Speaker 1 (00:02):
Lunchtimers. This is the Matt Thomas Show. I have PTSD
for the Warriors.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
I told you all that a month ago, and I
want to change in my viewpoint of things. Yeah, but
PTSD is post traumatic stress disorder.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
I'm current. We're currently being traumatized Warriors. Will this ever end?
Can Steph Curry please stop torturing us. I'm sitting there
in the arena. He's got it like people draked all
over him, falling away to his right, throwing up prayers,
and they you know what the worst part is, Matt,

(00:39):
They swish. They don't even hit the rim yet. It
doesn't say is at the front iron, is it the backboard?
It just goes right through like it was organized, get
right through, like a like an arrow through your heart.
It hurts and I'm over it and I'm sick of it.
And how many guys in NBA history in rhythm shoot

(01:00):
thirty five footers and it's just nothing. That's what he does.
The greatest shooter ever walked the planet.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
He just is.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
The rockets that actually did a really good job on him.
You look at the box score, you wouldn't think so.
But they played pretty good defense well. C first quarter
he couldn't buy a shot outside the ark, and then
he decided in the second quarter, I'm gonna go in
there and just get everything in the paint. I think
he had made three or four consecutive and then third
quarter just went off.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
And yeah, people think he's just a shooter. Aren't paying attention.
He can he can get to the basket. You know,
the little underhand, underhand flip that he does. He it's
high off the back, it's got English, it's got I.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
Mean, now he'll put up some goofy ones and he'll
turn the ball over like he did last night with four,
but I mean thirty one points after scoring just three
in the last time these two teams met. Now, of
course that was a regular season, but that's by by
that is long in the very view mirror. What we're
staring at right now is the Golden State Warriors in
a Rocket debut playoff wise for a bunch of different

(02:00):
folks and including everybody at least wearing rocket gear for
the first time. Fred van vliet INA's first playoff game,
Dylan Brooks in his first Rocket playoff game, and then
he had a men out beat Jalen tari Uh Jabbari
in their first game.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
I mean, honestly was horrible.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
Yeah yeah, Fred was terrible, terrible, And and I'm a
huge Fred van Vliek guy off and on the court.
I defend him on air, I defend him on Twitter.
And he went, it was just dead. It was bad
four of nineteen. And here's the problem. I listened to
you on the rocket drop. I figured out the one. Yeah, uh,

(02:41):
you got a couple of calls. They there were very
few contested miss shots, boys and girls. There were a
lot of in stride, open looks, good passes. Fred had
a couple on a break top of the key, three missed,
long rebound, goes right back to him, shoots it up again.
I mean, you have to knock down open shots in

(03:02):
the association, no matter who you are. Yes, if you don't,
you can play. You can be the best offensive rebounding
team in the NBA, which the Rockets have been.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
Yes, they have. And I'll tell you what.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Draymond Green, and you know I'm not a fan of his,
but boy, he had a pretty poignant comment last night.
He said, the best offensive Rockets has last night was
the offensive rebound.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
That is correct.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
Twenty two offensive rebounds and they still lost by ten
because you went six of twenty nine from three. That's
twenty one percent for those of you playing at home. Yeah,
you cannot do that. Also, you can't miss nine free throws.
But unfortunately that's who the Rockets are. The Rockets have been.
I mean there, I know there's been about seventy four

(03:44):
percent all year long. They've really probably said dead in
turn is probably been worse than that. They're dead last
and free throws twenty first and three point percentage. So
what has been a problem for them all year long
was a problem for them in game one.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
Couldn't make a three, missed a bunch of free throws,
you lost the Yeah, it's frustrating.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
And Jalen tried the outside didn't work, tried the inside
didn't work. The angles he was taking on those layups,
which he usually is a pretty good finisher, he couldn't
get to. He also was didn't get a lot of
calls in a little block but you know, again against
those trees. But that's just what the NBA playoffs about.
I didn't think officiating had anything to do with anything
last night except.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
Just be there.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
No, there's a couple of bad calls on the Pajemski
travel and the was it off Draymond instead of Steven
Adams on the sideline, But there was I mean, not
a non factor. No Steph Curry got fouled a bunch
of times when he shouldn't have. There were some other
questionable calls on the other side. So in the Rockets
second quarter, and they just couldn't hold onto the basketball,
turned them all over seventeen times. There was like a

(04:46):
stretch and about three minutes they turned it over five times,
I mean, and Golden State, to its credit, turned those
into points.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
They scored twenty five.

Speaker 4 (04:55):
Bad.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
I mean, let's go glass half full if you want
to for a second, if you don't mind as bad
the Rocket shot and I mean wolful from three, wolful
from the free throw line, wolful from the free and
in a hard time holding out of the basketball, especially
in the first half.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
It got to a one possession game in the fourth quarter.
It just did.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
And I don't want to say clean things up, but
it just shows you that it's a lot closer a
series that maybe you want to think it can be,
especially after what you saw last night, but it could
be because Curry was excellent. Jimmy Butler got to the
mid range like he normally does. But there was nobody
else on Golden State that really scared me. But Jemski

(05:33):
was human yesterday. Draymond Green doesn't shoot a whole lot.
Gary Payton was okay. I mean they only shot thirty
eight percent from three. That's that's not great for them.
They also turned the ball over fourteen times. So it
came down to not to oversimplify things. It came down
to shots that got a fall.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
They just do.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
And if you just you, if you're starting backcourt goes
seven for thirty four and two of seventeen from three,
you're not going to win.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
Any basketball games.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
I don't care if it's the Golden Stick Orders in
the playoffs or Charlotte Hornets in a preseason game.

Speaker 1 (06:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
The good thing is the things that went well for
the Rockets are repeatable. Alprinchingoon there's nobody that can guard
him down low. For the Golden State Warriors. He had
twenty six points. He had eight of their first thirteen.
He had a really good game. Steven Adams crashing the boards.
You can crash the boards on this Golden State Warriors team.
If you make a point to do so, which he made,
Docin does so those things you can do again.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
It's not like they just shot out of their heads.
It was the exact opposite.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
And like you said, it was it was a three
point game at one point in the fourth quarter. You
got down as much as twenty three. I think, yeah, yeah,
and it was. It was a three point game in
the fourth. The second quarter did him in and you
spent basically the entire second half climbing that hill to
get back to close to where you were. And all
you needed was a key three or a key jump shot,

(06:57):
or a finish or an and one. A men Thompson
I thought struggled last night in terms of just looking comfortable.
He looked like he had He looked like he was
losing his playoff Forage Dinerney on the floor last night.
Uh yeah, I think Jabbari I thought had a better
second half than he had his first half. He turned
the ball over a lot in the first half, and

(07:17):
it's it's been somewhat of an offensive struggle for him.
And when he's not being found on basket cuts, which
he was a couple of times, to pass it and
get there and he was there for a couple of
cuts and he wasn't found.

Speaker 4 (07:28):
He can't.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
He's not a great creator of his own offense, especially
when the other team's backing way off of him. Which
now that teams all have a scouting report on him,
and now you're into the playoffs, nobody's getting up on
him and Thompson at three point line, it's gonna be rare.
So he's got to hit the elbows and that's what
those Apple jumpers were not falling for. He's got to
hit those fadeaways. And I mean, those are tough shots.
I mean, it just is what it is. And if
those aren't falling and he's not getting to the basket,

(07:49):
he's not going to score because it's not like he's
gonna light it up from three. He's just not And
I will say this, and I brought this up on
the broadcast last night. This let these scores as ninety
five eighty five will not be abnormal. Will We'll see
low scoring games throughout the series. Before the five games
the winning team in the regular season and the four
of the five matchups, the highest points total one hundred
and six, which is in today's NBA world, it's very

(08:11):
very low.

Speaker 1 (08:12):
All right.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
On the radio program today, we will have your opportunity
to chime in on all things about the Rockets playoff
game last night. If you want to get in on
the Astros set back to the San Diego Padres. I
didn't win the series two games out of three, and
we actually had a two game winning trick for the
first time that year. That was kind of nice. We'll
get to that. We've got NFL Draft coming up player
this week. We have what I thought people said last time,

(08:34):
I didn't see any of it, was a very disappointing WrestleMania,
So we'll get into We'll get into Ross.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
I wrote a thousand words on it, and I'm gonna
be published in a thousand words. My gosh, I can't
remember a lost time I wrote a thousand words. I
don't think I wrote a thousand words in college.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
And then we also have what else NBA playoffs of
off the weekend baseball. We have a UCLA has got
the quarterback of their dreams now if they went got
to the portal, Yes, got it. I think I don't
even pronounce his name Bright and I probably should be.
We'll be talking about him over the course of the year.
But the form that sounds good former Tennessee quarterback Now

(09:12):
UCLA will get to that as well, And we have
to tell the truth today At eleven thirty plus, Pope
Francis Today's edition of Believe or Not he passed away
for real. Yeah, you must literally just woke up.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
I did literally just wake up. I was on air
until after midnight. I'm just saying it happened really random.
So don't for that, Okay, thank you. I don't get random,
right that. I didn't know I'd even hear that. He
was like middle of night. No, oh yeah, I'm in
only night. Yeah, yeah, okay. Was he on his death bed?

Speaker 2 (09:36):
Yeah, he had been fighting I want to say, pneumonia
for quite some time, respiratory issues.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
Okay, So may he rest well of course? Yeah, I
mean yeah, I was about everybody that passed away. Okay.
So he was big into Legos. By the way, it's
gonna be unbelieve it or not. That is a complete
one percent lie. Name a pope loved Legos. I'm gonna
go John Paul this second was a big fan of
Legos back in the day.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
Seven one three, two, one two, five seven nintie seven
one three, two one two five seven ninety. Those are
the phone numbers if you want to chime in today
all things about the Rockets lost the Padres Astros series
on the weekend, and you it's seven one three two
one two five seven NINTI in tremendous spirits, especially the
first four minutes.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
That was fun. Uh.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
There were a lot of Curry jerseys there, but it
didn't feel like they drowned out the those that were
pro Rockets.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
Yes, it's always early on.

Speaker 2 (10:33):
There was a lot of Warriors fans, but you know,
the visiting team fans always get there earlier.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
That's just how it is, right, they want to see
their guy yea, and Rockets fans get there late. That's
just how it is. H.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
So, yeah, I'm with you, I thought, uh, especially relative
to earlier in the season. There was some Warriors fans,
but it was minimal and they weren't as loud as
they have been in previous times in that building.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
And the crowd was great. The energy was good. I mean,
the air kind of.

Speaker 2 (10:56):
Came out of the building when the Warriors went on
that twenty four to seven run between the first and second.
But that's that can happen anywhere, for sure, good sports,
not for Houston. I mean thirty one thousand of the
ballpark full reena at the at the Titus Center, last
fifty thousand people. Well, I didn't win a game though
nobody won. Nobody won.

Speaker 1 (11:13):
That's fine. Could have been better, could have been better.

Speaker 2 (11:17):
So it was least that they were both on the
same page. Anemic offenses everywhere. Eighty five points for the Rockets,
two runs for the Astros. But I you know, I'm
just kind of getting used to two runs for the Astros,
although it was a better offensive weekend Friday, good Saturday.

Speaker 1 (11:32):
Slightly You boy, Taylor Scott give it up the home
run as a game winner.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
H Yeah, he's not my boy, he didn't he Well,
apparently he's a front of the show.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
Apparently he hates me. Oh that's true.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
Actually, well, he was a big part of the game
on Saturday when he held it down for six outs
and was able to let the Astros stay in the
game and get the victory late there.

Speaker 1 (11:54):
But I didn't know he gave it the home run yesterday.

Speaker 2 (11:56):
I had the game on when I was in the arena,
but I wasn't patting close attention.

Speaker 1 (12:00):
Somebody went two.

Speaker 2 (12:01):
For four with a double in a single yesterday, third
multi hit game in his last five, hitting four forty four,
eight for eighteen with two runs, two doubles, and two
RBIs in net Span. Somebody had his sixth multi hit
game of the season, and during the series against the Piders,
he would five for ten. That person is Would that
be Rake Myers? That's Rake Myers? Feeling pretty good? Fan

(12:23):
club is up, folks, we open. We welcome you all
with open arms to the Jake Myers fan clubs. Act
know the answer to this go ahead, but I don't
have the exact number. Who's slugging more, Christian Walker or
Jake Myers. Oh, it's got to be well slugging. Jake
Myers only has like three doubles. I think, okay, maybe
I should say that. Ops, definitely, it's not even going
to be close on that one. Yeah, we Jake Myers

(12:45):
because he's drawn a couple of walks too, But slugging
is probably still even Jake Myers, but he didn't have
any home runs and Walker has a.

Speaker 1 (12:53):
Couple, So.

Speaker 2 (12:56):
I mean they're kind of just a good old fashioned
five on our baseball team right now. Yeah, at least
they won in a row for one, and thank you
to the Dodgers for knocking off the Rangers. Two out
of three could have been very easily as sweep for
the Dodgers and they get to walk off with a
Doulas Garcia. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
So look, American League West is mid mhm. It's basically
the AMC South of baseball. It's there for the taking. Yeah. So,
I mean you wake up in June like you did
last year, It's fine. I'm not.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
I'm under no panic. Frankly, my my my brain is
focused primarily on basketball. Yeah, I'll be in Baseball Mo
tomorrow doing the Astros pre and posts, but you'll be
doing it tonight. Wonderful, But yeah, I'll really start to
live and die on every move they make. But it
was it was enjoyable watching the games on Friday, to
come back on Saturday, and then when you know it

(13:45):
was closed yesterday. Robert was good. Luisaur Eyes got hurt. Well,
he really did bad, but apparently he's okay.

Speaker 1 (13:55):
Yeah, thankfully.

Speaker 2 (13:56):
I mean, when you have to bring a stretcher on
and delay the game as long as they did yesterday,
that was really nuts.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
And then they didn't even want to.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
Yeah, the cart they didn't even drive it because they
wanted to make sure they didn't jostle him around. Yeah,
and then they were so they were pushing it. That
was when it was like, uh, is he okay? I
thought it was a problem when they went with a
rickshaw or like with a rickshaw, Yeah, rickshaw. I thought
when the priest came out and was giving last rites,
I thought that was a bad sign.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
Yeah, the beads were out. I was like, this is
a rosary. He started doing a rosary. Let's talk to
Jenny on line two of ten twenty four. It's nice
start with the lady here on the show. Hi, Jenny, Yeah,
as my name is Jimmy. Oh Jimmy, Oh yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
The hold hold Jonathan John Jonathan John No, no, no, no, I.

Speaker 1 (14:45):
Can explain this, I guess.

Speaker 3 (14:47):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (14:47):
I can't wait to hear this. I asked, because I
didn't hear my prays right. And I was like that, Jenny,
and I didn't. I didn't pronounciate my own words whenever
he said, and it sounded the same. I said, okay,
and I just go down that and know what you know,
funny does sound like how many men in your life.
Do you know by the name of Jenny, I'm gonna
go zero. You know, maybe it was a nickname.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
I don't know. I don't know. Oh, okay, so you
know what.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
Guess what, Jill, You're on the and I just kidd
Jimmy what you got today?

Speaker 6 (15:15):
Man?

Speaker 1 (15:15):
I listened to your takes.

Speaker 7 (15:17):
Man, real good. I'm telling you, I'm feeling I'm feeling
good about the Rockets. Reason being, uh Jalen, Uh you
had Aimon, you know, Jabbari. All these guys first game,
first time in the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
Think they'll come back.

Speaker 7 (15:32):
I cannot see Fred being that bad again. Ever, I
think he'll be good. But you know, I'm just curious
to know. You know, Holiday's been thirty nine point eight
percent on the three pointers this year. I would have
loved to see him in there, possibly in place of
Uh when when he had Jay on the push, but
Holiday in there, put.

Speaker 1 (15:51):
Him in there in place with Man. Let's see if
we can get a.

Speaker 7 (15:53):
Few more shots, a few more three pointers going in
for us. But all in all, guys came back, we
were in and in the fourth quarter. I think we'll
be finding this series. And I'd love to see some
Tait in there as well.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
Oh Tat's hurt, so that won't be happening for a while.
Oh okay, I didn't know.

Speaker 3 (16:09):
I didn't know that.

Speaker 1 (16:09):
I didn't know it.

Speaker 7 (16:10):
I really do think the way we were rebounding that ball, man,
I think we can impose our wheel on these guys.

Speaker 1 (16:17):
You know, Steph is who he is.

Speaker 3 (16:20):
I think the jitters are gone now.

Speaker 7 (16:23):
I think the Rockets will be durned fine man in
this playoff series. I sure hope so, because I'll be
at the ball game on win today.

Speaker 2 (16:30):
All right, thank you, Jimmy. Tell Jenny we sent our best.
We appreciate the phone call, all right. First of all,
playoff rotations tighten up doesn't mean that you can't go
to a ninth or tenth guy if you need to,
especially if someone is hurt or someone is really struggling
or foul trouble. But generally speaking, your playoff rotations are
eight or nine guys. I know on Golden statement with

(16:50):
ten yesterday, but the last two guys just were minimal.
I don't really see the Rockets going Aaron Holiday, say,
was our bacon?

Speaker 1 (17:01):
Now?

Speaker 2 (17:02):
If Jalen struggles out of the get go again. Remember
Jalen has had really rough go he's had. I think
they've played now six times this year. He's had one
good game against Golden stated of the six. You need
some perimeter work. I al, somebody's gonna call, but I'm
sure we'll call for it, whether or not. Cam witmogans
to the mix as well. I got one of those
last night, same kind of thing. I would it would

(17:25):
have to be were the guys slumped as bad as
they did, like in the second quarter last night, in
order for he made to kind of shift up of
what he thinks is their hiss most important guys. Yeah,
I think a couple of things. First of all, I
don't think we're gonna see Kim Witmore at all. Aaron Holliday.
Maybe is a possibility, but coach you Dooka clearly has
shown he doesn't trust Cam Whitmore to do the right things,

(17:46):
to not just play for himself and to rather than
the team.

Speaker 1 (17:50):
So I don't think we're seeing Cam Whitmore.

Speaker 2 (17:52):
Aaron Holliday, I honestly would be open to because when
they went on that bad run where they only scored
seven points over however many minutes, it was the guys
on the floor.

Speaker 1 (18:01):
There's just no one that was off. You go to
that big lineup and it's fun. But when it's Steven
Adams and Shinoon and Jabbarsmith Junior and the paint is
getting mucked up, you need somebody. You need some shooting
out there. And I mean.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
Thompson was on the floor as well, So you're talking
about three guys on the floor who are non shooters.
So if you want to stretch in space a little
bit with Aaron Holliday, who is not a lockdown defender,
but it can at least you put him in there
for five minutes a half or something like that and
get him to make two three threes. I don't think
that's the worst thing in the world, because they are
definitely lacking scoring punch off the bench. Yeah, I would

(18:33):
agree with you that the bench does not have a
perimeter guy. Easan and Smith are not known as perimeter guys.
They combined well, Tario went oh for four. Tari's gonna
do his most of his damage like you did a
couple times yesterday with the steels mid court. His aggressives
on the defensive end that turns into points on the
offensive side. You've got to make those open corner threes.
He got a couple of them, and well he went
over four. Yeah, And I think if you're Golden State,

(18:54):
you're gonna continue to live and die by that. You'll
you'll allow. Frankly, if I'm Golden State, I have zoned
the Rockets to in game two, I just would say,
you know what, let's see this three point shot of yours.
Uh yeah, I mean I think that would just keep.
And that's where maybe Iron Holliday could come in a
little bit again.

