(00:02):
Saulsbury. Okay, let's do this. Sewn Salisbury there to usc Troup's longtime
friend Shawn Salisbury, Bryan Lima,go Lobos. This is the Sewan Salisbury
Show. Football season coming up quickerthan you think. Texans training camp in
(00:28):
less than ten days. I wonderwhat my heat is. I sound like
most of you clowns are out theresaying, hey, yeah, I'm kidding.
Here's an interesting question. Right offthe gate, right off the rip?
Really that interesting? Okay? IsMike Gundhy weird? He's a little
(00:51):
he's a little out there. Ilike it. I like him as a
matter of fact. I like himbecause he I think that he's one of
the you know when Les Miles wasahead. Oh he's a bit of a
whack job, right, yeah, job, yeah, well listen, make
no mistake, they all got somewhack job in different ways. But I'm
done about those guys that sometimes youwonder, dude, have you been to
Mars? Like my guy, Godrest his whole soul is one of the
(01:15):
original cats of all time. ThePirate Mike Leach was the best at it
right yeah, matter of fact, college high school profoot, all of them,
Miss Mike Leach. If we don'tmiss Mike leachs and we don't like
media conferences in the way Mike Leachwho went about his miss we lost not
just a pioneer as a coach, but we lost a guy who was out
front of all the stuff that makeyou shake your head to some and make
(01:38):
other guys want to hug him inhigh five him because he's one of the
greatest dudes of all time, rightthe Mike the Mike Leaches are But and
we need guys like that. ButI'm talking about in the and I mean
this pretty affectionately, like the whackjob. You know, the guy who
say, is he smarter than what'she thinking? Yeah? Yeah, which
(02:00):
is my kind of guy. Yeah, oh yeah, he's a French fry
short of a happy meal. Ithink Mike Gandy's that guy. Might be
he's not in the rarefied air thatleeches in, but every couple of years,
Mike Gandy will give you a quoteor a press conference, he'll say
he's in the team picture, he'sup there. Yeah, I like whack
(02:23):
chops. I like him because thenbut you won't if it's you got to
pay attention to Gandhi's press conferences becausehe's going to give you something. You
say, Okay, he's not evenin my city, and I got to
talk about him the next Yeah, there you go. I can't wait to
get to Uh, Mike Gandhi's he'sno kill Gundy, who's his brother?
(02:44):
And running back Coad's. I meanhe's no kill Gandy. But then again
he's no doorknob either. Okay,no he's not. And he uh he
made some comments to say the least. We're gonna go through those. There
might be a steak out question, you never know coming up at seven fifteen,
but we start with the Houston Astrostripley. Good morning, by the
way, what's happening Astros back atMinima Park last night? They did obviously
(03:09):
play the baseball game. There wassome talk that they might postpone it or
double up today. However, theydid play last night Dollar Dog Night.
Good to see a lot of theHoustonians coming out and try to return to
some sort of normalcy as we recoverfrom Hurricane Barrel. I know a lot
of people are still without power.I myself am still without power, hopefully
getting it back this morning. Soif you're out there listening to us hopefully
(03:32):
that you are staying safe and gettingyourself through the aftermath of the hurricane.
Astros beat the Marlins. Josh Hatercomes in, gets the save. Renel
Blanco velocity down throughout the game. However, he got it done, hung
a couple of changeups, but man, he still tosses another. Another really
(03:53):
good outing for the Sasgars team. Here's what I need from from Braval Does
I need him to go to RenelBlanco and take a lesson in when you're
not at your best, you finda way to get it done and that
you mentally just overcome it. Becausethere's a sentimental toughness about the guy,
and maybe it's because of his careerpath and what he's been through. And
at thirty, he's finally reaching hisyou know, potential, which is a
(04:16):
great thing. That he gives upthe leadoff home run, gives up another
hit, he walked to his strugglesof usually when it comes to walking,
people are early in games and thenhe settles in and last night was no
different because he's like, oh man, this is going to be a bullpen
night if Blanco doesn't settle it,and what do you know, keeps the
(04:36):
score down allows Bregman's home run toput him ahead, and just battles through
it, gives him some great innings, a great exclamation point on you left
me off the All Star ballot yea, or off the All Star Game,
and I'm just going to let youknow that I belong there. But it
didn't. It could have very easilygone either way with him. He could
(04:57):
have said, I'm really affected,it bothers me, or you know what,
it's the way. It is,no big deal. There's no why
I confess. He did it likewe see with others at times around you
know, sports and life. Hejust went out and did as saying.
But there are times when pitchers andplayers will wilt when things don't go their
way early. And Renel Blanc isa great example of resilience and I freaking
(05:19):
love it. And I loved whathe did last night. And listen,
you can give me all you wantabout the rest of them. For my
money, I know what al Tuvay'sdoing. He's on pay. You know
we're gonna push a two hundred hitseason if this continues. All that I
get it for my money. RenellBlanc is the MVP in thishow Oh,
(05:40):
there's no question he has been themost valuable player on this team. Yeah,
nine and three, uh, hisrecord so far this season. And
you think at a time when youdo, it would be the equivalent of
losing three, losing Bregman, Jordanand Tucker. And I'm only saying three,
but those guys are done. Youlose those three and you hapen to
(06:01):
carry him, like if you're yingerde years are al two vain, have
the greatest career, the greatest seasonof your career, and keep the team
afloat. It's been him. Yeah, and I'm quite frankly, you can
argue with me all you want. And every day players have a bigger better
chance to make an impact because wesee him every day, and maybe they're
more it's more relevant to us becausewe do see them every day, not
(06:24):
every fifth day. You can saywhatever you want, Renel Blanco, they're
not here. If it's not forhim, you take away, not take
away. He's nine and three, you take away nine wins. They're sitting
at what thirty eight wins? Yeah, even if you give somebody else three,
Yeah, that's six wins behind. Now you're eight out. Yeah,
because Seattle wins last night The pointis is that he's just been It's one
(06:46):
thing to be great when everybody elsehas been playing well. It's another thing
to be great when your team quitefrankly, no offense. The first month
and a half sucked. Yeah, they weren't good. They and when I
say sucked, they're inconsistency. Overall, they looked like just a bye they
it looked like a team that wasthe team, like twenty fourteen type baseball
(07:06):
team. And then they came outand stayed the course, which we figured
they would get better. But he'sa big part of it. He you
say what you want the first halfMVP is sits right there, and it
is him, Renel Blanco. Yeah, last night, seven innings, four
hits to ear and runs, sevenk's one walk. Uh, he was
(07:30):
phenomenal. Eighty seven pitches in thoseseven innings, as the ra for the
season two point five three. Andagain he was not an All Star at
all. You know what, He'san All Star whether they elected him or
not, it's one thing. He'san All Star. Now, my question
is if there's an American League pitcherthat all of a sudden begs out they
(07:51):
can't pitch, can't can't show uplike I'm trying to figure out I didn't.
I was watching the Red Sox game. Do they had like eleven runs
in two innings? They went hey, last d damn near almost lost the
game still, but their bats werealive and well. And Devers, who
made the All Star teams, notgoing, but he was in the game
last night. So I'm sitting herewondering, I haven't even looked, and
(08:13):
I was waiting for them to stayit on the broadcast. Why isn't Rafael
Devers going the All Star Game? They never said it. I not in
that inting and I was looking, you know, looking at the different TVs
and changing the sound on them,And when they got up eleven to two,
I'm like, okay, I canlingering shoulder soreness for Devors is keeping
him out? Okay, I meanI knew he had been bothered by it.
(08:35):
He's still swinging the bat like likenothing's bothering him on the home run
on Garrett Cole. So he's takenit. Basically, he's taking the time
of this is preventive. He's playingfor his team and taking the time of
which I get team comes first,All Star Game, second, that's it.
I didn't know if there's something personalgoing on, like you know,
a wife having a baby or something. Had no idea, So he's not.
But if a pitcher begs out betweennow and the All Star Game anymore,
(09:01):
who's next? I'll tell you whatif he gets passed over? Yeah,
if he gets passed over for anext for somebody else who's in the
All Star Game. Some starter says, now can't like what happened to Glass?
Now is a starter? You knowhe's going to the Ald Camp pitch
shocker? Right? Is can youget? He's really good when he's there,
but when he's not there, Imean he goes through some injuries,
(09:22):
you don't see him, but whenhe's on the mountain, he's really good.
Is Blanco up next? Is myquestion, because you can't rule it
out that some pitcher's gonna say,Man, I'm tired, I don't want
to pitch in the All Star Game. So I'm just curious of where he
is because he's earned every frigging bitof it and has had zero. It's
like he gets extra pub It's notlike he's been a guy who's been five
times and everybody it's the lifetime achievement. Ord he's just flat ass earned it.
(09:46):
Yeah, and even if he doesget asked to participate, meaning somebody
else gets hurt or wants to justtake the weekend off to recover from the
first half, Reno Blanco should justsay no, I'm good, you know,
for not being just for not beingpicked first when or the first selection,
Well, can you blame that onthe manager or whoever whoever decides,
(10:09):
and who would I know the managercouldn't decide. But if somebody begs out,
shouldn't it be the coaches now decisionto add the next guy? Yeah,
it should be okay, I andif Bochie passed him up, then
then Bochi asked him if he hadbeen to eight of them. But really,
like I've heard like I think itwas Gary Templeton there at the All
(10:30):
Star Game years ago, great shortstopfor Saint Louis and the Padres. He
had a great phrase he goes,if I ain't starting, I ain't to
parting, meaning if he's not startingAll Star Game shots at ye, And
I just don't think and I getwhat you're saying, but I'm gonna go
on the other side. I thinkit's too big an honor. You can't
hold that. Yeah, if itwas his ninth time and he said,
listen, screw you guys, man, you know I deserved it. I
(10:52):
don't know why without saying screw youguys. Been inside, I'm taking time
off being family or whatever. RelaxI need it. My team needs me
relaxed. And we've had too manyinjuries. No risk here. I'm not
going. But I think you stillit's too big an honor for him to
say no. And I don't believeattitude wise that he would say no.
And I almost think you because whenyou say no, you know what it
(11:13):
does now the bitterness people say,oh you're that bitter you got passed by.
Everybody gets somebody gets passed by everyyear. Go. My gut is
that he would go. Now,whether he'd want to do much, let's
see what the All Star he'd bein line to pitch it hitting, you
know, at the All Star Game, so I don't think he'd pass it
up. And to be honest withyou, as you know, Brian,
(11:35):
when you hold that grudge, thegrudge holder suffers far more than the person
who the people didn't lect you andwhoever put him on next may have had
no bearing on his selection, rightwhoever it is, it would add him
to the All Star Game. Erif there's just a pecking order of oh
this guy was going to be next, and just go down the line.
But I would hope that he'd sayyes. But regardless, performance tells me
(11:58):
all Star all day every day, whether he was elected or not. When
is the game? That's what it'sA week from yesterday. Yeah, a
week from yesterday. Always on aTuesday. Yeah, my days are all
screwed up with everything going on.Today's Wednesday. By the way, Dana
Brown, Yeah, going to joinus at nine point thirty this morning.
Yeah, I'm sure we'll have acouple of things to uh to discuss with
(12:20):
Dana Brown. Lance mc colors apparentlyhas a set back to Lance mccullor's to
your thing. I was hoping postLabor Day Lance mccollors will not see the
pitching mound in twenty two. Hewon't, He will not, he won't.
I'm not sure he hasn't pitched hislast pitch here. I I can't
disagree with you. Just a thought. I said it yesterday in my opinion
(12:41):
that he would not pitch at allthis season, and then they said he
has a setback, and then Ithink the whole thing with what joe'spot is,
you know what, let's go tobreak and then we can discuss it
because there's some interesting pieces in thatthat Joe spot mentions that. It just
makes you think, like, whatwhat what we got going on here with
lancemac colors. So let's discs next, what's going on with Lance Piccolors Junior.

(14:31):
Ryan Presley, Ryan Presley, Sorry, only if they knew what was
said. He you're on, RyanPresley? Yeah, right, Today Stray
Bullet Day. Yeah, we cansegment a couple of stray Do you think
(14:52):
the day we should have a segmentfor the fans to call in and give
you you get a stray bullet segment. Yeah, until bullet whoever is So
we could do our own version ofwhat Matt Thomas and Ross do they do?
Uh? What is it? Ain'tnobody got time for that? Or
shut your bum ass up? Yeahthey got that. Well, you know
(15:13):
what we ought to do. Weought to just troll them and use their
same sound effects and everything. That'swhat we ought to do. I think
that's disrespectful. Brian Good. Ithink I think that you're you're you should
protect the teammate, not all I'mprotecting the stuff. Yeah, I'm protecting
them. Yeah, yeah, soI think we should. It's disrespectful.
Then they can shut their bum assesup. Whoa, I'm just kidding.
(15:35):
Whoa? So are you gonna? Are you going to the colors? Are
Pressley here? Well? I justreal quick, I thought it was interesting
that Ryan Presley was warming Brian Braythen gives up a run to cut it
to uh just a one run leadfor the Astros, and then is there
a double barrel going? Next thing? You know? Boom, Josh Haders
coming in a throw's got double bearaction down on the bullpen. Blummer I
(16:00):
love that phrase. Yeah, doublebarrel. So Hater comes in, he
gets his job done, gets thesafe sixteen on the year, walks one,
strikes out to twenty pitches. I'massuming he's not gonna be available today.
I think that's a fair assumption.Just a little interesting. I thought
there was gonna be a major straythrown somewhere. I mean, you go
(16:21):
out, you straight up hater yesterday, didn't you? I mean straight him
up a little bit. Dude's makingninety five mil stop giving up home runs.
Would like to call him gopher balls. That's a It was a gopher
ball against Christian Vasquez. But hey, you got the job done last night.
What have you done for me lately, Josh Hater? He's best closer
(16:41):
in baseball according to Last Night,Today, Today, Yeah, yeah,
damn right. Sixteen saves Lancer CollisJunior, according to Joe as Spotty yesterday
prior to the game, has beenshut down after his arm wasn't wasn't responding
well between bullpen sessions. Mccullors won'tthrow for a few days while the team
formulates a plan for what's next.Okay, he's been shut down, but
(17:06):
then the interesting part for me formulatesa plan for what's next, Like,
can we can we call it likeit like it is and just tell us
that he's done for the years. Here's the formulation of the plan. In
my opinion, he's done. Uhhuh. We've got to reevaluate if he
needs surgery again, and we maysee him next year. Yeah, we'll
(17:30):
see him in twenty twenty five. Can you imagine this man? And if
and when he is ready to pitch, let's say he's out for the season,
which I think he has been sayingthat for a week or so now.
He hadn't pitched in a game sincetwenty twenty two, and he's not
pitching one in twenty twenty four,so that is what twenty twenty three,
(17:51):
twenty twenty four, So that's twofull years. Wow, how many times
in those last two years have youheard the word step back? When it
when it's set up on him?Yeah, it's constant. What is he
doing in his rehab and his workoutsin his training, like honestly, and
(18:11):
who's monitoring it? Yeah, somethinglike I get bad luck, unlucky things
like that when it comes to setbacks. But this is now a pattern.
Well, also, what are youdoing in your workouts and training and rehab
regiments and everything. And you're alsonow getting to a point where, moving
(18:33):
forward, will he ever be atwenty Well, I don't remember the last
time he started twenty five games isAnd I mean, I know you root
for him, I sure as helldo. He's a hell of a good
dude. But we're talking just baseballright now, correct, And as far
(18:56):
as baseball goes, I don't knowhow you can ever look at him as
just being anything but a guy.Now. I hope that I'm wrong,
but it's a bummer, a bummerfor him, and he's going through this
rehap. I have no idea thesteps that he takes to keep putting him
in setbacks. At no time inthe last two years if you felt like,
(19:19):
yes, now this is great newscoming from that camp, yeah,
or from the Astros. Guy's notplaying this year. No, No,
he's not playing this year. Twentyeight games he appeared in in twenty twenty
one, and I think that happenedtwice or once or twice in his career,
(19:40):
was it? And then in twentytwenty two, if people forget he
only appeared in eight because he cameback late in the season. So in
reality, my gosh, wow,he may he may very well have to
shift and be a bullpen guy therest of it his career, if I
get I don't know. Hell,I'm not in the doctor situation. But
(20:04):
this is a long, arduous road, arduous. Good work, really good
work for the comeback. Yeah, and I know people here root for him
already. He'said great skin in thegame here with the Astros. But there
comes a point in time, thissetback thing, and didn't you know what
was coming? Yes, sadness, did you not know that that was coming?
