Speaker 1 (00:02):
Lunchtimers.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
This is the Matt Thomas show. Man, I love those
City Connect uniforms. That the uniforms top shelf. They're growing
on me. Oh man, I am. It's funny. Last year,
I love the hat more than I love the top.
This year, I love the top more than I love
(00:25):
the hat. All Right, it doesn't matter what you put
Hunter Brown in that man is dal Should we do
a hunter coin coins?
Speaker 3 (00:33):
All good?
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Hunter Coin? Yeah, I mean it is. Coin is skyrocketing.
Good morning. Everybody's out pacing the now. If I had
a four to one K on Hunter I'd i'd be
I'd won't want to check it every day? Yeah, you'd
be doing it?
Speaker 1 (00:45):
Okay, every time I ain't, don't do it. Don't do it.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
You know what it is. It's I have problems with
checking things a lot. I checked, I check four one K,
and every time I go look at my four one k,
keep checking that. It's not gonna change. Man, I wish
I had a growth. It's been a long time, I
mean a while. All right, Good morning everyone, It is
about Tamas show and Ross. We're with you today until
(01:10):
two pm. HI gonna entertain you for the next four hours.
Jonathan's our producer. Yes, makes it a little cooler gang. Jonathan.
You don't even realize how cool Cool in the Gang
was back in the day.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
I mean, my god, you.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Gotta tell me. I'm looking at the picks right now.
They look smooth and not baby. You know, they're still well,
it's cool in some of the gang. They're still touring,
aren't they. Well it's a cool it's cool and a
really old gang. Yeah, cool and part of the gang
and some of the gang's grand children stuck in a
three sixty deal. They can't stop performing now. Yeah, no,
I mean, and I wouldn't do I would do the
same thing if I was them. I remember going to
see Cool in the Gang at the Arena Bowl, like
(01:42):
in two thousand and five in Denver, and I'm like,
they're still around. That was two thousand and five. Good
for them, man, I could you could get into it.
You can get to a Cool in the Gang rabbit
hole and just listen to Joanna. The gang has a
baby celebration jungle boogie.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
Oh they may celebration.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Oh snap, yeah, ladies' night it's here. It's your sign.
We should just start giving Jonathan assignments because you're how old,
Jonathan twenty two? What was it was your birth date? August?
Speaker 1 (02:10):
Go to your phone thousand and two.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
Man, go to your phone and just just hit the
Cool in the Gang and listen to five or six songs.
Not right now, you got a busy work on the show.
But after I got the way home from work today,
get in there and listen to it. And you mean, like,
good God, Cooling the Gang had some hits man, good times. Yeah,
he should know. Jungle Boogie, Ladies Night too hot, Joanna.
I mean, if you want to go with a croon victory,
(02:32):
we just played. It was all eighties. Great, it's more
late seventies or ladies, but yeah, you're in that race.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
Seventies, yeah, seventies and eighties two. But good, good time.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
You give me earth Wind and Fire and Cool the Gang,
and I'm pretty much set. Okay. We talked about this
at dinner last night, and not to say he's one
of these groups, but we were all sitting around going
if we had once we were left on a desert island, huh,
We'll hear one song, the song, one song, one song,
that's it. If you had to listen to one song
(03:03):
the rest of your life. My my daughter Carly thought
it was piano man. That was incorrect. Oh, oh for you,
For me, my wife Kim got it. Cary Niel Sadak
is walking in the rain. No, it would not. It
was laughter in the ring, not walking or whatever. You
can laugh and walk. Mine would be Hey Jude, I'd
listen to Hey Jude. Hey Jude is good. You'd have
(03:23):
to pick something that's really long. I would anyways, because
if you pick a three minute song and that bad
boy is playing twenty times an hour, you're gonna want
to rip your hair out. You don't have necessarily to
listen to it every single minute of the day. So
if you were stuck with one, there was gonna be
in a loop. So let me ask you, if you
were stuck with one song, I would go with Beethoven's
fifth Symphony.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
No.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
Seventh, I'll go with the seventh Symphony.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
You know, instrumental isn't a bad deal on that, But
I'm not a big enough fan of instrumental music to
give you just say, also, there's three movements, so does
that really count? It's like forty minutes. Oh yeah, I'll
give you to you. Okay, wonderful If it's if it's
one song. It's one song. That's the rule. It's one song.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
Hey, Jude's about six. I think you can ever take
a lot of it.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
Is no, no, no, no, no no. I mean I would
get a little bit older.
Speaker 4 (04:05):
No.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
If you're making me choose an actual pop song, oh man,
I don't even know. I'll let you think about it.
Like I said, I'll choose something ten minutes long. Stairways
have free Bird Stairwaid to Heaven American Pie. Hmmm, that's
a good one. That's a long range of emotions. Oh man,
got hot mess. Yeah, you'd also do what would be
(04:27):
kind of appropriate all by myself. You are a loan
by Island. Yeah, but then that would be depressed. You'd
be depriving your spirits up. I'll go with Lucile by
BB King. That's like ten minutes. It's a jam echoed
any James Brown song we had like Hell was a
good pick.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, all right?
Speaker 2 (04:43):
Hey uh hey Haunter Brown, My god, is he dealing.
He's a beast. I love that attitude he has. I
love that look in his eyes that he has when
he's he's strutting away from striking somebody out and he's like,
bleep you, why did you even get in the box,
Like what are you doing?
Speaker 1 (04:59):
Go home, get away.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
And then like even if he gives up a hit
or a walk or something like that, he's like, give
me the damn ball back. I'm about to get everyone out.
He I love it. He literally is mature in front
of our eyes. Yes, you know, it's also maturing out
in right field's camp Smith camp. Smith is making plays.
He's you know what he is, folks, He's just an athlete. Yes,
And that's what the astro said, is that, Yeah, we
(05:22):
don't think long term. You're a third basement for this team.
Nothing should obviously change bretis Obviously he's playing externarly well
at the position right now, both defending and also with
his offense. But we want to figure out the future
we need we need. You need a great athlete. Your
best athlete plays right field, and your centerfielder, well, centerfield
(05:42):
gets you your most territory.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
But I mean in terms of throwing.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
People out tough angles, I've always put I've always wanted
to put my best true outfielder in right field. Yeah,
athlete for is going to be shortstopper center usually right right, Yeah, yeah,
so he's just a player and I'm excited about his deballer. Yeah,
your friend Jake Myers continues just slap it around. Jose
Al two Bay continues to get hits and yet make
(06:07):
the dumbest running mistakes in Oh my god, wa bad
base running it by the way, over four with three strikeouts.
But we're looking big picture here. He went from three
h five to two eighty six and one night. That's
sample sized, and April can be pretty changeable pretty quick.
By the way, Jake Myers will be a guest of
the A team today at two fe you will, yes,
(06:28):
all right, are you gonna stick around and do the interview?
I mean you feel like you should be part of
the interview in like three or four times. Yeah, but
do you think god him and A Yeah, Okay, we're
gonna we're gonna replay it on Astros on deck tonight,
so I better be going.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
I bet you would all whatever. We that's easy.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
You play great interviews because we repackaged exactly. I don't
grudge that two different audiences, Matt, exactly. I'm not going
to crush one for doing so. Thank you very much
pull others mailing it in, and then when they do it,
it's not mailing it in. But that's okay. Who who
would have called mailing any hypocrites around here? Oh my god,
that's I don't know. Anyway, we don't work with any
of them. Jake Myers two thirty. We got Joe Spotty
(07:09):
coming up at twelve thirty. And by the way, was
I right about And I didn't necessarily forecast Zach Decenzo
doing his thing? But my to Tell the Truth yesterday?
Was that a terrible take? Now when you think about it,
it wasn't. Well, we'll see about the You also said,
no NBA series is going seven games? Square it up? Yeah,
it squared up yesterday. So I was like, what that
(07:31):
is fair? Hey see, I told you got to get
in the mind of a madman.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
Jonathan. Jonathan, doing to tell the Truth is tough. It is.
It is, I will give you that.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
It is when you go when you're out on A
two or Monday. I don't know if we're gonna do
this all right on the show today, we've got a
lot of Hunter Brown conversation, the Astros offense putting up,
and I want you to let's give the mind of
George Springer. Obviously not the body right financially well beyond
his drug he's to a great But do you think
is there a part of him as going, I'm up
(08:04):
here in Toronto, I'm never gonna I got the Red Sox,
I've got the Yankees to compete with every year, I've
got Baltimore. Am. I just was my twenty seventeen my
crescendo of my winning career. Oh no, I won a
World Series. But I mean when you want when you win,
when you win one, you want to win multiple. You
want to an to make a concentative. But he was
(08:27):
so better towards the Astros, like I ain't taken any offer.
I don't care what you throw throw at. We will
discuss and I think we should also discuss who is
bat number two in the lineup yesterday. I think it's
a great Calle decision. Also on the radio show today,
Shaq did something last night on television that I applaud
him for. We'll discuss that as well. Gut Feelings at
(08:49):
eleven thirty Joe a spot and normally at twelve thirty,
but he's got a meeting today, so we will move
him to one thirty this afternoon, giving us a chance
at twelve thirty to get to Ross's NFL rewide one three, two,
one two five seven out. If you want to brag
about the local nines, big victory, and it was big
seven nothing. I mean, very few of those. Oh my gosh,
it's breezy. I was like, oh, that's their best win
(09:10):
in the season ten nineteen. It is the Matt Thomas
Show with Ross. We we we take you till two
o'clock this afternoon. Seven one, three, two, one two five
seven ninety Astros back at five hundred one of three
or four knocking off Toronto last night seventh and nothing.
You know what was so nice too, is that you
got a crook an inning in. I mean it feels
(09:31):
like there haven't been a whole lot of those so
far this year, but last night was one of them.
The Astro is doing a lot of damage in the
fifth inning. Uh, some hard hit balls. The Senzo get
the double, oh two, they had a double. Uh Eastoch
Peretties with an RBI single. Yeah it. They went up
against a good pitcher and they hit them normally they
(09:54):
get you know, the guy throws seven innings of one
run ball and they're like, yeah, we went up against
some good pitching and we couldn't do anything. Hey, you
can hit good pitching. It is possible. Yeah, and it
happened yesterday. It is interesting. So some of the more
impressive wins this year for the local line have come
against some of the better teams in baseball. Yep, the
match two out of three, I mean, granted was the
(10:15):
first weekend series of the year, but it was still
the Mats and they're very much a championship one series
against the Padres. Now the Blue Jays coming to town,
you get a victory. So the demise of the local
lineup maybe you have been greatly exaggerated by those Yeah,
we had AO last night on the a positive AO.
(10:35):
I suppose what did you say on the tenth inning
last night? No, it was a caller and uh is
Zach Dezenzo going to be taking over first base?
Speaker 4 (10:45):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (10:46):
I don't think so. I think Christian Walker got a
what was it called a breather, Yes, a breather was
the word you. It was the term used by Joe Aspata.
But he also did say post game that Zach Dezenza
will be in the lineup. Where we'll find out later on.
That's why I brought up and I kind of flippingly
did the Chas McCormick stuff. I think the Astros is
(11:08):
an organization like the future of Desenzo. I mean, let's
face it, I mean, Chaz is who Chas is. He
just turned thirty. He was given an opportunity to make
this roster coming out of spring training and play a
little bit and play right field that obviously he didn't
even do enough in spring training to gather the confidence
of the organization. The Camp Smith guy had never played
(11:28):
right field before in his entire life, was given the
opportunity to be the opening day right fielder. Yeah. So,
I mean, Chaz just had his thirtieth birthday, So it's
not like he's just some young up and comer who
needs a little bit more time and abs and all
that type of stuff. He kind of is where he
is right now. And Zach Desenzo some very hard hit
contact yesterday earning some playing time. I mean, and again,
(11:51):
I think this is very much true for any Major
League baseball team at over one hundred and sixty two games,
especially with some guys that aren't tearing the cover off
the ball there, Joe should be rotating some people around
trying to find a hot hand, because that's what that
means when you are stuck in mediocre, which is at
eleven and eleven, is there is really nobody with the
exception and probably, I mean you can probably in your
(12:12):
starting nine, you've got three or four guys that absolutely
should be a lineup every day or at least six
days a week. The rest of the guys should be
fighting for black time right now. Nobody's crushing it from
an offensive perspective. And I say the same thing about
uh jan Air Diaz. I mean, maybe more Victor Caratini
down the road. Who's to say, Yeah, we'll see with that,
that'll be interesting. Backup catchers, though, you have to be
very careful about that because again, backup catchers are backup
(12:34):
catchers for a reason. This is the thing too, is
whenever Kartini is in there as a backup catcher, that
means he is in probably whatever best matchup gives him
the chance to succeed. So if you see a guy
for a small sample size and you're like, oh my god,
the guy's hitting three hundred, well he's also getting a
favorable matchup every time he goes out. So you play
every somebody every day against lefties, righties, whatever repertoires, then
(12:55):
the numbers go down eventually, when you can also say
the thing about Mauricio Dubon too exactly put him in
a particular matchup because he's had some success or he
hits a certain player a certain way or certain pitches.
You put him in there six days a week, and
he regresses back to what exactly, And that's why the
constant arguing what was it not you was it last
year or the year before of he's got to play more,
(13:17):
was just like you know, a little bit last year. Yeah,
also two years ago with Chas McCormick. Well you're on
our ideas. I didn't get a hit yesterday. But still
that ops is at four to ten, gosh almighty, struggling
out of the get go. Yeah, well you know he
he wan the tutelage of Martin Maldonado for those years.
(13:38):
I mean this line, I'm still generally speaking, is largely underperforming.
Jordan's ops is six fifty six al two baits to
regress a little bit as of late. I mean, you're
still looking at you pain. His ops is six ninety one.
You're supposed to be about seven fifty to be considered
an average player. Eight hundred put you in the really
good club. Nine hundred put you in the elite. Jake
(13:59):
Myers eighty two. So he gets on base, but he
just doesn't have any much sock to it. Brendan Rodgers
has been nice. But the ops six forty five yesterday,
let's go.
Speaker 3 (14:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
But I mean, let's just face it, if the Astros
are going to win this division or and or make
the playoffs, they're probably don't have to do it with
the guys that are on the on the rubber every
every day. Yes, and so far, the bullpen, I would
say it's been b plus, it's been great. Rotation has
been an even mentioned Forrest Whitley. Six outs yesterday, really
seven if you count the strikeout that they got the first, Yeah,
(14:32):
drop the third strike. He looked good. Fortitly look good.
So and again this is where predicting baseball issues are
always a very funny test, because you and I we
had some good natured fun of the month of March
about whether or not with the Achilles Hill of this team.
With me and you were like, when he's starting pitching,
and he's starting pitching. Really, we're about starting pitching. And look,
(14:55):
everybody needs depth though, so to say that nobody needs
death is ridiculous. But I am large I'm very rarely
ever embarrassed about a starting pitcher playing for the local nine.
Right now, the bullpen's been better, The bullpens will have
been on the best in bass. You think Renel Blanco
is going to go back to what Renel Blanco was
prior to last season. No, he's not gonna go down
(15:16):
to that, but I think he's gonna be better than
he has been. And then you've got hopefully Lance mccullor's
coming back, which is going to add another interesting decision.
It's it's kind of coming together. And honestly, in this
division where you are in fourth place, but you are
only two back of the Rangers in first, you're a
(15:39):
lot a little bit of wiggle room, and the Astros
have been able to survive the wiggle room that has
been largely an underperforming bottom five offense in Major League Baseball. Yeah,
it's going to be the offense. The starters have been
middle of the pack. They're three to ninety one EIRA,
which is fifteenth and then if you go to relievers,
they've been one of the best in baseball.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
That's fourth at two to eighty, best in the American League.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
Yeah, honestly to me, and again we're only talking about
a small samples hous of twenty three game, yes, twenty
two games. To me, it's the offense has got to
wake up, absolutely, and it's it's not going to win
the division if it continues to struggle for the most part. Now,
yesterday was a nice sign, especially, you know, Toronto's got
some decent pitching they're going to see in this series,
(16:24):
and the Astros got to them yesterday. I mean Kevin Gosman,
I mean, even with getting racked yesterday hard yesterday is
the ra's barely about three. So he's having a really
good season. Now he's also looking for some offensive support.
