Okay, let's do this. SewnSalisbury, there to usc true, longtime
friend, Shawn Salisbury, Brian Lima, go Lobos. This is the Sewan
Salisbury Show. Is Brian even andwe got baseball today, So no Matt
Thomas. Okay, that's correct,No Matt Thomas show. We got the
(00:26):
day game. Astros going for asweep as they should. Again. I
am here hanging out with you,Shoan. It's great to have it.
It's been a couple of years whenyou were in the afternoons. I was
on with you every day right wentto the mornings and you were like and
then yeah about I gave you theRobert Ford you can goodbye exactly here exactly
(00:48):
three o K. Though I'm feelingall right. I got so far.
I'm one coffee in. I've gotmy cold Drew here as well. So
why didn't you buy a curic justfor this morning? But you're here,
you're gonna hear this Stero studio. If you hear bubba in the background on
my microphone, you know what itis. It's not a bong. It's
my curate. And you know whatyou get, well, Youth White cheet
is out of one pop on inthere and here's a deal. But you
(01:11):
can do what they do, likewhen they drive through McDonald's, you know,
order like a big break of thathot coffee and then burn your tongue
and then sue, that's what's yourcoffee is too hot? Yeah? The
woman spilled it all over herself andgot millions, right, and you're mad.
We would you think when you orderedhot coffee it is going to come
out cold and then you get themoney. So they do that, burn
your tongue, will just sue.I heeart. That's why I do cold
(01:32):
brew. I'm extremely I I'm amostly patient individual, except when it comes
to food. I've never ordered acold coffee, so I can't do hot
coffee vice versa. For me,I have to do cold. I feel
like it's a milkshake. Yeah Iwill, No, I don't. I
just dreak it black. Oh youdo? Yeah? Wow, I meant
it. Yeah, of course. It's kind of like you like your women,
(01:53):
well, you know, like, hey, I love my coffee like
I like my women her and reallyreally sweet and smooth? Can you do
both bitter and sweet? Exactly whatI'm doing exactly, So you're here,
Brian's trying to win a chip inFlorida or his baseball team. Really,
(02:17):
he's no Jim Schlasnaggle. At leasthe's staying on the show. He's not
staying. We're not gonna you needto apologize, apologize for me and asking
you that question. I can't waittill we get into that. I do.
When he was at TCU, Iinterviewed him in a great guy,
but this wh where do we findcreditle? Can somebody just please tell us
(02:40):
the truth? What do you doit? And first of all, it
ain't the interview the kid who oweshim an apology. He might need to
send a letter, stand up ona mountaintop and scream to the high head
arrangement something, no doubt. Yeah, we'll definitely get to that at some
point, Jim Schlosnagel. The worstpart was saying, you need to apologize
(03:00):
to me for asking that question.Right, and the kid, listen,
he does have a job to dokind of like you do as a manager.
Yes, or do you apologize tous for putting a different picture in
that we wanted? Do you apologizethat what are you guys struck out with
a guy on and didn't Homer Imean, there's a lot of things to
talk about, but I to me, I just don't get And you know,
(03:23):
the biggest dig and I know you'vegot to smile on your face because
of it as a Loghorn guy,is when he went from A and M
to Texas, he did do theyknow each other? Or is there any
kind of history anything going on?Not at all? And he's you know,
there's a lot of money involved inall that. But can somebody just
tell us when you get interviewed thenight before that we haven't even thought about
(03:46):
that. Right now, we'll talkabout that, and we'll visit that we
just lost to a really good Tennesseeteam. These kids have been great all
year long. I feel for them, and I appreciate the question, but
right now it's probably not the timeto discuss it and move on. And
then you keep credibility because right now, as credible as he's been, how
in the world do we look athim and say anything anything any coach tells
(04:10):
us now, because what happens iswhen he says it now, we don't
believe any other coach. Right It'slike, I listen, I have no
interest in the job. I'm atmy dream job. I left my family,
and I left my family to comehere as a sob story for three
million dollars. I had to comeover here and take all this money with
all. Yeah, and it ishorrible town with all these great facilities in
(04:32):
Aggie Land right in College Station, which is a great place. And yeah,
we feel sorry for you because it'ssuch a long haul from Fort Worth
to you know, it's yet isbut okay, great and you you're awesome.
But then to urinate people, peein their face and tell them it's
raining, you just, I justwhy is it that we're afraid? Don't
(04:58):
you sound if he said I don'treally know what I'm going to do right
now, I got to soak itin. Wouldn't we even hold more respects?
Hey, all of us would considerit the gig exactly, isn't that's
just normal. There was like ahundred directions to go in. Ninety nine
of them made sense and would havebeen fine. The one he chose was
the only one. You shouldn't gobecause you lose credibility, especially at that
time. Yeah, he had toknow, because you don't make the decision
(05:23):
that quick the next day without youragent having been in negotiations of course,
and you're going through this. Youdon't make the decision that quick on a
decision that's pretty monumental, even thoughit's baseball. I get it. It's
not life surgery. What I'm saying. It is his life, and it's
money and it's family. But intruth, you don't wake up and say,
hey, I think I'll go toTexas today. You know it's it's
(05:44):
something you've had to mull over alittle bit. Right, there had been
contact, right, I don't drawup a contract in five hours. Right,
that's my favorite, Like you know, when the trade dead, I
mean when free agency kicks in.Yeah, and a guy at twelve oh
two signs for one hundred and fiftymillion dollars, as if we're supposed to
believe that your age. Hell,I've never talked to them, of course
you haven't. But your representatives haveread alas and provisions in two minutes.
(06:04):
Right, But you hit it perfectly. Of all the things, got ninety
nine problems in a bitch, Aone right is answer and apologize to me.
It should not have been one right. That wasn't the card brother,
and now he's going there, soand you instantly lose a fan base that
loved you. Now it's like, dude, what this is. It's got
(06:27):
to be. This is like BenedictArnold level heel turn. Oh, it
has to be for the Aggie fans. I mean the only way it could
have been worse obviously if it happenedin football, but for Aggie fans to
be one run away from a nationalchampionship. The pain of that getting up
one nothing in the series and thenlosing your coach to the Texas long run,
(06:48):
right, and in game two givingup late home runs where you have
that game as well and just didn'tdidn't quite close it. Which I listen,
Tennessee's good. They've been good allyear long. They're number one.
That part of it's going to happen. But then the fact, I mean
it just then it just started rolling. Man. Yeah, and now assault
in the was like sulphuric acid inthe world. Right, So now you're
(07:08):
going to put on that that AggieI mean the horn hat Longhorns and gonna
do your press conference and then let'sdid he already do it? Today?
It's today? Right? Today,Wednesday? I don't know what day it
was. I'm sorry, I'm adjustingToday's Wednesday, So I think it's today
at eleven am. Okay, soyou you don't you don't know what the
uh I mean. We're saying youyou make the transformation to Texas, and
(07:32):
remember what your dream job was.It was Texas and that's what he said.
So now cap on, Hey,I'm so grateful. It was a
great run, but I finally gotmy dreams. I left my family.
But now there's three million reasons whyinstead of one point eight million reasons why.
I think I really think this ismy dream job. Man. Yeah,
thirty College World Series appearance is sixnational championships. Texas Baseball's big,
(07:56):
right, Oh yeah, there's noquestion about Oh it is. Listen,
tech. In terms of sports,Texas baseball is what in truth what they
don't have the twelve that USC has, right, but that Texas baseball,
sc baseball are what you consider Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama football. It
just is if you're just keeping itbaseball, they're Yankees, Dodgers, their
(08:20):
Knicks Lake that that's who they arehave been in baseball, historic program,
top five, Notre Dame in collegefootball type they're in that, they're in
the team picture, in the topfive baseball programs we've ever had. Yeah,
David Pierce made three College World Seriesin eight years, and they said
that's not good enough. Right. It's like Ryan I said the other day,
it's Ryan Dad said, we'll seeyou later, right, what right,
(08:41):
Ryan day? That he keeps Youknow, here's the guy who will
keep winning eleven games, eleven games, eleven games in position to win a
national title. You can't win anation title, can't beat Michigan. Guess
what happens. You lose your job. Absolutely, And if they get beat
if they get curbed out by Michiganthis year with this roster they have now
and don't win the national title, think about that. Hey, what's your
winning percentage? Nine hundred? Butnow you're coaching at bully game. Yeah,
(09:05):
I mean no disrespect bully, Yeahexactly. You'll be an offensive analyst
for I don't even know somebody. It used to be Nick saban Way.
Oh yeah. And so it justto me is it's his And I don't
blame Listen, I'm not going todog the guy for leaving. No,
I get it, but it waskind of lame. Kiss. Remember when
the way you how I just thinkof Okay, you don't you you prepare
(09:31):
it. These guys are so goodat game time preparation, right, all
the things they tell their players tobe prepared. Be smart when you go
out to a bar, all this, and when you talk to the media,
be smart how you handle it.You know, members, always keep
the team, don't embarrass the university. Keep your teammates in mind, did
you know? Make sure you givecredit word to Then you sit up in
front of it and say, Iknow you're frustrated after the game, but
of all the things, the lessonsyou're teaching players and your kids and all
(09:54):
the team guys you've coached, theyask you about it, and instead of
just simply saying, probably not thetime in a place to talk about it.
I'm still recovering. My mind's onehundred miles away from there. Anything
you could have said, anything,We can have this conversation later whatever.
And then but it's like, comeout to blaze. You chose violence,
(10:15):
right, yeah, yes, yes, you you chose to punch the guy
in the face. And it's like, what you need to apologize. I'm
going to have your credential revoked.Right for a guy whose credibility as a
manager and a coach in college baseballtop shelf. Now, nobody's question is
coaching. But we always like decisionmakers to make good decisions. Yes,
just wasn't a good not to goto Texas. The decision how he handled
(10:37):
the go to Texas to me?But we how many times we seen this
movie in sports rocks eight million million? Yeah, Nick Saban, I will
I don't know how to tell youI'm not going to be the Alabama coach.
Yeah, well, yeah, Iguess what. I was seven championships
or whatever. I'm the Alabama coach. Right, It's just I just don't
get it. It's congratulations to yourlow cord. It's how it goes.
(11:00):
I'm happy, I know, Iguess you are. I really try not
to rub too much in the faceand get into much of the Aggie Longhorn
stuff. But to say I wasn'ton my phone on my couch kicking my
feet up, just scrolling Twitter anddying laughing over and over, I can't
lie I was. I was.Oh, it was a good day to
be a long yesterday. There's beena lot of suffering. I'm just gonna
(11:20):
tell you. Oh. Yeah,it's like if Chip Kelly would have left
UCLA instead of going to Ohio State, would have came over been our analyst
or coordinator. Yeah at UCLA forLincoln Riley after you kick his ass and
him staying no, I'm signing along term deal with you. It's the
same like right, we got you, Yeah, of course, but here
you go, man, and nobodycan blame me for taking the historic text
job. But right now A andM is a better baby. I mean,
(11:43):
they've built something special there and butyou're gonna get put it at the
pool and how it's it's longhorned baseball. There's just a different historic approach to
it. But if you I can'twait to hear from Aggie fans like Aggie
dug and guys Day because I wantto know their paradise. I think it
was sloshed because he tweeted me lastnight and it didn't make any sense.
So we'll figure it out. We'lllook with that, look at the collateral
(12:05):
damage and what's happened from Schlasnegel. Now they're getting out getting drunk afterwards.
Right when he wakes up and recovers, maybe we'll hear from him. All
right, it's time for a breakhere. It is the Sean Salisbury Show.
That is Sean Salisbury. Yes,it's me. I'm ros Vier real
normally on the Matt Thomas showed noshow today. Brian Lima is out,
so I am in. We gotthe Steakout coming up at the seven o'clock
(12:26):
hour. We got Dana Brown comingup at nine thirty. We didn't even
get into the Astros. We alreadygot into the Jim Schlosnegel stuff. We
can definitely get more into that aswell. Astros beat the Colorado Rockies.
You want to get in talk aboutany of it. Seven to one three
two one two five seven ninety sevento one three two one two five seven
ninety Rockets make a trade with theNets last night. Rockets draft number three
(12:50):
tonight. A lot of stuff toget to with you until ten eight am.
Keep it right here at seven onethree two one two five seven ninety
Coach sark here, touchdown, Texas. You've got sports talk seven ninety Houston's
hold of Longhorn football. Back tothe Shawn Salisbury Show. I think is
(13:11):
he back tomorrow for you guys.I'm gonna know what he's doing on how
he goes in the tournament. Okay, I'm gonna say right now that Thursday
is fairly empty. Okay, Okay, we'll we'll find a warm body figure
it out. It won't be me. I was gonna say, let's get
you back out of bed, backto back days. I'm doing the Draft
Show tonight six to nine. Bythe way, I'm on at six am
(13:33):
and six am. Yeah today forseven day tomorrow. What's that you That
could be a long haul. You'regonna be celebrating schlopsdegg ledyway yeah, aggie
fans face, but yeah, no, I think Brian probably Friday, okay,
and what a country club four daysand then just kind of you know,
drop in on a Friday and thenboom right back to the weekend here.
(13:54):
All right? So we we dothis segment on the Matt Thomas Show,
Sean. It's called gut feelings, and it's like something you don't really
feel like it's like, oh,put your name on it type of prediction,
but it's something that's like, youknow what, I got this bad
feeling or I got this good feeling. Last Tuesday one o'clock on the Mantoma
Show, I say, I kindof got this bad feeling, guys,
I don't think the Astros are gonnamake the playoffs, and because I'm a
(14:18):
genius, I said that, andsince then the Astros have not lost.
They've literally gone I mean, inone week, can you remember, ten
games back, you lose to theWhite Sox after I was a Monday.
Now you flip it. You've wonsix in a row. The Mariners keep
losing, and now you're four anda half back. Yeah, at ten
games a week ago, yesterday, literally one week ago, we had like
(14:41):
basically stick a fork in them, right, Which fork is it? Plastic?
Okay of steak fork, which meantit's pretty it matters, it's relevant
oyster fork right right. The plasticfork kind of breaks, you're not really
sure if you're It's kind of likeyou stick it in a steak and it
kind of, you know, oneof those little prongs chip off into your
mouth, right because it's stayed rightand they've got to spit the plastic out,
(15:01):
But you still believe there's a chance. The stake fork is I don't
like my chances, but if it'scooked, right, I got a chance.
Now the pitchfork is you're freaking done, dude, we're bailing. Hey,
you're out, and there was probablymore pitchfork than anything else. Yeah,
it's totally understandable. I agreed, and the opinion of well here's why,
(15:22):
and I get it well, andthe frustration of people say, well,
there's a lot of season left, you know, Dana who come on
to day at nine thirty. Yes, as a big believer in listen,
it's long. Things can change ina hurry. We're gonna run, he
preaches. We're gonna go through ahot streak. It's just gonna happen.
Now, with that hot streak, you gotta have some help, meaning the
team in front of you, becausea week ago it was a twenty game
(15:43):
swing, yes, to get toto get to first place. My gosh,
it's now they've gained five and ahalf games in eight days, five
and a half exactly. And theMariners continue to want to help you out
and they weren't helping you for awhile. I'm playing great baseball. Now
there's the astros, I mean, and it helps that you jump right out
early and go five zero, don'tscore the rest of the game, which
(16:03):
is a bummer, but you jumpout early and score five runs. So
yes, I'm with you. It'slike we were all like, well,
I'm not gonna quick because it isa long season, is yeah, is
a player ATLA. Athletes don't thinklike I mean, the current players don't
think like fans and media do.Well, you know, guy's falling.
Those guys can't because if could youimagine if Bregman thought the way we thought
about his slub. Right, well, guys hitting exactly, you finished,
(16:30):
matter of fact, just signing withsomebody else through twenty twenty four, already
somewhere else. So but they don'tbelieve athletes are always because they have to
compartmentalize a day to day thing, right, they just have to, and
we don't. And so it's like, okay, man, just the optics
of their season told you that they'rethey're consistently inconsistent. That was their strength.
Being inconsistent was their biggest consistent piece. Well, here they are putting
(16:53):
the hitting and hitting together, gettinggood pitching data. I mean, a
Hunter Brown's been off the charts sevenstraight the quality starts and he's been and
they've been dominated. Some of themhave been complete dominance. And the guy
looks like a frontline starter. Sowhen you get that, you score quick.
Now you've put yourself in position, not only one game under five hundred,
and their first goal was to getto five hundred and day to set
(17:15):
it. Well, they're good, they play like this. They're getting a
five hundred today. Yeah, today, And he said, by I said,
is is there a threshold of timewhen you think, okay, there's
a bunch of things got to getdone here? He said late July?
Well, yeah, didn't you say, was it with you guys? Five
games by late July? There fourand a half. It's June twenty six.
