deep Philadelphia is Fox Sports Radio to gambling.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Trio. Pitch and Harper swings and it's one high the
air to right.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
It's deep Estepsky is back at the track looking up
and it is gone. A towering fly ball to right
that Bryce Harper hits out over the out of town
scoreboard for his third.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
Home run of the season.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
It's pitch one.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
On popped up.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
This should end it.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
Harper left in the bag at first, He's under it
and calling, and he's got it and the ball game
is over.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
A one two three ninth inning for Matt Strom.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
To finish it up and the Phillies even up the
series in a game apiece with a six to four win.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
Oh yes, that's how it sound.

Speaker 4 (01:19):
A courtesy of our friends over the Phillies Radio network.
A good afternoon, everybody. A little chili outside now holding
us back. We got a lot to get to. It's
gonna warm things up in here. Because bottom line is, folks,
what a great time year. NBA playoffs tipped off last night.

(01:40):
Play in playoffs, it all counts.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
We are nine days away.

Speaker 5 (01:44):
We are nine days away from the un That works too.
That works too, We are nine days away.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Yeah, that was a fat finger deal. It was going
for this one.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
Yeah, but it all nine days away from the NFL
Draft and a lot to discuss in the sports world.
As I said across the board, joining me on this
fine program. Beautiful Wednesday afternoon, the one and only mister
Kyle Fisher. A perfect day to have Kyle in here.
Of course, does a great job for the fine folks

(02:22):
over at Philly Sports Network.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
You can catch him down at the old Ballyard. I
love it.

Speaker 4 (02:26):
I got this image of you and Luke just talking shop,
breaking down Phil's box scores, talking about the game, interviewing
the Rob Thompson before the game, postgame, getting into players conversations.
Nice work across the board by you and Luke. But
great to have you today, Kyle. Excited to have you, sir.

Speaker 3 (02:45):
How a we doing great? Man?

Speaker 6 (02:47):
And You're right, Luke and I have connected down there.
Keeps checking it every time he's down. Hey man, what
games you work in this series? We interviewed Cody Clemens
together the other day, so it's been good down the
good start of the season as far as Viner concerned,
I know that the fan base might think differently, but
from my perspective, I think things are off to a

(03:11):
and okay start despite some of the struggles that they've
seen so far to start this season.

Speaker 4 (03:15):
So yeah, look, we expect them to win every game.
Is that is that the issue right now? Are Philly
fans a little too fat? Let me ask you that, like,
because we have had a lot of success, and I
think it starts with a lot of the people that
push this, this this conversational topic to where it's like
they want perfection every day, but you're not going to

(03:37):
get that in one sixty two.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
Guys are going to struggle.

Speaker 4 (03:40):
Teams aren't locked and loaded with nine future Hall of Famers.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
Right, Like even the Dodgers have holes.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
So a guy like Alec Bohm, who's going to play
one hundred and forty games, you're gonna have to suck
it up.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
He's going to go through stretches now. Brandon marsh is
an interesting conversational piece.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
Though, like get rid into it because he hasn't had.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
A hit since March.

Speaker 6 (04:03):
Yeah, it's not the best start. So, like you said,
hasn't had a hit since the calendar turned over to
the month of April. I think his batting average is
sitting at one hundred at the moment, which is not
what you want to see from a guy who was
challenged to potentially become an everyday player this year, facing
left handed pitching more often. Top earlier this week said

(04:24):
he was going to give him a day or two
there was a chance to conturn into three. It turns
out it was less than one. I mean, he didn't hit,
but he came in for a defensive replacement Monday.

Speaker 3 (04:33):
Later the same day, after Topper said that.

Speaker 6 (04:35):
He may season time on the bench, he said postgame
after getting an RBI fly out yesterday, he and Boom
combining to play some small.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
Ball, Boom moving him over and Mark do his job
getting the ball in the air.

Speaker 6 (04:49):
Deep enough to get the run home head the Deathel could,
which I would imagine it feels good when you've struggled
you as he has so far to start the month
of April.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
But it's it is. It's going to be something worth
watching right.

Speaker 6 (05:01):
Outfield was an area that a lot of people were
hoping the team would address in the offseason. They felt
comfortable with who they had and so far, the nine
hole center field specifically has been a struggle to start
this young season.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
So between he and Rojas, Kepler.

Speaker 6 (05:16):
Has started to hit the ball a little bit better
this past week, but even he got out to a
slow start, especially against.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
Left handed hitting excuse me, left handed pitching.

Speaker 6 (05:23):
So it's it's going to be an area to watch
closely all season long, that outfield outside of Nick Castianos
for sure.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
All right, well, I don't want to bury the lead.

Speaker 4 (05:32):
We got to open up with the fact that they
were able to win a game at home, in a
fun game six to four final score against a Giants
team that is playing really well to start the season
well documented. Of course, we know how good that division is,
so I got to do is take a peek of
who they've been up against, and of course in that
first game against the Phillies they did win.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
So tonight's game is another interesting spot.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
Right like here it is it's April sixteenth, owns losing
their minds, knowing with the brain of functioning brain isn't
losing their minds over anything, but it's one of those
games where you want to see you compete against the
best of the best, and right now, the Giants are
one of the better teams in the National League.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
Will that be the case come August?

