that's what
they've done here. I think it's fantastic. Ian. I'm really
happy about it.
Speaker 6 (19:00):
Chris, yep, real quick. Since you mentioned the NCAA tournament.
It was nice of Maryland to get a win and
travel all the way to Seattle.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
I tip your server by the way on your way out,
Daisy John, Chris Crawford, go ahead, Fred.
Speaker 6 (19:15):
Thank you, thank you. I agree with everything Nathan said.
All I'm going to add to this is there are
too many Mariner fans who are Randy Quaid from Major
League two, who are negative for the sake of being negative,
who want these things to go wrong. And you don't
want to be like Randy Quaid in real life, and
you don't want to be like Randy Quaid in Major
(19:37):
League two, like, there's nothing wrong with this. This is
absolutely one of the best things the Seattle Mariners have done.
And you have to start realizing this is the world
we live in, the Mariner world. The world that we
live in with the Seattle Mariners is fans can't watch
their games on cable. Everyone is cutting the cord. So
(19:57):
the option for the youth, then the people who can't
afford the cable because it's ridiculously expensive, this is an
excellent option. And anybody who's negative towards this just wants
to be negative and that's stupid and it's not a
good way to go about life.
Speaker 1 (20:14):
I would one thing I would add and azolet you
jump in in a second. I did see and I
think this is the case if you are say, and
I can't speak for Fubo or the other streaming services
who had root Fubo, Yes, it was only Fubo. It's
only nothing, okay, So I would just I know with comcasts,
I think I've seen this. If you already have comcasts
(20:36):
in the sports tier, which they're part of, uh, you're
actually still going to be paying you'd actually pay less
for that than you would for the streaming app, but
you get the streaming app anyway. So extra package is
what you're saying, Yeah, you're getting everything with that. Nathan
doesn't want to watch everything else like it A lot
of people don't. I get that. But like, if you're
already there and you're already a Root subscriber via Comcast, uh,
you're actually paying less than nineteen bucks a month for
(20:56):
what you're paying for that that top tier, which is
also one that win. That's also in that win. Like
they could have come back and said, hey, you gonna
you can watch it on Root on TV, because this
is what I thought they were gonna do. You can
watch it on Root on TV. Like say, I've got
Ian's got comcasts in Maple Valley and he's watching that
so his wife can watch investigation I D shows and
all that fun stuff, you know, and channel surf. But
(21:19):
but Ian, if you want to stream it, it's gonna
cost you more. They didn't do that, and I applaud
them for that because they could have, and I probably
would have been sucked into doing it, but they didn't
do that, and so I think it's a win win
Anders as the youngest member of this group today. Do
you guys know Anders hosts a show it's called Mariners Weekly,
and also co hosts a thing called Stove. It's a
baseball podcast. Have you guys heard that?
Speaker 6 (21:41):
It's another cooking show?
Speaker 4 (21:42):
So Jen a cooking stove?
Speaker 7 (21:45):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (21:46):
What are you and Jen whipping up this week? They're
on the stove? I'm sorry on stove. Yeah, not these stoves.
That's the difference between us two.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
By the way, is that what it is?
Speaker 3 (21:53):
Yes, Stove is actually an off season baseball podcast. The
Stove is is cooking shows.
Speaker 1 (21:58):
Okay, every day? All right, biggest news.
Speaker 3 (22:04):
I want to echo it basically everything that Nathan said,
because there's so many people, and I could speak for
a lot of people that are my age that don't
have cable or if they do, they go through their
parents' subscription basically, and who don't have that access. And
they said, I just want to watch the Mariners games.
Do you realize I would easily pay one hundred and
fifty bucks or whatever for the year so I could
(22:25):
watch every single Marriager's games on stream or MLBtv or
however it would happen. And they finally like like Nathan said,
listen to us, and they said, yeah, okay, if you
want to do that, we can give that option to you.
So you don't have to subscribe to this hundreds plus
dollars a month for cable that you're never gonna watch,
don't watch anything else except live sports, live Mariners games
(22:45):
to be specific here. And I think this is awesome.
It just gives more options and it doesn't affect you.
For the people that have cable already and like it
and want to defend, oh, I don't understand why no
one else gets cable. Great, if you like it, it
doesn't affect you at all. You still would have the
same boards package or anything. So this is just giving
more options to viewers and I think that's a good thing.
Speaker 1 (23:05):
Well, want's putting more eyeballs in the product, right and
at the end of the day, that's what we're talking about.
I mean, I mean, Chris, you do this for a
living and you've got to watch games all across the country.
I mean, you're not able to watch even if you're
doing for a living, you or somebody that you work
for is going to be paying for you to be
able to watch Tampa Bay in New York right exactly.
Speaker 6 (23:23):
And I will say this, the one thing that does
remind me of is MLB's blackout policy is still one
of the most ridiculous things that I've ever seen in
your entire life. So but this doesn't have anything to
do with that. It's it's just a great way to
get more people paying attention to the product. You know,
they're not making it. I don't think they'll make a
ton more money for doing something like this. Maybe in
(23:44):
the long term we'll see how much prices go up.
It'll be interesting to see how that goes if you
want to be really cynical about this. But for right
now and for those of you who just want to
watch Mariners baseball and don't want to pay ridiculous cable prices,
and by the way, Cast signs of my check. I
will disavow that I was ever on this show, but
it is. There's just no denying that this is a
(24:07):
great option for those who don't want to be gouched.
Speaker 1 (24:10):
Yeah, and I mean I spent forty five minutes the
Comcast store on Thursday, in between March Madness games trying
to figure out some stuff to get you know, just
like account was all messed up different emails. Emails they
don't you know, just like I would just say housekeeping
for it. And it was pain in the ass. But
at the end of the day, I walked out there
and I'm paying ninety dollars a month less than I
was before because you find you find out what you
(24:32):
were paying for, what you don't need, all those types
of things. So you know there are ways around things
in this world. I'll just say that, like you can
if you you sometimes have to put an effort into it.
But I think we all applout. Okay, let's get to baseball.
Chris Mitchhanniger release probably not a surprise, not really.
Speaker 6 (24:47):
There was part of me that wondered if they were
really going to pay him fifteen point five million dollars
to not play for them, But I think they realized
that he just doesn't fit on this roster whatsoever. Like
he's not a good defensive player. He was god awful
against left handed pitching last year. He didn't look good
this spring. He dealt with a shoulder issue. Unfortunately, injuries
(25:08):
have been such a huge part of his career. You know,
I think Mitch Haniger, he was one of my favorite
players to watch in the earlier part or the middle
of last decade, like he could have been a star
if he would have stayed healthy, Like he had a
season that where he finished eleventh in MVP voting. But
he just doesn't make sense on the twenty twenty five roster.
And you know, I hope he goes and find somewhere,
(25:31):
and he is a reclamation project, and you better believe
he's going to try to find somewhere because otherwise, you know,
if he retires, he four fits fifteen point five million dollars,
So he's not going to do that. He's going to
go look for another job, I think. But yeah, Mitch
Haniger just doesn't make sense on the Seattle Maria roua.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
Well, and no athlete wants to be hurt like that,
you know. And I always kind of bristle when I hear, Oh,
that guy's just a band aid or he's injury prone
or things like that. I mean, there's stuff that happens,
and there's guys that don't work and stuff happens to
them maybe or what have you. But you know, bad
luck happens a lot. Like that's kind of what happens
more often than not, Like I'll use Chenna Nuosu for
(26:07):
the Seahawks for example. I've got to know him a
little bit on interviews and every things. We've done some
charity stuff over the years. That guy works his ass off.
He's been hurt the last two years. It's not because
he's not working. It's not because he's injury prone. He's
had bad luck, like just bad luck, you know. And
Mitch Haniger's probably had bad luck along the way or
misdiagnosis or whatever happens. Those things happened. But Nathan, I I,
(26:31):
first of all, one of the most popular players in
the clubhouse, one of the most popular players amongst fans
since he got here. But it was time, and I'm
with Chris Nathan I was. I was a little bit surprised.
