Speaker 4 (00:12):
To usc truth, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
Brian Lima, go Lobos.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
This is the Sewan Salisbury show. Astros first spring training
game tomorrow. It's gonna be right here on Sports Talk seven.
I'm your home for Astros baseball. Rockets are back in
action tonight.

Speaker 5 (00:31):
We're also your home for Rockets basketball. Cougar's taking on
Iowa State a lot of games this weekend. Canada took
down USA and the Nation's face Off final Sean trip Belieue,
Good morning's happening.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Morning, good morning?

Speaker 6 (00:46):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (00:47):
I realized too. Man.

Speaker 5 (00:49):
Did you see the open for that game? It was insane.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Did you see how they Kurt Russell was talking to
in the speech from nineteen eighty Yeah, before the played
before they played the Russians the Soviets as they called
him then, and his own team was in there. How
they did the digital ad. It was awesome. I was like,

(01:15):
I was so chilled up watching that guy. I remember
every part about nineteen eighty from al Michael's call to
leading up to it to what you could say, whatever
you want, but Herb Brooks is about as good as
the perfect coach for the perfect time, the perfect storm.
And I've been fortunate some of those guys like Michael Ruzione,
I've been able to spend time with him.

Speaker 5 (01:35):
We got to get him on.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
Yeah, the conversation with Mike was and laughs, just the
old school hockey thing. But the way. First of all,
it's the greatest pregame speech in sports history, and Kurt
Russell delivered it great, but the chills and then when
they came back and he finished the speech and you
saw the old school hockey and you saw like hits

(01:56):
up against the board and that was and you heard
Al Michael's voice of call of do you believe in miracles?
One of the kudos DESPN one thing they're they're people
behind the scenes that do graphics and do do all
that the teases and stuff.

Speaker 5 (02:10):
Yeah, epic.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
Yeah, that was one of the great openings to a
game that wasn't World Cup, wasn't Stanley Cup Finals, wasn't Olympics,
wasn't It was just a mid season friend was supposed
to because it's a friendly, that's basically what it is.

Speaker 5 (02:28):
We listen all these it's crazy.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Brad marshand is the team captain for the Boston Bruins,
representing Canada in his arena. And so it's just that's
just part of you represent your kind of goes to
show you. And you heard, I'm gonna tell you what.
If you don't like the k Brothers, you're out of
your friggin mind if you're that dude will score a
goal and then he'll punch you right in your friggin face.
And just the way you know their old man was

(02:52):
a great player. But it's just and then he gets
to sit on the same line. But the lead end
of that last night, if if you did not put
it this way, now, Baseball and all you other take
an example from how it's supposed to be done for
all then and you know what's crazy. All these great
stars in hockey. Connor McDavid can walk into a bar

(03:13):
and nobody will know him unless you follow hockey. And
even hockey players, I mean even hockey fans may not
know that are mid hockey fans.

Speaker 5 (03:21):
Yeah, And it's a great sport.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
And if you if you, if you have never gone
in person, do yourself a favor, even if you hate,
take yourself into a hockey and just watch it and
you'll follow in love and just the lead into that,
the lead in if you're just sitting on your couch
to what's this? Yeah, and it didn't bring back nineteen
eighty memories if you're old enough to remember, or even

(03:43):
after you saw it on highlights or in the movie,
that right there gets you to the points. I got
to watch this hockey thing. It was friggin' that's award
winning opening. Yeah, brilliant. And Sean mcdonn is underrated as
a broadcaster.

Speaker 5 (03:56):
I was in every sport when I when I listened
to him earlier in the week when they played Canada first,
and then listening to him last night, him and what's
his partner's name.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Oh, that's a referral love Ray Ray? Are both of
them standing together. I've known Sean and Ray for a
long time, And obviously I've known Sean's dad, God rest
his soul, who was a brilliant writer in Boston for years.

Speaker 5 (04:15):
You could put Sean McDonough in a eighty four doesn't
matter final and I'm listening.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
And it doesn't matter, And he's opinionated. He'll call the
refs out, he'll call players out. He I mean, he
just he's fantastic. And then they get and let's listen,
even if it was Kenny Albert, Kenny Albert's scamp good
I work with those, and Ray was that he has
been just a great And then you know when Panger
gets in, Darren Pang when he's on a different broadcast,
they're just I think hockey play by play guys and

(04:40):
analysts are brilliant. The game moves so fast you got
to be and McDonough's sensational and any sport. As a
matter of fact, he may be the most underrated all around.
He could do pro football, he can do college, he
can do NFL, he can do golf, he can do
it all and he and he doesn't get the same
pub as the big names, but he's good. But hockey.
I know we don't usually start with hockey, but this
deserve last night because if that doesn't fire you up,

(05:02):
And congratulations to Canada and congratulations of fans in Boston.

Speaker 5 (05:06):
I heard a few smattering early in the.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
National anthem, the Canadian national anthem booze, and it subsided
in a hurry, almost as if their person standing next
to him said, we don't do that here. And then
they cheered, and then they gave her a big ovation
at the end and then they went crazy. That's opera
voiced by that lady who was saying the American national
anthem take the over, because it took about three minutes
to sing. But she was phenomenal so all the way around.

(05:28):
And I know it sounds cheesy, but kind of made
you proud, right, Oh yeah, I think hockey is such
a great representation of their physical and listen, I'm not
dogging even football players or baseball or basketball, but like
we could go with the basketball days off. These dudes
Connor McDavid, I mean not Connoric David, but Katchook as

(05:50):
sick as a dog, can't play it. In his interview
in between periods, first second period, he said it didn't matter.
He goes, this is the great He goes, this is
one of the greatest things in my life. He hasn't
been to a Standing Cup playoff game. His brother's been
like fourteen or fifteen of them.

Speaker 5 (06:04):
Think about that. Yeah, and he senters, you throw in
the USA jersey?

Speaker 2 (06:08):
Different, yeah, different, And he just he said, I wouldn't
have missed this for anything, meaning I'm just telling you
guys like that, if if they can play. You saw
how much it bothered McAvoy in the in the pregum,
I mean, his home crowd and the rest of it.
I just I friggin the essence of that. And now
you want to talk about how to do a mid

(06:29):
season thing basketball, this is it. That's how it's doing.
But if you want to know about toughness, these dudes,
all they care about is knocking the hell out of
somebody else and winning for their team.

Speaker 5 (06:38):
And the injuries.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
Nobody plays hurt better than a hockey player. Nobody, Yeah,
and that's even football included. Nobody plays hurt better than
those dudes.

Speaker 5 (06:47):
You've always always always said there's a difference between hurt
and injury. There is, and it's and those guys those
and they do both. That doesn't matter. Play hurt, they'll
play injured, dude, they'll play with with it doesn't matter.

Speaker 2 (06:58):
Those guy dudes will go out and get skate to
They'll have a forty inch gash on their arm, put
stitches in it, and by the second period they're back
back in it. They say, So, there's a there's a
built in toughness about him, and I freaking love him,
and and a buddy of mine Kelly Chase, I just
think about it. I sent him a messages here. Chaser
was one of the great fighters in hockey and been
around and all these guys, and he's battling leukemia right now,

(07:19):
and I sent.

Speaker 5 (07:19):
Him a message this week.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
He goes, Man, this is this is as tough a
fight as I've been I said, there's nobody better to
handle it, right, And I don't think he'd be bothered
me sharing that with him. But Chaser, this kind of stuff,
He's talked about it. And he grew up in Saskatchewan.
Saskatoon were some of the best hockey players on the
planet were born and learned.

Speaker 5 (07:37):
How to fight.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
He would tell stories like and I'm sitting there listening
to Chaser's telling these stories, so I'm thinking, at fifteen,
they learned how to drop him and let's go and
you just know. But the great thing about hockey, they
don't cheap shot you and hit you from behind. They
don't hitch they I mean, they'll punch you when they
want to fight. They'll tap you on the shoulder, allow
you most of the time to turn around. Let's square up, dude.
You saw in the opening of the First Time he
gets Kanada. They knew, they knew before the puck was dropped,

(07:59):
they were throwing It was almost capsule dress.

Speaker 5 (08:01):
Drop the pucking. Get out of the way, officials, because
we're going.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
But I just I freakin' when I think about the
battles and when Chaser says that. But I'm telling you
right now, dude, if he could have played now with leukemia,
he still would have that. That's my point is that
these guys, there's a different mentality from that from the
second they throw gloves on.

Speaker 5 (08:22):
And I hate to say it, but they got to fight.
I mean, now you get used to.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
Be like when they said they put you know, how
they stopped the fight from happening, How they stopped the
that intensity from continuing is that the Canadian The Canadians
threw out Connor McDavid for the opening face off, and
the reason they did that is McDavid ain't fighting, so
you knew when you sent him.

Speaker 5 (08:42):
Out there, oh okay, we're gonna play hockey.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
Had you have sent out like a goon or somebody
big that's a fighter for the opening puck drop, you
know what us would have thought. Mc david's on the
bench and he's the best player in the league. Yeah, okay,
the puck drops, you might as well drop the gloves
of me will throw it again. So the hockey it's
almost they've warn you and then they say let's go,
and then they go drink a beer with you.

Speaker 5 (09:05):
Because a lot of these guys that are.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
Beating the hell out of each other teammates during the
regular season. So if you didn't see that open, go
back tape, go back and watch the Open that.

Speaker 5 (09:14):
If you don't, you can hate hockey. You loved it
after the Open. If you didn't watch the Open, or
if you didn't watch any minute of those games, any
of them for.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
This whole tournament, you missed that.

Speaker 5 (09:22):
You missed out, no doubt, I don't care if you
don't like hockey, you never liked hockey, love it. Yeah,
it's it's just hockey. You missed out when it was
unbelievably entertaining and it was electric.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
When Kachuk is saying in the interview that this is
the players are telling him this is bigger and better
than the seventh game of the Stanley Cup. Yeah, now
come on, you throw that.

Speaker 5 (09:44):
I'm telling you throw that USA Hockey sweater on.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
Unreal and those dudes and leading that Will Kine show
yesterday their interviewing Eruzioni and Madonno and it was like
this is this matters and even but the way they
weaved it into the middle of the season took a
few days off. One dude, one dude on the other
team from Canadians is on his way to Cabbo. Take
a few days off. They call him said, we've got
a guy sick. Oh another guy sick. Not only are

(10:08):
don't just meet us in Boston, you're going to play
And he played a significant amount of shifts last night. Yeah.
But I just and the way they put the speech together,
and I'm just telling you, I want you to put
yourself where then that Kurt Russell, think about Herb Brooks
when you were sitting in there and you're about to
take on the Soviet Union in a major mismatch.

Speaker 5 (10:29):
Dude, that's a sixteen seed.

Speaker 2 (10:30):
It's a fourteen seed versus one seed, is what it is,
not the first time, but it's going not the US.
But I mean the difference back then. You look at
the lineup of the Soviets back in nineteen eighty and
you wouldn't wreck but those of us who were I'm
in college, right, I'm telling you Vladimir Tretiak the gold there.
They had like five of the best players in the
world playing for them, and they're all getting paid their pros.

(10:51):
And we got a bunch of kids who is trying
to make it into the NHL after this that from
some kid from small town Minnesota and you play in
the Frozen four but never.

Speaker 5 (11:02):
See anything like this. And they went out and kicked
their ass and then.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
They went out and backed it up instead of taking
a deep breath and then went with everybody thinks that
was a gold medal game.

Speaker 5 (11:09):
It wasn't.

Speaker 2 (11:10):
The gold medal game was after that, if you remember
that was for that was to get to the gold
medal game, if I'm not mistaken, and they beat the Soviets,
and the way ker Russ said, imagine now getting that
speech for the Olympics, representing your team. You're about to
go play Goliath and you really most people would have
said if they were within four or five goals, they'll
be lucky, and Jim Craig stands on a said they would,

(11:31):
but imagine that.

Speaker 5 (11:32):
Speech before him tonight for the best team in the world.

Speaker 2 (11:35):
I mean, I just if you didn't like hockey, and
you missed that last night, you would have liked it
after last night. I know that's a big set, but
I'm just telling you, Yeah, I get so worked I
was so worked up after that. I was like, if
I could skate right now and play, I'd go out
and hit somebody. That's how I felt. It was brilliant, phenomenal.
I know Canadians won, but there are friends. They're friends

(11:56):
and the guys you're going to cheer for during the
regular season. I wish we had kick there, asked, but
you know what I played up there. I got buddy.
I mean, just a lot of my buddies that played hockey. Yeah,
played in Canada.

Speaker 3 (12:06):
You know.

Speaker 5 (12:06):
I think one of the craziest things about this nation's
for the Nation's face or four nations, the Nations four
is all the talk about how bad the NBA All
Star Game is, all the talk about the Pro Bowl.
Major League Baseball has a pretty good product in the
All Star Game. The NHL just casually created this exhibition game.
It was more compelling, it was higher stakes, It was

(12:28):
more impactful than any NBA game or All Star festivity
in like the last like forty years and it's all
because their players, meaning the NHL players, took pride and
playing for their country in a in a friendly tournament,
best on best tournament.

Speaker 2 (12:48):
They don't take that for granted. Not Unfortunately a lot
of the other sports do that. That was an honor.
No guy that got invited to play in that, that
was part of that. The US or the Canadians. One
would have would have said, no, did you.

Speaker 5 (12:59):
See what about the NBA? I got the audio. Ah man, dude,
he cooks them well, but everything he says is so
spot on.

Speaker 2 (13:08):
I want you to go to a hockey player. I
want you to go to Connor McDavid or McAvoy or
Brad marshand and say, hey, man, you're going in to
play the Montreal Canadians, or you're going to play Nashville,
or you're going to play old school Boston and the
Chicago Blackhawks whatever it is, or the Islanders or the Rangers,

(13:29):
and you're going to play them, and it's type first place,
and you're taking the day off just because you're tired
because two nights ago you got in a fistfight and
two of your teeth got knocked out. Those dudes wouldn't
care if you put their jaw in their ear.

Speaker 5 (13:43):
One of the guys played in the Stanley Cup last
year with a cracked stern that was literally a fracture.

Speaker 2 (13:48):
And I think we're actually even underplaying when people say, well,
it's a different sport, No that they're built not just different,
but they know they're built different. They just don't act
like it. They one thing, the one thing I love
about it to me, they sell They It feels like
hockey players love seeing their teammates succeed. It doesn't feel
it feels like he scores, we all score.

Speaker 5 (14:10):
I forgot who it was. There were two guys on
the USA team last night that play in the NHL
together and they hate each other. They like Sean mcdunne
talked about it time and time in the third I
can't remember who it was.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
They they've been in fights and they hate each other
and they were the same team.

Speaker 5 (14:26):
And you and like they showed a clip of them
like hugging each other because of just them throwing the
USA jersey on.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
And you know what may happen after that. They may
not hate each other, yea, they may have a great competition,
but it maybe And I gained some respect for you.
It's like the guy you keep bothers you, and eventually
you get a fist fight with him in high school,
and after you fight her in college, you get that
fight that has been brewing, and finally you drop them
and just you beat the living piss at each other.
And then after that you walk away and say, you

(14:52):
know what, I'm not a bad guy. I thought he
was a little bit of a coward. But he landed
a few. I landed a few. He's got some stitches coming.
I got stitch is on my knuckle coming, and above
my mind, he's got them too. You know what.

Speaker 5 (15:03):
I'm gonna buy him a beer tomorrow night. Yeah, And
that's how that happens.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
But those guys, it's just they're They're built different.

Speaker 5 (15:08):
They just are. And last night.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
Was I had a feeling like I was getting ready
to watch the semis or something in the Olympics, and
the Olympics, I know it felt And maybe that was
because the open teased me, so which goes to tease
them with some good stuff and they'll hang around.

Speaker 5 (15:24):
It was living. I think for you and I, I'm
just gonna speak for you and I because I think
we share the same pride when it comes to our nation.
Even if they didn't have that opening, I think we
still it would have mattered.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
Right. All that did was all that did was put
a cherry on top of my enthusiasm.

Speaker 5 (15:38):
Last night I watched the opening from home. I had
batting practice. I'm driving home with it on. I had
it up, I had it on my phone on my
direct TV app, watching it during practice, and then during
the intermissions, I turn it off and then I bring
it back on. I watched it driving home, and every
time there was a shots on goal, I'm going nuts
in the truck, and I'm like, oh yeah, man, this
is just a friendly but.

Speaker 2 (15:59):
It's just there's fly about it. When they're trying to
win that thing. They felt. They treated it like it
was the Olympics. I know, because they're going to go
back to their their their teams says, oh man, you
got us, we'll get you next time. They love it.
I'll tell you this game six of an NBA Playoffs,
I'm out or last night? What are you watching?

Speaker 5 (16:13):
First? I'm watching last night this it's the Rockets.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
With the way it is now, I rest my kids.
Yeah than that, I mean all right, I please let
us get a hockey team. I know, may t please
somebody with a lot of money. Somebody please do that.

Speaker 5 (16:26):
Seven one three awesome, seven one three two one two five.
Seven ninety is the number too, joint us get the
break right here on seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (16:35):
This is the Shawn Salisbury Show.

Speaker 5 (16:37):
Are you not the time?

Speaker 7 (16:40):
Let's begin now alcohol? Oh yeah, cow on Sports Talk
seven ninety.

Speaker 5 (16:50):
Got the phone lines, John, Good morning.

Speaker 8 (16:53):
Good morning guys. Hey, you're talking about the sport. I
really miss being down here in Houston. You know, I
told you before. You know, I grew up in Minnesota
and played on the baseball team up there at the
University of Minnesota. And some of the players actually were
played hockey as well, like a Bunch Schneider. I knew him,
and he played hockey for the Gophers and and and

(17:14):
for UH and he also played baseball and UH and
some of the guys are.

Speaker 5 (17:19):
Pretty good John, John, I'm gonna put you on hold.
We got a really bad connection. Let me see if I
can get that fixed up. You there, yeah, yeah, hey, yeah, No,
give us a shout back, John. You know another thing
when you see We'll wait and see if we can
get John back up. But one thing, another thing that
I was thinking of when it came to that nation's
face off that final last night. Uh, Sean is the referees, dude,

(17:44):
they let him play outside of like a couple icing calls.
You didn't really see many offsides. You didn't see anything crazy.
They let these dudes go as they should. Yeah, so
kudos to those guys. Yeah, kudos to those guys for
letting him play. Let's see if see if on better
connection Johnny there, Hey you guys here, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (18:03):
There we go, there we go.

Speaker 5 (18:03):
What's going on?

Speaker 2 (18:04):
Oh?

Speaker 8 (18:04):
Thank goodness? Yeah, hey, yeah, I played.

Speaker 2 (18:07):
You know, I went to the University of Minnesota. You know,
I told you guys.

Speaker 8 (18:10):
They played at the baseball team up there. Some of
the guys on the team were also on the hockey team,
like Buz Schneider was one of my teammates. He actually
played on the on the Olympic team that won the
that won the championship. And you know what what hurt
his career. You know, he had a herniated disc. That's
what ended his baseball career and the same it's really
what stopped his uh ended his hockey career as well.

(18:33):
And I did have a chance to meet herb Brooks
several times. I mean he was over there at the
athletic facility and and uh, just you know, just great
memories and that's that's a sport. I just wish would
make it here in Houston. I I miss it terribly.
And Sean, when you were up in Minnesota, do you
ever see the Minnesota High School Tournament?

Speaker 2 (18:52):
I did not the finals, but I went to part
of the tour, yes, and it is it is the passion. Yeah.
And I got to play golf with Neil Broughton one time.
I'm I've played with Mike Madonnell, you know, because when
they were up there, when they were the you know,
the uh, the Minnesota North Stars and now obviously the
Wild and the Dallas Stars got it. I got to
become friends with some of those guys. And I'm just
telling you, man, the well, you know, it's Minnesota, Herb Brooks,

(19:14):
all of it, right, And I was I was there
during post all that, and the passion for hockey there is.
I feel like it's I mean, I know in Boston
and a lot of other places, but it feels so unmatching.
I'm with you, my man, it was, it was. It
was unbelievable. And that high school hockey tournament is as
big as Indiana basketball, right, it was monster.

