Now what's next, Next up?

Speaker 2 (00:04):
It's the next man up, next stop, the.

Speaker 1 (00:07):
Next step, take the next step.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Next up, stop, next, next up.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
This team wants to be next.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
This is Next Up with Tad Norfleeten Chris Gordy.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
Let's see what's next next next.

Speaker 4 (00:23):
There we go live from the Sports Talk seven ninety
studios Nelton in between Uptown Park and River Oaks. Welcome
the next up for the next two hours. Radio hosts.
That'd be me stand sportsman to my left, my radio partner,
co host of this fine program, Chris Gordy's also the
PD around here. There's Connedy mcgovernor. He's back from VAK
hanging out there. Rod behind the glass. Appreciate his contributions

(00:47):
as well. Gotta show some love to the Shawn Salisbury Show.
Each and every weekday morning six to ten am. We
get up, we hang out with the guys, get back
into our routine. As it is that time of year again.
Officially Week one of the NFL is here. Demko Ryans
took to the podium yesterday, Light walked through from the

(01:07):
guys on the Labor Day, and then Demico addressed we
would hear from Demico coming up sometime this hour or next.
Odds are out Texans at Coat's home team. I should
say the Texans, even though they're on the road, favored
by two and a half. Speaking of the home team,
Astros so weep the Royals over the weekend and then

(01:29):
head up to Cincinnati for a Labor Day afternoon game
yesterday afternoon, where they took an l still comfortably in
the lead, reasonably comfortably in the lead in the Al
Westmore of that to come. Also, Gordy, welcome back. You
were on a bit of vak. You went westward to

(01:49):
Sin City. I went Westwood as well, to a very
weird city. I was in Austin, you in Las Vegas.
And we both have an infinity for college football. Before
we get going, good morning to you. Uh, certainly we
would talk strolls, Texans, all the things I laid out there.
But let's uh kick off on how you labor the
weekend was?

Speaker 5 (02:09):
Yeah, it was everything leading up to the football game.
Son was, Oh, yeah, then that was that. Gee, man,
I feel bad for you.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
I did.

Speaker 4 (02:14):
I said, damn, going to travel a good distance and
spend some bread to see the Tigers come up a bit.

Speaker 5 (02:19):
So yeah, it's just it was all of those things
where like they the fans did their everybody did their part.
Environment looked good on television, it was. This was about
seventy thirty LSU fans made the trip. But yeah, just
they played like crap in the fourth quarter and a
bunch of three and outs and left the door open
for USC when they had a chance to put it away.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
And it is what it is.

Speaker 5 (02:43):
But yeah, Aggie's come up short over the weekend and
their fate they were favored at home againstunder.

Speaker 4 (02:49):
Got discussed that too. You know, I was in Austin
watch the horns. Horns look good, hot as but Jesus,
good god, I was told I was going sweat.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
So it was overcast.

Speaker 4 (03:00):
We get into town Friday evening, overcast, Saturday morning, overcast,
get over the dkall for a little Tailgaten overcast. Soon
as they kicked the ball off, my god, clouds clearing.
Oh my god. But it's a really cool thing. So
I'm glad I got a chance to check that off
the bucket list. You know how excited I was leading
up to that game.

Speaker 5 (03:21):
Since we could always say you were there when arch
Manning through his first career touchdown.

Speaker 4 (03:26):
Technically I had a seat. See I left at the half.
It was thirty one zip and uh, Monica's about to
pass out on the concourse because it was so hot.
Everybody was sweating there. You know what's on and so
the game wasn't in questioning they ran out of water. Yeah,
so Horns look good. Horns should be one of the
favorites to win the whole thing based on what I saw.

(03:47):
And we'll get into the minutia now that we're wet.
Two weeks officially, one week into the college football season.
All right, Connor, cut your mic on what the hell
did you do? I saw Missouri one. Missouri beat the bes
out of somebody. I saw that. All right, so your
weekend feel good? You're right, anything sports related you want
to acknowledge what we get rolling?

Speaker 1 (04:08):
I mean the astroswept throws. I was pretty good.

Speaker 6 (04:10):
Didn't do much of watch into the games because I
was up in Lake Livingston having college.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
Fans, but binging, that's what they call that. Young, Yeah,
a little bit.

Speaker 5 (04:19):
Hopefully you had you didn't have direct TV and you
were able to watch.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
Did you see that crap over this?

Speaker 4 (04:24):
I saw something pop up on my fee but I
did deep that switched to direct So give me the background.

Speaker 5 (04:30):
What happened Thursday night, an hour before kickoff of L
s U A b C or L s U U
s C Sunday night Sunday. Yes, they announced Direct TV
is in a dispute with Disney, so you do not
have ABC, ESPN, ESPN two, ESPN News, ESPN, U SEC Network.
All of them are blocked out currently. So like any

(04:53):
what was interesting was that you went to ESPN like
to watch ESPN app. You were able to stream it
through like three so my buddy goes, oh, I was
able to watch it that way. Well, then last night
for Florida State Boston College, they I guess figured it out.
You couldn't watch it. Oh, I found a stream on YouTube.
But get your crap together, direct TV. I saw so

(05:15):
many people pissed off, like right before the game, not
able to watch it.

Speaker 4 (05:18):
You gotta love carriage disputes. You know, since we hear,
let's spend some time here college football wise, you bring
up last night former Texans head coach Bill O'Brien in
his maiden voyage. Their Boston College is where he's now
the head coach.

Speaker 5 (05:35):
He's a damn good coach. Like I just I know
he got crap here. He won all the AFC South titles,
but he was a pretty good coach at Penn State
in his time there, and I think he's gonna do
a good job at Boston College with limited resources, not
a ten of nil money flowing. That's a hell of
a win for Bill O'Brien though, That is that's a

(05:55):
signature willing to go on the road in Tallahassee.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
What is steel? What was flat? They were?

Speaker 4 (06:00):
They still tenth in the country as of last night?

Speaker 5 (06:03):
Well they did, yeah, because they didn't. They hadn't done
the ranking since weeks zero.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
Week zero. They didn't change anything, gotcha?

Speaker 4 (06:09):
So you go on the road a ranked opponent nonetheless,
uh still a conference opponent. God bless you, Florida State.
We'll get to jeff Norvale here in just second, and
how the.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
As well? Call them jeff Norville? What I call Jeff
I don't know who that is.

Speaker 5 (06:25):
It's his name now because he doesn't get the respect
to Mike Oh. Two conference games already, this is That's
where I was going. So joy of the country hasn't
even played a conference.

Speaker 4 (06:33):
Aga, so literally, Florida State, who begin the year ranked
number ten in the country prior to playing Georgia Tech
in Dublin, Ireland a week ago. They now have a
one percent chance to make the college football playoffs the
rug because they are now zero and two. All right,
so that's that. But Bill O'Brien, former Texas head coach,
I happened to be watching that game last night with

(06:55):
a former Texan or two, and we were having some
Bill O'Brien discussed some things that won't see the light
of day on this radio station for now, nonetheless, But
all right, there's a college football Georgia molly WAPs Clemson
in the second half. I think that game was what
tied at the half, second half. Georgia jiz bolos them.

(07:16):
It looks to me like Georgia is the best team
in the country. I would probably have Texas, who came
in to this weekend ranked number fourth, I would have
them right there. Ohio State took care of business. There
were a lot of you know, ranked opponents that beat
the b Jesus out of very bad teams boh. But
over in aguland Eh, we wondered what the what that

(07:40):
maroon money, as some of my guys call it. We
wondered what they rise to the occasion. They're in college
station with Nor Dame coming in town.

Speaker 5 (07:50):
Give it a defense creditcause the defense flying around.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
They played their butts off offense.

Speaker 5 (07:55):
Colin Klin, welcome to the SEC and they I stole
why Like I would have done everything I could to
keep Bobby Patrino there. I know he left and went
back to Arkansas, but Bobby Petrino is the OC last year.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
Was actually was.

Speaker 5 (08:08):
Pretty good second and third string quarterbacks last year and
still producing. And you bring him Colin kleinb former Kansas
State quarterback. Oh, he was so good at Kansas State.
Yeah that's Kansas State. A little bit tougher at A
and M. And you're playing a good Notre Dame team
and Marcus Freeman hat tipped him. And I thought when
he got that job at Notre Dame, I was a
little skeptical. Remember he lost A Marshall right out of

(08:30):
the cat they wanted. I was like, this might be
a little bit too big leagues, because normally, like what
you started like a Cincinnati, you know, you have a
good three year run there, then you move up to
the bag. Like his first big head coaching job is
Notre Dame. I thought he was in over his head.
He's done a great job and a huge win for him.
I still think Gags are gonna be okay. But they
man Connor Wegman all the hype over here and Stanley

(08:51):
all offseas this kid, I mean, first round pick next year,
first round draft.

Speaker 1 (08:55):
I'm the first round draft. That what in the world.

Speaker 4 (08:58):
Yeah, I never saw that. So number twenty A and
m host number seven Notre Dame. Notre Dame gets a
ten point victory, and Notre Dame I think with that win,
that's the beauty of playing these games early. You get
a win like that on the books and then you
go play the rest of your schedule. But you want
to get stack those wins while you're healthy early in

(09:19):
the season. You know, have that in people's mind. Yeah,
it's almost like with the selection committee.

Speaker 5 (09:23):
With twelve teams getting in now, it almost becomes like
the college basketball selection committee. Right at the end of
the year, they're going back. Well that's a nice quote.
They had that nice non confidence.

Speaker 4 (09:32):
Theynnc at environment and they got it up. So happy
for Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame and their partial allegiance
to the ACC. Also, speaking of the ACC, I thought
the best performance of any player that I saw over
the weekend. Cam Ward and nineteenth ranked Miami going into

(09:54):
the swamp and cam Ward quarterback formerly of Washington State.
He went in there and win on an absolute tear.
I haven't seen Florida get their keys to kick like
that at home. They're already a long time. The odds
are already like billion Apier won't make it through.

Speaker 1 (10:10):
He came in with.

Speaker 4 (10:11):
The highest odds the likelihood of getting booted out of
the swamp. So yeah, that that's that. Forty one seventeen,
nineteenth ranked Miami. Cam Ward throws for three touchdowns and
many people were asking.

