Let me start with this. It's cold people. I am
a Texan. I love being in Texas. It's not that
we're not used to being cold. It's freaking gold as
we do this show, Baby bundle up. But I will
take it as a lifelong Texan. I will take this
over the one hundred degree one hundred percent humidity that
(01:09):
we generally get in July and August, certainly in the
Houston area. People, Oh my goodness, wherever you are listening,
I hope you're snuggled up by a fire. You're sitting
in your car with your heater blasting, with the steering
wheel heater on, with your seat heater on. And if
you do not have a vehicle like that, I can
(01:30):
steer you in the right direction because I will be reviewing,
as I usually do, a few new vehicles that I
have been playing with, and I'll tell you what I
normally don't use, the steering wheel heater or the bum
warmer as we call it. I usually use the air
conditioning seats, no sir, no ma'am. But not now. It
(01:52):
is all heat all the time, which is one of
the very few times we use it throughout here in
the state of Texas. Michael is the named Michael Garfield. Hello,
Happy weekend to everyone listening terrestrially Houston, KPRC nine, San Antonio,
WOAI twelve hundred in Dallas, Big d Mytt hometown actually
(02:16):
the Mighty Mighty eleven ninety. If you're listening online, we
do thank you for downloading the iHeartRadio app, absolutely free,
which you can listen to me or many many other
radio stations at your disposal online podcast you name it,
so that's how you are going to get to us.
I'll give you the phone number because last I checked,
(02:36):
it's an interactive talk show, since we're on so many
talk stations where you could try to get in at
talk to me, ask me questions. I'm just not here
to tell you news in the consumer world of lifestyle
and technology and reviews. You actually can ask me questions. Hey, Michael,
I'm in I'm in the shopping mow for this vehicle
or a new phone, or a TV or a TV service.
(03:00):
Should I cut the cord and cable? I'm happy to answer.
I'm not gonna bite. I'm the nice guy on the
radio three four six twenty nine Texan three four six
two nine T E X A N. Spell it out.
For some reason, we don't or not able to pick
you up because Callum, I don't know Callum. Sometimes you
do go to bed, Callum Reid. He is on the
(03:21):
other side of the glass picking up the phones. If
he feels like it, are you caffeinated up? Brother? You
feel like he's giving me kind of a you know,
come see, come say. If he doesn't pick up the phone,
it may be picked up by voicemail. Feel free to
leave us a voicemail. You do give us the right
to replay your voicemail on this radio program, and we'll
try to get to as many questions and answers as
(03:42):
we can today on the show. We're gonna listen. I'm
I am the ultimate consumer. I love shopping, I love
watching TV, listen to radio, and I got my thoughts
on one of my favorite shows of all time, of
all my life, this SNL fifty. Anybody wants to be
fiftieth anniversary of Saturday Night Live. I've got thoughts on that.
I've been inundated the past month of going back and
(04:05):
looking at some of the new videos, the memories, the
original audition tapes. I saw the fiftieth anniversary show last Sunday, which,
by the way, was the end was cut off in Houston.
Appreciate that KPRC click to Houston, but we're not going
there really Friday Night, which I thought was a better show,
the three and a half hour history of all the
(04:27):
musical guests. That was a phenomenal at the Radio City Musical.
I'll give you my thoughts about that. Other news. If
you happen to use iPhones, which I don't, I'm an
Android guy iPhone. Apple just announced a new little tiny
addition to its family, the sixteen E smaller version that
(04:49):
is launching here in about a week or two. I've
been playing with a new watch, and if you want
a smart watch, there's so many to choose from. I
will say this, I've probably one of if not my
favorite watch I've I've ever used that. I've been a
big fan of this company, and I'm gonna tease it
right here. I've been a big fan of this company.
This is the third version, maybe the fourth version of
(05:11):
their watch I was I've been playing with for three weeks.
Wasn't allowed to talk about it until just a few
days ago because the embargo did not lift. The embargo
is now officially lifted, and I am set to go
and talk about it. So if you're interested in maybe
getting a new watch, I am your guy, So don't
(05:33):
go anywhere. Eight three to two pack two. It's three
four six twenty nine te x A N and well,
real quickly, let's just kind of start with this. Who
if you got thoughts on the Saturday Night Live special?
Did you even watch it? And and I don't want
one call that says Saturday Night Live is no longer funny.
I haven't watched it since way back in the day.
(05:55):
With all due respect, shut up, everybody's got to listen.
I'm not an Apple fan, okay, I'm you may not
be a fan of the stuff I talk about. I
grew up. It is the reason I love pop culture.
The reason I kind of try to be hip hop
happening and what's going on, to keep up with what
the kids are listening to. I watch it. Some of
it's funny. Some of it may not be funny. There's
(06:16):
headed miskits. But I'm a longtime fan. It has launched
the careers of so many movie stars and comedians and musicians,
and I've been waiting for the fiftieth anniversary for well
over a year. I remember watching the fortieth anniversary. I
was a little kid when I really when I watched
the very first season. Yes, I was a very young kid.
I have grown up with it, and it seems like
(06:37):
it's going to be here for a while. I gotta
tell you this, though, I was a little disappointed in
the fiftieth the fiftieth edition on Sunday. Too many listen.
It's tough to cram every single superstar, every single not
ready for primetime player who has ever been on the
show in a three and a half hour show. I
(06:57):
get it, and they did. To me, they did too
many new skits. I would have liked to see more
memories more. It's just I didn't like the lay of
the land. They were just they were trying to do
a little too much. I also I was wondering what
they must have had three or four musical acts. They
(07:18):
started with Paul Simon and Sabrina Carpenter for the cold open.
I mean, this is Saturday Night Live. They are famous
for the cold open. The cold open is when Central
Time ten thirty, you hear some audience applause and you
gotta skit. Sometimes it's the presidential impersonation. Sometimes it's somethin
you don't cold open with a musical guest, and one
(07:40):
of which is listen. I understand why Paul Simon was there.
He is Lorde Michael's best friends. He was on the
second edition ever of Saturday Night Live. He's been an icon,
that dude. It's just a little out of touch, little
old and Sabrina Carpenter man, her agent is fine. I
need her agent. She was everywhere on the Saturday Night
Live Musical Special, the after party and everything. It just
(08:02):
didn't work, and it cut into the three or four
musical guests. It cut into a good twenty minutes of
airtime where they could have had more, you know, sketches, skits, memories,
you know from the past shows. It just it just
didn't fly. It didn't work. Then it ran a little
longer than ten o'clock Central, and again, I'm in the
(08:22):
Central time zone here as all of my terrestrial radio
stations are listening right now. The Houston affiliate apparently they
had an automated switcher that was supposed to continue to
switch off at ten point fifteen. Well, guess what, it
switched off in the Houston affiliate. So the Houston Eustonians
never got to see Paul McCartney doing his live finale,
(08:42):
which to me, I'm not a big Paul McCartney fan,
and win that big of a deal and the cast
goodbyes and whatever. It just it wasn't there. What was great?
And here's what I want you to do. If you
have Peacock or did because Peacock is obviously it's NBC,
it's Comcast. Go see the Friday before it was the
Radio City Music Hall Special. Jimmy Fallon hosted it. It
(09:03):
was three and a half hours of unbelievable. Listen. If
you're a Grammy fan, you know how Grammy sometimes have
musicians and oh, by the way, we'll stop to make awards.
This was better than any Grammy show, any musical show
I've ever seen. It was packed with phenomenal musical guests,
and they mixed in the comedy skits just right. They
(09:24):
had Marty Cope and Bobby Mohan, Cope, Will Farrell, Anagast Dyer.
They did an Andy Samberg tribute with Lady Gaga top
to bottom. That should have been what the Sunday Edition
should have over the year versus SNL fifty. It was
great that musical special. All right, we're gonna take a break.
