Speaker 2 (00:05):
Show, L three in ahe town. What's happening in lunch timers?
Good morning to everybody, and welcome to a Tuesday edition
of The mac Thomas Show.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
From New York with Ross. This is Sports Talk seven ninety.
It's everybody was right. There's a pass and it's stolen by
cam Win Moore at midcourt. He's gonna fly with the
right hand chand anticipated that passed beautifully, a turnover into
Houston points forty six thirty five. I'm right back and
(00:36):
got numbers in front to Adams, back to Brooks left
hand lip. No tap up, Adam jests Steven Adams did
not give up on that, and the Rockets ever regain delated.
In seventy three seventy two, King Batten, Carl goes like
a defensive switch. It's Brooks lay up a tep on
the way baseline. He's got it with the Brooks foul
(00:58):
and we're tied at one only not meaning ripple bubble,
but it won't mean much of the Rockets come up
short in this game.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Bronson pre pointer right side up and what a fourth
quarter for Jalen Brunson. Timeout coming to the Rockets out.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
Tompson launch of three porter twenty seven feet back.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
He'll miss rebound to Josh Hart Hondo It here tonight
from Madison Square.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
Garden, the Knicks will improve to eighteen and nine in
this building. The Rockets fault is seventeen and eight on
the road, and for the first time in a long time,
the Rockets have themselves a mini losing streak. It has
now reached three.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
As New York wins this game one twenty four to
one eighteen.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
Boston.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
This is a top five jam on the show opens.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
We can go wrong with little James Brown. Matt, this
absolutely hits well. What is Jalen Brunson? Unfortunately, down and
out in New York City. That's what the Rockets are.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
We're staying in the city. Baby, We're here at again today.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
Hopefully we don't have to play this one tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
Hated Brooklyn in the opponent tonight after beating the Rockets
on Saturday. Good morning, everybody, It is the Matt Thomas
Show with Ross. We are very happy to have you
with us today. I'm here in New York and Ross
is back in Houston. We have a action pack radio show.
All we want to do, Ross is deliver information analysis,
(02:45):
some hilarity, top shelf guest and there will be and
we're I've been working on all morning and hopefully it's
going to happen sometime between ten thirty and eleven thirty.
A starter for one of the two Super Bowl teams.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
Wow, Sunday, we'll be on this show, Mavis Melci, No,
Maylan Mertz, you got channel view connections? No, that's okay,
all right, that's great. Are you kidding me? There are
the Jabroni's running around.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Hey, this christ discuss He'll be taking around here in
New Orleans.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
It's so good. You know what this show m efforts.
We're bringing you the guest. Baby, that's what we're doing,
right Rock. I would like to be New Orleans though,
would be cool. I love New Orleans, as you know.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Get it all right, Ross, I need you. I have
to pivot here really quickly. I'm getting a phone call
from this person. So would you you take it for
about the two minutes here and I'll come.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
Yeah, I'll be able to handle it, all right. So
Matt is on apparently with the people of a guest
of an actual player, an actual starter in the Super Bowl,
which we should be able to bring you this hour's
day tuned for that. We opened up the show talking
about or with highlights of the New York Knickerbockers beating
the Houston Rockets one twenty four to one eighteen last night.
(04:00):
Been a tough run for the Rockets the last few games,
and I'm not necessarily concerned. They've lost three in a
row now, and if you're not paying attention, not watching
the team and kind of casually, which I know a
lot of you are, more and more of you did
start buying in when they're the wins over the Cleveland
Cavaliers and the Boston Celtics, as you rightly should have.
But it's been three losses in a row. But last
(04:22):
night they didn't have Fred van Vliet, they didn't have
Alprin Shanngoon, they didn't have Jack Landale. I mean, come on,
how are you not gonna win without Jack Landal? Of
course you're at with Jabari Smith Junior as well. That's
three of your starters that you started the season with
out last night on the road against a tough New
York Knicks team that was missing some pieces of their own.
(04:43):
Think og And and Nubi others not able to play
for the New York Knicks, but man, they really could.
Jalen Brunton dropped forty two. I mean they got great pieces.
Karl Anthony Towns had an off night, he still had
twenty two points. Mckel Bridges did a really good job
offensively and defensively. I think he was his length and
strength was giving Jalen Green some fits. And it was
(05:06):
a bit of an off night for the Rockets. They
allowed too many points there in that fourth quarter, forty
six points scored by the New York Knicks, and they
just weren't able to win the game. And that was that.
And the thing to me is is that you're missing
three guys. At least you call him rotational players, because
to me, Jervaris Smith Junior is not a starter anymore.
When he comes back, he well, either here or Dylan
(05:28):
Brooks is going to be out of the starting lineup.
But still, it was to me kind of a testament
to how good this team is that you're missing those
pieces and you're leading that team in the fourth period. Okay,
I thought I heard a text, so I thought Matt
was back, But Matt isn't back. Okay, still talking with
the guest is Matt Thomas. That's okay, So yeah, Aman
Thompson was spectacular after having a really off night the
(05:51):
game before where he went like four to sixteen from
the field and was like just not It just didn't
seem like he had his legs about him. Twenty five
points for him a lot, even assists, eleven rebounds, another
triple double. Dude is just continues to blossom into a superstar.
Also had a block and a couple of steals. Seems
like every night he's just doing so much and he
(06:11):
was having one of those nights last night. In Madison
Square Garden in New York, Tarry Easton inserted the starting
line up, playing very well for the Rockets. I mean,
you started Tarry Easton, Jayshon and Jayshon Tate. That's that's
not normal stuff for the Rockets and still one of
the best teams in the NBA. You were competing and
leading that team. What'd you think of that lineup? By
the way, I thought it was just small and Udoka
(06:34):
wanted to go switchable. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
I felt a little nervous early because Karl Anthony Towns
was attacking the basket in the first minute or so,
and then he kind of stayed away from me.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
He yeah, he did not have a high shooting night.
I mean he had high volume of shots, but not
a lot of accuracy and a perfect call from Udoka
because Jayshon Tate can muscle him out of the paint
and other guys can musclem out of paint. I like
Karl Anthony Towns. I think he's a really good player,
but he didn't want to He doesn't want to live
on a low block. He's just not about that life.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
No, he's a forty three point shooter. I mean, yeah,
I was on the floor at Madison Square Garden. I
don't like to walk the floor very much. And look,
I bag on Madison Square Garden because the ushers are
rude and abusive and overweight and really wear small suits
that don't fit. But it's still a dynamic building. I mean,
it's got so much history. You just walk in and
you just you get taking it back by it. I
(07:23):
was watching Karl Anthony town shoot three pointers. It was
like he was flipping dimes ross. I mean there was
absolutely zero wasted motion in his shot. They were like
he was It was just so easy for him and.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
The average person.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
I mean, you can haul up a three point shot,
but it's you've seen contests before.
Speaker 3 (07:43):
It arena's it's not pretty. Sometimes. Yes, he's just flipping
them boom boom, boom boom.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
I mean, in grant, he's one of the three hundred
best players on Earth and play basketball, so I.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
Mean you expect the pretty good ideas.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
It was just crazy how fluid he is from three.
But Jalen Brunson literally Ross in the fourth quarter unstoppable. Yeah,
and ma is probably really pissed at the Rockets fourth
quarter defense. In the last month or so, it has
not been good.
Speaker 3 (08:11):
The quotes were pretty funny from last night. I think
he said, even some of our what was the uh,
some of our so called defenders, we're getting torch or
something like that. Yeah, yeah, here we go. Even our
supposed defenders got cooked tonight, he made okay, just there
are very few coaches then get away with it. He's
one of them. He's one of them. Entertaining game.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
The star power last night, Rossie not spectacular in the arena.
What do you mean, Well, the one of the uncles
from the Sopranos was there, But he's there every game,
so that's no big deal.
Speaker 3 (08:45):
That's cool. The biggest celebrity probably.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
Was was Kevin Bacon and his wife Kia Sedgework were there.
Speaker 3 (08:53):
That's it. Well, what did they put a bunch of stars?
Maybe you just didn't recognize them, Matt, No, because they
always put up on the screen.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
Huh.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
They put some Giants players up and then they were booed,
so that didn't look out.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
That wasn't too hot. Oh really, is is it a
Jets area over there?
Speaker 2 (09:07):
No, it's just bad football. They don't like they root
for bad football in the New York metropolitan area and
they've got their choice.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
All right.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
So we are hoping to get a Super Bowl starter
to join the show coming up for the next few minutes.
We're trying to work on logistics because he's in a
media opportunity and it's also noisy, so we're trying to
We were doing a little bit of testing as to hey,
can you hear me?
Speaker 3 (09:28):
Can you hear me? Now?
Speaker 2 (09:28):
I hearory, So we will try to visit with him
coming up in just a few minutes. Also on the
radio program that We have Gut Feelings at eleven thirty
Today twelve o'clock, we have the news at noon, ross
your NFL rewind at twelve thirty, and we have three
hours and forty five minutes of Texans OC talk.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
Let's go, baby, you ready, Nick Keyley, come on down,
Nick Cayley, believe it or not today, I don't think
so unless you went about seven knots. Yeah, I don't
think so. I could do it.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
No, we got to find something else out.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
You know where he got You know where his first
job was, though, right? I believe it a dairy queen,
John Carroll, Nick Cassario. No, NICKI see does Hannah know
about this? I don't know.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
By the way, let's go for all the experience that
Nick Keyley has as an offensive play caller.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
Okay, go yo you first? No, you thought you were starting? No,
I'll let you go first. No. Yeah, Madden, Oh what's
Madden's a good one.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
I believe he also played cyber ball back in the nineties.
Speaker 3 (10:44):
I believe he's a back to back to back Turkey
Bowl champion. At his Thanksgiving at home.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
Yes, he once competed in a YMCA flag football league
with a headset on. He was the only person in
the entire field with a headset on talking to nobody Wow,
I'm sure. Look, he highly regarded, but there are too
many dufises in this marketplace that are running their Twitter account.
Speaker 3 (11:05):
I'm so excited. I can't wait for the possibilities. I've
been on this guy for a long time. Shut up
on massid you Well, okay, you can still be happy
about the offensive coordinator not.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
Let mean there's no one running around town high five
in each other about the offensive coordinator spot.
Speaker 3 (11:19):
I think there are people doing that. Well, that's their dufices. Then, okay,
what means you like football? Matt? Let me? Let me
do I do? I go around going. Oh, the Astros
got a new third base coach. Oh, it's gonna be
so much fun. I can't wait. You should screw up.
Don't have the windmill like Gary Pettis did. That's quite
different from being an offensive coordinator, I mean light years different.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
Well this, let me tell you. I got a prediction.
This guy's gonna do a great job next year. In
the year, but that he's gonna suck in people. A
gonna want him fire.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
I'm gonna I got a prediction for you right now.
Either A he's gonna get fired or be he'll get
hired away as a head coach. There's no in between.
I would say, if you're Nick Kelly, I would not
establish residency in the Houston area for everoneless all right,
seven one three, two, one two, five, seven, ten to sixteen.
Here on the program, Matt in New York, Ross in Houston,
and Shell Federal Credit Union is here for you in
(12:10):
the Houston area. For low interest rates on vehicles, how
about three point nine nine percent APR for thirty six
months that can be yours on a brand new vehicle
that you're purchasing, perhaps you're going to purchase a pre
owned vehicle or even refinance the one that you're currently
in now shell FCU dot org.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
SHELLFCU dot org for the Shell Federal Credit Union, two
hundred and fifty dollars in cash back, the opportunities for
deferred payments and skip a pays, all with the great
folks that make up the Shell FCU, which I am
a member, Shell FSU dot org, shell fsu dot org.
For low interest rates on a vehicle for thirty six months,
that's Shell FCU dot org.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
This is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross on four
Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
All right, If you need a reason to root for
the Philadelphia Eagles a little harder than the Kansas City Chiefs.
On Sunday, our next guest is gonna be the reason
why He is a fight in Texas Aggie Si fair
Kid and is the starting punter for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Braidon Man is with us here on the Matt Thomas
(13:19):
Show with Ross Braidon. It's Matt and Ross. Thank you
so much for joining us. How crazy is New Orleans
right now?
Speaker 4 (13:27):
Hey, guys, Yeah, thanks for having me. It's it's you know,
it's already crazy and we're still like six days and
five days away from the game, so I can't imagine
what it's gonna be like the rest of the week.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
All Right, we're gonna fanboy with you for a few
minutes because you get to take us through parts of
your world that you don't that we don't get to
be a part of. First of all, what's the plane ride?
Like you guys got into New Orleans a couple of
days ago? Is everybody kind of cerebral or as a
party atmosphere already?
Speaker 4 (13:51):
No, it's definitely not a party on the sphere. Some
guys are a little more quiet or like, get really,
I don't know into the music on the way there.
Some guys play cards, so it's just kind of a
relaxing vironment. Definitely saving the party environment for hopefully the
way back after after the game on Sunday.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
Absolutely, Hey, let me ask you, this is it? Okay?
Speaker 2 (14:09):
If I call you the second greatest punter in A
and M history, is that alright with you?
Speaker 4 (14:13):
That's that's an honor. Yeah, I know who you're talking
about in fund me and that is that is an
honor to even be behind him?
Speaker 3 (14:20):
Did you now you had a I was talking to
your dad the other day. You have a soccer background,
but you were just as much about football as you
were anything else, correct.
Speaker 4 (14:27):
Yeah, definitely, Yeah, I played linebacker like my whole life.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
So, and I was looking at some of your highlights
at A and M and then obviously a couple of
teams in the NFL. What was it like settling in Philadelphia?
And more importantly, tell me how awful it can be
with that field when it's like twenty three degrees, there's sleep,
it's a frozen field. I mean, how much longer does
it take you to get prepared for that as compared
(14:51):
to say a normal like a seventy degree day.
Speaker 4 (14:54):
Yeah, it's definitely a little different. I mean, growing up
in Houston was I didn't know how spoiled I was
for the weather until I left and went to New
York at first, and then Philly and ever since I
settled out in Philly for the last couple of years,
it's been awesome. I've loved it there. It's been great.
The weather is still, you know, not kind to us.
And we had that snow game in the playoffs this
year against ram so that was a bunch of fun.
Hard to get used to, but it was. It was
(15:15):
really cool to be part of that game.
Speaker 2 (15:17):
So, as a Philly resident, does the fan base do
they you know, like they love you when things are
going well, and they'll buy your meals and then they
will make you they'll charge.
Speaker 3 (15:26):
You double when you lose. I mean, is it as
passionate as a city as we think it is?
Speaker 4 (15:31):
Oh? Yeah, it is as passionate as as one can
get in the fan base. I mean I've been pretty
used to that. Like, you know, the A and M
fan base is passion just like it. So it's it's
been really cool and they they're so into the games.
What makes the environment there so cool. I mean, I've
played at Philly, not playing for Philly before, and the
environment was so cool just to be there. It's kind
(15:51):
of like when you go play, you know, an SEC
game somewhere else. It's just everyone's so into it and
the culture there on the with the fans and the
team is really awesome.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
Brighton man with us here on the Matt Thomas Show
of Rosses. He's joining us from New Orleans. So you
hear about the Eagles in the offseason and you hear that, Uh,
Saquon Barkley is now a teammate. What was that like
here in the news of that and obviously getting to
him a little bit, and more importantly the way he
has dominated your team's offense this year.
Speaker 4 (16:19):
Yeah, he is. Uh, He's truly incredible. He has been.
He's been Austin since day one. He's gotten here. I
think he's signed where they agreed to terms. The day
after I agree the terms. Uh, it's my deal, my
new extension. So it was, Uh, it was cool. Cool
couple of days and I was like, I don't know
how we how we got Saquon. I don't know how
the giants on them come to us but you know,
(16:39):
we'll take it. And he's obviously just been incredible weapon
all year, and you know, the offense kind of runs
through him, and it's it's been cool to watch him
have the historic season he's had.
Speaker 2 (16:49):
Do you and Jalen Hurts talk about Houston at all
or is it just all about Philly life now that
you're Eagles.
Speaker 3 (16:55):
No, Yeah, we'll.
Speaker 4 (16:55):
Definitely talk about Houston a little bit. We grew up
on kind of different side of Houston, so a little
bit from there. But we know, you know, quite a
few of the same people and have played, you know,
a few of the same teams. So he's he's probably
two or three lockers down for me in the locker
room at in Philly. So, uh, you know, every now
and then we'll talk about Houston stuff, or you know,
if we go down in Texas for a game, we'll
talk about place dat and stuff like that.
Speaker 2 (17:17):
How was the last couple of days of media attention?
Any strange questions thrown at you or anything like that?
Speaker 4 (17:22):
Oh strange question. Yeah, there was a bunch of just
like fun questions. I think I didn't get any of
like the really weird ones. No one was trying to
get a funny clip of the punter usually, so I
didn't get any of the crazy questions. But yeah, just
a bunch of fun stuff. I mean, you know, just
some random ones, like what's the best gatorade color? And
you know, all all kinds of just weird, funky stuff.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
So, what what is the best gay color? I'm assuming
it's got to be green, right.
Speaker 4 (17:47):
I don't think I've had I actually was told the
green one was really good. I think it's the purple
riptide rush. But they said red. Now I'm like, I've
never had some allergic to it. I just didn't even
know that was that red is even good at all?
Speaker 3 (17:58):
Wow, that's crazy.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
Brandon man with us here on the Matt Thomas should
Rossi's the punter for the Eagles and will be on
the field when you found out you're going to the
super Bowl. That's cool, but they have to do it indoors.
How much luck is easy is your life? And that
could be for any special team from there, But just
tell me about the differences in your preparation when you
have to worry about a fifteen to twenty mile per
hour swirling wind.
Speaker 4 (18:22):
Yeah, I mean it's the prep doesn't changed about the
week really sides, you know, just knowing that I won't
have to deal with the elements it is. It probably
gives me a few hours, but I actually have sleep
tonight before for sure. I love playing indoors. It's awesome.
I played at the at the SAME's place this year
for the first time and it's a really cool state
in being slide. I'm pumped for it.
Speaker 3 (18:43):
A ross with you in here in Houston as well,
Brandon in And it's funny. Can you just kind of
give us a window into life as a punter to
where if your name isn't a headline tomorrow, that means
you've done something very bad. Like you can do your
job perfectly one hundred times in a row, but that
one time something goes wrong, that's kind of when your
name pops up.
Speaker 4 (19:04):
Yeah. Yeah, it's it's kind of a funny job to
have because if I'm on the field, something went wrong,
and that's a pretty funny way of looking at it.
You know, if I'm coming on the field, the opposing
fans are either cheering for me or you know, our
fans aren't too happy with the team, so h Yeah,
it's an interesting spot to be in, for sure. But
you know, it's on's going out there. It's not really
about trying to not mess it up. It's just like
(19:24):
what can I do to you know, hopefully make a
big play and kind of swing the momentum a little bit.
If we're on fourth down and we can have a
big play on punt team, that is kind of a
swing momentum. So it's fun to have that challenge.
Speaker 3 (19:34):
For sure, and to keep like punts consistently. Is there
what do you what is the way that you do
that is there? Like is there like a song you
singing to yourself or like a one two three?
Speaker 4 (19:44):
This?
Speaker 3 (19:44):
Like, what is there something that you do to try
to kind of trick your mind into being consistent.
Speaker 4 (19:52):
I just I honestly just punt all the time and
try to keep it a relaxed environment. I punt probably
more than I would recommend anybody else. I just can't
like stop, you know, trying to, like you said, be
consistent with it. So but I try to keep it
a relax environment when I'm practicing and just you know, yeah,
I'll listen to a bunch of music and just have
fun with it and hopefully that transfers to the game,
(20:12):
so that when it's in the game, I'm hopefully in
my mind in the same relax environment that I am
in practice.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
Uh, bringing good. Two last questions for you.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
How often do you have the conversation with Nick Sirianni about, Dude,
I can throw.
Speaker 3 (20:24):
The football, let's go give me one, give me a shot.
Speaker 4 (20:29):
You know, I don't bring it up too much. He
I think he saw it. I threw one when I
was with the Jets. Said last year they let me
throw one against the Cowboys, which was fun at their place.
That was all week. He was like, we want to
run this, and I was like, hey, you already know.
You know, if you give me the green light, I'll
do it. So we had some fun with that one
last year. For sure. I don't know if I'm getting
it in with the quarterbacks and really letting it loose,
(20:51):
but I'll, uh, you know, just throw some balls around
for some fun.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
Seriously, if you could throw a pass and a fake
punt in the Super Bowl, you would be a legendary status.
You understand this, correct?
Speaker 4 (21:01):
That would be sweet. Yeah, now you know I'm not
going to count that.
Speaker 2 (21:05):
Hey, maybe if you throw a pick six, you're doomed
for the rest of your life. So I just want
to make sure there's there's a both ends of the
spectrum on that, all.
Speaker 3 (21:13):
Right, Yeah, no doubt.
Speaker 4 (21:14):
You know you either gonna be a hero or a
villain for sure.
Speaker 3 (21:16):
All right.
Speaker 2 (21:16):
So last thing, how many tickets do you get? I
know mom and dad are coming, which is cool. Is
there a fight for extra tickets? How does it work
with and you and your teammates? Did you guys are
trying to get your family and friends and girls all
in the stadium?
Speaker 4 (21:30):
Yes, I mean some guys. I know one of the
guys from the Chiefs, I think you bought thirty tickets
for his family and friends. So that's that was why,
that's the most I've heard of peel behind for it.
I mean, I'm sure some guys that are just an
extraordinary amount. Yeah, I got my my parents, my wife
Kylie's coming, and then my sister and brother in law,
and then my wife's parents too are coming, so it'll
(21:53):
be them seven there. It'll be a bunch of fun
for them. And they're kind of coming up for a
few days and hopefully enjoying the festivities.
Speaker 2 (21:59):
And when do you get to see them and when
do they like basically close down the operation, and I
guess you guys will probably change hotels. It'll be like
a kind of a super secret message the last twenty
four hours.
Speaker 4 (22:11):
Yeah, I'll get see him a couple of days before
we have some events. You know that families can come
to with us, so that'll be fun just to hang
with them. And then you know, like you said, twenty
four hour to four ish is kind of when we
all just go back to our normal rhythm of a
of a game.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
Hey, brain, we'll let you run. Thank you so much
for joining us. First of all, congratulates we'll get a
Houston kid in the super Bowl. You and you know
I don't want Jalen getting all the Houston love. It's