Speaker 8 (19:32):
Every every player in that tournament is either going either
as a hockey scholarship or they're going into the pros.
Every single player in that tournament, I mean, and it's
you know, I mean, that's the kind of hockey players
that are ye that are there, and I mean it's
just an absolute you know, every all the coaches are there,
everybody's there, and all those players make it somewhere. You know,

(19:52):
they always are going to move on either into the pros.

Speaker 4 (19:55):
Or or or to college.

Speaker 8 (19:57):
And uh and you know the northern half of that
state eight, I mean, the town's just shut down and
they all go to wherever their hockey team is playing.
I mean, it's a you know, that space. That state
is really passionate about their hockey and it's really big
there and I really miss that. That's the one thing
I really missed down here. I just hope, I just
pray that somebody is going to bring a hockey team here.

Speaker 2 (20:17):
Oh my god, that's the only season ticket in truth. John,
I've said this before, and I love all these sports,
and I know you do too, and Brian does too.
But it's the only it's the only season ticket that
sport that I will buy. I mean, I've done basketball
and baseball season tickets, but I'm at the point I
can go to those games when when you want. But
I'm going about the season ticket where I got four
seats or whatever it is is where you want them.

(20:38):
I will stand in line outside in the cold to
get season tickets for an NHL team.

Speaker 5 (20:42):
That's a fact that I love it.

Speaker 8 (20:44):
And everyone agrees that that is the best sport to
watch live.

Speaker 5 (20:48):
Agreed, it's not close. It's not close.

Speaker 2 (20:51):
Yeah, there's nothing. There's nothing close.

Speaker 8 (20:52):
I mean, it is the best sport to watch live,
There's no question about it.

Speaker 2 (20:55):
Appreciates to John. Have a good weekend. M grade stuff John,
Two guys, Thanks buddy.

Speaker 5 (21:00):
One of the cool things that I got to do
is we went to bet. This was back in twenty
eighteen or twenty nineteen. We went to a Pittsburgh Penguins
versus Dallas Stars game in Pittsburgh. We sat like third row,
right behind, right behind the glass. It was an awesome,
awesome thing. Pittsburgh won the game. It was in December,

(21:21):
so it was an earlier season game. We were staying
at the hotel next door to the PPG arena. And
after the game, that's where the Dallas Stars came. Yep,
all those hockey dudes came over with their families, wives, girlfriends,
you know, girls on their roster whatever, and they were
buying drinks for everybody. Me and the guy that I

(21:44):
was with. I forgot I could go back and look
at the roster. But one of the Stars, top players
bought us beers. And I would have never known that
they were professional athletes. They were just normal, good ass dudes.
It was awesome.

Speaker 2 (21:56):
Two things I know about those guys. I was fortunate
to go on a car ride from Denver to Edmonton,
Alberta with Tony Twist and Nick Mick Vakota and a
bunch of those guys raising money for helmets wearing helmets, right,
you know, wearing a helmet when you're going to ride
in l way.

Speaker 5 (22:11):
That whole group.

Speaker 2 (22:12):
The only reason I name drop is because one of
these things is not like the other. Was all those
guys in me right, But and I'm telling you, going
too a bar. Two things I know when you're with
hockey players, well three things. One never have to worry
about your back never. Two your money's no good. And
three if it does break out, you'll be able to

(22:33):
come out of there and get on your motorcycle. Yeah,
and the other dudes in the bar won't, and they
will fight, ten of them, Not that you encourage that.

Speaker 5 (22:40):
And I'm just telling you.

Speaker 2 (22:41):
You walk into place with those guys and there's a
they don't and they the funny thing about is they
want peace. All they want to do is have a burger,
eat their chicken wings, have a cold beer and laugh
and have a good time in there and not bother anybody.

Speaker 5 (22:55):
But the second you.

Speaker 2 (22:57):
Disrespect a woman, the second you disrespect the people that
work behind the bar, the very first person that will
make sure and they'll come over calmly and do it.

Speaker 5 (23:05):
But it's like you chose a if you're gonna choose
the side to be on.

Speaker 2 (23:09):
Don't choose opposite of them in a if it's a
confrontational situation, because guess what, you will not win because
you've got to kill him to beat him. Right. That's
how they feel on the ice, and that's how they
feel off. But some of the bet you want a
charity event for a guy just played and then flies
into your charity event and leaves the next day to
go play another game. You know who to call? Have

(23:30):
the hockey dudes come overall I mean, and they will
do it. It's it's it's frigging amazing.

Speaker 5 (23:36):
And they said, one of those guys last night is
like six seven, and then you put them on skates,
he's like six ten.

Speaker 2 (23:42):
We'll go to back, go back to win. Zdeno Chara
playing hockey on skates. He's a seven footer and he's
hitting down on you when he fights you. And imagine
being a seven foot and being a All Star and
a Hall of Fame player, Yeah, Chara, And you're like, oh, man,
if I'm five to eleven, but I can fight. I
got to punch this guy in belly button. Well, he's
beating down on me like a sledgehamp. But they won't

(24:04):
if they'll drop the gloves, and you know they're gonna
fight him too.

Speaker 5 (24:07):
And he's just couldn't maneuver, maneuvering around like it's nothing
on skates at six foot eleven.

Speaker 2 (24:13):
Right, It's it's frightening. But it's a fun watch, man,
crazy fun watch. You got me all pumped for hockey, now,
were you guys? Ready to drive to the Dallas go to
game or fly to America. Man, I freaking love it,
and you're going to some of the old school arenas
like Chicago and Detroit.

Speaker 5 (24:26):
You guys would freaking love it. I wish NHL gets here,
so wouldn't that be nice? To be fantastic? Seven one, three,
two point two five, seven ninety is the number to join.
We continue to roll along right here on Sports Tuck
seven to eighty.

Speaker 2 (24:39):
But the Shawn Salisbury Show continued, Brad, we appreciate you
holding good morning. Hey, good morning guys.

Speaker 9 (24:48):
Yeah, real quick on this, Alex Bregman and Devors trade
not excuse me, uh deal?

Speaker 3 (24:55):
I mean, do they ever just do due diligence and.

Speaker 9 (24:58):
Say, hey, wait a minute now, we got a guy
over in Boston screaming that holler, I'm the third basement.

Speaker 3 (25:06):
I mean, or is the money just or or they
just really don't care.

Speaker 9 (25:10):
I just sit back sometimes and say, wait a minute,
you're about to ruin bull up the entire locker room
and the season hadn't even started yet. I just wanted
to go it out to you, Sean, maybe you maybe
you've sucked. I can understand a quarterback sometimes even you know.

Speaker 10 (25:25):
The number one part was like.

Speaker 2 (25:26):
Oh boy, now they're drafting another quarterback. They don't have
faith in me.

Speaker 5 (25:30):
I just sit back and go.

Speaker 9 (25:31):
Or is the money? They just don't care about the player.
That's where he gets down to the or the club
of the organization.

Speaker 2 (25:37):
Now, let me ask you this, are you talking Brad
about I know what sealing about the Red Sox thing?
Are you talking about? They just don't care about the player.
You mean Bregman or or Devers? Because they brought in thirty.

Speaker 9 (25:47):
It's almost like Bevers. I mean he came out and
stood stood as ground. I'm playing third no.

Speaker 2 (25:53):
Matter what you're you're basically saying, does the player get
to make that decision? Kind of right?

Speaker 5 (25:59):
Is that what you're talking about?

Speaker 2 (26:00):
They have some feel Yeah, well, Andy, I mean Brad,
I can answer this for you. I think one is
I don't have a problem. Thanks for the call, brother,
appreciate it. It's a great point by you before it
even starts. Is they're major chaos in their building. I
actually think a little bit of adversity and a little
bit of in house fighting during the season and it
didn't even starting. Or there's a little year long edge

(26:21):
at times, and I got news for you. There's more
of that on edge. Imagine one hundred and sixty. Hell,
even with your own people you love in your own home,
don't you Just when you're around on a two week vacation,
it's like, good, gracious, I need a day break, right.
That happens in the locker rooms too all the time.
You just don't hear about it. Okay. I've never been
on a team that didn't either have a fight on
the field, a fight in the locker room, two guys

(26:42):
yelling and screaming at each other, a coach and a player,
a trainer and a player because he's pissed because his
treatment of all that stuff. That just it's like anything
you disagree, Unlike everybody thinks that when you disagree once
and get a fight, you're supposed to hate the person.
You come back the next day or an hour later,
and you back at it. There's just a different mentality
in those locker rooms. So I don't have any problem
with a little bit of.

Speaker 5 (27:04):
On edge.

Speaker 2 (27:04):
I actually think it's good for a team, and what
it does is on edge, and then all of a
sudden two months later, Now, if you've got a soft
team that can't handle it. You've got a bunch of
little whiners that if you get disagree with the player
or a coach that that they're butt hurting, got to
go upstairs to the GM and complain because their softest
you know, wet sharm and bath tissue. Then your team
soft anyway, then the belly inside your soul and belly

(27:27):
you're all cosmetic and you ain't gonna win a championship anyway.
But I don't think that's the Red Sox, just like
I don't think it's here. I think it's okay to
have a little bit of well it's this guy, Like,
here's what happens in that Brad, real quick is we
have gotten to a point now, Yes, money does dictate
it when the face of the franchise now listen, I
think different. It's just kind of like Sodo bias his

(27:48):
teammate a car an Suv. Yeah, he gives him twenty two. Now,
he could have bought him a Ferrari and still paid
for but bought them a nice Suv to get the
number twenty two. You know what, guys have egos and
guys you know, want what they want, and Sodo could
do that. Why seven hundred and fifty million dollars. If
it's just a minor leaguer, that guy's not giving him
as twenty two or the number one pick in the draft.

(28:09):
But it's a matter of it, and I would imagine
most people in the building in Boston know this. Devers
is not a great third basement defensively. The players I'm
talking about players will always tell you who the best
player is, that they know this. But Bregman's the outsider.
Raphael Devers is the insider, so they're always going to
take his back, like when you're talking about cast is

(28:30):
taking his back, so I mean having his back saying
well he's getting good. Of course you're going to defend
your face to your franchise. And he's making thirty plus million,
and you don't want to disrupt the apple cart. The
problem is we give players too much empowerment, because in truth,
if Alex Chorus says, the best thing for our team
is you playing DH and sometimes another position third once
in a while when we need a day off, and
then Bregman can play second on the second basements, Dowf

(28:52):
and you're a third, no problem, and we need your
out in the lineup. So like I said, if you
try that to Nick sab and Nick sabn say, you're
either going to do it or somebody else deal with it.
Even if you're a five star guy that's getting ten
million dollars in nil. So with that, you just the
feel is you want the best nine. And they went
out got Bregman, which helps their roster. I don't think

(29:13):
Bregman's gonna bitch about it. I haven't heard him say
one thing about it. The problem is if you get
two players fighting, it's one thing. If Alex Bregman says,
I'll go wherever you want me to, then Devers doesn't
have this sason in here to take my gig. It's
the team that wants to and let him fight with management.
All he wants core in him. That's who cares people
do that. Yeah, just like you mentioned the hoccyplace, you
hate each other, when you get together, you go play with.

Speaker 5 (29:34):
Devers goes to the play.

Speaker 2 (29:35):
He's not gonna be thinking about Alec corn I put
him at third base or put him at third base.
He's gonna thinking about raking because it cuts into his dollars.
So listen, is it a little bit selfish, Sure, but
grandfathered in. I guess it just tells me that maybe
Devers feels like he doesn't hit as well when he's
not playing third base and breg manila just and he
has to why even though he's a better third baseman.

(29:55):
He's an outsider coming into their their layer, right, and
so once he fits in, they'll do it. I got
news for you. There's not a guy on the team
who thinks that Devers is a better glove than Alex Bregman.
But and that may work itself out. So it's okay
to have a little bit of this as long as
it's not we're Cora to the point or whatever. They
fight it so much that it's like he decides that

(30:17):
he's going to go a wall or request the trade,
But when he's in the batter's box, he's still going
to swing the lumber. That's what he does. So it'll
work itself out. I don't have a problem with it.
And they didn't bring him in thinking this is going
to disrupt the team. They brought it in and thinking, yeah,
he'll be a little but hurt. But if I can
get my best nine out there, that's the whole goal,
and we'll see it works, you'll see Bregman play both.

(30:37):
But if Devers is going to start there and maybe
devs at some point, I'll say, you know what.

Speaker 5 (30:41):
That's three airs in four games. Maybe maybe it's time.

Speaker 2 (30:44):
His performance may dictate that move and Cora may just
allow it to happen. Now, if he goes and plays,
raises his game because Bregman's in a building's what's wrong
with that? So I and he's right, Brad, Brad, you're right.
But player empowerment. Now, the stars get to tell you
what they want to do, and then the manager in
the front office get to decide if they're going to

(31:04):
allow that to happen.

Speaker 5 (31:05):
And right now it appears that they're gonna allow it
to happen. I think I think that the thing's gonna
blow up.

Speaker 2 (31:10):
Yes, there's a difference between it little you know, a
little bit. I think edge if he goes over the
top lookout, I think he is.

Speaker 5 (31:16):
I think he's going to selfishly, he's going to be
upset when Bregman gets over to them.

Speaker 2 (31:20):
If he gets to the point of that, it may
tell you that he wants out of Boston, which would
be a bummer because that's a perfect ballfar ballpark for
him because he can.

Speaker 5 (31:26):
Hit it the other way on the regular baseis and
thirteen million. Yeah, they got a chance this year.

Speaker 2 (31:31):
They're getting they prove this offseason pitching staff, they did
some things and you know Boston they always grind, right
then they'll hang around and grind. So yeah, br Uh,
Brad and Brian. I it has the potential of losing itself.
But right now it's just you know, I think what
it is like a dog on a walk pein on
every tree, you know, the Mike Keel a piece of me.

(31:51):
He doesn't have any left and he's still still with
his leg. It's almost like I marked my territory. This
is my territory. I'm the alpha here when you walk
into my building, this is where this is my position. Yeah,
and I understand it, but how far is it? Is
it a line in the sand or is it echeton stone.
That's what we got to decide about Devers before it
does or doesn't blow up. If they're winning, there'll be
no problem. Yeah, they're going to losing eight out of

(32:14):
ten and Devers makes two airs and they want to
move him. The fist fight will happen, not literally, but figuratively,
you know what I mean. Yeah, it will happen. Winning
cure's everything. Man.

Speaker 5 (32:22):
All right, let's talk some Astros baseball. They open up
spring training with their first game tomorrow against the Nationals.

Speaker 2 (32:27):
Is gonna be on the bump?

Speaker 5 (32:28):
That's next.

Speaker 3 (32:31):
This Sean Salisbury Show continues to.

Speaker 2 (32:36):
Get you ass out of the sheets and go play golf.
Thirty three degrees. Well, kids, it's kids. Play a little
wind kicks in, will see Oh hey, nobodyside when you're
yanking on one hundred pound And by the time, it's
always like, what's everybody complain about?

Speaker 11 (32:55):
What is that?

Speaker 5 (32:56):
It's thirty degrees? What's a big deal.

Speaker 2 (32:57):
You start to sweat because you've got the heat turned
on her house, right, and I was like, what are
we complaining about? Then about an hour later, you walk
back outside and the winds kicked up, and you're like,
I'm glad I got the walk in there. Yeah no,
but you know it's crazy. But at this time next
week or Tuesday, it's gonna be seventy five days and
I think.

Speaker 5 (33:13):
This will be the last cold run.

Speaker 2 (33:14):
I would think, so.

Speaker 5 (33:15):
Yeah, usually kind of we may get it like a
somewhat colder in March with some rain. You know, it
usually rains its ass off in March, but it won't
be like this.

Speaker 2 (33:23):
They're toying with my they're toying with my, my flowers
and my wilting it up. You just start to go
back and they start to wilt again. You cover them up. Listen,
I don't but you cover. Yeah, just spend more money
putting more flowers and.

Speaker 5 (33:37):
The wilt April showers. Bring May flowers. Man, it's coming.
Do yeah, you'll be fine.

Speaker 12 (33:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (33:42):
A lot of ground boxes ready to go. Man, I'm
working on them every day. They're a little barren, right, yeah,
well yeah, a little barren. Can planter boxes be barren
like the cupboard? Oh yeah, oh dude, take off the
dead from the even we cover them. But when you
cover them, it's so funny. I mean, were you putting
over a little plastic bag or something to cover him
as if the plaid. You wear a plastic bag outside

(34:05):
and tell me you're warmer. We still cover. I mean,
what do you got to You got to put a
dog on greenhouse over your house? No, man, but you
just it's you know, it's more option. I put it
out there and then you go there and you say,
you know those ones that can handle it, they go
brown and they go green again. But it's like you're flowers.
You're doing it too tight. And in the middle of
summer it's gonna happen. You're gonna get eight it's brown spots,

(34:26):
brown spots. It's gonna be so hot you can't water
four times a day and keep up. Yeah, and you're
gonna have to change them again. It's just a full
blown perpetual beat down. Yeah, okay, just give me, said
give me San Diego. Its seventy two all the time.
I would take that all day. No bitching here though.
So we need a little cold when it's cold. We
want hot when it's hot, we want cold. Deal with both,
and we get a lot of a lot more hot.
But that's a golf Weather's coming back this weekend.

Speaker 5 (34:48):
Brother, I I I don't uh you say this weekend?

Speaker 2 (34:51):
Yeah, by the well, if today's gonna be in the forties, right,
it might be. There's no wind.

Speaker 5 (34:56):
No today is uh? Today is what's it called? It's
only gonna get up to like thirty seven and then
tomorrow only I have like forty one, and then Sunday
high of like forty eight.

Speaker 2 (35:06):
Okay, right, yeah, the rains monkey wrench. Yeah, but uh
then you'd have to be Shawne two gloves. You know
what I'm saying. We're two glovestead of water on the
golf course. So I don't want to be Shawnee two gloves.

Speaker 5 (35:17):
It's why not Kenny's Kenny two gloves.

Speaker 2 (35:19):
Yeah, I don't.

Speaker 5 (35:19):
I'm not a two glove guy. Teddy two gloves, Teddy Bridgewater, Yeah,
ted to ted two gloves.

Speaker 2 (35:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (35:24):
Maybe maybe Patrick Mahomes fat ass should uh.

Speaker 2 (35:27):
John, I think it's a crounced rye on the ri
I on the golf on the PGA tour. He's a
he's a he's a two glove. He wears two gloves
all the time. Oh yeah, and he's a good player really,
Oh yeah, he plays lot. He's always hanging around. But
he's a he wears right and left glove. Really, and
there used to be there was a golfer and he
may still be on tour. His it was they called

(35:47):
him Tommy two gloves because he wears too as well.
I've only seen a couple guys wear two gloves. I
talk about when it's one hundred degrees out he's got
two gloves on, you know, slipping, so better him. I
just you know, for the most part of my life,
I I didn't wear on my on my left hand
as a right handed golfer because it's like, you know, you,
you know, you've never seen wear glove on a PGA
tour ever. Is Fred Couples, He's never wore golf glove ever.

Speaker 5 (36:09):
You knw whose roommate was in college?

Speaker 2 (36:10):
Yeah, Jim Nance went so yeah University Houston. Oh good,
make sure you but Couples is never warmed. And I
used to never wear because I like to feel of
I like to feel of a of a shaft in
my hand. Yeah, it makes sense, you know what I'm saying.
I like the feel of the shaft. And then you
know you've added a couple of wraps to your grip
because you wanted a little thicker. Yeah, you gotta have
a thick shaft in your hand. Yeah, thick grip. And

(36:32):
then it allowed me to fire at the flagstick. But
then in the summertime it starts to you know, the
grip and stuff. So it's not for cold for me,
it's so your hand doesn't slide around in a glove.

Speaker 5 (36:41):
You know what I'm saying. Yeah, you don't want to
slide on that, you know, on the shaft shaft.