Speaker 4 (06:11):
I highly doubt it, But at this point in time,
this is a team that could actually, you know, show
you a little something if you're able to come away
with the victory as the Phillies did yesterday six to four.
But to that conversation, I do want to bring this
up and once again, tonight Game three going down Assistants
Bank Park, and you got Aaron Nola on the mount
at minus one forty eight Robbie Ray plus one twenty four.

(06:34):
We'll get into a little bit more as far as
the game for tonight and especially from the betting perspective
eight to total in that one. You know, as this
team is currently constructed, though, Kyle, do you feel like
this team having an opportunity to watch all of Major
League Baseball and take a look at who's who and
what's what? And it's only been seventeen eighteen games for

(06:54):
everybody out there, But right now, how do you feel
about this Phillies team is a real deal contender? Is
this a team that needs to make a move that
if they don't make a if they don't go out
there and get somebody at the trade that line that
this is a team that just does not have enough
when it's going to come around to postseason play. Still

(07:16):
too early to say, I don't care. Let's put that.
Let's have a fun barroom conversation. I'm asking you right now,
judge this team. Give us your honest opinion. Does this
team have enough AMMO to get us to the Promised
Land this year?

Speaker 1 (07:28):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (07:29):
I mean if guys keep hitting the way that they are, right,
if March is hitting the way he is, and Rohat
still looks over zealous at the plate, and Stott hasn't
found a way to hit left handers, and Boom looks
like second half not first half boone, then no, they
don't have enough.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
That's obvious.

Speaker 5 (07:44):
Right.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
There's the National League is very deep.

Speaker 6 (07:47):
But if you're assuming that everybody's going to play exactly
the same right now, you're assuming that everybody's going to
play the exactly the same across the entire league, and
I think that is unlikely.

Speaker 3 (07:56):
Right, So, for the sake of having the.

Speaker 6 (07:58):
Fun conversation, though I promise I won't into too it's
too early talk. Yeah, I think that when you look
at the back of the baseball card for a lot
of these guys, and you're more than likely going to
aggress to what your your career averages are, or, in
maybe Marsh's case, progress to what your your your your
season averages are. It's a team that clearly has enough

(08:21):
right they offensively take them as a group. They're hitting
better right now than they were through this many games
last season. Pitching wise, they're better outside of home runs
than they were in almost every category at this point
last season, and they won mid nineties games and won
the National League East. So clearly they are good enough
to be a contender. It's a matter of getting timely hitting.

(08:44):
And I think that I'm kind of going to change
the conversation on you for a second, but we can
stay here. The big thing that I've felt is that
the last three years, and especially the way that the
playoffs ended against the Mets, it's just turned into a
hangover this year. I think that a lot of fans
feel like I'm seeing a lot of the same things
that I saw at the end of last season that

(09:05):
I got frustrated about, and what are they fixing?

Speaker 3 (09:08):
What are they going to do to fix it?

Speaker 6 (09:09):
People did the exact same thing with the Eagles and
they won the Super Bowl. I mean at Week four,
people were ready to fire Nick Sirianni into the sun,
and now they're like, I want him to have like
some wh he's the greatest coach we've ever had. Like
it's it's I hate to be it's too early guy
all the time. But if you put it in NFL terms, work,
by the end of this giant series, we will be

(09:31):
at game two of the NFL season.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
Tough game equivalency. Every every NFL.

Speaker 6 (09:38):
Game is equivalent to about nine and a half MLB
games when it comes to breaking down one sixty two
versus seventeen, So nineteen games is two full NFL games.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
And at this point Philly's Philly fans were willing to
do anything that they could to yell at the sky
about the Eagles.

Speaker 6 (09:56):
Right, Well, it's the exact same situation if if the
Eagles didn't have that second half the year prior, then
that hangover in the first four weeks probably would not
have felt as intense. And the exact same thing is
the case for the Phillies if they didn't fall one
round shorter of the last three seasons and look pretty
ugly at the end of last season, and then you
see some of those things start to start this season

(10:19):
as well.

Speaker 3 (10:19):
I don't think that it's the same thing, right if.

Speaker 6 (10:21):
They finished amazingly and just got beat by a hot
team at the end of last year, you know, got
out hit or whatever. Nobody's feeling the way that they
feel right now. It's frustrating, but nobody's talking like, oh man,
what are they doing. They got to make a move,
They have to do something different. Like it's so early
in the season. When you look at who's on this
roster and what they have done for this team the
last few seasons, there's no reason to think that they

(10:43):
won't continue to do the same this year.

Speaker 4 (10:45):
All Right, tough matchup as far as pitching is concerned.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
Tonight.