(20:25):
Yes, Because every time you talkabout the two whose name always comes
up in the Garcia mccolor saying,Garcia Garcia, Garcia mccullors has been the
I don't mean he's the afterthought.When you're hurt, you're always an afterthought,
but the afterthought in the conversation. There's never a long time spent on
Lance being ready. There was timespent. Yeah, he looks good.
(20:45):
Garcia's taking steps throwing in the nineties. Blah blah blah. Lance, it's
always well, he's not ramping itup. He's throwing fifteen pitches. He
may get on a mound, he'sthrowing on flat ground, he's playing catch,
making progress. Well, we're notreal sure when we don't really have
a timetable setback. You knew itwas coming, sadly, but you did.
(21:11):
And if I said, twenty twentysix is Lance mccolors a Houston astro,
what do you say? He's undercontract till twenty twenty seven? I
say no? But then what doyou do? You just you can't dfa
him. No, you can't cuthim because then he comes back next year
and gives you some good work. You're sure, So I mean, you're
(21:36):
not going to turn around and givehim sixty million the next town. No,
So no, at some point you'regonna have to do something with him.
And you say, hey, listen, can't trade him because he hasn't
pitched in three years now. There'sno value there right now, no one's
going to take him. So,like I said, couldn't root harder for
him. But the baseball reality isLance mcclors to get back to be in
the Lance mcclors. You knew whenhe was got that money is going to
(21:59):
be a longer haul the rehab itself, just as because when he get back,
you're not sure how long it's gonnalast. He hasn't pitched a full
season since twenty twenty one, twentytwenty one, Sean, He's not throwing
a ball off a mount in twentytwenty four. He's just not no in
a game on a major league level. And it sucks because I really like
(22:21):
the guy. Man. He canbe, you know, precise and dynamic,
but sometimes I mean we can sithere and beat around it and say,
oh, you know, and wedo. I think we both feel,
you know, that you'd love tohave. And what a difference he'd
make, especially now with all theinjuries, if he was healthy. Dana
Brown said it on this show, said he was counting on him, Yes,
(22:42):
him and Luis Garcia. And whatI say the second that interview was
over, I love Dana, thankyou, but I'm going to disagree on
one half of that. Yeah,I'm counting on Garcia. I wasn't counting
on the other guy. No,just because of the lack of enthusiasm on
his comeback up from him from howpeople were talking. No, first pitch,
(23:03):
you'll see Lance mccullor's throw off amound in a major league uniform.
We'll be next year, right, not this year, hopefully next year,
right, all right? The Astrosneeded starting pitching before yesterday's game, and
now Lance mccullors junior has a setback, so that intensifies what the Astros need
to do as the tradeline gets closerand closer. We're discuss the next on
(23:23):
sports Stock seven to eighty. TheSewn Salisbury Show continued, getting set to
open their training camps in a coupleof weeks. A lot of movement with
these conference realigned, with the conferencerealignments, so forth, and so on.
Mike Gundy had some things to say. We'll go through that later on
(23:45):
in the show starts continuing to stickwith the Houston Astros. Lance mccullor's junior
having a setback, according to JoeAspata, so that just heightens the Astros
need for starting pitching. You haveso many different injuries, and Dana Brown
has said it on this show thatthey were counting on lancemcculors and Luis Garcia.
(24:08):
Luis garcias said to make another rehabstart. He should be back hopefully
by the end of this month.Justin Verlander is still no timetable for him
to return. He's playing catch, feeling better. But still, like I
said, no timetable. So Sean, you know we talk about want to
have a big bopper in the lineup, like a vlad Gar or junior or
(24:29):
whoever it might be over at firstbase to try to fix that problem.
I think starting pitching is going tobe more of a premium when it comes
to the trade deadline than anything.I don't think there's any question about it.
Their bats are good enough to wina World Series. Just look all
the all the talk, well theycan't score runs, and I know they've
had the you know, runners inscoring position and all that, all of
(24:52):
it. I get it, getit, But I will tell you this,
the bats are good enough to wina World Series and pitching at times
as it's the depth of the pitchingthat's got to concern you. Will you
wear the bullpen out? Do you? I mean, you're looking for a
sixth starter and you're trying to findthe fifth whoever that is is going to
be consistently or fifth starter, Andnow mccullors, you're not seeing him,
(25:15):
so don't count on him. Therehas to be something done at the at
the at the trade deadline. Beforethere has to be there just has to
be so am I are there acertain positions say yeah, but we need
a big Bobbert first base. Great, Okay, that that's fine because it's
become it's it's an offensive a bitof an offensive weakness. There's no question.
(25:37):
Now, are you really gonna tellme if you had stud starter stud
first baseman this year? Who doyou need more? Right now? Yeah?
You need the pitching justin Verland, there is an update. He's not
doing anything yet, So you can'ttell me in my mind that as much
as I'd love to look over thereand see Vlad Guerrero Junior Pee Alonzo at
(26:02):
they can score enough rounds with thislineup when Kyle Tucker's back, and they
will score enough ruends. And bythe way, Kyle Tucker, I've come
to the conclusion, I'm not adoctor. I'm just not. No way
on God's green Earth, that's abone bruce. No, there's just not
whatever whatever going on, there's noway it stops at a bone bruise.
And I'd be willing to bet anythingon it. I don't know about you.
(26:23):
I don't believe it that anybody's lyingwhatever. People protect their places,
People protect their place. We saidit was a hairline fracture or some kind
of bone chip or something. Tendays when this thing happened, Yes,
because of a bone bruise. AndI because the reason I'm saying this,
I don't believe. I think KyleTucker's durability would have had his pain threshold
(26:48):
just fine after six weeks of missing, and I know it's painful. I
don't, I don't. I don'tcall anybody liar. I know you protect
your players. That's not lying. Is you gotta skirt around the full truth
when it comes to protecting your teammatesand injuries for whatever reason. I get
it. There is no way that'sa bone bruise, No, no way,
stressed fright. If Verlander's not doinganything right now, don't count on
(27:11):
him anytime soon. Kyle Tucker's nottaking He's not gonna play before the All
Star break, justin Verlander's not pitching, and Lance mccullors is not pitching in
twenty twenty four period. So toanswer your question, while selfish me says
and greedy me says, assuming you'vehad the assets and you were willing to
part with, go get a bopperand go get a pitcher. If a
(27:34):
a big bat at first base. But if you're saying, Sean, they're
both on the table, you canonly choose one. I don't think it's
that you'd be an idiot not toget the pitching. Yeah, you just
would. We would all be anidiot to say I'll take the you know,
the average pitcher and give me acouple of innings over the big bobber
who can hit me twenty five homeruns in the second half of a season.
(27:55):
No, you're taking the starting pitching, especially here when they know pitching
pitching pitching. You have to andnow you still have to count on that
all the guys that are healthy aregoing to stay healthy. There is zero
room for air when it comes toinjury on the pitching staff. The second
(28:15):
half of this season. Yeah, there will be a new body. There
has to be here in this citythat's not in this city right now pitching
for the Astros before the All Starbreak, or I mean before the trade
deadline or at the trade deadline whenwe hit August. There'll be another starter
or reliever or both on this roster. There has to be, Yes,
(28:36):
it has to be. So justthen it goes right into a little bit
of concern. Renelle Blanco's velocity wasdown the entire game last night. In
this seven innings that he pitched again, he pitched well, only gave up
two runs and four hits. Acrossthose seven innings. The velocity on every
pitch was down, and the Marlinsaverage a ninety three point three mile per
hour exit velo off of him.Let's see ross the one in threshold.
(29:00):
He has now thrown one hundred andthree innings and that he's he's never thrown
more than one hundred and twenty fiveinnings in any professional season. So he's
about to hit his highest innings threshold. Now, who'd you say? Yes?
And guess what. Guess who's comingdown the pike with theirs too?
(29:22):
Yeah, Arraghetty and uh Brown.Yeah. Compared to last year, he
hit it, but he's gonna beright talk, he's going to get close
to it again this year. Sosaying what I'm saying, it's not exactly
I mean, he's pitching. Imean, guy knows how to grind.
But there's still got to be concerned. Will he get tired. It's only
the it'll only be the second timehe's got that inning threshold. So hence
(29:44):
why they want to aside from injuries. Want to implement a six man rotation?
Yeah, here, here's the guaranteethat they're getting other bodies. The
guarantee wanting a six man rotation,Yes, where you find in them.
Yeah, because you can bring upyou can bring up Jake bloss back up
to the major league level. Butthat's a rookie that's throwing one professional game,
(30:04):
that's my point, and then you'regoing to count on that to get
you to the finish line. Notthat he can't eventually, Dude, he
started one game and they had tothey had to set him down because he
was sore right one game. Sowhile he may be great in the future,
if you're relying on big time, guess what big time is, you're
gonna have to go pluck him somewhereelse. And I don't know if that's
(30:26):
a front line super stud I mean, but it's got to be a guy
who can give you a start everyfive days, you know. I mean
you look at some of these nameslike that are that are being linked to
other teams. I mean, yougot Chris Bassett from Toronto, You've got
uh I don't even know if he'sgoing to be available. What Nathan Uvaldi
from the Rangers. Rangers, apparently, according to rival executives, they might
(30:49):
be uh sellers come the deadline, barring a dramatic turnaround, which we hit
on a little bit yesterday. Sowho knows if Uvaldi's available. Kakuchi for
Toronto Blue Jays. He's been okaythis season, Zach Eflin from the Tampa
Bay Rays, Tyler Anderson from theAngels, haesus Lozardo, who's been on
(31:10):
the sixty day I l so,I mean, there's like there's names out
there, but they're just guys. But you know what, innings eaters,
even though you could have you couldhave done this in the freaking spring training
and gotten an innings eater because MichaelLorenzen is a name that's been talked about
as a trade piece for the Rangersand you could have got him. But
they may be better than guys herewith the bats of potential here and getting
(31:33):
healthy. Think about this. WasRenel Blanco just a guy before this?
She was Hunter Brown early in theseason. Potential, But what was he
we talked about, We talked aboutsending him down. Just a guy,
right, Yes, Raic Gatty, good spring training talk. You didn't expect
him to be counted on on aregular basis in twenty twenty four, Taylor
(31:55):
Scott, Yeah, bullpen seven inningsor I'm sorry, seventeens and seven years.
He ain't just a guy when hegot here. Yeah, okay,
you want me to go through theThere's been a bunch of just the guys
that you know what, oh beforehe's out, But what was JP France
before he got up here? Hewas just a guy? Those just the
guys have turned out to be theor one of the most important Arraghetty eaton
(32:23):
innings, Hunter Brown becoming a stud, Renel Blanco being your ace. Those
guys were just a guy, rightand now Hunter Brown was not supposed to
be just a guy. But thisyear at times that just a guy.
This year early looks like he lostconfidence and wasn't throwing that just a guy
(32:45):
was thought, well, he's atriple A pitcher right now, and he's
a bullpen guy. Well now lookat him. So point is if Lorenzen
or those names you mentioned, orNathan Valdi, and I got news for
you, Ivaldi's not just a guy. Especially come postseason. You want that
guy on the mountain because he's nastyso and it seems to always improve when
they come here. Jack Flarerty isanother name for the Tigers when Flarity's on
(33:10):
and going. Patrick Corbyn from Washington. Those are more than just guys.
All those guys you named, somebodywill be on this rasp oh yeah or
two. Yeah, they have to. No, there's no question about it.
I don't know if you can surviveit if there's not, especially if
you have one more injury. Now, thank goodness for great talent, but
(33:31):
at what point in time do youget to the point where you're on your
seventh pitcher from the seventh supposed tobe just a guy and relying on him
to continue to be great for you. Right, Eventually you run out of
luck. Yeah, or it takesa little more time for those guys to
settle in. But kudos to guyslike Renel Blanco who've gone from just a
(33:52):
guy to just that guy. Yeah, it's amazing. Yeah, Renel Blanco
has been fantastic for the Houston ashTros. From Valdez, you're up.
What do we expect from him?At sext on Sports Talk seven to eighty.
Let the celebration start war Sean Salisburyit's a Seawan Salisbury show. I'm
(34:14):
waiting. I'm waiting. I'm waitingfor Shonda. Give me you are so
it's okay, safe place. Ididn't, I didn't ask you a question.
Safe place? Yeah, No,I said, can I can I
be honest here? Totally honest? He is partially honest? Partially yeah.
Uh. Had a couple of buddiesreach out to me yesterday and they are
very proud of Tripley's zoid bandwidth.Who isn't I'm not kidding, who is?
(34:37):
Like a couple of guys asked meabout some segments that end of the
show yesterday and they're just really happyfor Tripley. I mean, I I
really think zoid bandwidth is is hit. Yeah, merch soon March we put
(34:58):
I'm going to take credit for that. We put HISID band with on a
T shirt. Some like hotcakes zoidbandwidth dot dot dot. Do hotcakes even
sell still? Hotcakes or cakes?Cakes? They sell like hotcakes? Yeah?
Oh y, I think hotcakes sell. Pancakes always sell, especially when
you get the like this full stack. You know all you can eat full
(35:20):
stack? What is it? Afull stack is what they call? No?
Uh uh, I call it afull stack. I don't know what
they call they is. I don'tknow who is they, but I don't
know the people who run the hop. I guess I hop. You know
the hope, the hub man elscrew the hop until they deliver me a
free call them hotcakes. You gota short stack, you got three fluffy
(35:43):
pancakes. A full stack is five. I'd knock down five full stacks right
now. See, I love maplesyrup on a full stack. And let
me just tell you something to allyou pancake people out there, bacon pancakes.
Don't serve me old pancakes because itdoesn't mean no good. If I
wanted a piece of bread, I'dgo get it. Two is, don't
(36:06):
leave him sitting up there by thatheating lamp that you think actually keeps him
hot. It's getting sent back ifyou at any cold pancakes, which I
don't like to do. But here'sanother thing. You gotta deliver hot syrup.
You have to. I've never understoodthe whole concept. And don't give
me the beans in and out ofchili right now. Argument, Okay,
(36:28):
you can argue that all you one. This is simple hot pancakes. Hot
syrup, soft butter delivered to youwith your pancakes. If you're not doing
that, your pancakes suck ass.Okay, simple, And I'm talking to
you. Hop I'm talking to youDenny's. I'm talking to you all you
breakfast places out, every one ofthem. Whoa, I haven't been to
(36:52):
many of them in a long time, but I'm just telling you, if
you're not ramping up your hot I'mtalking to every breakfast I'm talking to First
Water, I'm talking all of them. If you're serving cold, I'm talking
to you, Mickey, these nuts, Yeah, okay, I'm talking to
you too, Water Burger serve pancakes. Yeah, I'm talking to them too.
Okay, okay, no breakfast placeis safe right now from Seoan.
(37:13):
That's exactly right, bathing their assup. Yeah, okay, you brought
it up. Do hot cakes stillsell your damn rites? They do?
But if you I'm not the guythat sends back will my steak was a
little if it's if it's hot andgood, and I know they made an
effort in but you can't serve coldpancakes and then back that up with syrup.
That's just right out of the thing. Without warming up the syrup.
(37:35):
Yeah, to melt the butter you'regonna put on your pancakes or some people
put see, I'll put some whippedcream for fun on a on a top
of like a waffle. Yeah,I got, I got the three tiered
thing. Waffles got to have somesyrup and whipped cream like at a brunch.
Pancakes are just butter and syrup. You don't put anything on pancakes.
Maybe a little cinnamon sprinkled on ifyou want, like a little cinnamon on
(37:58):
top of the pancake. That'll havea little flavor to it. And then
with French toast, it's got tobe the butter, powdered sugar, and
syrup. But guess what they allgot to be not hot powdered sugar,
butter, syrup, and the pancake, waffle or French toast you deliver has
got to be hot and the syruphas to be so hot that the butter
(38:21):
melts. If not, and thendon't serve me a stick of butter you
pulled out of the freezer. Okay, if you're doing all those things,
you'll you're serving hot cakes. Theysell if you're not anybody who serves cold
pancake or pancakes that aer lukewarm andhot syrup. You're trash. So did
a breakfast place hurt you? No, I haven't had a pa. I
(38:44):
haven't ordered a pancake at a breakfastplace in years years, probably three two
or three years. Or French toastprobably the most recent. But I will
tell you I'm not a snob aboutany of that. But if the syrup's
cold and the pancakes or lukewarm, they are getting sent back. Okay,
don't leave it sitting under a heatlamp. Heat lamp doesn't do anything.