They're a month ahead of progress.Where he thought you kind of had
(17:37):
that threshold of time right of whereyou're like, okay, not I guess
that would be that panic button. But and here we are a week later,
just eight days, seven days lateron your show, our show,
and everybody else saying, wait aminute, now, we from having them
buried now somehow you buried him aliveand they stayed alive, And here they
are now. They found a wayto get out and start breathing and they're
playing now. Who the hell knows, Because you go and screw up in
(18:02):
New York and do all that, you'd be right back to seven or eight
games at some point time. TheMariners are gonna get hot again. But
you stay this way, now you'rea series and a half away from being
in first place. Craziness, man, It's it's insane and you, yeah,
you have to make up ground andwe expect it. It was just
going to be kind of this slow, incremental thing. But it's been in
one week going from ten back tofour and a half. And like you
(18:22):
mentioned, Hunter Brown, last sevengames, seven straight quality starts. He's
given up seven earned runs in thoseseven starts era of one point four to
seven over that stretch. And itdoesn't look like an accident. It doesn't
look like he's got a bunch ofhard contact and it's finding gloves and he's
getting lucky and walking three guys andhe is out there dominating folks. Steve
(18:47):
Sparks had said when he was goingthrough the time, you say, there
was a point in time when peoplewanted to send into Triple A, and
but you just see the bullpen, right and then the bullpen was sex say,
well, he's not a starter rightnow, got to put him in
the bullpen to get right. Andthen all of a sudden, Steve Sparks
would come on here and Steve whatis it? You know, you you
see the mechanics of is it mechanicsis mental? What is it? You
(19:08):
know? The combination goes shining. He wanted more hundred Brown to take the
inner part of the plate to challengethe inner part a two seamer and and
and get him after he's doing that, that sinker. It's almost as if
Hunter Brown was listening to say,you know what, Steve Sparks is right,
yeah, and I'm it felt likeit literally he just Sparks said it,
and the next start it was like, oh wow, now whether it's
(19:30):
true. But the fact of thematter is they have those conversations and in
the you know, clubhouses and inthe bullpen, and they're in there in
between start sessions and all that, and lo and behold the dude is now
And there's that sense of confidence whenyou have a picture the inter Houf's not
yours, it's mine. And he'sdoing it, and he's throwing getting ahead
in the count ross and and andhe's overpowering up. You know, he's
(19:52):
got ninety seven ninety eight in andwhen he lets it out, and he's
getting ahead in the in the inthe count and he's he's not walking so
up in people, and he looks. If I didn't tell you he had
those struggles and this was a tonof brown you saw, would you not
be saying this is a dominant frontlinestarter. It's the way that he looks
now, it's the way and wehad Joe spot it on yesterday and he
(20:12):
said, this is it, like, it's the confidence you can kind of
tell if you don't if you turnto hit mute on the TV and you
just look at a picture in rhythm, pitching on time, confident, the
way that they're dialed and locked in. Hunter Brown went from like looking like
this scared little faunet now he lookshe looks like a dog out there.
Yeah. You know, sometimes bodylanguage could be overrated, Yeah, and
(20:33):
then sometimes it can be spot onand underrated. And with him, there's
it's almost like give me that ballback as quick as you can catch her,
because I got another pitch for theseclowns. That's how it feels,
That's how it looks, and itdoesn't even matter a couple of guys on
base or whatever. He's been lockedin all right, Time for another break.
As we're flying by here. Acouple of segments in it is Sean
Salisbury Show. My name is Rossv Real. I'm filling in normally twelve
(20:56):
to three on the Matt Thomas Show. Sean Salisbury is here. We got
the steak out coming up in aboutforty five minutes. Dana Brown coming up
at nine thirty. You at sevenone three two one two five seven ninety
is Hunter Brown? That dude, are you buying in seven to one three
two one two five seven ninety Backin a minute, Hey, Sean Salizberg.

Shaboozi today because I don't think Shaboozi. Oh. I think Shaboozy actually is
Westrow. I think he is,Oh he is. I think he has
that. But tips and I'm inthe bar getting tipsy. So that's so
we're not putting enough respect on Schabuoz. Let's respect on's name. Man,
Come on, spell use it,spell chaboozi and use it in a sentence.
(23:52):
Uh, well the other day waschaboozi s h A b o o
z e y Is that how itis? Yeah, that is how it
is. I was I was gettingday drunk on Saturday and I was getting
pretty shaboozy. Nice. Yeah right, you went deep into the chaboozi.
Yes, I was shaboozing hard. There you go. I like it.
(24:14):
I like it. So we doneed to put a little more respect on
schabooze right now. But if you'reif you're drinking champagne, you're getting shaboozi,
then go see this is what manreally elevated your play this morning.
Yes, I have apparently his nameis Collins Obina Chiboozie Chibuoese, and I
guess that's his shaboozy. Okay,I like, who's going with all?
(24:36):
Right? There we go. Thatwas not Chaboozi. I know it was
it, But I found a newplaylist guy, Ye Shaboozi. The Chaboozy
Playlist there name. When you're say, when I say the name, what
genre does it fit? It's well, this is says alt country. I
don't even know what that means.Old country. At oh Alt William I
(24:56):
was gonna say, I didn't listento him with Merle Haggard. Okay,
that's saund Ladies and gentleman. Yeah, tonight the concert at the Grand ole
Opry is Merle Haggard, hang ybozy. Yes we're going nuts. Yeah,
I uh, I don't. I'mgonna put more respect. You put some
respect on sho number one apparently.Yeah, a bar song Tipsy hit number
(25:21):
three on the on the US BillboardCharts. Shame on us, Yes,
shame on you. Yeah, I'llown it. I gotta I'm gonna dig
deeper into shaboozy. Yeah, comeon, you gotta gotta go back to
the drawing board. You gotta dobetter, agreed, Gotta look yourself in
the mirror. Alternative country. Iguess what it is? Country is that?
And that what it is? Yeah, we'll have to play some shaboozi
at some point, I guess inthe show. We will, all right,
ros v real with you Sean Salisburyas well. We're talking All Things,
(25:45):
All Things Anything, seven one three, two, one two five,
seven ninety. We're talking some ofthe Astros. Last segment, they get
to win over over the Colorado Rockiesgo for a two game sweep today one
ten. First pitch here on SportsTalk seven ninety, Dan Up Brown coming
up up at nine p thirty andRay in Sugarland on the phones. What's
up? Ray? Hi, Goodmorning, guys. How are you doing
(26:07):
today? Awesome? Man? What'son your mind? Brother? Hey,
here's what's on my mind. Okay, this is a little story I got
because nineteen seventy seven, we wereplaying I was a junior in high school.
We were playing a city championship. Our coach, unfortunately had a son
that wasn't worth the damn, buthe wanted to play him in the championship
(26:29):
game. He put him in.We started losing, he took him out,
We started winning, he put himin, We started losing. At
halftime, my dad and three orfour other parents came to the locker room
and told him that they weren't evengonna let us play anymore if he put
him back in the game. SoI got personal experience with this. What
(26:52):
happened was the reason they won fiveor six games in a row. Is
the paw had the paw has thethorn taken out of it? The thorn
was the first basement. Everybody knewit. You knew it. I knew
it, the owners knew it.Everybody knew it. But until they got
the balls to take him out, nothing could change because you can't hold people
(27:12):
accountable for winning. And you're gonnaask me to be a perfect person or
eighty percent of myself and he gota guy at ten percent. So when
the management showed that they could dowhat they need to do and actually gave
a damn, then the players nowbecame what they normally are because they they
(27:34):
all the management was doing is givingthem kryptonite. So that's that's my story.
And I know why they're winning becausethey're winning team. So go Astros
appreciate the call. Ray, thankyou very much. And I mean you
may not be walking into clubhouses nowto do it and tell the coach not
to play somebody. I get whathe's saying, though, because that was
(27:56):
during a correlation in his team andwhat happened. Do you believe that it's
just as simple as a bray. You're not being on the team. I
don't think so. I think obviouslyit's part of it, but any one
player isn't gonna be worth the turnaroundthat they're having now. It is helpful
that you don't have the sinkhole thatwas Jose A. Bray in the lineup
(28:18):
right, But because you were Mariso Dban at first base, Yester he
went over four. So it's it'sit's about collective, it's about timing.
It's about the pitching that they've done, the turnarounds from Hunter Brown, it's
been There was somewhat of a turnaroundfrom Spencer Arraghetty, but the pitching performances.
If Jose Abray were there last nightand Hunter Brown was doing his thing
(28:40):
like he was, he didn't matterwho's there. It's a collective team thing.
And I don't think, and Iknow the caller Ray was making the
comparison to like, hey, everybodyfeels like this guy is holding us back.
Those guys know Jose Greg pregnant,Jose Altuve, all the Jordan Alvarez,
the leaders. They wanted Jose toperform. He just wasn't right,
and they do and I thought hewas gone, great clubhouse guy and he
(29:04):
was never and never made an excusefor what he did. He just didn't
know. So I and I hewas easy to root for because he's a
good human and a good teammate andnever made excuses for his struggle. I
do know this. Father Time's undefeated, and except if you're Tom Brady especially,
that's it's true. But but FatherTime didn't have to do Jose like
that. No he didn't. Hedid him wrong, but he didn't really
(29:26):
do him that bad. He madea lot of money. So Father Todd
actually get maybe Father tied. FatherTime has a sense of humor. Brother,
you may not be able to producebut eighty nine average, but I'm
thirty million to go away, givenyou a million to hit. So so
if Father Time was fine to him, father Time to treatise like that,
that's true. So but with thatand I and I think I kind of
(29:48):
get where Ray's going. It's notjust production. But I'm with you,
and I said it all along.I said, if you think that it's
a one guy thing and a nineman when there's nine minute field, it's
you're wrong. Because if that's thecase, then we should have ran then
Bregman offensively for two months. Wejust said detriment to the ten. Right,
Yeah, it can't be one gad. I don't think the astros al
rushed into Jose Brady's hotel room, held him down and beat him with soap
(30:08):
bars soap, right, we can'tthink it full metal jacket and I do
think right, I do think theywanted him to succeed, like you like
good teammates. But there is adifferent energy from just a baseball energy that
comes from that's a black hole inthe lineup it so we know when it
gets to that that what braid comesup, It's time to get a drink.
(30:30):
When you're on the couch watching thegame and a Brave comes up,
it's time for the bathroom. Ifyou're in the dugout, you don't have
opportunity to go to go grab somethingto club it down the clubhouse steps because
you know you're gonna be back outplaying defense, so because it's not gonna
last long. So with that, there's an energy. It's not one guy,
but there is a different energy becauseyou you feel like there's a little
more hope at the production now firstbase in truth, for them to beat
(30:51):
a World Series team is going tohave to have more production regardless who the
body is, whether it's Dubond, whether it's Joey Low Perfito, or whether
it's Harry Hatchet Acid for Space. But I do get what Ra's saying.
The listen, their record is whenyou look at it, if you just
look at the sheer numbers, you'relike, yeah, there's a big reason
you could do that about different playeris gonna be a twenty games swing?
(31:14):
Right are we supposed to say, well, the Astros just trade Kyle Tucker.
You don't need to sign him ofthem right right, they're witted without
him. So it just and timing. But a lot of it has to
do with that dude on the moundwhen he's when when that cat whoever that
cat is, is wearing other teamsout. You don't need to score nine
runs. They only needed two lastnight and they were right. Was we
didn't five four because of the homeruns. That's exactly right. So but
(31:38):
you got five early and didn't youdid not have to score again past the
early innings, and we're still ableto win because you got a dynamic performance
from Hunter Brown. Yeah, HunterBrown did his thing. Six inning,
shutout ball, seven runs earned runsgiven up in his last seven starts.
He is a full on dude.Time for a quick break here on the
Sean Salisbury Show, with you untilten a m. Who will be producing
(32:00):
at first base? We'll ask DanaBrown coming up at nine point thirty here
on the show. We also gotthe steak Out. We also have you
at seven one three, two,one two five seven ninety seven one three,
two, one two five seven ninetyLet the celebration start war Sean Salisbury.
It's a Sewan Salisbury show. Don'tcome in here with your ribk show.
(32:22):
Did I start crying? My richrib case hasn't shown since I was
probably about six months old. Let'ssay, but I think we're onto something
here for you, don't you.Yeah? I think so. I mean
take you out of your your youryour normal livelihood. Yeah, I don't
have to deal with Matt Thomas today. Oh thank god. I think that's
what So basically maybe that's what Briansaid. Well, we did what we
(32:44):
did, you a favorite favor RosbyReal Sean Salisbury. Here, we get
the steak out. Coming up ina little bit, Dana Brown coming up
at nine thirty. That is oneof the things we are going to talk
about. We're talking about last segment, Sean uh Maurice du Bond. We
like playing him everywhere. We likehim in the outfield, we like him
in the infield. You're kind ofplaying him at first base out of necessity.
(33:06):
And I think if we're starting talkingabout pointing to the deadline and the
Astros being buyers, which Dana Brown'sbeen consistent they're gonna be buyers. There's
no reason to doubt them after thisrun that they've happened only four and a
half games back. Where are youputting priority with first base? Of course,
as it relates to also trying toget a starting arm, it goes
(33:27):
starting arm. I wouldn't rule outa bullpen arm either. You can never
have too agreed. So pitching, listen, even if you got five,
if you've got the Atlanta Braves,Smoltzklavin, Maddox staff and Steve Avery,
guess what, you're still looking foranother pitcher just in case. Now,
if you do it, nobody's evergoing to complain, right, So that's
the priority that start a bullpen.Let's put him together now. Next for
(33:52):
me is there's no doubt a Nowlisten, we're talking twenty plus days now
with a bone bruise. Kyle Tucker'snot in line and there's no bone damage.
It's it's listen the threat and they'vesaid it's just a threshold of pain.
That's one hell of a bone bruise, right, And I'm ok is
he okay? I don't know thatthat's he's still not doing baseball. He's
(34:14):
hitting off a tee. That's whatJoe Spott said yesterday. So and the
one thing you can't question is hisdurability. The dude's been durable since he's
been in this league. So thethreshold of paint, Listen, I'm not
comparing a guy with rugby califlower hereor a hockey player who breaks a leg
and still wants to play to rightfield and baseball. I'm not saying.
But I'm also not diminishing and sayingthat Kyle Tucker is not a tough guy.
(34:37):
I don't know what it is.So from a distance, you say,
man, that's a long bone bruisewithout it being a fracture or a
chip in the in the shen right, But for whatever reason, that's one
hell of a deep bone bruce. So with that, I don't know.
Dana Brown's mentioned depending on where itgoes that they're not. You can't discount
or shrink the fact that another powerback that provides production. And he used
(35:00):
this phrase in the middle of thelineup. You know what that tells me,
a guy who can drive the ballright. That you're not looking for
a guy that they can move right. You're looking for a and on this
team, you start to think, well, you know Tucker is going to
be back at some point. Dubon'syour Swiss army knife. Bregman started swinging
the bat. So isn't it logicthat you'd say, Now, I don't
(35:21):
know if that first basement's flat Guerrero, but I'm with you. I think
that's the next priority because on aneveryday player, there's only there's really one
position you need. It's that oneright, Yeah, now you can Jake
Myers gets three hits last night, they're going to move around the Dubon Myers,
McCormick, low berfeedo stuff in thosetwo outfield positions, center and left
field. And until Tucker comes back, you've got to have a guy playing
(35:44):
right field. But when he does, and assuming that, let's say,
let's even say that he misses untilthe All Star break, it's like,
right now, why is the rushthe way they say that? I know,
come on, I know, butif I'd have told you was a
bone bruise with no bone damage, would you just said it's been this long?
I thought he would be a weeweek ago. That's exactly right.
So Ross, that's the next onefor me. And after that you just
(36:07):
if there's somebody else you throw inhell if you get two pitchers. So
for me. And here's what canlull you to sleep with great play with
the way they're playing now, isto think that we're good as a gentleman
as you can't think that you've gotto prepare for We're maybe good, but
you know what we got to beto win a World Series, to beat
a team like the Phillies or theDodgers when they're going good, we got
to be great. And part ofbeing great is what Ross another bat or
(36:30):
production at first base, whoever thatis. And I don't think they want
to play Dubon every day. Youknow why I think they think he's too
He's Ben Zobrist. I'm talking aboutright here, one position all the time,
left field, center field, thirdbase, shortstop, first base,
DH if you need second base onthe day out right, I think they
(36:51):
want that versatility with him, whichmeans I don't believe, deep in my
soul that they want to play Dubonat first base every day. So but
I do believe they want an extrabat and I think they want that position
solidified, even if it comes fromout of the building. That's priority number
two. Yeah, I think marI like I love Mauricio dubont, I
do you too, But you wanta power hitting, slugging first baseman.
(37:13):
And I think this injury that theto Kyle Tucker and you know out Jordon
goes out for a couple days,Bregman goes out for a couple of days,
and then all of a sudden boom, you look up and Jake Myers
is your cleanup hitter. Like youneed more depth, no Ques, certainly
at the position play question. Allright, it is already that time.
Our number one into the books.Where did it go? I don't know?
