Speaker 2 (00:11):
Hello good neighbors, and welcome to the Good

Group of Cleveland and theGreater Chattanooga Area.
My name is Scott Howell, ofcourse, and I'm your host and
for you first-time listeners.
The purpose of the GoodNeighbor podcast is to bring
awareness to the residents ofour communities regarding the
locally owned and or operatedbusinesses in Cleveland,

(00:34):
chattanooga and the surroundingareas.
Small local businesses are thebackbone of our communities and
they need our support.
Join me today as our Goodneighbor, bradley Templeton with
Beaumont Pest Control.
Welcome, bradley.
Thank you for being our specialguest today on the Good
Neighbor podcast.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Hey, I'm glad to be here.
It's pretty good.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Absolutely.
Thank you very much, Bradley.
I appreciate that.
Good shout out they say for usthere.
You know we're going to talkabout the business, about
Beaumont, Pest Control and allthe things y'all offer there,
but before we do, would you liketo share with us a little bit
about yourself or your family oranything, just for the public?

Speaker 3 (01:18):
Well, sure, I come from a small town of Lafayette,
georgia.
I've been pretty much raisedhere and our family's been here
for quite a while.
I have a lot of family aroundthis area, matter of fact, and a
lot of locals know me and stuff, so it's been pretty good yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
And for those who don't know, bradley is actually
the son of the owner of mrrobert templin and, uh, he's
doing the podcast with us today.
So your dad must have some goodfaith in you to depend on to be
the representative for thebusiness today, bradley.
So congratulations on that,thank you.
Let's just jump in and talkabout beaumont Pest Control.
So you said you're based out ofLafayette, georgia.

(02:08):
Now some people might think ofthat, but do you work in
Chattanooga?
Do you come to the Chattanoogaarea to do work?
So tell us all about yourbusiness.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Okay, Our business is actually in Ringgold, Georgia,
and we service areas all the waydown to Somerville, Georgia,
all the way to Decatur,Tennessee, and Soddy Daisy, and
we'll go all the way out toSignal Mountain and Kelly's
Ferry.
We'll even go out to Benton,Tennessee, and we do some stuff

(02:41):
out towards the Chatsworth OldFort and Daunton, Georgia area.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Okay, so quite a large territory there.
So when it says pest control,we're all pretty much used to
the guys that come and spray thehouse spray outside or inside
the house and do things likethat put the mousetraps out and
things like that but do you alsodo termite work?
We?

Speaker 3 (03:04):
do out and things like that.
But do you also do termite work?
We do.
We do termite inspections forrealtors and and home sellers
and home buyers.
We'll do termite treatments andother forms or fashions.
We provide pest control as well, of course, and then we also do

(03:28):
a little bit of rodent controland we'll do stuff for
businesses and family homes.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
Rodent control?
Is that kind of the largervarmints?
Is that what you're referringto?

Speaker 3 (03:41):
It's mostly mouse and rats, okay Is that what you're
referring to.
It's mostly mouse and rats, okay, and we have bait stations
we put out around exteriors andcrawl spaces and basements and
garages.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
And for everybody that don't know, there is
definitely a difference betweena mouse and a rat.
So if you ever see a rat, believe me you will remember it,
that's for sure.
Now let me ask you something.
Tell us about your journey.
You know you grew up and Iguess you grew up kind of in the
business, but you had a choicewhether you wanted to do this or

(04:13):
not.
Talk to us about your journey.
How did you decide to jump inthe family business?

Speaker 3 (04:16):
So, as the son to the owner, robert Templeton, I
pretty much started my journeyin this business once I
graduated from high school and Iput in a lot of studying into
entomology and pest controlservices and IPM, which is

(04:40):
integrated pest management, andI try to further continue my
education.
As I do do so, I know that Iguess finding my own identity
and role within this companythere's a little bit of pressure
to live up to the legacy of myparents.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
So initially I struggled to assert myself and
carve my niche out in thebusiness, but I guess through
perseverance and lots ofstudying I've been doing better,
I've been providing a betterservice and I really enjoy this
line of work.
So yeah he's come far six yearsof experience.

(05:25):
So yeah, I'm blessed to be here.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
Yeah, well, you know you're saying that about that.
That makes you a bigger man inmy eyes.
To admit that maybe at firstyou you know, just you wasn't as
assertive as you need to be,but you grew up from that.
You've grown from that.
You know, a lot of us have thatin our life Nothing to be
embarrassed about where we, whenwe were younger, we really
didn't give it our all and uh,you know, as we grew and matured

(05:54):
, you know we saw the necessity,uh, and so that's great to know
.
Uh, and and you know you weretalking about all the education,
uh, that you you took.
That that's that's good to knowtoo, because sometimes people
come out to your house and youwonder do they know more than I
do?
You know, you just kind ofwonder about it.
So it's great to know thatyou're educated in these things
and you know it's and I don'tmean to do all the talking, but