I figured they just stashed him on the injured list.
See if he can get healthy. You're not going to
pay a guy that kind of money just not to play.
Speaker 2 (26:47):
But here we are.
Speaker 1 (26:47):
I mean again, something that you know fans don't want
to always agree. You know, they are cheap from baseball
operation standpoint, Nathan, but this is not a cheap move.
This was a move that cost him a lot of money.
Speaker 4 (26:59):
Yeah, And I think that all we can do is
is in this one singular instance, we can say that
this is a nice thing to see, because this is
an organization that does have a track record of just
running guys out there. We've seen arguably the insistence on
doing that with players like Aj Pollock and Colton Wong
and other players that they're chasing bad money has cost
him the playoffs the last two seasons, and so for
(27:21):
them to be the one thing that I would never
have described the Seattle manners of recent vintage as is proactive.
And that's what this move feels like to me. It's
accepting the reality of the situation and not just kind
of trying to kick the can down the road and
maybe trying to catch lightning in a bottle. Maybe he
gets healthy this No. I love Mitch. I think he's great.
(27:41):
I was doing research on him for a like BA
article that I'm writing tomorrow, and I was reminded of
that players Tribute article he wrote right after the twenty
twenty one season when and it made me want Mitch
to come back here and be the voice of this
organization because he said at the very beginning of that article,
he said the goal every year is to win the
World Series. How hard is that to say? Mitch did
it in twenty twenty one, so he already gets it.
(28:03):
And I think that's why fans love Mitch so much
is because he was such an obvious competitor who loved
playing baseball and was willing to work his butt off
through a lot of injuries in order to try to
get on the field. But it's time, man. It happens
to every single player. We never know what's going to happen.
I really really am grateful for him being here. He's
a top I don't know, five six, Jerry Depoto aira
(28:25):
Seattle Mariner. He's been a great ballplayer. I've enjoyed rooting
for him. But also kudos to the team for whether
we can we can talk later about whether the twenty
six guys on this roster are particularly good or if
they chose the twenty six best. But what Mitch Haniger
getting DFA says to me is that they are putting
the twenty six best that they think they have out
onto the field, and that's a refreshing change.
Speaker 1 (28:47):
Well, I think, to wrap up this segment, the other
reality is is that he also plays in a position
if we want to just use outfield for for a second,
not dhs outfield. He's playing at a position where if
he was a second baseman, he might still be here,
or they might just cash them on on the injured
list and wait see if he gets healthy. But they
actually have a couple guys that can play in the outfield,
(29:07):
so it's but good for them, And yeah, sucks for Mitch.
But thanks Mitch, and I forgot about that article on Nathan.
I'm glad you brought that up because I think that's
a good point. This is a guy that was outspoken
before cal Rawley, was outspoken about wanting to win, and
I think Mariner fans should appreciate that as well. For Mitchanna, girl,
we'll take a break, come back. I want to do
one more things. We gotta get to the infield. Ryan Bliss,
(29:29):
is he your second baseman? What does that mean? Is
Polanco really the third baseman? Andrews brought this up earlier
based on what we seen in Cactus League. Who's your
first basement? We'll talk about that, rowdy roddy Piper. We'll
find out next nine three point three KJFM.
Speaker 5 (29:47):
You're listening to the exclusive home of the Huskies, the
Krake and March Madness. Now back to Ian Furnesz proudly
brought to you by Snow Calney Casino on Sports Radio
ninety three point three kJ.
Speaker 1 (30:00):
We are Fail, Mollie Want Monday brought to you by
Simply Seattle Simply Seattle dot com. New location located in
the University Village right opening was this weekend. Big congratulations
the crew at simply Sail, and I mentioned this on
social media. I'll say it again publicly here on the radio.
Big thanks to them, the crew at Simply Seattle. They
(30:20):
allow us to do this with Nathan and Chris, I
say thank you. You might want to yell and blame
those guys for this, but that's fine. That's our simply listen.
Their local company, support local, please support local, and they
support us on this station, softing and my show specifically.
So big thanks to the crew out there. Okay, so
the it feels like we've got a roster set coming
(30:42):
into the season. We'll get through pitching and outfield and
other things. The infielders JP Crawford, Luke Rayley sounds like
Roddy tells Hora Polonko', Donovan Solono Dylan Moore, Ryan Bliss
and Chris helped me out. Miles Master Bony, Yeah, thank you.
Speaker 4 (30:57):
It right, could have that could have been real bad
for you.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
I'm proud of you. But I know I'll tell you
right now when I looked at that and redd it
cold Romberg in the style if my life flashed before
my very eyes. All right, let's so, Chris is Ryan Bliss,
your second basement is Luke Railey or rowdy to who's
your first baseman? And are we really sold on? Is
our third basement here in Seattle going to be Jorge Polanco? Boy?
Speaker 2 (31:22):
This is this is so now.
Speaker 1 (31:24):
I'm gonna say this. Seven days ago, I asked you
the exact same question. Have we made any progress?
Speaker 5 (31:29):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (31:30):
Yeah, no, No.
Speaker 6 (31:32):
I think what we've made is progress towards determining who's
going to be in this infield. But I don't think
we've made progress in terms of this being one of
the better in fields in the American League. You know,
I'm gonna be curious to see, like Jorge Polanco swinging
the bat well in Arizona has not looked good at
(31:53):
third base from a lot of people that I have
talked to, Ryan Bliss has had a very solid spring.
Is he going to be a bona fide starting second basement?
I have my doubts. Rowdy te Les, you know, I
talked about him last week that he was excellent over
the summer. But ten pounds of crap and a five
pound peg to begin the year and to end the
(32:14):
year as well, how much are you relying on that.
I will say this, I was taught joking with Nathan
off when we were in commercial break. Ryan Bliss standing
next to Rowdy Teles is the best buddy cop comedy
that you could have ever because you have a five
foot four guy and a interior offensive lineman playing first
(32:35):
base sitting next to him. I mean, that's just perfect.
And if the Mariners are really good at marketing, they'll
figure something out here. All of this to say, I
think this infield probably stinks. Wow, Nathan, how do you
follow that up?
Speaker 1 (32:49):
Nathan?
Speaker 4 (32:50):
I concur with my colleagues's opinion here. I was in
Arizona last weekend and I was again Chris and I
were talking off air. I will say one nice thing
here is I saw Ryan Bliss range to his right
and make a defensive play at second base, which I'm
not here to say any any sort of scouting opinion.
(33:11):
On defense. We watched Torge Polanco play defensive second last year.
We'll watch him play third this year, and it was
so refreshing to see a guy be able to athletically
get over to his right side and make a play
in the whole intern and make a throw. Do I
think he's going to hit enough to stick?
Speaker 5 (33:25):
No?
Speaker 4 (33:25):
Do I think Graddy till This is going to hit
enough to stick?
Speaker 3 (33:27):
No?
Speaker 4 (33:27):
Do I think the hoy Plunk is going to play
good defense to day healthy?
Speaker 7 (33:29):
No?
Speaker 4 (33:30):
Do I think JP Crawford's going to bounce back?
Speaker 8 (33:32):
Eh?
Speaker 4 (33:32):
I think he's going to be like better than last year,
significantly worse than twenty twenty three. I don't know, man like,
I don't know what you say about this infield, there's
good parts of this team. This is not it.
Speaker 1 (33:46):
Their lineup today in their final spring training game, robless
let off playing right field, Julio centerfield hit second. Col
was the DH, but that's just the game of the day.
Garber was the catcher, So we just flip flopped those
at whatever say cal hits third. Solano was your first baseman.
