four nh Town.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Good morning, and welcome to a Tuesday edition of The
Matt Thomas Show with Ross from Atlanta. This is Sports
Talk seven ninety Thompson for the baseline.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
Right bamble to his left, Dylan three pointer. He's trying
to one man gang this basketball game for the Rockets
one on one ninety two, dealing with thirty three nine
three pointers. Career high for him in the NBA is
thirty seven. You might have to get that here. And
if the Rockets are gonna pull this game out, Pritchard
(00:41):
out left side of three pointer, flock by a man, Tempson,
and he saved it up a sideline to Jalen Green
right side of the floor. Wait for teammates. Now he
may take it himself. Kicks it out left side the
Brooks straight away to a man. A man slides it
into shed Goon, lost the ball between his legs, hands
it back to a man for first lay. Oh my goodness.
(01:02):
He lifted over the right shoulder and the Rockets had
the lead. Thank you, Amen, Thompson. Thirteen straight for the Rockets.
Mine goodness. Family. The layout of basketball eleven forty seconds remaining.
Babley give it the shack gun who timed it down.
Won a pass in the middle of the lane. Cornett
(01:23):
got behind him, help me with the right hand. Thrown
down and Houston takes the lead. Won twelve to one,
ten ten point three seconds left to go. Another abount
for Mambley to him and Thompson Davilade euro step for
the win.
Speaker 4 (01:39):
He got it with seven tenths of a second.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
He hit the five footer gathering Pritchard launches to end
the game.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
It's so good off the top of the backboard and
the Rockets win it in Boston, right down the middle
of the lane.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
It's a game winner.
Speaker 4 (01:59):
For a man and another huge road Rocket sweat.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
Oh my goodness, just another Monday and Monday night in
Boston for sports fans of Houston teams. As your local
basketball squad has put together quite a resume of victory.
Ten oh seven Sports Talk seven ninety It is the
Matt Thomas Show with Ross Rossi is back in Houston.
(02:32):
Please tell me you have people call your show last night.
Please tell me they were excited about it?
Speaker 5 (02:38):
Are you talking about the Rockets? Ram here on Sports
Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
I'll have to call it the Rossville Rial Show.
Speaker 5 (02:45):
Plus, you know, Dan Matthews says a fair amount of them.
We appreciate him for that. I don't now don't pitch him,
and that's fine. You're calling the game, so that's okay.
And you know, the morning guys gotta get up. But
I do a fair amount of them, and I enjoyed
doing them. And at one point, matt we had a
calling the biz a full board of gus.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
Yes, no way.
Speaker 5 (03:05):
Interest is up, folks, Rockets. Twitter is humming, people are
buying in the league is unnoticed. Houston is starting to
garner more interest because the Rockets are legit.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
Look and again, we're not gonna over sell something. But
all we're gonna do is, you know, we're gonna do Rossie.
We're gonna, you know, always do we always do properly
rated overrated under can past sell this team? I would
say go ahead. I just don't want I mean, I
don't want to be like other people in with other
teams in this town. Oh, the Tuxas beat the Dolphins.
Let's get into a five day conversation about that. I mean, look,
(03:43):
NBA basketball is different than football. You don't live on
one game for a week. Tonight, the Rockets can play
at Line and lose by twenty five and would be like,
there we go again. So we're gonna properly love on
the team, which is put together an amazing January with
one high quality win after another on the road at
Denver and a Grand that was known the Coda. Yoki,
(04:04):
you know, Aaron Gordon, you beat up on trying to
think who we've played. We've been playing on the road
forever here twice. You beat Boston yesterday.
Speaker 5 (04:15):
You've beaten Memphis three nothing in the season.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
That's right, you got them coming up on Thursday. This
team is the second best record in the West and
the third best record in the NBA or fourth whatever.
I'm a little uh.
Speaker 5 (04:30):
It's third best in the NBA now that they beat
the Celtics. Yeah, yeah, yeah, every team in the top
four they've beaten, well, every other team in the top four.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
Men, it's not like it's loaded full of wizards and
wins against you know, the second tier groups. It's not.
You know, the Grand they have beaten Hey, they've beaten
the Wizards. They have beaten the Wizards. Everybody beats the whiz.
Speaker 5 (04:51):
That's true. But that's what they're supposed to do. They're
supposed to beat the bad teams and then play pretty
well against the good teams. And they're doing it.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
Yeah, it's been good and it was fun life last night.
Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown were out there. Uh, Peyton
Pritchard tried to win the game by himself on a
couple of different occasions.
Speaker 5 (05:08):
Luke Cornett was unstoppable.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
Luke Cornett, And it's funny. I kind of haphastuately threw
him into our pregame visit with im A Dooka talking
about some of the bench players, and he was I said, look,
you know, guys like Luke Cornett and Peyton Pritchard can
cause some issues. And you know, I may knew Peyton
Pritchard as a kid because he was in a group
in Oregon and EMA was involved obviously in the high
school scene in Portland where he's from. He didn't bring
(05:31):
up Luke Cornett. Luke Cornette first of all, is seven foot.
I don't know how it is. He's a monster.
Speaker 5 (05:37):
Seven point one is what is listed as.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
And then porzingis is seven to two, yes, and porzingis
is like flipping three pointers in the first quarter like
their layups. Thankful he got and felt trouble. Thankful he did.
But I felt like he was going to score fifty
points in the first quarter. He took his first two
three pointers, Russie, he took off on the other of
the four before the ball went through the net. That's
(06:01):
how commony.
Speaker 5 (06:02):
Yeah, they were running picking pops with him and our
good friend Albrin Shangoon isn't great and getting out on
the perimeter on pick and pops.
Speaker 3 (06:08):
No, it's no. There is some work defensively for Alp.
He's still in his career. If he can get to
he's improved. Yeah, I was gonna say, keep improving. How
about that? Is that? Fa? I mean, early on his
career was frankly a sieve and everybody scored on him.
But he's getting better. He's stilling the ball a little
(06:28):
bit more. He's getting better. There's the pick and pops
are still an issue at this point. But you know what,
then you have Dylan Brooks. I mean, no one would
put Dylan Brooks and Steph Curry the same conversation until yesterday.
I mean, my goodness, ten three pointers.
Speaker 5 (06:44):
That was awesome and the Rocket. I mean we made
him MVP of the gamer most what we call player
of the game last night, Matt because Rockets aren't anywhere
close to that game without Dalman Thompson was spectacular, but
without that performance from Dylan Brooks, Rockets might lose by fifteen.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
Yeah. He was hitting just about everything on the floor.
It was a lot of fun. I personally had a
great time calling it. Boston's a great place, friends, and
I know that we don't. We hate the established teams
and we hate the Northeastern bias and whatnot. That that
Boston crowd was alive. It was shell shocked for much
of the game because the game was going back and
(07:20):
forth so many different directions. But that's loud. They get
into it. They're in their seats before tip time. They've
got banners galore over the place. Every other number is
retired by that organization. That was a quality win yesterday.
I mean, you have beaten three. You get three wins
against two of the five best teams in the NBA
(07:40):
just in the last week.
Speaker 5 (07:41):
Yeah, I think they're making a statement to everyone and
the league is on watch. A lot of the NBA
writers and pundits that I follow. They're they're all in
and talking about it mostly a men Thompson and this
this is Rockets team and coach you doak in the
job that he's done. I would say right now, just
from what I'm seeing, coach you Doka is the favorite
for Coach of the Year.
Speaker 3 (08:00):
Yeah, I mean, maybe Deagnel gets it in Oklahoma City
because they're gonna probably win sixty five games in that
Atkinson Kenny Atkinson's done a nice job in Cleveland for sure,
But you're gonna go.
Speaker 5 (08:10):
From he got swept by Amadoka though yeah he did.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
You might go from forty one wins of a year
ago to maybe mid fifties, mid to upper fifties, which
I can't believe. I mean, I literally can't believe this.
And we talked about this yesterday. You know, when Adam
Clinton goes to buy a jersey if a particular player,
you know that player is hot because.
Speaker 5 (08:31):
I mean, or they just exist.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
Adam's the bandwagony ist of bandwagony people.
Speaker 5 (08:36):
We know, right, I was gonna say, they might just
have a professional contract and then Clinton goes and gainst
their jersey felt personal.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
Of course, Carson won't be able to pay for college
now because of all the jerseys his dad buys. But
that's not here North there.
Speaker 5 (08:48):
That could be his high school graduation gift. See what
you can get for these?
Speaker 3 (08:53):
Yeah, he should will them to his son and say, hey,
whatever money you get off of these bad now. Granted
he won't be getting a lot of money off of
his is Damien Pierce jersey, but he's working on it.
Speaker 5 (09:04):
That's okay, but there'll be a niche market for it.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
Aman Thompson is so freakish athletic. He's such a good kid.
He doesn't even turn twenty two till this week. I mean,
it's I mean, my gosh. The only thing he doesn't
do is hit from the perimeter on a regular basis,
But everything else ross he does is fantastic.
Speaker 5 (09:24):
What do you mean, Matt fIF from three last night.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
With one of two? Yes, all right, I literally don't
the box score. We didn't get here to the hotel
of three fifteen. This morning, I'm a little just trying
to literally wake up and get everything set up. But
maybe fine, get some coffee. I've already had three cups
this morning. Really, I'm trying. I had non decap, I
had a non decaf teaing this breakfast. I had a
(09:48):
decaf tea on the plane from Boston to Atlanta yesterday
because I was like, if I drink one more cup
of calf and I'll never sleep. And I had a
terrible night sleep. I'm bound a little bit of a cold.
But it's all right, it's fun. This is a great thing.
I'm loving life. It's great that people are having a
buzz about the team and we're here for now again.
We got the things to get to Russie when we
come back. We also got to get into are we
(10:09):
really does Braggy really falling on this thirty million dollar
beer bit? Is that what I'm hearing back home?
Speaker 5 (10:13):
I don't know. We can get into that. Okay, one
more click thing on the Rockets, Yeah please Shangoon four
of ten, Jalen Green three of thirteen, Fred van Vliet
two of nine, and they beat the Celtics on the road.
Yeah insane.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
Yeah, I mean and Jalen Green when he had that
compression tape on his eyes, yeah, I thought something was
really wrong with his face, like that looks odd.
Speaker 5 (10:36):
It's like, yeah, you didn't have an odd angle black
on his face.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
Thankfully it was Okay, now shooting touch wasn't there, So
now it's up to shanegoon and for jailing to each
score thirty five minight, because I'm sure Dylan's tired. Yeah,
for a man's like, man, I've been caring you all
the last couple of games. Can you can you all
help out a little bit? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (10:52):
Men, times have played forty two minutes. Let's go let
him rest.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
Everybody's taking a deep rest except tar Easan, uh you
or some wings last night. I'm like, damn, dude, it's
like two o'clock in the morning. It was three o'clock
in the morning.
Speaker 5 (11:04):
He'll be fine, He'll be fine. He's young.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
The wings, the wings are pretty good in town. Actually
all right? Uh ten to fifteen. It is the Matt
Thomas Show with Ross seven one three, two one two
five seven ninety quick texting from a buddy Ross. Does
Clinton own more jackets, leather jackets or sports jerseys.
Speaker 5 (11:22):
He's got more leather jackets than them. There are cold
days in a year in Houston.
Speaker 6 (11:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
Yeah, it's like he's an older bro, bro, you know
what I mean. We love him for it though he's
a senior bra. That's what he is. Ten fifteen, Sports
Talk seven ninety is the Matt Thomashell Ross, come in
and join us today at seven one three two one
two five seven ninety seven one three two one two
five seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (11:43):
This is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross on Sports
Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
Ten twenty Sports Talk seven ninety The Matt Thomas Show
Today from Atlanta, where the Rockets will take out the Hawks.
They play the did Atlanta last night in Minneapolis had
lost the Wolves, so both teams coming off the back
to back. This was a game that was originally scheduled
for a couple of weeks back, but we had the
snow here in Atlanta, so we're back here for that.
Rockets will be off tomorrow, then take on the Grizzlies
on Thursday. Home back for a Saturday night game against
(12:16):
the Brooklyn Nets. Seven one three two point two five
seven ninety is how you reach our show today? Seven
to one to three two one two five seven nine zero.
I am more and more convinced ROSSI before I started
taking some phone calls and talking to people, the Rockets
can't mess this up. I don't. I don't think going
after anybody at this point would And then you could
(12:36):
certainly improve the team, but there'd be a huge chemistry
issue other spots of this team that concern you. I mean,
and you still want to shoot better. But they've been
shooting better this month in January. And if you're getting
somebody from the outside, whether it's Van Bleet one night,
Brooks the next, or Jalen Green, if the perimeter game
has been significantly better this month than it has been
probably in the first two months of the year.
Speaker 5 (12:56):
Yeah, it hasn't been an accident. They started making more
threes and they've been winning games and beating top competition.
Now how much Obviously we know we're not gonna get
ten threes a game from Dylan Brooks, but as you said,
it could be anybody. Fred van Vliet's been shooting a
lot better. Jalen Green, unfortunately, after that nine straight twenty
plus point performance, has kind of been up and down.
(13:16):
And then he took the hit in the eye last night.
As you mentioned, he was wearing compression tape under his eye.
It looked like it was hampering his vision. So I'm
really not gonna crush him for that performance last night.
He was gutting it out, So we'll see what happens
with that going along. But yef, if one or two
guys can make threes on a given night, Rockets are
gonna be fine because the defense is normally still there.
Speaker 3 (13:38):
It is, Yeah, and even though the scores may not
indicate it. I mean, today's NBA in terms of defense
is a lot different than it was, you know, twenty
years ago. Rosswer if you're in that one ten, one
twelve range, that's kind of average night. I mean, that's
you start getting into one twenties, you're gonna be in
a tough spot defensively. But the Rockets don't do that
a whole lot.
Speaker 5 (13:56):
So yeah, and there look, there's no defense for great
offense in the NBA. It's been like that forever with
Magie Johnson, Michael Jordan, you know, whoever. And so yeah,
there were some times where Jaln Brown, he went off
for twenty eight points last night, but there were times
where he was just making tough, contested shots and you're like,
you know what, Jaln Brown is just a special player.
That's just is what it is. They did a good
(14:17):
job of limiting Jason Tatum against the Cavaliers. They went
off for a lot of points as well, there were
some defensive lapses there, but also there was just sometimes
it's like especially like remember the beginning of that game.
It was like Donovan Mitchell had eight points and like
the first three trips down the floor and he was
just hot, and then Darius Carland just couldn't miss it.
Just it just happens. There's special players on the better
(14:37):
teams of the NBA, and it is what it is.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
Strange night for Jason Tatum. He doesn't score in the
first half, but only the second time in his NBA
career doesn't score in a half. Then he scores fifteen
by himself in the third quarter and then scores four
in the fourth. He played almost forty two minutes. He
had very little rest time.
Speaker 5 (14:54):
Yeah, he didn't muscle up him in Thompson on that
last drive of the game to tie it at one twelve.
Speaker 3 (15:00):
Yeah, but how about that dunk from Shngoon late after
the over compensated on that, allowing him to go one
a more with Cornett And that was fun to watch.
Speaker 5 (15:10):
That was great. He wanted him to run some clock,
but when you get a free run at the basket,
you go ahead and take it.
Speaker 3 (15:14):
Yeah, all right, let's talk to some people of Houston,
Texas about a variety of things, whether it be about
the Rockets game last night, the state of NBA basketball
in our community, which is excellent. Right now, they're now
thirty one and fourteen. We have a little bit of
a Bregman chatter to get to. We certainly have still
looking for a Texans offensive coordinator as they start looking
at some college prospects for that position. And uh, we
(15:38):
got NFL rewind today at twelve thirty. We have the
oh we have gut feelings at eleven thirty today and
the news at noons. We've got a lot to get
to today as we come do here from Atlanta seven
one three two one two five at seven ninety, let's
talk to Richard in League City. First up on the
Matt Tamashiel Ross. Richard, thank you for holding in.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
Good morning, Good morning, Yes, wow, what a game.
Speaker 7 (16:02):
Uh So, I'm a man of a certain age. I've
been a Rockets fan since a team spelled his name
with an ak and and I gotta say, like one
thing I love about this team, and this is kind
of a you know, I think I want to make my.
Speaker 8 (16:20):
Realistic pitch to those who still.
Speaker 9 (16:22):
Haven't come back yet.
Speaker 8 (16:23):
Who listen to sports talk radio but haven't really taken on.
Speaker 9 (16:26):
The Rockets as a team yet.
Speaker 3 (16:28):
Gone much Rockets fans having.
Speaker 7 (16:31):
This team just their play style and as a team
and individually they have more personality, I gotta say, than
any team since the championship years.
Speaker 8 (16:44):
It's like with that team. Something I loved about the
Championship year.
Speaker 7 (16:47):
Teams was each each of the players kind of added
something unique in their play.
Speaker 8 (16:54):
To the overall product.
Speaker 7 (16:55):
I mean, Hakeem was the cornerstone, but you know you
had Cassell, you had said you had Otis sort if
you had those guys in this team. And I've loved
every Rockets team since. I mean, I've got hard in jerseys,
I've got the T shirts, but that kind of three
is more than two. You know, looking back, spree kind
of boring and we liked it when we won.
Speaker 8 (17:15):
But this team. Something I really love about this team.
Speaker 7 (17:18):
Is each one of these players, besides having their own
individual personalities, their own play styles and the way they
mesh together and the way in May has created this
identity with this team, It's just fun to watch every night.
And one more thing, I'm so happy I'm in has
broken the thirty point ceiling.
Speaker 8 (17:38):
Because with young.
Speaker 7 (17:39):
Players, I'm always kind of afraid that they're gonna they're
gonna be too humble, They're gonna kind of play the
role player, They're gonna get used to kind of playing
their role. And you want the really talented ones to
learn what it feels like to taste like just to
like take over and get after it and just gobble
up as many points as you could. And I was
(18:00):
glad to see I'm in cross that thirty point threshold.
Speaker 8 (18:04):
And just the way he did it was so quiet.
Speaker 7 (18:06):
It was like I didn't even realize he had that
many points until he did. I mean, he was everywhere,
but it wasn't like Jason Tatum where you're kind of
keeping a ticker on how many points he's scoring in
the third. So just if you haven't gotten on the wagon,
you gotta get.
Speaker 6 (18:21):
On the wagon.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
Thank you Richard for the phone call. I appreciate it,
you know. And to the point of wagon, Look, we
are a finicky sports market, ROSSI I mean, I've.
Speaker 5 (18:30):
Lived here, lagers, front runners, I.
Speaker 3 (18:33):
Mean, we're tough here. We don't don't naturally embrace the team,
and in good times and bad when themes are bad,
we check out.
Speaker 5 (18:41):
That's okay stuff to do. No, I don't either. Oh no,
this team is losing one hundred You know people did
that although the Ashers are losing one hundred and twenty games.
You guys weren't there. Yeah, I wasn't there.
Speaker 3 (18:51):
Why was I gonna watch Brandon Barnes and the Boys
go lose eleven to one.
Speaker 5 (18:56):
I'm gonna go do something else in my time.
Speaker 3 (18:57):
If Butt Norris is my number one picture, I think
we're gonna be in trouble.
