#132. Life is hectic. Sometimes we simply need to stop for a moment. And that’s what this short episode is all about.

Oh, and the beautiful sounds of the Mediterranean Sea that I recorded when we were in Cyprus.

Welcome to The Silent Why podcast, here to help you navigate loss and grief, and possibly... find hope.

These very short, episodes will pop up every now and then to help you take a moment to check in and see how you're really feeling.

Less than 7 minutes total, including 2 minutes of time for you and you alone - join me (Claire Sandys, podcast host) in an imaginary place and allow yourself to press pause on life for a short while.

And for this episode, I'm asking you to sit on the beach with me in Cyprus, in front of the Mediterranean Sea, as the water laps at our feet, and just take a moment to pause.

Claire (00:03):
Hello, Welcome to the even more Silent Why podcast.
I don't think it's just methat's noticed how crazy and
stressful life feels nowadays.
It's tiring right?
Relentless, hectic hard work onall levels mentally, physically
, emotionally, spiritually.

(00:24):
There's pressure on all sides, even catching up with podcast
episodes.
So I've decided to help me asmuch as you.
I'm going to occasionally putout an episode to encourage,
slash, force you to do somethingthat we all need to do every
now and then Stop, Breathe, Bestill, Allow your mind two

(00:52):
minutes to just check in withyou.
You've probably experiencedlistening to a podcast with
adverts.
The advert comes on at a timewhen you can't fast forward
because you're stuck with yourhands in the washing up bowl
while you're in the shower oryou're driving and you're forced
to listen to the whole advert.
Well, I kind of hope you're inone of those situations now,
because I'm going to encourageyou to do something and feel
like you just have to do it.
Pretend there is no option tostop or fast forward, because I

(01:14):
want to give you just twominutes just for you.
Let's face it, you came to thisepisode expecting it to be at
least 30 minutes, so I know thatyou have two minutes free and
you know what, it might justmake all the difference to your
day.
In these short episodes, I'mgoing to transport you somewhere
different each time to comewith me and then just ask you to

(01:36):
think about one thing.
Today, I want you to sit withme by the edge of the crystal
clear sea in Cyprus as it lapson the sand, and you can feel
the warmth of the sun on yourskin, and this is where we're
going to process today'squestion.
So take a moment to just turnyour focus inward and start with

(02:00):
three deep breaths.
Now, over the next two minutes,I want you to ask yourself what

(02:26):
brought you joy recently.
It might be a very easy thing toidentify and dwell on.
Maybe there are so many things.
You'll need to work to find onething that brought you the most
joy, that really tapped intothe essence of who you are and
brought you a smile, a laugh oreven happy tears.
It might be really hard tosearch for something that
brought you joy recently.

(02:46):
Maybe you don't rememberanything that made you smile,
brought a small glimmer to yourday or just allowed you a brief
moment of joy.
You might have to work evenharder to find it, latch onto it
and notice it for what it is.
It might not be something likea child's laughter, a funny
moment with family, a bigromantic gesture or a moment of
love from another human.

(03:06):
Maybe it was something verysmall just going right.
Maybe something fell out of thecupboard and you caught it and
for a moment you felt like youwere winning again.
Maybe someone smiled at you andyou just appreciated being seen
.
Maybe you drew strength fromsomewhere you didn't know you
had it and for a brief secondyou felt strong.
Maybe you stopped to smell aflower as you walked down the

(03:26):
street, or something in yourgarden.
Maybe your neighbour's gardenbloomed and you took a moment to
appreciate it.
Maybe you looked out on a darknight and had a glimpse of the
full moon.
Maybe you looked at the sky andwondered at the colours or the
cloud formations.
However easy or hard it is tofind your moments of joy, I want
you to ask yourself thequestion and wait See what the

(03:48):
answer is.
It might surprise you or besomething that you'll take more
notice of in the future orappreciate more.
So what brought you joyrecently?

(05:51):
From me for joining me.
But also there'll be parts ofyour own body and mind that are
grateful that you stopped tonotice them and just check in.
Whatever it is you identify, don't let it go without doing
something with it.
Recognising emotions is apowerful way to understand
ourselves better, feel more incontrol and improve our

(06:11):
emotional intelligence.
Matt Haig said you are not yourfeelings, you just experience
them Anger, sadness, hate,depression, fear.
This is the rain.
You walk in, but you don'tbecome the rain.
You know the rain will pass andyou walk on, and you remember
the soft glow of the sun thatwill come again.
