Speaker 1 (00:00):
What's up, guys. It's your girl, Alexandria Ikamoni in the
studio with Karen Moore. How you doing today?
Speaker 2 (00:06):
It's fantastic. How are you.
Speaker 1 (00:07):
I am doing well. Just want to put it out there.
We're giving presidential right now.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Try Yeah you can.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
Oh my god, the look is the look, by the way,
I really do love it. So excited to have you
in studio, so happy to be here. Yes, absolutely, And
we're here to talk about all things Kerin but also
Tyler Perry's The Oval and be Et. We know that
season six is going on right now and you play
the infamous first Lady Victoria Franklin. Can I be honest
(00:34):
with you really quick? Sure? That first season, I was like,
I don't know if I'm gonna like this one. Listen
from the beginning. I'm like, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
I have a photographed I wish I had it available
to pull up right now. Yeah, quickly of the first
time myself Ed Quinn who plays Hunter and Daniel Croy. Yeah,
we were doing a tour for the show and it
was our first time seeing the initial the opening scene
(01:02):
for the show, and it was like, I hear no evil,
see no evil speak no evil type thing. We were
just like, yeah, people are people. People are not going
to receive this.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
But you play your character so well though, thank you. Yes, yes,
so I get it. But you know, somebody has to
be quote unquote the villain or the one who tests
the water just a little bit as a little spice
of the show. So we get it, we understand, might
as well be me, might as well. Oh yes, I
love that energy one hundred percent. So let's really talk
about it. Did you expect the type of response that
the show got that it really is getting six seasons later.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Absolutely not. Yeah, and not because of well, I think
because I didn't fully understand or appreciate Tyler's audience. Yes,
target audience. Once I got that, you know, and that
settled with me, I kind of understood the world I
(01:57):
was in, and I'm just like, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah,
this is the this is gonna work. Yes, But I
wasn't expecting for people to receive Victoria so well.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
Of course, of course, because she was or is so
delicious delicious, Oh my goodness, I love the word choice.
But I want to ask you more like, how would
you really describe her in your opinion? Not the public's opinion,
not Tyler Perry's opinion. In your opinion, other than delicious,
(02:27):
how would you describe your character?
Speaker 2 (02:29):
I would describe Victoria as being ambitious, misunderstood, bright. I
think she is codniving, but only because she wants what
she wants, how she wants it, and when she wants it,
(02:50):
so you know, she'll do what she needs to do
to get what she wants. And she's a fashionissa. Have
you seen that?
Speaker 1 (02:58):
Hello, The character and the person in real life fashions,
so one hundred percent we see that. We definitely see that,
and I can appreciate those word choices that you use. Honestly,
really does describe her well. But you have been along
this ride for years? How has it really been for
you being a part of the Tyler Perry Studios Creations productions? Really,
how have you been enjoying it?
Speaker 2 (03:20):
It's been a wild ride, yeah, because our first season
was just we were thrown into it, and I don't
think any of us really understood or appreciated what we
signed on for until we got all of our scripts right, right,
because the sides that we got, which are for you know,
those who don't know what sides are there there's just
short portions of the scripts that we used to audition with.
(03:46):
They did not give the full scope of you know,
the reality of the show, and so once we dug
dug into it, we were just like, oh okay, okay, okay.
So yeah, it's it's been an interesting ride. And I
think that our entire cast can say that we they
(04:10):
would concur that we feel that we are woven into
the fabric of that studio. Yeah, there's definitely a sense
of feeling our ancestors there because we know that, you know,
historically it's Fort McPherson and slaves built a lot of
the original structures that are on the campus, and just
(04:33):
being there and it kind of coming full circle makes
us feel, you know, definitely a part of the plan.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Absolutely absolutely, which makes a lot of sense. And just
talking about it because you're like, oh oh oh, when
you got the full script, especially for your character, you
call it delicious. I call it, you know, villain just
a little bit. But how would you just like, how
do you like playing a character like this one?
Speaker 2 (04:59):
It's a lo lot of fun. Yeah, yes, I will
say that the first season it took some adjustment. Yeah,
I've never played a villain or an antagonist before, so
Tyler and I had to have several conversations. I'm just like,
oh my gosh, she's so mean. He's like, don't you
know better, don't judge it, don't judge it. And once
(05:20):
I settled into it, I began to have fun with it.