Polanko was your third baseman. Garba I mentioned was the
catcher Crawford, shortstop Blissit's second They gave Roblis got the
(34:10):
sore hand, gave him the day off, so master Bony
was in left field. Stop smiling when I say that
guy's name. Anyway, that was like, so let's just take
Robos goes to left field and garver is either is
probably your maybe your DH or what have you, And
obviously Cal's catching. That's kind of looking like probably your
opening day lineup, Chris So is your first baseman? Is
(34:33):
it Solano? Is it Raley? Is Ralely your DH? What
do you think they're gonna roll up to that first series?
Speaker 6 (34:38):
I really don't know, And I'm fascinated to see how
this is going to go, because, like you, it just
seemed like a perfect lockstep for Luke Rayley to make
the move to first base. And I think he's played
first base in negative six spring training games this year
by my count, So I don't know how confident they
(34:58):
are in there. Maybe they're so confident and Luke Rayley
playing first base that he hasn't needed the work this spring.
That seems weird to me before a position he hasn't
played very often. Rodney Teles is not a good defensive player.
There is a real lack of range for my triple B,
my big beefy boy. That is going to be more
of an issue than I think anybody really realizes. I
(35:22):
don't know what the heck they're gonna do. It seems
it seems like they really like Donovan Solano too. Like
he's hit in the middle of the order in these
last few games. I think that makes sense against left handers.
If I see him hitting cleanup or fifth against right
handed pitching, I am gonna have an anteurysm. And I
have enough bad things going on in my life that
I don't need that one. I don't know. This is
(35:46):
so weird to me because why has Luke Railey played
such so little at first base? It doesn't make any
sense to me unless they are that confident that Luke
Rayley's gonna be fine there, or they are that confident
Luke greatly isn't the answer there? The ultimate shoulder shrug emodi.
I just don't understand what is happening here.
Speaker 1 (36:07):
Nathan coul occurs, I see him smiling and nodding his head.
So we'll stop right there. Okay, let's do some shameless
not shameless self promotion before we say goodbye, Nathan. Light
Bat new article coming out sounds like, yep.
Speaker 4 (36:20):
We got a new article coming out tomorrow. We'll recap
the week and look forward to the next phase of
the light Bat and a couple announcements of some new features,
and then on Thursday and Opening Day will be dropping
our big season preview. Very excited about that. The Lightbat
dot substack dot com. It is totally free. You can
give me money if you want to, but it will
still be free whether you do that or you do not.
Thank you so much to everyone who's already subscribed.
Speaker 1 (36:43):
And I'll just I'll add a couple of things. Both
these guys are terrific writers and do a great job
with stuff. Nathan uses a lot of big words that
you have to use with the sarisis for, but that's
fine anyway. It's a good stocking on that you're doing
a good job. Chris is ab as busy as it
gets and now baseball starting, which means even more so
because I believe we've got some mile way, We've got
Emerald City spectrum. What do you got going on? My friend?
Speaker 6 (37:02):
I have so much and I apologize that this might
take a little bit of time. So first, NBC Sports,
I just dropped my top ten fantasy prospects for twenty
twenty five.
Speaker 1 (37:11):
If you're playing fans that.
Speaker 6 (37:14):

Seattle Mariner prospects for myo Y enthusiasts. It's four ninety
nine a month. You get that, you get weekly chats,

The Mariners have the third pick. It's as important a
(37:35):
draft for them as they've had in a very long time.
And then finally, Emerald City Spectrum. Uh please check it out.
Like it is six dollars to support local journalism and
we have great stuff for every single local team. Anders
does terrific work with the Sounders in the Rain. We
have a fantastic rugby writer for the Seattle Sea Wolves
(37:56):
who has the great His name is Calligan. I can't
image a better name for a rugby right now, Like
it's just super good. I'm writing stuff for the Mariners,
I'm writing stuff for the kracking. I'm gonna call Ian
tomorrow and ask for an idea for an article on
the kraken, because he might have a pretty good idea
for me, I'm hoping. Please check it out. You have
to support local journalism. It's so important that we have
(38:20):
local content. Please and thank you. Six bucks a month,
very cheap.
Speaker 1 (38:24):
Corman does a great job with the Seahawks as well.
I know, and I know that you and the other
guy writing the Mariners are really highly thought of, tokay,
So yeah, so thanks excellent writer. At least the other
guy is all right, That is Chris Crawford. He's gonna
go back to his Cougar gold cheese. Nathan Bishop as well.
We're big thanks to simply sales simply out of come.
Uh the fair warning. You'll hear from them again later
this week at a time to be determined. We'll do
(38:46):
previews and predictions and thoughts on the season ahead. And
you know what, all the nonsense aside, fellows, We've got
baseball starting Thursday.
Speaker 4 (38:53):
Amen, So excited.
Speaker 1 (38:55):
Let's get going, all right, thanks, guys, we'll come back.
We'll talk about the weekend that was especially at Climate Pledgerina.
Next No from the Star rentals sports.
Speaker 5 (39:05):
To us Jordan ninety three point three KJRFM Sports Headlines.
Speaker 1 (39:09):
Headlines are brought to you by Frost Brewed Coors Light
Choose Chill. Sweet sixteen is set seven teams from the
SEC and this is the first Sweet Sixteen since two
thousand and seven with no teams seated twelve or lower.
On the men's side. NCAA coaching carousel well underway, Xavier
Sean Miller replacing Rodney Terry at Texas, Iowa has hired Drakes,
(39:33):
Ben McCollum, Minnesota hiring Colorado State's Nico medved We had
the way he's at Georgia or a gofer, a lama,
I should say, so he's going back home. Makes sense.
The other guys, of course, just going from mid majors
to Power five Conference or Power four Conference schools, and
that's the way of the world. Also, the basketball portal
opened up today too. Fun times, good times, seven ones
(39:55):
in the portal. It's interesting seeing teams or schools and
players from schools that are powerful are also going to
the portal. Like I think, I think you're not a
cool kid unless you're in the portal. Yeah, that's true,
you know, that's that's a you problem. All right, let's
get to it. Hour two.
Speaker 5 (40:11):
You're listening to the exclusive home of the Huskies, the
Krack and March Madness. Now back to Ian Furnesz proudly
brought to you by snow Calney Casino on Sports Radio
ninety three point three kJ R.
Speaker 1 (40:24):
That fam hour two of the show. Welcome back in
Fornass with you in the studio on our Foundation Specialist Studio.
I should tell you also our good friend Anderson Hurst
in the other room. Tomorrow at nine am. From nine
(40:45):
to eleven, it's the KGr State of the Seattle Sports Show.
A lot of big topics. I'm told that we're gonna
hit on for a couple hours. Let's see, do do
look at the top I'm not gonna leak the topics
because that would just not be right. Yeah, God forbid
you do that. Nine to eleven tomorrow. A new guy
(41:07):
was asking me the last time we did this was
I said, I don't know. I think it's like ten
years ago. It's been a while. It's been a while. Yeah.
Us to discuss Major League Baseball season opening Day Thursday.
Local baseball team side for that, Seahawks fans are still
mad about not having offensive lineman they like, or you know,
they haven't signed anybody that two weeks ago they had
never heard of the guy's name. But then he signs elsewhere,
(41:29):
and it's like the worst move that Schneider never made,
on and on whatever. Well will player ever? Yeah, okay, whatever, man.
