Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is on with Mario Lopez.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Alright, here we go, Mario Lopez back by on the
Michael B. You'll had a great weekend fun show. Today
I'm be hanging out with actor in comic Patton Oswald.
He just wrapped up his first game show, The One
Percent Club. But I also want to ask him about
his new sci fi series, Shatter Belt. We're also going
to get to your comments, so hit up my mentions.
Now you're on with Mario Lopez. Jo Mario, Courtney's Lopez.
(00:25):
Let's put a spotlight on my wife, and it's time
for Courtney's random question, which you got?
Speaker 3 (00:29):
Honey?
Speaker 4 (00:29):
What do you think is the most underrated and overrated
of the four seasons?
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Well, Frankie Valley's my favorite four seasons. He's definitely underrated.
Oh you mean the uh, the actual actual seasons. Okay,
nobody laughed, but Kyle, thank you, Kyler, appreciation of the year.
I appreciate that because it wasn't we got it? Wow, Wow, that's.
Speaker 4 (00:50):
You know what you're rude to me with my jokes
fail in Europe.
Speaker 5 (00:54):
Kyle thought it was funny, and he's a comic the
most to be fair. George Lopez also.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
Calls him self a comics. Uh no comment, but Kyle's funny.
The most overrated season wait, what are they?
Speaker 6 (01:08):
Winter? Fall?
Speaker 2 (01:11):
Winter? Springs? That I got to remember there's four seasons,
hence the four seasons. The most overrated season is spring,
and I'm gonna tell you why because that's when alleryies
kick in and springtime in California is very different from springtime.
And say Chicago, as we learned this last year when
we shot our movie, it was snowing in Chicago during spring.
(01:36):
So that is highly overrated. Underrated is fall. I know
winter gets a lot of love, but fall autumn, it's
like the perfect temperature pretty much everywhere, like the trans Well,
that's it's nice everywhere you go during fall. It could
be California, it could be Florida, it can be Texas.
It's it's that's a nice time year. Springs tricky.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
More Mario Lopez, coming up.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
Maria Lopez. Let's take a look at what's on TV today.
What do we got? CBS premiere is Papa's House.
Speaker 5 (02:04):
Damon Wayans is a divorce radio DJ who is still
parenting his adult son, Damon Wayans Junior, his actual son.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
I like a father's son combo. This is Rob Lowe
and his Son Part two, okay, and both of them
are hilarious.
Speaker 5 (02:18):
So nice FX has the sixth and final season of
What We Do in the Shadows. Germo gets a new job,
forcing the Vampires to bring in a new roommate.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
The Empires are out here having roommates.
Speaker 5 (02:27):
Well, that's a tough economy. Discovery Premiere's contraband seized at
the airport. This focus is on the US Customs and
Border Protection Agency.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
Well, that could be pretty interesting. Actually, the stuff that
people try to smuggle and actually get away with its fascinating.
Mario Lopez here, and let's take a look at what's
trending on the iHeart radio app.
Speaker 5 (02:47):
Matthew Mcconaughe's wife Camilla talks about her journey from house
cleaner to entrepreneur. You can find that by searching the
bright Side.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
Oh very cool, right?
Speaker 5 (02:55):
Fat Now Skinny Joe talks about how his feuds with
fifty cent and jay Z cost a millions. You can
listen to that by searching for Club Shah.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Shout out the Fat Joe too, who lost four hundred pounds.
That's insane. That's two very large people.
Speaker 5 (03:10):
That's crazy and Danny Treo told us about hanging out
with Robert de Niro on the set of Heat. You
can hear that by searching for on with Mario.
Speaker 6 (03:19):
Yo, Mark Cordy Lopez.
Speaker 2 (03:20):
Let's get to your comments, which you find, honey.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
This is from at Ford Live and they said, Mario
Lopez from Saved by the Bell is about to speak
to the country's top real estate brokers. I'm just waiting
for him to call a timeout mid Market Analysis.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
Hey, Ford Live. I actually spoke to them this morning
and I did not call a time out, but I
did have what I thought was a pretty funny real
estate anecdote and joke in there. It got some laughs
before they gave me the speech, and it was mid
are you putting me on the spot?
Speaker 6 (03:53):
Now?
Speaker 2 (03:54):
I have to remember it was in the time, the
greatest antidote. You don't have the speech in front of me,
quick breaking, my chums. I'm scarred for the record. Zach
Morris was the one that called timeouts on the show.
Not not my character, but I do like to call
them ount in real life.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
Get us up on Twitter and on with Mario and
hang on more. Mario Lopez on the Wet.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
Mario Lopez here just a few songs away from today's guest.
