Speaker 1 (00:02):
Lunchtimers.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
This is the Matt Thomas Show, and welcome to a
Wednesday edition of The Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
It is a snack size edition, as.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
We take you till eleven o'clock and then we've got
Astros Baseball from eleven o'clock until eleven forty five with
the on deck show.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
First pitch from Saint Louis is at twelve fifteen.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
It is yet another rubber game of a series involving
your Houston Astros.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
It is nice to be back with you. I have
had huh, five days of utter hell to be brutally
honest with you, Ross. How are you? I haven't remissed
you so much until you well, I'm doing all right.
We might have to name this show to two sick
guys because I'm a little bit under the weather myself.
But we're powering through Matt. We're here for the people
of Houston.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Yeah, we are those of you that listened to show
on Friday and Ross, you were out with a family. O.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Yeah, I didn't catch it. They so like, are used
to are you going to survive that?
Speaker 2 (01:04):
And I really didn't survive it. It was a struggled
to do the four hours. You resurrected, You're a week early.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
What's that? I said, you resurrected, You're a week early?
I don't know it was it was bad.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Uh, and then I just could I got started getting
a fever and couldn't shake it, and did some more,
couldn't shake the fever, got back to Houston, took the test.
Got I have now had COVID. Blah blah blah blah blah.
It's not been great.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
I finally broke the fever yesterday.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
Uh. In the interest of you and I keeping safe,
I'm gonna be out one more day. I'm gonna work
tomorrow from here and then back hopefully in the studio
Friday with you guys.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
Is Uh. The COVID test came maect negative today, which
is good. But that's great. Fight over what's that? I said?
That's great? Sorry?
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Yeah, still finding a little bit of a cough. You
sound like you're in less than one hundred percent. So
that's the last thing I'm gonna do is spread anything
to you. But yeah, we're here today, we're less than
a hundred percent, and frankly, we don't have a lot
of staff around us.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
And I want to thank I don't even.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
Know who did what to help you out during the
course of the last two days because I couldn't stay awake.
I don't know if you know this or not. And
I think most people to do when you get a fever,
especially a high one. I was in one hundred and
twos from most of the last four to five days.
I couldn't stay awake. You had no energy whatsoever. All
you want to do is sleep. So if the Adams
(02:24):
helped you out, if yes, it was a lot of
Chris Gordy.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
Chris Gordy did three hours a day two days, which
we appreciate him for stepping up for the one with that.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
He you know what, He's just locked on team player,
being a team players. Why as a program director of
the year in the Houston area. That's what I'm saying,
Absolutely well deserved.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
And it was a little bit of Adam Clanton, a
little bit of Adam Weser yesterday as well. Yeah, and
you had Hayden wes Nesky on the show yesterday. Yes,
we are good friends. Now. I've interviewed him three times
and like you know, Matt, we haven't gotten jose Al
Tuova in like five years, but we got Haydens three
times in the last four months, so I know we're
getting to be chummy. You guys are like ig bros.
(03:02):
Now pretty much.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
You're in your you have you have a group text now.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
Yeah, we got him at spring training, we got him
on the show yesterday, and we had him at FanFest,
so we're getting to know him very well.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
And he's pitching very well. And you're for a barbecue
on Sunday, which is very nice. It's weird. Yeah, he
invited me to the family reunion. It's in Cyprus.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
He wants to date. He wants you to date his sister.
It's really nice.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
All right, let's just say we got a short show
to day to eleven o'clock, which kind of helps me
get back on the mode of things a little bit here.
I have been trying to watch as much sportous as
possible in between sleeping. But yeah, the Asterisk continue to play.
Is it a Sea Saw season so far?
Speaker 1 (03:44):
Would you say? Yeah? You can call it back and forth,
up and down Seesaw? What pendulum swing? I don't know.
For the last twelve games, they have been alternating win
and lost, and they have not won two in a
row all year long.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
Can I tell you something, And when I say this,
I don't think I'm in the minority on this. And
I've been watching a little a lot of baseball, specially
since I got back to town this weekend, and I
had met and by the way, shout out again to
Adam Wexer filling in from me in the last two Rocket.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
Games because I just I couldn't just couldn't get out
of bed.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
So I'll be ready to go for the first playoff
game with the Rockets on Sunday. We'll get to that
a little bit. But so I watched a lot of
Astros baseball ross. This team's pretty.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
Boring right now.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
I mean they are, isn't a lot to I mean,
Hunter Brown throwing six innings of shutout is never a
bad thing, but it's these things. They're going less than
two and a half hours most nights, but they're in
a whole lot of action.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
There are in a lot, a whole lot of drama,
these bad boys. There were some long ones. What was
the the Mariners one was long the seven to six game,
And there was an extras one to what was it
twelve innings or whatever they won that was last week. Yeah, yeah,
but yeah, I don't know, Matt. The Jake Myers fan
Club thought last night was a throw. Oh my god,
you are on cloud nine? Are you not? Well? Well,
(05:03):
we'd like more than just singles. Maybe some doubles and
home runs would help. What do you want? Slugging beggars
can't be choosers here, so we're taking what we can get.