Speaker 1 (10:22):
Why how is cam Ward at Miami?

Speaker 4 (10:25):
Like, how did iom Ohio State not match whatever Miami
was doing?

Speaker 1 (10:29):
Nil wise?

Speaker 4 (10:30):
Wow, Ohio State's running out there with the old board
from k State.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (10:34):
Will Howard Yeah, And I was just like, eh, good lord,
oh Miss Virginia Cats to start off with the win, Yeah,
we get what We'll take that. Richmond whatever the Richmond Yeah,
so oh and then did we get to that last.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
Little better hell of a basketball game?

Speaker 4 (10:49):
So they played pretty much every year Richmond has won
the FCS National championship here recently so they've got a
decent program. I was gonna say to you as we
go to break and then we'll talk some astros on
their side. I was gonna say to you over the weekend,
Oh Deon Sanders. I don't know if you saw them
incount one since I've done the show.

Speaker 1 (11:05):
It was a nice one.

Speaker 5 (11:06):
Thursday. Travis Hana, he's good. He's gonna win, Hutsman, it's
gonna be tough. He's got you see what the Arizona
wide receiver, Arizona quarterback. When guys were really good, but
all the crap they take and some of are rightfully
so right with Dion, but that that was a good win.

Speaker 4 (11:25):
All right, Dota do it for the College Football Talk
to start the show since you out of town, and
I was, as well, we get that. We'll get to
that again probably in our two Let's come back. Strolls
were in action, swept the Royals and then got things
underway in Cincinnati. Excuse me, yes, Strolls off today, Let's
look at the state of the astros, and I want
my flowers. You know what I'm talking about. Sports Talks even.

Speaker 2 (11:47):
Ninety with yourn Next up pictures Tremble with fear.

Speaker 1 (11:52):
You run all the rest o comp three, run over.

Speaker 2 (11:56):
With Northfleeton, Gordion, next up, bellies tremble with hunger.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
Lunchtime is so close.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
Until then shout down on more next time.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
A lot. Yeah, just was all over the place.

Speaker 6 (12:18):
Mechanics not good, you know, location, I need to be better.

Speaker 7 (12:22):
I feel like I made some decent pictures that weren't called,
but it's hard to get called.

Speaker 1 (12:26):
Tracks in your you know, all over the place. So
you know that beat amount of walks is just excusable.

Speaker 3 (12:34):
Put your mask down.

Speaker 4 (12:36):
Justin Verlander went asked about his outing. Yesterday afternoon strolls
fall on the road in Cincinnati. Off today are the Astros.
They resume action tomorrow and Thursday. Where the strolls at?
You know that six games Gordy in the Al West,
strolls find themselves seventy five and sixty three. I personally

(13:00):
have my eye on how far they are from Cleveland.
Cleveland leader in the Al Central, trying to get that
first round by Gordon four games ahead of the Astros
and shut up to America as they keep sucking manners.
Are currently on a four game excuse me, three game
losing Street Astros had swept the Royds over the weekend.
We won't be able to get all of that in,

(13:20):
but we will surmise that the pitching staff this rotation
is starting to round in the shape as we are
now in the final season, final month of the season,
and Verlander didn't look good. And speaking of the postseason,
there's plenty of time to get to that. There are
those that don't believe right now Verlander is in the

(13:41):
rotation if the postseason were to begin this weekend based
on what I've seen, and this is hard for me.
Y'all know how I feel about JAV. I don't know
that I could make JV my game one starter. The
question becomes, you go whoever you love, probably Hunter Brown

(14:01):
game one. Maybe you go Fromber game one on a
Brown game two. The problem is do you go Kakuchie
Game three or do you go JV? Or do you
show JV the appropriate mind of respect that he would
probably surmise and you roll JV out there game one.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
We've got time to do it.

Speaker 4 (14:17):
But since we're hear Gordy real quick from you, what
you think? Would you go JV? Does he make the
playoff rotation right now?

Speaker 1 (14:23):
Today? Yeah?

Speaker 5 (14:25):
I mean I think track cracker. I mean, Dana Brown
even said as much recently. I forget I it was
last week, it was Sean or if it was the
Sunday visit with Robert Ford, but kind of intimated, like yev,
I mean, Verlander history shows he's a guy who you
give the ball to the postseason.

Speaker 1 (14:43):
Now to your point, will he be at Game one?
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (14:47):
You know, Dana Brown said yesterday or whatever it was Sunday,
that Ronel Blanco is probably gonna be the guy that
will slide out of this six man rotation and they'll
go to a five man and Blanco will go to
the bullpens. And that kind of answers that first question
on Blanco. But then when you get into a postseason, it's,
you know, it's that tough battle of Verlander the bulldog
with a track record of and I get it.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
Some people like to bitch about it.

Speaker 5 (15:09):
Oh, he hasn't been dominant the postseason, Okay, but he's
still pitched a lot of postseason innings and track record
all that and all that. But at the same time,
you know, I almost feel like fromber the way he's
pitched this year, he's kind of earned that do you
really want to give the ball to Spencer Raghetti in
a rookie season, go hey Man, game one or game

(15:29):
two of a postseason series, go get us a win
and Hunter round two.

Speaker 1 (15:33):
I mean, same thing with him.

Speaker 5 (15:34):
He pitched a little bit out of the bullpen in
the postseason, but he hasn't made, you know, postseason start,
so it as good as they've been. It just in
my mind it's a little bit tough. But you know,
on the other part too, Kakuchi's only made I think
one postseason starting his career in Toronto, so it's not
like he's got a huge track record.

Speaker 1 (15:51):
So I don't know.

Speaker 5 (15:53):
This seau will be very Hopefully it figures itself out right.
We got this whole month. Verlander gets back on track,
looks good at the end of September.

Speaker 1 (16:01):
Did not answers.

Speaker 4 (16:02):
You say it all the time, dance with who brought
you well In the case of the Astros in twenty
twenty four, who brought you facet frawnber Hunter, Brown, Spencer again,
they Rodney ol Blanco. In of recent you say Kakuchi,
but there's just still something about JV who only made
it through four and two thirds, who was that Joe
Spott went out to the mound at one point, and

(16:24):
many people, including myself, I was like, he's not taking
JV out. JV wants to fight through it, you know.
He moaned, you know, bitch, and moaned like hell to
try and get through the fifth inning, could not four
and two thirds for JV five earned runs attributed to him,
walked four. We know the last one the little blue
that cleared from Cincinnati, you know, made it look worse.

(16:45):
But JV's e alras. He is four point five two.
He threw one hundred and seven pitches, and we've got
to start at some point having a conversation. We know
that it's thirty five million for next year. Did not
vest because he didn't get the appropriate amount of innings.
One hundred and forty innings is what I think you needed,
so we don't have to worry about the money. Even

(17:06):
though the Ashtros are only on the hook for half
of that money. Still, JV's in a very delicate scenario.
And my point, I was gonna make Gord before we
go to the phone seven one three two one two
five seven ninety you want to talk shows over the
weekend and how things project As of now, the mortality
of Justin Verlander may be kicking in. I mean, he

(17:27):
may never get back to vintage Verlander, but is he
good enough in spots to get the job done.

Speaker 5 (17:37):
Yeah, I mean strike out stuff is still there. See
he's not, you know, it's not as dominant as it
once was, but he could still strike out some good
hitters and some big spots.

Speaker 1 (17:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (17:46):
I just I thought he pitched well in that first
I first came back against Boston when he went five innings,
get up the two runs. He's yet to get the
six innings A good phillies light up the next time around,
and then in the Reds kind of whatever. But you know,
we'll see if he keeps put it this way, If
if it's next three to four starts, it's four to

(18:07):
five runs each time out, Yeah, then I think we
go all right, this ain't happened.

Speaker 4 (18:11):
I got this from Will Konkle, posted at about sixteen
hours ago. Justin Verlander has allowed four plus runs in
every start but one since returning from the IL. No.

Speaker 5 (18:21):
But it's only been three so it's you know, that
sounds that sounds more hyperbolic than it is.

Speaker 1 (18:27):
What if I put it this way. Justin Verlander's only
giving up four more four or more runs and two
of his.

Speaker 5 (18:32):
Last you know, two of his last whatever starts like
that sounds way better.

Speaker 4 (18:36):
No, at Cincinnati attributed, five at Philly four attributed, and
then at versus Boston. There the two, uh that you're
talking about?

Speaker 6 (18:43):
That?

Speaker 4 (18:44):
So all right, I'm just it was posted. I thought
it was an interesting look. Let's go to the phone
lines now, let's start in the morning, Tom and Cyprus.

Speaker 1 (18:52):
What up would it?

Speaker 2 (18:54):
Hey?

Speaker 8 (18:54):
What's up?

Speaker 1 (18:55):
Guys?

Speaker 3 (18:55):
I'd like to go right to JAYV. I don't want
to throw dirt on the on the grave yet. I
think he still Hall of Famer and brings a lot
to the table. But I'd have to say someone said
it dance with who brought you? The guys have proven
there ready for this baseball in PRECS, in postseason, so
you're gonna have to go with the guys that have
been there. Hunter Brown, Arrogetty. I don't care that he's

(19:18):
a rookie, but let me give him a backhand compliment. JV.
You know I've always said this, and you guys will
remember every time he's joined this team, he's.

Speaker 1 (19:27):
Given him a bump.

Speaker 3 (19:28):
He gave him a bump this time too. He allowed
them to go to an extra days res and I'm
telling you Fombo was unconscious the other night. In seven minutes,
every pitcher that went on the mound. This month, they
were holding teams to a one eighty five batting average,
and they led the major leagues in both bullpenny ra
and starters thera. Every one of the starters won an

(19:51):
extra innings, including Kukuchie, So that's a bump he gave them.
This is almost like a spring training for jav But
I have to say he can't be a starter right now.

Speaker 5 (20:03):
Now.

Speaker 3 (20:03):
Who knows what he's going to show us in the
next couple of starts. I don't know, but the guy's
got the pedigree. I want to wipe home plate like
an umpire wood. Don't throw any any dirt on the
on the on the grave. Yet. Uh, we always know
he's had upside. So I hope he does get a
little better in the next two starts that he has
this month. But you know, we got to give these

(20:26):
young guys a shot. The way they've pitched. This pitching
staff has been on godly I mean, Fromber's last seven innings,
he was filthy. He could have been tipping pitches and
they weren't able to hit, you know, and Arrogatty link
Think about this guy. If Arrogetty gets five more outs,

(20:48):
we would have had two pitchers in our starting rotation
have no hitters.

