The New World Pictures Podcast is dedicated to every movie released by New World Pictures. We talk about the things we loved and the things we hated along with the detailed history of each film's history and production. Founded by the infamous Roger Corman, New World Pictures was responsible for the greatest genre and exploitation films of the 1970's and 1980's. Remember all those movies that lived proudly in the Action, Horror, Comedy and Sci-Fi isles of the video store? Titles like Death Race 2000, Hellraiser, Heathers and Piranha. They were all made by New World Pictures. In addition to talking about the films themselves, we talk with the Writers, Producers and Directors who worked with New World Pictures.
Sci-fi July: An Infinity of Titles has landed! Listeners Sci-fi July is going to out of this world this month starting with a banger 1986's sci-fi western, THE AURORA ENCOUNTER. We are joined this week by special guest James Kirkland making his NWPP debut. James is a comedian, actor, author of the The Bill Walton Mysteries series of books, and you may have seen or heard his work on his podcast: MicroDrama Doses, where h...
The time has come, dear listeners. The end of June Gloom 2: Down to Frown. We hope you enjoyed this annual, well, bi-annual -okay, occasional - trip into the dark abyss of the "saddies" released by New World Pictures. And for our closing film, do we have a sad film for you: 1978's AUTUMN SONATA aka HÖSTSONATEN, written and directed by Ingmar Bergman, and starring Ingrid Bergman, Liv Ullmann and Lena Nyman. It's a real Bergman...
A bucket list guest, director Fritz Kiersch, returns with the second half of our conversation that covers his move from the commercial world to the New World (ahem) of features starting with 1984's CHILDREN OF THE CORN and continuing with 1985's TUFF TURF as Fritz continued to deliver success after success for New World Pictures. And because the movies Fritz directed were so well received, he was one of the few director...
June Gloom 2: Down to Frown is upon us dear listeners, and things are dark. Lucky for you, and us, we are joined this week by special guest and NWPPVIP Tommy Bechtold! Tommy is a comedian, and actor, and if you have been fortunate enough to see Tommy perform stand up or listened to our episodes on DEF-CON 4, BEVERLY HILLS VAMP, TRIAL OF THE INCREDIBLE HULK, you know he is hilarious. Truly a ray of sunshine in this other...
June Gloom 2: Down to Frown is officially underway, and we are kicking it off with the 1980 British drama RICHARD'S THINGS, starring Liv Ullmann and Amanda Redman.
RICHARD'S THINGS is the story of Kate, a woman whose husband Richard has the decency to die before the movie even really gets going, leaving behind his things — and, as Kate slowly pieces together, his mistress. What follows is a methodical, quivering-lipped j...

Stitched together with five episode of the Spider-Man Animated Series and released on home video, SECRET WARS sees Spidey go up against The Beyonder and Madame Web in a test to see if good can triumph over evil! Why did The Beyonder have to transport Spi...
We continue Marc’s Miserable Marvelous May 4: EVER! with an interview that dives deep into our Nearly New World selection from last week: 1995's BLACK SCORPION! Yes, we talk with screenwriter Craig J. Nevius about his career from writing plays in high school to casting Brad Pitt in his debut feature, 1989's HAPPY TOGETHER, to his beginnings with Roger Corman writing 1991's KISS ME A KILLER to 1994's FANTASTIC FOUR and, ...
Marc's Miserable Marvelous May takes a turn towards Sexy Town with 1995's Black Scorpion. We're joined by Joan Severance super-fan and host of Get Me Another Podcast, Chris Iannacone. Made for Showtime, Black Scorpion is the first in a series of made-for-cable movies and a series. As Chris wisely points out, "it's Batman for Skinamax".
Black Scorpion may not be what you're expecting and that's what makes it ...
It's that time of year again, the time Marc dreads: Marc's Miserable Marvelous May, where we torture the non-superhero loving Marc with all the Marvel content produced while New World Pictures owned Marvel! In previous years we discussed The Incredible Hulk, the Punisher, even Power Pack, but now it's time to discuss the misfits of Marvel, The X-Men for our 4th installment of making Marc's life a superpowered living hell!
