(00:15):
Hello and welcome to theinvestor evolution podcast.
Today's going to be aninteresting one because we are
going to be talking.
About the Jake Paul.
Mike Tyson fight.
And I know nothing about boxing.
But when I was watching thisevent, This production.
(00:39):
It made me think a lot aboutthis entrepreneurial journey
that a lot of us are on and Ihad a lot of takeaways.
So I wanted to share those withyou.
So, first of all, I startedlooking into who is Jake Paul?
I honestly, last night I was, Itexted my husband on my way home
(01:01):
from work.
Said I'm on my way.
And he said, I'm going to watchthe Paul Tyson fight.
Obviously I had heard about it.
But I never really looked intoit.
I had no idea who Jake Paul was.
And so looking into him a littlebit, Here's what I found out.
So.
In 2013, he started postingvideos on an app called vine.
(01:26):
Also something I've never heardof, but he amassed 5 million
followers on there with over 2billion views on that app.
So he has been working, whateverthat means, posting videos,
whatever that content lookslike.
Then he moved to a YouTubechannel with his brother and
(01:49):
they post prank videos.
He apparently.
Does music videos.
So he's an entertainer, asinger.
I don't know if he writes allhis songs, but very interesting.
Right.
And so on YouTube, he has over20 million followers.
(02:09):
And one of his music videos hasover 300 million views.
So he has been around since2013.
Now he started boxing in 2018.
And sounds like this wassomething that he was passionate
about and wanted to pursue.
Sounds like he's also known MikeTyson for years.
(02:31):
And very interesting.
That this is the path that hechose, but he started boxing in
2018.
He made his professional debutin 2020.
Okay.
And it, from what I could find,he challenged Mike Tyson in 2022
to this fight.
(02:52):
And I just think this wholething is so fascinating.
So what are takeaways that Ihave as an entrepreneur?
And I would love to hear yoursas a, well, put those down in
the comments.
I would love to hear when youthink about this whole.
Thing that happened, this, thisthing that culminated in this
(03:13):
big fight.
Last night, cause I'm recordingthis on November 16th happened
on November 15th.
You know, what are yourtakeaways from this?
So some things that I thinkabout.
When I'm thinking about whathappened, what transpired, how
we got to that point.
The first takeaway I have iswhat you think about you bring
(03:34):
about when you focus onsomething.
A goal, a vision.
And you work towards it.
It becomes reality.
This is fascinating to me.
So in my research this morning, again, guys, I know nothing
about boxing.
I knew nothing about this fightbefore yesterday.
And so just looking into it.
(03:55):
What I found is he went.
Down to south America.
For an Ayahuasca ceremony.
And during this first Ayahuascatrip, he had this vision.
of fighting Mike Tyson.
I've heard other places though, that this was something he's
dreamed up before.
And I wonder if it was somethingthat like, how cool would it be
(04:18):
if I fought Mike Tyson?
And then when he's had thisAyahuasca trip and this vision.
It like cemented it in his brainof this is something that's
possible.
Like I can see it unfolding and.
From that.
Time on.
He called Mike Tyson.
(04:39):
Apparently they're friends.
They've they.
Spend time together.
Um, and he said, Hey, I had thisvision.
And they agreed to this fight.
What I think is fascinatingabout this.
A couple of things.
So one, he had this vision, hecould see himself.
(05:00):
Fighting Mike Tyson.
And winning.
And that vision became so clearin his mind, this future reality
that he wanted to pursue it.
He wanted it to happen in, inreal life.
And.
What he thought about, hebrought about, so over the next
two years, so it sounds likethis challenge happened sometime
(05:22):
in 2022 and over the next twoyears.
It became a reality now.
He didn't just say, Hey, I wantto fight Mike Tyson.
And it happened.
Uh, two years passed, right.
They both worked trained, prepared for this moment.
And so there is that vision ofwhat you want to happen.
(05:48):
And then there's the work thatgoes into preparing.
Planning.
And making it happen.
So there is the thought and theyaction.
It's combined that have tohappen.
In order.
For this to come about.
And I just think it's so coolthat he pursued it right.
(06:10):
First of all Mike Tyson is 58years old.
So when he challenged him, hewas 56.
So I was 58 years old.
He hasn't fought since 2005.
So this vision of fighting MikeTyson.
Didn't necessarily seem like areality seemed like something
(06:31):
that could happen.
But he asked the question, areyou up for it?
Are you willing to do this?
And.
You know, the answer is alwaysno.
If you don't ask.
And so how cool is it that hepursued it?