He's two and two the earning of three point one six,
which means which means he's staying in games long enough
to get decisions, but he's also not getting much run support. Yeah,
(16:47):
he's been great. He's been great for Toronto when they
sign him to that big deal. Yeah, seven one, three,
two five seven ninety Now, Jersey said Jerry Springer. George
Bringer's having a very good season. Joe Springily his best
start as a blue Jay since he's been up there.
I would say, okay, yeah, I mean the ops even
after going when he went one for two years OPS
(17:09):
ninety one. So he's obviously falling. He's socking the ball.
But if you're if you're him, do you just go?
You know what, I got my championship, I got my check.
I'm moving on because when I look at Toronto, I
think to myself, a lot of hitting, not a front
end pitching, not a lot of back end pitching, and
certainly not a great bullpen. I'm sure he hoped it
(17:31):
would have gone better. I mean, I don't think he's
signed this long deal that he did thinking that he
wasn't gonna win anything here. Yeah, it's also really hard
to win a World Series championship. He's got people around him,
I mean Shadd and Guerrero and Santandero. Recently saw a
Santander who the Astros were trying to kick the tires
on a little bit. It's not been good for them, yeah, yeah,
(17:52):
like you said, Guerrero, Yeah, they just haven't been good enough.
And they're in a tough division as well. I don't
think he's having any regrets, but I'm sure if you've
asked him, hey, did this go the way you want it,
He's like, no, I probably would have liked it one more. Yeah,
that's right, all right. Ten twenty eight It is about
Thomas Show with Ross. If you'd like to be a
part of our radio program, we'd love to have you
at seven one three two one two five seven ninety two.
(18:15):
All right, listen to me very carefully. We just got
a pair of tickets for the playoff game tomorrow night
inside Toda Center.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
Excuse me, you heard me. I didn't swear or center.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
The Houston Rockets versus the Golden State Warriors at Toyotas
and playoffs. Yes, that's a serious prize, Matthew, and we're
gonna get them away in the one o'clock hour when
we're not going to tell you. But you just can't
listen to one o'clock hour for us to tell you
when to call. You have to know the winning phrase,
(18:51):
the phrase that pays Oh we're not paying you, we're
giving you it pays you Rockets ticket. That's true, that's true.
The phrase the winning phrase is something I say hopefully
at least once per Rocket broadcast. Well, not a whole
lot in the last one. This is true. The phrase
you must recite to Jonathan in the one o'clock hour
(19:14):
when we call for it is what I say, nothing
but nylon. Okay, So in the one pm hour, when
somebody says or you say nothing but nylon. M hmm,
call in. That's your cue.
Speaker 5 (19:27):
That's Q.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
The seventh person, seventh, the seventh person that hears that
in the one o'clock hour that calls in is going
to win the tickets to see the Rockets and the
Warriors tomorrow night. Okay, love it now.
Speaker 1 (19:43):
When I was saying the phrase again, we'll say the
phrase again in an hour.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
Yes, don't call again when we say it, and now
it will be at the one o'clock o'clock hour to
win the seventh caller when I and I'll just organically
throw it in the conversation and when I love it,
that's when you'll give a chance to win those tickets.
So you ten thirty, you've been given a little bit
of advanced notice. What to clock out. You're welcome Rockets Warriors.
(20:06):
Last night we did see a pair of series go
even in a game apiece. The road teams did win
Detroit one at New New York. I believe that is
a either fifteen or sixteen game postseason.
Speaker 1 (20:17):
Losing streak that came to an end for the Detroit Pistons.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
Oh good for them, they earned it. Yeah, So Detroit
won last night. The Los Angeles Clippers even the series
with the Denver Nuggets at a game apiece in Los Angeles.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
And I thought, I ain't give any credit to these things,
but I have to.
Speaker 2 (20:38):
You talked about on your Twitter account about how we
describe Kawhi Leonard. Yes, because let me give you the
ultimate positive, unguardable. Yes, can beat you anywhere on the floor,
mid range layups, three point shot. They're just in a
(20:59):
spot on the floor that he is not incredibly fluid.
Problem is this, he just can't stay healthy. And in
the world in which we live in where attendants is
part of the grade, I mean, you could be a
great student, but if you don't go to class, they're
going to they're going to fail you out of the class.
(21:19):
And I think that, to me is a large reason
why you don't think of Kawhi Leonard as one of
the greats of the greats, because if you were to
describe Kawhi Leonard and you started putting a list together
of the great things are any description of who he is,
you could clearly say he is a two time world champion.
You can say he is one of the most highly
compensated NBA players. He is one of the most interesting
(21:45):
multiple point guard, small forward, big guard, multiple position type player.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
But man, the first thing you think of is what's
what is he in pain for?
Speaker 2 (21:57):
Now? Is he going to play again? Yeah? To me,
one of the handful of greatest perimeter defenders I've ever seen.
I mean I forgot about that. Yeah, six foot seven,
seven foot three wingspan, giant hands, smart, strong, I mean
the reason that the Spurs won that championship in twenty
(22:20):
fourteen is because he was locking up prime Lebron James. Yeah,
I mean he's he. Ultimately, people always trying to figure
out what a Men Thompson wants to be. If a
Men Thompson could be Kwi Leonard, you'd take him at
a heartbeat minus Andrews. But the problem is, Kawi is
a much better shooter. Kui is a much better shooter.
He has multiple seasons of twenty five plus points per game.
But never a scoring champion, never an MVP, but two
(22:41):
time Defensive Player of the Year, two time world champion,
went to Toronto and helped them finals MVP on two
different teams, which I think has only been done by
Lebron and maybe Kareem. It's an interesting resume to place him.
Like if you say, if I say greater all time
Kevin Durant or Kawhi Leonard, it seins Durant. For me,
(23:05):
it's Durant. But man if Kawhi had played a little
bit more, he's there. Well, let's add fifty more games
to Kawhi Leonards' resume, and I would say it'd be
very very close, if not even a small midge advantage
to Kuhi. But you can't do that because he's missed
so much time. No athletes that way, I mean, we
(23:27):
we we we run into a lot of amazing folks.
I mean, for instance, and I get teased about this
because I was very concerned about Yao Ming in his
feet when he was first with the rockets back in
the day. When Yao Ming played, he was unguardable. He
just was he just did he just didn't play. I mean,
you just had about a lot of big men. But
(23:48):
I mean that that happens in sports all the time.
You know, there are lots of great I mean, for instance,
Max Schurzer, one of the best pictures in the last
twenty five years, but unfortunate the last five years of
his major league career, we've talked more about him being
injured than he's been about actually pitching. Mm hmm. It
just goes with the territory the body does. The body
doesn't cooperate sometimes with the natural ability. I'm gonna throw
(24:11):
some more at you. Yeah, Kawhi Leonard, Greater cell Time
or dark Davitski. See, I'm I'm hurt. The attendance is
hurting me every single time. So if you want to
say equal games, uh huh, Kawhi man okay Jan, I
think to Kompo or Kawhi m hm Kawhi hmmm, based
(24:40):
off of equal playing time. Because here's the thing about
Giannis is downhill as unbreakable as I've seen, but he
is a disaster from three point range, and he hurts
you at the free throw line. Why doesn't do either
one of those two things, Kawhi Leonard or Kevin Garnett. Garnet,
(25:02):
I go Kawhi, but it's close. It's just interesting. Yeah,
you can do this a lot of times because he
is so Kwi is so talented, So, like you said, unstoppable, unguardable,
all those things. Multiple positions, multiple defensive positions, two time
Defensive Player of the Year. I mean, if you want
to like there, we always people always say, well, who's
a man Thompson And I said, well, you know he's on.
If he's Andre Godall, he's gonna have an amazing NBA career.
(25:25):
But I think he can be better than Andre Goodell.
I think I think the next level about being a
five by five player is from Andre Goodallo to Kawhi Leonard.
But again, Kwi just misses so much time that you know,
he he invented rest. You know what's not you're talking
about five by five players. I know this name is
radioactive in Houston, but Draymond Green, No, Draymond.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
Green created five by five. Yeah, I mean I'm okay
with that.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
Mm hmm.
Speaker 1 (25:51):
It's at six layer that just pisses me off.
Speaker 2 (25:54):
The kicking and the people in the nuts layer. Was
there an issue in game one? Thankfully?
Speaker 4 (25:57):
No?
Speaker 2 (25:58):
No, But he was bitching the time. Yeah, he was Yeah,
he was ten forty on Sports Talk seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven nine. We've got
gut feelings coming up at eleven thirty. NFL re wanted
twelve thirty and Joe A. Spottaby with us at till
one thirty this afternoon game two of the series between
the Astros and the Blue Jays, and I'll have the
on deck show for you beginning tonight at six o'clock
(26:19):
with a seven to ten first pitch inside dyke In Park.
I feel like if we did a tip jar this year,
that our tip jar would be rather low on the
name of the ballpark. I thankful I have started. What
if you do half the word I've done or me,
but I haven't. Only I've said I think I've said
that the stadium forminal known has minute mate, Okay, that works,
(26:39):
that's true. Also formerly known as Astros Field.
Speaker 1 (26:42):
Yeah, it's been. It's been a few things. Back in
the day.
Speaker 2 (26:45):
I remember when Enron went down, They're like, hey, the
Astros called us, said hey, we just want to let
you know we're change the name of stadium link to
what astros Field. Okay, you know what there there, it's
it's happening a lot in sports marketing. I mean the
arena in Phoenis Phoenix pH AA PHX Arena. Miami's arena
has been named five different things. Uh huh. It was
the Oakland Coliseum in in Oakland for a while, right yeah,
(27:08):
and then it went to o Duck the outdoor because
the indoor arena used to be called the Oakland Coliseum Arena.
Speaker 1 (27:15):
Okay, now it's his oracle. Now it's just a.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
Dump, and now it's it's abandoned, right, No, it's it
was used. It was used during All Star weekend for
who they did the celebrity Oh they stepped n Kevin
Hart and his friends in there and Beebes or whoever
Kevin Hart, I don't know who, anybody what loved him
and they Tom Brady roast, but it was I wasn't
going to watch him. Okay, pound for pound, maybe the
(27:39):
most overrated comic out there right now. His stand up
is actually not bad. It's just that he does a
billion movies with With the Rock and plays the same
character in all of them. But he makes a ton
of money, so good for him. How about this one?
I got one for Jack Black. He is now back
on the scene where is he He's like, I've been
gone for twenty years, like the minecraft, Yeah why why?
Speaker 1 (27:58):
Why was he gone for twenty years? I don't ever
liked him to begin with.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
Yeah, most prolific one note actors who do play the
same character and everything. Basically Hollywood said go away for
a while and come back AND's try this again. But
he was on SNL a couple weeks back. Yeah, he
was in the Mario movie. He was king Koopa. Yeah,
shall Howe wasn't terrible, I'll be honest with you. Yeallo
how it was like twenty years ago. Yeah, not sure.
(28:23):
Leebray was a little rated for me, Oh not sure.
Libra was okay. Yeah, it's funnier the second time. It's
one of those movies that the first time you watch
it year he's like, this is the weirdest, stupidest thing
I ever saw. And it's funny because the same director
of Napoleon Dynamite. That's how I felt about Napoleon Dynamite.
The first time I watched it, I was like, this
is the dumbest movie I've ever seen. Yeah, and then
I watched it again and I was like I can't
stop laughing. Yeah, you know I felt about that was
(28:46):
the Mike Lovan movie. Uh oh, super Bad. It was great.
Super Bad as a classic from that, I enjoyed it
the first time. I better laughed the second. We used
to pregame with the super Bad drinking game in college.
Anytime they mentioned drinking or alcohol, you have to drink.
Anytime I think they mentioned sex or something like that.
So we're getting hammered.
Speaker 1 (29:03):
Yeah, and it didn't take you long. I don't think,
not at all.
Speaker 2 (29:07):
Ten forty three Sports Talk seven ninety seven one three
two one two five seven ninety all.
Speaker 1 (29:13):
Right, I put a pull question up. It's got a
day to let you vote.
Speaker 2 (29:17):
The question is uh interest level in Round one of
the NFL Draft. It's twenty four hour pull And then
again it's just based off of people that follow me
on Twitter, and you would sec to uh get your
vote in. You may do so at sports mt as
a Twitter account. Four options, huge chure, I'll check it out, minimal,
(29:40):
no interest. I like that, uh sixty four percent. Chrey'll
check it out, which feels like that's that's me. Chery'll
check it out. I mean Thursday, well we got there.
We got nothing going on Thursday because the Rockets are off,
and I believe what are the Astros doing on Thursday?
They playing a game on Thursday. Let's see here they
are off as well. So yeah, Thursday night's a good
night just to sit back and just kind of see
(30:01):
what other things are going on. UM, watch some playoff
basketball and the draft. Yeah, sixty four percent sure, I'll
check it out. Twenty seven percent huge, nine percent minimal,
and zero percent with zero interest. So and you can
welcome Nuggets and Clippers to NBA TV. Is that where
(30:22):
it's on? And on Thursday the two NBA TV series
Heat Calves and Nuggets Clippers. Poor guys, Ross, we just can't.
We were just not an NBA I mean, we're not
a great sports show. We're not gonna talk about it. Yah. Yeah,
I mean we You and I would love to be
watching maybe on our own podcast. You want to do
NBA Playoff podcast, play Playoff Push, Slinko's Power Bombs and
(30:45):
the Playoff Push. In the Playoff Push. We're on New York.
We're on the air enough as it is. I have
to sit out when you talk about wrestling. Yeah. By
the way, uh, thoughts and prayers of Pat McAfee, who
got choked out last night during uh he did during
a raw. Hopefully he's going to be able to do
a show today. I thought I heard you jumping up
in a plotting McAfee for me is really intriguing on
(31:10):
game day. Everything else is horrifically bad. Bro Stick Stick Yeah,
apparently he's high as a kite when he when he works.
He's wrestling events. By the way, said that Sena and
Paul Hayman of both referenced the amount of weed that
he smokes, which I'm thinking of. You know, he's got
a lot of football injuries, but he was a punter,
(31:31):
so I don't know. I don't know. Another thing too,
is you know Joe Tessitur is the host of SmackDown.
He is, Yeah, and he is a fantastic college football
announcer and a very good boxing I love it on
Blow by Blow, but it's an acting role. He knows
what's coming up, but he has to he treats it
(31:53):
with all the sincerity. If he's calling a game between
Auburn and Georgia, do they tell the announcers what's happening,
what's gonna happen? They're gonna they have to at some
point I mean no, because you have to know where
the angles are. You gonna know what the next segment
is coming up. You gotta know when to talk with
not you by me, not know every single thing, but
my guess is you gotta have a pretty good feel
of what's going on. Yeah, I would think probably if
(32:17):
you were if if there was a ten page script,
they probably have nine of it. Okay, it'd be hard
for me to to to pretend to legitimately talk about
a sporting event or or sports a entertainment event already
knowing the result. Well, you call Steph Curry threes, you
already know they're going in. Oh damn ross that that
(32:42):
hit the that hit the mid section. It's true too.
I know, I don't want it to be true. He
had two the other night that was oh my god,
the fall away on the right side and then like
the pull a pull up thirty five footers, so the
old in rhythm thirty five footer, which you say to
no one else in the world. Steph Curry, he's the
one that can say it. And like I said, the
word it just splashes in. There's no rattling, it just
(33:03):
splashes in. It's crazy. How good he is still at
thirty seven. Yeah, defensively still a hot mess. You can
still turn the ball. Jalen Green doesn't think he's a
hot mess. That's you know what if I was. Unfortunately
I'm not doing pre game tomorrow, but keta victory Jalen
Green win the switches against Steph Curry. You have to
get by him. You have to, at worst case go
(33:26):
get a foul or at least try to go get
he got when he did draw one foul one. Yeah, yeah, ridiculous.
Must win tomorrow, very important that they win this game tomorrow.
It's a must win. Is very important that they win.
But if they don't, the series doesn't end. So oh
I think for Houston will end. Okay, ask the nineties
(33:46):
Rockets if if it ends when you get down oh
two at home?
Speaker 1 (33:51):
Yeah, that's true. It was against Phoenix two.