Three more to go here on theSean Salisbury Show, we have the
(37:36):
steakout coming up. Dana Brown goingto address what are they going to do
at first base? What are theygoing to do with the pitching staff as
well? Who's gonna be their fifthstarter. I don't know, we'll find
out at nine thirty if you wantto stay right here. Also you can

is the Sean Salisbury Show thirty becauseif you got three e's in your name,
you've got to go tripley. Ilike that and and not only that,
and now on the base it's EmmanuelElmore. How about the guy rolls
in here? Yeah, he rollsin here, rolls in here, and
(40:15):
in like eight minutes has a nickname. Yeah, that's like, that's moving
there. You know, you haven'tcalled me one, You haven't called name
you give me yes, yes, yes, they called him Roscoe forever for
so there you go. So see, now Tripley's gonna start calling you Roscoe.
Us. We got names and youare, I believe still. Yes,
(40:38):
that's never changed, that's right.Yeah, when your kids start calling
you the Chando, you know itsticks. Hey, that would be dad
to you there, Venmo boy.Yeah yeah, I used to call my
kids that by my middle boys, you know, because kids when there yeah,
oh, they'll call you up andsay, hey, pops man,
how you doing? Just thinking abouthope things are going well? You know,
(41:00):
and thereon college, right, Ididn't have that right calling you up.
It's like hey, and they're like, dang, my kids call me
up at of Blue just staying popping, and they'll what they'll do. But
they'll call like nine thirty in themorning. It's like, you do know,
I'm working. Oh yeah, man, my bad, Pops. But
I'll call you back after the show. So they called back and you think
they're checking on you. Yeah, but then as the call starts to wind
down, say and guy, son, I love you man, I'll look
(41:22):
for pop. So by the way, by the way, well yeah,
listen, I'm got our fraternity party. The ring drops coming right and so
oh so what's coming is couple bucks. So when my middle boy got his
gig and he's killing it in Austinreal estate, destroying it awesome, And
(41:43):
so he finally calls me up.They dad, do you need me tovemo
you anything? Like like, oh, Pops, I'm I'm the man like
that. I do too. I'msaying, no, you don't need to.
I'm good, but you don't needto. Yeah, I like,
next time I come to town,it's your treat on the stake. But
you make it all that paper rightand cover the happy hour. So it's
good. So now, so youknow, sometimes he'll call me ven Won
(42:07):
and I went, now, Iwant your Venmo, but you are treating
next with all that money you're making. So yeah, so that's why I
listened to the boy by the oldestboy used to go, hey, oh,
you're called that to Venmo. Butyou know there's all I guarantee all
parents are out there saying, ohyeah, when the kid checks on you,
there's the Oh. By the way, the last thirty or forty five
seconds of the phone call they calledthe checks, but really they get to
(42:29):
butter you up your motives. Ilove you, I love you by the
way. That's that's the kid moved, no doubt. All right. So

Sean Brian in Parland wants to getin Jim Schlosnagel from A and M to
(42:51):
Texas. What's up, Brian,Hey, Ross, weird to hear you
before noon. So uh, it'sweird to be on before noon. Hey,
real quick, I'm here to providea little more insight for those people
who don't subscribe to Texas or anythinglike that. Sean, you may not
know, graduated from A and MO two So a M fan. First
(43:15):
of all, kudos to Texas. You're getting a helm of baseball coach.
No taking away from that, you'regetting a scumbag of a human being,
but you're getting a helmet baseball coach. And it wouldn't surprise me if Texas
wins the national title within three orfour years or at least playing for it.
So he's a helme of coach. But apparently a lot of this has
(43:36):
been brewing for a while. Ifyou look right before A and M or
became the number one seed in therankings back in like early March late February.
Then they played in Georgia and theylost like five of seven. Apparently
that was the time when rumors startedcoming about out of this that something might
(43:58):
be in the works. And forthose who don't know, Chris Decanti,
who's the UTAD, was the adat Tcusnegel. They are longtime friends.
They've known each other for twenty plusyears and apparently they kept in regular contact
as good friends for the entire threeyear slash Schnegel was there with him the
(44:22):
whole time. Dog kidding, Idon't I don't know what the whole backstory
is if there was anything like that. But you know, apparently the Kendall
Rodgers, who writes for Division oneBaseball, has said he was reaching out
to potential nil transfer saying, hey, you may not want to commit until
after the year to see if anychanges or made, so that would be
(44:45):
curious. The part that hurts themost is if it is true, then
he takes his entire staff. Theguy who was a pitching coach did a
hell of a job with the Aand M staff, and that's really what
got A and M there. Butalso the guy who's the first assistant is
a guy named Nolan Kane, who'sapparently very well regarded as a hell of
(45:06):
a recruiter and all of that knowsbaseball, and apparently that whole staff may
be going with him whether they wantto or not. But the fact that
people think, oh, this justhappened overnight. Now he was managing with
burn orange socks on, You justcouldn't see it. This deal was done
apparently a long time ago, andhim did everything they could to keep him.
(45:28):
But he trev Alberts was not hisgeneral it was not his ad.
He was hired by Ross Puork promisesapparently were made. There were stadium renovation
meetings for Bluebelt Park, which iswhere Adam Baseball plays, that apparently Schloshenegel
wanted, but they never attended thosemeetings. Would maybe send his assistant or
(45:50):
one of his assistants to go tothat personnel that Slush was close to or
let go. So there was justapparently a lot brewing behind the scenes that
people don't know. So it sucks. But apparently this was long in the
works before Monday night even happened. And apparently the kid who was who was
attacked by Schlashnagel last point, I'lllet you guys go. I know you
(46:14):
got other people. Works for Textaggs. Billy Lucci said he had contact him
and asked, while Lucci was there, should I ask Slashnagel the question because
if he's not going anywhere, it'sa layup question for him. It doesn't
put any pressure on him. Hecan say, yeah, I'm absolutely staying.
I love it here. It wasthe lift service that he was giving.
But apparently then he not only gotoff the podium, he went and
(46:37):
confronted this guy. And it's beenconfirmed by multiple people because he went and
confronted Richard Zane, who works forText, eggs off to the side of
the room and said that was anabsolute BS move. I'll never talk to
you again. Well, of coursehe won't because he'll be in Texas now.
But apparently just it was a reallyreally bad look, and they said,
(46:58):
that's kind of when people talk. All right, he's gone. He
told you know, his players foundout on social media. He you know,
he told him at the last minute. Yeah, Hey, the rumors
are true. I'm going. Sothat's a little bit more context into everything
that happened. So hopefully that atleast gives the point there. But you
(47:19):
know, it wouldn't surprise me ifA and M tried to go after Tony
by Tello at Tennessee and just throwthem a boatload of money, because apparently
by Tello and Slash and they gono longer get along, even though they
were on the Satan staff at TCU. So if you're apparently a m brass
is upset, not the fact thatSchlee's left, the fact that he get
it to go to ut And soit wouldn't surprise me if A and M
(47:42):
says, Okay, we're gonna throwfive, We're gonna double your your salary,
Tony by Tello, and come ondown here. We got the money.
But apparently AM thought this might bea possibility, which is why they
made double the buyout of Schlosh's contract. Yeah for it in state. All
right, thanks, thanks, BrianMan. I'm sorry, we gotta let
you go. Appreciate you getting inand thank you for the conversation. Yeah,
(48:05):
if you guys had missed it.Here is Jim Schlasnagel talking about are
getting asked the question about the openingat Texas I think it's pretty selfish of
you to ask me that question,to be honest with you, Uh,
but my uh, I left myfamily to be the coach at Texas A
and M. I took the jobat Texas A and m to never take
(48:27):
another job again, and that hasn'tchanged in my mind. That's unfair to
talk about something like that. That'dbe like you asking Montgomery if he's going
to sign in the draft. ButI understand you got to ask the question.
But I gave up a big partof my life to come take this
job, and I've poured every ounceof my soul in this job. And
I've given this job every single ounceI can possibly give it. Write that
(48:49):
well, Montgomery Mason and guess what, Uh, there's there's always another job.
I guess it also, I'm goingto Texas right right there. It
was a passionate cell. Though apassionate cell. I don't And you know
what, all those things about givinghis are true, Yeah, accept well
(49:12):
I don't. I don't think itwas out of line asking except the fact
that this was the last job you'reever going to have in college baseball.
He went full offensive. He didthe twenty four not was it not even
twenty four hours later? And therewas no hesitation in his and his in
his forward thing. He was like, I mean, on him like a
(49:32):
chicken on a june bug, dude. And I just can't imagine being I
mean, he's somewhat back into acorner. There's kind of no right answer.
But there's a bunch of a that'sthe wrong one, right, that's
the wrong answer. I have alot do. He's a hell of a
manager. Let's we'll get Holly andlet's get her in real quick before we
go to break u ross. Buthell of a manager. But then the
(49:54):
credibility of doing that and a semibe rate of the reporter right, and
then turn around and leave and gotake the money. Text, I get
why he take the money, couldhave got today, could have taken He
took an unpaved road for damn sureto get there too. If to finally
make the decision, what less thantwenty four hours later? Yeah, that
decision was made before that. Youand I both know it, all right,
(50:15):
Hollywood, qick, what's up?Hey, I'm back on the answers.
Guys, of course, who isn'twe are so back call the mayor,
the praise back on and anyway,I have just two quick thoughts,
real quick talking about who we mightneed come deadline time. I just don't
(50:35):
see how any other question about it. We need an arm, whether it's
middle relief, we'll pen like y'allwere talking earlier, fifth fourth, fifth
starter type guy. I don't knowwho's out there. I don't know who
we'd have to give up. Butwhen Kyle comes back, we're going to
have a long gym in the outfield. So I just wanted to know you
guys thought about I hate to doit, but Jake or Chaz one of
(50:58):
them offering them up in a pieceto get a picture, and uh,
I don't understand why they if that'sif they don't want to do that,
then why are they so scared togive Joey a chance at first base?
I don't understand that they're so reluctanton that and they're so gonna, you
know, not gonna do that. Those are the things that I just kind
(51:21):
of have in my head about. You know, when Kyle comes back,
there's gonna be so many outfielders, and you want to have Liverpeeda on the
field. You want you're gonna haveTalker on the field. Myers and McCormack,
you know, they kind of goback and forth on them on whoever
has the hot hen so and thenyour Done likes to play left field.
He does good when he plays leftfield. And so I just I don't
(51:42):
know, guys. I just thoughtmaybe one of our one of our major
league guys, whether it be ChashJake, I don't know, would be
a piece that we could put together, maybe with some cash, maybe with
another minor leaguer, just to getus an arm to get us through to
UH to the end of the year. So I'll let y'all talk about that.
And I appreciate y'all and Ghostros.Thank you, Hollywood you. I'll
(52:04):
discuss and we get back. Ithink that's a good part of the steak
out. We can discuss and tothat great family. I met last week
in the store and Katie we weretalking. Came up to me and said,
Sean, I think it's a goodidea when you say put the parade
back on and run it down fourteensixty three right through Katie, right there,
all the construction and stuff. Ithink that's where we're gonna do it.
Ross, ok stros prayed right downfourteen sixty three, really right right
there in Katie. Okay, we'renot doing that. Then that was all
(52:27):
sideboard. Well we've we've decided outsideof the box. Yeah, yes,
coreat tired of you guys all loveit there, come out to full Shirkady
We'll see out there. Okay,Yes, the steakout is coming up.
We also have Dana Brown coming upat nine thirty quick break. Here it
is Sewn Salisbury Show. The SeanSalisbury Show continues on yours smart TV.
(52:50):
Listen to Sports Talk seven ninety onany device with our free iHeartRadio app.
All right, Sean, what areyou hearing out there now? The Salisbury
stakeout Salsbury's takeout on the Sean SalisburyShow seven to twenty one in the AM
(53:15):
Sports Talk seven ninety and yes,it is that time for the Sean Salsbury
steakout ross Veriel Triple e and ofcourse Sean Salisbury with you folks. So,
Sean, I pose the question toyou. We are going into a
time machine. I will tell youthat the Astros have made the playoffs,
(53:42):
and I ask you you are JoeAspata filling out the lineup card some key
pieces including first base and your gameone starting pitcher. All right, and
you two we'll go through this andyou tell me, say I disagree or
agree? And how can you putthere fair enough? Sounds a game one
starter playoffs world? There there,let's say it's the A L C S
(54:05):
do there? Okay, let's takeit even deeper. Okay, here here
we go. You like to takeit? Who doesn't? Who does it?
Who doesn't? Whoa like? Everybodylikes launch angle and home runs?
Yeah exactly, I know that's longjangles. Good. Yeah, I know
that's It depends on I guess itdepends on who's are. Sometimes you can
(54:32):
hit a broken bat home run tookay, you little squibbler. Jim Rice
was strong enough to the warning trackerout of the ballpark. There you go.
All right, here's my lineup.Now I'm gonna. I'm gonna.
I shouldn't have to qualify it.I would love with Holly as well.
And when we talked with h Joe, I mean Dana Brown about a spot
(54:55):
of getting at bats. Non committalto full time first base. Probably get
some run there, okay, solow perfito I'm talking about Okay, I
would love to see at some pointin time. I don't think you're gonna
be able to keep him out ofthe lineup. I don't know when that
is. And I think, yeah, I think by the end of twenty
twenty four, you're gonna say he'san everyday player on this team. I
do. I think it can happentwenty twenty five, when they go to
(55:15):
spring training, he's going to bepenciled as a starter somewhere. I believe
that, all right, I agree. And also I think I was thinking
about it maybe the wrong way.I was thinking about how maybe they don't
trust him at first base as faras just get not having the time there
fair enough, But also look atthe catches that he makes out there in
outfield. Are you doing yourself withthe service to put him at first base
(55:37):
when he can cover that ground thathe can in outfield. And along with
what Holly said, if you're goingto move a Myers or a McCormick,
is that clear and space for himto play more at the left field?
And maybe that's their thought problem toconsider. We'll do that and listen,
you trust Dubon everywhere, but Dubon'snot exactly your prototypical first baseman, either
offensively or at the place that's exactlyright. So here's me leading off OL
(56:01):
two BA at second base, ofcourse for those playoffs, and we're looking
in October, whether it's the beginningof the playoffs of the ALCS. Here's
how I'm starting out now, twov's at first, hitting hit first.
I believe that you're going to haveBregman in the two hole. Okay,
third base. I would go withTucker just because he can get on base,
he's got the speed, he cansteal a bag. I think what
(56:21):
they're going to end up doing ismoving Tucker back for the way they're winning
now, I think, and SteveSparks, I think it mentioned toting.
That's exactly right, and I thinkhe's only going to get hotter if three
is your done? And d Hall right for Kyle Tucker right field?
All right, the five, I'vegot Tucker and Bregman swap okay, but
(56:42):
those four in the lamps saying okay, just just moved around in the five
hole. It's a tough one.I'm going to say, what's that,
Pete Alonzo our first baseman in theOctober in the five full maybe yin or
Deer's in. So the order isnot exactly that important at five or six,
(57:07):
right, Maybe I'm going with thatthe first basement is not on the
roster. You're gonna acquire somebody whoyou're gonna plug in at first base.
I tend to agree that the firstbaseman is not on the roster that we're
going to run out there in October. You're so hitting in the five or
six ale. If it's not, then Daz into six hole or five hole
(57:28):
and he'll be catching. Then youhave if you need Dubon where you need
him, Paina, yes, hittingin the seventh hole, or Paina hitting
in the six hole and Diaz hittingin the seventh hole. But but I
do like having I don't want atop heavy lineup who's hot. That's exactly
so that five, six, seveninterchangeable. But obviously I don't think at
(57:50):
that stage of the season Pain you'llbe hitting in the in the first four.
I think he'll be hitting in thenext three. Does that make sense?
Yes, Okay, in the eighthole, you're probably it's the left
field center field thing. Yes,and it's gonna be if Myers, it's
gonna be. Now, it's hardto say because when you say who you
running out there on the opening one, the opening one may not be the
(58:13):
same as second. It'll be this. It'll be four guys playing two positions,
depending on analytics the pitching matchup right, You'll Dubon will be there available,
and you may start him at aposition, but Myers will start in
centerfield and probably hit in the eightor he'll hit in the eight or nine
hole. Yeah, and at thattime you would hope that McCormick's power bat
goes. But it'll be the Dubonlow Perfedo chas McCormick. Those four guys
(58:37):
two positions that will all play inthe first three games of the opening playoff
series. That makes sense. Ithink I'm on board and will be your
opening day starter. But I cantell you this, Hunter Brown won't be
waiting wrong to get Blanco at thetop. Is I mean, Renal Blanco's
(58:58):
second in the American couldn't more. But you know what they're not going to
do. You know why they're notgoing to move Fromber back. They don't
need to mess with his head. They're going to run him out there,
but with a quicker leash. Ifit happens and he's shown two of the
last three starts, he can giveyou work coorse stuff. I still believe
they run him out there first, and depending depending on if you're a lefty
heavy team they're playing, and we'llassume full rest for everyone. That's exactly
(59:21):
right. I'm gonna say, fromberstarts for you in the opener. Okay,
game two, there's a guy onthe IL cont I know who's been
there, done that. My guttells me it's him. Two, Blanco,
three, Hunter Brown, four andall four. I mean, and
(59:42):
if you have a slugging first basementand that four, you're not winning the
World Series, but you're in theyou're in the hunt well and and depending
on what happens with the health ofa Yankees team or yes, I don't
know, guys, right, andI don't know. Cleveland's playing great,
but you are. We are weCleveland World Series team and there are twenty
plus games over five hundred? Arethey? Is it the division? Listen?