We the Jake Myers fan Club is in a good
spot right now. I think that Christian Walker fan Club
is jealous of the Jake Myers fan Club at this point,
Christian Walker's fan club, Walker fan Club is struggling. Yeah,
it is struggling, all right.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
So we will get into some astros baseball here today.
We will also get into the Rockets. The playoffs are,
said ROSSI.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
As far as we're concerned, yes, yes we know the opponent.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
I was up till I think some of you, not
many of you, but I think some of you, including you,
were up late last night watching, Yes, the Memphis Golden
State game. It looked like second quarter that Memphis had
raised the flag and said we'll go play.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
The nineteen game and be just fine.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
And then they came back, and then John Moran got
hurt and then all of a sudden, desmon Bane and
Jaron Jackson are doing some things. And that was a
back and forth Seesaw game until Steph Curtis had to
make a couple of humongous threes late in the contest,
very entertaining on the edge of your seat. And it's
gonna be the Rockets and the Warriors for the what
(06:18):
fifth time since twenty fifteen in the playoffs. Yeah, And
I don't think I need to tell any of you
that are any sort of Rocket offensive, any history at all,
what the last.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
Four have turned out to be. Oh, we don't have
to talk about it. We also don't have to talk
about who's favored in the series. Well, I think it's
something to bring up because.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
I was looking at the series prices that you put
out earlier, and that's just and when you hear the
term series price, I means you just bet the series.
You don't care how many games it goes, You don't
care the margins of victory. You just pick a team
to win a series four games to three or four
to one, whatever, four zero. Sometimes a five will be
(06:57):
favored over a four, right, Yes, In fact, we've got
one there with I think the Clippers are a favorite
over the.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
Denver Nuggets in that matchup.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
Occasionally you will see a six over three ross. I
don't know if you can. I don't think you can
do it in a shorter period of time, but how
often I'm just metapholgically to asking you, how often have
you ever seen a seven seed a two to one
favorite over a two seed?
Speaker 1 (07:29):
I would say probably not very often. But I will
also say that the big Warriors season turnaround came with
Jimmy Butler getting added to the team and playing his
first game for them February eighth.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
And the fact is they're not the same Golden State
Warrior team that's a seven seed in playoff team.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
They're twenty one.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
I think they're twenty one and seven since he's been
playing for them, something like that's pretty good seven to
fifty basketball. That's not that. And one of the seven
losses granted is to the Rockets, So that's true. Let's
give them credit where credits due. They are not playing
like a seventh seed. They have some warts, and we'll
get to some of that during the course of the
(08:11):
hour today. We'll do a lot of that tomorrow and
Friday will also have you. Mayadoka with us either tomorrow
or Friday. Will also check in what's going on with
Golden State and their thoughts on things.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
But they're they're still really good.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
And it's it's Gary Payton Junior getting baskets, it's Moses
Moody attacking hitting threes. It's Draymond doing what Draymond typically does.
Jimmy Butler is just about automatic in the mid range.
Three point shoting out so much, but the mid range
has been really good. This is going to be a knockdown,
(08:50):
drag out. I mean, if there's any time that you
can't celebrate being a two seed Raws, it might be
twenty twenty five for the Houston Rockets.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
Yeah, I was rooting for the Grizzlies. It would be
the easier matchup certain people whose names Ryan Schmaden Schmidt
and want to take on the Warriors and want to
slay the dragon and all that type of stuff.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
But okay with that, I get it too. Yeah, and
we don't have it no matter who we rooted for.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
Right man, we don't control what happens on the floor
in San Francisco, So it is what it is, right
It is the Rockets taking on the Warriors, and you
mentioned Jimmy Butler and Stephen Curry going off last night.
The good news is there was only one other Warrior
in double digits that night, and it was Quinton Post
off the bench. So if you can maybe try to
(09:35):
limit those couple guys, and you mentioned Brandon Perjimski is
gonna be tough maybe you. I mean, look, you have
a shot, you have home court advantage. I think the
series price that you were talking about Warriors at two
to one is a little bit too long of odds
to me. And the Rockets have been doubted all year long.
They were doubted when they played two straight games against
the Cleveland Cavaliers, won both of those. They've won a
(09:55):
lot of big games against a lot of good teams,
including these same Golden State Warriors, like you mentioned with
Jimmy Butler. Yeah, and I think they're being disrespected and
I hope they take that and take it to heart.
Not that they need extra motivation with coach Youdoka and
the boys, but I think they're they're gonna be looking
to make a statement in this series.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
Yeah, again, that is a two to one favorite. It
shows to me this is Golden State's been there, done that.
Speaker 1 (10:20):
Houston Rockets, excuse me.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
The Houston Rockets are a nice little team with a
lot of nice wins and a young, scrappy team, but
there's no superstar. Half their team is zero playoff experience
and they're gonna about and Jimmy Butler has made this
order team. It's much better than a typical seventh seeded team.