Speaker 2 (33:53):
Speaking of that, I didn't watch much NBA last night
because I was watching the Astros Shaquille O'Neil, and he
certainly takes his jabs by us and buy everybody because
he just doesn't care about the NBA.
Speaker 1 (34:08):
You though he works in it. That's fine, and he
does great and he's been.
Speaker 2 (34:12):
Able to carve out a magnificent post basketball crew with
his investments and endorsements and whatnot. And yeah, he just
sold a company and gave his brother a big check.
I saw it on Twitter and he's like, told him
to go buy a Bentley. That's nice, and I think
in Shank, I want that's how to check. He's he's
been in Houston quite a bit and he buys out restaurants,
which is kind of nice.
Speaker 1 (34:32):
I mean, not very few athletes do that. Yeah, good
for him.
Speaker 2 (34:34):
I think he's gone to breakfast club a couple of
times and bought people breakfast and whatnot. Oh really, yeah,
I need to go get in line. Is this all
a line there? Oh yeah, wow, I'm just not a
line guy. I know, Matt, don't roll your eyes. It's
not out of the ordinary. People don't go hey, let's
go find a place away. We can go wait for
forty five minutes. Oh sometimes you go to a restaurant
and there's a forty five minute wait. It's the same thing,
(34:55):
that's true. But I at least I know that going in. Okay,
I would for two eggs and some ham. I don't
know if I want to be waiting forty five minutes,
but that's a different Never know, We'll keep eating your Rennies,
telling yourself it's just as good. Rannies is fine by me.
I can sit down and orange juice coffee is off
my list. Why no, done for life? Something happened to you?
(35:16):
The one by me is the last two times I
got pancakes, they tasted like, uh, it tastes like cardboard.
You tell them that. No, I didn't tell them. I
just told them. I'm just never going back. You're not
afraid to tell people how bad it is. So are
gonna do send me more cardboard pancakes? You know what, Jonathan,
and I'll go to Ronnies will be fine. It's tasted
cheap and like I like, thank you very much. I
(35:37):
used to. I used to, But yeah, I had two
really bad experiences at the same one and I'm never
going again. So you've you just said forget the entire
chain based off Sorry, I'm lying. It was two times
at that location. It was one time when we went
in West Palm. The pancakes were terrible. That is true.
I'll give you that one then, all right, So back
to just shack for a second. So, uh, he wasn't
(35:57):
feeling well and when you gotta go, you gotta go.
And in the middle I've never seen this before in
live television, in the middle of a segment, He's like,
I'll be.
Speaker 1 (36:06):
Right back, and he quickly he scampered to the bathroom.
Speaker 2 (36:10):
And the way that he was walking, he was walking
like this. You need to go look at the video
of it. Matter of fact, we should post it on ourselves.
By his gate that he was trying to make sure
there was no slippage. So I'm gonna be burtling honest
with you. That happens to me about once a month.
So you know, I'm I'm going to give him his
flowers and say, fow, nobody wants to get flowers for this,
(36:33):
you know what, you kind of hear you'd rather get correctly. Well,
I respect his ability to say, you know what, I
gotta I gotta exit out of this segment because if
I don't exit out of this second, the other thing
exiting out of me. Mmm uh yeah. So he got
up and he scampered and first thing Charles said is
I may got any matches back there, or make sure
(36:55):
you bring the matches. Yeah, yeah, So there you go.
Oh gosh, what yeah? Did he ever did he say
anything about it. Has there been a statement release? I
don't think you have to release a statement because they
had to release a statement because they said a player
was dead and he wasn't. They did do that. That
wasn't great. Apparently have a player for the Portland Troublizers
(37:16):
back in the day. And Ern was very serious, but
he's like, I'm we didn't. We didn't do it intentionally.
It was kind of flippant, but we screwed up and
we're sorry. Yeah, it was, uh, what was his name,
I'm trying to find Henry le Jones something Baits? Oh,
hen you know what was Billy ray Bates, Billy ray
Bates and Charles was just joking and I was like,
(37:36):
you know what, we would do that on this show.
He was just joking all the time that Billy ray
Bits alive, and then nobody knew if he was alive,
and then Shag made it worse. Shack goes he's past
and he was alive. We've done that being guilty. We
have We're guilty ten fifty nine ols. At the second
hour of the Matt Thomas Show with Roll started, I
(37:57):
got feeling's coming up. At the bottom of the hour,
this is where you make our sports predictions. And I'm
I'm stayed away from the Rockets Warriors prediction because, look,
I have a vested interest. I'm gonna pick Rockets against everybody.
So it is just is what it is. Rockets and seven.
That's what I started with. That's what I'm sticking with.
Let's go. If this thing goes seven. First of all,
be happy. Secondly, I will I will be a basket case.
(38:21):
Oh I know I'm a basket case right seven in
Toyota Center against the Warriors. WHOA yeah.
Speaker 1 (38:27):
And by the way, I love me some fred van Vlip,
But Freddy don't talk.
Speaker 2 (38:31):
He's gotta be. He's gotta be better. And second, don't
talk about the crowd. Why what did he say? That
was wrong? See, everybody get all pissy about this. I'm
not I'm just saying not you. I'm just saying you
gotta be it'd be wow. I think going after crowds,
first of all, is always dangerous. And number two you
(38:51):
it's really tough to do it when you had a
really bad shooting. Okay, number I agree with number two.
He should not have said what he said. If you
if you missed it. Basically, I can try to find it.
But Fred van Vliet said, yeah, the crowd was great.
I've been looking for it since week, since I got here,
and I don't disagree with him on that, right. Yeah,
it's a large corporate crowd that just enters late, leaves early,
(39:13):
and doesn't necessarily get overly energized. But there has been
a lot of energy in the last couple of years.
This year's obviously been significantly different. It has been a
much more of a fun vibe build up than there
has been in a long period of time. Yes, and
I was kind of always looking purposely at the crowd
(39:33):
in Game one, trying to look around multiple times during
the game. As I said yesterday, there was a lot
of Warriors fans early, but then it was vastly vast
majority Rockets fans, which made me happy. But also at
pockets of the game, especially in the beginning, there was
a lot of the club seating. There was a lot
of empty seats, but the shirts were taken, which tells
(39:55):
me they're in the building, but people are just hanging
out in the club right which, by the way, shout
out to you all to hang out in the club.
Those prices twenty five dollars for a single beverage. I mean,
you need your drink on. You gotta get a drink
out it. Man, it's going you better bring the checkbook
with you. So I think it is that a lot
of the people are there, but they're just hanging out
(40:17):
in the club doing co corporate schmoozing and stuff like that, right,
rather than watching and cheering for the game. But the
crowd was great on Sunday. I will say this because look,
we have taken our shots at crowds for all three
sports teams in this town, not just the Rocket. I mean, look,
the way being done at Minime Park is an embarrassment.
Texans fans don't typically show up until the second quarter
(40:37):
because they're out tail getting in one. It's just who
we are as a community. I thought, I was. I
was fully expecting an overrun of Steph Curry every time
the Warriors and Steph Curry, and that didn't happen, No,
I thought, I thought. And it's in the first five
minutes certainly helped the dictation of that first five minutes.
There was a tremendous pop in the building. Helped out
(41:00):
the Rockets gofos. We start and then they only scored
seven points for like eight minutes and then said don't don't,
don't put the building didn't That's fine, this is what
it is, all right, seven one three, two one two five,
seven nine. If you want to jump in on our
conversation again, we've got gout feelings coming up at the
bottom of the hour, Rockets on the practice court today
it will take on the Warriors game two eight thirty
(41:21):
and we'll have some details on how you can win
some tickets coming up at the bottom of the hour
here on Sports.
Speaker 1 (41:26):
Talk seven ninety. Well, we do have two giveaways.
Speaker 2 (41:29):
If you go to my Twitter at sports RV you
can see we're gonna do the preset that we've been
doing preset giveaway that we've been doing.
Speaker 1 (41:35):
We'll be doing that drawing tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (41:37):
Also coming up at one o'clock, there'll be the phrase
that pays and when will we tell you the next
month with what the phrase is In the.
Speaker 1 (41:42):
Bottom of the hour there we go.
Speaker 2 (41:44):
By the way, NBA television ratings are out highest opening
weekend in the NBA in twenty five years. What yeah,
but the NBA was dead. Nobody cared. Well, that's what
the haters will say. Oh, Like I said, Betty, I
guess we're We're maybe the exception. But I've been watching
a lot of the playoff action. Both games last night
(42:07):
had drama at the end. They're really good. Nuggets Clippers
is gonna be a I think close six or seven games,
slobber knocker. It's gonna be fun. Yeah, all right. What
was fun last night was watching Hunter Brown seven more
scoreless innings twenty four collectively. The Diesel. I haven't fully
bought into the diesel, but I'm going with it. Yeah.
(42:34):
It's when I when I call somebody nickname, it's it's
gotta be to me. You call me jackass every day,
Well that's your nickname for me. I've been calling It's
been easier since twenty ten. Like I Ei, there's very
few players Like on the Rockets, I called Dylan villain. Okay,
it's just it is Dylan. I call a men. Thompson's
(42:57):
name is twin. His brother, his brother Assar is play.
He is a twin. He is. But it just you know,
that's also a slang that people just call. You say,
call him twin. Yeah, like what's up twin? I could
say that to to Jonathan. It's that's why it makes
me laugh when you say it to men on the interviews. Yeah,
because it's like you're using young kids slang. Well, that's
because like I'm a young kids say. If I to
hear it, twin, I think we have some of the internet.
(43:19):
I can find one of the interviews and calling twin
it is. It's pretty funny. That's his nickname. Nobody calls
him that, do they. Oh, the whole I didn't make
that up.
Speaker 1 (43:28):
The whole team calls him twin, Like the actually call
him twin. Yeah, okay, yeah, you can't evenine make that.
Speaker 2 (43:32):
It's not like like if I would if I can't
see you right now, Mat, Oh, what's up Twin? It's
not like that. No, though it's funny. Here, let me
see is my computer on. You're Matt Thomas with a
Man Thompson of the flour twenty eight minutes Twin for
you seven of eleven, fifty points, ten rebounds. Yeah, it's like,
(43:53):
what's up Twin? You say good?
Speaker 1 (43:55):
You said a good flow?
Speaker 2 (43:56):
Yeah, yeah, thank you. Matt's Matt's got young and him
is that the young hip slang? I like it. I'm
gonna be very confident telling you if he was not
a twin, I would not be calling him twin. No,
I think it's great. What's up, twin, Let's start just
calling you twin all over the I don't think you should.
I why not. I didn't fit. You and I are
(44:17):
the opposite of twins. I have class. We're more similar
than you want to admit. No, no, don't even say that.
All right, back to the Astros So, uh, yeah, the
Diesel for me is just I like it. It's it's
like a six out of ten for me. But it's
growing on me. And you know what if he keeps
throwing gas like he is out there, love it. Like
(44:40):
I'm trying to like who we call nicknames among players
who've had on the show. Uh, we've had Chas on before,
but I don't think we call him chassy Fizz. No.
I don't know we mentioned it though, you I think
one of the first times we had him on, because
that's his Twitter ki. Yeah, and you were like telling
him to change it or something. Yeah. I mean I
think I called bregmant ab. I've called him Braggs, you know,
(45:02):
but that's not I'm just not a huge nickname person, huh,
at least to your face behind your back, I'll call
you a bunch of unless it's twin yeah, seven nothing.
The Astros win yesterday, three wins out of their last four,
and they're getting their home mojo back a little bit.
And you know what, two games out even though it's
fourth place, still very early in the season. A lot
(45:24):
of teams facing this think about this ross. If this
team and a normal circumstances was hitting as poorly as
it is, this team would be nine games seven games
under five hundred, probably buried in fifth place in Division.
I mean, sometimes you do appreciate where you live geographically
and the teams within your America League West because they're
(45:45):
just purely pedestrian right now offensively, and they're right there
with the Rangers in the America League West. And I
just have three words to say about Hunter Brown. Lock
him up. I try to say, pay the man, lock
him up. Pay the man works too.
Speaker 1 (46:03):
Astro's history of paying pictures early.
Speaker 2 (46:06):
Let's talk Verlander has been compensated very well. Yeah, but
he was also like in his late thirties and forties,
Garrett Cole never got a deal with the Astros And
now you've torn my ucl and but doing the remake
of the Bran Muppet Movie. For so he's not Matt mccallars. Yes,
(46:28):
mcallers got paid, got paid. A lot of people are like,
what are you doing when that happened on arbitration? Yeah, yeah, yeah,
oh uh. Christian Hobvier got paid bought out arbitration here
or something true. And speaking of UCL tears, we don't
(46:50):
have a firm. I don't know if I'm Hunter Brown. Granted,
we're dealing with what we just we're watching now as
compared to what we watched a year ago at this point,
but can you kick the tires on a buying some
years out or do you? If you're Hunter Brown, like,
(47:10):
you know what, We'll have this conversation at the end
of the season, me you, Scott Boris, and Scott Boris
contained to shut your bo mess up exactly. You can
try to do it, or you should start doing it
now and Scott Boris and be like, I see you later. Yeah,
I know how you deal with us. You want to
return my text? He's like, oh no, you got my
number now. It's crazy how that works. Yeah, that's exactly right.
(47:33):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven, hoety, I always
think surveys are kind of interesting or for list just
kind of things that keep me interested in sports besides
x's and o's and whatnot.
Speaker 1 (47:46):
And Astros will be back in action.
Speaker 2 (47:48):
We'll have Joe Spotto with us at one thirty to
day to talk all things Astros. We have got feelings
coming up at about ten minutes from now. Uh, this
is coming from I don't know where he or this
swebsite is from sportico or a sporticle right and tell
you pronounced it? I think, yeah, be a sport cool.
It's yeah, top fifty highest paid athletes of all time,
(48:10):
of all times, all times, of all times. Okay, is
this counting like money that they've made or this is
only as professionals like Michael Jordan's a billionaire. This would
have to be because of everything sports related and out
of sports, in and out of sports. Okay, At number fifty,
just to can I give you a range of where
(48:31):
this person is. Carmedal Anthony is the fiftieth richest athlete ever.
Really yeah, he made five hundred and seventy million dollars
in his career. Okay, it's kind of put things in perspective.
All right, let's see, Rossie. I put you to the
challenge on they see how well you do with.
Speaker 1 (48:48):
Uh, we'll see how you do on the top ten.
Speaker 2 (48:50):
Okay, bors Becker number one, I'm gonna let you try
this again. I'll go with Michael Jordan number one, four
point one five billion dollars, number one, whoo woo, playing career,
Nike Gatorade. McDonald's team ownership, team ownership, although he was
a terrible owner, terrible general manager. Yeah, four point one
(49:15):
five billion dollars, No, number one, Okay, number two. I
want to go either Lebron James or Lionel Messi. I'm
gonna go with I'm gonna go with Lebron James. That
is incorrect. Lebron is number four. Okay, Tiger at two
point seventy nine billion dollars, that's easy. What was I
(49:35):
thinking with a lot of mine? I mean, it's Phil
Michelson's up there. Yeah, he certainly is. Yeah, I'll go
with Phil. In the top ten five, six, seven, eight, nine. No,
just outside of the top ten. Phil Michelson is number
eleven at one point four to nine billion. Is Leo Messi?
On the do they have World athletes on.
Speaker 1 (49:53):
Yes, Leo Messi is on there one point eight five billion.
Speaker 2 (49:55):
Woo. So let's go. We'll go from ten to one. Okay,
So I'm missing three. Yeah, you're doing You've done well. Ronaldo,
Christiano Ronaldo. Christiano Ronaldo is number three two point two
three billion. Okay, who you're knocking this out? Good for you.
(50:16):
I'm gonna go. Is Roger Federer in there? Yes, he
is coming in at number nine at one point five
to nine billion. I thought he might have been a
little higher.
Speaker 1 (50:24):
There are two names in the list you'll never get.