Speaker 5 (19:01):
Yeah, I'm gonna do something else with my summer. I'm
gonna go to Italy. I'm not gonna be sitting in
Mini mad Park. I'm sorry, dyking park now.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
Yeah. Yeah, But the only difference is that some other
established cities on again with generations of fans, Like if
the Celtics were to lose fifty games in earl four
or five years, it's still have a full house. Now
that they'd be pissed off in screaming at you and
saying this place is not wicked awesome. But but yeah,
we're we're definitely a you have to prove it over
(19:29):
the long termament, and we've had look three sixty loss
seasons followed by a forty one and forty one campaign,
and it's going to take a while. So as much
as I'm loving this, and I can only do so
much as a radio broadcaster, a talk show host, and
so but I can't. I'm not gonna take how to
spend your money. I'm gonna tell you how to watch.
But if you have been a basketball fan, and in
(19:49):
particular a Rockets fan, are ever any point in the
last I don't know, thirty years, they're worth coming back for.
This is legit. They're young, they're nice kids, rich kids,
but they're nice kids, and they're playing their asses off
and it's very fun because they're just not beating up
on you know, like you always. You know, in the NFL,
(20:09):
when a certain team wins like eleven or twelve games,
you go, oh man, they play a soop schedule. You
can't play a soop schedule in the NBA. You play
everybody the same amount of times, generally speaking, every year.
And this was going to be a very difficult slate
of games. Two games against Cleveland, who had the best
record in the NBA for a while. Then you had
to go to Boston. We had won in four previous years,
and you got your ass beat by the Celtics in
(20:30):
Tota Center a couple weeks back. This was not supposed
to be what I think people thought it was going
to be. With three of the most impressive wins all
coming in the last six days.
Speaker 5 (20:41):
Yeah, exceeding expectations, even mine. I was expecting them to
compete in all these games of win them all impressive.
Speaker 3 (20:47):
Yeah, all right, let's take a short time out. We'll
come back with more of your phone calls. Ten thirty
as a time we have got feelings at eleven thirty
today and that's where you make sports predictions will happen
for you. At twelve o'clock the News a noon, twelve
thirty twelve Rosses, NFL re Wan and of course, believe
it or not, to wrap the show up at one
fifty this afternoon seven one three two one two five
seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven
(21:08):
ninety with the word right now for the Love Volleyball.
L OVB is League one volleyball. And you know, if
you listen to the show for any length of time,
how much my family loves volleyball. My daughter will be
playing college in a couple of years. I'm very excited
about that, but she's also thinking about when could it
be fun to play professional volleyball? And that's what's happening
right now with a bran new league called League One Volleyball.
Check out l ovb dot com, l ovb dot com.
(21:30):
They're playing the four ben uh Centriplex over there in
the Richmond Rosenberg area and they've got a full sleight
of games coming up this season. And if you'd like
check out the schedule and check out what is luck
to watch former College All Americans, former international stars, former
Olympians play at the highest level. Then check out League
one Volleyball l ovb dot com, l ovb dot com
(21:53):
for Houston's pro volleyball team. Check it out right now
LVB dot com. We owe you an Alex Sprangman update.
We'll get that for you coming up in a few minutes.
We owe you a Texans offensive coordinator update. We'll get
you that as well. Uh and Ross Endless Kansas City,
(22:17):
Philadelphia preview between now and Super Sunday, which is coming
up in about twelve days.
Speaker 5 (22:21):
Sounds great.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
That's a radio show right there. Don't you feel like
if we're gonna talk kansasity football. We should have like
a Tailor Swift song in the background concerts. Oh no,
I didn't think so.
Speaker 5 (22:33):
I'm more worried about the football, not somebody that's gonna
be sitting in a luxury suite and get shown on
TV three times.
Speaker 3 (22:41):
What are the sweets like in the Super Dup. I've
ever been in one before?
Speaker 5 (22:44):
I don't know. Didn't they refit that bad boy recently?
Probably decent?
Speaker 3 (22:48):
Yeah, yeah, maybe she'll have an impromptu concert on Bourbon
Street one night.
Speaker 5 (22:55):
Uh, probably not. Maybe you throwing on I don't know
there's a venue that can hold her. Bourbon Street yeah,
be mass chaos? Uh literally, these are literally the super
Dome is might be even too small for her.
Speaker 3 (23:08):
Well, you know she played at the Superdome three straight nights.
I know it's in November, and I know you've.
Speaker 5 (23:13):
Been you've been funding all of her jumbo jet trips.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
Well, frankly, if I was to own stock in Taylor Swift,
I would probably own a couple of shares. I've bought
enough from her, that's true, tickets and whatnot.
Speaker 5 (23:23):
Well, I'm glad you could support her career, Matt.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
Well, that's what I'm here for Carly's room is full
of Taylor Swift stuff. She's got Taylor Swift gear, Taylor
Swift songs to two concerts under her belt, glacious, expensive
hotel stays. Actually one, she.
Speaker 5 (23:39):
Was and she's proud of her daddy.
Speaker 3 (23:42):
Yes she is.
Speaker 5 (23:43):
That was so sweet.
Speaker 3 (23:45):
Yeah, good kid, I've raised some good children. Well, Kim's
Kim's raised some good children. Yeah. One still bit her
body's tack. He's dropping at twenty two pointly. But that's
neither here.
Speaker 5 (23:55):
Oh man, So I shouldn't text him. He's still not
over it.
Speaker 3 (23:58):
Oh god, no, Ross, No, no, no. There's a lot
of don't do it. Oh You're gonna do it, aren't you.
Speaker 5 (24:06):
I'm just saying, hey, what's up. I don't think I
have it. I didn't save his number, nevermind.
Speaker 3 (24:10):
Okay, good, I'm not giving it to you. Seven one
three two one two five seven seven one three two
one two five at seven ninety Biscuit with us on
the Matt Thomas, Joel Ross Biscuit. Good morning.
Speaker 10 (24:22):
In the morning to you, my brothers. All right, hey man, hey,
madd and ross Man. It's the things that happened in
the organization that you have to you have to be
a little lucky, Matt. And this is where I'm going.
Speaker 3 (24:35):
Man.
Speaker 10 (24:36):
First of all, we're lucky that the Celtics did what
they did with the coach. That was a big move
and turning this organization around. He don could plays the big.
Speaker 11 (24:45):
Part of.
Speaker 10 (24:47):
Number two. No one could think Sam Guone was gonna
be this good. You just can't tell me that they
scouted at the man, it's just gonna And then the
third one.
Speaker 3 (24:58):
Well, but hold on to be fair, Arabiscuit. He was
the sixteenth pick in the draft. I mean, after about.
Speaker 10 (25:04):
If you redrafted it, Matt, if you redrafted he'd probably
the third people.
Speaker 3 (25:09):
Yeah so, but sixteens do survive, but most sixteens in
the NBA don't necessarily have a longer distinguished career. I mean,
he's playing above his draft position, that's for sure.
Speaker 10 (25:19):
And that's what I'm point. And then this Thompson guy,
man the student here, Matt Man, this dude is the
real man. Two years from now, Thompson's gonna be Oh
my goodness, this dude is just this His basketball i
Q was through the roof.
Speaker 3 (25:36):
Yep.
Speaker 10 (25:36):
There's the reason why he's always around the ball. He's
always in the right spot, and for the coach to
design the plays for him for the last shot that
shows a lot right there. I'm gonna pose this question
to you, man, and I'm opposing to your listeners. I
think the Rockets are gonna be the next team to
have a parade in Houston.
Speaker 3 (25:57):
Whoa, whoa.
Speaker 10 (26:01):
I'm not saying it's gonna be this year.
Speaker 3 (26:03):
Better not Hannah that. You better not tell Hannah. She
will not be here happy to hear that.
Speaker 10 (26:09):
I'm sorry, Hannah, It's gonna be the Rockets.
Speaker 11 (26:11):
Man.
Speaker 10 (26:11):
They got talent over there, man. And then let me
ask you this man, what happened to wit Moore's to
deal with whitmore?
Speaker 3 (26:18):
He's said, matter of fact, he didn't even leave the
hotel yesterday he was illness, stayed here. Yeah, he's got
He's got virus of some sort which I don't need
to be around. So you just I'm gonna let him rest.
Speaker 10 (26:30):
I'm asking a question, man, who do you think I
think it's the Rockets?
Speaker 11 (26:34):
Hmm.
Speaker 3 (26:35):
Well, I'm totally biased, so I can say that I
would agree with you on.
Speaker 5 (26:38):
The next parade. I was actually thinking about putting a
Twitter poll out on this matter, but you know what
the recency bias the Rockets would easily when when the yeah, yeah,
if they lose tonight to the Hawks and then like
lose another game and I put the poll out to
be completely different answer, right, right.
Speaker 3 (26:55):
Is a man Thompson the greatest player on Earth?
Speaker 12 (26:58):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (26:58):
And he you know, he goes through two for eleven
and score four points in this five to four turnovers. Yeah,
it's it's one of those things. And I'm sure that's
one of the conversations that you guys have at bars
and whatnot about you know, who's the next one to
have it? And remember we we don't get them very
often around these We've had four in my lifetime.
Speaker 5 (27:16):
Hmmm, it's not a great ratio. ROSSI dum'b bees. Didn't
the hot Shots get one? No, Dynamo, Actually that's true.
The comments they had some all right, I'm just kidding.
I'm sorry. For real, Yes, real major sports championships.
Speaker 3 (27:34):
Yeah, we'll say the big three that are in our town. Yeah,
a franchise that still exists. We don't have a college
football national championship. We don't have a Final we don't have
a Final four title. We excuse me, I'm sorry.
Speaker 5 (27:47):
I've had me a little choked up days last week
and a half. Yeah, I've been taking some sake tickets,
some medicine Bay the.
Speaker 3 (27:54):
Way, if you checked out Lenardi's bracketology.
Speaker 5 (27:56):
Comes out, I have that. Did he finally put them
in a one Well, he just put them as a
one seed. They're gonna be a one seed. Joe Lardi
shuts your bump ass up. Joe, where does he have him?
Speaker 3 (28:08):
I don't know. I haven'tven looked.
Speaker 5 (28:09):
Okay, do you know what. I'm proud of you. I'm
proud of you for not having looked.
Speaker 3 (28:12):
I'm gonna look at her the break well.
Speaker 5 (28:15):
I gotta see if your long is getting mad there. Yeah,
I don't care. So they can lose as an eight
nine or then win and then get smashed by a
one seed.
Speaker 3 (28:22):
I hear, I hear dating and early March is lovely.
Speaker 5 (28:25):
I'm good.
Speaker 3 (28:26):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (28:26):
Yeah, he has them as a three seed.
Speaker 3 (28:28):
Right now, but that was as of last week, I think.
Speaker 5 (28:31):
Okay, yeah, ones, I don't know when this date. No,
this is updated one twenty eight.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
What Joe, you shut your bump ass up. I got zero.
I will I will, I will hound people.
Speaker 5 (28:45):
They're gonna be a one seed. Don't even worry about it.
Speaker 3 (28:47):
The one is he doing for the damn three?
Speaker 5 (28:49):
On that particular he's going based on the resume. I
guess the resume. You just beat Kansas of Kansas? What
else do you want? Well, it was the luckiest winning
college basketball. Oh my god, no you're not yours at fury.
Speaker 3 (29:02):
What it was? It was called steel in the basketball
and hitting two big threes.
Speaker 5 (29:08):
That was extremely lucky. What are you talking about? And oh,
great free throw defense too?
Speaker 3 (29:12):
On the road. M Cougars did make any free throw.
It was about it.
Speaker 5 (29:18):
It was okay, how about this? It was handed to
them and they took it. They also had to take it.
They had to make those shots. But Kansas choked. Come on,
don't be that blind of a homer.
Speaker 3 (29:30):
Well, you know what I know is that the Cougar
stifling defense came to play.
Speaker 5 (29:36):
I mean they did lose to Auburn and Alabama.
Speaker 3 (29:39):
Yeah, it was like two months ago. Things happened.
Speaker 5 (29:42):
Who's the best wins? Okay before the best you know what?
You know what I'm looking at this resume? Maybe Leonard
he's got it right. What's the best win before winning
at Kansas?
Speaker 3 (29:52):
Every one of them j the games I did with
Toledo or.
Speaker 5 (29:56):
Good and it was a good Okay, Yeah, seriously, what's
the I mean? Look, they're gonna be a one seed
in well it's.
Speaker 3 (30:02):
Second Look Utah not quad one. I like at quad
one's Oklahoma State not a quad one BYU's been terrible
this year.
Speaker 5 (30:12):
Yeah, you know what, maybe Leonardi's got this right on
the resume. They're gonna be a one seed though. Okay,
they're gonna continue to win. It'll be fun.
Speaker 3 (30:19):
That's all I need to hear from you. Thank you

Matin Ross return return on sports talks.
Speaker 3 (32:00):
I'm a ninety The time is ten fifty is a
Matt Thomas show with Ross. Ross is the name you
downs bring a bell to you at all?
Speaker 5 (32:14):
He was like on Evening News or something back in
the day.
Speaker 3 (32:17):
He was yeah, way back and then he was also
the host of twenty twenty for a long time.
Speaker 5 (32:20):
I don't know what that is. Oh was at the
Barbara Walters show.
Speaker 3 (32:23):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, okay, and he and Barbara did it.
He was known for taking small naps in between new segments.
Speaker 5 (32:30):
Yeah. I used to do that when I was an
overnight board operator.
Speaker 3 (32:35):
I might be taking four minute naps here during the
show today. All right. I had this really comfy couch
and I had this nice pillow, and I'm just like,
daddy't need sleepy here.
Speaker 5 (32:45):
You're gonna be fine.
Speaker 3 (32:49):
Rockets when.
Speaker 5 (32:51):
Yeah, just get up and do something like do some
highknees in between the breaks or something. Really yeah, And
I got some push ups hind to get the blood flowing.
Speaker 3 (32:58):
Is that what you want me to do? You want
me to get a good get at goodness.
Speaker 5 (33:00):
Don't get the blood flown like you normally do in
the hotel room. I'm just talking about like Calisthenix.
Speaker 3 (33:04):
Oh that kind of blood flow. You don't want that
going on? All right, I say that's that You're probably
right about that. That's not the greatest blood flow. Work
takes a lot of work sometimes to get Oh no, right, stop,
all right, let's do it quickly. Ten to fifty two
time Now for an Alex bregmant updates.
Speaker 5 (33:27):
Oh, Man, Ross show, the bit's never going away.
Speaker 3 (33:37):
Much distagree of some all right, So there is a
little bit more of financial freedom for the Astros now
that Alex. The Ryan Presley trade has officially been consummated
between the Astros and the Cubs. But man, I continue
ROSSI to not put those two deals together in an
(33:59):
if then statement. It add on that that mister Bregman,
some the Twitter streets are saying he wants thirty million
a year. I think he's been looking for thirty million
years since the day he declared for free agency. Which
Twitter streets were those, every one of them? Like you know, again,
some of these are fanboy stuff. But the last I've
(34:22):
read was this morning was a Nightingale reporting a day
and a half ago about that he's looking for a
multi year deal. He's got three teams that are willing
to offer the multi year deal. The Boston Red Sox
r a teen that's not willing to give the five
year deal that they're more inclined to give a four
year deal. I'm gonna be getting a free lunch out
of this.
Speaker 11 (34:40):
I feel.
Speaker 5 (34:42):
I'm feeling Scott Boris really screwed this up for me. No,
it's his fault and Alex Brigman's ego and possibly the
tax situation in Canada. I'm blaming Justin Trudeau for me
losing this lunch.
Speaker 3 (34:57):
You know, in honor of that. Let's go get some
poon teen No, Matt, it's poutine. Well I mean that too,
will get some poutine and some poon tine.
Speaker 5 (35:04):
No, no, it's poutine. Where where do you get the
best poon tine and Matt poutine bissonet? I guess it's
by the p I right, you know what, I'm embarrassed.
I'm embarrassed for you lost on one of my sportsbait.
Oh whatever, and what's and we have and we have
(35:26):
a dollar bet on the one seventy five million, right,
hundred twenty five million? I don't remember. Yeah, I'm okay
with losing that one.
Speaker 3 (35:33):
I didn't know just keep taking those l's baby. Oh
whatever I mean? Is is Alex and real quick for
going back to the phones? Is Alex just afraid to
come back because he feels like that he overvalued himself?
I mean I don't think we we I mean that
may be, that may be a storyline, but it's not
one that we particularly care about. Because the Astros the Astros. Again,
(35:53):
here's the here's the definitive statement. The Astros are better
in twenty twenty five. If Alex Bregman's in the lineup,
pure into story. Yeah, inarguable. Where's is Jorge Polonko? Is
he gonna play outfield? I don't know, But now they're
kicking the tires on him too. Man, It's like it's
like Dana Brown's like man if Gregman, if you and
(36:14):
Boris and Jim Crane won't have your own text thread,
that's fine. I'm gonna be a part of it. I'm
gonna go trying to get this team better by myself.
Speaker 5 (36:23):
Are they gonna play all two Vay and left with
hone Polonko at second? Polanka played one hundred and twelve
games at second last year. Nowhere else?
Speaker 3 (36:33):
What's his what is his passhead? In terms of infield work.
Speaker 5 (36:37):
Is what oh past? Yeah, uh, shortstop, second base, third base,
it's always ever played as a major leaguer, so.
Speaker 3 (36:43):
Damn, maybe I'll do. He's going to left field, regardless
of what happens with Bregman. Gosh, Dan Brown's like, man,
I'm just gonna keep doing my nine to five job.
Y'all leave me alone, and then Jim calls him says,
I need to talk. Jims like, Dana, what you been
working on? Polankah? Cool that off? I got bregnant signed here?
Speaker 5 (37:06):
Yeah, I don't. It's just the pregnant thing just doesn't
seem like it's gonna it's gonna happen.
Speaker 3 (37:11):
And I don't think Scott Boris, I mean I know
that he and Dana apparently have had some conversations. Scott
Boris is. What do you call it when you have
somebody you work with that goes around you just to
get to your boss?
Speaker 5 (37:21):
What was that kind of Yeah? Matt Thomas, No, I
don't go around. It's known as a Matt Thomas around here.
Speaker 3 (37:28):
It's not. No. I respect my pig. Oh my god,
you're the worst. I hate you, no one. I haven't
seen you in two weeks. It's been two weeks too,
little oh Man under the show permanently on the road.
I'll just start in bending games I'm at I'm here
in Charlotte tonight for the seventy six ers in the Hornets.
Speaker 5 (37:47):
Yeah, you just started calling other teams.
Speaker 3 (37:49):
Yeah, hey, is there somebody needs a game called, and
somebody's a day break. I'll go up there and do
the show from somewhere else.
Speaker 5 (37:55):
Travel travel costs might rack up.
Speaker 3 (37:57):
It's true. Okay, So before the top of the hour
on seven case of what's your Chillicken question today? Or comment?
Speaker 13 (38:03):
Hey, yeah, the Poon team on this Seeta j a plus.
But yeah, the first thing is going to be on
the Mark Thomas Show with Ralph. I just kind of
wanted to talk about how this team, this iteration of
the Rockets, is so far ahead of anything that I
feel like real true Rockets fans thought we'd be.
Speaker 11 (38:26):
At right now.