(01:00:05):
I have all the respect in theworld for them because Ramiers they bang
their pist Yes, that's what I'msaying. But in a long series,
I'd still take the Astros. Iwould. I think I would. I
think at this moment right now,I would still take the Orioles even though
they swam no doubt, and it'sgoing to be different. I'm thinking October.
Yes, I agree, and youknow what, somebody in the American
(01:00:27):
League East outside the Yanks, they'regonna hang at Boston's playing pretty good bad
but I don't think you can Bostoncan hang in a long series, but
they're getting good pitching. I stilllike the and the power rankings Yankees.
I know Cleveland would be there. It's hard and guess what, the Rangers
are not going to go away ifthey get healthy pitching because they can raak,
They're gonna hang around, right andthe Mariner's pitching, if it's healthy,
(01:00:49):
is gonna hang around too. Exactly. You give me power at first
base and with that pitching staff healthy. Take about how the narrative shifted,
brother, What a difference a weekmakes. Last week we're talking about parts.
Are we selling off? Now we'rebuying baby? Bye bye bye.
Six weeks ago, Hunter Brown washeaded towards sugar Lander, the bullpit,
(01:01:10):
the first starter, the bitcoin ofbaseball as a great did you talking?
All right? We got to takea break here, We see you on
hold there, Brad. We willget to you next. I promise anyone
else want to get in seven onethree two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five sevenninety Sean Salisbury show back in a minute.
(01:01:32):
The Sewn Salisbury Show continued. Marinershave lost six out of seven.
You got me posting my lnup forthe als. You know what, I
want to apologize in City Houston. But wipp I we're flipping on the Astros
in a week, dude, If freaking week. I freaking Oh.
(01:01:54):
I've said ten games, like onlast Tuesday. Ten that's a twenty game
swing, exactly, you were However, many games you're like thirteen over or
whatever. Twenty game swing to getthe first place is now down to nine
game swing with help from the Mariners. What's it four and a half now?
Four and a half now? AndI like run differential to get kind
(01:02:15):
of give you a picture for aseason long for example, like best run
differential Baltimore Orioles a plus one oheight. It usually matches up to how
good you are usually and so Astro'snow a plus twenty four on the season,
Mariners just a plus eight. Howabout the Oakland A's minus one o
three. My god, they're terrible. They can't wait to get that back.
Guest, Astros run differentials go.If you're run differential, it's going
(01:02:37):
up. That usually means you're winningsome games. Well, a month ago
it was different, right, andthey were in the minus category. Yeah,
I mean to two weeks ago probably, But that thing has just gone
haywire. And like I said, the end and the Mariners are cooperating,
which is nice, but they're playinggood baseball. You're getting great pitching right
now, and Dana Brown's coming onhere at nine thirty. And in truth,
a lot of times i'm you know, you're peppering with questions that are
(01:02:59):
probably you don't almost feel back. You have to ask the hard questions.
We do the same thing. Weget Joe spoted Tuesday twelve thirty on The
Matt Thomas Show, and you're like, I don't even want to ask Joe
this, but here we go,Joe, Uh, why did you do
whatever you want? Right? Butnow it's like, Hey, I'm thinking
today, that's exactly right. We'regonna be whistling and having fun and the
(01:03:20):
whole thing and partying. He's gonnabe shooting, singing some shaboozi. There's
no doubt. But I'll bet youhe'll still be, you know, guarded
about not guarded in his interview, but but tred lightly over. It's still
a long season and it is nodoubt it is. This team could go
and lose three in a row outof nowhere. That's been the story of
the twenty twenty four Houston Astros. All right, coupley all on the phone,
so let's get after it. Sevenone three two one two five seven
(01:03:40):
ninety Brad on the northwest side, appreciate you waiting patiently. What's up,
Brad? Hey, real quick,I agree with the lineup. The only
thing is I would start Berland ornumber one game just because you if you
need him in game seven and theACL has to make it, go ahead
and make it. He got thatlittle head for us, and you can
bring me for that one or twoinnings real quick, just when you take
(01:04:01):
history, don't repeat itself. Ilove Bobby Petrino. We got it in
baseball now in college. The onlything was missing was the letter they say,
I'm out of here, bye guys, and never see him again.
I don't blame him going to getthe bag. However, you want to
talk about tampering could night. SoI don't want to ever hear anybody else
(01:04:21):
in NIL that they're tampering. They'retampering. This stuff was done apparently what
I'm reading in the Georgia series. So you know, say what you want,
say what you did. Now,if I'm Billy Lucci, I cut
my reporter loose on him twenty fourto seven. Every time they're at a
Bluebell Park, every time they playhim up there, he goes and sit
(01:04:45):
in a press conference and ask thequestion about do you feel you feel like
it's you know, how do youfeel that you lied to everybody in public
that I would cut him loose,I'd get in his kitchen. I'd write
him like a John Deer, I'llhang up at listen, all right,
thanks a lot, Brett. Yeah, I mean, that's just the thing
we've been talking about. Everything. On its face, it happens now.
(01:05:06):
Of course, there's the extra wrinklethat it's going from Texas a and in
to Texas bitter rivals, all thattype of stuff. And well, as
I put on Twitter, tough dayfor the for the Aggie fans that try
to try to call the long Hornstheir little brother Well, I guess if
you want to say that little brotherstook just to stole your baseball coach.
But it's the way he went aboutit. There are certain ways to handle
(01:05:27):
yourself, and you could you canavoid the question. You could just say,
you know what, I don't wantto talk about that right now.
But the balls the balls on youto say you need to apologize for asking
me that question. And yeah,I wonder what the relationship would be going
forward with that reporter. Listen, when you make your bed, you got
(01:05:47):
to sleep, you Rob Peter,he's got to pay Paul now, listen,
he's nobody's denying how good he is. And what to get. This
is for the for the Longhorns, and what a bummer it is for A
and M. But the fact ofthe matter is, when you position yourself,
he painted himself into this corner.Yeah, how about do you think
he apologizes today and his Texas pressure. I don't know if he makes an
(01:06:09):
apology out loud to everybody, butI'm I think I think he should agreed,
agreed that he maybe he could havehandled the situation. And before anything,
guys, I say, I'm sorry. I was emotional. We had
just lost the final I wasn't ina good head space and I want to
apologize for the way I conducted myself. And then I agree that he should.
(01:06:29):
Now maybe he contacts report and thenyou know what's truth. It's no
sign of weakness to admit a mistake. Matter of fact, I think it's
a sign of strength. YEA.And to sit up there and say,
listen, I'm happy to be here, loved my time at A and M.
And to that young reporter who askedme this question, and I apologize.
You guys want to handle it,but you deserve better than the way
I handled it. And you knowwhat, instacratic respect comes, right back,
(01:06:51):
I would think, So you don'tneed to hide that you made a
mistake because we all know because nowthey're gonna Is there anybody on the planet
going you know what? I thinkJim was in the right on this.
Even if you're a lonehorn lover, like right I am, in respect,
you cannot There's no question. Youcannot sit there. You can defend the
fact that he's now the manager atTexas, but you can't defend the fact
(01:07:13):
that the kid was doing his job. Listen, that could That's a question
that some of the best, mostof the best in the world should and
would have asked. Right, hedid. He's and it tells me the
kid's gonna got a good future aheadof him. The reporter and does a
nice job. So, but Idon't know enough about him, But I
know a lot of young reporters whoare scared to ask those That's what I'm
(01:07:34):
saying. She's got balls enough todo it, because you're saying a loss.
It's easier to ask a guy atougher question when they're winning and happy
and giddy than coming off a lossin the final game of World Series.
So I uh, in a championshipand national title. So yeah, I
think if if Jim wants to takeit to the next level, he could
save a lot on a on aforty five to sixty second comet and move
(01:07:58):
on. I'm with you one hundredpercent, that would be the thing to
do. And I think everybody say, Okay, we understand the emotion of
what what was going through the othernight. Now you still pulled the old
o. Yeah, but here yougo. So and Trev Alberts find himself
a new baseball coach. Yeah,It's just it's a mess of a situation.
And I think if if this wouldhave happened anywhere, it would have
(01:08:24):
been a story. But to happento the Aggie fans and having them go,
having him go from college station toAustin, it's just like I said
earlier, that's not salt in thewound, that's sulphuric acid in the loop
in the wound. You are youare making it ten times worse. But
he's leaving his family going to thejob he's always wanted. I left it.
(01:08:45):
But you did notice though in theanswer he never said no, oh,
you never said I'm not going totext agreed that party. That party
was right been funny though he mightas well have Oh there's no I'm an
aggie for Live gig hm. Butbut so the job and upgrade for Texas
even though their manager was good,I mean their coach was good as well.
But three World Series, three yearsand you're out. Yeah, it's
(01:09:10):
tough sled man. Yeah, well, at least he's got He had two
years left on his deal, sogetting somebody else will hire him. He'll
be hanging out with Jose of Brayand k't kun guys with their cash.
If you're gonna lose, you mightas well lose rich might as well.
All right, time for a quickbreak. Here is Seawn Salisbury Show.
CuPy, all on hold, wewill get to you next. We're talking
some stros. We got Dana Browncoming up at nine thirty. We got
(01:09:31):
you at seven one three two onetwo five seven ninety seven one three two
one two five seven Night The JohnSalisbury Show continues. No, it slaps
whatever you're into. Yeah, Ithink slaps, don't you. I think
it can slap. That's your boozy? Is that one of the big hits?
(01:09:53):
His big hit? Yes? Likeit? When's it? When's he
dropping another one? I don't tonightI don't know. It's feeling a little
a one hit wondersh But I don'tknow. You're going to Dolby Gray on
his asse. Come on, man, there you go. But that's all
right, good good stuff with shaboozythere on a what'd you say? It's
(01:10:13):
a country in Western Wednesday? Yeah? We do before Westernay, Yeah we
Western Wednesday. Normally. Give meyour favorite group, favorite country, country
group. I'm actually not a bigcountry I'll go with Welden Hintson, a
good friend of mine. He's heworks in Austin. Is he is he
a longhorn? Nim It's Nimitz gradright, Hi, nim It's high school?
(01:10:39):
Go Cougar's weld and Hintson two stepand Tuesdays The Broken Spoke in Austin.
What's up? You want to?You want to cut? That's my
You know what? We could playsome Weldon Hintson. There you go,
get you one, all right,I'll find you one of his hits that
I like. We'll have to playsome of that, and you know what
I'll tell I'll send him the clip. That'll be cool. There you go.
But I would say, I meanI like a few country songs.
(01:10:59):
My favorite country song is probably NeonMoonnesse Whiskey is a jam. Yeah,
if you were going to say, like you were going to say, there's
a lad at the end of alittle bit, I was going to kick
you out school. I'll go Patsyklin on you now that. Now,
now we're talking legendary. Anytime yougot the L word in front of you,
(01:11:19):
the legendary status all in Patsy crimes. Uh. And you know,
you know when you know a guy'sa country singers crushed, it is when
other country singers are mentioned you andtheir names like in their song, like
they're going on and they're saying,oh, hank. You know they're throwing
bosifas in their song or a hankor they throw you know, King George
(01:11:40):
in there. When you hear somebodyelse's name mentioned in their cut, that
means they've arrived. That's like beinga consultant business. When you got the
consulting label, you're either unemployed oryou've been a CEO before right nowhere in
Betwey, right, That's how I'mprobably an old soul when it comes to
music, and the old Stuffy's bestever. Yeah, I'll go back.
I'm with you, I'm like sixties. I'll even get it. I'll go
(01:12:01):
fifties. I'm when it comes tomusic, Well, I'm an old soul,
but I'm old anyway. But Istill that's the that era of the
sixties seventies leaking into the eighties. That's the best music asked, no doubt,
peak heroin and uh in, marijuanaand cocaine music. Yeah, peak
mullet too. Yeah, there's nodoubt you're no. Ron Duke is right.
(01:12:26):
Yeah, that that was. Thatwas. I mean when you're there's
legend after legend after legend, andthat I'll go Patsy Klein one Shaboozy too.
That's where I am right now.Don't hate you for it. Now
there's a there's a bunch of countryWestern stars saying, you actually leapfrogged me
with Chaboozi. But hey, we'regonna we're gonna put more respect on Shaboozy.
The slap, Yeah, that doesslap. That cut, slap that
(01:12:46):
cut definitely slaps Mike and Humble. Thanks for holding what's up? Oh not
much, guys? What's up?Would Tucker? And uh? How and
Barlin or how they doing? Uh? And all I can say is pokem
Horns and uh A good move forthe Aggies would be the hard David Peers.
(01:13:10):
That would be hilarious. Would thatnot be the ultimate? That would
be And my guy, Trev Alberts, who I know he was. I
worked with him when it did televisionESPN. He was a great college football
analyst and fiery opinion and the restof it. You know, Nebraska guy,
I'm going to tell you that he'sthe type of guy. Trev knows
how to get you uh uh firedup. And I mean that, I
(01:13:32):
mean that in a good way.He knows how to move the needle that
way. It would be a Itwould be a good dig for him to
say, you know what, comeon over here, you went the three,
Come on and let's see if wecan win one at the extra and
then beat them in the series. Can you imagine, okay, could you
imagine Texas A and M College WorldSeries Final series David Peers v Jim Schwash
(01:13:53):
right? Could you? And thenA and M was and that that would
be talk about on edge every pit. That would be pretty funny. And
then as far as he asked fora Verlander update, we spoke with Joe
spot on the Matt Thomas Show yesterday, Joe Spota. Unfortunately, he had
some discouraging news, saying that he'snot healing as fast as they'd like,
(01:14:17):
he is not throwing yet, talkingabout Justin Verlander and then Kyle Tucker.
The update yesterday was that he's hittingoff of a tee but not really doing
much baseball activity other than that, which is I mean, pretty insane considering
they continue to say no bone orstructural damage. Yeah, which that's a
serious, serious that's more than acontusion. In my mind, does that
(01:14:39):
make sense? A contusion cheapens Itmakes it seem like, come on,
man, what do you got abruise? This is obviously a lot deeper
for a guy who's very very hedoes field, he needs to be running
around, no doubt. And youknow, fouling it off that front leg
as a left hand, that's thatthat putting that foot in the ground,
and the pressure you apply, youknow what I'm saying, when you pick
it up and put it down,it's it's going to be painful. And
(01:15:01):
I would imagine all those things. And now, fortunately for him, his
lead leg when he throws is hisleft leg right, so the recovery,
but you know you're running to yourlead leg when you crall hop you're leading
with the lead leg his lead leg. I'm assuming it's the right chin.
I mean, unless I've missed something, believe right chin, because it usually
doesn't foul back to the left shinright. No, it was off of
(01:15:23):
his left and it was right.Oh yeah, I'm sorry. Yeah,
he's left handed. It's off hisright shin right. He did it like
I think it was a Saturday andlike a Monday. He hid in the
same spot twice and I think that'swhen he was out there. You go,
thank goodness, and imagine if itwas hell. I wonder if it
was a little like a fracture,a little chip, if he wouldn't be
back faster than the deep the deeppart of the bone bruise. Right.
(01:15:44):
I don't know what that's being said. It's obviously when you're out that long
on a on a bruise, it'sthat that's about as deep as a bruise
will get. So but you're rightwith the news wondering, well where are
we going with this? And thatnews isn't what they want to hear.
But you're fortunate right now you don'thave to rush either of them, because
you're getting good pitching performances and thehitting is ass lit up. So now
(01:16:06):
that doesn't mean they're better without eitherof them, because they are better with
both of them. So I guessthat's as good as news as we can
give you because in truth, andI'll ask Dane Brown the same. If
they've moved forward in the last coupleof days. But when they're day to
day and doing this, I wouldn'texpect them back in the next week.
I doubt either one is going tobe pitching or doing there. We know
that Vernighter's not pitching in New York, and it appears since he's not doing
(01:16:28):
any baseball stuff that Kyle Tucker won'tbe playing on that road at least at
the first part of that road trip. It did. They said yesterday quote,
could start running within the next fewdays. End quote. There you
go. So he's not even running, right, So you're not going to
see them too in the next Well, I can't imagine in the next week
you're going to see either one ofthem. I would guess the same.
All right, let's get Brian andKatie real quick. What's up Brian,
Hey, good morning, guys.I just wanted to get with y'all real
(01:16:53):
quick and pose the question, youknow, what is Astro's baseball at this
point? My guys, what arewe? What do we have here?
You got the Yankees at the topof their stack, You got the Indians
at the top of their stack. You don't hear about near half as much
(01:17:15):
as what you hear about injuries wiseon this team. And this team is
like, hold my beer and watchthis like they did when they clinched against
Arizona. Oh, you just needme to go win, win it out.
Okay, I'll do that. Butit's like we needed extra sixty games
of spring training. Then it's likehere's another injury, here's an okay,
(01:17:35):
well we can handle that. Andit's just like, of course they got
to sustain this and keep going,of course. But it's like Tucker goes
out, Okay, what's next,Burlander, It's like, oh my god.