Speaker 4 (10:48):
Robbie Ray on the bump for the Giants this evening
at Citizens Bank Park. Robbie Ray off to a great
start three and zero on the season, two point ninety three. Again,
these guys are punching way of their belt at this
point in time, and I'm talking about the Giants as
a collective. Here Aaron Nola on the flip side, though,
curious to know your thoughts on this one and what
we've learned over the years, Like, am I off? I think,

(11:11):
and I don't remember Aaron Nola coming off to like
this bat of a start, Like this might be the
worst career start for Aaron Nola.

Speaker 6 (11:19):
It feels worse. I don't know if it's drastically worse.
I'd have to go back and look at the actual numbers.
But he got He's traditionally been a slower starter. Maybe
this is the slowest start he's been off to, but
he's typically a slower starter. Top Or even mentioned that
before the season started. And the home run has become

(11:42):
an issue for him, allowing the home run, but even
last year allowing a ton of home runs, he still
brought his cra down significantly after a rough start in
the early going. So he's a guy who just needs
the warm weather to get going. Really feel that that
arm get loose and hook, He's going to be just fine.
I've never been a let's get fired up and concerned
about Aaron Nola guy. I think that he falls in

(12:04):
the same rackets. How a lot of people got split
on Reees Hoskins right because you either considered him the
hero of a rough era and you were excited to
see the stars be put around him, or you just
associated him with that bad era because he was one
of the few bright points of that of that time period.

(12:26):
And I feel that the same way about Aaronola. I
think a lot of people associate him with twenty sixteen,
twenty twenty twenty like that, before they really got going
under even they looked good in the first half under
Kapler a couple of times, but before they really started
getting going in twenty one, twenty two, twenty three, there
was some rough years, and Aaron Nola was associated with that.

(12:47):
So I think that a lot of people they'll look
at the contract and freak out. They'll look at the
home run propensity, they'll look at a five and a
half ye all right to start the year, and they'll
they'll get upset. But we know what he's gonna He's
gonna give you thirty plus starts. He's gonna give you
close to two hundred innings. He's gonna be a threat
to go seven every game. It might take until May

(13:07):
for him to get into that groove, but his era
is not gonna sit this high for a very long
And they've done such a good job of making adjustments
with pitchers. It seems like his only mistakes always get hit,
whereas a lot of guys get away with mistakes. And
that's something that obviously you need to control your mistakes.
But if you're limiting base runners and you're limiting the

(13:29):
mistakes overall, even if a guy catches one and it's
a one a one run shot, you're still sitting your
team up for success. So I think he's gonna be
fine long term. Whether he wins tonight, that's a different story.

Speaker 4 (13:41):
All right, So we will go around the division. Interesting
day as far as Major League Baseball is concerned. With
the Braves and Spencer Strider back to the party. Braves
in action early today. The Mets currently trail three nothing
as well to the Twins. They're in an early action
as well. It's in the seventh inning. But once again
a Giants Phillies around three this evening. Really good matchup

(14:03):
Robbie Ray and Aaron Nola going head to head. Nola
minus one forty eight significant favorite, but that's understood, especially
when the bats are alive for the Phillies as they
were last night. And uh, look, you take a peek
at what Shorb's doing against.

Speaker 2 (14:17):
Lefties this year. He's just absolutely tearing them up. No,
he's doing it to everybody.

Speaker 4 (14:21):
But that's probably something that's playing into this number as well,
being as high as it is for Aaron Nola at
home going against a pretty good Giants team. If I
made you make a selection, where are you in on
this one? The Phillies gonna win this series tonight tonight.

Speaker 3 (14:36):
It's tough.

Speaker 6 (14:37):
Ray's really good. He's a left handed pitcher, which they
struggle with. I think Schwartz really the only left who's
been hitting left handed pitching at all to start the season.
Even I think Scott was like two for two for
twenty four two.

Speaker 4 (14:50):
Hits last night, baby though I know not against left
but still still no.

Speaker 6 (14:54):
Him getting hot is important, especially if you're going to
have him at the top of the order. I think
that having Kyle behind Bryce has been a bright point.
I think that that's very helpful. People want to attack
Bryce more. I think he's overswinging as a result. I
think he's not used to seeing this many pitches in
the zone early in games. Late, they still pitch around him.
I noticed a lot of curveballs on Monday when I

(15:16):
was down there to him later in the game. Especially,
but I think it's going to be a tough sloting.
I want to say that they'll win and they'll build
momentum from last night. If you're asking me to put
put my hard earned money on something, I may I
might not be able to pick for them. I might
find some fun prompts instead of picking a game to
keep my conscience clear, and I apologize.

Speaker 4 (15:36):
This is a four game series against the Giants to if.

Speaker 6 (15:41):
They lose today, they have to fight really hard tomorrow
to get to get the split.

Speaker 4 (15:44):
Yeah, and then the Marlins come in on Friday with
the electric jerseys.

Speaker 2 (15:49):
The City connect is what we call.

Speaker 3 (15:51):
Those things look exciting? Huh?

Speaker 2 (15:53):
You like them? Are you a fan or no?