I don't know if anyone recalls, but the first season,
Victoria and her daughter Gail, you know, they had this
tumultuous She has the dumultual relationship.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
With everybody, but I remember the relationship between the two.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
It was nuts, right, And there was one particular scene
where Gail was asleep and Victoria comes in and throws
a bucket of water on her and she startles her awake.
I'm so glad we broke for lunch right after that
(06:00):
because I had a meltdown because I love it page
her plays Gail, and I genuinely love her and she's
a great actor. So her response to it was so
genuine it hurt my heart.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
That's real.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
I mean, yeah, it really did. It took me a
second to kind of recover from that. I'm just like,
oh my gosh, I heard her. But it also gave
me an appreciation for who Victoria is, and you know
I won't apologize for her because you know, we don't
apologize for our family members who behave whatever ways they
are who they are and sot.
Speaker 1 (06:43):
Right, Yeah, I love it. But let's talk about the season. Right,
we're in season six. What else can we expect from
this season? What spoilers or something can you tell us
about what's to come?
Speaker 2 (06:55):
Give me something? Oh, I don't know if I can
give you any spoilers, Okay, but I will say that
you might want to stay tuned. Okay. Yeah, there's going
to be a power shift. Dynamics are going to change,
a lot of secrets are going to be revealed. Okay,
and I think there are a lot of shockers.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
Yeah, you're going to ask with who, like, who's going
to shock us the most?
Speaker 2 (07:20):
Ooh, I think I think Hunter is going to shock
us the most season.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
Okay, Okay, I know you can't give me too much more.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
Yeah, you know, he just he just got a sea
legs this week's episode. So yeah, once he what he
does with that, I think the audience.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
Will be surprised absolutely. Okay, Okay, lots more to come
in this season. But I always have to ask the
next season, season seven. Where are we with that?
Speaker 2 (07:52):
I don't know if I'm at liberty to say.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
There are rumblings, okay, so yeah, I keep wait, no,
I need more than just that rumblings. Keep my ear
no no, no, no, no, with you with the show
in general, with other carots, it's the.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
I would say that it's it's okay to hold your breath, okay,
and it'll be worth it.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
I think she's good, by the way, guys, she's given
me on my toes right now. I absolutely love it.
So we'll wait for more details on that coming. I
don't know end this year, this month, the okay, okay, okay,
we'll just wait it out. We'll wait it out. But
let's talk about the relationship honestly, working with Tyler Perry,
how has that been from your perspective? Because you hear
(08:46):
other actors and actresses talk about their experiences, but I
would love to hear more about yours. Working directly with him,
It's it's been interesting.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
It's been tough, yeah, and fun m hm, and very challenging.
I've learned a lot about the behind the scenes of
the business. I've learned to be a lot more malleable
as an actor because we have scripts and sometimes we
(09:18):
adhere to exactly what's on the page, and sometimes he
throws ad lips at us, and he gives us. He
gives us some creative freedom to you know, explore the
characters ourselves and take some creative liberties. So yeah, and
and and and just his persona, like, I don't know,
(09:38):
have you met him?
Speaker 1 (09:39):
I have not met him yet.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
Okay, so he is sick, he's like six seven, Yeah,
gentle giant, you know that you don't necessarily want to
poke too hard, okay, Okay, So like he'll show up
and you know, well it'll be all fun and gains.
And sometimes, you know, I tell Bubble time, he might
(10:01):
come in the morning and just be Medilla. And then
there are other times he's just like, all right, let's
get to work wet, you know, let's make the day,
you know kind of thing. Let's let's go. And yeah,
it's it's it's been challenging in that it's we shoot
the series very much like a stage play, shot completely
(10:24):
out of order, so we have to stay on our toes,
we have to have our choices made, and we only
typically get one shot. Yeah, we only get one opportunity
to perform it, so you know, we have to make
it count.
Speaker 1 (10:37):
Yeah, so what if you forget lines or I don't know,
something happens, you stumble, or like I don't like how
I did that, Like can we do that again, Let's
do it better? You get opportunities like that, we do.
We afforded that grace.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
Okay, Yeah, because because what's requested of us is he's
requested the impossible.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
And so yes, we do have a lot of support.
Speaker 2 (10:58):
We have readers who are one with us, who help
us run our lines before this, before the scenes, and
then you know, if we do need a line, we
can call for a line. I would venture to say
it's an editor's nightmare, but you know it works. You're human.
Speaker 1 (11:17):
Yeah, it works, right, absolutely, So I always had this question.