Speaker 2 (36:44):
Yeah, you got to make sure you stiff stiff shaft,
stiff shaft extra, it depends.

Speaker 5 (36:49):
But you actually have a stiff shaft on my driver.

Speaker 2 (36:52):
Yeah. If your swings me, you got you gotta square
that up. So there's not a lot of Yeah, there's
not a lot of bend in the shaft. Yeah, because
I like bombing balls down a fairway bitches.

Speaker 5 (37:01):
Is that what you like?

Speaker 2 (37:02):
Yeah? Like right now when you I mean, you got
to get a get down broadway good grip, so from
cold can prevent that the heatal That's why we don't
play golf in the cold. Yeah, well some do. No,
some do No. You don't play golf when it's eighty
So what do you get?

Speaker 5 (37:17):
It's like I said yesterday, you get up about ninety
two and above, I'm out. You get soft Are you
soften up a little bit pretty much?

Speaker 2 (37:22):
Yeah? A little ac for you.

Speaker 5 (37:23):
Yeah, you know what, I just don't.

Speaker 2 (37:25):
I just don't.

Speaker 5 (37:26):
I don't like paying to sweat my ass off, and
golf's not relaxing. Golf is the most frustrating game in
the world.

Speaker 2 (37:33):
But it's if nothing else. You go out there, you
see beauty and you also get to sweat. You sweat
it out and you can say, well, I got a
good workout and there's a lot of calories when you're beauty.
I do, I do, especially in new courses.

Speaker 5 (37:45):
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I always
see be I'm a glass alf full guy. Me too.
Kinder Jeler Sean, sure, now.

Speaker 2 (37:54):
Certain people are going to get the rat but other
than that, Kinder Jentler, Okay, debatable on that one. I
might be a little hyperbolic, could be some would argue.

Speaker 5 (38:07):
Let's let's get into the seven o'clock hour here on
Sports Talk seven ninety, Cam Smith one of the astros
top prospect. What's the realistic chances that he makes it
to the big leagues this year? Joe Spotted talked about
it yesterday. Let's discuss an ex Sports Talk seven eighty.

Speaker 7 (38:21):
KB Houston a TV e HD two Houston Home of
the and the Rocket. Sports Talk seven ninety your home
for your home teams. Make Houston Sports the number one
precine on your car radio, and then you would improve
iHeartRadio app free never sounded so good.

Speaker 1 (38:44):
Saulsbury, Oby Houston.

Speaker 2 (38:49):
Okay, let's do this.

Speaker 3 (38:51):
Sean Salisbury.

Speaker 2 (38:54):
To usc Truth.

Speaker 4 (38:55):
Longtime friend shown Salisbury.

Speaker 7 (38:57):
Ryan, Lonlema, go Lobos. This is the Sean sALS Very Show.

Speaker 2 (39:05):
Rockets hosting the t Wolves tonight eight thirty, the tip
off seven thirty. Launch bad right here on seven on
your home for Rockets basketball. The Cougars hosting Iowa State
Big Twelve Conference play. It's one o'clock tip off from
the Fortiita Center tomorrow. It's going to be a fantastic
game between those two.

Speaker 5 (39:22):
Camp Smith astros number one prospect. He was a big
part of the Kyle Tucker trade. Obviously, est Soak Pereitis
and Hayden Wesnski came along with camp Smith from the
Cubs to the Houston Astros. Camp Smith's name has been
extremely popular over the first week of Astros spring training.

(39:46):
You've seen the pictures of his physicality. You've heard that
he can play some third base, You've heard that he
might play some corner outfield. They're going to give him
some run with the big league squad this spring training,
but he has been reportedly going to start with the
Double A team, the Corpus Christy Hooks. So I ask you, Sean,

(40:06):
is there a realistic chance that he makes it to
the big leagues this year?

Speaker 13 (40:10):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (40:10):
I think it'll be assuming he plays great baseball. Right,
you're assuming that his talent shines. Yes, much earlier than
a September call up. The door is open for him
to fast track his way here. If he's raking and
supplying power with it. I don't think there's any question

(40:33):
that he'll have a chance to do it. Now. Listen,
if all of a sudden, the corner outfielders are crushing
it and he's crushing it, he may get here as
a guy. But I think when you bring him up,
you're gonna bring him up for a guy who's going
to play all the time.

Speaker 5 (40:48):
You want him.

Speaker 2 (40:49):
It's like anything a quarterback, you know, I want you
to get reps like fret. Well, it goes back to
jv your sophomore. The guy in front of you is
a five star quarterback and you're a sophomore and you're
the next great thing. But you're a sophomore and you're
do you want to back up on the varsity or
go play on the jvah? You know, you know what
I'm saying, I.

Speaker 5 (41:09):
It happened to me.

Speaker 2 (41:10):
I want to get the guy in front of a
great player, right, And I was a sophomore, and anywhere
else i'd have been, I don't mean it area, I'd
have been starting as the varsity quarterback. Guy just happened
to be on with the best quarterback in San Diego
at the time, and he was two years in front
of me, a great friend, and the coach said, well,
we can put you up there. And we played our
games just before theirs, and so he put me, and
I got all kinds reps. The greatest thing I ever

(41:31):
did was getting all those reps as a sophomore, you know.

Speaker 5 (41:35):
And so it's the same thing here. You get reps,
get reps.

Speaker 2 (41:38):
And if he's raking and the guys in front of
him are playing great, it'll take longer. But if the
if the storm happens to where they're struggling in the
outfield and they're platooning a bunch of players, and this
dude's raking and he's the number one prospect in your
organization now, and he's rolling through Corpus Christy and gets
up to sugar Land and taking care of his business,

(41:58):
I would I would matter of fact, if there's a
future's bet on it, and you say, will he take
at bats in the major league level this year, I
would say absolutely, considering at least going in what we're
looking at as an outfield. Now, if you were telling
me Kyle Tucker was there and they had a left
fielder and every day left fielder, I'd say, yeah, he
may get up with a call up and get some

(42:20):
at bats, but not know, we won't be relevant enough
for us to say we see his star power. But
if he's doing what we expect and the outfield is
still platuoning, yeah, I absolutely believe he'll be here.

Speaker 5 (42:34):
So I'm going to go with I trust his talent.

Speaker 2 (42:37):
I think you see him on a major league level,
you get to a certain point where, especially you get
to a point where what are you learning in Triple
A if you're or in Double A and Triple A
if you're doing your thing in Raken, come up and
see the big boys and let's go.

Speaker 3 (42:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (42:52):
I think Zach Dezenzo is also going to get a
lot of run. Couldn't disagree with you at all.

Speaker 5 (42:57):
Agree playing outfield, I'm interested to see what Jacob Elton
does this year, Like if he's going to get the
call up at some point, I would expect him to
be the first one. I think Decenzo makes the opening
day roster, and I think Jacob Melton is not far
behind him this season, at least, I would agree. I mean,
those are three. There's a chance.

Speaker 2 (43:12):
There's a chance that all three of them can be
in a major league uniform this year.

Speaker 5 (43:15):
Yeah, depending on Alex shakes out and actually kill the.

Speaker 2 (43:18):
Three for sure. But like I said, it's not going
to hurt Cam Smith to stay in the minor leagues.
If he's ripping it and the outfield's doing a great job, right,
it's okay. But if they're not, you get to a
point where you, guys, I can't hold him down. Yeah,
you know, well, you know you could have said, what's
my guy's name? That uh in Baltimore, the young kid
who's holidays holiday? Yeah, Mary came up in stest you

(43:41):
just drove. But his swing, yeah, says you can't keep
it down. It's just and they saw it too, and
you know what, guess what he called back then that's
a he's good to go. Yeah, you had to go
down and get it. But you'll know, and so will
he and when they do that. Team's been smart at
allowing young players to come in and learn on the fly. Yeah,
and they got some good I do, man, and it'll
be the same. You're if the prospects that they have

(44:03):
in waiting pan out, Yeah, you've you've restocked the cupboard
at the major league level. It's some important positions.

Speaker 5 (44:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (44:10):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (44:11):
Chandler Rome actually tweeted out two minutes ago that the
Brendan Rodgers deal is now official for the Houston Astros,
So add that in there too. So he's gonna be
fighting to make that opening day roster if you missed it,
can Brendan Rodgers played for the Colorado Rockies, hit right
around two seventy last year. In twenty twenty two, he
won the Gold Glove for second baseman. Had shoulder surgery

(44:32):
in twenty twenty three and twenty twenty three, and had
a pretty good season last year. So gold Glove caliber defense.
Trying to make it in the mix. He's a Maague player,
he is a major league player. Trying to add in
some depth at the infield position. So all of this
is the carousel of the outfield is one thing that
I'm sure we're going to talk about quite a bit

(44:52):
this season.

Speaker 2 (44:53):
Yeah, it'd be great if we if we're talking about
it meaning they're raking. Sorry, young fellas, you got to
wait a little while. The conversation will be great. Either way,
they're either going to overachieve and we're gonna say, man,
the great decision by the Astros not to go chase
some you know, to go get Verdugo or somebody else
that if they're not, the conversation is going to be
all year long, and we get Dana Brown on Whin's

(45:16):
descends are starting every day. Whin's Cam Smith coming up?
How's Jacob Melton. You're gonna put it this way, there's
a good chance there'll be a lot of questions Dana
Brown about the dudes that aren't on the major league
roster this year, probably more than ever, considering it's the
path is a lot more paved to get there than
it's been in the past. Because every year you can

(45:37):
be playing great. There was no spots to come up
from until late in the season or somebody got banged up,
and it was usually reserved for pictures. Come on up,
get you know what I'm saying back and forth from
Sugarland now We're looking at a surplus of really good
everyday players that looks like they got a chance to compete,
and I like that.

Speaker 5 (45:55):
I wonder what pictures will be up for the Houston Nashals.
Obviously that the big popular name is aj Blueball. We've
heard his last his name last year and this year.

Speaker 2 (46:06):
I'm kind of anxious to see how they put the
staff together, the relief pitching, and where they slot him
in when we start the season.

Speaker 5 (46:15):
Yeah, hey, I'm with you. Yeah, I want to know.
I want to I want to see what that hicks
out because you got to remember Lance Paculo Junior looks
like he should be ready to go for opening Day,
but it won't be at the big league level. He's
probably gonna start down Triple A to get some starts
under his belt, because again, he hasn't pitched since November
of twenty twenty two. Luis Garcia is not even thrown
off of him out, We've talked about him. So there's

(46:37):
gonna be some young guys that are probably gonna get
some run at the big legue level before those guys
come back. Spencer Araghetti, He's gonna start on Sunday in
Jupiter against the Cardinals. Chaz McCormick, Jake Myers, and Zach
Dezenza will play in the outfield tomorrow in the opener
against the nat So no Al Tuvay in the outfield
just yet, but you will have McCormick, Myers and Zach Deznzo.

(46:58):
So there's Dezenzo's name right there. I mean, we just
talked about him.

Speaker 2 (47:01):
Ye, I like it, and that's kind of gets a
chance to show some of their stuff. The question is,
will you know the month down there will be enough
time to to to make an impact where he say,
you know what, we're willing to take the chance of
getting that guy in the lineup on a regular basis.
I'm anxious to see his power because listen, if he
squares the bat up he does, that's he's got natural
natural power. That's it.

Speaker 5 (47:23):
That's that's DNA right there.

Speaker 2 (47:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (47:24):
Now then now just you know, putting the bat on
it's gonna be the key. And also remember earlier this
week we talked about Caleb Ort and his oblique soreness. Yeah,
Joe A. Spot has said that'll quote will take some
time end quote, so he'll be behind, probably not gonna
be ready for opening day. So there's a spot opening
up in the bullpen for maybe one of these young
guys to get it figured out. Jacob Melton still has

(47:46):
some mild back soreness, so he's gonna be a bit
behind as well. There you go, man, love love soreness
in spring training.

Speaker 2 (47:56):
Sucks, man, that happens, dude. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (47:58):
Oh, I don't know the name Ryan Gusto. That's another
name to watch for the Astros this year. He was
called up last year to pitch the last, the final
game of the season, but it got rained out and
they ended up canceling the game. He got the call up,
so Gusto could be another name.

Speaker 2 (48:12):
My favorite.

Speaker 5 (48:13):
He starts on Saturday tomorrow, my favorite for Yeah, that's
my favorite.

Speaker 2 (48:19):
He's got tremendous gusto in his performance and he stays
away from having blue ball. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (48:28):
Ryan Gusto and Colton Gordon are on the schedule to
start Saturday's Great Fruit League Opening Day split squad game
for the Astros.

Speaker 2 (48:35):
Back to my my peeps at ESCO, isn't like Klon Mucco,
Gusto isn't that like with much pleasure? Is that how
I'm trying to think of my fellows? Oh, Sauzi con
Mucco Gusto with much play. Is that what it stands for?
Am I right?

Speaker 5 (48:51):
Or did I translate that wrong? Now you translated?

Speaker 2 (48:53):
All right, so Colon Muccio Gusto with our guy with
much pleasure? It will be to watch ye cool film
me Hey man mucho Gusto? Rightel Man, Yeah man, yeah,
man spent there Geeddy Thowman. I don't think he's part
of asco man, but the name is kind of cool,
they say, Salo Salz going.

Speaker 5 (49:09):
No, I'm not sounding telling you with pleasure.

Speaker 2 (49:11):
No talking about Hey, we love watching baseball and the
man we were a young players.

Speaker 5 (49:15):
Yeah man, the plota man, Yeah, that means that means
ball man, I know you know what I mean. All right,
let's get to the steak out next right here on
the Shawn Salisbury Show, shotgun.

Speaker 3 (49:30):
With someone who's thrown from the shotgun.

Speaker 5 (49:32):
Football is war helmet to helmet.

Speaker 7 (49:35):
Sewn Salisbury, Brian, you want to see what a real
football looks like? This is the Sewn Salisbury Show on
Sports Talk seven ninety.

Speaker 2 (49:50):
All right, Sean, what are you hearing out there? Now?

Speaker 3 (49:53):
The Salisbury takeout? Salisbury Takeout on the Seawan Salisbury Show.

Speaker 5 (50:02):
It's time for the steakout here on the Sean Salisbury Show,
Sean Brown and Triple League Astros and Nationals. Tomorrow first
spring training game down to West Palm Beach twelve oh
five to the first pitch. Rockets and Tea Wolves over
at the Toyota Center tonight eight thirty tip off, seven
thirty lunch bad right here on seven, one of your
home four Rockets Basketball all Right. Canada beat the United

(50:28):
States last night in overtime, Conor McDavid with the game
winning goal in the Four Nations Nations face Off Friendly
Best on Best tournament. It was fantastic. Well, there's been
so much talk about how bad the NBA All Star Game,
has been a lot of talk about how bad the

(50:50):
Pro Bowl is for the NFL, and you just happen
to have an exhibition event that the NHL pretty much
put on on a whim and it was highly successful.
It was entertaining, it was competitive, it was fantastic. PK
Subin cooks the NBA and this is what he had

(51:11):
to say.

Speaker 14 (51:13):
If you're really about sports, then you're about two things,
your teammates and the fans. And I'm sorry it doesn't
matter how much money you're making, when you do not
show up to play, you're letting your teammates down. When
you do not show up to play, you're letting the
fans down that are paying you forty fifty sixty million.
I don't care if you're getting three hundred million, congratulations,

(51:36):
But these people in here are paying twenty five hundred
dollars a ticket five grand that are blue collared, hard
working people. If you don't get your head wrapped around that,
you shouldn't be in pro sports because how are we
going to grow? How do we expect you to be
an example? Well, guess what you don't want to be.

Speaker 5 (51:53):
You are one. You're on the biggest stage.

Speaker 3 (51:55):
You just said it.

Speaker 14 (51:56):
They make the most money. You're an example. You gotta
show up.

Speaker 2 (51:59):
You got to take that on.

Speaker 14 (52:00):
I'm sick and tired of making athletes greats, all time
greats that aren't the best examples. Those are the people
that we want our kids to follow. That we want
athletes to follow. That helps us in our game. Stephen A,
you want athletes to be educated on this and understand this.
They got to understand the importance of showing up to
the All Star Game and being on the court and

(52:23):
playing banged ducks sometimes and playing injured maybe at times,
thank you, and participating. Because here's the thing, because you're
making one hundred two hundred three hundred million, you should
be out there banged up.

Speaker 5 (52:34):
You should be.

Speaker 3 (52:35):
That's why we pay you is to max out.

Speaker 14 (52:39):
We talk about greatness in it being the longevity of
somebody's career.

Speaker 5 (52:43):
I don't care if you play fifty years. I want
your best ten. I want you on the court dominating.
I want you to go all out.

Speaker 14 (52:51):
I want Michael Jordan, I want Kobe That's what I
want in every sport.

Speaker 5 (52:55):
That's the guy that I follow.

Speaker 14 (52:56):
If you're a different version than that, you.

Speaker 5 (52:58):
Don't get my respect. There's a p K soup. And
if you don't know who PK Supin is, he played
thirteen years in the NHL.

Speaker 2 (53:05):
He is. How do you add to that? Correct? Oh,
I'm a little but we hold. But you know, there
is a whether you like it or not. There's some
great players that aren't getting paid a lot, and there's
some overpaid players that don't do a lot that are
making more money than they probably should. But then there's
the guy who makes a lot of money and should
that shows up every night and you have to and

(53:27):
we we just expect you to do. But oh well,
I'm not feeling well. Oh well, oh you got a
little bit of a cold. Yeah, guess what. Take some
musin X and get your ass on the court. I
have zero sympathy, I do. I have zero sympathy. I'll
be honest with you. I don't even have sympathy. If
you've put forty minutes in one night and you got
to play a back to backer, I really don't.

Speaker 3 (53:47):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (53:48):
Oh man, I'm tired. Well, you know what, get in line, pal,
get in line. I just right, when you're making that
kind of money, sometimes you just got a sacrifice in
PK is exactly right. You do it for your obviously,
you do it for you, but that's why we pay
you a lot of money. But if you don't have
your teammates and the fans one to two and what
you're trying to get accomplished, you do your job, and
you do it with your teammates in mine and fans

(54:10):
in mind. You'll never be wrong. You'll never be wrong
as an athlete. You may not perform your best every night,
but you show up post every night.

Speaker 5 (54:18):
I'll get more.

Speaker 2 (54:19):
Put it this way, if you post every night, I'll
have a lot more respect for you then if you
post once in a while. But you're a great player.
Toughness to me, Toughness to me, garner's far more respect.
Doing something when you don't want to do it, when
you're tired, or when you go that's the sign of truth.
Can you can you get through something when you don't

(54:39):
want to do it. It's easy to do it when
everybody wants to do it.

Speaker 5 (54:43):
PK.

Speaker 2 (54:43):
Sud Man spot on what was the crazy stat for
Joel Embiid in the NBA four hundred and plus He's
played like four hundred and eighty games and missed like
four hundred and forty whatever it is. They're both in
the four hundreds. In his career, he's almost fifty to
fifty have played missed.

Speaker 5 (55:00):
As of three weeks ago, it was four hundred and
forty six games played, four hundred missed.

Speaker 2 (55:05):
And I can tell you this right now, if you
really believe that four hundred times Joe l Embiid was
hurt too much to go play or injured, that's a
that's a bold faced BS lie. As well, he was
not hurt four hundred times. He may have been tired
and missed a game, which to me is inexcusable. I've

(55:25):
got zero sympathy, zero sympathy. I've watched guys that had
no business playing in a football game still show up.
And if you're asking me, well, you think football athletes
are tougher, I absolutely do. I absolutely do. Do I
think hockey players are tougher and maybe tougher in football?
Do I think rugby players are tougher than what we say?
I absolutely do, Yes, I do, I I one unequivocally.

