Before we get to a recap of the playing games
from from the NBA last night, we gotta go to
(01:48):
lead a lab because the Birthday Boy himself turned thirty
six years old yesterday. He seemed like he was in
for a big day, especially when his best ee Todd
serenaded him on the air.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
Lee, how was the birthday?
Speaker 6 (02:01):
The birthday was fantastic, very fitting for a Taco Tuesday
with all the fellas. You know, I never made big plans,
but the fellas showed up and showed out and it
was good times all around.
Speaker 7 (02:19):
Try to keep it as uh as professional as I could,
but you know, Taco Tuesday gets a little wild sometimes
five dollars margies, five dollars shots, two dollars tacos.
Speaker 5 (02:32):
I was gonna say, are you a big taco fanily
or did you just want to have the cheapest possible
option for when you went out?
Speaker 6 (02:39):
I am, well, you know me, I'm a I'm a
sucker for a good deal.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
And uh you know they.
Speaker 8 (02:44):
All all the ladies yea, and all the all the ladies,
all the ladies at the at the bar love me,
so you know, of course, Yeah, why are.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
You such a lady around? I don't get it?
Speaker 6 (02:59):
You know, Oh what do you know?
Speaker 3 (03:01):
What can I give my theory lead before you answer that? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (03:04):
Sure, But my theory is the fact that you're like
a nice, harmless guy.
Speaker 3 (03:10):
Like when people see you, they're like, oh, that looks
like a nice guy.
Speaker 5 (03:14):
You know, they don't like really worry about you know,
whatever could come from that, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 6 (03:19):
Yeah, I don't like to to proclaim that, you know,
the nice guys. What's there's a word for it. I
don't know, but uh yeah whatever, that's.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
Not your that's not your that's not your leaders, that's
not what you hitting them with.
Speaker 3 (03:36):
You're the bad guy.
Speaker 6 (03:38):
I can't be the bad guy. But no, I don't.
Speaker 3 (03:43):
I don't know, but I think you're the good guy.
Speaker 5 (03:45):
I think you're the guy that sometimes editors friend territory
and they never leave, you know.
Speaker 6 (03:53):
I know, I know, I don't know. Well listen, man,
that's not what I go for. You know me, I'm
a loyal guy.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
I don't know what that means. I'm neither a komodo.
In this photo you just said, is.
Speaker 6 (04:05):
He wearing a No, he's wearing a He's wearing a
Tommy Bahama.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
Yeah. Is that what that is? It's hard to tell.
Speaker 6 (04:13):
It's hard to tell from there. Okay, yeah, yeah, it's
a bad shirt.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
Uh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 6 (04:18):
I just sent you guys a photo of the group.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
Photo of the guys. Lorena, did you go she was invited?
She almost made it.
Speaker 6 (04:26):
Yeah, I almost made it, but I did not. And
then I thought about coming later, and I was like.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
What's almost making it? Lorena? Well, I would have had
to what is almost making it look like?
Speaker 8 (04:38):
Oh no, I had just started making sandwiches when he
told me.
Speaker 6 (04:43):
So, you know, I don't live clothes.
Speaker 4 (04:46):
But you did know before you left last night because
he's sick.
Speaker 6 (04:50):
But that was in the morning. That was the morning hangout,
not afternoon hangout. That was right afterward.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
Oh oh wait, did you guys hang out for the show,
no jinx. I think you guys rehearsed that. Did they
rehearse that?
Speaker 4 (05:06):
They rehearsed that. I don't know if you caught that queue.
Just say no, say no to everything. I don't know, man,
I'm telling you. You saw my message yesterday, Lorena, I.
Speaker 6 (05:20):
Did not see your message.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
What did it save our Oh? Look now look now
I sent it. M hmm.
Speaker 6 (05:29):
He thinks me and you're going to end up together?
Speaker 3 (05:32):
Bam? I think so. Social media. Social media had a
field day with.
Speaker 6 (05:37):
The with the gift today, isn't it yesterday?
Speaker 3 (05:41):
Did you say it again?
Speaker 6 (05:43):
Social media had a field day with the gifts you
gave me yesterday, which I made quick work of, not
not the other thing, but the work of it.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
Whoa, whoa. You was using that lotion all the way up.
Speaker 5 (06:03):
Let's move on to the happy belated birthday morenum, sorry
you could participate.
Speaker 3 (06:09):
Let's get the hell out of here before we get that.
