Music is an integral part of most of our lives, as you can tell by the fact that you don’t care who sees you dancing when the grocery store jams hit hard. To hit all the right notes on this topic, Danielle and Cheryl sit down with guest Kennedy Elsey (of Boston's Mix 104.1 Karson & Kennedy morning show fame). When the three women were younger, reading liner notes to new records was an hours-long activity, as was waiting patiently for the DJ to stop talking so they could tape record their favorite songs. And who didn’t love all those happy yet completely nonsensical lyrics of the ‘80s? But the decade wasn’t all fun and games. Some unfortunate souls lived under the constant threat of Columbia House Records – this “one penny for 13 cassettes” promise often translated to a terrifying life time commitment that might go down on your permanent record. Danielle, Cheryl and Kennedy bring back memories of Sony Sport Walkman, Discman, and 10-CD Changers, and then finish up by sailing away with yacht rock.
About Kennedy Elsey:
As the girl half of Karson & Kennedy, you can hear Kennedy every weekday morning from 5:30-10am on Mix 104.1. She grew up in suburban Chicago and graduated from Drake University with a double major in Theater and Psychology. Her career brought her to Boston, by way of Tucson, AZ; Tallahassee, FL; and Memphis, TN. She lives with mental illness, including bipolar disorder, and uses her time behind a microphone to fight fiercely to stop the stigma that goes hand in hand with mental illness. She is proud to call the ‘80s her soundtrack, and Prince is her king.