Speaker 13 (38:27):
And if there's anyone in Houston that's kind of skeptical
on this team, because given the last three years and
even in the hardened era, it's completely different. I mean,
I love James Harden and that whole team that they brought,
but they didn't they did not play them. They they
they thought they could outscore everyone, and that brand of
(38:48):
basketball is It was fun for a Rockets fan, but
I could see how it was off putting for anyone
who is a casual fan or just a local, you know,
local observer. This team led by our head coach email
and the guy that they have drafted, it's nothing like
I feel like current Rockets fans I've seen in a
(39:09):
very long time. I don't know when it will transcribe
into a championship, but the writing is there, and I
feel like the coaching staff is there, and I just
I just feel like they have a really good problem
on their hand with when Jabbari comes back? Who do
you think out was sorry line as if you don't
you know, I don't. I don't fault them for because
(39:29):
everyone is playing their role to a teet, So I
just kind of wanted to echo that and what you
guys thought.
Speaker 3 (39:38):
Thank you very much for the phone call from the future.
From the future, by the way, was he swimming when
he was calling him?
Speaker 5 (39:44):
I don't know, was he in the submarine? I mean,
we have terrible phone lines at our station. I'm not
gonna blame that. I'm blaming Keso.
Speaker 3 (39:50):
Yeah, that was a that was a chilly come back.
Speaker 5 (39:52):
That was a Mark Thomas and we got to call
last night talking about Mark Thomas and Alex Wexer. But
the guy was trolling anyways, But that was that's what
the reference was. No, what do you mean, man, everybody
loves you?
Speaker 3 (40:02):
No, I mean people hate me. I'm fully get aware
of it. I don't hate you. I know you're the
only one that does a lot of hate out there.
I was kind of I mean, the whole swimming in
the pool during the phone call threw me out. What
was this general point again?
Speaker 5 (40:17):
Uh, well, first of all, I disagree with the point
that the Rockets hardened regime. Okay, they didn't he said
they didn't play any defense. They certainly did in twenty eighteen.
I mean they had was on that team was Chris Paul,
Trevor Reza, Clint Capella, PJ Tucker, uh and then Paul
James Hardens starting. But that was a good defensive team.
(40:38):
But he's just talking about how he enjoys this brand
of basketball more than the than the hardened Rockets. I
believe was his overall point, which is to each his own.
Speaker 3 (40:47):
Yeah, I mean that Rocket hardened team what did the
playoffs on a regular basis and was two steps away
from an NBA Western Championship. So we haven'ty seen what
this team could do in for one round of the playoffs.
So I would say, to Caseo's point, let's hold of
the year before that.
Speaker 5 (41:01):
They made two Western finals? Are three?
Speaker 3 (41:05):
Uh two? I know for sure? Yeah, maybe it was
just two, but either way, this Rockets team needs to
get to that level. Yeah. I mean, I'm telling you
this will be the most it will be the most
intrigue time about a playoff because I don't know how
(41:25):
good this playoff team is. First of all, playoffs are
so much different because you play the same team at
minimum four times in a series and maximum seven.
Speaker 5 (41:31):
Well, the good thing is you've got a good playoff
coach in my opinion.
Speaker 3 (41:34):
So yeah, well, I mean, hell, first year came when
the playoffs took the Celtics the to the NBA Finals,
So I mean there's a pretty good track record there.
All right, let's get the second hour started the Matt
Thomas Show seven one three two one two five seven

Dan Matthews is text in and said how much he
enjoys the Sarah Spain Women's sports updates. Thank you Dan
for listening to the show this morning.
Speaker 5 (43:34):
A huge win by whoever won on that update.
Speaker 3 (43:39):
He always always talks about leagues I've never heard of before,
the nws L. There's I think there's something on T
and T where they have three on three men's hoops
two of them.
Speaker 5 (43:48):
Okay, I think the Houston Dasher for sale.
Speaker 3 (43:52):
I don't know that's a good question.
Speaker 5 (43:54):
You said the Dash is a good party, right, Yeah.
Dash is a good time. Those girls are really good
and you can get really cheap tickets and cheap all
you can you can get cheap all you can eat,
all you can drink tickets. If you wait till the
last second, there you go, and then you'll get harassed
via email for them to buy season tickets. But that's
every league.
Speaker 3 (44:10):
By the way, we had a listener upset with us.
We had mentioned the tow A Houston eighteen thirty six
championships that no, it's the Dynamo Matt so I wasn't
here when they named the team Houston eighteen thirty six
where people are like, what the hell does that mean?
Or were they are like, oh, cool with that.
Speaker 5 (44:26):
I think it was confusing, but then you would explain
it was the Independence Day for Texas, okay, And then
I believe they thought it would upset some of the
Hispanic fan base, which if you're having a soccer team
in Houston there it's gonna be a big Hispanic fan base,
right or Mexican. I guess I don't know.
Speaker 3 (44:44):
Well, I've told you this for the five thousand of
the time, and I'll say it for five thousand and one.
Bob McNair and I loved the name Toros for the Texans,
and it failed miserably in the Hispanic focus groups.
Speaker 5 (44:57):
Mm hmm okay, and.
Speaker 3 (44:58):
So I'm my first ever gut feeling this had to
have been what two thousand, two thousand and one. As
I told my radio partner at the time, I said,
they're gonna there's gonna be something total related with the Texans.
I don't know what it's going to be, but there's
gonna be something, whether it's the logo, whether it's the helmet,
whether it's the mascot. And guess what it was all
(45:20):
the above.
Speaker 5 (45:21):
Wow, you got it right man.
Speaker 3 (45:22):
Congratulations, great job, I mean I got let me take
you something so proud of a lot of things wrong
in my life. Don't don't worry about that.
Speaker 5 (45:28):
I'm here to bring them up.
Speaker 3 (45:29):
I do know, I know there's anybody that coreate that
chronicles my life in terms of my missus, it's my
radio partner.
Speaker 5 (45:37):
I got the No Sharongest file up right now.
Speaker 3 (45:40):
Don't worry. My greatest one Dallas beating Miami for the
NBA chance, that's what started all this whole thing.
Speaker 5 (45:46):
Are you thinking you were some kind of genius? You
you pulled that out of here, you know what? And
then we're sitting there you didn't.
Speaker 3 (45:53):
Get the stones to say, let's go say what you mean?
You know what, I don't even need to say.
Speaker 5 (45:58):
I pulled out of my analytical no.
Speaker 3 (46:00):
No, no, no, yes, thank you, thank you very much.
All right, let's go to the phones talking ridiculous gut
feeling coming up at a bottom of thing hour on
sports Talk seven Hoey Vince in Midtown's with us on
seven ninety to eleven oh seven. Vince, thank you for
holding in. Good morning to you.
Speaker 6 (46:19):
He he didn't want to you guys too.
Speaker 3 (46:21):
Hey.
Speaker 14 (46:21):
I called about a couple of weeks ago and was
asking about what you thought, when Smith is ready to play,
whether he'd get back in the starting lineup. My opinion
back then was that you shouldn't lose your starting assignment
because of an injury. But now like five games later,
So with that in mind, how do you think Smith
(46:44):
is going to sit in now his role?
Speaker 3 (46:47):
Also?
Speaker 6 (46:48):
Do you think he maybe trade bait? Personally?
Speaker 14 (46:54):
I still think we need a solid score, someone like
a Devin Booker, But I don't know if that's possible
you can.
Speaker 3 (47:00):
Get Devin You think Devin Booker for Jabari Smith Junior.
I mean you.
Speaker 6 (47:06):
Would have to throw in more than that.
Speaker 14 (47:07):
No, No, I.
Speaker 3 (47:08):
Realized that right right, I mean the main but d no, I.
Speaker 11 (47:13):
Thought, what's your thoughts on that?
Speaker 3 (47:15):
Yeah, I knew the moment that a men Thompson was
going to get in the starring line up, that he
was not leaving it. And I think I think they
were trying to figure out a way to get a
man in there anyway, and that the Jabari situation. Look,
Jabari has missed defensively, that is for sure. Jabari has
missed rebounding wise, and he can hit the occasional three.
Speaker 15 (47:36):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (47:36):
But men Thompson was built to be in the starring
lineup for this team because he plays so many different
positions and you and he just becomes very difficult to guard,
no matter if you're a big power forward or you're
playing on the wing. So, uh, Jabari is not leaving
the line. I mean, excuse me, A man's not leaving
the starring lineup. Jbar. My guess will be coming off
the bench. So that's the one thing too, I really vinced.
(47:59):
Don't think they're gonn to do anything super spicy at
the deadline. I think they want to see what this
is at least for one playoff run, and then if
people are descrintled in the offseason. If there is a deal,
they can't refuse. And I'm just saying that they wouldn't
refuse an offer if there was something for you know,
(48:19):
a booker at this point of the trade deadline. Let's
say the Sun's even you know, fall further out of
favor in the West. They will listen. But my leaning is,
and I'm not in things I was you can turn
daily because of a phone call that takes place. But
my lean would be they will not involve themselves in
a major deal with recogazma players. They will probably get
(48:40):
some sort of fringe player, whether it's perhaps getting a
different backup center, whether it's getting a third center, whether
it's getting another backup power forward. I don't know. It
just will be something that you will go, oh, that's nice,
but it's not gonna be one of those things that's
gonna be a real head turner in the NBA.
Speaker 14 (48:54):
All right, Well, this is a great time to be
a basketball fan here in Houston. I love I've always
loved basketball with my faceavorite sport, but I really liked
the style of play. If both the Cougars and the
Rockets play, that's just right up my alley.
Speaker 6 (49:06):
And it's just I still can't believe that the Cougar's
pulled that game off the other day. It's just unbelievable.
Speaker 14 (49:13):
So I just love the style of basketball and look
forward to turn the TV on when Eve the team
is playing nowadays.
Speaker 6 (49:19):
So thanks for to take my call. Guys, thank you.
Speaker 3 (49:21):
Vin's nice to hear from you. We're you know, and
I don't know Rosson and I lived here. Let's say
I'm fifty two. I've lived here seven forty years of
my life. And look, the NBA championships were the Pinnacle
ninety four, ninety five, and there have been a lot
of playoff teams for the Rockets over the year. So
it's been a good basketball city. Uh, And we have
(49:44):
been such innundated with all this astro greatness. I'll be
curious if we get to a final four stage.
Speaker 9 (49:50):
Now.
Speaker 3 (49:50):
The Cougar's were to the Final four, but it was
a COVID year, so people were still not coming out
and playing and hanging out and going to watch parties
and doing that kind of thing. And there wasn't a
huge contingent that went to Indian appl because again, it
was hard to travel and whatnot. If we can get
both the local basketball teams in his town to do
some serious damage, how much does that change the overall
culture of this town, especially because the Texans remain in
(50:12):
neutral come playoff wise, and the Astros might find themselves,
you know, not with a cake walk towards a playoff spot.
This year. I still think they're gonna I think they're
gonna be a contender for a playoff spot, but I
wouldn't think if if anything, they're gonna be a small
favorite to win the West, but not nearly as dominant
as they have been in years past.
Speaker 5 (50:29):
Yeah, I mean you you're what exactly is the question?
Speaker 3 (50:33):
Is that the rocket like you know where, where can
where can basketball move.
Speaker 5 (50:38):
Up in the interest lessl wing?
Speaker 3 (50:40):
If the college and pro teams really make a magical
right now? The kook now that the biggest frauds are
people that say, oh I love this Google basketball to mean,
you haven't been around for five or six years. And
I get it because before Samson it was ross. What's
what's the opposite of dormant?
Speaker 5 (50:56):
Awake?
Speaker 3 (50:57):
Okay, they wouldn't be what's worse en dormant? Worse en
dormant hibernating dead yeah, life support, Uh yeah, I'll stick
with hibernating. I don't know.
Speaker 5 (51:14):
I mean dormant means it's gonna wake back up, right, Yeah,
that's true.
Speaker 3 (51:20):
It's like it's like your phone when it's on. Notifications
are silenced. Cougar basketballs have been a notification has been
silenced for like twenty five years. Bring them back, Betty,
Let's get the people going. Gotta win one before Calvin
Sampson retires. Seriously, I'm gonna be like, I'm gonna have
to take a couple of days off just to morn
If we don't want to make of the final four.
Speaker 5 (51:42):
That would be real shame. They're deserving, very good team.
Speaker 3 (51:47):
I feel like you're clenching your teeth as you're saying
these things.
Speaker 5 (51:49):
What do you mean?
Speaker 3 (51:51):
I mean? I mean again, I'm about eight dred miles
from you, but I feel like you're just not authentic
when you mentioned these comments.
Speaker 5 (51:56):
The Cougars are a great team and they should be
a one seed. What else do you want me to say?
Speaker 3 (52:00):
Yeah, but I was like, I still don't hear it.
I don't hear in your voices being authentic, Like I
want to look at Tech. Here's between me and you
with the mull Please, we're playing for the semifinals. I
wanted your team to win.
Speaker 5 (52:11):
Yeah right, you were. You were with your family all
rooting against the long Horns.
Speaker 3 (52:14):
No chance. Don't believe you now. I was rooting for
the ACI used to beat the long Horns on Saturday
in college basketball.
Speaker 5 (52:21):
Tell you that straight up. But it wasn't because I
didn't happen.
Speaker 3 (52:23):
I text it was his pro A and M and
it almost happened until they gapped the twenty loss. Now
my son's in therapy twice a week over it.
Speaker 5 (52:32):
Poor guy, it's gonna happen. He hasn't responded my text.
Speaker 3 (52:35):
Oh you did find No, I didn't text all.
Speaker 5 (52:37):
I'm just kidding.
Speaker 3 (52:38):
I'm not gonna do. I'm not that kind of guy.
You didn't say you didn't text him a sorry I
for you were lost in prayers.
Speaker 5 (52:43):
No, no, I'm not gonna pull a real D move
like that.
Speaker 3 (52:47):
Who would do this? Such a thing, that's terrible. Eleven
fourteen Sports Talk seven and eight is the Matt Thomas
Show with Ross. I'm hearing Atlanta for Rockets and Hawks tonight.
Also a reminder that we've got Gut Feelings coming up
in fifteen minutes. That's where you make your old him
in Sports Predictions seven one three two one two five
seven ninety. That's seven one three two one two five
(53:08):
is seven ninety. If you want to reach out to
us on Twitter, we'd love that. It's at Sports Empty,
at Sports RB and at Connor d McGovern eleven fourteen
Gut Feelings fifteen minutes away on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (53:20):
The Man Tata Show with Ross continues on Sports Talk
seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (53:31):
Ross. While I begrudgingly hang out with you daily, my
friend Craig Ackerman is like, I brought you breakfast yesterday,
a mid a mid snack in between your show yesterday,
and we won. He's bringing me more food today.
Speaker 5 (53:43):
Oh is he superstitious like that?
Speaker 3 (53:45):
Yes? The problem is he's on a different floor than
I am. So I don't know if you're gonna get
up to this floor.
Speaker 5 (53:53):
Oh great, are you gonna Are you gonna get up
in the middle of a segment again?
Speaker 3 (53:56):
Well, I mean he's bringing me good food. I have
to be a polite right.
Speaker 5 (54:00):
Just tell me the time it out, tell them to
listen to the show. And when he hears you break
head down.
Speaker 3 (54:04):
So here's what I'm doing. I'm going to see if
he comes into the room, I'll put him on headset
for from it. Don't you want to get a good
callity analysis in the voice of the television rockets.
Speaker 5 (54:13):
Absolutely, it's gonna better than the analysis and getting from
the radio voice.
Speaker 3 (54:16):
Yeah, it feels personal again, Nike.
Speaker 5 (54:19):
You know what I feel like, I get like twenty
percent meanor when you're on the road and I'm gonna
apologize right now. Maybe I'm just better and you know what,
I'm sorry, Matt.
Speaker 3 (54:26):
I love you.
Speaker 5 (54:27):
You do a great job on the call. You have
a storied Houston radio career. I respect everything you've done,
and you've done a great job raising your children. I
hope you have a great day. I just want to apologize.
Speaker 3 (54:38):
Can I be honest with you? I don't want you
to change. I just don't because if you, if you
change it became nice, I wouldn't. I wouldn't even know.
Speaker 5 (54:45):
You'd be like, are you nice?
Speaker 3 (54:48):
Are you undergoing some medical treatments of some sort I
don't know about.
Speaker 5 (54:51):
Yeah, is your life? Yeah, I'm making amends.
Speaker 6 (54:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (54:57):
No, Like at the at my eulogy, you're gonna say,
you know, I was rude to Matt a lot.
Speaker 5 (55:04):
I'm gonna crush you. I'm gonna he's gonna be a roast.
It's gonna be a roast, thirty minute roast. I got
material all written up.
Speaker 3 (55:10):
He'd be like that. You'd be like the Jeff Ross
of my eulogy. Yes, oh man, all right, but yeah,
I don't want you changing. That's that's the best part
is you just stay who you are. You've been this
way for fifteen years. Why change? Now? Let's talk to people.
Let's go to David Spring at eleven twenty one of
the Matt Thomas old Ross Dave A.
Speaker 16 (55:30):
Good morning, Hey, guys, enjoy the show as always, lots
of basketball talk. Let me say some of the things
I was going to talk about I've already been talked about.
I was gonna ask about Jabari and where he sits
in that's been that's been covered. Let me say this, Uh,
Craig Ackerman is great. I watched that game last night,
and I know he's a friend of yours. I can
understand why you guys have sort of the same sense
(55:51):
of humor and everything else. But he's terrific on the
broadcast and last night he dropped von Wafer in there
out of in the middle of the game. That was perfect.
And I just liked listening to Craig. I like listening
to you guys, and I really liked listening to Craig
as well. Let me say this about Amen Thompson. Everyone's
loving Amen Thompson understandably trying to think of who he
reminds me of. And I'll ask Matt if he agrees
(56:13):
with this six ' seven rangey, super athletic floats to
the rim effortlessly. He reminds me of a young Clyde.
That's the that's the best analogy I can come up.
It's not perfect, but a.
Speaker 3 (56:25):
Better Clyde was a better shooter and probably will always
be a better shooter. Uh.
Speaker 11 (56:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 16 (56:32):
Clyde had that flat trajectory though, you know, yeah, uh.
Speaker 3 (56:36):
And Clyde was more of a showman. But Clyde, let
me see what the men could do that Clyde. It's
not a bad cop because they're both six seven and
they're both about the same weight. When they were playing
the league, a men can play four different positions. Clyde
was not going against power forwards and going in against
centers and blocking shots. He would get one occasionally because
he was still super shitet freakers athletic, but Clyde was
(56:57):
more of a I mean as is definition line. He
was a ball high in the air. Oh, oh my god,
you scared me, sir. The velvet brought me documents. No, sir,
that's for you, sir, that's for you. Take that money
right there, that's day I close it. Please. Oh my god,
(57:18):
what is happening the velvet Probably not documents and he's
completely scared me. Sorry about that?
Speaker 5 (57:26):
Oh geez, I thought I.
Speaker 3 (57:28):
Was getting the sorry about that. I was in his
de conversation about Clyde director. Okay, uh yeah, a man
can guard fork spots. Clyde couldn't do that. Clyde's a
better outside shooter. But there's there's a lot of things.
I'm gonna give you a more of a better, a
better comp of another player didn't play for the Rockets, who,
by the way, is getting his jersey retired, Andre Iguidala,
(57:51):
but a more complete score than Andre was with the
Golden State Warriors. If you remember him in all the
last few years.
