you know what's nice about this isyou can sit down one on one and
get not only exclusive expo discounts youcan't get them anyplace else, but you
can get sit with them. Sitwith a cruise line or a resort or

(01:12):
a tour company and look at toursthat you're considering, look at travel that
you're thinking about, and ask questions, is this the right fit for me
and my family? Who's ever travelingwith you. It's a lot of fun.
Now I want to tell you itis a ticket to event. It's

I want to introduce my good friendand president of Morris Columbus Travel, Brent
Jensen. Brent, welcome back tothe Travel Show. Thank you thanks for
having me on your show again.Larry. This is quite an event.
Oh, we had a huge turnoutyesterday before we're even open, Larry,

(02:20):
we had like four hundred people inline waiting, pounding on the door saying
open, Open, Open, andwe had several thousand coming. Now,
don't be scared by that number becausewe have a huge conference area. It
is massive, about the size oftwo football fields. With over one hundred
travel vendors. So, Brent, for visitors coming to the travel expo,

(02:46):
what can they expect, Well,Larry, everyone wants to travel, Everyone
wants to take a vacation, Everyonewants to have a great experience. Come
to the travel show. Again, you mentioned we have over our one hundred
vendors. You go walk around, you see what you want to do,
you see, you take information fromthe vendors. Then we have over fifty
Morris Columbus Advisors right on site tohelp you plan your next vacation. It's

(03:07):
a win win. Now you've talkedpublicly Brent about some exclusive travel expode discounts.
If you book now, and ifyou can't, you know there's a
lot of a lot of people wantingto see the Morris Columbus Travel Advisors.
Sure, if you can't get intoone today, I think if you leave

(03:31):
your name and number, absolutely thosediscounts, which are only applicable today,
will carry over absolutely. And againif you can't make it to the show
today, if you can't come downyou've got something else going on, please
give one of our offices a callnext week. They can go over what
the show specials were. If you'reinterested in a Viking cruise or a celebrity
cruise or whatever you're interested in.We can explain to you what the show

(03:53):
discounts are and you can still takeadvantage of that. So some of those
discounts will carry over to this Yes, oh that's pretty good. I think
you mentioned until you have to bookit. You don't have to travel,
but book it by February the ninthcoaches like two weeks. Two weeks?
Yep, what sort of discounts.Give me some examples of how I can
save hundreds and hundreds of dollars eachindividual Each individual company has their own discounts,

(04:17):
but some are offering five or sixhundred eight some even one thousand dollars
off You know, some of ourluxury cruise lines are offering one thousand dollars
offer per booking, and some ofthe cruise lines are offering free airfare.
It's kind of a buy one,get one free, and the first ticket
has always at a discounted price.I'll give me an example. Remember last

(04:38):
summer I did the London to IcelandLondon, Belgium, Netherlands, Norway and
Iceland, and you said you hada wonderful time. Oh my gosh,
I'm going to be doing that oneagain in June of twenty twenty five.
Next year, we'll go from Iceland. We make three stops there, go
to Norway, the Norwegian Fjords andBergen down to Well I'll be Amsterdam in

(05:02):
the Netherlands, to Bruce, Belgium, which may be the most beautiful city
in all of Europe, and theninto Southampton on the south coast of England,
and we'll have an option to spendthree days two nights there in London.
But I priced out my ticket andevery ticket price is different because you
go into a different destination. Butfor Kathy and I last year salt Lake

(05:27):
to Iceland home for excuse me,salt Lake to London home from Iceland.
I priced that on Delta United.Their lowest fairs were twenty two hundred dollars
each, but Norwegian Cruise Line theirdiscounted fair for me was fifteen hundred dollars.
Kathy went free, including not evenpaying for taxes. That is free

(05:49):
also gave us an effective rate ofseven hundred and fifty five dollars in summertime
Salt Lake to London back from England. So what are some of the other
experiences that people can have. Ithink you have some information seminars, absolutely
over thirty of them, and youdid some of them yesterday. Larry,
you've done something today. You'll stilldo something this afternoon. So wow,

(06:12):
you three or four, Simon, aren't you done? Well? Actually I've
done three now, gotcha? Howyou got a fourth on South America?
I just finished one on Europe, not only the programs that I'll be taking,
but all of our Europe programs. It's just so much fun, so
much fun. What are the traveltrends that you're seeing? Absolutely? So

(06:38):
I'm here at the front and peopleare asking me questions that they're coming in.
So I'm telling people, gosh, you know, San find it's on.
You know, people want to goto Mexico, they want to go
to Hawaii, and we've seen alot of kids come through. Disneyland and
Disney World are obviously very popular. We're getting a lot of people that want
to do the African Safari again,Larry, Oh my gosh. You know,
we just had a fellow, justBefo, went on the air that

(06:58):
went to Africa last year with us, and he talks about it in an
overused phrase, a life changing expIt really is isn't it. It is
like nothing else you've ever experienced withthat. You know what's interesting, Brent,
is you know there's a wonderful traveldomestically and internationally. Traditionally, if

(07:20):
you look at the Google searches ontravel, it's been in you know,
pre covid, it was sixty percentdomestic, forty percent international. That has
completely flip flopped. And I'm goingto ask you why it's now on Google
search for travel sixty percent international andforty percent domestic. A complete flip.

(07:44):
What do you see happening? Again? People want experiences. People want to
be able to travel to Europe, they want to be able to travel to
the South Pacific, and those aredestinations that they might not know as much
about. So of course the Googlesearches they want to find out a little
bit more about it. But again, even a better reason to contact your
local Morris Columbus travel advisor who cangive you advice and counsel on what you
need to do to travel, whatyou need to do to find the best

(08:05):
airfare, what you need to doto find the best hotel and the best
package deals. That's what we do. One of our slogans, Larry's you
know, we do all the work, you have all the fun. Do
youenerally tell people on the tours thatI host? And I just got back
this past Monday, what like fivedays? You've been gone for like six
weeks? Yeah? I mean youkeep telling me why why am I here
in the office and all were travelingthe world. Do you understand your role

(08:28):
in Norris Columbus? I'm not sureI do. Well, let me let
me paint it in real simple terms. I'm a simple man. Your job
is to work so that I cantravel. Now, I like this relationships
and that. Yeah. Hey,here's a question that we're often asked,
which is better an ocean cruise ora river cruise? Wow? So you

(08:50):
and I have both been on bothLarry's, so we know we know exactly
what we like to do. Obviously, two completely different experiences. I love
them both. I don't think there'sthere is no bad one. Let's talk
about river cruises. What are thehighlights for you of going on a river
cruise? Be it the Nile, the may Kong or throughout Europe? Yeah,

(09:11):
And people always ask me to youknow, what's the best river cruise
to do? If you haven't cruisedon a river cruise before. Obviously we
would probably want to start you outwith either the Rhine or the Danube.
Those are the two most of themost popular causes. Then after you've done
that, you can do lots ofothers. But the ships are so small
level. You can pull right intothe major cities and you just walk off
the and the vessel and you're thereand the small villages. You know.