Speaker 6 (15:56):
I mean if I like the Colorado ones, like the
All Purple ones, those are kind of fun. But I
like when teams take a different approach, like yeah, I didn't.
I don't love the Phillies ones, but it's it's very
different than what you have so to me.

Speaker 4 (16:10):
To me, I think the Phillies understood the assignment right.
If we could pull a phrase from social media ten
years ago, I think they understood the assignment. It's something
completely different the issue that I have, and that everybody
else has is that. I can't get down with not
seeing red. Like it's just the Phillies are red. And

(16:31):
when you get out there and you're all blue and
the yellow, I like it, but it's just not Phillies.
It doesn't speak to me. Red is the Phillies. That's
the Phillies color. And I don't know.

Speaker 3 (16:42):
I agree with you.

Speaker 6 (16:42):
I mean even the even the powder Blues had the
maroon in there, right, I like the maroon. I like
the bright red. Yeah, I agree with you. It feels weird,
you know.

Speaker 3 (16:51):
Colorado.

Speaker 6 (16:51):
It might be a lighter purple, but they've had purple
in their existence since they since the expansion happened. So Miami,
I mean they they've had funky colors forever. I love
their old jerseys, the pinstripe, oh yeah, the best jerseys
with the shirts underneath and that like almost like neon green.

Speaker 3 (17:10):
I love that best jerseys and used to have the cutoffs.

Speaker 2 (17:15):
Oh yeah, oh.

Speaker 3 (17:16):
Yeah, I played American.

Speaker 2 (17:21):
We're hanging with Kyle Fisher for the first hour here.
We got a lot to discuss.

Speaker 4 (17:25):
We're staying in the world of baseball and speaking of
way too early conversations again, we'll go ahead and visit
the the divisions here and talk a.

Speaker 2 (17:33):
Little bit more about the or focus a little bit
more on the Braves and the Mets.

Speaker 4 (17:38):
But I do want to open it up as far
as where we're at right now early in the season
for you and when we talk about the awards. I
was reading an article on MLB dot com early cy
Young questions about the races, and I thought it was
a really good piece. Uh, Andrew Simon, go check that out.
Especially if you do wager on the awards, as a

(17:59):
lot of do. It's something to get involved in. The
only issue is it takes forever to catch those tickets.
But still an interesting conversation we had. If I had
to ask you as far as n L MVP, where
do you start the conversation.

Speaker 2 (18:13):
Who's jumping off the page at you?

Speaker 4 (18:14):
Eighteen games into the season so far, who's got Kyle
Fischer's eye?

Speaker 6 (18:18):
Oh, you start having conversation nationally getting paid with Shoo Tommy,
There's no question it doesn't matter. Even if he got
out to a slow start, which he hasn't, he still
has to be the number one choice, especially with the
possibility that comes back to pitch this year. If he
can put up anything remotely close to what he did
offensively last year and add solid pitching on top. He's

(18:39):
a runaway shoe in to win that award. But he's
also incredible if he doesn't pitch, so it's he's an
easy choice. I really think that Corbin Carroll has a
good shot to be.

Speaker 4 (18:48):
Bad big bounce back, big bounce back season so far,
and it's one that I discussed. It's one that I had,
but again I just felt like, all right, am I
really going to back up a guy like Corbyn Carroll
and put my money behind him when you know who's
at the top of the list as far as show
Hey is concerned. Oh, by the way, still is a
plus two twenty. Fernando Tatis is at five to one.

(19:09):
Corbyn Carrol not to steal your shine, tied with them
at this point in time on DraftKings at five to
one as well.

Speaker 6 (19:15):
Yeah, he's got six homers already, He's got speed at
the wazoo.

Speaker 3 (19:18):
He's an extra base hit machine.

Speaker 6 (19:20):
I don't know if he's going to give you thirty
to thirty five homers, but if he gives you twenty
eight home runs.

Speaker 3 (19:25):
Thirty five doubles and thirty five steals.

Speaker 6 (19:27):
I mean, that's an incredible season and worthy of being
one of the top vote getters. And then a guy
that I like a lot, that hot start contract year
is going to be the bell of the ball of
free agency this year, and he's playing like he knows
it is Kyle Tucker.

Speaker 3 (19:43):
I don't know how much of a long shot he is.
I know, preseason, I think he was plus nine hundred
seven to one, Okay, so seven to one for him.
I mean, the guy has gotten out to a.

Speaker 6 (19:54):
Really strong start, leading the Cubs to a really strong start,
and despite the fact that they started the year zero
to two over in Japan, they've come back like gangbusters.
What's his numbers right now? He's looking at five homers,
eighteen RBISA one dot zero two seven ops, hitting over
three hundred. I mean, the guy is on fire. He's

(20:17):
an outfielder, premium outfielder. He's going to be twenty nine
to start next season. He's in his year twenty eight seasons,
so you're looking at a.

Speaker 3 (20:25):
You know, eight to eleven year deal for this guy
in the offseason. He's playing like he earned it already.

Speaker 6 (20:30):
So if he can keep anything close to this up,
there's no way you can leave him out of the conversation.

