(00:00):
It's got to be a big deal. Motley's got new music. I've heard
this. They just signed with BigMachine Records and you got a brand new
single coming out. Uh, thisdoesn't sound like your average Motley song.
And it doesn't sound what Nikki saidit was going to sound like like a
cross between country and hip hop. It's far from that. Yeah, I
saw that. That's hilarious, butit doesn't sound like your average Motley song.
(00:25):
I mean, I guess it does, probably maybe the heavier stuff,
but then again, it's got thatanthemy chorus kind of vibe too. But
it's heavy. But it's new,so yeah, you know, like kind
of it's kind of hard to it'skind of hard to explain new music.
(00:47):
Yes, it's new, it's similar, but it's not it's new. I
mean, there's new blood, newright, new inspiration, new play.
You're gonna have some You're gonna havea lot of new vibe happening. So
the track we're going to play foryou here and just a few moments is
called Dogs of War, and thisis one of many I assume we had
(01:07):
one of three. In One ofthose tunes is a Beastie Boys cover,
Is that right? Or Is thatjust more bs? No, that that's
true. You guys are covering fightfor your right to party? Yeah,
dude, how did that decision cometo be? We were just in a
(01:27):
mood. It's funny because we weren'teven planning on covering that we were.
I can't remember what we were with, and all of a sudden, we're
like, why don't we try tofight for your rights like we were in
the recording sessions, And we justswitched gears and went, oh, no,
let's do this. This is funand we blew off. Forgive me
(01:49):
for not remembering what it was wewere actually going to, but we just
flipped it last minute and went, all right, let's do this. So,
having John in the band, likeyou said earlier, it's brought new
blood and that brings a new guitarsound, a new tone that must be
pretty exciting. You know. It'skind of like being with a new woman.
(02:12):
This is so true, dude,so true. Yeah. Yeah,
we spent we spend a lot ofextra a lot of extra time. I
guess that would be four play inthe studios. Yeah, yeah, something
you wouldn't do in a long marriage, I guess. So working with John,
(02:36):
I know, that Nicky has workedwith John in the past. He's
also, you know, done trackswith you. He did tracks on the
Dirt, Yeah, you know, and that's the last time we got any
new music from Motley. It's beenfive years. He does bring a new
life into the band. He lookslike he's a lot of fun. He
looks like he knows, he knowswhat the hell he's doing. We know
(02:58):
this about John five So it justwas be just tell me a little bit
about that experience, having that newblood in the band and hanging out and
going through all those rituals sort ofagain. I know you're older now,
but still Nicky and I have knownJohn for a long time. John's worked
on my solo records. He's donestuff thatly been having him, you know,
(03:20):
in the actual song writing process, and you know, not not a
live situation. It's a different,you know, a different animal. He's
so talented. That guy can literallyplay say play me like some bluegrass Beethoven
style and it's like the genre doesn'teven exist. And he's like, Okay,
(03:44):
you're like, what, dude,I was just kidding. His lead
on Dogs of War is smoking thereat the end. Oh my god,
I know yeah, And here's here'sthe deal. Bro. At the end
of the day, you could bethe most amazing guitar player on the planet
and I could care less. WhatI care about is the guy is the
(04:08):
sweetest man on the planet. Likehe's an absolute pleasure to be around.
He's inspiring, he's just a sweetperson, you know, and making music
with that it just spills over intowhat we're doing and it's sem amazing,
really amazing. Are you having fun? No, no, man, no
(04:32):
fun. We're having zero. AndBob is back in the studio helping you
guys out again. How's that reuniongoing. Bob Rock is producing this record
or already produced these singles? I'mnot sure. That's My next question is
if there's a full length coming. So I got ahead of myself. Tell
me about Bob first. It's alwaysa pleasure with him, man. He
(04:55):
since we first worked with him onthe Feel Good record, he became the
fifth member of the band. Likehe's one of those producers. We'd never
experienced anything like that where he actuallypulled up a stool out out in the
studio, strap on a guitar andand a mic, and he we would
(05:16):
go, We'd like, oh,let's try going to a here, or
let's let's try let's let's move thebridge over here like we He would just
he would. He got in thetrenches with us and we'd never experienced anything
like that, and we were like, whoa, this is really cool.