Last night, sure, yeah, last night.
Speaker 5 (06:17):
The Eastern and Western Conference both had the seventh and
eight seed playing games last night, and the NBAT brought
the drama all right, not so much necessary for the
Magic Hawks game because of the score more because of
Trey Young, who at one point tried to fake out
a rap. It looked like you punted the ball either way.
Orlando moves on to take on the Boston Celtics. And
(06:39):
in the West you've got the Golden State Warriors, who
went a dramatic finish versus the Grizzlies, kind of coming
down the stretch led by Jimmy Butler. Playoff Jimmy showed
up along with Steph Curry. Those two combined for US
seventy five points in this one. Still Golden State wins.
They move on, They'll play Houston, the number two seed
in the West, and look, it's there's still an opportunity
(07:02):
for the Atlanta Hawks and the Memphis Grizzlies and the
grenade throwing job Moran. The reality is, though, they're gonna
have to wait now to see who wins between the
nine and ten to play off for that final eighth
seed spot in each conference.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
Did you have a chance to check out the.
Speaker 5 (07:16):
Games, LaVar, what do you think of Trey Young's meltdown?
Speaker 3 (07:21):
I did watch the games.
Speaker 4 (07:24):
Atlanta seemed overmatched, outmatched, outclassed. Or Orlando is pretty they're
pretty good, but I don't know how much it's gonna matter.
I think they got to play the Celtics coming out
and going into the playoff first round, so I mean
(07:45):
I think, uh, was it be Beniro? Ben Chorro is
a beast. I mean, he's their their star. But the kid,
what whether Black or Ben Carrol?
Speaker 3 (07:56):
Was it Black? Who was it? Uh? I'm trying to
think who was the other leading leading guy?
Speaker 4 (08:02):
There was like two other guys they came off of
the bench, not great with their names. I'm not crazy
familiar with the roster of the Magic, but.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
They did.
Speaker 4 (08:13):
Yeah, it might be Anthony Black. Uh, they did, They
did some. They did some pretty pretty good stuff.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
I just don't see them getting out of the first round.
But in terms of the recap of what Orlando did,
they just outclassed Atlanta. My my takeaway, my biggest takeaway
from the game was, I feel like the Trey Young
experiment is over. It's it's done in Atlanta. I think
they need to, you know, they need to move on
(08:42):
from Trey Young and and probably try to figure out
how they can build rebuild for what it is that
they're going to try to do in the future. There's
gonna be like I could see Trey Young being in
addition to the Lakers and that possibly, you know, being
an interesting deal because if they had a ball handler
(09:04):
like Trey Young, and Trey Young had some maybe guidance.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
I don't know. He he comes.
Speaker 4 (09:09):
Across as like self absorbed and and and kind of
you know, I don't care about being arrogant too much,
but especially as a player on the on the court,
because I don't know how you are off of it.
But he just comes across as like he's not the
leader type. He doesn't seem like he brings a quality
(09:32):
that goes beyond whatever his talent is. And I think
if he were to have success, more success in the
in the NBA, I think it would be him being
on a team that has somebody that he could respect.
And that's why I brought up the Lakers. I think
that he would I don't know his relationship with Lebron
James or anything like that, but even just seeing how
(09:52):
things are going with Luca, I just think that him
having somebody who can kind of, you know, balance him
out in terms of just you know, it's okay, like
just just be Trey Young, da da da, you know,
do what you do best. That here's the parameters, Blase
bla and he has a respect for it. I think
(10:13):
we would see better basketball out of Trey Young, and
we've seen some really really fine ball from him, but
I just think that he has this way about him.
And I don't think that Atlanta is going to get
to the next that next plateau where they're trying to
go with with their current roster, and I think that
you start with blowing it up and Trey Young. I
(10:36):
just think that maybe that time has come to an end.
But that was kind of my biggest conclusion from that game,
in particular, that Orlando is not going I don't think, well,
they're going to have to play yeah, yeah, yeah, Orlando
I believe has the sounds.
Speaker 3 (10:51):
Whoever, yeah yeah.
Speaker 4 (10:52):
Whoever, whoever, whoever Atlanta plays in the next round, I mean,
they win, they get in, they don't. I'm not sure
who plays. I had to bracket, but I'm not looking
at it right now. But I just don't see Atlanta
making a real run. I don't see any of those
two teams making a real run now. For the other game,
(11:15):
I said that I feel really confident about the Golden
State Warriors, on yesterday show and give me.