Speaker 3 (20:35):
But it, like we said, it starts with showhey, the
guy is just a freak.

Speaker 4 (20:38):
Yeah, and again, just having some fun here on April
of sixteenth, But it is a fun conversation to have
as we all do pay attention to the award. Sorry,
American League. If I take Judge off the table, where
do you go from there?

Speaker 6 (20:52):
Bobby Witty, Bobby WIT's incredible dude. Is an amazing shortstop,
an amazing dude. I had the pleasure meeting him in
the offseason. He was at a Chiefs game where I
was on the sideline with Tracy Wolfs.

Speaker 3 (21:05):
I think it was the maybe in the AFC.

Speaker 6 (21:09):
Championship game, but anyway, he was there with Vinie Paspantino.

Speaker 3 (21:12):
Really nice guys. But taking that out of it, I
don't care how nice a guy is.

Speaker 6 (21:15):
I want to watch how good he is on the field,
and this guy is a pleasure to watch.

Speaker 3 (21:19):
Forty to forty potential.

Speaker 6 (21:20):
I don't know if he'll get there, especially with the
home runs, but you could see this guy finish the
season with eighty plus extra base hits again, close to
one hundred RBIs again and he's going to steal thirty
to forty bags, thirty to fifty bags maybe if he's
feeling good. So he's a guy who I would say,
is that's where I would start if you're pulling Judge

(21:41):
off the table from there, I mean Vlad Guerrero, he
already signed the contract, but if he is feeling himself.
He's a guy who's always in the conversation. And I
always I know he's always a dark horse, but I
always think Jose Ramirez has a really good shot of
being in that top three vote getting. He's a guy
who plays great defense at a premium position in third base.
He's gonna give you pop, he's going to give you speed,

(22:02):
He's not going to strike out a ton.

Speaker 3 (22:05):
I think he loses a little bit of luster because
he plays in Cleveland.

Speaker 6 (22:08):
Yes, I think that if he were on a on
a more mainstream team or a team that was easier
in contention every year because they seem to be in
the conversation despite trading away their stars.

Speaker 3 (22:19):
All the time.

Speaker 6 (22:20):
Jose Ramiers is a guy that you know, if you
want to throw a sprinkle on a longer shot, he's
the guy I would probably look at.

Speaker 4 (22:25):
Yeah, Bobby Wit junior too. I think he like Bobby Wit,
A lot of people do know how great he is. However,
if you put him in a different uniform, whether it's
on the West coast, whether it's on the East coast,
Red Sox Orioles like Kansas City is doing well right now.
That's Central is a tough division top to bottom. But
you're talking about two big names there that if they

(22:46):
were anywhere but their current positions or locations, I just
think we would know a ton more about them, speaking
more about them altogether.

Speaker 2 (22:56):
All right.

Speaker 3 (22:56):
We got kylein eighty eight extra basis last year.

Speaker 2 (22:59):
Insane.

Speaker 4 (23:00):
Absolutely all right, let's again talking a little awards quickly
over to the cy Young and I bring it up
because Zach Wheeler right now is nine to one plus
nine hundred.

Speaker 2 (23:10):
There are three pitchers in the National League that currently
have better odds.

Speaker 4 (23:13):
To win the cy Young. Again, only a few starts
handful of starts too into the season here, but Zach
Wheeler at nine to one, Schwellenbach is in front of him.
Hunter Green from the Reds is in front of him.
Of course, Paul Skins now Skeens is damn good.

Speaker 2 (23:28):
We know that.

Speaker 3 (23:30):
But Pittsburgh stinks.

Speaker 4 (23:31):
Pittsburgh stinks, and like nobody's in the ballpark, his strikeout totalism.
You know again, we're early. He is going to be dominate.
He's gonna have a couple of those starts. Is there
any way that we should be looking at somebody other
than Paul Skins in the nl CY Young Award.

Speaker 3 (23:48):
I mean, you can't go wrong with Zach Wheeler.

Speaker 6 (23:51):
He's He's had multiple top three finishes, top five finishes
in his Phillies career. I think that he's a guy
who's gonna be there. One guy who's intrigued me a
lot in the early season is Yamamoto for the Dodgers.
If he's healthy, if he continues to look like he
has in the early going this season, good number two.

Speaker 4 (24:08):
Kyle, good number sixteen plus sixteen hundred. There you go,
it's a nice number.

Speaker 3 (24:14):
Yeah. So I like Yamamoto a lot.

Speaker 6 (24:16):
He's been exciting to watch specifically, But the guy who
makes me drop my jaw the most watching his pall Skins.
It's really hard to pick somebody besides him right now.
The one person I would say who's probably not on
many current odds lists is Spencer Schreider. He got activated
for a start today when five strong scoreless innings, I

(24:36):
think that they're losing right now.

Speaker 3 (24:37):
But I don't think he gave up any runs. I
know that he went five plus in his first start today,
So I could be wrong with the with the score.