Speaker 16 (57:58):
I remember, Yeah, he was with the Sixers for a
long time. You know, he was thicker. He was a bigger,
more muscular guy. Now maybe Amen's going to fill out it.
Speaker 3 (58:06):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 16 (58:08):
Let me make one more comment, one more comment about
the Cougar because I couldn't listen at all yesterday, which
killed me because I knew Matt was going to go,
you know, big on the Cougars yesterday. That game on
Saturday night was a game where I'll tell you what,
they may win the National Championship this year and if
they do, and Ross, I don't want to hear from
you right now, but if they do, I think you're
going to hear Kelvin Sampson on that Monday night in
(58:31):
the presser talking about the Kansas game to turn the season,
not turned it around, but made them believe that this
year might be the year. That was an amazing game.
They had a zero point four chance win probability at
the eighteenth second mark. I read that in the paper
this morning. A ninety nine point six percent chance they
were going to lose that game and they wont it.
(58:52):
That's pretty incredible anyway, love your show, Thank you very much.
Speaker 3 (58:55):
Appreciate the phone call. Appreciate the phone call. Yeah, and Ross,
and you're gonna get mad, at me. Don't be mad
at me for this. But I don't even look at
those things ever, because it's do I need a nine
to nine point seven percent chance to go, well, there's
at least at the point three that we win.
Speaker 5 (59:13):
I mean, I'm one, don't look at them mad, It's okay,
I am, I gonna look.
Speaker 3 (59:16):
I'm gonna look.
Speaker 5 (59:16):
Don't. It's just a little bit of information. It gives
you a little context for how incredible the comeback was.
Speaker 3 (59:23):
Yeah, it wasn't. It was an incredible comeback. And here's
the thing. You know what, It's funny when you win
a big game you can't then you if you lose
a game you're not supposed to lose, then it becomes
like an ultimate letdown. Like they play West Virginia tomorrow
and West Vinie is okay, but they should win that game.
It's like the Rockets tonight are playing Atlanta team here
in Atlanta, they're five hundred. You just beat Cleveland, Cleveland
(59:45):
and Boston and three straight games. I don't want them lose.
In the Hawks, the Hawks are tough.
Speaker 5 (59:50):
It's a it's a second half of back to back.
Hawks are tough.
Speaker 3 (59:54):
It's fine.
Speaker 5 (59:54):
Third game in four nights.
Speaker 3 (59:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (59:58):
And by the way, on the men times and comps,
I just haven't heard one that really rings true to me.
He's just such a unique talent. And that's okay. We
always want to run to the comp card. I do
it too. Yeah, it's it's very natural for us. But
to me, a men Thompson's looking like one of one
to me.
Speaker 3 (01:00:14):
And here's the thing. If he look he hit a
three yesterday. He's never going to be a deep bomber.
But if he can hit the range in an occasional three,
are you kidding me?
Speaker 5 (01:00:25):
And then you're talking about a top twenty player in
the league.
Speaker 3 (01:00:27):
Yeah. Minimum Minimum, who's frequently athletic, has the inateability at
six seven to block a lot of shots. It's blocking
Evan Mobiley the seven foot us. He's upolishing point guard.
He threw up us a point guard. He's playing power
forward in the NBA.
Speaker 5 (01:00:43):
He can wreck the game on both sides of the ball.
He seems to just have unlimited energy. Plays with a
high motor. If you will, oh Man, high motor. You
dropped it in he does. He's got high motor.
Speaker 3 (01:00:58):
I got you. Let's go to Tony and New Kenny
before we get to a little gut feelings of more
phone calls. Hi, Tony are on seven ninety, Good morning.
Speaker 11 (01:01:06):
I just I.
Speaker 12 (01:01:07):
Haven't listened to all day to day. But I don't
know if you'll talk.
Speaker 11 (01:01:10):
Anything about the Astros.
Speaker 10 (01:01:11):
But uh, what do you guys think.
Speaker 12 (01:01:14):
About how too they if that happened going to left field?
I think he would become a defensive liability. I don't
think he's got the arm to play the outfield. What
do you guys think, Uh, he.
Speaker 3 (01:01:25):
Would be a defensive liability. He auld be a defensive
live ability. He would be a minus defensive player. Unfortunately
in the in Ross springs out the metrics, but they're accurate.
He's a minus second baseman right now.
Speaker 12 (01:01:39):
Yeah, I mean his arm has shown signs of deterioration
in the last couple of years. Of making that throw
going to his right and then either having the plant
or throw to first, you can tell he's he's gutting out. Okay, anyway,
I don't I don't think that's gonna happen because Bregman's
not gonna come here after that big money.
Speaker 11 (01:01:57):
So hope he gets what he wants and gets what
he deserves.
Speaker 12 (01:02:00):
See if he gets booed when he comes back.
Speaker 3 (01:02:02):
But I don't think that would be awfully short sighted
if he got booed among the beloved Ross former astros.
If Bregman becomes one, isn't he like number one in
the list? He would, he would, he would overtake Korea, right,
And I.
Speaker 5 (01:02:20):
Would think just because of how long he's been there,
if you switched him and Karrea was here this long,
it'd probably be Korea. But yeah, Bregman was here longer.
Speaker 3 (01:02:26):
All right, we got a lot of folks that want
to talk to some other sports basketball. Look at these
basketball calls ROSSI, let's go. It's making me cry. By
the way, Craig is gonna when he comes and brings
me lunch, He's gonna come on for a little Oh,
thank god to you. So apparently they had said they
sent some catchphrase last night that has taken over the
Twitter streets. Hmmm, okay, see, you don't even know what
(01:02:47):
I'm talking about to you. I don't recall what they said.
I listened to the broadcast. Yeah it's something about Aura.
Speaker 5 (01:02:56):
Oh yeah, what was he would h Ryan Hollins was
talking about Dylan Brooks or I can't remember what he said,
but yeah, I'll remember when I hear.
Speaker 3 (01:03:05):
It, all right, So just give him a little love,
you know, because Craig. Craig is a little jealous that
he doesn't come on there on seven ninety very much.
I'm like, KRK, you're always walking to come on the show.
Speaker 5 (01:03:13):
Or a Maxing?
Speaker 3 (01:03:14):
Was that it?
Speaker 6 (01:03:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:03:15):
Or a Maxing?
Speaker 5 (01:03:15):
Okay, just got to ask him about that, Okay.
Speaker 3 (01:03:19):
It's very popular.
Speaker 6 (01:03:20):
It was.
Speaker 3 (01:03:20):
It was quite the buzz on the plane yesterday. Meanwhile,
my daughter sent me a nice tweet yesterday. It was
the was the buzz in my in my small section,
meaning my own chair. That's great, all right, Love, she's
a good kid. I'm proud of her. She was raised right.
Thanks Kimberly Thomas for her your hard work. Seven one
three two one two five seven ninety seven one three
(01:03:40):
two one two five seven ninety more phone calls. We'll
get to the gut feelings eventually, but we got a
lot of folks that want to talk, and so I'm
gonna get out the way and let you all visit
with us here. We appreciate you spending some time with
us This morning on Sports Talk seven ninety all right,
the Astros announced the trade with Ryan Presley and then
shortly after they had a media availability, and Rossie, I
(01:04:03):
don't want to editorialize your news at noon, but we
should probably play some of those cuts with Dana Brown
that you just spoke to the media during the news
atnew maybe a couple of them as in fact all
right situation, so that will dominate our news at noon
because it's kind of again, I have not heard them yet,
I've seen them on the Twitter. But going back to
(01:04:25):
what you said yesterday, I think Dama's interest in Bregman
may not may not be the same that maybe Astro
fans and maybe even Scott Boris has in the Astros
and going Bregman coming back to Astro. So I don't
I don't want to misinterpret some one. I'd rather hear
it right from his voice, and we'll have it for
you coming up in about to twenty five minutes from
now seven one three two one two five seven ninety
(01:04:47):
Easy with this at eleven thirty five on the Matt
Thomas Show with Ross Easy. Good morning to you.
Speaker 5 (01:04:52):
Good morning gentlemen. UH just three quick points.
Speaker 17 (01:04:55):
What do you guys think about uh Bregman signing a
short term contract?
Speaker 5 (01:05:00):
Maybe a two year fifty mili.
Speaker 17 (01:05:02):
I know he the market isn't where it needs to
be for him, so I mean it still gives them
some time, you know, where he can he can get
there with the long term contract. Second one, I was
going to bring up H. D. Fox from UH Sacramento. Yeah,
I know they were kicking.
Speaker 5 (01:05:20):
The rock the tires on that for a while. How
legit is that?
Speaker 17 (01:05:24):
And Rossie, what do you think about your boy from
UH Texas coming out? And where's he going in the draft?
And I hung up and listen, guys, thank it for
the call.
Speaker 3 (01:05:32):
Thank you. I don't be believe that the rockets were
kicking the tires in de Aaron Fox. I think that
was completely There's that people were bringing them up, but
I don't think the rockets were because again I think
if you're Sacramento, you want a king's ranswer for that.
They're not and they're not going to ruin what is
being built here for a guy that's going to be
testing frames in a year. It's not gonna happen. Does
(01:05:55):
I mean that Daron Fox couldn't eventually become a rocket
down the road, but they're not going to do it.
The sacrifice this year, Bregman Ross. It sounds like to me,
he doesn't love this twenty five what do they call it?
If he's not happy with six one fifty six, why
would he be happy with two fifty he'd be making
less peran.
Speaker 5 (01:06:15):
I would imagine he wouldn't give that. He's not he's
too old to sign a short term deal. He needs to.
This was supposed to be the off season.
Speaker 3 (01:06:22):
Yeah, that was it. This was supposed to be it.
So yeah, I don't I don't envision if he signs
a short term deal. It would be a huge loss
for Scott Boris in terms of what kind of cachet
he has in the baseball world, not name one. Soto
and I would probably think he'd go. I don't know.
(01:06:43):
If there are multi year deals out there, he's going
to have to take one, because thirty one to thirty
two year old guys that are that still think they're
in the prime of their major league baseball career don't
take the short term deals. So I'd be completely stunned
by that. I mean, it wouldn't happen, but I'm I'd
be super super stunned.
Speaker 5 (01:07:01):
I'd be shocked, all right.
Speaker 3 (01:07:02):
Uh, and then he asked you about a Texas player.
Speaker 5 (01:07:05):
He didn't mention his name. I assume he meant Quinn.
Speaker 3 (01:07:07):
Youwers, we're gonna play game.
Speaker 5 (01:07:12):
Uh, you blipped out there? What Oh guess that draft spot.
Guess the draft spot. I'll say second or third round.
But some people think that there's so few quarterback prospects.
He would certainly be like way back in the draft.
People think if he went last year, yeah, but this
year since some of these guys, some people are saying
that cam Ward would be QB seven next year and
(01:07:34):
he's QB one I mean sorry last year and he's
QB one this year. And same thing with Schador Sanders.
So because of the lack of quarterback prospects, there could
be a scenario where somebody reaches for uh, reaches for
Quinn yours. But I just guess second or third round
at this point.
Speaker 3 (01:07:54):
Yeah, it feels about right. I don't. I don't. I
can't imagine him going into the combine or having an
individual workout. So it would take a guy that had
a second or third round grant and all of a
sudden moving up thirty draft spots.
Speaker 5 (01:08:05):
Man, it can happen just because teams get desperate for quarterbacks.
I'm trying to convince themselves at CO work out, and.
Speaker 3 (01:08:10):
Maybe that's part of the reason why Quinn came out
and he said, look, this is in a great quarterback draft,
and as we're going now and maybe get myself drafted
higher than I would be if if I win it
a year or so. Yeah, let's talk to Robert on
seven ninety eleven thirty eight. Robert, good morning to you.
Speaker 8 (01:08:24):
Good morning, gentlemen.
Speaker 5 (01:08:25):
I appreciate y'all.
Speaker 18 (01:08:27):
I grew up in near Austin and a junior high
high school huge Cowboys fan when they went to the
three Super Bowls and then and then was it like everybody.
Speaker 5 (01:08:38):
In the country, a big Michael Jordan fan.
Speaker 18 (01:08:39):
So I missed the Rockets Championships really experiencing them as
a fan.
Speaker 5 (01:08:45):
I moved here in.
Speaker 18 (01:08:46):
Like twenty eighteen, jumped hard on the Astros bandwagon. One
of the greatest sports things I've ever done. I want
to jump on this Rockets bandwagon. But I have a
question what was what was bigger in y'all's experience and memory.
Was it the Rockets Championships when the NBA was really
kind of at a peak popularity or the Astros run
(01:09:08):
and I'll hang up and listen.
Speaker 3 (01:09:09):
Oh that's a great question. It's hard for me to
say because let me give you the argument for the Rockets.
It was the first championship we ever had, and there
can only be one first, right, Yes. Uh. The argument
for baseball is that baseball buy and large, is a
(01:09:30):
more popular sport than basketball is in Houston.
Speaker 5 (01:09:35):
Yeah, the Rockets took over this town though in those days, as.
Speaker 3 (01:09:38):
You broughte about a four or five year stretch, for sure.
I mean the Rockets were always bragging about their sellout streak. Hell,
they even open up a gift shop at the Town
and Country Mall or Orylald City, one of the two.
It just sold gear all day long.
Speaker 5 (01:09:51):
And yeah, I remember that was a big deal. We
went there like he was like a family trip.
Speaker 3 (01:09:55):
It's like, Dad, you.
Speaker 5 (01:09:56):
Gotta take it to the rocket shop.
Speaker 3 (01:09:58):
The rocket shop, Yeah, back by rocket gear at the mall.
Speaker 5 (01:10:01):
Let's go, yeah, exactly, And that was a big deal
when I was a kid.
Speaker 3 (01:10:05):
Let's go and let's go over to foot locker. See
if it's any hot. Honey's selling me shoes.
Speaker 5 (01:10:09):
He's like yeah, yeah, Dad's like yeah, right, son, We're
going to pay less.
Speaker 3 (01:10:15):
Well, you're talking about nineteen ninety four, ninety five compared
to twenty seventeen, it feels like it's a different Well,
it is different. Yeah, uh.
Speaker 5 (01:10:25):
And I want to say the Astros kind of took
over the town kind of after that, you know what
I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (01:10:33):
I would I would lean a very small lean towards
the Rockets because it was the first time we ever
had a championship. It was the first downtown parade, it
was the first banner, it was the first Houston is
the Best, and it was during the heyday. Well, I mean,
obviously Jordan retired the first go around, but he was
(01:10:54):
around the second go around for sure.
Speaker 5 (01:10:56):
Yeah he was. People forget he was. He was dropping
fifty in the garden. He was just fine, just fine.
Speaker 3 (01:11:03):
Yeah. I would say Rossie a very very slight lean
towards the Rockets. But it doesn't mean the ass the
astros sustained success has been is more well documented and
glorified because of this run between seventeen and today, as
compared to the Rockets, where they you know, they tried
to go get Pippin, they tried to get Barkley, They
(01:11:25):
they tried.
Speaker 5 (01:11:25):
To turn old super fast.
Speaker 3 (01:11:27):
Yeah, they got old and cranky really quick. Yes, real cranky,
especially when it came to a Charles barklay in relationship
with Clyde and Scottie. All right, let's go to Philip
on seven Hinting in Pairland at eleven forty two. Scotty,
good morning or excuse me, Philip, good morning?
Speaker 11 (01:11:44):
Do you? Hey?
Speaker 15 (01:11:45):
Good morning?
Speaker 1 (01:11:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 15 (01:11:48):
With Bregman, I guess he's Coarraze s. He's a Boris client.
He signed a short term deal. He was younger though,
wasn't he.
Speaker 3 (01:11:58):
Yeah?
Speaker 15 (01:11:59):
Absolutely, yeah, Okay, Matt, I heard your call last night.
You have huge lungs, dude, My goodness. That was a
great ending to that the Rockets game I'm talking about Ross.
I listened to your show, but I ran out of gas.
I had nothing to call in or anything. But uh, yeah,
(01:12:19):
that was a great win, you know regarding uh, what
was my next thing here?
Speaker 10 (01:12:26):
Oh?
Speaker 15 (01:12:27):
The I think with Ryan I heard him too. I
think he was first saying what was it? Uh or maxing?
Speaker 3 (01:12:39):
But then I had what you're talking about because I
was the game, so I don't even know what it's all.
Speaker 15 (01:12:45):
Yeah, of course you wouldn't have heard it, Matt, but
then it changed to Max Horror. I don't know it
was Yeah, it was funny. I didn't know what he
was talking about at first. Regarding I'm and Thompson, Uh,
you know, I think he's more athletic than Clyde was
and Ego Dolla. I think he's he's more athletic than
(01:13:07):
Ego Dolla was too. I tell you, I lived in
Chicago for fifteen years, partly in the nineties, a lot
in the nineties, and I compare him to Michael Jordan.
I don't know if he's as competitive, but that Haman
Thompson is a disruptor. He seems to be playing in
a different time dimension. He's a marvel. I love watching him,
(01:13:31):
love watching the Rockets.
Speaker 3 (01:13:33):
Thank you Philip for the phone call. Yeah, Michael Jordan's
the second greatest or first greatest player of all time,
depending on how old you are and what your values are.
I'm gonna slow him in down a little bit. Let's
let him men become his own guy.
Speaker 5 (01:13:49):
He is his own guy.
Speaker 3 (01:13:50):
He is his own guy. He might be and again
he's got a long way to go, But is he
the most versatile Rocket maybe of all time? Oh can well,
I'm just saying throwing it out. There's a possibility.
Speaker 5 (01:14:04):
I'm gonna go with that. Chem Olaju one most versatile.
Speaker 3 (01:14:08):
Well he redefined a position. But but Clyde but but
a heemea were playing small forward?
Speaker 5 (01:14:13):
No, but he could guard it that he could I like,
I like coach Udoka's comparison, his twin brother.
Speaker 3 (01:14:25):
Oh, Aucer, he's not Bady t Alscer is pretty good too, now,
is it Aucer?
Speaker 5 (01:14:29):
I thought I've heard Asar as well, Sorr. Yeah, it's
all sorry, that's it, okay.
Speaker 3 (01:14:33):
Yeah, but he's also he's pretty good. He's a little
he's a little bigger in terms of weight wise than
the man, but not by money.
Speaker 5 (01:14:38):
A men can bowke up. He's young though, for sure.
Speaker 3 (01:14:40):
All Right, let's get some gut feelings in next eleven
forty five on Sports Talk seven.
Speaker 1 (01:14:44):
Ninety more Matt Thomas Show with Ross Now Sports Talk
seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (01:14:52):
Listen it up.
Speaker 4 (01:14:55):
So't that tumm you only got a gut dealer.
Speaker 5 (01:15:00):
This is their gut feeling on the Matt Thomas Show.
Speaker 3 (01:15:03):
All Right, we gotta make this a very quick segment
here because of the news at noon with some Dana
Brown audio from today's media availability at Ross. How do
we do last week?
Speaker 5 (01:15:13):
Yes, Matthew, looking at last week's gut feelings. You had
Bregman back on a short term deal, so we'll see.
I put, but would be utterly shocked if Bregman comes back.
Speaker 3 (01:15:28):
And utterly can still happen.
Speaker 10 (01:15:29):
It can be.