So again he did that in thesesessions and there we were, you know,
(05:42):
kind of reliving uh you know thatthat whole experience again, and it
just reminded us all of how whata cool team it is. You know
it was you know, he's he'snot that kind of producer that pops his
head and went in the in thestudio and goes, it's not quite there,
guys, I'll be back, youknow, like those kind of guys
(06:04):
don't work for us. John saidhe'd never worked with him before and it
was like a crazy great experience.Yeah, John enjoyed himself a ton.
So you got three songs, twooriginals and the Beastie Boys cover. Are
you going to go back in thissummer between dates and try to do more
music? Give? I know, the whole music industry has changed. Everybody
(06:28):
just releases singles sort of spoon feedsthe public and the fandom that way.
But are you guys ever going toput together a full length again? Or
is that just a pipe dream? That's a good question, you know.
I think we're sort of living inthe moment more these days, and I
don't know, to tell you thetruth, I don't know. It could
just we could be on a breakfrom these festivals this summer and somebody comes
(06:53):
up with a couple ideas and maybewe jump in the studio and do it.
So, I don't know. Well, it seems that it's hard to
get you know, heritage bands suchas yourself, their audience to accept new
music. You know, everybody goesto shows. You want to hear the
hits, play you know, thesongs of my youth, play the songs
you know that I want to hear. But you've got your and it seems
(07:15):
like you're probably doing the smart thingby just spoon feeding the fandom. Here's
the new song. What do youthink instead of, you know, doing
all full length and spending that moneyand time for something that may not be
what you want it to be.Yeah, man, it isn't not the
truth, you know. I thinkI think I think it's it's better that
way, because, yeah, you'reright, people want to hear the same
(07:41):
the same stuff or or something realsimilar or and that just that's just the
worst for the artists, you know. God, just imagine they kind of
make the same over and over, like as a person you start or an
artist start to wither man and slowlydie because you're like, well, I
(08:03):
guess this is what I do andthis is what they like, so let
me get at it. I appreciateour fans get you know, giving us
a chance to rip them out,you know, when when they're coming and
just here you go check it out, you know. So that's cool.
Well, you know this song, and you know, I'm supposed to be
helping you sell the record, andI didn't mean to take take you down
(08:26):
that road. But this song isdifferent. And I'm telling you people,
Motley Crue fans are gonna love it, and fans that aren't on the Motley
Crue bandwagon are gonna love it too. I mean, it's it's you know,
it's Motley because it's Vince. Youcan hear no, yeah, you
can hear Niggy's bass, and thatwhole rhythm section with Tommy and then John
five just adds this new life tothe band and it doesn't sound same old,
(08:50):
same old, and I, inmy opinion, that's a good thing.
It's still the crew, yes,but it doesn't sound like anything else
I've heard Motley do before. It'sexciting. You're gonna have a hit single
on rock radio again. Yeah, well, if that happens, that's that's
even a bonus. I'm just pumpedbecause, uh, you know, it's
(09:13):
we that that we all love andI I've played it for some friends who
would be maybe uh not so forgiving, and they were like, dude,
this is amazing. And I waslike, okay, we're good. It
does and that was my first reaction, and I was like, let me
(09:35):
hear it again to make sure thatwas you know, the reaction. Yeah,
what did I just say? That'sawesome. I'm super happy for you
guys, and uh, I'm lookingforward to seeing you on the road.
You can get your Motley tour infoin take a tour of the Cruisium,
which is pretty cool at Motley dotcom. You got all those old photos
(09:56):
from the past and some cool memorabiliaup there that people can take a look
at. Its very cool and forthe listeners. Video for Dogs of War
Dude is bananas like it's the first. Uh, I don't want to blow
it, just let people see it. But it's that is very different than
(10:18):
anything we've ever done for sure. What's the song about. It's it's kind
of like a warning label almost. It's like, you know, don't let
them take your crown. It's justit's just kind of a heads up about
the system and the world we livein, you know, like they can't
take you down, they can't takeyour crown like this, like stand up
(10:39):
from oh speak see notice act Likeit's you know awareness, you know consciousness.
The video in single Dogs of War, out on the twenty sixth of
this month. Will be playing ithere first new music in five years,
Dogs of War on the Greg StoneShow. Thanks Tommy Lee, everybody from