I think that's, that's somethingthat we all has entrepreneurs.
(06:52):
Should really remember if it'ssomething that like inspires
you.
You're excited by.
Even though it's never beendone.
Or it seems so outlandish.
The answer is always no, if youdon't ask pursue it, if it's
something that you want and deepdown in your soul, you're like,
This would be so amazing.
(07:14):
Go for it.
I think.
I think it is such aninspiration to me of what he
did.
Like I said, I have no idea who.
Who he was.
Um, but it's, it's justfascinating to me.
That he had this vision and hechased that dream.
And I love that.
I think it's awesome.
So number two thing.
(07:36):
That sticks out to me.
Is.
That it takes a village.
Who is coming with you, who issupporting you on this journey?
Right?
Jake, Paul, didn't just say, Iwant to fight Mike Tyson and it
happened.
It took again two years, right.
It took training.
So he has a team behind him.
(07:57):
Pushing him training him, teaching him he's learning
boxing.
He's still new to this sport.
As of 2018.
So, you know, there'sprofessional fighters who have
been fighting.
For years.
Right?
And so for him to go from 2018to 2024, And fight Mike Tyson.
(08:17):
A lot of work had to go into it.
A lot of.
Family, a lot of support withhis team.
And it sounds like he had beenfighting and maybe even changed
teams.
You know, and then I thinkabout.
His followers who are supportinghim and encouraging him on this
(08:38):
journey.
And then.
When it comes to the big, themain event, right?
Netflix came along, um, MVP,which is most valuable
promotions, which is for boxing.
They came along and support.
And none of this would havehappened if he didn't have the
(08:59):
team with him.
Right.
It's really the who.
Not the how, who is coming withyou, who is supporting you, who
are those team members that youneed?
In order to take it to the nextlevel.
So that's the other thing Ithink about with this.
Who are the people that are yoursupport system in your business
(09:22):
and your entrepreneurial journeywho's coming with you.
Are they the right people?
Do you need to change out?
Maybe you're on a team.
Maybe you're working with ateam.
It just.
It isn't quite working.
Is it okay to switch and changeit up and find the team that's
going to be your rocket fuel totake off.
(09:42):
Yes.
It's okay.
Find those people that you aremeant to work with, uh, and, and
pursue that goal with.
And when you find the right fit,I think it does accelerate your
journey.
So I think that one was reallyfun.
Also number three.
(10:03):
Success takes time.
But maybe not as long as youthink.
So he's been this public figure.
Jake, Paul's been this publicfigure since 2013.
And then, and probably backthen, he wasn't a figure, right?
A public figure.
He was just starting out.
I think if I understand themath, right.
He's 27.
Now that was 11 years ago.
(10:24):
He was 16 when you started.
So when he started posting at16, Did he think at that point?
But he was going to fight MikeTyson in probably the biggest
televised event in history.
I don't know if it history, buton Netflix, right?
This public sporting event.
(10:46):
It's crazy.
So, what could he, what did heaccomplish in that?
11 years.
So much, but it took time, right.
He didn't start and then, and,you know, get to here and I
think.
When we look at him.
And look at this journey.
(11:07):
You know, cause like I said, Ididn't know who this guy was and
really until yesterday and thismorning when I started
researching him, So it seemslike, man, he's this overnight
success.
No, he's not.
It took him 11 years to getwhere he's going.
But what I think this is, isvery encouraging to the rest of
us, of what can happen when weare digging in to our journey
(11:32):
and putting in the work, whatcan happen in.
10 years, what can happen infive years?
What could happen in three yearswhen we just keep working?
And I think there is a lot of.
Revising.
Iteration.
And changing and evolving intothe person that you're meant to
(11:52):
be.
And those goals may change overtime.
I don't think when he started in2013, he thought he was going to
turn into this professionalboxer.
You know, in 2018, so five yearshe started pursuing boxing.
And again, Y'all can, Educate meon why the background behind
that.
(12:13):
But I think it's just.
So awesome that he pursued hisgoals, probably in spite of what
other people were telling him inspite of.
You know, the image that maybeothers thought that he should
have.
And he went for something thathe loves, he enjoys and pursued
(12:33):
this vision.
And.
I love that.
This success has come.
To him.
It was drawn to him because ofthe work, because of the work he
put in.
For the training for boxingstarting in 2018 until now.
He has done a lot of work day inand day out training.
(12:56):
And I want to encourage you asan entrepreneur.
You're day in, day out in yourbusiness.
You are day in and day outputting in the work.
