Welcome to Cinema Role, the podcast where we let the dice decide! Each episode, we roll dice to choose a movie, how we watch it, and to drive our discussion! Cinema Role was born out of a podcast idea that was very different from where we landed, though that tends to be how we do things when we get together. Fish randomly asked, “You know what would be fun?” and as we talked about it, we realized that we could maybe pull it off. So we came up with the name, found an idea that resonated with both of us, and worked hard to figure out a plan for a podcast that would be fun, different, and maybe just a little silly. Kind of like us! We hope you enjoy it too!
Oh Happy Day! Fish and Squid were really excited to get to bop along with Whoopi Goldberg, Lauryn Hill, and the rest of the cast and characters of Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit. While they hadn’t covered the first Sister Act, it didn’t stop them from diving into the amazing soundtrack and the marketing efforts for this energetic 90s music comedy. Well, you’ve made it to the Cinema Role episode for There Will Be Blood. (See what we did there?) In this lengthy tale of an early 20th century oil man, Daniel Plainview deals with growing a business, raising a son, and fighting against a church where the brothers (and sisters) act like he’s ruining more than just the land. Fish gets back in the habit when he covers Cinematography while Squid discusses the rather scan...
Heading on back to the 70’s for some western comedy, Fish & Squid laugh and groan their way through Mel Brooks’ classic, Blazing Saddles. Squid gets artsy with Cinematography while Fish focuses on Continuity from scene to scene. While the movie has some language and violence, don’t worry if you’re squeamish. There won’t be blood… this time.
Warning: Spoilers for Blazing Saddles within.

April 28, 2026. Today I rolled with Fish and Squid for their episode about Bridget Jones’s Diary. Their coverage of Cinematography and Color Theory went into great detail, blue soup and all. I enjoyed this episode, easily giving it an A, (unlike Mark’s ugly reindeer sweater).