Speaker 2 (50:26):
Okay. Is Thomas Brady in there? Thomas Brady is not
on that top ten list? Okay, I'm show how Tony. No,
let me just let me. Let me give you ten
to one list. Ten to one at number ten, Floyd
(50:48):
Mayweather one point five two billion, Federer nine at one
point nine five to nine, beck David Beckham at one
point six one. I guess I could have gotten at
number seven, Jack Nicholas one point seventy five billion dollars. Really,
even more Golden Bear numbers are six Arnold Palmer one
(51:09):
point one point. Is this guy selling well? He's selling
expensive golf courses and golf clubs, Leo Messi at five,
Lebron James four, Christian Ronaldo three, Tiger Woods two, and
Michael Jordan number one. Other people on the list that
we would care about Chris Paul at number forty forty six,
(51:33):
six hundred and fifteen million dollars. Are you serious? Not
what I would expected. Let's go CP three. Hekevin Garnett
a few spots up at six fifty five. No way,
Kevin Garnett made more money in his life than Vanner
Holyfield at six fifty. James Hardenworth six hundred and forty
million dollars in career earnings. Damn, there are some crazy
(51:54):
ones in here. Peyton Manning seven hundred and fifty million. Yeah,
he was selling all those Budweisers. Tom Brady and on
twenty million dollars in career earnings. This is again, this
is his number? Is Tom Brady. They don't do numbers here,
so I have to do a quick check on his count.
Stephen Curry nine fifty, Mike Tyson nine sixty five, Greg
(52:17):
Norman one point one four billion, and the deuce Kevin
Norman Greg Norman one point four billion. I do have
some Greg Norman collection shirts that I got some coals
well the shirts and probably he's not as uh lifturs
doing them well for him. And then you got the Deuce,
uh Shaquille and Hill at one point twenty seven billion.
(52:40):
It's a lot of pizzas. The Deuce. Well, nobody calls
him the deuce after after yesterday they did. He's the diesel,
he is Jack Diesel, but he's the Deuce, mde most dominant.
They called him douce yesterday. No, he wasn't. They weren't
calling him deuce Matt. They called him duty calls, duty calls.
(53:00):
You're not calling him boo boo O'Neil. Come on, man,
crow a tail O'Neil, come on, man Manny pack yao.
Seven hundred and seventy five million, many pack, y'all. Kevin
Durant one point zero seven billion. Kevin Durant's a billionaire's
no way billionaire. One point zero seven billion dollars. Good
(53:23):
for him. I've had conversations with like five of these
people on this list. I kind of feel lucky. We're
proud of you. Met. I wondered how you get yourself
in this list somehow? No, I'm well done this list. Yeah,
I don't think I'll make this list under any circumstance,
but yeah, it's crazy. A lot of money in sports.
(53:47):
Thank you television networks. Thank you to the public. Thank
you the advertisers that support these things, because you've taken
carmental Anthony Granny going to the Basketball Hall of Fame
this year. Really nice player, mm hmm. Not one of
the all time greats Hall of super really good, and
he's turning it into five hundred and seventy million dollars
(54:07):
of his career. Just in front of him at forty
nine was Drew Brees at five eighty five, Aaron Rodgers
six twenty, Russell Westbrook six hundred and sixty five million
dollars in earnings. What is Russell Westbrook endorsing except big contracts.
He must have a shoe deal of some sort of apparel.
(54:29):
I don't know. He's also be in the league a
long time too. I think it's a Salt Lake Chamber
of Commerce. Been paying a lot of money. Oh, he
does not like going to Utah, Thanks you. Frankly, most
Ana players don't like going to Utah. All right, Time
for us to make some predictions, you ready, Ross, No,
how did we do last week. By the way, we'll
find out I was sick last Tuesday, so I don't
think I can't keep tracker. Never hear I wish I
(54:50):
was here. I actually wanted to be with you, which
is really strange for me to say as a grown man.
One hundred and two degree fever less than hanging out
with raw. I appreciate that. I'm glad you choose me
over a high fever man. I figured you'd like that.
That's what it all right? Would you like to make
some sports predictions if you would seven one three two
(55:10):
one two five seven ninety seven one three two one
two five seven ninety We're looking for you to come
in with your gut feelings.
Speaker 1 (55:17):
If you get them right, we let you brag about it.
Speaker 2 (55:19):
If you get them wrong, we largely forget about them,
unless they're so absurd we can make fun of them. Okay,
so we got gut feelings. Next eleven twenty seven, this
is Sports Talk seven ninety All right, we are giving
away a pair of tickets for the Rockets and the
Warriors tomorrow night inside Tota Center.
Speaker 1 (55:37):
Today.
Speaker 2 (55:37):
We're giving them away at some point in the one
o'clock hour. Make sure Ross I'm saying this. So we're
getting absolutely zero confusion in the one o'clock hour today. Today,
you're gonna hear me say one of my phrases that
I use on Rockets Radio, and that's nothing but nylon.
Nothing but nylon is the phrase that pays when I
(55:59):
say say that in the one o'clock hour, it'll be
organic in the conversation. Okay, you're gonna be the seventh
caller when you're the seventh caller to hear me say
nothing but not line in the one o'clock hour. Yes,
you're going to see the Rockets and the Warriors tomal
night inside Tota Center. Wonderful. That's the phrase that pipies
nothing but nylon in the one o'clock hour, and we're
(56:21):
not gonna say it again until twelve thirty. Okay, So
there you go, all right, gut feelings time. This is
where you come in at seven one three two one
two five seven ninety seven one three two one two
five seven nine zero, where you get two make your
sports predictions. Ross. How do we do from last week?
Speaker 6 (56:42):
All right?
Speaker 2 (56:42):
First up, I said the Rockets will play the Golden
State Warriors. This was before the playing games. Win. I said,
they will defeat the Warriors in seven. Love it TVD.
I said that the Astros would win, and this was
against Saint Louis last week with Hunter Brown on the mound.
It's a very easy prediction for me. They did win
two nothing. I said Hunter Brown would throw seven innings
(57:04):
of two run ball. He threw six innings of shutout ball. Yeah,
they shutout streaks now to twenty four consecutive. Lo, that's
pretty good. Yep. Oh No, I said, Jalen Green's gonna
go off for thirty plus in game one. Not real
close on that one. Mind be a game. How many
(57:26):
points did he score? No, I'm not telling you. I
think it was seven. It was definitely in single digits
and it was a lot of missus. Oh, it would
take a big l on that. I said. When mcclors
comes back for the Astros, I thought it was gonna
be this week, but then he had a stomach bug.
He caught what shatgut He's gonna throw four innings with
(57:47):
two and runs given up. But the Astros would win
the game. So that's TVDAL list. Hold on to that
one sure. Jonathan said that Ashton Jenti would go in
the top fifteen of the NFL draft and will be
picked ahead of Shdra Sanders. I think you're gonna lose
on that one. You think I think go in first.
I don't see what.
Speaker 4 (58:07):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (58:07):
I don't see why people I don't know why. I
don't a lot of people haven't stopped going down. But
when an owner steps in and says, hey, take a quarterback,
then that's where things can get right. It's a business okay, Yeah, yeah,
there's a business side to it for sure. Party also
has Travis Hunter top three, which I think is gonna happen. Say,
and not that mel Kuiper determines everything, but mel Kiper
has been very effusive in his praise how how much
(58:29):
he loves sir dor Sanders. Other draft Nick's not so much.
Speaker 1 (58:33):
It's in the eye of the bolder, right m hm.
Speaker 2 (58:36):
Now you and I don't study the film, which is
gonna help him. I think he's gonna be like Jane Daniels.
For me, when I saw him play, I was like,
this guy can play football. Remember we talked about that
l year ago, Like there were two quarterbacks in the
draft that I thought were just absolutely amazing. Huh. And
it was the Chicago quarterback Daniels, and I think he's
(58:59):
gonna be fine. He just needs an offensive line, and
the Bears have done a lot of spending and money
on that, and I think that the quarterback in Washington's special.
I'm ready to say, is my gut feeling, Shuldar Sanders
just a guy okay, not not a bust, not a star,
(59:21):
but I think you have to obviously have to hold
us for a while.
Speaker 1 (59:23):
Yes, But to me, it's got some components.
Speaker 2 (59:27):
I think there are some deficiencies everything I've read about him.
There are some issues with accuracy. There are issues with
uh staring down receivers and now again, good coaching can
fix a lot of that if you have the natural
athletic ability. But I will say, at the end of
the day, Shador is going to be just a guy,
probably gonna start in the NFL. They make some decent money. Okay,
(59:50):
But if I was going to put a comp on
him in terms of what I think his future could.
Speaker 1 (59:53):
Be, Will Loves better than Will Loves, I know you're
gonna run that in.
Speaker 2 (59:59):
I know, just a good old fashioned, middle of the
road starting NFL quarterback. I would say, boy better than
Andy Dalton, but maybe not much better. Oh that's rough.
The red rifle, you know, do them like that? Manute? Okay,
(01:00:20):
let me, that's a bad name. H No, No, that's
not bad. Actually, I mean it's fine. You're talking about
mid and just a guy. I mean theany Dalton was
just a long career. Pretty well, have a better NFL
career than Okay, I could see that. Okay, I'll go
with that. Uh. Also, by the way, I didn't mention
last week it was Gordy sitting in. Yeah, he had
the Warriors winning one of the first two games against
(01:00:41):
the Rockets. You got to win, well, could be two
must win Tuesday, must win WEDNESA, I should say, all right.
He says the Titans will trade out of the number
one overall pick. Whoever takes cam Ward will get a
bust relative to the number one overall selection. So he
(01:01:03):
says cam Ward first round pick, but not worthy of
one dash one correct. He says cam Ward is gonna
be a bust. What do you play college football? Miami? Also,
if he was an SEC guy, he'd be the greatest
things in slice bread. I don't know all right anymore
from last week, And that's it from last week. All right, Uh,
I mean another one. Texans will stay at twenty five.
(01:01:26):
They don't move, they don't trade, they don't trade. Okay. Now,
I think that Cassaria will entertain lots of phone calls
for it. I think if it's if he's doing anything,
he's going down as compared to up if he was
to make a move. It's kind of what I talk
walk in draft stuff. Is there a last chance? Oh,
I'll go, Texans go o line with their very first
(01:01:49):
draft pick. Whenever that draft pick takes place, I will say,
Texans will not draft at twenty five. You're checking the
field on that one. Okay, I can I'll accept that
as a field I feel bet. Yeah, I'll go. I
will say, line, but I can't guarantee your first round.
But I'm my gut tells me he stays at twenty five.
I will say, if their first pick will be an
offensive lineman, yes, that's what I'm saying. Okay, you said
(01:02:11):
that too, Now I think you're going on. You said
not offensive lineman. No, I said not. They will not
move from twelve. Oh okay, Okay, So you and I
agreement on both these things. That's terrible. That means We're
gonna be way wrong. Uh that's that's bad. Uh? Should
door Sanders top ten pick? I say yes on a
(01:02:34):
top ten selection? Should do or Sanders? Hmm? Man, I
could see I could see that going either way. Okay,
should do or Sanders' top ten pick? Yep, I'm gonna
go with three of the Texans first four picks offense
that feels good. I will go with the Texans. Will
(01:02:54):
drop the tight end? Ooh, okay, because I think if
Schultz plays like it did last year that they will
be willing to eat a final year of his contract
because it was a three year deal he originally signed. Correct,
go with that. Okay, NBA playoffs, Uh, we didn't. We
(01:03:17):
never made a Rockets Rockets win game two. Put that
down for my mental health. They better win game two
because I don't. First of all, I don't want to
lose the Warriors, period, but to have to do it
in a potential sweep situation, Oh, that would be depressing
Bay Area. San Francisco sucks and they's super expensive there
(01:03:40):
No thanks, Okay. Would you like to make a grandiose
prediction the series is not go back to San Francisco
a second time? You have you have Rockets, Rockets, and
I'm gonna have to say knockdown and dragged out, drag
out two great teams. John, what do you got this week?
Speaker 1 (01:03:57):
I think Paces make the conference final.
Speaker 2 (01:03:59):
Pace is hot take. That is very hot take. I
don't know, you know why because they score a bunch. Yeah,
he's gotta be thinking that at the end of the day.
They gotta be scoring about like Hobburn's playstyles so much
ever since he's like, shut up, I really like that
play style. All right, Pacers in the East. You want
to make an Eastern Prediction game two of Bucks Pacers
today on NBA TV. Yeah, I mean, don't, don't it
(01:04:21):
doesn't have Pacers games along an NBA TV to begin with.
Your Eastern Conference champions are the Boston Celtics. Sorry, Cleveland,
go ahead, fight me. No, I'm not gonna fight you
at me. I don't care. I don't. I wonder who
the favorite? Oh why do we hear that? I feel
(01:04:43):
like that's he's got to replay because of those segments
going yeah, I got you, I don't know. I'm not
gonna stay I'm gonna stay away. It could very well.
It's Calves. Calves are really good. I know it could
be either. I think the Calves are really good. The
Celtics are better. I'm really buying into the Calves lately, though. Well,
(01:05:04):
I'm not gonna fight you on that, Okay, it's one
or the other. Seven one three two one two five seven.
I know Houston got some predictions out there, don't you not.
I hope so, man, we don't bite here on the show.
Not hard we do. It's more of a right seven
one three two one two five seven ninety seven one
three two one two five seven nine zero.
Speaker 1 (01:05:29):
My four O one k will be up ten percent
one month from today.
Speaker 2 (01:05:34):
I hope you're right. I think things are bouncing back.
I'm making I got a feeling it could be what
they call the dead cat bounce. Oo do you know
that's that's I didn't even know that term. I'll respect
it though, Yeah, like dead cat bounces but it's still
dead Ooh yeah, I didn't make it up. Who'd you
hear that from?
Speaker 6 (01:05:53):
You?
Speaker 2 (01:05:53):
Watching some I was watching Fox Business where you're Fox Business?
You're watching a CNBC. Yeah, I put on a spectacle.
I've been watching Wall Street Journal TV. My ex stepfather
used to love Wall Street Weekend review. Oh my god,
Friday Nights, I'm like, can we put Dallas on a
Duke's that hazard? No Wall Street Weekend Review is on.
I'm like, oh god, so bad? What an a hole?
(01:06:16):
He was too, Yes, Jesus, that's a didy rass. Okay,
I'll just check it. I'm setting for you. I'll check
it when I get laid off. You're not getting laid off.
You and I are lifers here, whether you know it
or not. All right, anything more from you?
Speaker 1 (01:06:32):
Jonathan.
Speaker 2 (01:06:35):
Prediction wise, I'm looking at the draft again with the Pigs.
I'll say, okay, because I might obtain my answer to
this door at top ten, but only because New Orleans
has a nine pick and I think that's a good spot.
He might go in New Orleans. Okay, I got one
for you. This is a rather hot Astros tank. Your
(01:06:57):
Astros will occupy first place at some point in the
month of April. In April. Yeah, yeah, they're gonna go
to Kansas City. They're gonna win the series. Uh, and
then they've got oh you know what, let me let me,
let me, let me rephrase me, let me rephrase go
with May May fifteenth. The Astros will enjoy it. Now
(01:07:21):
may not May. I may not be stuck there by
May fifteenth, but by May fifteenth, the Astros will be
at least in a share or by themselves in first
place in the America. I love it. I hope you're right.
Likes to hear thats have a tough series the Giants
coming up this weekend. Astros got a chance to get
again on the road to Kansasity. They played well against
(01:07:41):
the Rolls typically, So yeah, I'm good. All right, sounds great.
You don't want to do that, are you.
Speaker 1 (01:07:49):
It's only two games, ross, not that big of a deal.
Speaker 2 (01:07:51):
Okay. I mean, I'm taking your word for it. I'm
just not going to back you, Okay. I hope you're right.
All right, let's see anything else. In terms of gut feelings,
we have sept one, three, two, five, seven, and if
you got the last chance to get in here. By
the way, great question from one of our Twitter followers,
uh At.
Speaker 1 (01:08:13):
It's Andre Jackson.
Speaker 2 (01:08:14):
He says, what about Jamal Mashburn, Vinnie Johnson, and Junior
Bridgman on that money list? Junior Bridgman passed away like
a month ago. He was worth one point four billion dollars.
What remember that we were talking all the businesses and
restaurants and whatnot. He ran in. He was running. Why
isn't Junior Bridgman on this list? Was dead? No?
Speaker 1 (01:08:33):
But I mean there are people on the list that
are dead, aren't there?
Speaker 7 (01:08:36):
You know what?
Speaker 2 (01:08:36):
That's a great question. Are there everybody on that list
alive or not? I think so? Muhammad a Leon there?