It's actor in comic Patton Oswald. He's got a lot
going on game show called The One Percent Club, a
sci fi series called Shatter Belt, even a western. We're
gonna find out all about it.
Speaker 6 (04:27):
Coming him next.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
You're Mario Lopez don't even know on Zoom for the
new sci fi series shatter Belt, actor in comic Patton Oswell.
Speaker 6 (04:36):
Welcome to the show man. How are you good? Good?
Speaker 2 (04:38):
Thanks for having me on Man, Well, I appreciate you
taking the time. Last time we hung out, we were
actually in person in New York. You were talking about
your new game show that you host, The One Percent Club,
first time as a game show host, I believe what
what were your thoughts.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
I was very very nervous going in, only because I
thought that there were a million things that you have
to keep in mind.
Speaker 6 (05:03):
But once we did.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
The first couple of shows, it became really clear that
it's just crowd work and I'm just talking to people,
getting their stories, riffing on them and then answering the
questions is up to them. Like I always thought, Oh,
these hosts have got to be on no it's on
cards and monitors for you. I can operate at my
normal level of intelligence and still come off as very,
(05:27):
very smart.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
That's a perfect way to describe it. It is crowd work.
Just got to remember the rules and keep it moving along.
But you're exactly right. They got to know the answers.
You're not to know anything.
Speaker 6 (05:37):
It's for pressures off of youth. Thank god.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
Well, the one Percent Cloud is streaming now on Amazon.
We've got a lot to talk about, but right now
we got to play some music. Jar Al Mario Lopez.
My guest today is Paton Oswald, and you've got a
lot going on. Man, I like the diversity though. You've
got a new series. Congrats, tell me about Shatter Belt.
Speaker 6 (05:55):
Shatter Belt is, oh man, this thing.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
It's like you've seen Black Mirror, the Twilight Zone, those
kind of It's an anthology series right now. It's four
episodes to its own self contained story. And the guy
that wrote and directed them it's a guy named James
Ward Burkett who made a movie called Coherence, which is
one of my favorite science fiction films for the last
ten years. Is a deaf, truly mind bending movie. And
(06:21):
he then took more ideas and put them into each
of these. One is about a high end dining experience.
One is about what happens if everything becomes automated? Like
what he just takes an idea and goes how far
can I go with this in terms of embracing Oh,
(06:42):
well everything's automated, Well then what does that do to us?
Speaker 6 (06:45):
And they're funny but also.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
Kind of nightmarish, especially the the Fine Dining episode. I
would I'm not trying to overhype it. Maybe don't eat
before you watch that episode.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
The Fine don okay, and yours is the specimen? Is
that the Fine Dining one?
Speaker 6 (07:05):
No, no, no, The Fine Dining one is called pearls
Mine is about what is going to last into the future,
What is going to be remembered, What does being famous
and historically remembered actually mean? And what is the price
for that? Oh that's deep.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
I'm gonna leave it at that. But it's very they're
all very twisty, very fun. This here's what's frustrating. It's
very hard to talk about the show without spoiling things,
right right.
Speaker 2 (07:35):
Right, I get it. That was a good tease though.
That was a good teaser episode.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
I'm amazing but I don't want to spoil it. And
that's a fine line, man.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
Yeah, I know you. You balance that well and you
got me, uh, you got me wanting to check it
out now. Shatter Belt is available on digital and on demand.
Gonna take a break, We're gonna have more with Patton Osweald.
Speaker 1 (07:50):
Or Mario Lopez.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
Mario Lopez here with Patton Oswald, who's got so many
projects in the fire. And this is cool. Man Again,
I like the diversity. I'm a big fan of westerns
and you got one from Kurt Sutter called the Abandons.
That's that sounds really cool. Why they are you?
Speaker 3 (08:06):
Are you?
Speaker 6 (08:06):
Are you a cowboy? I? You know what.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
I'm not gonna say what I am, but I will say,
oh no, I can't spoil things. Basically, you know, think
of sons of anarchy mayans that kind of mindset and
that level of violence and tension, and then transport it
back to the Old West, which, by the way, is
(08:31):
kind of how the Old West was.
Speaker 6 (08:33):
It was a very violent, tense crazy absolutely.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
Wait, I'm in I love that. And so is it
a movie? Is it it's a series?
Speaker 6 (08:41):
It is a series.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
If you like stuff like Deadwood, Yes, and if you
like Sons of Anarchy, I guarantee you're gonna love this show.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
Oh I man, what's what's it on?
Speaker 3 (08:53):
It's gonna be on Netflix, okay and coming out next year.