this week from us, for sure, and we wish you
to appreciate it. Thank you, and uh again, I've got
to know your folks a lot. Your dance it's next
to me at Rockets games and is a great friend
on the on the stats crew, and so it's a
(22:46):
great opportunity to see him. How Proudy is of you
and your family and your mom's been a volleyball coach
for a long time and I know her be through
my daughter, my daughter's volleyball career. So it's kind of
a little six degrees between us, and so we wish
you and your entire family a great time in New Orleans.
Speaker 4 (23:00):
Awesome. Thanks so much for having me on. I appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (23:02):
You got it all right.
Speaker 2 (23:03):
It's a Braidon man joining us here on the Matt
Thomas Show with Ross. Thank you very much for Braiden
joining us. The starting punter for the Philadelphia Eagles. Seriously,
if you and Ross you bring up a great point.
If we don't bring up his name, it's all good,
right unless he kicks like two sixty hired fieldgals.
Speaker 3 (23:21):
Now, if he shakes one or two, oh, he's gotta
step in injury replacement.
Speaker 2 (23:28):
And wonder if he's like the four string quarterback that'd
be cool, or maybe he's the backup.
Speaker 3 (23:32):
Fieldgal can rin in and ask him about that.
Speaker 2 (23:34):
I don't know, all right, So thanks again to Braiden
for joining us from New Orleans.
Speaker 3 (23:38):
Our time is ten thirty three.
Speaker 2 (23:40):
We've got gut feelings coming up in an hour from now.
We have a Rockets chatter on the conversation. We got
a Bregmann update and if we don't want to make
one up.
Speaker 3 (23:48):
Uh, And we.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
Got to get into the Texans new offensive coordinator and
his resume. We'll do that coming up next ten thirty four.
It is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross. I'm here

do up braidon man for joining us. By the way,
he is.
Speaker 2 (25:42):
The backup kicker for the Eagles.
Speaker 3 (25:44):
So I don't know if you're a Jake Elliott fan
or not, but if you want him, hurt brain your
guy as a backup. I don't want Jake Elliot hurt.
I don't think he want him. I don't want Jake
Kelly get hurt, right, I mean, yeah, probably not.
Speaker 5 (25:59):
Right.
Speaker 3 (26:01):
I'll get fired after the game on Sunday. Good. I
mean I didn't think I was not going to. I
just was just not going to be ready to buy
into two weeks of you know, fluff. How much fluff
have you seen? It hasn't been a lot of fluff.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
But no, it's actually it's actually, well, you know what it is.
You only consume the fluff you want to fluff. You consume, right, what?
Speaker 3 (26:21):
Yeah, you only take in the fluff you see. Correct.
If you're a fluffer, you're a fluffer and you love fluffing. No,
you're one of the best fluffers I've ever seen, Matt. No,
I've never fluffed before, A full time fluffer. I don't
think so, not at all.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
But uh, why you know, you know it's in New
Orleans this week our buddy Brian Smith, Brian T. Where
does that bring it? He's covering for Talk Sport, the
European of the British sports network.
Speaker 3 (26:47):
Oh great, so he's going to join us in a
few days from down Awesome. Yeah, I wasn't going to
say cheery. Oh does he have an accent?
Speaker 4 (26:55):
Now?
Speaker 3 (26:55):
Well, here's the thing.
Speaker 2 (26:56):
I was thinking about this, because if you move somewhere,
you typically just little small doses get some of that
accent in you there. Now, I've been lucky because I
was born in Detroit and lived most of my life
forty five years of my life actually more than forty
two years of my life in Texas. But I don't
(27:16):
have a Southern twin. I wonder if he's got any
British in his system right now, like any catchphrases, or
if the if you'l says a word.
Speaker 4 (27:27):
I mean.
Speaker 2 (27:28):
Well, I didn't want to ask him because I wanted
to be organic when he joined us. He's going to
join us here Thursday or Friday. But yeah, so bring it.
Brian t a former Chronicle columnists. You know the Chronicles
not replaced him as a columnist.
Speaker 3 (27:39):
Really, yeah, huh? What'd they have to say about your application?
Denied that it's quick, he's painless, doesn't know what nomenclature is. Now,
I'm we're we're not making them a columnist.
Speaker 2 (27:53):
Wait a minute, we've heard your radio show. You can't
turn you can't take that radio show of the newspaper.
We don't want to hear from you like that, which
I thought was rude.
Speaker 3 (28:00):
Matt. It's a great show.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
Too, I thought it was too Thank you very much,
all right, ten forty two Sports Talk, seventy We went
a little bit late with Brandon. We appreciate him spending
a couple of minutes with us.
Speaker 3 (28:09):
Yere.
Speaker 2 (28:09):
So when you found out the text and a new
offensive coordinator, first of all, to hate and they hate
the hire is ridiculous. I don't think anybody's doing that.
But I think to oversell the hire is a little
bit of it's a little bit of false bravado. He
could be awesome. He came from the Saint Louis. I mean,
(28:30):
there was Louis, the Los Angeles Rams, and obviously that's
a team that puts up a lot of points. That's
a team that has been one of the most explosive
teams in the NFL for the last handful of years
with Sean McVay. So the pedigree is there, but ross,
as we've learned, pedigree doesn't always mean everything. Go ask
to Bill Belichick Tree how that's working out.
Speaker 3 (28:49):
You know, I was actually looking up the because we
were talking about the greatest coach of all time, and
can Andy Reid get closer with another Super Bowl? And
one of my points of contention was going to be
that his uh, his coaching tree was great. You actually
look at it, It's like Brad Childress, Steve Spagnolo. We
used to think like Doug Peterson. I don't know what
(29:10):
you'd still call that a win? I guess, And you
guys got a Super Bowl. But he's been five twice since, right,
right right, Matt Nagy, David Coley's technically in his coaching tree?
Speaker 2 (29:20):
Oh god, does he even any Reid doesn't want that,
he says, he says, cut that branch in half.
Speaker 3 (29:25):
Sean McDermott, Bills, Todd Bowles, Buccaneers. Okay, it's a good
coaching tree, but it's it's better than Belichick's. Yeah, that's true.
It just is so Yeah, you know, I I.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
Think largely the belt, the coaching tree is overrated because
any Reid has he can only be a great leader.
Speaker 3 (29:48):
To those guys.
Speaker 2 (29:49):
But sometimes you gotta step away from the boss and
run your own business. Hmm right, I mean what if
what if you stepped on on your own you'd be
on the Matt Thomas Radio tree and and I'm.
Speaker 3 (30:00):
Not in your tree. I was here before you got here. Yeah,
but you were behind the scenes.
Speaker 2 (30:06):
Your your your ability to get on the air and
explain yourself and be entertaining.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
It is really under my watch. My first show when
I was really on air was with Jason Braddock. I'm
on the Jason Braddig Tree of anything.
Speaker 2 (30:16):
I guess Okay, if you want to, I'm gonna let
you go ahead and claim that.
Speaker 3 (30:20):
Knock that out if you said that, not me. And
then I had my solo show on the Saturdays. Yeah.
I just learned what not to do with you. Yeah,
that's true, which I appreciate. I am I am.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
I am the king of what Matt does. Do the
opposite of that's fair, that's fair. Ten forty five Sports
Talk seventy. The Cougars Big twelve schedule has been released. ROSSI, Oh,
it's a juggernaut. Oh for football, Yes, sir?
Speaker 3 (30:48):
Oh okay, h cool, don't seem excited. No, it's fine,
I'm sure. Yeah. Is a nineteen thousand fans a week
are ready to get raucous at the TDECU Stadium. Is losing.
That's still the name. They're losing, they're losing their name.
Speaker 2 (31:04):
It's going to change a different credit what they'll spend
money with us, so they don't get the mention. Okay,
but yeah, the first two games on the schedule at
least for the overall non.
Speaker 3 (31:12):
Conference HM A doozy. Go ahead, well, tay when we
come back. Oh look at this guy. Professional radio teas.
Speaker 2 (31:21):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven NINTI Rockets fall
last night here in New York. Offensive coordinator will give
you this the resume of the new man will be
in charge of the Texans offense, just to let you
know he has never been a play caller before.
Speaker 3 (31:37):
It doesn't mean anything, or should it. I think Gerrod
Johnson's field right now about that. Honestly, I thought it
was his job. I know, I thought he would have
been the betting favorite going in.
Speaker 2 (31:46):
To be honest with you, but you know what the
question will be, will he want to stay now that
he didn't get an opportunity to be the head coach
seven one three two one two or the offensive coordinator
seven one three two one two five seven.
Speaker 6 (31:58):
Ninety imagine Ross return return on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (32:08):
Ten fifty two on The Matt Thomas Show with Ross Sports.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
RV is back in our Houston studios. I'm here in
New York Rockets and the Brooklyn Nets. Tonight we'll be
on the air at five point thirty with a launch
pad hosted by one of the atoms. I'm going to
presume it's Adam Clanton. This go around at six o'clock
the network pregame and then it's six thirty. We'll have
a tip time from the Barclay Center. And any of
you have gone to New York and a Ross, you
(32:34):
have been there. I don't know if you've been to
both buildings.
Speaker 3 (32:35):
MS. I've only been to Barclays. Okay, it's right the
right off the train. There's a stop right there is
that right? Okay, I need to be taking a I'll
be taking a escorted bus. That's fine. Well, train, I'll
get you there faster. I'm sure. I don't doubt that.
It's It's a little bit of a whole. The Brooklyn
bridget Bridge is cool, but it's still traffic is just
(32:56):
a hot mess.
Speaker 2 (32:56):
Traffic's always bad here, but yet different vibe or anybody
that comes to New York, Uh and it's like a
different vibe going to Clippers and Lakers games.
Speaker 3 (33:05):
It just is. By the way, am I right? Is
Lucas speaking in a few minutes in La He's supposed
to hmmm, yeah, as long as they said, as long
as he's not And they told him not to chew
cheeseburgers as he's talking.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
Apparently In and Out is now a huge sponsor of
uh Laker basketball.
Speaker 3 (33:22):
That tweet made me laugh. Yesterday somebody said his first
triple double and it was a it was a triple
double in and out burger, although it was actually three
by three.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
So just saying that, there's a part of me that's
very sad. When you and I first started working together,
I always felt I could have I could have a
double double. Animals downy two of them comfortably. Oh so
now I have a tough time eating one. Hmmm, my
stomach smaller. The first time I ate was a I
had a three by three and oh so good, this glorious.
The first one I ever had was in Vegas.
Speaker 3 (33:54):
In and out. Yeah, and it was a religious experience,
so good.
Speaker 4 (33:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (33:58):
I will disagree with those people that say that a
Vegas in and out is different than a California in
and out than a Texas in and out that all tastes.
Speaker 3 (34:04):
I would say, I do think the Texas ones now
Vegas and California to me. Now, obviously I don't know
who knows, redn't do a side by side comparison, and
who knows if a place is had it off there
or what. But it does feel to me like the
Texas ones aren't as good, even though they're still pretty good. Yeah.
One time Ross and I were going to go to
an in and out and we went to the distribution
factory by accident. That was my baby. That was awesome.
I just put in and out in that. We were
(34:25):
in Dallas, right right, I put in and out in
my GPS and it took us to the in and
out distribution center. Yeah, we saw lots of frozen meat. Yeah.
I was like, griddle and fire on up. Yeah, don't
don't clip that police frozen meat. It doesn't work. Okay, thanks,
we're gonna get you. Being a fluffer though, No, no, no,
no no, And by the way, don't look at what
(34:47):
a fluffer is. Just the greatest fluffer of all time.
People say, Matt Thomas.
Speaker 2 (34:51):
No they don't, no, they don't associate with being with
fluffing at all, none, at all.
Speaker 3 (34:57):
All right, Ross already had me look it up, the
greatest fault from all time. No, just what it meant.
But you didn't know because I wasn't aware. Okay, good see.
You know what you're doing. Ross, You're warping the corrupt
mind of Connor dy mcgovernor. That's right, that's been happening.
That's my bad. All right, let's run through. Can we
get some cougar fight saw music here?
Speaker 2 (35:18):
I want to I want to sell some car grows too,
and some growls too.
Speaker 3 (35:22):
Let's go.
Speaker 2 (35:22):
I'll wait, we'll start fightings. I suppose the big twelve minute,
big presentation. Put it on an f S one today
he did.
Speaker 3 (35:29):
Did you see what else? FS one had? No, we'll
talk about it later. I tweeted it. Did it happen today? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (35:40):
You know what happened yesterday? I think Colin Coward routed
on the air. Huh yeah, that's hilarious. Okay, Well, we'll
talk about the f S one thing when we come back.
Yeah yeah, all right, real quick, here's the schedule. We're
gonna start it off on a Thursday night.
Speaker 3 (35:58):
Ross, And you know how big Those Thursday night game
are uh huh yeah on espn.
Speaker 2 (36:02):
U August twenty eighth, before the start of the NFL season. Okay,
Cougar's are home at whatever they're calling it to host

Speaker 3 (36:35):
It will be going Rice ols.
Speaker 2 (36:36):
Is the Cougar's improved the two and zero in the
young season.
Speaker 3 (36:40):
I mean it's a wow, We'll see. It's a rivalry game,
aren't they the curtain current holders of the of the
Cup the Cougars are, Oh they are, Yes, I know
you want to be the way around, but it's not
gonna happen. Didnt they win recently though? Two years ago
when Dana lost that game and we eventually that's right,
you bu your lost his job.
Speaker 2 (36:59):

How or something? No, sir, they're not okay, And that's
a good non con schedule kind of thank you your
It's like a mid level that's four and oh now, okay,
so that's two L. So I got you guys, two
and two. Saturday, October fourth, home for Texas Tech revenge
game after they beat us in basketball on Saturday, thirty
(37:44):
five percent Tech fans in the building, another L two
and three. Then Saturday, October the eleventh, t Boon Pickin' Stadium.
Oh god, for Oklahoma. I hate that stadium where that
there's like no room between there's there's like brick wall,
it's the sideline and then like six inches of grass
and then it's the wall. It's ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (38:05):
Yeah, or next, brains are very much a possibility. Cougars
at Oklahoma State Saturday, October eleventh, let's go two and four.
Then Saturday, October eighteenth, home for the Arizona Waldcats. Hashtag
revenge game. Oh win, We'll go win.
Speaker 3 (38:20):