And then here comes Jake bloss rightout of nowhere, double a.
Oh, let's give him the Imean, it's just amazing and confusing as
hell at the same time. Whatthis team? What does city continues to
(01:18:00):
pump out uh after one uh,you know, after another adversity after another,
and it's I don't see any otherteam in this league or you know,
baseball at all, just capable ofdoing what the Astros tend to do.
And if they stay on this track, my god, I'm I'm,
I'm, I'm, I'm, I'mscared for the other teams that we have
(01:18:23):
a whole lineup practically on the onthe injured list right now of a listers
we're doing this week. Yeah, yeah, thanks, Brian, I'm sorry
we got hit the top of thehour man. We gotta uh, we
gotta get you out, but appreciateyou getting in. And yeah, we
will talk about that when we comeback. As far as the injuries and
who are the real Houston Astros ournumber three of the Sewan Salisbury Show,
(01:18:48):
we will start off talking about that. We'll get to those of you on
the phones. I promise you wantto get in. We do have a
couple of lines open at seven, one, three, five, seven ninety
Dana Brown coming up at n I'mthirty hour number three of Shawn Salisbury Show.

(01:19:38):
let's do this. Sean Salisbury thereto usc trous longtime friend, Shawn
Salisbury, Ryan l Lima, goLobos. This is the Sean Salisbury Show.
You don't have an extra cash orhit the uber, hit the turn
the uber light on. When Iget off at ten, there you go,
(01:19:58):
look a few, a couple extrabucks if you want to, you
know, take on a new hobby. I could be doing another job.
You could full time ten to six. And most people aren't opening their businesses
to tay this building hiring. Whatare they doing over there? They're rolling
in about nine thirty. I'll flipyou some burgers in the deli right here.
I listen, Hey, I've gottoo proud to beg and I'm sure,
(01:20:19):
I'm sure. Hell it ain't nothing. I ain't above idiot, but
I'm good man. Yeah, popoff at ten o'clock. Off the air
at ten o'clock, you'd go dowhat you want, sure your golf game.
Uh, that's what I used todo. So I did the morning
show for a little bit. RosVy Rail Sean Salisbury got Dana Brown coming
up at nine thirty here, hournumber three of the Sean Salisbury Show.
(01:20:39):
When they moved Matt Thomas to themornings with NFL dot COM's Lanceserline, I
moved to the morning as a producer, and I was off at twelve every
day, I'm like, what amI gonna do with my day? I
started hitting. I was hitting ballsevery day every day. And that's when
I was first playing, and Iwas only trying to break a hundred.
Like I wasn't very good at all, but you gotta play. I was
getting good. I didn't have anythingelse to do. It was like,
(01:21:00):
okay, I have a monthly membershipto this, to a driving range.
It's a flat feet I'm talking toas much as I want. Yeah,
And that's what I was doing.I've become back. I used to be
like really obsessed about golf. That'swhen I got addicted. Agreed, and
then I took I took years offbecause playing once playing in a tournament once
(01:21:20):
a year with your buddies. It'snot I don't I don't have the DNA
and me to play once a yearand go out and shoot ninety and love
it. Yeah, it's frustration. It's it's like the all the demons pop
out. He's like, take itout on the golf course. Right,
It's like no, no, I'mtalking about no oh oh. When you
(01:21:42):
initially first place at the beginning, like the ball doesn't move, you're supposed
to be able to hit it square. But when you're not playing but you
think you're supposed to be good atit, it was maddening to me.
Right because I didn't start playing golftill I got to college. That's a
that wasn't that's that's not a sportthat your parents need to go spend two
hundred bucks on a round of golfwhen you're not where your parents are grinded
for work. Did have that luxury, right, So when I finally started
(01:22:05):
playing, then I took damn nearfelt like a decade off. Or I
was just playing once year and sometimestwo years ago. I didn't pick up
a golf club for a lot ofdifferent reasons. Well, and now about
the last six months knees healthy kneereplacement shul and I started grinding it.
And now I'm to the point joinedthe golf club and I am to the
point where when I'm not doing it, I put a putting green in my
(01:22:27):
back. I'm putting. I'm workingon with no club in my hands.
Swing all this stuff. Hire aswing coach, all this stuff. Recently,
I hired one about a week anda half. Two weeks so I've
been going through one and I gotthe one that I want now, and
I'm grinding my ass off and theobsession and addiction to it. Yes,
I have every shot. I'm literallyso I'm playing and grinding and grinding and
(01:22:50):
grinding and work a great game andlistening to guys. And when you're going
through a little bit of a swingchange like I am to in the last
two weeks, I'm balls are it'sit's about it? Well, yeah,
and you are? You wake upand start you know, every move and
people are line like Starbucks, Yeah, how's my preshot routine? Exactly?
(01:23:14):
And grinding so to the point whereit's like it's maddening. And then when
you're going through the swing change,it's tough because you're you're trying to work
it different, and you're all thesethings, and I'm excited about it.
But dude, I I I shouldlive at PJ Tour Superstore because I'm there
three days a week. It's endlesslyfrustrating and like you said, addictive.
But when you hit oh my god, yes, and you say, man,
(01:23:40):
I want this ball to go,you know, perfect on the suite
spot five feet from the cup, right, it's the best feeling in the
world. And when you play withgood players. My guy bub out there,
who I with, you'll know,but I mean he's good, Danny.
These guys know how to play, and they're they're you know, when
they're talking, they say, yeah, man, Sean just said right there
that it's a it's a false fake, false front. So you want to
(01:24:00):
get to the back part. I'mthinking, listen, dude, I'm just
trying to hit that green and thenhave the putter in my hand. Well,
these guys are dialed in where there'slike scratch over. My buddy John
Keating and his brother Michael R.They hit it where they want to hit
it, And I want to getto the point where I hit it where
I want to you know what,I'm saying, yeah, I know my
rate. Get in the general directionshort grass where there you want to come
(01:24:25):
in from the right side, sohit it on the right side there,
I say, out of your friggingmind, yeah, I want to keep
it right. So that's back tothe grind of relearning the game. But
I'm a dig like you. Everywhen I leave here, usually at some
point, even if it's hitting balls, are practicing putting, I'm going to
do something. Yeah, I missit. I miss I just don't have
I have to get up when I'mon twelve to three with Matt. I
(01:24:46):
either have to get up at likesix a m. Right or do it
in the afternoons. And it's justnot so it's been really about the last
month hiring somebody new to Yeah that'sa fact. Yeah, from golf clothing
to golf, Like you said, instructions and lessons and hitting balls. And
it is an expensive to be goodtoo, if you want to be good,
(01:25:09):
and if you take time off,it's like you cannot let the dust
settle on those You've got to keepplaying. These guys that have great swings,
like the guys I play with whoI'm not them. It's like you
guys, I need to be whoyou are. So to my fellows out
there, I'm grinding to get better. So all right, seven one three
two one two five seven ninety thephone number seven one three two one two
(01:25:29):
five seven night. Yeah. Iwish I had more time for it,
but unfortunately I don't. Sean Salisburyshowed nine thirty Dana Brown coming up.
Let's go to John holding Longest onthe phones. What's up John? Hey,
good morning, guys. What's up? So? Uh Hey, Sean,
we're gonna have to start firing upthe Bad, Bad Hunter Brown song
again? After you ready for that? Yeah? Heat, matter of fact,
(01:25:49):
he made he did. He deservesit more now than at any time
he's been pitched. He's been onfire. Definitely. Hey, there's a
rumor that I really like hearing.I sent this to you on X I
saw it. Yeah, it's gettinguh Terrek scooball from Detroit and the Astions
send over outfield fielder Jacob Melton, shortstop Bryce Matthews, right handed pitcher Jose
(01:26:14):
Fleury, and outfielder Calling Barber.I would love to see that happen because
school ball, you know, he'sleft handed as well, and I think
boy, that would be fantastic ifwe could pull that off. But I
just wanted to I just want tocall in a comment on that. I
I yeah when I saw it,and I like that trade rumor, didn't
you, John? I like it? Oh yeah, I loved it.
(01:26:35):
I thought, Man, this isexactly what they need. That could that
could carry us home, That reallycould. I would love to see it
happen. I know Dana can't commenton it, but I mean, that
is a great rumor that I likeseeing floating around. So, brother,
yeah, I'm with you. Thanksfor the call, brother, and thanks
for sharing that on X yesterday onTwitter reported by anybody? Or was it
(01:26:57):
a I think he said the nameof who reported? I can't remember who.
John said it to me, andit's a it's I don't know if
it's gonna be the name, butI can tell you this, Melton,
none of these guys are necessary.I don't know. I don't know if
it's going to be that guy fromDetroit, but I can tell you this,
that guy can play. Yeah.Yeah, he's really good. And
(01:27:17):
and the other side of it is, well, he got his ERA over
two recently. He sucks now, yeah, I was, but he's been
so dominant. And when I saydominant, he has been dominant this whole
year. So that guy can playand pitch. He's really good. But
the other side of it is,it's gonna be. It's gonna be somebody,
just don't know which one. Andyou also remember when we're talking about
trade that you got to it's notlike free agency, where's it's a one
(01:27:38):
way street where you're just dealing withthe player. Now you're dealing with the
other team and what they're gonna wantto fleece you for when they know that
you need somebody. Yeah, I'mpulling it up. Trek Scouble is he's
under control team control for which isanother key element. You're not right it
is. I would imagine that feelslike a pipe drink. Well, I
also think that you're gonna have it'sgood. I think there is going to
(01:28:00):
be a line for that trade ifif he's available. Yeah, I don't
know if you've got the if yougot the facilities for that big man.
As they say, I don't knowif they can keep it in the bidding
war for Terrek Schooble, I don'tknow if the Astros can keep up.
And the longer the more teams thatare desperate, and the more teams are
willing to give up stuff, especiallywhen you're gonna get control of the guy
for a couple of years. Yeah, Tiger's thirty seven and forty two right
(01:28:21):
now, I would be shocked atthis point if if that deal with mature,
I would imagine aj Hinch knows howimportant pitching is, right, hey,
he knows a little something about baseball, right, All right, we're
gonna take a quick break here acouple of all in hold. I promise
will get to you as well.As Sean said, we got Dana Brown
coming up at nine thirty. Youwant to get in seven one three,
(01:28:41):
two, one two five, sevenninety. We've been talking about the Astros
and the win last night against theColorado Rockies, six wins in a row,
four and a half games back ofthe Seattle Mariners. NBA Draft is
tonight. The Rockets made a superconfusing trade with the Nets with some kind
of pick swaps and stuff. Idon't know what's going on, but sounds
(01:29:01):
like they are targeting Kevin Durant orwill they pick at number three. We'll
talk about that as well, andalso Jim SLOs Nagel moving on from the
Texas A and m Aggie's He's goingwest, folks to the forty Acres in
Austin. He is now the TexasLonghorns coach. After saying you need to
apologize for asking me that question. We'll talk about that as well and anything
(01:29:24):
else you want to get to itsseven one three two one two five seven
ninety seven one three two one twofive seven nine. Country Boys Roofing locally
owned an operated company. They're notstormchasers. Listen, Locally owned and operated
matters. It just does. Andwe are in storm season and you know
they're not going away. And ifit lives up to what people are predicting,
(01:29:45):
it could be a bad one. We've already seen parts of it.
So you need a good roofer andsomebody who cares. That is a certaintied
and GAF Shingle certified, Texas WindstormCertified. My guy's at Country Boys Roofing,
led by John love them and they'rethey're making things happen for you.
Most of their work has been donein the past south of town. But
guess what, all the way fromGalveston, all the way to go anywhere
(01:30:10):
in the Greater Houston area because theywant to do it for you, because
they understand the importance. They'll helpyou navigate insurance claims. There's no job
too small, and there's no jobtoo big. Country Boy's Roofing. It
starts with a K and ends witha Z. Country Boy's Roofing again,
family owned and operated. And ifyou go in there and need them,
a thousand dollars discount when you mentionedmy name. Now think about it.
(01:30:32):
Not two fifty off, not twopercent off, one thousand dollars off.
It's a discount when you mentioned myname. When you use Country Boys Roofing,
pop on in it's eight three twoseven three one fifty six twenty.
Nobody ever wants this to happen, but it does. Be prepared and if
you're prepared, you have no fear. Eight three two seven three one fifty
(01:30:53):
six twenty eight three two seven threeone fifty six twenty. It's Country Boys
Roofing. One thousand dollars off whenyou mentioned my name. That's the discount.
One thousand dollars off. Country BoysRoofing LLC dot com. The Sewn
Salisbury Show continues, and you knownow you know, hey, Ross,
(01:31:15):
you know we always when we askpeople like are you all in on a
team? Were you all in onthe they were done? No? I
wasn't all in and they were done. It was a gut feeling. It's
not a second is that feeling good? I'm not feeling great. So at
that point last week, you ifI said five grand bet that they make
the playoffs, you would have saidno, no, thank you. Okay,
I would have said five grand. If you gave me five free grand
to bet whether or not they makeit, I would have said that they
(01:31:36):
don't. They still meet on theleft on the bone. There's no,
They're not in the playoffs right now. So I'm asking you now a week
later, five grand, which andyou have to bet it. You have
to bet it one way or theother. It's your money, and it's
not somebody else's money. It's yourmoney. You got to bet five grand
all on. It's either one orthe other. They do or they don't.
I would feel much. I probablywould lean yes, but I still
(01:31:57):
have concerns. Who's their fifth starterright now? We have to find this
out from Dan Brown coming up atnine thirty? Who is I mean,
when is Kyle Tucker coming? Iscoming back? Are they going to address
the first base issue, like wetalked about, you projected, we did
the we did the stakeout last hour, and I'm with you. I think
it's got to be somebody else ifthey are going to contend. If you're
a World Series team out, ifyou're a World Series you're a playoff team
(01:32:19):
without addressing first base. But areyou a World Series team without dread addressing
the goal for the Astros playoffs? You're thinking world's here, Jim Crane asked
Jim Crane. He will tell you, yes, that's the goal. That's
who they've that that's who they've becomeexactly. So if I had to bet
now, I probably would say, yes, what a difference of a week
makes? Yeah, you know, for me five thousand just to get into
(01:32:43):
the playoffs Wild Carter Division winner,I'm betting I would put the five thousand
on that they would make it.Yes, I got reservations. But winning
six in a row just you're notquite planning the parade just yet. No,
I don't think so. In Fullsherdowntown full Shire, his downtown ding
right, there's a little construction goingon, but hey, the roads they're
(01:33:03):
trying to wide the road they're lookinggood. Yeah, but all right to
my guys, like I said, five and below walking there and their families
in there said yes, Sean,I'm with you. Let's have the parade
here. So, uh, thankyou to that great family. And yes,
we're going to work to get theparade route. I don't know how
it's going to go from downtown thirtyfive sixty three. Plenty of time to
(01:33:25):
play. There you go, thereyou go, Uh, get into the
logistics. Seven one three, sevenninety. Paul sugar Land holding longest.
What's up, Paul? How youguys doing today? You're talking about golf
before and I'm finally going to getto play after about three years and reaching
back surgery, and I'm really afraidof what my swinging and my striking the
(01:33:47):
ball will look like. So well, I hope, I hope it comes
clean. At least it'll teach youtempo right coming back, knowing that temple
will help so you don't overswing, which is a problem, right, not
not all of us can be Bryceand d Chambeau. But well, I
hope it works. That back's healthyenough, my man, I do well,
thank you, thank you. It'sit's it's getting there. About Slasnago.
(01:34:08):
The other night I was going tocall and during the playoffs I saw
some of the coaches interviewed, andtwo of the classiest coaches I've ever seen
were the Oregon coach and the Kentuckycoach. They had nothing but praise Ray
and them the fans the twelfth Man, I mean, they were they were
(01:34:31):
just super. So I think thosetwo guys are some pretty good candidates to
to look at if you want, you know, people who you think will
treat the program right. You know, they are good baseball coaches also if
they can, if they want tocome, because they were really classy and
(01:34:53):
you know the deal without leaving thefamily. I understand the coaches divorced and
he has two young adult children,so that really leaving a family. You
know, you'll have to ask himbecause the story may change, But there
you go. I'm just kidding.I had to leave my whole family.
(01:35:15):
I Am not thinking about any otherjob. What did he say again at
some point, the job that hewants for the for the rest of his
life. This was his last Thiswas his last stop. Unfortunately, the
cut that we have doesn't have thebest part is what he's like. You
should be embarrassed. I will haveto find well, you know what,
next segment, we'll get the extendedcut, we'll get the deep cut.
So the album missed is not married, but he lost divorced. Okay,
(01:35:39):
when he talked about leaving his family, that's literally two hours away. My
first thing got thinking, there's eightkids rolling around, grown ups, grandkids,
and mama's at the house. Yeah, I don't know. Left the
dogs. I don't know. That'stough because I won't leave min it either.