Uh No, Arnold Palmer's dead. He's on the list. Arnand
Palmer's dead. Yes? Are you sure? Yes he's dead? Yeah,
that's a great question. Oh man, he died a while ago.
You didn't know that.
Speaker 1 (01:08:58):
Huh.
Speaker 2 (01:08:59):
See we're getting in trouble like Shaq and Chuck Arizona
t he's on the airthon te oh the Black and White.
I thought he's been dead since like twenty sixteen. May
he rest? Yeah, don't don't prede him. He was. It
was a lot he was live. I thought he might
be still alive. Yeah, Junior Bridgman should be on this list.
He's not. This list is bunk hate you list? And
(01:09:24):
I want to say, uh, Jamal Mashburns made some good
money post NBA career as well.
Speaker 1 (01:09:32):
Really yeah, okay, yeah, again, I.
Speaker 2 (01:09:34):
Don't know how the def what's defined as you know,
how much of that is you know, it could also
be how much you've made in sports endorsements, could be
I don't know, but yeah, it's maybe it's a bunk list.
As you said, man, it make could be full of bunk,
that's for sure, all right, eleven fifty one. Here on
Sports Talk seven ninety it is the Matt Thomas Show
with Ross and if you would like to be a
part of the show, you may do so at seven
(01:09:54):
one three, two one two five, seven ninety. We have
the News Nude coming up. We're also going to play
some of the highlights of of the last night's win
for the Local nine as they knocked off the Toronto
Blue Jays by a final score oh seventh to nothing.
Tonight's Dollar Dog Night, which would mean a good crowd
out there, which means the chance of the wave increasing.
How many dogs are you going to crush? I'm not
going I'm gonna be working from the Kingwood Studios. Oh
(01:10:16):
you are. I always start going to Astros games with
my rocket season It's done, okay. I get very few
days to home these days, so don't take advantage of that.
By the way, shout out to those of you that
sent me tweets and did the at wavebusters Hou. They
did a poll and I want to say, Saturday's game,
m h.
Speaker 1 (01:10:33):
I think I do this like once a year about
what your thoughts are.
Speaker 2 (01:10:35):
They've been doing it. Yeah, it was sixty percent anti
wave forty wave. And that's saying something for a Saturday,
because that's that's your fringe baseball fan. Like I always
think the Monday through Thursday are the diehards, and so
I really give them a lot of extra push because
they're the ones that have to make the sacrifice of
(01:10:56):
you having to go down there and go to work,
get home, bring and get to get to get the kids.
Him down there this Friday, Saturday, Sunday crowd could be
the rosky crowd or the family crowd that wants to
be enjoying the way. But yeah, sixty percent in the
we're against the waves. So those of you that voted
against that, I thank you very much. By the way,
you see, Gordy made the Chronicle website he did, Yeah,
(01:11:18):
cron dot com or I don't. They're so so confusing.
What is There's like there's one legit website with the
real writers and there's one like bro writers and that's
just not really pro writers, you know, like, hey man,
I'm a writer. Like there's a lot of people that
think they're writers for like USA Today, and they're not
because USA Today barely acknowledges their existence. Okay, but point
being is that he went on he was on one
(01:11:39):
of the two websites and his tweet about how people
are going to games and they're getting the bobbleheads. Yeah,
getting the bibble heads, leaving and then going to sell
them money bait. Yeah, one some one joker will buy
like five ten dollars tickets and then go get five
bobbleheads and then flip them. People are turning in to
(01:12:00):
a business, which was not the intent of them. The
intent was to enjoy them. Correct. That's why you when
you get there for a giveaway, everything's usually gone unless
you get there like two hours away. Ask yes, why
can't you do that on the way out of it?
Because they don't want they worry about congestion leaving the stadium.
I guess, oh, hand them out on the way out. Yeah,
(01:12:21):
for people that stayed for the game, that's interesting. Yeah,
maybe things would slow up too much because when you
enter a game people enter at various different times, but
you know the stadium opens at six games seven tenths,
you're looking at about seventy minutes. So if you if you
were trying to leave the game, relatively speaking, you are
(01:12:42):
living around the same time period. Also, I mean if
you pay for the tickets and you get the bibble
heads and people are willing to pay for them online.
Oh I get saying don't knock the hustle. You know
we got the same twenty four what you mad for?
I can you know what I can do? I can
knock the hustle a little bit. Okay. I thought they
(01:13:05):
were given away as gifts to coming to the game
and enjoying having them in your office or your bedroom
or whatever the case. I don't think bobbleheads were created
and produced and handed out for you to go on
the secondary market and trying to make some side money.
So in this case, while I respect hustle, I don't
respect this form of hustle. I think largely if I
(01:13:29):
was to meet bobblehead guy, scumbag, douchebag. So I'm not
gonna respect douchebag. Bobblehead guy is when he can get
his free rack in the rocks. He goes to five
different racking the rocks and gets them all, tripling up coupons,
going to rick Rolet and getting three free chicken sandwiches.
(01:13:51):
When free throws are missed. You're in line at the
freeway trying to get off, and then he cuts you off,
so he passes up the line. Yeah. No, So look,
you and I hustle all the time. I don't respect
bobblehead guy hustle. I'm not saying I'm respecting the guy
I think you just did. No, I didn't. Okay, so
(01:14:12):
you have Oh yeah, see you're not listening. I didn't
come on, man, No, no, no, what what was the
frase you just said? I get the same twenty four
what you're mad for? That's basically a sign of respect, right. No,
I'm not respecting him. I'm just saying the other the
the other side of the argument, man, the other side
of the court. I would like to stamp this out somehow,
(01:14:34):
But how do you do it? Well? Again, it feels
like the easy thing to do would be to do
it on the way out. But again, I don't think
you want to logjam those exits. Ten o'clock at night,
people trying to get home and you don't want to
have to have people again that would be this. Now
they used to do that for baseballs, but they don't
(01:14:57):
get baseballs anymore because the people were throwing them on
the field, so they are having to do it towards
the end of the game anyway, right, Uh huh. But man, Gordy,
he was he was not happy with bobblehead douche no yet.
Also what he had happened, which is also bad, is
he would be one person saving a spot and then
five people would come up and be like, oh uh,
I'm with this guy. Number of bibbleheads you have in
(01:15:22):
your life in my I think I have the yord
On still tipping one, and I have a Jeff bagwell
On somewhere in my closet. I have never went. I've
never gone for one. Now have I received them and gone,
oh this is cool? And I have somebody always, but
I've never I'm not a collector by any circumstance. What
he is he Gordy's babblehead guy. He collects him though
he doesn't flip them. I was gonna say, if he's
(01:15:44):
he's a regular bobblehead guy, he like he might puts
him in his office. Yeah, there's he's got. If you
go look at Matt when you watch SEC locked onn SEC,
he's got like a thousand bibbleheads behind him, and some
of them were interesting. Yeah, he's bobblehead guy. That's fine.
But I get them. I like to get them and
just give him away to family. I respect the collection hustle.
(01:16:05):
Do I respect them going on eBay? Not so much.
It's almost like a I wish we could out those
people because they they didn't do it because they loved
the astros. They didn't do it because they wanted a bobblehead.
They did it because they wanted to turn a profit
off of it, which is not the which is not
the point of going to get a bobblehead. You're typing
on Josh Hater hot bobblehead. They're going for about fifty
(01:16:28):
or seventy five right now on eBay?
Speaker 1 (01:16:33):
Is there an email address we can attach it to him?
Go you're a douche goodbye?
Speaker 2 (01:16:36):
Yeah you could. I mean they have accounts Silver Gun
Superman selling his for twenty five dollars, fifty two dollars,
GTS Sitting selling for seventy five sweet dreams for you
selling for fifty not real astro fan, I love the
wave guy saying it for forty Baseball cards collecting store.
(01:16:57):
Oh geez, that's terrible selling one for fifty. Like at
least ten or fifteen of these on sale right now? Dang?
Should I just start selling these ones that I get?
I mean, I have some, my guess I have some
that are valuable something. I don't even know what the
value are of these things, but it's in the eye
of the purchaser. Correct, Yes, these are up forbid, Like
(01:17:17):
what's the most expense? Can you find out what the
most expensive astro bobblehead is available? Right now? There is
a Craig Bigio one for one hundred and twenty five dollars.
Oh no, that's like, that's not a bibblehead. Really, it's
a bronze kind of a bronze small bronze statue. Oh yeah, yeah,
that's different. Yeah, you know what. We will sell anything
(01:17:39):
at any time, for any reason. See American Dream, Matty
only in America. No, no, no, I refuse to accept
this part of the American dream. It's an American nightmare.
All right, Let's get to the highlights of the Astros
went over the Blue Jays. Plus the News at Noon
is coming up. As this is our number three of
the Matt Thomas, shall we take it till two o'clock
today with Ross I'm Matt seven one three two one
(01:18:03):
two five seven nine. If you want to jump in
seven one three two one two five seven nine. We
have the NFL rewind coming up in twenty three minutes
from now. But first things first, as we do every
single day at during this time, we present to you
the News at Noon and we will go to the
bill by Essa of Houston sports Journalist and we present
(01:18:27):
to you Rossville Reale. Well, yes, Matt, appreciate you going
to me. We did play the Houston Astros winning the
game seven nothing over the Blue Jays. Hearing the highlights there,
Hunter Brown very good. Here's what Joe Spotta had to
say about his performance after the game.
Speaker 4 (01:18:45):
Oh man, not surprise was that, Like he's like twenty
plus inning score is right now, He's going a role,
he's confident, dominant. You know, he goes after these guys.
You know, he's got this stuff, got the demeanor, you know,
(01:19:05):
you know, I'm just how how quickly he's turned around
from last year, how it started and where he is now.
He's been incredible to watch.
Speaker 2 (01:19:15):
There you go, Hunter Brown. Incredible to watch, the turnaround
very quick, the attitude as well. We'll hear from more
from Joe Spotta coming up at one thirty here on
the program, Matt. But he has blossomed into a full
blown ace seven shutout innings era on the year, down
to one point one six. You know what I now.
You call him the Diesel. I call him Cybrown. Cye
(01:19:38):
Brown is looking pretty good right now. He has been
the best pitcher in the American League since May one
of last year in terms of ERA, fourth best I
believe in all of baseball. So he's been really good
and something we didn't address earlier in the show, Matt
But is newsworthy. I suppose Jordan Alvarez hitting number two
in the lineup yesterday. There was an instance in the
(01:20:01):
seventh inning where the first place hitter, jose L Twove,
was out with a runner on base. So in comes
jord On Alvarez, who knocks in Zach Dezenzo with the single.
I'd rather have him up there than Esac Paratus. So
I like jord On Alvarez in the number two spot.
And he was also intentionally walked yesterday, especially for a
guy that at Gosman had some success against him. So
(01:20:24):
it was over ten going into the game life with
some strikeouts too, so ultimate side of respect. Yeah, I uh,
I don't know. It feels like to me that's a
little bit of an overblown conversation piece it is. But
no matter where everybody is, they got to hit. Yeah.
I think as long as you as long as you
get him more swings than anybody named Jose L two bay,
(01:20:46):
I am more than okay with it. Okay, I think
you should Elsewhere in the news at noon, Matt, you
had some NBA playoff action, the Pistons defeating the Knicks,
the Clippers defeating the Nuggets, both of those series squared
at one apiece. Tonight you got the Timberwolves versus the Lakers,
Game number two, nine o'clock on tn T. Lakers favored
by five and a half points in game number two.
(01:21:09):
Is that I must win for the Lakers, No, they
can lose a win for straight is they can lose.
Speaker 1 (01:21:18):
That's I must win for the Rockets to all against
Golden State.
Speaker 2 (01:21:22):
Nope, they can lose. Still win. It's a mere semantics argument.
That's fine. Yeah, we do call you mister semantics. Ah,
I think it's coming up two to six. I think
I'll stop all right. What else you got going Uh?
What else is going on in the news, Matt? How
about Damian Lillard returning into action in the NBA for
(01:21:42):
Game number two versus the Indiana Pacers. Of course, as
you know, we got the full breakdown from you on
deep vein of thrombosis, as he had been dealing with
some blood clots and it was supposed to be him
not available at all for the start of the playoffs.
But he is going to take play in game number two.
Damien Lillard coming back for the Milwaukee Bucks. And I
know very few of you saw that first game, but
(01:22:04):
he was quite blank talking the uh Indiana Pacers during
that first game. Big return of Damian Lillard tonight on
NBA TV.
Speaker 1 (01:22:13):
Will not be our topic.
Speaker 2 (01:22:14):
A matter of fact, have we taken a rocket call yet?
We're taking it. We have not taken any calls today.
That's fine. We want to talk to some rock We
have great listeners, we do, and we appreciate you. A
lot of people are getting was that rude yesterday to
our guy, the goofball that calls. Yeah, you're rude, but
it's Martin is a goofball.
Speaker 1 (01:22:33):
Was it warranted? I would say yes.
Speaker 2 (01:22:38):
He was talking about your wife, Matt. No, he was
talking about uh Gerrod's wife. He wanted us to get
to get how wrong he went with his wife and like,
we don't care. Yeah, that was a little bit bizarre.
Which is most of his calls, not most of they're
(01:22:58):
all of his calls. Yeah, all of this calls. By
the way, quick update, Louis Arias is on the concussion.
I l after that collision with Maurso Dubon on a Sunday. Okay,
some people calling out Mauricio Dubon, Like god, it's Padres fans,
they're idiots. Are there such a thing as podcast? Believe
it or not? I find start all right? I know.
I also made mentioned earlier Matt the opening weekend playoff
(01:23:21):
ratings the best in twenty five years. Yes, Commission of Silver,
of course, making sure to brag about that. Well, he's
got a lot of things on his mind that aren't
great about the league, but television ratings aren't one of them.
International interest is not another big television US. He signs
(01:23:43):
we we we as a sports society. If we don't
love something, we assume everybody else does. We we like it.
We had trash. It was like nobody likes baseball. People
love baseball. Yeah, I get I always tweeting about the
Rockets the other day and somebody's like, I don't watch
the NBA. It's like, why did you take the time
to type that up on your don't do it, sid,
I don't move along right, you know. I think let
(01:24:05):
me tell you, I think soccer sucks. I don't go
after people on Twitter for luking socker. Yeah exactly. If
you're talking about Succession or something, I haven't watch Succession.
I don't just go tweet you yet. I don't watch
that show. Okay, cool breaking news, brother, Yes, and I
just don't get it. But anyway, well that's happening a lot.
Uh And Shannon Sharp is in the news today. Very briefly.
(01:24:26):
The reason why I bring in this on the local
side is there's a woman alleging some issues with his
relate or her relationship. Assault sexual assault. He went on
Twitter yesterday and put out the tweets basically saying that
she was thirsty yes and wanted a using her phrase
put a big black baby in me? Man, why are
(01:24:50):
you bringing this up? The reason why I'm bringing up
guess who is representing her, Tony Busby local angle. There
we go, Tony Buzzy was representing the woman that was
suing jay Z as well, right in that case got
thrown out? Or yeah, I don't think he's batting a
(01:25:10):
thousand using a baseball vernacular. All right, Uh, thank you
Matt for bringing that to our attention.
Speaker 1 (01:25:19):
Well, I mean, there's not much more we can say
about it, but.
Speaker 2 (01:25:22):
I got nothing to say on that. Nothing. You know,
It's funny because you're supposed to like hold all your
cards if you have evidence that are supporting your argument,
You're like, you hold onto it. Uh huh, says Ah.
I'll go to the X platform. I'll make sure the
entire world knows exactly who I'm dealing with here. I'd
(01:25:45):
never even heard of the case until he responded, because
he put out these long, this long document with text me.
I was like, what is it?
Speaker 1 (01:25:53):
And I'm like, what what what you want to do?
What inside our what?
Speaker 2 (01:25:58):
All right? What a big black baby? I mean, who
speaks like that? Well? This woman Gabrielle is Zuniga. Apparently
have you seen her yet? No, I haven't. Matt, you're
gonna checked her in the break. I don't care. I'll check.
I really don't. Twelve fifteen. It is the Matt Thomas
show Wood rosh seven one three two one two five
seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven
(01:26:21):
ninety year. Well we'll hear this again in ten minutes.
