Shure MV7 (00:00):
Hi, welcome back to the simple SEO podcast today.
We're going to talk about SEOfor coaches or really any
business.
Okay.
If you're not a coach.
Don't just hit that button andscap and think, oh, this one's
not for me.
We're going to talk about howyou can rank your website at the
top of Google and get organictraffic.

(00:20):
To help grow your business.
So if you've been here for awhile, you know, I'm Rachel.
And I am your host, and I'vebeen in SEO and content
marketing for about 15 years.
And I love helping you each weekwith actionable tips that are
going to help you rank higher onGoogle.
Get more organic traffic andgrow your business.

(00:41):
So let's jump right in.
From an SEO standpoint, the veryfirst thing that you want to do
with your website.
Is to make sure your website isoptimized for Google.
So that means your actualwebsite pages themselves.
So your homepage, your aboutpage, your services or product
page, your contact page, anything like that, that you

(01:04):
have on your website.
You want to do some keywordresearch and you want to choose
a keyword for each individualpage.
And I want you to use differentkeywords for each of your
website pages, because Google'sonly going to show your.
Your website, a maximum of twotimes for any given keyword.
So if you use the same keywordon all four pages or all five

(01:24):
pages, you are going to limityour visibility and we don't
want to limit visibility.
We want to increase visibility.
That's the whole point of doingSEO, right?
So now.
You and choose a keyword.
You're going to use that keywordin all the places that Google is
going to look on that page toget an idea as to what it's
about.
If you're not sure what theseare.

(01:46):
Go ahead quickly and get a copyof my beginner's SEO guide.
It's an edge to marketing.comforward slash freebies, because
that's going to walk you throughwhat these elements are and how
to format them.
And it also is going to show youwhat they look like in Google,
so that you understand whatyour.
You're optimizing on the backendand how it's going to read.

(02:09):
For your.
Potential customer.
So you're gonna want to use yourkeyword in your title tag and
your meta description.
You're going to want to use it.
And your header tags, your imagefile name.
Your copy.
Potentially your URL, dependingon the page.
Sometimes that's a little harderto do, especially on the core
pages of our websites.
So you're going to want to makesure that you're using that

(02:29):
keyword in all the places thatGoogle is going to look.
Now, Google's going to pick up.
Similar keywords and potentiallyrank you for them, whether
they're a perfect match or notbecause Google understands
semantically related terms.
So don't worry about, do I needto do the single versus the
plural?
You don't, you're going to rankfor whichever one a consumer is

(02:52):
searching for.
So you're going to do that.
That's going to get your four orfive pages of your main website
optimized, which is going tohelp you start to show up.
It's also going to make iteasier.
So when people do search for youin the search results,
especially if they're searchingfor your business name, And they
see it.
They're going to see.
Information that you havecontrol of in the search results

(03:14):
itself in the form of your titletag and your meta description.
Those are ideally designed tohelp.
And people decide to clickthrough, to come learn more
about your business.
So you really want to write themfor the consumer, not for the
search engine, but you want touse the key word in them so that
the search engine understands,oh yes.

(03:34):
This is about this keyword.
Now.
If you really want to rank atthe top of Google for more
keywords.
And you want to get more organictraffic to your website.
You're going to need to createadditional content.
That you're going to alsooptimize.
So what I want you to thinkabout SEO rather than thinking
it's technical.
It's this it's that it's hard.

(03:56):
SEO is actually the way that youget visibility for your content.
So it's a connection pointbetween the content you're
creating.
And the person that you'recreating it for.
So in order to have moreopportunities to show up in
Google search results, you'regoing to want to blog.
And I know some people are likeblogging.
Gosh, Rachel, isn't that like2008?

(04:18):
Any it is, but it's not bloggingto this day is the single best
way to grow your organictraffic, because think about it.
Each new blog posts that youcreate is another opportunity
for people to find yourbusiness.
So it's all aboutdiscoverability.