So we'll hit on all those topics tomorrow. Okay, I
do want to hit on this a little bit. And
I was showing with a couple friends I got we
got a bunch of text in as well. We'll get
(41:49):
to we'll get to some stuff. We'll get to some
stuff in terms of the actual event in college basketball
and where we stand with it now and all those
things in a minute. I want to start first with
just the fact that we had basketball at that level
in in Seattle for the first time, you know, in
(42:13):
a while. I think the women's tournaments here a couple
years ago, right, yes, right, yeah, so but this is like,
so this was, this was awesome. We get this here,
it's great, and away we go. What are you crying for, lady,
I'm watching the Oklahoma game. The big girl just got
knocked to the floor and she's balling like she's dead,
but she's walking off the floor. I then she got
(42:34):
hit in the face. I'm very I'm sorry. I'm morbidly
curious about this now, like like it's like it's the
end of the world. Like okay, all right, I'm sorry,
I digress. AnyWho, the tournament, the tournament comes here, and
you know, you have a pretty good mix of out
of town fans and then people from here, right, and
(42:56):
it's sold out. The tournament sold out, but there's a
ton of tickets on the secondary market, and that's kind
of how it works. And it works. It's not just
a Seattle think. It's all across the country, right. But
my thoughts are and we'll get to the text at
the bottom of the hour. And I want to get
Andrews as well, because we went there on Friday together,
and frankly, I just went there. I wasn't going to
the press conference. I didn't, you know, I didn't really
(43:17):
care about that. I wanted to see basketball in this arena.
I wanted to see a big event in this arena
that was not local team centric, and I thought it
looks fantastic. I know there were some people a little
bit upset about getting into the games, and I checked
with I had two friends specifically that I know went
(43:38):
to go and they said, this is this is one
of the feedback on the security line to get in
the building was a little long, but that was during
the switchover between session one and session two, and I
think that was kind of the complaint that people were
they didn't quite understand why they couldn't get back in
the building. You got to clear the building after the
(43:59):
first two games on Saturday. On Friday, clear the building
and then kind of reset everything and then you go
back in. So it's different than if you go to
a game there for the Kraken right or a Storm
game or something like that. Whe's just one game. They
tell you the gates are going to open it six,
and they open it six and you get right in
after you know whatever. The line looks like, okay, in
their security and all those things, I get that. I
(44:19):
think the people that are upset, I would just say
that part of it is is there's a switchover. They
literally have to do a sweep of the building and
kick everybody out. Because the same person who might be
complaining about standing in the rain trying to get in
the building, you have a reserve ticket. So I'm not
sure what what the hurry was, but you're complaining about that, Well,
they're trying to get eybody out, because then if you
go to sit in section twenty row four, seat three
(44:40):
and D or whatever the hell it is, and someone's
sitting there for the previous session, you can be pissed
about that too, right, right, got to get thee out. Yeah,
and yes, concessions aren't cheap. I get all those things.
Parking is that, but I think we've all learned about
climate pledge in the four years the kracking have been
here and the same time I guess the storm have
probably played there as well. Those are inherent things that
we've all kind of figured out a way around, whether
(45:02):
it be parking, transportation. You know, we want to eat
before the game instead, It does a matter what have
you find a place? I thought this, I thought the
bottom line is this. I thought the building itself was unbelievable,
like it just was for basketball. It's a great hockey building,
and I mean it is a great hockey building, like
(45:24):
top shelf on every level, and it just there's something
about that building is loud for hockey. It's set up
where you don't have bad seats for hockey. Everything about
it is good for hockey, and it's hard to do
that and then replicate it for a completely different sport
(45:45):
and set up, in this case basketball. But boy, it
sure looks that way. And I wanted around enough to see, like,
I don't think there's a bad seat for basketball. The
funny thing is there are some bad seats for hockey,
but people still want to sit in. And the bad
seats for hockey really what they are. They are behind
the benches, like kind of restrictive viewing, but people want
to be there. I get that you're out posts, yeah right,
(46:06):
all that stuff, but like the actual seats, anything like
two rows on up, are fantastic for hockey and basketball
look the same way. It's going to be an incredible
venue when the Sonics come back.
Speaker 2 (46:17):
It just is.
Speaker 1 (46:18):
And again, I know they've been playing WNBA games there.
I'm sorry I haven't been there, and I andres you
know my philosophy on the NBA preseason games. I will
never go to an NBA preseason game that doesn't involve
our team called the Sonics, period, end of story. I
don't need the NBA to throw me a bone. Our
team was here for forty one years. Hell, I didn't
(46:38):
want to go to the NBA preseason games when I
worked for the Blazers or the Jazz. I sure as
hell don't want to go when I'm not working for
those teams. So yeah, I know we've had games here,
but I'm not doing that nonsense. You do you If
you want to go watch meaningless preseason games where nobody plays,
that's fine.
Speaker 3 (46:54):
This really was the first big basketball main event that
was like, we can all agree, like the storm doesn't
fill up the entire arena, right, so that's no, it's.
Speaker 1 (47:05):
No, it's this is this was and it was loud.
Yeah it was.
Speaker 2 (47:11):
Hell.
Speaker 1 (47:11):
I like we set up in the press box and
I was like, oh, no, how this is going to be.
It's fantastic, awesome to you. I think the last not
I think, I know the last game I saw in
CAA tournament wise here in Seattle was I believe ninety one.
Somebody can fact check me on that one. But I
lose ninety one at the Kingdom and I sat in
the upper deck three hundred level the Kingdom. Those weren't
(47:33):
good seats. So yeah, it was. The arena was great,
and I think what we showed more than anything. And
this is the most important part. Yes, a ton of
fans from outside of Seattle came and I'll get to
that part of the equation in a minute. But this
is a this is a city that loves its basketball,
and we always want to have the debate. Are we
a basketball city? Are we a football city? Are we
(47:56):
a hockey town? Seattle hockey city? Yes? Is are we
NFL city? We should never ever sports fans in our
town and our city ever kind of just pigeonhole ourselves
into being one. We're a great sports town, right, We
just are. And I can say that with full confidence
having worked in other markets and traveled all across the
country to other markets and to other places and to
(48:18):
see other fans, whether it be NHL games, NBA games,
or for a long time NFL games. Sales are great
sports town. You give them a reason to go, they will.
You give them a reason to support, we will. It's
really that simple. And hell, for the most part, a
lot of our teams haven't given our fans a big
reason to go spend money and at support, and they
(48:40):
still do and they're passionate. But yeah, man, we're an NBA.
We're not takeing nbaway. We're a great basketball town. I'll
go even a step further. Every year I go down
to the Tacoma Dome for a reason to do at
least one show down there during the State of High
School Basketball tournament. Why because it's awesome. Because people go
down there just to watch hoops, not just if you're
kids playing or your you know, daughter's boyfriend or or
(49:03):
your son's girlfriend's playing, doesn't matter, or you're in alum
people go watch hoops. We like hoops here. We're a
good sports town, really good sports town. You know, there's
a lot of talk. Oh you know there's people saying, ah, this,
this shows the NBA and they need to come back
to Seattle. Well, if that was the case, Providence will
Rhode Island we get an NBA team because they had
a good weekend as well, hosting first and second round games.
(49:24):
That means nothing. The NBA couldn't care less. But we
do have the venue, and I think that's the most
important thing. And every time I walk in that building,
every time I walk in that building, I realize what
an absolute dumpster fire Chiarina was. And that's why we
don't have the NBA right now. Is because of that,
that's why we don't have the NBA now. Is the
(49:47):
building to blame or Howard to blame? Yes, the answers yes, Okay,
the answers yes. He goes back to Barry Acurlely Virginia
Anderson ran the cl Center that that's what's to blame
is the renovation of the coliseum. But we can't do
anything of out that. And now we move on this.
I will just say when we get the NBA back,
what a great venue it's going to be for the
(50:08):
Sonics when they return, much like it's an incredible venue
for the hockey team right now, and I'm sure for
Storm fans as well. We did a good job the
other part of it before I want you to chime
in the second Anders So, I did say this. I
checked with a couple of people and I said, you know, like,
what's what was the what was the vibe around Lower
Queen Anne. I didn't go out anywhere you did you
(50:31):
did you find it a little bit on Sunday? Okay? Yes, okay?