Speaker 3 (01:15:29):
You can still be utterly shocked.
Speaker 5 (01:15:30):
You can still be utterly shocked. But I still would
be utterly shocked. I'm gonna stick with that. You had
a Wimby as an All Star. It feels about right.
Speaker 3 (01:15:38):
Yep.
Speaker 5 (01:15:39):
Uh, you had the Rockets and Calves play on Wednesday.
They will not be postponed. They weren't.
Speaker 3 (01:15:46):
That's right, Okay, I forgot, but we were. We were
at snow covers last week.
Speaker 5 (01:15:50):
Yes, we were. I said, Bobby Slowick's days.
Speaker 3 (01:15:54):
Me too, it's a loss for me. Whoops.
Speaker 5 (01:15:56):
Yeah, I said, uh not, Sam Darnold not a Viking
by the end of the off season or by the
start of Week one. We'll see.
Speaker 3 (01:16:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:16:05):
And I said Bills and Eagles in the Super Bowl. Yeah,
I got a half right.
Speaker 3 (01:16:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:16:14):
Dan Matthews was here. He said both road teams win
for the Super Bowl. Neither road team won. Yeah, And
he had the Rockets splitting with the Calves and Jerry
Jones hiring Marcus Freeman as his head coach.
Speaker 3 (01:16:29):
That was weird. That's Dan, Come on, Dan, you'd be
better than that.
Speaker 5 (01:16:32):
Which, by the way, this is when before men Thompson
was a full time starter, or right when he was
a full time starter. I had a gut feeling of
men Thompson has the best career of the young Rockets core.
I'm feeling pretty good at three weeks out of that one.
Speaker 3 (01:16:43):
I think you're very good. That's an excellent call on
your part. Excellent work, all right, is that it? Yes, Connor,
you were winning out with us last week because you
were in Snowmageddon. So we're gonna let you go first
with some gut and feelings.
Speaker 19 (01:16:56):
What do you got, I'll say the Rockets win their
next three to go on a six game winning streak.
Speaker 5 (01:17:04):
They're gonna Yeah, they're gonna lose on Monday.
Speaker 3 (01:17:07):
Oh, they're not gonna win every game the rest of
the season, Matt, Relax, Come on, the Rockets are perfect.
Speaker 5 (01:17:17):
Sixty game Yeah, they're.
Speaker 3 (01:17:19):
Gonna win sixty five games. Thenumber one team in the
playoffs win the NBA Championship.
Speaker 5 (01:17:24):
Why did you go Catholic priests at the end.
Speaker 3 (01:17:26):
There.
Speaker 19 (01:17:26):
I always feel like I do that and I'll go
draw Johnson next Texans offense coordinator.
Speaker 3 (01:17:32):
Okay, see, I'm cooling on that because wouldn't it have
been done by now? No, I don't. I think they're
doing due diligence. Okay, I think Hannah told Dimiko to
have due diligence.
Speaker 5 (01:17:45):
Hannah's like, come on now, Demiko. Yeah, there's are there
certain well, Girad Johnson would fit Rooney requirements. I don't
know what it is with coordinators.
Speaker 3 (01:17:54):
No, I don't think they have to work better. Okay,
I don't know. I'm asking. By the way, I don't
think we'll ever mention Col's name again. Everything is being
done by Hannah. Let's just make sure we're very clear
about that.
Speaker 5 (01:18:05):
Cal's doing a great job.
Speaker 3 (01:18:06):
Cal's doing a great job staying out of Hanna's way.
Speaker 5 (01:18:09):
Mm, she's not. She's not mandating how many OC interviews
there are.
Speaker 3 (01:18:16):
No, but if Cal does, Hannah's like, go sit in
your chair, let me go, and I handle this all right?
Anything else from you, Connor, I think that's it all right.
Cougars beat West Virginia and Texas Tech this week Boom
Shaka Lackaye.
Speaker 5 (01:18:36):
They'd be heavily favorite in both games, right.
Speaker 3 (01:18:38):
I don't know. West Virginia can be a kind of
a tough spot to play in, you know, not literally hard.
Speaker 5 (01:18:44):
You gotta drive up some mountains there something.
Speaker 3 (01:18:46):
Apparently have to smoke cigarettes while you're playing the game.
For some reason, she was not allowed. Also, it's weird,
you know, and I believe keith are optional and when
you walk inside of the building. That's that we stereotype
here on this show. Never feeling, so I have. I'm
gonna go with We'll hold the gut feeling on the
super Bowl till next week. I will say top five
(01:19:09):
super Bowl watched ever this uh upc.
Speaker 5 (01:19:12):
Top It was boring and not interesting.
Speaker 3 (01:19:17):
To me, but not to not to Taylor Swifties Are
you kidding me? A chance to catch Swifty and Kendrick
Lamar in the in one?
Speaker 5 (01:19:24):
Oh man, You're right, actually might be top one. I'll
go with the guy I got my gut feeling. My
gut feeling is the Eagles win upset.
Speaker 3 (01:19:32):
What's up? I got a gut feeling that the officials
we talked about at nauseum during the game.
Speaker 5 (01:19:39):
Oh God, these officials better have a clean game. It
was minor in the Bills game, and still people made
a whole thing out of it.
Speaker 3 (01:19:47):
Yeah, all right, let's get to a couple of calls
here seven one, three, two, two, five, seven ninety. Let's
go to East Texas, Peter, what is in your gut
at eleven fifty five?
Speaker 10 (01:19:55):
Hey Matt, Hey, Ross.
Speaker 20 (01:19:57):
My gut feeling is within the the next five years,
the Houston Rockets will win not one but multiple Oh
my gosh. However it pans out just within the next
five years.
Speaker 3 (01:20:16):
Okay, I love the optimism.
Speaker 5 (01:20:18):
It could happen. Thunder are gonna be good for a while.
Celtics Calves are relatively young.
Speaker 3 (01:20:28):
Is Oklahoma City built for a title? Yes, they're filthy,
They're they're really, really, really good. Shake Kilches Alexander is
just immune from having an off game. Now, Hartenstein can
get in a.
Speaker 5 (01:20:40):
Foul trouble, but Chen holg is gonna come back.
Speaker 3 (01:20:43):
Holmegren's gonna get hurt in and out, so that could
impair things a little bit. Janen Williams is really good.
They do. It's one of the best perimeter defenders on
the planet. And you can knock down three point shooter.
He's not a great shooter. I thought he was.
Speaker 5 (01:20:56):
I thought he was knocking down the threes earlier this year.
Speaker 3 (01:20:58):
Not against the Rockets he hasn't, and maybe against everybody
else he has. But but I'm not. I'm right.
Speaker 5 (01:21:04):
I respect the hell are you shooting forty one percent
from three this year? He was thirty nine percent last year.
I'm gonna go with knockdown shooter.
Speaker 3 (01:21:11):
That's a fair assessment. I just haven't seen it myself personally, Memphis.
I think I still think I'm holding off on that
because I don't know if I trust John Moran to
lead a team as good as he is, or because
I think John Moran's got a few screws loose. Honestly, Okay,
(01:21:33):
I don't. I don't want my alpha dog having a
screws loose.
Speaker 6 (01:21:36):
Hmm.
Speaker 3 (01:21:38):
Well, that insight you can't. You can't get that insight
from any other sports caster in this marketplace. Okay, all right,
last call anything else? Anybody else, any of the three
of us. Mmm, I'll Prince Shongoon All Star.
Speaker 5 (01:21:53):
I will stick with ooh al Prince Shangoon All Stars?
Speaker 3 (01:21:56):
Can Can we sneak a man at the All Star Game?
Or is it too late? Probably too late.
Speaker 5 (01:22:00):
I'm gonna say Rockets don't have an All Star selected.
They might get an injury replacement or something.
Speaker 3 (01:22:10):
I'm gonna go Bregman doesn't sign with the Asters, I'm
sticking with that. So you're you're flipping from last week?
Did I really? I'm seriously? Am I really flipping that much?
Speaker 5 (01:22:19):
That's okay, it's good feelings. Good feelings change.
Speaker 3 (01:22:22):
I apologize.
Speaker 5 (01:22:24):
You try to shame me when I change my gut feelings.
I'm not gonna shame you, Matt, because it's just a
good feeling.
Speaker 3 (01:22:28):
Good feeling is that you're gonna hear from Dana Brown
here and you're gonna be like.
Speaker 5 (01:22:31):
Huh, I'm sticking with my Bregman, not an astro. Okay,
I don't know, man. He might come crawling back.
Speaker 3 (01:22:40):
Isn't it. But I don't want him to think it's
a crawl.
Speaker 5 (01:22:43):
Oh yeah, it's a crawl. I wanted to be at
He told him to shut there, my mess up six
and he might have to come back and take that
or less or a short term deal.
Speaker 3 (01:22:52):
Okay, not stupid, all right, all right, let's get to
those data Brown cuts. They'll be the lead story of

Show twelve O three in h Town what's happened in
lunch timer is good afternoon to you, and welcome to
hour number three of the Bat Thomas Show with Rawson
Here in Atlanta, where it's night. The Rockets are taking
on the Atlanta Hawks after last night's big win over
the Celtics. That will be part of, but not the
lead too, today's news at noon with some fresh Dana
(01:24:21):
Brown audio coming in the last hour here on Sports
Talk seven ninety. Yes, Matthew, a lot of different stuff
to get to her here all the news at noon,
but hunt off the presses. As you mentioned, Dana Brown
speaking with the media after the trade involving Ryan Presley.
(01:24:42):
First up, what would it take for jose L Duve
to be in left field.
Speaker 21 (01:24:47):
For the most part, It would be with it with
an addition, but look, if we put him in last
and he starts to work out there and it looks
good and may give us some flexibility, uh and versatility
in our lineup.
Speaker 9 (01:25:02):
But you know, initially I would.
Speaker 21 (01:25:05):
Say, you know, look it we're if we have a
chance to make some additions. Uh, you know, it's nice
to see what he looks like in left field. So
I think that's probably more of the thought process. But
you know, if he looks good out there, you know
we could actually leave him out there and improve second
(01:25:25):
base as well.
Speaker 9 (01:25:26):
But I think more so.
Speaker 21 (01:25:27):
It's you know, based on some of our thought process
and when it comes to editions.
Speaker 5 (01:25:35):
Is Hozel to a left field gonna happen?
Speaker 14 (01:25:37):
Now?
Speaker 3 (01:25:39):
Maybe that wasn't a AI out there in left field yesterday.
You never know.
Speaker 5 (01:25:46):
No, it's an alto a Matt. It's different.
Speaker 3 (01:25:48):
Was there a wasn't there a comment? I want to hear? Oh?
Go with Dana brown cut five? This is a good
this is a good one. I think it's just gonna
be interesting. Now you've not this, I have not or notice,
but I'm trying to read between the Twitter streets where
people are interpreting. So here's Dana Brown on still having
(01:26:09):
conversations about Alex Bregman, involving Scott Boris in the conversation
as well.
Speaker 21 (01:26:15):
We we've talked internally about you know, him still being available,
and so we are definitely having conversations within our front office.
We haven't reached back out the Borers. At some point
it could it could turn to that. I know that
(01:26:36):
we're taking a deep look at what it would look
like if we acquired him, and you know, how would
it have look for us financially? Does it make sense
to do it? You know, we know that he's a
talented player. We'd love to have him, but we were
I would mostly say it's all internal conversations as.
Speaker 9 (01:26:57):
To you know, what we would like to do in terms. Bregman, Well,
I'll Boris a call. He got me.
Speaker 21 (01:27:03):
He sent me a text you know today, so I'll
probably end up getting back to him.
Speaker 9 (01:27:09):
But I would leave it at that. We've talked.
Speaker 5 (01:27:13):
Sorry, there's a loop issue. Go ahead, Matt, So.
Speaker 3 (01:27:21):
I love Dana.
Speaker 5 (01:27:22):
I I he ain't happening. He ain't have Scott a phone.
He's texting me and.
Speaker 3 (01:27:28):
Him that he might get back to him today see.
Speaker 5 (01:27:31):
Later, Alex Bregman, there's no way. There's no way he
can be saying we're not even calling the dude back.
We haven't re engaged with Scott Boris. There's been only internal,
uh discussions, and it only makes sense if it makes
sense financially. Now they dumped Ryan Presley to get under
a certain threshold, they're going to maybe sign Hori Polanco
to a cheap deal, and that's going to be that again.
(01:27:53):
I would be utterly shocked if they resigned Bregman, you.
Speaker 3 (01:27:57):
Said, don't get he doesn't get the vibe off of
what you had at to fan Fest and what you
just said right there, that it makes people sound encouraged
by it.
Speaker 5 (01:28:04):
Right, it was the same vibe. He said. Yeah, he
said they hadn't even the discussions have only been internal.
If you're really wouldn't you really be negotiating and talking.
I think he's saying that. It's kind of it's like
a he's putting out a signal. He's saying, Yeah, we
haven't talked to Scott Boris. Don't you think if we
were going to resign him, we had to talk to
Scott Boris.
Speaker 3 (01:28:21):
Let me ask you this, If Scott Boris text you,
don't you like because you're gonna have a relationship with
him the rest of your life Him Crane might not,
and it may not be on Alex's pregnant, but you
may have a client like Hunter Brown's signed with Scott Boris? Right, yes,
(01:28:44):
And do you want to have a try to get
back to him today? Yeah, when it's you'd be having
this conversation about Hunter Brown a couple of years from now,
it's kind of weird.
Speaker 5 (01:28:55):
Scott bors said, what was Hunter Brown's second half? I
are okay, Yeah, let's get that guy signed up.
Speaker 3 (01:29:00):
I remember it could could Hunter be like?
Speaker 6 (01:29:03):
No?
Speaker 3 (01:29:03):
Hunter good? Scott Boris, Hey, uh gets a text from Dana. Hey,
it's me Dan. Remember we were talked about braging a
couple of years ago. Would Scott Boris want to respond back?
Who new phone? Who is?
Speaker 6 (01:29:14):
No?
Speaker 3 (01:29:16):
I'll get back to Memblater today. Maybe I own a
phone call.
Speaker 5 (01:29:19):
If there's money to be made, Scott Boris is gonna
make it.
Speaker 3 (01:29:22):
But don't you don't you? My point is, don't you
call him right away? I mean, it's some middle manager.
He's the most powerful sports agent in Major League Baseball. Now,
he's had some better times in the last few years,
and then he's had the last two offseasons, but he's
still damn powerful. I mean, did sign Juan Soto to
a six gazillion dollar contract? Yeah, Dana's not being flipping.
(01:29:48):
I just think he's saying, please read what I'm trying
to tell you. We're not moving off of six one
fifty six. Even if we're and maybe weren't, you can't
even confirm that we're still on.
Speaker 5 (01:29:58):
They can't even do that now with after the Walkers
signing and everything.
Speaker 3 (01:30:02):
Yeah, all right, anything else in the news at noon?
Speaker 5 (01:30:06):
Uh yeah, Matt, we can go some more on the
news at noon. How about let's just make you happy
with some more of yourself?
Speaker 3 (01:30:13):
Oh yeah, for sure. A lot another about for vanble
to a man Thompson daviling hero stack.
Speaker 1 (01:30:18):
For the win.
Speaker 4 (01:30:19):
He got it with seven tenths of a second.
Speaker 3 (01:30:23):
He hit the five footer gathering pitch and launches in
the game and do.
Speaker 4 (01:30:29):
Good off the top of the Backbard and the Rockets
wet it in Boston right down the middle of the lane.
It's a game winner for AVN and another huge Road
Rockets win.
Speaker 3 (01:30:50):
Oh my goodness. You're the p announcement and background promoting
the next game coming up. He's like, you can't go.
You can't move fast enough away from this game.
Speaker 5 (01:30:58):
Buy your tickets, folks, And.
Speaker 3 (01:31:03):
That's crazy if you can't. That was that was me
being purely organic me. I mean, there are some people
that that intentionally downplay a big call out that which
I'm like, man, why are you in the business that
you're You're in the business to create some emotion and
excitement for your audience, and that was as exciting as
it got. Back and forth game super big heavyweight, defending
(01:31:26):
world champions a title contender again in the East, and
you've had a great week. Men, Thompson's I mean basically
becoming a starbuck before our eyes.
Speaker 5 (01:31:38):
Yeah, he's getting a lot of national recognition, Matt. Would
you like to hear from let's say, formerly of ESPN,
Zach Lowe A Men, Thompson's combination of athleticism, size and
strength is absolutely overwhelming. Houston can put out some lineups,
especially with both Terror twins, with the mix of speed,
strength and fight just feels socating.
Speaker 3 (01:32:00):
Yep.
Speaker 5 (01:32:01):
He compares them to the young Russ Ebacha, Kevin Durant
Thunder in terms of sheer, force and speed. Sam Vessini
also saying I'm in Thompson is like laughably good, already
top five defender in the league, can basically play the
entire game because he never gets tired, elite in transition,
elite rebounder, great passer, great finisher, just helps your team
(01:32:25):
in so many different ways.
Speaker 3 (01:32:28):
He's like he's getting five star Google reviews every day. Bye.
Speaker 5 (01:32:32):
Yeah, By guys whose job it is to watch NBA basketball. Yeah,
it's great, it feels good.
Speaker 3 (01:32:37):
Bye man our friend of the show, Klesel, who wants
a shout out on the show. You get one, by
the way, cleaseel. He also says, you know, we're always
trying to find the comp today's this hour's cop of
the data on Met Thompson, a young Magic Johnson. All right,
just throwing it out. Just Clazelle wanted a shout outs,
We got it, and he wanted me to mention him.
Speaker 5 (01:32:56):
You know what, I think he's more of a mix
of Magic Johnson with Mike Jordan, and he's got a
little bit of Cream and Wilton in his way. Yeah,
I would say some Kobe and like young Lebron as well.
Speaker 3 (01:33:07):
Yeah, a lot of Lebron, a lot of Oscar Robertson
for old school, and he's got a small tinge of
Jerry West. In fact, I believe the logo is gonna
be a Man Thompson over Jerry West before you know it.
Speaker 6 (01:33:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:33:20):
Actually I'll compare him to Iron Man with a full
iron suit.
Speaker 3 (01:33:24):
He's more like.
Speaker 5 (01:33:25):
Shazamne really yeah, the Shaquille O'Neil one.
Speaker 3 (01:33:30):
No, Shazam isn't like the uh superhero. Oh Okay, he's
also part of Aquaman, and I believe he's also one
half of the Wonder Twins. Actually, he literally is a
Wonder Twins. He really is. You know what I you
know what is funny is that I love him. He's
such a nice young man. He's nice, and he's hilarious.
He's very funny. He's very funny. He's he's just I mean,
(01:33:54):
and look, I'm closer to these guys because I mean guys,
I'm with him every single game for the endmet Road.
They're like, they're are likable. Now, they're not gonna go
out in hosts a Variety Hour, but they're utterly likable.
And Dylan brings out a little bit of that, you know,
like when porzingis slammed over Dylan Brooks and then that
gots a technical foul for Tauntingham. Dylan's like mission accomplished.
(01:34:17):
Bch and and and a man will throw hands, and
a man will also take down Tyler Hero.
Speaker 5 (01:34:23):
He will hip toss Tyler Hero Tasha like Ama like
he's a rag doll.
