Spirit and honor Jesus Christ asour Lord and Savior who came and
died for our sins, you guys. Soit is such an honor to be here
(01:25):
and represent my Lord who haswho just continues to do
abundantly amazing things in mylife. And I'm just glad that I'm
able that He came to save me,and it's an honor to be here. I
know I keep saying that. Butit's really a pleasure to go
into the Bible and be ever toread it just so that I can
understand and see what God istrying to talk to me about. Now
(01:47):
the message may relate differentfor you. And so I just ask that
you open up your heart and yourears and let God speak to you
because of course, the messagewill be different unless we hear
the same thing. You know, I'msaying because it can happen

Christ is a pleasure of mine.
And I really appreciate Godbeing able to step into my life
(02:07):
and show me his miraculous worksand how he keep removing skills
from my eyes. I know he's doingit for other people around me.
And it's just such a pleasure tobe able to connect with people
on this level. So you guys todaywe are in our last week of our
series is actually of our 14weeks of being in the Old
(02:28):
Testament. And our episode fortoday is Amos four. So that's
Amos chapter four. And our titleis a prophet's stern morning.
Now morning, I have never divedinto the book of Amos. I've
never probably really even heardstories about Amos, unless
certain scriptures were we werebeing said in church through
(02:51):
preaching, but I've never gotthe opportunity to go into Amos.
So, to me, I'm excited to beable to read a miss. And as I
slightly went over it just a fewminutes ago, I'm very like,
intrigued to see how God isspeaking to me about amens,
because I know there's a placein life that I'm trying to get a
result in luxury, and I don'tever want to remove the luxury
(03:15):
of having God and Jesus Christinto my life with material
things. So let's dive into thebook of Amos. Grab your Bibles,
you can read out at any versionyou choose to I read out of the
NIV version, that's my businessbut I have a Bible guide here
that's guiding me through theBible and I'm so excited to say
that next week we'll be goingvisual and I am not prepared and
(03:35):
I'm not ready but I haven'twritten here and my Bible that I

(03:55):
will be going into becoming aChristian and we will be diving
into certain chapters eventhough we've already covered
them. I'm thinking aboutremoving the chapters that we've
already covered in I don't knowyet so just kind of work with me
so just grab your Bible okayjust get ready because we want
to go into the story chaptertoday is Amos chapter four in
our class let me get my stickynotes in front of me Okay, so we
(04:21):
are in last 42 last ones class42 You guys you ready? I am
ready to buy let's go AmishChapter Four is a real has not
return to God profit sternwarning is the title here this
word you cows of Bashan onmouths the Mariah you women who
(04:45):
oppressed the poor and crushedand needy and say to your
husband's bring us some drinksthe Sovereign LORD has sworn by
his holiness that time willsurely come When you will be
taken away with hooks the lastof you with fish hooks you will
each go straight out to breachesin the wall and you will be cast
(05:07):
out towards Harmon declares theLord. Go to Bethel insane go to
Gil Gao and sin yet more. Bringyour sacrifices every morning
you're tired every three yearsburn lemon bread as a thanks
offering and brag about yourfree will offerings boast about
them you Israelites for this iswhat you love to do, declares
(05:31):
the Sovereign Lord, I gave youempty stomachs in every city and
lack of bread in every town yetyou have not returned to me
declares the Lord. I alsowithheld rain from you when the
harvest was still three monthsaway. I sent rain on one town
but withheld it from another onefield had rain another had none
(05:51):
and dried up. People staggeredfrom town to town for water but
did not get enough to drink andyet you have not returned to me
declares the Lord. Many times Istruck your gardens and buying
yards destroying them withblight and mildew, locusts
devoured your fig and olivetrees you have not returned to
me declare the Lord, I standplace among you as I did to
(06:15):
Egypt. I killed your young manwith a sward along with your
captured horses. I filled yournostrils with the stitch of your
camps and yet you have notreturned to me declares the
Lord. I overthrew some of you asI overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah,
you were like a burning stickssnatch from the fire yet you
(06:36):
have not returned to me declaresthe Lord. Therefore, this is
what I will do to you is aroundand because I will do this to
you is a real prepared to meetyour God He who forms the
mountains who creates the windand who reveals his thoughts to
mankind who turns down todarkness and tread on the
(06:59):
heights of the earth. The LordGod Almighty is his name Vanessa
and of our chat. But let us goover some key points because
colonies women a cow in thebeginning I was just wrong. So
with the searing score andfullness Amos paints a picture
(07:21):
of women live in in sheerluxury. These cows thought only
of their pleasure not of theoppressed poor who made their
life of luxury possible. Amospaints their punishment just as
vividly the brutal assassinarmies who later captured Israel
and took his people into exileleft monuments portraying their
(07:44):
captors being dragged off withhooks in their mouth boom, the
submarine Lord has sworn by HisHoliness the time will surely
come when you will be taken awaywith hooks. The last of you with
fish hooks, that's a picture tosee chapter four verse six, Amos
was a street corner Prophet nowall of you guys know about them
(08:06):
street corner prophets we seeall the time. And sometimes we
confuse with standing on thestreet given the Word of God out
to people. Sometimes we confusethat with people wanting
attention. And we also confusethat with different verses of
the Bible where certain chapterswill say you know, don't stand
on a street corner to be seenbecause that is the pleasure
(08:26):
that you will that is the onlyreward that you will receive.