(55:49):
It's not a blanket statement because there's some tough people
out there, Yeah, no doubt, but that could play other
sports and be tough and play every night. But save
the comparisons, Okay, and PK Sue Band's one hundred percent correct.
The athletes are great. The uh, what's the word I'm
talking about? The want to and the ability to have
a higher threshold of pain is different. And if unless

(56:13):
you expose somebody to a threshold of pain, guess what,
they ain't gonna have it. So, yeah, because you're tired
and had played forty minutes the night before, So are
we going to start giving college basketball kids the night
off when they go forty minutes, play scored, thirty defended
on a Tuesday, then got to play somebody on a
Friday or Saturday the next Yeah, man, I need a

(56:33):
day off. No, Tom Izzod look at you, and Kelvin
Sam's looking Yeah, me too. But guess what, we don't
get a day off right now? You just had one.
We're going to play, so I don't. And well that's
that's tough guy attitude. Yeah, PK Sue Band gets it,
because don't ever mention when it comes to day to
day toughness an NBA player compared to a hockey player,

(56:54):
there is no there is no comparison.

Speaker 5 (56:56):
How many games do you think Anthony Davis is missing
his career?

Speaker 2 (56:59):
Three hundred? Close? Well, two hundred and thirty two. I mean,
you tell me, if you miss as many as you
play in it's a problem. And there's plenty of times
he hasn't. He's been perfectly healthy, sitting in street closed
Davis and Joe ellenbiid Anthony Davis.

Speaker 5 (57:17):
Back in twenty fifteen, Sean missed fourteen games with a
sprain toe. He missed twenty six games in twenty.

Speaker 2 (57:26):
Nineteen basketball that feels like fifteen games, like four months.

Speaker 5 (57:29):
He missed twenty six games sewn in twenty nineteen because
of a sprain finger.

Speaker 2 (57:36):
Well, back in the day, I can remember a couple
of guys taping up two fingers. Yeah, to get sprained finger. Yeah. Okay,
So let's.

Speaker 5 (57:45):
Missed fourteen games at one point for backspasms.

Speaker 2 (57:49):
Take a painkiller and go play. Sorry, so well we
don't occurag that I do. You gotta get on the court. Yeah, Hey,
what'll get you on the court? A painkiller shot? Okay? Well,
what if when I'm ninety seven it affects me and
I lose two days on my life?

Speaker 3 (58:00):
Oh well?

Speaker 2 (58:01):
Oh well, if you're thinking, hey, man, I was ninety said,
had I not taken that shot when I was twenty nine,
I might live five more days till I'm one hundred
and two. Great, awesome, Okay, I don't I don't want
to hear it. Okay, I'm sorry. And PK suban spot
on And it's a loud message. And if you're if
you fight it, have at it. It's not that it
gets hoop players. It's just we've created an environment for

(58:24):
a soft blanding every day. Let's see there's no comparison
when it comes to hockey and the.

Speaker 5 (58:30):
Other guys not at all. I'm trying to see how
many greats you can't take.

Speaker 2 (58:33):
Listen, when's the last time a right winger or a defenseman?
Did Chris Chellios miss a game because he was tired
because he had to play on a bunch of shifts
the night before. No, guess what he does sit in
a cold tub and play the next night and know
you're gonna probably get in a fight and get hit
with a puck right across the teeth. Okay, I mean,

(58:55):
I just I don't get it. And that's that's a
big reason why the NBA has lost a lot of value. Yeah,
it comes to people watching. They're not complaining about the talent.
The brand of basketball is a little bit different. The
talent's extraordinary, and there's some tough guys. But if you're
talking about just pure watching a game and knowing that

(59:16):
everything out there is fighting for every No, there's a
big difference, and there's some great, some phenomenal talent. It
doesn't mean they couldn't have played nineteen seventy.

Speaker 5 (59:26):
They could have.

Speaker 2 (59:27):
Just the way you approached it was different. But to
sit here and tell us that. And you know what,
they're going to just roll a guy like Joe ellen
beat into the Hall of Fame. Yeah, they're going to
roll him in because he's played well and was an
MVP and he's a hell of a talent. Hey, man,
but I got news for you. They don't know how
to spell durability. And the reason I say that if

(59:49):
you're not going to games, guess what they know how
to spell night off. I'm not sure durability is at
the top of their list. And so I can spell
night off, and I can spell when I'm in there,
I can dominate, and damn right, those guys are Those
are two of the most gifted centers we've ever had,
talent wise and Anthony Davis and Joel Embiid.

Speaker 5 (01:00:07):
But hey, look at a teammate.

Speaker 2 (01:00:10):
A man, I'm a little tired. I'm gonna take this
one off. Oh okay, you mean four hundred of them?
Now there's some of those. He's been really he's been
injured and mid out. I get it, but don't don't
sell me on. Yeah that guy, man, Durability alone has
got to be part of your process of when we
talk about the all time greats. I got to have
you out there an all time great talent, one thing,
all time great player. You got to play more than

(01:00:32):
you sit to be thrown to that category.

Speaker 5 (01:00:35):
Zion Williamson has had the possibility of playing in four
hundred and eleven games in his career. So far, he's
missed two hundred and twenty one of those. Well, here
comes number three and.

Speaker 2 (01:00:45):
Here comes number three, and those three cats together put
talent together is a twelve out of ten. But their
durability doesn't even make a one. They're all built like glass.
Well a lot of that's not just physical. Yeah, okay,
I can tell you that now.

Speaker 5 (01:01:00):
M mm hmmmm, fifty of your game.

Speaker 2 (01:01:04):
Some people listen. It may not like it. It doesn't. PK.
Su Man is spot on.

Speaker 5 (01:01:10):
It's facts, it is. That's do the metrics facts.

Speaker 2 (01:01:13):
Yeah, you want to follow that metrics card you get
and analytics do those talent? Yes? Does he show up
every night? Absolutely not.

Speaker 5 (01:01:24):
Ninety is the number to join The Sean Salisbury Show
Major League Baseball and one of their broadcast partners opting
out who is it and what are the details? That's next?

Speaker 3 (01:02:57):
The Sewn Salisbury Show continued.

Speaker 2 (01:03:02):
I think you know what I think you should do. Yeah,
grip it and rip it. Jose Jose playing left field?

Speaker 5 (01:03:10):
Correct, So we're we're told defense of second base has declined.
We know that statistics back that up.

Speaker 2 (01:03:19):
Yep.

Speaker 5 (01:03:20):
The defense for the Astros in the outfield is probably
arguably one of the worst in baseball right now. Offensively
and the arms and arms, whether you like it or not,
Jose al Twove is probably gonna play quite a bit
in left field. But if you are sitting here as
a fan and questioning his ability to play left field
because he's five to six. You're an idiot. You don't

(01:03:44):
know ball.

Speaker 2 (01:03:45):
I just sat there in w and read through a
thread from Astros fans questioning his ability to play left
field because he's five five five six. I could promise
you him being five five or five six will not
hamper his ability to play left field. If that is
what you are using as an argument for him to

(01:04:08):
not play left field, You're an idiot.

Speaker 5 (01:04:11):
Stop doing it. The fact that we as a fan
base are so up in arms with Jose al Tuove
potentially playing left field is beyond me. We have a
lot other things to worry about as Astros fans. Then
freaking Jose al tuo Ve playing left field. Get over it.
He's gonna play left field, Get over it.

Speaker 2 (01:04:32):
Okay, let me ask you're.

Speaker 5 (01:04:33):
Out the outfield for the Astros sucks right now offensively
and arm strength, deal with it.

Speaker 2 (01:04:38):
How many times a year? How many times a year?
In truth, is a left fielder robbing a home run?
Not very often?

Speaker 8 (01:04:49):
Man or chance.

Speaker 2 (01:04:50):
They may go up and jump, but it's eight rows back, yeah,
five times? Yeah, maybe maybe maybe, I'm sure there's a
stat for it. We have a stat for how many
times a guy wipes is cutter? Okay, so I'm sure
there's a stat if that was the case, Why isn't
every left fielder six five?

Speaker 5 (01:05:06):
Have you seen the wall in left field?

Speaker 2 (01:05:08):
John?

Speaker 5 (01:05:08):
Yeah, well, ain't nobody robbing that?

Speaker 7 (01:05:10):
Not?

Speaker 2 (01:05:10):
Not only that is I'm talking about an imposing ballpark.
So it was a good point yesterday. How are you
gonna rob a home run that will not present itself
but a couple of times? Exactly a couple of times now,
And he's got good speed to get the balls in
the gap. It's gonna look a little different. But I
don't know why we're so concerned about. Matter of fact,
I'll tell you this. I'll bet you there's more outfielders
that are under six to one than over in baseball.

(01:05:32):
I'll bet you probably how big is Mookie Bets? He
was pretty good. He's pretty good, I know, Kyle Tucker. Hey,
it's like anything. We want the pro, we want the
PROTOTOO and he was a Gold Glover. I want an
MVP out there. Yeah, so he's pretty good. So you
don't have to be short to play second base Ben's Oberst,

(01:05:55):
And you don't have to be tall.

Speaker 5 (01:05:57):
To play the outfield position. How tall you think Trout is?

Speaker 2 (01:06:00):
He's maybe six one, six foot five eleven, six foot
two twenty, not that big. It's rare that you get
a chance to take one off the fence. He's six
to one, Mike tru Okay, and usually when you're six
to one, you know what that means in an NFL combine,
you're six foot yeah. Right, So the point is as well,
it'd be nice, but you don't those guys, it's not Aaron.

(01:06:21):
Judges aren't roaming the outfield regular okay. So my thing is,
can you can you anticipate balls off the bat in
the gap and balls hit at you? And can you
be just serviceable enough to keep runners from attacking your
arm regularly? And that's the whole outfield? So yes, it'll
look different. But I don't know why we've all of

(01:06:42):
a sudden determined that his height doesn't allow him to
play outfield. I read now, whether his skill set allows
it or not. I think we all agree that the
guy's been pretty good at everything he's done in baseball.

Speaker 5 (01:06:53):
I mean, he's done some good things.

Speaker 2 (01:06:55):
So step Stephen Kwan five to nine, five nine, Now
what about my guy in Boston. Who's getting a Yoshida
isn't isn't the isn't the he pro far five eleven. Yes,
it's it's it's an overrated measurable. It is an over
at the plate and in the field overrated. Okay, So

(01:07:18):
I just that that if he doesn't succeed, guess what
it won't be, because that's the best way to put it.
If if al T does not play good left field,
you know.

Speaker 5 (01:07:25):
What, Yoshida's five to seven, say Louder, Yoshida. Yoshida is
five to seven playing outfield for the Red Sox Moss.

Speaker 2 (01:07:34):
He's out there playing and he's he's five seven, he said,
so he might even be five to six. So the
point is, in truth, if altuo ve experiment left field
doesn't work, guess what it won't be because because it's
height right right? So is that all that's in your car?

Speaker 3 (01:07:50):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:07:51):
That that that whole thing.

Speaker 10 (01:07:52):
Man.

Speaker 5 (01:07:52):
I just literally I read through and the fact that
people argue with people that make takes like that, it's
just stop wasting your time. Yeah, well it's not worth
an argument. It's not worth an argument. Oh he's five
to five declining in age. What the hell does his
height have to do with playing left field.

Speaker 2 (01:08:10):
If you want to say, concerned about his range in
the outfield because he hasn't played it, have had it,
but it doesn't garner a lot of movement from me.
I understand why it's in your call, a lot of
movement from you, and you tell me man his height.
But we heard that about quarterbacks for the longest time.
You way to player.

Speaker 5 (01:08:27):
You can't, you want, you want Every outfielder would be
six five sixty six. That's the that's the outlier. That's
the exactly.

Speaker 2 (01:08:34):
It's not the norm. Of course it's not. So if
he succeeds, it won't be because he's his height. And
if he does not succeed as a left fielder, guess
what again, he will not be because of his height.

Speaker 5 (01:08:45):
I just googled heights for let's see one, two, three, four, five, six,
six of the top left fielders in baseball per batting average, right,
So that's Brent Rooker, Stephen Kwan, Jerkson, Profar Loris gury L,
Brendan Donovan. And then I even scrolled down and I
put in Taylor Ward. Of the Angels, there was one
of them that was above six to two, and he

(01:09:07):
stood in at six three and.

Speaker 2 (01:09:09):
You know how many balls he jumped over and kind
a chance had on the wall if he's lucky three. Yeah,
during the season, I don't listen. Yeah, I'm not putting
them out there because he can rob homeless.

Speaker 5 (01:09:20):
It's just dumb. Yeah, it's just dumb. And I just
don't understand why Astros fans continue to worry about Altuve
in left field, because because what's changed. What the Astros
need to worry about is the seven eight nine hole
because it's not very good offensively right now right.

Speaker 2 (01:09:35):
And and and defensively and where you gonna get popp
in the outfield all that stuff. So I don't it's
it's a it's gonna look different. Yeah, but.

Speaker 5 (01:09:46):
I got news for you.

Speaker 2 (01:09:48):
If they don't succeed this year, it's not going to
be because of that. It'll be some there'll be other
reasons why they wouldn't listen they or do you like
some of the decisions they make? They do know Joe
spot is a smart baseball guy. Yeah, he's not going
to throw a guy out there that number one would
embarrass himself. Number two would embarrass the organization and put

(01:10:10):
people's jobs in Jeopardy.

Speaker 5 (01:10:12):
Yeah, he may not feeld it like a gold glover.

Speaker 2 (01:10:17):
Yeah, but I believe that he can feel it, and
so do they. That he's going to field it efficiently
enough that you can run him out there, and if not,
his ass will be right back at second base.

Speaker 5 (01:10:28):
Did Craig Bizio play centerfield, catcher, second base? In centerfield?
He's five to eleven and he moved to the outfield
at thirty seven years old, Okay, now thirty seven? Yeah,
and a second base.

Speaker 2 (01:10:37):
When you say, oh, man, Dan, he doesn't look like
he didn't have the body type of a catcher, right,
he looked like but he played centerfield, second base, and
catcher and actually was good at all of them and
then move to a position. Yeah, So listen, be blessed
that you got a guy that's got the ability to
do that. Yeah, to move around Not everybody does.

Speaker 8 (01:10:56):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:10:56):
And you know what, if you're an Astros fan, which
I am, I'm more upset about the Astros not upgrading
the outfield rather than moving alt to a to left field.
That's what you should be more focused on. You didn't
upgrade the outfield one bit, Ben Gamble, I like the
addition Brendan Rodgers. I like the addition, But there were
big bats quote unquote big bats that were out there

(01:11:18):
that played outfield and you didn't even attempt to it. Right,
that's what you should be upset about. Not al twove
at five five, five six playing left field. Get over it.

Speaker 2 (01:11:28):
He may miss a ball that he doesn't have a
seventy five inch winks or whatever the wingspan is, because
he got by his glove in the gap, and he's
gonna miss balls at every other leftild. I would have
missed too, right, So I just if he can, if
he's serviceable and plays it well, plays it good enough,
like I said. But when we're when the seed's over,
we may say, man like to get Altov back at

(01:11:49):
second base. But you're not gonna say we didn't make
the playoffs because of him, right, That's not going to
be the case.

Speaker 13 (01:11:54):
Right.

Speaker 5 (01:11:54):
So seven one three, two two, five, seven ninety is
the number to join. All right, let's talk about Major
League Baseball and a certain broadcast partner that's opting out,
opting out of their deal. That's next.

Speaker 4 (01:12:05):
We want to win.

Speaker 3 (01:12:07):
Sean Salisbury continues on seven.

Speaker 5 (01:12:09):
Ninety seven one three two two five seven nights number
to join talking Astros. What's up?

Speaker 12 (01:12:14):
Rob, Hey, guys, just want to join in with you
guys real quick, Brian, you out of no better than
to hop onto Astros Twitter, man, because they're not gonna
do anything.

Speaker 5 (01:12:23):
But uh puts she off there, dude it you know what,
Rob like, I'm not a part of that Astros twitter
group on on Twitter, but I read through a thread
like twenty minutes ago and I lost brain cells, man, Like,
I think we have a really, really good fan base,
but my god, there are some idiots in there. Oh
my goodness.

Speaker 3 (01:12:43):
Yeah.

Speaker 12 (01:12:44):
I saw one the other day and then it almost
made me call call in on it, but I decided
not to because the guy went in and he was
talking about how Crane is chief and how and why
we can't ever pay our stars. He had a whole
paragraph as far as as far as Twitter, I'll let
you write something until it cuts you off and says
you're out of letters. And the picture of the player

(01:13:05):
that he had tagged to his post was Tucker. And
I'm reading this and I'm like, my guy, you know
that he was traded money. Paying him had nothing to
do with him not being here. It was about rebuilding
our future, which we were at a position where that
was kind of a necessity at that point, still is,

(01:13:26):
and we made the most out of the situation. If
anybody's gonna get bit by it, it's gonna be Cubs
for not having some kind of pre existing deal in
place about him resigning with him, and they gave up
one of their top prospects. But you know, to go
back to your point about al Tuve, I.

Speaker 2 (01:13:42):
Mean, that guy is what a blessing.

Speaker 12 (01:13:45):
If that guy has been anything in his career, he's
that guy that is gonna step up and show you
tell me I can't do it, because he's been told
that from day once since he got signed. And if
I'm a SPOTA and he wants it, which he does,
he wants that, let's field opportunity. He's one of the
few guys that I will trust to say you want it,
you got it, let's do it, because he has proven

(01:14:08):
time and time again that he is going to do
nothing but take that opportunity and build on his legacy
with it. And these fans need to come to terms
with it. And if I can hop back for a second,
I know I'm going back and forth for those that
are bashing the organization about not re signing and not
paying their stars in this move with al tuve Hinsight's

(01:14:28):
twenty twenty. But let's go ask the Twins how they
feel about the money they've paid Korea. Let's ask the
Blue Jays how they feel about the money they've paid Springer.
And nothing against those guys. I love them and I
miss him. I wish they were still here. But a
few years down the road, I'm pretty sure we're all
thankful that we didn't pay him at this point because
they can't stay on the field half the time. This

(01:14:49):
organization knows what it's doing. We may not like it
in the front most of the time, and sure they're
gonna make mistakes, but in terms of paying players, the
organization hasn't made a whole lot of mistakes.

Speaker 2 (01:15:00):
That's all I got.

Speaker 5 (01:15:01):
Guys, appreciate you, Rob.

Speaker 2 (01:15:06):
Awesome by Rob. Their formulas worked, right. Would you have
paid seven hundred and fifty million for Soto? No? Now?
Good for good on him getting it the Mets decided to.
That feels a little desperate. Yeah, I ain't doing that.
I mean, for seven hundred and fifty million, we better

(01:15:26):
be rolling in World Series rings by the time his
contracts up. Yeah, not doing it all right? You want
to take a bet it's twenty twenty five, by twenty
by twenty thirty five. How many World Series do you
think the Mets are gonna win? None? Fair enough? If
I said it at one and a half, you'd take
the take render fifty million. Yeah, And I think he's

(01:15:49):
a fantastic player, and good on him that he got it.
They're they're not winning four World Series the next ten years. No,
they'll be lucky to win one.

Speaker 5 (01:15:58):
They'll be lucky to win one. Too much money, man, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:16:02):
I mean, good on him, But I sometimes just because
they want it doesn't mean you got to pay it.
The business photo's business models worked here.

Speaker 5 (01:16:10):
Wan Sodo Electric at the plate subpart, best in the
outfield and not real.

Speaker 2 (01:16:16):
Tall there you go, and not real tall. So he's
a and he's not a true right fielder, dude. His
arm says left field all day every day. So but
why is he getting paid? Because he can rank? Yeah,
and he's young and he's a great player, there's no
question about it, and plays big and big moments. But
seven hundred and fifty million dollars worth if I'm the owner,

(01:16:37):
there's very few guys that would sniff that. And matter
of fact, there's only one right now, and there's another
one that's close. That's right, And now you can validate
the Dodgers spending four hundred million dollars on their payroll.
They want a world's hears you still got to ask yourself,
and they'll they'll spend four hundred and fifty million if
that's what it takes. Yeah, some people have different ideas,
but that's their first world series non COVID you since

(01:17:00):
nineteen eighty eight. Then a lot of players coming go
on Dodger Stadium. So yeah, I don't I agree with
both of you guys. It's the business model. While it
doesn't you may not like it, it's had success and
for a reason.