Do you have that vision, thatcrystal clear vision of where
you want to go?
Is it evolving as you reachedthe next level?
Do you see how far you can goand how much you can level up?
(13:21):
If not, I want you to startvision casting.
Ed Mylett calls it visioncasting, future casting.
Uh, pursuing these bigger goals, these bigger dreams.
And if you think about it, like.
Stairsteps, um, confirmation,when you start.
Building confidence.
And you start, you put in thework and you achieve a goal.
(13:45):
It's like confirmation that youcan, you can do it.
And I feel like that almostpropels you to bigger things.
And it's like, stair-steppingyour way up.
And as you're building yourconfidence, you.
Pursue bigger goals, hardergoals.
And when you achieve that hardergoal, that's what builds that
confidence.
(14:06):
And.
I think of it as looking back asthis stair step, this ladder of
proof.
That you can do hard things thatyou can pursue.
Crazy incredible goals and youcan achieve them.
And I really think watching thisjourney again, seeing what he
(14:29):
started out, Jake Paul startedout as, and what he.
Created.
It's incredible what he did inthe last two years, even.
And I think it's like thisacceleration, there's probably a
lot of like hard stuck.
You feel like nothing's makingprogress and then it just takes
off.
And I think for him, that's whathas happened.
(14:53):
Right.
We're seeing.
I'm seeing this.
Elevated state.
But it's been building for along time.
And over the last couple ofyears, you know, it, it has been
increasing.
This brings me to my next point.
Where.
The joy is in the journey.
Now we're all seeing and hearinglots of things about how the
(15:15):
fight went and how it wasdisappointing.
And, you know, how.
Everyone was hoping Mike Tysonwould knock him out and, you
know, they went eight rounds, all, all the things.
I actually don't think.
Any of this had to do with theoutcome.
I don't think he was pursuingthis.
(15:37):
For the outcome.
Obviously he's a big talker andlikes to stir the pot.
And create that controversy, which one is a great marketing
technique.
Two he knows what he's doing andmarketing that and creating
that.
Those those feelings that arecoming up for people, right?
(15:57):
Because Mike Tyson is thislegend.
And, you know, he's known forhis powerful punch and for being
able to take a hit.
And.
When we think of Mike Tyson, wethink of him.
You know, in 2005, right.
Or earlier.
And, when he was the undisputedchampion, I think it was from
(16:19):
like, 1988 and all on.
I forget the exact dates, butyou know, we think of him back
in the day when he was the mostpowerful.
And I think we all thought.
He's he's that person's going toshow up.
But for Jake Paul, I do wonder,I don't know that it was the
(16:40):
outcome that what he was lookingfor.
It was the joy of the journey ofgetting to that point of
pursuing his dreams.
Of standing.
In the ring with Mike Tyson.
Toe to toe man-to-man.
And taking punches and throwingpunches.
(17:01):
That I think I hope was what hewas so excited for.
Just that opportunity.
to See what it was like to, tobe in that ring to feel the
energy.
Of that stadium, there was like72,000 people there live.
(17:24):
How crazy was that?
Four.
For that to come together.
The joy in the journey ofgetting to that point.
And that culmination of pursuinghis dreams.
I think that's the moment that.
At least for me, I would havebeen most excited for.
It was because at that point youcan't dictate the outcome.
(17:47):
Right?
You just put into play.
You put in the work.
And you let it unfold as itdoes.
And I.
I love that thought of just whenhe first.
Kind of stepped into the ring.
Before Mike Tyson gets there andhe was kind of running around.
(18:10):
And.
I said to my husband and I waslike, he's just like soaking up
this moment.
You know, all of that hard workthat had.
Led up to that moment.
Like that.
I think was the joy that he was.
At least for me, but like, Iwould have been like so ecstatic
(18:31):
about, because the fight itself.
Wasn't really.
Maybe the point, the point wasjust being able to get in the
ring with Mike Tyson.
And I think that's really cool.
And so as we think about thisjourney for ourselves, whatever
the goal is, whatever the thingis that we're striving for.
(18:55):
When we get there.
If we haven't enjoyed.
The journey there.
It's going to feel unfulfilled..
There's going to be a let down.
And so I want to encourage younow as you're pursuing your
dreams and your goals.
Be present in the moment.
(19:17):
Be present with what you'redoing to achieve those goals.
Because when you look back, you're going to be so excited.
For the amazing things that youdid along the way to get where
you're going.
And I think that feeling is whatwe're all striving for, that,
that feeling of striving, thatfeeling of chasing the dream.