We got the NFL jam. It is a good jam.
Would you almost would you wanna listen to that one
song on an island if you were by yourself? No,
there we go or this, I'd rather do this. Oh,
we had a caller earlier, one Paisana. He liked that,
(01:26:42):
like that could be a segment idea you guys do,
like figure out a song like it said John or
something like that, and be like is this like or
like make a situation, be like, oh, buy yourself on
like a zombie apocalypse? What song would you choose? Like
if I'm just you know, it was just give me
that idea to throw on two guys, HM, zombie apocalypse. Hmmm,
(01:27:05):
I'm gonna go with the Flight of the Valkyrie. Nope,
can't answer this questions. It's from Apocalypse. Now, all right,
I mean it's from Actually it's a denrosot shake your head.

this one, Saving Private Ryan Nope. Oh my, keep going.

bunch of no's. Now. If you want to go rom Com,
we can go on that. Ten things ahead about you,
(01:28:18):
excuse me, Ten things I hate about you? Uh No,
failure to launch, how to lose a guy in ten days? Yes,
failure to launch. Okay, you've seen failure to launch and
how to lose a guy in ten days, but you
have not seen any of Platoon Saving Private Ryan Apocalypse
Now or Full Metal Jacket. I love Catherine Zeigel period
in the story, whatever, cycle Hegel, whatever, Catherine is Zigel Jones. No,
(01:28:43):
it's Catherine Zeta Jones. Yeah, I mean it is what
it is. I watch wrestling. Did you don't watch wrestling?
That's what it is. I can go through a bunch
of watching a bunch of guys priants around their underwear
is different than not watching the greatest movies of all time.
Did you see WrestleMania one?
Speaker 4 (01:29:02):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:29:02):
Okay, Well then I was was I born? What's the
reason he isn't like violence? Violence? Uh, you've never seen
Good Fellas? Nope? So Casino the color purple, color purple.
Guess there's a lot of violence in it. Uh you
know what? That movie was forty years old. I don't
really remember much about it. That was why I guess
(01:29:26):
that was that when went Whoopy Goldberg first became a star. Yes,
I think that was a big jumping off point for her. Yeah,
ummm so yeah I don't. Yeah. Yeah. Rom coms for me,
bio pics, big time violent movies, no, okay, horror movies no,
No Halloween, Coker, none of that. And I was kind
(01:29:47):
of listening them all because I knew you're gonna say
no to all of them, but I was surprised to
hear you say no to Saving Private Ryan heavy violence. Correct. Yeah,
especially like the first fifteen minutes or like some of
the fifteen gorious minutes in History Days. Yeah. Wait. Superhero movies?
Speaker 6 (01:30:04):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (01:30:04):
Superman, Yes, Batman in the nineteen eighties, Not any of the
recent one Christopher Ee want yout any of the Avengers movies?
Speaker 4 (01:30:10):

I's gonna say. I gotta be honest. My point is this,
I work with you four hours a day. Yes, I
travel an hour each direction, sometimes longer. It's true.
Speaker 1 (01:30:46):
I have rockets, games, I travel.
Speaker 2 (01:30:48):
I try to see my daughter's volleyball beans when I
go to my mother's house for dinner. We went to
East Wind for Easter and Saturday. She's like, did you
see the show on Apple or this show on Netflix?
Did you see this show? I get the answers. Typically, No,
I don't watch a lot of television's not sports. I
don't go to see a lot of movies. I in
(01:31:08):
this wonderful life in which I live, I have I
have given up certain things.
Speaker 1 (01:31:13):
I've given up golf and movies and TV shows for.
Speaker 2 (01:31:16):
The most part. But she was Young and the Restless
every day. Not every day, but if it's on, it's on.
Well I be while I be in the bed working
on a Rockets game and have Young on the Wrestless
and the background. Yes, now you is coming out on Netflix,
the final season of You What Me? Oh, so you
like that? I have watched every episode of you You
or Me? No, just you w not you you Who?
(01:31:41):
So I will watch that. I do have a bunch
of Righteous Gemstones on the DVR, which my son. Yeah,
my son's like, don't give up on it, don't give
up on it. I'm like, I want to give up
on it. She goes. He goes. Once you get past
the mail and that I being exposed. It's really funny, Okay,
I did you know? Look, I loved House of Cards
(01:32:02):
The first four seasons. Fuck, I'm timing the just my
other That's why I said, Okay, I'm sorry, thank you,
thank you. I didn't mean they didn't even do that.
It's fine. I mean I peel the current back of
my life. That's what it is. Yeah, all right, Uh,
where are we going with this? I don't know we
were talking about we're talking about Oh, I know, we
(01:32:24):
were talking about Shannon Sharp. Shannon Sharp and that girl
by the way, there's a woman out there on Twitter
that on Twitter on Instagram is like, I'm not the
one associated with Shanton. She she put in her bio. Okay,
she's sorry. She's attractive as well. So and you know what,
ESPN's got some issues going What is up with the ESPN.
(01:32:45):
Shannon's been in trouble multiple times. You've got basically Steven A.
Smith using his show as a platform to run for
president in twenty twenty. Whatever. It is crazy you had
what else has been going on with you? You had
got is sued. He'd yeah, with that whole old miss
thing right, you can get to the worldwide later. Good
(01:33:07):
for them. Channon Sharp did release his statement. I don't
know what he say. I'm not here. Yeah, why not?
Oh boy, do we have the audio? Is it all
I do? How long is it? It's a minute? And
is it?
Speaker 4 (01:33:18):
Well?
Speaker 2 (01:33:18):
Not real? Quick? Friend, Ferry White to.
Speaker 8 (01:33:20):
My family, friends, supporters, and colleagues. I want to speak
to you directly and from the heart. This is a shakedown.
I'm gonna be open, transparent and defend myself because this
isn't right. This is all being orchestrated by Tony Buseley,
who is targeted jay Z. Tony Buzzby targets black men,
and I believe he's going to release a thirty second
clip of a sex tape that tries to make me
(01:33:42):
look guilty and play into every stereotype you could possibly
imagine that video should actually be ten.
Speaker 2 (01:33:49):
Minutes or so.
Speaker 8 (01:33:50):
Hey, Tony, instead of releasing your edit, put the whole
video out. I don't have it, or I would myself.
You know what happened, and you're trying to manipulate the media.
The encountering took place during the day at her invitation,
and now that appears to be a deliver set up
coordinated by Gaddy also known as Karl OnlyFans, Gaddy and
Tony Busby want fifty million dollars what they're getting is
(01:34:13):
sued for defamation and trying to take me down. My
career is all about real talking honesty. I know my
family and fans know exactly what this is about. And
I'm going to be out there telling you whatever I
need to say, just like I always do.
Speaker 2 (01:34:27):
I love all you guys. So the girls are only fans, huh?
I mean, man, Shannon, you you gotta be really careful
with your company. I mean, I know that their How
do I say this in the most polite way. Just
(01:34:48):
be careful who you're dating. And I think if you're
a rich, successful athlete, pro or current, you're gonna get
a certain clientele headed your way. And I just think
you gotta be careful because most people in America don't
have to go through this. Most men, even if they
have multipleitude of relationships, don't have to worry about extortion allegedly.
(01:35:16):
All right, I mean, don't help me out here. Just
be careful who you Yeah, be careful. She seems like
a lovely OnlyFans model. There are girls and there are
men that would do the same thing to women that
are just going to go after that crop because there's
financial bonuses that are attached to such things, have a relationship,
(01:35:40):
things get a little surly, let's start or let's text,
how about you want to have a baby? I think
we'll leave it at that, and that'll conclude our conversation
about that. But he's not the first athletes going to
go through this ex athlete, and.
Speaker 1 (01:35:57):
He will certainly not be the last.

I think one of the things that patients don't realize
is that when they get a joint replacement, that's not
a lifetime tree an option, and they're probably, if they
are a younger patient, signing up for multiple surgeries down
the road.
Speaker 11 (01:37:05):
As a physician and medical director for QC Kinetics, doctor
Caravelli's seen a pattern of trending joint pain, prolonged medication, steroids,

can be the seventh caller, so if you call quickly,
could be you, or we could hold the whole phone
opens for thirty seconds. Well, so let's be fair about this,
(01:40:18):
because I do want to take care of those people
that listen to us on the iHeartRadio app. We do
hold the phones close. Excuse me? We could you could
say the phrase and then we'll hold the phones closed
for thirty seconds and then open. So Jonathan, let's do that.
Let's let's just balance this out. We will not start
taking phone calls anyways. Say that again, not get any
calls anyway. I know I was gonna say, we can't
(01:40:38):
talk to anybody yet, nobody likes us anymore. Come on,
what I what have we done wrong? Just talk sports.
Let's talk some Rockets and astros. So here's we're gonna do.
We're gonna hold for our man, Mr LJ Of whatever
his name is. We're gonna hold. We're gonna close the
phone lines off for thirty seconds, yes, after we say it,
after the phrase, after the first and then that gives
(01:41:01):
you enough time to get in there and called it
in and be the seventh caller.
Speaker 4 (01:41:05):
M M.
Speaker 2 (01:41:05):
That seems fair. That's very fair man. All right, great job, No,
it's a great job. About you your idea. Rockets on
the practice court today, Wills play game number three, Game
three number two tomorrow, and then we have another couple
days off before the games. I know this is dictated
by television. But to have this thing go two weeks
(01:41:28):
for a first round playoff series, to me, if you're
playing in one city, you should play every other day
and then you take the two days off to fly
to go to the next city and get a practice
in and that kind of thing. That that to me
makes more sense. Golden State's been here since Friday, and
they will not leave until after the game tomorrow, and
(01:41:50):
we don't play again until Saturday in San Francisco. Now, again,
you're obviously a lot of things and things up with television.
It's for TV, baby, it'll tighten up in the second
and third rounds. Well, yeah, you want to play Oh yeah,
conference finals. You're playing every other night, basically, I hope
you're right now. Yeah, it happens. There is quite been
a long time, Maddie. I don't really remember. There is
(01:42:12):
quite a bit of separation between one, two and three,
and then once we get to four, it's every other
day of the rest of the way. So it goes
three is on Saturday, fours on Monday, fives on Wednesday. Yeah,
you'll have a lighter schedule, and Gris is to be
swept by then Magic will be out watching the look
(01:42:34):
you and I love basketball. Watching the East is a
little tough. Although last time around the East will be good. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
I give you that. I'll give you that. And Buck Pacers,
Bucks Pacers, especially with Dame coming back, could be interesting.
Let me give you a few things before we get
to the top of the arm. We'll get back to
the Astros on the Athletic did an NBA survey and
(01:42:55):
I don't want to go through all the different things
because some of them, to me, I don't think necessarily
are overly intriguing to the Houston audience. But there are
some things that I thought were interesting. This is an
anonymous poll of by done by NBA players. They asked
one hundred and fifty eight players anonymously a variety of things. Yes,
So MVP of the Year this year, Shake Gildes Alexander
(01:43:17):
fifty eight percent to Nikola Jokic is thirty seven percent. Okay,
no surprise on that, right, it should be Jokic. But
it's one of those things where we just give the
team with the best record. See, I really do believe
it should be Sga. I think he has been absolutely phenomenal.
Not that Jokic hasn't been incredible.
Speaker 6 (01:43:32):
Great.
Speaker 2 (01:43:33):
Joki's better well year to year, But I'm talking about
your individual numbers. I think this year is SGA's year,
is it? Jokich averaging a triple double? Didn't he able
to triple double this year?
Speaker 3 (01:43:44):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:43:44):
But he did it in fewer games too. I mean,
how many games is Sga played compared to Nikole Yoka?
And I can pull? I don't know, all right, so
let's get tell us some things real quick. Which team
other than your own will win the title this year?
Boston Celtics fifty seven percent. Oklhoma City seventeen percent. A
lot of people are in on Boston. Jokic played seventy games, Okay,
(01:44:07):
A few other things, Oh, Adam klaim, I hope shake
Gil just played seventy six You're gonna hate to hear this.
Spanish Manton five years from now, the face of the NBA. Oh,
Victor wembin Ya, I'm a fifty four percent. Oh no,
this is his fellow peer, the fellows of the Piers. Yeah,
(01:44:28):
Anthony Edwards thirteen to eight point eight percent, Shake kids,
Alexander eleven percent. And yes, Nicolae Okitch averaged a twenty
nine point triple double. This season most overrated player in
the league. Ooh, I like this. Do you think you
even know I? Well, Lebron, James Tyrese Haliburton, Tyres Haliburn interesting,
(01:44:48):
Rudy Gobert second, Jimmy Butler fourth among those group Let's
skip that one. That's an overly intriguing Best organization in
the NBA Celtics Golden State Warriors okay second, Oklahoma City
Celtics third, Clippers fourth, heat fifth, The Rockets don't make
(01:45:10):
the top fifteen. That's kind of a hard situation to
judge on how somebody else's organization is when you're only
it's only basically just about people talk.
Speaker 1 (01:45:17):
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. It's word of mouth, the chat. Oh,
that's a good group chat.
Speaker 2 (01:45:23):
Worse organization, Well, it used to be the Clippers. I'm
gonna go with the Charlotte Charlotte Hornet thirty eight, per
Wizard's second, Pelicans third, King's fourth, seventy six Ers fifth, six,
Ors Mavericks sixth.
Speaker 6 (01:45:40):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:45:41):
Best coach in the NBA besides your own, I don't
even know Siga Randa Kenny ackets Mark Diagnault of Oklahoma
City twenty. I wanted to say Mark Diagnoll, but I
didn't know if everybody in the NBA would say Kenny
Atcketts and Eric exspos the third, Joe Missoula fourth, Uh,
(01:46:02):
Emea Adoka coming in at number eight. That's pretty good.
Speaker 1 (01:46:06):
Okay, a few other things before get the top of
the hour.
Speaker 2 (01:46:10):
Worst coach in the league Brian Keith of Washington, Mike
Budenholzer second, Doc Rivers third, Budenholzer second, Doc Rivers third.
Speaker 4 (01:46:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:46:18):
Is NBA players voting this, Yeah, that's great. Which player
in the league would you least like to fight? James
Johnson overwhelming? I believe he's a black belt, right, Isaiah
Stewart who you can throw hands? Uh? Steven Adams in third?
That list some graduations, Joe Rocker, mcorrist and let's see
(01:46:39):
here a couple more.
Speaker 1 (01:46:42):
Are analytics good for the game or bad?
Speaker 2 (01:46:45):
Bad? Thirty eight percent? Someone in the middle thirty three good,
twenty eight percent? Okay, kind of mixed bag on that one.
Let's see here. Uh, do you like the idea of
ten minute quarters in the NBA?
Speaker 4 (01:46:58):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:46:58):
Seventy eight percent? Thirteen percent. Where's the other percent coming from?
I don't think it was in the I don't care,
no painion or something undecided. And let's do a couple
more here that I think would be good, would be intriguing.
This is a long man, it's a long article. Oh,
(01:47:20):
would you mean it's a cute one? Would you mean
favor of shortening their regular season if it meant your
salary would be smaller?
Speaker 6 (01:47:26):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:47:26):
Eighty six percent, Yes, twelve percent. Nobody wants No. Baseball
players don't want to reduce from one sixty two to
one fifty four. The NFL will acquiesce and say, yeah, okay,
we'll play eighteen games, so we're gonna get more money.
In the NBA, players want any two game schedule. And
that is some of the questions of the one hundred
and fifty eight players that were chosen to submit to
(01:47:48):
a players only survey in the NBA. And that's the
second wrap up, the final hour of this. We got
one more to go here, Yes we do. We have
very important hour, very important. We're giving those ROCKETLAYFF tickets.
The next hour. We are gonna hear from Joe a
spot at one thirty. And we have believe it or
not today where the category is I gave you one? Oh,
(01:48:12):
I wanted me to do, Shannon Sharp, I'm not doing that.
I'm not doing Gabriella Zuniga either, also known as Carly
on OnlyFans?
Speaker 6 (01:48:20):
Is that?
Speaker 4 (01:48:20):
What?
Speaker 2 (01:48:21):
How did you know? Is that what it was in
the story? He said it in the audio we played.
I guess well the audio wasn't playing Candy Crush. Number
of video games you play right this second, right this
second on your phone?