But in this case, Amos was astreet corner prophet and he was
not of a wealthy being but hewas a prophet who hear from the
Lord. So chapter four verse six,I gave you empty stomachs in
every city and lack of bread inevery town yet you have not
(08:47):
returned to me declare the Lord.
Although biblical prophetsreflect a wide spectrum of
social backgrounds andpersonality types. Modern day
cartoonists tend to depict asingle stereotype image in
truth, Amos fits thatstereotype. He is the kind of
Prophet who stands on streetcorners with a signboard and
(09:07):
rails against the wholemiserable world. Now we know
we've seen him okay, ironically,Amos appears on a scene when
Israel the northern kingdom isbooming. The government is
stable for change and people aretoo busy enjoying the good life
to listen to the rants of aprophet for precisely this
reason. Amos speaks in its Halexand exclamation points. Unlike
(09:30):
some of the other prophets, Amoscomes from the peasant Class A
migrant to Israel from the southhe speaks with a rural accent
and is probably the butt of manyjokes by the city sophisticates
a miss the peasant cannot getover the luxury he finds in
another city in the northerncities, gorgeous couches, beds
of carved ivory summer homes, top great meats and find why
(09:53):
Amon says that this extravaganceis built on a foundation of
injustice, which he decriespeople who consider themselves
properly religious can't waitfor the Sabbath to end in order
to dash back to work and cheatsomeone else load into security
by their strong army theIsraelites think themselves safe
for generations false security.
As Amos warns God's peoplecannot forever push God into a
(10:16):
small corner of their lives tobe brought out like a magic
charm whenever they need Him.
God is a lion, not a pet. Okay,in the Book of Amos, God roars
Israel prepared to meet yourGod. Verse 12, Amos shouts from
the street corners words whichhave about as much impact on his
(10:37):
day as they do in ours.
Nevertheless,the prophets warnings proved
true. In a remarkable shorttime, Israel falls apart a mere
30 years after Amis the northernkingdom of Israel cease to
exist. Amos is not a comfortablebook to read it messages hit too
close to our own time, whennation judge success by the size
(10:57):
of their gross national productin our military military forces.
For that reason alone, itdeserves a close. So the
question is, what parallels Doyou see between Amis time and
are time and I'm gonna answerthat and say, oh, I need to go
into Amos a little bit deeper, because this was my first time
(11:18):
reading the book of Amos andjust reading a chapter. So I
need to start from the verybeginning of chapter one, and
really read the book of Amos toreally understand the parallel
that you may have with that timein our time. But what I can't
say and what I do see is Iunderstand the prophets that
(11:39):
stand on street corners, I getthat I never ever was the type
to judge people who wanted todeclare God's words, because I
never knew what God was doing intheir lives to make them speak
about God the way they do. Okay?
Now, when I do come acrosspeople, when I meet them, just
so happens sometimes I don'tknow where I get to speaking
(11:59):
about God and talking about God.
And and for me, that's justlike, you know, God is just, he
just works. He's just amiraculous God. Right? So from
reading this chapter, the luxurythat Amos was witnessing in
Israel, it probably like shockedhim and blew him away. And he
just couldn't believe how yeteverybody was just in a luxury
state, and nobody ever yetreturned back to God. So God is
(12:20):
like, go send some more like towhat you do, because this is
what I love to do. And get youguys have never returned back to
me. I didn't match on Thursdayon a Kvr Sabbath item plus,
fathom, I did all of this tookbread from your mouths, and you
guys have never returned back tome. Now. That is what's
(12:42):
happening today. So I could seethe comparison and that no
matter what you may have, nomatter what you may see, you
know, people sometimes don'tfeel like God is the one in
control. But upon having aconversation today what it was
complete stranger, I realizedthat God is not that I just
realized that today. But I justrealized no matter what
(13:03):
background you come from, whether you Christian Catholic,
or whatever the case may be. AndI always say this, we all share
the same creator, it is soamazing to see when God people
actually could come togetherdespite of what society and the
world got going on. Now, I'venever been a big luxury girl
never been into super namebrands, even though I like nice
things. I really come frompoverty. So to see how Amos was
(13:26):
a peasant among the people thathe was trying to preach to like
it says in the Bible, he was thebutt of what he was actually he
was like the joke of the town, like probably people were
looking at him, like, Look atthis guy. He's crazy. He has
nothing and he's talking about aGod, you know what I mean? So it
reminds me of society today, people really think that by the
(13:46):
material things that they have,or certain things or how they
live that that's the thing likethat's, that's the way to go.