Speaker 3 (38:45):
Cougar's last time in the West.
Speaker 2 (38:47):

to end the game and the Cougars won it. I'm
the very last place. I'll give him a win there,
thank you. Then Saturday November eighth, going to Orlando, Florida

And the Cougars will finish off their twelve and oh
season and will make their way to the Big twelve
Championship game after disposing of the Baylor Bears in Waco

Speaker 2 (39:25):

h ross, Would you see? That's a bowl season minimum.
There you go, That's what I'm talking about.
Speaker 2 (39:50):
Maybe we'll face you guys in the Alamobile.
Speaker 3 (39:52):
Who's you, guys, Texas? Would in Texas gonna be in the
alimibule man's possibility? Have you seen their early early res
early preseason rankings that ominous? Ominous? Yeah? What are you?
I'd say most out let's have the long horns either
one or two.
Speaker 2 (40:11):
Oh God makes You're gonna make it even more insufferable
than you already are.
Speaker 3 (40:16):
What did I even do? You're just gonna be braggadocious
all year? When did I brag this year.
Speaker 2 (40:21):
M I don't know, you're always very very happy about.
Speaker 3 (40:26):
You just a false narrative. Oh Mo, I'm sorry. I'm
happy they made the playoffs back to back years.
Speaker 2 (40:31):
Hey, you made the bridal cord the last couple of years.
What nother worry about that?
Speaker 3 (40:35):
Yeah? They they've been kicking the door down, Matt. Now
they're gonna go. They've been knocking on the door and
now they're gonna kick it down. Mm hmm.
Speaker 2 (40:42):
Hey you and bum Phillips both all right, let's get
the second hour started. You have something that happened in
FS one today. Is this it worthy of eleven o'clock
lead into this?
Speaker 3 (40:51):
Not really, but we can talk about it all right.
It's just annoying. That's what's called.
Speaker 2 (40:55):
That's what we call a way to hang out with
the Matt Thomas Show for I Hour number.
Speaker 3 (40:57):
Two with Ross. Oh, I'm gonna be so upset.
Speaker 2 (41:00):
There you go, sell it, sell it hard for like
ten seconds, go for it.
Speaker 3 (41:04):
The most egregious, ridiculous question posed in sports media history
coming up?
Speaker 2 (41:10):
Oh I love that seven one three two one two
five seven ninety If you want to join our conversation
seven one three two one two five seven Hounty. We
have in a half an hour got feelings. Right now
I want to say about Scott Callahan and Associates. You know,
sometimes unexpected things happen in life, and when they do,
this is the group of folks you want to call
personal injury trial lawyers.
Speaker 3 (41:32):
At their very best.
Speaker 2 (41:33):
They are Texas Board of Legal Specialization certified. Ten percent
of those Texas lawyers are TECH Board certified, and Scott
Callahan is one of them. You will call him at
seven one three eight eight eight nine thousand. Seven to
one three eight eight eight nine thousand. You'll pay zero
up front or on a pocket There's no travel to
an office required. They'll handle the headache of dealing with
(41:54):
the insurance companies and let you get back on your
feet and get the money you so richly deserve. Seven
one three eight eight eight nine thousand. If the unexpected happens,
you need Scott Callahanton Associates on your side. We help
Texas dot Com as a website. That's we help Texas
dot Com Or seven to one three eight eight eight
nine thousand.
Speaker 3 (42:14):
For Scott Callahanton Associates, Principal Office, Katie Texas.
Speaker 1 (42:20):
Launchtimers. This is the Matt Thomas Show.
Speaker 2 (42:24):
Eleven oh seven out of Sports Socks seven Audi is
a Matt Thomas show with Ross. We've got gut Buildings
coming up in about twenty three minutes from now. Ross,
you were watching FS one, which I ask you, when
there's not a game on, why you're doing that?
Speaker 3 (42:36):
What made you so angry today? I know I hadn't
changed a channel in time. And okay, so I tweeted
this out at Sports RV. All right, I just look
up after we hit break and on the screen on
FS one, this show the Facility, which I don't even
know what that isn't as a football player show. I've
never heard on the bottom third as they call it, Matt, Okay,
(42:58):
does Luca's addition hurt Lebron's legacy? The forty year old
arguable greatest player of all time, all time leading scorer,
what's that? Who's going to I mean, he's gonna be
(43:20):
top five and assists. If he's not already four championships,
four or five MVPs his career, he could retire yesterday
and the Lakers decide to add one of the greatest
young players on the planet. How in any world would
you say this affects Lebron James's legacy. That's just my
(43:41):
mind was it shouldn't. This is one of those things
where you're like, I shouldn't be surprised, but I still
was surprised at how stupid of a question that is,
What does trading for a great player have to do
anything for Lebron's legacy? You know what we did?
Speaker 2 (43:56):
We both did something stupid this week. I put the
TV on and flip the channels on. I saw the
damn Pro Bowl. You or you didn't get to the
channel changer in time to get rid of the FS one.
Speaker 3 (44:06):
He is forty years old, Lebron James averaging twenty four
points nine assists and seven point six rebounds. Yeah, either the.
Speaker 2 (44:16):
First or second greatest player, depending on the day of
the week.
Speaker 3 (44:19):
Hmm.
Speaker 2 (44:23):
I mean, I don't know. I think we've talked about
this for about five years now. I think the only
thing that probably Lebron could do is maybe win two
or three more championships, which.
Speaker 3 (44:34):
Was just it's not it would be his team before
his team.
Speaker 2 (44:38):
And by the way, I gotta I gotta make a
philosophical change on something that I talked about yesterday and
I have no insid information on this. But I've just
been watching. I spent a lot of time on the
for U.
Speaker 3 (44:50):
Tab, which is got my mistake come just getting the
different opinions on things.
Speaker 2 (44:55):
I'm now of the belief and you could obviously flip
the other I'm now the belief.
Speaker 3 (45:02):
That maybe Lebron didn't know about this, because our guy
Mark Medina said he didn't think he did. Because if
Lebron would have known about this, would he have even
if it was for Luca, would he have said eighty
is my guy, we can do this. That's possible.
Speaker 2 (45:18):
Yeah, I'm just and I'm not one hundred percent sold,
but I'm just I'm in a massive leaning of a
change on that opinion that Lebron can't be You can't
run everything through Lebron.
Speaker 3 (45:33):
Lebron at thirty you better run everything through him. Lebron
at thirty five. Yeah, still so Lebron at forty.
Speaker 2 (45:41):
No, this was a deal that was made for the
Lakers to start winning post Lebron, whatever that's going to be.
So yeah, I'm I am of the belief now that
maybe Lebron was not in the loop on this, because
maybe he would have put a kaibosh on this and
then he would have told Rich Paul over his agency,
(46:02):
Clutch Sports, and then Clutch Sports would have lobbed a
phone call to a couple of NBA media types and
got this rumor spread and it could have kabashed it.
So maybe that Rob Polink is like, we got to
keep this super on the download because I don't want
anybody to influence our decisions. If we're going full throttle
for Luca and you're gonna give it to us Nico
Harris and the general manager of the Mavericks, it better.
Speaker 3 (46:23):
Just between the two of us. In fact, did you
see yesterday Ross that they Jazz didn't even know what
was going on. They were the third team in this
trade and it didn't realize the parts of the trade
were involving the two guys we just talked about.
Speaker 2 (46:38):
I'll say this and this is This has been repeated
as well a couple of times. The NBA doesn't have
some things that that the NFL does. I mean, sheer
fan base, it doesn't have the family orientation that maybe
a baseball does where generations of fans. But the one
thing the NBA has that the other two leagues don't
(46:59):
have is their off seasons and their trade deadlines are
sexier than anybody else's.
Speaker 3 (47:05):
They just are. Yeah they are. But they have the
worst regular season of any of the team they too.
Speaker 2 (47:11):
That's what I'm saying is, how do you how can
we comprehend that in sports?
Speaker 3 (47:15):
Now?
Speaker 2 (47:15):
We do have that in college basketball too, because the
college basketball regular season is atrocious. It's foul ridden game,
poor officiating, miss free throws, blown layups, and then you
get at the tournament and you just fall in.
Speaker 3 (47:31):
Love with college basketball. Yeah, but those games in the tournament,
we we even say we kind of just forget about it,
but we're like, oh, this game was ugly. Yeah, it's
like it's thirty six when there's three minutes left.
Speaker 2 (47:41):
But you're holding that damn bracket in your left hand. Yeah,
you're going crazy over it. I think college football has
has narrowed the gap a little bit. Every week in
college football is a regular season fan, you are on
the edge of your seat. Oh, Alabama's playing A and
m Texas is playing LSU.
Speaker 3 (47:58):
You can't get enough of that.
Speaker 2 (47:59):
And then you had this deep descent into well, my
team's not playing for the national championship in the final four,
then who cares if they go play in the Gator
Bowl or who cares if they.
Speaker 3 (48:10):
Play in the Music City Bowl. Now, with this tournament
at twelve teams, you're now giving those thoroughbreds that have
been giving you so much excitement during.
Speaker 2 (48:18):
The course of the week a chance to watch them
play for a national championship. So college football's kind of
got is getting it better.
Speaker 3 (48:23):
They are. But the NBA free agency is.
Speaker 2 (48:30):
Unbelievably exciting in the summertime, and this trade deadline is
going to be bonkers.
Speaker 3 (48:34):
Did you see the names that are being brought up.
Kevin Durant has been talked to by multiple teams, not
by to him, but by other teams. Zion Williamson has
been brought up in conversation. Paul George in Philadelphia has
been brought up. And it's gonna be all this rampant
speculation here, But there's enough people that I do feel
are somewhat credible in the world of basketball reporting.
Speaker 2 (48:58):
That I do believe these names are bring brought up
in conversation. Philadelphia should be kicking the tires on moving
Paul George. They're not going They're not gonna give the
a playf un if even make the playoffs, begin with.
Speaker 3 (49:07):
Yeah, And what's going on with Joe Embiid? Does he play?
I don't. I don't even know. I don't know either.
All right, By the way, can we talk about Kevin
Durant and how crazy good he's been since tearing his achilles.
He's averaging twenty eight points per game in a six million.
Speaker 2 (49:25):
Dollar man is what he is. He's actually more worth
more than that much more. He you know what he
did two things Ross? He stopped going on his burners.
Speaker 3 (49:34):
Yeah, he calls people out on his regular Twitter and
he rehappen in person when it's Gary When is Gary Payton?
Speaker 2 (49:39):
Yeah, he's special, he isn't you know what Low Ross?
Thirty five, thirty six years old does not mean it's
the end of your NBA career. If you keep yourself
in shape and you're one of the old time greats,
you're playing. Look at Lebron. I mean, Lebron is slowed,
but he's still Yeah, stuh freaking Lebron James.
Speaker 3 (49:56):
He's forty. Steph Curry is what thirty five ass into?
You're blooming the face. I mean it's unbelievable. Well, Steph
Curry's thirty six as well.
Speaker 2 (50:06):
I mean there are still a lot of stars in
this league that are playing. I mean, look, James Harden,
you know what the player was four or five years ago,
but he wakes up with a triple double.
Speaker 7 (50:15):
He has.
Speaker 3 (50:15):
Sports science has certainly improved. Yeah, I think because some people,
you know, the Lebron Jordan argument. People bring up, oh,
look what Jordan at thirty nine was averaging this, and
this is what Lebron's averaging at thirty nine. It's like, yes, true,
but also the sports science has really advanced even since
those days.
Speaker 2 (50:31):
Yeah, all right seven one three two one two five
seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven
nine zero. We have a gut feelings coming up at
the bottom of the hour.
Speaker 3 (50:41):
Right now.
Speaker 2 (50:41):
I want to tell you about Big City Wings. You
need to get to Big City Wings this Super Sunday.
Speaker 3 (50:48):
Whether you're going to watch.
Speaker 2 (50:49):
The games there or you're going to pick up some
food and take it home.
Speaker 3 (50:52):
With you, you are.
Speaker 2 (50:53):
Going to want to be a part of Big City
Wings Super Bowl Special thirty Boneless Wings available for nineteen
ninety The Gridiron Special, which has a little bit of everything.
It's an ultimate appetizer plate that's for twenty four ninety nine.
If you are looking for a butt lighted three dollars,
an Ultra sixteen outs can three dollars, Modello and Pacifico
pints are five dollars, and the frozen drinks are five
(51:16):
dollars as well. Big Game specials for the Big Game
at any of the thirteen Big City Wing locations. Now
today is even a good day to get the Wings
because it's buy one, get one free ten gts of
ten fifteen gets your fifteen, and so on and so on.
So it's a two for Tuesday and the big Sunday
specials for the Big Game at any of the thirteen
Big City Wing locations with the air walla wall on the
(51:36):
big screen TVs. It's about the location, are you It's
simply Big Citywings dot com.
Speaker 6 (51:43):
The Man Tata Show with Ross continues so on Sports
Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (51:52):
Right now, Lucas having his press conference at Los Angeles,
saying all the right things. People in Los Angeles are nice.
I'm gonna miss Dallas, it was good to me place,
blah blah blah blah blah. If you're Luca, you live
for not only beating the Mavericks personally, but to get
the Lakers farther this year, than the Lakers, than the
(52:13):
Mavericks in the playoffs, right, I mean, that's it's you're
the Mavericks cost you one hundred million dollars period in
the story. That's all I'm saying, one hundred million dollars.
No longer a super max eligible seven one three two
one two five seven ninety. Matt here in New York,
(52:35):
Ross back and Houston seven one three two one two
five seven ninety on the Texans coaching situation, and I
have not heard it. We know that it's Jarrad Johnson
going to stay. Have we heard anything for officially one
way or the other on him.
Speaker 3 (52:51):
I believe Ross stepped out for a second, But I
don't haven't heard any news about Drad Johnson.
Speaker 2 (52:55):
I was gonna say, I don't know what's going on
with him.
Speaker 3 (52:57):
Whether he's interviewed anywhere else. Besides you know he had
the inw you with the Jets.
Speaker 2 (53:00):
But yeah, Nick Kayley, by the way, the new offensive
coordinator has never called plays before, so whether that's of
a again, all all you've writ if you've read anything
about him, is he is innovative. He works really well
with tight ends. A lot of coaches that eventually become
offensive coordinators and runners of offense wind up being working
with tight ends first or position group. So I know
(53:25):
that Sean McVay, the Rams head coach, has spoken very
highly of him, But you are bringing a first time
play caller in and I wonder how much of that
is the connection between Casio and Kiley, or if that
is a combination of that Demico Ryans doesn't necessarily need
(53:45):
an old grizzled play caller to run his offense, or
how much of this is of all the different folks
that CJ. Stron got to meet. That Nick Kelly was
the guy that meshed with CJ the best.
Speaker 3 (53:58):
I mean it CJ's boy, or maybe that John Carroll,
he was it John Carroll and with the New England
Patriots just saying well, I'm just gonna say this, it's
it would be easy to rip the decision because of
the two connections you just talked about. But honestly, Ross,
(54:20):
this happens all the time in work. Yeah, you always
got to know somebody. You got to know somebody.
Speaker 2 (54:27):
And if you're in charge and you like a young
guy and like, hey, when it becomes my shop, I'm
bringing you along with me. It's not that out of
the ordinary for Cacero to go to a bloodline of
people that he knows or has been around before.
Speaker 3 (54:42):
The resume is good. The resume is there except for
the play call and responsibilities. Yeah, but how often are
really good play callers just going to be up and
available for an offensive coordinator spot. Yeah, you just think
about this.
Speaker 2 (54:56):
If you're hiring a guy that's play called before, that
means it's probably been Yeah, exactly. Yeah, I don't I'm not.
I don't think it's a I don't think it's a
big deal, honestly, because again, when you see coaches that
move up the ladder in the NFL or college, if
you're a bright offensive mind, the first place you go
(55:18):
to coach in the NFL, you're probably not calling plays
unless you're doing it at a junior high school level. So,
as far as I'm concerned, that to me, isn't the
sticking point. The sticking point is going to be, uh,
you know, did did Demiko want somebody that had a
relationship with CJ? Did Casario say, Look, I've known about
(55:42):
this guy for quite some period of time. Look, your
last offensive coordinator was a guy you wanted to bring
in because the San Francisco Ties.
Speaker 3 (55:49):
Now it's my.
Speaker 2 (55:49):
Turn to bring somebody in that I know, who knows
what the background story is.
Speaker 3 (55:54):
And at the end of the day, we don't particularly care.
Speaker 2 (55:57):
Just score more points and figure out a way to
create offensive line that is going to protect the franchise quarterback.
Speaker 3 (56:03):
Yeah, and Aaron Wilson has said that Dard Johnson is
expected to stay.
Speaker 2 (56:07):
Okay, my guess is I don't know Jerrad at all,
but I mean I think he's he's well regarded in
NFL circles. Maybe it's just he's just not ready at
how Girod's gotta be what thirty three, somewhere in that range.
Because when I was when I first came back in
twenty ten, like he was a starting quarterback him in
Tannehill or like he had thirty six?
Speaker 3 (56:28):
Is he that old? You know he's been on this
station before. Gerard Johnson has before he was getting into coaching,
he was thinking about getting into media. I don't remember
how we had the connection. I got his phone number.
You want to call him? Now, let's see what he
does first. You bet Gerard Johnson number. All this time,
(56:50):
he's never been on the show. Got a guess booker.
You what do you mean You always complained about no
guests is good enough? So I didn't think you'd want
the quarterbacks coach. You didn't ask me about this one. Okay.
Look how many how many texts we had.
Speaker 2 (57:03):
On the show in the last five or six years.
Zero okay, So if.
Speaker 3 (57:08):
You'd have got me one, it'd been better than one.
A quarterbacks coach.
Speaker 2 (57:11):
Yeah, but we got to get in in the early stages.
So when he becomes a head coach, you're like, oh man,
those are my guys.
Speaker 3 (57:17):
Okay, I see, I see you see you are teaching
me things, Matt. Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (57:22):
Only took me fifteen years a few things.
Speaker 3 (57:27):
That's funny.
Speaker 2 (57:28):
Uh seven one three two one two five seven nine
at zero seven one three two one two five seven
on eight.
Speaker 3 (57:35):
Yeah, I look.
Speaker 2 (57:37):
As I I think offensive coordinators are like any other
positional coach. You know, remember the Astros when we were
hitting all the home runs?
Speaker 3 (57:45):
Who is the hitting coach?
Speaker 2 (57:46):
We got to give him some more money and the
Astros don't get a runner over from second with less
than two outs, Fire the guy and then they misname
who he is, and that don't represent him and start
taking other coaches and replacing him with other coaches who
are pitching coach. It's it's about as low hanging of
a fruit for a fan as it is possible. But
(58:07):
I think the microscope beyond this, because here's the thing, Ross,
if Cola doesn't work out, I don't think Demico wants
two ocs under his belt in three seasons as a
head coach, So probably not. You don't want to build
that reputation. And that's why that's why I kind of
thought all along that Slok was going to get one
(58:31):
more year, because again, you're now whoever to inherit the job,
and now that's obviously Colon is going to face tremendous
amount of pressure because of the fact that you if
things don't work out or not assuming they're going to
not work out, but if they don't just a possibility,
it's going to be either the coaching infrastructure or the
quarterback can't deal with youet another voice giving him advice
(58:52):
about how to run his offense.
Speaker 3 (58:54):
Hmm. I got a little conspiracy theory for you too. Oh,
I love conspiracy theories. How about Slow was Dimico's guy
and this is Cassio's guy. Yeah, I will buy not
that Dimko says, oh no, Nick Kayley sucks. He's the worst.
But it was maybe Casario pushing for this going going
away from the I mean it's still kind of West
(59:15):
Coast Shanahan schemes. But the Rams weren't big outside zone
running team like like Bobby slowk was. How about this one?
Speaker 2 (59:23):
Casio wanted his guy East Coast roots Patriots.
Speaker 3 (59:30):
Gerrod Johnson was the coat. Was the pick for Demiko.
Maybe Hannah and Hannah all right, could be, but not likely.
We need to get like a Texans insider on this.
Do we know any uh not really Aaron Wilson, Aaron
(59:56):
Wis is an insider Dale Brnson, Ye, Dale? Do you
think Dale would know? I don't know. I don't know
if he's out of touch or where he is? Is
is this place even still open?
Speaker 2 (01:00:06):
That's a great question. Yeah, how is Dale Brinston's place going?
Speaker 3 (01:00:10):
I don't know. We'll find out. We got it.
Speaker 2 (01:00:12):
We have a gut feelings coming up Ross explaining the
audience what a gut feeling is.
Speaker 3 (01:00:15):
That's something that you feel in your gut that uh
you know it's not as we we have levels to
everything for whatever reason on this show. Put your name
on it means this is my prediction and I'm personally
guaranteeing this is gonna happen. Gut feelings like you know what,
I kind of got a crazy feeling this is gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (01:00:30):
Yeah, these are crazy feelings. Ye means crazy. So if
you get it right, you can brag. If you get
it wrong, as long as it's not absurd, we won't
make fun of you. No, it's like a free pass
almost then we're Yeah, it's.
Speaker 3 (01:00:42):
Just kind of just throw it out there see if
it sticks against olthough I still bring them up when
Matt missus amro. I know you do all right.
Speaker 2 (01:00:47):
Gut feelings are up next to you, got any seven
one three two one two five seven ninety seven one
three two one two five seven ninety If you are
ready to cheer on our favorite volleyball team, you should
do that. Coming up on February the fifth, that's tomorrow
night at seven o'clock of the decoy that's just off
a Westview Drive for the Love Houston official watch party

