Welcome to another bonus episode, as we're almost ready to start our morning routine challenge.
This episode is all about creating an environment that will allow you to jump
right into your morning routine with ease and zero confusion.
This may seem unimportant, but believe me, when we're in the middle of creating
new habits and routines, every little bit of friction is the enemy.

Do you wake up with great intentions only to find your littles take up most of your time and energy?
Hey, I'm Carolyn, holistic health and essential oils nerd.
I too was a mama of little, I felt like my body would never be the same and
wish I could find time for myself.
I wanted the confidence and strength to fully enjoy life with my family,

(01:06):
but I kept telling myself I didn't have the time, energy, or discipline to prioritize my health.
That is until I took a holistic approach to mind, body, and spirit.
In this podcast, you will find spiritual encouragement, healthy lifestyle tips,
and quick self-care routines to build confidence in your body again.
If you're ready to see yourself the way God does and embrace your divine design,

(01:31):
go find that pile of laundry you've been avoiding, pop in those earbuds, and let's go.

(02:19):
I want to share today one of the most underrated rules for creating new habits
and working towards seamless routine flow.
You may think that the most important aspect of habit creation is discipline or motivation,
but you will find that even the most disciplined people will still end up dropping

(02:42):
the ball on new habits if they do not intentionally create the right environment for their new habit.
This simply means that you need to create the right context for when your habit is going to happen.
Just like you immediately start craving that delicious pastry the moment you

(03:02):
drive by your favorite bakery or your coffee craving sets in right about the
time you feel yourself becoming tired and anxious.
You can create the cue to crave your new built habit. it.
So your brain is wired to crave what you've already experienced as desirable.

(03:23):
And when we're exposed to a cue that causes us to anticipate that reward,
then you have that craving.
This is known as the dopamine feedback loop.
And that's why it's so important to pay attention to the different triggers
in your daily environments that are either cuing you to positive or negative habits and behaviors.

(03:49):
So for my morning routine, this has looked like making the corner of my bedroom
by my window my little space where I get sun, pray and meditate,
read, study, and journal.
And I make sure that I have everything I need for that routine easily accessible.
I don't want to have my morning routine scattered all over the house because

(04:12):
you know I will see something along the way that needs doing and will be completely
distracted and forget why I was even there.
Another way to create the best environment for your habit is to make it attractive
and remove any barriers to the ease of your habit.
And as moms, we have to be extra careful to keep our mom brain on track,

(04:36):
or we'll never make it back to what we set out to do.
So this can look like making a little corner of a room in your house,
a little nook where that's what you're going to do there.
And it may be somewhere where you decorate it or, you know, just make it fun
or fancy so that you're really drawn to that space,

(04:58):
like a nice set of pens and journal or a pretty diffuser with your favorite essential oil,
a nice organized space with your books or your Bible,
or maybe you don't have enough space to do that and you're going to want to
change the spot you spend your morning routine back and forth like I do sometimes

(05:19):
on my porch when it's nice out.
So you could also dedicate a cute bag for your mornings with all of your things
nice and organized inside.
So all you have to do is grab it and sit wherever you want.
Then you want to make sure you're getting rid of any distractions and barriers to your routine.

(05:42):
So first and foremost, I recommend leaving your phone phone somewhere else so
you're not tempted to pick it up and check your email or social media or whatever
it is that you like to do on your phone.
Also, if you are like me, I am very easily thrown off when people come into
the space where I'm trying to have quiet and meditative time.

(06:06):
And then I can be totally in the wrong state of mind for my morning routine.
And so then I feel I feel like I can't even do it. Like it just makes me so out of whack.
So it's really helpful to communicate with whoever you need to that you really
value this time and it's important for the rest of your day to be the best you

(06:28):
can be and ask them to not disturb you or help you not be disturbed by kids
or however that's going to look for you, if at all possible.
And then another thing to consider is having a small bite to eat ready to go,
especially if you're someone who you wake
up extremely hungry first thing in the morning and

(06:50):
you're going to be very distracted by your
gnawing hungry stomach so that
could mean just having some like a little bit of protein in
your coffee or whatever you drink in the morning just to help ease that hunger
and get some nutrition in you until you have a chance to eat more or you could

(07:10):
maybe make some little protein balls or something that you could have ready
to go that you could munch on first thing in the morning.
All right, so here's your challenge for today. Start thinking about the space
or environment you want to create for your morning routine to make it special, attractive.

(07:32):
And undistracted, uninterrupted time.
Don't forget to put it in your calendar and start preparing for our community
morning routine challenge starting September 1st.