Take them with you. You're makingit up family. I didn't know
you were barno. Dude. Iam a barn dominium fanatic and I'm I
(01:36:02):
spend. I told you golf ismy obsession. My next obsession is barn
dominiums. And like the exterior andinterior design and how you design the lawn
and where my putting green would goif I You know, these are just
thoughts. You have the big dreamthoughts, right, we all have them,
right whether whatever it is sixty fiveand so is mine. So how
we get there? I want toown my own golf. You don't where
(01:36:25):
you walk out your backyard. Youhave eighteen holes. You had that coup
would it be great though, youhad to have that kind of money where
guy says, yeah, I gotforty members at my golf course and it's
good. You gotta go in theframe. Barndoll. No, okay,
single story Barndoll. Okay, Idon't know loss and stuff. I'm trying
to know what I'm talking about.I'm just googling, did I do like
and I I'm picturing like what thatpool like the what the plunge pool looks
(01:36:45):
like in the back of the punchwhen you win power Ball and a billion
dollars. Yeah, I've already I'mdesigning every day my barndo on like Ive
Acres. Oh in the back wherethe bunkers are? You work on your
game in the back of the property. Oh, come on, well with
the massagers in the in the inthe all those Yeah, I'm not talking
about even real figure tips. Soyeah, you actually can hire somebody to
(01:37:12):
massage you. I guess if you'remaking a billion dollars, I'm sure built
in massagere But I like, likea plunge pool, you know, the
cold pool you those are like rejuvenationfor your golf call Frosco for the nervous
system A little playing the property.I like that fun garden. You start
raking it up coy pond. Idon't know, Yeah, yeah, but
(01:37:36):
I am I'm obsessed with Barnum. What are you doing today? I'm buying
some coy fish. Yeah, butI am accepted with Barnes and like fish.
How does that go? Zero?I like toy fish ponds, but
I wouldn't know how to how youwould you got to feed them. I'm
not quite sure what that is yet. I don't know. We'll figure well,
you know, we'll get to thebottom of that by the end of
the show. You have my word. There you go. Let's get real
(01:37:57):
quick. Biscuit in age town. What's up, Biscuit? Hey? Top
of the morning, My brothers, what's up? What's up? Hey?
Hey? Man? Before I getto the NBA draft, Shane Yah,
Lee, you mean to tell me? A and M was like, what
a couple of innings away from winningthe World Series and the coach leaves and
goes to Texas. Yeah, how'sthat for a slap in the face?
My man? Wow? Never mindthe press conference, Like you say,
(01:38:21):
Man, I don't know why dudeseven get up there. Why are you
just gonna say no? Comment orso man, Yeah, what does he
mean the things you tell your playersto say? Like exactly and move on
right. I want to talk aboutthe game and my and my current teammates
are players. Yeah, no doubt, odd, no doubt. Man for
the Rockets, man, and I'mseeing they making all these shine don't do
(01:38:44):
it, Fielman, don't do it. You are you willing to part with?
Like? Are you willing to partwith like? Jayleen? I know
how much you said be patient,he's young, the young fellas. You've
been preaching that biscuit for a coupleof years on here. And you know
when you talk about Shon and JalenGreen, are you willing to part with
these guys for a thirty five yearold kd No, no, man,
(01:39:06):
why I mean shy they killed meour team, dude, that the Lakers
even did it? Shine? Yes, he spent all these years in the
lottery. You get these assets. The guys are going through the growing page
and the minute, the minute theystart turning the corner, you want to
ship them out? Yeah, youtrain them and somebody else reaped the benefit,
right, biscuit, You train him, somebody else reaps the benefit.
(01:39:28):
That don't make sense. Man,don't do it, man, KD.
No, don't do it. Juststick to the script. Man. I
can see bringing in another veteran, you know, maybe, but not now.
I'm not giving up none of thoseguys. Man. If you want
to say some draft picks, maybe, but I'm not giving up none of
us, sing Goo gen with moreEaston, I'm not giving up none of
(01:39:49):
those Duce with KD do I'm sorry, all right, thanks a lot,
biscuit, are you No? No, I would say he's he is too
far past his prime prime Kevin Durant, I would say yes, in a
heartbeat, thank you, because nodoubt, but he's not winning a championship
by himself as the number one,and he is at all And because you're
(01:40:10):
gonna get rid of some real keypieces, if you're gonna go get him
at fifty minis, I want somebodythat is more. To me. He's
almost like the tip of the spearof an offensive attack in a way that
if you need somebody as a weaponthat can break somebody down one on one,
and he's gonna jab step at theelbow and throw up a bunch of
jumpers, that's fine. I'd ratherhave somebody who is going to be a
(01:40:32):
distributor, the engine of the offense. So somebody that you build around rather
than he is the end result ofthat. Does that make sense? Like
Luca Jimmy, would you rather havehimor Jimmy Butler? I think there's this
stage, with this current time,I would say offensively, they're similar,
but also Jimmy Butler's better defensively atthis point, so I would rather say
Jimmy or too. Yeah, soI would say Jimmy Butler. But I
(01:40:54):
like a Luka Doncica, Nikola jokicchis somebody who can you know, guys
we can't get. I know whatyou're saying, right exactly that guys who
can ball the distribute you can thatyou can run action starting with them,
and it doesn't always end with them. They're gonna get guys open, They're
gonna find guys, they're gonna bethat. Kevin Durant to me, is
just he's a peer score. He'sone of the greatest peer scores of all
(01:41:15):
time, and he'll get his andhe still gives you twenty eight. Absolutely,
I think he was like twenty sevenand he did last year. He
ripped his achilles and he's a freakoh of nature. There's no doubt he
ripped his achilles and he's still outthere at age thirty five, thirty six,
whatever, he is dropping twenty sevenat night. It's in. There's
no doubt. If you know he'llyou want to shoot the basketball and score,
(01:41:35):
he'll score for you. The questionis probably a defensive liability at this
stage. And I don't mean todisrespect. He's still got the length.
There's no doubt. What will hiscommitment to it be at this stage?
And that's a good question. Andyou're gonna be get rid of some of
the young energy to go get him. You're not getting him for nothing.
He's still he's still Kevin Durant. There's still some flavor around Kevin Durant,
(01:41:56):
but I'm with him. I'm notmortgaging my franchise. After I've trained these
guys, and I got a goodcoach now to get him right. And
Udoka preaches defensive end and all thatto tear apart what we've trained. Now
you're gonna train. It's like thetransfer portal. Hey, I'll get you
for three years and then you're gonnago reap the benefits at some other school
and the school's gonna reap the benefitsyou'd be in a veteran quarterback. No,
but also you need star power. You need get get him in the
(01:42:19):
state. Because the Rockets are ina tough spot. And we'll talk about
this. We're gonna hit a breakthey need. I mean, look at
the teams in the finals, JaylenBrown, Jason Tatum and Luka Donchets.
Exactly. You need more than oneAll Star. You've got zero. Do
the Do the Rockets try to addressthat with the number three pick tonight?
Do they trade it? Do theymove it? Do they get Kevin Durant.
(01:42:42):
We'll talk about that when we comeback. You want to get in
on it. Seven to one threetwo one two five seven ninety seven one
three two one two five seven ninetyand out there for the Sewn Salisbury Show
continued. They're they're like rolling outthe red carpets at the George R.
Brown Convention Center tonight. Vernon Maxwell. Some Rockets legends will be out there.
(01:43:03):
Matt Thomas, I believe he willbe taking tickets and stuff like he's
one of the ushers. I believewill have him out there doing that and
it should be a good time. Are you buying into Mike. He's the
old movie theater gear. They tearyour tickets, are you? Uh,
it's not exactly. It's not thesexiest draft. No. Name wise,
(01:43:25):
there's not a lot of name recognition. There's some good players. So with
the third pick, do you believetrade down, stay there and draft or
move the pick. I believe theywant to move the pick. I don't
know that they are going to beable to. I think it depends,
uh, if a team. IfDonovan Klingon, the big man out of
Yukon, falls to three, hewas a really solid, energetic part.
(01:43:47):
I feel like, for whatever reasonthat a lot of teams, if they
see him slip, they'll maybe tryto get him. It seems like the
chalk pick just looking around at mockdrafts and trying to do a little bit
of study and stuff. Reach Shepherdthe guard. He can Kentucky exactly forty
two inch vertical uh, and hecan shoot the lights out. He's a
(01:44:09):
He's a good fit for the Rockets. I do think they want to improve.
I think that the woes rumor aboutKevin Durant going after them is real.
I think they know we were sowe were talking about going on the
prief. Yeah, but sometimes it'swho he's being as a tool, right
to put something out, to tryto put something going the other way,
So you you want to take iton his face that they're trying. But
(01:44:30):
also we always have to ask yourself, why is this leaking out? No
question. Back in the old days, it got reported because it was the
truth. Nowadays, when something getsreported, it's because the movement exactly exactly.
So as far as I I thinkif I had to guess that they
(01:44:53):
would be drafting at three and ifI had to pick of who it would
be, I would pick read Shepherd. But we'll see because some people have
read Sheper number one on their balland that dude can knock down shots good
basketball DNA, right, I meanRockets, Yes they do. Who doesn't,
right, It's almost like pitching. You gotta have guys. Yeah,
you can to much, but theRockets needed more than those three is just
(01:45:14):
not good. If he's there andavailable, it'd be hard to pass on
in my opinion. But he's ahe's and I think he's going to be
a good pro. Because you mentionedthe athleticism, Yes, he's I mean
he plays above the rim when necessary. Can attack the room, but he'll
not. And what his ability tobe able to be able to knock those
shots down that he is and whenpeople come out and play him to be
able to attack the rim as wellwith that athleticism will be an advantage for
(01:45:38):
him. Like I said, notsexy, and I do. I'm with
you. I think they do wantto move the pick, and I do
believe that Kevin Durant is something thatI think that I'd understand why Durant moves
the man alive. I don't knowif you want to mortgage your franchise for
it right now? Yeah? Theproblem? Does it equate a championship?
I think Tilman wants to get intothe playoffs. I don't think there's any
(01:46:00):
question, and they want asks inthe seats. I get it star power,
but will that star alone with whatyou're going to have to give up
to get him, be enough toget you where you want to go.
But while not sexy, sometimes nonsexy drafts end up being really good for
your team. So if they can'tmove it, you can get that guy
that's a good and Klingon's a goodplayer as well. That's the thing.
The odds are one or two ofthese guys are going to end up being
(01:46:23):
really good NBA players. It's justa question of who right. And that's
the thing. You look at liketen different big boards. You got ten
guys at number one. You gotsome guys know ross that you don't do.
There's not a true number one exactlythat it's somewhat of a weak draft,
and so maybe you're not in theworst spot. If something breaks at
three and somebody's really in love withthe player, you might be able to
move it back. You may beable to move back and gain some assets
(01:46:45):
that way. But we'll see howit plays out. We know that rafel
Stone is always willing to make adeal. He made one with the Nets.
It is extremely confusing. I couldtry to try and break this thing
down, but I read I wasstaring at my laptop last night trying to
figure out what the hell the Rocketsdid. They changed some of the swaps
with Oklahoma City or in the Nets. You've got to have a doctorate to
(01:47:10):
figure out and who fits under thisand is it just a pick to move
somewhere else, and what is thisand is it protected? Is it unprotected?
And going back to when we protectedit, the first time. It's
crazy. I'm going to read thisto you. This is from Adrian orgin
Rowski and read because I still don'tget it. Again, there we go.
Brooklyn has a deal with Houston toreturn the next Nets twenty twenty six
(01:47:31):
first round pick for a Son's twentyseven first round pick Rockets acquired. If
it ended there, we could probablyfigure that out. Rockets acquire the twenty
five right to swap theirs or OklahomaCities first for a twenty five Sons First,
I'm done. What when you usethe second half? That lost me?
(01:47:54):
I could probably sit for an hourand figure out the first two or
three sentences, But once you addedthat we're the Rockets coming to play and
moving this to that, I'm done. Yeah, And I don't know how.
I don't know how that can anybodyif you're not in like the in
the that, if you're not inthe business of making that trade or woes
who's around all time? How youdecipher what that means? Somebody just tell
(01:48:15):
me this for this and we're done, okay, I don't need to know,
and then if it fits, andwhat do we do for the cap?
But I don't know. But apparentlyit's it seems like they've moved some
of their picks back in years.I don't know, Okay, okay,
as long as the needle so sowe'll see what happened. I mean,
it depends on I think. Tome, if you're talking about floors and
(01:48:39):
ceilings with top of the draft right, to me, I think read Shepherd
has an extremely high floor. Ithink it's it'll be, it'll be.
You'll be hard pressed to miss witha Reed Shepherd. You'll be hard pressed
to miss with the Donovan Klingon. It's a matter of do they want to
swing for the fences with some ofthe higher ceiling guys like a Mantus Bozialis,
some of the wing players, theAlex Sar the uh the other guy
(01:49:01):
with the other French guy, ZacharyResaw. Shit ye. And if you're
gonna be the first pick, areare you? Are you? Is it
gonna be a superstar or is hegonna be just a guy. When you're
drafting first, you're not. You'resupposed to no matter what to hear,
if week draft or not, you'retaking number one, you're gonna be having
a lot of pressure. That's exactlyright. Absolutely okay, so what are
the Rockets gonna do? You couldtalk about it if you want to get
in seven one three, two,one two five seven ninety Will we see

for the fortieth time. We're good. Okay, question is how you doing?
You're not gonna win a chip? Are you don't come home? So?
Actually no, actually, right now, my team, we are five
(01:52:20):
and zero. Let's go we playwhere we play bracket play today. But
we are in a lightning raining playbecause there's absolutely warm minutes ass off here
in Florida because you know, theycalled the sunshine Sunshine State and never done,
you know, stop raining here duringthe summer. But Uh, yeah,
man, we're actually rolling. We'veonly given up ten rocks in five
(01:52:41):
games. So fine, know youguys stealing signs out there? What you
cannot confirm nor deny rocks. Goodmorning, by the way, Hi,
so you don't know how you dothis every day? So yeah, Ross
Ross? Did he finally realize thatman Ross has made eighty four visits to
the coffee machine? Yeah? Heput a currig in the studio right next
(01:53:03):
to your seat. Hey, Brian, are you so you're your vandido guy?
So are you telling us if thetwelve recruit you you're not gonna leave?
I mean you could be Schlasnagel ifyou want tell us you're not leaving
and then leave, I mean youcan do that. So how about that?
Huh? I mean, uh,Schlasnagel you know says he's he left
(01:53:25):
his family to take this job.I mean, I heard y'all talking about
it. But Ross, you gotto be jacked up. And Sean you
got to be sad. You're anaggie dude. Yeah, you're an age
did yell when you're fatters? Mykid went to school there, I me
my middle boy, did I mean? And yeah, I'm suffering right now,
tough. That's a shame to couldn'thappen to a night shirt on my

Alberts to go find somebody to replacehim. That's what I'm counting on,
was get you in there. No, I'd love to, but they'll whoa
whoa, whoa whoa whoa. DoctorBennett my speaking of which it was one
of the founders of the twelve. He's my one of my professors at did
my master's program. Okay, he'sbeen a guest on this show, and
(01:54:09):
Brian was very very yeah. Youknow what, Hey, listen, you
left your glove on the mountain.Maybe doctor Bennett's gonna fill your seat.
I don't know. Maybe he's intomorrow. Maybe he's into our screw the
bandidos man, that's just why straightto my weight and I'm like fifteen hours
away. Hey, because I knewyou were. Now that I know you're
listening, it's a hey, it'sa chip or bust. But you've been
(01:54:30):
good at bringing rings home, soI'll get I'm gonna give the the DDoS.
I have to call him Diidos.I'm Askingdido your Bandido. I'm counting
on a chip from you, brother. If you're not gonna be here.
You better bring back a ring.Well, we've adam, I think there
was sixty five teams in this NationalChampionship tournament. We're now in the sweet
sixteen. Uh. We got thenumber three seed for bracket play. We've
actually been playing really well all besa side. We've we've played some really
(01:54:54):
good teams and we've beat some reallygood teams, and now we play even
better teams in this uh, inthis brack. If we can ever get
it going to rain so hardy rightnow, we can't honestly, we can't
hear it. I can can you? I can't hear the rain in the
background. Normally on a phone, you'd be able to hear it. I'm
gonna say this to you too.So you took your you took the Pete
Carroll approach on one of your daysinstead of taking her to practice on an
(01:55:15):
off day. You took them tothe beach, Righte got your kids out
there on the beach, so soso having some fun of you babysitting and
what's your nights? Like, Well, you're gonna let us in or is
that you can either confirm nor deny. I'll let you in a bit.
Just a little bit. You know, we we may may have drinkn a
(01:55:36):
couple of alcoholic beverages, maybe someadult drinks. Your kids, your kids
are drowning, okay, just makingsure. Oh just you and the coach
down. You got them some seltzers. You guys are Caprice, then you
do, dude, you can't.You can't add mad Dog twenty to a
(01:55:58):
Caprice. Yeah, let's son wantsto throw at an endorsement and truly,
then then we'll do that. Butuntil then, it's f them kids.
You guys know why Mantra he didn'tlike kids. He's coaching wet half them
kids. So let me ask you, are you uh confirmed nor deny?