Speaker 1 (20:52):
How about that. Appreciate my man Tom up in Cyprus.

Speaker 4 (20:55):
Excuse my voice as we get ready to pivot out
of this wil Katina Astro's conversation into the next segment. Gordon,
I must discuss something that was reported by very reliable
ASTROS source as it pertained to injuries to a certain
MVP candidate. I want my bleeping flowers. I said that
before the previous segment. Let's come back, keep talking. Strolls

(21:18):
seven one, three, two, two, five, seven ninety Homer strows baseball,
the legendary KB.

Speaker 2 (21:22):
And me when Fleet streets Houston listens.

Speaker 1 (21:27):
Yes, I have a great shirt already a huge brand.
I'm liking your stuff.

Speaker 2 (21:30):
Stanton or Fleet ten Chris Gordy are next up on
Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 6 (21:39):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I feel fine.

Speaker 1 (21:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (21:44):
I took you know, past what three days or so,
it's been taking lives. Feel really comfortable in there. So
in terms of the time off. I don't think it
really has affected me so much. I feel like it's
more just like mentally second locked in and your approach
and everything, which I think a pretty good job at that.
So we just kind of went over the you know,
the day comes here, coming out pretty soon, get back

(22:06):
in there and just start helping the team.

Speaker 4 (22:08):
Month A yeah, yeah, I remember that vo us. That's
one Kyle Tucker, a former MVP candidate. The last time
we saw him on June three, Welcome Back in the
next up were thirty minutes in two hour, two hours
here a home of the Strokes. We're in the gallery
are eight months, three months since we've heard from Tuck
and all we've seen is grainy video and some Yeah

(22:32):
berlandaes BERLANDA. Tucker is a real dude. We finally heard
from him, and we want to get to something that
Chandler Rome reported yesterday and it should make for some
fun conversation for now, Gordon, let's take the phone calls.
The people want to get in on the JV conversation.
Justin VERLANDA takes and el yesterday in Cincinnati. JV has

(22:54):
not recently looked like himself. JV's now three and five
on the year, just through four and two thirds and
Cincinnati gets the win.

Speaker 1 (23:05):
There.

Speaker 4 (23:06):
I want to reference something that I saw as it
pertains to just how excellent this Astro's staff has been
in the month of August.

Speaker 1 (23:17):
Where is it at? Where is it at? Here we go.

Speaker 4 (23:19):
Astros dominated August, posting a two point four to two
Elra overall, Hunter Brown one four to five, from Bavalde's
one five to nine, Arraghetti one nine to five, Kokuchie
down to a season best two five to seven. The pitching,
and it made me think about not that I want
to do it right now, gimn, but it made me

(23:39):
think about. You and I are again debating profusely over
the start of the season what would get the Astros
back together. I must say I was held being on
the pitching. And the pitching has gotten better now. This
hitting has still been circumstantial. I know you and I
both agreed from now.

Speaker 5 (23:56):
There largely in the month of August when they lost games.
The pitching was so good. When they lost games, it
was because offense didn't show up. They didn't have many
ten to nine losses. Put it that way, we're like, oh,
offense showed up if the pitching had just been better.
It was when they lost games, it was two to
one because Dophense didn't Joe up.

Speaker 4 (24:16):
How about the offense at home showing up over that
four game home staying with Eoranon Alvarez going yard a
number of times? It had been and I don't have
the timeframe. Perhaps you do. Gordon Jordan hadn't hit a
home run at home in like a month or something.
It was something ridiculous that like, Okay, Jordan is still
doing Jordan things.

Speaker 1 (24:34):
I feel great about that. It's not that hard.

Speaker 4 (24:36):
When and then Bagwell in the booth over the weekend,
can we discuss this real quick? Bagwell in the booth
over the weekend. I'm like, bro, stop this Well. You know,
when you're the name of the game is hitting singles.
When Jordan takes the ball out of the park, him
and Yannie and Daz and others, the Ashtros are gonna
win more of those games than they lose. So I

(24:57):
like scoring runs. That's just me. And also like domin pitching.

Speaker 5 (25:00):
I think Bagwell's actually I think like his foot or
his baseball analysis, it's pretty good. I think what we
just didn't like was when you know, he was trying
to defend Jose Brau and trying to defend Raphael Mataro.
We know he was part of those signings. That's where
it was kind of like, all right, you're mixing business
with broadcasting. But when he talks hitting and oh what

(25:21):
he's looking for here and all this kind of stuff,
he's really good at that.

Speaker 4 (25:25):
Friend of the station, Friend of the show, Michael and
the Heights, Good morning.

Speaker 7 (25:29):
Hey man, I'm with you, dude, Carl Tucker broke his leg.

Speaker 9 (25:32):
We knew it.

Speaker 10 (25:33):
I knew it. You knew it.

Speaker 7 (25:35):
Ridiculous, Yeah, man.

Speaker 1 (25:38):
Just it's just bizarre. It's just bizarre.

Speaker 4 (25:42):
And Chandler Rome, if you if you hadn't caught up
on that Astros fans yesterday, Chandler Rome put out on
The Athletic of which I'm a subscriber. Uh, three different
sources off the record internally have indeed admitted that the
leg is fractioned, uh out the severity of the fracture,
exactly where the fracture is, all of those things. We

(26:05):
don't have the time to get into that. But the
leg was broken, and they knew the leg was broken.
And this is another example that I've said to you
and some people over that minute may park. They love
to get on my ass going it, especially behind the
coon behind the curtain. They love to get on my
ass when they feel like I'm being unfair. I need
to hear from those same people right now that tell
me I was right when I was one of the

(26:27):
few in here telling you the leg is not just
a bone ber.

Speaker 5 (26:30):
Let me just put a little context in here, because
Kyl Tucker has a lot of content. Kyl Tucker did
say this, Yes, hold on, Michael and I he said,
After a little bit of time that continued imaging and stuff.
After the swelling and everything kind of calmed down, it
was revealed there was a little fracture in the shin.
So I think the initial diagnosis was it was bone burns.
They looked at they didn't see a fracture. What happened

(26:50):
was over the course of a couple of days, two weeks,
when the swelling came down, they saw the fraction.

Speaker 1 (26:56):
Order no, no, listen to me.

Speaker 5 (26:57):
But the team did not feel a need to come
back to an issue like in other words, they said,
I'll tuckers out.

Speaker 1 (27:03):
With a bone bruise, right.

Speaker 5 (27:05):
They didn't feel the need to come back in those
days to weeks when it was revealed the fracture to go, hey, guys,
want to just let y'all know a little clarity here.
It is a fracture. Don't do you feel like they
should do that? I feel like they should do that. Yes,
you should be transparent to the happens every time they've
had a friend who got in a car accident and

(27:25):
first few days they felt, oh, you know, okay, they
do a scan, he's okay, and then a few days
later you go back.

Speaker 1 (27:31):
Go, no, it was actually more serious than we thought.

Speaker 5 (27:33):
It's okay to admit that it wasn't you know, I
wouldn't even call it a misdiagnosis because you didn't see
the shin fracture. So but like for you to just
keep going it's a bone bruce for three months, we
all know it was.

Speaker 1 (27:45):
Not a bone bruce. Oh No.

Speaker 4 (27:47):
There was some people and somebody that I'm sharing his
radio platform with, there were certain people around here that say,
oh no, the team would not tell us the truth.
Why would they not tell you truth? Here's why the
team wouldn't tell you to true. Number one is they
want you to continue to buy merch and ticket sales
and They want you to not be alarmed that their
best player this season is not gonna be in the

(28:09):
lineup for a while. They know people would freak out.
You want to number two. Internally, you better believe Kyle
Tucker's agent is telling the team, look, you're talking about
us taking a dish, now, you better.

Speaker 5 (28:18):
Protect mice versa. What they argue is, we're protecting our player.
We don't know what to tell you, what's wrong with
this guy, and we're trying to help him out when
he gets free hits free agent is one team.

Speaker 4 (28:29):
The agent and the team are saying the same thing.
Let's protect Kyle here because it's also protecting you. Astro's okay,
michaelenn Heights, I took some of your time.

Speaker 1 (28:37):
Finish up. Then we'll get to Tony and Ingleton.

Speaker 9 (28:40):
Hey man.

Speaker 7 (28:41):
So anyways, you know, with all the imaging available today,
you couldn't see a fracture. But anyways, no, hey JV,
you can't walk three batters to start the inning.

Speaker 1 (28:50):
Base loaded off a rip?

Speaker 7 (28:52):
Yeah, base dude, base is loaded.

Speaker 1 (28:54):
I'm shocked.

Speaker 7 (28:54):
He only gave up two runs, So that was that
was not looking good. And those those pitches were not
I mean those guys could see those balls coming up,
you know, like, uh oh, did.

Speaker 4 (29:04):
We lose Michael? Uh oh, Sorry about that, Mike. I
don't think that was us. I'm sorry that I lost you.
Let's go to Tony and Angleton continue talking some strolls
before we wrap up this segment. Tony floors yours, you're
next up.

Speaker 1 (29:17):
All right, let's last night.

Speaker 10 (29:19):
Verlanders got squeezed off the bottom of the zone on
a couple of pitches that were great pitches. Man, And
he's this and this guy's a Hall of Fame pitcher.
All right, you don't if that pitch is down at
that zone, it's a good pitch on the corner like that,
that's a strike.

Speaker 4 (29:34):
Man.

Speaker 10 (29:35):
He got squeezed like crazy on the bottom of the zone.

Speaker 1 (29:38):
Chris Conroy is the umpire.

Speaker 10 (29:40):
He did it to us, his guys. Guy, I don't know, man,
this Chris Convoy, I don't know what what this guy's
problem is. He can't see the bottom of the zone.
He sees a bad he called a pitch on Kroatini.
That was that was two baseballs above, three baseballs above
the zone. This guy's terrible. Man, bring the robo lumps.
Verlanders gonna be fign. Y'all, listen, it's about pedigree. This

(30:02):
is not just the pedigree of this the team. The
pitching has carried this team stame to right pitching is
you're gonna win.

