A Daughter’s Journey in Faith is a quiet exploration of faith, scripture, and life through the sermons of a small-town minister. After her father, Kim Wilson, passed away in 2024, Jennie began reading the sermons he wrote and delivered to a small church in Iowa. What began as a way to help the congregation continue hearing his messages soon became something more personal — an invitation to explore her own faith. In each episode, Jennie reads the scripture and sermon her father wrote, followed by a short reflection on what stands out to her as she continues her own journey in faith. This podcast isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about asking questions, noticing themes, and discovering what faith might look like in everyday life. If you’re searching, curious, or simply looking for a few quiet minutes of reflection, you’re welcome to walk this journey too. In this episode of A Daughter’s Journey in Faith, I read my dad’s sermon “What’s My Line?” based on Jesus’ question to His disciples: “Who do you say that I am?”
Peter knows the answer. Jesus is the Christ. But moments later, Peter tries to tell Jesus how things should be—and receives a lesson about the difference between the things of God and the things of men.
My dad reminds u...
In A Hard Secret to Keep, my father wrestles with one of the more difficult encounters in the Gospel of Mark—the story of a Gentile woman who refuses to stop asking Jesus to help her daughter.
What emerges from that difficult passage is a message about the extraordinary reach of Christ’s compassion. As Dad says, “No one is left out of God’s kingdom. We are all welcome.”
His words lead me back into my o...
What happens when the traditions and outward signs of our faith become more important than faith itself?
In Our Law, His Law, my dad reflects on Jesus' confrontation with the Pharisees over something seemingly simple: washing hands before a meal. But beneath their disagreement was a much deeper question about what it truly means to be faithful.
My dad reminds us that faith is not found in rituals, appearances, buildings, traditions...
The Armor of God isn't just about protection—it's about how we choose to live.
In this episode of A Daughter's Journey in Faith, we explore Paul's powerful words in Ephesians 6 and my father's sermon, The Whole Armor of God. But instead of focusing only on the familiar pieces of armor, he reminds us what our real battle actually is.
Our greatest struggle isn't against people who disagree with us. It's against the forces that ...
What do we reach for when life hurts?
In this episode of A Daughter’s Journey in Faith, I read my father Rev. Dr. Kim Wilson’s sermon, “Filled with the Spirit, Filled with the Son,” originally preached August 19, 2012.
Reflecting on Paul’s words in Ephesians 5, Dad explores the difference between the things that offer temporary relief and the lasting joy that comes from being filled with the Holy Spiri...
Every day presents a new test—but thankfully, we don't take it alone.
How we respond when we're tired. How we speak when we're frustrated. How we treat people who are difficult to love. Those ordinary moments reveal more about our faith than we often realize.
In this week's episode of A Daughter's Journey in Faith, I read my father's sermon, "No Room at THIS Inn," based on Ephesians 4:25–5:2 and John 6. Using the image ...
What does it really mean to grow up in faith?
In this episode of A Daughter's Journey in Faith, I read and reflect on my father's sermon, "Growing Up in Every Way." Drawing from Ephesians 4 and Jesus' teaching about childlike faith, he challenges us to rethink what spiritual maturity looks like.
Christian maturity isn't about having all the answers. It's about becoming more humble, more patient, more loving, and more like Christ ea...
For weeks, I put off listening to this recording.
More than 30 years ago, my dad, Rev. Dr. Kim Wilson, took the stage to deliver an Hours of Power speech filled with humor, energy, stories, and the message he would spend his life living: get in the arena, don’t be afraid to fail, and make a difference.
I knew listening to his voice again would be emotional. I didn’t know what I would discover.
I heard my dad tell an aud...
More than thirty years ago, before he ever stepped into a pulpit, my father was invited to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to record an "Hour of Power" motivational speech for the United States Jaycees—an honor given to only a handful of speakers. His words challenged listeners to pursue excellence, discover their purpose, and recognize that true success is measured not by what we achieve, but by the difference we make in the lives of other...