Uh So I checked it with my guys at Queen
Ane Beer Hall with Justin and Gary up there, and
they said all in all, great weekend both. Uh, but
I said they said about forty percent above average?
Speaker 2 (50:45):
Was there was there?
Speaker 1 (50:46):
Really? Gat? They said, here was it? They had their
best week ever. Now it also included Saint Patrick's Day
last week as well. Wow, but that's saying something because
when the Cracker went in the playoffs a couple of
years ago, that was insane. It was when the Mariners
were in the playoffs. Remember that they were packing that
place for viewing parties for the Mariners. So basically, Gary
(51:07):
from the Queen and Beer Hall, he just says, incredible
weekend for all the restaurants near the arena, record sales.
I'm hearing from almost everybody that had a place around
the arena, people sending a message we can support whatever
comes up there. They also both met and mentioned that
CPA should get the Sweet sixteen illiti eate. Yeah, they should,
we should get that there.
Speaker 3 (51:25):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (51:25):
But I think that's the thing that's interesting we hear oftentimes,
is there an economic impact? Does it matter to have
a building in your city and things like that? Well, yeah,
it does it absolutely. Does they get the new place
open across from the arena that looked like it was jammed, Oh, yeah,
the whole time. You and I walked by there, I
think on Friday with mine out the door, line out
(51:46):
the door, queen an beer hall line out the door.
Speaker 3 (51:49):
I went on Saturday after we went to the first
session of games and crazy crazy, and that place is huge.
And that place is huge. Yeah, you know, Buckley's is small.
Speaker 1 (51:58):
It's always packed anyway, and there's some other spots kind
of popping up now opening up. It was great. That's
why you have big events in your city. And frankly, folks,
we're not going to have a lot of those. We're
never going to have a super Bowl here. And it's
not because the stadium's outdoors. That's part of it. That
building is not super Bowl compatible.
Speaker 6 (52:15):
It's not.
Speaker 1 (52:16):
I love Luminfield, absolutely love it for football, but we're not. Yeah,
but we're not going to have We're not going to
have a super Bowl here. It's a massive undertaking for
the staff. It's just not going to happen. We're probably
never gonna have an NFL Draft here. NHL draft used
to be on site. They're not doing that anymore, so
we're not going to have that. That was actually cool.
I'd love to see that here because that's like all
the teams are on the floor of the arena. You
(52:36):
see them getting up walking talking to guys and on
all the prospects. We won't have that because they change
up the format of the NHL Draft. All Star games
are dying.
Speaker 5 (52:44):
You know.
Speaker 1 (52:44):
We had the All Star Game here from aj League
Baseball couple of years ago. I thought it was cool,
you know, and we had so many people from outside
the town. They kind of somehow got rid of all
the winnebagos and abandoned RVs around town. It was kind
of nice for a couple of weeks. But you know,
that's such a massive undertaking, a huge, huge thing for
uh like from this case the Mariner staff to do
same thing outdoor classic the hockey game last year, it's hard.
(53:09):
This is something that I mean, it can't happen every year,
but man, every couple of years, we need to have
that here. Yeah, because it was I think, by all accounts,
an incredible success and a ton of fun and more
than ay, a ton of fun, Like it was a
ton of fun. Basketball was fun. It was just it
was a it was a win for our city throughout
the weekend.
Speaker 3 (53:29):
Yeah, I mean, and I like how you mentioned the
economic impact because the message from everyone, all the restaurants
around and your guys from queen An Beer Hall said
it too. It's like they're supposed to be competing with
each other, but it was all just a win for
everyone at that point.
Speaker 1 (53:43):
Yeah, No, Gary and Justin are great. They kind of
organized some of the stuff up there with some of
the smaller places, and they, you know, because everybody wants
everybody to succeed exactly, you know, because you can't hear
a thing. Realities can't fit everybody in one place, so
you know, you want it to be that way, you know.
And and years and years ago when you know Haalis
Goes was open, and then you know kJ I was
doing the rallies in the alley and all that fun stuff.
(54:03):
That's that's part of the fun of sports going somewhere beforehand.
You know, you watch Monday opening day on Thursday, it's
you know, the weather I think isn't going to be good,
so it might take a little bit off because you know,
like you kind of want the I mean, the half back.
People want to say what they want to say about
the hat back. But you know, the old days, the
pyramid and I think halfback has outdoor stuff. Sometimes it's
(54:24):
a spot right next to the stadium, but I mean
like the outdoor beer guard. Yeah, like that may not
be as much fun if it's if it's raining. But
you look at what a Seahawk game's like. You want
the pregame vollgating. Yeah, you dub games even all that.
You want the pre game vibe. And I thought we
had that. So win win, get your thoughts on that
four nine four or five to one on the text line,
and and away you go and the games and the
games for the most part.
Speaker 3 (54:45):
And that is what I was gonna mention is like
the biggest thing for me. I This was also my
first basketball event that I went to at Climbing the
Pledge Arena.
Speaker 1 (54:53):
So I haven't gone to a Storm game there. I haven't.
So you were like me, You were a basketball CPA
basketball version. Yeah, exactly. Guinea pig action there and I
was impressed by Uh. I mentioned this to you when
we were there. You look at games on TV for
March Madness, right, you see lower bowls like half full
in the first couple rounds, especially early games, right right, Yeah,
(55:14):
you did not see that here.
Speaker 2 (55:15):
It was full.
Speaker 3 (55:16):
People were the atmosphere was awesome. I mean Grand Canyon
brought an entire student section to their game, which was
crazy because they lost by thirty, but.
Speaker 1 (55:24):
You know, it is what it is, for profit university,
they could afford it. Yeah, and but the games were awesome.
Speaker 3 (55:29):
How about those two games yesterday, Insane games, great finishes.
Speaker 1 (55:33):
Probably you could Seattle got the best finish of the tournament,
so they say you could have.
Speaker 3 (55:36):
You could say it was the best game of the
tournament so far, the Maryland Carlado State game. And we'll
hear some from the from the coaches here in a
little bit. But yeah, I think it was just a
win all around. Uh basketball. And that's the thing. There
wasn't like a specific rooting interest unless you just came
to hate on Oregon or you can't like Oregon is
probably the closest team to come up.
Speaker 1 (55:55):
There was a lot of people there. I did think.
I think there was a lot of people there that
were that were into hating Oregon, which is good. Yeah,
I mean best part of it. Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Do
you have that audio?
Speaker 5 (56:04):
I do.
Speaker 1 (56:04):
We are second here. I want to get to that,
which was the shorter of the two.
Speaker 3 (56:09):
Kevin Willard on you know his NIL situation with players
performing well.
Speaker 1 (56:14):
So Kevin Willard from Maryland was asked after the game about,
you know, the NIL world and what it means, all
the transfers and what these kids are going through.
Speaker 7 (56:25):
The game has changed.
Speaker 1 (56:26):
You know that they play well and the next thing
you know, they're nil. Dogs go up.
Speaker 7 (56:29):
You know, the transfer portal opens up.
Speaker 1 (56:32):
I think tomorrow ian brilliant move by n C double A,
which is today, by the way, I mean, there's sixteen
teams still playing, there's nit team still playing, God, what
have you, and it's already opened up. It's almost as
that's in some ways it's probably worse than college football
when that opens up there. Yeah, the bowl season the
other one I want to hear from. And this is interesting.
Nico Medvett was the Colorado State coach when he says
(56:54):
these words. Yes, he's no longer the Colorado State coach
because less than twenty four hours after his team gets eliminated,
he's now the head coach again at his alma mater
at the University of Minnesota with the Gophers. But he
was asked if it's and this is interesting, he's coming
from the mid major. You hear the question in its
perfect go ahead, coach, you.