And the calf that it's Jillian Anderson and Leanna Hetty
are combating matriarchs fighting for power.
Speaker 6 (09:06):
Oh good god, does it get bloody?
Speaker 2 (09:10):
That's aggressive? All right, We're going to be looking for
the abandons on Netflix. Hang on, Patton got to play
more music. Mario Lopez here my guest. Today's actor in
comic Patton Oswald and a comic book that you create
as being adapted to Netflix.
Speaker 3 (09:25):
Yes, I have with Dark Horse called Minor Threats, which
is about D level super villains kind of fighting for
their place in the world against A level heroes and
A level villains. And yeah, Netflix is adapting it for
a series. This week, the second trade paperback comes out.
(09:45):
Plus now there's writers are pitching us offshoots from the World.
We've had one come out called The Alternates. We have
a new one called Barfly. Issue three comes out this Wednesday,
about a human fly hybrid who also exists.
Speaker 6 (09:59):
In this world Henchman.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
He's a henchman without anyone to hench for. So he's
trying to figure out where do I exist.
Speaker 6 (10:05):
In this world?
Speaker 3 (10:06):
And it's just it has been a blast writing these
books and doing this stuff.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
That sounds fun and funny.
Speaker 6 (10:13):
Yes it is.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
They're both there. They're fun, they're funny, they're tragic. They
are action filled, really good low level super villain noir
crime stuff.
Speaker 6 (10:25):
I love it.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
Low level crime.
Speaker 6 (10:27):
That's awesome.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
All right, we got more to talk about, but right now,
let's keep the music going. Jean Mario Lopez been hanging
out all hour with Patton Oswald. Now, I'm a big
fan of The Mandalorian. And is it true the pilot
was inspired by your speech on Parks and Rec.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
Well, they the opening shot and if you go on TikTok,
apparently people have made videos where they put them side
by side and they match.
Speaker 6 (10:50):
But it's yeah, my monologue on Parks and.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
Rec they match up the beginning of it to the
beginning shot of The Mandalorian, which is Twins of Tattooine.
Speaker 6 (11:00):
We panned down. Yeah, yeah, his glove comes up.
Speaker 3 (11:03):
They literally match up, like they saw if you watch
them side by side, And they did that on purpose.
Speaker 6 (11:08):
But a trip.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
That's very cool. R I got to take quick break
and we're gonna come back and wrap it up. Patton Oswald.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
You're the full interview now at On with Mario Doug
More Mario Lopez on the way.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
Mario Lopez, you're rapping things up with today's guest, Patton Oswald.
And you have one child, right, you have a daughter.
Speaker 6 (11:25):
I got a daughter who is now fifteen.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
Uh uh you have kids, right, Yes, yeah, I got
a few of them. I got a fourteen year old
daughter too.
Speaker 1 (11:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (11:34):
Oh my god.
Speaker 3 (11:34):
Yeah, so the we are well into the I rolling
phase of being a daddy daughter.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
I'm not a I didn't call me dad anymore. Everything's bro, bro.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
Oh she called me dude and that Oh my god.
Did that not land right, which is like, I was cool.
It is pretty good, dude.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
Oh no, no, no, no no, she literally texts me bro,
come get. I'm like, oh no, no, no, no, we're not
That is uh the worst but the best at the
same time, Hey, congrats on everything, pat and it's awesome
all the stuff you've got going on. And meanwhile, Shatter
Belt is available now on digital and on demand. Paton,
thanks for hanging out, man.
Speaker 6 (12:13):
Hey, thanks for having me on. Good to see you again, man, you.
Speaker 2 (12:15):
Too, buddy, Mario Lopez here and I heard radio has
your official soundtrack for spooky season. Halloween Radio is back
with Hiss throwbacks and scary anthems. Just search Halloween Radio
(12:38):
on the iHeartRadio Happen while you're there. Search for my
personal Halloween R and B party list. Oh, Mario, Courtney Lopez,
let's get today's birthday shout outs. We're gonna try to
guess the ages. Who do we got? Doja cats paint
the town red? Ah see?
Speaker 6 (12:54):
Go ahead?
Speaker 4 (12:56):
Doja is twenty seven?
Speaker 2 (13:01):
Doose just twenty five, twenty nine?
Speaker 4 (13:03):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (13:04):
Kim Kardashian from Keeping Up with the Kardashians forty three.
Speaker 4 (13:08):
Oh, I was gonna say that she's forty three.
Speaker 2 (13:10):
Forty four? Oh oh she's forty four.