I had all that, and I see the reason why
that the it's a two to one favorite for Golden State.
(10:44):
But you know what, I don't let Vegas aside things
the guys on the floor should. And he made Dooka
is going to probably just use that as Bolton Bore material,
or he may just say f mall and just say
let's just go win and beat the team they've beaten
two times out of five so far this year. We
are with utola o'clock. If you want to chime in
and come in and say hello, we've got an hour.
We've got no guest book, we've got no no scheduled segments.
(11:06):
We're gonna take it all the way to eleven o'clock
and then.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
Get you into Astros Baseball.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
Rossell have that and Brian Bocas if it's going to
join uh, ROSSI in the second segment of Astros on
Deck seven one three two one two five seven ninety
if you want to jump in seven to one three
two one two five seven ninety. The one thing I
will say about this, BEF we get to break ROSSI,
did you see the number of calls that Memphis got
last night in Golden State?
Speaker 1 (11:29):
Yes? I did. I was startled because.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
And I was going to put this out on Twitter
and then I don't need Golden State fan coming after me.
I will just say this as a declarative statement, and
please Ross, trust me when I tell you this. I
have been to twenty nine other NBA arenas. Okay, besides
the Toyota Center calling games, there is no better home
court whistle than in San Francisco, California.
Speaker 1 (11:56):
Lebron will get his calls.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
Uh, you will get a tree Jung will get a call.
In Atlanta, you'll get calls. Actually, trading's bad, probably bad.
Example that though they lost in Orlando, you get ejected.
And yeah, I'm trying to think of who else it
really gets calls. Oh, Luca got calls in Dallas all
the time until he started bitching about it.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
There's a there's the superstars to get their calls.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
There is no other city ross in the NBA that
you and I hate to use the term eight versus five,
but it's in Golden State more than any other twenty
to NBA arenas.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
It just is. Yeah, I mean last night. But also
they're fans, and when you feel like you're not getting
the calls and your fans, you're not. You're not asking
for fans to have a bunch of perspective on things.
When we're at the game, they're probably half liquored up,
if not three quarters or more, and it's yelling at
the ref. So I wasn't shocked at all, and nor
(12:50):
should anybody be when you're talking about people who are
in the building. They're homers, and they don't think they're
getting goodhistle. They're gonna scream, hey, ref, you suck right.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
And I was legitimately getting mad at Draymond Green trying
to oh my guys when he fouled out.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
Yeah, and when he filed out, Oh, I'm sorry, I
said shrumple last night. Yeah, when he fouled out, he
went he was like screaming at the rough. I can't
remember who it was, and it's like he should have
gotten a technical foul for first troubles.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
See absolutely, and oh, by the way, Zach Edie sucks.
He really sucks. He's I mean the big knock on him.
And one of the reasons why he was like National
Player of the Year and then went back to college
is because people weren't high on him because of how
slow footed he is. And that's proven out to be
true in the NBA. He could rebound because he's seven
feet tall.
Speaker 1 (13:35):
He got like sixteen seventeen rebounds.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
Yeah, he grabs the ball off offensive rebounds and like
no one should ever tell him to do this. He
puts the ball on the floor every single time.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
It's ridiculous. Go up with it, big man, take your chances.
Ah should have been Memphis, all right.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
With I'm Matt. We are here at eleven o'clock right now.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
Great to have you, whether it's at ten twenty one
on the Matt Thomas Show with Ross seven one three
two one two five seven to nine zero is how
you reach the program. We have a midday game today
here on the station Barnell Bloco's gonna take the mound
for the local nine against the Saint Louis Cardinals and Ross.
We grew up watching the Astros and Cardinals play all
(14:27):
the time. I mean, the Cardinals were a team when
I was growing up. It was just you had Ozzie Smith,
and you had uh, you know, you had all the
Jack Clark, and you had all these big hitters and
Kenny Let I mean, and they won year after year
after year, and they would always brack about the fresh
beer there and drawing three million.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
They ain't drawn.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
Flies in Saint Louis. It's kind of depressing. Actually, yeah,
it look kind of embarrassing. I was a little shocked
to see that, especially early under the season.
Speaker 1 (14:55):
I mean, they're eight and nine. They've got one of
the better offenses so far in baseball, pitching doesn't seem terrible.
And nobody's there. I mean, they have like one of
the best hitting teams in baseball and no one's there.
What else you're gonna do in Saint Louis. I don't know,
go up the shaky Arch. There's gambling, there's a lot
of crime, so I mean.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
Yeah, yeah, I guess, yeah, you can go rob a
gambling house. There you go by the way, May I,
may I have one more second here before the phones? Yes,
So I get sick late last week, I have to
miss the two rocket games. I'm pissed off about that,
but you know it is what it is. My daughter
and her girlfriends going into the city to take some
pictures and go of a nice dinner. The girl girlfriend's
(15:35):
senior get out at night or whatever. She's a junior,
but she's got her two best friends or seniors. They
go to elean Or Tinsley Park, Ross to take some pictures.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
Okay, love Eleanor Tinsley Park. They're they're twenty minutes. Okay.
