Donna Eade (00:00):
You're listening to
the Mindset in Action podcast,
the place to be to grow andstreamline your business.
I'm your host, Donna Eade.
Let's jump into the show.
Welcome back to the podcast,everybody.
For another mini Mindset Mondayepisode.
(00:22):
Viv is back in the house.
Welcome, Viv.
Hello, and today we are going tobe talking about time
management.
This is one that I like tothink of myself as a good
planner and a good person whenit comes to time management, but
I myself struggle with this.
One, which is why it is one ofthe core pillars of my podcast,
(00:44):
is productivity and planning, because it's something that I'm
always working on, Viv.
I've been seeing a lot on myYouTube feed recently people
talking about productivity notbeing something because you're
lazy, but actually being aresult of trauma, and I know
(01:04):
that obviously you do a lot ofmindset work and talking about
childhood trauma and things likethat.
So it really was something thatI kind of wanted to draw
attention to the fact that ifyou're struggling with your time
management, it isn'tnecessarily because you're just
bad at time management.
There could be a lot behindthat.
So I'm going to let you takeover and talk to us about our
(01:26):
time management and how we can,how we can get better at that
with our minds.
Vivienne Joy (01:31):
Yeah, this is the
subject, isn't it?
I mean this is you know, I wantmore hours in the day.
There's not enough hours in theday.
I'm too busy, I'm too stressed,I'm too rushed.
I hear this all the time.
So the basis of time managementcomes from.
It comes from promising toomuch.
If we over promise and we underdeliver, we get stressed about
(01:55):
it because we want to be best,we want to be seen as being
brilliant.
So what happens is people haveexpectations that are way too
high on themselves for timemanagement.
Like I look at some of my lifeand if I was to tell people what
I did in a day, they wouldprobably pass out with like
overwhelm.
But for me it's my normal.
But then if I put more into themix it gets more stressful.
And why do we do this?
(02:15):
Because we can't say no quite alot of the time.
So we don't like to say nobecause then we're selfish,
self-absorbed, or or peopledon't like us, like one of our
number one.
Most people's number one is tobe liked.
But also there's all sorts ofneuro-spicy conditions out there
which have time sensitivityattached to them, and there
(02:38):
definitely is stuff aroundtrauma and time.
But the way I look at traumaand time is around value and
self-worth and time.
But the way I look at traumaand time is around value and
self-worth.
So, um, most people arethinking about themselves from
other people's perspectives.
They're not thinking about whatthey really need.
So we could plan a diary and wedo.
The default diary is a realthing.
I've planned thousands of themin my time for myself and other
(03:00):
people, and I know myself as um,as a self-diagnosed ADHD person
, uh, that I can put a beautifuldefault diary default diary in
with all the things I thinkshould go in there, and then I
put it in a drawer and forgetall about it, and I'm sure
there's lots of people out theredoing the same.
What it really means is, mybrain knows I need to do all
(03:20):
those things, but the rest of meisn't really connected or even
compulsed to do those things.
Like, if something's reallyvaluable, we do it, if it's not,
we simply don't.
So this time management meansvalue management.
So I suggest you think of it ina different way, because if
it's valuable like you neverdon't pick the kids up to school
(03:40):
or brush your teeth or go tobed like these are really
valuable parts of our life.
You know, podcasting is areally big deal for you, not so
much for me.
If I miss two or three episodesin a podcast in two or three
months, I don't really care.
Nobody ever says to me wherewere you, whereas actually for
you it's your business.
Therefore, it's the mostimportant thing.
It's high value If they'restructured in.
Even come hell or high water, you are going to do it.
(04:03):
So the trick with timemanagement is value management
and call it that what isvaluable for me in my time, in
my day, in my week, what is mostvaluable and people don't
typically start from theiroutcome, they start from the
shit they've got to get done.
So it's not a case of the valueis oh, I need to build my
business, I need two moreclients this week, let's say it.
(04:26):
Say it's oh, I've got to fillin the tax return, I've got to
get that email over to so-and-sobecause they asked me for it.
Oh, I've got to take the kidshere, I've got to go shopping.
So actually we're not lookingat our goals, um, with regards
to time management, we'relooking at the stuff that is
well, not it's.
It's important, but it's gotthe most urgency to us because
somebody else is relying on us,whereas actually, when it's a
value based thing, it's for us,for our future, and future based
(04:50):
stuff doesn't have as muchvalue as now because now is
happening now.
So the way that I do timemanagement with clients is to
help them think about their, visualize their future self, and
I do a lot of this work and domore of it come December,
because their future self valuesthings that we don't value
right now, like your future self, who has I don't know 20,000
podcast viewers I don't know howmany you have.
(05:12):
She has a very different way ofthinking about her time and her
skills and her tasks than theone sitting here in front of me.
So this way we can avoidavoidance.
We can avoid lack ofproductivity in the right areas,
because we can be really busy, but busy and doing nothing can't
we?
I don't know about you, but Ican sit at my desk for two hours
.
I think I'm working.
(05:34):
I've checked facebook 28 times.
I'll probably put an instagrampost out.
I've checked my emails 12 timesbecause they've buzzed.
I've not really done anythingin those two hours um so
realistically.
It's not really about how it'snot being about productive.
It's productive about the rightthings to get in the right
levels of productivity.
So that's what I say on it,really, and if it is time
(05:54):
sensitive, leave some space intothe diary as well.
So the first thing is it's abit like when I plan my diary.
My diary is all planned out2025, by the way, completely
Natalie with the products I'mgoing to launch, with the
sessions I'm holding, withholidays.
I'm having everything.
So start with the sessions I'mholding with holidays.
I'm having everything.
So start with the mostimportant thing, which is me, my
holidays, my time, and I blockthat out.
And then I start with what'simportant for the business.
(06:16):
So I'll go into the values ofwhat I want to achieve for the
business, how many people I wantto serve, how I want to do it,
and I'll plan my diary and theneverything else sits in there
the actions to achieve thosegoals.
So people don't think aboutgoals when they're looking at
time management.
They look at productivity, theylook at getting shit done, but
actually the goals are the mostimportant thing.
Otherwise you're a busy fool,who's not?
Donna Eade (06:38):
feeling very
successful.
Yeah, I hear you Answer thequestion.
It does indeed.
It does indeed Brilliant.
Thank you very much for that.
So, viv, you just mentionedsomething's happening in
December, and we are at the endof November now, so can we, can
we have a sneak peek at what'shappening in December?
Vivienne Joy (06:54):
you can.
So, um, my mission is to geteverybody working from their
future self, because the futureself has got loads of, like I
was just saying, has got loadsand loads of ideas she knows
best, or he knows best whoever'slistening.
And so I'm running somethingcalled five to thrive.
Um, it's a short program, veryaffordable it's 25 quid, trying
to make these things affordableit's delivered to your inbox and
(07:20):
it's basically five minutes aday and I'll teach you the five
ways to get yourself into yourfuture self, to live your life
daily.
So that includes timemanagement and everything we
talk about really mindset,having communications,
relationships, how we build ourbusiness, how we dress, even
every part of us living from ourfuture self, because otherwise
we live from past versions andthose past versions are
typically not what we wantanymore.
Otherwise they would be nowversions.
So that's the long and short ofthe program.
(07:42):
