Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome to your Diary episode. Here's the thing.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
I'm a bit of a nomad, so these episodes come
to you from wherever I'm living or traveling to at
the time. So I'll share with you what's going on
in my world, from book tours, animal encounters, delish meals,
nature adventures, health discoveries, to swimming in hidden Byron Bay beaches.
(00:25):
Come with me as I share my adventures with you.
Oh my goodness, it pains me to say, but this
is the last Byron Bay Diary for a little while.
As I record this, I am ninety percent packed. I
want to say ninety maybe ninety five percent packed, although
(00:47):
I'm sitting here in my PJS and recording this pod.
Then I've got an hour and a half. I've got
an hour and a half now until I get picked
up to go to the airport, go to from Ballina
which is the Byron airport, to SIDS before hours, stop
over in Sydney, and then Sydney, Los Angeles back to
(01:08):
LA I'm so torn, Like I'm really excited to get
back and to work, you know what I mean, all
the fun things, but I'm also like I'm looking I'm
sitting across the road right now in the colom that
we've been gifted.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
I'm going to tell you all about it. But it is.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
Literally on Main Beach, literally across the road, like it
is in saying how stunning the location is. So it's
called Beach Suites Byron Bay. They have all different size
it's like service departments. We're in a penthouse right now.
We have our own private rooftop pool. It's two bedroom,
(01:48):
a huge dining table, huge kitchen. Since we've been here,
we've been cooking. And that's one thing I said to Matt,
like whenever we stay somewhere now, like we learned so
much from this stree because we have been here over
a month now and we've stayed in ten different places,
which is amazing, and we've been gifted these incredible like
(02:12):
I've done Influencers Days and all that kind of thing.
But I said to me, if there's no kitchen, it's
you kind of gotta be really savvy with like health
and wellness stuff, which we have been because Byron is
such a healthy place to eat. But you're having like
this is a huge, huge apartment in penthouse and where
literally you literally just like walk out onto the ocean
(02:36):
it's so quick and easy to get anywhere in town.
We don't have a car, so we're just like walking
around town. It's so great. I've been doing the lighty
hike every single morning, and because daylight Savings just switched around,
like I woke up and I was like, oh, my goodness,
it's four forty eight, like ten to five, and I
was like, no, it's ten to six. Quick to a
lighty and I got to watch the sunrise. So my
(02:58):
lighty hike yesterday was unflap, flip and reel. I saw
three whales, which is my word for kohala, not two,
but three, and two were mum and baby, I'm pretty sure,
or dad and baby. I'll put it all on my stories.
And then I saw three wallabies. I believe they're called
(03:22):
rock wallabies because they kind of like live on the cliffs.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
And I didn't see dolphins.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
Yes, say, I've seen dolphins in the past when I
took my friend Kelsey for a hike. If you want
to see dolphins, you hike in the afternoon. They're still
sleepy in the mornings, that's my theory. But if you
hike it like four four thirty three three that you're
going to see dolphins because I don't know, they're just
active in the afternoon, whereas if you want to see
wales koalas, then you want to be hiking first thing,
(03:50):
because they're more active in the morning.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
What else have I said?
Speaker 2 (03:54):
I've just literally, I said to matt ah day Made,
I've seen Kowhala one day, and then I was sitting
at Woods in Bangalore another days. Simon Baker so handsome,
by the way, and I was like, tick tick tick.
Boss has seen all the hemies. I've seen none. But
it's just been so nice to be here in Byron.
(04:17):
I feel so lucky to be like literally across the
road from the ocean right now. And I said to that,
we've actually never lived like across the road from the ocean. Obviously,
we've lived like in ocean towns like Turkie and all
of that, and we've obviously lived in Byron before, but
we've never been like where you lived. Just walk across
the road straight into the ocean. And I get it now.
(04:39):
I get why it's a thing. It's like so cool.