(09:31):
The Danube has two itineraries. There'sthe North South, say Budapest through Hungary,
Slovakia, Austria and Germany. Alot of them get off at Wilshoffen,
but they also have one that peopledon't realize that is off the church.
That's the East West Budapest to Bucharest, which is absolutely amazing. I've

(09:54):
done that one before and you canyou can get off it is well,
I'm talking to You're at Jensen,President of Morris Columbus Travel, the Swami
of travel who stays in the office. Thank you so that I can travel.
Yes, Larry Gelwicks, the Mahalariof travel. Listen, come on

(10:15):

we're giving our travel show listeners freetickets at morriscolumbus dot com forward slash Free.
That's Morris Coolumbus dot com Forward slashFree. And coming up in the
next segment is one of the greatestpeople I know, Abby Bonnell from England

(10:37):
and a local radio host here andcelebrity. We'll be talking about the UK
here on the Travel Show. You'relistening to the Travel Show on Talk radio
one oh five nine k n RS. Just listen and you'll know you're listening

(11:05):
to the Travel Show. I'm LarryGelwicks, the Getaway a Guru, the
Mahalaria of Travel broadcasting live from theMountain America Expost Center in Sandy, Utah.
Yes, this is the Utah TravelExpo. Now it is a ticketed
event, but for our Travel Showlisteners, we have free tickets. You
print them yourself, simply go tomorriscolumbus dot com forward slash free. That's

(11:28):
Morriscolumbus dot com, Forward slash free. And we're going to be here at
the Mountain America expos Center in Sandyuntil five o'clock today and we have over
one hundred travel vendors, airlines, cruise lines, resorts, safari companies,
international travel bureaus, tour companies, everything that you can imagine. And we're

(11:50):
giving away over twenty thousand dollars infree travel in airlines, free cruises,
free hotels. Days. Now,somebody's going to win these, and it
may as well be you. I'dlike to welcome to the Travel Show one
of my favorite people in the wholeworld. And that's no hype. She
really is Abby Banell. You knowwhen I grow up, Abby, I

(12:11):
want to be Abbi Banell. Yeah, whatever, Larry, let's look at
your life, jet setter. You'reonly in the country about two days a
month. Well, you know that'swhen the wanted posters come out. We're
talking to Abby Banell, a popularradio personality here in Utah and southern Idaho
with station k n RS, whichis the originating station for the Travel Show.

(12:35):
Of course, you know we're syndicatednow from the Inner Mountain West all
the way to the Atlantic Ocean inFlorida, United Kingdom too. I hope,
so, I hope, so well, Abby, jolly old England.
You have a love affair with yourhome country, don't you. I love
it. I have a lot tobe grateful for, a beautiful family,

(12:56):
a ton of relatives over there isa beautiful and I grew up there,
I was educated there. I wentto University of Wales and work for piccdilly
Radio and travel the world and wasoffered a job here as a young girl
at twenty five and here I am, which was through yesterday. Oh my

(13:16):
goodness. Well listen Abby. Almostevery year. Yes, you personally host
I think one of the most fabulousUK British Isles tours. You are visiting
Scotland and Wales and jolly old England. Yes, this depart September eleventh.
You're back on the twentieth walk usthrough what one can expect and we keep

(13:41):
this to one bus so you havea very intimate experience. What can people
expect in England, Wales and Scotlandwith Abby Vanil this September. It's not
your rip andry tour. I wasjust talking to a lovely couple who've been
on my tour twice before and theyactually went on a different tour last year

(14:01):
and told me it was a holynightmare. So the reason this tour,
I think is different is I takeyou to different places, places that are
not on the normal tour sheet. So we start off in London. We're
going to show you all the sidesyou have to see London. We go
on a great cruise, you know, down the River Thames. You see
the Houses of Parliament, all thesethings that you've only ever seen on the

(14:22):
TV before. We do so manyfun things, Saint Paul's, you name
it, stay in four star hotels. The next day we go to Windsor.
Windsor is spectacular. It's where WindsorCastle is. It dominates the landscape
on the hills set the royal family. Yes, so the monarch. It's
one of the oldest castles, thousandyears old. Queen Elizabeth the Second is

(14:43):
buried there. Many of the wonderfulroyal monarchy and the history are all buried
there. Then we the next daywe oh and by the way, you
have lots of free time too,so that afternoon Ea Fission, Chips,
fish and Chips, West End show, whatever you want to do, shopping
in Harrod's afternoon. Next day wehead out to Blenhim Castle. What in
Oxfordshire fabulous, incredible, splendid gardens, opulence to the extreme. Winston Churchill

(15:09):
Sir was born there. Is heburied there? No, he's not buried
there. But he was born bornthere. So then we get on the
way back. We're heading north upEngland. This is the great thing.
You see, the whole spine ofEngland. We go to the Cotswolds where
we have lunch in. Oh,give me the names of a couple villages
in the couttle. I love thesebought and on the water is the one
we're going to. Gorgeous, Yeah, little low bridges over the river that

(15:33):
literally flows through the center of town. So then we head to Chester of
a fine example, one of thebest in the world of a Roman city
two thousand years old, Elizabeth Elizabethanbeautiful buildings, cobbled streets. The next
day we're going to Snowden, oneof my favorite things. We take one
of these magnificent I won't say it'sa plush train, far from it.

(15:54):
It's the views of Mount Snowdonia thatyou love. See, is it?
Well? It were pulled by asteam engine and we stopped for sheep on
the way up. It's just loveand you just can't believe the visitas you're
looking at outside the window. Atthe very top you stop and I think
it's like three thousand plus feet there'sa great little place for lunch, restroom

(16:15):
and views is It's just a magnificent, magnificent journey. It's one of my
favorites of all times. Where Iwent to university in that area at Bangor.
Then gosh, the next day wehead to my village, picturesque right
on the Welsh border, Cheshire, built in the twelfth century. I was
always nervous. You made me gohere, and I said, please go
to want to go to my village. That's one of the highlights every time.

(16:37):
And the villagers can't wait. Arethe Americans coming? When are they
coming? They get so excited, say some of them will come out with
American flags. They're in the window. They had them in the shops.
It's like after the war. It'sincredible, the beautiful shops Union Canal where
all the tourists go. It getspicturesque village all the time, and our

(16:59):
family home is still there. Thenwe head up, Oh, and I've
missed one of the best parts. We go to my old ancient pub on
the outskirts. Is like walking backin time, built in the fifteenth century.
They never take tour groups wouldn't considerit. We are in one of
the misconceptions that some Americans have aboutthe pub is at some bar. Now
it's a family restaurant. Oh,it's filled with antiques and shepherds par This

(17:30):
place is and you will take photographsof the Combermere Arms and never forget it.
This is where my family always goesto. Our favorite spot is gorgeous.
Then we head to Scotland, Edinburgh, Edinburgh Castle and after ed we
took all of it and lock loamandlot Loman. Have you ever gone on
a cruise on lot Lomand the narrationis spectacular. We have to worry about

(17:53):
the Lockness Monster. I haven't spottedit yet, but you spot lots of
other things. I mean, there'slots of lots of things we're going to
see and all the tools are allset up for you don't have to worry
about anything and Abby will be yourpersonal host and tour guide. The tour
dates are September eleventh to the twentieth. You could certainly go early or extend

(18:14):
late. Abby Bannell, September eleventhto the twentieth. England, Wales and
Scotland. Call Morris Columbus Travel. You want to get on this because we
keep it to a small group Abby, thank you for joining me. Hey,
coming up next here on the TravelShow, we have the regional manager
for Norwegian Cruise Light here on theTravel Show. To the Travels Show,

