First Step Entrepreneur

First Step Entrepreneur

This is just the audio from my YouTube videos. I'm Art, I've been starting businesses for 25 years. Some worked, most didn't. Right now I'm building something called First Step Entrepreneur while making videos about it. I don't have intro music or fancy editing. It's literally just the audio from YouTube because some people asked if they could listen instead of watch. I talk about why smart people get stuck, share stories from businesses I've built and screwed up, and work through whatever I'm struggling with in real-time. Sometimes it's useful, sometimes it's just me figuring things out. Each episode links back to the original YouTube video if you want to see it instead. No step-by-step systems, no guru stuff. Just someone who's still in it, still making mistakes, still trying to figure it out. firststepentrepreneur.com

For years, I only talked about my successes. Then I started sharing my failures openly, and something unexpected happened - people connected with the failure stories more than the success stories.

This episode is about what I learned from being more transparent about the things that didn't work:

This is me being honest about a frustrating period where I was putting in effort but not seeing the results I expected. Sometimes you have to step back and question whether you're doing the right work or just doing work.

This episode is about what actually happens when you finally say yes to the opportunity that scares you - not the Hollywood version, but the real experience.

I've said yes to scary things throughout my career: starting businesses, quitting stable jobs, investing money I couldn't afford to lose. Here's what I've learned about the gap between anticipati...

This is a personal episode about health, self-awareness, and how sometimes what you think is a character flaw is actually something else entirely.

I was misdiagnosed for 12 years, and when I finally got the right diagnosis and treatment, it changed how I understood myself and my behavior patterns. This isn't medical advice - it's about the importance ...

"Lack of motivation isn't the thing that's holding you back. It's not. And I want you to get that out of your head. You know that you're capable of being motivated."

This is a longer episode (17 minutes) that completely destroys the motivation myth that keeps entrepreneurs stuck.

The motivation proof you alread...

"At the time I'm recording this, I'm 45 years old. And if I could go back in time and talk to the 20-year-old version of me, this is what I'd say. I'd say I know you're an idiot. You are still an idiot, 25 years later."

If I could have a conversation with my 20-year-old self, it would be short - not because there isn't much to say, but because he woul...

Sometimes you have a realization about yourself that completely changes how you see everything you've been struggling with.

I finally admitted what was really holding me back, and it wasn't what I thought. It wasn't fear of failure, lack of confidence, or not knowing what to do. It was something more fundamental that I'd been avoiding looking at direc...

Nobody wants to hear that the thing they're insecure about is something others notice too. But avoiding feedback because it might hurt is exactly what keeps you stuck.

This episode is about building rejection tolerance - not because rejection doesn't hurt, but because the feedback you get from putting yourself out there is the only way to improve what...

"I am both one of the most boring people you'll ever meet and maybe one of the more interesting people. I describe myself as either the most boring, interesting person or the most interesting boring person."

Here's something you may not hear often: being boring might be your biggest business advantage.

I've probably taken more risks in my life than most people. Not because I'm naturally brave, but because I learned early that avoiding decisions is still making a decision - you're just choosing the status quo.

This episode breaks down what I've learned about decision-making from starting multiple businesses, changing careers, and taking financial ris...

This is a longer episode (24 minutes) where I talk about why I share so openly about business and entrepreneurship. It comes down to access.

Growing up, I didn't have access to the people, experiences, or knowledge that would have helped me understand how business really works. I had to figure everything out through trial and error, making expensive m...

I almost quit everything. The YouTube channel, the business, all of it. Then I remembered something that changed my perspective completely: the 10% rule.

This episode is about those moments when you want to give up on everything you've been building. When the progress feels too slow, the results feel too small, and quitting feels like the only reasona...

This is me being honest about something I've been thinking about: Am I optimistic or delusional? And how would I even know the difference?

I've always been someone who believes things will work out, that problems are solvable, that setbacks are temporary. But lately I've been wondering if there's a line between helpful optimism and harmful delusion.

After 25 years of building businesses, here's the most important thing I've learned: ignore most advice, including mine.

This is the longest episode I've recorded (39 minutes), and it covers why most business advice is either wrong for your situation or comes from people who've never actually built what you're trying to build.

This is awkward because talking about happiness feels weird, especially when so many people are struggling. But I want to share something about contentment that might be useful.

I'm genuinely happy right now, and it's not because everything is going perfectly. It's because I've figured out how to be content while still being ambitious. That's a tricky...

I checked, and it's not too late. There's plenty of time. You'll thank me in five or ten years.

This episode tackles the biggest excuse capable people use to avoid starting: "I'm too old," "I missed my chance," "I should have started years ago." Here's the reality check you need.

Take a long, hard look at me - this is what a "successful" entrepreneur actually looks like. I'm not that impressive.

I don't wake up at 4 AM, I don't have a perfect morning routine, and half the time I have no idea what I'm doing. Yet I've built and sold multiple businesses. Here's why that should encourage you.

Sometimes the feedback that stings the most is the feedback you need to hear most.

My friend looked at my YouTube thumbnails and basically said they were terrible. He was right, and I knew it, but hearing it out loud still hurt. This episode is about that moment when someone tells you the truth you've been avoiding.