Speaker 2 (24:47):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (24:47):
If you know, they were trailed, they were down, they
were down two nothing, three nothing, whatever it was.

Speaker 2 (24:51):
It was two nothing in the seventh when we started
to show.

Speaker 6 (24:53):
Okay, So yeah, he but he's a guy who when
he's healthy, is always up there as far as obs.
He gave him two runs today, So but he's a
guy that I would always consider.

Speaker 3 (25:05):
He's so so good. The breaking pitch is nasty, he
plays it off.

Speaker 6 (25:11):
His fastball well, he's one of the first guys where
I remember of this next generation being like, oh.

Speaker 3 (25:18):
Like eye opening, Wow, this guy has electric stuff.

Speaker 6 (25:21):
So he's somebody that I would say, if if there's
good odds on him right now, since he wasn't healthy
to start the season, he's worth He's worth a look
for sure.

Speaker 4 (25:29):
Yeah. The Spencer Stryder as we're live doing this show
right now, he makes MLB strikeout history and braves ace
first major league start since two thousand and four UCL surgery.
I'm pulling this up now on CBS Sports.

Speaker 3 (25:51):
You know, what did he do?

Speaker 4 (25:52):
He delivered five innings and what else has served his
first appearance since missing Strider surrendered two runs in a
walk in five. It's including the solo home run of
Lack in the closing moments of his own. He struck
out five of the twenty one batters he faced, given
him five hundred for his career. All right, so he
struck out five, But again, you know the funny thing, Yeah, exactly.
I was listening to a conversation two nights ago on

(26:14):
MLB Network and they were asking, what would you say
is a perfect game from a pitching perspective if you
were a pitcher, would you rather go in there and
in every inning it's one pitch to each batter, three outs?

Speaker 2 (26:32):
So you know, boom, you do the do the math?

Speaker 4 (26:37):
Or is it three pitches, three strikes to every batter
and you mow down twenty seven strikeouts?

Speaker 3 (26:45):
Is that?

Speaker 2 (26:46):
I disagree? I disagree? Are you kidding me?

Speaker 4 (26:50):
Three pitches, three outs? There's nothing better than that.

Speaker 6 (26:56):
As a pitcher, as a team, I want the twenty
sea in and out and let's go light work. Get
us back out there hitting so we can destroy these guys.

Speaker 3 (27:04):
If I'm the picture, I want the glory.

Speaker 6 (27:06):
Yeah, if I know, If I know, by the end,
I'm on pace to get twenty seven. I'm going for
twenty seven on three pitches each. To me, that's the
that's only eighty one pitches.

Speaker 3 (27:14):
You're still not overworking. That's like a Greg Maddox sounding unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (27:17):
Fastest.

Speaker 4 (27:19):
Did you say he's the fastest of five hundred in
MLB history?

Speaker 6 (27:23):
Yeah, by innings pitch Spencer Strider is the fastest primarily
starting pitcher to reach five hundred strikeouts. No, and that's
missing a lot of time with an injury, right, so, yes,
already showing historic numbers. I mean, I'm watching a highlight
on Twitter right now. The quad's on the sky.

Speaker 3 (27:40):
I mean, how could you not.

Speaker 6 (27:43):
Be intimidated looking at that guy with the weird mustache
and the huge quads.

Speaker 3 (27:48):
Quad Talk guys, we'll.

Speaker 4 (27:49):
Have to make that a segment next time you're on
Quad Talk. I'm a guy that doubles. I will I
will eye up a lower half of a picture and
I will talk about the calfs with Mark prior. You know,
I've got I've gotten in these conversations before. I'm not scared.
I'm comfortable as a man. I'm a married man. I
do want to say this stuff. Dude, I think just

(28:11):
as as a as a man. That's straight. I just
want to give him some props. And I saw it
last night. Lozardo might be the most attractive player in
Philadelphia sports.

Speaker 2 (28:21):
Right now. That's an attractive dude last night.

Speaker 6 (28:26):
My goodness, I didn't think that there could be a
more handsome Philly than Nick.

Speaker 3 (28:30):
I'm saying this guy, I mean, come on.

Speaker 4 (28:33):
I saw a picture of him or a video of
him in the post game and I'm like, I like,
who the hell is that?

Speaker 2 (28:40):
That's Lozardo? I mean he looks like a male model.
He really does.

Speaker 3 (28:44):
He takes the specs off and you're like, dude.

Speaker 2 (28:45):
Yeah, yeah, good looking dude right there. See, Look, we're comfortable.
We're comfortable. We could speak game all day.

Speaker 3 (28:51):
That's a good looking team top the bottom.

Speaker 4 (28:53):
Currently Blue Jays are up three to nothing over the
Braves and uh or you know, over the Braves, and
that is in the seventh twins. Currently up over three
nothing over the Mets. That game is currently in the
eighth as well, staying in the division. Way too early
conversation to be had, but Mets showing some promise. Eleven
and six right now, Phillies ten and seven, Marlin's eight

(29:14):
and eight, NAT seven to ten, Braves five and twelve.
Let's start with the Braves. We went into this multiple times.
No team has ever started the season. I think oh
and seven made the playoffs. I didn't care about that.
A lot has changed in the game of baseball with
the addition of the playoff spot, wild cards, so on and
so forth.