Is it zoidified there in the thefan base. That's what we want to
(01:56:18):
know. That's what John. Hey, John, you know how you put
your hands out and you say, whoa pump the brakes. Let's pump the
brakes here, which means they're allover the place. I'll just say this,
the culture in Florida is not bad. You can confirm that, no
doubt. I can't. I can'tconfirm that. So Ross I asked for
(01:56:41):
a chip and the guy's five andoh that that's my partner. We're five
and oh man, I'm just lettingyou. Hey, Hey, is Kevin
Durant com into the Rockets? Anybodyknow? Probably not Ross Ross, So
I think we're all kind of leanedtowards it. You don't want to.
We're not going to empty the bucketof the franchise to get Kevin Durant.
I now, maybe they will,but I wouldn't, and I don't think
(01:57:01):
Rossie would either. What does thatget you to close to fifty wins?
Yeah? And at first run thewest right right, Yeah, that's tough
sled, tough slid. And thenyeah, I wouldn't want Kevin Durant.
No, thanks? Uh hey,Ross, are you running the Matt Thomas

yeah, my uh my part tocome back. But if he doesn't come
back with the chip, Ross couldcould I will you schlops dagobat Thomas?
Hey, you know what, I'membarrassed for you for even asking me that
question. And you know I'm onman and my guy Leaves should be embarrassed
from me asking that question too.But he's got five and oh we're undefeated
with a chance at the chip sweetsixteen. There you go. All right,
(02:00:45):
let's go baby, going for thechips. Seven one, seven ninety
the phone number here into our numberfour of the Shawn Salisbury Show. You
got Dana Brown coming up at ninethirty. I'm sure it's gonna be some
good stuff coming up there. Wegot a lot of questions, what's going
on with Kyle Tucker, what's goingon with Justin Verlander? And the team?
Now on a six game win streak, Mariners have lost six out of
(02:01:08):
seven Astros just four and a halfback seven one three, two, one
two five seven ninety Gil in Hockeleyhas been holding what's up? Gil?
Go on? How are you doingto Sean? Can you just take the
job the coach of being him?No, I'm gonna pass on that one.
(02:01:29):
But I may love base I lovebaseball, but I'm not I'm not
doing great. You're great of everything. You're You're the best of everything.
You surper, You're come on,you can do it, man, you
surper. Yeah. Well it's abut he you know, every every now
and again Gil speaks out of hisass and we're not real sure where it's
coming from. But uh, butI love him. Yeah, Gil,
(02:01:53):
you know what, I'm a masterof no treade. Now well, I'm
a master of a few and thejack of no, the jack of the
jack of very few, and themaster of none. So no, I'm
gonna lead that. I'm going toleave that to the guys who actually manage
baseball. But I do love it. You're actually a master of this talk
show. I love you. Guys. Appreciate it. I love it.
(02:02:15):
I love it too. And let'shope they find a good guy at A
and M right, man, it'dbe nice. David Pierce is available.
There you go. We mentioned itearlier. We are just saying Gill always
comes on like right now, likethe hell chef for a show could come
on and he'd say, because mykid's a chef, Dylan, my older
brother, and come on and he'dsay, well, Sean, you're gonna
go be the head show. Gillalways he's got like me in four hundred
jobs, right, So there hegoes. Gi'll always good to hear from
(02:02:38):
me. Brother, appreciate it andno, But I am curious to know
would they interview Pierce? So youknow what I'm saying, Why wouldn't hear
you? Right? I don't thinkso? That would be crazy. Why
wouldn't you though? Success? Ithink they're already You're already at to a
(02:02:58):
point where you want to give youdon't want to feel exactly the Texas thing.
Yeah, I think it would feellike if Texas steals your coach and
you get It's almost like if you'regetting like somebody steals your girlfriend and then
you take their ex girlfriend that theydidn't even want to, they even want
you, You did it right. It just feels like I don't know,
(02:03:18):
but I mean, I think DavidPierce is a good coach. The best
way to karm is just to goand win somewhere else with something else,
not the old grudge of I'm goingto take their person and beat him with
their person. Yeah, now,you know, they just feel I guess
Texas people felt like he wasn't takingfull advantage of nil transfer portal at the
New Age. Maybe David Pierce alittle bit too old school. That is
(02:03:39):
fair enough. You're going to hearthat a lot from progressive you know universe.
They want to move on and attack. Listen. You may not like
it, but if you don't embraceit, yeah, you get left behind
it. They got rid of thesixty one year old, They went young
with the fifty three year old.Jim Schlosnagel. There you go, getting
younger. Yeah there, hey, listen, the younger could be eighty if
(02:04:00):
you'll embrace it though, you justgot to embrace these That's true the way
it is with that I l andcollective and if you're not. Unfortunately,
like I said, it's like Igo back with Somebody asked me this about
two days like I think it wastwo days ago. We were discussing this
whole business, right of this itwas. It was after Chris Pessman was
and I love pest Okay, Ilove Chris, and I know Matt does
to love Chris Pessman, but talkto talk to talk about and he's one
(02:04:24):
of my favorite people. But totalk about, you know, going harder
into the collective and embracing stuff likethat, right whatever, I wasn't in
their meetings, but the speculation ofthat kind of stuff. So I likened
it to Mike Krzyzewski. And here'swhat I'm talking about. Skrzyzewski never wanted
to do what Calipari did. Hedidn't want to cruit one, and donce
Rip matter of fact, was adamantagainst one and Dounce had success at Duke
(02:04:45):
with it. But as his careerstarted to go on later and this guess
what he did. You got toplay the game. Yeah you may hate
it, but you Actually, now, if you hate it, guess what
you do. You retire and youget it beats you down, Nick Saban,
you get tired of You're the bestcoach in college history. You're tired
of that grind. I'm going tomake four or five million dollars giving speeches
and being on college gave day asopposed to happen to go tell a seventeen
(02:05:08):
year old that I'm keeping you fora half a million dollars because you want
to transfer after your freshman year.Eighteen year old, y, I get
that grind, don't you. Ross. So it was like Shryzhevsky. He
did not want to embrace it.But in college basketball, if you don't
embrace it, then Calipari and Billself the corner of the market. Well,
he finally said no, no,and then all of a sudd you
(02:05:29):
go get them, and then youget you have to keep up. You
may despise it in your own andsay I can't believe I'm doing this because
the Grant Hills and the Latens.Well, back in the old day,
you never old school. You stayedthe whole time. And if you're a
University of wis confident Iowa, youstill stay the whole time. Yeah,
but and he finally embraced reluctantly embracedit, and you still get good players.
(02:05:51):
And that's just the way it is. And it's the same with this.
You may hate it, but ifyou're not willing to keep up with
it or at least make the effort, you will get up behind because the
people who hate it and still goafter it will will buy exactly. And
that's just I mean, any anysort of walks of life, if if
the if the game is changing, and you're not willing to change with it,
then you're going to be the oneleft out of the alert. Probably
(02:06:13):
hard to keep up on information froma flip phone right now, right even
though you because I would like onetoo, right, But you can't exactly
even you know, if we like, if we were preparing for a show
twenty years ago, we would readthe newspaper. We would be reading USA
today, we would be reading sportsillust. I still love to hold that
paper. I know it's the smellof the end of the paper in your
(02:06:35):
hand, absolutely, But the gamehas changed. If if you prep with
with the morning paper today, thenyou're twenty four hours behind basically at the
exactly right, two cycles of fast. Yeah, so it's just how it
is. And and David Pierce apparentlynot willing to change as much with the
times. So the Jim slashnagel inwith the with the Texas long horns and
(02:07:00):
ayah, like you mentioned with ChrisPesman or with Nick Saban, I mean
that's just to me, it's almostlike if you're an aspiring college coach and
you want to move up to theranks, it's you almost have to wonder
like, is this even something thatI want to do, something that I
want to be a part of whereyou're running these that video that came out
(02:07:20):
when with those recruits going on theUT campus and the guys are reving up
lambos and playing music and all thattype of stuff. And then you have
to cowt out to seventeen year oldsand tell them they're the best thing ever.
Tell their parents how much money they'regoing to pay their kid as opposed
to how many times what they're theyhave their program in their academic slates,
(02:07:42):
and yeah, that they're going tobe a national championship. Picture. You
invest hours and hours and hours sothat they commit to you as juniors,
and then they flip their commitment sixmonths later and they're playing there, and
or you're training for two years andthey're still in a competition. I'm not
going to compete. I'm going somewhereelse, and that guy gets to reap
the benefits of your program. Yes, it's hard, it's it's a hard
to accept. It is. Andlisten, I think what you're going to
(02:08:05):
see with the money they make nowcoaches, I think you may see more
coaches walk away earlier because they doyou know what I'm saying. Or look
at Chip Kelly. Chip Kelly wasthe head coach at UCLA. Now,
I don't know the reasons. Deepyou're the head coach at the Division one
program and a storied basketball program, but good football program. Trust we played
against him every year. They've gotgreat players. Leaves the head coaching job.
(02:08:30):
Yes, to go be a coordinatornow? Five ye who would have
done that five years ago? Iwould it have been unheard of. Now?
The question is you just don't likeyou sailors Like I'm tired of the
rat race. So I just wantto coach football, call plays, let
everything else fall on you and thenil and collective. I'll tell a guy,
I go get him, We'll doit. He made a lot of
money, exactly. So you startto wonder like a player who's had a
(02:08:52):
concussion or two walks away seven yearsinto his career instead of twelve. Yeah,
you know we've seen we've been seeingthat. That's exactly right. Absolutely,
this is a different time, allright. Time for a quick break

There is a wheel actually back here, and it may be Pat,
say Jack, maybe it could becould be I don't know who Thursday is.
(02:11:50):
But it's been a we've had aplethora. Really, it's been a
hell of a run. Sugar.I mean, if you're gonna fill in
for Lilima, those are big shoes. That's true. I mean when I
say, now, now, allthese guys have full time gigs, when
I say, yeah, those arejoggers. Yeah, that's a great real
love that one. Those are joggersat a sh medium. Yeah, I'm
just kidding, But dude, thoseare big shoes for a morning show.
(02:12:11):
Because he loves it, and he'spassionate and loves it. These guys all
got their gigs, and I can'tkeep taking them away from their gigs to
double down on the others. Plus, I don't think you know, unless
I'm handing them a couple of seednotes to fill it. Let's go,
Kay, that exactly got it?Hey right now, I don't and I
would too have it. Awake upat four thirty, Brothers, I'm with
you, So Bill, I don'tknow. I really don't know. TRIPLEI
(02:12:33):
we I got you know what.I'm under the deadline. I got to
sign a guy. Bye bye,I gotta go find a schlos I am.
I am so. I don't knowyet what I'm doing for Thursday.
So but you can you can goahead. I'm busy tomorrow, but I
can fill in Friday. Well,he'll be back Friday, he says,
he'll be in the hell. Hesays, he won't be a diva if
(02:12:54):
he wins a chip and he'll comein on Friday. Roscolle, Can you
be bought? Absolutely? I say, with a ring? Or was he
going to get a belt? Theyget a ring? Okay, they got
a rings? Good? Yeah, they get a ring. So you know
(02:13:15):
that was about real quick Texas andut stuff. I'm amused by amuse since
I've come to Texas in five years, the absolute bitterness and pettiess between the
two schools, it's it's it's fascinatingto me. But what gets lost in
it? Say I have no dogin the fight. I don't. I
don't care either way. Uh thisslost thing, how he did it and
what he could he couldn't have saida more worse thing a couple of nights
(02:13:37):
ago. I mean he could havesaid anything. I think you addressed that.
But let's not forget not just him. He drags his whole coaching staff
with him. It's not just him. All of them bolted with him,
hitting coach, pitching, coach, coordinator. I mean, can you can
bang them a and m fans andgig him can bang on him. He
(02:13:58):
took the whole staff jumped. Yeah. And now you've got to go from
the gigam to the horns. Yeah, I mean you got to learn hand.
You got to the new hands.Oh it's the thumb tuck, isn't
there? You go? Do You'vebeen the making a cow build build?
So you this this hatfields in McCoy'sthinks crazy, isn't it? With Texas
and Texas A and M But Imean, I guess that's why Alabama Auburn
(02:14:20):
s the u c l A.But is there one? Is there more
hatred than any universities bill You've followedsports forever. It's so palpable. It's
crazy, isn't it. I wouldsay the only thing I could relate to
because I spent more time in thatpart of the country is Michigan and Ohio
state. There you go, Yeah, same category Florida Florida state type of
thing, right, sure, yeahthey could yeah, they they they they
(02:14:43):
enjoy doing things like this, thiskind of stuff to each other. Uh.
And now with with players going tobe able to do the same things,
it's it's so going to be socommonplace That's why I get so abused
by the words when I see youonline in Twitter, when they five star
or four star says, I'm proudto know I've committed to Blank. Well,
(02:15:05):
no, you haven't committed to anybody. You've just said I've agreed to
play one year of college football orbasketball for this school. Next year.
We'll see what happens. But theword committed is so just absolutely abused.
Now, well, the next thingall these guys recruits put up now they
have to and Bill, thanks forthe phone call, appreciate you, brother,
is hold my beer next to I'vecommitted, right, Yeah, I've
(02:15:26):
committed, but hold my beer somebodyelse like a heart, he's a hard
commit. You even have to askhe's committed, but he's a hard commit,
a soft commit. And then andthen it's all it's it'll say,
you know, you go to therecruiting website, it's a hard commit.
And then the guy flips on signingday. So now they used to you've
committed, hard commit, the softcommand. What kind of selter is this?
(02:15:46):
Right? The hard seltzer? That'sright? Ross, so real quick,
honestly, is it? You gotto bend the pinky in the in
the index fing I give him straightup and tuck and then straight k tuck.
Or you can do if you dothe full like thumb over the two
that middle fingers, that amateur hour. Yeah, that's that's gotta be.
There's supposed to see between the You'resupposed to you like a mouth out of
(02:16:07):
the out of the thumb. Therewe got it. Yeah, like you're
bevo. Yeah. Or and ifyou're doing that, this is Matthew McConaughey.
He throws. He throws like OzzyOsbourne devil horns. Yeah, that's
how he does it. He cando whatever he is, whatever he wants
come back. They just roll himout for everything. He's on the basketball
(02:16:31):
floor, he's on the football field. They better be paying him a lot
of money to be that kind ofambassador. But he's probably donating some of
his coin back to them. Yeah. When I was on campus, they
told legends of Matthew McConaughey, professor. I think, yeah, I think
he is. I think he Basicallythey're gonna name the school after there's the
building's coming exactly exactly. I mean, my goodness, Okay, we do
(02:16:52):
have to take quick break because youknow why we have Dana Brown, the
Houston Astros general manager, coming uphere. We got a lot of questions,
a lot of things to get theAstros of one six in a row.
They're four and a half back ofthe Seattle Mariners. The general manager
himself coming up next here on aSports Talk seven ninety. Hey, are

advertisement for the Sean Salisbury Show continued, have confirmed with sources he is not
giving them seltzers in Caprice sons andhis coaching staff when it's time they go
out and have a cocktail. Yes, the players are still drinking kool aid.
(02:19:22):
Okay, thankfully you see you allthis all the seriously, all the
like the what is the name ofthat drink you just said for the kids?
Son. Back in the day,it was just simple. Your mom
mixed up like absolutely through some waterand there in the hard you get the
flavory that's the right, and sugarout there, you know what. That's
(02:19:43):
right, classic about a bag ofsugar and you put about half a bag
of Imperial sugar in that bad boy, mix it with the wooden spoon.
And you know, the parents firstof all want you to go outside and
play. You're jumping off the wall. And then you come in and pour
them a big old picture of sugarfilled kool aid and you're red for the
rest of the day. Your lipsare red. Get your ass outside,
that's right. Absolutely. Then yougo drink off the water daily. Yeah,
(02:20:09):
there we go, and that's notthe old school. Hey, I
drank off the walk three miles uphillin the snow. Literally, it just
drank out. It just tasted better, it was cold. Don't we still
do that? I don't just gooutside down. They want to drink out
of the sick. It's bottle ofwater or bust. No, we've we've
all gotten soft. Yeah, weall have, all right, So we'll
let the old man creep in,right, and they don't let the old
(02:20:31):
man in? And then what thesong says, right, we need to
hear. We will be hearing fromDana Brown shortly. We are out to
contact him. In the meantime, you want to get in you can seven
one three, two one two fiveseven ninety. Of course, that'll be
an Astros focused segment. You havethe Astros four and a half games back
of the Seattle Mariners. Now they'vewon six games in a row and going
(02:20:56):
for a two game series sweep todayagainst a cor Colorado Rockies. It'll be
Spencer Arraghetty one ten pm start hereon Sports Talk seven ninety. Astros at
a minus one ninety five, whichis pretty interesting to me. Ryan Feltner
the starter for the Colorado Rockies asthe Astros go for the sweep and we'll
see what we get out of SpencerAraghetty ben shaky. The last couple of
(02:21:20):
times that he's been out seven inningsand one in a third innings against the
Detroit Tigers a couple of weeks ago, four and a third innings, three
earned runs his last time out. Before that, he had been really turning
things around, started looking a lotbetter, and he started to look like
the guy that we thought maybe hewas the Astros top pitching prospect. So
(02:21:41):
Spencer Arraghetty, can he have thatbounce back start today for the astual I
think he needs it, and Rossyou were you had mentioned and we're gonna
find out what's Matterson sooner than laterabout a fifth solid fifth starter. But
what I've liked about Raghetty the mostis now he's got to cut down on
walks Ross you You and I bowknow that right, commanding I mean cutting
down towards Yeah, And he's gotto cut down and not give him free
(02:22:05):
passes. But I do like abouthim. I do like the grind though
he is steadily for the most part. Now you said that bounced back start
until Alaska he is he has steadilygotten better. He strikeouts around six or
seven. He hovers and he givesyou good, hard innings, but he
also gives you too many free passes. Walking the tightroad. That's exactly right.
