July of 2024 marked the month our world was shattered. Our hero (dad) was diagnosed with Glioblastoma, a grade IV brain cancer. Our therapists told us to write down our feelings, but we got bored of that, so now we've decided to live out loud. Tune in (or don't) as we talk about life, death, family, love, things that matter and things that don't, all while constantly trying to find the funny moments in our struggle to play the hand we've been dealt. At its best, we hope this helps someone else who's hurting; at its worst, at least it's helping us.
In this un-editided episode, we dig deeper into the notion of coping: how coping is defined and categorized, what coping looks like for us at this stage, and how effective (or ineffective) our various mechanisms have been.
Our patriarch, main character, and specialist guest makes his season 2 debut. Tune in for a bit of our dad’s candid pov on the summer, current status, and making the most of everything we’ve got.
Kicking off another season of Not Us with summer updates, stable scans (!), and more of your regular scheduled yapping. We took a hiatus, but realized we missed having these conversations with ourselves and sharing them with all of you. We’re happy to be back, and as always, appreciate the outpouring of support.
A few things have changed since we recorded this, and we’ll be back with a new update in our next episode, but this episode gives you another glance into the life of our mom, the primary care giver. Where the three of us get to “escape” to a version of regular life when we leave Boston, our mom is living this experience real time, every day. We are so in awe of her and always love to hear her perspective on everything from being an...
Return of the middle sister aka editor aka LA girly! In this episode we’re reunited back in Boston. We discuss our dad’s recent surgery, the positives and negatives of distance, and how lucky we are to have each other.
Return of the middle sister aka editor aka LA girly! In this episode we’re reunited back in Boston. We discuss our dad’s recent surgery, the positives and negatives of distance, and how lucky we are to have each other.
We are back with another episode, this time discussing the nuances of our family dynamics and individual relationships with our mom, our dad, and each other. We break down the moments of realizing our parents were not invincible super humans, and dissect the challenges (and rewards) of showing up for them like they’ve showed up for us for the past 30+ years.
Despite how hard the past year has been, we are eternally grateful fo...
Annnnd we’re back with another episode! This time we dive into all things advocacy around brain cancer. We highlight the incredible things our superhuman mom is doing as an advocate and caretaker, and we touch on other outlets for fundraising, advocating, and getting more involved in the brain cancer community and fight.
In this week’s episode, we play a game created by the man himself: is it brain cancer, or is it just Doug being Doug?
Off the coattails of a hilarious accident in an NYC hotel room, we discuss and dissect recent moments that leave us all wondering what is the underlying cause of odd behavior these days?
In this episode - a year since our dad’s initial accident - we reflect on what has for sure been our most challenging 365 days ever. We check in with one an other, check in on our minds and our bodies, and tangent… a lot. Looking back on this journey so far, it’s still difficult to process that any of this is happening. We are forever grateful for our family and friends, humor (both light and dark), the team that has been caring fo...
In this episode, we talk about the struggle of navigating and processing feelings — good, bad, and ugly.
Tune in as we discuss our tumultuous rollercoaster ride, while constantly reminding ourselves that nothing you’re feeling is wrong.
In this episode everyone's favorite guest joins us in a conversation about marijuana – the medical benefits, the recreational risks, and the recent breakthroughs in specific strains of marijuana used to supposedly help shrink tumors. Join us on a "high" risk "high" reward open and honest conversation.
Navigating terminal illness is difficult for everyone involved. In this episode, we bring on Emma’s husband Will. He shares insight into his perspective as not only a partner, but a true part of the Gladstone family and as both Doug’s son-in-law and friend.
A break in your regular scheduled programming… today’s “episode” is short, light, and for sure a little strange.
Enjoy our late-night speed date with each other because we forgot to record a serious episode.
On this episode, we bring back our favorite guy (by popular demand). Our Dad gives us an overall health update, adds insight into his new normal, and gives general thoughts on what helps and what hurts when it comes to friends and family reaching out.
This is the first of what we hope to be a series we’ll mix into our episodes: sitting down for “speed dating” questions with our Dad.
Some of the questions pertain to brain cancer, many are broad questions about life, and just as many are silly and meaningless — but still fun to hear his answers on them all. We invite you to listen to our laughter, and we apologize for the *really bad audio* during portions of this episode. We’re no...
In this episode, we unpack the notion of "pre-grieving"; what it is, our feelings and anxieties around it, and how we're working on trying to stay present while our minds constantly wander towards the unknown.
This episode formally introduces our middle sister, Lucy! All three Gladstone Girls band together to reminisce on childhood, dive into nuances surrounding mental health and birth order, and reflect on growing up together in an estrogen-filled household.
In this episode, we take things tropical - our Mom joins us in Turks and Caicos (please excuse the shitty audio, but please embrace our tans….)
Our mom’s incredible wisdom, perspective, and unwavering strength is highlighted in this little glimpse into her day to day life grappling with the diagnosis of her partner.
In this episode, we stray from the cancer conversation and dive into the specifics of our dad's life. We get a glimpse into his journey — what it was like growing up with his parents, meeting our mom, getting married to the love of his life, having children, becoming the best girl dad ever... all the steps he took that made him our oh-so-beloved father.
This episode shares life advice, important insights, and – as anticipated ...
