Donna Eade (00:00):
You're listening to
the Mindset in Action podcast,
the place to be to grow andstreamline your business.
I'm your host, donna Eade.
Let's jump into the show.
The only time you should everlook back is to see how far
(00:20):
you've come.
Bangtang Boys butterfly.
Welcome back to the podcast, everybody for the final podcast
of the year.
No, you don't need to checkyour diaries.
I know that this is earlier thananticipated.
(00:41):
For those of you who havelistened for a long time, you
know that every Christmas I taketwo weeks off because I believe
that we should all be spendingtime with our families and we
all need a break.
So I do take two weeks off overChristmas and I have said
before you know it doesn'treally matter if I'm batching my
podcast episodes etc.
I could continue over theChristmas period, but I feel
(01:02):
like everybody should be withtheir families doing family
things and not listening tobusiness podcasts, and I don't
want you to feel that you've gotFOMO, missing out on two
episodes over the Christmasperiod and then feeling that
you've got to try and find timefor them in January.
So I take a break, you take abreak and we all come back
bigger and better next year.
So this year is slightlydifferent.
(01:24):
I am actually taking a extendedsabbatical from the podcast and
I will be back on the 9th ofJanuary.
So it's almost a month we'regoing to be taking off and I am
starting the year with a guestepisode.
We are talking to a wonderfullady called Cam and we're going
to be talking about accounting.
(01:46):
Now don't, don't not come backfor the new year.
Because I said the wordaccounting?
Because it follows on from thefantastic episode we had with
diane watson where we weretalking about personal finance.
I brought cam in to talk about, you know, the biggest mistakes
that she sees with people whenit comes to their accounts and
how we can all get reallyoverwhelmed with it, and she is
(02:07):
here to help us make it simple.
So come and join me for thatepisode on the 9th of January.
So back to today.
What are we doing to end out theyear?
Normally I would be doing myend of quarter goal setting
review and obviously bringingthat into the year as a whole,
(02:27):
but you know by now that I don'tsee December as my new year
start.
End of that's April for me.
So I'm not going to do thatthis time.
What I'm going to do is I'mgoing to save my goal setting
review for that second episodein January, so it will be coming
out a little bit later towardsthe end of January for that
(02:49):
quarter because I actually needto take some time to sit and
think for myself what is it thatI want to do, to reflect back
and, even though I don't like todo a full year like oh my gosh,
start to plan.
I feel like it's inevitable.
I feel like it is ingrained inus to do it, even though I feel
much better about starting anewin April.
(03:11):
But to me it's almost like I dothis every quarter.
I sit and I look back and I gowhere do I want to be?
What do I want to do?
Okay, we're going to go forward.
So it's almost like I don'thave a new year, I just have
these quarterly goal settingsthat I do and it's just a
rolling thing.
So I will be taking a bit of anextended break, sitting down,
(03:32):
really looking at what I've beendoing with the podcast, what
I've been doing in terms of thebusiness, how things have been
running for the last quarter.
As most of you know, I starteda part-time job in September,
which is a 15 hour a week roleand that has been really busy
actually over this last part ofthe quarter.
(03:54):
With Christmas coming up, it'sbeen a very busy time in the
business, so it's been a lot tojuggle and I feel like I just
need to kind of take a breath.
So we're actually finishingwith that part-time job quite
early in December in comparisonto most people, and I am looking
at sort of wrapping up mybusiness stuff fairly in par
(04:19):
with that, so that I've got moretime to sort of sit down and
really hone in on these goals,on what I want to do going
forward.
So we will come back to that inJanuary, I promise.
But that doesn't stop you fromhaving a check on your goals and
looking at what you have seen.
Especially if you are an annualplanner, then this is the
(04:41):
perfect time to sort of sit back, reflect what have I done this
year and what do I need to dogoing forward.
And I loved that quote at thebeginning because when I looked
at quotes for looking back, Iwas just like looking back
quotes and they all said don'tlook back or, you know, don't
call the past.
It's got nothing new to say allthese kind of things, and I
(05:03):
think that is an important thingto remember is the past is gone
, it's done.
It's what we do now, goingforward.
That's important, and reallyit's what we're doing now in the
present.
That's important becausenothing is guaranteed in life,
as we know.
So it is really important toremember that.
The past is where it is for areason.
We can learn from it and we canmove on, but we don't need to
(05:28):
keep talking to it.
So have a look what have youdone this year?
What were your goals at thebeginning of the year?
Now I'm sitting here looking atmy beautiful what's it called?
Oh, my God, my mind just wentblank.
It's my vision board.
Looking at my vision board andseeing that I have actually
managed to tick things off, andI don't think I've ever done
(05:50):
that.
There are some things on therethat haven't been ticked off and
I really need to actually sitdown and think about if those
are actually things that I wantor just things that I think I
should be having, because thatmight help.