Speaker 2 (15:47):
They come back and somebody broke into my wife's car,
smashed the back of the window, stole all three of
their overnight bags. They were going down to Galveson after that,
and then one of the bags was my daughter one
of my daughter's best friends wallet. It had money and
(16:08):
gift cards and you know what do the little little
tag things you can identify with your hair tags? Yeah,
air tags. So we they spent three hours of their
Saturday night with the police. They did find the bag tag,
the air tag in a neighborhood right adjacent to Elean
Tinsley Park with about ten other bags. Apparently were multiple
(16:32):
cars that were shattered. Wow, and my wife yesterday went
to go get our window fixing our cars.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
It was six hundred dollars in my life, I'm back
on that. So I'm sorry to hear that. Matt. Welcome
to Houston, Texas.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
It's just been a real peachy week around these parts here, if.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
You know what I'm saying. Yeah, honestly, yeah, when you
have bags, it just procedure to me and unfortunate that
it has to be this way when you have bags
in your car in Houston, you gotta like, yeah, you
take it.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
I learned, yeah, but they were gone literally twenty minutes.
Speaker 1 (17:04):
But good things she lended now right and before like
later in life. I don't think she ever wanted to
learn ever.
Speaker 3 (17:10):
But yeah, but you know, you got to think of
the bright side of things right now, you know, So
it could be thirty five.
Speaker 2 (17:14):
Right side was they found the bags. That was That's good?
Was everything where it was recovered. Everything was recovered really okay, yep, yeah, yeah,
But because my daughter just had clothes and she sleeps
with a little teddy bear at night, and that's that's
always in her bag. Her friends had one and the
only bag that had any sort of things missing was
the bag that had the wallet and the air tag
(17:35):
in it. So and that's been lost with all the
credit cards were canceled, blah blah blah blah blah.
Speaker 1 (17:39):
So but it was just a real.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
Down that my daughter and her friends went for a
little overnight getaway down to Galveston. And as I'm getting
home and I need some TLC for my wife, she's
having us that well, our car just got damaged, so
it take my car go down to downtown.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
It was just a long night.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
So I love our city, but man, and the city
goes through this, but it just sucked. It just really
really sucked. And apparently they go to this trash can
there's like seven or eight different bags of and everybody
in the neighborhood that live in the apartment cound of
like scattering.
Speaker 1 (18:11):
The police lights went on. It was just wow, not good,
not good, all right.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
So Astros Baseball at eleven o'clock with the on deck show,
Rockets will play Game one eight thirty, which ross let's
be on it to tell the folks more closer to
like eight forty.
Speaker 1 (18:26):
Five, eight fifty on Sunday night. Yep, we've been through
this before. You mentioned the playoff matchups before even what
happens on the floor. What happened is normally gonna take
place very deep and late into the night. Yep.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
And we'll be there for you. We'll have a game.
I believe Sunday Night will be on KTRH.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
News Radio seven forty kt RH. Yeah, I'll be on
it like one am. People screaming at me. Where is
my coast to coast? So if we win, I'm calling you.
If we look, I'm going to turn the radio off.
Have you seen the opening of spread for the game?
Speaker 2 (18:58):
I have not do im my encourage discouraged, you asked,
I mean, do you you can?
Speaker 1 (19:03):
You want to say the Rockets two point favorites one
and a half. Okay, I was not terrible.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
If there's anybody I trust in motivating, it's Emadoka. I
mean he's probably going well, he doesn't care about Vegas.
But point being is he's like, these guys are looking
forward to playing us that I mean, he's.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
He's gonna have him ready. Yeah, they'll be ready. And
then the motivation doesn't even matter as much as preparation.
I really trust you, Meydoka, and have them prepared as
best as as best as you can prepare against a
team with the greatest shooter on the planet and Jimmy
Butler one of the great physical playoff players who steps
up in big moments, and the reality is be prepared.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
Yeah, And the reality is this, if the Rockets will
lose this series, he will not be because of the officiating.
It'll be because Colton State won four times out of
a possible seven. Now, will they get some calls, especially
in San Francisco, Yes, but last night was a great
example of it. Good officiating cruise will help now. But
(20:04):
it wasn't good for Memphis. They were bad calls. They
just went against Golden State. So yeah, I am yeah,
there were. It was not as completely one sided as
I thought it was.
Speaker 1 (20:16):
Going to be last night.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
Chris and Jersey Village at ten twenty six on seven
Hoey High.
Speaker 1 (20:20):
Chris, Yeah, Hey, Matt.
Speaker 4 (20:23):
First of all, my rule when going into inside the
Loop has always taken my wife's car because it's half
as expensive as mine, so if it does get broken into,
you know, it's a little cheaper. Second, of all, welcome back.