Speaker 6 (01:48:31):
Zero?
Speaker 2 (01:48:32):
I will play I play Now this is different on
the plane. I always play games on planes. Yeah, yeah,
I play you know what? I play my chest app,
I do puzzles. I will play craps on my phone.
That's it. You're rolling dice on your phone. Absolutely, and
then you go into the Getz. There a casino credit
button on there and it says if Ross is coming
with you, don't play. That's not true. See it's only you.
You're the mush. Whenever I roll dice? Was anyone else?
(01:48:53):
Ask Mo Morge. We're hitting points Baby twelve fifty nine
Final hour Matt Thomas Show, woulds is next? Doc seven
ninety is the final hour of the program. Coming up
at about twenty five minutes from now. We'll hear from
Astro's manager Joe aespotta. Are we doing the pulp on
the Believe It or Not?
Speaker 3 (01:49:11):
Today?
Speaker 2 (01:49:12):
We were kind of running out of things or these
famous diesels. There's shagged Diesel. Yes, there is Diesel the Wrestler.
There's the Dynamo mascot is named Diesel, is it not?
Or did they change it? What could they change it too?
Speaker 4 (01:49:29):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:49:29):
Yeah, it is Dynamo Diesel, Diesel the Fox. I think
we should things about Diesel. Okay, although Diesel hasn't tweeted
since twenty twenty one. Maybe he's something out of the organization.
Maybe they changed the mascot. Okay, So it's up to you,
(01:49:54):
all right, all right, Mack, it's up to you. We'd
like to do Diesel Dynamo Diesel. I think he does
a great job for the Houston.
Speaker 10 (01:50:01):
Do we.
Speaker 2 (01:50:03):
Seriously get me caught up in that every single time?
All right, final hour of the show. On the show tomorrow,
we will have shut your ball mess up. Yes, we're
also gonna I think we're gonna go to try to
schedule another member of the Golden State Warrior broadcast team.
(01:50:24):
Remember Tom Tobert playing the NBA. Yes, long tis on
ESPN for a while. ESPN he does their color on
the radio broadcast. Now, is he still bald with a
soul patch? I don't know if the soul patches. No,
there's no you know there's a soul patch. Nice, So
we might try to get tom tebart on the show
time what they're doing. Don't you get a soul patch going?
(01:50:44):
I think the bald with the soul patch look looking good.
Let me ask you this, do I I let it
gray out? Correct?
Speaker 1 (01:50:51):
Yeah, you can die it if you want. You go
Ryan Day?
Speaker 2 (01:50:53):
Could I go Ryan Day on it? Even though he
said he his wife defended him said he does not
dye his that's a lie. That is a flat out line.
I mean it looks jet black, but maybe he's just
got jet black jeans. Do you do you honestly believe that.
I believe it's possible.
Speaker 1 (01:51:08):
Yes, I believe it is impossible.
Speaker 2 (01:51:13):
That is his way. Anything is possible, and it could
be Ryan Dave with a like black Beard. We have
a friend of ours who remains nameless, who knows that
we all know he dyes his hair. Okay, and no
we're not friends with him, okay, But when asked about it,
it's like I I don't care about it, but my
(01:51:35):
wife wants my hair, Well, then do it. Then you
gotta do it. Ryan Day's wife wants that beard black. Okay,
so she's lying. I'll take your word for it. There
is I would be willing to bet close. No, we'll see. Well,
(01:51:58):
you need to get a good look at your eyes
on that thing. See if it's real. I'm not gonna
stare at that beard ever up close from a distance,
never ever ever. Okay, but it's it's that thing. Is
Walt Frazier and and Keith hernandez or jealous of that beard?
I get you like, I gotta be honest with you.
(01:52:22):
I think doing that makes you look bad. I think
trying to put hair plugs in your head makes you
look bad. You just gotta go with what the good
Lord gave you. Well, some people you insted your main,
your main. You are to be applauded for it. People
think it's attractive. I don't know why, but they do. Well,
also got very gray. Maybe I'll put a touch of
(01:52:44):
gray in there, sat a full gray. But what you
don't put anything in park in your hair now, So
it's just it's oils, but I mean it's but it
doesn't darken. Things are like fruit and juices and berries
you put you put berries in yours, but wine and cheese.
It's coming to America reference.
Speaker 1 (01:53:01):
Okay, let's go to mcdall's Apple the show you want
to let's go how about that?
Speaker 2 (01:53:04):
You've happy with me? Now? Yes? Thank you.
Speaker 1 (01:53:06):
Did you ever see Coming to America too?
Speaker 4 (01:53:08):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:53:09):
Yeah, that looked terrible from the jump. Maybe it's good.
Probably the reboots got issues well of the latent sequels, Yeah, terrible. Yeah.
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven ninety We got again,
Joe a spot coming up in about twenty two minutes
from now. James is with us here on the Matt
(01:53:30):
Thomas showed James, thank you for holding and good afternoon
to you. Yeah, you guys. More of the best player available?
Or would you want to pick a special need on
the draft? Well, I think if you're going off with
the textans say they are saying best player available, I
think I think the need is offensive line. That's why
I think they should go very heavy offensive line. If
not with the very first pick, certainly within the first
(01:53:52):
two rounds. Well, I think if Golden's available, they should
just grab Golden because I think a lot of their
sacks will coverage sacks last year.
Speaker 10 (01:54:00):
So if you can get a receiver then get open,
then he's gonna be able to get rid of the ball.
Speaker 2 (01:54:05):
I mean, obviously he has moved up well up the charts.
How do you fill out the receiving cor right now
for the Texans? Not great? I mean Nico Collins's stud
Christian Kirk is okay, Christian Kirker, is he a stopgap ord?
Are we thinking two to three years down the lad
he's still with his football. I think if he's healthy,
he's he gonna be very effective. I think that could
(01:54:27):
end up being a very good move. You know, honestly,
I think I am a I am a little bullish
on Christian kirk is the number two for this team.
I do he produces when he's out there, but he
just hasn't been out there. And as you know, Matt
injury prone can be a lie. Yeah, it's a very
violent sport. People get hurt all the time. It's not
(01:54:47):
necessarily predictable. It's almost like, if you can stay healthy
for seventeen games, you got you got somebody looking over you. Basically, Yeah,
it's a very tough sport. Let's use Tank Dell's an example.
Tank Dell plays support the right way. Yeah, but he
his frame is just not gonna allow him to play
sixteen games, seventeen games in the NFL. Last time Christian
(01:55:09):
Kirk played a seventeen game season, he had eleven hundred
yards and eight touchdowns. Yeah, you get that from him.
He's gonna be great. How long ago is that? Twenty
twenty two? He played twelve games in twenty three and
just eight games in twenty four. He can bounce back. Absolutely,
It's it feels like a very cas stereo type deal.
(01:55:29):
Let's catch let's catch lightning in a bottle and go
from there. You know what I'm saying, Yes, I do.
I mean, I just it's just one of those situations.
You just catch lightning at a bottle, Okay, Yeah, I
mean I can't come to the people. People can't be
generally fired up about a game. Guy to play eight
games to going, oh he's our number two, but staying
(01:55:50):
out fired up? But could it happen? Could it work out? Yes?
Could he be out for the season in Week one? Yes,
that's the NFL. You said it, saying it for about
all of those plays. Thats what I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (01:55:59):
I mean, you never know, one bad hit, one hit
to the knee, and you're done.
Speaker 2 (01:56:03):
Mm hmm. That's why, you know what I know people
get crazy about the amount of money that is being
spent on athletes.
Speaker 1 (01:56:10):
You're one hit away from being done.
Speaker 2 (01:56:13):
You just are well. And yeah, they are great values
to this these franchises as well. Again we talked about
was the Warriors of the number one value NBA franchise.
What if Steph Curry had been there the last fifteen years? Yeah,
where would their value be? Yeah, I mean, no disrespect
to Kevon Looney, but he's not he's not driving the
value of the goal. Brandon Pajemski. We don't love him
(01:56:35):
at all. No, we don't squirrely not a fan? Does
that mean? You know what scurely means exactly? When somebody
calls somebody squirrely, you know what I mean? Untrustworthy? Yeah?
Like I want to hit him right in the mouth. No, okay, No,
(01:56:56):
I want to go Paul Hammon on him right and
the old what that means in the upper up growing
area what he did on Sunday night during wrestling. I
didn't catch it. That reference went over my head. That's fine.
Let's talk to Gary in spring at one eleven on seven.
I think Gary, thank you for holding in. Good afternoon,
Hey you guys, good shows usual. Thank you. I have
a question when I'll win these rocket tickets coming up? Yes,
(01:57:19):
is you're an s on that? Is it more than
one ticket? Or how many tickets is it? Why would
we give away one ticket? Gary? Well, that's why I
was calling to let you know that it's only one ticket.
When I win, you're going to need to supply me
with an escort. No, no, no, there are nobody ever
gives away just you know a single person.
Speaker 6 (01:57:36):
Gary.
Speaker 2 (01:57:36):
Come on, Gary, you know people, you're popular? Well I
know that, but I I know you know people better
than I do. And I was going to give you
a description of the kind of escort I will be
interested in. Oh, you want us to get you an
escort for the game.
Speaker 6 (01:57:50):
Well no, if you were just giving away one take
no or not.
Speaker 1 (01:57:53):
We're giving away two tickets, two tickets to Gary.
Speaker 2 (01:57:56):
Have you ever heard of a single giveaway in the
history of giveaways of one ticket? Ever, I usually don't
call in on them. I'm gonna call it all right, Yeah,
wait for the crazy, wait for the phrase it pays.
Why why would people think we give away one ticket?
That's they'd be silly.
Speaker 1 (01:58:12):
I've gotten like five calls asking that same exact question.
Speaker 2 (01:58:15):
Did you say a ticket? No, you've been saying a
pair of tickets? Pair? Pair means two folks. What happens
when you have a pair of bases? Man, how many
you have?
Speaker 1 (01:58:25):
You get two of them and then you go all
in baby yeah, and.
Speaker 2 (01:58:28):
You lose in about you get busted by seven to
six and somebody hits three threes and you're like pissed
off the rest of yes, exactly. Pair means two folks. Now,
I will say this great call, Gary?
Speaker 4 (01:58:42):
Did you rye?
Speaker 2 (01:58:42):
Gary? No dynamite stuff, buddy.
Speaker 4 (01:58:45):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:58:46):
In nineteen eighty four, the USFL was starting up. Okay,
and my ex stepfather, who I hated life more than
life and my mother bought it for you, okay from
a uh Risler Reap ownership.
Speaker 1 (01:59:00):
Okay, they bought a wagoneer. That's how how old this was?
Speaker 2 (01:59:05):
Uh huh. And they gave us a little bonus prize
is here is a season ticket to the Houston Gamblers.
They only gave us one, Okay, so I guess there
is precedent. There is a nineteen eighty four Yeah, one
time your life changed forever. In nineteen eighty four, it
did I love the Gamblers. That was a big gambler. Oh,
I was saying, because I was born, I didn't know
you back then. Well it was an infant, all right, Uh, Joe,
(01:59:31):
spot it in fifteen minutes. Let's go. Let's go sep
one three two one two five seven ninety. If you
want to get in set one three two one two
five seven ninety, lightning in the pub. What's the problem, Matt?
The song blows to the spot. It makes me very
It makes you so upset. It does. We've only been
playing playing it for five years. We've played it for
(01:59:52):
five years and nine producers. Glad Jonathan's here doing a
great job. Tom says, I went to a co how
many show and they were giving away free tickets to
come to their next show in a few weeks. When
you texted this number, they texted me only one ticket. Yeah,
you can't go to You can't go to a comedy
by yourself, although I've done that once I was in Vegas.
I went and saw a carrot Top by myself. Laughed
(02:00:13):
my ass off I think I'm the only person thinks
Kyra top's funny. Yeah you he drafted them in your
top five comedians of all time. I didn't go so.
Speaker 1 (02:00:20):
Hot for you, Yeah, but I did. I did win
the started that Live top five.
Speaker 2 (02:00:24):
Oh my god, that was diculous, fantastic and Thompson don't
even get me started. I got the belt, by the
way after winning last week. Oh yeah, that was a
robbery too, But that's okay less So it's funny. It's
always a robbery when I win, and when when you win,
it's because they give win some close ones. But normally
you're just a bad drafter. That's why I win the
majority of the time. You're at about sixty forty. I
(02:00:45):
would say, I think it's more than that. Sixty five
thirty five. I'm gonna go seventy thirty. I don't think
that's the case. I think there's an argument for eighty twenty.
If we went back and looked through all of them.
You're getting crushed for a while there. I stopped doing
the bit for years because you were losing everybody, because
you were paying off your people. Oh my gosh, I
don't have any friends. That's actually evident. Yeah, all right,
(02:01:07):
So tonight in the NBA we got three games. Yes, Bucks, Pacers, Grizzlies. Good,
Dame Willard is coming back, don't men, Miles Turner, Tyrese Halliburton,
Joannison and the Goombo Dame Lillard. That's good NBA action.
Come on now, NBA TV. They're happy to have the game.
They're not real thrilled. U Grizzlies thunder and that's a man.
(02:01:30):
I'm about to get the thunder about to choke out
the Grizzlies. Let me uh, Oklahoma City has a seventy
nine percent chance of winning. The current line. If you
were too bet on it would be fourteen and a half.
I would probably take Oklahoma City give up the fourteen
and a half close for a while, then Oklahoma City
(02:01:50):
pulls away late. I got to bounce back at some point.
Grizzly Lakers game number two of that series. Tonight Minnesota
won nothing. Rockets play the Golden State Warriors tomorrow night. Yes,
you know what. I was anti T shirt for a while,
but the T shirts I have to change my viewpoint
of this. The lift off any T shirt, Oh, the
(02:02:12):
playoff T shirts. They've been doing it for like a
decade now, well everybody's been doing it, But I was
an anti T shirt for a while, thinking this the
low hanging fruit, not much originality. It kind of glistens
the arena a little bit. It makes it feel like
there's more togetherness. Yeah, yeah, it makes the game feel bigger.
You could do the wave of the pom poms. You
could do the towels. The T shirts are always a
good value. Then you're all in, Like when that happens
(02:02:34):
in the Astros, you're inhaling all this towel dust. I
don't think it's healthy. Those are good problems to have. No,
it ends up on all Like my laptop is covered
in orange little orange hairs or towel threads, fibers. What
do you think Jonathan should keep that? See, I'm thinking,
I don't know what they're made of. If the Rockets
(02:02:56):
make it past this round, now they're on T shirts, okay,
and they should honor me for my great Why should
they honor you because I'm a part of the team
in a very small way, And I know you think
that actually should they should get the T shirt? Say
Houston Rockets versus either what Minnesota or the Lakers don't
have to put the They would never put the opponent
on there. Houston Western Conference semifinals and they should put
(02:03:16):
an all bold nothing but nylon. Don't you think i'd
be the perfect shirt? I have nothing but nylon. That's
it perfect. I can see it working, but you know
I could I could see it.
Speaker 1 (02:03:26):
You could see it working shirt like you know the
back of a shirt, like turn around.
Speaker 2 (02:03:31):
I think you put it on the front. No, let's
just go with lyft off like they did for Game one.
I think that's alon would be better. No to me,
I mean they they love on the Rockets, can't love
on Craig and Vanessa and Ryan enough that I train
west when I get absolutely zero run. You never see
hotlights of us. You never see him in promotional videos.
So you know what, you must get one shirt. Let's
(02:03:52):
get one shirt was on there, and let's knowe to me,
that's all I'm asking. I'm not asking for much, not
asking much at all. I've been on three two one
two five seven on if you want to jump in
and say hello seven one three two one two five
seven nine zero is we have Joe Spott coming up
in a couple of minutes. Wonderful. What else go on
your way in my world? Yeah? Uh, I'm happy to
(02:04:14):
rest tonight and I'll be going on for I'm really
sad to be missing game two tomorrow because I'm going
to the kindercle Mark answer.
Speaker 1 (02:04:20):
Okay, I want you to just to show you folks
who are working with you.