Thoughts on this, feel free to feel free to x
(09:44):
me or Instagram or the high tech text and spell
the whole thing out high tech t e X A M.
When we come back, talk a little about iPhones. Got
a cheaper one coming out, and I will tell you
what watch I've been using, because I am really pumped
about that. Got some car reviews. Anything goes here for
the next time forty five I go by a field.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
It's called the Catch and Show.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
I said, I'm harping on the weather again. There's nothing
you could do about it. People, hope you're bundled up
as you continue to enjoy this weekend. One of the
final few weekends in February of twenty twenty five. Oh,
it's almost the end of February. I think the year
is going by so fast. Shut up the days. Last
I counted, there's still twenty four hours in a day,
and it's just what it is. Uh, give you the phone,
(10:59):
numb here, anybody callum Red anybody? Yeah, there's some people.
I got news and stuff to talk about. So we'll
try to get to the phone calls. If not, leave
a voicemail and we will play it and answer your
phone calls. Three four six twenty nine Texan. You can
find me online high Tech Texan dot com. You spell
(11:20):
the whole thing out where. You can find me on
ex Twitter, you could find me on Instagram, high Tech
Texan and Blue Sky too. You know what I don't
not then I want to get into it. You know,
I download a Blue Sky like everybody did. Nomember got
to tell you, I really haven't used Blue Sky too much.
Anybody is anybody? I mean, Oh, we're never gonna go
on ex again. Blue Sky is at I don't know.
(11:43):
I just I'll do threads once in a while, but
uh not a Blue Sky Folks. If you guys love it,
you're finding some positives. I want to hear from you.
Remember interact. We're in this together, people. I've been doing
this for twenty three years on the radio. Man, I
want to hear from your people. So so let me know.
If you have been listening for twenty three years, you
(12:04):
know I try to cover the consumer product and the
technology and the automobile world just to give you in
my and it's an avice show. I mean, I'm not
gonna tell you really how to fix anything. I'm gonna
tell you what products to buy instead of your product
that's broken, and I'm gonna trying to save you some money.
But if you're a long time listening, you know I
(12:25):
don't talk a lot about Apple. It's just I'm not
the biggest Apple guy. And for all of you thinking,
oh my good news. The high tech duction doesn't talk
about iPhones and apples, why should I listen to them, Well,
number one, you don't need to listen to me, way bait,
I'm kidding. I don't go away. But number two, take
(12:45):
it for me. Android phones, if you want to go phones,
they are much more prevalent in the world than iPhones.
It's a fact, it's not it's Google the whole thing.
Use your AI, your chatbot to find out sixty five
seventy five eighty percent. I don't know if it's that high.
(13:07):
Right now, of the phones around the world use Android
versus the iOS operating system. It's quite simply because there
is only one phone, one hardware piece of hardware that
uses iOS, and it's called the iPhone. But think of
how many manufacturers there are who make Android phones. It
goes on and on. There's Samsung, there's one Plus, there's Motorola,
(13:30):
there's Google, Pixel I got LG out there making phones
anywhere you see. So there's physically more phones, physical hardware
phones where Google or Alphabet the company they license the
Android for free. And so point is I want to
talk to the masses, so I really use an Android phone.
(13:51):
I generally have three four phones at any given time
right now that i'm playing with. Right now, I'm still
playing with the Samsung Galaxy S twenty Ultra, which I
like a lot. I the camera's strong, it's it's big
enough that you know, I could sit there and I
can edit all my videos and number of different things.
(14:11):
It's it's it's really good. That's the that's the phone
of the day, it'st of the month. I haven't used
an iPhone since I had the I've had iPhone number one.
I was the very first person to buy I bought it.
Apple didn't give jack to anybody bought it in Houston.
Uh what was that? That was June thirtieth, two thousand
(14:34):
and seven, And I don't think I've used one since.
I just I just don't. Well, guess what I'm gonna
give you a little. The point is, I'm gonna give
you a little Apple news. I don't talk about Apple.
Apple just launched a new phone. It is the iPhone
sixteen E, not the S very first time they've changed
(14:55):
the nomenclature. SE used to be the special ADDENTI addition.
Now it's just E. I guess I don't know what
it is. It's their quote unquote newest member of the family.
That's what Tim Cook said. It's actually the fourth edition
of the of their budget friendly line of iPhones. Now,
the iPhone sixteen and E. It's gonna be a little
bit larger. It's gonna have face ID, it is not
(15:19):
going to have a home button Gone Ova, that's gone Zoe.
It's gonna have a USBC charging port. I do like that,
and we'll have a forty eight megapixel camera lens. All right,
But to me, as I was just kind of seeing
some of the headlines this new smartphone, it's going to debuts,
debut Apple's very first cellular modem. Apple has its own
(15:41):
cell modem, and I think they paid Qualcom billions of
dollars for this, and if it works, this could be
a game changer. So it is available right now for
pre order. It hits stores February twenty eighth. They're gonna
have colors in Matt black and Matt white. They're gonna
have of cases and different colors WHIPTI de I like
(16:04):
the price though, the sixteen e is going to be
six hundred dollars. This is according to Apple's news release, okay,
and they're going to have a trade in policy. I
think you can get up to one hundred and twenty
dollars in credit when you traded an iPhone eleven or up.
The difference. Let me explain this, the difference between an
iPhone and the iPhone se. Now, Apple released the very
(16:26):
first generation of the iPhone S Special Edition. It was
twenty sixteen, so we got about nine years ago, and
it was the budget friendly series and those tend to
be a bit behind the regular iPhone in terms of
new features, but the cost difference is significant. They are
much cheaper. Let me give you a comparison. The new
(16:48):
iPhone sixteen with the lowest amount of storage right now,
it's eight hundred dollars. Compare with this new iPhone sixteen
E six hundred dollars. So there's you a little different
this one, this new sixteen E. It's gonna be the
very first product to feature Apple's very first cellular modem
and is designed to deliver five G connectivity. It's called
(17:11):
the Apple C one. Not that you need to know
or care because it's just a cell mode, but whatever.
This is gonna have a six point one inch o
LED organic light emitting diode. So no more LCD screen,
peace out, no more LCD screen. It's gonna feature an
all display design with a notch up top, which is
(17:34):
that small black area at the top of the screen
that has the front camera, and it's gonna have a
top speaker. It's gonna have face ID, and it's not
gonna have a touch ID anymore. Nope. So users who
used to unlock their phones with a fingerprint, Nope, ain't
gonna work. You're gonna have to smile, give you that
pretty put them where's that pretty face? Baby? So it's
(17:55):
gonna have apples face i D face recognition camera. As
I'm reading and thinking about it, seems it's gonna have
one rear camera, only one, which is very interesting because
most every phone you see has got at least two lenses,
if not three, if not four, like by Samsung S
(18:16):
twenty five Ultra right now. Now, it is upgraded to
forty eight megapixels compared to the twelve megapixel which was
on the iPhone se three back in the day. And
you're gonna be able to capture videos, four K videos
up to sixty frames per second, spatial audio and and
everything there. Allegedly is gonna be a new exterior action
(18:37):
button on the side of this iPhone sixteen E. It's
gonna let users access some tools with a click. It's customizable, customizable.
It's also gonnat know voice memos, you know, translate and
all that other fun things. It's gonna use a USBC
Welcome to the Freakin Family instead of the old lightning
port And I love that. And that's because this and
(18:57):
that's nothing new, because the Apple went this way a
few years ago because of the European Union legislation trying
to cut down on the different waste. Why do we
need so many pieces of plastics, so many different chargers,
and so the one common charger is that USBC, which
you're seeing more and more and built into two cars
and whatever. I like that. It's gonna have Apple Intelligence
(19:17):
feature and things like that. Will I get one? Absolutely not.
Apple doesn't know I exist. I don't talk about Apple.
You want to call in and love it, bring it on,
You want to call it and ragging it, bring it on?