seven o'clock at the Decoy just off of Westview for
the League One Volleyball LOVB Houston Watch Party. It's a
(01:01:33):
take on Austin tomorrow in the capital city. You know,
volleyball is the next major league and that major league
is League One Volleyball. For all the details lovb dot com.
And remember that party is tomorrow night at the Decoy
seven pm, Houston v. Austin for the watch party.
Speaker 3 (01:01:48):
Be there, listen up to you'll they got a good deal.
This is their gut feeling on Matt Thomas Show.
Speaker 2 (01:02:02):
Been one three two one two five, seven ninety. If
you've got something in you've got you want to make
a sports prediction, let's go seven one three two one
two five seven and ross.
Speaker 3 (01:02:11):
How do we do last week? Well, Matthew was a
mixed bag last week's gut feelings. We'll start with you
as you had the Cougars beating Tech and West Virginia. Well,
we'll see West Virginia tonight. You said, no, oh football,
(01:02:32):
they already be West Virginia lost to Tech. Oh okay,
well that's a shame. All right. Uh, let's see. You
also had it as the top five super watched super
Bowl ever yep, which would be interesting to see how
that turns out. You also have Bregman not an Astro. Yeah,
which is TVD. But now I feel like you're I
(01:02:53):
feel like we're still pretty good. You put excuse me, yeah,
you heard me. You put your name on it, put
my name on it. I think you're probably right. It's
a good one. Okay, thank you. Let's see I had
the Eagles winning the Super Bowl just a gut feeling. Okay,
we'll see if I stick with that. I had the
(01:03:14):
Rockets not having an All Star selected. Now I guess
that counts. I mean, I'm sorry, that's that's definitely an
l because Alprin Shingoon right selected as a reserve All Star.
Congratulations to m Yes, and I also have Bregman not
signing with the Astros. Memory serves. I said that, and
then you piggybacked. That's fine. I'm a pickybacker. Yeah. One
(01:03:37):
of the greatest of all time. Connor mcgovernor had the
Rockets winning their next three but losing to the Knicks.
I think they won one of those, and then they
have now lost three in a row. Yeah, thanks Connor.
And oh this is a good one. He had Gerard
Johnson as the next Texans OC which felt like a
solid bet, but they did not do that. Oh for
(01:03:59):
two there, And that's that's what I have in the archives.
I said, I said beat Rockets again, all star. Okay,
I must not have wrote that down. All right. I'm
gonna go I'm not the best archivist.
Speaker 2 (01:04:11):
I'm gonna say, Hope Springs Eternal Rockets beat the Nets tonight.
I can't put my name on it because we're not
one hundred percent here.
Speaker 3 (01:04:20):
But I feel bad anywhere close hashtag Hey, the Rockets
covered the spread last night. Nobody cares about that seven
and a half. Yeah. Uh you know what, I I
will put my name on it. What's up? Rockets win tonight?
Speaker 2 (01:04:34):
So I'm talking about kind of what you got for
tonight's Rockets Nets game.
Speaker 3 (01:04:38):
I'll say Rockets win. Okay, thank you? Very much. I'm
now we got Brighton Man on the show. I'm really
rooting hard for good punts. Really, I still think Kansas
City is better though. Mmm, although, tell me, is Kansasity's
(01:05:00):
run defense? Can they stop? Say Kwon Barkley? Can anybody
stop say Quon Barkley? The answer is, I think it's
moot Kansas City holding as the one and a half
point favorite. Boy, that's that's like a coin flip right
ross line opened at forty nine and a half down
(01:05:20):
to forty eight and a half.
Speaker 2 (01:05:23):
I will take the over in the Super Bowl is
a feeling, Okay, Okay.
Speaker 3 (01:05:31):
I think indoors. I think these teams are tired of
playing in the lousy weather. They're gonna enjoy playing where
it's nice, artificial turf, no wind to breeze to speak of.
Just the bad breath of people from New Orleans area
eating in that stadium. What, yeah, come on in that stadium.
You know the stank in that stadium? Yeah, says Matt Thomas.
(01:05:52):
So you think the people of New Orleans smell is
what you're saying. I'm not saying all of them do?
I mean? Are there gonna be how many Native New
Orleans lineans they're going to be in the building. That's
a great question. How many New Orleans tickets do they get?
Not many? Right, I'm going with an under hashtag fade
MT and I'm also going with them sticking with the
Eagles win. Are you really okay? I can't, I can't
(01:06:12):
make This is a gut feeling. He's a gut feeling.
It's fine, all right? And what else? Anything else? Connor that?
Where are we gonna get to Missouri basketball? Gut feeling?
In they beat Georgia, Georgia for my Super Bowl, I
will say the Chiefs win their third straight Super Bowl? Chiefs.
(01:06:35):
By the way, do you see what is what is
three peak trademarks? That the Chiefs can use it? And
didn't you have to charge them?
Speaker 4 (01:06:43):
Though?
Speaker 2 (01:06:44):
I don't know I should have charged the Astros when
I said crush City, but.
Speaker 3 (01:06:47):
You know you need to charge Manler. Mom, you've seen
the name of his podcast. What it is crust City pot,
isn't it it is? Oh yeah, I'm suing him. Room.
Speaker 2 (01:07:02):
If you're listening, you've been warned you'll be hearing from
my attorneys.
Speaker 3 (01:07:08):
Crush City podcast. Crush City Territory is what it's called. Okay,
same thing. I'm suing him multi million dollar deal there
all right? Oh guess Ross said who I think is
online one? It is who you think it is. He
might be just around the corner from me. You never know.
(01:07:34):
James on seven on me, James, what's in your gut
this week? My friend?
Speaker 7 (01:07:38):
Okay, I got the big game right here, because that's
that's where everybody's targets. Everybody's targets going on. Listen.
Speaker 3 (01:07:44):
I got the over as well.
Speaker 7 (01:07:46):
I have the chease winning twenty seven, twenty four. It
looks like that's how it's gonna be. And I also
have one of those prod bets. I have that guy
that everybody loves, the one that's you know that the
very vocal guy. He's gonna have five receptions seventy five yards.
And also one more thing, Governor Thomas.
Speaker 3 (01:08:09):
I want to make mention about this.
Speaker 7 (01:08:12):
Good feeling I got about Breakman. He's not gonna get
signed and too well into spring training because he's got
that ego going on and he's gonna mess him up
in the end, because I believe he has to go
to the Red Sox because the Astros are not going
to take him back they've already moved on. And because
of them holding that up, the GM from Boston, Peter
(01:08:34):
Lonzo can't go to either Boston or he can't go
to the Chicago Cubs.
Speaker 3 (01:08:38):
So that's my gut feelings for the week. And don't worry.
Speaker 7 (01:08:41):
The Rockets will beat the Brooklyn Nets. Because the Brooklyn Nets,
I'm like man polluted water. Thank you for taking my call,
Governor Thomas and everybody else, Thank you, James.

News the nut is coming up at about twelve minutes
from now.

it or not today at one fifty if you miss
our conversation with Brydon Man, the punter for the Eagles
with the sci Fair High School went to fight in Texas,
A and M. And we'll play some of that conversation
coming up in the one o'clock hour real quick. Our
friend Jones says that Gerard Johnson gone on his own accord,
even a lateral move. It's not been official, but Aaron
(01:12:45):
Wilson says he's gonna stay, So that may be a
gut feeling you lose. Bragman will find the right crisis
manager and publicist to accept the money isn't there and
will be an astro and then kick Scott Boris to
the curb. Could Scott be fired again? And back to
back years sports RV for it could happen free agency?
Speaker 3 (01:13:06):
Maybe what do you think those conversations are like what
are we waiting for? Are they waiting for some kind
of injury.
Speaker 2 (01:13:15):
I think it's a dangerous thing to do because if
you get an injury of a player, are you Are
you in the background saying I've got twenty nine million
dollars or twenty eight million dollars to pay for a
guy or folks to play for me that to replace
an injured player that suffered an injury during spring training.
I don't think that kind of moneys are sitting around.
Speaker 3 (01:13:33):
Yeah, I mean it helped Josh Hater Kendall Graveman going down. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:13:40):
I again, I think by next Monday, we'll we will
have a home for Alex Bregman. He just can't be
thinking about what was that a good feeling?
Speaker 3 (01:13:49):
Oh yeah, why not go over that?
Speaker 2 (01:13:51):
And Joan also says there will be another controversial call
favoring Kansas City get the Super Bowl?
Speaker 3 (01:13:58):
Isn't it like that in Texas? Basicallymiss calls happen in
every NFL game.
Speaker 2 (01:14:03):
Matt, I know, but the Kansas but America seems to
be super cranky when they always benefit Kansas City.
Speaker 3 (01:14:11):
Just throwing it out there. By the way, our seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (01:14:16):
Team, they're over an Astrovilt Today they're at dyke In
Park and they're eating free meal, which usually happens for
non members of the media who somehow get credentials.
Speaker 3 (01:14:28):
Okay, what do you mean usually happens? Well, I mean
like like full media that's not real media. They'd like
to go over there and say, hey.
Speaker 2 (01:14:35):
We'll take pictures of all your great food and you
give us a credential for the Astro season, and they
usually get it.
Speaker 3 (01:14:39):
So hmm, I mean it's what it is. Everybody's got
a game to play.
Speaker 2 (01:14:46):
So okay, to the point, yeah, I was trying to,
but you were you were What.
Speaker 3 (01:14:51):

the new uh list of game of what do you
call it? Themes for the season. Okay, they have their
hashtag unveiled.
Speaker 2 (01:15:05):
Uh No, I don't believe that is the case. Oh,
but I looked at them.
Speaker 3 (01:15:10):
I'm looking to see if wexer wex is big on
doing stuff like this. Here there was a theme night
for this. He's ticking all the pictures of the food. Oh,
I saw it, you know what, I goofed up. I
can't find it. There is.
Speaker 2 (01:15:21):
There's all the themes with the twenty twenty five season around,
and I don't have the listing in front of me.
Speaker 3 (01:15:27):
So can you stall for three seconds? Yes? Follow sports
mt on Twitter. He's trying to We're gonna have a

Yoga Day. Oh that's cool.
Speaker 2 (01:20:03):
I believe anybody in attendance, any women must go in
the game in yoga pants.
Speaker 3 (01:20:08):
Yeah, they give out a yoga man and then after
the game you can do a yoga class on the
field or something like that. Have you ever done any
hot yoga? Ross, I've not done any hot yoga. Now,
what's Diff's just in hot yoga and rigger yoga. It's
one hotter than the other.
Speaker 2 (01:20:21):
No, there's gotta be a reason to it.
Speaker 3 (01:20:23):
No, it's like steamy. It's like supposed to be. It's
kind of like going in a sauna and doing some yoga.
It's supposed to be good for the year.
Speaker 2 (01:20:28):
It's more intense yoga maybe, Yeah, so hot yoga's when
you're doing in a sauna. It's kind of a sauna

Speaker 3 (01:21:09):
Oh okay.
Speaker 2 (01:21:10):
There's some other days in the mix with those ones.
Speaker 3 (01:21:12):
You skip Pride Night six on June tenth. Yeah, that's
good because the Rangers don't do one. Yeah, there's a
Hispanic Heritage Night, wonderful fan Appreciation day there is. Let's
see what else is there? Faith and Family Night is
out there. Oh, wonderful Autism Awareness Night is good. That's good.
I was just talking about some of the funniers. Okay,
(01:21:33):
So Margarita Day, Margaritaville at the Ballpark street Fest. Favorite
Jimmy Buffetts song is I'm gonna keep it simple. Go ahead, Margaritaville.
I'm going to come Onday. That souk sucks. You just
always want to go against what's the best.
Speaker 2 (01:21:53):
Hot yoga apparently is a hotter room with specific poses.
Regular yoga is a regular room and movement through poses. Yeah,
you know what, This show gives you more yoga conversation.
Any other show in the marketplace.
Speaker 3 (01:22:10):
Can get you doing some yoga. Man, get your flexibility up.
I'm very flexible. I've heard you're very stiff.