And yeah, there were somethings that I didn't get ticked
off on there, which does make mesad, like I didn't get on an
(06:12):
aeroplane this year and I reallywanted to.
That could have happened at theend of this year, but then we
had that huge storm where myhouse started to leak water and
we needed to buy new windows, sothat was a little bit of where
my travel money went to.
New windows was not on myvision board, but we move Anyway
(06:35):
.
So do have a look at your visionboard, look at your goals, look
at what you set out to do thisyear and write down then what
you did do, because oftentimes Ithink we look at our goals and
if we didn't achieve those goals, we think we failed on the year
, but what we often forget iswhat we actually did do, and
there is so much that we do do.
(06:56):
Life pulls us off track oftenand we have to consistently
bring ourselves back to thosemain goals, but sometimes life
has a plan of its own and we endup on a completely different
path and we complete many moredifferent things than what our
goal setting said and we don'tactually celebrate those because
(07:16):
those weren't the goals that wewrote down at the beginning.
So please, please, celebrateall of your wins and
achievements over the course ofthis year and have a drink for
me at Christmas to celebrate.
So I actually won a silver atthe Shining Star Awards this
year for Business WomenUnlimited, so I was really proud
(07:37):
of that.
I've entered for the last fiveyears and I have five trophies
three silvers and two golds andto me this award ceremony is
really about that reflection onwhat the past year has been.
What have I achieved, what haveI done.
And getting a trophy tocelebrate really does make me
(07:58):
smile.
So if you are interested inentering an award that is free
to enter, then come and join mefor my Business Women Unlimited
online meetings, which are heldgenerally on the third Tuesday
of the month.
But you can go tobusinesswomenunlimitedcouk
(08:19):
businesswomenunlimitedcouk andall of the events are there.
So if there is an in-person onelocal to you, feel free to go
along to that.
You get mine as a bonus then.
But if you don't, then you cancome to my online meeting and as
long as you've been to threemeetings before the awards kick
(08:39):
off, so in the 12 months beforethe awards, then you get get to
enter, and the next Shining StarAwards is going to be held in
the summer of 2026.
So come along, join me.
My last one of the year is the17th of December and that is
going to be a Christmas quiz andbreakout room networking.
(09:02):
So if you are interested incoming along to that, then go
along to the website and book it.
I'll leave it in the show notesfor you.
But that is a great awards.
It's free to enter.
You just have to come to thosethree meetings and so it's a
great way to reflect on yourbusiness and obviously you get
to get together with amazingbusiness women to celebrate your
business when it comes to theShining Star Awards being given
(09:25):
out.
So that is my little hurrah forthe end of the year, which I
was really, really pleased about.
What I wanted to do in today'sepisode was something that I've
done before, which is look backat like the top episodes of the
year and that I really enjoydoing and looking back again.
Is that looking back, reflecting what are the things
(09:46):
that you've really enjoyedlistening to this year, and I'm
going to share those with younow.
So the first one, which isactually now my all-time most
listened to episode, is episode185.
Episode 185 was calledOvercoming the Fear of Judgment
(10:06):
to Empower Business Growth, andit was part of my mini mindset
series that happened and thatwas episode one.
I think there was four in thatseries.
So you can go back and listento that.
It's episode 185.
And if I just look at theepisode details, it says, yeah,
(10:38):
is it time to push past thatfear and embrace growth.
So that is what we are lookingat in that episode.
Really great episode to have alisten to.
It's a shorty, it's only sevenminutes and it is part of that
mini series.
So there are other shortepisodes to listen to if you
wanna listen to those as well.
(11:00):
So that was episode 185.
Now let's have a little look atthe other episodes.
The next episode was episode163.
So episode 163, I'm just tryingto scroll down to it while I'm
talking to you.
Episode 163 was called.
(11:20):
So it was called setting thestage for success, tips for
crafting a remarkableintroduction and dodging common
missteps.
So this was a really, reallyfantastic episode and it was
with the lovely Grace Fogarty.
So if you want to take a listento that, she was talking all
(11:41):
about how we show up forourselves and looking at the
common missteps that people makewhen it comes to their first
impressions.
So first impressions, as weknow, are really, really
important and Grace is all aboutshowing up with confidence and
really introducing yourself in apowerful way where you can be
remembered.
So great episode to listen toGo ahead and take a listen.
(12:06):
That is episode 163 with Grace, and that was a nice long
episode, 46 minute episode thatone and that was number two on
this year's downloads.
So let's go back and have a lookat the others.
So number three on my list andI'm just doing the top five is
(12:30):
episode 153, overcoming BusinessChallenges the Dawn of a New
Era.
Now, this was an episode that Ihad done something slightly
different, and what I did was Iasked some people to give me
some of their tips on, you know, things that they had struggled
(12:52):
with in their business, and so Ihad Michelle Kuklinski, lisa
Baptiste, debbie Stewart andCarly will share on the show.