But there you go. I felt it kind of my
duty since I never talked about it to let you
know that the sixteen E is coming out? Whooped you do?
(19:38):
Last time? I'll mentioned uh Am I gonna mention. I
am gonna Apple. I am gonna mention Apple one more time.
I'm not gonna mention the iPhone. Nope, doesn't happen that way.
Phone number here three four six twenty nine. Text. And
when we come back, time for me to talk about
a watch, a new watch that would just hit the market.
It is an Android watch, but it does a ton
of things. And I am having a ball with I'm
(20:00):
going right here.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
I can do some show.
Speaker 3 (20:20):
Bottom of our number one of the two hours we
view this show, Michael Garfield. If we're tight, you can
just use my nickname Garf g A r F first
four letters of my last name, which is Garfield. But
doing this well over two decades, and I do thank
you for tuning in over the year. Houston, Dallas and
San Antonio. If you're listening on the Apple Apple, No
(20:40):
we're not. We're not talking about it. Actually, I think
I am on Apple iTunes, by the way, but the
iHeartRadio app is actually the way to go. You can
listen and stream it live. Got some sad news though,
got a press release this is not good Dairy Queen
and I love me some Dairy Queen. Greatest dessert ever
made the Blizzard. It's closing some stores in Texas. Man,
(21:03):
did you see this? Two dozen Dairy Queen restaurants across
our great state closing, five of them in the Greater
Houston area. What's that, Matt? How do you close the
Dairy Queen? I mean it's it's it's that's fixture. You know,
people like Oh Waterburger is not really a Texas based
(21:25):
you know, Jane, and I don't even know if dairy
queen actually who didn't weren't buffet on some of dry queens,
but up and down the highways and byways when I
was growing up, you know, rolling to see my grandparents
from Dallas to Austin and you stopping Waco. We always
stop right there across from you know, Baylor. And then
my parents used to get me the blizzards, dude, and
(21:45):
the chocolate peanut butter blizzers. The Reese's blizzard is the
greatest thing. How do you close them? Freaking dairy queen? Man,
I'm sitting shiva. That is not good. There's so many.
Here's where it's They're all over the There's North Hillsboro, Gone Flew, Gone, Longview,
gone here and there. Sorry to hear that. In an
(22:06):
interesting related story, the next day, I get another press
release from the dairy queen folks that they just rolled
out the flavor of the month for I guess upcoming
from March in just in time for Saint Patty's Day.
The mint Oreo Blizzard is coming back. I'll put this
up for debate now. I'm gonna continue the show here
in a second, pound for pound is there a better
(22:29):
ice cream based dessert ever created. No, no, man, And
I'm serious about that. I don't eat a lot of
ice cream anymore because you know, I just you know,
I'm very calorie conscience or whatever. But if I'm going
to splurge, I mean, you just gotta go blizzard that
it may I mean, this may go out of the
category of ice cream based dessert. This may be the
(22:51):
greatest dessert and technically we may even get out of
the dessert category. This may be one of the greatest
foods ever inventted. It's just it's just awesome. And I
don't care how cold it is right now in Texas.
Wo's bruising. There is a blizzard out there. I don't care. Man,
If you want some calories, that's the way to go.
(23:11):
They bet you easy up, man, I say, this is
not an endorsement. I wish I wish DQ would sponsor
this show. But go to visit dairy Queen. Man. I
don't want any more to close either. Here in the door.
Oh next hour, by the way, we are going to
talk about food. The annual World Championship Barbecue Contest kicks
(23:34):
off and ends next week. Arguably the three most fun
days and nights in any giving calendar year in Houston,
we'll have an interview with the chairman of the World
Championship Barbecue Contest. I am an official judge, which is
like fighting tooth and nail to get on this because
you know, I judge a lot of food contest. Oh,
we're gonna have a celebrity which it's funny they called
(23:55):
me celebrity. I'm in the media, whatever. But I judge
a lot of food contest here and there. But to
get on the World Championship Barbecue Contest, I mean it is.
Once you're on this committee, you do not want to
give it up. And I am next week, in about
a week, for the next weekend exactly, I will be up.
Wave my gut. It is gonna be filled with some
World Championship barbecue. And I don't even need a lot
(24:16):
of red meat. Baby. This is the one time I
must stuff my face with barbecue. You know what would
be good with that? Washing it down with a blizzard.
I continue the High Tech that Killed four minutes of Time,
the high Tech text and show. Speaking of time, I
have been playing with a new watch. I get gadgets
and products all the time and when it comes to
smart watches. It's one of the bigger questions that I
(24:39):
get from my listeners and viewers. And you know, what
smart watch do you have? And you know, is there
one that is in you know, cheaper than the other.
Is this going to not only tell the time, but
tell me my heart right? And how many steps I'm
going to take? Is it going to help me lose weight?
And what's my heart rate beats per minute? Smart watches
can do more and more. And I have heard story
(25:00):
and maybe you have too, how smart watches have saved lives,
and I believe it they can save lives. I mean,
they can detect what your heart rate is, they can
detect what your what your SPO two is, what your
blood oxygen level. They could do a number of different things.
They actually have an accelerometer built in, so all of
a sudden, if it'll notice several manufacturers, if you fall
(25:24):
all of a sudden, it can immediately and automatically call somebody.
If you're in a wreck and you're driving, and you know,
the accelerometer knows it's going forty fifty miles an hour
and all of a sudden it comes to a stop
a stop, it might assume that you just got an accident.
It could it? Could you know? Call you know nine
to one one. There's a number of great things that
watches can do. Yes, Apple makes them, Samsung makes some,
(25:49):
fit Bit makes them. I mean, we goes on and
on and on. But over the past several years, I
have been very pleased with a manufacturer that I mentioned
here and there that not only makes watches, but it
makes phones. It's called one plus now it's a Chinese
manufactured phone and watch. But I have been playing with
the one plus Watch three, their latest version, and I've
(26:11):
had it for two or three weeks, and I was
sworn to secrecy. I just signed an embargo. I couldn't
talk about it. But it just opened for pre orders,
and I believe it is going to be able to
be They're going to start shipping this here the next
week or so. And I thought the one plus Watch
two was cool. I love this and I love it
(26:32):
for many reasons. Number one, one plus is going for
the battery life. It's one of the things when it
comes to smart watch, is my gosh, I gotta charge
this thing. But if I wear it all the time,
I got to take it off my wrist. If I travel,
I'm going to have to bring the charger. It's not this,
These things aren't big of a deal. But what they
are promising, and again I'm gonna read this of quote
(26:53):
because I got the press release over here. What they're
promising when it comes to battery life, this bad boy
has got an incredibly strong battery based on a number
of different things that they are I'm not gonna say promising,
but it could last up to three days in heavy
use mode, up to five days in smart mode, and
(27:18):
an impressive according to the press relief, sixteen days in
power saving mode. Now, I never let it go to
power saving mode because I pretty much charge it every
other you know, three or four days. But in the
past few weeks that I've been using it, it just
very slowly trickles the battery and when I tell you,
when I plug it into my charger, this thing fires up.
(27:39):
It will charge in a snap. That alone is standout
and I like it. It is an Android based smart watch.
To utilize it perfectly and properly, you do need an
Android based phone. But it does everything from receiving texts,
responding to text email notifications. It's got a GPS so
(28:02):
I can track all my runs when I'm outdoors. You
sync it up with the oh Health app, which is
their app. Some of the fun things that I've used
when I'm running with the GPS that it tracks exactly.
Say I'm on a five mile run, which I've done
so a few times. It'll actually overlay the progress. After
(28:25):
I'm done, it will show an actual map, a Google map.
It will follow where I am running. It animates it
along with how fast or how slow this mile was,
this mile was, this mile was, and it just paints
a beautiful picture, incredibly impressive. The look of it is
(28:50):
big because it's bigger than normal, and I like big watches.