twelve o five anh dawn.
Speaker 2 (01:24:03):
What's happing? Lunch timers. Welcome to the third hour of
the Mac Thomas Show. NFL re won in one half hour.
But right now we present to you as we do
each and every day around this time, the news at noon.
Speaker 3 (01:24:20):
With that you're sports Harvy. All right, Matt, appreciate that
we got a lot going on here in the world
of news. We'll go ahead and start with the Houston
Texans naming Nick Kayley their offensive coordinator. Here's a friend
of the show, Tom pallisera on some background on him.
Here's forty two years old.
Speaker 9 (01:24:40):
Has been in the mix for other offensive coordinator jobs
here in recent years important to know Bobby Sloka course
kve with Tamiko Ryans from San Francisco, learned under the
Kyle Shanahan motive offense Kaylee, that's another branch of the
same tree, learning under Sean mcvayh here. So probably not
a huge departure Ian in terms of what they're doing.
Harry Bobby Slick moving on with something they felt like
(01:25:02):
they had to do and they think they've got the
right man to fill.
Speaker 3 (01:25:04):
That Boyd Nick Kim Nick Kayley, forty two years old,
was a is a graduate of John Carroll, the same
university as Nick Cassario, but does have a good resume.
Offensive assistant with the Patriots. Also was with the La
Rams as tight end coach in twenty three, tight ends
coach and past game coordinator in twenty twenty four. Now
(01:25:28):
bumped up to offensive coordinator for the Houston Texans. Also
of note, a two time a Super Bowl champion.
Speaker 2 (01:25:34):
Yeah sounds good, good pedigree, been around great coaches, is
a bright mind.
Speaker 3 (01:25:39):
Everybody the university thinks it's a good decision. He was
a guy was being brought up in many different jobs.
Sounds good. I don't want to overthink it. I don't
want to discuss, discuss over and over again if that's boring,
as you know what, but you know what sounds good,
can what seem to do with things? And just remember, in.
Speaker 2 (01:25:54):
The first four weeks of the Texans offense stalls, you'll
get all the blame. And if they're awesome the next
four weeks, then he'll be a head coach.
Speaker 3 (01:26:01):
Before you know it. Bobby Slock, of course, Matt, of
the Shanahan They're both kind off the Shanahan tree, but
Bobby Slock more of the outside zone running scheme, more
of the duo gap scheme run by Sean McVay and
the LA rams. Your thoughts on how that impacts the
Houston Texans going forward, Matt, I'm not prepared at this point.
I've not had a deep analytical thought. Oh, okay, you're
working on it. I get you've been busy, you've been traveling.
(01:26:22):
That's okay, let's move on. Let's go to the other
big news that happened, of course, over the weekend, with
Luka Doncic becoming an LA Laker. He had his press
conference today and he said even when he found out,
he did not believe it.
Speaker 10 (01:26:38):
Everybody was surprised, So you can imagine how surprised I was.
I was almost aslip so when I got a call,
I had to check it was it was April first.
I didn't really believe it at first, and it was.
It was a bit shock. It was hard moments for me.
It was it was home. So it was really hard
moments for me, especially the first day. As I said,
(01:27:01):
you know, I get to play in the greatest club
in the world, and I'm excited to what is this
in Journey.
Speaker 3 (01:27:07):
He thought it was April fools when he found out
he was getting traded to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Speaker 2 (01:27:13):
So everybody, that's why, that's that's when a move is
so crazy that it's gonna We're gonna.
Speaker 3 (01:27:19):
I don't think Ross.
Speaker 2 (01:27:20):
Will ever forget about this, Like I think there are
Dallas Dallas Cowboy fans. I have not forgotten how good
they got it with the Tree, with hershel Walker in Minnesota,
helping out of those first round picks and Ultimate ultimately
turning into.
Speaker 3 (01:27:33):
A Super Bowl champions. On a much more smaller local scale, We'll.
Speaker 2 (01:27:39):
Never forget the day that DeAndre Hopkins got traded.
Speaker 3 (01:27:43):
We'll never forget that. But that to but This to
me is the earth stopped in its axis and didn't
rotate for a few seconds when we found out that
Nolie Sham's put that out there, but we order to
make sure that Shams was not having his account manipulated
by somebody. Yeah. I was in disbelief. Even when he
quoted himself saying he wasn't hacked and it was real,
I was like, no, that's not real. Even Shams himself
(01:28:05):
said he thought that his phone was hacked when he
was getting the details of the trade. Right, that's exactly right.
Crazy Nico Harrison all timer pulled by the Dallas Mavericks
as actually they have made another move mat, a minor trade.
But the seventy six Ers trading Caleb Martin to the
Dallas Mavericks.
Speaker 2 (01:28:26):
Good for them. So Sixers should start dumping players.
Speaker 3 (01:28:31):
Yeah they might. So it could be Paul George on
the move at some point for the seventy six ers.
We know that Daryl Morey, he gets that itch. He
likes this moving shake around this time. Mat.
Speaker 2 (01:28:40):
Oh, yeah, it's funny because rafel Stone it doesn't have
that itch. And Darryl was basically the you know, taught
a lot of how rafel how to run an operation.
Speaker 3 (01:28:50):
So being like it's one of his top lieutenants. So
speaking of go ahead, Sorry, I'm sorry for cutting off. Yeah,
speaking of the Houston Rockets and rafel Stone, that breinges
the story in news item Matt on the News at noon,
Houston Rockets with the one to twenty four to one
to eighteen loss last night, forty six points, giving up
in the fourth quarter, three straight games lost. Coachy Doka
(01:29:12):
not pulling punches in the postgame media availability.
Speaker 11 (01:29:15):
I don't think it was room protection. I think it
was one on one defense. I have forty six point quarter. Uh,
you know, we scored twenty nine, we scored one to eighteen.
We scored enough points to win, but very soft and
uncompetitive defensively and just going at us one on one,
and we're complaining about offensive fouls, not boxing out, not
(01:29:37):
doing our assignment getting back cut off ball actions adds.
Speaker 3 (01:29:42):
Up to forty six and so scored enough to win.
Coach not missing words. Yeah, you know, remember I broadcast
an eight hundred level at Madison Square Guard, which is
the second the highest level at the arena. Okay, and
with I'm calling the game by myself, I'm literally just
watching the ball. Do you travel with binoculars? You no,
(01:30:05):
but I probably should because some NBA guys, because I
think Craig uses binoculars.
Speaker 4 (01:30:09):
Right.
Speaker 3 (01:30:10):
Sometimes there's about three or four places that I always
should use binoculars.
Speaker 2 (01:30:14):
The problem is if you use binoculars, it kind of
you take them off. Then you kind of lose the
sense of where you are on the court. So I
don't use them there, but I probably should. There's this
in Orlando. Are the two highest spots.
Speaker 3 (01:30:24):
I mean to call it. When's your birthday coming up?
I'm gonna get some some minos.
Speaker 2 (01:30:27):
No, no, I've got I've got a good set. But
thank you though, just give me cash June fifth. But
here's my point. I don't see a lot of that
hands in the air. I can't believe I was not fouled.
A foul wasn't called.
Speaker 3 (01:30:42):
Do you notice that when you watch the Rockets there's
a lot of it usually on the other side. I
put one of the tweets. I mean, the last night
was like the rockets physicality frustrates their opponents every night,
and that is I think it ends up going both ways.
Because the Rockets are so physical as a nature, they
get away with hand checks. They get away with pushes, shoves,
shoves and all that stuff all night long. Because of
(01:31:03):
how physical they are. The referees are like, We're not
going to call a foul on every single play. So
I think there is a baseline level of physicality that
ups the level ups in a Rockets game, and then
it kind of does come back on the Rockets too,
and I think they do get frustrated. But I saw
more frustration from Nicks players than than Rockets players. But
there was some complaining to the referees they were letting
(01:31:25):
them play last night. They really were Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:31:27):
Again to me, I have to it has to be
so blatantly obvious that I would stop a game called
to say what happened was going on there?
Speaker 3 (01:31:34):
I will tell you this.
Speaker 2 (01:31:35):
I don't know if you guys picked up on this
last night, for those of you that watched the game,
I saw the worst challenge ever.
Speaker 3 (01:31:40):
In the history of the NBA last night. Top of
Thibodeau of the Knicks, there was a scramble at mid court.
Was it? It was Brunson and a men. Thompson and
a men went to go poke the ball away. Yes,
on Jalen Brunson, it trickled to the sideline. It was
called a jump ball. If you look at the.
Speaker 2 (01:32:01):
Instant replay, the ball was last touched by Brunson's left hand.
So maybe Tom Thibodau, the coach of the Knicks, was
looking to see if there was a foul gonna there should.
Speaker 3 (01:32:12):
Have been called a men got call ball though, So
the Knicks challenges not only Ross. Did they lose the
challenge and lose the possession of the ball, Yes, they
would have had it, at worst case a jump ball. Instead,
no jump ball, lost the possession and no foul called
in a men Thompson and they lost their challenge. Wow,

