Dr. Michael Pravica is a distinguished professor of physics at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). He earned his Ph.D. in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics from Harvard University in 1998 and holds a B.Sc. in Physics and Applied Mathematics from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech).
Dr. Pravica's research focuses on the physics and chemistry of matter under extreme conditions, such as high pressure, temperature, and radiation. He has pioneered a new field of science called "useful hard x-ray induced chemistry," which utilizes the properties of hard x-rays to initiate novel and highly controlled chemical reactions. His work has been highlighted in various prestigious publications and he has received numerous awards for his contributions to science and education.
In addition to his research, Dr. Pravica is actively involved in teaching and mentoring students at UNLV. He has received several teaching awards, including the CSUN Student Government Faculty Excellence Award and the UNLV College of Sciences Distinguished Teaching Award.
Dr. Pravica's expertise spans a wide range of areas, including high-pressure science, Raman and infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance, and accelerator physics. He is also known for his innovative approach to doping wide bandgap semiconductors using ion beam nuclear transmutation doping (IBNTD).