Number One, I'm a dude. Number one, I'm a six
foot tall dude, so I'm you know, I'm a little
bit maybe taller, a little bigger than typical other dudes
that I'm hary too. But that's not gonna get even
though my name is Michael. But the bezel is larger
and right now, watches to me are pieces of jewelry
(29:15):
and I want to be pimping and I don't have
a ton of watches, and I have a beautiful Rolex.
Thank you very much. By the way US coins and
jewelry here in Houston. But this is a fun one.
And this bezel, it's a giant circle one and a
half inch display and it comes in I believe, two
different straps colors. One is the black on which I have,
(29:35):
and one is kind of a military gray green rubber straps.
Very comfy to wear day or night. You can get it,
you know, splash proof and resistant if you want. But
one of the first features I've noticed on the top
right instead of side buttons, it's got a crown. It's
a rotating crown, easy to grip titanium bezel around the
(29:57):
screen and as you rotate the bezel go through the
different features from this screen to this screen to this green.
It's really unique. And I haven't seen a bezel or
this crown. You know, a crown is like you know
generally how you whine the watch. But it's there too.
This has cardiovask your health. I mean there OnePlus is
leaning into the health. You can manage your you can
(30:18):
do your SPO. Two your wrist temperature, pretty much your
general well being. Now, these features they're not FDA approved,
I mean, so they're really not used to be a
medical grade data, but they are there. I believe they're
going to have an ECG. It's not available yet in
the US or Canada. If you're listening in Canada, it's
(30:39):
not a sixty second health check in. And I use
this feature once or twice checks all your vitals in
Like in one spot. You press your finger on the
watch's bottom button and it measures and displays things that
if a red exclamation part you know, pops up and
it's gonna say abnormal, I've done my sleep habits, fitness
(31:00):
is always there, foot balance and whatever. It's It's great.
I like this a lot. Official release date February twenty fifth,
Free order right now. It's called the one plus Watch three.
The let me give you the price over here, there's
a price US and price Canadian. Let me make sure
I get this thing right. Three hundred and thirty dollars
(31:22):
US in Canada if you're using Canadian money, it's four
hundred and fifty dollars. But here in the US it's
three hundred and thirty dollars. One of the more impressive
watches I have used in a while, the one plus three.
For some reason, you're out and about, you see me
the barbecue cook off the Rodeo odds are we're gonna
wear it? Come up, say hi, I'll show it to you.
Good features. All right, final break of this hour. Open
(31:45):
phone lines left to hear from you. You know the
phone number because I've only you know, mention it twenty times.
If not want to be a one one time three
four six, it's the High Tech Texting Show. I've got
(32:19):
got some emails here from the High Tech text and Show.
It is Michael. Thank you so much for tuning in
comments on Dairy Queen closing some stores in Texas. Just
see I cover everything, man, it just doesn't matter, Michaels. Listen,
I ain't just talking about computers and things that beep
and buzz no, no, man, I talk about quality of
a live DQ. If you missed the news, they're closing
(32:40):
some stores across Texas, like twenty four twenty five of
them over there. So boy just emailed me here, Hey Garth,
speaking of food and fast food. Did you hear that
KFC is moving its headquarters to Texas? I did? I did.
Can you believe that? If you didn't hear that, let
me give you this up to Kentucky. It's actually not
(33:02):
Kentucky Fried Chicken. It's officially KFC. KFC is leaving its
ancestral home in Kentucky and they're moving to Plano, Texas,
which is just north of Dallas. Man, what is up?
I mean, finally people are realizing, you know that Texas
life could be nice. No state income tax may I
(33:23):
don't know the planoes headquarters of a number of different companies.
One hundred corporate employees are gonna be relocated. It's KFC
is it has a parent company, it's called yom Brands,
and they also own Taco Bell and Pizza Hut, among
a few others. Any thoughts about this? Any thought good
or bad? Does it matter? Three four six twenty nine
(33:46):
texts I'm reading I heard the story and thanks that
Brian had sent me that. Thank you very much. I'm
reading this and I'm thinking, I do not know the
last time I've ever eaten at KFC. And it's just
if you know me, you know I'm not a big
fast food guy, and certainly not a big fried food guy.
Try to be as healthy as possible. I grew up
(34:09):
when I was growing up in Dallas and my parents,
which maybe they may be listening right now, in the
Mighty Mighty eleven ninety Hello Susan and Larry Garfield. We
they used to bring in the bucket of chicken, finger
licking good eleven herbs and spices on a semi regular basis.
(34:29):
There used to be a KFC and for all you
listening in Dallas right now, Forest Lane, right near Marsh
it was like fast food headquarters, but there was a
KFC and they would bring it in. It was a
treat and you know, I like you. I liked the
white meat, so you know, it was the breast of chicken.
I didn't care about the drumsticks or anything. But then again,
we would miss in church churches fried Chicken. That was
(34:50):
near Webs Chapel and also Forest Lane that was before
Popeyes really came to Dallas and came to town. I
just I don't remember the last time I had KFC.
And I'm not ragging on KFC. I I guess it's
fine right now, but it's I've seen it all over
the world. I was in South Korea two years ago
(35:10):
and I'm in a shopping mall and they're freaking KFC.
I was in London last summer and here was like,
there's a statue of the of Colonel Sanders leading into
a KFC right by the tower bridge. I mean they're everywhere.
They got twenty four thousand KFC outlets and the world headquarters.
(35:31):
They're gonna be in our great state of Texas. Welcome, Welcome.
So I hope it does well either here nor there.
But I saw that. Say, I talk about food a lot,
so Texas is gaining the headquarters of KFC but losing
twenty four to twenty five dairy Queen's. I mean, I
guess I could take that. I don't know. You're gonna
(35:55):
have Callum Reid over here. You're gonna have fright favorite
fried chicken. Where's your fried chicken? I do like fried chicken.
I will have fried chicken once a year, once a year,
and I generally have it on January first. I don't know,
it's kind of like a stupid tradition of mine. I'm
generally watching some football game and I go out and
I'm gonna get fried chicken. Favorite fried chicken. I like Popeyes.
I like a two piece and a biscuit. Man gotta
(36:17):
have the two breasts. I want it extra spicy. That
biscuit is good. Yeah, I'm talking chains, and I know
there's like local chains over here. Open phone line three
four six twenty nine. Text and if you want to
bring in your favorite fried chicken, we certainly can't, absolutely
certainly can't. What else do we got? Do I have time? Yeah,
I guess I have time over here. I'm a big
(36:38):
car guy, and a lot of you over the years
have gotten a lot of vehicle news, automobile vehicle news
through me. I'm a member of the Texas Auto Writers Association,
and so I get to test drive a number, actually
an ungodly number of vehicles. Over fifteen years, I have
test driven over one thousand cars and trucks and EV's
and sports cars and minivans and whatever. And so if
(37:00):
you were in the mode to purchase, this is not sponsored.
This is I just get them and I tell you
how bad they are, but I tell you how good
they are, and they good they can be. If you
go to Spotify, I think Spotify and search for high
Tech Texan, that's specifically my automobile review, you know. January six, seven,
(37:20):
eight minutes. I'm gonna give you the good, the bad,
the ugly, whatever whatever you need. So I do cover
the industry. This past week, I was writing and rolling
around in two different vehicles. I was in at Toyota Crown.
Raise your hand if you've ever heard of, much less
seen a Toyota Crown. It is a four door Sedan,
(37:41):
which is surprisingly a very good car. You don't see
a lot of sedan's. Everything is CUV SUV. It is
a Toyota Crown. I like it. Good pick up. We'll
talk about that. And I also was in a Kia
K four, a Kiak four. If you watch the NBA
Slam Dunk Fiasco whatever that was last week last Saturday,
(38:04):
the ultimate winner of the Slam Matt McClung. Remember he
did a dunk over a Kiak five. I don't have
the K five yet, but this is the Kyak four,
also a four door Sedan. So this is Sedan week
of the High Tech Textan Show. I'm gonna talk about
a little. I'm gonna give you those reviews next hour.