Before my father became a pastor, he discovered another calling—encouraging people to lead, serve, and make a difference through the Jaycees. In this special bonus episode, I share the story of how that journey shaped the man behind the sermons and led to a remarkable opportunity: being chosen to record a nationally distributed "Hour of Power" speech in 1994. I also share why that recording sat untouched in my home for more t...
What if the strongest warrior in God's kingdom doesn't look strong at all?
In this episode of A Daughter's Journey in Faith, I read my father's sermon, "An Unlikely Warrior," first preached on August 27, 2006. Using Paul's words from Ephesians about the armor of God, he reminds us that our greatest strength has never been found in ourselves—it has always been found in Christ.
From a prison cell, Paul wrote about courage, trut...
What melody is playing in your heart?
In this episode of A Daughter’s Journey in Faith, I read and reflect on my father’s sermon, The Melody in Your Heart, originally preached in August 2006.
Drawing from Ephesians 5 and Psalm 111, this sermon explores wisdom, worship, prayer, and the struggle to keep our hearts focused on God instead of the noise of the world around us. My father reminds us that we can become “dr...
This week on A Daughter’s Journey in Faith, I read and reflect on my father’s sermon, “Hidden Gifts,” originally preached on August 6, 2006.
Using stories about forgotten Christmas presents and unopened gifts, my dad explores a powerful truth: God has given every one of us gifts, talents, and abilities meant to be shared — not hidden away.
In this episode, we reflect on what it means to be the body of ...
This week on A Daughter’s Journey in Faith, I read and reflect on my father’s sermon, “A Tale of Two Cities,” originally preached on July 5, 2009.
Through the contrast of Jerusalem and Nazareth, this sermon asks a difficult but important question: will we choose faith or unbelief? My father explores how God calls us into relationship, not by force, but through faith freely given.
In my reflections, I share m...
In this episode of A Daughter’s Journey in Faith, I reflect on my father’s sermon, “And They Laughed at Him,” originally preached on June 28, 2009, during the 4th Sunday after Pentecost.
Through the stories of Jairus’ daughter, the woman healed by faith, and the very public deaths of Ed Thomas, Farrah Fawcett, and Michael Jackson, this sermon wrestles with grief, fame, suffering, faith, and what it tru...
In this episode of A Daughter’s Journey in Faith, we explore the powerful and familiar story of Jesus calming the storm from Mark 4:35–41, alongside Psalm 9:9–20. Originally preached on June 21, 2009, in a sermon titled “Asleep at the Wheel,” this message reminds us that even in life’s most chaotic and frightening moments, we are never alone.
Through a vivid retelling of the disciples’ fear...
In this episode of A Daughter’s Journey in Faith, I read and reflect on my father’s sermon, “All By Itself,” originally preached on June 14, 2009.
Through Jesus’ parables about seeds and the Kingdom of God, this message reminds us that God is always at work — even when we cannot see it.
My father explores how faith grows quietly, how we are called to plant seeds of hope in others, and how the Kin...
In this episode of A Daughter’s Journey in Faith, I reflect on a powerful and deeply meaningful sermon my father preached for Trinity Sunday on June 7, 2009.
Through readings from Psalm 29 and John 3:1–17, we step into one of the most profound and often challenging mysteries of the Christian faith—the Trinity. How can God be both three and one? While the answer may never be fully explained in words, this sermon re...
In this Pentecost Sunday episode of A Daughter’s Journey in Faith, I read and reflect on my father’s sermon, “Will You Jeer or Testify.”
Grounded in Romans 8 and Acts 2, this message explores the deep groaning we experience in a broken world—and the powerful hope we are given through the Holy Spirit. Even when life feels overwhelming, when we don’t know what to pray or how to move forward, we are...
In this new season of A Daughter’s Journey in Faith, I continue the conversation with my father through one of his sermons, this episode was originally delivered on the Seventh Sunday of Easter, May 17, 2015.
We begin with Scripture readings from Ephesians 1:15–23 and Luke 24:44–53, reflecting on Christ’s ascension and His final instructions to the disciples. The sermon, “Repentance and Forgiveness,&rd...