Speaker 3 (01:17:16):
And you know what.

Speaker 5 (01:17:17):
I wasn't gonna pay Bregman forty million in the year anyway.
Ell no, so no, no, no. And they weren't gonna
be able to afford Kyle Tucker even if he stayed
here and raked it this year. No, if he's gonna
make three to fifty.

Speaker 2 (01:17:30):
If he had a bad year, you're gonna be pissed
that he's gonna leave and you're not getting anything from him.
If he has a great year, you're gonna be pissed
because he's gonna price himself out. So in twenty twenty six,
you more than likely weren't going to see him anyway.

Speaker 5 (01:17:41):
Right, So you get something for an opponent, no doubt
we'll get something for him. Seven one, three, two, two,
five seven Niney's number. Join us, get into the eight
o'clock hour. Uh, let's talk about that Major League Baseball

Did you just say? Sup?

Speaker 5 (01:19:40):

Speaker 2 (01:19:41):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (01:19:42):
Well we'll get no no, we'll get to O GQ
in if you had to, if you had to put
a rating on Seawan's technology abilities from.

Speaker 2 (01:19:49):
So far Shawn's technology application here application who would you
rank it? Sewn?

Speaker 5 (01:19:56):
I haven't seen Sean do nothing?

Speaker 2 (01:19:58):
Whoa whoa? Do nothing with? What do you mean with technology?
You mean computers? Well, here's what I know, and you
are one hundred percent correct. Here's the opposite of that.
You guys walking around you do do it, and you
guys can't get it working either. So every day, well
what the hell is wrong with these computers? And so
instead of me going through it, you go through the stress.

(01:20:20):
I sit back and say, I make it. They send
me stuff on my email here. I don't even log
onto the email of these computers because it's scrubs for
like forty minutes.

Speaker 5 (01:20:30):
Okay, So whatever it is? The reason now.

Speaker 2 (01:20:34):
Doing podcasts, doing anything when I have it in my
own private time to be able to get on work
do all things, no problem. But remember now, the more
that you tell them, you know, the more they're going
to make you. Hey, can you run the board next Monday?

Speaker 13 (01:20:48):
No?

Speaker 5 (01:20:48):
I I'd have no idea how to put How do
you send an emoji?

Speaker 4 (01:20:53):
Right?

Speaker 5 (01:20:53):
I had that going for about five years.

Speaker 2 (01:20:55):
How do you do that?

Speaker 11 (01:20:56):
What?

Speaker 7 (01:20:57):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (01:20:57):
I play so dumb? Now if you're talking about the
deep dive into all this stuff and of course I
don't need to know it. Guess what I.

Speaker 5 (01:21:04):
Treated as a union. I'm not allowed to do it, you.

Speaker 2 (01:21:06):
Know advance, So yes, but would you say, do you
guys are doing it? The difference is I'm watching you
get pissed. Yeah, and I just sit back and like
about five a good point, just as much as I
don't do just as much as you guys get pissed
that you are doing. Yeah, So I alleviate the stress
and let you guys in the eighteen minutes into the show,
it's I'm seven, and it's.

Speaker 5 (01:21:27):
Like, what's wrong with these computers?

Speaker 2 (01:21:30):
Well, I wouldn't know because I don't give a rats
assn't touch it.

Speaker 5 (01:21:34):
And I'm here to do radio and make a nation happy.

Speaker 2 (01:21:37):
Yeah, there you go.

Speaker 5 (01:21:39):
Seven seven ninety is the number two.

Speaker 11 (01:21:41):
Join.

Speaker 5 (01:21:42):
We'll start with our guy Brandon. What's up, Brandon?

Speaker 4 (01:21:45):
Good morning, Sean, Good morning, Brian Triple G.

Speaker 2 (01:21:49):
Yeah, what's up? I'm doing Okay, I'm gonna be going
to the setup for a rodeo.

Speaker 4 (01:21:58):
Did tell you this?

Speaker 5 (01:22:00):
No he didn't, Buddy, that's breaking news.

Speaker 4 (01:22:01):
Man.

Speaker 5 (01:22:01):
Glad you're telling us you're going where.

Speaker 4 (01:22:04):
We're going to set up for for rodeo?

Speaker 5 (01:22:11):
Okay, when is this.

Speaker 4 (01:22:13):
Morning?

Speaker 2 (01:22:14):
Hey?

Speaker 5 (01:22:15):
Breaking news?

Speaker 3 (01:22:16):
Everybody?

Speaker 5 (01:22:17):
Brandon's setting up for the radio or for the rodeo tomorrow?

Speaker 2 (01:22:20):
That away, Brando guy's contributing. There you go, he's contributing.
You pumped for rodeo season, Brandon?

Speaker 3 (01:22:27):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (01:22:28):
How can he not be? Man?

Speaker 5 (01:22:29):
I mean, if he's so pumped, he's ready to go.
What are you more excited for Brandon rodeo season or
Astro season? I'm no, what are you more excited for
Brandon rodeo or Astros? You got to pick one.

Speaker 2 (01:22:46):
Astros.

Speaker 5 (01:22:46):
That's what I'm talking about. Brandon. Hey, Rockets play tonight.
Don't miss it. We're quizzing you on Monday. Okay, okay, no, no,
I'm serious. Don't miss one quarter and eat your chicken
palm tonight too. All right, he's more of a he's no,
he's more of a chicken out.

Speaker 2 (01:23:01):
What's white sauce? That's right, that's his style. You got his, Brandon, Yes,
you're going to make that happen. Yes, Priddy, Brando. Enjoy
your weekend, buddy, Tell your mom we say hello? All right?
Love it?

Speaker 3 (01:23:14):
Come on?

Speaker 13 (01:23:14):

Speaker 5 (01:23:15):
No, no, no, you ready Brandon for the weekend? Yes,
I am that's what I'm talking about. We'll talk to
you Monday. Brandon.

Speaker 2 (01:23:21):
Yes, sir, there you go. You got you got a
little home shound down on chicken parm instead of chicken Alfredo.

Speaker 5 (01:23:27):
Uh huh, a little Alfredo.

Speaker 2 (01:23:29):
Tell you if you were you were a little down
on his ending enthusiasm. Yeah, you want to close out?

Speaker 5 (01:23:34):
Yeah, I got you. I'm with you, though, man, bring noise,
no argument here.

Speaker 2 (01:23:39):
I got you.

Speaker 5 (01:23:40):
Talk to Joe over in Louisiana. What's up Joe?

Speaker 6 (01:23:43):
Good morning, Sean, Brian and Triple Lee. I love to
show how y'all doing this morning.

Speaker 2 (01:23:49):
Man, great, appreciate man glad listening to us over there.

Speaker 6 (01:23:52):
Talking about chicken palm and all that other good stuff
he was talking about just early in the morning. Any Way,
my question for today is we haven't heard much about
John Singleton. Is he's still on the team, is he
going to make the team, and can he play another
position other than first base? And as far as how

(01:24:15):
TV goes, he's the one player on the Astros that
I would not bet against. If you know, he's been
bet against his whole life since he's been in the majors,
and look where he's at now.

Speaker 10 (01:24:27):
So that's all I got.

Speaker 2 (01:24:28):
I hang up and listen. I think that's a wise bet.
I wouldn't bet against him either. For a second, John
Singleton can play another position. It's called d H and
that's and it's a great question. But that's that's about it.
He is still on the he's still on the team,
and more than likely he's going to be your UH
is gonna make ship back up first base And maybe
d H gave you, but he gives you some some bandwidth.

(01:24:51):
And I think he's a good guy to have on
the roster. And he's there, Yep, he will be there.
Let's start to Bill. What's up Bill? Good morning, gentlemen.

Speaker 11 (01:25:00):
Hey, I never laughed so hard in my life sitting
here listening you guys talk about the dopes on Twitter
and debating whether five six is too small to play outfield.
I know those people out there that are probably listening.
You got a computer, you got an iphe on your hand.

Speaker 3 (01:25:16):
Look up.

Speaker 2 (01:25:22):
Each row.

Speaker 11 (01:25:23):
Ricky Henderson, Kirby Puckett was five foot eight. Now I'm
not comparing al twov to five Hall of Famers, but Henderson, Clemente,
Pete Rose, and Willie Mays were five ten or five
eleven according to Baseball Almanac. So what is six foot

(01:25:45):
and six foot five got to do a rip with
playing outfield? Can someone explain that to me?

Speaker 5 (01:25:49):
Well, we did, y'all did. Yeah, Well look it up.

Speaker 2 (01:25:56):
Guys, it's it's out there.

Speaker 4 (01:25:57):
It's that real hard.

Speaker 11 (01:25:58):
There's five of the greatest out ever suited up in
baseball history.

Speaker 4 (01:26:03):
We're under six feet tall.

Speaker 2 (01:26:06):
Pete Rose he was pretty good. He was decent. They
moved him inside and he and he was what I
an all start five positions. Yeah, he was pretty versatile.
So it turned out well for him, no doubt. Unbelievable people.

Speaker 11 (01:26:21):
I'm not going to the rodeo set up this weekend, though,
I will tell you that.

Speaker 2 (01:26:27):
Well just just kid, just get on Twitter and argue
overund al two v's height. Okay, can't wait, buddy, I
I I yeah, no, you know. I never even they
never even entered my mind about height in him playing
left field until it was brought. I never even think
about it off and think about it like we've all

(01:26:49):
we've done.

Speaker 5 (01:26:50):
Has heard so many different concerns over the last week
and a half about Alto moving to left field, and
not once was it his height? And I read this
thread and I was like, you guys have got to
be kidding me.

Speaker 2 (01:26:58):
I'll tell you this. He's going to get more line
drives just out of reach of his glove at second base,
over the top to jump. You know, those line drives,
the seeing eye single or the hard one that he
jumps up and maybe just misses, or a heart or
a hard one between the first basement and him that
just gets the right field that he misses. But the
height I'm talking about, because that'sy're talking about left field,

(01:27:20):
he'll miss more of those, or more of those opportunities
will come his way at second base than it will
making a leaping catch over a fence. Yeah, and it's
not going to be in Fenway, and it's not going
to be at the Crawford Boxes or a few others.

Speaker 5 (01:27:35):
It'll be on the road.

Speaker 2 (01:27:36):
But he'll get more line drives hit his way at
second base. Said, he has to jump for it and
either misses or catches, then he will chances to rob
a home run.

Speaker 12 (01:27:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:27:46):
So do we need a six five second basement for that?
You see my point? Some Yeah, Well make him sick.

Speaker 2 (01:27:52):
It'd be great. Line them all up six five two
twenty five and they're all great and they can play
football on Sunday and baseball the other day.

Speaker 5 (01:27:59):
Is awesome.

Speaker 2 (01:28:00):
But if you look at his versatility and being a
great teammate, I don't know why would he we would
even question if he can make it work. Yeah, I'm
not asking to go to right field and have the
best arm in baseball. I'm asking him to play left
field and make sure you do. Yeah, that you that
you play left field, even the last with the metrics
like you played second basin. For the most part, you'd

(01:28:21):
be okay because he gets by now. The arm will
be tested, we know that. But it's gonna be tested
by Myers, is gonna be tested by McCormick anybody else.
Until you prove you can throw him out. That's usually
the rule. If you're gonna fight me, you got to
prove you can hit me. If you're gonna if you're
if I'm gonna run, throw me out, and then we'll reconsider.
Until then that'll be a question about the entire outfield,
not just him. Height has nothing to do with arm

(01:28:42):
strength or the ability to jump into the Crawford boxes
and rob a home run.

Speaker 5 (01:28:46):
I think Chad mccorman's gonna do well Man who Chad mccorman,
he's a he's a hell of a player, crafty, I
mean Chadwick mccorman. Yeah, unbelievable, unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (01:28:57):
Yeah, why would anybody pretty that's his name wrong by
calling him like Chad McCormick, right, exactly call him his
real name? Yeah, Chad cha Chad mccormanck, Chad mccorman. Yeah,
I mean study name Brian not bad. I mean, you know,
I mean like Zach Devincenzo.

Speaker 5 (01:29:16):
Right, did he play basketball?

Speaker 2 (01:29:18):
One of the you know, deevid Cenzo's play the winger.
He plays wing, he's still playing is.

Speaker 5 (01:29:25):
From he played Miami?

Speaker 2 (01:29:26):
Or play for New York college? Game he had, you
know he was that he'd take you right to the
rim Devincenzo, right.

Speaker 5 (01:29:35):
Dante Devon.

Speaker 2 (01:29:37):
That's what I was about to say. He played for
Jay Wright, That's right? Uh, he might Did he play
for j or? Was j already going?

Speaker 4 (01:29:43):
There?

Speaker 12 (01:29:44):
You go?

Speaker 2 (01:29:44):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (01:29:44):
So I just but you know, call him his name,
what is it, uh, Chad mccorman, yeah, or Dante Devincenzo, Zach,
that's what got a new name.

Speaker 2 (01:29:55):
Yeah, there you go, But how dare anybody call him
by his real name Chad mccorman as opposed to his
fake name Chas McCormick.

Speaker 5 (01:30:03):
Actually, Dante Devincenzo will be in Houston to night taking
on the Rockets because he plays for the t Wolves.

Speaker 2 (01:30:07):
Really good winger, had some fun. He was explosive to
remember when he played for Villanova.

Speaker 5 (01:30:11):
How good he want with it? I believe so, yes,
I'm not mistaken. He went to Natty there you.

Speaker 2 (01:30:15):
Go, because they want four years, two and three years whatever?

Speaker 13 (01:30:19):
It was.

Speaker 5 (01:30:19):
Yeah, Jay bone right, yep, Jay wears nice suits.

Speaker 2 (01:30:23):
Man, Zachy Devincenzo, that's what we're gonna call him though,
that's right, that's right.

Speaker 5 (01:30:29):
Not to be confused with Zach the Zenzo.

Speaker 2 (01:30:34):
Plummer.

Speaker 5 (01:30:35):
You got problems, yeah, every one of them, don't we all?

Speaker 8 (01:30:38):
Man?

Speaker 2 (01:30:39):
The key The key is racist, had to be racist?
Said it two white like, yeah, two guys in here
now it's y'all. Wow, crazy man?

Speaker 5 (01:30:50):
Those there in Black History Month add all that. That's wild.

Speaker 2 (01:30:53):
You know, it's okay though, it's okay to throw y'all.

Speaker 5 (01:30:56):
Who is y'all?

Speaker 2 (01:30:57):
Who is y'all? Who is you all?

Speaker 3 (01:31:00):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:31:01):
You two? One?

Speaker 5 (01:31:02):
Oh about god?

Speaker 7 (01:31:04):
No?

Speaker 5 (01:31:05):
No, okay, wow, that's on a Friday at eight fourteen Deep.

Speaker 2 (01:31:14):
That's really deep. Didn't know that existed on this show.

Speaker 5 (01:31:21):
I didn't either. Man, hurt wild really really hurts. Wow, Triple,
he won't be here Monday, taking Monday off. It's taking
Monday off. Oh hell, all right, let's get back out to.

Speaker 2 (01:31:32):
The phone line.

Speaker 5 (01:31:33):
Rights have problems, we do yea that these very true?
Seven one three five seven, and we'll get back out
to the phone lines. Also, we got some breaking news
coming from the New York Yankees. What's that about? That's next?

Speaker 7 (01:31:47):
Let the celebration start or Sean Salisbury's Sean Salisbury Show. O,
g Q appreciate you holding.

Speaker 5 (01:31:56):
What's happening?

Speaker 2 (01:31:58):
Oh man? What's going on?

Speaker 12 (01:31:59):
Man?

Speaker 10 (01:32:00):
Was talking to the Grammy Award winning producer Triple in
a little while ago. We got to talking about some bangs.
But one thing good about kicking out out at six
in the morning is that y'all seem like y'all always
bring back my childhood.

Speaker 8 (01:32:14):
Man.

Speaker 10 (01:32:14):
I remember in the seventh eighth grade we had a
team here called the Houston Arrows and the guys. Our
coach was a friend of one of them, named Gordon Lebossier,
and he brought the guy out to the locker room
to talk to us and stuff, you know, And they say,
any of y'all want to go, And they said, well,
you know, your captain, you get the first chot, But me, hey,

(01:32:35):
I wanted to go. Let me tell you, if you've
ever been to a hockey game, that's the best entertainment
whatever be. What's not to like for a red blooded
American ath If you see guys flying around one hundred
miles an hour with a hockey stick, chicking people into
the glass, football skating, and then they even have themage

(01:32:59):
if they're gonna fight it, gonna throw the gloves down
and get out with it. I mean, what's not the light?
And I was looked after one game and they wont
like two championships in a row, if I'm not mistaken
in seven, seven eighth grade, and man, I'm gonna tell
you I've been a hockey fan ever since. And they
old kids, they have all the teeth dots out, they're
coming at the smile and out.

Speaker 2 (01:33:20):
Figure.

Speaker 10 (01:33:21):
Man, some of the best guys I've ever met in
my life.

Speaker 2 (01:33:24):
Man, Amen OGQ your spot on. The only add to
that is times one hundred. I'm with you. It's great.
Entertainment's great fun that it's fast, it's skilled, it's physical,
it's ch chess match, it's sometimes you just got to

(01:33:46):
gut it out, it's playing hurt. All those things. There's
nothing not to like. The only thing that's wrong with
hockey they don't pub their stars enough. Yeah, I agree.
If Connor McDavid was a golfer, a football player, an
NBA player, excuse me, globally, they'd know him. Yes, that's
how good he is in his sport. And so and

(01:34:10):
there's more like him, there's more like him. So I
so much appreciate their skill set and their toughness. I uh,
you never have anything to do with hockey. I'm there
to help their to do it, there to watch it,
there to support it, and I freaking love it. And
my buddy's in that business. I love them and I
never even really got there. And we need to get

(01:34:31):
him on. Jeremy Ronkhu was Induk Hall of Fame. We
got to get Jr.

Speaker 11 (01:34:35):
On.

Speaker 2 (01:34:36):
And you want to talk about a guy who will
empty the bucket, on on letting it rip on how
he feels about the scope of sports and everything right now.
But and he's been obviously was elected a while ago,
but we need to get him on and he'll you
should hear him talk about the hockey, toughness and what
goes on. Great stories, and they're great storytellers too, So
there's nothing not to like. When we get a team here,

(01:34:56):
it'll be great because then then we'll be able to
segment a lot of talk about it. Yeah, and have
guys come on here. They just they're built different.

Speaker 5 (01:35:04):
Yeah, Houston, He's an NHL team in the worst way.
Many All right, some breaking news coming from the New
York Yankees. This is really underrated news.

Speaker 2 (01:35:12):
This is crazy.

Speaker 5 (01:35:14):
Twenty five minutes ago, the official account for the New
York Yankees on Twitter tweeted out statement from Yankees managing
general partner hal Steinbrenner on the alteration of the Yankees'
facial hair policy. Oh Man how Steinbrener says, in recent weeks,
I have spoken to a large number of former and
current Yankees, spanning several eras to elicit their perspectives on

(01:35:38):
our long standing standing facial hair and grooming policy, and
I appreciate their earnest and varied feedback. These most recent
conversations are an extension of ongoing internal dialogue that dates
back several years. Ultimately, the final decision rests with me,
and after great consideration, we will be amending our expectations
to allow our players in uniform personnel to have well

(01:36:00):
groomed beards. Moving forward, it is the appropriate time to
move beyond the familiar comfort of our former policy. So
the Yankees players and personnel can now have facial.

Speaker 2 (01:36:12):
Hair change a little bit, but it's going to be groomed.

Speaker 5 (01:36:15):
Well, you're not.

