Alejandro Jodorowsky's The Holy Mountain (1973) is a surrealist masterpiece that explores themes of spirituality, materialism, and enlightenment. The film follows a Christ-like figure, known as "The Thief," who embarks on a journey guided by a mystical alchemist. Together, they are joined by seven wealthy and powerful individuals, each representing a planet in the solar system, as they seek the titular Holy Mountain to overthrow the gods and achieve immortality.
The film is renowned for its striking visuals, provocative symbolism, and unconventional narrative. It was produced with funding from John Lennon and Yoko Ono and premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 1973.