(18:55):
I Larry Go. It's the Getaway, Go the Mahalary. We are broadcast
live from the Utah Travel Expo. We're here at the Mountain America Expo Center
in Sandy. And now I've toldyou in every segment this is a ticket
and event six bucks a ticket. You get some tremendous savings. But for
our Travel Show listeners, I havefree tickets for you and here's how you

(19:18):
get them. Go to Morris.I'm pleased to welcome I should say back
to the Travel Show. Lisa Presley, Regional key account director for Norwegian Cruise
Line. Lisa, welcome back tothe Travels Show. Because you've been with
us before, I have, Larry. This is the most fantastic show there
is. I absolutely love the show. Why what is it that is different

(19:41):
about this show than because you doa lot of shows around the TLP.
I do all around the country. This is my favorite because number one,
the quality of the travel partners hereat Morris Columbus. Thank you. They
have the experience. They have theknowledge and I can always always count on
them to make sure that our guestsget the best cruise experience. You know,

(20:03):
I've talked to a lot of vendorsLisa about the Utah Travel explot and
they consistently say that one of thebig differences and what not only do they
love coming to Utah, but it'sthe people. Yes, they're educated people.
They come with questions as opposed towhere's my free pen? Absolutely no,
They're coming with a destination in mind. They know where they want to

(20:26):
go on vacation and they're just lookingfor additional information. Well, you know,
I'm ncl's biggest fan in the world. I seriously, this is no
hype. I love Norwegian Cruise Line. You introduced freestyle cruising, and I
want you to talk about the promotionsthat you're having now you basically sail almost

(20:48):
everywhere in the world. Pretty much, Yeah, pretty much. You know.
In fact, next week, aweek ago, in a week I
guess about eight and nine days,I'll be with a group of travel show
listeners sailing from catch this itinerary folks, Bali to Thailand. We will visit
Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnamand then Thailand. And one of the

(21:15):
promotions I want you to talk aboutis the free airfare. It's a NCL
special. Yes, it's our buyone, get one free airfare. And
what that is. It's in combinationwith our free at sea promotion, which
is what it is. Free unlimitedbeverages, free specialty dining, free Wi
Fi. We have free shore excursions, and we have some sailings that we

(21:40):
offer third and fourth guests travel forfree in the same state I got.
I gotta give you a warning,Lisa, because you know we have guests
from all over. Yeah, mostof them are Utah and southern Idaho and
the six people who live in Wendover, Nevada or is it seven? Now
catch this. I'm warning you onthat free at see the unlimited beverages.

(22:04):
They will completely drink you dry ofdiet coke. That's okay, that's my
favorite drink too. When we switchedto coke last year, it made all
Oh my gosh, you know,I was praying you'd move from Pepsia.
Talk about Let me ask you, what are There's so many good choices out

(22:26):
there? Oh? Absolutely, whyNorwegian? Well we are a little different.
We are freestyle cruise Lange, whichmeans we've got no set dining times,
so you can have dinner whenever youwant. We have resort casual attire,
so Larry, you don't have topack your tucks when you sail with
us. You can leave that athome. Oh my godness, I love
you already. But what even better? I'm sure you're aware of this,

(22:51):
but we have a show special that'sgoing on only for our guests that book
through Morris Columbus. And guess whatI'm going to get away on this one,
Larry, I'm going to break thebudget. I want you guys to
break my budget on this promotion.I'm listening. I'm giving away free prepaid
gratuities. You will well, that'sa big deal on a seven day cruise.
It's not like one hundred and twentyOh, it's a two hundred and

(23:12):
eighty dollars values for a couple.Yes, it's for guests one and two,
so normally it's about one hundred andforty bucks for one. Two hundred
and eighty dollars plus the free atsea practice, the drinks, the Wi
Fi, the shore excursion credits, and the free air And I want to
give you an example of how goodthis is because sometimes I see promos where

(23:33):
they jack the airfare up to giveyou a deal, and you know it's
it's smoking mirrors, right. NCLdoesn't do that. For example, on
this Bali cruise, the buy one, get one free our ticket Salt Lake
all the way to Bali, denPasar and then home from Bangkok with sixteen
hundred dollars. I priced that outon Delta America United it was about twenty

(23:56):
three hundred dollars now and gets betterbecause that was my price sixteen hundred dollars.
Even Kathy, my wife, goesfree. That gave us an effective
rate of eight hundred dollars Salt Laketo Bali home from Thailand, where normally
it's twenty two to twenty three hundreddollars. It is. I've told you

(24:21):
privately that it's the finest cruise promotionthat I can remember in my going on
forty five years in the travel business. And what's even better is on all
of our itineraries. So if youwant to go to Alaska, if you
want to go to Europe, ifyou happen to want to go to Africa,
maybe you want to go to theCaribbean. You name the itinerary.
We're going to offer the bugo Eraon. Oh my gosh, do you

(24:45):
have a favorite cruise destination? Oh? There, you know my favorite?
It's Alaska. I've been there twelvetimes. There's some places that I call
one and done. Yes, I'mglad I went. Don't ever have to
go back place like Cleveland. Youknow you didn't say Detroit, So thank
you, thank you. Are youa Lions fan? Oh you bet.

(25:07):
I grew up in San Francisco. We we should have a little bet here,
a big gulp diet coke. Ohthere we all the Lions or the
Niners. But Alaska. You know, there are other places that I've been
to so many times and I can'twait to get that back. Alaska is

(25:32):
one of this I get giddy aboutgetting back and basically doing the same thing.
Well, there's something to do everyport. I like to fish.
I learned how to HElib it fishup there. Yes, the help capital
of the world fly fishing. Ilearned how to fly fish in icy straight
And I'll tell you what, there'snothing more heart pounding to be fly fishing

(25:52):
in a river and get a hit. No to look down the river two
hundred yards and there's a bear,a bear, and I knew that.
Hey listen nough. We've been speakingto Lisa Presley, regional key account director
for Norwegian Cruise Line. You canvisit her booth right here at the Utah
Travel Expo. Lisa, thank youfor joining us on the Travel Show and

(26:15):
I'll be stopping by your booth assoon as the show's over. Please do
her book. Larry very good,Thank you, Lisa, thank you.
Coming up next here on the TravelShow is a dear friend Candy from the
Tourism Authority of Thailand t A T. And Candy Sawadi Cup. You know

(26:37):
that's an intro. That's the greetingin Thailand is Sawadi. A man would
say Saudi Cup and a woman wouldsay Sawadi. Kay. You know with
that, Well, welcome here tothe Travel Show. This is not your
first rodeo here, is it not. I think I've joined you maybe three
or four times. Yes, yes, yes, you know. I just
returned from Thailand Monday of this week, like five days ago, and I'll

(27:03):
be returning to Thailand in the nextmonth, in February with another group.
And I have said this repeatedly onthe air. If it were not for
my kids and grandkids, Kathy andI, my wife, Kathy and I
would live in Thailand. But Ican't decide that Chang Mai or Pouquette.
I decided I need to get aplace in both. That sounds like the

(27:26):
best time of plan. You know, Tourism to Thailand seems to lead so
many surveys in interest to Asia, especially Southeast Asia. What is the magic
of Thailand? I definitely believe likethe moment you land in Thailand and that
airplane door opens up and that humiditeehits you, you're met with like a

(27:49):
sense of a vibrancy that is unmatchedby any other place. You know.
The months that I prefer you goto there's something special twelve months a year,
but I really like November to February. That's the most weather. It's
I don't find the human I mean, we're in the tropics. I don't
find the humidity oppressive, particularly upnorth. You know, we visit Chang

(28:11):
Mai and chang Rai on the tourI do a I do the most unique
tour once a year in January becauseI love the weather right there, and
uh, that's a foothills in theHimalayas. Yes, there's such a diversity
of geography. You got the midlandsBangkok, and you know, Bangkok is
a big city, but it hasits own special draw What is what do

(28:34):
you what are the draw What arethe highlights of Bangkok? It is a
Cosmotopolitan city, but on every singlecorner there's culture wedded into every part of
it. You can walk down thestreet and bump into us in eleven,
but right next door is a gianttemple, and that's kind of how it
is throughout the entire city. There'sdifferent neighborhoods. There's something to discover at
every turn. You know, Bangkokhas been called the Venice of the East.