Glad you're feeling better. Sound great?
Speaker 1 (20:40):
Uh we're getting there about but thank you very much.
Speaker 4 (20:44):
Yeah, I guess you don't have a cough button.
Speaker 1 (20:46):
Uh hey listen. Uh that was a joke, man, just joking.
Speaker 4 (20:50):
Hey, you know, I totally agree with you, Matt. I
was having these thoughts the last couple of days. This
Astros team is the most boring baseball team. I mean,
what our biggest personality or is I think Dubond Honestly,
I think he's like the biggest character or the most
fun to watch.
Speaker 1 (21:09):
I don't know, just very boring.
Speaker 4 (21:12):
And on the Rockets, we were talking earlier this year
about picking somebody up before the trade deadline. I just
want to say, I'm glad we have the team we
have and I'm looking forward to this playoff series. I'm
glad they didn't pick up Jimmy. It's all about me Buckets.
I'm glad that we kept the nucleus together. Let's just
see how far they can go with the team we have.
(21:34):
I'm glad they didn't make any changes, so thanks see Chris.
Speaker 2 (21:38):
And by the way, when I say the team is
kind of boring, I don't care if they're boring.
Speaker 1 (21:42):
I just want them to win.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
I want them to build a streak of some sort.
And that's my point is that you know it has
there have not been the dramatic grands. There was a
Grand Slam, so there was that, But I mean, there
has been very few five run innings. There's been very
few amazing five, four or three double plays.
Speaker 1 (22:01):
There has been.
Speaker 2 (22:02):
Three or four while moments. You know, what if this
is what cham have to kind of go through, is
this team is kind of re creating itself.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
Ross, I can live with boring for a while. Yeah.
I mean, there'll be a lot more exciting once they
start hitting better. So yeah, right now they're one of
the worst offenses in baseball and they're hanging in.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
It's a very winnable as we thought it would be
a very winnable.
Speaker 1 (22:28):
Division all season long. All right.
Speaker 2 (22:30):
Ten twenty eight Sports Talk SEVENINI, we take this program
until eleven o'clock.
Speaker 1 (22:34):
Astros on deck in one half hour.
Speaker 2 (22:36):
Ross, if people are not feeling their very best, what
can you do to help them? Ten thirty five Matt
and Ross with you. Sports Talk seven II. We're with
you till eleven o'clock. SA If you want to come
in and say hello, we missed you, at least I did.
When you have a fever ross and you don't get
fevers very often, but I've been sweating them out every
(22:56):
single day. I'm not the prettiest thing in the morning
when I wake up.
Speaker 1 (23:02):
How many cow Bell jokes have you heard? Too many? Too?
Too many?
Speaker 2 (23:11):
I was just curious because we were talking about yesterday
with Chris Gordy.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
So I was, I was up until yesterday. I was.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
I couldn't get under one hundred and one. I was
at one hundred and two for most of the last
three or four days, and so I was mixing uh as,
I like, it's ibuprofen and town all taken five at
a time, three of one and two in the other.
Speaker 1 (23:36):
This is what the doctors told me to take.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
So I took that, and I would go to sleep
and I'd wake up and I was like something, It's
like throwing water on me.
Speaker 1 (23:45):
It was crazy, huh. And I'm like, all right, I'm
over this.
Speaker 2 (23:49):
And then two hours later, three hours later, boom, I
go take my thermometer, but back up to the hundred
and two.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
It aha. I was.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
When it comes to being a sick kid, by the way,
just a complete woss uh.
Speaker 1 (24:02):
Yeah. I think that's true for most of us males.
I mean there's memes it's like woman with a cold
and she just like sees at work and drinking some tea,
and it's like man with a cold and it's like
he's on his deathbed.
Speaker 2 (24:13):
Yeah, I mean, and I look, I try to work
through a lot of it because look, I've got two
very stressful job, fun jobs, but they're stressful and and
I want to make sure I'm there for both when
I can. That's why Friday I was gonna I did
the show. You were gone and I had to do it,
and there was no one else to kind of help
me out. But yeah, but man, it's just the fever
(24:36):
is the crippler. I mean, I can, I can deal
with neck pain or shoulder pain or whatever, but man,
that fever hits you, you just don't want to do anything
but talk. And it's funny because we had Emai a
Doak on the show Friddy Ross, and Emay told member
of the Rockets pr staff she was He said, who
did I do the interview with on Friday? On Matt shown?
She said, well, it was Matt. He didn't sound like him.
(24:58):
I'm like, yeah, I know, so I'm sorry, Matt.
Speaker 1 (25:01):
Yeah, you went to Kansas City. How was I know
you went for some family. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
It was a good city, isn't it. Yeah, it's a
great city. I'd never been.
Speaker 1 (25:08):
Okay, I've went there when I was like twelve years old,
so I didn't really get to see the sights and
sounds as much. But yeah, I was the celebration of
life for my wonderful aunt Alma. May she rest, but
it was it was a good time. I mean I
had Gates Barbecue. If you had Gates, yes, excellent. Oh,
Gates Barbecue was very good. I didn't realize that. I
guess I should have. How deeply rooted a lot of
(25:30):
the jazz scene and black culture and the history there.
