Edgar worries about his daughter's happiness and the future of his estate. He says that if marrying Linton would make Cathy happy, then he would give Heathcliff his revenge. Edgar's health continues to fall, and so does that of Linton. Eventually Edgar allows Cathy to meet Linton, not at the Heights, but on the moors, before the boy can succumb to his illness.