Back to Matt Thomas and Ross via Real Fine Fine
Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (01:34:43):
All right, Rossi Connor, we need to hit the breaking
news sounder.
Speaker 3 (01:34:56):
That's it. That's one. Oh, that's it. My favorite tweets
over the weekend when the Luca thing, Hey, we got
a tweet that said, that's sixth. The high water mark
is five. Yeah, that's correct, But that was we was joking.
Yeah we don't we. I mean, if there was such
a thing as a six, it'd be pretty damn close.
That is a loyal Matt Thomas listener to tweet that,
(01:35:18):
So I appreciate, you know, I should actually go find
him his name and give him a shout out. Yeah,
good found who it is. Well, and I'll retweet him
all right because that was hilarious.
Speaker 2 (01:35:29):
Here it is the twenty twenty five theme for Houston Astros.
Speaker 3 (01:35:34):
Space pay here. Here we go. Hashtag built for this. Hmm.
That's fine, hmm, hashtag built for this.
Speaker 2 (01:35:57):
You know I have never and look, I work for
a team at as you know, all these sports teams
in town. Everybody, everybody creates these little clever phrases. I've
just never been one for them because they don't really
do much for you if you don't win.
Speaker 3 (01:36:11):
Right, Yes, I mean it was j mart four or
five four by the way, James, appreciate you with that's
sixth week.
Speaker 2 (01:36:19):
That's what I'm talking about right there. Yeah, it's I'm
not a big I'm not a big hashtager. Now I'll
add a group of people that I want to make
sure they see what I'm saying about them normally it's good,
But I'm not a hashtager.
Speaker 3 (01:36:33):
Built for this. But we sold off a piece in
right field for this as well.
Speaker 2 (01:36:38):
Yeah, but we built the new corners of the infield
beautifully I think.
Speaker 3 (01:36:41):
For now.
Speaker 2 (01:36:43):
Okay, tell me that, tell me you wouldn't be excited
about a Bregman and Walker third to first combo over
and over and over again.
Speaker 3 (01:36:50):
That'd be nice. I just don't think it's gonna happen,
but it could tell me.
Speaker 2 (01:36:54):
You wouldn't be excited for a little Isak predes to
Christian Walker third to first comedy. Although we have not
seen Predius play defensively much right, Mm?
Speaker 3 (01:37:04):
No, we a little scared. No, I don't think so. Okay,
I'll pull up. We can pull up the advanced stats
for you, man, if you like.
Speaker 2 (01:37:13):
You can if you want to. By the way, an
NBA rumor is out involving the Rockets. I just saw this, okay,
from whom for your tab is not terrible?
Speaker 3 (01:37:21):
By the way, it's not great. You gotta be careful.
It's all you got to do. You just have to
carefully curiate it. I've muted thousands of accounts and I
just keep doing it. Yeah, all right, here we go.
Speaker 2 (01:37:32):
Sam amck, front of the show rights for the Athletic
mm hmm, says the leak. Sources said the Lakers have
had talks about acquiring big Man Stephen Adams from the Rockets.
Oh really, he's an expiring deal worth twelve and a
half million dollars. And while the two signs have been
significantly apart, with no signs that a deal will actually
get done. Those talks offered some clarity as to what
(01:37:56):
Polinka has been thinking. All of my LA friends rossing
are saying the Lakers ain't done.
Speaker 3 (01:38:02):
I think they're not. I agree they need a big man,
they do.
Speaker 2 (01:38:06):
They absolutely need a legit rim protector, somebody that's gonna
go up and grab some rebounds, blocks a.
Speaker 3 (01:38:15):
Few shots, at least put a hand up in the air. Yeah,
but guess what the Rockets need, Steven Adams.
Speaker 2 (01:38:20):
Rockets because here's the thing, and Alpi might be back,
you know, you know, I hope maybe even tonight, maybe hopefully.
Adams doesn't play for you every single day, So I mean,
he's really good, but I don't know if necessarily you
can rely him every single night.
Speaker 3 (01:38:37):
Yeah, he's good in the paint in the restricted area,
but I mean he can't get out there in the
perimeter like he he doesn't even bother. He's doing it
a little bit more lately, but start of the season especially,
he didn't bother getting on the preimeter at all. Like
he'd been giving up a lot of wide open three
point looks. He just can't move No, he's not.
Speaker 2 (01:38:52):
He That's the thing is you're gonna the only time
it comes out is to set screens, and that's on
the offense.
Speaker 3 (01:38:56):
Yeah, he's not very mobile, so I don't think he's
the answer the lakers problems.
Speaker 2 (01:39:01):
It is showing you that the Lakers are looking at least.
Speaker 3 (01:39:03):
Trying to kick tires on something. A good backup, like
you said, he said, bone crushing screens. And he can
get rebounds and put backs, and he's got value, a
little push shot, hook shot in the middle of the
lane when you need him to. He scares me on
the bus. Yeah, he's an enforcer. He's got value. But
I don't I wouldn't guess that the Lakers needed to
(01:39:23):
start him. If they do that, you are going to
be limited defensively with him. Yeah, and he's not a
thirty minute guy, and at this point in his NBA
career he just not. But you know, I would hate
to see him leave.
Speaker 2 (01:39:32):
But I mean, yeah, I think the Rockets are looking
for some interior help too. I don't know if they're
necessarily And again, no one's telling me this. I'm just
telling you based off of the vibe I get from
the score sheets. Is that they'd like to have something
a little more, a little more fluid than the.
Speaker 3 (01:39:50):
Adams slash Landout combination.
Speaker 2 (01:39:53):
Yeah, what's kind of with Jack Landel? By the way,
he was ill the last couple of days or is
the kid say illan m. You can't put Ellen on
the injury.
Speaker 3 (01:40:03):
Because the injury report I saw was not with team.
I have I have seen him, Okay, I mean I
don't think.
Speaker 2 (01:40:10):
I mean when they say not with Tina, not like
literally not with the team, but like not in the building.
Speaker 3 (01:40:14):
So he missed me feeling very good. Well, there was
something going around. There's the illnesses, right, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:40:19):
Would you let me ask you this and I'll stay
out of this one. Would you trade Cam Whitmore maybe
a low risk I mean, in other words, a low
stock that might seem to increase in value in putting
the right situation.
Speaker 3 (01:40:34):
I think, yeah, I like Cam Whitmore, but a tradable piece,
but a tradable piece.
Speaker 2 (01:40:43):
If you got a better backup four slash five.
Speaker 3 (01:40:48):
For Kim Whitmore, would you move him? Mmmmm? I think
you need you need the bench scoring that Cam Whitmore provides.
Speaker 2 (01:40:59):
Yeah, it's t taria three or four in your mind.
Speaker 3 (01:41:02):
It doesn't matter. He's a he's more of a wing,
so I guess I would say more of a three.
He's not a big man, okay, yeah, but he can
guard four us. He's like, he's just like a hybrid
type guy. When he's knocking down threes and getting buckets,
he's good.
Speaker 2 (01:41:18):
Hell, if you got a men Thompson at six seven
playing the four and was successful, you ain't worry about
what's behind him.
Speaker 3 (01:41:23):
Yeah. But men Thompson is also absolute freak of nature.
He can get muscled up and still black shots. I'll
tell you everybody.
Speaker 2 (01:41:29):
He had that one dunk last night.
Speaker 3 (01:41:31):
I saw was watching the game.
Speaker 2 (01:41:34):
The entire arena was like, who is this freak of nature?
Speaker 3 (01:41:40):
He had a freaking twenty five point triple double. Yeah
he is. He is the face of this franchise. Ooh
say that again, Maddie. He is the face of this friend. Wow.
It may not be this exact exactly, Okay, but he's
going to be there. Okay. I'm I mean, I gut
feeling months ago that he was gonna have the best
(01:42:01):
career of anybody in the young Core.
Speaker 2 (01:42:04):
Yeah yeah, all right, NFL rewind is coming up next.
This is where Ross goes.
Speaker 3 (01:42:08):
Deep into the his NFL contexts, his sauces. No, I'm
not doing that. You're just gonna rip and read a
couple headlines. It's fine, all right.
Speaker 2 (01:42:20):
One three two one two five seven ninety seven one
three two one two five twelve twenty eight.
Speaker 3 (01:42:25):
It is the time.
Speaker 2 (01:42:26):
The station is Sports Talk seven ninety. The radio sugar
listening to is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross and
the phone number to join us about anything, rockets, trades, Bregman, astros.
What I call what is the built for this? It's
not bad, right, We'll say it. If I say it
five million times, that's fine.
Speaker 3 (01:42:42):
You know, the show's built for this. Seven one three
two one two five seven ninety Matt Thomas, Ross Uriel.
It's the Matt Thomas Show with Ross on Sports Talk
seven ninety is Sports Shock seven hunting.
Speaker 2 (01:43:03):
Our time is twelve thirty two, and it's time for
us as ever we do every Tuesday.
Speaker 3 (01:43:06):
For fifty two weeks this year, even when Ross is gone.
Speaker 2 (01:43:11):
We owe it to you, the city of Houston, to
give you, because no one else talks NFL and this
twent except us, to give you the NFL.
Speaker 3 (01:43:17):
Rewind that's true, Matt, but we actually do have a
little bit of breaking news. It's not huge. It's a
one yeah, I think one sounder fire that back off?
You know what?
Speaker 4 (01:43:29):
Give me two?
Speaker 3 (01:43:30):
Actually what The Houston Astros will be retiring a number
number thirteen for Billy Wagner. Hm hmm, Matt, your your
gut reaction. Good for him. How many years was he
(01:44:00):
Houston astro? Seven or eight?
Speaker 2 (01:44:03):
I'll look it up right now as you run through
the NFL.
Speaker 3 (01:44:05):
We wint okay, well, I'm yeah, just I'll take in
ten seconds here, nine years, I got it. That was
You're fast, Thank you. I try to be nine years. Yeah,
nine years being a closer. Yeah, that's good. Lance Bergman
was a Houston Astro for twelve years. Oh. Lance does
(01:44:26):
not have his retired yet. He does not, Ladies, gentlemen,
unavailable tonight due to a previous commitment.
Speaker 2 (01:44:36):
One of Billy Wagner's teammates, Lance Berkman.
Speaker 3 (01:44:39):
M all right, So obviously a lot of the NFL
rewind having to do with the Super Bowl going on
this weekend. Matt. I'm so well, let's start with this
one actually, because it's interesting. Apparently Tom Brady will take
part in the production meetings. As we have talked about
on this show. As a partial owner of a team,
(01:45:01):
he's not supposed to be allowed to interview coaches and players,
not supposed to be allowed to be with teams as
far as practices as well. But he is supposed to
have for the Super Bowl access that any other broadcaster
will have.
Speaker 2 (01:45:20):
I mean, if you're gonna let him continue to do it,
you might as well do it the right way, and
talking to coaches and talking to players personally about the
game he's about to call is the right way to
do it.
Speaker 3 (01:45:31):
I feel like these rules should be enforced in the
regular season, but especially when the Raiders aren't in the playoffs,
which they usually aren't, then it should be fair game. Yeah.
I don't think this is again I will.
Speaker 2 (01:45:43):
I'm not gonna fall off my notion that ultimately Tom's
gonna own.
Speaker 3 (01:45:49):
A bigger part of the team. It's going to force
him to ultimately fox he doesn't finish out this deal,
but for now, where he's currently at owning a very
small sliver, let.
Speaker 2 (01:45:59):
Him talk to the players, coaches, people were openly recruiting.
Because I guarantee if somebody in the room heard Tom
Brady openly recruiting these players that go play for the Raiders.
The NFL would send the alarms off in a millisecond.
Speaker 3 (01:46:12):
I would agree with that. All right, let's keep it moving,
but we're gonna stick with the Super Bowl. A friend
of the show. Okay, maybe he's not a friend of
the show. Travis Kelcey, in his media availability, was asked
one question that he would flip the other way. What
question would you ask the media, Travis Kelsey, if I if.
Speaker 4 (01:46:32):
I could ask the media one question, why are you
guys leaning into this whole ref thing?
Speaker 3 (01:46:42):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 4 (01:46:42):
Like, why are you guys leaning into it? That's all
I got.
Speaker 3 (01:46:45):
Though, Matt He asked you, a media member, why are
you leaning into the ref thing? Your answer, I'm not
leaning into it. I'm actually fatigued about it. Hmmm.
Speaker 2 (01:46:59):
I think when the miccope is on the most recognizable
team right now in the NFL, everybody thinks that they're
getting a bunch of calls their way. They may have
gotten a few breaks here and there, but Buffalo had
multiple chances ross to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs in
that AMC Championship game, and their defense was unable.
Speaker 3 (01:47:16):
To do it. I would agree with that peering in
his story. I also think it's ridiculous to think they
would the entire all thirty two teams would rig the
league for Kansas City. Yes, to be the driving force
in the face of this storied league. Yes. I also
think that the bottom line is they've done studies on
(01:47:39):
this for years. One of the benefits of home field
advantage is you get more calls. And guess what. Who's
been the one seed basically every year? The last few years,
it's been Kansas City.
Speaker 2 (01:47:50):
There's been a lot of games in arrowheally to the state
of Missouri for the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (01:47:54):
Kansas City has been the one seed basically almost every year.
And when you're the home team, you tend to get
or calls.
Speaker 2 (01:48:00):
And guess what they did? Didn't go to Kansas City,
go to beat Buffalo this year? We did Buffalo In
that game Buffer Cannas did.
Speaker 3 (01:48:06):
Now Buffalo won in Buffalo. They only had one loss,
Is that right? That was to Buffalo in Buffalo? Okay,
well gonna believe did Wait? Am I wrong on that? No?
Their only regular season loss I thought was to the
Bills in the regular season. Oh yeah, and they lost
at Denver in the last week. I'm sorry. Yeah, the
Denver in the last week, I'm sorry. So the only
real loss is what I mean, I was gonna say
what they Yeah, remember seventeenth they lost in Buffalo. I
(01:48:27):
mean they were fifteen and twotor in the regular season fifteen.
There were fifteen other teams or in this case in
some cases, eleven other teams that are in the.
Speaker 2 (01:48:36):
Division had a chance to upend the Chiefs and put
them down the spot.
Speaker 3 (01:48:39):
In the playoff ladder to allow a team like Buffalo,
or a team like Cincinnati, or a team like Baltimore
to have number one seen the home Texans. Texans didn't
have to go ten and seven. No one said they
owed the Texans a ten and seven mark. They should
have won thirteen games. By the way, it was also
a tough results for rest versus rust. Guy who thinks
they were gonna be rusty. They were off for three
(01:49:00):
whole weeks and now they're in Super Bowl. Oh my gosh. Yeah,
that's too bad, man, It's a shame.
Speaker 2 (01:49:06):
Yeah, I just I think it's sports topics sometimes become
fatigued to me, like they are for anybody, and I
think the officials trying to help the Chiefs. He who
doesn't care if the Chiefs from the Super Bowl the
other thirty one NFL teams.
Speaker 3 (01:49:21):
No, you think Jerry Jones like, yeah, let's rig it
front of the Chiefs. Is that how Jerry Jones sounds? Yeah?
How you Matt? I don't have time to jack with
you today? He sounds older and slower. You sound like
somebody else. I can't remember. Put my finger on it.
By the way, as we go along in the NFL,
rewind Matt. Andy Reid has confirmed he will continue to
(01:49:45):
coach the Chiefs. He is sixty seven or will be
in March, second oldest coach in the NFL, behind Pete Carroll.
Peek Carroll Now the Raiders, you know, and that is correct?
Who is seventy three? So he says, though he will
be back for the twenty twenty five seas and coaching
in his sixth Super Bowl. Andy Reid one of the
all time greats.
Speaker 2 (01:50:05):
Let me talk about Andy Reid's schedule. He doesn't put
in forty hours in a week.
Speaker 3 (01:50:10):
I disagree.
Speaker 2 (01:50:11):
He works a little bit on Monday, doesn't even check
the facility on Tuesday, Wednesday, full day, Thursday, full day.
Speaker 3 (01:50:19):
Friday, he leaves it. You know what he works. He works,
He works bankers hours. Ain't no way that's why he's
so good. Ross. No, I don't believe that his offense
is so good. I think he's studying a ton of tape.
I know he's a studier. All right, Well, let's keep
it moving, Matt. Onto the super Bowl ticket prices. So
last week the initial get in price sixty three hundred
(01:50:44):
and seventy five dollars. Yeah, those prices according to a
reseller that does not spend money with us, So I
won't mention him in the tradition of the Matt Tommy
show way with Ross by the way, now down to
sixteen hundred dollars to get in. Prices for the top
tickets also down by nearly three thirty thousand dollars. So
(01:51:05):
as we have seen in the years past in the
Super Bowl tickets plunging sixty three hundred get in price
a week ago, now down to sixteen hundred.
Speaker 2 (01:51:14):
You know why that is, in my opinion, why is
that they were just priced too high to begin with. Yeah,
that was just that was just a bad guess on
the ticket brokers to think what.
Speaker 3 (01:51:22):
The perceived value would have been. Yeah, by the way,
two star hotels. Sorry, I most read that by the
way down by sixteen hundred, so under four thousand get
in from sixty three hundred.
Speaker 2 (01:51:37):
Yeah, that's that feels about right, my bad two star
hotels in New Orleans. That would be like your run
for rins mm hmm.
Speaker 3 (01:51:45):
Your Joe Lintas are going for five to twenty five
at night. That's two star, doesn't New Orleans has some
of the most hotel rooms in the country, right, correct,
Vegas one and then it's like there, I think top
five ish? Uh, New Orleans, Orlando, Vegas, New York l
(01:52:08):
A okay, yeah, could Google search says La Las Vegas
is number one.
Speaker 2 (01:52:15):
Yeah, five twenty five a night for rorinta mm hmmm.
Speaker 3 (01:52:19):
Which is Spanish for next to the rainies. What about
the Airbnb?
Speaker 2 (01:52:23):
I don't even know you're you're more of an expert.
I've never rented an Airbnb. And what's the hair is
looking like? H you mean the Caesars now, oh, I'm sorry, yes, Caesars.
Speaker 3 (01:52:31):
The Bleezers.
Speaker 2 (01:52:33):
That's probably no. I wonder where how much the hotel
is where we stay for the.
Speaker 3 (01:52:37):
Rockets, how much has costed? That's a lot. That's probably
gonna be about three grand in now. I love New Orleans.
Wish we were there. Gordy's there though, is he he's
out in the office today. Uh No, he's there today.
I believe he don't know. Maybe he's on the way. Yeah,
I think he's leaving today. Maybe yeah, who knows, he's
(01:52:57):
very tomorrow. You're mad about town, guess right the top
shelf and if you organic sponsor plays, sure, get you
good people on, get you good people on right, absolutely
all right? And that's is that the is it for?
That's your NFL. Rewind Man, nice, nicely done, Ross appreciate you. Uh,
(01:53:20):
I shouldn't do it.
Speaker 2 (01:53:22):
I didn't ask Brydon Man if he had some tickets
to give us, that would have been right. Come on,
I couldn't have gone anyway. I have a Rockets game
at one o'clock. I guess I could have really gotten
there quickly.
Speaker 3 (01:53:33):
One game ends at four three twenty down the four thirty.
I guess like no, i'd have been too close. Maybe
next year, maybe next year, maybe sometime when the Texans
getting there. Okay, battle red one can happen. Nick Kayley
taking to the Texans to the promised land in Kaylee,
(01:53:54):
we trust.
Speaker 2 (01:53:56):
Yes, should the Texans put Nick Fly into the Texans
Ring of Honor without.
Speaker 3 (01:54:02):
Even coaching a game?
Speaker 6 (01:54:03):
Now?
Speaker 3 (01:54:06):
I think he should be. I mean he has been
talked about.
Speaker 2 (01:54:09):
Is the greatest offensive mine walking this God's.
Speaker 3 (01:54:13):
Green Earth of ours? I think he is. I can't
wait to see what he does.
Speaker 2 (01:54:17):
All right, twelve forty three, here's the time we're with
you at two o'clock.
Speaker 3 (01:54:21):
Ross. What is today's edition of Believer or Not coming up?
Actually it will be. You're gonna be surprised. New York City.
I checked the archives, which go back to twenty sixteen.
Oh really, we have not done New York City at
least in sixteen, probably early in the years of the show. Okay,
which those are lost to time.
Speaker 2 (01:54:38):
We haven't played any wfan liners. We've played New York
specific songs today. Oh yeah, Connor, I'm only going to
be here for another hour.
Speaker 3 (01:54:47):
In fifteen minutes. Gosh, what's New York this year? Is
a very busy young man? What's he doing back there?
I've been making him cut my audio because my computer's
messed up.
Speaker 2 (01:54:54):
Oh so you're saying that because of malfunctions in our
studio we've never had before. More work on our producers
who are underpaid and work it overworked. Yeah, sorry, Fair
twelve forty four, Sports Talk seven ninety We with you
to two o'clock today seven one three, two, one two
five seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (01:55:14):
Ride half the workday is done. Celebrate with minute. Hey, Matt,
love your sell by the son of It. Some of
you started the party at breakfast.
Speaker 6 (01:55:24):
Matt Thomas on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (01:55:33):
ROSSI this is the definitive song, right, the number one
New York song. Yes, number two. You're gonna disagree with me,
go ahead, Empire state of Mind. I believe them today
by What's your Name? Jay Z and Alicia Keynese. I
(01:55:54):
like that song.
Speaker 2 (01:55:56):
When the Knicks win a game in Madison Square Garden.
You know a song they play this? No oh the Knicks,
Oh it's the Yankees play this? Yeah, uh Billy Joel Yeah,
New York State of Mind.
Speaker 3 (01:56:09):
Yeah, that's a great one. I put that third.
Speaker 2 (01:56:11):
Yeah, it's good.
Speaker 3 (01:56:14):
Of course we put Sneaky on the list, Matt. Is
that James Brown down and out in New York City.
We're gonna to play that game? Well, quit play that
at the one o'clock Absolutely.
Speaker 2 (01:56:21):
With some of my Dulca tones are calling the game.
Speaker 3 (01:56:23):
Oh jeez, I mean, I mean, I can't. I can't.
Speaker 2 (01:56:29):
I can't waste the descriptions on just the evening audience,
got it, The mid time midday.
Speaker 3 (01:56:33):
Shows got to hear it as well. That's true.
Speaker 8 (01:56:35):
Man.
Speaker 3 (01:56:36):
We should get your calls on a loop and put
it on a podcast. You know, we gotta do it.
Speaker 2 (01:56:40):
We got to, like I can just like randomly call