So beach sweets Byron Bay.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
Check them out.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
They're amazing, fully serviced apartments and you are one hundred
just across the road from the beach, like it's insane,
it's incredible. And you've got like shipwrecks to one side,
which is literally right next to Main Beach, but there's
a shipwreck there. And then you've got Main Beach, which
is where we just walk across the road and swim,
and then right next to that you've got Clarks and
(05:09):
then you've got the pass like yesterday, the passes where.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
A lot of people's surf. It's so beautiful.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
Yes, I hiked the LIGHTI and then came back through
the pass and just took my hiking shoes off and
just like literally waded in the water the whole way
back till I got here.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
So good.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
Highly yeah, I highly recommend staying near the ocean if
you get the chance. It's just such a lovely recharge
and there's something so rejuvenating about it, all the negative ions,
all that kind of stuff. Righty, Oh, what else have
I been doing. We've been on the food safari of
Byron Bay. Of course, I feel like this whole trip
(05:48):
has been a food safari trip, and it's been so
fun that we've been going to woods in Bangalore, tuch
shop as you know, we're really good mates with those boys.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
I went to High Life with Boss yesterday.
Speaker 2 (05:59):
I get there, there are these brown rice kimchi fritters
with mackerel, and then we actually just went to a
butcher and got some meat and made a big salad
last night, which was really nice. Because I'm traveling today,
so I was like, oh, I just don't want to
feel like bloated or fluidy or any of that, because
when you're traveling, your body's already doing so much else.
(06:22):
So when I flew over, our flight got delayed coming over,
and I was in the lounge and had a couple
of whiskeys, and can I say, I had three whiskeys
having that little pinch and then I had nothing, But
I just have waters. Having that little pinch your hangover
midflight is not a good feeling. So I am going
(06:43):
to do the opposite today tea water, hydration, booze free
and I'm just going to see how that feels for
me because I couldn't sleep on the flight over, so
and I want to sleep on the flight back so
I can kind of get into LA and just you know,
hopefully get straight into working and doing busy for doing busy,
(07:07):
get being busy. I think the first thing I'll do
when I get to La is air one and just
get a really like nourishing, yummy meal and then probably
put myself to bed. It's at least twenty four hours
of It's about twenty four hours door to door of travel,
so it's.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Just a lot of moving parts.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
But I am literally going to record this and pack
the pod gear up and take it back with me.
What else to tell you? I've done so much stuff
I just can't. Oh my goodness. We went to top Shop.
Oh my goodness, have I not told you this? Went
to top Shop In the last week. I've been to
top Shop twice. I one had to try their gluten
free Brecky burger. It's really good if you are a
(07:46):
gluten free girly like me. Definitely all of their burgers
you can get on a GF.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
Bun and they're really good.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
And then I went back. We went back with our
mates again and we had an Asae bowl or I
had an Asia with the gluten fregranol, which is like
one of my favorite things to get from top Shop.
It's so yummy and it feels like a sweet treat,
and they do it with macadamia butter, like local macadamia butter,
which is like my weakness.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
I love it.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
But they had this pop up going over the weekend
called butter Boy Biscuit like cookies.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
Oh my goodness.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
They had so many different types like salted macadamia, like lime,
like all these incredible flavors like cookie dough all that.
But they had one gluten free one and it was
red velvet and I'm not joking, hand on my heart.
I think it's the best cookie I've ever had in
my life. It was like oozy and mushy in the middle.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
It was huge.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
It was so delish, So that was fun. I actually
had that twice. I had it one day, told my
mate Beck about it, and then we went back the
next day and had it.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
Very delicious.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
But they're based in Manly, I believe butter Boy Cookies
and they just did a pop up at top Shop
the last two weekends and I thought nothing of it
other than top Shop was super busy and I was like,
oh wow. You know, it came up on my Instagram
and I was like, thank you. When there's a GF option,
I am there. So that was amazing. We've been swimming loads,
(09:08):
like loads and loads, like just getting in the ocean.