I'm happy I'm able to talk to you about this
because on our end, I do see sometimes they can
get compared to scandal, like do you see that? Like
what are you seeing? And what kind of response do
you want to give it to people when they just
automatically see one oval office and the next and just
want to put it together.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
It's not the same show, that's it. I mean, it
just isn't the same show. It's very much a soap opera,
I think even more than Scandal would have been considered
to be. And it is mostly about the upstairs downstairs
of the White House, so the the family that resides
(12:03):
in the White House, the first family, and the personnel
and our personal lives and they go home and they
have all sorts of things going on in their personal lives.
So it's just a very different show.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
Yeah, differcent, Okay, we'll take it. Will definitely take that.
So you have been in a role like this, but
also your resume expand I think it's two thousand and six,
so you've been in the game for a very long time.
So you played various roles. What would you like to
do next? Like, do you see a different role for
yourself or do you see a different type of I
don't know, genre, Like what would you like to do
(12:37):
as far as the.
Speaker 2 (12:38):
Future for you? Everything? Everything? You know. I'd love to
play an action role. Yes, maybe a superhero. Oh wait,
you know maybe.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
I've been seeing things about Miss Storm, like people are
wanting a miss Storm. Is that her name from Marvel
or DC one of the two?
Speaker 2 (12:56):
Something about that Storm? Did I was a part of
DC universe for a while as Doctor Chapel, and in
the original comics the original story, Doctor Chapel is Doctor Midnight,
so DC fans know.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
What that means. I'll catch up. But I love that. Okay,
so Superhero action movie comedy.
Speaker 2 (13:24):
See a lot of people don't know they see what
they see on the oval, and you know what, I
choose to know what we choose to put out on
social media. But I don't think anyone knows anyone else,
you know, authentically unless they've spent time with them, or
(13:45):
or that person has given much of their lives for
public consumption. I don't think I've done enough of that.
Because I liked to last. I loved a last. That's good.
I loved Yeah. I was just telling my makeup artist
of any that you know. At my house, we always
have someone over at our house. And on the side
(14:09):
of the house that is closest to the kitchen, just
on the outside of the house, I always hear laughter,
and I think, you know, joy lives here. It does,
and so we have fun. That's what you should be doing,
you know, yes, yes, And I am so grateful to
be surrounded by a wonderful cast we actually love each other,
(14:34):
We actually care about each other. You know, we we
like each other. We hang out together, some of us
do life together. And you know my friends I call
my family. I don't have friends. I have family. So yeah,
and we we have big fun, all the fun.
Speaker 1 (14:54):
That's good. Yeah, that's really good. Who would you say
is the closest person between your colleague? If you will that,
you are like, who is the closest person to you?
Who do you hang out with the most? Who you
talk to the most? Oh? Who do you laugh with
the most?
Speaker 2 (15:08):
Gosh, I have such a different relationships with everyone on
the cat and the cast and for different reason. Yeah,
people might find this surprising. I think I would say
Lodrick Collins, who plays Donald, the chief of staff on
the show. That's cool, he's the homie.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
Yeah I love that.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
Yeah, yeah, okay. And a lot of people don't know this,
but the young lady who plays Sharon Tisha Renee, we're
also good friends. I'm the godmother of her son. Oh wow,
that's beautiful.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
I actually did not know that. So that's cool. Okay,
So we know who were closest to who the relationships are.
Of course, we love everybody, family, we get it, but
you have the closest ones makes sense, Which makes sense.
You're talking about this earlier, saying that you know public
consumption what you put out there. There are things that
people just don't know. What are something that you really
want people to know about you that they might not
(16:03):
know at this point.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
That they might not know. Okay, I think people know
that I'm a mental health advocate. This is trivial. I
can't swim. I'd like to learn, but you can catch
me on a what do you call it? A sea doo?
(16:29):
What is it?
Speaker 1 (16:30):
Water? What is it?
Speaker 2 (16:32):
I don't know?
Speaker 1 (16:32):
Kayak called? Okay, Okay, I'll be.
Speaker 2 (16:39):
Like I know what I'm doing with a large jack
if you have a light jacket on. I mean because
why not? Oh yeah, I love to travel. I used
to be a makeup artist in her previous life. Else. Yeah,
(17:00):
and I'm an animal lover. Yes, I am a true
animal love. Okay.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
Do you own any pets right now?
Speaker 2 (17:05):
I do?