But more important, I'm gonna talk a little about EV news,
(38:25):
because I still get is this a good time to
get an EV. It's up to you if you feel
like charging your car and whatever. But bad news in
the world of EV's people, because uh, there's an ev company.
They just went belly up. It is Ova, it is Gonzo,
and if you haven't heard about it, there is a
(38:45):
car manufactured called Cold that's past. It's Nicola n I
K O l A. Which I believe is Nicola Tesla's
first name back of the day. I don't know. Every
time I see this word, I go Nicola, just like
the throat engined. This was an electric vehicle company and
it was very hyped up because they have electric had
(39:07):
sorry you got to use the past tense electric and
hydrogen powered semi trucks. They filed for Chapter eleven bankruptcy
this week. Pretty big fall from Grace, Pretty big fall
from Grace. They had a lot of fundamental problems. From
what I understand, this company lost hundreds of thousands of
dollars on every single vehicle it sold. Did you hear
(39:30):
what I just said? Now, listen, I maybe not the
smartest and best business man out there, but if you're
losing hundreds of thousands of dollars on every single product
that you make, probably not at the best business model.
Probably not. A few years ago had to recall all
of its vehicles because they had a series of fire
incidents with his electric trucks, and Nikola now joins a
(39:54):
number of different other EV makers that just is gone out, Gonezo,
bye bye. Remember Fisker Auto Motive Nope, something called Electric
Last Mile Solutions, Gonzo, Lordstown Motors, Nope. They all went
bankrupt over the past few years. Done. I mean, the
electric vehicle environment, it's tough, and it's it's really tough nowadays.
(40:19):
High cost, there's not as much demand as there used
to be. Our weak charging infrastructure, which is the single
reason why I don't recommend or I personally will not
buy an EV because the weak charging infrastructure that we
have here in the United States. You got our classic
(40:40):
automakers GM for Volvo, they've pulled back on EV promises,
and now there's another one that goes away. I'm not
talking you out of getting EV. I'm just the consumer
guy who is here to give you the news to
make you think. I drive and test drive evs on
the up. I think they are sexy vehicles. I think
(41:03):
they are very fast.
Speaker 4 (41:04):
D you think there is a place for the vehicles,
certainly when it comes to the commercial side.
Speaker 3 (41:10):
Of living in businesses versus potentially even better than the
consumer side. I mean, look, at all the the delivery
trucks from Amazon or whatever. If you're electric you're everywhere.
I mean, that's less missions and whatever. Okay, that's cool.
But another one advice to us. I don't know what this,
what this is gonna happen, but I I just want
to give you that should you have questions about what
you should I buy, you feel free to go to
(41:31):
Spotify just Pop for high tech texting. You'll get to
years and years of my past reviews when it comes
to Field and so with that, we're gonna take them
right top of the hour. You have one more hour
to go. We're gonna talk about the World Championship Party
two contests coming to Houston next week. We're also gonna
talk about how YouTube TV has raised its prices and
if you're sick of it, you're gonna go to the
other options. I think you're TV right here. I'm a
(41:53):
high tech taxi show.
Speaker 1 (42:08):
Is Michael garfil Michael Garfield.
Speaker 2 (42:10):
Michael Garfield's joining in the high tech Texan. Michael Garfield
is here with a high tech Texans. I have to
make life easier.
Speaker 3 (42:18):
New technology, and Michael Garfield has something you might like.
Speaker 1 (42:28):
Michael Garfield is your high Tech Texans three decades helping
you make magic with your gadgets. Heard worldwide on the
iHeartRadio add Now You're high Tech Texan. Michael Garfield.
Speaker 3 (42:50):
Start of hour number two of our second hour, which
means we are a half way to Happy Hour foks.
We're a halfway through the High Tech Texans Show. I
appreciate you tuning in whatever time you are listening. If
you're not listening, plausibly live on one of our great
radio stations we work with across the state of Texas
KPRC nine fifty a M in Houston, News Radio, twelve
(43:11):
one hundred WAI and San Antonio, and eleven ninety Talk
Radio in Dallas. You can listen to us on the
iHeartRadio app streaming. It doesn't matter. We're out there somewhere.
You can go to Spotify. You can get some of
my reviews, especially of my vehicles. If you just finished
(43:31):
listening to hour number one and I was talking about
some automobile news, because I tech automobiles without a doubt.
It's all technology right now. And I learned that probably
fifteen years ago. And I have been a longtime member
of the Texas Auto Writers Association I know most all
of the manufacturers. I'm in a program where I get
(43:52):
to test drive on a weekly basis I relatively newly
released vehicles, sometimes before it hits the public. This is
not a paid spot. This is they just give it
to me for review, and I can tell you how
crappy it is, and I can tell you how lovely
it is. And so this hour, I am going to
talk about two vehicles that I was in this past week,
one of which is the Toyota Crown, and I bet
(44:13):
a majority of my listeners right now I have never
even heard of the Toyota Crown. It is a four
door sedan that Toyota has, and I'm actually pretty impressed
with this thing. I also was in a Kiak four,
which is another sedan, so it's the sedan Michaels show
this past week. Both of them are pretty good and
the price is actually not too bad, especially the Kyak four.
If you're really on a budget, I definitely want you
(44:37):
to look at the key OFK four. So I will
talk about that here and there. Talking about EV's also,
I mentioned that the company called Nko lach in Ikola.
Speaker 2 (44:47):
It was.
Speaker 3 (44:49):
I'm using the past tense filed for bankruptcy. That's another
EV company that has gone belly up, that has filed
for bankruptcy. But there are maybe some good news for
in the other EV world. Hyundai. Anybody owned a Hyundai EV?
Anybody even know that Hyundai makes evs like the Ionic?
(45:12):
What are they on the Onic five? Right now? There
are Hyundais.
Speaker 5 (45:16):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (45:18):
I'm gonna talk about the charging infrastrut They actually have
some really good and I applaud Yundai for this one
for EV owners because my prompt mind, man, do I
say it's a problem. My issue with EV's not so
much evs, it's our infrastructure of charging. Charging these evs,
it's few and far between. They sometimes have a two
(45:42):
hundred and fifty three hundred mile range. Great, but if
you're going from Dallas to Houston in OZ, I'm gonna
have to stop and charge this thing. And I gotta
find a charger that works and isn't going to work
because there's a lot of Tesla super charging stations out there. Well,
that's great if you have a Tesla, but if you
don't have a Tesla, that charger is not gonna fit
your vehicle. You're gonna need an adapter. Well, guess what, Hyundai,
(46:08):
they just announced it's the first manufacturer to sell electric
vehicles with native and what's called n A cs ports.
It's a charging port other than Tesla. And they are
going to let you Hunday owners get in eligible adapter
(46:33):
to charge your Hyundai into Tesla chargers. And I try
not to confuse you. I don't want to give the acronyms
of nacs and ccs one. I'm just gonna I'm not
gonna do that. There's Tesla and all the others. See,
I make it simple now, Hyundai, it wasn't the first
manufacturer to ink deal with Tesla to gain access to
the supercharger network. Ford and GM and Rivan, you know
(46:56):
they're swapping the Tesla style charging ports over here. But
starting next month, Hyundai apparently they are going to be
giving away free as in free beer. If you have
a vin Vin number, they will send you an adapter
(47:16):
and you can order it on the website. How generous
are these people these adapters? See I was in an
issue like this. I had a it was a Cheavy,
it was an electric was it an Equinox? Maybe about
two months ago, three months ago, four months ago, and
(47:37):
I'm I live in a suburb of Houston and I
needed to go out to Where was I in your
bass drop rinom I was interview. I was in no basstub, sorry, Brindham, Texas.