Speaker 2 (29:32):
Like I would, I.

Speaker 4 (29:34):
Still believe that Braves are going to be fine, and
they will make a run and they will be close
to ninety wins after it's all said and done. Do
you agree with me on that? And if you don't,
I don't think you're on an island by yourself. They
dug themselves a pretty big grave at this point in time,
and they're five and twelve.

Speaker 2 (29:50):
You gotta hit the gas pedal eventually.

Speaker 6 (29:53):
Yeah, I think that I would have confidently said they
will be above ninety wins if they didn't have a
guy get suspended for eighty games and have their second
best pitcher before Schreider returned, have to get shoulder surgery
and potentially be.

Speaker 3 (30:08):
Out for the season.

Speaker 6 (30:09):
The rough start, plus losing the only guy you assigned
as a free agent in the offseason for eighty games,
plus los potentially losing Ronaldo Lopez for the entire season
is gonna make it really tough.

Speaker 3 (30:23):
That being said, Streider is a great replacement. You can't
get much better than that.

Speaker 6 (30:27):
And Akunya is coming back any day now, and I
think he's gonna when he comes back, he's gonna be
on fire.

Speaker 3 (30:34):
And I think that team really goes as he goes.
You think about two.

Speaker 6 (30:37):
Years ago when the Braves were looked like world beaters
right where everybody on their team was having a career
season and it was led by a forty seventy season
by Ronald Lacunya. He goes down last year, everybody looks rough.
He goes down this year again, everybody looks rough. So
they go as he goes. Despital the star power on
that team, and I think that once he gets back,

(30:57):
you're gonna see something similar with that. Teams are really
hot two months and puts themselves right back in the
middle of things in that NL least You.

Speaker 4 (31:05):
Know, it's funny because these are the conversations we had
all throughout the course of the off season. These are
the thoughts that we brought to the table. What's going
to plague this team?

Speaker 3 (31:14):
Right?

Speaker 2 (31:15):
And here we are with the Braves.

Speaker 4 (31:16):
It just feels like they're trying to figure it out
and it's early and the bats will get it going.
You saw them take two or three against the Phillies.
You know what that pitching staff is capable of. I
think they have a pretty good bullpen. There's a lot
to like about Atlanta the Mets. Over to the Mets,
I feel like they're playing way above my expectation. I

(31:40):
thought that they were going to be a good team.
I had to making the playoffs. But maybe I downplayed
the Mets a little bit too much. Where are we
at right now in your mind, Kyle, when it started
talking about the Mets, who are currently in first place
in the NL East.

Speaker 6 (31:54):
Yeah, I think they are playing above their heads a
little bit. Offensively, they're really strong team. It's not that
they are that I'm concerned about them offensively. It's more
that the pitching is a surprise to me. I thought
that their pitching moves were very weird in the off season.
It was a lot of guys that they were trying
to make work as opposed to guys that were guarantees.

(32:16):
And when you're spending the kind of money that you
spend on Monsto, you might as well just keep spending.
It was kind of my thought process. But they, I mean,
they're surviving. They have Clay Holmes throwing well as a starter.
He was a middling reliever, was one time a closer
for the Yankees and didn't pitch all that well. Kolde
I Senga being healthy is going to do a lot

(32:36):
for them. But like Tyler McGill, they're relying on Griffin
Canning and David Peterson.

Speaker 3 (32:43):
I don't know how long that lasts, right, Those are
guys that kind of.

Speaker 6 (32:48):
Not to insult these guys, but the general way I
think of them as like their waiver wire pickups in fantasy.

Speaker 3 (32:54):
That's a guy that I'm going to.

Speaker 6 (32:54):
Stream for a week because I need a two star
guy and he starts Monday and Saturday, right, Like, that's
not Griffin Canning isn't a guy I'm going to break,
make or break my season on. He's a guy that
I'm going to pick up for a week and let
go a week later for somebody else just like it. That's,
of course talking fantasy terms, and it's nice to have
some stability in depth there. But if your stability in
depth is a bunch of number three number four starters

(33:15):
and you're relying on code Is Sena to carry the
rest of the weight, well, we've seen how that happens
for teams elsewhere. You know, one guy can't really carry
things for an entire squad. But if Clay Holmes keeps
pitching this way, then what do I know? You know
that they clearly saw something that they liked, and I
was really surprised that they weren't one of the teams
to bring to really push to get Jose Kintana back.

(33:38):
I thought he pitched really well for them last year
and he's now Milwaukee Brewer. But like mcguill Holmes, Peterson,
that doesn't do anything for me, and I'd be shocked
if it continues to do what it's doing right now
for the Mets all season.

Speaker 2 (33:50):
Yeah, I'm right there with you on that. We'll see
how it plays out.