Speaker 5 (11:21):
A secondard, which just cap that conversation, by the way,
so you want to one, okay, but yeah, Cole Anthony
an people up by the way combine for forty two.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
Those are the two yards coming off the bench for Landa.
Speaker 5 (11:31):
You're talking about, uh, and look to me, the difference
in that game is three point shooting. I think to
your point about Trey Young when a shot stopped falling
when they hit what four three? Is the entire game
for Atlanta, You're going to struggle, you know. Cole Anthony
and Anthony Black combined for seven alone behind the three
point arc. So, uh, last night was an example of
(11:51):
and this is one of the reasons why I don't
love one game sudden death scenarios, which this is not
that because Atlanta still has the chance to play, uh
the win of Miami in Chicago who played tonight at
seven thirty pm but Eastern time. But it is one
of those one off kind of like the March Maddis
(12:12):
Tournament where you can catch a team that's got a
bad shooting night.
Speaker 3 (12:15):
Atlanta, it was kind of that for them.
Speaker 5 (12:17):
Give Orlando credit for their defense, but at the same time,
you can have a bad shooting night and a game
can get away from you.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
And that's what I felt like that game was.
Speaker 5 (12:26):
I kind of felt like Trey Young and the rest
of the team, you just had a hard time really
keeping pace, keeping up and they couldn't hit a shot
and that gets frustrated.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
And I get that.
Speaker 5 (12:35):
I understand what you're saying about Trey Young. I'm not
saying blow it up yet. You know, they still will
have a chance, even though I don't know if I'm
taking them over the heat maybe the Bulls and how
they match up. But still a lot left I think
for the Atlanta Hawks if they can get through the
winner of that Chicago Miami game. In regards to the
(12:58):
Golden State game or the last night now solidifying himself
as the seventh seed, the one thing I'd point out
is just the addition of Jimmy Butler. You know, Golden
State need to do something. They did something. They went
and got Jimmy Butler and it's so far paying off dividends.
We've a sound from Steve Kerr talking about Jimmy Butler
and obviously playoff Jimmy and his impact.
Speaker 9 (13:23):
In these big moments, these big games. He just settles
you down constantly. He just told me, I don't care
who guards me, you know, just give me, give me space,
give me the ball. I'll make something happen. And that's
the beauty of Jimmy. We have morphed into a different team.
We've got the movement and the flow of Steph, but
we've also become for half the game a great IO team.
We've never been an ISO team here. There's great advantage
(13:45):
to that. Jimmy has completely changed everything for since he's
been here, and tonight was a great example of that.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
And he goes to show you too.
Speaker 5 (13:54):
When you've got a player who can ISO like that,
and especially when you've got Steph Currey on that team
as well, you really can't do so many things. He
Jimmy's either gonna win the one on matchup, but if
they try to bring a double at some point, it's
gonna free up a shooter and that makes Golden State
extremely dangerous and hard to match up with. In particular
going on in the next round playing Houston.
Speaker 4 (14:14):
I mean, I thought it was a pretty interesting game.
It looked as though they were gonna run away with
it by halftime. Jimmy was was just he was getting
his man, and it was it was going really, you know,
really well for them. Bain was doing pretty good to
keep them in it. I mean he was, he was
doing all right. I mean, he was kind of all
(14:35):
they had. And then I don't understand how Edie kept
falling into a position where he had to guard Jimmy Butler.
I didn't I didn't understand that. They made some adjustments.
They did well in the third quarter. They actually outscored
Golden State in the third quarter and made it more
(14:57):
of a game. You know, Joh Jay's Josh John Moran
is going to give you some some good moments. He
he put up twenty two. He did, he did what
he needed to do. I don't know, outside of him
in Bain, I just feel like they need one more.
(15:19):
They're missing something, They're missing a piece there in Memphis,
and I don't know, I don't know what. I don't
know if it was coaching. Maybe it could have been
coaching in that game. But I felt like they did
adjust pretty well and made it into a pretty decent
end of a you know, end of the game. But
(15:41):
as far as Golden State, I think that is the
that's the story, that's the biggest story coming out of
it is what coach Steve Kerr had to say is
that having Jimmy Butler really gives you the opportunity to
do something they hadn't done before, which is create isolations
to their opponents. And as long as he can do that,
(16:03):
if he can do that at a high level, then
all you need is for Draymond Green to be that
guy that's gonna facilitate that man had ten assists last evening,
and and and just find that way of letting let
Draymond be Draymond, let him.