(19:41):
That's what's important.
And that's what.
Gets us up in the morning.
Not the end goal.
And so the joy really is in thejourney and I hope you're
pursuing that.
Each day.
And then the last thing that Iwas thinking about.
(20:02):
Is the ripple effect thatoccurred because he chose to
chase this dream.
So when Jake Paul said, I'mgoing to fight Mike Tyson.
I think it inspired a lot ofpeople, but think about all the
things that came about becausehe chose to chase his dream.
So one of the cool things thathappened was the co main event
(20:26):
with the women's boxers.
So Katie Taylor and AmandaSerrano.
Those two women were put on aplatform.
That was incredible.
70 plus thousand people in thatstadium cheering for them.
What an incredible ripple effectbecause Jake Paul decided to
(20:48):
chase a dream of fighting MikeTyson.
And what an empower, what apowerful platform.
To inspire others into boxing orwhatever.
Sport of their choice to inspirewomen to pursue their dreams.
Because, because.
Jake Paul decided to chase thisdream.
(21:10):
The ripple effect that hecreated, I think is massive.
And when I think about it, it'sso inspiring to me.
Because I think about Netflix,um, and what they're now doing.
This may be where they starttelevising other sporting
events.
(21:31):
And then we think of.
The most valuable promotions whowas also helping support women's
boxing and bring that up.
Um, but think about all theother.
People who are involved inbringing.
That event.
And who also benefited.
So, of course there's thetrainers.
(21:52):
Um, the team that helped trainboth Jake Paul.
And Mike Tyson for this event.
But I think about.
Um, like they talked about JakePaul's wardrobe and his million
dollar outfit.
So the ripple effect to thosedesigners.
Gas monkey garage.
Designed and created the carthat he rolled out in.
(22:16):
They benefited from this event.
He all the different things thathave come about who are
supported.
Who.
Benefited because he chased hisdreams.
And for us as entrepreneurs, who's benefiting because you are
chasing your dream.
(22:37):
Who are you bringing along?
Kind of goes back to the who,not how, and, um, you know,
taking a village for you to getto your dreams.
But those other people who aresupporting you, they benefit
from what you're doing.
So who is benefiting from you, chasing your dream?
And I think the bigger question.
(22:57):
Is.
If you don't chase your dream, who's missing out on fulfilling
some of their goals.
Who are you not helping?
Because you decided not to chaseyour goals.
So when you feel like giving up,when you feel like, oh, this is
so hard, am I even doing theright thing?
Remember that, that rippleeffect that is created by you
(23:20):
chasing your dreams is so muchbigger than you and probably.
You will never even know thetrue distance that, that ripple
effects.
I think that's really powerful.
And it gives me goosebumps tothink about that because it
really is amazing.
(23:41):
What we can create when we putour minds to it.
When we see that vision, when wesee that big goal.
And we go for it.
So, I guess.
Let me, let me recap a littlebit.
So takeaways that I had fromthis crazy event.
Was what you think about youbring about when you have a
(24:02):
clear vision of what you wantand you work towards it, it will
happen.
It takes a village.
Who's coming along with you.
Who is your support system?
And who is helping you achieveyour goals?
We are not successful on ourown.
We all need others to help usachieve those goals., Success
(24:24):
takes time.
There's no such thing as anovernight success, but it may
happen a lot quicker than youcould have expected.
And I think it really is.
It feels like it takes a longtime.
And then there's just thisacceleration.
But you have to get to theacceleration and you don't know
when that's going to happen.
So keep digging in, keep going, keep working for those goals.
(24:47):
Cause eventually.
As long as you don't stop, youwill hit that acceleration
phase.
I guarantee it.
And then number four, there isjoy in the journey.
It isn't about the destination.
If you make it about theprocess, the experience as
you're going along.
I think you will find so muchmore fulfillment.
(25:10):
In those moments when you doachieve the success and then
number five, The ripple effectthat you create because you are
chasing your goals, ripples outto others and allows others to
pursue and chase their goals andachieve their dreams too.
So I think this was such anincredible event.
(25:30):
Uh, like I said, It it's, it'sfascinating to me.
What, what transpired and.
It's just really inspirationalto me, even though I knew
nothing about it.
Really going into it yesterday.
But it really is inspiring tome.
And.
Is a huge reminder that.
(25:53):
I can chase my dreams.
I can chase my goals.
And I can catch them.
If I keep pursuing them.
So I want to encourage you guystoday, keep chasing after those
dreams and whatever you thinkabout you can bring about our
you guys until next week.
