(00:35):
When you hear email marketing,do you immediately picture some
sketchy, congratulations, you'vewon a million dollars spam
email?
Or maybe you're thinking, uh,who even reads emails anymore?
I'm here to tell you that emaillists are not only alive and
well, but they're one of thesexiest things you can do for
your business.
Think about this, no algorithmchanges, no fighting for
(00:58):
visibility, just direct accessto the people who actually want
to hear from you.
I mean, they literally signed upto hear from you.
And today we're going to showyou how you can grow your email
list without being annoying, spammy, or begging people to
subscribe for updates.
Because let's be real, nobodywants spam.
I used to think email lists wereboring.
(01:19):
I mean, granted, I did sign upfor a couple email lists to get
discounts at my favorite stores, and I was convinced that social
media was the way to grow mybusiness.
But! I cut that out real fast, and I started an email list as
soon as I got my businesswebsite up.
And if you don't have a websiteyet, you can still have an email
list.
We'll talk about that in alittle bit.
So if you just keep postingconsistently, people are not
(01:44):
going to magically start buying.
Spoiler alert.
You don't own your audience onsocial media.
In a second, it can be takenaway.
We all know what happened withTikTok.
I mean, granted TikTok is back, but still things can be taken
away.
In a snap from us.
So having an email list is likehaving all of your customers,
(02:05):
people who actually want to hearfrom you, people who will
actually buy from you in yourcontacts, basically.
Okay, so let's get down tobusiness.
I want to share with you fivesteps on Helping you get your
email list all set up.
Okay, so one I am NOT sponsoredby any of the I'm not sponsored
(02:28):
by any of the programs orsoftware I talked about today,
but let me just throw out somethat I am aware of so When it
comes to email list I use theemail that comes with my
Shopify.
However, there is things likekit It used to be convert kit.
I think it's now just kit.
There is MailChimp I had thecompany I work for they use
(02:49):
MailChimp to send out emails.
So there are some free optionsout there that You can use while
you're still growing your listand then obviously as your list
expands and gets more contactsThat's when you start moving
into the paid subscriptions ButI want you to do your research
again.
There's no affiliate links.
(03:10):
There's no sponsorships.
Those are just ones I know ofOkay, so let's talk about steps
Step one is I want you to givepeople a reason to join Like I
said, I joined so many storeones because I was getting a
discount and that's how they getyou.
They're like, do you want tosign up for our email list and
get 10 percent off or that?
(03:30):
No one is signing just to getupdates, okay?
The audience needs a reason.
Think about what your idealcustomer actually wants.
They got me, I wanted a discountcode, a freebie, an exclusive.
Sign me up.
That's, that's how they got me.
So, make it irresistible.
Instead of saying, join my emaillist, I want you to say
(03:50):
something along, Grab my freeinsert item here.
Checklist, guide, template,discount code.
One of the most effective waysthat I've seen people get onto
my email list is I offer a freecoupon, the most popular one is
the buy one get one free when itcomes to your custom printing,
whether that's with yourbusiness cards or your stickers.
(04:11):
So, people sign up.
During that time and then getthat coupon and they're able to
use that towards their purchaseand I see a lot of people sign
up and get onto my list Peoplewant value people want a good
deal.
So take that into considerationWhen trying to get people to
join your list I'm not sayinggive massive discounts every
(04:33):
single time you want someone tojoin your list But you do need
to show them that they will getvalue from being on your list
Step 2.
Make signing up effortless.
If someone has to click throughmultiple pages and links, just
to get on your list, you'vealready lost them.
That's way too many steps.
I want you to keep it simple.
(04:53):
Name and email.
That's it.
And make sure your sign up linkis everywhere.
Your bio, your website, yoursocial posts, and even on your
email signature.
Okay?
Because you want it in so manyplaces.
I can tell you for my day jobwhen I was doing it with
MailChimp, we generated a QRcode so that it was easily
(05:15):
scanned, went straight to thelanding page, name, email,
enter.
That's basically it.
It's we kept it very simpleAccessible with smartphones.
If not, there was a Simple linkthat you can also follow it was
like this this this dot com, youknow, super simple So make it
(05:38):
effortless.
Step three actually send emailsBut not like a robot.
Remember, people signed up tohear from you.
They don't want to sign up andhear from AI.
Hitting send on that firstemail, I get it, does feel
terrifying.
But remember, your subscriberswant to hear from you.
(06:02):
They signed up to hear from you.
So you don't have to be superformal and write like a
corporate newsletter.
Talk to them as if you'retalking to a friend and share
stories, give them behind thescenes updates and let them in
on the things before the rest ofthe world.
No, remember people connect withpeople, not businesses.
So if it helps you when you'rewriting your emails, picture
(06:27):
that one friend, That you have, not your bestie, right?
Who knows all your inside jokes, cause you don't want to say
stuff that your audience is notgoing to understand, but think
of it as a friend.
Think of it as a pen pal, andwrite to that person cause it's
going to feel more personal.
It's going to have moreconnection with your audience.
(06:48):
Okay.
Step four, I want you to sellwithout being salesy.
I know.
Think about when you've gottenan email that was like final
sale, don't miss out.
And then you immediately deletedit.
Yeah.
I know.
Instead of bombarding peoplewith buy now, buy now, buy now
emails, focus on providing valuefirst, share tips, stories
(07:12):
behind the scenes, like I saidbefore, and then naturally
mention your offer.
Right?
Like, by the way, if you'restruggling with XYZ, I have ABC
that can help.
Check it out here.
It feels more natural to theconversation and not pushy.
Not in your face.
Okay?
(07:32):
Step 5.
Keep it consistent but notoverwhelming.
How often should you email?
More than never and less thanevery five minutes.
Aim, for once a week, that's agood start.
Or once every other week.
Just enough to stay top of mindwithout being annoying.
(07:52):
And remember, consistency buildstrust and you don't have to be
perfect.
You just need to show up.
So here's the thing, emailmarketing isn't dead, and it
definitely isn't boring.
It's the one place where youhave full control over your
audience, your message, and yoursales.
Like I said, social media candisappear in a blink, but your
(08:14):
email list Well, that's yours soif you've been sleeping on email
marketing, consider this yourwake up call.