I also went through my businessjourney what it looked like,
tips for new business owners onthings to avoid and things that
you can improve on, and thoseguests shared as well.
(13:16):
So, even though social mediamight not have you believe
you're the only one struggling.
I wanted to show you that weall struggle at different times,
and so I shared pretty openlyand honestly in that episode and
had some ladies share with meas well.
So that's a great,inspirational episode to take a
listen to.
(13:36):
If you want to go back andlisten to that one, it was
episode 153, overcoming BusinessChallenges.
Episode 153, overcomingBusiness Challenges the Dawn of
a New Era.
The next episode was episode158.
So it's all quite closetogether and you've got to
remember, guys, that the currentepisodes that have just gone
out obviously have lessdownloads because they've been
(13:57):
up for less time.
So all of these are going to bemore like a year or more old
because of the fact that youknow they've been up longer and
therefore people have listenedto it.
The wonderful thing aboutpodcasting is that people will
go back and listen to oldepisodes.
So the downloads for pastepisodes is always going up, so
they're always likely to havemore downloads than episodes
(14:19):
that are only a week or two old.
So the episodes that have comeout in the last sort of two,
three months you'll probably seesome of those episodes in next
year's top five and things likethat.
So it's no surprise to me thatthese are older episodes, but
really powerful, reallyimportant episodes to listen to.
(14:40):
So Mastering Marketing Strategythe Power of Consistent Weekly
Content episode 158.
So let's have a look at this.
It is Mastering Marketing thePower of Consistent Weekly
Content, so it says.
Are you ready to ramp up yourmarketing game and accelerate
(15:03):
your business growth?
We have got the perfect episodefor you.
Join me as we dive into theessential role of weekly content
in your marketing strategy.
We'll unpack the potency ofconsistency and the magic of
evergreen content, regularlyupdated to keep it fresh and
relevant.
Harness the power of awell-planned schedule, building
(15:30):
audience engagement and fuelingyour business expansion like
never before Now.
I have spoken on this podcast anumber of times about the
importance of weekly content, inmy view, so a great one to
listen to if you are interestedin what weekly content looks
like and how you can utilize itand how that impacts your
business.
So that was actually one with aguest.
(15:51):
This was Emma Louise Fellows, who came on to my podcast, so
(16:17):
let me just open this one up.
Emma Louise came on to talkabout her journey from like
transforming from a job that isseen as such a good job.
She was a lawyer a really goodjob, really good income and then
she transitioned into wellnessand she spoke about her journey
(16:39):
to that and what happened, and Ithink it is a story that a lot
of people can relate to that.
I certainly have come to relateto even more in the last few
months with my health journeyI've spoken about it briefly on
the show a few times where I'vebeen having tests done and we've
been looking at things andrealising that actually my body
(17:02):
has kind of been in a completeshutdown and has therefore not
been functioning as it should, but functioning like almost
overcompensating for that interms of sort of letting me live
a life but not really giving methat energy, that spark that we
(17:22):
should be having, or you know, there's no ups and downs, it's
just very monotone my life so,yeah, I don't get those low lows
, but I don't really get thehigh highs either.
It's just very monotone my life.
So, yeah, I don't get those lowlows, but I don't really get
the high highs either.
It's just all a bit blah in myworld.
So I can really relate to thisstory where Emma was having
issues with her health that ledher to her medicinal side, where
(17:43):
she now helps other people toreally work with their health to
bring them to a better balanceinside, and I loved this episode
(18:04):
.
So if you want to go and listento it, it's episode 165 will be
linked in the show notes andthe little blurb bit says ever
found yourself stuck in thehandster wheel of life, always
on the move but somehow feelinglike you're going nowhere?
Take a leaf out of emma louisefellow's book, a former lawyer
turned medical herbalist whoadvocates for holistic health.
(18:26):
We explore her fascinatingjourney from high stress legal
career to the world of naturalhealing with eat what live
wellness.
So if you want to go and listento that one, I highly recommend
it.
Great listen.
I will link that one in theshow notes.
So that is our five episodes andI'll just give you a quick
(18:47):
rundown.
It was episode 185, overcomingFear of Judgment.
Episode 163, creating thatAwesome Introduction Setting
Yourself Up for Success.
Episode 153, overcomingBusiness Challenges the Dawn of
a New Era.
Episode 158, mastering yourMarketing Strategy the Power of
(19:08):
Consistent Content.
And then episode 165, embracingVitality with Emma Louise
follows from law to wellness.
So those are some episodes thatif you haven't heard them or if
you want to re-listen to them, those would be great episodes to
listen to between now and thenew year when my new episode
(19:29):
comes out.
So you could definitely listento one or two of those a week
over the Christmas break, especially as I'm giving you an
extended break.
