(01:06):
Hello and welcome to anotherepisode of Transformative Living
Radio.
I'm Andre Flax, your host andcertified life and leadership
coach.
You know James Allen's book asa man Thinketh is more than just
a self-help manual.
It's a philosophical guide forliving a noble and
(01:28):
purpose-driven life.
James Allen's central theme ormessage is that your mind is a
garden, You're eithercultivating flowers or letting
weeds grow.
So in this episode we want toexplore the core teachings of as
a man Thinketh.
We also want to explore howyour thoughts shape your reality
(01:49):
and then provide five practicalstrategies to help you
reprogram your thinking forsuccess, happiness and inner
peace.
So let's begin by unpacking someof his major teachings.
The first teaching is thoughtand character are one.
Now Alan teaches that we arewhat we think.
(02:10):
Our character, our tendencies, reactions, habits and even our
destiny they're all shaped byour dominant thoughts.
Just as a plant springs fromand cannot exist without a seed,
your actions and lifecircumstances spring from the
seeds of thought.
Another teaching is that ourcircumstances do not make the
(02:33):
man, they reveal him.
Now, this is a powerful reframe.
Life doesn't just happen to us,life happens through us.
External events don't define us.
How we respond to those eventsdoes Allen believed that we
attract the circumstances.
(02:53):
That corresponds most with thethoughts we habitually hold.
Now, a third teaching was youare the master of your destiny.
You are the master of yourdestiny.
Now, according to James Allen,no one is a victim of fate.
Even if we can't controleverything that happens around
us, we can control what happenswithin us and that changes
(03:21):
everything.
The power of purposeful thinkingis another major teaching of
James Allen's.
Clear, purposeful thought leadsto clear, purposeful action.
When you think with intention, you live with intention.
Finally, calmness is power.
A mind that is calm andcentered is a mind that can
think clearly, act wisely andcreate harmoniously.
(03:42):
Allen describes calmness not asa weakness, but as the ultimate
expression of strength.
Now let's bridge Allen's ideaswith what we know from modern
positive psychology.
You see, research shows thatthe brain is plastic.
It can rewire itself.
Your thoughts literally shapethe neural pathways in your
(04:05):
brain.
Here's what I mean.
Your beliefs become your filter.
You see, if you believe theworld is against you, you will
subconsciously find evidence tosupport that belief.
But if you believe that theworld is filled with opportunity
, you'll see possibilities whereothers see problems.
(04:25):
Now here's another thing toconsider your thoughts
influences your emotions.
Repeated negative thoughts likeI'm not good enough or nothing
ever works out can create afeedback loop of negativity,
sadness or hopelessness.
Now, on the other hand, positive thoughts can elevate
(04:46):
your mood, fuel resilience andboost your overall sense of
well-being.
Finally, thoughts precedebehavior.
Every action begins as athought.
Think better and you'll actbetter.
Act better and you'll livebetter.
So now that we understand thepower of our thoughts, let's
talk about how to intentionallyprogram your mind for a life of
(05:09):
positivity, productivity andpurpose.
Strategy number one is thoughtauditing.
Now, this is about takinginventory of your thoughts
throughout the day.
When you do this, you askyourself things like is this
thought empowering me ordraining me?
Another question would be is itbased on fear or on possibility
(05:33):
?
Now, one thing you could do isuse a journal or a voice memo to
catch your reoccurring thoughtpatterns.
The key is awareness beforechange.
See, you can't shift what youdon't notice.
Now, strategy number two isdaily mental rehearsal.
Visualize your desired outcomesdaily.
(05:54):
Top athletes do this, and socan you.
Spend five to 10 minutes eachmorning imagining your ideal
self, living your ideal day.
Engage all of your senses, seeit, hear it and feel it.
The more vividly you rehearsesuccess, the more your brain
(06:15):
begins to believe it's possibleand acts accordingly.
Strategy number three is toutilize affirmations that
resonate with you.
You see, affirmations work whenthey are specific, believable
and emotionally charged.
I use affirmations also on adaily basis.
Now, an example of a goodaffirmation would be I'm
(06:36):
becoming more confident andcapable every day.
Now, with your affirmations, you want to speak them out loud,
you want to feel the truth ofthem and you want to anchor your
affirmations to a purpose thatexcites you.
Strategy number four is to feedyour mind with positivity.
You see, your mind becomes whatyou feed it, so limit your
(06:58):
exposure to negativity, whetherit's the news, toxic social
media or energy draining people.
Instead, fill your day withuplifting podcasts, inspiring
books or even empoweringconversations.
To quote James Allen, you willbecome as small as your
controlling desire or as greatas your dominant aspiration.
(07:21):
Now, strategy number five ismeditate and reflect.
Quiet the noise in your head, make space for new thoughts to
emerge.
To do this, start with justfive minutes of daily meditation
.
You may want to focus on yourbreath or a positive mantra.
Afterwards, reflect, askyourself questions like what
(07:45):
thoughts came up, what do I needto release or what do I want to
plant in my mental garden?
You see, james Allen believedthat heaven or hell begins in
the mind.
The quality of your thoughtsdetermine the quality of your
life.
One of his famous lines fromthe book was quote you are today
(08:05):
where your thoughts havebrought you.
You'll be tomorrow where yourthoughts take you.
You see, you're not a prisonerof your past.
You are a gardener of yourfuture, and every thought is a
seed.
So plant them wisely, nurturethem and choose thoughts of
courage, purpose, gratitude andgrowth, and watch how your life
(08:27):
begins to reflect the garden ofyour mind.
Now, if this message resonateswith you, I challenge you to try
just one of these strategiesthis week.
Start small, but startintentionally, and if you'd like
to go deeper, I encourage youto revisit as a man Thinketh,
read it slowly and reflect oneach chapter.