And I didn't have a full charge. And I'm thinking, okay,
well I'm gonna leave on a Saturday afternoon. There's most
(48:01):
electric cup vehicles, they have a navigation apple that you
can spot of where you could charge your vehicle. So
I'm going out to Brenham, Texas area. You know where
they make Bluebell ice cream when every like that, and
let me hop you out. It's not a big town
and they don't have a lot of freaking chargers. And
the chargers they do have they're mostly Tesla superchargers. Well
that didn't mean no good people, because I was in
(48:21):
a Chevy. And at this point I start getting a
little anxiety. And it's called range anxiety because the range
in my electric vehicle was dipping, dipping, dipping. I'm now
below thirty percent and I'm schitzing. I'm sweating people. I'm like, im,
I gotta be stuck out here. It was not fun.
I pull up to a Tesla supercharger thinking I don't
(48:42):
know what's the luck. Maybe they got adapted. There was
no adapters. I couldn't charge it at the end of
the day. I spent the night up there in some
Airbnb and I had a trickle charge overnight into just
a regular outlet. Maybe I got eight to ten extra
points or something, and I slowly, man, I had the
(49:03):
no air conditioning, the radio off on the way home
the next morning until I finally got back to semi civilization.
With all due respect to you, Brenham, and I found
I don't know, some like Electrify America or something that
actually had the right proper charger. I just it's it's
just why it's a car, people. Since Henry Ford created
(49:25):
the damn cabustable engine and we all have cars. I've
had a driver's license for forty four years of my life. Man,
I don't want to have to think about driving or
figuring out a driver charge car. It's supposed to be natural.
Sure enough, it wasn't. So think news like this. I
like news like this where Tesla does have a pretty
(49:48):
decent network across the country of chargers and superchargers that
you don't need a Tesla itself. This is going to
potentially open up people maybe think twice. Okay, well maybe
it's it's gonna be a little bit easier to charge
to vehicles. You're still gonna have to wait thirty five
forty five minutes an hour to get eighty percent. You're
still gonna have to pay for it. By the way,
(50:09):
electricity aint cheap, people, but very nice of Hyundai. And
I want to see more news like this, good news
here on the High Tech Texan Show for once in
a while. Speaking of good news, if you're a barbecue fan,
get down to Houston because you can smell the cooking paper.
This coming week it is the annual World Championship Barbecue
Contest and if you've never been, it is a blast.
(50:30):
I'll give you the insight info coming up and the
next segment I'm show back at it. Michael Garfield, Hope
(50:59):
all is well wherever you're listening to, not only across Houston,
but also the great state of tex So many fun
things to do in this great state of Texas, and
we're just at the countdown is on to the Houston
Livestock Showing Modio, which is you know, in March, and
it's if you've never been and again, I'm talking to
people across the state of Texas.
Speaker 2 (51:18):
It is.
Speaker 3 (51:18):
It's a sight to see. It's it's a blast. The concerts,
the food, the shopping, it's great. But for me in
longtime listeners, you know where I'm going this day. Just
before the actual audio starts itself, it is and I've
quoted this and I should actually trademark it the three
most fun nights in the city of Houston in any
given year. It is the World Championship Barbecue Contest. It
(51:41):
is awesome. It is right there on the grounds of
NRG Stadium. There are tents, tents, tents. If you drive
up and down six Loop six ' ten, you can
start smelling the parking lot easily a day or two before.
It is a blast. And I hope everybody comes. But
I because I know people, I'm gonna give you the insights.
I'm gonna spend a few minutes talking to Lisa shushan Offer.
(52:03):
She is the chairman of the World Championship Barbecue Contest.
She is probably on site right now. How long does
it take you, Lisa, to get the barbecue smell out
of your clothes?
Speaker 4 (52:15):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (52:16):
I don't think it goes away. They go into a
certain room in the garage.
Speaker 3 (52:21):
Very smart. That has actually a good tip. Let's start
with this. What year is this for the contest? How
many years has been going?
Speaker 5 (52:28):
This is our fifty first annual barbecue cookoff. We are
just so super excited about it.
Speaker 3 (52:34):
He one. Sadly, I am a little bit older than
this contest, but I have been almost half of my
life when I moved here to Houston, and it is
it really really is a blast. Let's start with this.
The dates this year.
Speaker 5 (52:46):
Are Thursday, February twenty seventh, Friday February twenty eighth, and Saturday,
March first. On Thursday, we're open from five to eleven.
On Friday we're open noon to eleven, and Saturday nine
am to eleven.
Speaker 3 (53:00):
Sort less than a week away. And it is, you know,
for some reason, for some reason, people can't get out
there for all three days and nights. Like I live
out there and you do too. It's the least it's worth,
you know, trying to find one, you know, evening to
go out there. It is a blast for those uninitiated
and never been out there, how would you describe it?
Once they get on that on that parking lot, always
(53:23):
to see the tents and they smell the great food,
and you see the carnival already being set up. I mean,
what's the vibe? I mean, how do you tell people
about it?
Speaker 5 (53:31):
I mean it's just a three day party on the
concrete out in the parking lot. And I mean we
are open to the public. There's a lot of private
tents out there, but we have a tent that anyone
can go to. You don't need a wristband. You can
go in there. You can get plate with brisket, sausage,
beans and chips. We have a live band in there
(53:53):
every single night, Cody Ray Hendry will be playing in there.
They can go in. It's a tent sphere. One thing
different this year that we have in there. We do
have our beverage stands, adult beverages, cokes, water. Everything is
cashless this year, so you will need to bring a
credit card.
Speaker 3 (54:13):
That's great, and that's a big question. A lot of
people understand that there's so many tens out there and
they are kind of private. They're private parties, and you
know you're gonna get invited some but there's still a
great opportunity. I know I've eaten there for anybody just
as long as they get a ticket and get on
the ground, you can go in. You get the big
plate of barbecue. I don't know, you used to have
some chips in there too, And so is that chuck
(54:35):
wagon what do we call.
Speaker 5 (54:36):
It, called the chuck wagon and then the rock and
barbecue saloons attached to it. And then we also have
the Miller like garden stage, which we have some great
entertainment on that. This year, our headliner on Thursday night
is Mike Ryan and on Friday we have Kevin Fowler
and Randall King. And on Saturday, our headliner is Roger Creigor.
Speaker 3 (54:58):
I mean Roger Creigor and Kevin I mean, you've got
some big names here in Southeast Texas. That is awesome. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (55:04):
So that's in that that's open to the public. It's
on our big stage right in the middle. But these
events here anybody can go to. Anybody can go to
the stage and see them.
Speaker 3 (55:14):
Talk at Lisa Shuston offers she is the chairman of
the World Championship Barbecue Contest. It is happening at NRG Stadium,
that's right home with the Texans, also home of the
Houston Livestock Show in Rodeo and it starts I guess
next Thursday. It's February twenty seventh, all the way through
Saturday on March. On March first, you've already talked about
the food. You've talked about the drinks people can get
(55:35):
in if people want to. What another And I'm not
gonna call it issue, but it's a tip that we
like giving people up parking. A lot of people are like, oh, yeah, yeah,
what's the what's the best way to park? What's the
best way to find some tents? Also, you kind of
went a little tech technology this year. I like it.
Speaker 5 (55:49):
Les Yeah, so we're we do have some on site
parking available at the six ' ten lot, which is
the old Astra World parking lot, and we also have
some available in the yellow lot. Those are both twenty
five dollars and they are cashlests also. But the best
way to get there is take the Rodeo Express shuttle buses.
If you go to rodeohuston dot com, you can get
(56:12):
all of the pickup places for those. Type in you
hit maps on the Rodeo Houston app, type in the
truck wagon and it'll walk you right to where the
free food is I'm on.