(04:39):
It's about creating content.
That's going to help youraudience.
You're going to give them.
Content that they're looking forquestions that they want
answered.
So let's talk about coaches, let's say that your coach and
you coach.
Women.
Let's say peri-menopausal womenwho want to lose weight.
There's a bunch of them outthere.
Right.
All of us gen X ladies are, mostof us are in that.

(05:01):
We've gained a few pounds.
We don't necessarily like whatwe, you know, everything exactly
as it is.
Maybe our jeans are a littletight.
Maybe I'm talking from personalexperience.
I just turned 49 recently, andlife is definitely happening.
So let's just pretend we'retalking about these
peri-menopausal women.
We're going to help them.
They're going to lose 10 poundsor genes are going to fit more

(05:22):
comfortably.
So maybe.
We create.
Content all about that and howperi-menopause impacts.
Your life, why it feels harderto lose weight during
peri-menopause.
Why.
The fact that you have to gainweight during menopause.
Perimenopause is actually amyth.

(05:43):
Um, what actually contributes tomidlife weight gain.
Um, All of these kinds ofthings, you could talk about
healthy recipes.
You could talk about exercise.
You could talk about.
Balance.
So you really want to thinkabout your ideal customer, your
business.
How does it all tie together?
And what you're going to do iscreate that content plan.

(06:03):
And each week you're going tocreate a new blog post that
addresses that customer's need.
So let's just pretend we're theperimenopause health coach.
So we're going to talk aboutperi-menopause in general, we're
going to talk about weight gain.
We're going to talk aboutexercise and maybe we're going
to talk about.
Balance or taking time forourselves because in many cases

(06:26):
that's actually what's going onis she just doesn't have enough
time for herself.
And she feels guilty taking thattime to devote to herself.
For that hour a day or whateverit is because maybe, you know,
maybe she's like me, maybe she'sin this Andrew sandwich
generation, you know, I have amother who's almost 80.
Who's got Alzheimer's.

(06:46):
And I have a nine-year-old childwho's in the fourth grade.
So I've got a little bit ofeverything going on.
Yeah.
If you're doing math, I was anolder mom.
I worked many years and built acareer and didn't meet my
husband until later in life.
But.
What you want to think about iswho is she and how are you going
to help her?

(07:06):
And what content can you createfor her?
And if you join me in simple SEOcontent, I'm going to teach you
how to find these content ideas.
So that, you know, people aresearching for them so that
you're creating content thatthere's already an audience for.
And then I'm going to teach youhow to do the keyword research
so that you can see.
Oh, okay.
There's really a good chance forme to rank for this particular

(07:29):
topic.
So I'm going to focus on thisand this is how I'm going to
name it.
So that I have a better chanceof ranking.
So in all full transparency, soyou can see how I'm doing all of
this SEO for coaches.
Was a keyword that I wanted togo after for the business.
And I knew I had a really goodchance of ranking at the top of
page one for that.

(07:49):
If I created great contentaround it, So that's why this
particular blog posts, thisparticular podcast episode ended
up being using coaches as theexample in it, even though what
I'm teaching you is applicableto any business.
But SEO for coaches had a betterchance of ranking than SEO for
online businesses or SEO or SEOfor small businesses.

(08:11):
Goodness gracious.
I'm never going to rank for, because it's way too
competitive.
So that's really what you wantto look at is how can I find
opportunities to rank to bringmore traffic to my website?
Because each new blog posts thatyou create is one more
opportunity for a potentialcustomer to get help.
To find an answer to connectwith you, to be brought into

(08:35):
your world.
And then if you have a goodopt-in on your website, you have
a good freebie of VFO, whateverterm you're used to it being
referred to as.
Then.
You have a chance to get them onyour email list and then you can
nurture them.
You can share your weekly emailswith them.
You can share your new blogposts.
If you podcast like I do, youcan share your podcast.