Speaker 3 (16:22):
Cook ass as the bully.
Speaker 4 (16:25):
But Butler is a bully too, but he's a bully
that can score Q and I think that that's the difference.
Like every once in a while, Draymond can give you
some some good points, but you can't depend on him
to be another source of generating points. So when you
get a guy like Jimmy Butler playing the way that
(16:47):
he does, it gives you two things. One, it gives
you again that guy that's tough and strong, but he
can isolate like like Steve kurse it. The second thing
that maybe people maybe didn't pay attention to is it
gives an opportunity to pull Steph Curry off the floor,
give him adequate rests so he can continue to shoot
them bombs the way that he does, and you're still
(17:09):
able to score while Steph Curry is off the court.
Speaker 3 (17:13):
And I thought that that was pretty important.
Speaker 4 (17:15):
You saw him and John Moran off the court at
the same time, but you didn't see really Memphis take
take advantage or be able to take advantage of it.
In fact, that was when when Jimmy started really going
off and started being a little bit more aggressive going
to the hole and getting points.
Speaker 3 (17:34):
So I think that they are a dangerous team now.
Speaker 4 (17:39):
If they come up against a team that has a
little bit more length, it'll be interesting to see if
Jimmy Butler is still able to soften up the belly
of that defense queue.
Speaker 3 (17:49):
But outside of outside.
Speaker 4 (17:51):
Of those, maybe the length and the strength of maybe
like them going up against a Lakers team, or even
like I mean, I guess you could say maybe the Nuggets.
There are a couple of teams. There's a couple of
teams out there, I mean, Oklahoma, there's a couple of
teams out there. But if they can continue to keep
(18:14):
that balanced attack, I think Golden State could be a
dangerous team in this playoff run. I mean, I mean,
I'm saying all the finals. Yeah, yeah, but go ahead,
you got that was my take from that game.
Speaker 5 (18:26):
Yeah, when you got Jimmy Butler and Steph Curry on
the same team, I mean, there's a lot of star power.
Steve Kurz ahell of a coach. They've got the role
players too, and guys like Draymond who can get it done.
So there's no doubt they could be a, you know,
one of those teams to look out for, despite the
fact they are a seven seed and they will have
to take on the number two seed, the Houston Rockets.
Now that's that's played well for Golden State though throughout
(18:46):
the course.
Speaker 3 (18:46):
Of the season.
Speaker 5 (18:47):
They're three and one in the regular season. If you
include the NBA Cup, they're three and two versus. But
they still have this slight edge over Houston during the course.
Speaker 3 (18:56):
Of the regular season.
Speaker 5 (18:57):
So it should be as far as a game of
seven match for Golden State, a favorable matchup, you know,
based on what they've been able to splay and do
so far. So we've still got a couple more games tonight.
As we talked about earlier, you've got a Chicago taken
on the Miami Heat for that nine to ten opportunity
to play into the loser of the seven eight game
(19:19):
like we had just talked about. And then obviously you've
got the uh the Dallas Mavericks taken on the Sacramento Kings.
And the interesting thing for me with the Mavericks is
if they can save face beat the Kings, which they're
four and a half point underdog, so they've got to
work cut out for them and somehow somehow find their
(19:39):
way of making it as the eight seed. When it's
all said and done, it is all forgiven for Nico Harrison,
Like is all gonna be forgiven for the Luca Dodgets trade.
He's kind of doubled down say he likes the future,
he likes like where the MAVs are headed. But is
that what it's going to take for Mavericks fans to
basically forgive him? Like if there looks like there's a
(20:01):
promising future for this team without lu Luk at Dodjacks,
or does it take the Mavericks getting further in the
playoffs if they can't again a big if, then the
La Lakers, a team that obviously look at Dodjacks is on.
Speaker 3 (20:14):
Now.
Speaker 4 (20:14):
It's gonna take more than one season, and they would
have to win it, I think to ease the pain,
because that's always sitting there right Q. Like, I mean,
just if they were to lose at any point during
this playoff, this playoff run this year, you gotta believe
that they're going to be like, well, we would have
(20:34):
won if we had Luca. We would have won that
one if we had Luca. And I think so if
they were to able to win it all, you could
quiet that down. And I still think that the fans,
that avid fans of the team would find themselves saying
the same exact thing the following season. But at least
you wouldn't be able to kind of say, well, it
(20:56):
didn't come without us having the opportunity to win in one.