Speaker 2 (01:36:16):
You're not going to see I wouldn't think that. Uh,
the zz Top will be playing shortstop the Red Sox.
It's not going to be that beard that maybe Charlie
Blackman has. Right, you probably have to keep a little tighter.
But the truth is I always liked the discipline of
so you liked it, know what? I didn't know? The
only thing I liked about it was when you come

(01:36:38):
to the Yankees, you don't get to change upon it.
There was almost that little Your empowerment ins right here.
If you don't want if us signing you all the
money means you're not willing to shave your beard or
you just keep a mustache, no, then guess what. Or
your hair is not down to the middle of your back.
Guess what, then you can go play someone someplace are

(01:36:58):
there's there's something jgle in that. But times change, Yeah,
and got beards and you know five o'clock shadows and
all those things. People just like it, and maybe a
guy feels like he plays better. People are superstitious in
sports all the time. But in truth, it's it's a
wise change, you know what, It's a wise change. And
watch every fool they're gonna go all hockey. Watch what

(01:37:20):
the Yankees do. They're gonna go like all like playoff
hockey where they play off beard, you know, the rally
beard that they all put on all NHL players grow
in the playoffs, and he just grows and grows. Even
if you're one of those twenty two year olds, it
can't grow a beard. It's a patched beard. I can't
wait to see Aaron Judge with a beard.

Speaker 5 (01:37:35):
You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (01:37:36):
There's gonna be things that are gonna look different. But
the policy changes and really good change if the majority
of them want to change. So that's why I change.
And good on the house Timbrenner for actually listening. Yeah, exactly,
And just you know, I'm gonna make it. You're gonna
do it this way. You can still run a tight
ship without you know, it doesn't need to be a

(01:37:57):
scraggler where there's a bird living in your beard.

Speaker 5 (01:37:59):
Yeah, so you can you can still be growing well,
you know the obviously, you know we always talk about
not we but people always talk about how women wear
makeup right, and it can change how they look. Dude,
you take a beard off, Alex Radugo, Dude, you take
a beer.

Speaker 2 (01:38:15):
As one of the ugliest human beings to walk to start, Dude,
you take you take a big off some of these
entertainers and some of these actors and some of these
Alex Verdugo, you take a beard off them and it
looks like their chins up by their nose. Yeah, it's
a bad look. Some of it like look, oh what
a ruggedly handsome guy pulls it off. You say, oh, dude,
put the beard back off. Yeah, oh there is.

Speaker 5 (01:38:35):
It's like Kenny Chesney when he wears a hat. I
used to hear that all the time. They were like,
oh my god, Kenny Chesney's hands. Tell the dude take
his hat off. It's just what he's bald, Yes, bald.
Some guys look good. Bald Chesney's is different. He wears
that hat all the time, right, But it's just it's
it's listen, man, I don't have one issue with it.

Speaker 2 (01:38:54):
If I'm a Yankee right now, my agent or my
marketing group is going after a million, multi million dollar
deal on a grooming grooming commercial because you're.

Speaker 5 (01:39:08):
Gonna go to the Yanks. They see all these times.
It wouldn't let us.

Speaker 2 (01:39:10):
Now, look, I'm a Yank and it's New York Madison
Avenues right there, the Manscape right yeah there, you go
go get them, because that's that's a time to pounce
on the endorsement. It's New York Madison Avenues there all
the advertiser. You go get one of those deals, saying,
see even the Yankees love our product. Bam, and your

(01:39:33):
guys speaking on I just wrote your I just wrote
your next million dollar deal, Yankee. Somebody's and I'm telling you,
by the end of this year, if somebody's not doing that,
then their marketing group did not do the right thing.
They There is no doubt that's a pounce opportunity right there.
Too easy, man, that is too easy. I mean, look
at this guy, got poor Alex Verdugo man, yikes. I

(01:39:55):
mean he's he's ugly regardless, respectfully, but when they made
him shave, poor poor guy.

Speaker 5 (01:40:04):
He'd make a skunk's butt pucker dude, I'm kidding. It's bad.

Speaker 2 (01:40:07):
He's not. He's handsome in his mom's eyes. He'd make
a train, take a dirt road. Couldn't sneak up on a.

Speaker 5 (01:40:18):
Glass of water? This guy man, the poor guy well,
and in the fact that he's still a free agent
is crazy to me production wise, But wherever he goes,
thank god, he's able to grow a beard again.

Speaker 2 (01:40:29):
Look at that. Sean m Yeah, tighten the beard up
and grow it, Doogie, please, for the love everything, some
guys need the beard.

Speaker 5 (01:40:39):
They sure do. All right, we teased it a couple
of times. Let's get to it. Major League Baseball parting
ways with a certain broadcast company.

Speaker 2 (01:40:46):

For the Shawn Salisbury Show continued, Yeah, you don't call
it kofefe.

Speaker 2 (01:42:44):
Last time you had some hot coffee? Hot coffee? Yeah,
oh dude, it's been you don't have it. It's twenty
five degrees out. You don't have hot coffee. I had
my ice coffee this morning. Ice coffee. Yeah, well it's
not ice, it's in the fridge. Okay, So if you have,
I've told you I've never bought a I've taste them.
Out of it, like you know how to come in
the a cold A cold coffee? Yeah, yeah, cold brew.

(01:43:05):
I've had a couple of those. Yeah, that's what I had,
this one right every morning?

Speaker 3 (01:43:08):
Right.

Speaker 2 (01:43:08):
So when I say in the middle of the summer,
I'll drink hot coffee, you look at me like, dude,
it's hot one hundred and five.

Speaker 5 (01:43:13):
What are you doing drinking? So why don't you live
up to that in the cold weather?

Speaker 2 (01:43:17):
Yeah? Well, what can I look at you when you say, oh,
I have a cold brew and it's twenty five degrees out,
you're not having hot coffee?

Speaker 5 (01:43:23):
You can you can look at me, however you want
to show up just to be late? Did you took
it right out of my mouth?

Speaker 13 (01:43:28):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (01:43:28):
To pause, but yeah, yeah, yeah, I took I took
the words right out of my mouth. Oh what did
you think I was a pull of your hair? Oway? Yeah,
I drink I was drinking cold brew when it snowed.
Work from home, all right? So why do you why
are you down when I want to drink a hot
You know how I like my coffee. How do you

(01:43:50):
like your coffee? Sean black and bitter? Oh okay, you
know I triple he knows that. Yeah, why know that?

Speaker 2 (01:43:55):
Because we've talked, all three of us have had this conversation.
Why do I know that?

Speaker 5 (01:43:59):
Yeah, I didn't know that. Maybe because we've talked more
than your Maybe man, maybe man, he's black and bitter.

Speaker 2 (01:44:06):
Well, I don't think he's bitter at all. He is
African American analytics tell me he's black. Okay, so to
the optics, just a hunch, just a hunch, okay. But
you know what, as far as uh bitter, I've never
had him. He's never been better one day that I
can remember. So ever, he's a hey, he's every day

(01:44:28):
brings the same.

Speaker 5 (01:44:29):
Energy, all right, do get off his nuts?

Speaker 3 (01:44:30):
Man?

Speaker 1 (01:44:31):
Whoa?

Speaker 2 (01:44:31):
Whoa?

Speaker 5 (01:44:32):
What that's that hurts? No? Okay, yeah, no not at all.
But yeah, I like my coffee black and bitter.

Speaker 2 (01:44:40):
So why in the world. But you can't criticize me,
or you can if you want to. I don't know,
big deal. But if I'm drinking black coffee in the
summertime it's hot, and you say, Sean, how well you're
drinking cold brews, who's more screwed up? Probably me?

Speaker 5 (01:45:00):
We'll do somethingad then there's no bankers. I feel like
I feel like hot coffee is twenty four seven, three
sixty five regardless. That's for me, yeah, right, for a
lot of people. So your change up is brew. Yeah,
but you don't drink hot coffee, right, No, I don't know.
I do the cole Brew. I don't like the super
So that's like preference. Yeah, I like Colbrew.

Speaker 2 (01:45:18):
But you're a little baffled, you're a little wompy jot
at why somebody would drink hot coffee one hundred and
ten degree weather.

Speaker 5 (01:45:23):
Yeah, it's kind of a habit when you do.

Speaker 2 (01:45:25):
And I'm not a big two three cups all once
a week maybe, like usually it's usually for me, it's
like on a Saturday morning watching yeah, watching college game
Day or read Drummond do her cooking show on Saturday.

Speaker 5 (01:45:39):
You think I'm kidding, dude, No, I know you're not kidding.
Go to food deck work that is.

Speaker 2 (01:45:43):
I wake up, get it going, and then bam, I
got a hot, hot cup of black coffee bitter too. Yeah,
and turn on a TV. And I'm saying, okay, read,
what are we going today? What are we cooking today?
What kind of brunch we got? Goings? Football? See, she'll
do it like tailgating. And I'm sitting there watching it.
Then I'll quickly go over to fix her upper show

(01:46:03):
and then I'm to call. Usually by that time, like
this week, eleven College Shops is on. Yeah, oh yeah,
read drumming dude. Yeah, you're like, what's I want to think?
I'm an interior designer now and a cook there probably
will be like, hey, man, I just went to school
Design's got myiorsign certificate.

Speaker 5 (01:46:22):
It's it's don't be official. I don't think I have
a signed by Yeah, Brian, I just got my woodworking apprenticeship.
I now signed architects. Exactly. I'm building my own home
because I'm an idiot, and you look like why not?
And the benefits are here, they're there, And I said, well,
seany you have a career, what are you gonna do
with it? I don't know, build a table. I'm not

(01:46:43):
sure what I'm gonna do with it. Probably nothing. Build
I get to say that, I get it exactly.

Speaker 2 (01:46:49):
Yeah, but I'm gonna read drumming cooking. Yeah, Cook's on
a dude. She's in like season twenty four of and
she comes up with some phenomenal, phenomenal recipes. Yeah, and
you let good. You'll cook you like it. Yeah, you
might see something you like. Okay, I'm gonna try that
that sundwich or something. You know, she puts it on
and it's simple stuff. But so I'm into that, the

(01:47:10):
cooking shows and the Fixer Uppers. Honestly, watching Fixer Uppers
and got me wanting to get a woodworking.

Speaker 5 (01:47:16):
Oh I was gonna say, to fix up your house
even though it's like it was a fixed up new build.

Speaker 2 (01:47:20):
Yeah that's how what. Let me just tear that down
just to see if I can build it back up. Yeah,
that's what's the idiot in. Yeah. But always, the journey
for me is the destination. Eh, great, I got there.
The journey for me is far. I guess I like
organized chaos.

Speaker 5 (01:47:34):
That's Sean. What's the most accomplished thing you did in
your life?

Speaker 12 (01:47:38):
Ah?

Speaker 5 (01:47:38):
You know, I got this woodworking degree when I was sixty.

Speaker 2 (01:47:41):
Yeah. Oh yeah, Sean.

Speaker 5 (01:47:42):
Didn't you play in the NFL? Yeah yeah for a decade,
didn't play two years of Kennedy. Yeah, I want to
break up. But man, when I was sixty, I got
that damn certificate and I made myself a picture frame.

Speaker 2 (01:47:52):
I'm actually more proud of being a certified mediator and
getting a master's degree at that in my late fifties. Yeah,
as I am throw the touchdown pass, I swear to you,
I am. Maybe it's just the time it happened where
you're likely, I wasn't thirty. I do it to be
able to stop down and discipline yourself to do it,
Morning Drive Radio. Right, it's it's more the Okay, I

(01:48:14):
sent my mind to it, made a promise to my parents.
I got it. So I actually am that I can
actually go mediate your your your your your battle with
little league. You know, if somebody get hit with the baseball,
then I then then throwing the baseball or playing high
school baseball or college or playing the NFL.

Speaker 5 (01:48:31):
I really am.

Speaker 2 (01:48:32):
I know we joke about it, but I'm like, I
don't know if I'm ever going to mediate anything, but I.

Speaker 5 (01:48:36):
Can my tenure elite team first tournaments.

Speaker 2 (01:48:37):
More.

Speaker 5 (01:48:37):
Are you coming eleven fifteen? Rosenberg?

Speaker 2 (01:48:42):
Oh you're out by my crib far far like Foster
is like Foster, why not public?

Speaker 5 (01:48:50):
You don't tell me where I live?

Speaker 2 (01:48:51):
But no, I'm saying, like where I'm playing the ballpark.
You know what, Uh it's supposed to rain though, right.

Speaker 5 (01:48:57):
Yeah, it's's rain all day tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (01:48:58):
I will guarantee you the next good day that you
have a really good clear weather. I'm gonna watch you
do work if you don't, but if you don't get run,
well I'm there. I'm gonna be pissed off. You got
to get run while I'm there. One game, I've gotten
run a few times for me, just just like you know.
You're like, I've gotten run for shoving an opposing coach. Okay,

(01:49:19):
well you don't need to shove, but I want you
to go turn the hat backwards and go toune totel
with the un and get run so I can say
that's my guy.

Speaker 5 (01:49:27):
We're gonna talk about that for four hours ago. But yeah, yeah,
hell yeah yeah. I've never done that, though, No, I've
I've gotten my money's worth one time. I think I've
been run by an umpire twice called being competitive man
the other times. The other time was for shoving an
opposing coach in Dallas. Every now and then, somebody, you know,
somebody needs a swift ass whooping.

Speaker 2 (01:49:46):
Man.

Speaker 5 (01:49:46):
This old dude walked all the way across the field
from the first base coaches box across the field loud talking.
It's so yeah, of course, yeah, of course. He's one
of those guys that he got in your face and
then slowly puffed his chest out to where it makes
contact with you. And he was also when he was talking,
he was spinning, so it was getting on me and

(01:50:07):
I just.

Speaker 2 (01:50:07):
I had enough. I launched his old ass. You think, yeah,
it's and I got tossed. It's fine, give you, give
you the heave hold. I got it on video.

Speaker 12 (01:50:14):
There you go.

Speaker 5 (01:50:15):
I'm protecting my kids. He wouldn't stop talking. Yeah, well
he's running his mouth to my assistance and my kids.
You don't don't talk.

Speaker 2 (01:50:21):
And all I told him that set him off was
I was like, hey, man, you got something to say,
say it to me. I'm the head coach. And he
flipped a lid. He just did you soaun, I'm forty,
I'm a man.

Speaker 5 (01:50:29):
I saw whoop your ass for the head coach of
that team was like my height but bigger. And he
came sprinting towards me, and I said, I'll whoop your
ass too. You know, there you go, come on, bring it.
He would have got his lis in, but yeah, just
get run.

Speaker 2 (01:50:42):
Maybe the half backwards, kick some dirt Yeah, I would
love to come watch you guys see these when I
was young.

Speaker 5 (01:50:48):
I love watching these young kids, especially good players on
my ten. Don't play the ten, no, And then you know,
during the summer, we're probably gonna see Striker Pens throwing
ninety seven. Like I said yesterday, as a as a
fifteen year old, fifteen year old, yeah, that'sretty impressive. That's insane.

Speaker 12 (01:51:01):
Man.

Speaker 5 (01:51:02):
Let's get to breaks right here on Sports Talk. Seven
ninety seven one three two one two five, seven ninety
is the number to join us to Shawn Salisbury Show.
Coach Stark here, touchdown, Texas, You've got Sports Talk seven
to ninety Houston's hold of Longhorn football back to the
Shawn Salisbury Show.

Speaker 2 (01:51:20):
And ESPN have mutually agreed to opt out of the
final three years of their TV deal.

Speaker 5 (01:51:26):
This coming live EARN Live. This is coming from Evan Drelich,
senior writer for The Athletic. He tweeted it out yesterday.
In a letter to owners, Major League Baseball said quote,
we do not think it's beneficial for us to accept
a smaller deal to remain on a shrinking platform. End quote. Also,

(01:51:46):
Commissioner Rob Manfred noted that he has quote not been
pleased with the minimal coverage that MLB has received on
ESPN's platforms end quote, excuse me, good for Major League
Baseball because ESPN sucks at MLB.

Speaker 2 (01:52:00):
I will tell you this on their shows on TV
that aren't baseball focused, which they don't even do baseball
tonight anymore. Nope, that when's the How often do you
see at nine in the morning during the playoffs an
analyst on their talking baseball? And I got news for you.

(01:52:21):
The group they put on their morning drive shows or
their morning their morning shows TV. They they would know
baseball from a hockey stand. They bring in Jessica Mendoza
like twice a year. Yes, she knows baseball Ravage, but
I don't see Ravage doing guest appearances on here that
they're they're not their Their attention to baseball is quite

(01:52:45):
frankly pathetic.

Speaker 5 (01:52:48):
You get no baseball.

Speaker 2 (01:52:49):
They will talk about Aaron Rodgers and the Jets on
opening Day of baseball and have no guests on or no,
they don't even need a guest. I'm talking about somebody
in their building this right down hallway. Yeah, or in
the case of them, if it's in New York, where
they're doing it on one of these shows. Have somebody
drive in and be you know, for the opening week
guest appearances. Yeah, I you know what, Rob Manford doesn't

(01:53:14):
get a lot of love. This is a great decision.
They say, yeah, you can opt out, get out, We'll
find somebody else because they well, let me just put
you this way. And I'm not saying it's not important.
They'll cover Game four of the WNBA more than they
will the playoffs of Major League Baseball, and they shows.

Speaker 5 (01:53:30):
That's a fact.

Speaker 2 (01:53:31):
And it's not the women versus the men. I'm talking
about the popularity of sport. They'll cover Lebron sitting out
of a game more than they would a no hitter
and a in a clean sweep Red Sox Yankee series.

Speaker 5 (01:53:45):
Oh, I take that back. They'll cover that series.

Speaker 2 (01:53:47):
But the people talking about it don't know much about
baseball because they're telestrating football or talking football. They want
them to talk about you know that, not that they can't,
but they just don't. That's it. Not that they can't
talk baseball, because I'm sure they can. I'm sure they watch,
but they don't talk baseball, and I their coverage is minimal.
You would actually, if you're watching the ESPN, think that

(01:54:08):
they had no involvement in baseball. Yeah, their coverage sucks.
It's awful, and even on their website it sucks. And
when I was in when cruck and it was awesome
baseball and I wasnominally good every day all the wall.
But they just kind of make it a they'll cover
anything that's not baseball, and a lot of it on
their morning shows. Just tells you they're not adept at

(01:54:28):
talking it with their non baseball guys, and then they
don't bring their baseball people in.

Speaker 5 (01:54:33):
Yeah, listen to uh, what's his name Steven Asmith talk baseball?
He doesn't.

Speaker 2 (01:54:37):
The only guy that talks baseball that's a guest on
it is Russo's he's really and he he loves baseball
and he knows it. He got old school news, is Russo,
and that kind of saves their base He basically is
their baseball spokesperson in the morning. When he comes on,
you know, what does it get up? Or what's the
one with what's the one with the first take? When
he comes on first, he's he is your baseball insider

(01:55:01):
and guest. Yeah, I don't blame MLB. They can get
far better cover from MLB Networking Fox and they will,
and it will.

Speaker 5 (01:55:10):
It's day. They don't cover it very much. It sucks,
It's true. So I don't know what it's gonna look
like as far as what kind of TV deal they're
gonna go get. Maybe it is with the Apple TV.

Speaker 2 (01:55:20):
Uh, they're gonna have so many trouble finding a partners
they'll dave. Ernie Johnson is really good at baseball, really good,
and you get every day. I'm with you. And by
the way, Joe's gonna call the opening game for ESPN. Yes,
I did see that. Good. I'm glad. I'd love to
hear Joe. About four years since Joe's called baseball, it'd
be nice to have him back. Yeah, if if for

(01:55:40):
a game or two. Yeah, I'm looking forward to it.

Speaker 5 (01:55:42):
Yeah, that is going to be good stuff. All right,
let's get into the nine o'clock hour. Seven one three, two,

Before we talk about these Houston Cougars and a big

(01:57:26):
matchup tomorrow in the Big twelve against Iowa States. Get
back out to the phone line seven one three two
two five seven, I dwiny, what's up?

Speaker 13 (01:57:33):
Good morning, gentlemen. I was called because I listen. I
listened to the game yesterday, the first baseball game, and
I was watching it, and I noticed the way I
guess they do this in preseason is they put the
starters uh in for a couple of innings, and then
they pull them out, and then you've got all these

(01:57:54):
other players out there that you know, are battling each
other and are doing pretty good. But but the one
thing that I'm seeing yesterday was that pitching UH machine
or whatever they want to call it, the.