(39:04):
It's like a surf. If theysay it's like a big old plate of
spaghetti that's like at one of thosebuffets, and they put a sterno underneath
it, it's gonna keep it warm, you're the your damn rights man,
And every and every every single foodthing, I don't care if it comes
from Chinese food, Mexican food.If you're at a buffeto of brunch and
(39:29):
you've got sterno underneath it, andyou got a bunch of of taketos that
are trying to keep one taketo hotand the other forty that you got sitting
in there, a cold. I'lltell you the key one is at a
breakfast place. When you go toa brunch, is the eggs benedict.
They'll sit there. Don't give mewhere it went from medium media, but
do you will, you'll get aboutthe eighth one. Yeah, a sternal
(39:52):
lamp. Ain't do a little sternno candle, then, ain't doing it?
Heat that bitch up? Okay,so I'm not. But when it
comes to that, don't do youwant Okay, you want cold spinach?
All right, pay me on yoursalad with spinach. Oh yeah. My
point is if you want to winthe pancake or that battle, the breakfast
battle, better to serve it hotterthan think, well, lukewarm works.
(40:16):
Nah, I ain't doing it.That's why I'm eventually gonna open a restaurant
bar, and I'm gonna tell youit'll dominate, because the food will be
good and the beer will be cold, period, and the service will be
off the charts. You ain't wait. Matter of fact, I'll stand over
your ass like a ninja to makesure your stuff's hot. Okay. I
don't know why you got me allfired up to pancakes. I didn't think
(40:36):
that it was the trigger points,so would be a sold pank curve.
Served me a cold pancake with coldsyrup, and I'll shut your ass down.
You know what I've I'm kind offiguring out right now. TRIPLEI is.
I think when Sean was an Escondidolike one of his favorite spots is
kind of him over on some paintsthe local breakfast spot and Escondido, Ye
didn't serve cold pancakes. That's justit they made. And if it comes
(40:58):
back all, what what's the loudchef that goes crazy on people? What's
his name? Gordon Ramsey? Yourass out right there? Gets downs pancakes
back in here. Don't serve coldpancakes and lukewarm syrup, or you're fired
tomorrow. Yeah, that's me.It's all. If you serve it cold,
I eat it. It's free.If I'm if I own the restaurant,
(41:20):
I'm just telling you straight, what'swhat's it? What's the restaurant bar
gonna be called SUSY's right, Ilike to call it, Well, don't
big sALS. I don't know whatI'm gonna do it, but I'm gonna
tell you what it's. It's gonnawork because it's gonna be and when people
come far and wide too, it'slike a good barbecue place. You'll drive
two hours for it. Yeah,it's the same thing here. You're serving
cold pancakes, your trash, simplehuge key for Sean Salisbury. Don't serve
(41:44):
cold pancakes or or or waffles.Yeah, don't leave them under some heating
lamp for five minutes and bring itto me. Well, we're busy,
Hire two, hire two other people. Okay, you're busy, so's everybody.
You're too. Oh, well,we're really swamped today, No kidding.
It's Saturday morning at eight you're sowell, we're a little shy.
It's we don't it's Saturday. You'reswamped. Guess what. That's when everybody
(42:08):
works on a Saturday at eight o'clock. And then you could have your ten
dollar tip. Fill me dog,Yeah I feel you on that one.
On a three dollar meal, youserve me hot pancakes, dude, I'll
triple tip your ass cold pancakes.I'll steal tip you because I'm a good
guy and in the kinder gentler,I just won't eat him. I'll just
tell you, don't serve cold pancakes. Cold sirrup you get the trash out
of here. So that's why Idon't order it, because the risk of
(42:30):
cold pancakes. They come out coldermore than they do hot. That's sad.
Yep, not good. Just gethot biscuits and gravy and you're good
to go. There you go.Let's get to the seven o'clock hour.
Huge key for Farmer Valvedez. Tonight. What is it that's next? A
houstond to Houston. Then Ihard RadioStation, the exclusive audio home of NBC's
coverage of the twenty twenty four ParisOlympics. This is Sports Talk seven ninety
(42:57):
and the Rockets. You're a homefor You are a home teams driven by
that classic elite Do you a GMCStudios for the elite car buying experience?
Salisbury, ol Salbury. Okay, let's do this. Sean Salisbury, there
(43:20):
to usc truth. Longtime friend,Shawn Salisbury, Brian Lima, go Lobos.
This is the Sean Salisbury Show. You don't put it on there to
prevent soggy, there's no question, but you give them. You give soft
butter on the side for those andI'm true some don't even like butter.
Because you got the syrup and whateveryou put on top of it. You
may not even need butter. Somelike the butter just because that's what you
(43:43):
grew up with. It's got tobe soft, got to be on the
side. And I said this, there's an art eating the pancake too.
You don't just cover it all insyrup. Why soggy sucks as well?
Yes it does if it sits thereand you're eating pash browns and a sausage
on the side, and you're dippingit in the pad of the sausage into
the syrup. All that stuff thesoggy sits in, and soggy pancakes are
just as bad as cold. Hemade that point. But there's an art
(44:07):
to it. You put it ona little bit, like a fourth of
it, where you know you're gonnatake a couple of bites, and you
just keep adding the hot piping hotsyrup as you go along. To prevent
soggy butter is the option. Butthe option's got to be soft butter,
not hard butter that you stick ona lukewarm pancake. It just fits in
the middle and doesn't melt. Youget my point. Friggin done, no
(44:29):
breakfait I love breakfast, breakfast, breakfast, Saturday morning breakfast, the best
meal of the day. Yeah, and don't serve me. And I'm talking
about me, and when I sayto me, it's like, no serve
me anybody. If you ever getserved a lukewarm eggs benedict, take send
it back please. My favorite iswhen it's supposed to be an over medium
(44:51):
egg that the yolk breaks when youcut into it, and the Canadian bacon's
on there and all that, andthen you cut into the egg and it
doesn't break because it was sitting inthe cold so long it turned to a
fried egg and there is no yoke. Man, I got to get to
the I gotta get this restaurant inthis bar open man, give pee to
give the people what they really want. And if you order cold pancakes like
if like when you come back andyou say I want a well done steak,
(45:14):
get out of my restaurant. Ilike my pancake, cold good.
Go home and make your own.You feel good? Now you feel it
better? Give me a boy.You said you wanted stray thrown, Well
I threw them all and I wasn'tnaming one. I was naming them all.
You want to get breakfast right, serve it hot and let me decide
when I want to cool it down, and I won't sue you if it
(45:35):
burns my tongue. You want toknow why, because when I go through
a line and get hot coffee, hence the word hot, if I spill
it when I drive away because I'man idiot. Yeah, and I don't
have the top on it. Itspills and it and it makes you It
burns your leg. You should sueme for being just a dumb ass.
Okay, give me four, giveme five x breakfast sunch is and a
(45:57):
hot coffee. Well, the hotcoffee burn my lips, No kidding,
then you're just qualify as a dumbass. I'm throwing straight, dude. Strays
are everywhere today, So did youwant to do a full stray segment?
No, I'm good, like towhere we open up the phone line.
I'm good. I've emptied. It'stime to get back to astro stock And
it was on pancakes. Well, did you Sometimes we all have a trigger?
(46:22):
Yeah, I get it. Andyou spend all the money people are
spending out there, especially now,you deserve for the price you pay to
get it done right. And ifI if I'm the restaurant boss or if
I'm the owner the general manager, and I got to take it back three
times and throw it away and costmy restaurant money to get make sure you're
happy, then that's exactly what I'mgoing to do. And I still don't
(46:45):
understand the uncomfortable seats in a bar. Do you make me want to leave
after like eight minutes because there's nopadding in my ass? Hurts so damn
bad. I want to get upfrom the bar. I'm on one today,
Dude, I at a bar,I have to have tall seats with
a back and padding on the backand on the thing. Yeah, well,
we don't want people to sit atthe bar too long. We want
them to leave. Well, great, you want me to leave after a
(47:06):
half hour? An hour? Doyou want me to leave after? If
I'm comfortable, almost spend more moneyfor you and Tippy better. If I
got to sit on one of thosewood things at my ass, hurt's so
bad. I got to go geta dog on chiropractor. Elevate it,
dude, elevate your game. Spenda little extra on the front end as
a bar owner and a restaurant ownerto get great customer service on the back
(47:27):
end, they'll never quit coming toyour place. How much do you think
a full stack of original buttermilk pancakescosts it? I hop right now they
should cost less than they should costless than five bucks. But they cost
like seven ninety five or eight ninetyfive. We five and guess what?
So do you not deserve Yeah, the batter on a pancake. You can
(47:47):
make fifty of them at home forlike three bucks. Yeah, the batter
on a panic. Okay, Soif you're spending ten bucks, do you
deserve lukewarm pancakes? No? Ideserve Well, we're busy. Yeah,
I know you're busy Saturday morning duringfootball season. I understand why you're busy.
Hire two more people and then youwon't have to have a problem with
it. There you go. There'smy rant and my bitch. I don't
(48:09):
do it much kinder gentler Sean untilthis morning. So when when I'm now
post about Renelle Blancle, that's whythis is, That's where all this comes
from. Collateral damage him not gettingan All Star. I'll start nod right
Well, hopefully from val does doesn'tpiss you off tonight? Well, I
don't know what I'm going to get, so I go in with zero at
I go in with no expectations. You have no idea when I go to
(48:30):
breakfast, I have expectations when Igo with Fromber all the goods of bonus.
When he doesn't pitch good, Ijust know that he's having a metal
tough day, okay, and Ijust leave it at that. Let's hope
some uh, let's hope some adversitydoesn't hit tonight for Fromber. Yep,
that would be great. He's sevenand five three point eight e r A
(48:52):
seventy two k's on the season. He's on the bump tonight against Brian Hoeing.
Why are you laughing at Brian Hoan? Why you holing dog because he's
got to eat too? Why whyare you talking laughing at the posts Brian
Hoing? He out there? Hoen? Yeah? Why you gotta laugh at
his name? You think mister andmissus Hoing things on a funny because I'm
(49:14):
a child sometimes man, you knowwhat I mean. I mean, you're
Brian little lima. Stop you evengotta know? Why Why did you just
think I don't know what it's always? He laughed too. Yeah, that's
what I'm saying, what is it? What is it? This ever connection?
And I'm just out here to beracing. Do we look like Steve?
(49:38):
Do we look like Stevie Wonder? And Phil Collins? Is that the
one hundred percent? It's Michael Jacksonand Phil Collins? I think? Wasn't
that Andy? Yeah? Did youeven on your birth certificate? You have
underscore between love and Lima? Whichis unbelievable. Who does that? It's
thirty plus years ago and your parentsjust We're gonna get out in front of
(50:00):
it. We're gonna put an underscore. We don't even know what that means
at the time, except it's ona computer. You underscored Lima. The
weirdest thing I've ever heard. Bythe way, it's Paul McCartney and Steven
that's who you are. Listen,Phil, Yeah? Phil? Would I
just would have been better with PhilCollins with you? Who's more okay?
(50:22):
Who pulls more okay? Phil Collinsor Paul McCartney, And who's more of
a basic Iowa Airport, Cleveland Airport. If you didn't know they were singers
walking in the airport, basic whiteguy, that's a tough one, A
tough one. I think and they'reboth aren't both of them? Uh born
(50:43):
across the pond. I don't thinkPhil Collins is as American. I know
Paul McCarty English. So we gottoday's the basic white guy not born in
the US. Man. That's agood one. That's a battle of ages.
What time you want to do thatone at? Let's do it at
like eight fifteen fifteen? Perfect?Yeah, who pulls more Paul McCartney McCartney
or connew McCartney on the just onthe surface, just to give a little
(51:05):
tease because he's a beatle. Yeah, they pull. But if you walk
in and you don't know the music, you're like, look at that basic
white dude walking through the airport ornot. McCartney and Collins would vacation together
as a basic white guys. Theywould, they would. They're the guy
that put on the that that theat the beach, the white stuff that
doesn't rub in the sunscreen rub inAnd they wear socks with open told Sanduels
(51:31):
to walk out to the beat. That's got to be McCartney and Phil Common.
But then when they go jam atnight, they're pulling every zoid in
the plane. There's no question PhilCollins more because the Beatles blow. So
wha Yeah, most overrated man ofall time. Who's better at their job
McCartney on the guitar or back inthe day when he's a front man or
(51:52):
Collins on the ROUMSDDY. I don'tknow McCartney's gonna win that battle because he's
McCartney. But is you to you? Yeah, don't bury the leader.
You make that back to you.Try to make one joke or make one
sentiment about something, and then youtwo always gang up on me. It's
(52:12):
bullying. Yeah, you guys, gas got the right answer in half we
got Michael Jackson, but it wasit was it's a McCartney, not philm
comics two basic that right, right? Yes, white guy, what's my
deal? Basic? But so andthen all of a sudden we come right
back at you. He's got tobe raised, but you're doing It's true.
(52:34):
It's and Ivory Ivory and we wewe just completely tomahawk triple There's no
question Tripley is not a basic whiteguy. That's true. That is true,
Okay, and Ivory right, butI'm not a basic white guy either,
debates it is. I mean, but I'm saying it in the shower.
I feel like, man, I'ma jamming brother right now. Oh
(52:55):
you're a dog in the shower.Yeah, of the beast kind. Yeah.
Then I walk into Iowa. Asidefrom the fact that I'm six five,
I walk into Iowa airport, andyou know, everybody says, there's
this space of white guy. No, no, you because of your height.
You're not a basquay in Iowa airport. Right now. You walk into
a Nebraska airport, big country feddudes over there. Yeah, I gotta
(53:16):
go get me an Omaha steak.Yeah, there you go with you.
Then then you might be a basicway guy in Nebraska. But Iowa.
Are you saying people in Iowa don'thave height? Probably not what happened.
I don't know where that speaking ofalmost basic white city in the country.
Is it, I mean basic white? Is it like or airport? Should
(53:37):
I say I always refer to Clevelandin Iowa? Iowa? Could it be
North Dakota? Probably? Could itbe you know the basic white guys.
Oh, that guy's seen in everyairport, semi balding about five eleven.
Uh, Why are I gotta putthe semi balding on a five towards the
white guy. Yeah, that's kindof well, the white guys are just
(53:58):
that's that's race. Yeah, ofcourse it is the hit the sounder for
what Why dogging your old white guy? Yeah, you put the balding on
the what guy? This is goingon, balding white guy. Yeah,
in the ioway for my favorites, the balding white guy when he's a junior
in high school. You know he'sliving in Cleveland. Cleveland's in his future.
(54:24):
Dude, what's your job? I'man accountant and I'm living That's so
wrong. It's this segment. Let'sgo Let's go to the steakeout next.
First, let's go on. Thisis the Shawn Salisbury Show. All right,
Sean, what are you hearing outthere now? The Salisbury's takeout,
(54:49):
Salisbury's takeout on the Sean Salisbury Show. It's time for the steak out here
on the Seawan Salisbury Show. Sean, Brian and Tripoli here with you.
Astros Beat the Marlins are back inaction. Tonight's seven ten, the first
pitch, six o'clock on Deck Show. Astros General manager Dan Brown gonna join
(55:10):
us a nine thirty this morning.Big twelve Media days rolling along over in
Las Vegas. All right for thesteakout Big twelve Media Days. What is
his name? Brett? What's Brett? Your mark? Your mark? The
(55:32):
commissioner for the Big Twelve. Ithink it's your mark. Hey, yeah,
how's the spell? Your mark?Excuse me? Brett? Your mark?
He said yesterday at Big twelve MediaDays that the Big twelve has never
(55:53):
been as relevant as they are todayand they lost Texas and Oklaho. Yes,
is that a shot at Texas andOklahoma? Or do you honestly think
that's truth? Well, it's twothings, well all those three things.