So I think they're going to have to deal with
that one for a little while. I don't think that
one's going anywhere anytime soon.
Speaker 5 (21:08):
I don't think they need to win at all. I
do think in a world where they would get further
than the LA Lakers, I think it does look better
for Nico if that was the case. So here's the
other hard part for the Dallas Mavericks. They went one
in three versus the Grizzlies, So even if they were
able to beat the Sacramento Kings, which I'm pretty sure,
(21:29):
the King swept him this season during the regular season.
So not only are it's an uphill battle not having
a star like Luca in this case, but also the
teams they have to play in a one off scenario.
In the Sacramento Kings as well as the Memphis Grizzlies
both got the better than this season, so it seems unlikely.
But I thought i'd toss that out there because there's
a chance. There's always a chance, And I feel for Nico.
(21:51):
He's getting a lot of flak. I think Mark Cuban
does too. Every time they show him, when they start
chanting fire Nico, he just puts his head into his palm.
Speaker 3 (22:00):
I'm it's a Oh no, it's rough man. It's a
rough life for Nico right now. No, no, there, it is, no. Well,
we'll see again more NBA action time night Nicos. Huh yeah, yeah,
there's many. There's one Nico trying to find a home.
Speaker 5 (22:17):
You might find another one after the season, depending on
how this all goes.
Speaker 3 (22:21):
But we got to take a break.
Speaker 5 (22:23):
Coming up next here on Two Pros and a Cup
of Joe A tough ultimatum before the Draft.
Speaker 3 (22:28):
We'll explain next.

Speaker 3 (23:53):
It should be a lot of fun, Olivar.
Speaker 4 (23:55):
Yeah, yeah, always fun, man, And like it's fun when
you have a cheat coat, like like Jay, Like I said, Man,
dude is the best at it and always has some
really accurate information. So he's created a pretty high bar bro,
So this is be interesting to see if he can
keep it up.
Speaker 3 (24:12):
You know. Well that's one piece of it.
Speaker 5 (24:14):
I think what most people look for it though, is
you know, once the picks made, the picks made, So
even having a little bit of a sight into it,
I think what is always the coolest part is, hey,
how does the player fit? You know, based on what
you've seen his skill set? You know, what does this
look like for his future? You look at some teams,
you go Okay, it could be an uphill battle depending
(24:34):
on what pick goes where. And speaking of what pick
goes where, Travis Hunter, who I believe some people believe
is the best overall prospect. If he's not, he's right
up there next to Abdul Carter, but the Heisman Trophy winner,
the cornerback wide receiver out of Colorado, was asked about
(24:54):
playing both ways and if a team was going to
try to get him to focus on one side of
the ball, whether it's wide receiver or cornerback as opposed
to the other. And this was in an interview with
CBS Sports. It's a bit of a dramatic response. His
response to if an NFL team told him to focus
on one side or the other was, it's never playing
(25:16):
a football again because I've been doing it my whole life,
and I love being on the football field. I feel
like I could dominate on each side of the ball,
so I really enjoy doing it, all right. I don't
know how realistic that is. I understand he's done his
entire life and he's excelled his entire life. One of
the justifications for him winning the Heisman over Ashton Genty,
(25:41):
who had a historic year for running backs was the
fact that he was putting in so many snaps. I mean,
for example, one of the digs that you heard a
lot of boys, these State fans who were fans of
Ashton Genty in their pitch or promotion of gent as
compared to Hunter were snap counts as in a stat
which some would argue what Travis Hunter was able to
(26:03):
do playing both sides of the ball and playing as
much he was was significant. It was what separated him
from everyone else because he's the type of guy that
you know, was a part of the Best Player of
the Year award for both positions cornerback and wide receiver,
or at least in that conversation down the stretch.
Speaker 3 (26:21):
So I look at this and think, yeah, it'd be cool.
I'd love to see him try to do it.
Speaker 5 (26:28):
I do think he's underestimating though, because this isn't so
much about him, like Travis Hunters an incredible prospect, incredible
you know, young man. This is more about the league
that he's entering into. This is a league that, yes,
even being one of the best out of college, there's
going to be some humbling moments. There's going to be
sometimes where you're going up against some of the best
(26:50):
to have ever done it at the wide receiver spot,
and when you're transitioning, you're going up against some of
those top cornerbacks. It's not going to be as easy
as it was working against some of the cornerbacks in
the Big twelve.