Speaker 4 (33:53):
Way too early, but these are fun conversations to have,
of course, Kyle Fisher riding with me here for the
first hour. Make sure you're following. Does a great job
over at the Philly Sports Network. You can find him
on socials at Kyle Fisher forty five. Kyle Fisher forty five.
I ever asked you why forty five?

Speaker 3 (34:11):
It was the jersey number when I was a vendor
at the stadium.

Speaker 2 (34:14):
See. Oh, great piece too about the dollar dogs.

Speaker 3 (34:18):
Appreciate that. Yeh.

Speaker 2 (34:19):
See.

Speaker 3 (34:19):
I wrote that last year.

Speaker 6 (34:21):
Sat down with an idea like this might be fun,
and then I like, I mean, I hate to say
this because it's overdone, but it's almost like I I lost.

Speaker 3 (34:29):
Myself while I was writing it, and then I was done.

Speaker 6 (34:31):
I was like, oh, that was a lot of that
was a lot of it built.

Speaker 3 (34:35):
I just put into that thing. That was crazy. I
put a little ode to. I'm a big fan of
the Dan Lebotard show. Sure they have a guy on.
There's a Miami Herald writer, Greg Cody.

Speaker 4 (34:44):
Oh yeah, Greg Cochy love Greg met a little met Greg.
Greg's a nice dude man, super super nice guy.

Speaker 6 (34:52):
Yeah, super so generous with his time for how for
how big shot he is, ye could could be.

Speaker 3 (34:58):
He's really generous with his time.

Speaker 6 (35:00):
But they do a rejoin when they come back from
commercial and they read something from one of his pieces,
and they laugh really hard at it because it's so
well written, like this was a throwaway piece about nothing,
Like if you wrote everything the way that you wrote
this one paragraph, you'd be like America's greatest author. And
I always thought it was funny to put stuff like
make this really flowery and wordy thing about something so stupid, right,

(35:24):
so I took the I took inspiration from that rejoin
for the final paragraph from.

Speaker 3 (35:30):
That piece and really loved it.

Speaker 2 (35:32):
Nice.

Speaker 3 (35:32):
Thanks man, I appreciate you. I give him that one
a shout though.

Speaker 2 (35:34):
Absolutely Man.

Speaker 4 (35:35):
In the Metro that's where you can find all the
Philly Sports Network's pieces over there. Great crew, and of
course Kyle does a bang up job covering all things Phillies.

Speaker 2 (35:48):
Let's keep it moving other side.

Speaker 4 (35:50):
As I said, we are nine days away from the
NFL Draft. I want to focus on a gentleman by
the name of Ashton Janet who was a pretty good
running back.

Speaker 2 (35:59):
Whereas he going to end up? And of course I
do want to point this out.

Speaker 4 (36:04):
We got a lock stock and barrel day of programming
coming your way at four o'clock, you are going to
hear Ryan Beatcoyle and Nick McLay discussed the upcoming NFL
Draft and they have some sleepers.

Speaker 2 (36:15):
To pay attention to. These guys have been.

Speaker 4 (36:17):
Crushing our draft coverage for us here on the Gambler,
So that's coming your way in the next hour at
five o'clock, NBA Playoffs are here. The playing games last
night lacked a little bit, but still was pretty cool
to see Jimmy Butler turned back to hands of time
in my opinion, and Steph Curry as well as they
beat the Memphis Grizzlies. Now they get the Houston Rockets,

(36:37):
but we got two more tonight. Anyways, Sean Benard joins
me at five o'clock live Picks and Roll coming your way,
talking all things NBA Playoffs. We'll look ahead to the
seven game series that are in the first round that
start on Saturday, but a heavy, heavy, heavy conversation about
what took place last night and the two games going
down tonight. At six o'clock. Yes, PGA Tour Baby front

(36:59):
and center. The Truest Championship is coming to the Philadelphia
Cricket Club and The Gambler will be broadcasting Live on
Thursday to get the party started, and it was announced.
It was announced today that the one and only Rory McRoy,
best player in the game of golf right now, will
be playing at the Truest Championship, So he will be there.

(37:20):
We're talking about this is gonna be an amazing event
and the Gambler will be front and center.

Speaker 2 (37:24):
Who can't wait for that? So swinging and ding it.

Speaker 4 (37:27):
We are not doing any of this without those guys
Moose Mays and Danielle of course, that's coming away at
six o'clock.

Speaker 3 (37:33):
And fell Temple alone.

Speaker 2 (37:35):
There you go.

Speaker 4 (37:36):
And last but not least, at seven o'clock we send
it back to Sham Bannard and Sam Austri. They did
a full NBA preview of the playoffs. I'm running it back.
It's too good just to play one day. It still
has shelf life, so we're gonna run that back at
seven o'clock where they previewed all the games. I just
snipped what took place last night, so to get a
little over their conversation about tonight and of course the

(37:56):
seven game series that are fast approaching.

Speaker 2 (37:58):
As far as all of those eight NBA Playoff matchups,
Kyle's hanging with me other side, a lot to do.
Do not go anywhere more. If this
