Speaker 1 (00:04):
A new version of the software that helps keep your
Mac running in tip top shape. What's going on. I'm
rich Demiro. This is rich on Tech. Clean my Mac
is one of my essential programs for my Mac laptop.
I've used some feature of the program pretty much every
few days for many years now, and now they have
a totally redesigned app called Clean my Mac x or ten,
with a new look and feel. Plus it does even more.
(00:26):
We'll take a look at what's new. But first up,
let me tell you what clean my Mac is all about.
It's an all in one app that helps you maintain
your Mac computer. It cleans up your system, protects it
gets rid of old files and programs and more. And
again we're discussing the inside of your system. It's not
going to clean up the outside of your system. Now,
if you're familiar with the program, you'll notice some speed
improvements in the new version. MacPaw, the company that makes it,
(00:49):
says the new program is three times faster than before,
and they've also added malware removal and a new and
improved menu bar app.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
More on all of that later.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
One thing they changed that I don't like so much
is the new pricing.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
I'll tell you about that as well.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
So the main function of clean my Mac that most
people will use is the smart scan. This is a
quick scan of your system that can help you identify
the unnecessary files taking up space, including all the random
files that programs generate, and also the stuff that you
have collecting in the trash. The smart scan will also
quickly scan for any threats to your system and increase
the speed of your system by flushing the DNS cash
(01:24):
and freeing up RAM. Now, if you want to get
more specific with your cleanup, there are several other scans
you can do. Think of these as more deep dives.
There's a scan for system junk, photo junk, mail attachments,
iTunes junk, and the trash bin. One of the functions
I personally use the most is the scan for large
and old files. This is really handy for finding those
(01:44):
big files that are lurking on your hard drive taking
up a ton of space, and on a laptop like
mine where every gigabyte is precious.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
This has been one of my favorite scans to do.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
Also, Clean my Mac does not do anything automatically when
it comes to important files like this.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
Sure it might clear out your.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
Cash and a smart scan, but if you're going to
be dumping photos or big files, it will always present
you with a list that you can double check and
pick the items that you want gone before it gets
rid of them. There's also an option to securely erase
files as well, if you need a bit more protection
on that level. Another feature I love is the application
uninstaller Now. Macs are pretty easy when it comes to
uninstalling apps. You can drag and drop many of them
(02:23):
right into the trash and that takes care of it.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
But that's not always the case.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
Sometimes these apps leave around little fragments and that can
mess up your computer over time, slow it down, or
just leave little things you don't want on there. Clean
by Mac gives you a list of all the programs
that are installed in your computer, and in one click
you can get rid of the.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Ones you don't need anymore.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
It will completely uninstall them, so all the little things
that are usually left hanging nothing is left lingering around.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
I love that feature.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
The new version also sorts your apps now into categories,
including thirty two bit unused apps you got from the
app store and by vendor, so if you want to
see all the apps that you have for Microsoft on
your machine.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
You can do that or Google or whatever.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
This is a really great feature and I use it
often since I'm always testing out new programs. I use
them for a while and then I want to dump them.
Also new in the app is a malware scan and removal.
Now there's not a ton of malware on Max, but
it can happen, and it's nice to know you're protected.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
The clean my Mac program also tells you the last.
Speaker 1 (03:17):
Time that the definitions and things were updated for the malware.
Clean my Mac also has other stuff like an option
to delete your browsing history and other privacy related traces
from your online activities, including your chat history. Another feature
I like is the little helper app in the Mac
menu bar. I'm always referencing this one tap and you
can instantly see all kinds of crucial information about your system,
(03:38):
including how much hard drive space you have left that
when I'm always looking at pretty much every day, how
much memory you have left, how much battery you have
left in which apps are draining the battery most. Then
there's a little icon with info about your CPU, including
the current temperature and how much load is currently on it.
Then you've got a network monitor, so you can see
if something's going on in your network when you're not
(03:58):
really using your computer, and that shit be a red flag. Plus,
you have an option to connect to Dropbox you can
monitor how much free space you have in there. As
you can see, Clean my Mac really is an all
in one tool that does it all. There are more
features haven't even mentioned, and to me, this is an
essential app if you work on a Mac now. Like me,
I'm always doing video editing, so I'm always putting big
files on my computer. That's why I'm always trying to
(04:19):
see how much hard drive space I have left, and
I'm always trying to free up those files when I
no longer need them.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
Clean my Mac really helps me do all that stuff.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
There is a free trial if you want to check
things out, but if you proceed, it's a one time
payment of ninety dollars. Or you can upgrade from the
current version of Clean my Mac three for fifty percent off.
Or you can subscribe to something called set App. This
is a ten dollars monthly subscription that gives you a
library of premium curated apps. You just download the ones
you need when you need them. And again these are
(04:48):
premium curated apps. You're getting all the features inside the
apps for that ten dollars monthly payment.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
You don't have to pay anything more.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
And if you're listening to this podcast in the first
week that Clean my Mac ten is out, it's.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
Thirty percent for the first week.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
If you're listening to the podcast after the first week,
and when you go to the website you don't see
a discount on the prices, I recommend downloading my favorite
coupon code finder for Chrome called wikiby.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
When I went to the mac.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
Paul website to check out the prices for clean my Mac,
it showed me ten codes to try for discounts. I
will put a link to that in the show notes.
And wiki by works for all kinds of websites. It's
one of my favorite helpers for Chrome because literally it
finds promo codes that nobody else finds.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
It's really great. All right, there you have it.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
An essential MacApp gets a major update. Go check it
out again. It is Clean my Mac ten written Clean
my MacX. You can find links at richontech dot tv

podcast helpful, please take a screenshot of it and share
it with your friends.
Speaker 2 (05:45):