Speaker 3 (27:02):
So yes, I'd love to see him do it.
Speaker 5 (27:04):
I hope he can do it, But I also think
he's not understanding the challenge of the talent at that level,
and also the scheme and how teams can eliminate him,
take him away, or at least try to exploit some
of those weaknesses when they do get on those one
on one scenarios.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
I think it's I think.
Speaker 4 (27:25):
The interesting I guess part of this cue is can
he be okay? What are your expectations of him going
both ways?
Speaker 3 (27:36):
If it's serviceable.
Speaker 4 (27:39):
If it's him being serviceable, you can put him in
on both sides of the ball and hill be a
serviceable player on both sides of the ball, maybe even
dominant on one side of the ball.
Speaker 3 (27:54):
If he's doing this full time all the time, Uh, I.
Speaker 4 (28:00):
Think you have to temper what your expectation expectations of
him would be. I don't I don't really see any
player being a dominant player all the time on both
sides of the field. I just I don't. I've never
seen it. Doesn't mean it can happen. I just have
(28:21):
never seen it before. And I would say that you
have to temper your expectations of what you would expect
from him, which, by the way, he wasn't dominant on
both sides of the ball in college. You know, it's stats.
We're good on the offensive side of the ball. He
made some really really timely played some big plays on
the offensive side of the ball. But I mean, we
(28:42):
wouldn't say he's the top receiver, you know, coming in
with the draft. Some would Pete Prisco has a number
one of his.
Speaker 3 (28:50):
I wouldn't put on that. Look, I know you're a
big t MAAC fan, you're.
Speaker 4 (28:53):
Big well because I think he's I think, yeah, I
think he's the best in in in this year's draft.
Speaker 5 (28:58):
So they look, but but after him, who would you say,
I don't know exactly No, So so he would be
up in that conversation.
Speaker 3 (29:07):
I think from a lot of people who probably watched.
Speaker 4 (29:08):
His stat line, do you think his stat line would
say that he's he's a dominant dominant receiver.
Speaker 5 (29:15):
I think if you look at box scores and stat lines,
you're not watching the tape. I would say what I
watched from him as a receiver is yes, he can
he can be And look, people have made this comp
This is not my comp this is so it's not
original in any way. But when when I first heard
someone say this, I go, yeah, I can see that
he's he looks similar with how he moves to me
to Justin Jefferson.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
Now he might be a little bit more wrong.
Speaker 5 (29:38):
Ways because he hasn't had as much time to you know,
focus on some of the stuff like Justin Jefferson did,
only playing one way. But his stat line as a
cornerback is never going to look great because teams really
didn't test him, and when they did, they found out
and he usually made a player or did something.
Speaker 3 (29:54):
There's there's a few exceptions. There always is.
Speaker 5 (29:57):
You know, he struggled versus the young man out of
Stanford a little bit this past year, but outside of that,
I mean, he played really well as a cornerback and
so you're not going to test him if you've got
you know, Travis Hunter on one side and you know,
name your quarterback or Nde your dB from Colorado on
the other side, and as a wide receiver, there were
some times where you know, he wasn't always the intended target.
(30:18):
I mean, probably the most influential play in their entire
season was the end of the game versus Baylor when
they threw the hail mare and he came over to
them because they tried to go to him to play before.
And what he said was, I know they're going to
double me, and they did. If you go back and
look at that catch, they doubled. You know, they have
(30:41):
Travis Hunter on the other side to take away some
of the coverage. So because of that, I think there's
there's elements of like, could stat line have been better, Sure,
but he's playing however, many one hundred and twenty hundred
and thirty snaps a game. And on top of that,
they had some talented receivers they were throwing too too
so statin to me or a bit of a misnomber.
Speaker 3 (31:01):
I think it's it's one of the reasons.
Speaker 5 (31:02):
Why you've got, you know, some players that uh maybe
don't have as much wear and tear who end up
kind of shooting up some of the you know, the
draft boards.
Speaker 3 (31:11):
I mean, there's a guy named Tyler Shuck. Do you
know who Tyler Shuck is?
Speaker 6 (31:14):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 5 (31:15):
Yeah, he's one of the most talked about quarterbacks right now.
We're gonna talk about that here in a little bit,
but that that's usually what happened. The NFL sees value
and talent in certain ways different than what the college
game does.