(29:00):
Were three hundred canals And I tellpeople you have four type of taxis
in Bangkok. You have your traditionaltaxi with a meter. You have the
tuktuk, which is the three wheelwhere you negotiate the price and you want
to negotiate down seeing an American andthey seem to raise the price a little
bit. Yeah, but they dothat around the world. That's nothing unique.

(29:22):
The third is a water taxi. You get in a boat and they'll
take you where you want. Togo three hundred canals crisscross the city.
The four the last one is Idon't recommend it's a motorcycle. Ah,
that's not my favorite either. Yeah, so we've got we've got about two
minutes. We're speaking with Candy withthe Tourism Authority of Thailand. What are

(29:47):
your favorite areas of Thailand? Inmy personal opinion, I really do enjoy
being in Bangkok. I love howit's vibrant. Yes, there's chaos in
there, but then it's just somuch. I love the night markets,
I love the street food, theability to explore the city twenty four hours
a day. And then of coursefor me, I'm not much of a
beach person, but I love themountains of Chungmai Chin Lai and just being

(30:11):
able to escape there. Do youknow, I don't know how to explain
this, but I love all ofSoutheast Asia. I feel different in Chaila,
and I mean this literally. Ican go into Lao or burn up
me and mar Cambodi and I lovethem, but it feels different. It
just feels different than than Thailand. All Right, very quickly, we've got

(30:36):
about less than a minute. What'syour favorite Thai food? Oh? This
is so hard go to comfort foodin Thailand, you know, honestly,
as of right now, would probablybe a nice bowl of boat noodles with
extra chili in it. Also, you love the the the pa Papaya said,
I love pad Thai kowsoi and mangoand sticky rice. Listen, Candy,

(31:00):
thank you so much for joining us. I'll be talking more about Thailand
here. And would you do mea favor. You're based in Los Angeles.
In Los Angeles, maybe sometime inMarch or April, would you come
back on the show. We knewit by telephones. I'd love to have
you. Thank you anyway. Copkoum Kop, thank you very much.

(31:21):
That's Candy with the Tourism Authority ofThailand. And I'll be telling you more
about my annual trip to Thailand hereon the Travel Show. You're listening to
The Travel Show on Talk Radio oneoh five nine kN rs. Just listen
and you'll know your listening to theTravel Show. I'm Larry Gelwiz, the

(31:44):
Getaway Guru, broadcasting live from theMountain America Expo Center in Sandy. It's
the Utah Travel Expo. Today.Until five o'clock, we had a full
house yesterday. And you know,we have over one hundred travel vendors here,
airlines, cruise lines, safari companies, resorts, hotels, international travel

(32:08):
bureaus. We just spoke to theTourism Authority of Thailand. Yes, one
of them came to us from Lathe other from Thailand, all the way
here for the Utah Travel Expo. Now it is a ticket and event,
but for our Travel Show listeners,we have free tickets. Simply go to
morriscolumbus dot com, forward slash free. The only thing better than cheap is

(32:30):
free morriscolumbus dot com, forward slashfree. And we have a very special
guest, Mary Lee, the salesmanager for the Travelers Corp. Mary,
Welcome to the Travel Show. Thankyou so much. It's so fun and
exciting to be here. This hasbeen a great, great expo, it

(32:52):
has, and this is where we'vebeen really blessed with wonderful weather and just
the snowcap peaks and the sunshine peakinghere and there. But this is where
just seeing all the activity, theexcitement about travel makes me excited, so
really really happy to be here.Fantastic. You know, the Travel Corp,
we'll call it TTC is a familyof travel companies. Introduce us because

(33:15):
most people don't know the Traveler Corp. Now they'll know Trafalgar or some of
these others. But introduce us tothe family of travel companies in TTC.
So TTC short for the Travel Corporation. This is where we are still family
owned, privately held. We've beenaround for one hundred plus years. This
is where we started, very humbly, in a small office in London.

(33:39):
So Trafalgar Trafalgar a lot of folkshaving traveled with us before, but Trafalgar's
one of our brands, Incight Vacations, Luxury Gold, Brendan Vacations, Brendan
especially since so many folks want toget to Ireland and Scotland. That's all
they do is Ireland and Scotland.Brendan's a great company. Brendan is wonderful.
Actually, just got from Ireland withBrendan, did you Oh, very

(34:02):
good? So you got Trafalgar, you got Brandan, Insight Vacations, Kentiquy
for the ones who are eighteen tothirty five years old. If you want
to get out and see the worldand meet friends, meet new friends from
all over the world. It's agreat brand there and along with cost Saver,
cost Saver that's our budget brand thatif you're more of an independent traveler

(34:22):
but you want the structure of aguided trip, cost Saver is a great
way to show you get a lotof free time and a lot of structured
time. You know what I loveabout well organized group travel. As I
tell people what I host groups,we have done everything. The only thing
you have to do is show upon time when we have a tour or
something. You know, I lovethat show up. That's all you have

(34:45):
to do. So I'm a formertravel director. That was what I did
for our company, for the TravelCorporation, So I was an insight a
Trafalgar travel director for over a decadeand to be punctual absolutely everyone appreciates it.
But going back to the Travel Corporation, this is why we say we
have tours for any and everyone. So depending on the travel style, depending

(35:07):
on your budget, we have somethingand we're gonna get you. Now you
want to go, let me justfocus on Brandan and Trafalgar because in my
mind, the probably the most wellknown names. Yeah, there's a lot
of good choices out there. Mary, why Trafalgar, Why Brendan, which
again is UK. So let's startwith Trafalgar. Trafalgar is one of the

(35:31):
most award winning brands period. Thisis where, going back, we have
been doing this for one hundred plusyears. We know what we're doing Trafalgar.
This is where, in addition totaking you to let's say the iconic,
the bucket list destinations, we wantto ensure that you're having a rich
cultural experience. So this is wherewe actually will add additional experiences where you

(35:54):
get to, let's say, connectwith the locals. So you might have
a be my guest dinner at acast with a French family that you're never
going to get on your own orif you travel with another tour operator.
This is what I call the insiderexperiences that you get with Trefogar, Brendan,
vacations, anything with the kilt.So all we do is Ireland and

(36:14):
Scotland. Let me ask you aquestion. Do you do a tour during
the tattoo Festival? We do,which is always August. Now, folks,
the tattoo is not getting I LoveDonnie or I Love Barbara tattoo on
my right arm. Tell us whatthe tattoo festival is because it's not ink.