Speaker 1 (19:08):
Uh I just to me.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
In small doses, Aaron could certainly help out, especially if
your back court has struggled as badly as it did.
From three yesterday, ten twenty nine. It is the Matt

Ten on Sports Talk seven NINETI it is a group
chat Monday. If you're new to the show, you're like,
what the Hell's a group chat Monday? What what's on
your group chat? I'm just gonna look at mine and
I can I have to protect those names.

Speaker 1 (22:00):
A Hey, music in the background or is that just
sitting me? Okay? I have one group chat.

Speaker 3 (22:07):
Well that was a big cough.

Speaker 1 (22:08):
I'm sorry.

Speaker 2 (22:10):
I have one group chat about a person on Twitter
who is bemoaning officials mm hm. Officials to me had
zero impact on the.

Speaker 1 (22:21):
Game last night. That's not why the Rockets lost this
game to me.

Speaker 2 (22:24):
Yeah, and maybe he was painted a different picture on
the TV broadcast, Matt because we were in the arena.

Speaker 1 (22:28):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (22:29):
Somebody can let us know if they just thought that
the officials were jobbing the Rockets. There were some misscalls,
but I thought for the most part it was missed
both ways. Rockets were allowed to be extremely.

Speaker 1 (22:39):
Physical with the Golden State Warriors or fowls were called
on Golden saything were against us.

Speaker 2 (22:42):
They were mugging Steph Curry a lot of times that
they quite frankly on screens. They were clutching, holding and
grabbing and getting away with a lot. I thought there
was a time or two where Steph Curry wasn't allowed
a place to land and there was no foul called.
I thought he was slapped on the wrist on some
shots and no fowls were called, and some calls were missed.
The Rocket's way, for sure, but I didn't think this

(23:03):
was Oh my god, the rests are giving the Rockets
a zero chance.

Speaker 1 (23:06):
They went six of twenty nine from three. That's why
they lost.

Speaker 2 (23:10):
Yeah, I mean, it's sometimes it just comes down to elementary.
My dear Britt, wasn't my dear Betsy, no Watts and
deer Watson. Yeah, that's that's maybe that's in man, that's
the metrosexual version of that elementary My dear Watson.

Speaker 1 (23:24):
It's you know, you hit shots, it's just it comes
out of a ma or miss lead. Yeah, especially in
the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (23:30):
Really, you don't get half points for hitting the back
of the board in the backboard, you don't get it.
You don't get a cause a credit. You should got
a group three going about one of a friend of
mine's boss being completely tone deaf. All right, so I
hate to hear about that friend. I have a tweet

(23:52):
sent to me of a late night TV show and
I can't read that one. It's n but I can't see.
This is this group thing I can't do because it's
really rude. In my group chats, I would say pound
for powder the rudists in America. Okay, Like, can you
how many sweet group chats are you in?

Speaker 1 (24:11):
Sweet? Like nice ones? My family group chats? You should do.

Speaker 2 (24:14):
We we did a happy we should start one. We
should start a group chat where you can only say
nice things.

Speaker 1 (24:19):
I don't want any part of that. You need some
positivity in your life, Matt you're too petty, too much
of a hater. I don't know. Can we get you
a little sunshine? I'm worried about you. I don't know.
I found first of all, I can't even get you
to go on vacation. I know. I just I live
for these group chats because I want to see if

(24:40):
people have as much you know what in vinegar as
I do.

Speaker 2 (24:42):
And the answer is the worst though. Oh there's no
there's no question about you in one another. Yeah, let's see. Oh,
there's a lot of there's a Fred van Vliet hate run.
He is not doing so hot on Rockets Twitter. Neither
is the alprin Shingouniacs versus the Jalen Greenies them.

Speaker 1 (25:06):
They're in a full on war right now on Rockets Twitter.

Speaker 2 (25:09):
At love Puddles's in our group chat, we went through
players from our high school B team that would have
been better than Fred Harden. Oh God, that's terrible. Oh
they're calling Fred van Vliet Fred Harden. I guess that's terrible.
I mean two for thirteen is kind of a James
Harden line.

Speaker 1 (25:23):
That's enough. How's it's happened?

Speaker 2 (25:26):
Yels comes saying says one of eleven in that twenty
seventeen horrible game against the Spurs.

Speaker 1 (25:30):
A lot of puddles coming through todays.

Speaker 12 (25:32):
Is.

Speaker 2 (25:32):
When I saw the smoke coming out of the chimney
in Italy yesterday, I knew the reason injury was bad
m What a great cross reference from what's happening at
the Vatican to what's happening at dyke In Park.

Speaker 1 (25:46):
And Pope Francis all right, not forgot.

Speaker 2 (25:49):
If you're willing to let us know what's in your
group chat, we would like to hear it, because again
you probably have to protect the names of the of
those that are in the group chat, as I've had
to do. It's a sense of schoma. I'm just saying
it was. It was just a tough night for anybody
that was looking forward to getting I mean people in
the arena, people wore the T shirts and that the
arena was had a nice buzz to it, and then

(26:11):
first five minutes were really fun and then just could
not hold out of the basketball in the second quarter.
That second quarter they got outscored twenty nine to thirteen. Yeah,
but a lot of those turnoffs were it was. I mean,
it wasn't because like the Warriors were doing these playing
great defense and stuff like that. It was just because
the offense was too disorganized. They were too They're just
lacking in direction and they weren't being aggressive. Everybody's just

(26:36):
kind of standing around and then they would just go
kind of go to the basket and there'd be three
people that are like, oh.

Speaker 1 (26:40):
Here, you take the ball. It was just it was
bad offense.

Speaker 2 (26:44):
Well, I'm going to choose because my glasses half full,
especially when it comes to that basketball team that I
love to call, I'm going to choose. That is to men,
Thompson is going to grow up quite a bit from
last night to what he'll play in his second playoff game.
I'll say the same thing about Jalen Green. Yeah yeah, oh,
Jailer Green definitely has to be better Aman Thompson. I
don't know what's going to be there for him offensively.

(27:05):
He needs to be found on some of more of
those basket cuts. And that's just I mean, that's basketball.
It is what it is. And I would say, honestly,
Ross be more physical with Curry, continue the double team,
force the I mean again, you don't want him to
go to the free throw line because he's a ninety
percent free throw shooter, but at least makes him passing
lens difficult because as awesome as Steph is, he will

(27:28):
turn the ball over like a mother m hm. He
can be as lack of diasical with taking care of
the basketball as anybody else in the NBA. And another
thing Jalen Green has to be better at is he
has to be better at. When they were hunting, they
were hunting Steph Curry. They were finding him on switches
against Jalen Green one on one in space and credit
to Steph Curry, he held his own. He did a
great job defensively. But Jalen Green, you got to get

(27:50):
by Steph Curry. You got to figure it out in
out dribbles, fakes, whatever, and you can't get locked up
by Steph Curry.

Speaker 1 (27:58):
If you're Jalen Green, you just cannot. In this series
is not going to go your way.

Speaker 2 (28:01):
Yeah, you should be able to score against uh, against Steph.

Speaker 1 (28:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (28:05):
Now do you want to go monol model. I don't
think you have to do that, but no, you cannot.

Speaker 1 (28:12):
Uh, you can't.

Speaker 2 (28:14):
You can't hunt the guy in the nuts scroll right,
come on now, especially if you get inside five feet
of him and when he when you put him in
the paint, he's useless. Yeah, but he was doing a
good job on the perimeter at a number of times, So.

Speaker 1 (28:25):
Yeah, get him inside of there.

Speaker 2 (28:27):
And then again, I talked about this on the pregame
show yesterday. I still think you have to figure out somehow,
some way to keep Jimmy Butler outside of about seventeen
feet because inside it's pretty damn good. It's hard because
he's so crafty, he's so good with the I mean,
how many shots did he make when there's people draped
all over him? He's freaking good man, Isn't it crazy?
Jimmy Butler had this terrible stigma attached to him because

(28:49):
he got sideways in Miami, he got syeways in Philadelphia,
got sighways in Chicago, got I mean everywhere he's gone.
He is eventually one on his welcome he goes to
Golden State, and I mean they he could run mayor
of San Francisco the way he's playing right now, because
he's legitimately the second score that Andrew Wiggins couldn't be
for the Golden State Warriors. Yeah, there's a honeymoon period

(29:09):
right now, and then when he's in the playoffs, that's
when he really shines. Twenty five points, seven rebound, six assists,
five steals, Matthew five steals.

Speaker 1 (29:18):
I got news for you, and you're gonna be mad
at me, but it's too bad. Okay, I'm mad at you.
You're tipping man me anyway. Oh, I know what you're
gonna say. Whatever, it's a semantics thing. It is a
semantics thing.

Speaker 2 (29:31):
You have to win Game two, Rossie, I do not
want to go on a plane on Friday. Nobody does
two with two games in that building. Okay, you say
it with me. No, come on, nope, I sort of
got to make you feel.

Speaker 1 (29:48):
No, it won't. It'll make me more nervous. Actually, well
I should be. You should be nervous. Yeah yeah, your
down on one two scheme went at home like that.

Speaker 13 (29:58):
Man.

Speaker 1 (29:58):
You can't shoot six to twenty nine three, so bad.
Game two must win okay, Oh feels good.

Speaker 2 (30:06):
Game two very important for the Rockets, very important, of
the utmost importance. I think I must win is easier
on a T shirt than a game of upmost importance.

Speaker 1 (30:18):
Okay, well, I'm not making t shirts. If you're putting
them up, let me know.

Speaker 2 (30:22):
I'll give you one of mine. I got some extra
T shirts. Yeah, I'm gonna print win for you. Every
game is a must win game. That's what happens if
you ask the players. Yeah, Game one must win game,
they all have that.

Speaker 1 (30:29):
Yeah. Game two, must win game, gotta have it. Game three,
must win game. It's the playoffs. Oh you know, if
you know that, they're gonna be saying in La, the
Minnesota won nothing in that series. Two must win game
for the Lakers.

Speaker 6 (30:41):
I like it.

Speaker 2 (30:42):
I like how you think seven one three two one
two five seven nine seven one three two one two
five seven ninety. Let's talk to Biscuit at ten forty
one here on the on my software. Thank you for much.

Speaker 1 (31:00):
I appreciate you. Hello, Biscuit, you're on seven in good morning.

Speaker 14 (31:04):
More thing my brothers a Ross Matt. One of the
things that kind of goes under the radar with the Rockets,
And I don't know, Ross, you agree with me. They're
not one of the better ball handling teams. And what's
happening is people are saying, well, they don't have finishers. Yeah,

(31:24):
but the problem is they're getting into their place too
late in the shot clock, and so you only have
one or two things you can do because it's you know,
nine ten seconds left and what Golden State is doing
a Jalen because that's not his really natural position. But
now he's the de facto main guy handling the ball.

(31:45):
They pressuring him, they up on him, they pressing and
pressing him, and they you know, next thing, you know,
you got turnovers on the premier here to go and
Golden State is the best in the league in transition.
And so but it's I say all that to say this, Matt,
it's growing pains. Go Look back at Go to State
when Steph Curry the man their first time in the playoffs.

(32:05):
See how they did. Go look at Shaye Gilbers when
he was with ok SEE and they first run around
in the playoffs. It's growing pains, man. You know, it's
just something that you have to do. You can't there's
no shortcuts, you can't go. You gotta go through it.
And so game, yeah, game Wednesday night is gonna be
a must win game, and it's gonna be interesting to

(32:26):
see how Jalen responds. In particular. It's not just Dalen,
but I'm just using an example of you have an
offensive football and if the quarterback is the guy that
is FORPOSD to initiate to all, it matters now that
the receivers down feel are open.

Speaker 15 (32:41):
The guy that's initiated, the guy who has the ball
in his hands, he has to be precise, he has
to be on time, he has to have good passes
to get everybody in rhythm. And when that's not happening,
you're gonna have some run droughts where you don't score.
And that's the only thing I would say is but
it's growing pains. Man, I'm not met.

Speaker 14 (33:02):
I don't think KD being added to this roster makes
them the winner of the NBA Championship. I just don't.
It's just got to be more growth with the guys
you got and then maybe added KD. But you about
two years down the line for me, for you talking
serious championship caliber team, and you know, and so let's

(33:23):
let's pump the breaks. Let's let's let's see how Jalen responds.
Let's see how.

Speaker 1 (33:28):
Yeah, people should be popping the breaks.

Speaker 2 (33:30):
I mean, if you're not, if you're everybody's indicting him
for the series loss after one game, that's foolish.

Speaker 1 (33:35):
I don't think anybody's doing that.

Speaker 2 (33:37):
You just I mean, I think there are some people
that want to see Jalen take the next step in
his NBA career, And I think when you're in a
playoff series, you are defined by what you do, and
especially against a team that you have struggled with mightily
that the struggles continued. So, uh, those that are not
the biggest Jalen Green factor fans out there are going
to say, Hey, this is we expected this, We're not

(33:59):
surprise this, and we can't get to the next level
unless somebody else is the second is the main go
to score?

Speaker 1 (34:06):
The number one thing I kept seeing all weekend long
we can get to a break is who's the go
to guy? Maybe can out?

Speaker 2 (34:13):
Is it too easy for us to define alpurn is
the go to guy because it felt like every time
they went to him last night Ross he came through
for him.

Speaker 1 (34:19):
Yeah, I think it's the go to guys.

Speaker 2 (34:21):
Is matchup depending when you're in a seven game series,
it's guess what, it's the same matchup for seven games.
And in this matchup, absolutely alprin Schremun is the go
to guy.

Speaker 1 (34:29):
Yeah, all right? Seven one three two one two five
seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven
ninety we are with you today until two p m.

Speaker 2 (34:38):
This afternoon. We welcome you. We've got a Gordy stop
By coming up in a couple of minutes. We also
want to tell you that we've got to tell the
truth coming up at eleven thirty today and believe it
or not, which is all things about, Uh, Pope Francis
seven one three two one two five seven ninety.

Speaker 1 (34:56):
Hey, you little Gordy stop By. We know you can't.
You can't, you can't. It can't be missed out by?
Then leave, will you? You've made it sound like you
had other thing pressing issues A little No, you're always
a part. You don't care what you talk about. Okay,
what do you got? What do you I mean? Oh,
let's talk about your boy going to UCLA? Do you
really want to do college?

Speaker 16 (35:13):
Well?

Speaker 1 (35:13):
Just really quick, okay, First of all, say his name again,
Niko Yamaliava. Okay, I'm gonna just give that up. So
do we know how much UCLA? He again?

Speaker 2 (35:21):
For those who don't know, uh, he was making two
at Tennessee one and four Tennessee told him to shut
their bumb mass up, his bumb mass up. Then he
puts his name out there and all these colleges around
the country. He said, yeah, we'll talk to you, but
we're gonna wait till the dollar amount goes down. We
know what a dollar amount at UCLA he's getting.

Speaker 17 (35:37):
First off, it was two and a half a year
at testsee, because it was gonna be ten million over
four years if he played all four years. Okay, so yeah,
the report is it's between one and two million. He's
a CLA and for Los Angeles that's more like three
hundred thousands.

Speaker 1 (35:52):
With Texas, Oh.

Speaker 2 (35:53):
Yeah, yep, he's definitely going. He took the loss on
that and he's not playing nearly as good of a conference.

Speaker 17 (35:59):
Yeah, I mean, the big tent's good, but it's so
I think Clay Travis said he hit the trifecta. He
got less money, less talent, less, less better team, and
less better coaching. Like he downgraded everything less better coaching, yes, better,
Uh you know what I mean, Like he downgraded across
the board worse, worse, worse and worse.

Speaker 1 (36:22):
Yuma. And you know the story with the brother, right,
it's it's easier to say hurry Villa Chase.

Speaker 17 (36:30):
His younger brother, whose name is Madden, like John Madden,
he was committed to u C l A on signing
day last year or this past December, flipped on signing
day to Arkansas. So the brother left them at the
altar and now the older brothers coming to play for them.

Speaker 1 (36:50):
Yeah, it's fine.

Speaker 2 (36:52):
This is he might be the poster boy, but this
feels like to me, boys, it's gonna just gonna be
a one off. Most kids leaving that are that kind
of elk. First of all, I'm not going to make
their demands public. They're just going to privately get more
money elsewhere.

Speaker 1 (37:05):
Did you see the bad news for the Kougs over
the weekend. There couldn't be any possibly bad news. Starting
corner and starting safety both into the portal. That's fine. Whatever,
come on, Willie Fritz. All Connor Wingman did was just
throw touchdown after touchdowns to touchdown again too. His team.

(37:26):
Oh it was the Red White Gamer, Black, red Gamer Red. Okay,
So you just turn up that secondary and they just
had people transfer out.

Speaker 3 (37:32):
It's fine.

Speaker 2 (37:33):
Hey, we're known for fifty eight to fifty four games.
By the way, Astors. You worked Astros over the weekend? Yes,
I did, Yes, And they look good Friday inside. I
mean they look good yesterday. We got a good Fromberg
last night. Gave him a chance six innings to run ball.
They just the timely hitting still is not It's not
all the way there. But do you know the jose

(37:54):
L Twova is batting three to zero two. He is
no longer the Astro's leading hitter of batting average. You
know who it is, Jake Myers. It is Jake the
Rake Myers.

Speaker 1 (38:03):
WHOA. Now there's no slug but at least he's jes
the ninth was supposed to be your ninth place sitter.

Speaker 17 (38:09):
He has several multi hit games this season. Guys, we're
not gonna have two or three hit games. We're not
gonna have Cam Smith batt ninth all year, are we?

Speaker 13 (38:16):
No?

Speaker 1 (38:17):
I mean you talk about how about this? He better not? Yeah,
that's right, that's right. But that's fine. He had the
two home runs on Friday. That was outstanding.

Speaker 2 (38:24):
Yeah, that was great. Yeah, you know what he'll be.
He's gonna be just fine. He's just having to learn
on the job. And look, everybody does that. We we
if sometimes you get jobs before you're training qualified. And
that's Cam Smith right now.

Speaker 1 (38:37):
There was a ball.

Speaker 17 (38:38):
Well, he made one great play last night, running on
the run, arm outstretched. So that was a good defensive play.
But he had one that was the ball was ripped
right down the line and it went right back into
that corner, and he didn't know how to play it
just yet. He was like, oh it's is it gonna
hit the wall? Oh no, it went all the way.

Speaker 1 (38:56):
To the back wall.

Speaker 2 (38:57):
And this is this is a mood conversation a couple
of years. He's a athlete. He'll be just fine. He's
gonna be fine, all right. So what I was looking
forward to, honestly on the Astros was the how did
Lance mccullors like hanging out with his bros in Midland? Okay,
there was just one problem. Stomach flu Yeah, got the poops.

(39:20):
Didn't go to Midland? Yeah, I got a stomach pudg.
He apparently he had an ivy and everything. Hopefully he's okay.

Speaker 1 (39:25):
Would you call that a setback? Did you have a
set back?

Speaker 12 (39:28):
No?

Speaker 1 (39:28):
Setback for Lance mccullor's junior, it's a little stomach. What's
what's my gut feeling on his major leaguers? I think
you had his arm fault enough. Yeah, you had Gang
Green in his arm by now, it's not even true.
That's not nice. But any hope of him. You said
he's going to the bullpen, which is not supposed to
be joining them in Kansas City this weekend. I think
that's no. It sounds like that Dana said was probably

(39:50):
because Gusta has been doing well, So you're okay there?

Speaker 2 (39:53):
Hey, I mean, honestly, boys with a bunch of no
name or lievers and spot starters.

Speaker 4 (40:00):
Yeah, I'm.

Speaker 1 (40:02):
I don't have the an agree and I'm not watching
every pitch living a life or death with it.

Speaker 2 (40:07):
But to me, hanging around five hundred, as we're trying
to figure out these waters that are murky in terms
of replacing Bregmann and replacing and putting a new left
fielder and a new right fielder out there, I mean,
Paradis has defended his position. Well this things could be
a lot worse than they are, right.