First, it's not the truth.Secondly, it's a flat out lie,
and he knows it. I'm notdogging, he just knows it. And
(56:15):
third it's a definite shot at Texasat Oklahoma, basically saying the two most
dominant Big twelve football teams over theWell, since the Big twelve's had all
the teams in it, the twomost dominant, at least for the most
part, Oklahoma State has been prettydamn good and all that, But the
two most dominant have been those two. Guess what that means. Of course,
(56:38):
it's a dig to say you guysleft as if they took a step
back, going to the SEC juststop it. So No, it's a
flat out hyperbolic bs. Because he'sat his own you know, at the
Big Twelve meet. What's he supposedto say? So I'll give him credit
for that. You got to,like anything, protect your own teams and
protect it now it is the BigTwelve relevant? Hell, yes, it's
(56:59):
relevant. Is the Big Twelve betterthan it's ever been? That answer would
be an absolute no. When itcomes to the quality of football player.
Just lost. We've gained some goodones, but you lost the two biggest
powerhouses in the conference. Simple,No, it's not better. Now you're
gonna try to make it better. That's just a guy who's it'd be like
the guy who's running his own companyin stocks dropped because you're a CFO left
(57:24):
and stocks down and struggling or weatherwhatever for whatever reason, and then guess
what. You get up and say, our situation's never been better, even
though we're down fifteen dollars on stock, when hopefully he'll get back with potential.
But at that very point in time, is it better? The answer
is absolutely not, and we allknow it, and it's just hyperbolic.
(57:45):
Protect your own and you got toprotect your own company, and his company
is the Big Twelve, yeah,he said yesterday. Quote, we solidified
ourselves as one of the top threeconferences in America. There has never been
a better time than right now tobe a part of the Big Twelve.
Truly a national conference in ten states, four time zones, and all eyes
are now on the Big Twelve forall the right reasons. I think it's
(58:07):
safe to say we're more relevant nowthan ever before. End quote. Everything
leading up to that statement is prettytrue for the most part. Go back
to the first sentence, we solidifiedourselves as one of the top three conferences.
Of course they did. They've beenone of the top three conferences in
America anyway when Texas and Oklahoma werethere. Everything's fairly true. Yes,
(58:29):
they're a national they got teams indifferent states and all that in cities obviously,
But the last line's not true thatthey're better than they've ever now maybe
financially at least on the service, but without Texas and Oklahoma at least today.
No, you're not that. Andoh, Lotti frickin dah you said
(58:51):
you're one of the top three conferences. That's something we already know. And
those three conferences these talking about aresimple, the SEC, the Big Ten,
and the Big twelve. And thenyou can argue all you want,
since there is no Pack twelve anymore, that the next one is the ACC.
Great, so you're third out offour and I love the Big Twelve,
(59:12):
but they've been third out of fourfor a minute anyway, even when
Texas and Oklahoma were in it.You could make the argument for number two.
But for the most part the lastfew years, depending on how you
look at it, football wise,it's been SEC, Big Ten and a
team or two like TC. You'regetting to the national title, Texas getting
to the final four. Great, some really good, top heavy teams.
(59:36):
Kansas State winning Big Twelve is ahell of a conference. It didn't all
of a sudden get ten times betterovernight because Texas and Oklahoma left. That's
absurd. Is it a relevant conference? It's a top three, yes,
but the only one. Well hedoes have the argument's top three guess why
also, and it's been better thanthe Pac twelve overall recently football wise.
(01:00:00):
Yet, I do believe Washington andOregon been in the national title hunt recently
as well. Anna Heisman Trophy winnerscome out out of the Pac twelve right
two years ago and Caleb Williams. But point is no argument. But you
just lost a Power five conference,so you're down to four and you're in
the top three. Well great, and they've been in the top three.
(01:00:20):
So he really didn't tell us anythingwe didn't know. And major hyperbole by
saying that it's so much better withoutTexas and Oakland. I mean, he
didn't say that, but that's adig and you know it's not true.
But I'd be pissed at him ifhe didn't say how relevant the pack the
Big twelve is, because it's veryrelevant. I can tell you this.
If you'd just stood up and said, hey, we may be. We're
(01:00:42):
in the top top one when itcomes to basketball conferences in the powerful four.
Who's arguing that. Hell, youadded Kelvin and his team in Houston.
I mean, no doubt they've beenas good as Areas, but overall
top three, they've been a topthree the conference. We in a bit.
Okay, you tell me Colorado andTexas who you want in the Big
(01:01:04):
twelve? I want I want theTexas Longhorns. You think, okay,
that's we fairly? Who else?Arizona State. Yeah, Arizona State or
Oklahoma. I'll give me o youunless you're going on spring break to Arizona
State, you're calling so so,yes, he's right on a lot of
(01:01:27):
it. But when you lose twopowerhouses, you didn't strengthen your conference.
But it is a top three conferenceand no doubt in a hell of a
a hell of a sports conference. You want to talk about strays, We've
been talking strays all morning. Brettor Mark will do anything and everything to
get a dig at Texas, andou of course he will get over it.
Bro at some point it's going tohave to get over And they didn't
leave to go to be a partof the Mountain West, left to go
(01:01:51):
be in the SEC. So wecan argue all you want, but let's
put our egos in our homerism aside. We live in a big twelve city.
Now. The bottom line is Texasin Oklahoma are pretty good. I
think Oklahoma's women's softball teams pretty good. So we're talking about all the sports.
Texas got pretty good basketball, Oklahomacan play play decent sports, a
pretty good football program. Houston's greatat basketball. But you want to tell
(01:02:14):
me if you say Sean over thenext couple of years. Which conference do
you want for college hoops? Men'scollege hoops? Give me Big twelve all
day, and I'll compete with theACC Big ten, SEC. SEC is
pretty damn good. They've actually elevatedtheir basketball player with the Alabama's you know,
resurgence. We know what Kentucky isand the a c C is always
going to have the duke in NorthCarolina's. But overall, Big twelve isn't.
(01:02:37):
The top three was when Oklahoma andTexas were there and still is.
But you didn't strengthen a conference byreplacing Colorado for Texas. Sorry, you
just didn't. And we know that. Yeah, that's a fact. Even
Colorado knows that, whether they admitit or not. Yeah. Sticking with
college football, Mike Gundy, headcoach Oklahoma State, talked about his star
(01:03:01):
running back who got arrested on suspicionof dui. Interesting comments from Mike Gundy.

It's a connection you can count on. The Shawn Salisbury Show continued Ollie
(01:04:47):
Gordon. He brought Ollie Gordon tooBig twelve media days to hold himself account
or hold the running back accountable forhis arrest on suspicion of Dui. He's
the Dope Walker Award winner from lastyear for the best running back in college
football, going in as a Heismanfavorite this season. We got into excuse
(01:05:08):
me, the issue with the Duior suspicion of Dui arrest, and people
didn't think he was going to showup. Well, Mike Gundy talked about
that arrest and here excuse me.And one of the things Sean that he
mentioned in this again is triple He'sgonna get that audio for us. But
(01:05:31):
one of the things that he mentionedwas basically he had a choice to not
bring him or bring him, andhe wanted the kid to hold himself accountable
for the mistake that he made.It seems like the Ringbager didn't Chubb Hubbard
and Mike Gundy have a situation atone point in time during was it COVID?
(01:05:53):
Was it the way Gundy approached theteam, wasn't there or what he
said in an interview. Didn't Gundyhave a an issue with a running back
there? I'm not saying this isan issue because it is for a completely
different situation. Feels like running backsof Mike gundhy at at Oklahoma State of
run into didn't gun He says,I'm getting some hot water about a comment
he made and some of the teammateshe had a meeting with them after this
(01:06:15):
was like four years ago, andam I crazy about he wore a shirt?
Remember he wore a shirt They're likefor for for for a conservative networks.
I'm just telling you, I'm notI'm not not wrong on this.
And then a running back transferred towas threat, came back and was going
to transfer that it has Mike,Mike's always got a little heat around him.
(01:06:39):
I know he's had run ins withthe people above him, the the
you know, athletic director, butevery coach and athletic director at some point
in time, butts of little heads, right, So I'm just curious,
Am I right or wrong? Hewore a O A N T shirt on
free speech. Okay, there's that, and they addressed him in a running
there you go, like I saidHubbard and had a problem. Yeah,
(01:07:00):
he said, I will not standexcuse me. This was June fifteenth to
twenty twenty. Shubba Hubbard said,I will not stand for this is completely
insensitive to everything going on in society, and it's unacceptable. I will not
be doing anything with Oklahoma State untilthings change whatever that And I don't even
know for all reasons having a conversation, but I just remember that. And
when you say running back, althoughthis was self inflicted by the running back
(01:07:24):
going out and getting himself in troublein this current situation, but good running
backs and Mike Gundy, there's alwaysthere's he either has to make a decision
on one or has had a runin with the other. They've had there
and when you've got a strong personality, it's going to happen. How you
handle it with this current situation inthe past is how how you move forward
and listen, everybody runs through toughtimes. It's the whole key is how
(01:07:47):
you handle the damn thing, andnot only as a player in an organization
or in the you know, youknow the frustration, whether it's an athletic
director who border Regent's president of theschool like Gundhy, your players. Listen,
there's a lot of bodies to gothrough that you can't keep everybody happy.
It's the key of making sure thatyou handle it properly after the you
(01:08:11):
know, the adversity set. Andthis is another situation Mike cast too,
now he's got to manage with within reference to his star running backs yep.
And so this is Mike Gundy talkingabout Olie Gordon being arrested for suspicion
of the UI. So I lookedit up on my phone. What would
be the legal limit like in Oklahoma'spoint eight and Ollie was point one.
(01:08:38):
So I looked it up and itwas based on body weight, not to
get into the legal side of it, but I thought, really two or
three beers or four I'm not justifyingwhat all he did, I'm telling you
what decision I made. Well,I thought I've probably done that a thousand
times in my life, and I'myou know, it's just fine. So
I got lucky. People get lucky. All. He made a decision that
(01:08:59):
he wish he could have done better. But when I talked to Ollie,
I told him said, you're luckyyou got out light because you make a
lot of money to play football. So back in the day, being able
to cover the cost of what he'sgoing to go through would be difficult for
a college player. It's not forhim. Now I'm not speaking for him,
but I'm just saying that's not anissue for him. So nobody got
(01:09:21):
hurt. I said, we seepeople doing this and people losing their lives
across the country, not just footballplayers but everybody. So you got out
lucky. That's my Gundhy. Hedid not suspend Oli Gordon for that.
D u I arruss. I feellike that answer, Sean is a very
very honest answer. When when it'ssomething like this and there's a problem in
(01:09:43):
this country with d UI's and drunkdriving accidents and vehicular manslaughter and everything that
comes with those decisions, I feellike in that moment, he probably should
have just given you the stereotypical political, politically correct answer. Yeah, and
you know what, but Mike Gundhyrarely does that true. And I'll be
honest with you, not for onesecond was his running back smart by doing
(01:10:04):
what he did. Absolutely not,and you cannot condone it. But Mike
Gundy, like you know, wewant to bury him and say, listen,
how many of us have done somethinglike that stupid and said when you
got home, shouldn't have done it, that we're making a judgment. Well,
I'm a big guy, can handlea one shot at Tequilan a beer.
(01:10:26):
And yet, no matter what, your judgment has to be somewhat impaired.
Right, how many have driven?Oh it's just a mile away now
you want to now, now dothe math on this. How many of
those statistics are within a mile ortwo of your home or where you're going?
And yes, my gun, he'sone hundred percent correct. He got
away with it when we got luckybecause it's not just you you're protecting,
it's everybody else in the car.We just lost an NFL player due to
(01:10:49):
a drunk driving by somebody else. And Kyrie Williams is that who was right?
We just lost him in his twenties, liking right, losing his life
because somebody crossed over the divider centerin a head on right collision. So
you can't sit at a bar.And I'm not this isn't self righteous.
(01:11:12):
We we've all done stupids, whetherit's one beer or four beers or whatever
is and put keys in our pocketand stuck them in ignition. That doesn't
make it right. It actually makesus fairly stupid. Hints why we have
uber and lyft and all those thingsto protect you now, but uh,
let it be learned that you gotyou're you're safe now and nobody got hurt.
(01:11:32):
But the next time or the thirdtime, in Ali's situation, it
may not be the same. Sovaluabless and I don't believe when a guy
makes a mistake we automatically have tosuspend somebody for stupidity. If that's the
case, every coach on that staff, I'll just say this, I don't
know every coach. I would imagineevery coach on that staff has made a
decision that they shouldn't have made andnobody knew about it because they didn't.
(01:11:55):
Because it says nothing bad happened, right, they didn't get pulled over,
and think how many times you gotyou he lights flashing? It was that
for me, and it was hehad three beers and you're like, oh
my gosh, and you panic andit sobers you up because you get home
and say, oh, never again. So I'm not condoning at all what
my Gunny says. Right one point, Oh you're over the limit and you're
an idiot for putting. I mean, you made a bad decision. Should
I say, But what Mike Gunnysaid, what's not He did a little
(01:12:17):
research to what's not true about it. So if keeping it in house is
saying you learned a lesson, thenext time this happens, it may not.
And it's not so much the suspension. The next time it happens,
it may be somebody's life, somake smarter decisions. But every single one
of us has to have that lesson, adult and kid and teenager and football
(01:12:38):
player. So I'm okay with itas long as this lesson is learned.
I don't have a problem with Gandhibeing honest. He's thinking what all of
us said, how many times haveyou justified it to yourself? You drank
two beers and got behind it it. Truthfully, we all have. I'm
not saying that that's not a paton the back or it's not a hey,
cool I got away with it.It's dumb, and I don't do
(01:13:00):
it anymore, and none of usshould. He was fortunate and so were
people in other cars or whoever waswith him. So when it comes to
that, I don't have a problemwith Mike Gundy being honest about it,
and he was very He was veryhonest with that response. In regards to
Olli Gordon, let's stay with collegefootball with these media days rolling along,
you know what that means at thestart of the season is right around the
(01:13:21):
corner. Who are some college headcoaches that are on the hot seat?

(01:15:14):
cut. Don't let mamas, don'tlet your babies grow cowboys, the one
where you know the song I'm thinkingof say that again? Who was it?
What was the lyrics singing for us? Is it Chris Young where he's
uh where his talks about uh butdon't work your life away? Mama said,
(01:15:35):
Grandpa said, Mama said, Grandmasaid, just giving him advice about
voices. That song is good, good song. That song you'll come back
with that. No, this, dude, that song blows just for a
little. It's got a little rhythmtime here more. You need to hear
(01:15:55):
more voices. You need to hearsome more voices. Oh yeah, he
says, My yeah, My dad'ssaying, worked that job, don't work
your life away. Yeah, songsuck. Yeah, it applies to some
people out there. Yeah you knowwhere I'm going. Yeah, plenty of
them saying that Daddy said work thatlife, don't work your life way.
(01:16:15):
There's plenty of it. Took dad'sadvice that ain't working for squad. Yeah,
you ain't kidding? Oh hey, triple E you get is it is?
It was? I right, Christ, you're gonna give me that.
Voices cut at eight fifteen, leadinginto that's what, leading into are you
kidding me? Leading into who Pulls? Why would McCartney Phil Collins average?
(01:16:40):
Is it an average white guy song? It no voices? It's Phil Collins
and Paul McCartney battling philm It's notPhil McCartney, Phil Collins, McCartney.
No, it's Paul McCartney and MichaelJackson. What you oh, that's the
who pulls more? Yes, that'sa who pulls more? Correct Phil,
Phil Collins? Correct? The theebony and ivory thing that you said was
(01:17:03):
Michael Jackson led to the song. No, dude, when we said ebony
and ivory, I said, oh, you mean Phil Collins and Michael Jackson
And you said, no, that'swhat you said. We gave it another
name. He said, you lookedit up and said, no, it's
Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson. It'sPaul mccarny and Stevie Wonder. There's a
Stevie Wonder. Michael Jackson's Michael. So we screwed up on the white guy.
(01:17:23):
Okay, you know, well youknow basic black guy, two basic
white guys. Well, Michael Jacksonstarted out as black and then he you
know, I don't know what happened. It is Stevie Wonder, right,
I mean he he didn't take hispigment out or something like that. I
don't know. You you got alittle wider. He got a little wider.
He's like Sammy Sosa. He gotlike you see Sammy Sosa lately.
Yeah, Sammy has never been ablack guy because gys wider than I.
(01:17:46):
Yeah, Sammy did Sammy with thedouble bleacher. Let's get this. So
we screwed up with the whole facteverything. Yeah, so it's backtrack.