Speaker 5 (01:58:08):
Automated that's it.

Speaker 13 (01:58:11):
And then so uh, the the way Rick Monday explained
it was that it's going to cover the entire front
of the plate, and that's it. But it's it's the
way that these pitchers are trying to make these strikes
and curves and stuff like that move over that plate,
and man, from from what I see yesterday, they're going
to have a hard time doing that because the way

(01:58:34):
that machine is centered and then the front of the plate,
you know, uh, But those they they said that the
batters could protest if they wanted to, and a couple
of batters did. But other than that, I mean, it
was the machine did really good. I wouldn't I wouldn't
want to see it in Major League Baseball because the umpires,

(01:58:56):
I think, do a better job. But hey, I'm just
hoping and praying that you know, it works out. Okay
one day, all right, guys, appreciate you.

Speaker 2 (01:59:05):
Appreciate it, Dane.

Speaker 5 (01:59:06):
Yeah, they had the ABS system going with the Dodgers
and Cubs spring training game yesterday. I saw that the
pitcher and the catcher camera fills for the Cubs or Dodgers.
One of them challenged it it was a ball, and
then they overturned it with that view and they got
it right. And another question like when when you see
the excuse me, when you see the pitch, your first

(01:59:28):
instinct is, how the hell does the umpire not get
that right? But yet you have this ABS system. They
reviewed it. Boom, it was right, yep, So I'm okay
with it. Yeah, we'll see how it goes throughout all
of spring training. At some point, I'm sure we'll see
it in major League baseball, So we'll see how it goes.
All right, let's turn our attentions of college basketball tomorrow, Sean,

(01:59:49):
it is going to be a fantastic atmosphere over at
the Ftida Center. College game Day is there. The gates
are like the gates and stuff are opening up at
five o'clock tomorrow morning for stud dents to get into
the Fertida Center. Cougar's hosting Iowa State top ten matchup
Big twelve on the line. It is going to be
wild over there.

Speaker 2 (02:00:09):
Yeah, it's going to be great. And uh, I love
the fact that they're coming here. This game is huge.
It's huge as you continue your quest for a one seed.
Right what are the the five seed right now?

Speaker 5 (02:00:18):
So Houston, Uh, they'll go up. They'll probably get to
number four if they win this weekend.

Speaker 2 (02:00:22):
Oh, they're huge.

Speaker 5 (02:00:24):
It's uh, Cougar's are now or they're right now, they're
number five. Iowa State is number eight. When I say
five seed, they're number five in the country. Yes, in
Iowa State's really frigging good. This is epic matchup. Man
epic matchup on a nice dinner game at the at
the Fertida Center. It's at three o'clock or five o'clock,
one o'clock.

Speaker 2 (02:00:43):
Oh, it's one, that's right, because we talked about the
game at eleven o'clock in UH, Texas at A and M. Right, yeah,
and they are they are hosting another good team. Who's
A and M.

Speaker 5 (02:00:53):
Got coming to the Sea, Tennessee if I'm not mistaken.

Speaker 2 (02:00:55):
Tennessee at A and M for the eleven o'clock er,
and it's a one o'clock so you get yourself a
good lunch game over there, and of those day games
at for Tita Center and college game tables at Jay
Billis and the group coming yep, and Reece Davis, let's go.

Speaker 5 (02:01:06):
Yeah, number six Tennessee at number seven Texas A and
and that's an eleven AM two.

Speaker 2 (02:01:11):
Back to back games in the state of Texas tomorrow
and it ain't football that are epic and gonna be
a great watch. And I'll be there for forty minutes of.

Speaker 5 (02:01:20):
Both Iowa State at Houston. That's a one o'clock tip off.
And if you look at the Big twelve Tech not
Texas U of h they've lost one conference game and
that was the ECU. No Texas Tech are.

Speaker 2 (02:01:33):
There, and Texas techs a national title type team. The
way they're playing right now as well. But Houston's been
a really did they ramp up their game on.

Speaker 5 (02:01:43):
The road as well? Yeah, Houston leading the Big Twelve
at fourteen and one in conference play, Arizona at twelve
and three, Iowa State at eleven and four, and then
Texas Tech also at eleven and four. That's your top
four teams in the Big Twelve. That kind of falls
off after that, right b YU at nine and six,
Kansas at eight and seven, Baylor eight and seven, TCU
at eight and seven.

Speaker 2 (02:02:02):
So Baylor usually doesn't hover around bad bat you know,
average basketball. They've they've had a good program that they've
built that the Drews drew Is built and coach and
they you know, they've always been good for uh for
a while now. They've building a good basketball program. But
they're struggling obviously.

Speaker 5 (02:02:18):
Yeah, you know, I'm pretty pretty upset man at Deon
Standers not able to you know, get the Colorado Buffaloes
and basketball up to where they need to be.

Speaker 2 (02:02:26):
You know, maybe maybe he could start coaching them too.

Speaker 5 (02:02:29):
Could be either one and fourteen, little struggle. They're not
the football team right now.

Speaker 2 (02:02:34):
They need they need maybe need the same uh influx
of enthusiasm and banded with the Dion brought to the
football team on the basketball program. So but that being said,
you call them coach Prime, I call him coach Sanders
or Dion. Yeah, but I would expect to this A
and M. Tennessee game to be lights out and then
followed up with a great physical battle with Iowa State

(02:02:55):
here against Houston.

Speaker 5 (02:02:56):
Who do you think has the best defense uh per
points allowed in all of college basketball?

Speaker 2 (02:03:01):
Well, I could tell you they may not be first,
but they're not fourth or third when it comes to
University of Houston.

Speaker 5 (02:03:06):
Houston Cougar's number one. There you go, they allowed just
fifty seven point six points per game. The North Texas
Mean Green number two at fifty eight point eight, the
Drake Bulldogs fifty nine point two, Tennessee Volunteers sixty and
a half. And then the Saint Mary's how do you
say that? Gaels Gae Gaels, Gales YEP sixty point seven.

Speaker 2 (02:03:26):
Gale Force Wind They they are Saint Mary's a really
good program. Man asking Zaga Saint Mary. That's always been
good stuff there in the past. And matter of fact,
you know, the first I think the first foot basketball
letter I got was either Army with coach Krzewski as
an assistant and with Saint Mary's.

Speaker 12 (02:03:46):
Really.

Speaker 2 (02:03:46):
Yeah, when I was like coming out of my freshman
sophomore year in basketball, they were one of the first
that came out and at that point in time, they
were a good program. But they've grown into a really
good program over the years. Yeah, And I'm just thinking
about it because you know how you have an affinity
for the first person that ever like contacted you. It
doesn't matter what part of life. It's like, Man, they
came after me first. Yeah, and I have always when

(02:04:08):
I say had an affinity, I've kept an eye. Then
they're West Coast team, so I've watched them plenty. But
that's a that's a been a good program for a
while now. So but they and they're defending as you said,
but University of Houston defense isn't going to be a
problem in the tournament and an effort and contesting shots,
just making sure they're knocking down shots at the right time.

Speaker 5 (02:04:28):
Point differential Duke leading the way in the country twenty
plus twenty point one, gonzagat number two plus eighteen point three,
and then there's U of h plus seventeen point seven.
You see San Diego Tritons seventeen point six, and then
the FIDA gator is seventeen point four. It's impressive. Top five.

Speaker 2 (02:04:47):
That's margin of victory average, that's a point differential. Yeah, ye, impressive.
You of h is just good all the way around.

Speaker 4 (02:04:53):
Man.

Speaker 5 (02:04:54):
Sure, if they can stay healthy, they will be a
Final four team. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:05:00):
IM going to bet him here shortly, like right like
this hour or no, only this weekend. I bet the game,
but I'm also going to bet them tournament wise. Get
out there in the future and pick it.

Speaker 5 (02:05:11):
You know, you mentioned Gonzaga. They're not they're not very well.
I mean, they're twenty one and seven, but they're just
kinda eh.

Speaker 2 (02:05:16):
Yeah, we can think about that. You're calling them twenty
one and seven just kind of uh yeah, but they're
they've built upow they they are becoming a blue blood program.

Speaker 5 (02:05:22):
They're twelve and three in conference and the uh what
is it the Western West Coast Conference WCC.

Speaker 2 (02:05:29):
Every year you go, every year you start a season,
Gonzaga is going to be When you say, oh, who
do you like? Gonzaga will be put in your top
you know, eight programs at your They've become a powerhouse.
And Mark Few, why would he leave? Making big money
in the place, Why would you leave? And you know
every year it's like as Mark Few going somewhere. Now,

(02:05:49):
why would you? They get in top recruits and they
play a brand of basketball that's that is a national power.

Speaker 5 (02:05:54):
You look at that conference, that conference tournament will be fun.
Saint Mary's fourteen and one, Gonzaga twelve and three, sanfrs
Go twelve and four, and then Santa Clara ten and five.
It's not a guarantee that Saint Mary's is gonna win
that one.

Speaker 2 (02:06:05):
Oregon zacha and you know what, but you wouldn't be
bad off taking a bet that says those two will
meet each other in the conference final. But yeah, that's
a sneaky good conference. It in the tournament, they'll beat
a couple teams from that con That conference will represent
itself in games.

Speaker 5 (02:06:21):
Well, seems to always no doubt work out that way,
no doubt other than that. The college basketball Slate this weekend,
I mean, it's okay, you got Auburn and Georgia. George
is not very good. Auburn should curb stop him. Ut
Rio Grand Valley taking on Nichols. That'll move the needle
over in Thibodeaux, Louisiana. I mean, with the two games here,

(02:06:47):
really all the matter. Yeah, that's about it. Now there's
other ones.

Speaker 2 (02:06:50):
But the matchups are you know, you're talking about national
championship type matchups. This is this is tournament type stuff
this weekend. Kentucky at Alabama. That'll be okay, it's a
really good game. It's number seventeen Kentucky, number four Alabama.

Speaker 5 (02:07:02):
That's a really good game. Five o'clock tip off.

Speaker 2 (02:07:05):
Three epic games like that. Yeah, you'd be craving that
on a football weekend. College football weekend, we get it. Yeah,
with hoops that's a good point. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:07:12):
Hey, Triple E's Prairie View Tigers Panthers Panthers, Sorry, Praierview
Panthers hosting Arkansas Pine Bluff over at the Willie Nicks Building.
There you bet on the bluff.

Speaker 2 (02:07:26):
Yeah, no, no, no, no, no Panthers, No no, no, Panthers.
Dog you're taking the view. Yeah, not to show the view.
Schoolm you still watch the view. I know you're a
big fan. What's that crazy chicks name? Sonny hosting? Sunny hosting?

Speaker 5 (02:07:42):
What do you mean crazy chick. Yeah, what do you mean?
There's like eight of them all.

Speaker 2 (02:07:46):
I know that she's one of them. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:07:49):
There's no more diarrhea of the mouth program than that group.
That's one of them.

Speaker 2 (02:07:53):
Okay, is I don't care who they vote for. They're
just complete diarrhea of the mouth every day on everything. Okay, impossible,
and it's a putrid watch. Yeah, So no, I don't
want watch it. And we're not laughing with them, so
they're getting laughed at. Okay. I'd love to go on

(02:08:13):
that show just to just to get have one chance
at about a thirty minute beat down they wouldn't like, no,
of course. Well I'm not a big enough name to
be on that show. But I can tell you this,
if somehow I could fool them and talk my way
into it, that'd be I would love sitting there and
empty and the bucket on the that that putrid watch. Yeah,
an embarrassment. Yeah, it's better than that though, So no,
I don't watch it. I'd far rather be watching Prairie

(02:08:37):
View Hoops.

Speaker 5 (02:08:37):
Play Yeah, man, Arkansas Pine Blove you going triple I
would not, But we get down in the hoops though,
you are, I know we do rush money down.

Speaker 2 (02:08:47):
Damn run the panthers, I promise you.

Speaker 3 (02:08:51):
All right.

Speaker 5 (02:08:53):
And they're playing them at the crib, aren't they. Yeah, yeah,
we at home.

Speaker 2 (02:08:56):
But yeah, let's show.

Speaker 5 (02:08:58):
I'll make those some cheddar on that one. You gotta
throw some chad, some scratch. You don't bet the games.
Some gwop. Yeah, the gwop is really good if you're doing. Yeah, yeah, man,
I like it.

Speaker 2 (02:09:10):
I'm in.

Speaker 5 (02:09:11):
I mean, I let tow pace over to on there. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:09:15):
I respect all the money, Okay, I respect all the money.

Speaker 5 (02:09:19):
Oh yeah, doesn't matter if it's pay so Canadian.

Speaker 2 (02:09:22):
Dollar, dollar, iron c notes, stacks, stacks, benjis, Benji's Yeah, yeah,
all of them. Yeah, I'm in. It's all green and
straight cash, straight cash, Homi homie. Yeah it cashes there,
go with the go with the view. That's no cap
on a stack for real, for real good and you

(02:09:43):
know what, bet pray of you and no cap okay,
feel me?

Speaker 5 (02:09:48):
Hey hey, Speaking of stacks and money, the Texans were
ranked number one in a specific category.

Speaker 2 (02:09:58):
Well, you'll understand why the offensive line went real good.
It has to the defense penalty. Yeah, it has to
do with money.

Speaker 5 (02:10:06):
What is that about? I'll talk about it.

Speaker 2 (02:10:08):
Next, the Salisbury Show continues, Well, it's Jerry Rafferty. My bad.
They're brothers, I think, isn't it.

Speaker 5 (02:10:18):
I don't know?

Speaker 2 (02:10:19):
Is it maybe Jerry Rafferty. Maybe Jerry Rafferty was the
one who played guard for the Cowboys back in the day.

Speaker 5 (02:10:24):
Offensive spinning Cowboys. Zach Martin retiring by the way, Yeah,
long term, nine time All Pro Bowl, not Pro Bowl,
All Pro and more than.

Speaker 2 (02:10:30):
Likely a first ballot Hall of Famer in five years.
Hell of a player, Jerry Rafferty. There you go said,
would you call him Barry Rafferty? No, you called him
what would you call him?

Speaker 11 (02:10:40):
What?

Speaker 2 (02:10:40):
Rafferty? Bill? Bill Rafferty not to be confused with Bill Raftery,
right the college basketball Alan Onion. Yep, no doubt your
style though? What about it?

Speaker 5 (02:10:54):
So that's your jam? Anything by Baker Street by Rafferty. Yeah,
like a good saxophone. Yeah yeah, what do you like it?

Speaker 2 (02:11:03):
You just like it in the song?

Speaker 5 (02:11:04):
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Don't don't think when I
ever asked you that you winked at me when you
said it. So, I don't know what I just remember.
I just I just stared up weird stared deep into
your eyes. I know the weird didn't you endo that?
Then that's just sid I'm an eye contact guy.

Speaker 2 (02:11:15):
Bro.

Speaker 5 (02:11:16):
Oh okay right, you know yeah, yeah, stop doing that.
You know you ever heard of Action Network? I have,
so bet you can. You can do some betting on
there if I'm not mistaken. Yeah, a little gamble. They
put out a report for the twenty twenty four NFL season.
Here are the most fine teams of the season. The

(02:11:36):
most what fine fined?

Speaker 2 (02:11:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:11:40):
The Texans recorded their highest total in fines in five
seasons and were the only team to exceed a million
dollars in fines by the league. They were fined three million,
one hundred and fifty three thousand, six hundred and fifty
two dollars. The next closest was the Chargers at nine
hundred and three thousand dollars, So they were like two
million plus ahead, is what you're telling me?

Speaker 2 (02:11:58):
Yeah? Now, remember when it finds people saying that many
fins with that many personal foules, finds are uniform fines.
They're talking about every single thing that comes through there
leaving the bench. Find Yeah, all of it. Your socks
were below your calves. Fine and when you're saying, Sean,
do they really do that? The answers, yes, pull your
socks up, keep your jersey tucked in. If you're playing

(02:12:19):
with your socks down the whole time. They think that said,
that's not uniformity. I've actually been walking around a pregame
warm up and a guy comes said, Sean, you're gonna
pull your socks.

Speaker 5 (02:12:27):
Up the before the game.

Speaker 2 (02:12:29):
Yeah, it's two hours before the game. My socks are down,
so my calves can actually breathe. But they do. Left
the bench in a preseason game because a fight broke
out and there were three guys trying to beat up
on our guy, John L. Williams, and as a rookie,
left the bench. Literally a handful of guys did without
a helmet, which wasn't real smart right to go out

(02:12:51):
there and get into the fracas because John L. Was
our first round pick out of Florida and a great player,
great dude, but regardless, it was just a natural reaction,
you know, actionary. And then about three weeks later, two
weeks later, I get a I get a notice in
the mail and they find you for a leaving bench.
Oh yeah, so all those fines, but they they they
lapped the field, dude, three million for you and less

(02:13:14):
than a million for everybody else. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:13:16):
Yeah, there's a lot of a lot of fines in.

Speaker 2 (02:13:18):
Some of those obviously were finds in game and personal
fouls and late hits and stuff like that, but it's
also a bunch of other stuff.

Speaker 5 (02:13:26):
They let in fines and Laramie Tunzel lead in penalties.

Speaker 2 (02:13:28):
Well, I can also there's a shock I can also
tell you this if there was in house fines for
pre snap penalties. Laramie Tunzel's broke. Yeah. Okay, yeah, that guy.
But they got to get better at that. They've got
to get more disciplined, you know what the bothersome part
of this is. And it's shocking to me with the
Miko rants because you know how I feel about him,

(02:13:50):
that this organization was so undisciplined last year, and I
think that had a big part in them not finishing
at times and moving on there there. And I don't
think it's a concentrated not you know, not this one.
But I told you a lot of times, when this
stuff goes, you turn the other cheek at practice, yep,

(02:14:10):
and then it carries over to Sonny and you wonder
why and that doesn't feel like the way Demiko's coach,
the way he played and the way he does his business.

Speaker 5 (02:14:17):
But for whatever reason, he is the leader of this team.

Speaker 2 (02:14:20):
And when you look at those fines, even though we
joke about it, when they come across your desk and
you look at the discrepancy and you to everybody's you sure,
and I don't want to hear, well, they got it
in for the Texans. No that they don't. They have
it in for everybody. And there they are letter to
the law when it comes to this stuff. So whatever
the finds, the reasons, the little things your team did

(02:14:43):
not do as well. And it shows in some of
those fines because those are fins. You don't know about
that the NFL and the team does. It's got to
stop three. They got to get better. They got to
get better. They just do. And you said the next
clos one was the Chargers with under a million. Yeah,
well that's way too much. And pre snap penalties will

(02:15:03):
get you beat. Let alone stupid penalties. Controllable penalties like
when the ball moves, you move. What a novel concept. Okay,
can't put the guy as the best left tackle in football.
If if eighteen times a year he's moving on a
snap as good as.

Speaker 5 (02:15:20):
He is, I just can't do it. Yeah, And when
you look into this offseason, the Texans are projected to
have just five million dollars in cap space.

Speaker 2 (02:15:28):
They got some, they got some, They got some capologist
expertise to make sure they infuse into making this thing
work and maneuverable. I can tell you this also the
first priority. You better go out and scout out on
your own team. You better find what it is in
their DNA or somewhere else. Your new offensive line coach
and offensive coordinator, you guys better find some dudes that

(02:15:51):
just as soon pull your heart out and feed it
to the opponent. Yeah, as opposed to let the game
come to you. When it comes to offensive lineman. I
better bet. In fact, if you lead the league in penalty,
if you lead the league in fines next year, it
better be from an offensive lineman ear hole in, somebody
who cheap shot at your running back in the secondary.
I'll live with those not all the time, because that

(02:16:12):
fifteen yards he gained, I give it right back.

Speaker 5 (02:16:15):
No, you get my point.

