Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're listening to the Mindset in Action podcast,
the place to be to grow andstreamline your business.
I'm your host, donna Eade.
Let's jump into the show.
Welcome back to the podcast, everybody, I am so glad to have

(00:21):
you here today for this episode.
Now we are sneaking very, veryclose.
In fact, it's nine days untilthis podcast officially turns
five years old.
Eek, I can't quite believe it.
So today I actually wanted to doa bit of reflection because my

(00:43):
event happened on Thursday and Iwanted to talk to you a little
bit about that and, yeah, fillyou in on the details if you
weren't able to come and join us.
So we met in Wellingborough atthe Castle Theatre, which is our
local community theatrelocation here in Wellingborough,

(01:05):
and it was a glorious sunny day, which I felt a little bit
gutted about, because the lastthing you want to do when it is
gloriously sunny outside is sitin a black box with no windows
on the inside, so that was alittle bit of a shame.
However, we did get outside forlunch, we were able to go and

(01:27):
stretch our legs during thebreak and things like that, and
anybody who had to travel anylength of time got a beautiful,
beautiful drive up toWellingborough or down to
Wellingborough and back homeagain.
So I am glad that peopleactually got to enjoy being out
there, because I don't knowabout everybody who came, but if

(01:48):
I hadn't been there on that day, it is likely that I would not
have seen as much of thesunshine as I actually did,
because I tend to come into myoffice, which is, as I have
probably said before on thepodcast, it faces north, so it
doesn't get any sunshine untilthe very, very last point of the

(02:10):
day.
So wherever it sits, the sun isjust about coming around to the
front right now, and it's halfpast four, nearly in the
afternoon, so I can't see thesun in my window.
I can see it on my neighbor'shouses across the road, but it
will sort of come around alittle bit and, and just before

(02:30):
it sets, I'll be able to see itfrom the corner of my uh office
window.
So that is what I'm looking atwhen it it comes to the sunshine
.
Um, so I don't feel thesunshine when I'm working and I
will sit in here and I will workall day long without taking a
break, particularly, I'll go andmake my cups of tea, I'll go

(02:52):
into the kitchen and it'll feellike a tropical heat wave in
there.
And then I come back in myoffice and I'm freezing cold and
I want to put the radiator on.
It's a little bit crazy.
However, I might go out for awalk, but that's usually about a
10, 20 minute walk, so Iprobably saw more sunshine on
Thursday than I would normallysee on a Thursday, so I was very
grateful for that.
Some big thank yous that I needto put out on the podcast for

(03:16):
this was to say thank you to mysponsors.
So the first sponsor I wantedto thank was Becky Kerr
Photography.
She did an amazing, amazing jobon the day of taking photos for
the event as well, which wasamazing.
So some of those have gone outon my social media today, so do
look out for those.

(03:36):
And then she also sponsored theevent.
So if if we hadn't had thesponsors, the event wouldn't
have been able to go ahead.
So I am so, so grateful toeverybody who sponsored.
But Becky is a brandphotographer.
She does a lot of commercialsort of events and things like
that.
She's fantastic.
And she also works with one ofmy speakers, janine Coney, and

(03:59):
they are doing a day very soon.
Definitely check out I knowit's on Janine's I'm pretty sure
it's on Becky's as well ontheir Instagram, where they are
pulling together their expertiseand producing photography for
you.
That is really going to enhanceyou and your brand.
So Janine talks all aboutvisibility and all about brand

(04:22):
strategy and she's really, really good at what she does.
So the two of them together area powerhouse effect and they
are doing a day in May that youcan have them for the whole day.
I think there's sort of six ofyou that are going to be there
for the day.
It's going to be fantastic.
So I will leave a link in theshow notes for you to go and
check that out as well.
But thank you to Becky forsponsoring the event.

(04:44):
The next sponsor is BusinessWomen Unlimited.
Business Women Unlimited hasbeen such a game changer for me
in my business.
I don't think I would be sathere without the ladies in that
community.
So thank you, debbie Gilbert, for all of your support and help
on the day and also over theyears, because it has been

(05:08):
incredible.
I have loved being part ofBusiness Women Unlimited.
For those of you who don't know,I run the online meeting for
Business Women Unlimited, whichis on usually the third Tuesday
of the month.
So if you go tobusinesswomenunlimitedcouk, you
can see all of the events thereand all of the online ones I
host.
So if you want tobusinesswomenunlimitedcouk, you
can see all of the events thereand all of the online ones I
host.
So if you want to come andspend some time with me outside

