Speaker 1 (00:00):
Once up, guys, he's a girl.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
Alexandria Ikimoni in the studio iHeartRadio with Eddie Cali.
Speaker 1 (00:06):
Yay, how you doing today.
Speaker 3 (00:08):
I'm doing pretty good, doing pretty good.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Good good. I got the name perfectly, I didn't.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
You actually did do a really great job. I was
actually just about to say.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Thank you so much. Okay, tell me more about the
origin of the name.
Speaker 3 (00:19):
Okay, So it's a French origin, yes, of course. You know,
my dad's side is Creole and so you know that
whole New Orleans thing and everything like that is really
deep in my blood. And so yeah. Also I found
out apparently it would it became French after like some
Irish people had it and then migrated, and I don't know,
(00:41):
it's a whole you know, you know, you know how
we're all mixed up, right, you know. And yeah, I
found out that there's a lot more that I need
to learn, but that's what I know about it so far.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
I love it. I love it.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
So we have Creole in the family. But you are
from a Portland, Oregon I am, even though Atlanto you're
from Atlanta.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Yeah, but you're from Portland.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
So tell me more about the migration from Portland over
to Atlanta and now you're in La.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
So yeah, I've in large right now.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
I've been over here. I did the whole triangle situation,
you know, so pretty much my my I come from ministers,
you know, my dad, my mom, my grandparents, my uncle's aunts,
everybody like started in the church and grew up in
the church, and like actively has been in the church.
And so my dad actually got an offer to be
(01:30):
a musical director for a church down here in Georgia,
like when I was super young. And so we went
from Portland, packed up the studio, packed up the house,
and everything came down here. And then yeah, the rest
of the story like went from there, you know. And
then of course, you know, after living out here for
(01:51):
a while, I did some back and forth stuff between
here and Portland and all of that, and then I
was like, all right, y'all, pandemic hit. I'm out of here,
and I went to La.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
Never looked back.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
I never looked back. I love it.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
I love it.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
So for those who do not know, you are a singer,
a songwriter, musician, but also most recently on the newest
season of American Idol, Yes season twenty two, Season twenty
that aired earlier this year, which is exciting.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
So congratulations on that, by the way.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Thank you so much.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
Yes, tell me more about that experience.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
Oh wow, that was that was life changing, like to
say the least, like it was absolutely like and it
was life changing in ways that I didn't expect it
to be. You know, like everybody thinks, you know, you
go on one of these TV shows, you go on
American Idols something like that, and it's like, oh, yeah, cool,
now let's live life as a famous person. What you
(02:45):
don't expect is that you get in there and then
you meet all of these other people from around the
world that are so talented and have like you know,
might have like minded things going on, they have common
experiences and stuff like that. Also, and saying this a lot,
and I'll say it again, American Idol has a type.
They know, they know the type of people that they
(03:06):
that they're looking for, and so you know, they find
us and they're like, Okay, you guys have stuff going on.
Let's throw you in the room together for a week
and see you figure it out. And yeah, and now
I have some people in my life that will be
in it for the rest of it. It's pretty great.
I love it.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
I love that you found some lifelong connections and friendships
in there. But I have to ask, I get deeper,
what is the American idol type?
Speaker 3 (03:32):
What that? Gosh? So okay, all right, so okay, it's television, right,
so of course television, but it's unscripted television. So pretty
much because of that, you got like reality TV shows
and all that other stuff like that, and and they
need a story, they need something to pull from. And
that's understandable, you know. I mean, Hollywood is Hollywood, and
(03:54):
so sometimes Hollywood does Hollywood things. And if you know
what that means, you know, But if you don't know,
just imagine what your conspiracy theorist friend would say and
dial it down about like maybe ten notches and then
you're in there. But the thing about it is, you know,
because of that, they're looking for people who already have stories.
(04:15):
They don't want to create something. And so like you know, I,
for for instance, had a really interesting and tough few years.
You know, lost my mom, lost my brother, uh, traveled
around the country, did my first tour, and all this
other stuff like that amidst like you know, pressing through grief,
and so that made sense like, oh, hey, have him
(04:36):
talk about you know, what he has going on. Yeah,
and then you know, family lineage and all that other
stuff like that. And then a lot of people in there,
you know, had all experienced loss, experienced like great success
and great falls or you know all that, and we're
pressing through all of it, you know, through the hardships
and so yeah, yeah, they know what they're looking for.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
Yeah, to know more information about that. But also so
you know, our thoughts and condolences and prayers for you,
because it's not easy to lose family members.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
So do you want to put that out there for you.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
Yeah, But on a lighter note, tell me more about
your favorite part of being a part of the show.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
My favorite part. Okay, so there are my favorite parts,
like for me as a person like me, the one
that's walking around and living life experience, and then there's
me as the artist. Yeah, so as the artist. I
think one of the most affirming experiences was hearing Lionel
Richie say after I performed my own original song getting
(05:38):
prepared to do it for national television, he looked at
me and said, you're gonna sell out stadiums, And I
was like, maybe I.
Speaker 1 (05:46):
Will, Yes, you will.