They have the Negro League's Baseball Museum as well. I
thought it was wonderful and the weather was perfect. It
was like seventy degrees and sonny every day I was there.
Speaker 2 (25:44):
Yeah, people are nice there, there is, yes, first of all,
amazing food.
Speaker 1 (25:48):
The nicest drivers I've ever seen in my life.
Speaker 2 (25:50):
Really nice people, easy to get around, good downtown scene,
a casino, which.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
Is never a bad thing. Yes, I wasn't able to
make it over.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
The team is certainly an event to go to, great
sports town, and I always thought that they were kind
of low key in for an NBA team. I don't
think I'm going to get it, but huge Chiefs when
the Royals are good, Big Royals Town. So yeah, it's
it's a really nice place to go. And I've been
there multiple times for volleyball and I time you get
(26:20):
up there.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
Yeah, I think there was a volleyball thing going on
when I was there. There was a lot of volleyball
people and tall there's a lot of tall girls hanging out.
Speaker 2 (26:29):
Okay, now I don't want to give away too many companies,
but when you told me about the volleyball convention being
there or whatever tournament, I did ask you if you
sent reconnaissance down there to see it, what.
Speaker 1 (26:43):
The scene was like? Uh huh. I mean I popped
into the hotel bar for a moment and there were
a lot of volleyball moms there. If that's what you're getting.
Speaker 2 (26:51):
At, I know, But I wasn't worried about you. I
was worried about the member of No.
Speaker 1 (26:54):
Nothing, nothing happened. Man, Why are you asking this? You
want to see how he did. I mean, good to
see your back and good Matt.
Speaker 2 (27:00):
It's a catcher release pond up there again in Kansas City,
follyball moms.
Speaker 1 (27:05):
I don't know nothing about that, Matt. I know you done.
Speaker 2 (27:07):
I'm asking about your your our friend of the friends.
Speaker 1 (27:12):
It was. Kansas City was a lovely town, multiple good breweries.
I didn't get to make it to the Jazz Museum,
but I want to go there. They have a money
like a US mintor money museum as well. Yeah, I
need to go back to Kansas City. It was great.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
And some of the bars day open to three or four.
They have like they have like Grandfather in the liquor
license from god knows when the early nineteen hundreds or something.
Some of them can still serve liquor untill very late
in the evening.
Speaker 1 (27:37):
Oh my goodness, that's why it passed for early end
of the morning, I should say.
Speaker 2 (27:41):
All right, So I watched, as you did, a lot
of that Memphis Golden State game. There was a five
count that was called late in the game, and I
had the initial same reaction.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
That you did, of what are we doing here? Why
are we calling a five count?
Speaker 2 (27:55):
In twenty twenty five in a playoff in a playing
game this fleet.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
It's called the Rodney Terry Special. By the way. OOO,
sorry about that, but you've got you got Shaw Miller.
You're happy now.
Speaker 2 (28:06):
I got a stupid question, why does the five count exist?
Speaker 1 (28:11):
Or why is it? It feel like it's kind of short?
Like when they wrote this rule, were people just taking
forever to in mound the ball? No, I think you
just can't get there forever. You can't get there. I
mean there has to be some sort of limit, and
sometimes I guess five just feel a little short. So
I went back just to see.
Speaker 2 (28:28):
I watched it probably five times this morning, just to
see if it was a quick one.
Speaker 1 (28:35):
It was five clearly five seconds. Some people I saw
timed it on Twitter and it was closer to six. Yeah,
I mean it was. There was even a little bit
of a you know, get rid of it, get rid
of it.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
I gotta call it. Yeah, there was. It was a
legit accurate call. And the two minute report is going
to come out tonight and it's gonna or it's going
to verify that other things I may have to verify,
but that the five second count was the correct call. Yes,
it was and I couldn't believe it happened in the NBA.
And you can't do that in high school.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
You can't at this level drop something to get somebody
open for at some point.
Speaker 2 (29:14):
Pray is that of Golden State's defense just remains ridiculously good.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
Well, the interim coach didn't have time to install the
inbounds plays. I guess did you see his hair by
the way, Yeah, what's wrong with it? It's perfectly like
it's layered. It's got a part to it. I mean, yeah,
he's finished. Is that what the finished hair has? Yeah,
that's how the Finns roll, Matt Man, I've had some
Finnish heritage in me. Oh my god. Google said, when
(29:43):
I put in Memphis Grizzlies head coach, it's still his
Taylor Jenkins. Uh uh, come on, Google, How about Denver's
gonna have a new coach too in the playoffs? Crazy?
How about Phoenix firing their coach one year?
Speaker 2 (29:57):
That's a third third straight one year and out?
Speaker 1 (30:01):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (30:01):
No, I think money Metals was there for a few years.