It's not Phil Collins, he's abasic white guy though. Correct. It's
it is Paul McCartney who is abasic white guy. Correct. Which will
be the segment of who pulls More, which we pull out about every once
in every six to eight weeks. It's been a while of these two average
(01:18:10):
white guys you see in the Clevelandairport, correct McCartney and Collins, but
which led to Ebany and I haveread that both Tripley and I said,
well, that's gotta be racist.But it's a song, so it's really
not racist, but it sounded good. Sammy Sosa is not part of it,
although he's whiter than all the averagewhite guys. And you know,
whatever bleach he's using, I needto use it on my floor to make
(01:18:31):
sure I get that thing going, okay, but he can hit home runs
and it was a hell of aplayer. You don't even look like the
Sammy Sosa I'm using to. Nowyou want to talk about a bass white
guy walking through the airport, SammySosa, You'll never know who, dude,
I played baseball? You're assay? So back Tripoli. So it is
Stevie Wonder, yes, because there'snothing basic about Stevie Wonder, and there
(01:18:51):
really was nothing basic about Michael Jackson, although he was a little bit different.
Okay, so we're back to StevieWonder and Paul McCartney, Ebony and
Ivory Well which leads us to twobasic white guys correct, which also leads
us to the song that you don'tlike voices, but we're gonna give you
some voices. You need more ofthem in your head, and we're gonna
give you a basic white guy onon Western Wednesday singing it, leading into
(01:19:14):
that cut, leading into the segmentthat's just the way. There is no
debate here. The only debate waswe don't do who sings eb and Ivory
other than that basic white guy.We named like eight of them. I
just figured, you know, we'dplay Paul McCartney or Phil Collins leading into
that sune. No, they're gonnaget plenty of basic white guy love when
we give him. Who pulls more? So, now we got to play
Chris young one, who is whathe's kind of a he's a redneck and
(01:19:40):
what basic white There you go?There, you go? Ah, you
can't, Okay, who pulls moreChris Younger? Blake Shelton, who's more
basic? Who's got more cheesemo intheir songs? Gotta be Shelton, right,
He's one of the top ones, right, right, Yeah, the
guy could turn The guy can turna blade of grass into a into a
(01:20:02):
cut right, He really can't.That's the one thing Country and Western people
can do that, they'll take something. Hey, man, I walked into
that. I was a little lateto work, or I walked in late.
You know. We ordered a cupof coffee, and I was standing
there and I was looking up atthe board and I saw, you know,
the latte, which is a basicwhite guy coffee, right, And
all of a sudden I made asong of it. How's that latte after
(01:20:26):
bud light together? Right? Well, country of music guys can do that.
Yeah, what were you doing?Oh? Man, I was sitting
in the coffee shop. I wasrunning. I wanted a latte. I
wanted the caramel machiato, which ledme to this. And then he'll turn
the Then he'll turn the caramel macchiatointo like a love story. Oh of
course. He was sitting on theback of I picked the butt of a
pickup truck, grabbed the wrong latte. There she was, But he lost
(01:20:47):
the girl because she didn't like latte. True, she likes carmel lachiato.
She likes black coffee, just likeI do. She called him a bitch
right and broke in. He wanteda milkshake. She wanted real right,
you're no true country boy. That'stough. Yeah, you ain't riding,
you ain't You ain't a you knowwhat, you're a You're not a He's
a poser. He's a he's aposer. He's a plowboy instead of a
(01:21:10):
cowboy. Your favorite song. Wegotta get back to that plowboy in this.
That's unbelievable because you hate the basicwhite guy cuts. That's really what
it comes down to. You hateChris Young. That's what you said earlier.
Yeah, no I don't. Yeah, I can't believe you said you
hate Chris Young. Joe spot us, fuck you about the win last night.

Sean Salisbury usc truth longtime friend SewnSalisbury. Bryan Lima, go Lobo,
(01:22:18):
This is the Sean Salsbury Show.Buddy of Minael said, how does anybody
hate Chris Young? You don't hatechrist You've got great music and do you
hate one of his songs? Sothat means you hate him? I just
think that song blows voices? Yeah, some sid Do you ever hear voices?
Sometimes? No? What? No? You never hear voices? No,
(01:22:43):
Hey, work that job, dude, but do me a favor.
Don't work my life away exactly.Well, you're gonna get used to that
song. You're gonna fall in lovewith it. No, I'm not,
you'll fall in love. You reallyhave to play that next second? Yeah,
just you know what, executive decision. Just hang in there with me,
buddy, hang in there so youknow what, isn't that? Sometimes
you gotta do things you don't wantto do. You know what I'm saying.
(01:23:03):
You gotta. You gotta sacrifice forour listeners. And you know what,
sometimes you gotta you know, strapup your boots, grab your lunch
pail, on your hard hat andget after it. And hey, gird
up your loins, dude, doyou know what that's saying means? What
is it? Gird up your loins. That's not a saying, Okay,
look it up, hit the gI R D. Gird gird up your
(01:23:24):
loins, little biblical saying. It'sbiblical, gird up your loins. Tell
me what does it mean to girdup your loins? Yeah? Put that
on there. Okay, And you'retelling me it's not a saying. Huh,
you really question? This is one, Peter, this is this is
literally a Bible. Uh? DidI not say it's biblical? Let me
(01:23:46):
check that. Let me check theactual gospel. Do that? Look up,
gird up your loins? I willfrom the from the real one that
Yeah, go ahead. Wait,So is it in Peters in Proverbs?
Because that now it's it's you know, dude, if I tell you man,
you listen. And it's also inJeremiah listen. I mean I mean
Bible versus you got well, whenit's mentioned more than once, guess that
(01:24:10):
means it's important. And when itcomes to you getting ready for the Chris
Young Voices song, I'd like youto you know, bow your neck okay
means push your shoulders back and girdup your loins, prepare yourself mentally for
a difficult or challenging situation. Itcomes It comes from the ancient practice of
tucking the hem of a tunic intoa girdle or belt to gain more freedom
(01:24:31):
movement when working, running, orfighting. Okay, so basically you said,
do you not want to hear?Did I not just teach you something?
What? Hold on? So it'slike you're getting Hey, you don't
like the Chris Young cut. You'reyou're you're like bum that is going to
be playing at a eight twelve, eight to fifteen leading into our who pulls
more? Yet with that, Itell you to gird up your loins so
(01:24:55):
you can mentally handle it. Andyou say, that's not say I said,
it's biblic You'll find it in thescriptures. And you're like, no,
let me go to the Bible, which you call No, I said
the Gospel, the Gospel, whichis the Gospel the Bible? Right?
Yeah? Did you say? Iswhat's that called urban diction dictionary? But
girding up? Have you girded upyour loins for the next segment? No,
girt him up, dog hurting,I pull stuff out, well,
(01:25:18):
be useless, dodge gird up yourlouns. I want you to use that
in a sentence around people, likeyou're sitting at a bar or restaurants,
say, you know what, man, hurricaness coming. You better gird up
your loins. Dude. Gird upyour loins is indeed, in urban dictionary,
an old fashioned expression meaning to prepareoneself for action. You want me
to use it in a sentence,Yeah, like you use it for triple
(01:25:39):
E and is zoid in Dallas thathe talked about yesterday? Well here in
the Tripoli's girl needs to gird upher lloyds. That tripley is gonna play
the caller of bizdoch what he says? I that's what you said. Yes,
yeah, it says uh oh damn. The Principal's coming. Gird your
loins. You got to gird himup. Prepare for it. Where the
(01:26:00):
hell do you come up with thisstuff? Facts? Where did you come
from? What's going on? Dude? Yeah? Well of useless knowledge?
So you want me to go,yeah, gird up your loins, prepare
for bumb ass song? Yeah,I would like you to. It's gonna
run a little longer than the cutsyou like to, maybe even longer than
(01:26:21):
uh, we love our I meansomething to do with the textan song whatever
that cut is. God song sucks. Okay, now get back to what
you were saying. So you yourloins are gonna be good at Okay,
I'm ready to go. Okay, here we go show ye. All right,
Well, let's no, we gottime. What you would you say
you wanted to talk about? Didn'tyou want to talk about you talking about
(01:26:41):
Astros or Big twelve? No,no Astros? Yeah, yeah, I
wanted to hear from Joe Spota.Let's hear from there girding up his loins
for injuries. Yeah, got uh. There was an issue with the velocity
from Renewe Blanco last night. Itwas down across all seven innings that he
pitched, coming up on an inningthreshold that he's never pitched in professional baseball.
Here is the manager talking about thevelocity drop. No, no,
(01:27:02):
we are not only we Blanco, but you know, all all our guys.
We are keeping a close eye onthat. You know, we we're
very aware the amount of pitches thatand the innings that he's work in the
past, So we're very much awareof you know, Blanco's workload and and
and you know, we we gotit. We got to protect him.
(01:27:24):
So I thought his stuff was reallygood. I know that, you know,
I know his stuff was down abit, but you know, you're
not always going to have the vlow. You got to find a way
to pitch through, you know, lack of stuff if you don't have it.
That day he was I thought hewas really good. Did what did
I say after the first year? And I said, You've got to find
(01:27:45):
ways to win when you're not whenyou when you're not going your best,
And he is mentally tough and physicallyis really good. Would you what if
I weave in a gird up yourloin's question to Dana Brown? Would you
like that? Yes? You thinkI can weave it in. I know
you can't. I just don't thinkyou will. All right, Okay,
stay tuned. I mean, well, I take that back, because you
did. You did ask him aboutif anybody called him downtown Dana Brown.
(01:28:09):
I did so right last year.So I'll see if I can weave in.
I mean, if you guys gotyour loins girded up for what's about
to happen with these injuries, yeah, why not. I'm gonna try to
get it it's a good question,just another way. It's biblical, that's
all. It's respectful. Okay, you haven't girded yours up though, So
(01:28:30):
do you think Renelle Blanco, thatthere's an issue or just last night it
was one of those knights got seveninnings, dude, but he didn't have
his vlow. Are we supposed toall of a sudden somebody's vlo's down.
Question if there's something wrong with him? Or you can people have a tennessee
here because it's happened. Yeah,I think it's a tennessee here. But
I think anytime any picture's velocity isdown, you're gonna say what's going on?
It could be just one of thosenights. But I also think there's
(01:28:50):
a point to be made that he'scoming up on that innings Thresholder, we're
gonna see arm fatigue. We saidfor two months that that's going to rear
its head. We did not justwith him, right, When does arraghedty
hit in? When what does thatkick in for him? I mean it
seems like it has to write wemade that excuse for for when I say
excuse we That was talked about aboutChristian Javier when he was struggling. Oh,
(01:29:12):
he's at the inner I'm come aboutlast year, remember, and well
lo and behold he's out now andthe innings threshold. So where it gets
to the part it's like, Okay, they're a little tired. And here's
what's unfortunate with this situation. BlancoBrown Rag can't afford to be tired.
No, no, you can't.So how do you protect that? That's
going to be interesting? Yeah, that is, which means Bullpen may have
(01:29:33):
to get more work. It's gonnagonna be something a monitor for sure.
And it could have been just oneof those those nights for Blanco and he's
still grinding through and he got hisninth winn of the season, and yet
he's still not an all star.Freaking unbelievable. All right, you ready,
you ready to do this? Yeah? We we're talking to McCartney and
Collins. Yes, okay, andwith that great song coming back, so
(01:29:58):
I would like you going to breakthe girl up your loins? Okay,
you guys, wonder where I comeup with this? I do all the
time. I'm just gonna be ableto grab that you know, that bubble
you see in cartoons where somebody's thinkingand it shows I got the bubbles all
over me and I just pulled.I just yank it. You gotta yank
(01:30:20):
Okay, you do. You gottto yank it out of the sea the
bubble. You got to yank thisphrase inside the bubble. Dude. Don't
let you don't you know, don'tlet your mind race on you. Just
grab it and throw it in there. Let's go pulls more. Paul McCartney.

home and listen to that. No, I will not. Yeah, you
(01:32:54):
promise you see why do Let's seewhy Chris Young? There you go.
He's got some good stuff, butthat one not it. Well you aren't
you allowed, though, are we? We cheese up a little bit here?
Yeah, I know you've played uh, what's that wine song that Blake
Shelton or the Neon Light at theEnd of a Tunnel. You've played that
(01:33:14):
on we've played here. Yeah,so Chris Young blows both of those away.
No, stop it san Gria isbetter than that cut gets your ass
out of this studio. It isBlake Shelton's got more cheat. Blake Shelton
can turn a TV commercial into adog on song. Now that's a talent.
But I mean san Gria, thatsong is better than voices. What
(01:33:35):
about Austin you can go that's agood one. Well, what do you
want to get your start crying?Because this leave me a voicemail because I'm
thinking about you all the time, and then you're leave it a voice about
that song. You probably cry toit due I was going through a breakup
(01:34:01):
in college. Hey, I wantyou guys to know that I quit.
Thank you for everything I want backfor the last six or seven years.
I want to. I want to. I want to thank the Academy,
uh, producer, Uh, triplethank you Ryan, though, I want
to thank you to Brian. It'sbeen a good run until today. I
(01:34:23):
uh to the listeners and Carlos, the support system. You're interrupting my speech.
My going away spet's bigger. Ihopefully they'll be a retirement party.
Eddie. If you're listening, Uh, you can try to talk me out
of it. Brian, if you'relistening, try to talk me out of
It's not going to work, andtell you take a baseball bat like Robert
(01:34:45):
de Niro did the Good Fellas hitright over the head to knock that dog
On song out of his mouth. He cried listening to Austin from break was
going, I just want to cryto my speech. Oh man, but
(01:35:06):
I do want to thank you guys. Been a hell of a round.
You welcome, man, I appreciateit. And when they talked to me
three or four years Sean, whywhy'd you leave? Why did you leave
the morning show? I thought youloved it. Well, Brian cried to
a voicemail. Because Austin, ifthis is you, I steal love you.
That's how I first came out.I thought he was talking about the
(01:35:28):
city. It's not talking about ship. But she fell back in love with
him. Oh he's so sweet forleaving. Yeah, yeah, he leaves
for Hey, if you're calling Blake, you know. But by the way,
it's I'm still Austin. She comes. Yeah. So it gave me
hope. Dude, right when yousaid you're not gonna believe, I said,
you cried tod, it gave me. Oh man, I was heartbroken.
(01:35:50):
What a sensitive bitch. All right, I'm back. I'm a while
back, because you had the ballsto admit you cried in college and I
was, as we all say onthis, when do you take accountability for
(01:36:11):
not being young anymore? Okay?Oh the greatest cheese mold college man.
I cried to Blakeshell's off did I'mnot even all right? There you go?
Okay, who pulls more? PaulMcCartney or Phil Collins, two basic
white guys not from America. Yeah, both walking through Both probably like to
(01:36:34):
drink a pint. Yeah, probably, h McCartney probably. I mean people
would say probably the the more wellknown musician. No disrespect to Phil Conins,
because Phil cons could drum his assoff, and obviously he's had some
great cuts. Paul McCartney the Beatles, Yeah, what what do you got?
The tail the tape? I'm tryingto I'm going to say they walk
(01:36:57):
into a bar. McCartney pulls waymore. For the reason is he's more
recognizable. McCartney's one of those facesand even if you're twenty five or if
you're seventy, he walks in.You say, man, he looks like
a lot of different white guys. But let me think, where do I
know that that's McCartney. Oh,yeah, it's him. There's there's absolutely
no question. So Phil Collins hasgot to be like five to seven.
(01:37:20):
So Phil Collins is from southwest London. Okay, uh, did you say
how tall is he? I'm gonnago five to seven. Let's see,
and I'm gonna say McCartney think McCartney'scloser to got him by two or three
inches. They they got Phil Collinslistened at five to six. Okay,
so he's the height of Hose Altuve. I'm gonna say McCartney's five ten five
(01:37:44):
nine, little taller. He feelslike he's a little more sinewing. Oh,
Paul McCartney listened at five eleven. There you go, ah right,
well that that doesn't And so McCartneyalone, Collins would be the underrated guy.
They say, who's that guy withCollins? I mean with McCartney Cartney,
who's that guy over there at thepub with McCartney and forget and in
London? Let's bring him over hereand they walk into the bottled blonde.
(01:38:06):
Okay, okay, I'm going it'sgot to be McCartney. Is I think
there's some that wouldn't that aren't musicians. It would have no idea what who
Phil Collins is? What he lookslike. No, McCartney's just out there,
not I'm the musician. But whopulls more? And they're sitting there,
they can both flash the American expressedblack card at the table. I'm
sure so Finn and movie and getyour ten care of diamond ring. But
(01:38:29):
did they get Phil Collins a boosterchair to play the drums? Probably?