Speaker 4 (13:12):
Oh my god, you guys, I was saying she was
a year older than me.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
I'm forty three.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
Now I can't keep a.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
Year older than she is a year older than me.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
But I'm not thinking that I'm forty three.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
And Courtney's hero Judge Judy, I love her, she loves you.
Speaker 4 (13:28):
I love her so much. Judge, Judy, you are thirty seven.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
Judge Judy richest woman in television is uh, I'm gonna
say my girls hitting the eighth level eighty eighty two. Wow,
I love her, it's crazy.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
Or Mario Lopez coming up.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
You're Mario Lopez and Mariah Carey does not like overhead lighting.
Speaker 1 (13:51):
On with Mario Hollywood Buzz.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
So Mariah is living up to her divid reputation. She's
speaking out against overhead lights. She calls it a curse
that we all live under. Whether it's in an elevator,
a gym, or an office, she wants them turned off.
I love me some Mariah. I always say she's incredibly talented,
just the biggest selling female performer in history. But I've
(14:18):
interviewed her a few times and she has to have
her own lighting. People come and I don't even I
can't even know the number of lights. It's like stadium lighting.
Oh my god, in front of her, and I've never
looked so good with this lighting. Can I get this team?
Speaker 1 (14:34):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (14:34):
Exactly. It was really impressive. But then you get there
and she's really cool, but she knows what she wants.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
Mario Lopez will be right back.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
Mario Lopez here, and we find something to celebrate every day,
and today is National Mescal Day. Ooh on the heels
of Hispanic hearriage. Want mescal is coming in hot. If
you're not familiar with it for some reason. It is
like a very smoky tequila, almost like a bourbon, but
very smoky. I like it. I don't necessarily love it,
(15:04):
but it is good in mixed drinks. And it's one
of those drinks where you drink it and you're like
and then you drink a little bit more and you're like, okay,
and then it starts to really kind of feel good.
And then I know some people that are wild about it.
What a Mario Lopez here and preppy eighties styles could
be big this Halloween. Things to all the interests in
the Menendez Brothers, eBay get a lot of action on
things like chunky sweaters or Tommy Hillfiger rain jackets. If
(15:27):
you're looking for something a little less pricey, search for
La County Jail v neck teas. There you go, all right.
Speaker 7 (15:32):
Let's get just get yourself arrested and keep the guarb.
Let's get back to music. You're a Mario Lopez and
your kids. Halloween Hall may look a little different this year.
Chocolate is out, sugary sweet is in. Gen Z is
more interested in chewy and sour treats, so look for
new variations like Twizzlers ghosts.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
I love Twizzlers.
Speaker 6 (15:54):
I don't know what the ghosts about.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
Apple harvest, sour patch, kids and nerds. Candy corn plus
prices are sending traditional chocolate to the backburner. Coco has
jumped ninety one percent since twenty twenty two.
Speaker 6 (16:07):
Wow, look at that.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
That's a lot. I still get down with my dark
chocolate every night, though not gonna lie more. Mario Lopez
on the way, Mario Lopez, here was some quick buzz
for you. Dirty Dancing coming to Broadway. Schedule the debut
late next year. It's gonna feature some of the iconic songs,
of course, but it's also promising to include new music. Meanwhile,
Jennifer Gray, of course from the original, says a Dirty
(16:29):
Dancing sequel is still a ways off. Lionsgate announced it
back in twenty twenty, but she says the script still
isn't right yet, so there's still hope. Mario Lopez here,
and there's a final week to catch up on this
year's I Heard Radio Music Festival. If you haven't seen
it yet, do not miss out. It was an epic
weekend with performances from Duaalipug Whence the Fani, Camilkabeo, the
(16:51):
New Kids. It is streaming now on Hulu, but it
all goes away on Sundayoh, Mario Lopez. Time now for
one last thing. Sony and Mattel are giving the green
light to the next Toy Bass movie, view Master. No
word yet on the plotter or premise of the film.
The view Master has been around since nineteen thirty nine
and it was inducted into the Toy Hall of Fame
(17:14):
in nineteen ninety nine. Didn't know that existed. Over the years,
they sold one point five billion reels. That's the little
thing where you've clicked.
Speaker 6 (17:25):
Around thing.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
I love those things. I probably had two or three
of those as a kid. I feel like everyone did.
I'm very curious to see how they're going to develop
that into a film.
Speaker 1 (17:34):
More Mario Lopez coming up.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
Alright, I'm out here, but I'm back tomorrow with Dwight
Howard from Dancing with the Stars plus a New Life
Hacking Courtney's Corner. Mario Lopez saying good night
Speaker 1 (17:47):
With Mario Lopez
