(00:00):
Real good. How are you doing, my friend? I'm good. We've
got Stephen Pearcy from Rat on thephone. Last week, they released their
box at the Atlantic Years. Itcontains the first five records in Man,
what a time in your life thatmust have been. Yeah right, wow.
Me personally, I'm surprised that I'mstill here. But I'm here for

(00:22):
a reason, and maybe that's topresent the beginning and the end of this
era with Rat, Ratt and Rolls. Are you talking about ending things because
you're releasing this box at Well? No, I just don't think, you
know, I had taken the bandRat off the road. I don't see,

(00:46):
you know. Unfortunately I can't getthe remaining guys together. And the
more I think of it after thisbox that I maybe I student because I
cannot see miss representing the band, especially without Robin. We have been trying
to do that for years. Wegot away with it. That's what's special

(01:07):
about this box set. It's thefive original guys and it's the five records,
and anything after that to me doesnot hold the candle to anything we've
done without Robin Crosby, you know, right, So you know I was
such a drag, you know, because so many bands from that era have

(01:29):
gone on to have great touring success, you know, in the two thousands,
and that sucks. And sure, and they go out there, but
you got to understand, my friend, they go out there and and some
of these people knew audience and stuff, really don't even know they're the original
or or not the original guys.I cannot go out there and represent my

(01:53):
band RAT with only one other guyin the band, and then the audience
doesn't even recognize eyes them. Youknow. When I go out there solo,
I can present and represent my bandRAT the way it should be and
without the ego and conflicts and andthese other guys. You know, no

(02:15):
disrespect to these other players we've had, you know, like Carlos Cavazo,
uh and stuff, but it's justnot the same. And I don't like
to boat to be as people, you know, I really don't, you
know. And and and you know, it's forty years later, a lot
of these of the guys aren't evenaround anymore. God bless them rest in

(02:38):
peace. From these og bands likeLet's take Quiet Riot, you know what
I mean? Uh, you know, they're out there doing their thing,
but it's with one original guy,it's yeah. And and to me,
you know, I love Rudy orgreat friends, and he's probably thinking,
like me, he wants to keepthe I can see a live you know.

(03:00):
And and that's I know Rudy andI know that's what he's doing because
I've tried it. I've been there. I've tried it. But I can't
do it if somebody doesn't even recognizethe other dude in my band. You
know, well, let's let's canget away with the lot. I can
get away with a lot more too. Well, you're Stephen Pearcy, so

(03:23):
that guy. Hey, let's goback to those years real quick, and
let's talk about some of the standoutsin your career. You know, when
you look back on that, onthat period in your life with rat when
you guys were like the number oneband in the land, what stands out
the most? Well, you know, I do you know, we accomplished

(03:51):
what we set out to do.Robin and I. That's the first thing
that stands out to me is Ican look back and go, well,
at least we did what we wantedto do and we had success with it.
We just you know, what standsout there's a lot of great things.
You know. I have great memoriesand even to this day, I

(04:12):
have more fun now playing the rapmusic on my own than I did with
the group with Like I say, these these people who weren't even in the
band or had nothing to do withthe band, but they're just hired guys.
So I remember a lot. There'sa lot of good things. Man,
there's too many Madison Square gardens, you know, the Forum San Diego

(04:35):
Sports Arena, these festivals, andthen our records. You know, when
you first get your first goal torecord and it's like, holy man,
this is I made it. Youknow, we made it. You know,
well, Out of the Seller islike one of the greatest debut records
of all time. Thank you.And I'd like to think it, well,

(05:00):
well, well we'll stick around andyou know, represent the band as
we created it to be, youknow, this great entity. And I
would put our band up against anybodyin those days, you know. And
that's why I'm still out doing whatI do, because I have that mindset

(05:20):
and work ethic to you know, nothing's gonna stop me. You know.
Beside, besides that mindset and workethic, what do you think made the
band so successful? We stayed focusedfor the time. You know, when
we started, we were we wereserious. You know, we took our