Speaker 1 (30:08):
Or lose with pitching.

Speaker 10 (30:08):
You gotta h gotta hit the baseball worried about Bregman
getting back with his elbow. I think he'll be fine.
Take a court of his own shot.

Speaker 1 (30:16):
The reason why your don has.

Speaker 10 (30:18):
Not been hitting home runs is they pitched around and
y'all he's they haven't they They haven't given anything him
anything to hit because there's nobody.

Speaker 1 (30:25):
Nobody was riding this hit except Yanner. Yanner.

Speaker 10 (30:28):
Diaz has to be in the lineup every day. If
he can walk, he has to be in the lineup
every single day. Tucker, we knew he had a broken legs.
Stand uh bagwell in the booth man. It is what
it is. I like some of the stories, but sometimes
it just gets tired. It's some bit much. And then

(30:48):
the last thing is our skipper. He's made a few
tactical mistakes, which are are expected, but the skipped the
guy a little bit. Give him a little bit of
slack man. He's a he's a rookie manager. He's feeling
his way into the job.

Speaker 1 (31:04):
I think we're gonna be fine.

Speaker 10 (31:05):
I think this's gonna be a This is gonna be
a good playoff run.

Speaker 4 (31:09):
Guys, my man, appreciate your Tony and Angleton. We up
against it. We will put a button on the segment
from an astro standpoint at least our thoughts unto the
eleven o'clock our Gordy, we Demiko Ryan's addressed media yesterday.
He's got some personnel folks number two with number three
respectively from the Texans personnel standpoint addressing the media this morning.

(31:33):
I do believe. So let's talk some Texans on the
other side. Button up Astros, finished Texans and kickoff the
eleven o'clock hour, Week one in the NFL. What are
you guys thinking? The pundits have spoken Sports Talk seven
ninety were real Texas talking.

Speaker 2 (31:46):
Listen, this is next up with Stan Norfleet and Chris Gordy.

Speaker 1 (31:53):
During this next stage on Sports.

Speaker 8 (31:56):
Talk seven ninety, I mean we have to be cautious
of it.

Speaker 4 (32:04):
You know.

Speaker 8 (32:04):
One thing is you know that soreness keeps coming back,
and so ultimately, if we could just give him some
rest and allow him to get through some of that
soreness and inflammation.

Speaker 1 (32:17):
You know, he's gonna be all right.

Speaker 8 (32:19):
You know, we gave him a few days before he
was feeling a lot better, and you know, maybe uh,
you know, we.

Speaker 1 (32:25):
Pushed him a little too hard, you know.

Speaker 8 (32:28):
You know, Bregman is that type of like he wants
to play, he wants to be out there. I mean,
he was biting at the bit when he was sitting
on the side. I don't think he likes that at all.
And so he said he felt good enough to play,
and you know, I think he like reaggravated it. But
at the latest on you know, Wednesday, with that day
off on Tuesday.

Speaker 1 (32:47):
Doesn't mean if we involved.

Speaker 4 (32:48):
I just I just that was General manager of the Astros,
Dana Brown over the holiday weekend, Gordy Alex Bregnant. I
saw it pop up on notifications from the Houston Chronicle.
Dad Bregman was gonna be out for a little bit.
So we're still dealing with this elbow, and I don't

(33:09):
know what to believe as of now as it pertains
to the elbow. Stan Fleet Gordy wrapping up our one
here next up, so much ground to cover. There's no way,
we're gonna do it in two hours. So we're trying
to play the hits for you and get the high notes.
Few other astros things that we did not get to again,
Alex Bregman and his elbow. Gordon, where are you at
on Brego and this elbow? Are you concerned that this

(33:30):
could impact going into the postseason his performance? Do you
just let him rest so that he is as healthy
as possible going into the postseason, which is probably where
I am. I think with a six game league, give
Bregman as much rest as you can, and if this
thing starts to get more nip and tuck, then you
bring him back.

Speaker 5 (33:48):
Yeah, it's tough because they acted like they acted like
it was super serious last week, and then he kept
playing and it was like.

Speaker 1 (33:55):
You know, they were like, oh, you know, you gotta
watch it.

Speaker 5 (33:58):
Probably placed a third and all this stuff, and then
they played him a third a couple of games. It
was like, wait a minute, I thought you were just
saying like, oh, he's gonna dhe Wait a.

Speaker 4 (34:05):
Minute, I thought playing him at first because there was
less velocity on throwing the football, going football throwing the baseball,
it wouldn't be ischy.

Speaker 5 (34:11):
He didn't even play a game at first. But you know,
I think I think they've got enough. You know, Dubond
has played third a number of games here, Shit, Whitcombe,
I'm done with.

Speaker 4 (34:21):
Shy Wilcomb at third. It's just not great. Yeah, it
wasn't what I thought it was gonna be.

Speaker 5 (34:26):
But Dubond's played what three out of the four games
since pregnant has been out at third? So has this
enzoe been over there? I can't keep up with the
not not in the last handful of days. But you
know I I I kind of yeah, like you need
his bat, but obviously his bat's more important, you know,
in the postseason, and you know, the your winnings. You're

(34:48):
still winning some games. Here, got a nice a little
bit of a breathing room. Now it was what it
was down to three or three and a half. I
got down. Now it's back up to six. I had
a Seattle so I would just play it safe. I mean,
you want to keep Seattle Bay. You'd love to kind
of chase, you know, jump the Twins and maybe even
the Guardians. You can get hot here and get a
higher seed in the playoffs. But at the end of

(35:09):
the day, if if Astro's got a host a wildcart
game against whoever, that's more important, Like having Bregman in
the lineup for those games is more important than these
regular season games. Are I just yeah, I think they're
being smart about it. Could he play? It's one those things.
Feels like they had to play if they had to
go play today, he had you know, they had to
play him today, could they?

Speaker 6 (35:29):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (35:29):
But I think they're just trying to be a little
smart about it.

Speaker 4 (35:31):
We haven't seen Alex Bregman since August or twenty ninth
versus the Royals, so he has missed the last four games.
Gord a needed day of rest for the Astros. Overall,
they're coming off of eighteen consecutive games, so today's rest
is most certainly welcome. And then they go on to stretch,
finishing up the series in Cincinnati before coming home face

(35:53):
Arizona this Friday, Saturday and Sunday before another day off.

Speaker 1 (35:57):
All right, So that's that piece.

Speaker 4 (35:59):
Also, Daun was asked about the postseason roster being expanded.
If you will call ups? Who did you bring up
Dana Brown?

Speaker 1 (36:07):
And why? Yeah?

Speaker 8 (36:08):
As you know, we've been using Victor Carratini a lot lately,
you know, maybe some first base and d H. So
it's nice to have another catcher on the bench, you know,
just in case if something happens, you know, because when
you're using that's say, for example, if you have to
pinch yourun you know, for Kartini. And you know you
also have fd as in the game because Kartini's dhing

(36:32):
or even playing first base, you know you're gonna need
an extra catcher. So you know, it's good to have
Salazar back. And then Whitley, you know, he's been throwing
the ball very well. You know, fastball has been above
ninety six, and he's cutting it loose and you know,
showing the power arm that he's you know that he's
had that he's had for a long time. And so
maybe this is a good runway to give him a

(36:54):
chance to see what he could do and you know,
give us some thought for the rest of this year
and also to next year and what would our plans
be fund So, uh, it's gonna be good to see
him up here, especially on this good run that he's on.

Speaker 4 (37:08):
Astro General manager Dana Brown call ups Gordy saveson Salazar,
who I like, I think the road that they had
in me and prior to sending him down, I think
in spots he can help you. And then for us,
Whitley comes up. Apparently he's been killing it down in
triple A and so he gets to come back up.
Are these the additions you would have made? Yeah, I

(37:31):
mean it's it makes sense, makes total sense. And we
got to see whit Lee yesterday.

Speaker 5 (37:35):
You know, gives up a hit, gives up a walk,
but then you know, comes back to pick up three strikeouts,
so it was a nice clean you know, uh, scoreless inning.
You should say for him yesterday, strike keep them in
the keep them in the game. But no, we were
calling for you know, when Salazar had his little run
with the Astros earlier this year. You know, he was
hitting and people were like, oh, keep him because the

(37:55):
dynamic of Yanner Diaz and Victor Kartini are so versatile
that either of them can start at first base, either
of them ken dh and either of them can catch.

Speaker 1 (38:08):
But you just don't want to get into those.

Speaker 5 (38:10):
Scenarios here where you're playing a game where it's Yon
Air behind home plate and you know, uh, Caroteeny at
first base and then somebody, somebody, somebody gets hurt, so
I got pitch or one of them is dhing and
you'll lose the d like that's where it helps have
that third catcher.

Speaker 4 (38:27):
And again, you know he's he's hit, so it's good
to have him back. One of the things that happened
while you were out. I'd love to get your take
on my guy, a dude that that I have a
lot of respect for from his days in Atlanta, Jason
Jay Hayes out there in right field in the absence
of Kyle Tucker. Your thoughts on bringing Jay hay aboard

(38:47):
and how he's performed since he's been in the Astros UNI.

Speaker 5 (38:50):
Yeah, it's it's been pretty solid. He's given you a
little something to work with and I like it. It's
you know, he hasn't set the world on fire, but
he's had some nice hits and you know, it's it's production.
It's what is he two twenty two as an Astros
hitter so far in five games? Yeah, it's better than
what Chas McCormick was giving you. So and again, I
know Chad just came back up with the paternity leave

(39:12):
for Jake Myers, but you know, it's again good. There
was a nice debut on Thursday, where he drove in
two runs. Set the tone. You know, scored a run
yesterday for you had to hit work to walk, so
I like it. Hopefully he can continue to give you
a little something. It's not all star Jason Hayward, but
it's it's something, all right.

Speaker 1 (39:31):
That's that.

Speaker 4 (39:32):
Now wrap up our astros, talk some a little bit
of breaking Texans news on the other side, and let's
do a deep dive. Let's also hear from Demiko Ryans
as well. Week one of the NFL starting on Thursday night.
Oh and speaking of the NFL, by the way, I'll
give you this nugget. According to DraftKings, Gordon c J.
Stroud has the second best odds now to win the MVP.