You can almost listen to thoseone a week and then you will be
caught up to date.
So one of the things that I didwant to tell you before we
close out this episode is that Iwill be going back to one
(19:50):
episode a week, so there will beno mini mindset Monday anymore.
We are going straight back toThursdays only.
You are still going to get themini mindset.
It's just going to be includedin that main episode, having
reviewed it and this is what Ialways do, and I tell you guys
to do as well is to reviewthings and adjust as necessary.
(20:13):
It was a lot of extra effort onmy part to create the blog post,
to schedule the blog post, toschedule the episode, to edit
the episode separately.
So putting the outro and introon both episodes a week
separately, so putting the outroand intro on both episodes a
(20:34):
week it was doubling my workload, even though the episode was
shorter.
It just meant that the editingof the episode didn't take me as
long.
But everything else putting theintro, outro on takes the same
time for both.
Doing the blog post takes thesame time for both.
So all of the other things tookthe same time and I really
didn't feel like it has helpedmy podcast grow in the way that
(20:55):
I hoped it would for this year.
It was an idea of mine that ifpeople could get hooked in on a
shorter episode, that they wouldwant to come back and listen to
the longer episodes and thatwould bring more listeners in
who perhaps aren't used tolistening to longer episodes.
But it hasn't really seemedthat that has worked in that way
(21:17):
from the stats, so the statshaven't really made a big
difference this year compared tolast year.
So I am going to go back to myonce a week tried and tested
true blue tested once a weekepisode.
It will probably be slightlylonger because I am going to be
(21:38):
adding in that 10 minutes, sothey will be 40 to 50 minute
episodes.
I'm really excited about itjust because it gives me that
time back that enables me tomake sure that I am making the
best of the episodes that I'mputting out there.
The other thing that I am goingto announce is that I am going
(22:02):
to be quote unquote leavingInstagram Something that I've
alluded to over this year acouple of times looking at
potentially coming away from theplatform.
I really enjoy the platformpersonally, but I don't feel
that it actually brings me anybenefit business wise.
Now I will probably still besharing stories, sharing my
(22:23):
podcast in my stories, but I'mnot going to hold myself
accountable to posting on mywall.
So what you will see coming upover the next couple of weeks is
a nine grid that you will beable to click on and find out
lots of information about me andwhere you can find me, which
will be my website or LinkedInand all of the stuff that I do
(22:46):
in my business.
It will all be there in a nicenine up grid that will look
pretty on the front cover andthen I will be in the stories
only from that point, and we'regoing to see how that goes.
You know, I might change it, Imight decide that that's not
working for me, I might decideto come back to it at some point
(23:08):
, but for me right now, I needto streamline my processes and I
want to focus on LinkedIn and Iwant to lessen the cognitive
load of social media for me.
So make sure you are followingthis podcast wherever you are
(23:29):
listening so that you can stayin touch with me.
There is a text to me buttonunder this podcast episode where
you can actually send me amessage and communicate with me.
I am absolutely happy for youto do that.
It would be great to hear fromyou.
Let me know what your thoughtsare on these changes that I'm
making.
Let me know what your favouriteepisode this year has been and
(23:51):
make sure that you're connectedwith me over on LinkedIn if you
would like to be sociallyconnected with me.
Still and yeah, that is it fortoday's episode.
I am so grateful and sothankful for you listening.
If you've listened at any otherpoint in the year, if you are a
(24:12):
continual listener and havebeen with me since the beginning
.
Thank you so much for yourcompany this year on the podcast
.
I am really excited to comeback bigger and better next year
with more podcast interviewsand more fantastic episodes for
you to listen to to help yougrow and streamline your
(24:33):
business.
One final thing before I gotoday is my masterclass the five
power pillars of podcastingmasterclass.
So if you go to DonnaEdecomforward slash five power pillars
, you can still sign up for theclass and get your link for Zoom
.
It's at 1pm today as this isreleased, so if you are
(24:54):
listening after Thursday, youwon't be able to get in on this
one, but listen out to thecontent at the beginning of the
podcast, because it will change.
It will tell you exactly whatis going on this month as you're
listening to it, in terms ofgetting into one of my master
(25:14):
classes or one of my challenges.
So listen out for that and Ihope to see you on one of those
soon.
And other than that, have a very, very merry Christmas.
I wish you health and wealthand prosperity for 2025.
I really hope that you get tospend time with your loved ones
this Christmas and just holdthem tight, because it is an
(25:37):
absolute, not a guarantee, thatyou get to do that, and there's
so many people out there thatfind this time of year really,
really tough.
If you are one of those people,I am sending you a massive,
massive hug, my friend.
But, yeah, do give your lovedones a hug and a squeeze and,
until next time, have a very, very merry Christmas.
(25:58):
Bye for now.