Speaker 3 (56:23):
My phone right now and I'm going to already doubt
because every year I got to get that Roady used. Obviously,
I've been so long there was no such thing as
an app when the Rodeo Houston the Championship Contest was
the creative but it is certainly now, so I'm downloading it.
Speaking to Lisa issues and Offer, she is the chairman
of this great contest. February twenty seven, twenty eighth, and
then again on March first. If people want to buy tickets,
(56:44):
I mean, I think you're probably gonna be like me,
you want to wreck. You'd recommend trying buying them before.
But you can also buy them on site. How much kids?
What were the price of kids? Adults? What are the
deeds there?
Speaker 5 (56:54):
Okay, so they are available online right now, or you
can get them at the gates. It's twenty six dollars
for thirteen and above. Children three to twelve is ten
dollars and under two is free.
Speaker 3 (57:05):
Tuesday and you can get it right there on the
Rodeo Euston app or if not, yeah, I know it's
it's in depending when you get there. It's not too
big of a deal to get them on site. But
I always say get there early, especially on Fridays because
that traffic can get there. But you know, if the
weather holds up, it is you know, listen, when the
sun's going down, you're smelling that some of the greatest
barbecue in the world. It is. It is a blast.
(57:26):
It is fun. So I wish you and the staff
the best, best, best of luck. I know I'll see
you out there several times. But for all those people,
not only across Houston, but I know I'm hurt all
around the state. You know, make some plans. You've got
nothing going on this weekend, come check it out. You know,
feel free to go to the rodeo too. But if
you've never been to this World Championship Barbecue contest, people,
you will think me thank me later. But it's all
(57:48):
due to Lisa and your massive staff. So we wish
you the best.
Speaker 5 (57:52):
Okay, thank you. I can't wait to see everybody on
the parking lot.
Speaker 3 (57:54):
You got it, people, all right, you look for me.
I will not be the one who was inebriated. That
was me the earlier Michael twenty years ago. I am
the responsible Michael. But come up and say hi, let's
take some selfies. Michael Garfield. That is the high tech
Texan show, hurt all across the state of Texas. Don't
go and now I'm getting ugry. I gotta go get
a snack while we take a commercial button. Don't go anywhere?
(58:35):
All right? Who is salivating? Who's ready for some barbecue?
We do think Lisa shuts An offer the chairman chairwoman
actually of the World Championship Barbecue Contest, which is the
prelude to the Houston Rodeo. Should you be in Houston?
If not, wann't you visit to the fair city And
let's just hope it HiT's not nearly as cold this
(58:56):
time next week, because it's it's in a cold, big park,
a lot of inner stadium. But that barbecue, the smell
and it tastes going to keep you warm. Michael Garfield
less than thirty minutes ago. I'll give out the number
one more time. If you want to try to call in,
ask some questions, got some comments, want to say hi.
All you need to do is just give a call
(59:16):
and callum read if you feel like answering it. If not,
let it roll the voicemail three four six twenty nine
textan spend a few minutes here talking about some vehicles.
I do cover the automobile industry with some reviews, non
paid for. This is just my thoughts. I've been test
driving vehicles for twenty fifty ten year tenure man. This
(59:37):
is ten years now. Each week I get a at
least one, if not two, vehicles from a manufacturer, not
a dealership. I don't know many dealerships, so I can't
get you a deal. This is not a sponsorship or
endorsement of a dealer for a dealership. These are just
my thoughts good, bad, or nastiness or loveliness of any vehicles.
(59:59):
But I have to be in two vehicles this past week.
One of itch you may not have heard of. It's
a Toyota, but it's called the Toyota Crown. Anyone, anyone
ever heard of a Toyota Crown. It is a sedan.
It is a four door sedan. It's the twenty twenty
five Toyota Crown. And it's slightly longer, little taller than
(01:00:26):
the Camray Hamry's a little wider. I'm trying to explain
what it is. Remember the let's go back to the seventies,
the Corona Mark too. Now I'm not going to go
that way. It's it's I had it. It's a head turner.
(01:00:48):
Mine was a two tone. It's like the hood was
painted black. The rest of the car was kind of
a copper bronze type of thing, and it was a
smooth ride to me. A little wide. I mean, I'm
it's not that I'm a wide dude. I'm sitting in
the driver's seat and normally my left elbow, if it's resting,
(01:01:10):
it's on the it's on the left door, right the
driver's side door, which has got a little kind of
elbow shelf, and on the right side it's the center console. Well,
this this car was wide. It's got a big If
you're kind of a larger person, this may be for you.
Because my left and right elbows it was tough to
(01:01:32):
simultaneously put them on the left and right side because
it was so big. So it was good. Good interior,
really good interior. It's got a nice multi media displayed
about a twelve inch but I think it's about twelve
point three inch Toyota Audio multi media display. Yes, it's
got the Android Auto, the Apple car Play, it's got
the serious jbads had eleven JBL speakers, good heads up display,
(01:01:56):
easy to get in, easy to get out. It's got
a really nice backseat. Again, and it's only the back seat, certainly,
it's just two rows. It's four doors. It's got a
typical trunk, meaning it doesn't have a tailgate because it's
not a CUV. It's not an suv. You don't see
a lot of sedans now, but this was it now.
Price wise, not the cheapest thing out there. Fifty seven
(01:02:20):
thousand and fifty eight thousand the way I test drove it.
Not the cheapest thing. Toyotas are great, they're strong brands,
they last a long time. Not the cheapest vehicles. And
I say cheap, let's just but in terms of inexpensive expensive,
there are other ones out there that are less expensive.
Let's put it this one. But it had good pickup.
(01:02:42):
This has a hybrid Max Two's had a two point
four liter four cylinder turbo speed, good pickup, three hundred
and forty combined system net horsepower. So it gets you
where you want to go. And I got a lot
of comments. I base some of my thoughts on That's
what I call head turns. If I'm parking somewhere, some
(01:03:02):
person comes up to me and goes, hey, what is
that that looks pretty cool? I got several of those,
got nice wheels, got nice tires. It's good, good, very
good miles pergallan's got thirty miles per gallon combined fuel
economy not bad whatsoever, And so I like it. Think
about it when it comes to price. There's other things
that sectors out there in the sedans that you may
(01:03:24):
or may not like. Speaking of which, let me throw
out another one. I'm gonna move on to another sedan
I happen to have this week. It was a twenty
twenty five Kia Hey four. Now, if you're a longtime listener,
I've long been a fan of South Korean manufacturers Pia, Hyundai, Genesis.
I really do like them. I think they've got great warranties,
(01:03:45):
and I think they're doing a very good, a great
Yeoman effort of making vehicles. The K four is a
four door sedan. It's sleek, it's it's relatively low. You're
gonna add you know, you're gonna have to kind of
step down to get inside the thing. This has a
two liter fuel injection four cylinder engine, and it was
(01:04:09):
Let me try to think as I'm looking at my
nose that that kind of stood out for me. Good
safety features, driver driver assistant features. But you sit inside
again another twelve inch twelve point three inch touch screens,
got the wireless charging and everything key you connect serious
and everything. The nice little instrument display right in front.
It is definitely has another trunk smart trunk doesn't have
(01:04:31):
the patch back because it's not a CEEV suv. It's
got a sixty to forty split folding rear seats though
so is for some reason you have something long that
you could put in the trunk and goes back there too.
The wheels are nice sixteen inch alloy wheels. Actually the
one I had, I have the I had the EX badge,
so was the K four EX had a little larger tiles,
(01:04:53):
had tire seventeen inch alloy wheels. So I know that
that up the price just to smidge. Now I'll get
to the p because that's the strong point for me.
So it had some good get up and go um,
no big blind spot. The back doors are kind of
interesting that the door handles in the back door did
(01:05:14):
kind of get a little, you know, kind of taken
used to them. They don't stick out. They're kind of
built into the doorframe. But that's again, I think that's
more of the neither here nor there type of stuff
in year one hundred thousand mile limited powertrain warranty. Again,
typical good stuff that Kia has in there. Kiak and
they're all keys, but this is the K four ex.