Speaker 8 (57:12):
Guys obviously proved you can hang with some of the
best teams in the country. You were right there. But
when you look at the lower seeds for the most
part in this tournament, it's gone pretty chalk. Do you
feel like, with the shift in the college sports landscape
and I own all that stuff, it's gonna be harder
and harder for the lower seeds to make runs or
is this just one of those.
Speaker 1 (57:32):
Years that's a great question.
Speaker 7 (57:35):
I mean, it's if I'm being honest, it's probably a
little bit of both. Sometimes years happen, you know, the
way that they are and all that stuff like that,
But it's getting more difficult. I think what's changed in
college basketball is there's not as many there's not as
many old mid major teams as there used to be,
you know, all the time where you got guys who
(57:56):
you know, played together for two, three, four years at
the mid may level. There's not as much of that
because you know, older guys who've played together, you know,
really really are pretty good. So I think there's some
of that, But sometimes it's just the way the year goes,
you know what I mean, People win and so again,
I think it's hard to generalize, but you know, the
honest answer is it's probably a little bit of both.
Speaker 1 (58:18):
I would agree Matt Hawkins, I think asked that question
from the sale time. Yes, you did the shift in
the landscape. You know, lower seeds can they make runs?
It's a great question because that's what everyone's talking about
with March madness right now is the fact that you
only have four conferences represented, and they are the four
power conferences for football as well that are representing the
Sweet sixteen. One of those only has one team. That's
(58:39):
the acc What we saw a reflection of in the
Sweet sixteen is is and this is college sports as
a whole. Yeah, the power lies with those four conferences.
It's as simple as that. Now. Is this year a
one off? I mentioned this to Mark when we were
talking about it earlier in cross talk. Let's wait and
see what next year brings. Yeah, but I think Nico
Medvett again, the irony is that he's already gone from
(59:01):
his mid major at Colorado State to go back to
his alma moderate at Minnesota, which is not a great
Big ten job. You can make an arguments bottom three
or four Big ten job but it's a big ten job.
But he goes back there and he had great success
at Colorado State. No reason to think he wouldn't have
that same success at Minnesota. But developing young guys, developing
(59:22):
players over three or four years. I was telling you
the story about when Wazoo, when Tony Bennett went to
Washington State, they took their lumps for two years with
Dick Bennett, his dad was coaching. But they have the
same guys, the same core, six seven, eight guys. After
two years it came in as freshmen. By the time
they were juniors, they developed and they improved. Mike McDonald
said this to Chuck and Buck the other day, like
(59:44):
players can get better, and you do see that, especially
in college athletics. Players get better. The problem now, if
you want to call it a problem, or the issue now,
if you want to call it an issue, is that
those same players that maybe get better, they get better,
and then they leave and go to a bigger school
and take more money. So maybe we have seen the
last of the cinderellas. Maybe we have seen the last
of it. I don't know. We'll find out over the
(01:00:05):
next couple of years. This year might have been a
one off, and really, frankly, you can make a pretty
strong argument that Colorado States should be in the Sweet sixteen.
Travel no travel, I don't know, you know, what's goal ten?
And interference? What's a catch in the NFL? What's a
travel in basketball? None of those things can be defined truly,
but you could they were. They were a whisper away
from having that team there. We may never see George
(01:00:25):
Mason again because the Mountain West is pretty damn good conference.
Like they're a mid major, but they're the best mid
major right there. I mean, the Big East in the
mid in the Mountain West conference are both really good.
They just didn't get any teams through this year. Right
like Yukon won the national championship. Let's remember, let's not
we're not too far row twice in a row. If
they're not a Power five conference or top power four conference,
(01:00:47):
you know, and and so that does come into play
a little bit. Gonzaga has been to Final fours, has
played in a championship game. They just saw a nine
nine straight years again in the Sweet sixteen, just got
snapped there from the WCC soon to be the new
Power twelve. San Diego State played for National Championship just
a couple of years ago, so I don't think we're
that far removed from it. I think this year was
(01:01:08):
a one off, but I hope so, because Cinderella is
still fun.
Speaker 5 (01:01:10):
It is.
Speaker 1 (01:01:11):
Cinderella is still fun. It's fun to see Cinderella in
the marchmadows. That's kind of part of what the tournament's about.
But shout out to Seattle, shout out to U dub.
Jeff Beck told his staff did a great job at
least on that, and you know what, on the media side,
that's that's kind.
Speaker 2 (01:01:23):
Of but it was.
Speaker 1 (01:01:24):
I kind of use that as a barometer because sometimes
if it's screwed up for the media's probably screwed up
for everybody. And those guys did a great job. They
did a really good jomb All right, take a right,
come back, check the text.
Speaker 5 (01:01:32):
Next, you're listening to the exclusive home of the Huskies,
the Krack and March Madness. Now back to Ian Furnesz
proudly brought to you by Snow Call Me Casino on
Sports Radio ninety three point three kJ r FM.
Speaker 1 (01:01:52):
We'll get to texta a second, Anderson, I'll bring this
up a softy maybe too did you see the thing
with Bobby Hurley or Dan Hurley, Oh sorry, walking off
like he like one second he's like, hey, you know
telling Tracy Wolfson, Oh you know, it's really hard and
you know, emotional interview blah blah blah. Then the other
viral video that went with him going down the tunnel
(01:02:13):
after the game and he's, you know, basically complaining about
officiing says, I hope they don't blank you, like they
blanked us talking to Baylor who's getting ready to go
on the floor, you know, right. And so they turns
out that the video was taped by a guy from
Charlotte News I think it is Bobby Bobby, but then
(01:02:35):
Bobby Mullens, who's the director of Communication is basically the
SID sports and rision director for Yukon threatened. This reporter
of Charlotte News Live says, if he doesn't take the
video down, he'd ruin his life. Well, it's too late.
The videos up. Everyone's capturing it. So yeah, everyone's seeing it,
and he does all this I was trying. There's been
a lot of those videos. You see people like the
(01:02:55):
kids leave the floor and they're going down the hallway
and there's like tons of emotion going on. There's a
really simple way to get away from that, like don't
allow those that video to be shot, don't allow the
media down there until after the kids, you know, everyone's
in the locker room, and you would probably solve that problem.
I was just trying to confirm with the Seahawks. I
don't think. I don't think we're allowed to shoot video
(01:03:17):
in the hallways of stadiums when guys are coming off.
And really the only place it's really kind of a
thing is when you're playing a road game, right because
then you walk down tunnel hallway and stuff. There's been
many a times when I've been standing there waiting to
do a postgame show live shots or whatever yet and
we're live, we're not on the air yet waiting for players,
(01:03:38):
but we're all set up and we you know, like
most of these stadiums, when the Seahawks are playing a
road game, there's a long, you know, twenty thirty yard
walk maybe longer, depending on what the stadium is, from
the field, down the tunnel and down the hallway into
the locker room, and you see and hear a lot
of stuff. And I'm pretty sure it's an NFL rule,
I just out of respect. I never shot any you know,
(01:03:59):
iner took stelf on video. I think I looked on
my phone. I had one and it was in Minnesota
when it was like zero degrees. I just wanted to
get the like how cold guys were. But when guys
are coming off and there, you know, there's some mfing
going on, there's a lot of stuff going on. Just
don't allow that, Like, don't open up the hallway to
media until afterwards. You probably solve that problem pretty quick
(01:04:20):
because what we end up seeing is that Dan Hurley's
kind of two faced.
Speaker 3 (01:04:24):
Yeah, I just I don't know. I can't stand him.
I really cannot stand well, he's almost as bad as mccronin.
Speaker 1 (01:04:30):
You know, mccronin is out. The Hurley thing that I
just found, Like it's kind of like when people complain
about doing our jobs, like we're doing sports radio. We're
in what the guess used to call it the toys
and games and games department. Yeah, or now I think
it's Kevin Calabrao said that, Oh, yes, that's what we're in.