No. You know you know howyou do like with the roll when you
roll, when you have the barstooland you can roll it, it starts
to gain height. I think that'sprobably with Phil Collins so he can reach
the high hat five six. Yeah, it's got to be McCartney. I'm
not saying you just to poo pull. You walk in there and say,
okay, got to pull one ofthem. I think it's McCartney, just
(01:38:51):
just on on facial recognition and thenwhen they say, oh, that's pill
Paul McCartney from the Wings for thefor some No, that's Paul McCartney of
the Beatles, Okay, okay thatguy ye, so yeah, No,
it's McCartney's more unanimous. Who's betterlooking in your mind? I mean,
I know you're a good judge ofdudes when they when you think who's good
(01:39:13):
looking Phil Collins? Right now?Collins now and McCartney now hasn't hasn't Phil
Collins? Doesn't he have this?Got some health issues going on right now?
I'm not here. We go here, we bring it go man,
you know how we get into it. We're laughing and all of a sudden
he has to put up with you. You cantize Collins because he's got health
issues. Phil Collins kind of lookslike Andre Agassy a little bit. So
(01:39:35):
the hair, yeah, exactly, the hair is about going right. Yeah,
so you just how did you slidein? Let's see how did you
slide in? Oh, we're goingin. Who's pulls more? Who looks
better? You go, well,Colin's got some health issues, Okay,
we understand that. God bless him. This is issues. I don't I
think I think Phil Collins might looka little bit better. Paul McCartney kind
(01:39:56):
of Well, when you look atMcCartney, do you ever say the long
face? Yeah? I mean heyeah, I don't know. He kind
of You could dress him up andhe could look like, uh, a
woman like what's her name? Who'sthe great Meryl Streep? Yeah, put
a wig on him. But he'sMeryl Streep and he's singing in Dog on
Great Movies, and she's winning,he's winning Oscars as the best Actress.
(01:40:20):
What's Bruce Jenner's name now, CaitlynCaitlyn. He kind of kind of has
some Kaitlyn Jenner in him. I'mgonna go more Meryl Streep. I think
a good makeup artist could make, could make Paul McCartney have three Oscars.
He's because he's got some Meryl Streepin him. Right, he also has
a little he didn't sound right. He's got Kaitlyn Jenner in him. Okay,
(01:40:44):
Well, he's still a remember ofthe Beatles. He pulls more,
he wins, he wins, heremember the Beatles. And everybody's standing there,
even if you're twenty you look atit. What do I know that?
Oh? He just do He's he'sthe lead for the Beatles. All
right. Here, Look it's doingon radio here. I want to say
lead. Obviously, there's there's Bruce, I mean Kaitlyn Jenner, there's Paul,
(01:41:06):
Caitlyn, Paul Caitlyn, Paul onemore time, Paul, Paul Caitlyn.
Oh no, that's Caitlyn. Yeah, but Meryl Streep. Uh,
if you want to go doppel danger, pull wigs and make upon him.
Paul McCartney's Meryl streept Marylton. Youwould know the difference. But who pulls
(01:41:27):
more? I gotta go McCartney overPhil Collins. He's Paul McCartney. Dude,
he does have some Meryl Street hedoes, dude, bass guitar.
I mean he's the guy, right, he's the guy you know John Lennon
is Lee but now but he's stillthe Beatles. He's you know, he's
George Harrison, he's Ringo Starr. He's Paul McCartney. He's winning that battle.
(01:41:48):
I guess yeah. I mean I'drather hear Genesis over Okay, who
are you? Who do you thinkis hotter? Who you pulling? If
you walk in there, you gottachoose one. Yeah, who Paul McCartney.
There you go, just marry himand divorce. Have been taking his
money. Let's go to break forthe Shawn Salisbury Show continued. Man,
(01:42:20):
you want to get him fired up? Astros missed the wild card? Get
him fired up? I uh,I think a lot of it has to
do with he Can you explain thisto me? A lot of this has
to do with this not being serious. Power goes out, does it automatically
(01:42:44):
mean that your that your cable andyour your internet are supposed to go out?
And phone service? Why does itfeel like that always happens? The
service in the city has been godawful over the last time. I know,
power goes out, your TV goesoff. That part I get.
Are they tied together? I don'tknow how how they are, but it
(01:43:09):
seems to be maybe it's a basicanswer and I don't know, but it
kills But like the other day,I'm at the business. The power go
out? When the when the powergoes out? And are they on generator?
I was on S O S witha satellite sending out an S O
(01:43:30):
S. That's a police great cut, yea led by who sting? There
you go? I was on SO S even yesterday. I got back
towards the woodlands and phone boom straightto S O S. Yeah. I'm
just I don't understand what are theytied together? I think so, I
don't know how they are. Idon't know. I guess you gotta be
(01:43:51):
somebody who's involved in all that. But another thing, you know what,
I think a lot of it hasto do with people are got a lot
going on in their life right now, trying to you know, work from
home, get the stuff going, get themselves back into you know, the
normal part of life. Yeah, sad thing is with the storms may not
be the last one we see.Roll. That's what's going to suck,
(01:44:13):
Sorr. We got to prepare sohopefully, you know, and yesterday had
to be brutal on somewhere it hits. And then that heat, the sweltering
heat, and those that don't haveair. I can get why some are
saying, you know what, Ithink calling into a show may uh now,
some want to but calling into ashow, like we heard something else
say thanks for the outlet the restof it. But some may not have
the ability to do it. SoI get right, I get seven seven
(01:44:35):
idy never to join got. Igot some callers calling UT's start with Ben
and then we'll get the wheelhouse.Ben, what's happening? Hey, what's
up? Guys? Hey? II heard you all a week or two
ago mentioning how bad the nickname Singywas. I don't know if y'all were
listening to the postgame show last night, but a spot in the interview was
like sing he's been great. No, he did not, did he really?
(01:44:58):
He did? The another reason whyI don't listen to post game shows,
he called him, singing, yougot singy? Calm? Are you?
Are you lying? Just a pistols? Are you? Gaslight? Has
been? No? First thing Ithought it was I need to tell Brian.
First thing is what Yeah, yeah, I can't singing singing and it's
(01:45:20):
even worse. It's the manager. All right, Ben, let me ask
you. Ben, you're a Nationalsfan? Correct? Obviously? Okay,
King Tuck Braggy, your air, your don singing? Who else? JP?
Three, chasmo uh Jake from rakeFarm. Who has the worst nickname?
(01:45:47):
That's hard, that's hard. Youget a little smallerness, he said,
Who has the best one? Sorry? Who has the best one?
Yeah? Probably fair enough. Ithink it's singing. That's that? That
that is absolutely the worst nickname wegot going. It's terrible. Interesting thing.
The interesting thing was he mentioned it, but then he quickly was like
(01:46:11):
singleton like as if he heard ashe heard it. Ben, how is
everything good? You good from fromthe hurricane? Everything go with you in
your family? Yes, forget, thank you good man. We appreciate the
call. Ben. Thanks maybe somethingI wonder sing You'll be in the lineup
tonight. Thanks. Then, eveneven Joe A. Spotted knows that the
name Singing is awful. That's terrible, dude. You just went down a
(01:46:35):
litany of nicknames, and I'm likecringing every time all of them. But
he goes everywhere. I'm listening tohuh king tuck. You know, it
doesn't wear its crowned the dugout. What did they say with he? Homer's
the good when it's a home runto his crowd or to his oh,
to the the court, King's court, King in his court. But it's
(01:46:59):
like even watching Red Sox game, they oh, dude, you know what,
they can't call Devers Devs Rafi. They call him Raffi raf So it's
you know what, remember when DallasKaike was here, they called him kid
kaik oh I remember Kayke on themound? Kid yeah kid? And then
you got even now they call thewho's my right fielder? That's now yankee?
(01:47:20):
Uh uh? From Alsopher do DoogieDoogie even with the yank Oh man,
hey, what got a lot goingon? The the the battle between
Doogie and Ron Raffi. Oh yeah, yeah, God if you're just tuning
in. I know you don't knowtheir names, but we're going nickname all
the time, talking about a nickname. Hey, do they call you h
(01:47:42):
Town? Wheelhouse? You know it'snot it's not. Okay, no,
But if you walk into a bar, if you and your buddies walking to
watch a game and you're you andEric walked, Yeah you guys right your

(01:48:45):
came out to San Antonio because Iwas not going to experience the no electricity
for a few days. We haven'tbeen been without our ac for about forty
eight hours because we had a capacitorto go out, and I was like,
I'm not doing it twice in aweek. So we came out to
Sanato, my dog, my sonand I and we're actually hitded back right
now into Houston. And you know, there is something to be said about
(01:49:08):
what you guys do, what wedo. Anybody has any kind of medium
where we reach out to people likethey needed that the other night. They're
like, we needed this show, and I'm like, you know, sometimes
we take it for granted, butkeep up the good work. Yeah,
you never take this gig for granted. Brother, we got it too good.
Well, I got I got onecoming on the Astros. And then
(01:49:30):
I do have a question about Seanabout songs and possibly if he I'm pretty
sure there's I'm pretty sure there's apoint in your life where you cried over
so but we'll getack in a second. Yeah, but it wasn't Blake Shelton's
Austin. Okay, wait till youask me. Go ahead about your Astros
part So okay, so we keephearing this slow walk thing with Justin Berlander,
(01:49:56):
you know, playing catch every otherday. I mean, don't you
guys think it's inevitable that we thatwe have to get a starter and we
might have to push the on bookif they're really in a win now phase,
aren't I mean, are we gonnahave to make a deal for a
starter who is going to end upcosting us? Maybe maybe we cringe a
(01:50:17):
little bit, but and I don'tknow that Crochet is I guess Croset is
apost out of the picture. Butdon't you think the Astros need a top
flight starter at this point? AndI'll let you guys respond, Yeah,
early on, real quick, earlyand Brian Brian Canto we talked about early
in the show. To me,the biggest guarantee at the trade deadline,
(01:50:39):
and I don't know who the bodyis. They have to have at least
one starter and maybe another bullpen guywho knows because who knows about Verlander.
Mccullors is not pitching this year. You're waiting on Garcia, don't know about
innings start to build up for guyslike Blanco, Hunter, Brown's gonna get
to his situation, Arraghetty and hisinnings. So yeah, they're there is
(01:51:00):
a no brainer, and if you'regonna get a good one, it's gonna
sting a little bit here. Yes, I don't think there's any question.
I'll be a thousand times more shockedif they don't have more than just a
warm body come in. I dobelieve in the second half of the season,
after the All Star breaking, afterthe trade deadline, that there will
be minimum of one new body pitchingfor the Astros, and a guy that's
(01:51:21):
fairly significant. I don't know whothat. You know, it's not gonna
be a guy like Gosman. Idon't believe that if Toronto decided to trade.
But do I believe it's gonna besomebody that can help. Absolutely,
And I don't think I think it'sa no brainer, Brian, don't you
It's it's a must. Yeah,yes, no, yeah, you know.
I'm thinking. I'm thinking if youget Eric Fenny, maybe you get
(01:51:42):
Mike Mike Cookpack from the from theWhite Sox, you can do that possibly.
I mean, hell, if youcould get Krishan Kopak, that might
be a good package. But Son, now, did you ever like cry
over like maybe like some Michael Boltonsongs when a man loves a woman or
like yeah, no, I wasreally crying out two days ago when when
(01:52:03):
the water was filling up around myus, I was sitting on the dock
of the bay and I started breakingdown in tears. I'll tell you a
song that gives me. I'll tellyou a song that I get watered up
sometimes. And I'm not even aI don't love his music. I think
he's kind of cheesy too, butyeah, thanks a lot. Wheehouse fish
at you brother, Thank you isdrink a beer. I think about losing
(01:52:27):
friends, my dad when you gofishing, or you just share stories when
it that's the Luke Bryant cutting nice. Yeah, when it says you know
when there's something comes on and there'ssongs that remind me of my dad or
my mom that still like when you'redriving along by yourself or I'll tell you
another one. It doesn't give metears, but it gets me in my
getting a lot of deep thought isthe one from Tracy Lawrence, Tim McGraw
and Kenny Chesney friends fine, likedamn right, yeah, because I'll tell
(01:52:50):
you what if you hit rock bottomwatch how many ninety seven percent of them
will scatter and a bunch and ahandful will hang around. And you know
who those guys are. Those areyour people. So yeah, when it
comes on, I'm sitting there. And then when he did the line when
he says, when he says, when Brian comes on and talks about so
long my friend, you know thatverse? Yeah, it does. Now
(01:53:12):
I'm gonna I'll stand up to youthis. I was kidding Brian about crying
on the Austin song from Blake Shelton. There'll be a movie. I'll cry
in a movie. I have zeroissue, especially if you kill a dog
or a child's involved. Yes,there is no doubt. There's certain movies
that I'll sit in a movie theaterand my eyes are water up. There's
no question. And I don't havea problem. I don't hide it.
(01:53:33):
I don't care. It's just theBlake Shelton song Austin wasn't it okay?
But you know, hey, Brian, we all have those things, and
for Brian it was so there yougo, so Wheelhouse. Yes, and
I'm not afraid to admit I haveno problem being emotional. I don't.
It's not the tough guy thing. There's certain things that kick in for my
family, or my parts, ora song or a buddy that I used
(01:53:56):
to hang with. It's now nolonger alive. It was our cut laughing
and joking that we you know,in the summertime. There's no doubt those
those songs kicking out, no doubtthe emotion kicks in. We'll keep it
going on the phone line seven seven, hoey, Jeff Trey, We'll get
you guys next. On Sports Talkseven ninety, The Jean Salisbury Show continues.
Absolutely no, let's talk to Jeff. Jeff. What's happening, Hey,
(01:54:21):
guys, great show. First ofall, I want to thank you
guys for the show today. Ilive over in Baytown, and I think
I speak for a lot of peoplein the area. Man, just y'all
lifting everybody up today, giving usall a little laugh. I think we
all needed it. I think you'vebeen able to keep a lot of people
from driving off the bridge. Thankyou, Jeff. It's very kind.
(01:54:41):
I appreciate that. We'll take thatcome from I do. And I heard
y'all talking about my colors earlier.I'm real I'm done. Like everybody else,
I don't I honestly don't think he'sever going to pitch again. I
really really don't, and I'll callback next year if he does. But
I think he ought to be moreconcerned about his HTV commercial contract than trying
(01:55:02):
to to play for the Astros.I'm so tired of seeing him. And
I know y'all remember the commercial afterhe got that surgery where he lifted bragming
up over his shoulder and everything, and and he's m seeing the Hall of
Houston, Hall of Fame, Gala. I'm just done with him, and
I just I think he's done well. Jeff, not only thank you for
(01:55:24):
the comment, and both of usbelieve that there's no way he's pitching at
one throwing one ball off the moundfor the Astros this year. I don't
know about the future. I'm notsure he's going to pitch again for the
Astros. I hope he pitches, you know, I think we all root
for a success, but uh,it's it's it's it's it's starting to labor
I think on fans as well, and I'm sure you know it's laborious for
(01:55:45):
him too, but he's he's notpitching this year for the Astros. That's
my opinion, Brian. I thinkyou echoed the same thing. I don't.
I don't think there's any doubt you'regoing to see him. That's a
that's a good point, and Iunderstand your frustration, Jeff, sure do.
But we man, y'all have agreat show. And I like to
just thank you for everything y'all do, and I'll keep listening. Appreciate it.
Thank you, thank you. Let'stalk to Trey before it gets to
(01:56:08):
the top of the hour. Trey, what's going on? Hey, good
morning guys. Yeah, pretty mucheverbody is stealing my thunder. I just
wanted to call in. I'm anexterminator down here in League City. I'm
on day three without power, slepton my patio last night, but y'all,
y'all are keeping my routine going, and that's really important for a lot
of people these days. So Ijust I wanted to say thank you for
that and let everybody down here knowit's just all about fifty to seventy hour
(01:56:31):
truck station and talk at Target parkinglot and Dickinson, So hopefully they're getting
out here and going to be helpingpeople pretty soon. Trey, great report,
and that's you know what, you'resitting here without and sleeping on your
patio to get some respite from theheat. I don't know if we can
get better compliments than people telling usthat they're getting a little respite from it,
and we don't take that for granted. So thank you, man.