I just wanted to feel like so like salty, you know,
like I just had my oceana fixed because in La
some of the water isn't safe to swim in yet
post fires. So I just thought, you know what, I'm
going to have all the swimming get all out of
my system here. And so I've been swimming loads, swam
(09:30):
broken head the past, tallows haven't swam. Watergoes walk past
it every day though, and main beach haven't swam. Shipwrecks,
but that's like a lot of people surf shipwrecks. A
lot of people surf the past, A lot of people
surf cozy corner. I don't swim cozy corner. It's like
(09:50):
there's a rumor that it's the sharks.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
So I love sharks so much, but I also am
scared of sharks. You would.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
I'm so fascinated by them. With Orca whales like all
those apexy ones. I'm like, oh, you're so fascinating to me.
The thing I love about sharks. So I've got a
really good friend Jad He's an incredible natural path and
counselor in Melbourne and if you ever need any of
those things, let me know.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
I love to give out his details. He's incredible.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
Anyway, we used to work together at health food store
in Malbs.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
He's going, he was like, you're a shark, and I
go what, and.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
He goes, you'll dye if you stop moving, and I
was like, oh, that's a compliment, and so I do
love a shark. I've also swam with whale sharks before.
I haven't seen any sharks the whole time. So the
whole time I've been here, I've seen no sharks, no snakes.
I for sure thought i'd see a snake.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
No snakes.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
Heaps of Eastern Water dragons. They're amazing. They're just these
big dragons that love to be fed snacks and they
just like chill around you. There's lots of them at
the farm in Byron Bay, which is another beautiful like
cafe restaurant to go to, really good one if you've
got kiddos, because there's chickens, there's baby goats. At the
moment they've got piggies. Like it's so fun and it's
(11:03):
like literally on a funt. Loads of people get married
there like it's stunning. And then that made me feel
like Boston. I actually went there. I cheated on gluten
one day, which I can do. It just really upsets
my stomach, so I have more of an intolerance than
a full blown allergy. Really upsets my stomach, and then
I hold lots of water weight like lots of fluid.
(11:26):
So I cheat it one day on gluten and we
shared a Portuguese tart from there and a jam doughnut,
both very good, Both very good. But yeah, it also
affects my mood a little bit because obviously I'd have
a bit of inflammation, and we have serotonin receptors in
our gut as well, so when your guts inflamed, your
mood can be a bit meh, you know, So what.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
Else have I done? This is my list?
Speaker 2 (11:51):
I was like, all the stuff that I want to do.
Oh yeah, I've started a substack. I don't know how
to tell you what my substack name is. I'm sure
if you search me it'll come up straight away. And
I've been sharing a little bit like diary entry bit
the way like I do a diary podcast.
Speaker 1 (12:10):
Here.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
I'm going to do food travel guides for boat for
Byron Sydney and Melbourne and I'm going to do them
like over the next like month or so, I imagine. So, yeah,
Stubstack's officially launched.
Speaker 1 (12:24):
I should see what my name is. I think it's
just Lola Berry.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
I had to actually pulling my laptop at I had
to set a name because they didn't have Lola Berry
wasn't available.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
Guys, can you believe it? I think I said it too.
Here's my substack dashboard profile. Oh it's yamoh Lala Berry.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
It's literally the exact same as my Instagram So why
you mmo l lab ah Why it's totally free too,
and mine is a free one. Like I don't have
any kind of payment subscription. I don't know really how
(13:04):
to do any of that yet. But yeah, I've basically
just been doing diary updates from the trip. The last
one I did, which I was staying at twenty eight
degrees where they have this insanely incredible gluten free Paleo
pafe that I was having every morning for breakfast.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
It was so good.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
So that part of the trip I was close to
Pilates and Peaches, so I did a week travel pass
for Peaches. This part of the trip, i've been closer
to the beach. I've just mainly been doing lighthouse hikes,
so fun though, absolutely love it.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
What else have I been doing?
Speaker 2 (13:39):
Oh, really good chocolate here, Loco Love and Pana. Pana's
got a new flavor, Rocky Road. This is for all
the Aussies listening, because I'm sure you can get Pana anywhere,
Like it's nearly every health food store and it's even
like Wooli's right.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
What else I'm trying to?