(36:37):
It is not ink on your skin. In Edinburgh, Scotland during the
summer in August, do you havethe Royal Military Tattoo Festival, which is
the pageantry is an unbelievable spectacle ofhearing just it is unbelievable. This is
where it's honoring their military tradition. And as an army brat, my father's

(36:58):
retired Army major, I really appreeseeing that right and then it's just a
magical time to be in Scotland andwhat it is it focuses a lot on
bagpipes, bag pipes of drummers.Yes, and we're not talking one or
two. You got like a wholefootball field and the different groups that come
in and it's it's completely over thetop. We're speaking with Mary Lee,

(37:22):
the sales manager for the the Yes, and we've got about thirty seconds.
You have a special so this iswhere we do have a big tour sale
that's currently going on where you couldsave up to twenty percent on select trips
on most of our brands. Ifyou have traveled with us before, you
can save up to twenty five percentif you attend the Morris Columbus show.

(37:45):
This is where you can save onehundred dollars per traveler. And I'm going
to tell you and that's an exclusiveand that is an exclusive show offer by
attending the Morris Columbus Show. Sowe hope to see you here. This
is where you can get some greatand thank you so much for having me.
Thank you Mary Lee with the TravelCorporation, Brendan and Trafalgar and others,

(38:07):
thank you so much. Thank you. Hey, when we come back
for our number two, we've gotsome more guests. We'll be heading all
over the world here on the TravelShow. Welcome back to the Travel Show,

(38:29):
the second Hour, the best twohours in radio. I'm Larry gelwi's
the Getaway Guru, broadcasting live fromthe Utah Travel Expo. We're here today
until five o'clock at the Expo atlocated at the Mountain America Expo Center in
Sandy. Now, as I've beentelling you, this is a ticket and
event. It's just six bucks perticket. However, for all of our

(38:52):
Travel Show listeners, and I certainlywant you, we have free tickets.
Save the six bucks. That's aMcDonald's chief and a Diet Coke and that
would so when you go there toMcDonald's just say hey, here's to you,
Larry. But the free tickets areMorris Columbus dot com forward slash Free.
That's Morris Columbus dot com Forward slashfree. And you can print as

(39:15):
many tickets as you want, friends, family, neighborhood, whatever that You've
got right there. Hey, listen, we are right at the entrance as
you come in for the next personthat comes up and says to me,
Hey, I want some free icecream. I've got a gift certificate at

(39:36):
the sub Zero ice Cream. They'vegot several locations here in Utah, and
I'd be happy to extend that toyou. So just drop by and say
I want free ice cream. Thatyou know they make it with that liquid
nitrogen. It's made you pick yourflavor. They make it right in front
of you. It's absolutely fantastic.I'd like to welcome to the Travel Show.

(39:59):
I shouldn't say welcome back to myfriend Dana McCullough, business development manager
for a Princess Cruises the Love Boat. Dana, welcome back to the Travel
Show. Thank you so much. It's a pleasure to be here, and
I hope people come running up toget that sub Zero they're actually here at
the show too, which is didyou have a sample? I'm doing that
today. Been fantastic. Yeah, our pizza's not here though. We always

(40:22):
talk about pizza. Listen, thereare so many things I love about Princess
Cruises, but I gotta tell you, no kidding, the best pizza on
any cruise line. It's a realpizza Rea, Yes, with a big
brick oven. It comes out theseeighteen inch pies. You know, they

(40:42):
say with Julikah slice And I said, no, I'd like several pies.
I completely agree. I couldn't agreemore. So listen, Uh, Princess
Cruises, where do you sail?I say where there's a body of water?
We sail just about anywhere much everywhere. Yeah, And I have all
of the information over at my tableat the front of the show. Really

(41:06):
really looking forward to talking to people. Please come over and say hello,
what current promotions do you have?Right now? We have a promotion going
on where it's up to forty percentoff and also third and fourth guests or
complimentary so it is voyage specific. So any of the Morse agents can give
you more details on that as agreat offer. Is there any family or
age requirement of the third or fourthfree. No. So I actually booked

(41:30):
myself and three of my girlfriends andthey're grown ups like me for the most
part, and they got complimentary becausethey were third and fourth. I think
you just paid the taxes on thefree cruise, correct, Yes, now
you know. One of the otherthings I really love about Princess is your
air program Easy Air. Yeah, our air program is wonderful. We have
flexible Air which is very similar towhat you would book yourself as far as

(41:52):
cost, and we also have theRestricted Air, which is our contracted air.
So I always tell people to checkboth and get the best possible Gilia.
You know, there's a lot ofreally good cruise choices out there,
certainly Princess right at the top.But with so many good choices, why
Princess. I've been in the businessa very long time. I was a

(42:15):
travel agent for many years and Isold Princess pretty much my go to cruise
line. We also have the Medallionwhich has started which is well. Let
me the medallion, I'll have yourcomment on it. Traditionally, you get
like a credit card key, Imean about that size. You slip it
in and out the door. Youhit it. When you get off the

(42:35):
ship you want to buy something, they take it. But you have a
medallion. I always wear it ona lanyard. Yeah, that's right,
about the size of a quarter yep. Explain the medallion program. So it's
basically the same as the key card, except you're doing everything in an app.
So when you get to the tothe port to board the ship,
everything is already done. You don'thave to swipe your credit card, take

(42:55):
a photo. All that have thosesuper long lines. You do not have
the You tap your medallion on alittle pad there and they say, I
have a great cruise in You're done. You know what's really kind of fun
is is I'm walking up to mycabin door. When I'm about ten feet
away or something, it opens orunlocks the door for me. Yes.

(43:16):
Yeah, it's the great way togo. I always have coffee or my
hands full of stuff to hear thedoor click. I can just use my
back and get right into my cabin. It's pretty awesome. Talk to me
about the entertainment that one can expecton belod So we have a lot of
Broadway type shows. We also havesome specialty things. We had some eighties
cruises which were all eighties like tributebands Journey bon Jovi, absolutely phenomenal.

(43:42):
We have some beetle stuff that goeson. It just depends on the voyage
that we do have a specific flyerthat talks about our theme cruises in that
way. So speaking of the eighties, my kids said to me a while
back, said, Mom and Dad, and they're all adults. Now your
house is so eighties. I likethe eighties. I love the eighties,
the eighties music and all the eighties, as might cam. Do you have

(44:07):
a this is just a personal Imean, wherever you cruise, it's a
great experience. Do you have apersonal favorite. So I've been to Alaska
fourteen times, so I kind ofthink Alaska's my favorite. Yeah, let
me talk about some of the programsand invite your comments. Sure that I
will be personally hosting Aboard a Princesscruise first of all Alaska this summer.