Speaker 10 (41:41):
The next step, take the next step, next stop.

Speaker 6 (41:44):
Next stop, next next stop.

Speaker 1 (41:46):
This team wants to be next.

Speaker 2 (41:49):
This is next stup with Tad Norfleeten Chris Gordy.

Speaker 3 (41:54):
Let's see what's next next next?

Speaker 1 (41:58):
Find it out?

Speaker 4 (41:58):
What the program live from the Sports song seven ninety studios.
We're in the gallery. I appreciate everybody that has tuned
in throughout the course of today's show. It will be
up for your consumption if you miss our one at
Sports seven ninety dot com as well as the free
iHeartRadio app. At the conclusion of find program, Chris Gordian
Studio appreciated him being backed from Vegas. LSU came up

(42:23):
short versus Southern California, not trying to relive it. Appreciate
the city of Austin for holding me down, hosted me
for two weeks. McConaughey told me to tell you guys
what up. He was taking a phone call Gordy, so
he wasn't able to bring me up to the suite.
I said, I had something else to do as a
little warned for Monica, so I was gonna get her.

Speaker 1 (42:39):
Back to the hotel.

Speaker 4 (42:40):
So but conaughhead his people and I traded some messages
and we'll see try and get him on the show
here and a little bit hold my breast Connaughdey mcgoverned,
he's in studio. He's over there on the other side.
Back from vacation as well. I hope everybody had a
fantastic labor day. We started the show in the one
o'clock hour with the college football landscape. Probably revisit that

(43:00):
at the end of this hour, but it's Week one
in the NFL and that's where most people attention go.
We did a healthy dialogue there on the astros in
the previous segment as well. Week one Texans at noon
on Sunday, they'll be kicking off up in Indianapolis, where
things have been quite contentious in this offseason between the

(43:23):
two organizations. The Colts feel like they let the Texans
off the hook last year and how that game went
in their building Week eighteen. You remember the Nico Collins
seventy five yarda right off the rip opening play Teddy.
So they feel CJ. Striu's been talking his bleep and
they want some get back Texans with expectations and that

(43:45):
is where we start.

Speaker 1 (43:46):
Now.

Speaker 4 (43:47):
The Texans are thought by most sites that I've seen
to win this division, and there are some team previews
for example, djb Enemy as part of that NFL Nation crew,
all the respective reporters for the teams. It's up on
ESPN dot Com as of September first, and just a

(44:08):
couple of highlights there on. From a FPI ranking standpoint,
the Texans come in Football Power Index. Y'all know that
the Texans and their power rankings basically came in ninth.
Chances to win the division just under fifty one percent,
chances to make the playoffs just over sixty four percent.
Projected win total according to ESPN dot com nine point

(44:31):
six wins for the Texans. Strength of schedule important for
many of you. Texans fourth most difficult based on the
win win loss percentages from the previous season. Djbenemy goes
essentially the biggest strength the Texans offense, biggest concerns the
health of the offensive line, and then he mentions the

(44:55):
Miko Ryans prowess. And then, for whatever reason, Bowen, who
is a contributor on their fantasy side of things and
a lot of ESPN analytics, he has a fantasy sleeper
candidate on ESPN dot com Damian Pierce for whatever reason.
All right, so now Week one is here. Texans favor
by two and a half. I'm taking the Texans over

(45:17):
nine and a half. I think the Texans win ten games.
I also think the Texans win this weekend. Gordy, where
are you at? Where's your mindset at? Texans wise open
up the phone lines as well as as Gorda get
ready to state his piece seven one, three, two on
two five seven ninety where's your mind space?

Speaker 1 (45:34):
What are you thinking?

Speaker 4 (45:36):
As we get ready to go to Indianapolis to start
Week one. I am still bullish on the Texans, though
I have some concerns.

Speaker 5 (45:42):
Yeah, I think I'm gonna stay on the you know,
the schedule is brutal. I'm gonna stay on the line
of if it's you know, they're they're they're gonna be
a really good team. But if the line is nine
and a half, I'm going under. And I still think
nine and eight. You know, potentially this division at least
gets in as a walk cart spot. So but I

(46:05):
just again, I like the roster. I liked that they've improved.
I'd like that they got Stefan Diggs and Joe Mixon.
But you also, you know what you also have to
factor into that evaluation when we're taking you know, trying
to guess to mate on what the season is gonna
be is injuries. You're gonna have probably a game where CJ.
Stroud misses. You're probably gonna have a game where Stingley
is out, or two or three games where Stingley misses.

Speaker 1 (46:27):
Will and may not go on Sunday.

Speaker 5 (46:28):
Yeah, I mean, there's just there's there's things like that
that you've got to account for that happened in every
NFL team. This isn't Texans exclusive. This happens across the
league every season. So because of that, I would say
probably I would go the under. But I'm still gonna
say not wins. I'm not predicting the wins six or
seven much.

Speaker 4 (46:44):
You're taking under. If you had to put down some money,
you would take the under. I'm taking over the biggest
text in strength it's gonna be, I would agree, it's
the offense, and it's lib by c J.

Speaker 1 (46:54):
Stroud.

Speaker 4 (46:55):
C J. Stroud is the reason that we're even having
this conversation. He he's good enough and everything that we've
seen thus far and what we're hearing the reports for
those that are over there practice regularly.

Speaker 3 (47:07):
C J.

Speaker 4 (47:07):
Stroud has taken his game to the next level. He
and Bobby Sloyd joined at the hip, along with Jerrod Johnson,
Bill Laser and others. My biggest concern is actually not
the health of the offensive line, although to me that's
the highest priority. My biggest concern is defensively. This Will

(47:28):
Anderson junr ankle, and there are no reports that I
have seen. Y'all give us a shout and you let
me know if you've seen or heard something different. Seven
one three, two one two five, seven ninety. Is this
the same ankle that caused him to miss two games
last season? Is it the same ankle? And then right now,
I don't think it's severe enough because you can only

(47:48):
put two people on the eye yard designated to return.
The Texans put Kurt Heinisch and Christian Haris. I gotta
believe Kurt Heinisch would have come off of that list
and they would have put Will Anderson on that list.
Now we'll get to what Domko had to say about
the Will Anderson ankle here in just a little bit.
But I do grow. Okay, these defensive tackles. We're all

(48:10):
ready without Deniko Auntry. You're all ready without Kurt Heinis,
who will be a reserve piece but would play some
snaps up in Indianapolis. Okay, if if, if, if Will
Anderson Jr. Can't go, all right, I still have confidence
in Dereck Barnett, Jerry Hughes, and Daniel Hunter. But now
you're talking about Anthony Richardson, No Christian Harris. We saw

(48:30):
Christian Harris go run down Lamar Jackson. I'm confident he
can go catch Anthony Richardson and his elite physical stature
as well, But we don't have Christian Harris. Now I'm
still bullet showing a ZZL shot. But I'm starting to
look at this defense, Gordy, and that becomes my biggest
area of concern for you, biggest area of concern going

(48:51):
into this week. I I still want to know that
I could trust everybody you know in the secondary. You
know Kamar Leister, You've heard he's had a great camp,
you know, but are you ready to be dB number two?
Is Derek Stingley ready to I mean, he's had an
awesome camp, you know, Is he going to be that
take that next leap in his career this year.

Speaker 1 (49:11):
Then what's the safeties look like?

Speaker 5 (49:13):
If Jalen Petrie's playing mostly nickel, it was Kayln Bullock
playing a lot more of that free safety star. Yeah,
and he's a rookie. Yeah, you know, rookies make mistakes.
Rookies are out of position, Rookies don't cover the you know,
you cover the slot and suddenly big bang, boom, a
double move and he's running past you. But he also
could have five in a sceptions. He could, he could,
and and that's what I like about Stingley. He's a

(49:35):
he's a ballhawk. So we'll see, man, we'll see. The
secondary is still have some questions. Obviously. I've been telling
you that the interior, that defensive line concerns me as well.
And they look, if you miss Will Anderson, it's I mean,
you've put a lot of pressure. Daniel Hunter. I need
a three sack game for me. That was easy chasing
down after Richards.

Speaker 4 (49:52):
The Neil Hunter coming off what he's in the NFC.
The Neil Hunter career season from him, sixteen and a
half sacks led the NFC. I think he was fifth
or sixth off the top of my head in overall
sacks in the league, but again first in the NFC,
playing previously in Minnesota. Obviously there are some updates as

(50:13):
it pertains to the Texans. We'll get to those here momentarily.
Seven three ninety. You want to talk some Texans, Let's
go to the phone line now, friend of the station,
Friend of the show, kJ and Cyprus.

Speaker 1 (50:25):
Good morning, Martin Fellas as usual, a lot of show.
What up though? And MJ to go real quick.

Speaker 11 (50:33):
My concern honestly the things that were the biggest issues.

Speaker 1 (50:37):
For us last year.

Speaker 11 (50:37):
I think if and you guys can check this once
I'm done, I think that the Texans led by far
the most games missed from the offensive line.

Speaker 1 (50:45):
That's accurate.

Speaker 11 (50:46):
So if we're able to actually get healthy that ended
up itself.

Speaker 1 (50:49):
Mix is a better team.

Speaker 11 (50:50):
We played the second half of the season without us,
without tankdal and obviously Stephan Digital was there, so that
was an upgrade. The backfield, running back room has been
graded with Mixing and from what we've seen our cam makers,
so me personally offensively, I don't have any concerns. If
I had to point to something, it would be the
same as Chris said. I still have some questions a monks,

(51:12):
I'm about the secondary, but my biggest concern, if it
is a legitimate concern, is uh, he's having a tough
more slump, Oha having a toping more slump. I don't,
I don't foresee it. But but what he did for
the team last year, literally taking us on his back
with the running game, we won't have.

Speaker 1 (51:29):
To do us much.

Speaker 11 (51:30):
But we've seen players before come out and peak their
rookie year. I'm not predicting this with j because of
his demeanor, the way he carries itself. I predict him
to continue what he did last year. But that's really
my own concern right there at the secondary Fellers letter
show again man and check out out day.

