"And believe me, the sweet potato pie was so good that if you was to step in it and walk through it, you could feel it between your toes and you would just sense that aroma from that pie and it would just, you know, melt in your mouth. It was that good. My grandmother had some of the best old fashioned recipes that were available today for bacon and making certain things. Just about anything...

"My mom passed away 24 years ago. It'll be 25 in a month. Almost a quarter of a century she's been gone. And there is so much I want to say to her and wish I could see her to say it. How much I love her and how much I am sorry that I took her for granted as a teenager, because I know she did the best for me and I know she loved me. But I was really harsh on her and I shouldn't have been...

"Whether it takes me one day, a month, a year. I'm not where we both want me to be. But God is with me. And I love you, Mom. Be strong like I keep telling you. You're alive. God is keeping you alive for a reason. And be strong. We love you. You're not just my mom. You're a jaja. Your grandma. It's your grandpa. You know."

"It's not really a bad day per se, but it's a day that I sit and I reflect a little bit because I'm just gonna say I was the product of an affair. My biological parents were never married. I, like I said, I was the product of essentially what was what I believe a one night stand. And that obviously you can, you know, maybe think of what might, you know, lead. What might lead. Let me back ...

"Wow. I mean, I think I could say so much about my mom. I just love her so much. And I think I'm trying to think about what lesson my mom would like me to say I got from her. I know that my mom and I are very, very similar people. So I think she's influenced me in so many ways that are completely unconscious and that I don't even realize that she's done."

"What a beautiful question. I think everything and anything that I am today is because of her. The woman taught me to be resilient, to be resolute, to be kind, to be humble, to be able to say, I don't know. I think that is the biggest thing that I learned from her. Her level of humility in admitting that she's wrong. It doesn't matter whether she was apologizing to a person much young...

"And I feel, if I look at life, I feel pretty fortunate because homemaking is a. Is a noble profession. It's really gotten a lot a bad rap in the last 50 years. But what is more noble than caring for the next generation? Nothing. Nothing. Nothing's more noble than that because you're. You're shaping soul, you're shaping lives. I mean, Stalin knew that. Give me a handful of children and. And I ...

"You know, I don't think my mother really ever found out who she truly was, but I really do think that she wanted her children in her heart to know who they are and to stand up on it. But, you know, the laughter and just being able to understand everybody, no matter the situation, that's something I inherited from both my parents."

"Today, I stand tall because of her strength, her wisdom, her love. She is no longer with me physically, but her guidance, her courage, her soul. Live in everything I do. And I want to say louder, …. Maa!! you are my forever inspiration."

"If you're ever in California, you can pick up a Able Skeever pan in person in the town of Solvang. It's a really lovely place to visit. They've got a ton of wine tasting rooms and also a lot of traditional I believe it's Dutch, you know, delicacies, desserts, dinners, etc. You can order one online for sure, but if you're in the area, I would definitely recommend going to Solvang."

"And we could play in our rooms, we could play in the backyard, even in our basement, we could play. But the living room was supposed to be kept clean for company. So that way you didn't have to get ready. You stayed ready, if you will. But also our presentation, going outside, you know, we wouldn't go outside in pajama pants. Never. We wouldn't go outside with hair rollers in our hair. Ou...

"This is not a typical tradition, and I don't even think you can categorize it as a tradition, but it's something that she ended up doing that we've adopted now and has slowly turned into a tradition in my family. I lost my mom when I was 16, so about 10 years ago. But one of the things I always remember about my mom is that she loved to celebrate any milestone, anything big or small. She just ...

"As every year passed since my dad passed, she got stronger and stronger and stronger, and her resolve to be alive was clear. And her embracing of her limitations also has been part of that resilience for me, because she's definitely not the woman she was when my dad died. Her things are changing. Her body's changing, her hearing is changing. Circumstances have changed that might push someon...