But in all reality is like Godis the way to go. God is the all
of everything. And if there'sjust one opportunity for you to
be able to give some of thatback, just having a one on one
(14:09):
time with God and just lettingGod use you. So he can guide you
to share with other people. Ithink that is what people is
missing and a lack of wantingmaterial things and all these
things and all this money andall this stuff. Because when I
look at people and I look at allthis luxury and all this stuff
that they have, my questionalways goes into my mind you
know, like what are you givingback to the people you know, are
(14:32):
you share information, are youit because it doesn't
necessarily have to be yourwealth that you're giving away
to somebody. I wouldn'trecommend working hard for
everything that you want andjust giving away like no, I
don't recommend that. But I dorecommend sharing some wealthy
things that you do have andwealth can come in different
(14:53):
ways. It can come in knowledge,it can come in protection, it
can come in things that you knowlonger need, you know, it
doesn't have to necessarily justbe money, but you can actually
share the wealth and theknowledge of having a
relationship with God or just, you know, sharing the wealth of
knowledge that you may come fromthe same place as somebody else,
and that they're not on theirown. So for me, it's really a
(15:14):
big deal to see luxury in thischapter. Because I know that I
want to put myself in a betterposition to be able to have a
luxury lifestyle, and I don'twant the luxury lifestyle to
over consume me enough, or I'mforgetting that God provided for
me, or to be able to share theluxury wealth of the lifestyle
that I have with other people.
(15:38):
And again, it just doesn't haveto be material things or it
doesn't have to be money. Butknowledge for me is a huge
wealth benefit that somebodycould share with somebody that
they can, you know, take thatknowledge and make something of
himself and I talk and I'mtalking to experience, because I
see a lot of people who want tosell things, especially
information, people want to sellinformation, but too much
(16:00):
information can bemisinformation, and too much
information can be misguidedinformation as well. So you can
definitely be misguided by allthe information that you're
receiving to try to sellinformation to people is, oh,
no, sometimes it can be lowclass, depending on the level of
people in this. There's a lotthat goes with that. And I'm
just speaking more on experienceagain. So I always ask God, you
(16:24):
know, when I get to certainplaces in life, and better
positions in life, allow me tobe able to share certain things,
whether it's money, whether it'stime, whether it's knowledge,
whether it's you know, just ashoulder to listen a year to
listen or just encouraging wordswhatever it is, maybe I'm always
asking God to make sure I neverlooked too far into luxury
(16:46):
material things and he is theluxury of my life. And I'm very
glad that I'm not really a bigluxury person like no offense to
anybody that that is pleaseplease no judgment, Honey, be
all of luxury of all you want tothat has nothing to do with me.
But I think the luxury for mecomes in it's just knowing that
God really do got my back likereally is with me really talks
(17:10):
with me really listened reallyconference me. And I know like,
even taken on this next journey, how fearful I could be and just
feeling a little bit of comfortfrom God and just feeling like
the love and the warmth from Godwrap his arms around me and just
remind me that I'm going to beokay, that is such a beautiful
day for me. And it is just, it'sa great thing. And I had a
(17:33):
preacher, pray for me who was ona corner. And the people that
walk around or go door to doorwhen they hand you a pamphlet or
they hand you something aboutGod for some reason. I've always
like wow, these people are verybold to do this like to be
talking about God, it was somuch judgment around you with so
much criticism around you forpeople to stand here or you
(17:57):
know, really declare their lovefor God and really try to get
people to hear what God issaying and the words of the
Bible and how powerful they arelike it really means something
and so I can't wait when Godgave me the opportunity to share
my voice and my story and thewords of the Bible with people
on big stages and things likethat and not just for My glory
to know what God is doing withme but for the glory of others
(18:20):
who know what God can do forother people. And if you just
give him the opportunity if youjust give yourself the
opportunity to get to know himthen man life is just so so
beautiful in it and it's reallya reward you guys so yes, you
guys that was the end of ourchapter I am looking forward but
not looking forward to next weekvisuals we will be back on
(18:42):
YouTube and I will be puttingthings in place in order even
though I'm not ready at all. Iknow that I serve a mighty God,
okay because the end of thisverse that is said at all he who
forms the mountains who createsthe wind and who reveals his
thoughts to mankind who turnsdown to darkness and treads on
the heights of the earth. TheLord God Almighty is his name
(19:06):
and that's the one that I serve.