Speaker 4 (51:45):
Thank you brother kJ up in Cyprus, Gordion. As we
wrap up this segment, we'll continue talking Texans on the
other side, uh, because I want to hear from Demiico
Rance who spoke yesterday Texans had to walk through. Tomko
took the podium after that. As specifically about leading into
this week one at Indianapolis. The twenty twenty four captains

(52:05):
for your Houston Texans are out couple. What is a
handful of names here rather Aziz al Shia, Stepan Diggs,
John Weeks, Will Anderson Jr. Of course, CJ. Stroud, Jimmy
Ward and Laramie Tunzel are the seven captains for the
twenty twenty four season. Gordon on the way out, anything

(52:27):
stand out from a captain standpoint for you? No, I
mean that's we could have We could have guessed that one.
So I would say, asease is probably a surprise. You
hadn't been here for about ten minutes, and we know
the importance of him on the defense. But I think
I wondered if they would have let a Stingly or
somebody that had been around a Christian Harris, maybe somebody

(52:48):
that had been around a little bit longer.

Speaker 5 (52:51):
But I spo but those guys are young at least
Disease has been a link longer. And I mean, let's
be real, what is what position to tomkop play That's
gonna be the captain.

Speaker 1 (53:00):
Of the defense, you know, no matter who it is.

Speaker 4 (53:02):
The thing also that many of you might might note,
Stefan Diggs has been a captain in every team he's
been on. He's a captain here in Houston as well.
So for anybody that had concerns about Now, just because
he's a captain doesn't mean that there won't be some
flare ups on the sideline. What I'm trying to say
is this should calm some of the concerns of how

(53:24):
he has integrated and ingratiated himself into this locker room.
Demiko has said it, Caserio has said it, CJ has
said it. Diggs is one of us and that is
a good sign him being a captain. Break come back,
take some phone calls on Texans if you like, and
we'll hear from Demko seven one three two one two
five seven ninety KBM me to the neck.

Speaker 1 (53:47):
To the ditch roll.

Speaker 2 (53:48):
This is next time.

Speaker 10 (53:50):
You've kind of hit on everything I wanted to say.

Speaker 2 (53:52):
With stan Or Vliet and Chris Gordy on Sports Talk
seven ninety.

Speaker 9 (54:02):
God new year. Not worried about last year, right, Last
year was last year. We're fully focused on twenty twenty four.
We're completely different team. They're a different team as well,
So for me, last year has nothing to do with
this year going into their place.

Speaker 4 (54:18):
Man, welcome back to the seven one to three. That's
what we do around here. When the Gallery area fleet
Gordon Connedy McGovern that was the voice of Demko Ryans,
and I say this all the time. You know, twenty
twenty four and last year in sports period, the last
year doesn't do a whole bunch for you. Each year

(54:39):
is a new opportunity to do something else because your
team is not the same, the rules may not be
the same. The circumstances, the injuries, all of that, the suspensions,
all of that stuff Roe versus home opponents. There are
a lot of things that factor in. So Demko is
clearly telling his boys, Look, you got to go earn
the right for all those people to write all that
night stuff and brag on you. I'm looking at some

(55:00):
I asked Gordy during the break. Cynthia Freelan is a
very smart anethlete analytically based pundit for NFL Network and
on NFL dot Com. Over the weekend, she posted AFC
win projections. She's got the Texans at ten point four
wins according to her models, and projected to win the

(55:22):
AFC South. She says the ceiling is just under thirteen wins,
so she's got it at twelve point six, and then
she goes into a quick stepping on why she thinks
my model forecast a more efficient Texans run game this season,
which helps insulate their win total floor thanks to increased
ball control potential. So she mentioned she does not mention,

(55:45):
but I think that's a reference to Joe Mixon, who
Demiko was asked about yesterday morning as well.

Speaker 1 (55:51):
So I think we're all in agreement. Gordia.

Speaker 4 (55:53):
You have the Texans winning the AFC South. I haven't
win in the South. Connor, thumb off. You you got Texans
winning the South, all right, thumbs up. Connor is in
agreement there. What we don't know is what I.

Speaker 1 (56:04):
Said, though, watch out for the Colts. Oh stop, watch
out watch When it means you don't think the Texans
are a better team, I know they are.

Speaker 5 (56:13):
But as we know, last year, Jacksonville, throughout much of
the year, we thought, you know, on paper was a I'll.

Speaker 1 (56:21):
Tide of Houston.

Speaker 4 (56:22):
Yeah, I'll say to Houston, Jacksonville was a better team
than the Houston as an organization was viewed to be
a dumpster fire.

Speaker 5 (56:28):
And it came down to the last week the season.
It took the Titans beating beating them and the Texas
fall apart. But on paper, the Jaguars were better. That's
what I'm saying, like, don't be surprised if the Texans
go nine to eight and the Colts go ten and
seven and they win the division, even though we think
that this team is better. So so the number one

(56:53):
reason if I were to ask you, Gordon, your number
one reason for being concerned about the Colts, there are
two names that pop up.

Speaker 4 (57:01):
One and this is where I think you are. I
think you would say, Anthony Richardson. Is that accurate? The
thing that concerns you most about Indianapolis? Yeah, a healthy
Anthony Richardson put this on.

Speaker 5 (57:15):
I was doing a fantasy draft last night, Oh lord,
and Anthony Richardson Fantasy football wise, production wise, they're putting
him in that category right behind Lamar Jackson crowd.

Speaker 4 (57:27):
He's right there with Joe Burrow and that group. Because
he scored like he can run. He's gonna be able
to get you. He's gonna put some rushing touchdown and
the stats are gonna be sexy. Demico won right here.
If you would Connor Demico, you are facing Anthony Richardson.
We know what he did the last time we saw
him versus the Texans.

Speaker 1 (57:45):
Uh in that what was that Week two match up?

Speaker 4 (57:49):
Here? At NRG this time Lucas Oil Stadium. Demico, Anthony Richardson.

Speaker 9 (57:54):
It's been really great Mattop for us to start off
start off the year. Anthony Richardson, as he showed with
the limited amount of snaps that he's had, he's shown
that he can be a dynamic playmaker and running the ball,
also throwing the football. So he's a playmaker, right, you
have to account for him every single snap is because
of his dynamic ability.

Speaker 1 (58:12):
Right to run the football.

Speaker 9 (58:14):
So he poses a really good talent for us defensively
and we definitely have our hand full.

Speaker 4 (58:21):
Yeah, I appreciate the head coaching and that's about right,
Like you don't want to you know, whether it's bullet
bulletin board material or not. Anthony Richardson in flashes have
shown us that he can be different physically. He's a
very gifted young man. I want to see how healthy is.
I want to see Kenny Handel because we give so

(58:43):
much credit to these quarterbacks that may take the leap
in year two, Demiko is going to be better as
a play caller. As a head coach and play caller
in year two, I think the Texans overall will be
a better team in year two. I think this pass
rush has an opportunity to be better in year two.
Aziz al Shaya didn't play against Anthony Richardson last year

(59:04):
in a Texans uniform. And then we can go Jalen Petrie.
They haven't seen Jalen Petrie in this nickel role on
a regular basis. So there are still you mentioned Kamar
Lassiter the second round corner. There are themes that the
Colts haven't seen that the Texans now possessed Joe Mixon
in the backfield has to change some things.

Speaker 1 (59:26):
And then I hang my hat.

Speaker 4 (59:27):
On this for all of the physical prowess that Anthony
Richardson brings to the position. And by the way, he
did struggle his last preseason game, turning the ball over
a couple of times.

Speaker 5 (59:38):
But that's like that's like saying I got struggling in
a spring training game. It doesn't there's no reflection on that.
Then why do you play it into the because like
they make us, it.

Speaker 4 (59:47):
Doesn't count money, it doesn't count towards the record, but
it does matter CJ. Quite frankly. CJ's just a better quarterback.
So if you're asking me who do I trust a
banged up Anthony Richard that has some limitations in the
passing game versus his first game of the season, versus

(01:00:07):
c J. Stroud on the road, everything that we've seen
from last year with more offensive weapons, including a healthy
offensive line in the second year of Bobby Slowyck's offense,
I'm gonna take CJ.

Speaker 1 (01:00:20):
Stroude. Excuse me.

Speaker 4 (01:00:21):
That's why the Texans I believe, are two and a
half point favorite on the row. The guy that gives
me the most concern, Gordy is not Anthony Richardson the
other name is that dude in the backfield wearing the
white and blue up in Indy. Yeah, let me hear
Demiko too, if I could please Connor Demko on running
back Jonathan Taylor.

Speaker 9 (01:00:39):
Yeah, Jonathan think he's a successful running back just because
he runs with such great contact balance, like it takes
more than one guy to get him down. He does
a really good job breaking tackles, He plays physical, he
plays downhill, he runs the ball, plays.

Speaker 1 (01:00:54):
The game the right way.

Speaker 9 (01:00:55):
I think that's what makes him a really good running back.

Speaker 4 (01:00:57):
This is the one that makes me nervous. Without Christian
Harrison the lineup and we'll see if will Anderson can
go and this defensive interior rotation, which was already a
concern from a lot of us. You now talk about
Mario Erwis Junior, who battled through some Nixon some bumps
and bruises, got nicked up a little bit in camp.
Tim Settle Jr. Didn't practice much in the preseason at all.

(01:01:19):
Now you don't have you don't have Kurt Heiness, a
rotational piece that we know Demico trust. I get concerned
about the run game, the run defense. That's where my
eyeballs go first, specifically about this week. But we have Demko,
they don't.

Speaker 1 (01:01:39):
Okay, is he gonna play defensive tack?

Speaker 4 (01:01:42):
He looked like he could not defensive tackle, but it
looked like certainly he could still play.

Speaker 1 (01:01:47):
I just go.

Speaker 4 (01:01:47):
When you add up the entire defense, the names that
are missing do make me a bit concern. If Jonathan
Taylor rips off, what did he have that game? Everybody
went crazy the Week eighteen game. I can't remember. I
have to go back and looking up what he actually had.
From a yardage standpoint. If the Colts decide we're going

(01:02:08):
to take under in eighty eight yards, yeah, I was
gonna say it was approaching two hundred. I didn't know
what it was. If Jona Taylor runs for one hundred
and eighty eight yards again and Anthony Richardson throws for
two hundred and a tud and maybe rushless for one,
the Texans will lose this who if they can stop
stop it as a strong word, If they can limit

(01:02:29):
the damage of the Colts run game, the Texans will
We're in. He does that again, They're gonna lose. I'm
just laving to look, it's funny. I'm comparing their roster
around this time in last year to.