Speaker 4 (40:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 17 (40:22):
I saw somebody tweeting out over the weekend about, oh,
do you see what Kyle Tucker is doing. He is
crushing three batting three hundred, it's six home runs for
the Cubs. But look at what Paradis has given you
so far, Look at what Cam Smith has given you
Hayden was Nesci five innings of two runball on Saturday
gets you know, they get the win. Like the trade
is an even trade. Right now, we can gush all
we one over Tucker, but the trade has worked out so.

Speaker 2 (40:44):
Far it's going to be one trade because you still
have Wesnski under control Paradis as well, and then obviously
Cam Smith's.

Speaker 1 (40:49):
Under control for several years.

Speaker 2 (40:50):
In theory, the only way the Astros lose the trade
is if Kyle Tucker signed the long term extension. They
still don't lose because they weren't gonna do that anyways.
But I mean, you you really start so the Cubs
win this rate. The Astros can't lose it with with
what's going on. No, because Kyle Tucker was no way,
no chance to know how going to be here after
twenty twenty five.

Speaker 1 (41:08):
Well, they could get in on them again if if
they want, if he's free.

Speaker 2 (41:10):
It's true, Okay, you're spending way too much time on
Astros Twitter. You know you should be spending time on
and we got the Astros and the Toronto Blue Jays
in for a three game series starting. But it's nice,
by the way. It's see some American League competition. Where's
all this National League crap we're seeing so far?

Speaker 17 (41:25):
Yeah, Steve Sports brought up they'd seen the Mets. I
mean it was like all the best teams in the
NL you've played outside of the Dodgers so far.

Speaker 2 (41:31):
Yeah, Cardinals and Giants so far. Getting out of that
taken care of him, by the way. He shot out
again to the Dodgers, beating the Rangers two out of three.
So Astros gained a little bit of ground on Texas
in the America League West.

Speaker 1 (41:43):
It is eleven o one on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Great to have all of you with us here today
and the hour number two we go to two o'clock
this afternoon Sports Talk seven ninety it's seven to one
to three two one two five seven ninety seven one
three two one two five seven hind it's ear I'm
a little choked up. The WrestleMania's got you all choked up?

(42:05):
It does. You can't get enough of Pat Matt. Yeah,
turn that off immediately. You want support.

Speaker 2 (42:11):
On what happened last night at the main event, I
don't know should you give people a warning?

Speaker 1 (42:14):
Well, I didn't see it. All I can tell is
I saw the video highlight. Okay, Uh read about in
the papers on the evening, on the in the dirt sheets.

Speaker 2 (42:24):
Yeah, you know what, Uh, let's screw it. If you
don't want to know what happened, and it happened yesterday.
If you don't know by now, you just don't remember.

Speaker 1 (42:33):
Gonna know. Three two one, John Cena is the new
wwhim my gosh, unbelievable. I didn't think he could do it.

Speaker 2 (42:43):
The other script apparently Travis Scott came in and helped
interfere in the Travis Scott again, Yeah, why.

Speaker 1 (42:50):
Did he go trample somebody?

Speaker 2 (42:52):
So universally Travis Scott is hated by anybody that's a
wrestling fan for being involved.

Speaker 1 (42:57):
Oh really, so what segment, what part of the population
did did? Does does w W go?

Speaker 18 (43:03):
You know what?

Speaker 1 (43:04):
We need to add a Travis Scott because Travis Scott,
let's face it, it's been a tumultuous last couple of years.
The whole Astra World situation was bad. Over there. Tell
me what what he brings to the table. Obviously there's
something I don't know.

Speaker 2 (43:19):
He's very well known and famous, but he is a
controversial figure. I mean, George Clooney is very well known
and famous. It didn't bring him out. I don't think
he's gonna be showing up at w W. Maybe I
mean Travis Scott, I imagine is he a big w
WE fan? Wants to be involved? Couldn't tell you, Wellcott,
I want to I want to be in the w
W and being involved on you know, and then't ask me.

Speaker 12 (43:42):
So.

Speaker 2 (43:42):
Yeah, johnsena who had not been in a major wrestling
match in years?

Speaker 1 (43:47):
Why not?

Speaker 2 (43:47):
What's he because he's been acting in acting? Yeah, I
think he's very funny. He's gonna be He's gonna have
a nice career when it's all said and done. Uh
when it comes to acting, didn't he get mixed up
in some controversy with China and Taiwan. He had to
like apologize to the pull of China or something like that.
These are things that I don't even know, Okay, I
just know that he hooked up with one of the
Bella twins and that was that's a great conquest on
his story.

Speaker 4 (44:07):
Friend?

Speaker 1 (44:08):
Oh, was he married? He's married now? Not to not
to her? Oare's Nicki and uh Bree and he was
hanging out with Nikki. That's the one. She got the
work done on her breast. She's more ample than Bree.

Speaker 4 (44:19):
Isn't that?

Speaker 2 (44:21):
Isn't that dangerous to be a wrestler and to have well,
they even wrestled in a while, didn't didn't the wrestler
have something popped before? It seems dangerous? Yeah, China, way
back in the day made she rest she's dead. Her
finishing move was called the rack attack. Are you serious?
Could I make that up?

Speaker 1 (44:37):
Yeah? Of course I could.

Speaker 2 (44:37):
A rack attack? Yeah, but why didn't suffocate you with
her breast? It wound up hurting her back. This is
going to conclude wrestling conversation for the day.

Speaker 1 (44:48):
She's out there slipping a disc with the rack attack.
I think it's a great name for a finishing move.
Oh my god. All right, And it was like please, no, oh,
don't give me the rack attack.

Speaker 2 (45:02):
This is the worst. I mean, you are accurate. You
don't once you get once you get hit by the
rock attack, you don't get up from that.

Speaker 1 (45:15):
I don't know. Apparently Travis Scott has been pushing for this.
The rock did not make an appearance yesterday.

Speaker 2 (45:22):
I just put why is Traviscott and WWE and Google
and one of them says there was entirely too much.
Travis Scott at WrestleMania. Yeah, I mean, what did George
Strake called Triple A and said, hey, I want to
be involved in this? Not he would say it was
his last match and then he'd do five more. Hey,
that's not nice, guys, phone up major stadiums. He is,

(45:43):
he said, you cutting that? Check him out of retirement.
We should really in all honesty in sports and an
entertainment and when someone says they're going to retire, just
don't believe them.

Speaker 1 (45:52):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (45:52):
I mean when I grew up, sugar Y Leanter was
retiring every other day, and he came back a bunch
of different times. We've seen Elton John do a multitude
of reunion tours and come back, and same thing with
Cher and Paul Simon's currently on tour game, which I
don't know how because you and I went a few
years ago and we were.

Speaker 1 (46:10):
Like, Jesus, how is he still alive? And they putting
him in a shipping container? Howmet getting him out there?
He even move? I guess he was so popular.

Speaker 2 (46:20):
On the fiftieth edition of the scient Live Anniversary, they said,
you know, let's go on a fifteen or twenty city tour.

Speaker 1 (46:26):
Okay, good for him?

Speaker 2 (46:27):
Yeah all right, so yeah, John Cena, congratulations, is now
the new WWE champion. One of the planting Cody Roads. Unbelievable,
a passing of the baton. This is like Ali beating Frasier.
It's funny because Cameron, my oldest who's still a huge
wrestling fans. Like I said, you know what's going on.

(46:48):
I saw him at halftime in the game. Last thing
he is, No, I got my phone on mute. Let
me tell you what a sacrifice that is to tell
a twenty four year old young man not to look
at his phone for multiple hours. Not because he's focused
on the game in front of him, not because he
is at church or spending time with his family. It's
because he doesn't want to see the results of WrestleMania.

(47:11):
There's there's today generation in a nutshell right there.

Speaker 1 (47:14):
Good for him? Bite you talking this show. Good for you.

Speaker 2 (47:21):
You've learned seven one three two one two five seven.
The Rockets last night fall ninety five to eighty five
to the Golden State Warriors.

Speaker 1 (47:28):
Golden State is up one game to none.

Speaker 2 (47:30):
Steph Curry last night thirty one points twenty five from
Jimmy Butner.

Speaker 1 (47:34):
You know, we talked about this on Friday. You stop
those two guys, you win. Well, you just couldn't stop them,
no Smith.

Speaker 2 (47:42):
I mean they combined for fifty six of their in
ninety five points. We also talked about in playoff games,
the difference can often be it's like, you know what,
we did everything we could. That guy was just too good.
He rows above it. And we said the Rockets are
really lacking in somebody like that. Yeah, and the Warriors
have two like that and they did it both in

(48:03):
the same game. Jimmy Butler was knocking down tough shots.
He was great, and then Steph Curry was just I
mean it was vintage Steph Curry. Knock At some of
those shots that he was knocking down, it was ridiculous.
O'pring was awesome last night, eleven of eighteen, twenty six points,
nine rebounds, and assist, three steals. He just had one
problem as well as in much of the team turnovers,
especially clogging up the low block, putting the ball on

(48:26):
the floor, losing the ball. Five turnovers for him. The
Rockets last night had seventeen in Golden State to their credit,
leak out on those turnovers. Gary Payton got a couple
of layoffs off of them, and they turned him into
twenty five Warrior points last night. Yeah, turnovers turning into
transition points and miss threes that's and miss free throws.

Speaker 1 (48:47):
All of that why the Rockets lost last night.

Speaker 2 (48:49):
And I wish I don't know we had the comment
from Draymond Green, but he basically, I'm paraphrasing here of
this a little bit. He says, Look, the best part
of the Rockets offense is their offensive rebounding. It's almost
like they regathered themselves a little bit for taking that
initial shot.

Speaker 1 (49:01):
Yeah, that was the best part last night. I mean,
it can be better if they just knocked down some shots. Please,
Let's knock some shots down, baby, Yeah, big minutes, let's go.

Speaker 2 (49:10):
Let's talk to Dwayne and El Paso at eleven o
eight on seven. I think Dwayne, thanks for holding in.

Speaker 14 (49:14):
Good morning, Good morning, guys.

Speaker 19 (49:17):
I got a question for y'all. This year Anthony Edwards
and Jalen Brunson. There was one other player that were
voted as clutch Players of the Year. But my question
is the Rockets and the Cleveland Cavaliers both played the
most clutched games in the NBA this year, and there's

(49:41):
not one on the list of clutch players as far
as the Houston Rockets are concerned. And at least eight
of those Houston Rockets players were in every one of
those clutch games that they played this year. Who does
the voting on.

Speaker 1 (49:58):
This thing, man, I don't know. I've never heard of
clutch Player of the Y. No, it's not a vote.
There's got to be some sort of metric that's attached
to it. And if it is a vote by human beings,
I've never heard of it. It's not really recognized by
the NBA. It feels like that's just silly fodder.

Speaker 2 (50:19):
I mean, I honestly, Dwayne, I couldn't care less who
was a clutch player or not. I watched the NBA,
I watched my team, I watch other games. I know
who's clutch and who's not. And last night Steph Curry
and Jimmy Butler were the two most clutch players on
the floor last night for.

Speaker 1 (50:35):
Their respective team. Right, Okay, yeah, thank you, Dawanne, appreciate it.
I have no idea what that is. Is this a
real award?

Speaker 2 (50:44):
Jerry West Trophy NBA Clutch Player of the year Dearon
Fox won it in twenty three.

Speaker 1 (50:50):
I had never heard Steph Curry won it last year.
I think they just started it when Dearon Fox won it.
I never heard of that. I think it came out
when I was in college, like twenty one, which play three. Yeah,
twenty three was the first time it was handed out.

Speaker 2 (51:02):
I mean, don't doesn't Golden State play more clutch five
points or less games than five minutes left the gold Games?

Speaker 1 (51:07):
Anybody else in the NBA? Probably?

Speaker 2 (51:09):
Yeah, Yeah, I don't know if I put I mean,
that's a nice award, But do I put it on
the Mantlepie like six man cool All NBA team?

Speaker 1 (51:21):
Yeah? All defensive?

Speaker 2 (51:22):
I mean yeah, your finalists are Jalen Brunson, Anthony Edwards,
and Nikola Jokic this year, all with three to me
would be guys that I would go to in the
fourth quarter one a basketball game for me, probably Jokic
probably over the other two. Although Anthony Edwards was really
good Saturday night for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Speaker 1 (51:38):
They beat it, they beat up Luca did great.

Speaker 2 (51:41):
But Lebron and I don't like this, Okay, I don't
say it's very often about Lebron he did look his
age yesterday or on Saturday night.

Speaker 1 (51:50):
Yeah, he's forty years old. I mean he's ever been
of forty.

Speaker 2 (51:53):
And that's why when the Mavericks, when the Lakers made
the move, they necessarily have to dial up Lebron' say, man,
do you mind if Luka comes over here? Guys, you know,
fifteen years younger than you are, and it's a free
tuer franchise player this team, and we love and appreciate
what you've done, but we need somebody to be the
the alpha dog, and I think Lucas gonna be that
for them.

Speaker 1 (52:12):
He will when they need to get a better team
around them. Yeah, not good defensively. I think Minnesota's gonna
score in them all series. Yeah, I mean I wouldn't
be surprised Minnesota wins that series. Really, I think they will.
I'm kicking myself because I wanted to get into that series.

Speaker 2 (52:28):
Price by the way, you know you there is a
contest out there, and I was thinking about this for
a second. I don't think the odds are good, but
could you see someone getting every bracket right, every you know,
perfect bracket. They're give only a million dollars in that really?

Speaker 13 (52:44):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (52:45):
It feels like it's a lot easier in the NBA.
I don't know what the oddos.

Speaker 2 (52:48):
There's only sixteen teams competing, it's compared to sixty eight. Yeah,
and then there's a gammey He's like, oh, hopefully Oklahoma
City boom done. Gimme, Well, you've got you've got the gimmes.
You've got probably two gimmes in the many, maybe even
as many as three. And then then you have to
start like, if let's say Minnesota plays the Rockets, that
wouldn't be a gimme on either side. If Minnesota plays

(53:10):
the Golden State Warriors, that wouldn't necessarily be a gimme
on it either.

Speaker 1 (53:13):
I mean, I could see no one getting it right.

Speaker 2 (53:18):
But at least it feels like you've got a puncher chance,
especially because first of all, you've only got sixteen teams
competing in it, and second of all, you have to
win a game a best of seven.

Speaker 1 (53:26):
Usually the best team wins out of a best of seven.

Speaker 4 (53:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (53:29):
Yeah, the college one is impossible. Impossible, It's impossible, all right.

Speaker 2 (53:34):
Eleven thirteen on Sports Talk seven or eight, It's The
Man Thomas Show with Ross We've got to tell the truth.
Coming up with the botom of the hour. I have
four takes, Ross, I believe three of them. Okay, one.
I do not believe you believe. This is getting harder
and harder by the way. I know it's a tough segment.
Whenever you're out, I'm like, dang, no, but I gotta
do it today. Sometimes when around I just skip it.

Speaker 3 (53:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (53:55):
No, you skip a lot of segments. Did you NFLR
win last Tuesday?

Speaker 8 (53:58):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (53:59):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (54:00):
I don't believe that for you. This was great. I
don't think so at all. It's fantastic.

Speaker 12 (54:03):
Man.

Speaker 1 (54:03):
It was one for the ages. Quite frankly, you know,
I'm gonna go air check it. See how good.

Speaker 2 (54:08):
Guys, If you would like to be a part of
this radio show, we would thank you very much because look,
Ross and I have a few things we want to say,
but we do involve listener interaction. We do believe that
most of you, not all of you, but most of
you have a decent or two comment. If you think
you can contribute to the radio program. Seven one three,
two one two five seven nine zero seven one three

(54:31):
two one two five seven ninety is how you reach
the show.

Speaker 1 (54:34):
If you want to reach out to US via Twitter.
You may do that as well.

Speaker 2 (54:36):
It's at Sports MT and at Sports RV. The Red
Sox are playing there, I think called what they called
the Patriots Day Game. I think it's four to one
already in the bottom of the fourth.

Speaker 1 (54:49):
What can we do something like that here? Wouldn't that
be fun to have like a game at like eleven
o five local time? I think that'd be fantastic.

Speaker 2 (54:57):
I know how you're thinking, but I do and I
have there's no we have no dog on the fight
in this because it's the it's it's a New England holiday.

Speaker 1 (55:06):
No let's go white socks. Oh, I see what you're saying.
But you know what I'm saying. I mean, we don't
have it like a do we have a special like
you know, like when we were kids who go texting day?
You used to get the day off from school? Uh No,
ioul didn't get the day off from school. Oh we
did all the time. You'd have to wear your cowboy hat.

Speaker 14 (55:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (55:25):
Matter of fact, I think we got.

Speaker 2 (55:26):
We got day off for Katie f f a rodeo day.
You get some square pizza and some chocolate milk and you.

Speaker 1 (55:32):
Have a good day. Big role in those Big East rolls.

Speaker 2 (55:35):
Yeah, I just I want I want a strange start
time for one game, like you know, like a kid's day,
eleven o five, first pitch like the Cubs. Yeah no,
that's all you know because I always played they play. Yeah,
feel like just this bad Boy started two hours ago
in uh Inaster. Yeah, but it's still eleven o five

(55:57):
on a Monday. Seems really random. Yeah, what do you
think of a definitive?

Speaker 1 (56:02):
Like what kind of you know, they're always a rocket,
the Astros, always trying to think of new things to do.
That's true. Promotions, Yeah, but they want people in the building.
If you schedule something like June twelfth, yeah, you'd have
to do it, durn I get you win, School's out. Yeah, okay,
what would it be? I don't know, Brunch with the Astros.
I don't know, brunch tros.

Speaker 4 (56:22):
I like that.

Speaker 1 (56:23):
What I really figure something out? Go get hammered on
some mimosas we could do the.

Speaker 2 (56:26):
Pregame show out there you got then you naugo sit
out in the Crawford boxes watch the game out.

Speaker 1 (56:30):
Yeah, thrown up by the six inning, let's go.

Speaker 2 (56:32):
I don't think we need to vomit. I mean I
guess would be part of the core if Yeah. Unfortunately,
all right U seven one three two one two seventy.
So we will say go White Sox. Go White Socks.
By the way, tough of the White Sox. They have
to travel into Boston to play an early game like that,
Manfred said, your chobumass up and get in there. Yeah,

(56:55):
White Sox.

Speaker 1 (56:55):
By the way, have you been watching any of the
Rays games in Tampa? I man, they they're trying, not really,
I mean I've seen highlights. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (57:03):
Man, it looks like it's a raised ballpark. It's small,
no seats in there. It's the exact dimensions of Yankee Stadium. Yeah, exactly,
Steinbrandner Field, right right.

Speaker 1 (57:13):
So now when you go to look and see how
many home runs this is a ball and how many
ballparks something was a home run in, it's like it's two.

Speaker 2 (57:19):
Meanwhile, if you watch the A's, it looks like they're
playing at a nineteen seventy five softball field and nobody
seems to care. And it's only going to be like
one hundred and ten degrees before you know it. Good luck,
A's get those electrolts up seriously. And I saw this
on Twitter the other day.

Speaker 1 (57:39):
Do you think Rob Manford is embarrassed or could give
too craps about the fact that two of his baseball
teams are not playing in major league stadiums.

Speaker 2 (57:46):
I think it's two different situations in a way, like
the Tampa Bay situation is a bigger mess. At least
this is just a band aid for the A's are
going to eventually be in Las Vegas. They should be
able to be successful. It should be good with sponsorships,
make the league more money. Tampa Bay, what the hell
is going on?