(05:42):
music seriously. It just wasn't allyou know, funny games, even though
we were professionals at that Yeah youare. I've been a couple backstage parties
with Rat in the day. Yeahright, So but what made is you
know, and we knew we werewe were different, you know, we

(06:02):
we we weren't part of the scenethat we had to follow. You know,
I would have hated to be inthe one of the bands that had
to follow Rat, Motley, QuietRiot or anybody coming from the strip scene
who made it huge because we allhad to follow Van Halen. Let's let's

(06:24):
make let's let's be direct here.Van Halen started this whole sunset strip scene.
You know, I think Round andRound probably kicked the door open,
you know for that scene that nextgeneration after Van Halen, when when Round
and Round came out, that waslike the opening the door of the modern

(06:46):
sunset strip. I agree, Ican agree with you there. Yeah,
there was only a handful of usout there at that time that we're creating
that scene. A lot of bandstake credit for that, but it's BS
Man it's not true. You know, there were only so many of us
that were really involved with that.I mean, there were bands you don't

(07:10):
hear about. There was a bandcalled White Sister that did the same thing
as us back in the day, playing the same clubs over and over on
the strip, and you know, but it's you know, but you have
to have something different. And Motleyhad it, Quiet Riot had it,
Rat had it, and so beit, you know, down down the

(07:31):
line. So what sort of gemsdo you fans get when they purchase the
box set which is already out andyou can get that through official Stephen Pearcy
dot com by the way, that'sOfficial Stephen Pearcy dot com. So what
other gifts? What other gems arewe going to get with the box set?
Well, we're taking you through thedecade. You get picked from this

(07:57):
era, I mean from this tour. You get a sticker from from the
cellar, you get an invasion yourprivacy pass, wanted Man poster. What
else it's in there. I meanit's chopped full of good eas you know,
and it's great for the fan.You get all the good ease.
You get the first five records onvinyl, which is pretty cool. I

(08:18):
mean, Vinyls making a resurgence. It's kind of trippy though, to put
a rat record down on you know, a record player. I'm used to
shoving a CD in, But thatjust makes it all the more special,
doesn't it. Sure it does, because you know it was a process.
You know, you had to crackit open, make sure there's no dust

(08:41):
on it, right, and thenthrow it down, drop the needle and
go hey. So, if youhad an opportunity to go back in time,
and I'm sure you've been asked thisbefore, what would you change in
your career? Would you change anything? Yes? I would. I would
would change some of the business thatwent down. And I wouldn't have been

(09:05):
so giving with what I personally workedso hard at and giving it away because
I find out years later it wasjust, you know, totally disrespected unfortunately
by some you know, members ofthe of the group. And if Robin

(09:26):
was around now, like he'd bekicking some ass right now, you know,
not a happy camper. I knowhe's really happy about this box that
though that I couldn't say, butI would change some things in how I
approached the business and with who oh, yes, you learned quite a lot,
especially during the eighties. You know, it was all new to everybody.

(09:48):
I think it was all new tothe to the labels too. They
didn't know they this monster, theerror was going to go down. I
mean they were ecstatic. I'm sure, you know, going on this bank,
he's putting out platinum records. Youkeep him in there. You know,
I would have taken a break everynow and then. I mean,

(10:11):
that was part of our downfall,is not having a break and eventually going
to go cuckoo. You know,I know you released so much music over
a short period of time. Itwas pretty incredible. Really, hey,
real quick, I just want tosay thanks, Stephen, appreciate the time,
and how much do you miss Robinimmensely? My friend. He's here,

(10:31):
he's appreciative and he set a standardas I did together in creating this
beast Rat and Roman. You canget the box set, which is out
through Steven's official website. That's officialStephen Pearcy dot com. That's official Stephen
Pearcy dot com. Thanks a lot, Stephen, I appreciate the time.

(10:54):
You have a great day and we'llsee you out on the road somewhere.
Yes, sir, thank you somuch,