Speaker 5 (01:02:41):
Now Texans or Coats, Colts Okay, And you got Anthony
Richardson back, you know, in there instead of Gardner minshew
mm hmm. You got Jonathan Taylor back in their contract
resolved and all that instead Zach Moss. Your whole offensive
line in that schell is certainly a guy who can
go off.

Speaker 1 (01:03:00):
Texas Native.

Speaker 5 (01:03:01):
Their D line is back Quitty pay Grover Stewart forst Buckner.

Speaker 4 (01:03:07):
The dtail are a really good team. I think they
are a talented bunch. I just don't think they're as
good as what we've seen from CJ's Texans. I think
the Texans top to bottom. Now it looks like, and
I'm just trying to gaze real quick, it looks like

(01:03:29):
the Colts are a bit healthier than the Texans are,
and they're at home, and the environment is gonna get
be rackets and they want to get back in CJ
for what they perceive is talking too much trash in
the offseason. They know how they're you ended, They've heard
all the pundits bloviate about what the Texans are going
to do. This is going to be a really tough game.

(01:03:50):
But guess what so was opening up the season last year.
Week won at Baltimore the last time, the last time
we saw the Texans on the road in a houstling.
Granted the circumstances were different, but it was at M
and T Bank Stadium. They're on the harbor Baltimore, and
so they like, at some point you've got to overcome

(01:04:13):
those types of environments. At some point you got to
start to get away from this is the tag on you.
So this is an important game for the Texas, not
just because it's the first one, but because it's the
next one. We'll keep talking Texas, pivot back into some
college football and wrap up with some astros as we
get ready for the Matt Thomas Show coming up in
about an hour. However, when you're talking Week one of

(01:04:36):
the NFL, you ask yourself, can they limit Anthony Richardson
from throwing for two hundred yards?

Speaker 1 (01:04:42):
Plus?

Speaker 4 (01:04:42):
Can they keep Jonathan Taylor out of the end zone?

For the year.

Speaker 4 (01:06:35):
Demiko sounded confident. He's got some defensive players that a
little banged up. We will see the designation for Will
Anderson Jr. Who has been listed as questionable right now
stand Northfleet Chris Gordon Next up on a Tuesday. Hope
everybody had a fantastic Labor Day weekend, lot of sports.
We couldn't cram anything everything, excuse me into two hours.

(01:06:57):
Astros four game Suite of the Oroyols then they get
on a plane, go up to Cincinnati and come up
short and Justin Verlander's start four and two thirds from him.
We'll talk more Strugs coming up, Gordiy, Let's finish Texans
and get back to some college football. As week zero
and week one respectively have come and gone, what that
mean to some of the local teams, and start to

(01:07:19):
look at week two where the Longhorns I back in
the eye of the nation. They got a tough one.
Long Horns travel to the Big House next week. I
talk about that. Gordon was in Las Vegas where Southern
California and the Bayou Bengals of LSU had a good
one going, saw that one, stream that one on the
phone there while I was in Austin.

Speaker 1 (01:07:40):
All right, Texans.

Speaker 4 (01:07:41):
According to ESPN bet, that line that opened at two
and a half Fellas has come down to two points.
Do you suspect, Gordon that as we start getting these
injury updates, do you think by the time we kick,
the line could be down one and a half, maybe
even one by the time we kick, or you think
it'll stay between at two two and a half? Well,

(01:08:03):
it's probably, I mean, the the the reason for the
movement most likely is money is coming in on the Colts.

Speaker 1 (01:08:12):
So people are looking at us.

Speaker 5 (01:08:13):
A week one home underdog that's fully healthy with Anthony
Richardson in full compliment of weapons. Yeah, I mean they're
looking they're looking at that as this is this is
a this is easy money. It's what people are looking
at this. It doesn't mean the Texans. It doesn't mean
people don't want the Texans to win or that, you know,
people are jumping off the Texas bandwagon. It's just people

(01:08:34):
are seeing value in a home dog in the Colts
week one. I'm checking a few other books just to
kind of see her. Yeah, I mean FanDuel's still sitting
at two and a half. ESPN bets still sitting at
at two and a half, so we'll see. But yeah,
people are just seeing the home value of the Colts.

Speaker 2 (01:08:53):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (01:08:53):
This is Mike Jones. He's an NFL writer and reporter
for The Athletic. He has Texans win total at nine. Anyway,
I'm just peeping through what he's saying here. There's there's
nothing real new to see here. Will Anderson Jr's Name
Continues to come up. Demiko asked about Will Anderson Jr.
Demiko three. If I hadn't heard that, I don't think

(01:09:14):
i've heard this one as yet. Okay, we did hear
from Demiko. I appreciate you guys doing that. My apologies
on that when there was something else Dimko said that
I wanted to hear.

Speaker 1 (01:09:23):
Aha.

Speaker 4 (01:09:24):
I believe that Texans have the advantage this weekend because
of the dude wearhing jersey number seven. Let me hear
Dimiko four on CJ Stroud.

Speaker 9 (01:09:31):
Yeah, CJ's command is growing just how he communicates in
the hoddle. You communicate with confidence in a hoddle. I
think it's just been more vocal, But when you do
it right for this second time around, it's a lot
more easier. The verbts of our offense hasn't changed, so
it's easier for him to understand what we're calling and
communicate that with confidence. And he's doing that.

Speaker 1 (01:09:55):
All right.

Speaker 4 (01:09:56):
So nothing no, nothing newsworthy there from Demko as it
pertains to CJ. For me, it's just as simple like
let's put this thing, let's just strapulate this, and let's
kind of go position group by position group. I think
most people, including you, Gordon, would take CJ. Stroud over
Anthony Richardson. Yes, yes, whoa, whoa? Get that damn hesitation

(01:10:21):
at your voice? What are you doing? I'm just saying,
what are you doing? You want me to in another year?
Two years? I think there's a world where they both
can be awesome.

Speaker 1 (01:10:31):
Put it that way. You have to choose one. Are
you choosing now? It's Stroud?

Speaker 5 (01:10:35):
Okay, So let's just Sayndy Richardson's fully healthy. He's a dog.
You don't know that he's finished one game as a
pro one he started.

Speaker 4 (01:10:44):
Somebody said this on one of the stations I was
listening to yesterday. Anthony Richardson has started twenty three games
his entire football career.

Speaker 5 (01:10:54):
And it's one quarter against the Texans. He ran for
not one but two touchdowns.

Speaker 4 (01:10:57):
So, okay, fine, I'm more concerned with Gardner Minsch. You're
doing work against the Texans to Anthony Richardson. But let's
not be labeled that point anymore. Most people will take strout.
I'm taking strout. The Texans offensive line when healthy, is
as good as the Coats old line. I'll go even
on that fair. Yeah, I'm taking the Texans wide receiver

(01:11:19):
room over the Colts wide receiver room. You say, yeah, yeah, absolutely,
Speaking of the wide receiver room, let me hear Dimiko seven,
Stefon Diggs is in that room. If you didn't hear
about thirty minutes ago, Stefan Diggs has been appointed one
of the seven captains for the Texans. I do believe
Demiko Steph Diggs.

Speaker 9 (01:11:37):
Yeah, really excited about add a stepfon to our team.
I mean, you talk about his influence, it's not just
his influence on the receivers, it's just his influence on
our entire team. Like his competitive spirit, what he brings
each and every day, like it lights to fire in
our entire team. So I'm very pleased with what he's done,
the energy that he brings, and I'm excited to see him,

(01:12:00):
right go do it in a regular season. But he's
been He's been a leader for us since the day
he stepped on the field, and I'm very excited to
see him continue to grow, continue him, continue to see
him build, you know, even better chemistry with his teammates.

Speaker 4 (01:12:15):
All Right, appreciate demko On Steph Diggs going to you
would agree wide receiver room advantage Texans, Yes, all right,
running back room. Jonathan Taylor is the best running back yes,
but Joe Mixon, whatever they think Damian Pierce still is
and what we all saw cam Akers versus Jonathan Taylor,

(01:12:36):
Trey Sermon, a street free agent, and Tyler Goodson another
street free agent from two years ago. The Texans running
back room, and we know in this content and this
system they like using multiple backs. I'll take the Texans
running back room over the Indianapolis running back. I don't

(01:12:57):
care who's bond Jonathan Taylor. Jonathan Taylor when he's healthiest,
one the best running backs in the NFL. Say that
part when what Jonathan Taylor went healthy is one of
the best running backs in the NFL, no question about that.

Speaker 5 (01:13:07):
How me play the Texas? He almost ran for two
hundred yards Jonathan Taylor. Moslan Trump's whatever you got behind job.

Speaker 4 (01:13:13):
So Jonathan Taylor, by himself is better than the running
back room of the Texans.

Speaker 5 (01:13:17):
Yes, I'm not ready to say that. Okay, and then
you're looking through your Liberty blue, Liberty white and blue glasses.

Speaker 4 (01:13:26):
All right, let's uh, I got to do a read here.
Let's come back. I promise last bit of Texans. We'll
do college football. Let's get some astros and we'll hand
the reins over to Matt Thomas and Rossville, Real for
the Matt Thomas Show.

Speaker 1 (01:13:38):
I get it.

Speaker 4 (01:13:38):
Jonathan Taylor is a stud and if you too want
to be a stud, I've got a formula for you.
At least the people over at get studrrex dot com
would like to provide a solution for you, a local, reliable,
discrete solution for your male performance needs. Oh yeah, it
was a big weekend in Austin, beautiful hotel room overlooking
DKR fleet had to clocke and who was there the

(01:14:01):
assist ship boy, Yeah, it was get sturex dot com.
They have a special compound. You work with a practitioner,
if you will, a licensed medical professional and they asked you, hey,
what do you need to do? I know you trust
some of those other brands and some of those other pills.
We can modify that for you. We are one of
the few people in the market that do it, and

(01:14:22):
we can get it to you discreetly if you're within

(01:14:43):
click on that for a little brief medical questionnaire, and
that's about it. You pick the package of your choice
and there it is. You decide if you want to
deliver it, how you want to do it, or you
want to come pick it up. It's just that easy.
Whether you need quick rapid action formula or you need
something that's gonna last year while we gotta be efficient

(01:15:03):
with our time. Gentlemen, football season is upon us. If
you want to be treated like the stud that you are,
go to get studr rex dot com so you can
pick the perfect package to fit your package perfectly.