(05:30):
of listening to the podcast andother events that go on that I
might be at, you can come andjoin me every month on that
network meeting.
So I will leave a link to thatin the show notes as well.
A link to that in the shownotes as well.
Debbie also runs the BestBusiness Women Awards, which is

(05:50):
a fantastic way to recognisewomen in our area in
entrepreneurship, and theycelebrated 10 years last year
and I do believe thatapplications are open for this
year's event.
So if you have a business andyou are a woman, there be a
category for you.
Go and find your category, enter the awards, because this
is a really prestigious awardsand it can do you so much good

(06:11):
to have that PR around an awardfinalist entry or a win.
So definitely go and check thatout.
She also has a podcast, theawards show.
I'll link that in the shownotes as well.
And then the next sponsor Iwanted to say thank you to was
Val Addaway.
She is a utility warehouserepresentative and she sponsored

(06:32):
the event under her UW hat.
Uw, for those of you who don'tknow, is a utility organisation
that brings sort of all yourutilities under one roof to save
you money, brings sort of allyour utilities under one roof to
save you money.
So I actually have my gas andelectric with them at the moment
, but you can also get yourbroadband and your mobile phone
with them.
And if you have all of yourutilities with them, that's when

(06:54):
the savings really sort of kickin.
And you can also get a cashbackcard with them.
So you just load up the card, spend it on your weekly shopping
and stuff and you get money offof your bill that way as well.
So it's a really good way ofutilising your spending to save
you money on your bills.
So I will leave a link to Valin the show notes as well.

(07:16):
So thank you for sponsoring theevent.
Val that I want to mention isJenny Donato, who was
unfortunately unable to come andjoin us for the event because
it was her daughter's birthdayon that day.
And if I am a believer inanything, I am a believer that
we run our businesses so that wecan be there for the important

(07:38):
occasions.
So it was absolutely right thatshe did not come to my event
and that she was there for herdaughter's birthday, because
that is why women, especiallymothers, do this kind of thing
is so that they can be there fortheir children, so they can go
to the school plays, so thatthey can go to the Christmas
carol concert, so they can go toevents and sports days and all

(08:01):
of that jazz and especiallytheir birthdays be there for
their birthdays.
Because if you're in, you wouldhave to book a day's holiday to
do that, but if you're inbusiness, you can just shovel
your business stuff around.
So I really appreciated thatshe couldn't be there, but I am
so, so grateful that shesponsored and she sponsored with
her business at the AltitudeExperience.

(08:23):
Now, the Altitude Experience issomething that I wholeheartedly
believe in.
It is a fantastic way ofgrowing your business.
She basically works with around30 coaches and mentors I am one
of them to help business ownersto find the gaps in their
business, the biggest wins thatthey can get, and locate a coach

(08:46):
or a mentor that is going to beable to guide them in that
section and help them to moveforward with it, and she's had
some fantastic return oninvestments with that over the
last couple of years.
The team has got stronger.
It's going to be absolutely afantastic experience.
If you choose to go through it,there is a free discovery call.

(09:08):
So if you wanted to find outmore about how you can join the
program, what it actually lookslike, how you're able to access
all of the coaches because it'snot just one or two coaches you
get to work with you get accessto all of the coaches through
the platform.
There is sort of three focusedcoaches that you work with.
You get access to all of thecoaches through the platform.
There is sort of three focusedcoaches that you work with as

(09:28):
part of your program, but thenyou get access to other coaches
as well in other ways.
So it is well worth a call tosee if it is something that
would suit you, especially ifyou are stuck in business or you
are just on the beginnings ofbusiness.
One of the things that I wish Ihad had when I started out was
somebody to guide me to what Ineeded to do to set my business

(09:53):
up correctly in terms of whatdid I need to focus on?
What is a sales funnel, likeyou know?
Give me all of the basics andshow me what I need to do.
And I didn't really have that.
So I was swept up as a lot ofus are, in the marketing of all
these big entrepreneurs thatsaid, if you just do this,

(10:14):
you'll be, you know, earning 10ka month.
If you just do this, you couldhave a hundred thousand dollar
launch if you just do this.
And and I did this I went hereand I tried that and it didn't
work.
And I went here and I triedthat and it didn't work.
And I went here and I triedthat and it didn't work.
And if I had just had somebodywho would have been able to say,
look, what is it that you wantto do?
Because I was trying to do whateverybody else wanted me to do