Speaker 2 (02:16:16):
If you're going to send a message, make sure it's
loud and make sure it's taking care of your team.
But unforced airs and tennis gets you beat all the time.
Unforced airs in golf get your beat all the time.
Unforced airs in football get you beat. And unforced airs
can be caused by an opponent, but pre snap, if

(02:16:37):
you can't control that, you you might as well put
your head between your legs and kiss your season goodbye. Yeah,
you can kiss it good ba exactly right. You'll touch
them all and it won't be in the postseason in
late January. You'll get to make it to early January,
but you'll be watching the rest of it just like
the rest of us. Yeah, down in can't Coon Man
got to fix it, Cabo gotta fix it. Yeah, they
do have to fix it.

Speaker 5 (02:16:58):
I mean they got one of the most expensive offenses line,
so they need to get that figured out of.

Speaker 2 (02:17:02):
You're gonna have to play like it, yeah, because it is.
They were a detriment at times to this team. And
that's just that's the the cold heart facts and quite
frankly metrics of the whole situation.

Speaker 5 (02:17:11):
Yeah, gotta fix it. Got a really really good update
from an Astros picture this morning at Astros spring training.

Speaker 2 (02:17:18):
Who is it?

Speaker 5 (02:17:18):
And what's going on J. Barr and Barbecue, Sean. Yesterday
the guys came into the studio. Haffey, the general manager there,
brought us one of those big ass cinnamon rolls. That's
fantastic because they got breakfast foods over there at jbarm
as well.

Speaker 2 (02:17:31):
Yeah, you mean the cinema. It's weighed four pounds. Yeah,
it's got so much it's a fact. Okay, you can
do dumbell work on it and get yoked. But the
location we talked about off the charts, great parking. But listen,
all that being said, you better have good people inside
the building and you better have great food, and they

(02:17:53):
got both, and then the setup and the venue and
the indoor outdoor. Brian, I love convenience before and after. Hell,
it's a place to go even when there's not going
to be Astros or Rockets games, because you know, it's
a it's a destination stop for pre and post game.
But it's also one of those hey man, where you
want to go to barbecue, drive an hour to get there.

Speaker 5 (02:18:10):
It'll be worth your trip. They've got brisket, pork ribs,
turkey pulled pork, chicken, sausage, jalapeno cheddar sausage. The sides
are phenomenal. They've got brisket burgers, they got regular burgers,
they got Caeso loaded fries. They have free parking because
they got their own parking lot. And it's just a
couple of blocks away from diik In Park and the
Toyota Center to two zero one Leland Street over there

(02:18:33):
near east downtown. It is your pre game spot, your
postgame spot, the best barbecue around. If you don't love
that barbecue, then you have You've never tasted good barbecue.
Now that's a fact. That is a fact. They've also
got a badassch brunch menu, So get over there on
the weekends. Have you some momosis, Have you some cold
beers knocked down that brunch beer.

Speaker 2 (02:18:51):
You're a big guy for you, Yeah, you're mimsy boy.

Speaker 5 (02:18:56):
Yeah you're the one that order them for.

Speaker 2 (02:18:57):
You, for you while I'm drinking some hard cor Ginnis.

Speaker 5 (02:19:00):
Yeah, dude, that's fine. It tastes even better at Jbar
M Barbecue.

Speaker 2 (02:19:04):
Yes, they do. Jbar MBBQ dot com Again two two
zero one Leland Street, your pre and postgame spot for
Astros baseball and Rockets basketball.

Speaker 5 (02:19:14):
It's Jbar m Barbecue.

Speaker 3 (02:19:17):
The Shawn Salisbury Show continued.

Speaker 2 (02:19:21):
J Barker. He did play for Alabama that I knew
you did that up Yeah, yeah, seeing married to Saravans. Yeah, yeah,
already go that I was talking about Alabama. He also
played in the Canadian Football League. He sure did. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:19:34):
He was thirteen uh thirteam All SEC at one point. No,
I'm sorry, third team All American back in ninety four. Yep, nineties.

Speaker 8 (02:19:45):
There you go.

Speaker 2 (02:19:46):
That was the nineties.

Speaker 5 (02:19:47):
That can't confirm ninety four, you can't deny it. No,
Billy Ray Cyrus was at the Rodeo in ninety four
right here in the city of Houston. Bill Cyrus was nice.

Speaker 2 (02:19:57):
Yeah, sure was.

Speaker 5 (02:19:58):
Hey, here's some morning updates from Astros camp. Al Twove
is not gonna run bases today because he's been running
in the outfield so much.

Speaker 2 (02:20:07):
That's okay, he'd probably get thrown out anyway.

Speaker 5 (02:20:09):
Yeah, I was gonna say, and he's too short. Spencer
Arerengetti starts Sunday, so you're.

Speaker 2 (02:20:17):
Gonna continue to add to the mispronunciation of l Blanco
on Monday, row Blanco Roebel Yep, yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:20:27):
Renel Blanco on Monday. Spence righety on Sunday. And then
here's the big one you're ready to get. He's got
some long, long term potential here. I think he does too.

Speaker 2 (02:20:34):
I like his grind.

Speaker 5 (02:20:35):
Here's the big This is the most important guy, right
he is? Yeah, this is the most important You ready,
Alex Bregman's playing in Boston. No, we're passing that now.

Speaker 2 (02:20:43):
Yea.

Speaker 5 (02:20:44):
Luis Garcia, lou Garcia, he threw a bullpen yesterday.

Speaker 2 (02:20:47):
There you go call the mayor. Well, you probably in
the parade. You probably got him fired up. We call
him fat, say it? Louder Sean sal called him fat.
When you called him fat? I did call him fat
with an F. Yeah, we all did. Tripley and I
were trying to figure out if it was with a
pH no, And I said, is it.

Speaker 5 (02:21:08):
With a pH? And I said no, you said no
with an F.

Speaker 2 (02:21:11):
He s fat.

Speaker 5 (02:21:12):
You shamed his facts, you called him. I believe you
compared him to your girl Dan de Moss.

Speaker 2 (02:21:18):
And did I thought you mentioned Lizzo? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (02:21:21):
Did you No?

Speaker 5 (02:21:22):
Lizzo lost weight though, Yeah, yeah, she's trimming down now
I'm talking about Dank the Moss. The Moss is the
new Lizzos she's the fat rapper. Yeah, that couldn't get
in a lift.

Speaker 2 (02:21:31):
Yeah. Well, like I said, forkleft but not a but
you see fat shamed lou Garcia. Yeah, he's probably going
to be a cy young winner because of you.

Speaker 5 (02:21:39):
Probably she's good. So you used you use a little
reverse psychology.

Speaker 2 (02:21:43):
Yeah, call him fat and he'll look at his body
and say, man, I used to be thick with two c's,
now I'm fat with an F.

Speaker 8 (02:21:49):
No.

Speaker 5 (02:21:49):
I think he came in a little out of shape.

Speaker 13 (02:21:51):
You do.

Speaker 5 (02:21:52):
No, it's not reverse Psychloedica.

Speaker 2 (02:21:53):
He's fat, okay, but but he could change it if
he gets going to a pH Yeah that's what we're hoping, right, Yeah,
but right now you're going fat hurts when you do that.
So this this who said it again? Triplyho that's right.
We're in this love together. So if you say it,
we all believe it. If I say it, then you're

(02:22:14):
all in. It's ironic. If I say it, you don't believe,
He's like, well, Sean, that's on you. It's like, but
a guy got you with the d S nuts shoke.
You blame you said, got us, us got us. So
that's what teammates do. There be a good teammate. Don't
be the Rafael Devers of of the Shawn South. We're
not willing to switch help out right, What do you mean?
So so if you call it fat and I say, well,

(02:22:37):
I think he's just thick, big boned. We all think
he's fat. He's not thick though, Hey, everybody has an opinion, Brian,
he's not big bone I should say maybe he's fat. Yeah,
he's not six five in thick, he's he's kind of fat. Okay,
well maybe he's Maybe he's the and I have the

(02:22:59):
pictures to get it'd be pretty bad that the fat
loves better than skinny low.

Speaker 5 (02:23:03):
Okay, some guys were like that. So was skinny Forrest
Whitley better? Or was thicker forced Whitley better? Were very good?
They weren't very good.

Speaker 2 (02:23:10):
Hopefully he'll be better. Just hopefully there there you go. Okay,
what's the fat? What's the actor that's on the moneyball?

Speaker 13 (02:23:19):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (02:23:19):
Jonah Hill, Jonah Hill? You fat Jonah Hill, Skinny Jonah Hill,
skinny Jona Hill.

Speaker 2 (02:23:24):
I like fat Jonah Hill. Jonah Hill is pretty funny,
but I feel like he was funnier when he was fatter. Well,
he used to be really fat, and it wasn't like
when he was in that movie Knocked Up. He was
fat as hell. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:23:34):
Well, and then he slimmed down a bit.

Speaker 2 (02:23:36):
Funnier when he was fat. That's true, but I might
be wrong. But the health purposes, we want health here
in this country. Okay, right, So encourage lou Garcia instead
of disparage him.

Speaker 5 (02:23:46):
Yeah, I'm gonna write a letter. I'm gonna go see
the boss and say, oh, somebody's already done that.

Speaker 2 (02:23:53):
Yeah, we did get an email. I did.

Speaker 5 (02:23:55):
I'll take the one on that one. I'll take the rap.

Speaker 2 (02:24:00):
David, guess what you did?

Speaker 5 (02:24:02):
Called her fat? You read the letter, she's fat. Sometimes
sometimes you just.

Speaker 2 (02:24:08):
Got to get enthusiasm, right, and sometimes people motivate you
not to be fat. Yeah, okay, so there you go. Yeah,
there you go.

Speaker 5 (02:24:16):
Well, I mean, get your ass in the gym. Yeah,
or does he better?

Speaker 4 (02:24:19):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (02:24:19):
Mix it a salad sometimes without blue cheese. Yeah, right,
there you go.

Speaker 2 (02:24:24):
Sometimes you gotta add limon, squeeze over yea, and bore
yourself into hating food exactly.

Speaker 5 (02:24:30):
Man, just figure it out, you know, call yourself a
bigger lift.

Speaker 2 (02:24:33):
I'm with you.

Speaker 5 (02:24:34):
When you have a radio station and a radio show
having to wheel in half of a couch for you
so you can sit down. That's a problem, all right.

Speaker 2 (02:24:44):
We like to be a little more giving love to
him and say instead of half of a wrap around couch,
it was a love seat seat right, love seat, Yeah,
seated with love love seat. Dude.

Speaker 5 (02:24:57):
I'm gonna tell you what.

Speaker 2 (02:24:58):
You give that a little spank once they come back
and it's a tsunami right back at you, you know,
a little tap and it's like comes back and hits
you four times. You tell about Dan Demon, Yeah that cutter,
No that yeah, I mean it's you put a wide load.
So you're telling me that when on the back of it,
when my guy, my manager from the White Sox, when
he come out when Bobby Jinks was he hed bet

(02:25:19):
him out of the bullpen. What's my guy's name, the
fiery plays russo mb why he come out when he
called for Bobby Jinks, he'd go like this, He put
his arms like he was putting around a fat guy.

Speaker 5 (02:25:34):
Fat guy right right?

Speaker 2 (02:25:35):
He did that.

Speaker 5 (02:25:35):
So how would how would he get your girl on there?

Speaker 2 (02:25:40):
That?

Speaker 5 (02:25:40):
What would what would OZI have to do?

Speaker 2 (02:25:43):
Four guys lined up, did all of them reach out,
you know when they like, I know, you know what
she probably needs to but you know, in a lift,
you know when the big big lift, you know when
like heavy construction equipments being moved from side to site
on a flatbed trailer.

Speaker 5 (02:25:58):
In fourteen sixty three, and yeah, it'll be there till
twenty third. They got the wide load on the back
and then they have like the the trucks that guide
them in the front.

Speaker 2 (02:26:07):
You can't pass them because you'll hit it because they're
using up two lanes. Yeah, yeah, that's her. Wow, I
think that, you know, maybe a little workout, Maybe she
sh'uld be fine in a month or two times four hundred.
So she's a biscuit away from five hundred and eminem
away from five hundred.

Speaker 5 (02:26:26):
But who's counting. She was on another podcast and she
literally said, she was like, I don't think I'm out
of shape.

Speaker 3 (02:26:31):
Straight up.

Speaker 2 (02:26:34):
Well, let me put it to you this way. If
she was a wild to beast, that'd be the one
that the lion would track down and always get tracked
down running that I feel a little more affectionate towards
her than you do. I mean, you're you're kind of mean,
But what do you mean, I mean, you know, well,

(02:26:54):
I'm trying to help her to success and you're trying
to bury her. Yeah. Yeah, unbelievable, you know what I mean,
TRIPLEI you know what I mean, trying to help it.
But you know that Bryan's disdained because she's like a
few pounds overweight.

Speaker 5 (02:27:06):
You're talking about Baron. Do you know that you know
those coal miners, you know those big ass excavators, like
the giant ones, That's what she would have to dig out.
It's like a people mover. Yeah, exactly, Well it's an
earth mover yea yea yeah, one of those big ones.

Speaker 2 (02:27:17):
Yeah, Biggins's understatement.

Speaker 5 (02:27:21):
All right, let's get into the final segment. Here on

Speaker 8 (02:28:08):
Skin? We want strake couch store.

Speaker 2 (02:28:14):
This is Creed? Is this Creed?

Speaker 12 (02:28:17):
Yes?

Speaker 5 (02:28:20):
Yes, spring training guys, let's.

Speaker 13 (02:28:24):
Go what.

Speaker 5 (02:28:32):
Look man, I'm a big Creed guy. I'm not sure
about this one.

Speaker 2 (02:28:41):
I love Creed. It's an awesome cologne. What do you
mean a group Creed? Yeah, they'll do it a pitch.
You're sneaky good?

Speaker 11 (02:28:47):
Right?

Speaker 2 (02:28:48):
What song is this? It is a baseball cut Marlins
will soar buddy like it?

Speaker 10 (02:28:58):
You like us?

Speaker 2 (02:29:01):
Yeah? Okay, I don't really?

Speaker 12 (02:29:04):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (02:29:07):
Yeah? Is this our new theme? So no, nope. So
it's a one and Donner one hit wonder cut. Get
go go Astros. No, don't do that. Yeah, do not
do that. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (02:29:17):
I will not get played this year, Yes, it will.
We already played it.

Speaker 2 (02:29:20):
Song will not get played during the game this year
during during during the week week this year on the week. Yeah. No,
don't do it. Yeah, come on, all right, watch what happens.
What happens, You'll see it will come at you when
you least expect it.

Speaker 5 (02:29:35):
What he said the same thing about the text and
song too, So man, go ahead, how was that super?

Speaker 2 (02:29:42):
Oh that's right? They did. Whoa, whoa man? How was that?

Speaker 5 (02:29:46):
How that one work out for you? The refs man?

Speaker 2 (02:29:48):
Oh yeah, well now you just the Astros will finish
in fourth place because of this.

Speaker 5 (02:29:53):
Well, I mean yeah, they got a short left fielder. Man,
they're not gonna win anyway. I can't rob balls above
the Crawford box exactly. Yeah, it's only a thirty foot
jump because yeah, there you go there, Yeah, come on,
speaking out two Bay. He was running in from left
field this morning. Trash ass song. He said, quote the

(02:30:15):
outfielders are coming end quote, oh nice, two Bay's he's
he's embraced.

Speaker 2 (02:30:21):
Is buying in. Yeah, what's his first name, Hosey. Hosey.

Speaker 5 (02:30:25):
Yeah, I love Hosey ove Altuve coming in from left field.
He believes in it, gets in a foul territory, makes
the Cats two down, bottom of the seventh.

Speaker 2 (02:30:36):
He's fashionate and he loves it, and he's a Hall
of Famer, So why wouldn't he be able to adjust.
If he loves it, he'll be good at it. In
my opinion, he just is not. I mean, you're not
going to see like a wheel onion. Roberto Clemente throwed
a home plate, probably, but that's okay. You can survive
it in left field without having a rocket launcher.

Speaker 5 (02:30:55):
For an arm. Do you want to hear one of
the here's another dumb ass question for somebody on Astros
to what are you ready for this? Who put some respect?
I'm not putting respect on It's the worst questions that
I'll tell you if you should, it's one of the
worst of all time.

Speaker 2 (02:31:08):
All right, all right?

Speaker 5 (02:31:09):
So uh Chandler Roam tweeted out, the outfielders are coming
set Jose al two a running in from left field
following cuts and relays.

Speaker 2 (02:31:16):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (02:31:17):
Some guy Astros fan said, tenfoil hat time, Chandler, do
you think part of this move to the left is
so that Altuve can show leadership and professional expectations to
our weakest group of players. I know they are all
pros and whatnot, but iron sharpens iron. Chandler Rome simply said, no,
can't he do that from second base? What a dumb

(02:31:38):
ass question?

Speaker 1 (02:31:40):
Now?

Speaker 5 (02:31:41):
Oh my god.

Speaker 2 (02:31:43):
The part that if you would have said, hey man,
you know great thing about al two vase he young
players can learn from him. Of course, it doesn't take
playing left field to teach it out. I mean yeah. No,
And Chandler, what a priceless answer. No, No, need to
dive into that one any further. So that's put some
spec on the question.

Speaker 5 (02:32:01):
That's a dumb ass question, Sean, Yeah, well, I know.
Do you think the part of this move is so
that al Tuove can show leadership and professional expectations to
our weakest group of players as if he hasn't been
a part of this organization since twenty.

Speaker 2 (02:32:14):
Eleven and they didn't bring him in from another team, saying, man,
they brought a guy in here, let's see how he
does it. He's going to show them. They he's been
he's been on that roster for a minute. So the
truth of the matter is, I think they know what
he brings when it comes to leadership. He's not allowed talker,
he just he just his performance wherever he's been has
always just been by the way he plays, you know, effort.

(02:32:36):
So listen, everybody just doesn't quite.

Speaker 5 (02:32:38):
Get it sometimes, Brian, quite literally, one of the dumbest
questions I've ever read in my life.

Speaker 2 (02:32:43):
Well, go ahead, go home, lay down, have a beer,
have a mimsy at home, and kick your feet up
and with your dog.

Speaker 5 (02:32:50):
Oprah.

Speaker 2 (02:32:51):
Right, Yeah, yeah, hang around Harpo. I'm gonna start calling Yeah,
hang around harpo, grab yourself a mimsy, yeah, kick your
feet up and watch replays of Castle, and you're gonna
be and.

Speaker 5 (02:33:02):
You'll be over the question before you know it. I
might start watching Breaking Bad again, but.

Speaker 2 (02:33:06):
You'll be so frustrated by you might go respond to
the question I'm probably thinking about, you're thinking, I'm really.

Speaker 5 (02:33:11):
About the tweet back and be like, this is the
dumbest question I've ever read.

Speaker 2 (02:33:13):
Thank you. Then you're gonna be in a forty forty
tweet battle with the guy who all, yeah, that's coming,
you know that one. Yeah, yeah, I got a word
for that.

Speaker 5 (02:33:29):
That's what we're doing this season is I'm calling out
dumb ask questions from as.

Speaker 2 (02:33:34):
We should have it once a week segment on I'll
stop my tweets of the week. I'll stock pile them.
Doesn't hurt my feelings. Dumb ass people. We might be
involved in them a few times a week. That's fine.

Speaker 5 (02:33:45):
I'm not gonna be that dumb, but well maybe I won't. Yeah, yeah, hey,
you know what, Hey, jose Hosey, Hosey, We're gonna move
you to left field because we want you to show
leadership and professionalism to uh to Chaz and Jake Myers.
If you of that at second base, yeah yeah, and
you haven't been their teammate for the last three years either,
so so I were moving you to left even though

(02:34:06):
you're too short.

Speaker 2 (02:34:09):
Dumb ass people, man.

Speaker 5 (02:34:10):
The play I can't wait to see how two they make.

Speaker 2 (02:34:12):
Is that high fly ball to the left field in
Fenway that Bregman hits and he's gonna go up and
rob it up. The thirty seven foot monster or whatever
however tall that damn thing is. Yeah, all right, all right, man.
You know everything's about measurables, man, it is.

Speaker 5 (02:34:31):