You know, Bobby Hurley or Bobby Danny Hurley can't get
(01:04:53):
Bobby acu coach out of my mind, Danny Hurley complaining about, well,
at least this off season, I won't have to ring
the bell on Wall Street. I want to do all
the morning shows. Oh because you had to do those things?
Speaker 2 (01:05:05):
Why?
Speaker 1 (01:05:05):
Because you achieved what you're trying to achieve and you
won the championship. You dork, like, like, what is your
problem to strut? He's just like, can just have a
normal off season? I don't have to do all that
other stuff. Oh the horror of it? Because you won
the championship, you dingle Berry at the point of it. Yes, yes,
(01:05:27):
he's just such a knucklehead. You know what, here's a
good thing. The good thing is he's so unlikable. It's awesome.
Villain Yeah, like absolutely, How do you turn into a
villain when you're playing the number one seed? Well you're
Danny Hurley. Yes, that's what happens, and you're a two
time repeat champion. Exactly, exactly, all right, let's get some
(01:05:47):
text four nine, four or five one on the text
line free agent text line unrestricted free agent? Is that right?
They are able to sign with any one? Mitch Hanniger
Now not guaranteed fifteen million though, No, you're not Okay,
(01:06:11):
Ben says, you're gonna be in the state of supports
in the Seattle this morning, in the morning tomorrow with
Softy a new guy, Mark James in the same room.
How are you supposed to get a word in edgewise?
I won't, but I don't get paid by the words.
I really don't care. I'll have a coffee kick back.
Lots of guys go back and forth, chime in here there,
what do you know? Okay, zero reason to not put
(01:06:33):
the one year sit out for transfers back in. Zero
reason not to put a cap on nil for individuals
college kids who couldn't have a job need more than
one hundred thousand dollars. NCAA is destroying their own sports.
I just throw a real quick, kind of refreshing thing
from last night out there in regards to that. I
was watching the post game with Ore again on our
(01:06:54):
Friends on CBS Sports last night and they were talking
to the player's post game. Nick Biddle was asked about
next year coming back, and he says, I haven't really
thought about it, And the way they asked it was like,
this is but I'm graduating in two months, right, And
when he said I'm graduating from Oregon in two months.
(01:07:14):
I was like, oh, that's kind of cool, Like, yeah,
one was lasting. You heard something we talk about that graduation. Yeah,
student athletes, it's still school, I believe it or not. Yeah, okay,
let's see what else.
Speaker 3 (01:07:26):
Three six Attorney's back in twenty twenty eight first and
second rounds. But yes, we do need the Sweet sixteen and.
Speaker 1 (01:07:31):
E Lite eight. Yeah, yeah, that would be This town
deserves that, that arena deserves. It would be really cool. Yeah.
Forty five.
Speaker 3 (01:07:40):
My wife and I went to the Friday morning session
and also did ten years ago, and it was noticeably
more full.
Speaker 1 (01:07:45):
This year's CPA was great, and we also play as
early a game as possible. Right, our game, our first
game on Friday, was not as eleven o'clock, which the
earliest games on you know, the East Coast or at noon. Right,
so we're we're playing early games and yet we're still there.
Speaker 2 (01:08:01):
Right.
Speaker 1 (01:08:02):
Yeah, let's see what else we got. Oh, we talked
about the Mariner stuff. If somebody's a fan really wants
to watch the games, then they should do what they
can to watch the games. I find it hard to
believe that. Look, I ain't got a blanking pot to pisson.
I've never had any in the cable in my life.
I'm fifty five, never had cable lived my whole life.
(01:08:23):
Remember when it was pay per view to watch the
Sonics regular season games, we paid it. If you can't
afford it, you can't afford it, no reason to complain
about it. But you're really But if you're really truly
that irritated about it, get a life. It's something you
can't do anything about. Why even worry about Yeah, he
brought the Sonics. Yeah, the Sonics. Sonic Vision was a
thing back in the day where they did the pay
per view for Sonics games for a while. It was
(01:08:44):
before like Fox Sports, Rock Northwest and Sport Prime Sports.
The Blazers did it for a long time back when
they played before the Motor Center. So like in the
early up until like ninety four, they were playing in
the old Colisseum. There's only twelve thousand seats. They sold
out every game. So they did a pay per view
in Portland for a long time as well. So we've
just kind of cycled back to the old days.
Speaker 3 (01:09:03):
I was going to say, I think that's kind of
the future is kind of a lock cart. You kind
of pick what things you're gonna want, what channels you're
gonna want to watch. But yeah, because here's build your
own package sort of. The thing with television sports is this, yeah,
local TV. Yeah, you know, for a long time you're
doing it for local television rights, local radio rights, so
you can generate money as an organization through those rights fees. Well,
(01:09:24):
with the demise of regional sports networks, those rights fees
aren't what they used to be. They don't really exist
like they used to do anymore.
Speaker 1 (01:09:30):
And so what are you doing. Well, you still want
to get your product out there because you want people
to put eyeballs on it. You want to have more fans,
more fans by you get more fans by watching games. Right,
So maybe you're not going to make as much on
your rights fees, if anything, but you have better exposure.
I mean, it's been such a huge win for the
crack in this year. I can't even tell you, you know,
it's just it's been a massive win for them, and
(01:09:52):
they were ahead of the forefront. The first one is
to really kind of do it with I believe that
Utah Jazzma three years ago kind of started this model,
remember talking about it Yeah, they kind of started this model,
and I think that's what we're gonna see.
Speaker 3 (01:10:03):
Baseball teams followed suit. I think Diamondbacks and Guardians were
like the first two.
Speaker 1 (01:10:06):
Yeah, I think I want to say the Astros because
they're there there. R SN just got destroyed and fell apart.
So yeah, I mean all these things have happened. More options,
more options, pay the nineteen dollars or don't. Netflix ain't free? Nope,
Paramount Plus ain't free. You want to watch land Man?
You want to watch Well? I just bring that up
because I haven't subscribed yet because I want someone to watch.
(01:10:28):
I want to watch that. I just haven't got to
the point yet to have the time. What's the what's
the show? You guys watch your soccer show?
Speaker 3 (01:10:35):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (01:10:36):
Welcome to Wrexham? No the other one that?
Speaker 4 (01:10:38):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:10:38):
Yeah? Yeah? What's on Apple? Apple TV? Yeah? That ain't free.
I want to watch sed Lasso you know what, gotta
pay for it. My wife wants to watch Investigation ID.
Gotta pay for the cable. Yeah you do.
Speaker 4 (01:10:51):
Instigation ID so good.
Speaker 1 (01:10:53):
The story of Karen Reid killed her cop boyfriend in
the snow. Yeah, we're you're missed of watching that, right,
now my like so stuff. But that's stuff too. It's
weird anyways. It's like me said, it's like having a
chicken or a cow watch a cooking show. Doesn't make
any sense. We'll take a break, softies next. All right,
(01:11:26):
back checking in with the man down an Emerald Queen
Casino and probably cashing in ticket after ticket after ticket
for the weekend.
Speaker 2 (01:11:33):
I'm not Mark James, man, I'm the exact opposite of
Mark James.
Speaker 1 (01:11:36):
Okay, no, you're not, mister Vegas.
Speaker 9 (01:11:38):
No, no, no, okay, all right, But the difference between
me and Mark James is I will tell you about
the bets I lost, not just the ones I won. Okay,
Mark's the count of guy that just tells you about
the gals that said yes, not the ones that called
him a creep.
Speaker 1 (01:11:52):
Well, there you go, and you can have you'll have
a plenty of time to discuss that with him.
Speaker 2 (01:11:56):
I can't wait for tomorrow. Yeah, I can't wait.
Speaker 9 (01:11:58):
He was on our show a week could go and
have not yet been able to spend any time in
studio with MJ in the midday. So got a big
old round table happening tomorrow starting at nine o'clock, and
I can't wait to get there.