(06:16):
kind of wanting to express my,my gratitude for your industry.
You know, uh, the one of thethings that you know, we have
issues with stuff.
Sometimes we don't know how todeal with it.
You know, we don't know what todo with these carpenter bees
that are flying around all over, you know, trying to eat our
deck off the back of our house.
You know we don't know how todeal with a lot of these things,
so we appreciate educated folkslike yourself that we can reach

(06:39):
out to and say hey, you knowwe're having trouble here, can
you help us?
And you know exactly what to do, so that's a great.
Can you tell us, bradley, aboutany myths or misconceptions
that people seem to have?
Maybe the first time that yougo out it's their first time to
ever deal with a pest controlThings that they might bring up

(07:02):
that they're questions that theyhave that you could help maybe
on this program.
Help a lot of people with.

Speaker 3 (07:09):
So one common misconception that I encounter a
lot in the pest controlindustry is the belief that the
do-it-yourself methods are justas effective as professional
services.
While the do-it-yourselfsolutions might seem more
cost-effective up front, theyoften lack the expertise or
specialized tools and access topotent treatments that

(07:34):
professionals have.
This can lead to incompleteeradication of pests or
temporary relief withoutaddressing the underlying issue.
Professional pest controlservices offer comprehensive
solutions that not onlyeliminate pests but also prevent
the future infestations,ensuring a pest-free environment
for your home or business.

(07:55):
I know usually, like with goingout to people's places and
stuff, some people think thatwe're just there and we can
spray some chemical and it'lljust make the pests just
disappear forever.
But now there's there's a lotof.

(08:16):
You gotta be meticulous, yougotta have a whole strategy, and
that's where the IPM Imentioned earlier really comes
into play.

Speaker 2 (08:25):
You have to think like a pest and you have to go
in there, and a lot of people, when they do it themselves, they
they don't really put stuff outin effective areas and that's
why pest professionals arepretty essential and uh that'd
be like, yeah, that'd be kind oflike sending me out to build a

(08:47):
house and and I really don'tknow what, which nail to use and
I don't know which board to touse, the length, you know, not
the, maybe the length, but thethickness or the.
You know, I don't.
Somebody was talking aboutbuilding a deck and if you
didn't use the right material, the deck would start sagging
every time.
So, the matter of time, it'sjust going to start sagging, and
so I wouldn't have known thatyou sent me to build a deck, I

(09:08):
wouldn't have known that.
But but you've studied andyou've learned, and you, you
know not only what the bugs looklike, but you've studied and
you've learned, and you know notonly what the bugs look like,
but you also know how they actand what they do and and what
their goal is, and so you canget in there and put a stop to
that.
But, like you said, one, it'snot just a one time thing.
You go out there and it'salways, it's done forever.
So again, I appreciate yourexpertise.

(09:30):
Well, let me ask you this, right, getting outside the
business?
You me ask you this, brad, getting outside of the business,
you said you live in Lafayette, right.
So you live out in the country,so to speak, and you know I'm
an old country boy myself.
So tell me what you do for funwhen you're not working.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
Well, it may sound kind of geeky or nerdy, but I
really enjoy just entomology ingeneral, like I'll just go out
in the yard and I'll start justseeing what the ants and the
bees are up to and I just try tostudy them.
I really enjoy the carpenterbees because they're kind of

(10:05):
remind me of like small puppies, even though they'll they'll do
a lot of damage to your, yourhouse if you're not careful.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
Yeah, they sure will will.
I'll attest to that I knowthere's a.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
I also like to do rock climbing and stuff also in
my free time all right.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
Oh, that rock climbing requires you to be
pretty athletic somewhat, right?
If you're not athletic, youkeep it up, you will be pretty
athletic somewhat, right yeah,if you're not athletic.
If you keep it up, you will be.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
I know crawling into attics and then crawling in
crawl spaces and going in thosedark and musty areas.
You know.

Speaker 2 (10:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
It requires to stay fit for the most part.

Speaker 2 (10:50):
Yeah, when I was just out of high school I got hired
by a pest control company.
This was back in the days whenthe hand you a tank, said go get
them, son.
I mean, you know, there was nolearning, there was nothing.
They just told you to go sprayaround the walls.
And you know, spray here andspray there.
I didn't know what I was doing,but yeah, I was.
I was a lot more fit then to beable to do a lot of them things

(11:11):
than I am now, that's for sure.
So I totally understand whatyou mean.
You know, bradley, if there wasone thing, one thing that you
wish our listeners knew aboutyour business, that they
wouldn't know unless you toldthem, and you wish you could
have shouted from the rooftopswhether it's about Beaumont Pest
Control or whether it's justabout pest control in general,

(11:32):
what would it be?

Speaker 3 (11:33):