Speaker 3 (05:48):
I think that's what I'm gonna do. Yeah, So you
know that literally that was all I needed. And then
you know, I walked out with the icing on the cake,
a golden ticket, yeah, and a trip to Hollywood that
I already lived in but still you know, it was
down the street. But then also, I think one of
the moments that really shifted just my journey as a
(06:09):
person was being in that room full of people who
were all like progressing through stuff and then like healing together.
They had us in rooms and lobbies and all this stuff.
I won't go into too much detail so I don't
get sued, but they had us in these spaces for
like extended periods of time, for like you know, like
(06:31):
a week at a time, pretty much just getting everything
together for the show. And that time together we got
a chance to really discover who we were as artists,
as people and discover what it looks like to be
able to be that and be what we were preparing
to be, like the American Idol. Yeah, you know. Yeah,
(06:51):
and so yeah, that was that was life changing. That
was beautiful, and that was amazing.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
Yes, I'm happy able to do that discovery and really
just go through I guess the seasons during that one
season intended, Yeah, but to get to this point.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
So I love that.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
So I mean you've been like kind of hinting at it.
So I do want to have like a quick conversation.
What is one thing you did not like about the
show or doing this show?
Speaker 3 (07:15):
Okay, that's interesting because I hadn't thought about that.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
Yeah, because I'm hearing like Hollywood is Hollywood. They put
us on.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
Way so and it you know, Okay, first of all,
American Idol lawyers, if you're watching this, I love you guys.
You guys got me through a whole lot and we're
here together, and trust me, you can you can trust
me with things. Okay, Disney, don't don't kill me. But
like it's like they're not like everything they they dig,
(07:44):
they really dig. And I have this really bad thing.
Well I'm not going to call it bad. I'm not
going to call it because mental health is important and
it is you know, the things that we do in
results of of you know, our traumas and things like that.
You know, that's that's part of who we are and
you know, some things we have to work through. But
I have a thing where when I get really uncomfortable,
(08:04):
I start just cracking the weirdest jokes, like the crazy,
like I will go I will completely shift left. And
so there were a couple of moments where, you know,
they were digging on some stuff and I don't know
if I was ready to dive in on that, and
so I started making the weirdest jokes like I could
think of, not even intentionally, it just started happening and
(08:26):
just started rolling off the tongue and it turned into
a whole like comedy special and everybody was laughing. But like, also,
you know, I don't know that might have contributed to
some things.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
But yeah, hey, hey, hey, like I said to the lawyers,
we love you guys.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
Cool, but I get it.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
And that's a fair experience. That's a fair experience. So
thanks for sharing more about that. But also let's talk
about have you share more about your latest single. It's
called Believe, great single, tell me more about it and
really the inspiration honestly behind that song.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
Okay, So the thing that I love about this song
is that after I left that room, you know pretty much,
Lionel said, you're selling out stadiums. Katie was like, where
can I listen? To your music. Luc was like, why
aren't you already signed? And I'm like, you know what,
what if I go out here and like just really
go at it, go hard with it, And then like
in that time being around American Idol, just the sound
(09:20):
that I heard, the styles of the music, everything, like
I kind of pulled from that and how that made
me feel and created the sound of something that I
felt would work in a situation like that, something that
could play in a stadium. You know. Not only that,
but I pulled from some life experience, Like in the
second verse, I say, I told my dad all about
(09:42):
you today, and I think he's a little excited for
the first time he remembered somebody's name because I think
he could tell how inspired you made me. And you
know that came from a real conversation, like you can
ask some of my friends. I told him. I was like,
so I just got off the phone with my dad
and he remembered somebody's name. This is weird, but like, yeah,
it's inspired by that. It's inspired by you know, the
(10:02):
just finding yourself able to believe in love and to
believe in connection again, even through the hardshipt through the hurt,
through the pain and through like a broken heart, realizing
that a broken heart can be mended again, you know,
like that's something that a lot of people don't even
think is possible, but it is. And so that's what
that's the pretty much where that song came from and
(10:25):
what that song represents. And so it's been interesting to
see what has been doing since it's been out there.
You know, like one of the things about making music
and putting it out there, especially when you're making it
initially for yourself and to get through whatever you have
going on. Once you put it out there, it's no
longer you, it's no longer about you. It's for the
(10:47):
people that experience it. And so hearing the experiences and
the way that people have been like applying it to
their lives and everything has been wild. Like I actually
there was a kid, and this is how you know
your music is doing something like a young a young
kid came and sang my song to me, like the
full thing with all the runs and everything and reflections.
(11:08):
Then he did backflips.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
I'm like, yo, what is happening right now? Trying to
show you the best that he got.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
Yeah, it was pretty amazing.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
Yeah, and I love the song because it's like you
talking about about love and it commended and honestly, I
wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't ask, is
there a certain.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
Lady in your life like we have going on?
Speaker 3 (11:28):
Here? There it goes. There's a dangerous questions I have
to ask, you know. I'm okay, so I'm not gonna
say too much, Okay, All I will say is that
I'm really, really, really glad that I got the song
out of it, because I haven't heard from her a month. Yeah, yeah,
having there right?
Speaker 1 (11:46):
Why did she go?