(01:56:51):
I hope it gets better for youright away. And if we can at
least give you a little bit ofa laugh. We'll try to do four
hours and we'll be back out oftomorrow for you. So hopefully you'll have
power and a nice hot shower bythen. Yeah, I hope I'll have
some some of some power and somework. But uh yeah. And one
other thing I was talking about songsto make you cry, there's one.
It's not really my my normal genre, but it's a song called, uh,
(01:57:14):
I'll follow you into the Dark.I almost lost my wife a few
years ago, and it's about losingsomebody or your other halves. If you
ever want to want, if youever want a song that'll little tear you
up. But it's all she hasactually good message. Now, Tray,
is your wife okay? Now?Healthy? She Yeah, she's okay,
Yeah, she's fine. It wasa it was the doctor mess something up.
They thought she just had an ovaryinsist but it turned out to you
(01:57:36):
know, very intortion and she wassix hours away from sexist. Oh yeah,
she she had to make the call. They were telling her just to
wait it out, but she couldn'teven stand up. So she made the
right call. And they said ifshe wouldn't have made the call to go
in, she would have been Shelived with a lost We're gonna find now.
Women usually have better intuition when itcomes to the most stuff than we
do. So good for her andgrateful that you guys are healthy and get
(01:57:58):
back to work. My man,I know what you're on that and hopefully
it'll cool down for you as well. Thanks so much for the call.
We appreciate you appreciate it, right. Yeah. I hope everybody else is
getting through these tough times here inthe city of Houston. I know it's
hot out power is getting restored slowly, but surely everybody's got a song.
Yeah, it hits them deep,at least one. I mean you do
too. It's look, I wasyoung and dumb and I was in college.
(01:58:25):
Okay, look at yourstration. No, but we all we do.
We all have that cut. Nomatter where you are and when you're driving
hits you deep dog, actually knowwhat we lose somebody or close to losing
somebody that your best friend and yourpartner for life, Like Jeff called in,
that's got to be tough, man, She's okay as we talk about
(01:58:47):
this. Uh, these songs Don'tlet the Sun Go Down on Me Elton
John and George Michael. That versionspecifically gets me my feels because it was
one of my mother's favorite songs. That version though, with those two guys,
when it's a mom or a dad'ssong or a sibling, you know,
whatever it is, you always remember. One of the greatest things my
oldest boy. I mean he's donea lot of great things. My son
(01:59:08):
for a birthday one year, Yeah, put together a playlist of his and
I songs that when we drive, like we take a road trip, huh,
that we always listen to. Heremember them, put a playlist together
for it. Now that's a gift. Yeah, that is a gift because
now anytime I hear any of them, it's like that was him and I.
Yeah, he remembers them. Thatwas awesome for me. Let's get
into the nine o'clock hour. Isee a lot of Lance mccullor's junior conversation
(01:59:29):
going on right now on Twitter,a lot of back and forth from Astros
fans, one saying you can't hateLance mccolors. You can't be frustrated,
Others saying, yes you can.Where do we stand on the situation as
Lance mculor suffered a setback? That'snext on Sports Talk seven ninety Hey,

help your stay, help your stayingsafe during all this? Man, what's
on your mind? Oh? Man? Just happy to get fired back all
(02:02:29):
my brother? Uh yeah, manuh? Sean, are you talking about
those those those sad songs, thosesad moments. I'm glad to the previous
called his wife made it through.Of course, you know my wife didn't
make it for views. It's abouton ten years, Sean. You know
it seems like time just flies.Bike. I can't believe, Biscuit.
You know what's crazy? Do yourealize that in six years. Did the
(02:02:54):
eighties will be fifty years away?Yeah? Yeah then, And obviously we've
talked about this and sorry about yourwife, and it is time flives a
decade already. Man, I feellike you and I've been having this conversation
for about five or six of them, you know what I mean. Yeah,
it's been crazy, crazy, It'scrazy. Man. The thought the
song that comes to my mind manand the movie is it's cooly high and
(02:03:17):
it's so hard to say, goodbodyyesterday. That's that's a dear for there.
Oooh boy, that'll get you.You ain't lying, man, Yeah,
gosh. Getting the sports man uhshout them and reading a lot of
articles and seeing a lot of differentthings, and the thing that come to
mind is Nick saving don't fall forthe rat poison And and he's talking about
(02:03:42):
all the accolades and when people startpatting you on the back and listening,
and I'm thinking about the Texans. You know, everybody now is on the
Texans bandwagon. Everybody's predicting them todo all these great things. And man,
don't fall for the rat poison.Man. You know what's interesting about
that biscuit? In what's your spoton about? That, and and I
know you're not saying they're not gonnabe good. They just can't listen to
(02:04:05):
what we're saying about how good theyare. Right. They got to buy
you know, they gotta. Theygot to approach the season like they were
a three win team. And Iwith confidence knowing that that's there, and
also knowing with a few injuries anda few slip ups, your ass is
back to five wins. Okay, they are a quarterback ankle away from being
(02:04:27):
a sub five hundred team or wellwith seventeen games. You get my point,
And I know your point. Iam one hundred percent with you,
and I know this, and Ibelieve Demiko and this group will keep them
folks, I do, I think, But I think it'll be tougher to
get the ten wins this year fora better team, because things change,
man, and win in at thesecond time. To stay away from fat
(02:04:49):
cat and reading what everybody's saying goodabout you. It's easy to get pissed
when they're talking poorly about you. It's also easy to get dialed into man,
we're pretty friggin good. I thinkthey've got the leadership to do that
to fight it off. But Biscuit, I know what you're saying. It
lingers, and you're only a playeror two, a key position or two
(02:05:10):
and a few bad decisions away ona missed field goal, a tipped ball
that you caught last year that youdon't this year, and instead of being
ten win team, to be ina seven win team. But you're also
great play in staying focused to beinga twelve win team. So you all
right, man, don't fall forit, because when you fall for it'll,
it'll will tear your gut away, man quickly. I've seen it happen
(02:05:30):
on times I've been on. Ithink you said it too, Sean,
And particularly with this generation, itjust seemed like they can't handle the zo
times. Well, you know whatI mean. You know what I mean.
We talk about all I see likewhen they fly and n that's when
they slip up. Yep. Ifeel like sometimes this generation they do better
(02:05:51):
with the losses, you know,so, Biscuit, And I'm far more
concerned Nowaday, And I'm not sayingthat this does not an umbrella state for
every twenty five year old. Iam far more concerned with that era.
You're talking about generation handling success asmuch as they do failure because I think
failure drives us and pisses us off, and you start to fear about your
(02:06:13):
job. And in sports, Ithink success makes I think success at times,
if you don't fight it hard, breeds complacency and you start to believe
that some guy's opinion in Pittsburgh,Yeah, they think we're good or in
pair land or in sugarland or infullshure. We don't have to play.
We just get to talk about it. So you are right, and I've
(02:06:35):
said it forever. My concern ishow do you handle success, not just
failure? And it's and I actuallythink success is tougher to handle for young
people who may have not dealt withfailure or may have not dealt with this
kind of urgent success like the Texanshad in seven wins in a year.
That's urgent success. Man, that'sa quantum leap. I'm with you,
(02:06:58):
yes, sir, Well like yousay, man, and I'm and you
know I'm a cowboy fan. ButI got a lot of guys on the
Texas and I've worked with Petrie's dadand uh too Tall we call him too
Tall Hunter playing my youth football league, and little Steve his dad and his
mom and go to my church, right, I mean Steve Stephen film or
(02:07:19):
whatever. Oh yeah, so yeah, I'm pulling for him this year.
Oh I know you are. That'swhen it's when it's personal like that,
you root for the families and forgreat success. But I got news for
you. Just three of them even'tgonna it's gonna they're gonna take a lot
more than three times about you know, three times twenty. That's what they're
gonna need to do the things thatthey have in mind. But they got
a guard against believing all the goodstuff we're saying and feed off it without
(02:07:43):
believing in it and getting complacent. It's a great point, brother, And
thanks for the thought on the song. In ten years, man, it's
it's an anniversary you probably hate toremember, but all those good times you
and your your your you know, your your uh former wife and uh,
I'm sure you have a lot ofthose to celebrate too, my man.
So hang in there. We appreciateyou as always. Thank your biscuit.
(02:08:07):
I don't guess the part, no, he probably, but he I mean,
hell, I've been on the shownow, what's six seven years now?
And a biscuit and I've been talkingabout that for years, and I
can't believe that he just brought up. You know, his wife didn't make
it. We're talking ten years already, and I've been talking to Biscuit for
about six of them, and Ican't believe he just mentioned ten years.
So but I'm sure the phenomenal memorieswhen you stay happy, anniversary it's not
(02:08:31):
a it's it's weird because it's reallynot happy, but you try to feed
off those happy memories that like whenyour dad, you know, the anniversary
of your father's like, feed offall the good stuff. There's nothing happy
about it except when you dive intothe memories. But there are songs that
will get you in your feels.Man. Everybody has one. Yeah,
that's for sure. It's get tobrainer real quick before we get to break.
Brandon, good morning, good morning, Hi you guys, mining John.
(02:08:56):
How are you doing so? I'mdoing great. Good morning, sir,
I'm doing wonderful. Thanks. Ihope you are as well well me
where I talked to the astros.Did you guys get power or did Houston
get powered back yet? I gotit back yesterday after about twenty five hours.
But there's friends of mine and peoplewe know that are still without it.
(02:09:16):
Uh, still one point three millionpeople without power as of this morning.
Brandon. Ye, okay, yousaid about win's my powers, Brian.
Yeah, he had a Yeah,he had a setback. We don't
know if he'll be able to comeback. Well I think we do know,
(02:09:37):
but well, yeah, at leastthis year. But I get what
you're saying. Okay, Now,was he gonna get in from the Astros
yesterday? I watched it. Yeah, it was Josh Hater got the got
to save Brandon big By Bregman hadthree RBI so hopefully they can do it
again today. Okay, Who's who'spitching today about? Yeah? Against?
(02:10:03):
Who's fetching for? Brian? Hoeingfor the Marlins? Okay, can y'all
do me if? Are y'all doingcountry today? Yep? You have to
talk to Triple on any request.Brandon. We got to get going.
Okay, thanks for calling. Ithink it's Holing right, Yeah, yeah,
(02:10:26):

I'm love you man, two onetwo five seven ninety Steve, good
(02:11:58):
morning, Hey, good morning guys. You know I'm a little lady.
I was you guys were talking aboutMike Gundy and he had his uh running
back there. I think that setof very bad presidents for for him in
the light that you know what happensif the third string offensive lineman uh does
the exact same thing. Suspended, suspended, sorry, suspended exactly exactly.
(02:12:24):
So I think it's a bad presidentbecause you know, okay, well,
he's a superstar. Yeah, hecan pay for his his legal bills and
everything. But you stood up forhim and you backed him. But with
me, you're you're you're gonna suspendme. I think it just puts a
bad a bad relationship on the playersthat because obviously he's not the first one
that has been caught drinking or hada d W I obviously not Steve.
(02:12:48):
Yeah, let me ask you aboutthat. Do you think that this is
more enabling or giving a guy asecond chance? Okaw, and we he
is the guy that just the rewardlast year, and I want to keep
him prevalent in our in our system. He's on our probably on our pass
(02:13:09):
out, our flyers on at eachgame. And I don't know, I
just think it's a bad idea.I didn't think it was something it's something
that Mike Gundy would do. Imean, obviously I like Mike Gundy a
lot, but I think it isis just not setting a very good president
for the rest of the people, rest of the team and the rest of
the players that might get into sometrouble, he better backed them one hundred
(02:13:33):
percent and not suspend them, becausethat's going to put a kind of a
damper on on the you know, the I think the relationship with the players
and the coach, Steve. Doesn'tthis make it to the point where if
every single guy that gets and youhope there's no more and you hope less
and learn and thank goodness, nobodygot hurt. Do you think this puts
it? Now? What if fourother players go out over the course of
twelve months and they come back itand they're a similar weight, and it's
(02:13:56):
point eight. And he did themath and doesn't he now isn't the can
of worms open where they all haveto be able to come back without a
suspension? Well, you're exactly right. What happens when it's a three hundred
pounds Lineman. I mean, Ithink his tolerance is going to be a
little a little bit easier than pointeight. Yep. But I just think,
(02:14:18):
like I said, I just thinkit's sets a bad president on the
whole team. But and then mynext thing is, you know, you
guys are talking about Lance mccollor. You know, there's got to be a
point. I know they just paidhim what three years ago, There's got
to be a point when you go, you know what, we have to
just let this go. I knowCrane probably doesn't want to let go of
another I think what one hundred andtwenty million dollars that he paid Lance and
(02:14:41):
he's just got rid of a brayyou So that's a big chunk. But
I mean, how long do youjust keep, you know, milking this?
And another thing is is you knowwhat if you're not playing State of
Hell out of the damn commercials mindthe hell's he's in is he isn't in
commercials. That's another thing. Imean, you don't seem, but you
seem on commercials and I'll just hangup and listen. Just wanted to be
(02:15:03):
I appreciate it, and well that'swhy part of the show we love.
We whether people agree or disagree withcertain comments we make or any of our
callers and Steve, I love thepassion and to the point. As far
as the commercials go, I guessit's when you get paid, you go
do it and be around the buddies. When it comes to I think,
I, well, let me putthis. I don't think you're alone Steve
(02:15:26):
in the thought is it time tocut bait. I don't think you're alone
there. I think that there's aI think there's I don't think there's a
lot of people sitting in the middleon lance with colors. I think there
are some brand I haven't paid attentionto Astros Twitter on this. I think
there's some say, hell no,he's injured. Well remember back five years
ago when he was pitching great forus. I get it. But I
(02:15:46):
also think that there's the other side. Is I think it's extreme both ways
I don't think there's a lot ofmiddle ground on this. I think some
are ready to move on and someare like, oh, let's cut him
some slack because he's been in thatjust love Lance with Colors. I get
both sides. But there is goingto come a point and I think we're
almost there of when's the time tomove on for him or for them?
Yeah? Sometimes change venue is nota bad thing, right, And it
(02:16:09):
pains because you and I are bothmccullor's fans, right, But business wise,
you get to a point, say, at some point in time,
you're gonna have to count on somebodyelse or this is gonna or he's gonna
have to be counted on. Yeah, and right now this purgatory stuff,
too much of it. Yeah, last couple of years you have not been
(02:16:30):
able to count on Lance mccullors Junior. So and it sucks, it does
wise because some things you just can'tprevent. Yeah, there's no question about
it. All Right, let's welcomein Astro's general manager Dana Brown of the
show next right here on Sports Talkseven. I mean, also, let's
also talk to my talk to youabout my good friends over at Evoke Roofing

(02:18:24):
visit at nine thirty, and wewelcome him in Dana. Hope everything's okay
with your family and this flooding andthis hurricane. I hope everybody's safe and
well. Let me ask you,you guys doing okay power wise and everything
else. Yeah, we don't haveany power, but I have a generator,
but there's no cable or internet. So my wife's driving me crazy.
(02:18:46):
She'd probably come out here as aguess and say you're driving her crazy too,
and that's the way it's supposed towork. There you go, but
man, I get it. Uh, hopefully it'll be reinstated or restill rein
you know, everything back to normalhere soon. But glad you guys are
safe. Big last night, comefrom behind, which leads me to this
data. You know, the haterthe night before, the home run teams,
other teams getting paid to what Ilove. Unlike maybe early in the
(02:19:09):
season, you talk about grit allyear long. Is this hasn't festered a
loss like that maybe early on twoor three in a row, but it
hasn't festered. You bounce right backand all of a sudden, boom,
Bregman gets his seventh inning home run. Guys come up, Big Blanco starts
off slow and then kicks ass therest of the day, gives you seven
innings. That's got to be impressivefor you and your team. Yeah.