But here's the kicker MSRP of the KAK four. Twenty
(01:05:39):
four thousand dollars boom drop, the freaking key and the microphone.
That is less than half of the Toyota Crown. And
I'm not comparing to you, and I don't want to
compare the Toyota Crown versus the Kyak four. I've just
happened to have both in the same weekend. They just
happen to be be both up sedans. But a twenty
(01:06:03):
five thousand dollars Listen, you know, let's go back forty
years ago, and that was a lot of money. Today,
it's very tough to find vehicles that are under thirty
five thousand dollars. This is a twenty five thousand dollars
sedan that is comfortable, that's got some nice features, impressive.
This goes near the top of my recommendation list all
(01:06:24):
things being considered, and I consider the price thirty three
miles per gallon on the fuel economy. Another neat feature too.
If you're looking for a sedan, certainly they'll fit our
seats in the back. Now nowadays, if you're a young
couple and you're gonna have kids and you want to
(01:06:45):
put a car seat two in the back, you probably
maybe looking for something of a compact utility or an
suv so you don't have to bend down a little lower.
I got you, But you're also cost conscious, as you
should be. I'm just I think the feature of this
sticks out to me. It's even before I knew what
the price point was, because I don't look at that
(01:07:06):
Monroney sticker really until later in the week when I'm
test driving a vehicle. But dang Man always been a
Kia fan, and again this is not a Kia doesn't
pay me one freaking cent for this, nor does any
other manufacturer. I just I test drive it. I liked
it a lot. If you want to see what it
looks like, you can go to my Instagram account, go
to high tech Texting. You can go to my ex
(01:07:26):
account high tech text and spell the whole thing out.
I didn't love the particular color I was in. It
was called the Morning Haze, kind of a weird looking
off blue type of thing. It's not the point, but
it's the Kia K four. I do know they have
a Kyak five. I don't know if it's on the
market yet, but if you were watching the NBA All
Star Game the Slam Dunk contest last week where Matt
McClung jumped over a Kiak five, I know they're coming
(01:07:51):
out with the K five. I haven't tried that one yet.
With the K four for twenty five thousand dollars, if
I had the purchase a vehicle right now, even potentially
new the top of my list because I do consider
price points. Hey, if you want me to test drive
something that you have not heard me talk about, it
very simple. You can go to Michael at high Tech
Texting dot com. I'd love to hear your thoughts right now.
(01:08:11):
We do only have one more segment left in this show,
so you better get in. Probably the last time. I'll
give you this number this week three four six twenty
nine text and three four six two nine t x
AM my thoughts. So this week, what is Michael tried
to high right.
Speaker 4 (01:08:27):
Up the fin a few minutes of this week's high
(01:08:48):
Tech Texting show, and you've listened for all one hour
and fifty one minutes right now.
Speaker 3 (01:08:54):
Man, man, you guys are do you have nothing else

You stalkers? You I do thank you for duty d
If you did miss any ar part of the show. Callum,
You're gonna upload this to the podcast here soon so
you can go to iHeartRadio. You could search for Michael
Garfield or high Tech Texan Hi g h T E
(01:09:18):
H T e x A N and you can listen
to this over and over again. I reviewed two different vehicles,
the Toyota Crown, which is a sedan, and the Kiak four,
which is also a sedan. I've talked about the Saturday
Night Live fiftieth anniversary special. I am an SNL fan,
I am a fanboy. Didn't love the SNL fifty special.
(01:09:40):
I did love the SNL musical special last weekend at
Radio City Music. All that was actually the highlight and
treat for me. New iPhone coming out. I gave a
review of the New one plus Watch three, one of
my favorite watches smart watches. It's just went on sale
and it'll be out in actually online. You go to
(01:10:01):
OnePlus dot com later this week and you can purchase
it three hundred and thirty dollars. I actually did like this.
I did promise I was going to talk a little
about YouTube TV and how you get your programming. YouTube TV,
which is different than YouTube. YouTube TV is this streaming
service that you can watch dozens and dozens and dozens
of channels. All you need is an Internet connection. And
(01:10:24):
when it came out years ago, it was it was amp,
it was the King, it was awesome. Starting price was
what thirty thirty five bucks a month, had all the
sports that you wanted, everything you needed. You can watch
it at home, you can watch it on your phone,
you get a number of different things. Well, YouTube TV,
like many other things, the price went up, kept going up,
(01:10:47):
kept going up, and about what two three weeks ago
they announced it's going up again. YouTube TV per month
right now is something like eighty three eighty five dollars
a month.
Speaker 2 (01:10:56):
Woo.
Speaker 3 (01:10:57):
Then that's on top of your internet connection. A lot
of people I heard, got a lot of emails. A
lot of people, Man, what should I do? Instead listen.
There's a lot of streaming live TV things. You can
get Hulu Plus and Roku and a number of other things.
Don't sleep on the fact people that if you really
just want to watch your local TV stations, you want
(01:11:19):
to watch news, you want to watch your typical ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS,
Fox stations. It is an f AA not FAFCC mandate
that every local station is mandated to broadcast over the
air signals, just like when we grew up in the
seventies and eighties. Man, all you need is a digital
(01:11:41):
TV antenna, which costs almost next to nothing. You put
it on, you tune it in, and you can watch
free FRI over the year channels. In Houston alone, there
are well over one hundred channels sub channels. A lot
of them are in Spanish, but they're out there too,
So there is a way to get free TV. And
(01:12:02):
not only that. YouTube TV whoo bad time to announce
they were raising their price because they also were in
a fight with Paramount, which is the owner of CBS,
Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, MTV, because they couldn't reach an agreement.
Just like three times a year, you hear something stupid
like this, and they were getting ready to pull off
(01:12:23):
every single one, I think twenty plus CBS affiliated or
Paramount affiliated channels, Paramount plus. It goes on and on
and on. Well, they last minute chalking. They saved the day.
YouTube and TV, YouTube TV in Paramount Nickelodeon's CBS Sports everything.
They came to an agreement. They're going to continue to
(01:12:45):
carry the Paramount channels. It's it's it's not fun and
it ain't cheap. I live on TV, I live on ESPN. Now,
these these bundles are just as much as cable. And
now these other companies like ESPN is going to bundle
(01:13:07):
itself with its you know, other sports channels. We're in
a crazy time right now where the licensing and the
rights fees for live sports, which is the number one
driver and carrier of the reason the price is are escalating.
They're only going up. I understand why YouTube d the
(01:13:27):
as to charge because they ESPN charges them to put
it on there. In ESPN now is paying the NBA
alone what's seventy six billion dollars over eleven years. And
they're upping the rights on NFL, which is why Netflix
in Amazon Prime, they're getting into the game tip. It's
a game. It's a business that I follow, and if
you need more help, I will try to help facilitate it.
(01:13:48):
I don't recommend one or the other. I don't work
with ipay and exorbit them. I don't get anything free,
and I'm not endorsing anything. I pay over three hundred
and freaking twenty dollars a month on stupid in Houston.
I need to cut the cable. It ain't even funny.
Now's the time to do it because football season's over.
I have nothing to do or watch really in terms
(01:14:09):
of sports that I really really, really really care about
for the next six months. So I say this is
because I want to tell you I am that dude
not trying to steer you the wrong direction. I'm that
honest guy. And if I'm mad, you're gonna hear my voice.
And I even talk faster, which is almost impossible. So anyway,
there's I promise to talk about it, and that's what
you go. So we'll talk more about this, you know,
next week, and as news warrants. Other than that, I
(01:14:34):
think we'll start winding up the show. I want to
thank our Pottins and our sponsors. Total Wireless five G.
Speaker 2 (01:14:39):