Speaker 3 (31:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (31:31):
My whole thing is, again, if if you're if you're
I I include stats, I do. I mean that's just
for me. I'm not trying to knock Travis Hunter by
any means. I think he is the best overall talent
in the draft. I just don't think he's the best
receiver in the draft. Would I say he's the best
corner in the draft? One hundred Would I say he's
(31:53):
the best athlete in the draft one hundred percent? I
think he can be. I don't think stats tell the
tail on the defensive side of the ball, as you mentioned,
but I will say I will say I believe Travis
Hunter can be a dominant cornerback, a very you know,
(32:14):
Pro Bowl, All Pro cornerback in the NFL. I think
as a receiver, I think it's it could be a
hit or miss.
Speaker 3 (32:23):
It could be a hit or miss, depending on what
team he goes to.
Speaker 4 (32:26):
What type of quarterback he has, what type of system
he's in, it could be a hit or miss.
Speaker 3 (32:31):
I just don't see that being the case.
Speaker 4 (32:33):
I think he wherever he goes as a cornerback, I
think he's going to be okay if he's going to
do both. I don't see him being a dominant receiver
and a dominant cornerback no matter where he goes. If
he's doing both of those things full time, I just
don't see it. I don't see how. I don't think
it's realistic.
Speaker 5 (32:53):
I don't disagree with that, and I also think that's
the best way of him being able to play as
much on both sides of the ball. I think it's
starting at corner and I think it's playing wide receiver
but coming in from time to time. Just to put
a cap on the stats conversation, Travis Hunter did have
not only more receiving touchdowns, he actually almost doubled Tetoroe McMillan,
but he also had more receptions. Now, McMillan got him
(33:14):
by yards by a little bit, about by sixty more yards.
But if stats do matter, Travis Hunter technically had two
of the three categories better stats, so take that for
what you will coming up next year on Two Pros
and a Show, another all time great hangs them up.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
On the other side of.

Speaker 3 (34:02):
Now it's time for a little something.
Speaker 2 (34:04):
Sometimes you can't get to everything in the world of
sports or entertainment. Good thing the guys are here to
bring you.
Speaker 3 (34:10):
In case you missed it, all right, Lee, what do
we got?
Speaker 8 (34:15):
Good morning, everybody, Good morning, Brady, good Martin, LeVar, guys.
Speaker 6 (34:22):
In case you miss this. Nearly two months after the
Great Zach Martin called it quits, another Dallas Cowboy offensive
lineman has decided to walk away from the game. That
being an eight time Pro Bowler fourteen years in the league.
Left tackle Tyron Smith. He's signing a one day contract
with the Dallas Cowboys after being with I believe the
(34:42):
Jets last season. This, yes, he's he's calling it the
quits man. That's another hard one for the league.
Speaker 4 (34:49):
One of the great, brilliant career. So could be a
Hall of Famer. I mean some might debate it, but
had a really good career. Said you know, the whole
injuries deal, you had to do it with him, But
I mean I thought he had a great career.
Speaker 5 (35:03):
Yeah, eight time Pro Bowler, five time All Pro, two
time First Team. I mean he's until the injuries, like
you had kind of referred to. I think he will
be a Hall of Famer. I think he will be
on that track. And this is not to like make
comparisons between guys, but look at Tony BISSELLI and look
at what Tyron Smith's career was. And I think the
(35:24):
difference too is, you know, the accumulation of the Pro
Bowls and the All Pros and all that and over
a longer period of time. And I think there's something
to be said to when offensive linement. Even despite the injuries,
you know, he kept playing through a lot of it,
at least trying to, and so there is something to
be said for that. So I think if Biselli gets in,
in my mind, there's no doubt Tyron Smith gets in
(35:45):
because when he was healthy, you know, there was a
probably four or five year period where he was the best,
if not one of the best left tackles in the game.
I would say probably starting from like twenty thirteen till
about twenty sixteen, seventeen eighteen somewhere there. I mean, he
was he was looked at as that cornerstone guy. And
if for anyone hasn't seen him, Tyren Smith is a
(36:06):
mountain of a man. And there's different bodies for like lineman.
Speaker 3 (36:11):
You know, as a.
Speaker 5 (36:11):
Quarterback, you see different guys. You're like, Okay, that guy's
gonna have to put on more weight or he's just
got to eat more, lift more to be able to.
Speaker 3 (36:18):
Put the weight on.
Speaker 5 (36:19):
And once those guys are done, typically they can like
shed that weight like nothing.