Speaker 1 (58:00):
Were there? They got to figure something out because they
were gonna build that new stadium. Now they're not. They
were repairing the old stadium correct or No? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (58:06):
And by the way, if you want a piece of
the tarp that covered the stadium, you know, like the
whatever that what?

Speaker 1 (58:12):
Yeah, you get a piece. They're selling pieces of that
nasty tarp fifteen bucks. Hey you want to see that.

Speaker 2 (58:20):
You're gonna have a piece of the tarp where fifteen
thousand people watch this play a playoff game and lose.

Speaker 1 (58:26):
No, yeah, I can't wait to all right, bid on that.

Speaker 2 (58:31):
Speaking of people wasting their money on pieces of ballparks,
anybody buy those oranges for a minute.

Speaker 1 (58:35):
Made you know what? I will take one as a
June fifth birthday gift. No, it's like it's like one
piece unless you're gonna have somebody to lop one off.

Speaker 2 (58:45):
Yeah, I'll take, I'll take. I'll take a part of
an orange. Huh like those on ones who used to
buy the Groce serore. What do they call those ones?
The little miniature mandarans, the tangerines, but they're like the cuties.

Speaker 1 (58:57):
Cuties. Yeah, I'm taking Cutie. You're really proud of yourself
for that one. Then, so what I say? I said,
I'm taking Gunty. You were really proud of that.

Speaker 14 (59:09):
Terrible.

Speaker 1 (59:10):
I'm trying to find out what happened with these auctions.

Speaker 2 (59:12):
Because when when I was growing up, when teams were
moving around, especially in basketball ross the commissioner Warren look
at all these teams folding or moving from city to city,
and it made the commissioners look bad. I mean, do
you think Rob Manford's like, what could I have done?
She'd been way more proactive on this situation. All right,
orange is still for sale. Bit is up to twenty

(59:33):
eight hundred bucks for how many Look, it's the one
p It's like a big thing of oranges with the.

Speaker 1 (59:38):
Ladybug on it twenty eight hundred. Just buy me dinner
like Charles instead. I'm not buying you anything. I don't
even know that bad.

Speaker 2 (59:52):
It's ridiculous, by the way. I've had my software and
my car updated multiple times.

Speaker 1 (59:57):
On my screen.

Speaker 2 (59:59):
I keep waiting, waiting to say dyke in park on oh,
and it still says ben it made.

Speaker 13 (01:00:03):
Hmmm.

Speaker 1 (01:00:05):
Yeah, that's gonna be a problem for you. No, I
think that's any problem. I know where it is. I
don't know if you do. But it is kind of
strange that. I don't know if you've got a nice
enough car that has this.

Speaker 2 (01:00:15):
But we have a big I have a big screen
that's got like the photos of different downtown buildings, and
it makes minime look nice.

Speaker 1 (01:00:22):
But it's not minime anymore. No, I don't have that.
I got my eight track really, yeah, I used to
love the eight tracks. I got some skinner in there,
some credence. I'll get you, you know, I'll get you
a cassette tape, and then for your birthday, I'm buy
you a VCR. Love it. People are buying that stuff.
You can. You've got a bunch of old vhs VHS
tapes in the attict sell them.

Speaker 2 (01:00:42):
One of my best friends lives in Charlotte's got about
three thousand DVDs.

Speaker 1 (01:00:46):
Yeah, well DVDs aren't hot on the market, but vhs
is are coming back to do what people get nostalgia.
People are buying them. Eh CDs too.

Speaker 2 (01:00:57):
I would think that I would think the VCR tapes
would be just cumbersome and hard.

Speaker 13 (01:01:02):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (01:01:03):
The store away and in.

Speaker 2 (01:01:04):
Video games you go find like PlayStation two games at
like goodwill or something. Our old producer Jacob used to
do this. He would go and find some some video
games and then he would flip him on eBay for
one hundred dollars.

Speaker 1 (01:01:15):
Good for him. Yeah, people, who is he actually make
money doing something? Well?

Speaker 2 (01:01:19):
Yes, it's usually crawdaddy farming, but he was doing pretty well.
He owns a crackling farm.

Speaker 1 (01:01:25):
Yeah, let's go. You don't farm cracklings, man, You don't
know that, you know, fertilized cracks.

Speaker 10 (01:01:31):
You don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:01:31):
You know a lot of fans got a big crackling
farm community. Hi, Bob, you're on seven ninety. Good morning, Bob.

Speaker 20 (01:01:40):
Hi, Okay can hear me?

Speaker 5 (01:01:42):
Okay?

Speaker 20 (01:01:43):
Yes, okay, good Hey I'm a Red Sox fan. I
know that's my problem. But one thing first, thank you
for Alex Rereightman.

Speaker 1 (01:01:52):
Yeah, you're welcome.

Speaker 20 (01:01:55):
That was a real point of the idea in the beginning.
You know, they have a pretty good farm.

Speaker 12 (01:01:59):
System and had a lot of good prospects, but uh,
you know, bringing in the guy for that much money,
they could have.

Speaker 20 (01:02:06):
Spent their elsewhere, like when pitching. But anyway, the reason
I called was I heard you guys talking about the
Patriots Day game that they're having. I'm there.

Speaker 13 (01:02:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:02:15):
By the way, Patriots Day officially was Saturday. Was the
marathon yesterday?

Speaker 6 (01:02:20):
Is that what it was?

Speaker 20 (01:02:20):
Or was it?

Speaker 1 (01:02:21):
Is it today?

Speaker 20 (01:02:23):
It's today.

Speaker 12 (01:02:23):
That's why the game is at eleven o'clock. So the
idea is that the game's over before the finish of
the marathon.

Speaker 1 (01:02:31):
Okay, I got you.

Speaker 20 (01:02:33):
The traffic kind of put things out. That was the
methods of the madness, but it became an institution when
I grew up. That was a cool thing to do,
was to go into Boston and go to the game
and then get caught up in the craziness of the
marathon afterwards.

Speaker 2 (01:02:51):
Well, thank you, Bob for the phone call. Appreciate information.
I knew that I knew it was around patriots that
I didn't know that the marathon was attached to it.
But yeah, that's maybe we should do with marathon then
eleven O five Astros versus whomever, and then go to
a marathon right after.

Speaker 1 (01:03:05):
That run it. No, I'd sit and watch it. I
wouldn't rune, oh you know, pick pull up a chair,
what sweaty people run by?

Speaker 2 (01:03:13):
No, I would probably just say that, hey, I'll be
there to support you a mile fourteen and then just
say I get lost.

Speaker 1 (01:03:22):
Okay, yeah we can. We can work on this.

Speaker 2 (01:03:29):
Although I don't want a marathon bit steel. What can
could we retie it to something Rodeo related?

Speaker 13 (01:03:38):
Maybe?

Speaker 3 (01:03:39):
Maybe? No problem is.

Speaker 2 (01:03:41):
Rodeo is in February, so that doesn't know it's any
good in April. What could we do around here? Texas
Independence Day? Okay, think of something. We gotta we gotta
do something little twelve o five first pitch?

Speaker 1 (01:03:57):
When is Texas Independence Day? I'm poising you should I
know this. I don't know it.

Speaker 2 (01:04:04):
I was gonna say you remember something. Don't even throw
that out there. There are people yelling at their radios.
Of course, Texas depends day is of course it is
on March second. Look thirty six. We're watching the game
around there's like there's it's completely sold out middle of
the day.

Speaker 1 (01:04:20):
Yeah, well, pe a Boston Red Sox fans.

Speaker 2 (01:04:22):
Are you know it's one of the most popular fan base.
They're big fan bases. Yeah, Alex Bregmanet's play Uh oh
o oh is op look at his ops eight seventy eight?
Whoa a couple of walks? Damn dude, and he just
popped out.

Speaker 1 (01:04:41):
It's going down.

Speaker 2 (01:04:42):
You never know and not if you don't know that, Fenway, Yeah,
all right, to tell the truth of something next, you're
ready for that? No, I never know why, but I do,

(01:05:08):
And I'm going to tell the truth three times out
of a possible four. By the way, shout out to
a lot of our audience. Are my buddy Wade, Mark Pedro,
Tom and downtown. Today is Sanjacento Day, Russie. We could
play an eleven O five with happy Sanjacento Day.

Speaker 4 (01:05:28):
Oh.

Speaker 1 (01:05:28):
Why was it the Battle of sanja Cento? Why I
would assume so? One hundred and eighty nine years ago,
nine hundred fearless Texans secured victory at the Battle of
San ja Cento. They want our independence and forever shaped
the bold spirit of Texas. That same courage lives on
in the millions who call the greatest date in America home.

Speaker 2 (01:05:44):
That's from our Governor Greg Abbott. How about this, thanks Greig.
Astros Rangers rotate every other year. We play an eleven
o five first pitch on a Monday on San Jacento Day.
And you know what, Omelet stations at minute Made Park
right the dyk in Park. Yes, we'll celebrate the war

(01:06:07):
started because the Texas settlers wanted to keep their slaves.

Speaker 1 (01:06:12):
Great stuff. Okay, I'm gonna let you editorialize. I can't
speak to this. All I'm gonna say is that's history
that I would like to have a fresh orange juice
an Omelet park, and I will be also handling waffle
station outside of section one twenty three.

Speaker 2 (01:06:25):
Okay for an eleven o five first pitch. Happy Sam
Jacento Day to all those that celebrate those it doesn't celebrate.
I was gonna say, if you don't celebrate, I'm.

Speaker 1 (01:06:35):
Gonna judge you.

Speaker 2 (01:06:37):
Chris and Troy Type will get to you just a
couple of seconds. Trust me, Like you get out of
this segment fast enough. All right, Here's how it works
to tell the truth. This is where h Ross and
Jonathan have to decide which one of the four I'm
not telling the truth? Three of the four, gentlemen, I'm
telling the truth.

Speaker 1 (01:06:57):
One I'm not.

Speaker 2 (01:06:58):
Do you understand said rules? Only one is false, only
one is false false one is false.

Speaker 15 (01:07:05):
Here we go.

Speaker 2 (01:07:05):
Number one, I watched a little bit of almost every
playoff game this weekend in the NBA playoffs. There will
not be a single game seven in any of the
playoff series. Eight playoff series, none of them go to
the seventh game. Huh, okay, okay, this is kind of random.

(01:07:27):
One minute, so I throw out there, okay.

Speaker 1 (01:07:29):
Number two.

Speaker 2 (01:07:31):
I took the comments from Nick Cassio last week about
you know what we're doing, we don't feel for need
in our draft. I think that I would not be
surprised if next this Thursday coming up, the Texans trade
out of the first round, that there will be no
breakdown like a mudda of a first round pick. I
would not be surprised if Casario trades out of the

(01:07:55):
first round.

Speaker 1 (01:07:56):
Okay, okay, that's number two.

Speaker 2 (01:07:59):
Number three, Aaron Rodgers can't find the team right now.
He's mulling it over with his new girl, taking some
downtime away from his weekly appearance in the Pat mcafe show. Apparently,
you're very lucrative, very lucrative. I think Aaron Rodgers, ultimately
boys is going to call it a career. He is

(01:08:20):
going to retire. I think he knows that the writing
is on the wall. He can't start anymore. He doesn't
want to be a clipboard holder. And I think he
is going to retire and not come back and play
in the NFL in twenty twenty five. Okay, and number four.
I believe Chas McCormick needs a change of scenery. Oh,

(01:08:40):
I am one hundred percent endorsing the Astros. Trade Chaz
McCormick for something he's not playing very much. You give
Zach the senze An opportunity, the extra outfielder, Jake Myers's
cleariest playing center.

Speaker 1 (01:08:53):
You've got Jordan Avarez playing qui a bit in left field.
You don't need him.

Speaker 2 (01:08:58):
Chaz, I think can still play in the Big League
at a very small level, fourth fifth outfielder. I think
a change of scenery is in his best interest. If
I were the Astros. I would start taking offers to
trade one Chaz McCormick for what, no matter, just to
just to you know what, something you just got Like
Roephiel Montero, you did a pitching machine, they moved they

(01:09:18):
moved him to Atlanta.

Speaker 1 (01:09:19):
Do yeah, but they had a ship like nine million
dollars with them. You get My point, just needs a
new change of scenery. Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:09:24):
So my four takes are there will not be a
seventh game in any of the a playoff series.

Speaker 1 (01:09:30):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:09:31):
Number two, I would not be surprised if the Texans
trade out of the first round.

Speaker 1 (01:09:36):
Number three, I do believe.

Speaker 2 (01:09:37):
Because Air Rodgers not received the love that he so
rich that thinks he deserves, he will be retiring.

Speaker 1 (01:09:42):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:09:43):
And number four, I think Chaz McCormack needs to change
the scenery. The Astros should start exploring a trade to
move Chaz out of Houston. Which one of the four?
Am I not telling the truth? Okay, let's talk us out.

Speaker 1 (01:10:00):
Jonathan all right, First of all, it's ridiculous to say
that there's not going to be a single seven game
series out of all the series.

Speaker 2 (01:10:09):
But see that's not the question. Jonathan Matt often has
ridiculous opinions. It's does he believe this ridiculous opinion? That's
what we have to figure out. Really, I think number
two I'm throwing out I wouldn't be surprised Nick Cassio
trades out of the first round either, especially with I
heard the same thing Matt heard. It sounded like Nickosi

(01:10:30):
was kind of open to trading back and getting more picks.

Speaker 3 (01:10:33):
And I'll have his defense right now on secondary.

Speaker 2 (01:10:35):
I think there's no way Aaron Rodgers retires. He's just
loving and lapping up all this all this attention, and
then he'll eventually play somewhere.

Speaker 1 (01:10:43):
I don't know where. The options are kind of running low.

Speaker 3 (01:10:46):
But he is old though, like he's like what forty close.

Speaker 1 (01:10:50):
That forty one? Yeah, he could retire, he's old and ancient. Yes,
And then Chas McCormick retiring, no, I mean not retiring, man,
what he might need to he just turned thirty.

Speaker 2 (01:11:01):
You're not gonna get anything for him in the trade.
But he is kind of just sitting on the bench.
But it's not like Zach Dezenzo is some great shakes.
I think you still need Chas McCormick to play everywhere
he's been a defensive replacement as well. And Jake Myers
isn't gonna hit three hundred os, he said, I'm sorry
to tell you.

Speaker 3 (01:11:15):
Folks, and he's valuable as the trade options, you know, all.

Speaker 2 (01:11:19):
Right, So you know, I mean these takes are there's
some decent ones and there's some really bad ones. Thanks Ross,
that's a nice thing you've ever said about this. Okay, Really,
I I know Matt love basketball.

Speaker 1 (01:11:31):
I don't.

Speaker 5 (01:11:31):
I'm seeing he really thinks the Pacers and Bucks ain't
gonna go to seven or just the Nicks and the Pistons.

Speaker 3 (01:11:36):
I don't.

Speaker 15 (01:11:37):
I don't.

Speaker 5 (01:11:37):
I don't think. I think it's gonna be a game
seven on. Yeah, but he makes rash decisions like this,
I'm gonna take I'm gonna take.

Speaker 1 (01:11:42):
One, I'm gonna go with three. I do believe Chas
McCormick needs to change the scenery again.

Speaker 2 (01:11:53):
You've got replacements coming up at the minor league level.
You've got the fact that you are playing you on
On Alvarez occasionally once twice week, and left field Chaz
has owned the center field spot. You're gonna give sac
Jake excuse me, You're gonna give sact Oficinzo. I'm not
saying that you should do it, but I wouldn't be
a bit you did say you should.

Speaker 3 (01:12:12):
Well, they're gonna.

Speaker 1 (01:12:13):
Listen to it. I mean, I'm not saying they're gonna
pull the trigger.

Speaker 2 (01:12:15):
But I think Chas McCormick's best days as a Houston Astros,
a major leaguer are long gone.

Speaker 1 (01:12:21):
Okay, And I hope I'm wrong because I like Chazz.
What do you like about him?

Speaker 2 (01:12:25):
Versutill another? Things you just talked about. But I just
think sometimes you just you gotta get out. And I
think the Astros will try to find some low end
prospect and get it returned for it.

Speaker 1 (01:12:37):
Just a thought, Okay. Number two Pacers Bucks.

Speaker 2 (01:12:45):
To me, the Bucks just look like they want They
don't have any any interest to playing any defense. I
don't know if Dame Lillard is gonna come back. If
there was any series that might go seven, it might
be that one. But I watching what I saw this weekend,
I don't think anybody's going seven games.

Speaker 1 (01:13:03):
M Okay, somebody will go seven games. Okay, I'm tell
you new is proven to me. I know I'm gonna
write this one down. You should write it down.

Speaker 2 (01:13:15):
And Number three, the one I do believe to be false.
Aaron Rodgers' ego is too incredibly big. There's no way,
no how, He's just going to just go off and
run off in the sunset because no one wanted him.
If he's going to leave, he's gonna leave or football field.
So yeah, Aaron Rodgers is not going to retire. I
would not be surprised at the textans right out of

(01:13:36):
the first round. So unfortunately, and I mean it's an
all sinceret ross, you were able to figure out which
one I was not tone.

Speaker 1 (01:13:44):
Jonathan, you got to get in the mind of a madman.

Speaker 3 (01:13:46):
Oh, it was Brady when he retired.

Speaker 2 (01:13:48):
Forty four or something. But he's also an exception, not
the rule. Yeah, that's why he's a freaking matri No, yeah,
you're you're right.

Speaker 1 (01:13:54):
I understand.

Speaker 2 (01:13:55):
Like I said, Jonathan, you got to think unreasonably that
that a minute I'm in the room. It's like when
you're in the FBI and you're tracking down a serial killer.
You got to get in the mind of a madman.
That's really mean. And at least, Jonathan, for all the mistakes,
you know what I mean to me, this one over
here that was tell the truth. Now again, these are

(01:14:15):
harder to come up every week. So so you want
to take a week off when you give me one?
Uh no, give me notice you do something. No, you
do a lot of prep. So no you no, no, no, no, no, no,
this is I can do this at least once a week. Okay,
I just gonna start thinking he's a little bit more
ahead of time. Okay, but I you know, I do
believe the Chas McCormick's best days an astro are are
long gone. I don't think Aaron rodgers ego is going

(01:14:37):
to allow him to just say, yeah, it's been a
good run. And Caseario's just I think he's very proud
of his offensive line that he picked up in the
off season. I don't I don't think he's in any
center of super hurry to replace it right away. He
and maybe he does. While I'm saying he might do
it with the second round, guys, I don't think Stroud
might disagree. So by would you see how they bout
CJ and Steph Curry hanging out the game?

Speaker 1 (01:14:58):
Isn't CJ from California?

Speaker 2 (01:15:00):
Okay, I grew up, say I mean, I'm gonna run
around talk about Dallas Cowboys fans and stuff.

Speaker 1 (01:15:04):
I think he grew up with Steph Curry fan. I
think I think the Texans should trade Cjay Straw because
of his affinity for Steph Curry. Oh my gosh, we stop?
Can we please stop? People? Can we stop? I'm not
saying you, Matt, because I know you're kind of your trolling.
Can we stop not treating these people like human beings. Yes,
he's in Houston and he can switch his allegiance to
Houston only if he wants. He grew up with Steph

(01:15:25):
Curry fan. Steph Curry was I mean, what was one
of the greatest basketball players of all time? Who cares
if he's chopping it up with Steph Curry? Please? Does
he still throw out the hs though? That's all I
want to do, So that's all. That's what bun Bee
was throwing up when he made that first shot. He
didn't make it, didn't he?

Speaker 20 (01:15:41):
Yes?

Speaker 6 (01:15:41):
He did?

Speaker 14 (01:15:42):
All right? Uh?