Speaker 3 (01:34:27):
Yeah, exactly exactly.
Speaker 5 (01:34:30):
And that's your news at noon.
Speaker 3 (01:34:32):
All right, seven one three two one two five seven
ninety seven one three two, one two, five, seven ninety
twelve fourteen. It is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross
We could return on your phone calls bottom of the hour.
NFL rewind Is there anything going on? Rewindable? It's gotta
be right. It's always NFL season. Yes, none to do

(01:34:54):
Dana Brown Cuts. We'll play, We'll talk some more about
the Rockets. We'll talk about more about Fregman and is
perceived value all that coming up here on Sports Talk
seven nineteen.
Speaker 1 (01:35:04):
Back to Matt Thomas and Ross via Real on Sports
Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (01:35:12):
You know, I was thinking during the break, Rossie, winning
is fun. Winning gets people excited. And we've had a
really good show today with uh lots of car interaction
which means less of you, which is always a good thing.
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven ninety So come
on in. Don't be afraid. We got a lot of
(01:35:33):
little interesting nuggets to get to in terms of top
of conversations, whether it be about the Rockets huge win
against Celtics last night, the play Atlanta here tonight we'll
have this show. Who's got the launch pad? At five
point thirty? Was it one of the Adams?
Speaker 5 (01:35:47):
Uh? I think I thought it was Dan Matthews. What
times the game?
Speaker 3 (01:35:52):
Uh? Six thirty?
Speaker 5 (01:35:53):
Oh, maybe he's on post. I think he's Dan on
post in one of the atoms on pregame.
Speaker 11 (01:35:57):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:35:57):
So, so one of the Adams will not be on
the post game.
Speaker 5 (01:36:00):
I just know him out here at two o'clock and
I'm never coming back for the rest of the day.
Speaker 3 (01:36:04):
You'll be back tomorrow tenn again, you know what I mean? Yeah,
because tomorrow I'm off tomorrow. Oh what we are leaving
in the middle of the day. Sadly, geez, I got
serious n angel drainage here too. I'm sorry. Yeah, it's
like flowing out of my nose.
Speaker 5 (01:36:19):
Alright. We don't need to know this well, I mean,
I'm trying to. It's that time of year I've been having.
I've had a bad cough the last few days as well.
Speaker 3 (01:36:26):
Well. I mean I I.
Speaker 5 (01:36:27):
I've been trying to wipe everything down for Adam Wexer.
Speaker 3 (01:36:30):
Oh don't want him.
Speaker 5 (01:36:30):
I don't want to get him sick. That means like
he's gonna get mad.
Speaker 3 (01:36:33):
Yeah, he will. He'll look at you sideye too.
Speaker 5 (01:36:36):
Yeah. You know you don't want to see Surley Wex,
even though we see it every day.
Speaker 3 (01:36:39):
I was gonna say, Surley Wex is like the sun
rising in the morning.
Speaker 5 (01:36:42):
That's true.
Speaker 3 (01:36:43):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety twelve twenty.
Here on the program we called them att Thomas Show
a Ross seven to one three two one two five
seven ninety. Let's talk to some more people and we'll
start today in line number one. As I pot up
the call here here with Mike and Cyprus, Mike, good afternoon,
Thanks for winning than.
Speaker 11 (01:37:04):
Good asking guys. A couple of things. First off, man,
I grew up listening to Geene petersonper radio before you
did watch home games. Last night's call was one of
the more exciting calls I've heard uh in quite a while.
That was a great ending of the game. He did
a fantastic game. There was a lot of fun. There
(01:37:24):
was a lot of fun. It's making me really want
to start listening to the Rockets more often.
Speaker 3 (01:37:29):
Again, that's great.
Speaker 11 (01:37:32):
You're welcome, and I want to also comment on the
Scott Morris comment from earlier. I absolutely love what Dana
Brown did there. And I know you have to deal
and have a relationship with with Boris, but man, it's
kind to get to a point to where you know,
he he does this over and over and and just
there's a very little queshment. I think that I would
(01:37:55):
like to can't flude and you know, get together. But
it's about time that you know, he's he's sitting there.
He's a reputation for it, and that's great for his
clients to get that. But these contracts never seem to
work out for the team, only the individual. And uh,
don't Dane the Brown's negotiating tactics. Uh it's just play
(01:38:17):
a little hornball, I think. And uh yeah, I don't know.
I kind of like it. Ways responded to and I
was laughing, you know at the comment of it was hilarious.
Speaker 3 (01:38:27):
Well, you know, the funny thing is that Mike, he's
talking about it being internally. I mean, is is Dana
waiting for him to change his own mind or is
he waiting for somebody internally within the organization to change
their mind, Because it feels like to me they probably
sat around a lot when Freeingsy first began and said
what are we willing to pay to keep Alex here?
(01:38:49):
And I don't know if all of a sudden, out
in the middle of nowhere, someone wakes up and says, Hey,
I'm going to go to our next meeting with all
the back baseball operations, folks, I think we should bump
up pregnant of six one eighty one. I'm curious what
they what that means by internal negotiator or conversations.
Speaker 11 (01:39:05):
I think Jim Craid's probably done a little bit of
negotiating in his lifetime. He might just know that he
possibly as he her hands here, and I believe he does.
And maybe he's gonna get a little bit closer to
where Alex. Yeah, he's gonna get where he was willing
to go versus what Borse and Alex thought they were
going to possibly get into the beginning involved free agency stuff.
(01:39:27):
So we'll see. But it's interesting. It's definitely different, you know.
So we appreciate, appreciate you.
Speaker 3 (01:39:32):
Let me call thank you very much. I'm going to
get your special guests here. Hang on one second, Ross talk.
Speaker 5 (01:39:37):
For okay, great. I believe that would be Craig Ackerman,
the TV voice of your Houston Rockets. I believe it's
coining new terms that are just going everywhere and going
viral in the NBA world. With the Rockets winning last
night against the Boston Celtics after back to back wins
over the Cleveland Cavaliers, so I can hear. Craig Ackerman
(01:40:00):
also has the oddest like he preferences of random things.
I think he's putting on the headset right now.
Speaker 22 (01:40:06):
Oh my gosh, we're on right now.
Speaker 5 (01:40:08):
Yes, okay, this is brought to you by by Ranch Dressing.
Speaker 22 (01:40:13):
Oh please not please know.
Speaker 5 (01:40:15):
Hey, Craig, how's it going. Great job on the call
as always.
Speaker 22 (01:40:17):
Oh, thank you. I appreciate it. I'm a little sleepy,
to be honest with you.
Speaker 5 (01:40:20):
Yeah, I know. At least you're not whining about it
on Twitter like Matt.
Speaker 22 (01:40:24):
Well, you know, he is fancy Matt. And I did.
Speaker 23 (01:40:27):
I did fulfill his request. Gave him some bonus bacon
he asked. He asked for croissant, uh, and I didn't
see any, So.
Speaker 22 (01:40:35):
I got him toast.
Speaker 23 (01:40:35):
I didn't know what kind of toast, so I got
him a I got him a piece of white and
wheat toast with strawberry and grape jelly.
Speaker 22 (01:40:44):
And bonus Bacon.
Speaker 5 (01:40:45):
How many times has he complained about what some what
you picked up or something you've done?
Speaker 22 (01:40:48):
No, not at all.
Speaker 5 (01:40:49):
That's good, that's great.
Speaker 6 (01:40:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:40:51):
Uh so you are you are bringing this?
Speaker 14 (01:40:53):
Is?
Speaker 3 (01:40:53):
Do I have this?
Speaker 5 (01:40:54):
Correct?
Speaker 3 (01:40:54):
You're bringing this because you are superstitious and you think
this is going to help the Rockets win.
Speaker 22 (01:40:59):
Not necessarily.
Speaker 13 (01:41:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 23 (01:41:00):
He did ask me yesterday, hey, would you would you know, uh,
if you wouldn't mind, would you grab me this and this?
And because obviously the team brunch is going on during
the middle of the show most of the time, and
I said, sure, I'll bring you something yesterday. And then
I was actually the one, just because I'm a nice guy.
I reached out to Matta, text him and said, hey,
do you want me to bring you something again? He said, yeah,
that'd be great, Thank you.
Speaker 5 (01:41:20):
Som Okay, Now, since you you are on here on
the Matt Thomas Show with Ross here on Sports Talk
seven y, I want to ask you, since you travel
with Matt, is there any sort of like true You
know people everybody has their travel quirks, like something they do,
I don't know, with their luggage or something as they
go along. Is there any travel quirks you can tell
us about that Matt Thomas has.
Speaker 23 (01:41:39):
I mean, I guess the biggest travel quirk is that
he's a degenerate gambler.
Speaker 5 (01:41:43):
Yeah, that's true. He goes, he goes to the casino
everywhere I'll go. You're not a gambling man, are you?
Speaker 3 (01:41:48):
Uh?
Speaker 22 (01:41:48):
No, I am not. Now he doesn't.
Speaker 23 (01:41:50):
He doesn't go to as many casinos as he used
to because his his gambling buddies are no longer a
part of the traveling party.
Speaker 22 (01:41:58):
But he does heart take.
Speaker 23 (01:42:00):
He did go in Boston, and then he did go
in We're in Cleveland too, so he's he's gone to
two different places on this trip so far.
Speaker 22 (01:42:07):
Are you going matter? Are you gonna go to Tutica?
Speaker 23 (01:42:09):
No, he's not going to Tunica when we get to Memphis,
or I'm not going to Memphis, but he is.
Speaker 5 (01:42:13):
Why don't you do you ever go to the casino
with him?
Speaker 22 (01:42:15):
I have gone a couple of times.
Speaker 23 (01:42:17):
I've been to one with him in Miami and then
that's actually it's Hollywood, Florida actually uh. And then I've
obviously New Orleans. I think there might have been another
casino or two. I mean, if I do go with him, uh,
it's because I really have nothing else to do, and
I just kind of want to hang out to be alone,
so I just kind of watch him gamble.
Speaker 5 (01:42:38):
Okay, let's actually quickly talk some Rockets basketball to me.
Craig and I just tweeted this out at sports RV.
See I'm learning from Matt. Everybody tries to come up
with a comp for a men Thompson. I've heard Bean
Poles on in Williamson, I've heard andre Igdala, but Score
this like, to me, none of them fit, none of
them were close. He's like a one of one what
we're seeing right now on the floor from a men Thompson.
Speaker 23 (01:42:58):
Yeah, I will say this. I think Ryan has brought
Sean Marion quite a bit. And Sean Marion.
Speaker 5 (01:43:04):
Was as that, a really good.
Speaker 23 (01:43:06):
Basketball player who who was very very athletic, built similarly
to that. But I think a man ultimately is sort
of a uh one of one. I mean too, especially
in the modern age. To affect the game as positively
as he does when he just does not have a
reliable jumper is pretty amazing. I mean, it just doesn't
(01:43:28):
happen very on very often unless you know you're a
guy like Shangoon who can play with his back to
the basket and you've got counters to counters and things
like that.
Speaker 22 (01:43:38):
So he has a very unusual talent.
Speaker 23 (01:43:40):
But obviously he's a he's a very high end one
and he's a great, great young man.
Speaker 5 (01:43:44):
Yeah, he's great. He's funny. We've had him on an
interviews and he's really fun to watch. And obviously, I
mean it's just it's chalk at this point that he's
gonna stay in the starting lineup. But what do you
think that means for Jabari Smith Jr. Who does have
value as someone who can knock down threes, can guard
one through five, and he Mayodoka likes to use switchable defenders,
which Jabari Smith Junior is well.
Speaker 23 (01:44:04):
The Rockets love Jabaris Smith Junior when he gets healthy.
Obviously that's something they'll address once he gets back from
the back from the broken hand. But he helps them out
with rebounding and weak side help side defense and obviously
his ability to stretch the floor. There's there's a place
for Jabari on this roster. I still wish you were
healthy and playing right now. It's unfortunate that he is not,
(01:44:26):
but he is definitely you know, somebody that the coaches
want to have on the floor, and he's got terrific size,
and again, he does bring some things to this team
that some other guys on this roster don't. So once
he does get healthy, then this roster will get even
you know, potentially more dangerous because you're gonna add again
another young guy. And he was just kind of rounding
into form too before he had that freak accident at
(01:44:48):
shoot around before the last Boston game at home.
Speaker 22 (01:44:51):
But I like him. He's another great, great young man too.
Speaker 23 (01:44:54):
And again it's it's a good problem to have when
you have a lot of talent out there and you
got to try to find way to get them all
the all on the floor.
Speaker 5 (01:45:02):
Forty five games in Rockets and two seasons the West,
how does it feel.
Speaker 22 (01:45:05):
It feels great.
Speaker 23 (01:45:06):
I mean, I don't I knew this team would be
better this year, but I don't think even the the
best of optimists would have thought that the Rockets would
be where they are now. Look, this is one of
the best records this franchise has had ever, you know,
through forty five games. So this is not only are
they good for this group and where they have come from,
but historically.
Speaker 22 (01:45:25):
Speaking, they're really really playing well.
Speaker 23 (01:45:28):
And again I thought they would be better this year,
but I don't think anybody saw this coming.
Speaker 22 (01:45:33):
It's been it's been a lot of fun.
Speaker 23 (01:45:34):
Obviously, there's still you know, another half of the season
to go and and whatever happens to that. The playoffs
are a process and that will be you know, that
will be a learning curve for these young guys, but
I guess we'll tackle that winning if they ultimately get there.
But so far, so good. They're they're they're they're winning
games on a lot of nights. Obviously last night they
were able to outshoot Boston because of Dylan Brooks.
Speaker 22 (01:45:57):
But they've won so many games this year.
Speaker 23 (01:45:59):
And again, in the modern game, if you can't beat
teams from the three point line, it's so hard to win.
But they have won so many games this season where
they have been so badly outshot from three. It's just
a testament to how hard they play, how they've managed
to develop other ways to win games, how they defend,
how they rebound, how they crash the offensive glass.
Speaker 22 (01:46:20):
So it's been fun.
Speaker 5 (01:46:22):
Craig Ackerman, your TV voice for your Houston Rockets. Special
guests in the Matt Thomas show. We've got to kick
you off now, Craig, before Matt starts getting jealous.
Speaker 22 (01:46:29):
Plus, I've been in his room far too long.
Speaker 5 (01:46:31):
Oh I know. I hope he's fully clothed.
Speaker 22 (01:46:34):
He is, trust me, Oh, thank god, and he is
eating his bacon.
Speaker 5 (01:46:38):
All right, Craig, great job on the call as always. Well, well,
keep talking to you.
Speaker 22 (01:46:41):
Down the road, all right, appreciate it, take care. There
we go.
Speaker 5 (01:46:43):
Matt Thomas has to come back now. I don't even
know how we're doing this.
Speaker 3 (01:46:47):
We've never done a guest on the same headset as
Matt Thomas when he's with the Rockets, so I don't
know if we're going to break here.
Speaker 5 (01:46:52):
If Matt's coming back, I think he is. Okay, Actually
I'm being told to break, so let's go ahead and
do that. Well, while we do that, I need to
tell you where you need to go to get your
energy up. It's almost the end of January. Have you

Loss lunchtimers Lunch Timers. It's Thomas Show with Ross on
Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (01:48:07):
Thank you so much for Craig Ackerman for making a
surprise appearance on the show. Actually I didn't surprise while
I said you come in, You're gonna do a segment
with Ross. How was the segment? Was it? Ratings grabber
for the audience, would you walk out, No, I was
eating making and toast.
Speaker 5 (01:48:21):
You were eating the whole the whole time. Yeah, oh okay, huh.
Speaker 3 (01:48:26):
I almost feel like we should get a mid day
snack in between segments, so like you would take a
segment off to eat.
Speaker 5 (01:48:31):
I would take oh yeah, because it's like a four
hour show. Yeah, during the time, we gotcha. We can't
eat the middle of the day. Who doesn't eat between
ten and two? I know, I'm trying.
Speaker 3 (01:48:43):
I'm trying to figure out a whole routine.
Speaker 5 (01:48:44):
Maybe breakfast for mid show snack because I'm starving usually
by two o'clock. I'm not going anybody shedding tears for us, Matt.
Speaker 3 (01:48:51):
This is I mean, this is a new trend. Now.
Craig's brought me two straight midday snacks. Wow, look it
look what happened last night. Maybe we'll get a good
fortune tonight. So I put I sent a text out
to Vanessa and to Ryan. They're gonna rotate bringing me
food for on the next trip. M Okay. I don't
know how it's gonna be received by them, but I
(01:49:11):
just want to put that out there.
Speaker 5 (01:49:13):
Okay, Matt, why we can get to a quick NFL
re Ryan, we'll talk about it. Let's get it, and
we do have a lot of news and notes to
get to on the NFL. But of course the games
over the weekend, Commanders give up fifty five points to
the Philadelphia Eagles, twenty three just scored by them. Jade
Daniels was good, but not great. They lost too many fumbles.
(01:49:35):
That was the story in this one. I mean, it
kind of hurts if you are the Commanders that you're big,
this big underdog, and you're supposed to go in there
and give me your best four turnovers to zero. And
I think that's been the discussion point in a lot
of these playoff games, Matt. It's been generally the team
that's won the turnover battle has won.
Speaker 3 (01:49:53):
Yep. I don't anticipate there being a high turnover game
in the Super Bowl. Matter of fact, I'm musa set
the over under on turnover one and a half. What
do you want, Oh, I'll go over. You've taken over
one and a half.
Speaker 5 (01:50:04):
Yeah, sure, two and a half. We will maybe have
a discussion. It just feels like somebody can throw a pick,
you can get a fumble. It can happen.
Speaker 3 (01:50:09):
I have a deflection or something like that.
Speaker 5 (01:50:11):
Only one turnover in the Bills Chiefs game, one turnover
committed by the Kansas City Chiefs. They also did get
out gained by the Buffalo Bills. Though Josh Allen, apparently
the news coming out that he had had that hurt
wrist all season long, probably not going to participate in
the Pro Bowl after suffering the injury well in the
(01:50:32):
middle of the season and dealing with it. It was
on his non throwing hand, but probably gonna keep him
out of the Pro Bowl.
Speaker 3 (01:50:36):
Oh you know what we say here on Sports Talk seven, Honey, Rossie,
we love the Pro Bowl. Just say no to the
Pro Bowl.
Speaker 5 (01:50:43):
Why it sucks? What sucks about it?
Speaker 3 (01:50:45):
Everything?
Speaker 5 (01:50:47):
It's fine, I'll flip it on. I'm not gonna act.
Speaker 3 (01:50:49):
I'm gonna tell you right now.
Speaker 5 (01:50:50):
We can tell me right now.
Speaker 3 (01:50:51):
That's my witness. I'm not watching one iota of it
at all. Zero ydota. Okay, you don't very much on
a radio show. I just did.
Speaker 5 (01:51:00):
You're you're not a high iota guy. But that's okay, Matt.
We still appreciate you.
Speaker 3 (01:51:06):
All right.
Speaker 5 (01:51:07):
Let's move it along here with some other news going
on in the NFL. The Dallas Cowboys Matt have hired
their defensive coordinator. Do you see who it was?
Speaker 3 (01:51:21):
No, Matt Eberflus, Oh no, the ex Bears head coach.