Speaker 2 (02:04:23):
I'm really sad. Really it's hurting. He has a choice
of sitting nice. No, no, sorry, you're not gonna a
nice You have a chance to go see your beloved
Rockets basketball team, or go see the pocostal of the
music industry. Well, it's a very difficult decision for me. Now,
let me ask you. I don't want to worry. I've
been waiting for playoff games. I love working playoff games.
(02:04:44):
You love being in the very post. I love being
in the building pre and post games. Right, but I
was able to acquire some tickets from up here at work.
Will you watch the game on your phone? I will
be keeping an eye on it for for some of it.
I won't watch it the whole concert. I'm gonna I'm
gonna go home and watch the game. I will so,
(02:05:05):
I mean, look, I mean it's my job to watch
these games. And jurism, analyze them and give my opinion.
So after the concert, I will be staying sober for
this concert because I will be going home and watching
the Rockets game. So I can actually call you. Can
I call you ahead of time and tell you what happened.
I'm gonna know what happens. I'm still gonna watch the game.
I want to know how's Jalen Green doing on swing?
How Steven Adams looking with crashing the boards? What's albrynching
(02:05:28):
Gooon looking like? Is he gonna be turning the ball over?
All that little stuff. I love watching the game, so
that's good. I'm gonna watch the game, all right. It's
like a short time out. We have a winner, by
the way, we do. What's his name? Chris, Chris Rainwater Rain,
I tell you what, my goodness, Chris Raynewater is going
to the game as an enterprising young man. He is
(02:05:51):
he was born in South talk Ta, Oklahoma. Oh, Chris Rainwater,
you won't.
Speaker 6 (02:05:56):
Talk to him?
Speaker 2 (02:05:57):
Yeah, he said, wanted to go to the Rockets game.
And I listened to the Matt Thomas Show with Ross
tended to Sports Talk seven Oni where I played by
the rules. Congratulations Chris Rain, you're going to see the
Golden State Warriors. I remember quite a gold rush back
in eighteen forty and he went to the game with
one of his bros. Hopefully he got to the arena.
(02:06:19):
It is a pan of tickets by the way, and
he saw a young maiden who was heavy chested. Can
I please buy you a cold? Be a well? How
could you tell him? Those days everybody's I'll cover talking
about tomorrow. Oh, tomorrow, tomorrow. Christian off Talent was in
the building on Sunday. You're going to meet a heavy
chested woman tomorrow. How you feel about that is that's
your own decision. We were talking about meeting a special
(02:06:42):
someone at Rocket Games. Could you imagine meeting that special
someone ross if that other special person he happened to
meet is.
Speaker 1 (02:06:52):
Wearing a jersey of the other team you're rooting against.
Speaker 2 (02:06:57):
Like, you see this girl from a very far distance,
You're like, she's beautiful and she loves sports. She's in
the game, and she's we're in a steph cursey, Curry jersey.
It's fine, Matt, doesn't matter what color of the jersey
is when it's on the ground, Like, I'll tell you
it was a little dice in the Thomas household during
Duke versus Houston. Yeah, that's a little spice of life, right,
(02:07:21):
I did. I didn't necessarily enjoy it. We weren't together,
so it wasn't that like if we were in the
same room together it would have been a little awkward.
We weren't, so I was separate. I was in San Francisco,
she was in Reno. So it kind of worked out that. Well,
you had a good buffer zone. Well, we have a
lot of people that have called the show in the
years passed and said, hey, my wife's a Cowboy fan,
I'm a Texans fan, and you have people who are
(02:07:43):
like Longhorns and Eggi's married. Yeah, And the easiest thing
I would treat it like I would treat politics, Just
don't discuss it. Okay, what you're saying. Yes, if there
are three things in life, though, I feel like a
marriage where you're really politically divided is probably a little
more difficult than the sports team, right right, right, Like
(02:08:04):
there among my friends, my closest friends, there are three
things we don't talk about. Religion, politics, and how you
raise your children. You don't talk about how you raise
your children. It feels like you need Deddy. Yeah from
a young guy. Why do you what's up with that?
Because some people will have a different philosophy about what
you get away with your kids should be punishing, banking,
(02:08:26):
going out, curfews, that kind of thing. Now, if you
are like minded, it's kind of like, hey, you know
my daughter, she was an hour late, or hey my son.
Speaker 1 (02:08:37):
Did I figure you would go for advice?
Speaker 2 (02:08:42):
I would not that I wouldn't, but I just don't
think I've ever done so. But I would say most
of my But like, if we're in a casual setting
with people here at the office, I mean, we have acquaintances,
but we don't have a lot of tight friends in
the office here. I wouldn't get into a deep seated
conversation about raising children in our office place. But if
(02:09:03):
I have a really really intimate group of friends, I
would probably do that same thing. With legend in politics.
But generally speaking, those are three taboo top conversation pieces, okay,
because I don't want anyone telling me how to raise
my children. Oh I'm telling you for decades, I know,
and look what happened. One of them spent too much
time with you? Seven one, three, two one two five
seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven
(02:09:25):
ninety We do have another pair of tickets for the
Rockets we can give away tomorrow, and Ross will tell
you how that happens in just a couple of seconds here.
But I do want to get a phone call in
before we talked to the manager of the Houston Astros,
and let's talk to Dave and Spring on sevenin eight
one thirty five.
Speaker 3 (02:09:40):
Hello, Dave, Hey, Matt Ross. I'll tell you what I've
gone to Rocket Games. I've never met any women there,
but apparently some guys, well maybe they don't meet him there.
But what always strikes me is how many grandfathers are
there with their beautiful granddaughters. It's really just something, you know, tremendous.
I don't know if you notice it.
Speaker 2 (02:10:00):
I absolutely notice I do. I do know what you're saying.
Thank you, Dave for the phone call. A lot of
granddads with their granddaughters, and they're wearing a lot of
scantily clothes. The granddaughters are scantily clad. Im than that,
you know, say anything, I got no comment, that's fine.
Let's talk to our friend Joe Spotty. He is the
(02:10:21):
manager of your Houston astros with us here on Sports
Talk seven ninety at one thirty six.
Speaker 4 (02:10:26):
Skip.
Speaker 2 (02:10:26):
It's Matt Ross. Thanks for joining us. Hey, I felt
like last night listening to you in the post game show,
somebody said, hey, what do you think about a Hunter Brown?
You are like measured because you couldn't think of more superletves,
the guy's been lights out for you. Have you had
a chance to really boast now that you've had twenty
four hours away from the ballpark.
Speaker 6 (02:10:45):
You know he is, he's been He's been really really good.
And the beauty of it is that there is potential
to get even better. Like he's old game, right, I
think once you reach this level where he is now,
(02:11:06):
where we know he's got the stuff, and you know,
you got all the teams talking about facing Hunter Brown.
Now he's creating that consistency where you show up every
single night and you get your team an opportunity to
win the game.
Speaker 2 (02:11:21):
Right, you know it's doing that.
Speaker 6 (02:11:23):
He's becoming that guy now is you know long term right,
it's Hunter Brown is becoming that ace. And I've been
watching him transform into this guy where we we you know,
we lean on him like dude, you know we we
got an opportunity to win a game and an opportunity
(02:11:44):
to win another series at home. I feel great about
you know, we all feel great about Hunter Brown getting
the ball in game on.
Speaker 2 (02:11:50):
That's that's where he's at right now. Literally last night
it was like him throwing darts at a board and
hitting the bulls eye. I mean he when he was missing,
he wasn't miss and by much.
Speaker 5 (02:12:01):
No.
Speaker 6 (02:12:01):
And the thing is that when he when pitch, but
you know, when hitters are following pitches off, he's like,
you know what, shit, here you go.
Speaker 2 (02:12:11):
Here's ninety nine down the middle.
Speaker 6 (02:12:13):
Right when you when you have confidence and I'm just
going to just challenge you with my best in the
heart of the play. I don't care if I get hit,
but I'm not going to walk you.
Speaker 2 (02:12:25):
Once.
Speaker 6 (02:12:25):
When you reached that level of confidence, now you're doing
some some stuff right now. Now it's when you're like,
oh my god, this guy is real. This guy's not
afraid of contact. This guy is actually coming at you
against a really, really good lineup, and you know he's
just he's becoming.
Speaker 2 (02:12:42):
One of the best in the games. You also made
a lot of change yesterday moving yourd on to the
second spot. Initial thought about that, got on base couple
of times, including the obligatory intentional walk, which I'm more
than okay with, and it helped out a little bit
because you got to crook a number and in the.
Speaker 1 (02:12:57):
Middle of the game, which was a nice surprise as well.
Speaker 6 (02:13:00):
Yeah, you know petis right now, he has been our
best hitter. We managed scoring position, and you know, the
more the more traffic we could get on in front
of him for him to get big hits, like the
night before where he got the big hits to center
against San Diego. He did it again last night after
they walked Jordan. You know, he really has a feel
(02:13:22):
for RBIs so trying to I'm just trying to create
some you know, some moments there where our best guys
come up to the play offense and try to give
our offense sparking, trying to give our starter Hunt Brown
this case and our bullpen and an opportunity to pitch
with the lead. And he worked out really well last night.
Speaker 2 (02:13:43):
Yeah, I'm a big fan Joe of Alvarez hitting second,
and it happened last night in that seventh inning when
he was able to come up and knock his zenzo
in what.
Speaker 4 (02:13:53):
What is that?
Speaker 2 (02:13:54):
Is there anything you talked to him about it? How
does Jordan feel about it? He's just say, hey, put
me wherever and I'm going to hit.
Speaker 6 (02:13:59):
Yeah, you know, yeah he is. He's like that, he
puts me wherever type of you know, he's so good.
Speaker 3 (02:14:04):
I you know, I look at I look.
Speaker 2 (02:14:05):
At it this way, and I present it to him
this way.
Speaker 6 (02:14:08):
If you look at the best lineups in the game,
the tool hitter are you know, we're talking about the
Bobbie Witt Juniors of the world, of vladimil Guerrero's, the
Mookie Betts, the Aaron Judge. You know, those are the
guys when the game he's on the line and you're
going to hear me say this all the time. Seven
eighth inning, that two spot right behind.
Speaker 2 (02:14:29):
Al Tuove, it comes up all the time. Having someone behind.
Speaker 6 (02:14:34):
Al Tuove with a presence that okay, this guy's but
also helps out Altuve get.
Speaker 1 (02:14:39):
Better pitches to it.
Speaker 6 (02:14:40):
And now you know, both both of our best hitters
are getting you know, big a bats, getting pitches to
hit in high leverage moments.
Speaker 2 (02:14:50):
Astro's manager Joe a spotted with us here on Sports
Talk seven ninety. Also some good production last night from
the back end of the lineup. Uh. You mentioned last
night in the post game Zach Desenz will be back
in the lineup today. Was that something planned or something
you're saying, Hey, I'm going with a hot hand.
Speaker 6 (02:15:06):
No, no away planned. I do going to you know,
I gotta wait, this is breaking news.
Speaker 2 (02:15:13):
I am going to wait for him.
Speaker 6 (02:15:15):
He when he slid in second base yesterday on the double,
he's second double left field, he kind of jammed his thumb,
So I am waiting for him to come in. He's
getting treatment right now. He's going to hit in the
cage and hopefully he doesn't need a day to heal
that thumb. So I wanted to give him back to
(02:15:38):
back days. My plan is to give him.
Speaker 2 (02:15:40):
Back to back days.
Speaker 6 (02:15:41):
But I am waiting for him to tell me how
he feels and.
Speaker 2 (02:15:45):
Has it been a little bit of a not a struggle.
But you're always trying to wiggle guys in. You want
to make sure that Cam learns right field and get
everybody their proper opportunities be bouncing left field in the
DH spot. Is Zach a tough spot because you want
to see him do what a little bit of everything
in the infield and outfield and still get it plenty
of the bats, because look, you hate young players that
(02:16:05):
just don't get the opportunity to get there, you know,
two or three play appearances per night if they can, no, no,
you do, man. It's it's tough.
Speaker 6 (02:16:13):
It's a tough balancing act because they are guys that
we this is this is our future, right and I
want to give these guys opportunities to play. And the
best way for you to, you know, to play and
get better is by gaining that experience on the field,
learning from your mistake, learning from the up and downs
of a very long season. So this first month I've
(02:16:33):
been trying, the first three weeks, I've been trying to
get every one opportunities to play, and and and and
once it does settle, some of these guys need to have,
you know, every day at bats. You know the Jordanzel too,
with the Jeremy's the paradis to walk with. Those guys
are penciled in there every day. But then it's the
other players to rogers at Dubon who we know how
(02:16:54):
you know how good Dubon is when he gets every
day at bats, he's his ability to play put the
ball in play, he defense, so trying to get all
these guys in and we have we have had every
Thursday off. He makes it a little bit challenging. But
once we get into May, when we have seventeen straight,
now you want to see more bats to go to
a lot of these players.
Speaker 2 (02:17:14):
I think he used the term breather for Christian Walker yesterday,
and maybe I'm paraphrasing here, but what is exactly like
for a veteran player that has had so much success,
no matter what uniform he said, not to have the
kind of month he's had for you, what was a
breather like for him? And what did you see from
his demeanor? Just kind of maybe chit chatting during the
game course of the game.
Speaker 6 (02:17:32):
Yeah, just just being able to come in and relax.
You know, for me, the best breather was when I
brought him in the night before in my office and
tell him I was going to give him the breather,
you know, for us to breathe together and talk about
stuff like you know, this guy comes in, you know,
he comes as a free agent, you know, to expectations
are high and he wants to produce and he is
(02:17:54):
he's a producer. That's all he's done in his career
at the mental league level, and sometimes is coming to
a new organization, it could it could be, it could
be a lot, and you can probably try to do
too much. And and that's understandable, and he wants to
do well and he's and I know he's going to
do very very well. But sometimes you just need to
press the post post button and became a breeder and
(02:18:16):
you know, get him back in there to day and
hopefully that gets some that gets some going.
Speaker 2 (02:18:20):
Last question Forrest gives you the two innings last night,
You're about to have skip and this is a wonderful
problem to have a little bit of a logjam in
your bullpen and maybe if Lance comes back the next
few weeks starting rotation, So uh, have you started in
the back of your mind thinking about, man, what am
I going to do here? Especially if I can get
Forest Whitlan to get me six outs when he pitches
for me.
Speaker 6 (02:18:40):
Well, I'm telling you it's not a bad problem, half Matt.
And you know, you know our season how he went
last year, you could never have enough pitching. And you know,
once you know Lance gets back, it's going to be
doing that stretch if we go seventeen straight. So we
are going to go into a six man rotation and
we're going I have to have a you know, one
(02:19:01):
less guy in the pen. So having guys like Forest
who could go multiple innings and he could punch people
out is huge, right, So right now it's not a
back problem. I'm happy that you know, Forrest, he's healthy,
he's he's a force when he's in the when he's
on in the zone. So it was great for him
(02:19:22):
to give us two innings. And I'll stay away from from.
Speaker 2 (02:19:24):
Our back end.
Speaker 1 (02:19:25):
Guys, Skip great stuff is always.
Speaker 2 (02:19:27):
I need you to get a different shirt on because
your your shirts before game one with the Rockets and
helps we got to changings up a little bit. Can
you can you help us out a little bit? Get me, yeah,
give me, give me a give me one and I
and I wear it a big game tomorrow, right oh
my god. Yeah. Yeah, You're gonna win first and then
we're and then the Rockets are gonna win second. So
you you you you need to start things going for
the for the local city if you don't mind, all right, fellas,
(02:19:48):
you got it, Thank you very much to get Joe
spot with us. Here at one on Sports Talk seven

Anthony Edwards, What did he say?
Speaker 4 (02:20:13):
Man?
Speaker 2 (02:20:13):
I was in Los Angeles over the weekend to play
game one of that series in which the Wolves beat
the Lakers. Uh huh, And he was arguing with a
fan and he told the fan that his blank is
bigger than his? And then what blank is D? The
exact what was my D is bigger than yours? And
then he takes his hand and puts it on his
(02:20:35):
D and shoves it and shows him that indeed, size
does matter. Fifty dollars in NBA finding him for the
the size reference. That's cost you for that to run
you fifty g's. Yeah, it's tough, tough scenes.
Speaker 1 (02:20:57):
Anthony Edwards. He just gives zero f's, he really does.
Speaker 2 (02:21:01):