y'all and text your calls in my game.
Speaker 3 (01:56:45):
You're down and not a tough day at work? Oh,
we can do. No sleep till Brooklyn. Ooh bec boys
for tomorrow. No matter what happens, we gotta play that.
Speaker 2 (01:56:55):
Can you name the TV show in the seventies that
was based out of Brooklyn?
Speaker 4 (01:57:01):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (01:57:02):
B J and the Bear. Nope, you won't like some
more hints? Uh Good Times? No, I mean yeah, Good Times.
Weren't they in New York? They were? They were Chicago. Oh,
I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:57:14):
Know, featured an ensemble cast that one of the members
of the cast became a mega movie star Silver Spoons. No, no, o,
that's not bad. I mean that's good good, that's a
nice rando.
Speaker 3 (01:57:30):
Pick. I don't know. Welcome back Conner. Oh okay, yeah,
that was in New York. That was in Brooklyn. Wow,
this this I put up a list of best New
York songs. This time Out magazine has them at in
New York. State of Mine eighteenth. It's not a uh,
it's not a jam. It's kind of a it's a
(01:57:50):
slow build if you will, it's all it's not.
Speaker 2 (01:57:52):
I wouldnt say it's lullaby. Would you even call it that?
Would you?
Speaker 3 (01:57:56):
Uh? Crooner, it's crooney? Yeah, I got it. All right.
Speaker 2 (01:58:04):
Let's see what else were got going on eighty today?
He said he's over the trade, he's ready to play
for the Mavericks.
Speaker 3 (01:58:10):
Well he's got no other choice. Yeah, so you got
here from La to Dallas.
Speaker 2 (01:58:16):
Yeah, I mean it's not nearly as Cosmo. By the way,
both Anthony Davis and Luka Doncic recently purchased and or
built new homes in their old cities. Yes, I think
Lucas was fifteen million dollars in Dallas, And I want.
Speaker 3 (01:58:34):
To say, what is fifteen million dollars in Dallas? Get you?
I think eighties was thirty four million in California. Oh
my god? Did he buy a city? Well, I mean
he's the owner of Grand Prairie, Texas.
Speaker 2 (01:58:46):
Now, Luka doncic, I bet you could build fifteen million
dollars in universe.
Speaker 3 (01:58:50):
Yeah, that's true. I mean there was. Yeah, there's a
big money over there in Dallas. If there were rokes.
It's called University Park. Same thing is that where he
bought it?
Speaker 2 (01:58:58):
My god, I don't know where it is, but I mean,
my guess has probably gotta be ten eleven thousand square
feet give or take.
Speaker 3 (01:59:03):
Right, Wow, fifteen million Texas now fifteen million, and that's
like a three bedroom in La. Right, that's right. So
let me. I'm gonna give you an analogy.
Speaker 2 (01:59:18):
Remember when I stayed in Minnesota, I thought I was
going to and I bought that really nice snowblower, h
and I had to sell it on pennies and the
dollar because of the fact that I was moving back
to Texas. Is my snowblower, Luca Doncis's fifteen million dollar house.
Speaker 3 (01:59:35):
It's exactly the same. Matt, what a great analogy. Thank you.
Speaker 2 (01:59:38):
It's only taking me but years and years of giving
you analogies.
Speaker 3 (01:59:42):
And I'm not being sarcastic at all.
Speaker 2 (01:59:44):
No, he bought the krem Della creme of what he
thought it was going to be his home.
Speaker 3 (01:59:51):
I can't imagine the exact same as you buying a
little little snowblower. Stay with me on this, please, I
was wondering how you were going to tie this into yourself.
I don't know. Maybe I'm just roadwary. Yeah, you're right.
I mean nine nine games and nine no, no, and
nine games in eight cities, right because to them in
(02:00:11):
New York, well yeah, because you count Houston as to
say it was just a road trip. Absolutely, it was
a one game homestand that's not a home stand.
Speaker 2 (02:00:18):
I went home, so that's a home visit. Man called
the game going back on the road.
Speaker 3 (02:00:22):
We don't need to know about what you did at home,
all right, Why, I mean, I fed the dogs, kiss
the babies, and it's ahead of my kids. My wife.
Well you said, wham bam.
Speaker 2 (02:00:32):
Oh, that's try to do that too. Yeah, I just
I don't know what. I'm ready to come home. You
may want to mark this down on the all time
list here.
Speaker 3 (02:00:42):
M hmm. I'm actually I kind of miss you. Oh man,
I'm gonna I'm gonna give you a great, big old
hug when you get hopefully I'll be over my cough
by then, the longest cough human.
Speaker 2 (02:00:51):
He's not come back to the studio until you fill
one hundred percent. I don't need you give me these germs.
I'm gonna to dodge most of the illnesses so far
this year.
Speaker 3 (02:01:00):
I'm feeling stronger every day. Matt. Okay, you sound better
than you had in the last couple of days. Thank you.
Speaker 2 (02:01:06):
I mean, I mean your information still is subpartient. That's okay, right.
Speaker 3 (02:01:10):
Uh, It's twelve fifty six.
Speaker 2 (02:01:13):
On the radio program, we will unfortunately have to honor
the Knicks in their wind over the Rockets last night
to open up at one o'clock hour. Also coming up
at around one twenty, we're gonna play the conversation that
we had this morning with the Brandon Man, who is
the starting punter for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Speaker 3 (02:01:30):
Ross. Can you name all the radio shows in Houston?
What do you mean? I don't mean you could name
it every show on every station. And it seems that
we have lost Matt Thomas. Well, just in time for
a top of the hour break here on Sports Talk
seven ninety, We're gonna come back and honor the New
York Knicks unfortunately as they beat the Rockets. And our
(02:01:50):
number four of the Matt Thomas Show is coming up next.
Speaker 1 (02:01:55):
Lunchtimers. This is the Matt Thomas.
Speaker 3 (02:01:58):
Show by James Wonderable to his right. It's a passing
is stolen by cam Win Moore at midcourt. He's gonna
fly with the right hand jam anticipated that passed beautifully.
A turnover in the Houston potans forty six thirty five.
Speaker 2 (02:02:14):
Bridges gives up the three Paul lost that knocked away
by Tays and week out past Thompson down.
Speaker 3 (02:02:20):
The lane per Cret hanyim jamming down with the right
hand Rockets under fast break basket. They're just say s
man Thompson. Then another floor against the Chewa down the
Laney goes and he jumps and Dungeon scores and is foiled.
Oh my goodness, he euro stepped his way by a
(02:02:40):
Jewa and with the Henner. Oh my gosh. Everybody going
up is a cripple ubble.
Speaker 2 (02:02:54):
But it won't mean much of the Rockets come up
short in this game. Rounson pre point the right side
up in what a fourth quarter for Jalen Brunson. Time
out coming to the Rockets.
Speaker 3 (02:03:08):
At the port form on Topson will launch a three
quarter twenty seven feet back here, Miss rebound to Josh Harten,
how to do it?
Speaker 2 (02:03:16):
Here tonight Ron Madison Square Garden. The next will they
improved to eighteen and nine in this building.
Speaker 3 (02:03:27):
The Rockets fault is seventeen and eight on the road,
and for the first time in a long time, the
Rockets have themselves a mini losing streak. It has now
reached three.
Speaker 2 (02:03:38):
As New York wins this game one twenty four to
one eighteen.
Speaker 3 (02:03:45):
Don back with.
Speaker 2 (02:03:47):
You see New York gremlins got to my phone equipment here,
but I'm back in crystal clear sound.
Speaker 3 (02:03:56):
And Robert, you're down and out in New York City.
For a few seconds there, Matt, I.
Speaker 2 (02:04:01):
Was gonna say, I was about to brag that we
had Braden Man on from the Eagles. No other radio
station Town's got a current starter in the super Bowl on.
Speaker 3 (02:04:10):
Their show, do they know? I don't think so.
Speaker 2 (02:04:14):
It's a humble brag on our part.
Speaker 3 (02:04:16):
Love it all right?
Speaker 2 (02:04:17):
Uh, I need Connor, you need to check your email
because Rossie, we have as promised something that has been
a segment on this show for I don't know since
the last day that Alex Bregman wore an Astro uniform
and the Astros lost the Tigers in the Wild Car.
You've been looking for an Alex Bregman update. I have,
and when you hear the sounder, you know it's coming
(02:04:40):
in just a matter of seconds.
Speaker 3 (02:04:47):
Ross show. The bit's never going away. Much distagree of
some today, the Astros had a media luncheon where they
bring the media in, some legit, some not legit. Unfortunately
there's too many non legit media in our Houston area.
(02:05:07):
But that's a different issue for a different time. And
what they did is they said, hey, here's some of
the good victuals we're gonna serve at Mini Made partner
I can Park this year.
Speaker 2 (02:05:16):
I'll say that about one hundred times. But he did
get a buzzer if we messed that up. And we're
gonna talk about our theme. We're gonna talk.
Speaker 3 (02:05:21):
About is that Yiddish? Yeah, bills, you know, littles. Yeah,
just trying to add some nomenclature to the show like this.
I figured you would appreciate that. Oh, you entertained me, so, Matthew,
thank you.
Speaker 2 (02:05:36):
So they're talking about the theme and talking about Billy
Wagner's jersey and the different different things, and it's kind
of an informal get together with the media and on
the stage during this, Dana Brown goes on stage and
I'm taking this off.
Speaker 3 (02:05:52):
Of Twitter here, so I think I think I got
this right.
Speaker 2 (02:05:55):
He's talking about, well, you know, we lost Kyle Tucker
and we lost Alex Bregman. Hmmm, so the antennas that
everybody went up when he said that?
Speaker 3 (02:06:07):
Is that a good? Excuse me? I said, what?
Speaker 4 (02:06:10):
See?
Speaker 3 (02:06:11):
What?
Speaker 2 (02:06:13):
So Dana Brown, when this media formal on the podium
said what he said. He comes off on the podium
and the media can go get a microphone in front
of him and.
Speaker 3 (02:06:24):
Ask some more questions.
Speaker 2 (02:06:26):
And here is how Dana's explaining that we lost Tucker
and Bregman.
Speaker 12 (02:06:31):
Statement the podium, you consider that that a finished product.
He's not going to be part of the detenior.
Speaker 13 (02:06:39):
Well, I mean, ultimately we're still having conversations about internally
and I could probably leave it a down.
Speaker 14 (02:06:47):
Okay, what's the frustration level on on that progress or
lack of press on breaking the breakfast situation decision from
their side? And I guess we also had as.
Speaker 3 (02:07:00):
Yeah, I mean Bran was a free agent.
Speaker 13 (02:07:02):
You know, they can decide to do what they want
to do, so and as long as he's a free agent,
we'll just continue to have our internal conversations about him
still being development.
Speaker 3 (02:07:15):
Ross. Part of the thing that makes me the successful
host of name is I'm able to interpret quotes better
than maybe anybody else in the marketplace. Wow, this is
the greatest of all time. Thank you. Dana Brown does
not want Alex to bring him back. He's like, Yeah,
how many times has you used the word internal discussions.
(02:07:39):
It's like, if Jim wants to sign him, we'll sign him.
But I don't think it's happening. Do you think those.
Speaker 2 (02:07:43):
Internal discussions involve him talking to himself in front of
a mirror in his own office.
Speaker 3 (02:07:49):
Yeah, as he's saying to himself, what a great off
season he had, Dana, you're doing amazing, man. I don't.
I don't. I don't blame Dana. I can't.
Speaker 2 (02:07:57):
Dana had a job to do, and that's put together
a twenty six man roster, and he needed to improve
first base. He had to figure out what he's gonna
do in right field, which I don't think has ultimately
been determined just yet. Because I don't think Chas McCormick
is the long term so go.
Speaker 3 (02:08:11):
And you know they had to figure out what to
do at third base if Plan A wasn't in play,
which was plan A was take our six years, one
hundred and fifty six million dollars and retire as an astro.
Bracics is like, no, I'll check things out elsewhere. All right, Well,
then guess what Danna did. He checked other things elsewhere.
(02:08:32):
Had to move Tucker because there was no chance, no
way to know how he's ever going to come back.
They got Preadis's back of the trade with Chicago. Dana's like,
my work's just about done. Now I try to go
get Pilock away from Seattle. I'm still kicking the tires
and I'm looking for an outfielder. Maybe we're to add
some depth. I still got to figure out what if
I'm gonna put jose Al two Bay at second base
(02:08:54):
or in the left field this year, or a combination
of both. But you know what, I'm ready to go
to camp. Matter of fact, you know what, in his car,
his van has already packed ross. You know, there were
some moms and dad's out there that packed things like
three or four days for your trip supposed to go.
Speaker 2 (02:09:08):
Yes, his his Scooby machine, his Magic Mystery Machine is
already filled up. He's locked the loader. Go to West
bowm B. The Mystery Mobile, the Magic Misson Machine that
bad boys locked. It's got everything you need. It's get betting,
it's got its goodies, It's got it. He's got plenty
of clothes, he's got his hat on. Interns, interns, he's
(02:09:28):
all set. These internal discussions are not long ones. I mean,
he's not lying.
Speaker 3 (02:09:37):
Somebody comes to walks in Dana's office. Is Dana you interested? Expregman? Yeah,
I guess my boss is interested.
Speaker 2 (02:09:44):
I'm interested. That's as far as internal conversations go.
Speaker 3 (02:09:50):
Yeah, I think it's It's basically he has moved on,
and this is he didn't expect you. He had no
idea he would still be talking about Alex Bregman on
February fourth. No, that's the bottom line of it.
Speaker 2 (02:10:03):
Let's buy the cut, Let's buy the sound again, just
because I think it's worthy of repeating, just to let
people hear it again.
Speaker 3 (02:10:10):
On the podium.
Speaker 2 (02:10:11):
Earlier in the lunch, Dana said, with the losses of
Tucker and the loss of Bregman, and I don't want to.
I'm gonna make sure you get this right, so I
don't paraphrase erroneously here on this.
Speaker 3 (02:10:25):
Let's see here.
Speaker 2 (02:10:29):
Yeah, he said the loss of Bregman and okay he did. Okay, Okay,
you know he's our beat reporters.
Speaker 4 (02:10:35):
We love it.
Speaker 2 (02:10:36):
Here's Dana again following up on his referencing and referring
to quote missing out on Alex.
Speaker 12 (02:10:41):
BREGMANOUM, you consider that that a finished product.
Speaker 3 (02:10:46):
He's not going to be part.
Speaker 4 (02:10:47):
Of the team here.
Speaker 13 (02:10:48):
Well, I mean ultimately we're still having conversations about internally
and I'll can probably leave it a down.
Speaker 14 (02:10:56):
Okay, what's the frustration level on that progress or lack
of its break Breakfast situation decision from their side, and
I guess from the all side as well.
Speaker 13 (02:11:10):
Yeah, I mean break is a free agent, you know,
they can decide to do what they want to do
and so and as long as he's a free agent,
we'll just continue to have our internal conversations about him
still being development.
Speaker 2 (02:11:24):
I think it was Randy McAvoy asking about the frustrations Ross. Yes,
Dane is like, what frustrations I've got zero frustrations.
Speaker 3 (02:11:34):
I've done my job. I had to make the Kyle
Tucker trade. I did it. I had to get a
first basement, I did it. I had to get a
third basement. I did it.
Speaker 2 (02:11:42):
I've convinced the greatest player in Astro's history that he's
gonna have to put a left fielders glove on.
Speaker 3 (02:11:46):
I did that, my deals. My job's done. Yeah, and
I think he's ready to move on for this. He's
probably poor. Dana has had to ask a lot of
questions that he probably doesn't. Yeah, the whole bone bruise
last year, and oh my god, dealing with the fracture
and the bone bruise forever.
Speaker 2 (02:12:06):
Now, that could have also been created by Dana and
just not being want to be more forthcoming. I don't
know that to be the case. So you know what
these internal discussions could be. Really, this is Jim Crane
holding out hope that Bregman comes back so Dana doesn't
have to control this. Dana can't call and whisper sweeten
(02:12:29):
nothings to Alex Pregman. The only person that can change
is quote unquote internal discussions into realistic conversations is by
doing what Alex Bregman wants and that's the pony up
more money. So you can internalize all you want. Unless
the deal is going up, there is no internal conversations.
Speaker 3 (02:12:50):
Yeah, but obviously other teams aren't just snapping up dlex Bregman.
He's still in the market. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:12:59):
Like, for instance, all play here, I'll be I'll be Jim.
Speaker 3 (02:13:03):
Okay, No, I'll be Dana. You be Jim. Okay, you be.
Speaker 2 (02:13:08):
Jim knocking the door and say what's going on with Bregman?
Speaker 3 (02:13:11):
Ask me that what's going on with Bregman? Dana?
Speaker 4 (02:13:14):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (02:13:14):
Dana Uh? Jim.
Speaker 2 (02:13:15):
First of all, good morning to you, Hope up thongs.
Things are well. He's still a free agent. And by way,
if you want him, just add a seventh year and
add about thirty million dollars of the contract.
Speaker 3 (02:13:24):
Yeah, we're good, tell him six, send bores my regards,
and that.
Speaker 2 (02:13:28):
My friend, is your internal conversation. The only person that
changes the conversation, at least from the Houston tone, is
the owner of the baseball team. Pair it into story
now if they want to hold out, hope that six
pet fifty six is going to get it done.
Speaker 3 (02:13:45):
Yeah, but it's not like the general matters not It's
like man I moved on. Excuse me, bless you, Matt, Yeah,
thank you. It's just I mean, I think we're okay.
As you comes back, it's awesome. I love I want to,
but I think your general manager has said I'm good.
It's dragging on and on and on and on and on.
Speaker 2 (02:14:07):
No, no, no, no, no, all right, let's get to
a little NFL chatter. The Super Bowl is this Sunday
in New Orleans, and the starting punter is a Houston
Kids Sci Fair High School and the Texas A and
M University. We'll hear from Braiden Braiden Munn. Coming up
next here one fourteen on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 1 (02:14:28):
Matt Thomas, Ross Viel's The Matt Thomas Show with Ross
on Sports Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (02:14:38):
All right, promise of an interview with a member of
the Philadelphia Eagles coming up in just a couple of seconds.
Speaker 3 (02:14:45):
But right now, let's talk.
Speaker 2 (02:14:46):
To James and Alvin at one A nineteen on seven ninety.
My good afternoon to you out James.
Speaker 5 (02:14:52):
Thank you Matt for the step in my call.
Speaker 4 (02:14:54):
Listen.
Speaker 5 (02:14:55):
Uh, I'm gonna elaborate a little bit on Dania Brown.
Dand Brown is no more than just a yes, he's
lawyer to the organization that he worked for. The same
scenario confronted.
Speaker 3 (02:15:04):
Dana Brown in Atlanta.
Speaker 4 (02:15:06):
They had just won the World Series.
Speaker 5 (02:15:08):
Matter of fact, they beat the Astros without Ronald Corona because.
Speaker 4 (02:15:12):
He was out for the year.
Speaker 5 (02:15:14):
Freddy Freeman, whose contract was up, and the management, the
front office of Atlanta did not want to give Freddy
Freeman the contract that he wanted, so Daniel Brown became
a scapegoat the same thing as matter of fact, Freddy
Freeman was thirty same age it's Alex Brickman when his
(02:15:37):
contract they spired. Now, Dana Brown became a scapegoat because
Atlanta wanted to go in the youth movement and didn't
want to give up a lot of money to Freddy Freeman,
and Danyer Brown became a scaler.
Speaker 4 (02:15:55):
He is no more than just a yes man.
Speaker 5 (02:15:57):
He's gonna do whatever the Astro front office, Alice Brakman,
have been such a positive, uh influence on the Astros organization.
Speaker 3 (02:16:07):
Why wouldn't you not.
Speaker 5 (02:16:11):
Angle to carry it out for Alex Brackman to get
what he feel like he deserves, and he do deserve
a two hundred or two hundred billion dollar contracts, Matt,
he will be wearing I garrone te he will be
(02:16:32):
wearing a MLB uniform somewhere, and he.
Speaker 2 (02:16:36):
May not get a five James. That's not going on
a limb. I mean, come on, that's not telling me anything.
Here be you're telling me he's gonna be wearning an
MLB uniform this year. You're kidding me, You're I have
not heard that from anybody else, excep you.
Speaker 5 (02:16:54):
Well, well, we need to quit worrying about Alice Bragman.
Alice Bragman put, I paid money to see Alex Bregman play,
and not only our other fans across America who love baseball.
You want to see the best of the best. So
Alex Bregman will. The league cannot afford not to sign it.
(02:17:19):
The league, the MLB cannot afford not.
Speaker 4 (02:17:23):
To sign it.
Speaker 5 (02:17:25):
And so with day Le Brown, he is no more
than just so yes man, I give him as kudos.
He is no Jeff Lunof as far evaluating talent. But
I guarantee you this here, we don't have to worry
about Alex Bregman or where he gonna play. He will
be playing in twenty twenty five, and he will be
(02:17:46):
compensated accordingly.
Speaker 2 (02:17:48):
Thank you very much, James, Ladies and gentlemen, James and Kline,
Or is it Alvin? Let me look, it's Alvin Rossie James,
and Alvin has just declared in this radio show at
two that, yes, Alex Bregman will be wearing a major
League Beautifi major League Baseball uniform in twenty twenty five
and compensated appropriately.
Speaker 3 (02:18:08):
Are you willing to go out and say the exact
same thing. No, he would be hurting goats in Scotland. Actually,
as were my prediction. I'm gonna jump on this a
little bit here.
Speaker 4 (02:18:24):
I believe.
Speaker 3 (02:18:26):
Let's see what do? What do I believe? Okay? Oh,
you know what I'm gonna I'm gonna. I got one
for you, please, I got Lebron James. You know, I
think after all it's all said and done, he's gonna
make the Basketball Hall of Fame. Mm. I got one
for you, James, when Justin Verlander ultimately retires. HMM.
Speaker 2 (02:18:46):
I need not worry about what Hattie's gonna wear. He's
gonna be in Baseball's Hall of Fame.
Speaker 3 (02:18:52):
Wow, Like, I got a load for you. This may
be a little bit, This.
Speaker 2 (02:18:56):
May be cart before the horse. Okay, I think Pat
homes career is headed for a straight shot.
Speaker 3 (02:19:03):
Of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. I think so. Yeah,
I'm gonna go and say it. I have a name
on it. Wow, that's why we call you Noster Thomas.
Speaker 2 (02:19:12):
Thank you, and I got news for you too, Barring
any sort of terrible collapse of the stadium, arena or
a bus accident.
Speaker 3 (02:19:20):
Okay, Cocketts are gonna play the Nest tonight, baby, I
got one for you that actually feels good. Rockets are