Speaker 5 (01:51:26):
This is a good formula. We talked about this. You
get a head coach to run the offense, you get
some fired defensive coach who's not necessarily gonna get hired away,
immediately have him as your defensive coordinator. I think, I mean,
Matt Eberflus was a highly thought of defensive coordinator before
getting the Chicago Bears job. So Brian Schottenheimer offense, Matt
Eberflus defense for the Dallas Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (01:51:49):
Look, I'm okay with phil head coaches getting their second
chances as coordinators. I think that I think you get
to rebuild yourself. And you know, you were a hot comeout.
It so because you were an excellent coordinator. So I
don't think it's a bad decision at all.
Speaker 5 (01:52:04):
Tall right, let's keep it moving along, Matt. Did you
see the introductory press conference for Liam Cohen?
Speaker 3 (01:52:10):
I am so happy you found this sunmuch uh.
Speaker 5 (01:52:14):
Liam Cohen introduced as the Jaguars head coach and the
guy just has swag for days. Matt Jacksonville, Dick community Duvo. Well,
give me a one to ten on the swag meter,
Matt on that.
Speaker 3 (01:52:31):
One about point three. I think if you were gonna
I've never been to the Jacksonville.
Speaker 5 (01:52:37):
Before, I'm gonna ask me.
Speaker 3 (01:52:40):
I think you're supposed to go Duvall.
Speaker 5 (01:52:43):
Can you guess the first thing I thought of when
I heard that bit of audio. I'll give you a hint.
It relates to this show and a segment on this show.
Speaker 3 (01:52:51):
I just don't get.
Speaker 5 (01:52:52):
It, mosses mattin five.
Speaker 3 (01:52:57):
Oh, no, you're gonna play that over.
Speaker 5 (01:52:59):
If they're sound bite, you know what you're gonna hear Jacksonville,
the community duv the second there in the roten five
you're gonna hear that sound bite?
Speaker 3 (01:53:11):
Now? Is Duval?
Speaker 6 (01:53:12):
Is that?
Speaker 5 (01:53:12):
Is that a high end part of town? Or is
it is there in Duval County? I believe Oh, I'd
be like if it was like Harris, you know, we
gotta do ross what there's your Google will believe it
or not?
Speaker 3 (01:53:23):
Today? Oh?
Speaker 5 (01:53:23):
Duval County?
Speaker 3 (01:53:24):
No?
Speaker 5 (01:53:25):
Like, oh what county?
Speaker 10 (01:53:26):
Is there?
Speaker 5 (01:53:26):
Every team in?
Speaker 6 (01:53:27):
No?
Speaker 3 (01:53:28):
Yeah, that's a good yeah. So don't go looking at
it now. Don't spend your time on what you need
to doing.
Speaker 5 (01:53:33):
Oh yeah, man, you're very very google. That's okay, nobody's
being an hour.
Speaker 3 (01:53:37):
All right, we can do it.
Speaker 5 (01:53:38):
We did Atlanta I think when you were there last time.
Speaker 3 (01:53:40):
Yeah, so let's do it. I think County County Believe
or not is all good. I'm onne for that.
Speaker 5 (01:53:44):
Okay, quick rider to the Liam Cohen press conference. Ownershod
Con says the Jaguars will have a general manager by
the end of February.
Speaker 3 (01:53:55):
That's like a full month. It takes a month to
get a general manager. Yes, that's odd. A whole month
to figure out the most important front office position your team,
and you're gonna take another extra thirty days to make
that happen. Yes, they're just a trash organization. They have
(01:54:19):
a bad wrestling His son spends a lot of money
on bad wrestling, and his teams plays in a sucky city,
in a terrible stadium and un winnable division that they
can't win, and their quarterback is not generational that they're great.
Speaker 5 (01:54:31):
Two interviews for the Texans for their offensive coordinator position YEP.
Syracuse offensive coordinator Jeff Nixon interviewed Syracuse offense had been
very good this year. Com McCord leading Kyle McCord, the
Orange quarterback leading the NCAA in passing yards.
Speaker 3 (01:54:48):
Is he gonna be as smarming as most Syracuse grads are?
Speaker 5 (01:54:52):
I don't think Jeff Nixon is a Syracuse grad, but
he was coaching.
Speaker 3 (01:54:55):
There, so he does. He gets a he gets a
shot there.
Speaker 5 (01:54:58):
And then the internal candidate draw je And also, you ready.
Speaker 3 (01:55:03):
Got feeling on the offensive coordinator.
Speaker 5 (01:55:06):
Sure, I mean, jaw Johnson, we already made a bet.
You gave me, we bet a dollar. I took JIAW. Johnson,
you got the field. Okay, that's bet which felt like fitz.
No eh, maybe we'll see.
Speaker 3 (01:55:20):
That seems like fair value on both sides. Sure, why not?
Speaker 5 (01:55:24):
All right, I'm trying to look up where. Yeah, uh,
Jeff Nixon played college football at West Virginia and Penn State.
Speaker 3 (01:55:33):
So he smoked cigarettes while playing on the offensive line.
Speaker 5 (01:55:35):
No, he wasn't an offensive lineman. Don't think I just
said he played college football at West Virginia and Penn State.
He was on the Dean's list in the Big Ten
All Academic Conference recognition.
Speaker 3 (01:55:49):
So we never played.
Speaker 5 (01:55:50):
He got a degree in Penn State in elementary education.
Speaker 3 (01:55:52):
Definitely never played. Yeah, maybe right, And that's your NFL
rewind love you, I love it. It's a great part
of our Tuesday segment. That's gonna be fifty two weeks
here except for the weeks that you're gone.
Speaker 5 (01:56:06):
Let's go.
Speaker 3 (01:56:07):
Oh you know, we'll let Connor do the NFL reads.
Speaker 5 (01:56:08):
Yeah, let him do it.
Speaker 3 (01:56:09):
And then if Connor's gone, then Dan will do it.
And if Dan's gone then and we won't do it.
Skip it all right? Okay, we go twelve forty three
sports talks every night. We have an hour and fifteen
minutes left to go in the show. Today, we've had
an action pack show. We've had a lot of fun,
a lot of rocket chatter to get to uh we've
(01:56:30):
had so far. If you want to get in on
brag about your local basketball team putting together one hillaciously
successful performance against the Boston Celtics, let's get into it
right now at seven one three two one two five

listen to audio and read the tea leaves on that
is that where you read tea leaves? Yes, okay, are
you good? Does he leave reader?
Speaker 5 (01:57:01):
I think I'm pretty good at it. Reading between the lines.
Speaker 3 (01:57:04):
You know what. Give me some more cliche terms for
trying to interpret things.
Speaker 5 (01:57:11):
Let's see reading the tree leaves, reading between the lines?
Speaker 3 (01:57:13):
Yeah, sizing it up?
Speaker 5 (01:57:15):
Okay, Okay, we'll think of some more discerning one from another,
one thing from another, the truth from the week from
the chaff.
Speaker 3 (01:57:26):
That's I believe a song from Donald Summer back in
the early seventies.
Speaker 5 (01:57:28):
Oh really, yeah, discerning the week from the chaff.
Speaker 3 (01:57:32):
It was not one of our better hits. Okay, then
that reached the American top forty seven one three two
one two five seven. One of you Rocket fans that
have been dormant, out of touch, not available to us,
It's time to brag up about your basketball team. If
you want to get in on the Bregman sweepstakes or
the Texans offensive coordinator, would you Rod Johnson be satisfying
(01:57:55):
or is that just the next guy on the on
the list that would really the Texans go old school
or out of school to go get somebody that maybe
would not be within their organization. Seven one three two

Matt Thomas, Ross Virel. It's a Matt Thomas Show with
Ross on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (01:59:21):
Twelve fifty two on The Matt Thomas Show with Ross. Oh,
don't you ever hate it when you spilled grape jelly
on your bed?
Speaker 5 (01:59:29):
I don't believe once in my entire life have I
ever spilled grape jelly on my bed.
Speaker 3 (01:59:33):
Nor has it happened to me until about two minutes ago.
Speaker 5 (01:59:36):
You doing all right?
Speaker 3 (01:59:37):
Oh, it's fine, It's got to stain on it, but
that's fine.
Speaker 5 (01:59:42):
Yeah, Are you gonna tip your your chambermade extra?
Speaker 3 (01:59:46):
Now? Why she's gonna pull the sheets in it? Way
for everyone was that it's probably extra work, not really
put your nasty jelly stains out of the out of
the sheets which she strips the bed. When I leave
the hotel, it doesn't matter if there was a stain
on it or not. I mean there's been staying there.
Speaker 5 (02:00:04):
Okay, why don't you throw up on it and then
throw a bunch of feces and stuff on there and
it'll be the same thing. Right, she's gonna strip it anyways.
Speaker 3 (02:00:10):
Then I'll tipp her. But I think jelly's not that
big of a deal.
Speaker 5 (02:00:13):
No, you made a big jelly mess. Give her an
extra Uh do you even tip the chambermaids?
Speaker 3 (02:00:17):
Oh? Who calls him chambermaids?
Speaker 5 (02:00:20):
What do you call them?
Speaker 3 (02:00:21):
I don't know. Housekeeping change, Yes, I do every single
time they call me mister generous.
Speaker 5 (02:00:28):
On the road, I thought they called you titans screws.
Speaker 3 (02:00:36):
Not at all. All right, let's go to the phones.
We have some great clothes.
Speaker 5 (02:00:39):
I heard Ackerman said they call you alligator arms.
Speaker 3 (02:00:42):
No, there's somebody on our trip that's alligator. I'm not
telling you who it is either. No, I will tell
you all fair form. Definitely not on air. I mean
they getting back to that person. Uh, it's not Craig
by the way. Uh, let's talk to Michael on seven
out of your twelve fifty four. Michael, good afternoon, Thanks
for holding.
Speaker 22 (02:01:02):
Hey, what's up guys?
Speaker 5 (02:01:03):
A big fan of the show.
Speaker 22 (02:01:05):
I really liked that call last night on the game.
Speaker 24 (02:01:08):
I was leaving work and.
Speaker 22 (02:01:09):
Uh, I was about to walk in the gym and
you were.
Speaker 24 (02:01:12):
You're electrifying, man.
Speaker 13 (02:01:13):
I wanted to hear you, hear your call. That is good.
Speaker 3 (02:01:16):
Bless you, thank you. It's nice you to say that.
Thank you very much. I really, I have a great life.
I get to talk to you guys every day, I
get to buss you know what with Ross, and I
get through the rockets at night. So it's it's a
pretty good line. Oh that is that is a cool job.
Speaker 11 (02:01:28):
Man.
Speaker 24 (02:01:28):
I work in the day and the night, so I
hear you guys in the day and then here you
at night when I'm coming home. So I'm like, man,
these guys are they got it going on?
Speaker 5 (02:01:35):
Man, it's a cool gig.
Speaker 3 (02:01:36):
Thank you. What's on your mind?
Speaker 6 (02:01:38):
Oh?
Speaker 24 (02:01:38):
But yeah, So I originally had a good feeling about
Bregman coming back, but you know, after all, you know,
hearing Dana talk and just you know, everything going on,
I don't think he's coming back.
Speaker 13 (02:01:48):
Man, I don't think.
Speaker 24 (02:01:49):
I don't think he's worth the money that you know,
we originally offered. And I think maybe Dana's kind of
you know, inching it back and maybe he's saying that's
that's not the big deal anymore. So I don't think
he's coming back, man. I think that's that's my original
got feeling. But I also think everyone's talking about if
he did come back, a'll tuve go into left field.
(02:02:11):
But I say, why not Pinya. I mean, the guy
can run like a gazelle. He's got a decent arm.
I mean, I think he would be a better left
fielder than Altuve if that were the situation.
Speaker 3 (02:02:22):
The reason why I don't think you do that, Michael,
is because then you would be deficient at two different
spots in your defense. Because Altuve is no longer considered
an elite second baseman. So if you're moving from one
subpar spot to another, that's just a lateral move. If
you were to take him, if you were to take
Penya out of his shortstop spot, move to the left fieldhre.
He's not acclimated to it, and he was built to
(02:02:43):
be a short stop. That's what he's been doing all
his life. Why would you hurt himself at two spots
as compared to just one.
Speaker 24 (02:02:49):
Yeah, I was just thinking maybe they would put Bregman
at short and maybe that could be an option if
he came back.
Speaker 3 (02:02:54):
You know, that's a whole hypothetical.
Speaker 24 (02:02:57):
But other thing I wanted to chime in on that
play by aiming last night, like just breaking down that
final shot. You know, the athleticism to you know, come
off of one leg, you know, lunge back and jump
vertically to make that shot. You know, from a trainer's perspective,
a trained athletes, I'm like, wow, Like this dude is gifted.
And the fact that he's only what twenty one or whatever,
(02:03:20):
I mean, he's gonna grow, Like that guy is gonna blossom.
And I think easily. I love Jalen, I love Altfa,
those are my guys. But I think this guy could
be the best player on the team right now, just
the way he's taken over win given the opportunity, And
I think Ume is giving him that opportunity with you know,
giving him the last shot last night because he was
on you know, I like where our team's going.
Speaker 3 (02:03:41):
Yeah, that's a good point. Thank you Michael for listening
to show. We appreciate you dowloting and getting in on that. Yeah,
let me ask you this Rosson. I mean, I'm asking
this in all seriousness. You know, I'm watching more eurostep
and the winning shot was for a min in a
euro Did we did the NBA even have euro steps
twenty years ago? What what did guys do in nineteen
ninety nine?
Speaker 5 (02:04:01):
Hmmm?
Speaker 3 (02:04:02):
Did they just go right down the heart of the line,
Like I just want to strange in.
Speaker 5 (02:04:05):
The basket, like like, gentlemen, none of this witchery, these
euro steps.
Speaker 3 (02:04:12):
But a man does it beautifully. It's side to side,
it doesn't cause a travel. It's like he I mean,
you know clearly he works on it.
Speaker 5 (02:04:20):
I remember, I mean Man of Genobili was big on
the euro step. That was the first guy that I
really remember. James Harden was after King of it. Yeah,
after Man of genobil Yes.
Speaker 3 (02:04:32):
But did Michael Jordan never a euro stepped?
Speaker 6 (02:04:36):
No?
Speaker 3 (02:04:38):
Who else? Dominique Wilkins are here in Atlanta, he never
euro stepped.
Speaker 5 (02:04:44):
Okay. Wikipedia says the term was coined in two thousand
and seven. First player to really do it was Sarunas Marcillonis,
Matt don't Marcia Leonis, Yes, yeah, Lithuanian. He was on
that Litho team with the that was really good back
in the day, the Yugoslavian game, the yugoslagat national team.
Speaker 3 (02:05:08):
Yeah, I think Ross. And if we sat down one
night and put NBA TV of a TV game on,
like you know those greatest game things, and put a
game on from nineteen ninety two, we'd be shell shocked
what we watched.
Speaker 5 (02:05:22):
Uh I watched hardwood. I watch a lot of hardwood classics.
Speaker 3 (02:05:25):
Do you just I shick? I looked. I looked at
one last year we were in the Rock somewhere and
I was like, why is he taking a top of
the key jumper that's only worth two? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (02:05:34):
Foot on the line. A lot of twenty foot jumpers. Yes, yeah,
he's a lot of everybody's like, man, the old days
they played the game the right way. If you go
and watched the terrible shots and didn't count as much.
This is slow and ugly, and we always remember things
better than they were.
Speaker 3 (02:05:52):
It's like a light download on line show on lines
from kicks it back out to Kenny Smith. Kenny Smith
for three. That's good. That's the ninth three point a
tenp of the game for the Rock. This is a team, yeah,
I mean the players are the Celtics shooting nine three
pointers in three minutes. Yeah, which is part of the
reason why people have criticized the the NBA in the
in the style of plays, and maybe there are there
(02:06:12):
is too much reliance on the three point shot.
Speaker 5 (02:06:14):
Yeah, you're sitting in your couch like, man, this game
is kind of ugly. But Hersey Hawkins can ball Mitch
Richmond d Yeah, mo cheeks, he's got moves.
Speaker 3 (02:06:26):
It's fine.
Speaker 5 (02:06:26):
Fun to me to watch those old Hardwoods classics.
Speaker 3 (02:06:28):
I wouldn't want to do it as a regular, but
to watch it once in a while to kind of
go look at the old school arenas and the uniforms
and some of the stars you grew up watching.
Speaker 5 (02:06:36):
Yeah, I was confused because way back in the day,
didn't you get you've got three free throws to make
two or.
Speaker 3 (02:06:41):
Something like that. That's before my time.
Speaker 5 (02:06:44):
I think I had to ask Charlie Polilo about it.
I was like, what the heck's going on here, Charlie, Wow,
you used to get three to make two. It was
a different time.
Speaker 3 (02:06:53):
Boy, I don't ever remember seeing that live.
Speaker 5 (02:06:58):
I think they changed like the eighties or something.
Speaker 3 (02:07:01):
The only thing I remember the massive let's see the
big time The big rules changed since I've been around.
Used to give you ten seconds across the line. They
only give you eight. Now the three point line has it.
It got moved around a little bit.
Speaker 5 (02:07:17):
It used to be none. Yeah, it got moved for
a year and all the percentages went up, and then
they moved it back.
Speaker 3 (02:07:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:07:25):
It's like, oh, this is a bad thing.
Speaker 3 (02:07:26):
I'm trying to think what else has been massively a
change since I've been watching basketball?
Speaker 5 (02:07:31):
Yeah, three to make two was done away with in
the eighty one to eighty two season.
Speaker 3 (02:07:37):
Wow. So okay, Wow, I can't believe it's been It
was that soon. I mean, I just remember that at all.
All right, let's get the final hour start of the
Matt Thomas Show with Ross, Alex and Steven will get
to you. We'll get to some more Dana Brown cuts,
and we will put to music the great plays of
last night's gave it to the Rockets and Celtics. Next
one o'clock on seven ninety lunchtimers.
Speaker 5 (02:07:59):
This is the Matt Thomas Show.
Speaker 3 (02:08:02):
Thompson for the baseline right vam leek to his left,
Dylan three pointer. He's trying to one man gang this
basketball game for the Rockets one oh one N two,
dealing with thirty three nine three pointers. Career high for
him in the NBA is thirty seven. He might have
to get that here. And if the Rockets are gonna
(02:08:23):
pull this game out, Pritchard out left side of three pointer,
flock playing man Thompson, and he saved it on the
sideline to Jalen Greed right side of the floor, waiting
for teammates. No, he may take it himself. Kicks it
out left side of Brooks straight away to a man.
A man slides it into shed. Goon lost the ball
to his legs, hands it back to a man for
(02:08:44):
a first layup. Oh my goodness, he left it over
the right shoulder and the Rockets have the lead. Thank you,
Ben Thompson. Thirteen straight for the Rockets. Mine goodness. Vambly
toll inbound the basketball. Eleven point seconds remaining. Family get to.
Speaker 4 (02:09:02):
The shat dune who tims it down. Won to pass
the middle of the lane.
Speaker 3 (02:09:06):
Cornett got behind him, help me with the right hand.
Thrown down and Houston takes the lead. Won twelve to one,
ten ten point three seconds left to go. Another about
for Manley to a man. Thompson Dabblane euro Steck for
the win.
Speaker 4 (02:09:23):
He got it with seven tenths of a second.