We continue to celebrate #100YearsofCorman by pushing the boundaries of our "Nearly New World" sub-series to 1993, when Roger Corman decided to beat JURASSIC PARK at its own game and made his own dinosaur movie, CARNOSAUR! Joining us for this episode is author Joseph R. Palinkas, the writer of the new book, History of Carnosaur, which delves into the entire CARNOSAUR franchise of films, which also includes DINOSAUR ISLAND and...
In this episode, we take you behind the curtain behind the curtain as we talk to former New World Pictures executive Jonathan Wolf, who was a Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of New World International from 1986 to 1990! We discuss Jonathan's time working at new World, the company's philosophy, and his insights on what Larry Kuppin and Harry Sloan had in mind when they purchased New World from Roger Corman in 1983. ...
At long last, here's our episode on 1981's GHOSTKEEPER! If you picked up the Blu-ray from Canadian International Pictures that was released earlier this year, you may have already heard our track discussing the film with Rue Morgue writer, Terror Vision contributor, film programmer, and podcaster Yasmina Ketita! But even if you have, here's a longer version of that recording with even more discussion about Canadian director J...
This week on the New World Pictures Podcast, we explore the “hills” of Chicago as seen in this action crime feature 1975's CAPONE, a movie New World Pictures nearly released! Join us as we analyzing its unique (and questionable) perspective and the overwhelming number of characters, spoiler alert, most of whom are barely introduced! Starring Ben Gazzara (SAINT JACK) as a both young and old Al Capone (though, mostl...
Now in it's sixth year, we celebrate Roger Corman's birthday by watching films from his directing history, and this year, we brought in a special guest: filmmaker and author Kier-La Janisse! Kier-La is a badass! Not just because she wrote the book House of Psychotic Women: An Autobiographical Topography of Female Neurosis in Horror and Exploitation Films, or because she directed and produced the documentary WOODLANDS DARK AND...
To close out #MarchMadness 2: Let's Get Nuts, we had to go to the Light - Judith Light - with this made-for-TV movie co-starring an incredible cast of TV stars: Rhea Perlman (Cheers) and Jimmy Smits (L.A. Law)! Yes, we lost our minds watching DANGEROUS AFFECTION aka STAMP OF A KILER (as New World would release it on VHS), a New World Television production that stars Light as a pregnant children's book author (and illustrator,...
We continue the madness of #MarchMadness 2: Let's Get Nuts! with a movie that pretty much everyone involved in the making didn't like. We're talking about 1975's CRAZY MAMA - a sort of sequel to BIG BAD MAMA and BLOODY MAMA. According to that argument, any movie with MAMA in it is also a sequel.
CRAZY MAMA stars Academy Award winner, Cloris Leachman and two people from HAPPY DAYS - Donny Most (Ralph Malph) and Lind...
We kick off #MarchMadness 2: Let's Get Nuts! with a movie that has many titles: MANIAC!, ASSAULT ON PARADISE, THE TOWN THAT CRIED TERROR, and RANSOM! At one point in time, Roger Corman released the film with all these titles but kept the story the same: Oliver Reed (THE BROOD) goes to town to stop a madman (Paul Koslo, THE ANNIHILATORS) who is intent on killing a rich land owner (Stuart Whitman from New World's CRAZY MAMA) un...
We are saying goodbye to Foreign Film February (or #FFF for the insiders) with a bang (or is it a clang?) with 1972's SEVEN BLOWS OF THE DRAGON and 1972's THE WATER MARGIN. Is this episode the podcast equivalent of a double feature? Not really. You see, some of us watched SEVEN BLOWS OF THE DRAGON and one of us watched THE WATER MARGIN. And while SEVEN BLOWS OF THE DRAGON and THE WATER MARGIN are essentially...
We continue Foreign Film February, or “FFF” with the King of T&A himself, Federico Fellini! Based on his childhood in Remini, Italy, AMARCORD is a weird blend of memories, characters, and farts! Is it a classy teen film? A condemnation of fascism? A variety of shots of boobs and butts? It's all three and so much more!
Joining us is comedian and writer Ali Davis, who has really had to suffer through some o...
We are kicking off another Foreign Film February, or "FFF", which has become a colloquialism at Haus der New World Pictures Podcast. Is that not the case in your home? If it isn't, it's time to start. To kick off the 2026 #FFF, we are talking about 1987's SUBWAY TO THE STARS, a Brazilian drama that, if you looked at the poster, is nowhere close to what you would expect.
SUBWAY TO THE STARS explores a t...