Speaker 2 (01:15:43):
Chris and Troy hang tight, We'll get to you guys
coming up in the next timeount I promise you too,
are straight ahead hair on The Matt Thomas Show with
Ross seven to one three two one two five seven
ninety with a. We appreciate you spending your Monday with us.
Tomorrow Joe will Spottaby with us. So for a Tuesday visit,
we will uh get more into the NFL draft. Ross

(01:16:04):
is gonna find us an NFL draft guru expert.

Speaker 15 (01:16:08):
I have been.

Speaker 1 (01:16:09):
I asked you your one guest a year.

Speaker 3 (01:16:11):
That's it.

Speaker 1 (01:16:12):
Yeah, during their most busy week of the year.

Speaker 2 (01:16:14):
Look, we run ninety five promos for people. We can
at least find somebody. All right, I'll reach out to
some folks. I'm gonna say, I'm gonna send another tech.
I'mna sending you a text in an email back.

Speaker 1 (01:16:25):
I'll forget.

Speaker 4 (01:16:26):
I know.

Speaker 1 (01:16:26):
That's why I'm doing both. Thank you all right?

Speaker 2 (01:16:28):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety If
you want to jump into the conversation seven one three
two one two five seven ninety. In terms of longest
wait we go to let's say hello to uh.

Speaker 1 (01:16:42):
Well, the screen went away.

Speaker 2 (01:16:44):
You're right, No, Troy and Humble Online one on seventy Troy,
thank you for holding in. Good morning to you, good morning,
Thank you for picking my college.

Speaker 12 (01:16:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 14 (01:16:53):
Sure.

Speaker 18 (01:16:54):
What was so frustrating about the Rockets game last night
was step had a very good game. Jimmy Butler had
a very good game. You heard the ninety five points
that you lost that home. That was the most frustrated
part of that game. And I get it, it's a
first playoff for the Rockets of the Jitters, but you
just can't lose that game. You scored eighty five points

(01:17:15):
in a playoff.

Speaker 1 (01:17:16):
Game at home.

Speaker 18 (01:17:17):
That that still doesn't I still can't fathom that your
starting backcourt was was terrible like that. But they've had
games like this all season long. That's why you keep
hearing the look Rocks go trade for Devin Booker. The
person that could stop that would be Jalen Green. And
to have seven points, Jalen Green is so talented, nobody
should hold you the seven points in the game period.

(01:17:39):
I don't care who's playing against you. You mean tell
me Steph Curry. And I can't think the poor game
put Simsky or whatever his name and Moses movie. They
shutting you down.

Speaker 1 (01:17:48):
Those guys.

Speaker 2 (01:17:49):
It was just bad season against Golden Stake. I mean,
this is yesterday was on a one off. He's he's
had it.

Speaker 1 (01:17:56):
He has they played six times and he's had one
good game against him And says.

Speaker 18 (01:18:02):
Granted, but that's really that's still not a good thing, you.

Speaker 6 (01:18:05):
Know what I mean.

Speaker 2 (01:18:06):
I mean, yeah, I mean, no one's going wild. They're
overcoming that. I mean, I hope it's not a trend. Uh,
And it's got to be better. I mean, if if
the Rockets backcourt continues to perform like I did yesterday,
this will be a very short series.

Speaker 1 (01:18:19):
And they they're the first one that would tell you.

Speaker 18 (01:18:20):
That, absolutely absolutely, I mean everything else they remind The
Rockets remind me so much of the University of the
Cougar's is the same.

Speaker 1 (01:18:28):
That coach is pretty much the same.

Speaker 18 (01:18:30):
We're gonna play physical, we're gonna rebound, nobody gonna outpunk us,
but we're not a good shooting.

Speaker 5 (01:18:34):
Team like that.

Speaker 1 (01:18:35):
And the same thing for the Cougars.

Speaker 4 (01:18:36):
They play the same way.

Speaker 20 (01:18:38):
But in the playoffs, you have to have somebody that could.

Speaker 1 (01:18:41):
Get you a bucket.

Speaker 18 (01:18:41):
Singooon can get you a bucket down low, but you
got to have somebody to have six shots on the perimeter.
And pretty much for all season on, the Rockets have
been a portion team. And I'm just another question.

Speaker 20 (01:18:52):
I'm just kind of surprised that you have.

Speaker 18 (01:18:55):
I'm not saying Aaron Holiday is a savior, but he's
your best three quest shoot off the pitch for the
guard position.

Speaker 1 (01:19:02):
Cam Newton Camp said, Cam new forgive.

Speaker 18 (01:19:03):
Me lord, Cam Whitwall is a scoring threat off the bitch,
and Jeff Green has to playoff playoff experience, and he
could shoot three port. They can't get any minutes in
the game, and with your challenge for scoring, that was
kind of surprising me. But all said and done, we're
gonna win the next game. We're gonna go one and
one and one back to Golden State.

Speaker 2 (01:19:21):
All right, all right, thank you, sure, I appreciate the
positivity on that. And again, uh it was waffled the
entire backcourt, well for that matter of starting five not
named Alprin Shanguten cut in the broad side of a
barn three point shoot.

Speaker 1 (01:19:36):
I mean, the Rockets got nothing off their bench.

Speaker 2 (01:19:38):
They were within one of five from three off the
bench Lee when we went six or twenty nine from three.

Speaker 1 (01:19:45):
Overall, it was it was terrible. It was absolutely awful
to watch. But it shows you how what the fine
line is on this.

Speaker 2 (01:19:55):
As bad as they were, uh Ross it was a
one position game mid fourth quarter last night.

Speaker 1 (01:20:02):
Yes, So if you get something, say anything we stop
having to look for silver linings and everything in Houston
sports right now, it's called the Warriors.

Speaker 14 (01:20:12):
Ross.

Speaker 1 (01:20:13):
I got an idea win, knockdown some threes, went out
to say, Yeah, the Bats are gonna get better, Yeah, CJ.
Stroud's gonna bounce back. Yeah, the Rockets are gonna make
some threes. Just go out there and win, please, And.

Speaker 2 (01:20:30):
I didn't even mentioned the Cougars. Good, I'm not gonna.
I'm sick of the Warriors. I'm sick of I'm sick
of the Warriors. I hate the Warriors.

Speaker 1 (01:20:42):
I hate Draymond Green, I hate Steph Curry.

Speaker 2 (01:20:44):
I respect Jimmy Butler, but I just don't want to
watch him knock down any more tough shots against the Rockets.

Speaker 1 (01:20:49):
Those dorks in Boston doing the wave, by the way,
good and you guys struck out serve as you're right.
See you men have the waves everywhere. Boston's a good
baseball town.

Speaker 2 (01:21:00):
Well, first of there's not not not real fans there
today it's a day off of them, so it's it's fine, okay,
you dorks at Astro games still doing the wave.

Speaker 1 (01:21:10):
It was a three was it a three? Two game?

Speaker 3 (01:21:12):
On Friday night?

Speaker 1 (01:21:13):
Or something like that. One run game. It was a
one run game. Brian Bray was in the game. It
was an eighth inning.

Speaker 2 (01:21:19):
You should be engage, hanging on every pitch watching the game,
and people are.

Speaker 1 (01:21:23):
Doing the wave, doing the wave. They're doing it right
now in Boston. Chris on seven eleven fifty seven.

Speaker 21 (01:21:30):
Hello, Chris Brother, I'm calling from San Francisco and I
can't stand these Warriors.

Speaker 16 (01:21:36):
I hate.

Speaker 21 (01:21:38):
But I'm gonna give you the formula if you wanted
rockets only if you want it. Okay, you adopt the
facade of your head. Coach, Wow, mean tough guy. Tough guy,
y'all played soft last night. You forgot to use a
legal blind pick, which is a legal pick.

Speaker 14 (01:21:56):
You can knock the hell out of a lot of players.

Speaker 6 (01:21:59):
It's a legalis called a blind pick.

Speaker 21 (01:22:02):
You can dislodge Draymond Green from the game, and.

Speaker 14 (01:22:05):
Or Steph Curry. Double team Stephan.

Speaker 21 (01:22:08):
Don't let him let him run around, and you got
one guy chasing him, double team him. Take the ball
out of his head. Let someone else beat us instead
of standing. Oh Curry, he's so great man. You can't
let this guy run around the court like that. And
the Warriors when they we bring the ball across half court,
Podzinski and GP two, they take their hand and they

(01:22:32):
push and grab our ball when it comes across the court.
Officials not gonna call it. Don't worry about the officials.
Don't look for them to help us. We gotta get
tough and we're soft. Heart of a champion, I'm looking
for it. These guys are wine drinkers and cheese and
nippers out here. I give them hell by the believing.

(01:22:52):
I give them hell The rockets gotta step up or
go lay down somewhere.

Speaker 6 (01:22:57):
You gotta fight fire with fire.

Speaker 1 (01:22:58):
What do you think I want them to.

Speaker 2 (01:23:00):
Hit some jump shots, because let me tell you some
if you get into a screen war, the officials are
going to call fouls, a lot of them. Yeah, Steven
Adams was sending those blind screens that he was talking about.

Speaker 1 (01:23:12):
It was happening.

Speaker 2 (01:23:13):
Oh yeah, yeah, I'm not. This is a very good
pick and roll basketball team. I'm not worried about screens
not being enough, screens being set. All right, let's get
to the news at noon. You want to yes, And
then Girod's coming in. Oh man, you know great? We
should we just have him do the news at noon,
Ji could just break it all down so I can
do the last two hours of the show. Yeah, right,
so hour number three.

Speaker 1 (01:23:33):
We're going till two o'clock today on the Matt Tomas
Show with Ross seven one three two one two five
seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven
ninety we present to you as we.

Speaker 2 (01:23:44):
Do every day at twelve o four the News at
noon and they handling things the Steve Smith of sports
television journalism and ready for that matter, Ross feel the reality.
Thank you man, Oh appreciate you having me here on
the news at noon Sports Talk seven ninety. Of course,
the headline of the sports news here in Houston, Texas

(01:24:07):
Game one loss to the Golden State Warriors.

Speaker 1 (01:24:10):
Jimmy Butler between the rings has Shan Goud in front
of him. Shock Lock hits seven right elbow sixteen footer
for Butler has not been in double legit lead and
that will give Golden State a Game one victory. I
just like the between the rings when you say that
it's just such a radio basketball call. I don't know
why this makes me feel like he just like it,

(01:24:32):
but anyway, I spare my voice. By the way, what's
that you hear? The despair of my voice.

Speaker 2 (01:24:35):
Yeah, you don't seem too happy, And that's okay because
that was what you said. Is what I thought too,
is like, well, there's the dagger. This game's over. I
really thought they were gonna come back. Matt got down
by as much as twenty three, got it within one
possession in the fourth quarter on a night where they
were horrible from three. Six of twenty nine that's twenty
point seven percent. Eleven of twenty from the free throw line,

(01:24:57):
that's fifty five percent. I mean, if just one of
those numbers could have changed, you're talking about a completely
different game. But Steph Curry goes off for thirty one
points on twelve to nineteen shooting, Jimmy Butler with twenty
five points, seven rebounds, six assists, five steals.

Speaker 1 (01:25:15):
Rockets lose Game one to the Golden State Warriors. Very unfortunate.
Making Game two, oh, here we go, just win, making
Game two a very important. Of course, We've seen here
in Houston teams get down too and head on the
road and still win the series.

Speaker 2 (01:25:35):
So it has happened before. So you can call it
whatever you want. I'm gonna say it's a very important
game for the Rockets. They don't want to go on
the road, but they can beat this Warriors team even
four in a row, and then it's not where you
want to beat, but it can happens. A lot of
work to be done and a lot of shooting of
themselves out of the game last night. Still though they

(01:25:57):
were good on the offensive boards. Steven Adam was a
mad man. Albrin Shingoon was still good. I think he's
gonna thrive in this series as well. But game won
the loss for the Houston Rockets. Coach Udoka talking about
the big problems they had last night with the half
court offense.

Speaker 9 (01:26:13):
Alpe obviously was having a dominant game inside, and you
got some scoring.

Speaker 5 (01:26:16):
From your bench there in the third quarter, But what
did you think about the half court offensive creation in general?

Speaker 22 (01:26:22):
None of our best obviously only score eighty five. It's
not a great offensive night, and the numbers show that.
But I think it was six or twenty nine from
three to eleven, twenty from pree throw line, and seventeen
turnovers that gave up twenty five points. So not our
best offensive night by any means. Like I said, hold
somebody in ninety five, you'd expect to win if you
have a decent offensive night, and not only these shots,

(01:26:44):
but like I said, turnovers playing in the crowd. The
misses in the crowd are the same as turnovers basically,
so had our chances. Got it to four point game
with two thirty four I think, and gave up a
three there.

Speaker 1 (01:26:55):
But you know, guarded well enough to.

Speaker 2 (01:26:57):
Win, guarded well enough to win, did not play offensively
well enough to win, and.

Speaker 1 (01:27:02):
A lot of that going on in Houston, Matt.

Speaker 2 (01:27:04):
The Astros do win the series over the weekend against
the San Diego Padres, exploding for six runs on Friday,
just three runs on Saturday. But they got to win
just two runs on Sunday against the pause Fernando Tatis
with a big home run as the Padres beat the
Astros three to two.

Speaker 1 (01:27:24):
Good news is fromer was very good.

Speaker 2 (01:27:26):
Despite giving up the seven hits, it was just two
earned runs, three walks, a couple of strikeouts as well.
And the Astros now ten and eleven on the season.
They are just mediocre. And anyway you put it six
and six at home, ten and eleven on the season,
alternating wins and losses for fourteen games. Now we don't
have to do a really big standings watch, but two

(01:27:49):
and a half games behind the Rangers.

Speaker 1 (01:27:50):
It's really but nothing. That's nothing, but it'd be cool
if they could win some games. Hows Toronto.

Speaker 2 (01:27:58):
By the way, Blue Jays, they are twelve and ten.
They have have a negative run differential. That's good, I
think is it has.

Speaker 1 (01:28:09):
A is Jordan in town? Joey li berfdo I believe
is struggling in Buffalo? That's gonna happen. Last I looked.
I've never been in Buffalo, but I bet others have
struggled there before too. Okay, I'll take your word for it.

Speaker 2 (01:28:25):
Let's see who uh you want to your mound matchups
for this Toronto Blue Jays series.

Speaker 1 (01:28:30):
It's Hunter Brown versus Kevin Goussman, the former Cy Young winner.
He's having a good season so far with a two
point four nine ERA.

Speaker 2 (01:28:39):
And then it's Nale Blanco over old Astros nemesis Chris Bassett.
Astros have touched him up over the years, but also
he's had some good starts against them. And then it's
o Rian Gusto against Baden Francis from Tyla Hasse to Florida.
Of course, his name is Bowdninis from Tallahassee. That'll be
the third game of the series, rubber match, if you will.

(01:29:02):
That's a six forty start because it's on all night
games this week. Yeah, all night games and a six
forty start on Wednesday. Astro is welcoming the Blue Jays
into town. But good news is they won a series
against the best team in baseball. Yeah, and thank you
to following play some America League teams. They're very pleased
about that.

Speaker 1 (01:29:18):
Yes. Also, by the way, last night in the game,
Luis Ariez was in a collision with Mauricio Dubon at
first base.

Speaker 2 (01:29:26):
It was a very scary situation. But the latest is
Ariaz is back from the hospital. He was even in
the clubhouse at the end of the game. He should
be okay. I think it was he had a laceration
on his jawline, and they said they were also worried about.

Speaker 1 (01:29:42):
His cervical region. Ooh, that guy kind of like dark
the very last second. But everything clear apparently and stable
on initial testing. All right, Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:29:55):
Elsewhere on the news at noon, Matt, you got NBA
playoff action over the weekend. As you mentioned, you don't
think anybody's going to seven games We'll see what happens there.

Speaker 1 (01:30:03):
You gonna ask you this, if if I said that
none of em are going to seven, which one you
think is going to seven or which ones? So let
me look at the How about the Rockets and the Warriors? Okay, yeah,
that'd be That means it's in Houston, Texas. Mm hmm.
I could see the Clippers and Nuggets easily going seven.
That's a closely matched up by way Russell West series
played well for them that Russell West did. Yeah, Clippers

(01:30:25):
made a ridiculous three at the end of the game
to cover two and a half in that one. It
was counting.

Speaker 2 (01:30:31):
Very upsetting. But anyways, I don't think Nix Pistons is
going seven. I think Lakers, Timberwolves could. I think there's
three series I just laid out the potentially could go
seven games, Matt.

Speaker 1 (01:30:42):
Okay, one else will be right, whats to be wrong
and we'll see what happens. You congratulations of John Cena.
He's your new WW champion. No sure, why not?

Speaker 2 (01:30:51):
And the Pope Francis has passed and he'll be on
today's edition. Well, no, he will be, but the subject
of his life will be unbelieved.

Speaker 1 (01:30:57):
Or not I mean, okay, he went into the missionary
and then he was Pope. Believe it. I mean, there's
something else you want to go to.

Speaker 2 (01:31:05):
Boy, he was also in a motorcycle gang and he
liked bungee jumping John Cena, I believe it.

Speaker 1 (01:31:10):
Or he kept the pigeon coop. You could do, you
could do. Uh, look, I'm gonna I can make up
six things about the Pope. I mean I can do it. Well,
it's not that I'm not gonna hold you to Pope Francis.
Believe it or not, then your choice. We'll see. And
that was the news at noon.

Speaker 2 (01:31:24):
All right, Uh, if you miss any part of the
rocket scheme, I mean, a complete breakdown is coming up
in a matter of moments. It's fair to say it
is seven one three two one two five seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seven ninety. It
is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross twelve twenty Sports

(01:31:46):
Talk seven ninety. It is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross.

Speaker 1 (01:31:48):
Tamiko Ryans is speaking right now to the media first
day of texans OTA's Guess what He's feeling great about
the energy in the building, can't We're looking for guys
who want to play hard, play Texas football, play for
each other.

Speaker 2 (01:32:02):
Yes, it's warm mentality correct, all right, somebody's gonna work hard,
live for football. Those are the kinds. A lot of
good players in this draft, and I think we're gonna
have a good one. Yeah, unbelievably matched everything you just said.

Speaker 1 (01:32:18):
How about just win? I want wins. I didn't get
wins with my Cougars. I got my Rockets losing last
night because I can't hit three point shots. I want wins.
You got ten of them in a playoff. Wins, true,

(01:32:38):
all wins. I know some people thought they were gonna lose.
The Chargers were favored in that game. Texans took charge. Well,
as soon as the McNair sell, you'll get you're not
gonna sells run in things all quiet on the stadium front.
It's fine. Stadium runs, it operates, it's not dilapidated, has

(01:32:58):
not been condemned. You know, Hannah's going like, man, can
we find some things wrong with it? More things wrong
with it? Well we'll see.

Speaker 2 (01:33:08):
It really is going to be a back burner for
a while. But once it hits Ross, you bets be ready.

Speaker 1 (01:33:14):
You love stadium talk. I just love how people I
love because I've been there and done that.

Speaker 2 (01:33:18):
I've I've listened to the complete crap that owners tell
you about how they can't afford it and whatnot. If
anybody can afford it, it's the National Football leagy owners. Yes,
I mean the NBA is doing really really Wellbody wants
baseball is doing really well. They well, but NFL football
is doing it to epic proportions.

Speaker 3 (01:33:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:33:36):
The last people that should be crying poor is them, correct.

Speaker 2 (01:33:39):
All right, let's go to the phones and talk to
the great people of Houston, Texas. Seven one three two
one two five seven eight. I will actually read a
few Dimico's statements here, but first let me get my
phone ready. First, Ross seven one three two one two
five seven ninety seven to one three. Oh, I got
you two one two five seven nine zero. Let's talk
to our friend, uh Gerrod of the Matt Thomas showed

(01:34:02):
Ross Gerard, good afternoon to you.