(10:37):
and I wasn't looking at what Iwanted to do.
What do you want to do and howcan we make that happen?
That is what Jenny can help youwith.
That is what the altitudeexperience can help you with.
So, if you are interested inthat, I will leave the strategy
call down below for you to clickon as well.
Make sure that you let her knowthat I sent you over on the

(10:57):
form that you fill in and, yeah,I hope that I might see some of
you over there because it's afantastic program.
So that was all of my sponsorsand I would be remiss if I did
not also thank my speakers, because they were phenomenal.
So the day started out with mebeing absolutely a nervous wreck
, running around like a blue ass, what's it and I love the way

(11:21):
that I said what's it instead offly, and I did the swearing bit
.
But never mind, that is kind ofwhat it was like on Thursday
morning in my house.
We got up, we got dressed, weran around, shoved things in
cars and we arrived at thecastle and the door was locked.
So there was our first hurdle.
But luckily somebody camerather quickly and we were able

(11:42):
to get into the space that westarted to set up.
My other half started to do allthe tech stuff, make sure that
we could record the event.
So that's a little hint for youof what's to come.
But we also then started towelcome in our guests.
So Debbie and Diane turned upand Debbie bless was my head

(12:04):
registration chief and made surethat everybody was signed in
and got a goodie bag.
Diane Watson was one of myspeakers.
So they arrived.
Janine arrived, andrea arrived.
It was fantastic.
Everybody started arriving.
We only had one no show and shedid, bless her, message me and
let me know that she wasn'tgoing to be able to make it,

(12:24):
which was such a shame, but itwas fantastic to get a 99.999%
show up rate.
That was really fantastic.
And all my speakers turned up,which was good, because one of
them had me heart palpitating alittle bit.
So we had First up.
We had Nicola Tonsaga, who isthe podcast host of being Soul

(12:51):
Confident.
She has a book called beingSoul Confident and she is the
founder of the Soul Signaturesand she is all about aligning
yourself with your true purpose, and your purpose can change
people.
So that is what I kind of tookaway from our conversation

(13:11):
together is it wasn't aboutfinding the one thing that
you're going to do, heading downthat path and never deviating
from it.
It was going with what is rightright at this moment and being
happy and willing to makechanges down the line when that
purpose may well shift.
So that was a really goodtakeaway from that conversation.
Then I had the extremelyphenomenal Andrea Rainsford talk

(13:37):
to us about planning and whatthat means to her, and she told
us a bit of her story and why itis so important for her to plan
.
And she spoke about just notnot dealing with other people's
issues.
You know their issues are theirissues.
If they're hung up, that theycan't get hold of you at a

(13:58):
certain time, that's theirproblem, not your problem, and
that you have to have reallystrong boundaries.
But the biggest thing that cameout of it for me is knowing
what your why is, because if youdon't really know why you're
doing something, then you'renever going to make it happen.
So for her she works two days aweek and that might not work for
you.

(14:18):
You might want to work morethan that.
You might sit there thinking,oh my gosh, I don't know what I
would do with five days thatweren't working for me.
But if you had a strong enoughwhy as to why you wanted to only
work two days, then you couldmake it happen as long as you
planned.
Well, but if you haven't got astrong enough why, there's

(14:39):
always going to be somethingthat pulls you back into the
office.
There's always going to besomething that is going to creep
into that time when you're notsupposed to be working.
So you need to reallyunderstand why you want to set
up your business the way you do.
What is it that it's going togive you if you do it that way?
So for me, I try not to work onFridays.

(15:01):
It doesn't always happen, especially now I've got the
part-time role that I do as well.
It is a bit of a bit more giveand take with Friday.
However, when I do keep it free, I make sure that I am
completely offline, and so if Ihave to pop on on the weekend, I
don't feel so bad because Ihave had that Friday free.
I would love to have a moresolid four-day week.

(15:26):
However, I don't have thebiggest why for it at the moment
because my partner works Mondayto Friday.
So having that extra day offdoesn't give us more time to do
stuff because he's not around.
So it's nice in the fact thatif I've got something to do, I
can go and do that on my own andI'm not missing out on time

(15:48):
with him.
But it's, it's one of thosethings.
It's a bit more give and take.
So it's not a strong enoughreason at the moment for me to
make it a solid boundary, butI'm okay with that and that's
what it is.
Really understanding your whereyou're okay with letting go of
that boundary a little bit andwhere you need to make sure that
it is actually solid.