(44:29):
It's July thirteenth to the twentieth, and I absolutely love this itinery it's what
I call round trip Seattle sail. From return to we'll visit Juno, Catcha
Cans, Skagway, and Victoria,British Columbia, and then the granddaddy of
them all, Glacier Bay. GlacierBay is the hot ticket. You definitely

(44:50):
want to look at an Alaska itinerythat goes to Glacier Bay. And why
would you They don't want a cruisewith you, why not go into this
July when they can get you onboard and all that. For one of
the things we do, we haveprivate events, private gatherings exclusive to our
group, some special discounts. Now, if Alaska this year July thirteenth,
the twenties, I'd love to haveyou with me. We have so much

(45:12):
fun. I'm also doing a differentAlaska next year twenty twenty five, in
August August twenty third to September third. I love that late August September third,
we can see fall foliage. Andalso there's a good chance to see
the Northern lights. Now there's noguarantee, you know, with the northern

(45:34):
lights or anything, but it's avery good chance. And if you I
mean that is almost a spiritual experienceto see the northern lights. Now here's
how it's different. We're going tosail what I call the North South Route
Vancouver to Anchorage or vice versa. But we're going to start in Vancouver,
sail to Ankarridge, visiting Juno,Ketchikan, Skagway, Glacier Bay, and

(45:58):
then a personal favorite see on thenorth South. You generally get two glacier
days. Correct on the round tripSeattle one. They both do the inside
passage. Talk to me about CollegeFjord. I wish and let me talk
to you about it. You know, you're in a fjord, which is
a unique experience. Yeah, whichis a unique experience. And in that

(46:25):
College Fjord you will see thirteen differentglaciers. Thirteen glaciers right there. Now
there's a lot more on the otherside of the mountain, but you can
see thirteen in a matter of hours. And you have this beautiful fjord experience
carved out by glaciers millenniums ago.Now they call it College Feord because they've

(46:47):
named each of the floors. There'sthe Harvard Fjord, excuse you, Harvard
Glacier, the Yale, the Columbia. I am waiting for a University of
Utah or BYU Utah State. Okay, uh, you taught tech Idaho State.
I'm waiting for one. Maybe wewill name it there you go and
I'll put a little sign there, and then we go up to Anchorage and

(47:12):
there we have an option talk tome about the Denali. We take a
dome train. I believe, yes, up to Denali. I still think
of as Mount McKinley, but we'restaying these lodge talk to us about Denali.
So the lodges are spectacular, theirprincess own. There's five lodges up
there. Denali is our flagship. It's about six hundred rooms right on the
river. I'm doing a presentation atabout one point thirty here at the show

(47:36):
that we'll really focus on the cruisetour, which is what that is called.
If you are into photography, hiking, if you've been to Alaska and
just on the cruise, I highlyrecommend doing the rail, the full dome
car, so going through the mountains. Not only that, but it is
absolutely beautiful, absolutely beautiful dunning.Yeah, it's jaw dropping beautiful. It's
something not to mess well, I'dlove to have you join me. Uh.

(47:58):
The other one that I should mentioned, I'm so excited about it,
and you said you're getting a lotof interest at your booth is May sixth
to the sixteenth next year. TheEmpire of Japan and Korea. We see.
We spend three days in Tokyo seeingeverything. With a free day you
can go to Disneyland, the Ginsof the LDS Temple, and then we

(48:19):
bored at Yokohama and we really seeall of Japan except the northern island of
Hokkaido, but includes it includes Toba, Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Shimizu,
the Japanese Outs and Mount Fuji, all of these, and then we
go over to Pusan, South Korea. Amazing. And then one other one

(48:44):
in February. It's Australia to NewZealand. I'll talk more about that later
in the show, but it's Australia, Tasmania and all over including the Lord
of the Rings country in New Zealand. Well, thank you very much.
Data McCullough, business to Development Directorfor Princess Cruises, Thank you so much.

(49:04):
Has a great day. Back toyour booth. Hey, we got
more here on the Travel Show. You're listening to the Travel Show on Talk
Radio one oh five nine knrs.Just listen and you'll know you're listening to
the Travel Show. I'm Larry Gelwicksto get Away Guru, broadcasting live from

(49:29):
the Utah Travel Expo. Here. We'll be here till five o'clock today at
the Mountain America expos Center in Sandy. Now, this is a ticketed event
six bucks. It's a cheeseburger friesat McDonald's. However, for our Travel
Show listeners, we have free tickets, so you can still have the burger
and fries. Just go to thiswebsite morriscolumbus dot com forward slash free.

(49:54):
That's Morriscolumbus dot com forward slash free. I'd like to welcome, I should
say, back to the Travel Showone of my dearest friends, Dan Hone,
I consider the smartest man on theplanet for things regarding the Holy Land.
He is too humble to accept thatsalutation. Humility, of course,

(50:15):
a character trait I've never been accusedof. Hey, you know, we've
been the best friends for fifty yearsand he's still speaking to me. Hey,
Dan, welcome here to the TravelShow. Of course, you primarily
focus on the Middle East, theHoly Land, which is much more than

(50:36):
just Israel. That's right. TheHoly Land includes all those areas of the
scriptures of the Bible what we usuallyrefer to as significant lands. I to
be living on Syria, Jordan,Egypt, and even some of the Turkey
and some of the Greek isles inRome. Yeah, you know, in
the Bible, it seems to methat there's almost as much history in Jordan

(51:02):
then there is in Israel. Wealways think it's all Israel. It's not.
I mean, Israel, of courseis very important. You have Jerusalem,
Calvary, Golgatha, the Sea ofGalilee, Transfiguration. There's like just
as much in Jordan. That's absolutelycorrect. And do you realize not only
Moses and Joshua and others in thecrossing from that area, the tribes of

(51:27):
Reuben, the tribes of God,the tribes of Nanassa, and you know
where Elijah comes from, the tribeof God, and that's where he hit
out. And actually the streams there, some of the places I visit is
still the same name as it wasin the days of Elijah in the eighth
century BC ninth century BC, andyou can still visit, no shrines or
anything there. In addition to that, the Savior himself Bethany beyond Jordan or

(51:52):
beth Bara talking about beyond Jordan meaningthe Jordan River, meaning the Jordan River.
You know what you know. Oneof my favorite stories is John chapter
eleven, The Raising of Lazarus, which I won't go through here. Dan
and I host Holy Lands together.Of course, Dan's background founding member of
the BYU Jerusalem Center, thirty twoyears in the Department of Ancient Scripture at

(52:15):
Brigham Young University, and adjunct professorof History and Political Science at Utah Valley
University. And you lived there foralmost ten years, got your graduate degree
from an Israeli university. My graduatestudies included Hebrew and Coptic, Coptic being

(52:36):
one of the Egyptian religions and languages. And we're quite a yes, yes
you did. We're quite a duotogether. I like to say. Dan
says it's a joke. I said, you know, he gives the history
and the commentary, and I'm justa pretty face. That's not true.

(53:00):
You're when you do your takeaways, that's one of the most memorable parts of
the whole trip for many of thepeople. See what a takeaway is for
our listeners is it's one thing togo to historical site and know the history.
It's critically important, But what doesit mean? Does it? Like

(53:20):
in the scriptures? Unto ourselves whatdo I take away from this? You
know, what's the lessons? Howwill this help me in my family,
in my community, in my job, in my own personal life. That
is the takeaway. And you doan outstanding job well your kind. Another

(53:42):
thing is probably questions are going tocome. How safe isn't it there?
That's the number one question, SoDad, how safe is Israel? And
I'm excited to say, visiting withthe Ministry of Tourism yesterday and also with
people from the Ama tour or thee Meal Top that was just there,
one of the women who's just returnedback from there, I'm excited to say

(54:06):
that they're planning April first of Aprilto open up all the tourism again.
Have the airlines all coming already fiveairlines are doing trips there. They want
to open all the rest. Youcan go there now there are actually some
people over there. And now peopledon't realize that Gaza. If you know
what Utah Lake is like, it'stwenty four miles long and thirteen miles wide.