Speaker 6 (01:34:04):
Good afternoon to you, Matt. How's it going, Ross?

Speaker 1 (01:34:08):
Going great?

Speaker 6 (01:34:09):
Yeah? Speaking of the Texans before break down this game,
Cal McNew was at the Rocket game last night, so
was c J. Stroud. So the Texans was definitely in
the house supporting the local team just came up a
little bit short. Now when I can't called you guys,
I think it was Friday kind of bringing this game down.
I kind of told you that Steven Adams was gonna
be an integral part of the game plan because he's
a veteran, He's been in a lot of big games.

(01:34:31):
He's a guy that gonna crash the crash the boards,
get offensive rebound, and this is where the Rockers do
have the advantage over Golden State as far as side though.
They got to pay to their strengths and try to
minimize their weakness. Now, the backcourt did not do anything
for the most part of this game. James Green was bad,
But you got to give a dope a lot of credit.
He saw that he was bad and he put him
on the bench for large stretches of this game. So

(01:34:52):
I think that's what you're gonna see in this series.
If he don't have it going offensively, Jayson Green, you
gotta put him on the bench because he's one of
those players when he ain't gone going on the offensive end. Yeah,
to fix his defense, you know, and that that s
shouldn't be like that because with his athleticism, he should
be above level defensive player. But time and time again, man,
when his offensive bad, he don't play the type of
defense that he normally plays when he's scoring. So again

(01:35:15):
he's got to, uh, you know, he's got to make shots,
because what Golden State's gonna do. They're gonna pack the pain.
They're gonna dare him, dare him to beat them from
the outside if he can. If he's not making shots
on a consistent basis, he's gonna struggle throughout this series.
So that you know, the time that he did get
to the rim, you know, with some contact, but they
didn't call that. So this this was a learning experience
for Jamen Green. You got to play through contract uh contact.

(01:35:38):
You're not gonna get those calls like you got in
the record season where you go to the basket in
any kind of contact, you going to the free throw line,
They're not gonna give you the type of calls. So
you got to go there and try to dunk everything
at the rim. That's my advice to h Jalen Green. Now,
as far as his back court running mate Van Fleet,
van Fleet ain't really been a saint since he came
off that ankle injury. Outside a game here and there,

(01:35:58):
he's really struggling with his shot and definitely gonna need
to get him going because I think a lot of
these games gon gonna be coase in the fourth quarter.
And I think the go to guys for the Rockets
got to be some Goon and Van Fleet in the
pick and roll. Those got to be your main go
to guys. And the comeback with gold to State gonna
bring to the table in the fourth quarter with Steph

(01:36:18):
Kirby and Jimmy Butler. Now, like I said when going
into the City, I do believe the winn of the
series is going to the Western Conference Finals to play
Oklahoma City. I think both of these teams are at
least level with the defensive teams. But the difference is
the Rockets sometimes come down there they don't really know
what they're what they want to do in certain situations.
Golden State seems to have more of a plan on

(01:36:39):
what they want to do. I think their offense is
probably a little bit more versatile than the Rockets offense,
and it seems to be that she used to be
the difference the veterans. Veterans on Golden State team and
their offense is a little bit more versatile. You know,
they run a little bit form of their pristal style
offense where they they run a lot of sets and
get a lot of backdose screens and they got step
coming up for multiple picks. Draymond Green don't get a

(01:37:00):
lot of credit for this, but he's a great for
a sitting peaks. Him and Steven Happens. You probably looking
at the two best guys as far as sitting screens
in this series as Steven Adams and uh and and
uh and my boy uh I guess his name, and
then in the center Draymond Green them probably two best
screens sellers. And what uh Steve Kruz gonna actually do
is he's gonna play the goon straight up. They don't

(01:37:20):
want a double sagon and give open looks to the
Rockets shooter, so they gonna tell Draymond to play them
straight up. If the Goon go off, he go off.
But they're not gonna leave their shooter. So they're gonna
need to go the goon to continue to put up numbers,
and they gonna need Jayden Green to come to the party. Man,
Jayden Green don't have a good series. The Rockets gonna
be in trouble man, because he's got to be a
guy that gives you something on a perima, either him
or Van Fleet. I'm and Van fee as much is

(01:37:42):
the guy I'm really looking at because he's been in
this situation before, won a championship with Toronto. That's the
guy I'm really looking at. But Van Jayalen Green's got
to step up to the place. So this is a
good series as far as getting a gauge on what
the Rockets gonna do here going fullard, maybe what the
Rockets might need next year. So I'm kind of glad
they're gonna get the experience either way, if they advanced
or even if they lose, we're gonna get a good
paramea to Okay, Rockets need to do this in the offseason.

(01:38:05):
They got a good team, they got a bright future.
They going in the right direction. But maybe they don't
have that guy that can hit a bucket in the
fourth quarter when your offense is getting staggered and he
can they can clear the floor, left them go one
on one and get a good shot for himself before
his teammate. Maybe they don't have that guy. Daden Green
could be that guy, but so far guy, so uh
good learning spirits. Gotta win Game two, play defense, go

(01:38:28):
with the big lineup, like I said going into this
series with Steven Adamson doing and Jabarsmith played well, and
your back court probably gotta be a mean Thompson and
Van Fleet. I know a lot of people say it's
not gonna be no enough offense, but it's office that
are dog gonna go with the guys that play defense
and the guy that at least gonna try to attempt
to be aggressive and take it to the basket and
look for their offense and play a play elite level

(01:38:49):
of defense. That's what he That's the line of people
don't go with. If you come push up, come come hell,
or come high water. He's gonna go with that lineup.
So again, look for the defense to be what like
it was and hopefully get bet up. Remember to play
not to be the key to victory for Game.

Speaker 2 (01:39:02):
Two coming up next to the A team here on
Sports Talk seven, Ari, thank you, Grod shows over, folks.

Speaker 1 (01:39:13):
Let me tell you something, Peel and the curtain back.
Holy smokes, that was an old. That's got to be
a record. This is five. Please call it. Please call
Guinness book of world records four fifty five.

Speaker 15 (01:39:27):
Good.

Speaker 1 (01:39:27):
Let me tell you I have been started after the greeting, Yeah,
I was, I never started to the greeting is done.
I have been.

Speaker 2 (01:39:37):
In broadcasting for since nineteen ninety one and on there
since nineteen ninety two, so we're looking at thirty three years, okay.
And I have have done speeches before, I've called play
by play, and I've also had to monologue during a
segment during a show.

Speaker 1 (01:39:57):
Uh huh.

Speaker 2 (01:40:01):
Four point fifty five with out of breath is flat
out remarkable. You should be a pearl diver. Let me
tell you about Gerard. First of all, I love his
passion for it.

Speaker 1 (01:40:13):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (01:40:13):
Secondly, when he goes scuba diving, he doesn't need oxygen.
I mean, I don't know what else I could. There
is absolutely nothing that could he could possibly add to
that conversation. I had a cigarette. I don't even smoke

(01:40:37):
fulled up shop.

Speaker 4 (01:40:40):
You know what.

Speaker 2 (01:40:40):
We all would take time off occasionally. I think Girod
just come in and just do the show like Gerrod.
Five segments, same, five rotating topics, rotate, repeat, show's done.
I think they could use him on the Senate floor
when they need a filibuster. I mean wex is actually

(01:41:02):
jealous of this guy. That's that's an that's an all timer.
That's a got to beat. That's an all timer.

Speaker 1 (01:41:10):
Right ashes game one of the playoffs, Uh imagine menage
of Game two is a must win. Rossie, Oh, well,
we can discuss seven one three two one two five
seven ninety seven one three if you want to, let
me ask you this, is there anything that that that
Girod said that you disagree with in at four fifty five.

(01:41:31):
I don't remember seven one three, two one two five
seven ninety. It's twelve thirty on Sports Talk seven.

Speaker 2 (01:41:37):
Ninety twelve thirty four Sports Talk seven ninety Mat and
Ross with you till two o'clock. We have believe it
or not today coming up at one fifty. It wasn't
gonna be on Pope Francis, but Ross believes it's too
full of knots to do that.

Speaker 1 (01:41:49):
So we'll leave it up to you whatever you want
to do, whatever is tickles your fancy. He was a
really good youth baseball player.

Speaker 2 (01:41:56):
Actually, Uh, both sides of the plane on a claim
is that the Vatican city record yeah for home runs.

Speaker 1 (01:42:05):
In the Little League. Hm hmm, straightaway center field was
only two seventy five though they called him the miracle man.

Speaker 23 (01:42:11):
They did.

Speaker 1 (01:42:12):
Yeah, no wonder he moved on to the to the
clergy all right.

Speaker 2 (01:42:15):
Seven one three two one two five seven nine zero
is how you reach a show if you want to
get in seven one three two one two five seven ninety.
Couple of things from uh Jonathan Alexander, who covers the
Texans for The Chronicle. These are quotes coming off of
his Twitter account. Demiko Ryan's Ota Spigan to day said

(01:42:36):
that it's an energy lifter being in the building on
the first day seeing some old and some new faces.
That sunds about right right, Okay, Okay, nothing crazy there,
Demiko says. At this point, the culture is set. They
have players who have been with the franchise for three
years who established the culture and teach it of the
newer players.

Speaker 1 (01:42:54):
Wonderful, Okay, culture establishment is That's why I learned Tounsil's gone.
What is the culture right now?

Speaker 2 (01:43:02):
The culture is supposed to be playing for one another
and team first, not me first. Maybe you feel like
Larrman Tensil fit that bill. It doesn't seem like to me.

Speaker 1 (01:43:11):
Are there thirty two teams that are practicing in OTA's
this week, if they have bad culture today, I mean,
if you have bad culture right now in April, not
seeing the Texans do. But I think I would assume
that everybody is saying the culture in their building is really.

Speaker 2 (01:43:23):
I think culture is real. I think it is a
real thing. I think we've seen it with the Rockets.
I think we've seen it with the Astros, and I
think you're seeing it with the Texans. That there can
be a culture of either a complacency or things. I
think you see it in college football as well all
the time.

Speaker 20 (01:43:37):
Right.

Speaker 2 (01:43:38):
I think to Tom Herman put Tom Herman, culture and
the Steve's are keys in culture.

Speaker 1 (01:43:42):
Way different for the Texas Longhorns.

Speaker 2 (01:43:44):
Yeah, never being happy and just settling on the message
that he told his team today, quote, be where your
feet are, let's be connected, let's talk to our teammates,
Let's not be on our cell phones. Heads down, Let's
have lunch with each other.

Speaker 12 (01:43:56):
You know what.

Speaker 1 (01:43:57):
That's a message to be should for every child to
the age of twenty in America today. Yeah, man, let's
have lunch with each other. No, I don't. I'm talking
about my children, not you.

Speaker 2 (01:44:06):
Oh uh, as concerning the draft, and Miko says, quote,
we won't pass up a top player on our board
just because we have a need a certain position. See,
we have a broad view of how we want to
enhance our team. If it's a position, if it's a position,
there a player that can change our team, we're going
to take that guy.

Speaker 1 (01:44:24):
Well, I would assume.

Speaker 2 (01:44:25):
So, I mean, yeah, these are nothing overly profound in
that they're not going to draft on need. They're going
to draft best player available, except for quarterback. That would
be something though.

Speaker 1 (01:44:36):
That's not gonna happen. No, I'd be shocked. Well, and
then after the first round, I should say after that, honestly,
you shouldn't be shocked.

Speaker 2 (01:44:43):
What is Davis Mills contract status? He was a demico
first year, not a demiico, he was a last year. Yeah,
you know, these backup quarterbacks are making five six million
dollars a year, some of them more. I mean, it's
the greatest insurance policy in sports today, because even if
you're a left handed reliever ross, you still have to

(01:45:04):
go pitch, you still have to go get outs, and
you still are leaving yourself up susceptible to potential injury.

Speaker 1 (01:45:09):
Tommy john elbow injury, forearm injury.

Speaker 2 (01:45:12):
Your backup quarterback, as long as your quarterback is in
front of you, is decent and upright.

Speaker 1 (01:45:16):
You're playing justin fields on a two year, forty million
dollar contract, isn't what's Russell Wilson getting paid? Aren't they
paying him decent money? And what's his name? The thirty
for thirty U Jameis Winston.

Speaker 2 (01:45:33):
Yeah, well, I mean Kirk Cousins made good money to
eventually be a backup to Michael Pennocks in Atlanta. Just
have some assemblance of some sort of career and you're
gonna make a lot of money.

Speaker 1 (01:45:47):
You know what it is?

Speaker 2 (01:45:48):
Being a quarterback in the NFL is like being a
one hit wonder. You can have one or two hits
as a performer and then go run around at casinos
across this country and make money backup quarterback.

Speaker 1 (01:46:00):
You throw for one three hundred yard game in your
NFL career, you're set for the next five or six
year You don't even need that some of them. Yeah,
by the way, Jameis Winston's only making four million, so
I thought it was more than that, But.

Speaker 2 (01:46:11):
I mean that's still a pretty good jump to change
for not to actively ever step on the field unless
you're in mop up duty or because somebody needs a break. Now,
if you and the question is, how much do you
want to spend on a backup quarterback in case your
number one guy gets hurt? And how far of drop
off is it between one and two CJ to Davis Mills.
Is a significant drop off?

Speaker 1 (01:46:32):
Yes? And CJ knows that right, and Davis knows that correct. No,
Davis thinks he's ready for his time to shine. It's
been working hard.

Speaker 2 (01:46:41):
If we went to lunch, you're talking about going to
lunch with people. We went to lunch with Davis Mills
right now. Do you think he's thinking, Man, I got
to get out of here and get myself by mojo
back because I was a starting quarterback at one point
in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (01:46:52):
Or do you think you know what?

Speaker 2 (01:46:54):
You think you'll wear a turtleneck? Do you think well
man without going without saying, or do you think he's thinking, Look,
I know my name, my egg. My brain cells are
not scrambled up. I'm able to walk and talk and
chew gum at the same time. Yes, I've made a
pretty good chunk of change. Yes, And I don't have
the wear and tear that most NFL quarterbacks go through.
I'm pretty blessed.

Speaker 1 (01:47:15):
I think Davis Mills living a good life. I think
he knows that. I think that he thinks that can
help the team win. If CJ. Stroud gets hurt, if
he doesn't believe that he shouldn't be on an NFL.

Speaker 2 (01:47:24):
Ross, I know I don't disagree with that, but I'm
just how much in the is the inner burning of
I want to go start one more time?

Speaker 1 (01:47:33):
Or do quarterbacks? And this is MA I guess would
be a better question for Sean Salisbury. Do you then go?

Speaker 16 (01:47:38):
You know what?

Speaker 1 (01:47:38):
I know who I am.

Speaker 2 (01:47:41):
I've got a nice comfortable spot as a backup. I
just know that if they need me for a couple
of series here or a game there, I can help.
But the reality is I'm maybe not a seventeen game
starter in the Nationals. I think, Yeah, at some point,
I don't know if he's accepted reality, but everybody at
some point in their life, and you're unless you're the
greatest of all time, at something I have to accept
the reality that somebody out there is better than you.

Speaker 1 (01:48:03):
I realize that all the time tended to Yeah, I
know I know you do. That's what I'm here for. Matt.

Speaker 2 (01:48:09):
Yeah, it's like, I'm I'm in tenth grade on the
football team. I'm like, I think I've hit my limit.
I am getting crushed every day in practice and it
was one hundred and four degrees out here.

Speaker 1 (01:48:18):
It's time to switch to tennis. And that's what I did. Like,
I don't think I'm going to make the NFS part. Yeah,
you know, I hit for track? Is that what happened?

Speaker 2 (01:48:28):
You're like, you know what, these guys are faster than me.
You you hit it point and you're, oh, that's where
you switched the track from football. You're like, this is terrible.
Middle school was rough. Yeah, you went from middle school
football to track and field. Yes, because you could run,
you just couldn't catch.

Speaker 1 (01:48:43):
No, Exactly. I play safety, so I could. Yeah. You
just you find it out. So Davis Mills, at some point,
I would imagine it's going to accept the reality I
am not a starting quarterback in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (01:48:55):
Oh, I'm sure he's had that reality in his head
for a couple of years now, maybe in the back
of it.

Speaker 1 (01:49:00):
And he's convincing himself he can still do it. Who
knows That's what I'm saying. I mean, what, at what
point do you go?

Speaker 2 (01:49:04):
You know what, I think I can do it, but
I'm making a real nice living and I am able
to walk and not use a cane.

Speaker 1 (01:49:12):
There's something to be said for that. Look at case Kenan.

Speaker 2 (01:49:14):
You think Case Case keenu is Now, what is it
he went to backup somewhere in the Midwest that he
goes back to the Bears, the Iowa Barnstormers. No, no, no,
it was somebody in the NFL. But he's in the
same spot. He's like, yeah, I can't guess I could
start a couple of games here and there, but I'd
rather just move around from team to team to team
and make a lot of money. Yeah I didn't colle
McCoy hang him up last year. Yeah he was a
Chase Daniel made up fifteen year NFL. Well, I mean

(01:49:40):
there's something to be said for that, having just enough
athletic ability to do it, but yet know that you
just can't do it week in and week out. And
let's see j Stroutware all you know where you know now? Granted,
the difference between starting quarterback money to backup is is sight.

Speaker 1 (01:50:00):
But yeah, I mean CJ. Strott.

Speaker 2 (01:50:04):
Look, have you seen this offensive line? He can go
down and you might need Davis Mills for a couple
of games, and he's capable. You can win games with
Davis Mills.

Speaker 1 (01:50:11):
Are we going to spend all year talking about that
offensive line again? Aren't we? I think so.

Speaker 2 (01:50:16):
Because two years ago we felt great about it, even
though we did a last year, I felt pretty good, right.

Speaker 1 (01:50:22):
Right, right right? Yeah, but Jack Mason took a step back,
you had some injuries.

Speaker 2 (01:50:27):
The thing that's hard, the hardest for people to comprehend,
and I get it, especially on the outside, is that
you had a poorest offensive line, your worst offensive line,
uh maybe since the early Texans days and certainly one
of the five wars in the NFL this past year,
and you got rid of your best guy.

Speaker 1 (01:50:45):
That's culture. That's an if then statement that typically doesn't
make sense. Now, you know, I've not been the biggest
larming to you know, you hate him. I didn't hate him.
I just think it was vastly overrated, not a team guy.
But sure of that he was great. So he wasn't
and that's why he's gone. Yeah, but you can know
all that team and culture and swarm and play for
you and play for us. But I don't matter when
Miles Garrett's lined up on the other side. That's what

(01:51:05):
I'm worried about.

Speaker 3 (01:51:06):
Do you think is like?

Speaker 13 (01:51:08):
Is this like?

Speaker 3 (01:51:09):
Do he text? Is this real?

Speaker 2 (01:51:10):
Does this really happens? Not that bad, It's not like
the Luca trade. He texts over to uh, Damiico, walk
me through this.

Speaker 1 (01:51:18):
Yeah, maybe I think he knew. I think he knows.
I think CJ. Shroud is absolutely bought in and a big,
big part of somebody as somebody who fosters this culture
of everybody playing for each other. Yeah, and part of
it too, is I think he knows is that he knew.

Speaker 2 (01:51:33):
He had people on the defensive side of the had
to get paid, and that he knows at some point
he has to get paid.

Speaker 1 (01:51:39):
Yep. So when in doubt, in CJ's mind, he's probably
going just give me a decent offensive line to keep
me up right.

Speaker 2 (01:51:50):
I don't need I don't need five seconds of protection.
I'm elusive, I can do some things. I can move
around in the pocket. I've done it before. I haven't
had a great offensive line ever. Just keep me upright
and well, importantly, get me paid in a couple of years,
because his time's coming pretty soon.