Speaker 3 (36:24):
But Tyron Smith is just a big dude, Like he's every.
Speaker 5 (36:28):
Bit of six foot five, three hundred and twenty and
he just was like born that way. I'm not saying
this is war CARDI you know obviously all that stuff.
Speaker 4 (36:36):
Man, Like he's yoked ype no type but fat none,
just yoke nothing. Yeah, he just looks like he has
an elbow brace. That's how you know he's big. Yeah,
Like that's what JJ watt like. You know, a dude
got some some some arm hammers. When he's wearing a
knee brace as an arm brace, like that's his elbow brace.
(36:56):
Like that's some people are just built different, man. That's
all we didn't.
Speaker 6 (37:00):
Get We didn't get to it a few weeks ago,
but I was I meant to ask you guys, do
you think Julio Jones is a Hall of Famer?
Speaker 4 (37:09):
Debatable, but I would I would probably debate that it's
going to be hard for him to get in.
Speaker 3 (37:16):
It might be hard for him to get in because
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (37:18):
It's harder for wide receivers than lineman.
Speaker 4 (37:21):
I think it's harder for lineman to get in than
than wide receivers. Yeah, that's why I think that is.
It's more if it's more debatable for receiver position, I
think it's going to be you know, I think it's
more defined at the receiver position.
Speaker 3 (37:34):
Now, I think he gets in. I do.
Speaker 5 (37:37):
I think if you look at again, very similar resume
to Tyron Smith. You know, the Jueo Joes A seven
Pro Bowl was five All pros. I believe two or
three are first teams. You know, if you compare someone
like Mike Evans him for example two, you know, Mike
Evans has the Super Bowl, UH, somewhat similar accolade accolades,
not as many All pros. Definitely, you know, first team
(37:57):
All pros. I think that's the difference. When you're looking
at a guy like Julio Jones and even Tyron Smith
in the same breath, other guys are looking at them
saying like these guys are the best in the league.
Speaker 3 (38:08):
Like Larry Fitzgerald.
Speaker 5 (38:09):
We would gush about Julio Jones and just how talented
he was. So I think both wind up getting in.
As to when and how long it might take, I
don't know, but I think both Julio Jones and Tyron
Smith get in.
Speaker 3 (38:25):
Guy anything else?
Speaker 6 (38:26):
Yeah, yeah, guys, sorry, my Mike was the Atlantic League,
one of baseball's minor leagues. It's putting QR codes on
their baseballs. It's kind of a cool new thing where
you know, if you get a foul ball, you can
scan the QR code. It might give you a deal,
it could put you back up on the on the
jumbo tron. Lots of different ways you can interact. I
(38:46):
think it's kind of cool. Different way for like interaction authentic.
Speaker 4 (38:50):
But it's an authentication deal, which is pretty dope. Cause
if it's even if it's not a foul ball, say
it's like a record breaking home run or something like that,
and you have q code on it, I think that's
pretty dope.
Speaker 3 (39:01):
It's pretty minor league system, but yeah, yeah, no, it'd
be cool to do that.
Speaker 4 (39:05):
They should implement it. That's I mean, I think that's
a pretty cool idea.
Speaker 3 (39:09):
No, it's a great idea.
Speaker 5 (39:10):
I think that's one of the reasons too, what makes
baseball a bit more cutting edge even though it's America's pastime.
I feel like they're not afraid to implement stuff like
this and at the lower levels and then see how
it goes and then implement it in the majors. I mean,
the pitch clock. To me, it's been huge for the
sport and the pace of the game. Everything else along
with it. I mean, even how they've adapted some you know,
(39:30):
replay in some ways, being able to check.
Speaker 3 (39:33):
On different things to make sure they get the call right.
I got Baseball.
Speaker 5 (39:38):
They're kind of leading the way, although I don't think
they get enough credit for it.
Speaker 3 (39:41):
But I'd love hearing this.
Speaker 5 (39:42):
I mean, imagine if you did this with football somehow,
maybe you.
Speaker 4 (39:47):
Know a lot of players after touchdowns, put it on everything,
put a QR code on authentication, QR on everything, so
that Tom Brady deal doesn't ever happen, right, Like it's
got a QR code on it, Like, oh that's one
well got stolen there it is right there.
Speaker 3 (40:02):
You know they know which one it was, but it
doesn't mean they know. But you know what I mean,
Like if you ever sold it, it's like boom, there
it is.