(54:27):
Gaza is twenty five miles long andit's only at its maximum seven and
a half miles wide. Generally itfits about five miles wide and quite frankly,
no tourists ever go to Gaza. No, we're so far away as
far as the world goes. Welearn about Gaza through US news faster than
we did in Jerusalem. With alldue respect to the news organizations. I

(54:52):
remember what it is like thirty yearsago the flooding in Salt Lake City.
If you want the national news, the whole city was floating away. There
were some sand bags and about twoinches of water running down the states.

(55:12):
I don't want to minimize the problemsthere, but it's for those on the
ground. It's much different with that. So when are the programs that you
are taking? Just you? Andthen this October you and I are tabulate.
What do you got going this year? Well, I'm going to go
to Jordan first on April thirtieth, and then I'll be going to Israel for

(55:37):
our typical tour of twelve. It'sso comprehensible, you know, I gotta
say, but Jordan is an option, and then the Holy Land Israel tour.
One of the things that's unique iseverybody goes to the Western Wall,
everybody goes to the Sea of Glly, and those are important. But what
we add in our Morris Columbus programswith all of our directors, and also

(56:01):
certainly Dan Hone is the extra ordiny. Let me give you a couple of
examples. We have a Jewish collegeprofessor Orthodox PhD. That comes in and
talks to us one evening about therole of women in Judaism. In Orthodox
Judaism, we may have a rabbicome in. We may have a Palestinian

(56:22):
mayor come in. We rotate thesenow they're in the evening, so they're
optional. Nobody else does that,No, not that I know of.
One of the things too. OnTuesday. My name is Dan Hone at
gmail dot com. Down now,that's d A. N n. And
on Tuesday evening I'll be doing azoom seminar. If you want that,

(56:44):
go ahead and write on my emailand I'll send you for a zoom seminar
that talks about the current situation.Dan Hone at Gmail. Very good,
well, thank you, Dan.We have more coming off on the travel
show. We're gonna be talking toViking cruisers. You'll lend into the travel

(57:13):
show. I'm Larry Gelwicks, theMahalarian travel the Getaway Guru himself, broadcasting
live from the Utah Travel Expo locatedat the Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy.
Now we're still going to be herefor about four and a half hours.
The Travel Show comes to a conclusionat five o'clock today, and you
want to stop buy exclusive, exclusiveat discounts and programs. We have over

(57:39):
one hundred travel vendors, including VikingCruises. These are airlines, cruise lines,
safari companies, tour companies, hotelsand resorts. But we're talking right
now to Reiner Marx, who isthe business development manager Director of business development

(58:00):
for Viking Cruises. Now I shouldsay welcome back to the show. Right.
You know, you sail both onthe rivers where you got your start
and you branched out to ocean whereOcean cruises with Viking. Where do you
sail? We sell the whole worldover four hundred. Wherever there's a body
of water, you put a puddleof water, we probably put a ship

(58:22):
in there. That's right now onthe river cruises. Where do you sail
in Europe and then elsewhere in theworld. Absolutely no our core product,
you know, just these sailings thatare for many many you're super successful as
the Ryan, the Danube, theeight days is the fifteen days on the
Grand European. Of course, Franceis very very strong for Viking. You

(58:45):
have the exotics such as Portugal,Egypt, Vietna, Porchugo. You mentioned
Vietnam and Portugal. Yes, theyhave just skyrocket interest this year. I
was just with a group a landwho are in Vietnam November. We got
some people this summer group going toPortugal. Those are kind of off the

(59:08):
radar. They are, they are, and there's no reason why. You
know, there's a super beautiful itinerariesdestinations. It's actually a land tour,
a cruise tour, you know whereyou try and start on in Lisbon to
a bus tour to Coimbra, thentransfer over to Porto and then you start
your river crews up into Salamanca inSpain. Oh my god. You can

(59:30):
even extend to into other ports.Santiago to Compostela is along the way,
so really amazing stops along the way. That is absolutely fantastic. Now you
mentioned the Danube, and interestingly there'sreally two Danube cruises, what I call
the North South, which is Budapest, Germany and Austria. You stop in

(59:54):
Slovakia. Yeah, I love tostop in Solakia, brought to Lava.
But then talk to me about onethat's not well known, but I think
maybe my favorite itinerary. It's theeast West Budapest to book rest Or vice
versa. Yes, we actually addedsome ports there, so Bookerist to Budapest

(01:00:16):
is behind the Iron curtains. Soyou go back in history, yes,
old Europe, and when we sayold Europe, it's fifty years back behind
the Iron curtain. But also there'sexcavation sites that go back six thousand years
where the first Europeans are. Youknow what seeing is Hungary, what Serbia,

(01:00:37):
Croatia, Croatia and Romania. AbsolutelyAnother one is our capitals of Eastern
Europehere you spent overnights in those bigabsolutely fantastic trip from Vienna to Constantinople,
absolutely amazing. So it's a littlelonger. Yeah, what is the demographic
of a Viking cruise passenger? Onaverage, the Viking clients are in the

(01:01:01):
sixties around sixties the average age. They are interested in culture, in art,
in music, in the culinary world. They're interested in learning and meeting
the people in the destination. Sothat's kind of outlining who the Viking client
is. Yeah, and now youare adults only? Is that both ocean

(01:01:21):
and river? That's correct? Andthat an adult means eighteen years of age.
Oh, I haven't met many eighteenyear olds. I'd call it an
adult, but we'll go with thatnumber right now. You mentioned some of
the popular rivers. You do thesin also up to Normandy out of Paris.
Absolutely amazing. I'll let us tellyou. You get there to d

(01:01:44):
Day Beaches, yes, and thecemetery it is a moving I mean it
will put you to tears. Therewasn't a dry eye. We do our
tribute at the American Cemetery where weput down the reeds and flowers. It
is so moving. There's not asingle dry eye when we're up there.
What are your most popular ocean cruises? You know, we have a very

(01:02:06):
strong representation in the Mediterranean, soBarcelona, Vienna's Barcelona Rome. We can't
go wrong, cannot go wrong. You do the cruises from Venice down to
Athens. I mean so many differentitineraries. The Scandinavian cruisers are also very
very popular. The British Isle Explorerthat goes from Bergen and Norway all the

(01:02:29):
way down to oh so beautiful.Hey, let's say we've got about one
minute left with Ryder, Mark's businessdevelopment director with Viking Ocean and River Cruises,
talk to me about very briefly Antarcticaand two domestic USA. Yes,
Antarctica has been has becoming very popularwith its Viking. We have two new

(01:02:50):
ships Arc Tundus and Polaris that sailinto Antarctica out of Yushuaya. Very very
popular, brand new, beautiful ships. And these ships actually also go into
the Great Lakes in the off season, so they sail up the coastline and
in the Antarctic winter. Were onthe Great Takes. Now you're doing Mississippi.
Yes, Tom Sawyer where we seehim and hut Fell Mark Twain's footprints.