Speaker 2 (01:15:17):
Next and back up now, Don Door Fleets and Chris
Gordy on Next Up on Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 9 (01:15:31):
Joby Joe Joby. He'll be doing what he's done his
entire career. I don't think you'll see anything different. He's as,
he's strong, physical back, He's gonna he's gonna get yards, right,
So I'm excited about seeing Joe run the ball behind
our office line.

Speaker 1 (01:15:47):
Yeah, Demico Ryans, I'm with you.

Speaker 4 (01:15:49):
I couldncur you can have Jonathan Taylor Indianapolis with his
banged up history. I take a healthy Joe Mixing and
Damian Pierce because they believe he's still got something there.
I hadn't seen it this offseason, maybe on half, and
I know what I saw from cam Akers. I'll take
our three versus that one, Stan Fleet, Gordon, Matt Thomas,

(01:16:11):
Ross river On in about ten minutes. All right, Gordon,
real quick flip the defensive side of the ball. I'm
willing to bet you will take the Colts defensive line
versus the Texans defensive line for the moment. We haven't
seen Will Anderson junior practice since what the Hall of
Fame game, So let's just say he doesn't play. You're

(01:16:31):
gonna take Colts D line instead of the over the
Texas D line. I should say, yes, I would to
live backer Corps. We all agree, Aziz as Shy, you're good,
but e J Speed, Zaya Franklin, I'm gonna take those two.
With Christian Harris being out. Yeah, I'm gonna take the Colts.
So right now, the Coats front seven probably take better

(01:16:55):
than the Texans, and then the Colts on the back half.
I mean, there are no real notice of names here.
You have concerns about the Texan secondary because of the past.
Rush Stingley's the best corner on both teams. Jimmy Ward
is healthy, Jalen Peatree new role. I'll take the Texans

(01:17:17):
secondary over Colt secondary. Texans secondary over Colts secondary. Yeah,
they're going with Juju Brants, a second rounder last year
at one corner, Jalen Jones, a seventh round pick last
year at another corner. There's Kenny Moore to second a
nickel out of New England. And then it's safety. They're
going with Julian black Men and Nick Cross.

Speaker 5 (01:17:39):
Yes, I well, I all agree, hands down, all right,
Texans wide receiver should eat against So you have to
believe if the old line can protect, it's the front
seven that's really good for the For the Colts, no
question that that secondary what is that?

Speaker 1 (01:17:57):
It's not great.

Speaker 4 (01:17:58):
So again that's why if you, Bobby Sloyck, can you
dive up right off the rip last year Week eighteen,
we go on to Nico right off the top. You
know it'd be awesome if the first player of the
game on Sunday Sloyd should dial it up again. We
gonna go bombs over Betty on their ass again. Make
the Coats back up and create some lanes happen. I

(01:18:18):
think the Texans are not just gonna cover. I think
the Texan's gonna win this game by double digits. I
think they're gonna smack the Coats. I said smack. I
didn't bite my tongue. We'll see what my predictions officially
are by the time we get to Friday. Speaking of
the NFL, so let's cram some stuff in if we could.
This broke a few moments ago, remember that time I

(01:18:40):
did the whole thing with the Texans rather have Stefan
Diggs on a one year deal or the Brandon Iyu
contract that he got the thirty million per year to
stay in San fran Well, the Browns apparently offered the
forty nine ers a second, a third and Amari Cooper
for the rights to Brandon I You and then to

(01:19:02):
turn around and paying, And the Niners said, no, that's
wild to me.

Speaker 1 (01:19:08):
Damn that's a lot.

Speaker 4 (01:19:10):
So the forty Niners apparently they believe in continuity because
they gave Brandon I You pretty much. He didn't get
everything he wanted, but he pretty much wanted that, all right,
Texas A and M, as well as Oklahoma in action
over the weekend. We'll talk about those programs here in
just a second, Gordon, But I also saw Kyler Murray

(01:19:31):
is back in the news DFW native obviously, where he
played his college ball. Also, I remind you was a
draft pick at baseball by the Oakland Athletics. Kyler Murray
says he still wishes he could play baseball. Is Kyler
Murray done playing baseball? Could you see him going back
and trying to dabble in maybe the off season that?

Speaker 1 (01:19:56):
Yeah, I mean I don't know that.

Speaker 5 (01:19:58):
I always heard what a great baseball player he was,
so it's it's impossible, it's a possibility.

Speaker 4 (01:20:05):
But also how old is he now? Yeah, he's getting
up that he's been banged up too. He's twenty seven,
coming off in acl two years ago. Yeah, and in
August seventh, Okay, so he just turned twenty seven.

Speaker 1 (01:20:18):
Yeah. I mean, once you get twenty eight twenty nine, baseball.

Speaker 4 (01:20:20):
Ain't look at you anymore. I would agree. All right,
college game, you were in Vegas, I was in Austin.
Appreciate the good people showing me a great time there.

Speaker 1 (01:20:30):
What about the Mannings They didn't bring it to their suite.

Speaker 4 (01:20:32):
You know, Peyton and I we already have relationship from
my recruiting visit to the University of Tennessee. Well, Seyton
probably wasn't. There was probably Archie and uh what talking about?
Oh you're talking about at the I think you talking
about at Tennessee. Oh at the game Texas. Yeah, it's
probably Archie and uh Cooper, you bring up the coaches pole,
which is out. We're still waiting to hear the ap

(01:20:53):
pole that likely will break this afternoon. You want to
take the coaches pole in terms of through week zero
and week one of the coaches pulp, I just taxed.

Speaker 1 (01:21:04):
Oh, here we go. Georgia's at one. Georgia Ohio State
Texas bese EXAs moves up. Uh, Oregon move.

Speaker 5 (01:21:11):
Oregon moves down because they played they played around with
I think it was Idaho correct.

Speaker 6 (01:21:17):
Team.

Speaker 5 (01:21:18):
Everybody was all Dylan Gabriel going over anytho for three
hundred and eighty yards. But yeah, everybody thought that was
going to be like a five six touchdown day for
doing Gabriel as a Heisman favorite, and uh, it was
just okay.

Speaker 4 (01:21:30):
Here comes the SEC. Missouri moves up into the top ten.
Connor's excited about that. The University of Tennessee they move
up three spots, as does Oklahoma. There's USC big win
over your Bayou Bengals. I'm sorry to keep bringing that up,
but USC is obviously a prominent program. A lot of
Californians here in the city's loss. They're probably the best
team of college football this year.

Speaker 1 (01:21:51):
Good locks. USC moves up.

Speaker 4 (01:21:54):
Florida State drops from number ten, completely out of the
Player of the top twenty five Roder. This's gotta be
the first time that's ever happened. Yeah, I don't know
what I've ever seen that before. They're your Bayou Bengals
at nineteen. Clemson rough start for them. They got bullied
by the number one team in the land. They fall
eight spots to number twenty two. Anything else of note.

(01:22:16):
There's Oklahoma at thirteen, Texas A and M. Yeah, the
A and M falls out. I always got an offense
to go for this, Kate McNamara. They score with thirty points.
It's like the most points I always ever scored. Yeah,
so they look out for them.

Speaker 1 (01:22:29):
All right. No astro's action tonight.

Speaker 4 (01:22:33):
It was confirmed, however, that Kyle Tucker, according to the
reporting of Chandler Rome three sources inside the building, there
was indeed or a fracture in Kyle Tucker's legs. Still
don't know when we will see him. I did see
some video on him moving around much better than I'd
seen him previously. Will we see Tuck this home stand
by the time that the Diamondbacks come in on Friday,

(01:22:55):
Saturday and Sunday, Gordon, well, they.

Speaker 1 (01:22:57):
Even say home stand, he's on the road trip with them.

Speaker 5 (01:22:59):
It's Cincinnati, and they said we might see him Thursdayati okay,
So Dana Brown said.

Speaker 1 (01:23:06):
I don't know about that strolls off Verlanda not great.

Speaker 4 (01:23:09):
I don't think that either of us have Verlanda right now,
or at least where do we land on that right now?
You don't have confidence the next couple of weeks. I
think it'll be in the rotation, all right, So we
don't have astros tonight. I don't know what the hell
is on TV tonight on a Tuesday. Nonetheless, any day
ending in whis a good occasion. The Holly Gordy and

(01:23:30):
the good people over at Carbock, I'm told, yeah, and
go check out.

Speaker 5 (01:23:33):
Of course, they just said the grand opening of pizza
and pints over there at Carbok Brewing.

Speaker 1 (01:23:38):
You you know what, you love it when you see
it it is. It's amazing pizza.

Speaker 5 (01:23:43):
Man. It's a great spot to go, you know, get
out of the heat outside in the beer garden, get
a little ac and of course over there at Pizza
and Pints or pints and pizza, you got great stuff
going on the Neapolitan style pizza fresh Carbok Brews on tap.
Family friendly. You could bring the kids, bring the family
out there. It is pizza and pints Carbock Brewing full menu.

(01:24:06):
They're closed today, but here's here's our schedule. They're open
Tuesday through Thursday eleven am to nine, and then Friday
through Saturday eleven to nine. Even open on Sunday eleven
am to six. So if you're heading out to Carbock
Brewing you want to get a taste of their new
pizzas and everything they got over there pizza pits, make
sure you do it again. Close today, but open tomorrow

(01:24:27):
well happy hour, whatever you want to do. It is
pizza and pikes right there at Carbock Brewing. Appreciate everybody
hanging out with US on a Tuesday.

Speaker 1 (01:24:33):
We are way over.

Speaker 4 (01:24:34):
Matt Thomas, Rossbery, Rea coming your way at Connady, McGovern
Chris Gohoda stan Fleet. Thanks to all of you, Houston,
favorite city in America. We'll do it again tomorrow. Enjoy