Speaker 1 (30:03):
That's true. I know it's there, but I mean, but
then it was yeah, but then it was Vogel for
one year. Yeah, three coaches in three years, is correct? Yes, yeah,
such is their problems is like see where I'm doing here,
and we're doing just fine the Rockets. The timing was
just right to get im Adoka because he was going
(30:25):
to be very heavily sought after. I'm glad he landed
here absolutely.
Speaker 2 (30:29):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety. If
you want to jump in seven one three two one
two five seven nines or we have one segment left
to go here before we get to Astros Baseball tomorrow.
On the show, Brian mctaggerby with us, I don't know
if we're gonna have e May tomorrow or Friday. I'll
I'll check with him later today we will have a
(30:49):
shut your ball mass up and ain't nobody got time
for that tomorrow. On the show, jall dou gout feelings yesterday?
Speaker 1 (30:57):
Yes we did? Did? Oh? Jonathan chime in and what
was your greatest gut feeling?
Speaker 3 (31:03):
My greatest gun feeling was that the Rockets were gonna
finish number two and then that's that's what happened.
Speaker 1 (31:08):
That's everything else. I couldn't have said that yesterday.
Speaker 3 (31:11):
No I said about the I said your greatest one, Oh, oh,
it was about Ashton Genty getting picked over a door
in the UH in top twelve pick.
Speaker 1 (31:19):
I think, oh, we are your official Ashton Genty station.
You know that, Yes we are.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
Okay, No, no, Matt Matt has been was trashing Ashton
Genty all throughout the last season, trashing is at you
said he was just a guy and said he's not
going to rush for a thousand yards ever in his
NFL career.
Speaker 1 (31:38):
You put your name on it. Can't wait for that one.
Speaker 3 (31:40):
O Lion has a big thing for running backs. People, don't.
They like to forget that?
Speaker 1 (31:44):
All right, he's gonna run for a thousand yards.
Speaker 2 (31:47):
By the way, how about Colorado retiring two jerseys with guy? Yes,
schools retiring people's jersey when they haven't even left school yet.
Speaker 1 (31:54):
Yeah, we talked about this. Travis Hunter won a Heisman.
I get that. Shdara Sanders thirteen and twelve is a
star her. I get that.
Speaker 2 (32:02):
To a lesser extent, Eric Banemy' is like, what what
do I have to do?
Speaker 1 (32:06):
Uh? Cordell Stewart, Cordell Stewart, What I have to do? Names?
Speaker 2 (32:11):
I'm done with the Colorado great football players.
Speaker 1 (32:13):
I'm sure there's Rashaan Saloon. Well, yeah, oh, there's a
lot of beef right now in Buffalo with the Buffaloes.
I should say.
Speaker 2 (32:21):
Seven one three two one two five seven and you
come in and join us. The final segment here, there's
so Matt Thomas Show with Ross Rossy. We're gonna give
away a parent tickets to see Nelly jaw Rule?
Speaker 1 (32:31):
Is that right? And Eve? Is that? Am I right?
Speaker 2 (32:35):
To you?
Speaker 1 (32:37):
Live at the word jaw Rule? Matt? Come on, you
know jo Rule Jah Rule and Eve Steve Hot. I
don't know what the state of Eve is right now,
but she was always back attractive. She had like, uh,
it was like tiger paws or something, tattoos in her
(33:02):
chestnil area, chestel area. I've never heard of it. Quiet
that way you mean breastacles.
Speaker 2 (33:11):
You could say that if you like pair of tickets
to see Nellie, jar Rule and Eve live at the
Where the Party at Tour September the fourth at the
Woodlands Pavilion.
Speaker 1 (33:20):
We want to give away a pair of tickets.
Speaker 2 (33:22):
They're on sale now at ticketmaster dot com. But we
want to give away a.
Speaker 1 (33:25):
Pair to you. All you gotta do is go to
the iHeartRadio app. This is ridiculously easy.
Speaker 2 (33:32):
Go to the iHeartRadio app and make Sports Talk seven
nut of your number one pre set.
Speaker 1 (33:37):
That's it, nothing more.
Speaker 2 (33:40):
And then when you need to screenshot it, right, yeah, uh,
screenshot it to one of us, maybe at Sports MT,
at Sports RB somebody.
Speaker 1 (33:48):
Yes, Sports MT at Sports seven MT and Sports seven
ninety dot com works.
Speaker 2 (33:53):
Okay, email, tweet. I don't care how you do it,
but let me give it to you again. This is
a very simple rule. If you want to see Nelly,
jar Rule and Eve at the where the party ads
to the fourth Woodland's pavilion, go to Sports Talk go
to the iHeartRadio app, which all of you have because
you're smart people, and make Sports Talk seven out of
your number one precept. Screenshot it for me, email it
to me or send it be on Twitter, and we'll
(34:16):
be register and we're gonna wear a pair tickets with.
Speaker 1 (34:17):
That event coming up huge and I might join you.