(01:03:12):
Absolutely, yes, we do allof that well. Reiner Mark's business
development director with Viking Cruises. Thankyou for joining us here on the Travel
Show. My pleasure. Hey,we were talking earlier. And by the
way, the next person that comesup to me here at the Travel Show
radio booth, right as you walkin the doors on the right, I've
got a gift certificate for free icecream at sub zero that's the one they

(01:03:37):
make it right in front of you. Pick your ingredients, you pick your
flavors and with the liquid nitrogen theymake it right there. Love to have
you know. We were talking earlierwith the Tourism Authority of Thailand and I
wanted to mention I do an annualgroup that typically I keep it to this

(01:03:58):
thirty six people. It's a deepin Thailand and Cambodia. It's a land
tour of culture, of food.We do all the ordinary things like the
Grand Palace. You know, thereare some destinations around the world that if
you went all that way, likethe taj Mahal in Agur, India,
where I will be in November,it's worth the trip. If that was

(01:04:23):
the only thing you saw, it'sso overwhelming. Of course you're gonna see
other things, but it would beworth the trip. The Grand Palace in
Bangkok is one of those places. If you went all the way to Thailand
and only saw the Grand Palace,it would be worthing. It's jaw dropping.

(01:04:44):
Of course we see more. Wevisit Bangkok, which is in the
Midlands, and then up north tochang Rai. Now that's right at the
convergence of Laos and now called Meand Mar. I still think of it
as Burma it's the Golden Triumph. It's the foothills of the Himalayas. No,
you won't see Mount Everest, butthe foothills roll up to the Himalayas.

(01:05:09):
Then we go to chang min Now, let me tell you something just
kind of out of the ordinary. Most people get on their tour bus and
drive from chang Rai to chang Mai. I would never do something like that.
We get in a long tail boat. It's called longtail. You put
about six people in it. It'scovered be decked with flowers and garlands.

(01:05:30):
It's called longtail because it has likea V six or a VA engine and
a long long drive shaft with thepropeller that they could lift up and down
out of the water and use itto turn and navigate all of that.
Hence that's the long tail. Weget in these boats along the Kulk River,
which goes to a national park, and we're on for about an hour,

(01:05:56):
absolutely virgin, unexplored territory. Thenwe get off the boat in a
hill tribe village and they're in themiddle of nowhere. Our bus picks us
up. We then go deeper intothe jungle and to a little resort.
Now, I met this guy fromSwitzerland years ago. He's a chef.
He married a Thaie woman and theyhave a little resort. Nothing around it.

(01:06:20):
It's literally in the middle of ajungle and it has like six little
cabanas there that you could stay overnight. We have lunch there and it's a
wonderful meal. Rhiners still sitting herenext to me. I'll tell you it
Rivals the Viking crew by the way, Viking Cruises just knocks it out of

(01:06:41):
the park in the dining room andthis he's patting his tummy, but they
put on it's a Western meal orEuropean meal. Then we continue on in
to chang My visit my favorite temple, Wat Doisu Tep. It's very interesting.
It's in a nash park. It'sthe gold temple. People say,
oh, Larry, it's got somegold. No, you're not listening.

(01:07:03):
It is gold and it's an activeworking temple. We go there, the
Buddhist priest will give us a blessingand it's on the top of a mountain.
We're going back to the thirteenth century. A monk came from Sukkotai,
which is kind of halfway between Bangkokand Changmi. And brought to the king

(01:07:26):
the collar bone of Lord Buddha, purportedly the collar bone of Lord Buddha,
which dates back to the sixth centuryBC, and the king broke it in
half. He put one in atemple and fastened the other part of the
collar bone to a white albino elephant, which is considered sacred. They revere

(01:07:50):
the elephants, but a white elephantis completely off the charge. It's a
sacred animal. And they put itthere and let it wander through the jungle,
wander up and down four hills, and they got to the top of
this one mountain, trumpeted loudly threetimes and keeled over dead. And they

(01:08:13):
took this as a sign from theheavens that wa doys soutep dating back to
the thirteenth century. What is thetie word for temple? For those in
Salt Lake City, there's an LDStemple, the Salt Lake Temple. It
would be called wat Salt Lake. That's the word for temple. And they
built this temple and it's been anactive temple through all of these centuries.

(01:08:35):
Well, these are some of thethings that we do now we limit it
to just thirty six people it's adeep dive. I don't want a convention.
We opened it up for sale yesterdayhere at the expo one third,
so about twelve people yesterday have alreadysigned up. As I said, it

(01:08:56):
typically sells out in February. Thenwith the waiting list. I like to
do it in January because that's thebest weather. Yes, we're in the
tropics. But November to February andif you want a great may Cong cruise
with Viking, those are the monthsthat I prefer. Go in July.
A lot of cruise companies don't evendo the May Cong in July. Stay

(01:09:17):
home, stick your head in anoven and you'll have the same experience as
Southeast Asia in July it's crazy. But November to February, that's when you
want to do a Maykng cruise withViking Cruise. But join me. The
dates are January the third through theeighteenth, and then for an option to

(01:09:39):

(01:12:40):
to thirty six one third sold outyesterday. We just announced it yesterday.
This is my signature travel experience, the one that I'm the most proud of.
And I just got back from Thailand, what five days ago, And
in early February, I'll be leavingwith the another Travel Show group on one

(01:13:01):
of the most exciting itinerans. We'reflying to Bali. We'll spend three days
there at a five star over thetop resort right on the beach. Then
board a Norwegian cruise line and we'regoing to visit Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore,
Vietnam, and Thailand. That's beena couple of days in Thailand,

(01:13:25):
so I will have been in Thailandin January and February. I probably have
a business trip there in early June. I don't recommend tourism to Southeast.
Days in June, I'm attending somemeetings. It's actually a pretty good gig.
Listen to this one. They havean annual the Tourism Authority of Thailand,

(01:13:45):
the International Bureau, has a annualinternational travel conference. It's massive,
absolutely massive, and they've asked meto participate. In fact, they asked
me to participate every year. SoI go over there in June, not
my favorite time of the year, but I go over there in June and

(01:14:08):
they pay my airfare, my hotel, my meals, all of that,
and it gives me a good reasonto go back to Thailand. I want
to mention a couple of the programsthat I will be personally hosting. One
that really catches my attention is aAlaska cruise. Now I take a group

(01:14:31):
to Alaska. We do our ownprivate shore excursions off the boat, and
we do excuse me, activities onboard that are exclusive. I'll be your
personal host and tour guide. We'llbe sailing round trip with Princess Cruises round
trip from Seattle. We'll visit Juno, catch A, can Skagway, and

(01:14:55):
Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. And then of course we're sailing the inside
Passage and visiting the granddaddy glacier ofthem all, Glacier Bay National Park.
And you know, we get upclose and personal with a glacian. We
usually see some calving. That's whenthe wall of the glacier falls into the
oceans. Absolutely spectacular. July thirteenthto the twentieth. We still have some

(01:15:21):
space available again. You can driveto Seattle, make a holiday of it.
You can fly up there July thirteenthof the twentieth. I will be
your personal host and tour guide inAlaska. Now, a couple of other
ones I want to talk about inthe next segment is I'll be taking a

(01:15:42):
cruise group with It's a cruise inland in February. I got to talk
now because it's the end of theshow. Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand.