(02:19:31):
I mean, as as you mentioned, I've talked about it before that the
grit that this team has is huge. And you know part of that grit
is confidence. You know, theseguys know that they're good. They know
that you know, we've been goodfor years, and so you know,
these guys don't panic. They havethe heart, meat and the stomach for
this stuff, and so there's nopanic and the guys will know that at
(02:19:54):
some point things will turn around. So you go this night. No,
not that they're confident. You know, the big hit there, big hit
there, shut down any hair, shut down any there. You know,
we're back on top. And thenHater poses it out after getting up a
home run on the door. Imean, look, these guys understand it,
they get it, and they knowthe ultimate goal is to win the
(02:20:16):
division, get back deep into thepostseason and try to get to the World
Series. Dan, I want totalk about Renelle Blanco first off, for
his mental toughness. This guy's thirtyand overcoming what he's coming and pitching lights
out. Have you spoken to him, because I know, when we're homers
at home, we think, youknow what, the guy got snubbed for
an All Star Game. People getsnubbed every year, but in truth,
(02:20:39):
this was a legitimate mistake by thosewho vote. The guy deserved it.
Have you had a conversation with himabout his being left off the All Star
team? Yeah? I tell Blanco, look miss state of course to the
interpreters, you know, state thestate of course. You know what you'll
get your you'll you'll get your promiseLand. You know, the promised Land
is let's let's get deep into thepostseason. Let's pitch a huge game in
(02:21:03):
the postseason, and you know what, you're gonna let your light shine.
Uh. You know, ultimately, you know, I felt like, you
know, he was deserving and youknow, maybe there's still an opportunity as
it could be a reserve or somethinglike that. But ultimately, in a
great year that he put up,I told him when I first, you
(02:21:24):
know, said hey, I wantto make your starter. And I told
him, I said, look, this is going to be good for your
career. It's going to change yourcareer if you could pull it off.
And sure enough, man, thingsare looking good for Renew Blanco, and
Renew Blanco deserves it. So yep, I'm excited about what he's doing for
this club and hold this holding thisrotation together. Yeah, and you know
what, Dana Dana Brown astros GMfor his weekly nine thirty visit here,
(02:21:46):
joins us as he does every weekon Sports Talk seven ninety. I know
there's a obviously you want it forthe guy because it's been a phenomenal season
and what he's what he's done andthen he gets some rest. So that's
not a bad thing. So whenyou spoke to him, well, what
was his respect? Sponds? Ishe hurt or is he okay? Yeah?
I mean I think ultimately he's disappointed, to say the least. But
(02:22:11):
you know, at the end ofthe day, I think he understands that
he put off, he put forthan effort, you know that was worthy,
and it's it's out of his hands. If somebody at you're outside of
the Astros or any of us,or I ask you or say to you,
I believe Renelle Blanco maybe the MVPof the team, and I know
(02:22:31):
there's a lot of good ones.Could I make the argument that he is,
well, I would say we havea couple of guys that are worthy
of MVP. Uh. You know, heck, you know what Alvarez has
done this year holding it down, you know, because he's been one consistent,
you know, two vas been consistent. You know, Blanco has been
really consistent. I mean, Ithink either one of those guys could be
(02:22:52):
m VP. But it would notshock me if you know, the fan
base voted for him to be MVP, the players voted for him to be
the MVP would not shock me,right, you know, he's having that
kind of a year, you know, when you can anchor a rotation that
injury written and and just be thestabilizer, you know, and to have
(02:23:13):
a two five earned run average afterall these games and you know, keep
putting us in the win column, giving us opportunities to win games. Man,
that is valuable. Man, that'svaluable stuff to a major league team.
And then the grind of the seasonand for you to do it week
in and week out, start inand start out, I mean, that's
that's big. I think the players, the players realize it, and I
(02:23:35):
think the players really felt like heshould have been an All Star too,
So that I think you know ourplayers, you know, and they know
what Royal Blanc is doing. Theseguys have been around, they know how
special he's been for Yeah, thedouble down of all the injuries and he's
had to give you innings and giveyou quality innings and quality starts, which
he has. Which leads me tothis. Did you know in your mind,
just from watching him and talking tohim that he was this mentally tough?
(02:24:01):
Yeah? I think you know whenyou grew up in the Dominican man.
It's there's it's a different life.You know. These guys have to
grind and grit. They have togo through a lot. I don't know
if you've ever been to the country, but you know, these guys are
warriors. Many they fight through it. They love baseball, you know,
and this is about the Baseball isan opportunity to you know, to get
out and make some money. Andthese guys grind through a lot, you
(02:24:24):
know, in their careers. Justjust to go to show that he was
signed at twenty two years old,he never gave up on his dream.
You know, most kids were like, you know, it's hard to get
it, you know, get toget signed as a twenty two year old
in the US much less you know, twenty two year old than the Dominican
Republic. And this guy's been grindinghis you know, his whole baseball career.
(02:24:46):
I'm not surprised at the success thathe's having because he's got the grit
and uh, you know, I'mjust excited that he's he's putting up a
pretty good year for us and andit's time of need no doubt about it.
You're down to two games out. What a run you set these goals
for your team, and we arefive games away from the All Star Break,
two out and over five hundred andplaying their best baseball of the year
(02:25:09):
and most consistent baseball. Okay,Andrew ball assistant GM it was was with
Robert Ford in an interview over theweekend, and he mentioned a six man
rotation. All right, with theseinjuries right as we sit today, Dana
over the neck before the trade deadline. We'll get to that later. How
do you get to a six manrotation considering what you're facing right now?
No Verlander, we know the injurystuff. How do you get to six
(02:25:33):
men right now? Yeah? Imean the only way we'll get to six
man is if we stretch out Duban, you know, and then we get
Bloss back on Thursday. You know, then we could probably go to a
six man to get these guys abreather, or we call up you know,
blue Ball or Lour or something likethat. But you know, we
have to talk through those things becausewe do have to get these guys some
(02:25:56):
rests. I mean, if youimagine Blanco has been grinding out is an
untrieded territory in terms of Major Leagueinnings, and so you know, we
we do have to do something toget these guys a breather because we got
to get all the way through youknow, we got to get all the
way through September, you know, before we can get to October postseason.
So it's going to be a grindand you know we're gonna have to think
(02:26:18):
and get creative and think of waysthat you know, we're gonna have to
be able to get through this thing. Now, let me just add to
it, because you're the GM.You faced a lot this year. It's
crazy. You never know what theseason is going to bring. Now you're
thinking Blanco and innings, Arraghetty andinnings, the threshold of how much they
can handle and you can't afford anymore injuries. Is there any concern that
(02:26:39):
injuries and you don't want to taxyour bullpen? Are you concerned that innings
for these pitchers who have not seentheir threshold are starting to add up and
can't give you what they've given youso far? No, I mean,
Blanco's given us the innings in theminor leagues before, but it's just season
untried territories in the major leagues.Yep, you know, Arragetty I think,
(02:27:01):
you know, he loses a goose, I think he's gonna be fine.
We're just gonna have to give theseguys the rest that they need.
I don't think that the innings willpole up to the point where they won't
be able to go, but Ido think we have to monitor it and
give these guys a breather. Youknow, whether it's skip the start,
whether it's go to a six manrotation, we are going to have to
(02:27:22):
get creative and figure out those things. But you know, in terms of
just the pure health of these guys, these guys aren't leaking oil at all.
So if they were leaking oil andthe velos were way down or something
like that, I would be concerned. But the velos are still up,
you know, performances are still up, and so I think we just have
to be smart and give these guysto breathe it that they're going to need
(02:27:43):
to get through it. Dana Brownastros GM joins us for a few more
minutes for his weekly visit. Ashe does, We're always grateful for it
here on Sports Talk seven to ninetyshow on Salisbury show recent setback to Lance
mccullors, should we just look forwardand say we're not seeing him till twenty
twenty five. Well, you know, the setbacks are really difficult when you're
(02:28:03):
coming off these injuries, and soyou know, hopefully he can grind through
it. You know, it's gonnait's gonna take us some time before we
could really uh you know, getfigured out. But uh, you know,
hopefully we can. You know,we can figure this thing out and
he can get through it. ButI don't think it's a you know,
(02:28:24):
there's no damage to the arm oranything like that. So that's you know,
that's refreshing. It's just that he'sin the grind right now to get
back. And when you're coming back, sometimes you start to you know,
you start to stress the arm alittle bit when you just you know,
you start throwing and you start tryingto pick up the velocity. And I
think sometimes it's just it's normal.Sort. I liken it to the runner
(02:28:48):
who's running distance and he's breaking hislegs down and he gets a little tired,
and then now all of a suddenhe gets his second win. And
hopefully, you know, him goingthrough this, he'll he'll he'll get a
fight through it. But that's Ican win for a runner was this is
two years now, and I knowhow hard he works, and so do
you, and I know it sucks, Dana, I know it does.
But now I remember about a monthago, I said, are you counting
(02:29:11):
on Garcia and mccolors, And thenyou said, that's like getting those guys
back, like well at a tradedeadline, getting two quality pitchers, and
Garcia is still making progress. Areyou still counting on mccolors to pitch for
you in twenty twenty four. Well, mccullors could come back and be a
real good force out of the pin. That would be great, you know,
(02:29:33):
And so I'm still hopeful. Youknow, we have to let the
medical side play out, but there'snothing, you know, there's no damage
to the arm to the point wherewe don't feel like he's coming back.
So I'm still hopeful that he willcome back, and maybe we will get
him. We can get him asa reliever, and you know, he
could play a big part and pitchsome beginnings and some big games. As
(02:29:54):
far as Garcia, I think Garciais going to give us some starts,
yep, And you know that, you know, I think we're gonna you
know, we're gonna be finding thatarea and he's going to be exactly like
getting the trade. And we're alsoin the market for you know, potential
trade. You know, hopefully, you know, we could land a starter
in this trade market. I knowit's gonna go all the way down in
(02:30:15):
the wire. You know. Teamsare going to try to hang in there
and try to make it to thepostseason, and then they'll sell, probably
late the ones that are going tosell. So it's going to go down
to the wire, and we justhave to you know, continue to grind
through it like we've been doing allyear. As I mentioned earlier in the
year, this team is still goodenough to get to the postseason the way
(02:30:35):
it's constructed right now, you know, so I'm not really worried about that.
I would love for those guys tocome back from injury, just because
that gives us even a better chanceto get even deeper into the postseason.
Go ahead, I'm sorry, goahead and finish. Yeah, So that's
pretty much the case we're in.We're in the grind, all right.
(02:30:56):
With that, You mentioned these toget to the postseason, the all and
the trade deadline coming up. Howcan you how can you not be heavily
into going getting an arm. Howimportant they are and I know how I
portant they are to you. You'vementioned it, pitching, pitching, pitching,
I mean if I I mean,I don't know if it's a front
line guy because people aren't getting ridof there's a lot of teams still in
(02:31:18):
the playoffs. But how can you, not knowing the circumstances, go out
and make heavy bid for at leastone arm and it may be a bullpen
guy too, but a starter. How do you get through the trade deadline
without getting one? Dana, Yeah, we're gonna make every We're gonna we're
gonna try, you know, we'regonna put our best foot forward. You
know, we're gonna, you know, do whatever we have to do to
(02:31:39):
try to get it. You know, it's it's you know, you need
two sides to play, right. We're willing. We got to get another
willing candidate and it's gonna make sensefor the organization and then, uh,
you know, and if not,you know, we're gonna have to rely
on guys like blue Ball. Who'sthe triple A thrown the ball? Well?
Uh and and this organizations relied onyoung players for a long time.
(02:32:03):
And been successful relying on young players, and so you know some most of
the time you would love to havethat veteran, but if it's if the
veteran is not available, we willask one of these young kids to step
it up. And this organization hasbeen very, very successful at getting young
players to turn the corner. Soall in all, this is a team
(02:32:26):
that's built for the postseason. I'vebeen saying it all year. I think
we're good enough to compete with whatwe have currently. I think if we
can add to it, it's justgonna really you know, sertify. Uh,
you know, getting even deeper intothe postseason, we're in the grinds.
We're looking at it every day. We're having discussions every day. I'm
(02:32:48):
I'm constantly in contact with other generalmanagers, and so if we can get
a piece dad to this team,we will do it. You're a World
Series guy, though, and sois everybody here. And you know this.
You've been at an organanization that knowsWorld Series before you got here in
Atlanta and here, so just notthe postseason. What has to be done
or give me a trade or somethingthat's tangible that has to be done for
(02:33:11):
you guys to be a World Seriesteam in twenty twenty four. Yeah,
I think to be a World Seriesteam. Uh, it starts off.
I feel like winning the division. And then when you win the division,
you you know, your starters haveto get deep in two games during the
postseason, and your relief has tobe really good. You've got to get
(02:33:33):
the timely hitting. I mean, that's a recipe for winning a World Series.
You know, you know, wewould love to go out and get
it, you know, make atrade, but you do realize that,
you know, just because you makethat trade it looks good on paper,
that guy still have to come inhere and perform, no doubt. So
there's been trades made. There's beenguys that have been acquired that are supposed
(02:33:54):
to be number three type starters. They get with the organization and it doesn't
happen. There's no uh, youknow, magic bullet for this. You
know, this is the you getto the World Series by having quality starts,
good bullpen, and good timely hitting. That's how you get to the
World Series. We're going to doeverything we can to put that put ourselves
(02:34:15):
into that position. And you know, once we do that, you know
the players will step up and youknow, good things will happen. You
know, I would say, Iwould say, hanging there with us.
The team is moving in the rightdirection. Uh, we're you know,
we're ahead of where I thought wewould be. And so you know,
ultimately if we keep grinding through it. Right now, the goal is,
(02:34:35):
let's let's try to take over firstplace before this first half in. Yeah,
we can do that. That's abig step. And then we can
get the pitching that we need toturn the corner. Uh, that would
be great as well, too.Good Two things before I let you go.
Will it sting for you to getthe pitcher you want? Will it
sting well for fans to lose somebodyears? Will it have to sting a
(02:34:58):
little bit to get the guy youwant for your current organization? Yeah,
I mean we always say you gotto give up something to get something.
You know, these teams are smart. These teams are not you know,
uh in the business of losing goodplayers, uh and in acquiring bad prospects.
So they're gonna do what they canto acquire one of your better prospects,
(02:35:18):
as just as we're going to doa weekend to acquire one of their
better starters, relievers or position players. So ultimately, you're gonna have to
give up something in order to getsomething. We realize that, you know,
you're not gonna be able to trickanybody into getting you a big time
player. That just doesn't happen. And so I would say, yes,
(02:35:39):
you're gonna have to give up somethingin order to get something. We just
don't want to mortgage to farm andwe wanted to make sense for our organization
and and not mortgage the future,uh, you know, just for temporary
success in the present. I'm gonnalet you go on this talk me off
this ledge. I know what atough guy you are, and I've here
thinking I know how good and toughKyle Tucker is. A reevaluation of this.
(02:36:03):
Is this seriously just a bone bruise? This is not there's no break
or crack or chip or fracture. And this is the longest bone bruise I
can ever remember, And he's tough. Is there something deeper to that,
to that that's taken longer than justthreshold of pain? No, I just
think you know, when you whenyou foul the ball off, you know
(02:36:26):
sometimes the balls, you know, balls come off the bat you know,
ninety ninety two miles prior to fallright in front of home plate. You
know, I mean, imagine gettinghit with something ninety two right right in
the center of your shinbone. Ohyeah, and it is it is a
deep bruise. And then when youtry to put the deal with is he
(02:36:48):
can walk and do those other things. But you know, when it comes
to getting into baseball activity, that'swhen you know he fills some of the
soreness. And so it's just pineHill, you know, It's one of
those things that time heills. ThankGod, we've been playing really good baseball,
uh in the absence of Tucker, and you know, I know we
(02:37:09):
can't continue, you know, todo that. So we we we'll grind
as much as we can grind. But make no mistake, we are we
are gonna need Tucker, uh,you know, to get to where we
want to be, you know, ultimately in this organization. So uh,
you know, hopefully he'll he'll he'llget through this. I think the deep
bone bruis, you know, andtalking with Tucker and I've had multiple conversations
(02:37:33):
with him, Uh, you know, it's painful when he's you know,
when he's doing baseball activity. Uh, but each day gets a little bit
better, but he still feels thepain. But I think he'll he's gonna
be all right. You'll get throughit. And uh, you know,
thank god, the guys are steppingup and we're playing good baseball in his
absence. I got so much Iwant to talk to you about that.
It'll wait till next Wednesday. Enjoythese last few games before the All Star
(02:37:54):
break, and we'll talk to younext week. We really appreciate you,
and thanks for your time, Dani. All right, askro fans, let's
get it. Let's get in thefirst place before this thing for his first
half. Now we're ready to go. That would be nice. And best
of your family through this. Uh, getting that power back on, buddy.