Speaker 2 (01:12:10):
Excited for it, man, excited to see you in person.
Speaker 1 (01:12:13):
Buck can't wait all gang. Yeah, yeah, I see it.
I see Chris, I see you every day, well most days,
I see you, so I you know, for me, the
excitement level isn't quite as much.
Speaker 2 (01:12:22):
I have that show.
Speaker 1 (01:12:22):
I have that show where I see it kind of everybody.
Speaker 2 (01:12:24):
You know, it's backtrack. I'm not excited to see you whatsoever.
Speaker 1 (01:12:27):
I didn't think so not.
Speaker 2 (01:12:28):
In fact, hope I don't see your dumb ass tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (01:12:30):
No, you'll see me. I'm required to required attendance tomorrow.
My friend Dad ill.
Speaker 2 (01:12:35):
Looking forward to it.
Speaker 9 (01:12:36):
Man, it's been a long time since we've done this
in studio, so uh, I can't wait for tomorrow morning.
Speaker 2 (01:12:40):
At nine o'clock, MJ.
Speaker 1 (01:12:42):
MJ in the midday was asking me the last time,
and I can't remember.
Speaker 9 (01:12:46):
It's like been oh god, I think we did a
round table on our show maybe a couple of years
ago on the Mariners when Chuck and Buck came down,
you came down. But yeah, it's been a while, been
a while since all of us have broken bread together.
So nine o'clock, if we're gonna our asses out, of
bed and fight traffic to get to the studio.
Speaker 2 (01:13:03):
The most you can do, the least you can do
is at least tune in, for God's.
Speaker 1 (01:13:06):
Sake, that's all we ask. Just tune in.
Speaker 2 (01:13:07):
People, Just tune in to send money and alcohol to
the station. Yeah, that's it.
Speaker 1 (01:13:12):
That's a good call. That's a good call.
Speaker 2 (01:13:13):
You fired up for Thursday night?
Speaker 1 (01:13:16):
Uh cracking in Edmonton.
Speaker 2 (01:13:17):
You know what you had to think about it for
a second, didn't you?
Speaker 1 (01:13:20):
Was can we get a hockey game Thursday? So yeah,
you know what for the first first games of the
Sweet sixteen? Absolute man? What cracking hockey? Sweet sixteen basketball?
Speaker 5 (01:13:33):
Oh?
Speaker 9 (01:13:33):
We got opening days against Sacramento on Thursday night at
T Mobile Park.
Speaker 1 (01:13:38):
What the hell are we supposed to call them?
Speaker 2 (01:13:41):
I'm gonna call him Oakland. I'll call him whatever I want.
I'll call them the a's, the Oakland a's.
Speaker 1 (01:13:45):
I'm looking here on the scores.
Speaker 9 (01:13:50):
Okay, that's a lot of websites aren't even referring to
them as Sacramento or Oakland.
Speaker 5 (01:13:55):
You know.
Speaker 9 (01:13:55):
The thing is I wonder like, for example, you know
Angie and Gang on on Thursday Night, Goldie, you know
Riz Gary Hills on the job now as well, Ryan
Rowland Smith, I wonder how many of them on the
TV broadcast and how many other announcers around baseball, well
just continue to refer to them as the oak of A's.
Speaker 1 (01:14:14):
Well the hell, how long? I mean, we still refer
to the Chargers of San Diego, don't we.
Speaker 2 (01:14:18):
That's because we're just making a mistake though, because we're stupid.
Speaker 1 (01:14:20):
Well but even still, like the weird thing is, it's
like they're in Sacramento, but they're the A's and they
may move to Vegas, although there seems to be a
feeling they may not move to Vegas.
Speaker 9 (01:14:29):
Right so, well, ESPN dot com, if you go to
ESPN dot com on their standings page, yes, I think
it's still technically a Major League Baseball partner. They've got
the A's just listed as the Athletics with no city next.
Speaker 2 (01:14:42):
To him whatsoever.
Speaker 1 (01:14:43):
I hated nothing.
Speaker 9 (01:14:44):
If you go to MLB dot com, same thing right now,
you have no Sacramento, no nothing, So they won't even
give Sacramento the time of day.
Speaker 2 (01:14:53):
Is Kevin Johnson still the mayor by the way in Sacramento?
Is he still there?
Speaker 1 (01:14:56):
By the way, I think he's out. Didn't you have
some issues, didn't you.
Speaker 2 (01:14:58):
Have some issues?
Speaker 1 (01:14:59):
Or no issues? I don't know. At the official website,
just as athletics are right.
Speaker 2 (01:15:04):
There, you go.
Speaker 9 (01:15:05):
I don't want you to know they're playing in a
minor league baseball stadium. Although, tell you what the Mariners do?
Go down there? Yes, to play the A's in Sacramento.
That'd be a pretty fun little road trip, huh, go
see the Mariners playing? Well, No, just just to go
see a major league game in a minor league ballpark.
Are you drive into San Francisco? You're like, what an
hour and a half away from Scholemans. Go get yourself
(01:15:25):
some seafood.
Speaker 1 (01:15:26):
That's that's I knew there was a there was another
agenda there for you.
Speaker 4 (01:15:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:15:30):
Actually, isn't Harding Park a public golf course?
Speaker 9 (01:15:32):
Go play Harding Park where they had the PGA championship
back in the day, right.
Speaker 1 (01:15:35):
I think you just want to go see what's your
buddies name down that it does radio that you used
to bust his chops all the time. What's that Sacramento? Yeah, Dave, Yeah,
you just want to go down to see him, don't you.
What was that guy's name, Dave Carmichael?
Speaker 2 (01:15:48):
Carmichael Dave.
Speaker 9 (01:15:48):
Yeah, from Carmichael, California, Carmichael Day. Did you know that
Hayley van Lyft played for she with Texas Tech though.
Speaker 2 (01:15:59):
TCU. I think it's like our nineteen she've been on.
Speaker 1 (01:16:01):
Well, Nakelmes will be on four and four years.
Speaker 9 (01:16:03):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (01:16:04):
I started crying at the podium yesterday. Well, her time
in TC was really important to her.
Speaker 2 (01:16:08):
I had no idea she was even there a random
top of copy.
Speaker 1 (01:16:13):
No, it's I do chuck with all of Oh, you
know it's so hard, you know, leaveing these feel it's
your four school four years? Like, shut up, stop it.
Speaker 9 (01:16:20):
How about the guy? How about what Derek Queen said
yesterday about Kevin Willard. Did you hear that about why
why he plays for Willard?
Speaker 2 (01:16:27):
You say, well he paid me?
Speaker 1 (01:16:28):
Well, yeah, thanks tips, We all thought.
Speaker 6 (01:16:34):
For you.
Speaker 1 (01:16:34):
All right. What are you doing today?
Speaker 9 (01:16:36):
Well, let's see Millon's back a little more and four
with you at four o'clock today. We'll talk about some
of these, uh kind of lesser known quarterbacks of the
draft that could be had on maybe Day two or
Day three by the Seahawks. And then Mike de Corsi
Sporting News, Big ten Network talking college hoops at five,
we'll do a little You make the call at six,
and we're here at the Ameral Queen Casino un till seven.
Speaker 2 (01:16:57):
So so we gone by.
Speaker 1 (01:17:00):
All MJ and get some betting tips for the space
again my friend.
Speaker 2 (01:17:02):
And then nine o'clock tomorrow, tune your asses in. We'll
be on the air together.
Speaker 1 (01:17:06):
That sounds like a threat.
Speaker 2 (01:17:08):
It is a threat to see you, your ass.
Speaker 9 (01:17:09):
You gon to tune in, see you for the mild
mannered and marginally objectionable Inverness.
Speaker 1 (01:17:15):
This is paddle day, saying so long everyone,