Speaker 1 (01:52:03):
It really is.

Speaker 2 (01:52:05):
Twelve forty four. Sports Talk seven on eight is the
Matt Thomas Show with Ross. Rockets falling last night to
game Golden State in Game one at the NBA Western
Conference First Round Series. The Astros fall to the San
Diego Padres. That's on the topic of the conversation. If
you want to jump in seven one three, two, one
two five seven nine zero, All right.

Speaker 1 (01:52:28):
Twelve fifty one on The Matt Thomas Show with Ross.
We are taking this program until two o'clock today.

Speaker 2 (01:52:36):
So the building was full last night. There weren't a
whole lot of Steph Curry fans out there. There were
a few, quite. I mean, look, every team's gonna have
other teams, and STEP's one of the is the greatest
jump shooter of all time and very popular. And Golden
States won a bunch of championships, so I would be
naive not to think that there weren't going to be
a fair number of Golden State jerseys in the building.

(01:52:57):
But I thought, relatively speaking compared to previous year, that
if you went to the Rockets game, you did your job,
You were loud, you were rooting, for the right basketball team.
You had the good vibe going and then unfortunately you
just had a big problem with the second quarter in
how Golden State pulled away after outscoring the Rockets twenty
nine to thirteen. I want to ask this question to

(01:53:22):
those of you that I would you would consider yourselves
to be fringe NBA or fringe Rocket fans. And this
was what I was somewhat afraid of. And I hope
that you guys are smarter than what I'm about to describe,
But sports fans can be finicking. Did I grab some

(01:53:46):
of you and then lose you because of the game
one loss? Now, if you're a Rocket fan, through and
through you, yesterday was not a shock. It was not
a It was on an up set. Golden State is
a team that has been there, done that, a team

(01:54:06):
of plenty of a playoff experience, and they're not acting
like a seven seeded team. But there are quite a
few people that don't necessarily gravitate towards the NBA until
it comes postseason time, and I understand that. My question
I wanted to throw out there was if this was
your first impression, your first glimpse of a Rocket team

(01:54:29):
in a while did you go up same old Rockets
or did you go you know what? I know last
night was bad, but there was a nice vibe in
the building. The crowd looked like they're engaged. It's nice
at playoff basketball again. What I'm afraid of Ross is
is that we got a fringe group of people out there. Look,

(01:54:51):
we're not a great NBA city, which is not It's
gonna have to take a championship for that to happen.
And just like just like the Astros, like we were
not a great baseball town in twenty thirteen, we just weren't.

Speaker 1 (01:55:00):
We weren't in Houston.

Speaker 12 (01:55:01):
No.

Speaker 2 (01:55:02):
I mean, ultimately, when you become great in anything, it's
because your team has had some sort of championship express success.
The reason why the Dodgers are better than the Angels
in Los Angeles just because the Dodgers have won a
World Series.

Speaker 1 (01:55:16):
Yeah, Yankees, Mats, I mean, I mean.

Speaker 2 (01:55:21):
The bull The Bulls were made Chicago basketball town for
the longest time because the Bulls had Michael John winning
almost championship. Championships breed what you are as a town.
I've never been to a sports city in my life.
To go man, the New England Patriots have won three
Super Bowls, but they're not real big on them. Usually
takes winning to get to these things. My point is

(01:55:42):
is that I I'm afraid that the fringe got in
last night. Watched it as they were settling in and
were like, I can't shoot, can't make the three, turn
the ball over, same old.

Speaker 1 (01:55:56):
Rock as around. I'm afraid some of that crept in.
Well it might have, but that's on this team. You
gotta play better, you gotta knock down threes.

Speaker 2 (01:56:04):
I mean, it's they they what was their problem last
night was a lot of what has been their problem
this year, and that is the three point shooting, that
is the free throw shooting, and it is the lack
of offense. It's exactly, I mean, it kind of is
what we saw from this. They played great defense, they
played really well, and they cross the offensive boards.

Speaker 1 (01:56:23):
They couldn't shoot, they couldn't hit a lick. Fred van
Vliet went two for thirteen from three. We've seen that before.
I've seen that all season long.

Speaker 2 (01:56:30):
So I mean, I don't think that was some kind
of gross misrepresentation of who the astro, I mean, who
the Rockets are.

Speaker 1 (01:56:37):
I would just like to have.

Speaker 2 (01:56:40):
More of an NBA buzz, and I just felt like
there was a group of people last night that probably
had just checked in for the first seven a.

Speaker 1 (01:56:45):
While and said, yeah, I know they are. Yeah, well
don't and changed.

Speaker 2 (01:56:50):
Yeah, that's what you change. You have You have to
win those games. You have to be different than what
people get, what you think the perception is. You got
to be better than the Peru. Yeah, don't talk about
how your disrespected and the Warriors and by their favorite
season prize and Rockets gonna get this done.

Speaker 1 (01:57:02):
The crowd was there, The crowd showed up, the crowd
was energetic. Everybody they did their part, and the Rockets didn't.
Fred Van Vlaeton, Tarry Easton and Jalen Green they did.
Alprinching Goon did his part, Steven Adams did his part,
and from there it was just a lot of question
marks and or bad performances.

Speaker 2 (01:57:24):
I hope that the learning curve between game one and
game two of a playoff is significant. From man Thompson,
for Jabari Smith, even for Opprinching Gun, I can't imagine.
I can't well, but but he Mays coached twenty five playoffs.
Yeah he has, But I mean, I don't know where
he thinks offense is gonna come from. And I'm not

(01:57:45):
saying he doesn't know what he's doing, but I think
the leash, I think the leash on Fred and Jalen
will be significantly shorter on Wednesday night.

Speaker 1 (01:57:52):
It was not an accident that they went on the
bad scoring spell they did with the lineup that they
had out there, not a ball handlers and shooters. Yeah,
but that's also kind of the raws that's out there.
So I mean, it's not like Steven Adams all of
a sudden he would come Nikola jokicch just that's not
gonna work. Yeah, I mean, he gets you offensive rebounds, Yeah,
he facilitates, he sets picks, he does the screening, all
that good stuff. But the negative about Stephen being out

(01:58:16):
there is you just you don't He's not considered an
offensive threat, and for the right reason, right because that's
not who he is. There is a role for him,
and by the way, he played amazing last night in
terms of keeping balls alive and doing something that the
Astros or the Rockets have done all season long, and
that is keep possessions alive with their offensive rebounding and

(01:58:38):
if you get an off night shooting like Jenlen and
Fred had. You need more Knights like Steven Adams, but
at some point you got to knock the shots down.
Wide open, looks wide open, looks man.

Speaker 2 (01:58:53):
All right, let's get this final hour the show started.
We'll start with the Yankees. Keith, how do use rockets?

Speaker 4 (01:58:59):
Keep too?

Speaker 1 (01:59:00):
Is he rockets?

Speaker 4 (01:59:00):
Keith?

Speaker 1 (01:59:01):
And Texans Keiths? Get confused of what keithy is these days?
It's fine. It is very confusing, Yeah, believe it or not?
Coming up in fifty five minutes. What is topic? I
don't know. The topic is where is my lunch?

Speaker 12 (01:59:14):
What you have?

Speaker 20 (01:59:15):
You?

Speaker 1 (01:59:15):
What are you gonna have? I just lost. I don't
want to talk about it.

Speaker 2 (01:59:18):
All right, Sam's fair seven one three, two? Orders to
the wrong place? I guess there's two. There's two cafes
next door, right next to each other, and I ordered
from the wrong one and they're not picking up the phone.

Speaker 1 (01:59:27):
So I'm just out, like twenty five bucks.

Speaker 2 (01:59:28):
You Now here's a problem. No, there's a problem that
you've got what they don't know own by the same
group either, are.

Speaker 1 (01:59:34):
They No, they have the same name and they have
basically the close to identical address. I'm stupid you want
a hug? No, all right, it is a group chat Monday.
Ross and I are in a group chat within our
own offices. If you're new to the show, you're saying,
what is a group chat Monday? That's where you send
us your group chats. Yeah, I guess you.

Speaker 2 (01:59:56):
You don't have to tell us exactly what's in it,
but you can give us the general subject. My group
chat today involving referee officiating game last night, which I
thought was a non issue. Fake members of the media
bragging about how hard they work. Okay, Oh, the delicious

(02:00:16):
salmon and brisket that was served at the media meal
at the Tota Center last night.

Speaker 1 (02:00:21):
That was from salmon and brisket. Yeah, salmon and brisket.
I'm not a big salmon guy. A matter of fact,
I'm not anti salmon. I will eat salmon, but I
like smoked salmon. I don't like.

Speaker 2 (02:00:32):
And I don't like to taste of salmon in general. Yeah,
for the most part, it's got a tastes like you know,
when they put it on cedar planks, it's like, yeah,
let's eat some wood. It's it's it's got a I'm
not a beaver it's pungent. To bad term on that pungent. Okay, yeah,
I'm just going with that kind of fishy gaming fish
is the only food. When you describe it as it is,

(02:00:53):
it's a bad thing. Oh, this fish is too fishy.
It's fish except file fish.

Speaker 3 (02:01:00):
Miss you.

Speaker 5 (02:01:00):
I just had an argument with my mother, Okay, I didn't.
I was telling her, what does it mean? It's too
fishy as fish, and she had that she was grilling
me in. Yeah, but I understand when it's too fishy.
It's just like real quick catfish fish catfish, yes or no?
I like it every fish the most part. Yeah, you
find is delicious.

Speaker 1 (02:01:18):
Yeah, finder's good. I don't need the I have no
thank you. May give me a fly on the way home.
All right.

Speaker 12 (02:01:25):
Good.

Speaker 1 (02:01:25):
Now you're hungry, Yeah, but I'm gon buy you some fish. No,
I'm upset. I'm hungry right now. I'm upset at myself.
I don't want to talk about it. Tired. I've been
working all these games and working at night too. It's fine,
and you get to hang out with me for four hours. Yeah,
I mean, I'm like, I'm like, your life is, I'm
your sabbatical. I complain, but life is good man, Yeah,

(02:01:46):
it's good.

Speaker 6 (02:01:46):
Hey.

Speaker 2 (02:01:47):
We want you to be a part of a show
here today. We are with you till two o'clock. We
have Believe it or Not coming up in forty five
minutes from now. Seven one three two one two five
seven ninety if you want to join our conversation seven
one three two one two five seven nine zero. Game
two of the Western Quarterfinals first round series is Wednesday.
Astros open up a series with Toronto tonight. We'll have

(02:02:08):
it for you with the on Deck show at six o'clock.
First pitch will be at seven to ten.

Speaker 1 (02:02:12):
Uh. Joe Spott will be with us tomorrow on the
radio program. We've got cut Feelings as well tomorrow as well,
and NFL rewind the return of NFER we won. Mm hmm,
can't wait. Should be good. We've got a We're got
a powerpack show later on this week. We're going to
an NFL draft analyst on maybe tomorrow. Maybe we'll Sadnesday,

(02:02:33):
possibly Thursdays are possibility. I don't know. I got a
lot going on right now.

Speaker 2 (02:02:38):
Check it out during the game, Okay, seven one three
two one two five seven. Donnie Keith is with us
at one six Key thanks for holding in. Good afternoon, Hey,
good afternoon.

Speaker 1 (02:02:49):
How are y'all doing good?

Speaker 16 (02:02:53):
Okay, so last night, but we only use like a
little portion of our events. We use adds, we use
uh Jabari, and we used tarr what happens to holidays?
Holiday is our best shooting three pointer a three point shooter. Also,
even a Whittmore can make three Why why didn't? I mean, well,

(02:03:14):
I know, just the first game. So I'm hoping that
during the series they're gonna get some play. If Jalen
can't shooting at Jalen keeps running into the brick walls
over and over again and not getting files, they need
to pull his ass out and and and uh fan
fleet if he can't, If he can't shoot like he

(02:03:36):
what was he like for for twenty last night? You
need to pull his ass out too.

Speaker 2 (02:03:43):
Okay, I'm just gonna be brutally honest with you for
a second, Keith. If Van Vliet and Green aren't successful,
the Whitmore Holiday Combo in your own definition, not mine,
will not overtake the Golden State Warriors.

Speaker 1 (02:04:02):
You have to get Jalen Green.

Speaker 2 (02:04:03):
And Fred VanVleet vested in successful in this series. If
they're not successful. Simply replacing them will not be good enough.
The Rockets will not win a playoff series, whether it's
Golden State or anybody else, unless those two gentlemen are
key contributors.

Speaker 1 (02:04:18):
That's just the flat out truth. And you're speechless. He said,
I'm done, Thank you, Keith.

Speaker 2 (02:04:33):
I don't think I think as a safe bet, we're
not gonna see Cam Whitmore, at least not in garbage
time non garbage time minutes, unless it's just a complete
desperation move. Aaron Holliday, I could see, but it's very
clear to me that Emiodoka is going with guys that
he can trust, especially on the defensive end. He is
a defensive coach. That's why you're only bench players right now.

(02:04:54):
Jabari's been junior Tar east and Stephen Adams.

Speaker 1 (02:04:56):
Let me tell you something.

Speaker 2 (02:04:57):
The Houston Rockets are proud of their ninety five points
all last night. HM coach Udoka thinks he can win
with the guys he put on the floor last night,
and he's right. They have to play better. Jalen Green's
got to be more aggressive. He's got to not go
over from three. Same thing for Tary Easton. You get

(02:05:17):
hot from three, and we're talking about a completely different game. Well,
I would even I would even take mid from three.
I mean they were six of twenty nine. If I
get that the thirty five thirty six percent and turn
and turn, take the turnovers down from say seventeen to
where they normally are about eleven or twelve ross, that's
a difference maker. And the reality is I can't use
a free throw line to my advantage. They are who

(02:05:39):
they are. They cut and they're not gonna They can't
go fifty five percent. You can't go oh for four
if you're men Thompson. That has to improve. And we
keep saying six of twenty nine is correct. That's what
they ended up with. A Couple of those are made
when the game was over. They went into the fourth
quarter three for twenty one. Yeah, three for twenty one
in an NBA game. You can't do that in the playoffs.

(02:06:01):
This again, I'm gonna bring up to the point I
brought to Keith a second ago before he lost this
guy Extu or whatever. This isn't about benching. This is
about who got you at fifty two wins. And say
what you will about Fred's three point percentage this year
which is down previous year. I think it's one of
his lowest ever in his career. They trust Freda with
the basketball in the hand to run the offense. The

(02:06:24):
offense got in a log jam yesterday. The offense did
not move with the fluidity that it has moved so
much of the time over the course of the year.
And it's up to the Rockets coaching staff to make
those adjustments to make sure that happens. Ultimately, Jalen Green's
going to have to shoot better ultimately, Ross I don't
know if Fred van Vliet should be taking nineteen shots

(02:06:44):
in a basketball game, but remember those were open looks,
and coaches, no matter if it's Emaadoka, whether it's Red Auback,
may he rest in peace, they're going to tell their players,
if you are open, take the shot, yeah, and you
have to operate. And most of them miss shots yesterday
by both those gentlemen, maybe more so than Fred than

(02:07:06):
it was on Jalen weren't largely with not a hand
in the face. Very few contested three point looks.

Speaker 1 (02:07:14):
Mm hmm.

Speaker 2 (02:07:16):
There was one that Fred van Vliet was thrown up
like a heat check. It was weird and they didn't
go in But other than that, yeah, most of it
was most everything was in the rhythm of the offense.
Because I mean, put it this way, I can't imagine
now it could happened. But I'm gonna say I can't.
I can't imagine your starting backgard going seven for thirty four. Again,

(02:07:38):
it may not, it may not be fluid, it may
not be fluid fifty four percent to the two of them,
But Ross, I can't imagine seven for thirty four and
two of seventeen from three in back to back games,
or for that matter, a second time in the series.

Speaker 1 (02:07:51):
They're gonna be better, gonna have to be. They're gonna
be better.

Speaker 2 (02:07:54):
It's gonna be a short trip. They're gonna be better,
and it was short. You know what's gonna be talked
about a lot. Just win, baby, Let's go. And I
somebody brought asked me this off air, He said, what

(02:08:15):
do you think about that certain player in Phoenix? I said,
you know what, my guess is, everybody that's gonna have
the capital, either through players, money or draft picks, is
going to kick the tires under aam That'd be foolish
not to do that. Do I think there is an
affinity for the Rockets and Kevin Durant. Yeah, but I
also don't believe it's such a strong affinity that if

(02:08:36):
this team was to win a playoff series or at
least make this thing a seven game set, or at
least show signs that you know what, you're just really
close with the core that you're hair there, that it
would not be a organing on the phone as soon
as we humanly can to talk to Phoenix. But I'll
say this, if they go out in four and those

(02:08:57):
two guys don't come through and the backcourd does struggle
from a shooting perspective, then that that's going to be
a hard conversation not to at least have a more
deeper visit among Rockets front office personnel.

Speaker 1 (02:09:11):
Because you are who you are playoff wise. It just
it is what it is. Man.

Speaker 2 (02:09:16):
It's not fair because Jalen's only been in one of them,
but you've got a lot of money coming his way.
He had a much better regular season. He showed signs
of being way more consistent than he was inconsistent, which
is something that plagued him early in his career. But
if you fail in the playoffs, that goes in your resume.

(02:09:36):
Go ask James Earn about that. For the most part
of his NBA career. For as great as things that
James has done offensively, when you think about James Harden,
you think of what is the phrase you hear all
the time, playoff James Harden, and he hasn't been able
to avoid that because he's not been able to get
over the hump and be the kind of score and
leader and have a productivity like he's had for nine

(02:09:59):
to nine percent his regular season career. I mean, seriously,
you into a room and said, let's debate Kevin Durant.
You could clearly go either way on this. I would
rather not. He's just too old now. I do think
his best days are behind him. I think he hurt
you defensively.

Speaker 1 (02:10:20):
He turned to this way too much. But he it
would be automatically immediately your second best score, if not
your best, but for how long? Yeah, I don't know. Whatever.

Speaker 2 (02:10:30):
Look, if it happened, I'm not saying it's like a
horrible move. I'd be excited. But it also depends on
what you have to give up.

Speaker 1 (02:10:37):
One fourteen Sports Talk seven ninety It is the Matt
Thomas Show with Ross seven one three two one two
five seven ninety seven one three two one two five
seven NINTI believe it or not? Coming up in thirty
five minutes right here on seven ninety seven one three
two one two five seven ninety you upset about Paul
Hayman's heel turn during a WrestleMania night one, ROSSI, I

(02:10:58):
haven't been able to sleep. I'm just shot. Didn't you
predict that?

Speaker 13 (02:11:03):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (02:11:03):
Yeah, of course that was a no brainer. Oh okay,
I think I'm gonna quit the business and go become
a WWE writer. I think I can write pretty good stuff.
That's fine. I mean, yeah, you're entertaining twelve year olds.
Can't be that difficult.

Speaker 16 (02:11:16):
Hey.

Speaker 2 (02:11:17):
They had sixty one thousand back to back nights at
a Legion Stadium in Las Vegas. That event made sixty
million dollars probably for WWE by.

Speaker 1 (02:11:27):
Itself that night. Wow, it's incredible. I just don't get it.

Speaker 2 (02:11:30):
And Clinton didn't pay any tickets. He sat in the
press box, and of course he was eight miles away
from the site.

Speaker 4 (02:11:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:11:36):
I think we packed his telescope correct a little bit,
a little bit of a cheap skate there, But that's fine.
That was Matt Thomas saying that not me, You were
faking it though, No, I wasn't. Okay, that wasn't really
that concerned. I forgot that he was at wrestling. He's
like shooting photo like you can't even you literally can't
see the ring. They're like like a little lance.