Speaker 2 (13:57):
I'm trying to, you know, when you're trying to think
of all the things that you want to talk about
and then you're like, shiver me timbers. I have to
literally go in an hour, so I'm gonna get Matt
to make me these egg wraps so I have a
really nice, big breaky before I go. And there's this brand,
I think it's called be Free and they're at war
(14:18):
Worst and they did his avocado raps gluten free. They
do sweet potato as well, but I'm just hooked on
the avocado because they taste really creamy and they kind
of like satiate you and fill you up.
Speaker 1 (14:27):
So that'll be my breaky this morning.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
I also had some skin treatments last night, so I'm
not I'm avoiding the sun, so I'm literally looking out here.
And this morning I watched the sun rise and I
was like, oh, I can't do my lady. But as
Boss said, big picture, and I'm watching him right now,
he's just bacon in the sun checking his ig like
the legend that he is.
Speaker 1 (14:51):
But yeah, this is me.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
So I'm literally gonna pat go to the airport. The
next diary, of course, will be from LA. I'm recording
this a couple of days ahead of time because you
never know with travel, you get stressed out, blah blah blah,
you know if I'm jet lagged, So I thought I'll
just get ahead and do the lucky Last Byron diary
for a while. So, yeah, we're back in the big smoke.
(15:13):
By the time you hear this, I should be back
in the big smoke and back at work and in
the in the motion of work stuff. And I don't
know if I've told you this, but I mean a pilot,
which is so exciting. That why I'm heading back to
LA a pinch earlier than the boo and I'm I'll
be in like prep mode for the next ten days
(15:35):
a couple of weeks and just kind of like I
know about you, but when I've got something really like
high stakes and big and scary and awesome, I really
kind of like bunker down and I get into a
bit of a health routine where I like to pre
cook on you know, like do my own food prep,
a lot of green juices, a lot of broths, all
that kind of things. So yeah, I'm really excited, and
(15:57):
I'll fill you in on that. That'll be a good lay.
Fill you in on that when I do my Ala
diary with you next week, because I'll have more details.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
But yeah, I'm really excited.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
And I worked on that script with my acting coach
in melb So big trip. We did Byron at the
start with the cyclone. Then we went to Sid's a
bunch of Potter Rooneys, and then and caught up with
my mate Clare, shout out, Claire, You're amazing. And then
went to Mals bunch of pods, lots of FAMO staff,
stayed at that beautiful hotel the Motley in Richmond, Thank you, Rachel,
(16:30):
and then came back to end the trip in Byron Bay.
Got that beauty, like had such beautiful time here, Like
we went to the Bangalow farmer's markets on the weekend,
caught up with mates. You know, we celebrated our friend's
birthday in the hinterland, like.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
We did it all. We did it all.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
So feel so flip and lucky and just so wrapped
and yeah, thank you for being part of the adventure.
Everything stays the same with the Potter Roons. I recorded
so many episodes in Australia, so there's so much ready
and coming for you.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
And thank you, thank you, thank you. You make this
pod come to life.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
And it's one of the most pressure precious things in
my life. I love doing it so much and I
think I'm going to start pod coaching again. So that's
where I do like zoom consults with pod coaching a
bit like health coaching, so I do health coaching, pod
coaching and how to write a book coaching. If you
want any of that, you can just email met Lolaberry
(17:33):
dot com. But I'll promote it properly on socials and
all of that when I'm a bit settled in La.
Speaker 1 (17:39):
All right, I love you all.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
You're amazing. I love podcasting so much. I could do
it till the cows come. I'm only stopping myself talking,
right now because I have to zip up my bag
and unpack that beautiful spell stuff. I've been holding off
packing the spell stuff because it's so beautiful and I
just want to keep it in its bags.
Speaker 1 (17:58):
But as you know, when you pack, you've got to
throw the you.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
Know, the big cardboard boxes bags out, and I'm like,
I got shoes to and I'm I got to throw
a shoe box out anyway. All that to say is
I got to finished packing. Guys, You're the best thing
ever Huru, big love babe,