Speaker 3 (11:47):
I don't know. Maybe it might have been like the
part where I was like, hey, I wrote a song
about you, and then I sent it to the record
label to be released, and this is what the song
sounds like. And I talked about how I believe in
love and how I believe that, you know, we could
make things happen for the rest of our lives. So
(12:09):
you know, how's the second date sounding?
Speaker 2 (12:11):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (12:12):
Second day?
Speaker 3 (12:17):
I might have maybe had something to do with it.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
Listen, you got your feelings out there, you put it
all out there.
Speaker 1 (12:23):
It's her loss, I'm assuming.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
You know, honestly, and I feel like she's probably she's
probably doing all right, it's very, very very yes, she'll
be fine.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
That's fine.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
Another one's coming with another single that you're right about
that one, and then we'll move forward.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
You know, I know, you get the pen moving and
things happen.
Speaker 1 (12:40):
I love it. I love it.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
So speaking of pen Moving album, I mean, we just
released this one. You had a project come out.
Speaker 1 (12:46):
In twenty twenty, then twenty twenty two, so what are
we doing now it's two years later? Are we getting
the album or.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
It's funny that you notice that pattern, because I guess
that's a thing for me.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
Every two years.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
Every two years is a thing. So I guess I
might have an album coming out.
Speaker 1 (13:04):
Everything all winter, give me a month.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
Well, okay, so here's what I'm doing. I'm trying to
be more patient. Yeah, really, because twenty twenty two, I
was like, I got a whole bunch of music. I'm
just gonna put it all out. And then I did that,
and I put it all on the schedule, and then
that was also around the time my mom passed, and
so like literally my mom passed and then like the
next day it was like new album out, Da da
da da da da da, And I had already put
(13:28):
the all of the materials together, like the promotional materials,
and so here's this like video and all these videos
in these posts and all this stuff like yay, new music,
and I'm like, I just want to be inside right now.
But like, you know, the thing is, I dropped so
much music that year. This year, I'm trying to kind
(13:52):
of like, you know, like I'm gonna give each one
life the life that it deserves, you know, like Believe
is gonna have it. I have another single that's coming soon,
and I might drop another one after that, and of
course visuals to go with it, remixes and all that stuff,
and then I'll just drop a whole thing. Yeah, I
don't know when yet.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
Okay, that's fine, take your time. So this next single,
number two, when can we expect that one? What is
that about? I mean it's some kind of detail on that.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (14:21):
Okay, So so this next single I'm really excited about
because actually, funny enough, this next single is the song
that I sang during Hollywood Week at American Idol. I
love it, yeah, and it's it's a song also similar
to you know, to Believe in where it's talking about love,
(14:42):
it's talking about finding that belief in love with the
with with somebody, but it's about falling in love with
the person that inspires you. And sometimes sometimes that can happen,
especially for us as artists. Yeah, you know, like we
can find somebody who's our muse and we're like, oh
my gosh, like I'm so inspired when I'm around you.
(15:04):
I just want to write, I want to do this,
I want to sing, I want to play and all that.
Does this mean that you're for me? And that's probably
why I wrote a song and sent it over with
the whole list of lyrics and said I told my
dad about you. Yeah, no, definitely it's one of those.
And also one thing I'm really excited about. I'm excited
(15:27):
to hear like the run challenges and stuff that happened
after this because I did a few little little Diddley
dudes in the on there, so you know.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
Yeah, that's exciting. So we can't wait for that to
come out.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
So for those who are listening and watching, how can
they follow you to make sure they keep updated and
get those singles and get all the updates.
Speaker 3 (15:45):
You can find me everywhere. It's Eddie Klier spelled E.
D I C. A l l I e R. On
Apple Music it's e d I c A l l
I e R. On iHeart Radio, it is c A
l l I e R. Get it in your mind
and tell everybody about it, because I want to be
(16:07):
traveling this world and changing it for the better, and
so I need everybody to know who who who this
guy is?
Speaker 1 (16:14):
Yes, yes, one hundred percent. I love how you did it.
It's like a little song like you'll really get imprinted
in your mind. That's perfectly perfect.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
And before we get on out of how to get
on out of here? We can't even speak anymore if
I have letters in my head, ed I, it's fine,
tell me what you know, what is to come and
what's left coming up before we get on out of here,
I mean, any last words you want to leave with
the people?
Speaker 3 (16:37):
Uh so okay, So stream my single and buy my
single if you'd like to do that, and tell people
about the single, and then get all of the other
ones that come after that, Like I really, I'm serious.
I want to I want to see a crowd of
like hundreds of thousands of people shall made me believe
like I really want to make that a thing. And
(16:58):
then yeah, new single coming up. Uh, stay tuned for
shows and things like that. Stay tuned on my Instagram
and on TikTok. I'm tiktoking now and it's it's so interesting,
like figuring out that landscape. But most of all, you know,
go out and and make the world a better place
a little by little, and you know, tell the people
(17:19):
that you love that you love them while they're still
here to be able to hear it. I love that.
Speaker 1 (17:23):
That was beautiful and powerful.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
Last words once again, Alexandria Caimoni in the studio with
Eddie Callier