Speaker 3 (02:09:27):
He hit the five footer gathering preacher launches in the game.
Speaker 5 (02:09:32):
It's so good off.
Speaker 4 (02:09:34):
The top of the backboard and the Rockets win it
in Boston, right down the.
Speaker 3 (02:09:41):
Middle of the lane.
Speaker 4 (02:09:42):
It's a game winner for a man and another huge Road,
Rockets Win, Oh my goodness, sh.
Speaker 3 (02:10:02):
Forty Queen Rossie, rock and roll, one of the old timers,
a great good for you, good for me, good for.
Speaker 5 (02:10:12):
Them, good for them. Rdyker Mercury Top three front man
all time.
Speaker 3 (02:10:18):
Yeah, yeah, for sure. Songwriter, lyricists, entertainer. And the guy
that Adam Levine is that? Who is it who replaced him?
I guess so really good. I'm not a big fan
of league guys replacing guys like the guy from Journey sucks.
But Adam Levine crushed when Queen came to Houston a
(02:10:38):
couple of years back.
Speaker 5 (02:10:39):
Crushed Adam Adam Lambert, Oh, Adam Lambert whatever, Adam Levieen Lambert,
same thing. Robert Plant, Mick Jagger, Freddy Mercury Top three?
Speaker 3 (02:10:49):
What's up? Robert Plant? Huh makes the short list? Huh?
Speaker 5 (02:10:55):
You know I gotta throw led Zeppelin in there for you.
Speaker 3 (02:10:57):
You know I feel about that.
Speaker 5 (02:11:01):
Don't even say it.
Speaker 3 (02:11:02):
I won't. Man, I'm counting down the hours till Kendrick
Lamar entertains. I said halftime, baby, man, I cannot wait.
Speaker 5 (02:11:09):
I think he's still sixteen. Grammy's up on berry Man alone.
We'll see in another week, how many guy goes to.
Speaker 3 (02:11:14):
Well, we'll see. We'll see how America feels about him
in about eleven twelve days.
Speaker 5 (02:11:20):
Okay, it doesn't matter.
Speaker 3 (02:11:22):
It's all as long as you enjoy it ross. Yeah,
and while others hate it, you will.
Speaker 5 (02:11:28):
It might be a bad show. I don't know, we'll see.
Speaker 3 (02:11:29):
There's no chance you can't have a bad halftime show.
Speaker 5 (02:11:32):
What do you mean? Who was terrible? That's when they
went away from the old acts because they're all old.
Speaker 3 (02:11:38):
Yeah, America members is gonna hate it, love it.
Speaker 5 (02:11:42):
What was the most roundly beloved one ever? Probably Prince
was that twenty years ago at this point or not
years ago?
Speaker 3 (02:11:50):
Yeah, when he did the phallic thing on the screen.
Speaker 5 (02:11:53):
Oh that was two thousand and seven.
Speaker 3 (02:11:55):
That was eighteen years ago. God, I feel old now.
There's no way university love. I don't. I don't have
a great memory of halftime acts.
Speaker 5 (02:12:06):
Let's go through.
Speaker 3 (02:12:06):
I will say this Beyonce for me back in by
the time.
Speaker 5 (02:12:09):
We know you love that one.
Speaker 3 (02:12:10):
That was a good one, that was strong.
Speaker 5 (02:12:14):
Yeah, they went away from the younger acts because of
Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake showing nipple.
Speaker 3 (02:12:21):
Well, just Janet, I don't think Justin did.
Speaker 24 (02:12:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:12:24):
I think Beyonce the Bruno Marson was good. Coleplay was terrible.
Lady Gaga in Houston was decent. Don't remember she jumped
out of the stadium.
Speaker 3 (02:12:35):
Who was thirty years ago today?
Speaker 5 (02:12:38):
Thirty years ago? Ninety five? Hold on, let me pull
it up. Scrolling scrolling Joe, Indiana Jones in the Temple
of the Forbidden, Patti LaBelle and Indiana Jones and Mary
and Ravenwood.
Speaker 3 (02:12:52):
What that's a weird trip?
Speaker 5 (02:12:53):
Teddy Pendergrass, Tony Bennett, the Miami Sound Machine, Michael Jackson's
was ninety three or he just kind of like it's
like a twelve minute show, and he just stood there
for like three minutes.
Speaker 3 (02:13:07):
He mailed it in, didn't he No.
Speaker 5 (02:13:08):
I think it was kind of as the kids call it, aura.
He was just standing there still and then the crowd
was going nuts.
Speaker 3 (02:13:17):
That's all I had to do because he was that popular. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:13:19):
After that was Clint Black, Tanya Tucker, Travis Tritt in
the Juds, m oh is this her?
Speaker 3 (02:13:27):
Believe it or not?
Speaker 5 (02:13:28):
Diana ross In ninety six.
Speaker 3 (02:13:32):
Billy Joel Ever.
Speaker 5 (02:13:35):
Uh, Billy Joel Elton John Nope, No, Billy Joel. So
that's right, Kendrick Lamar's got that over Billy Joel.
Speaker 3 (02:13:45):
Okay, just saying, seriously, I want everyone for the Super
Bowl to get around their televisions and we can look,
we can do like a live What are they calling
on Twitter when you do a live spaces How great
it is? Oh?
Speaker 5 (02:14:02):
Some well like it?
Speaker 6 (02:14:03):
Some my not.
Speaker 5 (02:14:03):
Maroon five kind of sucked.
Speaker 3 (02:14:05):
They always suck.
Speaker 5 (02:14:06):
Oh, I'll tell you the one.
Speaker 3 (02:14:07):
That everybody loved Shakira and Jennifer Lopez in twenty twenty,
and that was spectacular. I can't even name one j
little so it doesn't really matter. It didn't matter.
Speaker 11 (02:14:14):
No.
Speaker 5 (02:14:15):
Oh, the weekend was decent after that.
Speaker 3 (02:14:17):
Okay, let's go to fleet phones. Alex leak City one
to twelve on The Matt Thomas Show with Ross Alex,
good afternoon, Thank you for holding Yeah, no.
Speaker 25 (02:14:25):
Problem, thanks for having me on. We'll also think I
need your help on this one. But Matt, didn't you
say that you'd pour clam chowder on your head if
the Rockets beat the Celtics.
Speaker 5 (02:14:37):
That's true, clam chowder. Let's go, let's get the video up.
Speaker 25 (02:14:42):
I know you've already left Boston, but Uh, where can
we witness this?
Speaker 5 (02:14:46):
Head to the grocery store? Matt, Come on, now, I
can't pour cream soup on my head. You said you
were gonna do it, so you're telling us the folks
you're a liar.
Speaker 3 (02:14:59):
They already knew that. Can I do like a chicken
broth instead?
Speaker 5 (02:15:05):
Why? What's the difference?
Speaker 3 (02:15:07):
Easier to clean?
Speaker 5 (02:15:11):
You don't seem to care what she has to clean?
Speaker 3 (02:15:13):
How about chili with beans? Can I do chili with
beans instead? God without beans? Like a real text?
Speaker 25 (02:15:18):
Yeah, it's gonna be without beans.
Speaker 11 (02:15:19):
Isn't that what we discovered?
Speaker 3 (02:15:21):
Well? I like it either way. I'm not. I'm not
a chili snob. I like it with beans.
Speaker 6 (02:15:27):
But I didn't grow up in Texas either.
Speaker 3 (02:15:29):
All Right, Alec, if you have outed me and I
for that, I thank you. I think that's great. I'd
forgotten about that. I did. I certainly forgot about it.
Thanks Alex for the phone call. Not putting clam chotter
on my body?
Speaker 5 (02:15:41):
Well, then why'd you lie to the people?
Speaker 3 (02:15:43):
How about this? I will if the Rockets win the
NBA Finals, I will pour a soup of your choice
on my head. Okay, I swear to I swear to God,
I'll do it.
Speaker 5 (02:15:52):
I'm gonna go scolding hot mats a ball soup.
Speaker 3 (02:15:55):
No, it has to be room temperature.
Speaker 5 (02:15:56):
Why not scolding hot?
Speaker 3 (02:15:57):
Because I don't want third degree burns.
Speaker 5 (02:15:59):
Ross, Fine, we won't burn you.
Speaker 3 (02:16:01):
I mean, do you really want me to be going
to like an er right after I put the soup
on my head?
Speaker 5 (02:16:06):
No? I don't.
Speaker 3 (02:16:08):
God, if you hear that, folks, I offer to put
soup down my body and he wants it scolding hot.
Speaker 5 (02:16:16):
Can you listen to yourself? What is happening?
Speaker 3 (02:16:18):
What is happening with you?
Speaker 5 (02:16:19):
You're talking about putting You're talking about putting soup all
over yourself? Yeah, what is this show?
Speaker 3 (02:16:25):
Like the least the least popular would be like a
split pea with bacon.
Speaker 5 (02:16:28):
Now we're going on a cream mushroom.
Speaker 3 (02:16:30):
Cream mushroom could be would be good. I actually enjoy
that you ever lived until you've had your body soaked
in cream mushroom soup. Actually it might be therapeutic. I'm moisturizing. Correct.
All right, we'll go back to the phones in a moment.
What's if you had a sup port on you? What
soup would you try? You don't think so seven one
(02:16:51):
three two one two five seven NATI seven one three
two one two five seven NINTI. If you want to
follow us on Twitter, you may do that as well.
It's at sports and at Sports RB. We have believe
it or not, coming up in about thirty five minutes
from now, we have more your phone calls to get to.
We're gonna hear from our friend Steven in the Los
Angeles about the Rockets game, and they do want to
(02:17:11):
play some more. That Dana Brown sound that came away
from today's media availability after the deal with the Cubs
and the Astros was finalized, said Ryan Presley to Chicago
one fourteen on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (02:17:26):
Matt Thomas, Ross Viril. It's a Matt Thomas show with
Ross on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (02:17:40):
Now, Felipe may have a better idea, Ross, maybe I'll
pour jelly all over myself, but nobody ever serves a
hot jelly.
Speaker 5 (02:17:46):
I got a crazy idea. God, don't put any food
on yourself, that's true.
Speaker 3 (02:17:54):
Yeah, how would we just celebrate a Western Conference championship
and potentially.
Speaker 5 (02:17:58):
That's not waste? You know, Matt, there's people's arvin all
over the world.
Speaker 3 (02:18:01):
Yeah, Yeah, just lather me up with like soap, but.
Speaker 5 (02:18:06):
We donate some Kansas soup to the food bank.
Speaker 3 (02:18:08):
I think it's a great idea. Favorite by the way, Uh,
the worst Fantasy five you say it was ever was favorite.
Speaker 5 (02:18:15):
Soups Soups was bad, horrible.
Speaker 3 (02:18:19):
By the way around.
Speaker 5 (02:18:21):
And I'm taking a bean and bacon, Like, what.
Speaker 3 (02:18:23):
Do you think we should do a redo of the
Fantasy Vive Best snl Actors slash Actresses.
Speaker 5 (02:18:29):
No, because I'm still pissed off that you won with
Keenan Thompson. I had, like Will Ferrell, I can't even remember.
I'm just gonna get it.
Speaker 3 (02:18:38):
J just on fifty years. I think Keenan's been on
at forty seven of them. Seriously, you know why, because
he can get a better career because he's not that good.
I disagree. I think he's enjoyed. I think he's just
such a veteran member.
Speaker 5 (02:18:52):
He's so mid oh stop. If he were that dynamic
of a personality, he would have got a big movie
deal somewhere.
Speaker 3 (02:18:58):
He does Steve Harvey, he does what up with that?
He does Celebrity Jeopardy or Black Jeopardy, which is hysterical.
Speaker 5 (02:19:05):
The show has been a disaster. Basically the entire time
he's been on.
Speaker 3 (02:19:08):
There's some funny things.
Speaker 5 (02:19:11):
I mean, good for him and carving out the career
that he did.
Speaker 3 (02:19:14):
But but when you think you're like, if you're him,
aren't you like the oldest kid in college.
Speaker 5 (02:19:21):
He's thirty six years old. It's for up and comes,
for up and coming actors.
Speaker 3 (02:19:25):
You have all these twenty six year old he's working
with him. He's like almost their size at the age
of their dad.
Speaker 5 (02:19:30):
Yeah he looks young though, Yeah he didn't look forty six.
Speaker 3 (02:19:34):
Some guy's a game.
Speaker 5 (02:19:37):
His a game is Mendoza level, one.
Speaker 3 (02:19:39):
Of the all time great, says the City.
Speaker 5 (02:19:44):
I'm still upset.
Speaker 3 (02:19:45):
I know you are. Steven at won twenty three on
Sports Talk seven and he Stephen, good afternoon, Hey guys
have to go on good what's going on?
Speaker 26 (02:19:58):
A couple of points and comments. Well, first of all,
a great call last night, Matt. I was, I mean
watching the broadcast, but one of the one of the
few good things about social media is that you can
find uh stuff like that once it happened, so I
was able to listen to it a few times and uh,
really good stuff. But uh, I just wanted to kind
(02:20:19):
of get.
Speaker 8 (02:20:20):
Your guys thoughts on.
Speaker 26 (02:20:21):
I mean, uh, even a dooka, it's got to be
on the short list for Coach of the Year, right.
I know, you know, obviously there's a couple of teams.
Speaker 8 (02:20:29):
That are are are ahead with better.
Speaker 26 (02:20:31):
Records, but you know, I mean those were those were
good teams last year and playoff teams. I don't think
anybody saw the jump that the Rockets would make. And
I know there's a lot of seasons still left, but uh,
to me, he it just has the strongest case for
a coach year because man, he just gots these guys ready.
(02:20:51):
I mean, they just still give up.
Speaker 10 (02:20:52):
You know.
Speaker 26 (02:20:54):
I think it was in the fourth quarter when Boston
made that too run, I was like, Okay, well.
Speaker 8 (02:20:58):
You know, they had a good fight.
Speaker 26 (02:20:59):
It's probably the game's over or close to getting over,
but they just fought. And that was just like a
that felt like a heavyweight fight last night where just
haymakers were being exchanged. And I think the best compliment
I saw somebody make about last that game last night
was that for a Monday night game in late January,
(02:21:20):
that game had no business being as good as it was.
But I just wanted to hear your thoughts and I'll
hang up and listen. So appreciate the time as always, guys.
Speaker 3 (02:21:28):
Thank you for the phone call. Appreciate Steven. Yeah, I mean,
will this spark. I know that the New York Times
in a story on alprin Chingoon. I know The Athletic
did a story about ALP. I think a men's about
to get down the cover of some magazines pretty quick here,
at least it be front cover of some stories on
(02:21:49):
online stuff. I think his startup was about to really
burst here in the next couple of months if the
progression continues.
Speaker 5 (02:21:56):
Yeah, we've been talking about the NBA needing to invest
in new cares, young stars. I mean, Thompson's here, let's go.
Speaker 3 (02:22:03):
Yeah, Yeah, he's here, and he's and he's very likable, yes,
not real comfortable on the micro doesn't have a lot
to say.
Speaker 5 (02:22:12):
Well, I think he's pretty naturally funny.
Speaker 3 (02:22:14):
I think he's okay. He doesn't speak in long spurts,
but when he says stuff, it's pretty good. Like how
about him for We're talking with Vanessa on TV last
night that when he thought about that game, when he
startedly thought he was Kobe. That that's something that Kobe
would have done.
Speaker 5 (02:22:27):
Yeah, he said he felt like Kobe.
Speaker 3 (02:22:32):
Is I think and I and we wouldn't necessarily have
to do a poll question with today's NBA players. But
if people, if today's the NBA players want to be somebody,
they don't want to be Lebron, they want to be Kobe.
And I think part of that is because obviously Kobe's
legacy is amazing. Also, these kids that are twenty one,
(02:22:54):
twenty two were enjoying Kobe when they went went still
playing when they were seven or eight years old. Yeah,
and you're you're still going against Lebron at age forty
where you didn't never you never had a chance to
go against a childhood hero.
Speaker 5 (02:23:08):
Well yeah, and Kobe died in a helicopter crash, and
we know that you kind of, I mean, let's be honest,
we lionize people who died prematurely.
Speaker 3 (02:23:17):
Yeah, that's fair.
Speaker 5 (02:23:20):
It adds kind of to the to the lore and
the aura of it and and the mystique.
Speaker 3 (02:23:24):
Yeah. But I but even if he had not passed,
I think there would have When we were when he
was alive and we were talking about Kobe was revers
we put him on the outside of the top ten,
just inside the top ten, right eight nine.
Speaker 5 (02:23:36):
I have him just outside still, Okay. I just think
if you a look at the efficiency.
Speaker 3 (02:23:41):
I mean, he.
Speaker 5 (02:23:44):
Don't want to speak ill of the.
Speaker 3 (02:23:45):
Dead, Matt, No, No, you're not. No, this is about
just pulling the basketball. Yeah, he's kind of a chucker.
Speaker 5 (02:23:50):
I mean, come on, he scored a lot of points,
but he got up a lot of shots.
Speaker 3 (02:23:56):
Yeah. Part of what I think makes a great basketball player,
a live or dead for that matter, and looking at
the history is how efficient they were. And that to
me is a lot because again, uh, I don't care
that you score twenty nine points a game if it
took you twenty six shots to get there. And that's
one of the things I think that Jalen's gonna need
(02:24:18):
to do if he wants to take his game to the
next levels. Be much more of an efficient shooter.
Speaker 5 (02:24:22):
Yeah, six Kobe and pulling it up average thirty five
points per game. He was on twenty seven shots per game.
Speaker 3 (02:24:28):
What was a shooting percentage forty five. It's pretty good.
Speaker 5 (02:24:32):
It's good, but it's not as good as Jordan's, is
not as good as Lebron's. His three career three point
shooter thirty two point nine percent.
Speaker 3 (02:24:42):
Just put things in perspective, Jalen is at forty three
percent from the floor, thirty six from three, which is
improving a men? Is it fifty six percent? He went
thirteen of nineteen last night against the Celtics. Go, that's
a fit. Now. That's also knowing where he's where he's
(02:25:02):
comfortable on the floor. And the only threes I ever
really see him taking nothing than everyone's. But usually to
me that the three that he does take when he
when he wants to take them are usually on the baselines.
He doesn't take the corner threes and doesn't take the
straight on threes very often. I shouldn't say never, but
I would think if you looked at a shot chart
of where a man's longer shots that are being made
(02:25:24):
from that distance are probably on the baseline.
Speaker 5 (02:25:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:25:27):
And I would also like to say I have Kobe
top fifteen ish all time. I don't know.
Speaker 5 (02:25:31):
I mean there's certainly top fifteen. I don't know where
some we're probably somewhere between ten and fifteen. Is one
of the all time were all time greats.
Speaker 3 (02:25:36):
Yeah, I could put in between eight and fourteen, eighteen
fifteen and be very comfortable with that, very very comfortable.
All right, one eight Sports Talk seven and eighty. This
is the Matt Thomas Show. Ross. We're gonna talk to Joe
about the Rockets, and we're going to get also some
of the Dana Brown cuts from earlier. Today, he met
with the media via conference call to discuss where the
(02:25:58):
team is in a variety of things. Well, here's from

not true. He just said the water's dirty and brown.
And it's not wrong.
Speaker 3 (02:28:42):

go you go another ten feet that I want you
to turn right again, and I want you to go
