Fiona Cauley is a stand-up comedian–unusual in many ways, including that she doesn’t stand up.
Cauley suffers from Friedrich’s ataxia, a degenerate form of muscular dystrophy. She was walking in high school, she started college with a cane and ended with a walker. Now, the 26-year-old comedian is in a wheelchair, which is the inspiration for much of her act.
“People love hearing stories about my dating life and just the way being a single young woman in a wheelchair and how men tried to interact with that,” said Cauley. “It’s really awkward dating in 2022. It’s hard. But dating on the internet in a wheelchair, there’s a lot you have to say up front so things are going to get weird.”
