Chasing Cheddar is the story of a group of American university students investigating the Great British Cheese Heist during their summer abroad in London. It unravels the bizarre true story of a multimillion-dollar artisan cheese heist in from London's Borough Market and the global investigation that followed. What begins as the disappearance of 22 tons of British cheddar becomes a deeper look at trust, tradition, and the vulnerabilities of small food producers in a globalized economy. Reported by a team of American journalists on the ground in the U.K., the series blends crime, culture, and humor to explore how something as ordinary as cheese can sit at the center of an extraordinary international mystery. Chasing Cheddar is a production of Switchboard Magazine and IEI Media. It’s hosted and produced collaboratively by Marlee Card, Cole Jarvis, Juliana Simon, Ian Curtis, Lauren Blanton, Jason Steinfeld and Madeleine Green. Additional producers are Lilly Bartilucci and Zoe Dahan. Executive producers are Sara Ganim and Celia Aniskovich. Music for this series comes from Epidemic Sound. Special thanks to The Podshop in London and IEI Media program director, Ilene Prusher.
A Lorry Full of Truckles introduces listeners to London’s historic Borough Market, where a routine delivery of 22 tons of handcrafted British cheddar — worth hundreds of thousands of British pounds — seems like a triumph for local cheesemakers. But when the buyer vanishes without paying, the celebratory sale quickly turns into an international mystery.
The Cheesier the Better takes listeners inside the farms that made the stolen cheddar, where reporters travel to Somerset, England to see how this prized cheese is crafted by hand. Instead of devastation, they find pride. Cheesemakers who see the theft as strange proof of the value and global demand for their work.
Culinary Crackdown follows the investigation as reporters uncover new details from police suggesting the cheese heist was far larger —and more organized — than first reported. As arrests mount and experts weigh in on the world of food crime, the story expands beyond a quirky theft into a look at international supply chains, fraud networks, and the shadowy economics behind luxury ingredients.