gonna make the playoffs. Ooh, you know what, I got
an on one for you, James.
Speaker 2 (02:19:36):
Millions and millions of people are going to watch the
super Bowl. I don't know how many millions, but I'm
wista say seven million.
Speaker 3 (02:19:43):
Yes, I like that. Another one for you, another one
one more, and another Squares reboot is just getting worse?
Oh is it? You? Kene't Matt? You keep hate watching
that show. You've talked about how terrible it is, and
you just keep watching it. Yeah. I do a lot.
I hate things. I hate listen, I hate watch We
Gotta get you fixed up part of your term though, Seriously,
(02:20:05):
you are not lying. You are not lying. Roger on
seven ninety Roger, good afternoon, Good afternoon, Matt.
Speaker 7 (02:20:16):
I believe the ISx Bradman will be warring MLB regulation
cleats in twenty twenty five.
Speaker 3 (02:20:23):
I like that for sure. Okay, but you Matt, M
back to you, Matt, Nathan says on Twitter.
Speaker 2 (02:20:35):
Does James not realize Dana was in the scouting department
when Freeman signed with the Dodgers. How would he get
blamed for losing Freeman? Bless his old man heart. No blank,
he'll be playing the majors this year.
Speaker 3 (02:20:44):
Lolol. Best callers from tended to thank you, James. You
got news for you? What news? I think the Dodgers
a gonna be pretty good this year? What is their
win total? By the way, you were mentioning the one
(02:21:04):
and thirty six, I'm gonna go over. I believe Ross
that I'm gonna go to a casino sometime in the
next month and lose some money. All right, Well that's
a fact, jack. Listen.
Speaker 2 (02:21:19):
I'm saying, I know my I know my my hesitations
and my deficiency.
Speaker 3 (02:21:23):
Dodgers at one hundred and three and a half. Where
can we go to? LC matter? Are you near of casino?
Speaker 8 (02:21:31):
No?
Speaker 3 (02:21:32):
You had the Atlantic City anytime soon.
Speaker 2 (02:21:33):
No, I'm actually you're closer than the Link Charles than
I am to Atlantic.
Speaker 3 (02:21:36):
I'm dead serious. When's the next time you're gonna be
at a casino. I'll be in New Orleans in March. Okay,
I'm giving you a hunsky on that over. Mm hmm.
That's a lock of the century.
Speaker 2 (02:21:53):
And by the way to address it, there's a certain
part of every general manager's DNA that is the yes
man for the owner.
Speaker 4 (02:22:01):
It just is.
Speaker 3 (02:22:04):
If the general manager wants to do something so ridiculously bad,
he still has to get ownership approval as bad as
they Luka Doncic trade was between Dallas and Los Angeles.
The Dallas GM Nico Harrison had to go to the
Boston saying I'm gonna trade. I'm gonna trade Luca Luka Doncic,
(02:22:25):
And She's like, what does this help me get a
casino in Dallas? I do whatever you want. I don't care.
Speaker 2 (02:22:33):
I'm more concerned about my winnings of my casino than
I'm running.
Speaker 3 (02:22:38):
I bet you.
Speaker 2 (02:22:39):
Rob Lincoln didn't have to go to Genie Bus and say,
guess we're getting She called, and he called and said Luca.
Speaker 3 (02:22:44):
We're getting Luca. She said, what I'm gonna tell them
rate by going.
Speaker 2 (02:22:49):
Back and playboy. Hmm, Genie Bus back in the day,
all right, nicecal Brandon Man, punter Eagles. Where are we
predicting a Super Bowl win for the Eagles?
Speaker 3 (02:23:07):
That was my gut feeling. Let's talk to him next
one twenty seven Sports Talk seven ninety lunchtimers.
Speaker 1 (02:23:14):
Lunchtimers, It's a Matt Thomas Show with Ross on Sports
Talk seven ninety.
Speaker 2 (02:23:25):
Matt Thomas Show with Ross continues, We've got to believe
it or not. All things about New York City coming
up today and that'll be in about twenty minutes from now.
I want to thank Brandon Man for joining us on
the show earlier today. We had him in about ten fifteen.
If you are unavailable to hear it, some of the
conversation is right now. Brandon joined us from New Orleans
(02:23:46):
part of the media day festivities, talking about what it
was like traveling with the Eagles. He's a starting punter,
by the way, He'll be on the field for Sunday's game,
provided you have punts, but that normally happens.
Speaker 3 (02:23:56):
He's also the backup field goal kicking. We find out
about that, right, and I would.
Speaker 2 (02:24:00):
Talk to us about what it was like flying from
Philadelphia to New Orleans getting down there just a couple
of days ago and getting ready for Sunday's big tilt
with the Chiefs.
Speaker 4 (02:24:08):
No, it's definitely not a party on this sphere. Some
guys are a little more quiet or like get really,
I don't know into the music on the way there.
Some guys play cards, so it's just kind of a
relaxed environment. Definitely saving the party environment for hopefully the
way back after after the game on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (02:24:23):
Absolutely, Hey, let me ask you, this is it okay?
If I call you the second greatest punter in A
and M history, is that all right with you?
Speaker 4 (02:24:31):
That's that's an honor. Yeah, I know who you talking
about in fund me and that is that is an
honor to even be behind him.
Speaker 3 (02:24:38):
Did you now you had? I was talking to your
dad the other day.
Speaker 2 (02:24:40):
You have a soccer background, but you were just as
much about football as you were anything else, correct.
Speaker 4 (02:24:45):
Yeah, definitely, Yeah. I played linebacker like my whole life.
Speaker 2 (02:24:47):
So, and I was looking at some of your highlights
at A and M and then obviously a couple of
teams in the NFL. What was it like settling in Philadelphia?
And more importantly, tell me how awful it can be
with that field when it's like twenty three degrees, there's sleep,
it's a frozen field. I mean, how much longer does
it take you to get prepared for that as compared
(02:25:08):
to saying a normal like a seventy degree day.
Speaker 4 (02:25:12):
Yeah, it's definite a little different. I mean, growing up
in Houston was I didn't know how spoiled I was
for the weather until I left and went to New
York at first, and then Philly And ever since I
settled down in Philly for the last couple years, it's
been awesome. I've loved it there. It's been great. The
weather is still, you know, not kind to us. And
we had that snow game in the playoffs this year
against ram So that was a bunch of fun. Hard
to get used to, but it was. It was really
(02:25:33):
cool to be part of that game.
Speaker 2 (02:25:35):
So, as a Philly resident, does the fan base do
they you know, like they love you when things are
going well and they'll buy your meals and then they
will make you they'll charge you double when you lose.
Speaker 3 (02:25:45):
I mean, is it as passionate as a city as
we think it is.
Speaker 4 (02:25:49):
Oh yeah, it is as passionate as one can get.
In the fan base. I mean I've been pretty used
to that, Like, you know, the A and M fan
base is passion just like it. So it's it's been
really cool. And they they're so many games. What makes
the environment there so cool? I mean I played at Philly,
not playing for Philly before, and the environment was so
cool just to be there. It's kind of like when
(02:26:09):
you go play, you know, an SEC game somewhere else.
It's just everyone's so into it and the culture there
on the with the fans and the team is really awesome.
Speaker 2 (02:26:17):
Brighton man with us here on the Matt Thomas Show
of Rosses. He's joining us from New Orleans. So you
hear about the Eagles in the offseason and you hear that, Uh,
Saquon Barkley is now a teammate. What was that like
here in the news of that and obviously getting to
know him a little bit, and more importantly the way
he has dominated your team's offense this year.
Speaker 4 (02:26:37):
Yeah, he is. Uh, He's truly incredible. He has been.
He's been Austin since day one. He's gotten here. I
think he's signed where they agreed to terms the day
after I agreed to the terms. Uh, it's my deal,
my new extension. So it was, uh, it was cool,
cool couple of days and I was like, I don't
know how we how we got Saquon. I don't know
how the giants of them come to us, but you know,
(02:26:57):
we'll take it. And he's obviously just been an incredible
weapon all here, and you know, the offense kind of
runs through him, and it's it's been cool to watch
him have the historic season he's had.
Speaker 2 (02:27:07):
Do you and Jalen Hurts talk about Houston at all
or is it just all about Philly life now that
you're Eagles.
Speaker 4 (02:27:12):
No, Yeah, we'll definitely talk about Houston a little bit.
We grew up on a kind of different side of Houston,
so a little bit different there. But we know, you know,
quite a few of the same people and have played,
you know, a few of the same teams. So he's
he's probably two or three lockers down for me in
the locker room at in Philly. So, uh, you know,
every now and then we'll talk about Houston stuff, or
you know, if we go down in Texas for a game.
We'll talk about places to eat and stuff like that.
Speaker 2 (02:27:34):
How was the last couple of days of media attention?
Any strange questions thrown at you and anything like that?
Speaker 4 (02:27:40):
Oh strange quest Yeah, there was a bunch of just
like fun questions. I think I didn't get any of
like the really weird ones. That one was trying to
get a funny clip of the punter usually, so I
didn't get any of the crazy questions. But yeah, just
a bunch of fun stuff. I mean, you know, just
some random ones like what's the best gatorade color? And
you know, all all kinds of just weird, funky stuff.
Speaker 2 (02:27:59):
The so, what is the best gettay color? I'm assuming
it's got to be green, right, I don't think of that.
Speaker 4 (02:28:06):
I actually was told the green one was really good.
I think it's the purple riptide rush, but they said red.
Now I'm like, I've never had some allergic to it,
so I just didn't even know that was that red
is even good at all?
Speaker 3 (02:28:16):
Wow, that's crazy.
Speaker 2 (02:28:17):
Bradon man with us here on the Matt Thomas should
Rossi's the punter for the Eagles and will be on
the field when you found out you're going to the
super Bowl. That's cool, but they have to do it indoors.
How much luck is easy is your life and that
could be for any special team to remember. But just
tell me about the differences in your preparation when you
have to worry about a fifteen to twenty mile per
hour swirling wind.
Speaker 4 (02:28:39):
Yeah, I mean it's the prep doesn't changed about the
week really sides, you know, just knowing that I won't
have to deal with the elements it is, it probably
gives me a few hours, but actually sleep the night
before for sure. I love playing indoors. It's awesome. I
played at the at the Saint's Place this year for
the first time and it's a really cool state being.
Slide pumps for it a.
Speaker 3 (02:29:01):
Ross with you in here in Houston as well, Brandon
in and it's funny. Can you just kind of give
us a window into life as a punter to where
if your name isn't a headline tomorrow, that means you've
done something very bad, Like you can do your job
perfectly one hundred times in a row, but that one
time there's something goes wrong. That's kind of when your
name pops up.
Speaker 4 (02:29:22):
Yeah, yeah, It's it's kind of a funny job to
have because if I'm on the field, something went wrong,
and that's a pretty funny way of looking at it.
You know, if I'm coming on the field, the opposing
fans are either cheering for me or you know, our
fans aren't too happy with the team. So yeah, it's
an interesting spot to be in for sure. But you know,
it's what's going out there. It's not really about trying
to not mess it up. It's just like what can
(02:29:42):
I do to you know, hopefully make a big play
and kind of swing the momentum a little bit. If
we're on fourth down and we can have a big
play on punt team, that is kind of a swing momentum.
So it's fun to have that challenge for sure.
Speaker 3 (02:29:53):
And to keep like punts consistently. Is there what do
you what is the way that you do that? Is
there any like is there like a song you singing
to your sell for like a one two three?
Speaker 12 (02:30:01):
This?
Speaker 4 (02:30:02):
Like?
Speaker 3 (02:30:02):
What is is there something that you do to try
to kind of trick your mind into being consistent?
Speaker 4 (02:30:09):
I just I honestly just punt all the time and
try to keep it a relaxed environment. I punt probably
more than I would recommend to anybody else. I just
can't like stop, you know, trying to, like you said,
be consistent with it. So but I try to keep
it a relaxed environment when I'm practicing and just uh,
you know, yeah, I'll listen to a bunch of music
and just have fun with it and hopefully that transfers
to the game so that when in the game, I'm
(02:30:31):
hopefully in my mind in the same relax environment that
I am in practice. Uh.
Speaker 3 (02:30:35):
Bringing you two last questions for you.
Speaker 2 (02:30:37):
How often do you have the conversation with Nick Sirianni about, Dude,
I can throw the football, Let's go give.
Speaker 3 (02:30:43):
Me one, give me a shot.
Speaker 4 (02:30:46):
You know. I don't bring it up too much. He
I think he saw it. I threw one when I
was with the Jets. Said last year they let me
throw one against the Cowboys, which was fun at their place.
That was all week. He was like, we want to
run this, and I was like, hey, you are already
know you know, if you give me the green light,
I'll do it. So we had some fun with that
one last year. For sure. I don't know if I'm
getting it in with the quarterbacks and really letting it lose.
(02:31:09):
But I'll, you know, just throw some balls around for
some fun.
Speaker 2 (02:31:12):
Seriously, if you could throw a pass and a fake
punt in the Super Bowl, you would be a legendary status.
Speaker 3 (02:31:17):
You understand this, correct?
Speaker 4 (02:31:19):
That would be sweet?
Speaker 3 (02:31:20):
Yeah, now you know I'm not going to count it. Hey,
maybe if you throw a pick six, you're doomed for
the rest of your life. So I just want to
make sure there's the best both ends of the spectrum
on that.
Speaker 4 (02:31:30):
All right, Yeah, no doubt, you know, either gonna be
a hero or a villain for sure. All right.
Speaker 2 (02:31:34):
So last thing, how many tickets do you get? I
know mom and dad are coming, which is cool. Is
there a fight for extra tickets? How does it work
with and you and your teammates? Did you guys are
trying to get your family and friends and girls all
in the stadium?
Speaker 4 (02:31:47):
Yes, I mean some guys. I know one of the
guys from the Chiefs, I think you bought thirty tickets
for his family and friends. So that's that was why,
that's the most I've heard of peel behind for it.
I mean, I'm sure some guys that are just an
extraordinary amount. Yeah, I got my parents, My wife Kylie's coming,
and then my sister and brother in law, and then
(02:32:09):
my wife's parents too are coming, so it'll be them
seven there. It'll be a bunch of fun for them.
And they're kind of coming up for a few days
and hopefully enjoying the festivities.
Speaker 2 (02:32:17):
And when do you get to see them and when
do they like basically close down the operation, and I
guess you guys will probably change hotels. It'll be like
a kind of a super secret message the last twenty
four hours.
Speaker 4 (02:32:27):
Yeah, I'll get see them a couple of days before
we have some events. You know that families can come
to with us, so that'll be fun just to hang
with them. And then, you know, like you said, twenty
four hours or four ish is kind of when we
all just go back to our normal rhythm.
Speaker 3 (02:32:39):
Of a game. All right. That again, Brandon Man starting
punter for the Eagles.
Speaker 2 (02:32:43):
Houston Kids, I Fair High School and Texas A and
M joining us earlier today. We appreciate him spending some
time with us. I know it's super busy with all
those guys getting the meteor quest plus practices, get family
in for the big game on Sunday.
Speaker 3 (02:32:56):
Ross believe It or Not is up next coming up
in a couple of minutes.
Speaker 2 (02:32:59):
Right now, I do want to tell you, uh that
we have some audio coming in on the Astros and
Jose Al tuoban left field, and I'm gonna try to
send something to Connor here.
Speaker 3 (02:33:13):
In Justice when we come back. We already do it
right now. You want to do that, We'll come back
with it.
Speaker 2 (02:33:17):
Yeah, Dana Brown on left field with Al two and
maybe even some Joe A Spotta as well. That plus
Believe It or Not, All things about New York City,
Believe it or not, All Things New York City Next
seven one three two one two five seven, ninety seven
one three two one two five seven ninety.
Speaker 6 (02:33:36):
Sports Talk plus yont Rock, Houston's smoothest sports guy more
Matt Thomas Show with Ross on Sports Talk.
Speaker 2 (02:33:51):
All right, all we do is deliver Connor McGovern quick
on the audio capture Ross. We hear from a Spata
and Dana on Jose Al two maybe playing some left field.
Speaker 8 (02:34:02):
Well, we have been working in left field for the
last couple of weeks, but he continues to take ground balls.
You know, I'm not going to commit to a number
of games, but that's something that We are looking at,
uh to create some flexibility, to put players in a
position to succeed other players that we could you know,
put it, you know, take care of we could take
care of the baseball, keep guys healthy, you know, have
(02:34:25):
a more balanced line up, you know, offensively. Those are
things that we are looking at, and that's what we
are considering. Putting Hosey, you know, getting some time in
left field.
Speaker 3 (02:34:34):
Mmm doesn't want to commit to a number of games.
Also says he looked pretty good in left field. Joe
Spotta was pretty good.
Speaker 8 (02:34:46):
I know, I'm one of I'm going slow here because
he's you know, he's he's such a good athlete that
it's I'm not surprised by how good he's looked.
Speaker 4 (02:34:59):
But also once she puts someone.
Speaker 8 (02:35:01):
On the field, and now you got to, you know,
worry about you know, you know, the sun and the
wind and the walls and all that kind of stuff.
But right now, you know, he's athletic enough to do it.
In the last couple of weeks, you know, we haven't
seen why he should not be good over there in
left field.
Speaker 2 (02:35:22):
Well do you think he's saying that ross because he
already knows what he's getting out of second base this year?
Speaker 3 (02:35:27):
Maybe all right, what'd you think? I guess he's gonna
get some looks out there? Who is not going to
commit to how many games? It seems like this thing
is real? Does that mean dubonnet second some more? Shae Whitcomb,
Maybe Shaye Whitcomb, Shay Wait, what about Zach Dezenzo? I
(02:35:48):
thought he was getting working left as well. M maybe not.
Speaker 2 (02:35:53):
In it ultimately does show you there is just no
depth in the outfield for the Astros coming in the
next season.
Speaker 3 (02:36:02):
They need to sign somebody are they waiting for? I mean,
who's sitting on the streets that are looking it's looking
for worker. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (02:36:11):
And is that person ready to come help this team
immediately after just kind of sitting out if you look
ROSSI I don't know. If you have a subsidiary to
the Jake Myers Fan Club is the Chazzy Fizz Club.
Speaker 3 (02:36:26):
You may not open that up. Chezzy Fizz Club in
the and the Jake Myers Fan Club had b for years.
Speaker 2 (02:36:31):
But I think they got to get along now, don't they.
Speaker 4 (02:36:33):
I think?
Speaker 3 (02:36:33):
So just throw it out there, man, Jason Hayward's available,
Yeah he is Randall Gritchick, Ramon Loriano.
Speaker 2 (02:36:45):
Gritchick's a Houston kid, right, Yeah, I think so.
Speaker 3 (02:36:48):
Yeah. I wonder if they were.
Speaker 2 (02:36:51):
After Santander a little bit harder than maybe that was
out there. Maybe they just thought, you know what, that's
too much money to spend.
Speaker 3 (02:36:57):
Is Verdugo still a free agent? Can you you want
to make a gut feeling on it? Is this the Astros?
If we'll put left field, question Mark, center field, Myers
right field, McCormick. If I gave you the over under on,
then those that three, that combination meaning Alvarez in left,
(02:37:21):
I'll two Van left, somebody out in dupon whatever it
will make the left of wild card.
Speaker 2 (02:37:26):
If I said center and right are patroled by those
two gentlemen, and it's done seventy times this year, you're
taking the over or under on that.
Speaker 3 (02:37:33):
I go over. Verdugo is available. He was bad last year.
He is a left handed bat, and they've talked about
getting a lefty.
Speaker 2 (02:37:46):
Oh man, isn't it kind of too It's February fourth?
Speaker 3 (02:37:49):
Ross, Yes, I mean, don't you. Oh. I think they're good.
I think, honestly and just as a feeling, I think
they're gonna close their eyes and just.
Speaker 2 (02:38:02):
Pray for Chaz to be the guy who was two
years ago where he gave you an inner pop for
a while, and it Myers.
Speaker 3 (02:38:09):
You know who you're getting.
Speaker 2 (02:38:10):
You're getting a guy who's gonna cover a lot of
center field, who's gonna cover up the mistakes of al
two vay and Alvarez in left field. And if you
get anything out of his bat, he's a ninth place hitter.
Speaker 3 (02:38:18):
It's gravy. That's probably the plan. Yeah, all right, five
minutes left to go on the show. What should we do?
Speaker 2 (02:38:28):
We should play America's fastest growing sports radio game show.
Speaker 3 (02:38:34):
We simply call it be Believe It or Not. And
here's how it works.
Speaker 2 (02:38:37):
You'll call seven one three two one two five seven
ninety seven one three two one two five seven ninety
today's edition to believe it not as all things about
the beautiful metropolitan area that we know as New New
York City. I'll read your statement about New York City.
The statements could pool in utterly accurate. You'll say this
believe it at the same as erroneus full of bunk manup.
Speaker 3 (02:38:55):
You'll say this not to believe it Not's in a
Row win you a nice prize today, Connor, what we playing?
A four pack of tickets with Pitt passes to Monster
Jam this Saturday, February eighth the Energy Stadium, A pair
of tickets to the Outlaw Music Festival with Willie Nelson,
Bob Dylan, the Avitt Brothers and more on July sixthth
of William's Pavilion, and some seven ninety t shirts.
Speaker 2 (02:39:13):
There's some nice prizes. Let's first Believe it or Not?
Ryan on seven ninety. Ryan, you're ready to play Believe
or not?
Speaker 3 (02:39:20):
Yes? The five boroughs of New York City are Manhattan, Queens,
Long Island, Harlem and Brooklyn. Believe it or not.
Speaker 8 (02:39:30):
Not?
Speaker 3 (02:39:31):
That's right.
Speaker 2 (02:39:32):
Harlem and Long Island are not. Stanton Island and the
Bronx are stay a number two for the win. When
New York City was founded in the sixteen hundreds, it
was named New Amsterdam.
Speaker 3 (02:39:42):
