Deep in the dark corners of the basement, three weirdos sit and speak of... well... all things horror. The Podcast Downstairs is a show where three lovable ghouls discuss new movies, old movies, their favorites, their least favorites, and so much more. Join us downstairs to see what else lays beneath.
This week the boys gather under one roof and decide to tear down the classic haunted house story, The Amityville Horror. Comparing, Contrasting, and Complaining about both the 1979 and 2005 releases. Settling into the basement, the boys dive deep into the real life inspiration of the book and films (for our true crime friends out there). So let’s deny the whispers around the house, grab a fly swatter, and head down to the basement ...
This time around the guys take a STAB at Scream. A franchise. that wrote down all the horror movies rules, and proceeded to break all of them. Wes Craven came out of left field with this meta slasher that would make Agatha Christie cheer. So let’s dig into the gritty details and make Randy proud! We’ll be right back!
Stumbling, shambling, and groaning or running, parkour and screaming? The differences between 1978 Dawn of the dead and 2004 gritty remake our palpable. But the sick and decayed commentary on consumerism is still very much in both of its DNA’s so let’s head to the mall and shop till we drop… dead that is.
After falling asleep in their basement cages, that I believe were originally made for medium sized dogs, the boys started dreaming about a nightmare. What if a production company remade a 1984 classic and completely trashed it? How scary would that be? Dissecting both the original Nightmare on Elm Street and its 2009 dud of a remake, the boys fight for their lives. Which one will wake them and which one will bore them to death?!
A mine is basically like a tunnel of love right? The only way to find out is to watch both 1981’s and 2009’s “My Bloody Valentine.” Obviously. Love is in the air, as well as some viscera, a pickaxe, and a few tasteless nude scenes. Let’s dig into it!
Looks like the boys are back at it! They take a trip down to Camp Crystal Lake to dive in and see what they can find. Hopefully nothing is chained up down there. This time taking a stab at comparing 1980’s Friday the 13th to 2009’s, and the vast world of co-ed slashing, camp trashing, mommy issues goodness the franchise has to offer. Keep your hands to yourself, no booze, and eyes off the arrows campers.
This week the boys hunker down in a cozy cabin cellar to discuss one of the most wild, disgusting, violent, and of course groovy franchises of the century. (Entirely in our own opinion.) The Evil Dead. So grab the remains of your best friend, gas up the chainsaw, and give a hand to the boys while they dig up the goods. Surely you too will be dead by dawn.
While in the depth of the this frozen tundra, the boys explore deep in to the holiday classic, Black Christmas. With plenty of sleighs from the original 1974, to 2019, with a not so slight detour into 2006. It’ll be a holly jolly fright! And be sure to answer those Christmas calls!
Continuing with their deep dive into classic slasher movies and their early 2000s remakes, the boys escape from their Asylum and wreak havoc on a Halloween classic from 1978 and 2007.
The boys would love to have you for dinner. BBQ, cannibalism, and hot takes. The ghouls compare and contrast the 1974 hit to the 2003 remake in a (cranberry) saucy style. We’d be remiss to not touch on all the cinematic goodness in between. Dig in! Looking for more? Check out NotGreatEntertainment on all podcast platforms

This week the boys roll around in the recently disturbed grounds of the 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s. Our offerings include the head-turning movies of almost a dozen directors that dug us out of our graves of torture-pulp and glossy slasher remakes. A heart-warming (and heart-ripping) reliving of the last twenty-some-odd years of horror’s most humble heavy-hitters.