Speaker 1 (17:06):
Well?
Speaker 2 (17:06):
No, I parent a pet. Okay.
Speaker 1 (17:08):
Oh yes, I like that terminology because I'm a dog
mom and people don't take me seriously.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
Right, Okay, I get it. She is my baby, yes,
a dog. I'm assuming she's a dog kacka poo poo.
Speaker 1 (17:19):
Her name is never tit Ali. Yeah, that's a pretty name. Actually,
I actually love it. So we are getting to get
to know you just a little bit better, which I love.
Of course, you're playing a character on so many favorites
or so many's favorite show. But what is your favorite
show right now? Outside of the awful? Of course? But
give me a show that you are just loving at
the moment. Wow, there are a couple, Yes, give them
(17:42):
to me.
Speaker 2 (17:45):
The Bear what is I don't I don't even know
it's on U Okay, okay, if you haven't seen it, listen,
It's so good.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
It's so.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
Real. It just feels so authentic. Yeah, and you can
just connect with the characters almost immediately. Abbot Elementary. I
just got into abb Elementary.
Speaker 1 (18:11):
Question what as iconic? I don't care anybody says yes.
Speaker 2 (18:18):
Yes, yes, So I think those are two of my favorites.
Something else people probably don't know about me is that
I'm a science.
Speaker 1 (18:27):
And history key really yeah, so you.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
Can catch me on the History Channel or National Yeah,
any sign. I love that.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
I love that watcher for the both of us, because
I know I'm sticking more so to ABD elementary, but
we'll take it. Hey, hey, we love it. So twenty
twenty five, we're just getting started. What are your new
Year's resolutions? What are you wanting to accomplish and finish
and do this year.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
I don't make resolutions, that's fair. I said intentions, yes,
and so I intend to focus heavily on my production
company and getting our first production up and running in
the very near future. I intend to continue to pour
(19:12):
into other people's lives via mentoring. I really enjoy actor
mentoring and being more kind to myself so important. Yeah, yeah,
more self care.
Speaker 1 (19:29):
Definitely, Yes, we need self care. So what is your
favorite thing to do right now for self care?
Speaker 2 (19:35):
Aside from a really good nap, I'd say that's top tier.
You know, a bath with a nice glass of wine, candles,
and a book that's beautiful.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
That is a vibe. Yeah, I absolutely love that one.
You talk about the production companies, something's coming very soon.
What details can you share about that one?
Speaker 2 (19:58):
Not a whole lot, but I will say that I
think this is a project that will resonate with a
lot of people. The audience will be able to participate.
That's awesome and it's it's a new take on an
idea that we've seen before.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
Okay, okay, genre help me out trying to like make
it make sense of my head. I'm gonna pull whatever
I can pull out of your reality.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
But but in the best sense. Yes, you know. So
it's it's a reality show that we'll be intended to
lift people up.
Speaker 1 (20:43):
I love a good show. I just finished Love Island
by the way, Love Island USA, So I'm all for
like reality, good reality shows where you can get the
audience interaction in some way, shape or form. So we're
super excited about that. We'll put a pin in it.
I won't ask any more questions about it. We'll just
wait until it comes out. Any last word you like
to with the people.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
I would really like to thank our fans, the fans
of the Oval, who have rocked with us for six
seasons and it's only going to get better. There have
been some changes made, so I think I would really
encourage people to stay tuned and yeah, I love you
(21:24):
guys so much. I'm so grateful for you, and I
want everyone to ensure that they are taking good care
of themselves physically, emotionally, and mentally. So this year, make
that a priority and a focus.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
Absolutely powerful words, important things that people need to make
sure they focus on. And of course the fans love you.
Their fans love the show, they love what you bring
to the table. So super excited to continuously see how
it plays out this season. So so excited about that.
Once again, Alexandria Acamoni in the studio with Kiran Moore.
Excuse me, We're so happy to have you.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
I am so happy to be here and it's such
a pleasure. Me.
Speaker 1 (22:03):
Yes, absolutely, thank you, beautiful tea. Her skin, everybody, her
skin is skinning it. I keep talking about the outpha,
the blue, it makes the eyes pop, The pearls is giving.
Don't mess with me. I am her green is my
favorite color. Oh really, Oh my god. But the pink lipstick,
that shade is perfect, like you said, all day long.
(22:26):
Once again, Kare and Moore. Alexandra Gimoni in the studio.
iHeartRadio