Speaker 2 (02:11:58):
Step up your game, Clinton, you make a lot of money,
Gordon knows, probably too much for this company.

Speaker 1 (02:12:03):
Hm hmm.

Speaker 2 (02:12:04):
Step up your game and actually goes get down closing
and see the event. I paid good money to see
one of these pictures Instagra. Okay, let me find him
at Adam Clinton on inst go.

Speaker 1 (02:12:16):
Look how far he is he can't see a jack
squad man if mention me going to the Final four
to see my Cougars lose to Florida and being that
far away from it. At least I was closing up
close to see the final fifteen seconds.

Speaker 2 (02:12:27):
You're gonna brag about being close to watching choke in
the chances getting strong of a turn ROSSI.

Speaker 1 (02:12:32):
But it also is accurate. I don't be very questionable officiating, Oh.

Speaker 2 (02:12:39):
Questionable Officiatinguel sharps and watch the ball his hang out
at his feet.

Speaker 1 (02:12:45):
That's got to be really tough. Sorry, Matt, Yeah, it's fine.
Oh it's next year. There is next year. Team's gonna
be stacked. Yeah, top five, preseason number one and the regional.
I think it's going to be here in Houston next.

Speaker 2 (02:13:01):
Year because of the breaking news that the Cooper flag
is now declared. Yeah, huge breaking news. It was not
a surprise, right, And you've seen and I always felt
like I argued, not argue the baby is Cooper Flag.
Just a guy, really good guy, superstar, think, really good player, superstar.
The thing is he's young, he is a baby. He's
barely barely a college player. Yeah, it was very tough.

(02:13:27):
That's the question is how polish is he? How close
is he to his ceiling? He's obviously very polish and good.
But sometimes with guys like that, that means maybe they're
close to their ceiling already. Yeah, I mean it takes
it takes guys two to three years. Look Kay Cuttingham,
former one DASH one finally becoming a star in Detroit. Yes,
I don't know if Zachary the Atlanta Hawks.

Speaker 1 (02:13:48):
Will be that guy. But no, he's on the he's
like on the runway for Adam Clinton. That's not his seat.

Speaker 2 (02:13:54):
Yeah, but he's getting down there, he's getting access. That's
that's probably stock photo seven one three five seven Matty
Martin Angleton. This ought to be a treat.

Speaker 23 (02:14:06):
Hello Martin, Hey, Happy Easter to everyone. Still and I'm
up here in East Texas, but I'm coming down tonight.
But I know that I enjoy listening to breakdown of
the rockets. I know y'all timed him today at four
point fifty five, and I was thinking, what y'all could

(02:14:29):
do is y'all could go to his house, Gerard's house,
and y'all could time him when he's having relations with
his lady friend and he could call in. Geron could
call in, and you could break down the rockets and
his relations with his lady friend all at the same time.

Speaker 3 (02:14:57):
Matt, I Apo jazz.

Speaker 1 (02:14:59):
No, it's not you. Martin's been calling in with really
bad jokes and takes for a year. That bad.

Speaker 2 (02:15:06):
I mean, Martin might be one of the dumbest human
beings alive. And I don't know use that term loosely.
Thank you Martin for the call. Matt, once you head
to Gerard's house.

Speaker 1 (02:15:21):
And time him to No, I'm not telling anybody doing anything.
I guess he's trying to compare the two. Uh I,
I don't know. It's interesting, that's what think. That's where
Martin's mind went. Martin's expect Martin's kind of banned from

(02:15:42):
the show now, I mean busy. He's stupid. I mean,
I hate to call people stupid. I'm all right with it.

Speaker 2 (02:15:47):
But he's stupid, and I would hate to be called stupid.
M But that was stupid. I love you, Martin, but
you're stupid. We appreciate you, not really, all right? Is
there any possible way we can rebound from that phone call?
I don't think so, but I would like to have

(02:16:08):
someone to try. We can try to come in and
have a nice, decent sports conversation if you are able
to do that. Seven one three two one two five
seven onty, I mean it won't take much. No, seven
one three two one two five seven nine zero. Please,

(02:16:28):
If you have an IQ, what would you say? What
do you have to have minimize average? I believe yeah,
I think seventy five and below is m Yeah, I know, yeah,
don't say it.

Speaker 1 (02:16:40):
We're thinking it, though, So.

Speaker 2 (02:16:41):
I would say, if you have an IQ of above
one hundred, you're more than welcome to call the show.
Okay seven one three, two one two five seven. Aunty
Astro is getting ready for a series starter with the
San Diego Padres tonight and it's gonna be the uh
Toronto Blue Jays after winning two out of three. It
was crazy that they had won the Friday and Saturday
game and people are like, maybe that's a turnaround, and

(02:17:03):
then baseball happens.

Speaker 1 (02:17:05):
Look, if you win two on to three out every series,
you'll take that every day of the week. Yeah, but
they're not doing that.

Speaker 9 (02:17:10):
No.

Speaker 1 (02:17:11):
They got to sweep in there somewhere against the Giants.

Speaker 2 (02:17:13):
Yeah, but other than that, they're playing about five hundred
baseball right now. Hunter Brown on the mountain today, let's go.
Hunter Brown's like, you know what I'm gonna keep doing.
I'm doing and then we're gonna have a nice little
conversation in the offseason.

Speaker 1 (02:17:28):
Might be early for that might be early, but might
be warranted, especially because guess who's gonna be leaving at
the end of this year. Yes, I mean there, I'm
sure the Ashros have tried it. I mean the stars
are aligning for Hunter to do quite well for himself, right.
He's gonna make a lot of them. He's not gonna
be I don't think he's gonna be eligible arbitration until

(02:17:54):
is it this year, this all season?

Speaker 2 (02:17:55):
If you can buy arbitration years out, yes you can,
but that would say it Hunter Brown's gonna better on himself.

Speaker 1 (02:18:05):
I think so. Hunter Brown's like, this is really cute.
You're trying to do this, but it's not going to happen.
I would love if he did. I mean a lot
of big star players have had arbitration years bought out.

Speaker 2 (02:18:20):
Usually with young baseball teams that don't spend a significant
a money money on fre ages like the Kansas Cities
will will do that with Bobbywood. Junior Santego before they
became a big free spending team would.

Speaker 1 (02:18:31):
Do a lot of that arbitration buying out. Yeah, but
you remember who Hunter Brown hired in the off season,
Scotty Bee. That is correct, Scotty Bee's last taste of
facing the talk of the Astros not getting return text.

Speaker 2 (02:18:50):
Yeah, you think Scotty Bee is going to be like,
oh yeah, let's do a team friendly deal. Let you
guys buy out a couple of years arbitration tack on
a little bit, but this way the Astro let me
put this is the cart well before the horse that
I apologize. Do you think there's pressure to actually get
a Scott be not named jose Al Tuobe client signed
here to show the pressure from whom, from the Astros

(02:19:14):
of an organization and from Boris to say, we got
to figure this out, because if every time I have
a free agent that isn't really being courted by the team,
why do I want my players to go there? Well,
it's not really a big problem because the owner doesn't
want to sign big, long term contracts.

Speaker 1 (02:19:31):
So doesn't all good. And that's fine. I'm not saying
that's an indictment of Jim Crane.

Speaker 2 (02:19:37):
No, No, I mean he's had this philosophy and it's
been good for him most of the players who have left.
I guess he was saying it's dumbed down, as I'm saying,
I would like to see a Scott Boris client signed
with the Astros not named Josel Tube, because I think
Josel Tube wasn't one off. If he can sign, if
he gets more journeyman relievers and over the hill first

(02:19:59):
basement got a shot.

Speaker 1 (02:20:03):
I knew you went that way on Sports Talk.

Speaker 2 (02:20:08):
We're not gonna pay anybody to thirty five, thirty six
unless they're already thirty four. The reason you signed those
big deals because you're buying the prime and you know
you're gonna take it on the back end. Jim Crad's
accelerated against He's like, no, I'll just take the back
in decline years. It hasn't worked out. Well, let's go
Christian Walk. Come on, babe, let's go christ turn it

(02:20:31):
around Team Christian to walk. He is for team CW
me too. One thirty four. Sports Talk seven ninety Matt
and Ross with you until two o'clock. Let's talk to
Chris with his son seven ninety. Hello Chris, Hey, Matt, how.

Speaker 4 (02:20:46):
Are you doing today? Good?

Speaker 1 (02:20:47):
Let's going on?

Speaker 4 (02:20:49):
Ross got me fired up.

Speaker 15 (02:20:50):
Ross.

Speaker 4 (02:20:51):
You saying that the cougar choked. It was just not right.
You gotta go back and look and see that Florida
did the same thing. Detect. They did the same thing
to all and then they did it to us. It
seems to be their mo But as far as Matt's
comment about the referee, I won't say that the referees
cost us a game, but I will say they ruined
the second half of that game.

Speaker 1 (02:21:10):
They called four fouls in.

Speaker 4 (02:21:11):
The first half and twenty six in the second half,
and after Todd Golden's technical, they called eleven in a
row against the Cougars, and that that just ruined the
second half. It took the flow of the game away
and everything. But we had our plenty of chances to win.
We did not choke in Florida one. So I just
wanted to let you know that Ross, we didn't choke.

Speaker 1 (02:21:30):
He says that he doesn't think that the Cougars choked.
Oh okay, well they were uplate in that game and
then they didn't get a shot off in the last second,
So that's tomato potato. I mean, we we got.

Speaker 2 (02:21:44):
What happened to us is we did the Duke pearing
into story. Yeah, Duke choked at the end of that game,
and then we couldn't we couldn't get a shot off.
Don't get a shout out at the end.

Speaker 1 (02:22:01):
That's a joke. Sorry, you know.

Speaker 2 (02:22:05):
And this is what I said when originally chokes a
tough word because there's pressure.

Speaker 3 (02:22:10):
This was.

Speaker 1 (02:22:12):
The yeah, but you know what, I gotta be honest.
I never wanted to use the word choke. But I
don't consider these athletes amateur anymore. And if pro players choke,
college players can choke. Mm hmm. And the reality is
we couldn't have played a worse thirty seconds. They should

(02:22:36):
have won that game.

Speaker 2 (02:22:36):
They were the better team. Better team doesn't always win, notion.

Speaker 1 (02:22:44):
Honestly, Duke was a better team than used to just
say better team didn't win that game, but we had
two terrible, hard to imagine turnovers. Yeah, you turn the
ball over all like what in the last three or
four pace sessions or whatever, and don't get a shot
off at the end. That's a choke. I'm sorry.

Speaker 3 (02:23:06):
Yeah, it's.

Speaker 1 (02:23:08):
Just chokes a tough word it and it's hard for me.
I'm here. I'm here to give you the harsh truths
Cougar fans, and Lord knows, if Texas chokes at a game,
we will be happy to let you.

Speaker 3 (02:23:20):
You know.

Speaker 1 (02:23:21):
Yeah, well that's fine.

Speaker 4 (02:23:22):
Guess what.

Speaker 1 (02:23:23):
I'm not gonna be some dumb blind omer who's not
gonna say that my team choked. My team chokes, They choke,
it happens. It was a regrettable thirty seconds. It was terrible.
I mean it was the ball going off the foot
and then the traveler, and then the traveler the ball
loose kept of.

Speaker 2 (02:23:38):
The Yeah, yeah, no, no sunshines and rainbows. You're turning
the ball over and not getting shots off with the lead.
I guess another semantics argument. You can call whatever you
want to call it. I'm gonna call I got no ring,
I got no celebration, I got no hitter wins for
Calvin sam were they were gonna give you a ring? No, Oh,

(02:23:59):
I was er Farkley speaking. Maybe if you up your donos,
IM not donating anymore. Donate my time, my talents and
my positivity. We'll be fine. But it was a long
way ago, Rossie, I got COVID over it. Knowledge did

(02:24:19):
I not win? And I got a COVID out of it?

Speaker 1 (02:24:24):
Sixty thousand mangy people and animal doma dump fest needs
to be cleansed. It was dirty, Yeah, of course. What
was the facility like in there?

Speaker 2 (02:24:36):
And it's been a few years, spent a lot of
time the Alamo Bowl, as you know, Matt, I know,
I actually sat in your seat in the first two days.

Speaker 1 (02:24:43):
Yeah, it's gold plated. They still have it. That's great.
Here's where ross has been for a better part of
the last ten years of his life. It's great.

Speaker 2 (02:24:56):
Well, I mean honestly, I mean think about it as
a Cougar fan. The three most defining moments for me.
Two of the three are losses. One going to beat
Florida State and the Peach Bowl was cool because that
was a BCS buster mm hmmm uh. But the other

(02:25:16):
two are as an eleven year old kid watching five
Sami Gamma lose the National Championship on a buzzer beater,
and then being as an adult in the in the
building watching the last thirty seconds and watching the uh
blue and orange confetti fall from the top of the
animal dome.

Speaker 1 (02:25:32):
That's got to hurt.

Speaker 2 (02:25:33):
And me having to wait in order to sit in
the stadium for thousds people to actually then walk like
three miles to my car to my parking spot. Nothing enjoyable.
And then I get on a plane and go to
the uh to the Bay to La where I get
sick for five days and that things were great. I'm sorry, Matt,
it's fine. What do they say, ross, It's never it's

(02:25:54):
uh to uh better lost than never?

Speaker 12 (02:25:58):
Love?

Speaker 2 (02:26:00):
So I got reaching those heights. Would you rather be
the Buffalo Bills or jeez, I don't even know Colon
the Panthers and Texans often because tasted it.

Speaker 1 (02:26:15):
That's what I'm saying that Texans have never even been
to a championship game. At least the Bills went to
four Super Bowls. That's pretty crazy, yeah, and could have
won one of them. Why right? Mmm? Jerry Golfgate won
forty seven on the Hello Jerry.

Speaker 13 (02:26:34):
Hey, hello again, A great show is usually on this
beautiful day.

Speaker 20 (02:26:38):
Hey.

Speaker 13 (02:26:38):
Uh you know what, I'm amazed we're atz And and
see how how coaches.

Speaker 1 (02:26:44):
Uh no longer called plays?

Speaker 16 (02:26:47):
Uh?

Speaker 13 (02:26:48):
We saw an ideal example of a play being called
at the end of that what was that Purdue they
played where the picks were set for l J. Cryer
and and and all of a sudden he he's wide
open and the defender has to make a decision should
I should I leave wide open LJ?

Speaker 12 (02:27:06):
Crier?

Speaker 7 (02:27:06):
Yeah?

Speaker 13 (02:27:07):
I better go get him forgetting about the uh uh
you saying you saying down low? But but that all
was generated by a play call. You know, LJ had
two or three picks they ran behind. I had the guts,
my goodness to to actually have a quick conversation on
more than one.

Speaker 1 (02:27:26):
Occasion with with a coach of the cougars, and I
mentioned to him that that it would be good.

Speaker 20 (02:27:34):
Great.

Speaker 3 (02:27:34):
Uh no, I'm gonna tell you what I say.

Speaker 13 (02:27:36):
I said, if you set picks for players on the
low block, he went a national championship.

Speaker 1 (02:27:42):
Well, now that took a lot of.

Speaker 4 (02:27:43):
Guts in it.

Speaker 1 (02:27:45):
You told him to say to drop that play, but
well no, no, no no.

Speaker 14 (02:27:50):
His response was what was important?

Speaker 20 (02:27:52):
Uh he?

Speaker 13 (02:27:52):
He said, yeah, we already got We already got that.

Speaker 1 (02:27:56):
We already got plays like that in the in his
last Ready show.

Speaker 13 (02:28:00):
You know that we still They allowed people out in
the audience to stand up and have a mic and
say say something to him.

Speaker 1 (02:28:07):
And I was the first one up there.

Speaker 13 (02:28:09):
And on this occasion, this was actually the third occasion,
I said, you set picks for pete players? Well out
to uh No, I asked him, do you do you
have plays that set picks for people without the ball?
I swear to god, I said that, and so I
found out. I said, that's the best way to say that,
you know what I mean, just ask him.

Speaker 1 (02:28:29):
His response was check this out. His response was, next question,
you know, he want to know party. He was like,
you know what, I've been doing this for a long
period of time. Thank you. Thank you very much for
the call. Jerry.

Speaker 2 (02:28:44):
Yeah, yeah, that was play. I mean it was an
out of time out play. Coach you Doka runs out
of time out plays. Every every coach in the NBA runs.
They call them at O s. Yeah, that's good.

Speaker 1 (02:28:54):
It worked to perfection. They call him slove, sideline out
of bounds and all that type of stuff. You help me, Purdue,
Larry new Orleans at one hill O Larry.

Speaker 24 (02:29:03):
Matt Yes, Hey, thanks for taking the call. I'm a
nineteen seventy grad lifetime alumnus, not an alumni.

Speaker 1 (02:29:15):
That's several people.

Speaker 3 (02:29:16):
How many people misspeak that I was.

Speaker 1 (02:29:19):
In the pit in eighty three?

Speaker 4 (02:29:21):
It was pretty bad.

Speaker 24 (02:29:23):
I went straight denial. I said, okay, well that doesn't count.
We need to go overtime. Why are we going overtime?
Because if you want to talk about man, I hate.

Speaker 1 (02:29:35):
The seaword is terrible. But the coops, the coops choked.

Speaker 4 (02:29:39):
That was terrible.

Speaker 1 (02:29:42):
But the only way I look at it is they
were lucky to get there.

Speaker 24 (02:29:46):
Hey, great for reviving the program. Your show is great.
I've been in actually the year after the pit, flew
from Venezuela to Seattle to see him try to try
to do that, but.

Speaker 2 (02:30:06):
Maybe you're the bad curse. Thanks Larry for the phone call.
Larry not invited to go any more tournament games beating
then Patrick Ewing beat us the next year. Harsh, No,
Larry's good guy. Nineteen seventy pro Houston Coungar graduate. All right,
let's take a time out, come back and play believe

(02:30:26):
it or not? What are we going with Pope Francis
on this?

Speaker 1 (02:30:28):
Do we miss him doing? John Cena. Nico Harrison, the
Dallas Mavericks general manager, is meeting with the Dallas media
apparently everybody. When asked about Luka Doncic, she said, quote,
I didn't know Luca was important to the fan base.
I didn't know quite at this level. Are you stupid?
Are you Martin Angleton?

Speaker 3 (02:30:49):
Stupid?

Speaker 1 (02:30:50):
Seriously? How now?

Speaker 2 (02:30:55):
Obviously this general manager, Nico Harrison, is the fall guy
for the ownership group. There's no way fans or but
this guy's taking it like he is. But my god,
how do you how do you misread how important Luka
Doncic is to your organization?

Speaker 1 (02:31:12):
He is a All NBA player. He is a walking
twenty five thirty point guy, twelve rebounds, five assists, he
is a generational talent. And oh, by the way, he
helped you go to the West NBA Finals last year
you won the Western Conference. What do you mean? I

(02:31:32):
didn't know Luca was important to the fan base. I
didn't know quite at this level. Are you some kind
of stupid? My god?

Speaker 2 (02:31:42):
I am so tired of falling down and praying to
these front office executives and these owners and these general
managers who think they're the smartest guys in the room
when really they're not very, very bright.

Speaker 1 (02:31:55):
That move Luka Doncic being traded to Los Angeles might
ultimately cost the Dallas Mavericks ten years, ten seasons. I
didn't realize how important.

Speaker 3 (02:32:10):
What do you what do you mean?

Speaker 12 (02:32:11):
What?

Speaker 1 (02:32:11):
What were you watching? What were you watching that made
you think?

Speaker 12 (02:32:16):
Now?

Speaker 1 (02:32:16):
Granted, is he Doe?

Speaker 4 (02:32:17):
Yes?