(16:09):
So for Andrea, it's a healththing for her.
She's going to make sure thatshe only works that time because
her health depends on herhaving enough downtime, enough
relaxation, enough time to gofor walks, et cetera, and that
is what works best for her.
So we had a great conversationall around that.
Then we had the wonderful CherylLadlaw come and talk to us

(16:32):
about AI.
It was a really interestingconversation because so many
people use AI every day anddon't even realise they're using
it, or they are absolutelyterrified of chat and Gemini and
all of those other ones anddon't know where to even start
with it.
So we had a bit of aconversation around that and I

(16:52):
was really excited by thepossibility of upgrading my chat
to be able to have assistantsthat are dedicated to certain
tasks.
That will allow me to reducethe amount of prompting I need
to do.
So I can set it up to only dishout UK English.
I can set it up to only speakin my brand voice.

(17:15):
I can set it up to only befocused on writing emails in a
certain way or creating blogposts in a certain way, or
whatever it is, and that blew mymind.
I didn't realise that you couldhave these separate assistants
on the paid version, and thatblew my mind.
I didn't realize that you couldhave these separate assistants
on the paid version.
So that was really interesting.
Then we had Janine Coney.

(17:37):
Janine came on and spoke to usabout audience building.
Now Janine has over 10,000people on her Instagram, and so
you might well say that she isan influencer, and that was what
she was talking about.
She was talking about how shebuilt her audience and kind of
became an influencer, and thatwasn't her plan.

(17:58):
She also talked about notbuying followers and keeping it
organic, but how she, when sherealized that she was becoming
an influencer, which wasn't whatshe wanted to do, she actually
ended up losing a lot ofaudience members when she
started to actually talk aboutwhat she wanted to be talking
about, but she gained them back.

(18:18):
So we were talking about howyou can build your audience and
what you really need to focus onwhen it comes to audience
building.
So that was really interesting.
And then I spoke aboutpodcasting.
So I had a conversation withCatherine Chapman, who was one
of my students.
She is the host co-host, of theFar Too Fabulous podcast.

(18:39):
Unfortunately, her sidekick, julie, was unable to come up for
the event, but these thingshappen so she wasn't able to
make it up, but it would havebeen fantastic to have been
interviewed by both of them, Ihave to say.
But Catherine did an amazingjob.
She interviewed me, talkingabout my podcasting journey, why
podcasting is important forbusinesses and the difference

(19:02):
that it could make.
So we spoke a lot about that.
And then, finally, we had DianeWatson on stage, and this is
where we took a bit more of aserious turn.
I mean, to me the whole day wasserious.
If you are serious about yourbusiness, you take it all
seriously.
But Diane's got a very specialmission.
She is the founder of amovement called she Can Prosper.

(19:26):
She wrote the, the book she CanProsper.
You can download that.
I believe it is on my bookshelfif you want to go and check that
out and she wants women, especially, to be empowered and
secure in their finances, butnot just in their monetary sense

(19:47):
, but also in the sense ofhaving wills sorted.
So, in the event of a partner'sdeath, you're secure, you know
exactly where the money's goingand nobody can contest that or
they can, but they're not goingto get very far that you have
critical illness insurance, especially as an entrepreneur

(20:08):
and especially if you are asingle woman, because if you
can't work, what's going tohappen?
It's really important to havethese things in place,
insurances in place, because, yes, you might never need them
and let's hope you never do butwhat if you do and it happens to
more people than you wouldexpect?

(20:31):
In the last couple of weeks Ihave had come across my Facebook
page people that I am eitherconnected to or must be friends
of friends, two guys who've hadstrokes.
So, making sure that you havegot all of the necessary things

(20:55):
in place to make sure that youare protected and taken care of
in case of any eventuality, it'sjust so, so important.
And we all put these things offbecause we don't want to think
about death, we don't want tothink about potential critical
illnesses, we don't want tothink about diseases that may be
terminal.

(21:16):
We don't want to think aboutthat, and I understand that as
much as anybody else.
It's just not something't wantto think about that, and I
understand that as much asanybody else which it's just not
something you want to thinkabout.
But, um, think about it oncefor for a day or two, and get
all of that stuff sorted, andthen you never have to think
about it again because yourpremiums are going out
automatically and you don't haveto um, dwell on it, but make

(21:38):
sure that you are secure.
That's what I got out of myconversation with Diane.
So then there was just twoother topics that happened that
day, and I was just so, sopleased that I asked these
ladies to come, because I thinkit really did do exactly what I
said, which was round out theday nicely.