You never know. You're gonna go to where the party
at tour? I mean I could. I mean I'm trying
to diversify. Love it Nell, You've got the hits. Matt.
What day of the week is that on? Yeah, I
don't know. September football. I probably can't go, but other
than that, I'll be willing to go.
Speaker 2 (34:36):
H September fourth is a Thursday, so you're good. Well,
they usually try to stick the Cougars on Thursday, like
ESPN U, so you might have too.
Speaker 1 (34:45):
You could be working, who knows.
Speaker 2 (34:47):
I think we do start on a weekend a week
and I have to think this year SFA I think
is the first game?
Speaker 1 (34:52):
Well huge, we don't just around. Oh are you you
and JK gonna be beefing SFA versus the kooks? No,
We're gonna have a serious bet. That's what. What's what
is this? Cross country? What do you think I'm talking about? Football? Guys?
Look all right, football coach? What you like on wrong?
(35:15):
Well be double? But yeah, no, that game is on
August twenty eighth, the Blood Feud at T D E
c U Stadium. They're calling it the blood Feud. No,
I'm just kidding.
Speaker 2 (35:29):
What are what are you looking for transfusions.
Speaker 1 (35:31):
When you get to the game.
Speaker 2 (35:35):
August twenty fifth? Yeah, or our crime is down by then,
not likely, administration.
Speaker 1 (35:43):
Not likely. That's fine.
Speaker 2 (35:46):
I mean you can make fun of it until you
ever fix it.
Speaker 1 (35:49):
That is a twenty eight and that is a Thursday.
Speaker 2 (35:51):
By the way, Oh, I wish you weren't right sometime,
but unfortunately you are, by the.
Speaker 1 (36:04):
Way, if you mean.
Speaker 2 (36:05):
And we talked about this very briefly on Friday when
you were gone. The kid that's the Tennessee quarterbacks now
looking for a place to play, Nico Yami Lev Nico
not gonna play here anymore. So he was getting two
point four to play at Tennessee.
Speaker 1 (36:21):
He wanted four.
Speaker 2 (36:24):
Tennessee told him to shut this mess up, and now
they're saying he might get a.
Speaker 1 (36:31):
Milli after all.
Speaker 2 (36:32):
Yeah, isn't it hilarious like this, this is just wild
where we are. He's asking for a salary raise, he quits, well,
Tennessee tells him to shut their mob mess up. And
now the reports are like everyone's are waiting for the
sale price.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
Everyone's waiting for him on discount. They're like, well, as
soon as he will lower his terms to one million dollars,
he may end up at another college. This is this
is great, This is hilarious. It is And.
Speaker 2 (36:57):
Everybody's trying to play the blame game on this, blaming
the dad, blaming the kid, blaming the school, blaming the
NC double A well, right, let's let's let's regulate it.
Let's figure out a way to just say you can't
do this and binding contract. I don't know, forget about
the amateur aspect of it.
Speaker 1 (37:16):
But if you if I's gonna put their hands up
in the air, we're gonna see.
Speaker 2 (37:20):
More of this and it's gonna be a risk that
these athletes are gonna take, just like professional athletes take.
Speaker 1 (37:25):
As a risk.
Speaker 2 (37:26):
Sometimes you you take a chance on yourself and you
win or you lose.
Speaker 1 (37:30):
And it sounds like hammanamahamma is gonna lose, Nico. I see.
Speaker 2 (37:39):
I applaud you for trying to imagine if I was
trying to call the play.
Speaker 1 (37:42):
Play for that. You get it down. You're if you're
a true professional man. That is true, that's true. Ross.
Speaker 2 (37:48):
I'm gonna let you take it to the top of
the hour where we have astros on deck with.
Speaker 1 (37:52):
Brian Bogasva Man, you're putting in a hard week, Matt.
We've worked one hour this week, and.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
I will talk to you for a full four hours
tomorrow and then for sure reunite and.
Speaker 1 (38:01):
Will feel so good in studio on Friday. Okay, you
can don't call for snees on me, and I'll try
it not to coffer knees on you. Well, awesome time.
Speaker 2 (38:09):
I'm not coming back until unless you're feeling a hundred
and me hundred.
Speaker 1 (38:11):
So can I tell you? Can I tell you a secret?
And I'm really kind of embarrassed. Please. I was.
Speaker 2 (38:17):
I was working on my pregame script before the show,
and I was in one of these little side studios.
I sneezed accidentally all over the keyboard. I had to
go get a Clorox wipe. I know, Johnathan, I know
you're making a face. I'm embarrassed. I'm not happy about it.
It doesn't feel good. I had to like, oh god,
I get it. Luckily, we have Clorox wipes up here
because we wipe up. We have a lot of shared space,
(38:38):
so I wiping.
Speaker 1 (38:39):
That bad boy down. Man, it was so bad.
Speaker 2 (38:42):
All right, we got a full show tomorrow'ing a good
time tomorrow. Thanks, Okay, So everybody Astros Baseball next,