(21:59):
We had a beautiful breathworksession with Catherine Chapman.
She is Pilates teacher, she isthe founder of Vitality Rooms
and she is a breathworkinstructor, and those are just a
few strings to her bow.
She has many others and she wasphenomenal.
It was so, so good.
She played Alicia Keys Good jobwhile we were doing this

(22:21):
breathwork, and I actually hadto stop because obviously I was.
I'm hosting the event.
I need to not be in a puddle oftears when we finished that, so
I had to stop doing thebreathwork because I could feel
myself getting emotional, and itwas just so, so, so powerful
for so many people in the room.
So that was beautiful.

(22:42):
And then Kat gave us a laughteryoga session.
And now when I say laughteryoga, a lot of people start
thinking how on earth am I gonnalaugh whilst I'm stood in
warrior two or something likethat.
It's not actual yoga poses.
The yoga part is the, thebreath work part of yoga is what
they pull into laughter yogaand and just laughing and just

(23:02):
enjoying the moment.
And it was so incredible.
And the reason that these twowomen have a very special place
in my heart is because of thework that they do, because they
are trying to fill everybody'slife with vitality and joy, and
why wouldn't you want more ofthat in your life?

(23:23):
These two wonderful souls arealso running the London Marathon
in a couple of weeks for twodifferent charities.
Catherine Chapman is runningfor meningitis now Due to a
family loss that they sufferedjust two years ago, where her
niece passed away frommeningitis at age just on her

(23:46):
20th birthday.
Absolutely devastating, and Iget goosebumps saying it and
it's very hard for me not to endup in a puddle of tears for her
and her family.
And yeah, they have raised anincredible amount for that
charity in the last two yearsand they are continuing that.
So I'm recording this, just asher husband should have finished

(24:08):
the Brighton marathon for theirteam today and she will be
doing the London marathon and hewill be doing the London
marathonathon as well, actuallyin a couple of weeks.
And Kat Gouge is running forBrain Research UK for her friend
who suffered a brain injury inthe middle of the Great North

(24:30):
Swim.
I think it was and, kat, youcan correct me if I'm wrong, but
it was in the middle of a swim.
She was literally in the seacompeting and she could have
drowned.
She could have died right thenand there they had to airlift
her to hospital.
She spent a long time inhospital and came home in
January, I believe.
So Kat is running for BrainResearch UK for her friend.

(24:54):
I will leave you links in theshow notes to donate to those
two charities.
We did a silent auction on theevent um to raise some money for
that.
I will be able to give you thetotal of that um next week, I
think um or the week after, andlet you know how much we raised

(25:14):
for them for that event.
But we had lovely donationsfrom Janine and Becky.
They donated one of theirspaces on that shoot day event
with the brand clarity event.
Trudy Avery, the logo lady, shedonated a brand clarity call.
I donated a podcast strategysession and then we had um.

(25:40):
Debbie gilbert donated linkedinum, course that she does, which
is so good.
It really shows you all of themagic that linkedin has that you
don't even realize.
You just think it's socialmedia.
You go on your post and youcome away.
You like people's comments andthings like that.
There is so much more available.
Um, and her three hour program.

(26:03):
Really, um goes through.
All of that is incredible.
So I want to say huge thank youto those people who donated
prizes to the auction.
Um, we, we, I hope, are goingto raise quite a good chunk of
money for those two ladiesrunning the marathon.
So there is a link down below.
If you do donate from clickingthe link in the show notes, then

(26:26):
please use the hashtag MALive25when you do your comments so
that they can see that you camefrom this podcast.
That would be amazing.
So that is it.
That was the day.
It was fantastic.
We had a beautiful afternoontea provided by Amy's Vintage

(26:46):
Teas, based in Northampton, andit was incredible.
They bought it all on beautifulvintage crockery cake stands
and plates crockery cake standsand plates and we had.
We had our lunch on thoselittle tea plates of all those
vintage crockery sets and thecakes were amazing.

(27:06):
The sandwiches were lovely.
The sausage rolls weresomething very special.
They were not your asda sausagerolls.
They were really beautiful andwhat they did was they did a
whole cake stand tray for ourgluten free attendee and they
did a couple of cake stands withthe dairy free options on as

(27:27):
well and labeled them for us,which was absolutely wonderful.
We also had birthday cake.
Like I told everybody I wouldbring birthday cake, I bought
two different types of vanillaand a chocolate and people were
allowed to take those home withtheir goodie bags, which went
down really really well.
So that was it.
It was a fantastic day.

(27:47):
I feel like I blinked and Imissed it.
My partner was absolutelyfantastic at doing all the tech
stuff for me on the day.
Wouldn't have been able to doit without him.
Absolutely fantastic and, yeah,I feel like I feel like I
blinked and I missed it.