He's he's it's a slippery slope orwhatever side he's going on. But
(02:22:26):
I do I think he's got potentialto be a really good pitcher. I
love the fact that while I knowsometimes it can be your expense with a
team you're trying to win, butyou know what it tells me too.
They're not afraid to run him outthere, and he's not afraid to go
out there and grind through tough innings. There's still some obviously some polishing he's
got to do, but don't youthink as we look down the down the
scope, the guy's got some abilityto be really good for this team.
(02:22:50):
Yeah? I think so, Andhe was round this year. I've been
Yeah, the control issues or somethingthey've been talking about since he's a prosist,
no doubt. Everybody's always said, you know, he's got the stuff.
He cans been it. He doesn'thit you know, ninety eight on
the gun, but he's got thatlong wingspan, so he's got the extension,
he releases the ball closer to themountain. But yeah, too many
walks. It was four of themhis last time out, giving up the
(02:23:11):
three earn runs against the White Soxof all teams, and then a couple
of them against the Detroit Tigers beforethat. But yeah, I mean,
you go look through his box scores, which I have him in front of
me, two three, four walksjust every single time that he goes out,
if he can start to limit thefree passes because you know he'll get
some swing and miss and I dolike you know, we were talking earlier
(02:23:33):
about the body language of Hunter Brown. Yes, Ragett, he's got good
byes does when he gets that littlecat he gets that hair flow of the
way he does like this is Samson, dude, exactly what hair flips out
there? I think he believes whatI do. Like it, that's true,
And I'm okay with the hair flip. I just struck you out now,
let me. Yeah, exactly,he is. There's a grind about
(02:23:56):
him and a swagger about him thatI almost feel like he knows he belongs.
And that's part of the battle, especially when you're a rookie pitching against
big league pitching, and sometimes hecan get a little too cute, I
think, and that's where the walksthem when he's going good and commanding the
zone and willing to pitch out ofit, but make them competitive pitches.
He I think. I think we'reonto something with him now. I don't
(02:24:18):
know if you're running him out thereif you're in a three starter series right
to to to win a playoff series, but I do believe he can give
you some vau and he has givenvaluable meanings at a time, maybe even
prematurely that you weren't that you wishyou could have waited a tad long.
Yeah, yeah, but I thinkhe's doing a good job of earning against
some really good, well major leaguehitting. Yeah, this is a nice
(02:24:39):
soft landing spot for him. So, yeah, a soft landing spot here
for him with the White Sox.You were figuring it was a soft landing
spot for him taking on the Detroitafter this, giving up those seven seven
earned runs against Tigers. So anothersoft ish landing spot for the for Spitzer
(02:25:00):
Getty taken on the Colorado Rockies today. That's that's what we're hoping for.
So you felt like it was gonnabe last time he did. He went
out there, he wasn't great, but going for the sweep today Astros are
favored and another saucepots for Spenser Arigedyto try to turn this turn it around.
It's been two bad back to backstarts that weren't great, even though
he had been rolling off some prettygood ones there. Yeah, and just
limit free passes, command of thestrikes on. He said, he's got
(02:25:22):
the day game start today, right, And who's who's the opposing who's uh
witching? Yeah, they're they're uh. The Astros are a nice minus one.
It's something Feltner, Ryan Feldner,I believe you have minus one ninety
five are at Houston Astros. Souh, I think you know, if
we had to pick, of course, two games sweep. After the win
(02:25:43):
last night, Hunter Brown was good. Seven straight quality starts now from Hunter
Brown. So he's he's really beenlooking good turning around. We've been talking
about it, the adding the sinkerto his repertoire, and he's looking that
dude, and like you mentioned theSpencer Arighedty, the confidence is there there.
I think he does believe he belonged. He's smart, he's intuitive,
he loves diving into the numbers. He knows how to pitch, and that's
(02:26:05):
why I do have confidence that he'llfigure it out. I'm not saying the
guy is going to be an acein the next couple of years, but
he's somebody that you can hang aroundin your rotation and you can expect to
eat some innings and get them out, no doubt about it. And ross
with that, from the pitching tothe hitting and the way that they're starting
to heat up. I love whenthis team posts big runs early, you
know what I'm saying, And yes, do it again. He's here for
(02:26:26):
Hunter Brown to do his thing. And quite frankly, it's it's almost feels
like Hunt of Brown's doing this thingregardless of how many runs you put up,
and you sure feel a little morefreer and to let it loose when
you you know, your two inningsin and you're up five to nothing,
and the way he's pitching, that'susually enough to win. Yeah, that's
that's what we've been talking about too, is all season. They they've been
(02:26:46):
pretty good. As far as youlook at home run numbers, you look
at op team ops, the Astroshave been, you know, one of
the top teams in baseball in faras far as those metrics, but what
they've been struggling is the runners inscoring position. Early in the season,
they were like twenty sixth with runnersin scoring position. Now they're moving up
to Yeah, now they're moving upto like thirteenth I believe with runners in
(02:27:09):
scoring position. And then that's goodnews as they continue to climb. All
right, we got our guy,Dana Brown. Oh, okay, good,
there you go, astros GM DanaBrown for his weekly visit, and
we'll kind of blow through this breaka little bit and keep daying around.
Dana, welcome in. Good tohave you. You've been saying all year
long, and for two of youa year and a half now sean long
(02:27:31):
season. Hang with us. Well, here you are. A week ago,
ten games out, a bunch ofgames, six or seven games under
five hundred, and literally in sevendays, you're four and a half out.
You said you wanted to get tofive hundred by the All Star breaker
better, and here you are. This must feel pretty good about your team.
I know you're not arrived yet,but this last week had to feel
(02:27:52):
real good. Absolutely still really goodhere. Sorry for the reception we couldn't
get through here probably ultimately that Ultimately, the guys are playing better. And
you know, when you're in thisposition, you know, it's always exciting
because the guys are getting after it, and that's exactly what we wanted.
(02:28:13):
You know, the pitching has beenreally good over the last month or so.
The guys are starting to swing thebats, the defense is really good.
It's an exciting time, exciting timehere now and then things are flowing
in the right direction. Dany knowwhat's what's interesting about this too. You
you've you've preached this about your team'sgoing to get hot, and you know,
(02:28:33):
as fans and media say, yeah, yeah, but win win,
and you said it, but Idon't think that was just cosmetic. You
deeply believe that this team was thatgood, and here we are with validation.
I know you've got to continue tosustain it, but this is the
team you expected come spring training.Correct, Absolutely? You know one one
(02:28:54):
thing, you know, I've beenin the game a long time, as
I always talked about, and whenyou I know that that is between a
good club and a bad club. This is a really good club. And
I knew it was just a matterof time. It's one hundred and sixty
two games, we're just about halfway, you know, at the eighty one
game mark. You know we're righton the brink of growing of getting the
five hundred. And I said, once we get to five hundred, you
(02:29:18):
get you get on the hot streak. That's when you push the envelope and
you end up five over, tenover, and then you're in business.
So you know, the boys aretrue to form. They're they're working it
out, they're grinding through it.I've talked about the grit that they have,
and you know they're playing good baseballright now. Danny, with all
with the naked eye that we seein your expertise in baseball that you see
(02:29:39):
which is deeper than us, andyou're around the team every day. But
is there something the hidden gym orsomething that we don't get to see that
is also part and parcel to thisturnaround for your team? No, I
just think it's contagious. You know, good baseball is contagious. When one
guy gets hot and he starts tohit, the other guy gets contagious.
(02:30:01):
The other guy just bounces off thoseguys, just like the start of yesterday's
game. You know, you gotthose four or five hits, right in
a row. It just get contagiousafter a while. The guys are feating
off each other. And as Imentioned, it's a good team and these
guys love the game, and Iknew it was just a matter of time,
you know, before they break out. And the one thing we have
to do is we have to stayat it. You know, we have
(02:30:22):
to. You know, this gamecan humble you, so you have to
keep grinding. You have to keepyour foot on the pedal and keep it
moving. Dan, I'm curious aboutthis, and I know it may sound
like an odd question, but whatmakes you more giddy? We're in a
time when launch angle and home runsand power is important. You've talked about
power and slugging, You've mentioned itregularly, But what makes you more giddy,
(02:30:45):
Like when you were struggling and youget to going good the small ball
part of it where you're getting fourand five hits in a row, or
when your team's power surge goes crazy. If you had to choose one,
what makes you smile a little bitmore? Yeah, I like the small
ball, you know, because Iknow that's what it takes to be a
championship club. I mean, youknow, when it gets down to it,
(02:31:05):
and the pitching gets a little tougheras you know, you get into
the postseason. You have to beable to play small ball. You have
to be able to get runners over, You have to do all the little
things to help you win baseball games. I know we're going to hit home
runs at times, but the homeruns aren't always going to be there.
There's times you got to drive theball in the gap. There's times you
got to get the runner over, you know. There's times you got to
(02:31:26):
lay down a bunch like Jake didlast night. That was outstanding, you
know. So there's times that youhave to play small ball, and those
those little things help you win alot of baseball games, particularly when it
comes down to the end when thepitching's really good. You only you know,
you need four or five runs towin the game. Astro's GM data
Brown for his weekly visit. Weappreciate him. Know he's going to be
doing some travel in the next coupleof days. So glad we were able
(02:31:48):
to fit fit this in. Danawith the first base position. You had
spoken to us about, Hey,guys are going to get at bats.
We'll mix and match and do thethings, and I know it was a
difficult human nature decision for a break. You both at that position. Is
your current roster good enough to useguys to get the production you want from
(02:32:09):
first base or is that something you'regonna have to look at come trade deadline?
Yeah, I mean I would saythis team, one of the more
peris said our great year that year, but you guys still won the World
Service. I wasn't here at thetime. What we what we'd like to
have a first basement and a ninehundred ops. Absolutely, I mean we
(02:32:30):
get a chance to do that. You know, I have to trade deadline,
and it makes sense for us.We don't have to mortgage the farm
and we can add to it.Well, we'll get after it, you
know. Uh. But ultimately, right now, I think you know,
the mixing and matching, Uh,you know, it's a part of what
we're doing. You know, wehave to fight with what we have.
Uh. You know, we're gonnamix in dubond, We're gonna mix in
(02:32:52):
Singleton and so you know, ultimatelywe you know that position, we'll we'll
mix and match and unless we cando better and it makes sense. Hey,
let me get your expertise about theway you you know, when in
developing players and seeing their skill set, which is such a talent of yours
over your career. If I saidfive years from now, is Joey low
(02:33:13):
Berfito an outfielder or a first baseman? What would you tell me? Yeah,
I would say he's an outfielder.I mean, with that type of
athleticism, I would say he's anoutfielder. So for sure, you know,
can Kenny play first? Well,we continue to give him some brown
balls at first base? Yes,but I think you know, I mean
(02:33:35):
you see the diving play that hemade the other day. Play he's going
into the gap, no doubt. This guy's athletic, he's got energy.
You usually don't put those guys atfirst base, but if you have to,
if you have to spell that, you'll do it. But you know,
ultimately I see this guy, youknow, as an outfielder. You
know. But but if you know, there's there's been guys that could play
first, that could play left, and I think he could do you know,
(02:33:56):
he could do multiple things. Butwith that athletic says and you'd like
to see him in the outfit forsure. Yeah, Dana. With getting
to the injury thing, should webe starting with Verlander. How concerned should
we be? And do we havea timeline? Yeah? I mean these
things sometimes, you know, they'rea little bit tougher for him to think.
You know, we thought it wouldbe you know, a quick fifteen
(02:34:18):
day I l and you know thathe would be he would be all right.
But he still has some discomfort inhis neck, and so we have
to pay attention to that and youknow, we have to grind through it
as we wait for him to comeback. And it's hard to put timetables
on injuries, you know, particularlywith veteran players, you know when they
get a little older. So Ithink that at some point, you know,
(02:34:41):
we'll get him back. I thinkhe felt like he was feeling a
little bit better yesterday, which isgood news. But you know, we
want him to get back as soonas we could, but we have to
we have to be patient and makesure we don't rush him back. And
Kyle Tucker has been such a durableplayer here, you know, we've talked
about it and this pain threshold andthat's it's a serious, serious deep bruise
(02:35:01):
injury. What is his timetable andshould we kind of temper our? Could
this actually beat to the All Starbreak that we don't see Kyle Tucker,
or do we expect him sooner?I would expect him a little sooner.
Yesterday he took some swings off thetee. You know, we are playing
well, you know, we're twelveand six without him, but we definitely
(02:35:22):
need him. You know, maybethat twelve and six will be a little
bit different, you know, maybewe'd be fourteen and four or something,
but we're definitely gonna need him.But he took some swings off the tee
yesterday. That's a good sign.So hopefully we can get him out there
running and moving. I think it'smore so when he starts to run,
or if he wants to make aquick cut or a quick turn instead of
(02:35:46):
running straight line. I think thatthat's part of, you know, the
swordness that he feels. But Iwould I had mentioned yesterday, I thought
maybe hopefully being get to back insideof ten days. It'd be nice,
Dan, if you had to choose, I mean, the fifth starter.
I mean, who's the fifth starterfor you right now? Who is that
guy? Yeah? I mean wehad talked about you know, of course
(02:36:11):
we used bloss, but you know, bloss stuff for the minor shoulder discomfort.
He's actually going to play catch himtodays, so that's good. He
may be fine and he maybe maybehe can come back and help us fill
that spot. But we do havein house, you know, we could
you know, Dugan's you know, pitched for us last year. He started
some games. He's a good swingman. To have a guy who was
(02:36:33):
on the I L maybe there's achance that you know, we could put
him in that position, stretch himout. He's got pretty good stuff.
You know, he got weapons toget right handers and left handers out.
And so right now, you know, we have a mix of a few
guys. You know, we havesome guys in triple A the throwing the
ball well a j blue ball. You know, we have Gusta who's thrown
well, he threw well again lastnight, and so you know, we
(02:36:56):
have some options. You know,of course we other JV get back here
and we push everybody down. Butultimately, you know, we still have
some depth that we didn't We didn'ttap into you speaking to put a smile
on your face. I would imagineHunter Brown's doing plenty of that. This
guy looks like a frontline ace theway he's throwing the baseball. Yeah hundred.
(02:37:18):
Brown's been outstanding in the month ofJune. And this five starts,
he's four and oh and you knowhe's dealing with like a one, one
and change Ernie. So he's gettingafter it and it's been exciting to see
because he's been battling all year. You know, we all remember the Kansas
City game where you know he didn'tthrow so well. But guess what,
that's what tells you. That tellsyou about what I talk about this club,
(02:37:41):
The grit, the relentlessness of theseguys continuing to battle to get back
to form to where they know they'recapable of being. And so's he's a
great example of it. You know, slow start, but he's been in
the grind right now with that fourand oh in the last five starts with
the one Ernie, I mean,he's getting after Dan a couple of just
a couple more minutes, we'll getyou out of here. And I appreciate
(02:38:03):
you being patient with us with thephone lines. Let me at the catcher
position. I understand with Victor withcarotene out, Is there any concern if
a guy's got a hammy for aweek and a half. What would you
do depth wise right now if oneof your catchers missed any significant time and
hopefully that won't happen. Yeah,I mean, I think we're gonna be
(02:38:26):
okay in that spot. Uh.You know, Salazar has proven that,
you know, he could fill inthe gap, you know, for a
week. You know, he comesin, gives you good at bat,
really good catcher, you know, really good receiver, really good game caller.
Uh, pictures love throwing to him. So you know, I feel
good. I feel good about wherewe are catching wise. You know,
(02:38:50):
we're looking into you know, maybeadding some depth to our triple A catching
and and that may help us.But you know, ultimately, you know,
we feel pretty good in that spot, you know. I mean,
as long as it's not a significantamount of time, you know, we
feel pretty good. You know,we want to get Karattini back. Hopefully
he'll be back in three weeks orso. But you know he's working his
(02:39:13):
tail off too. I saw himin a trainer's room getting his exercises and
stuff. And so the boys hadgrit, they'll be bad. Jean,
You've been preaching that. So letme end with this. If you had
and you love to talk to yourplayers, and you know, just give
him a little bit of motivation attimes, and you picking your spots.
If you had two minutes to sitdown, which you do with Jake Arraghetty,
(02:39:33):
maybe you've done this. What wouldyou tell him about his start today
or about moving forward this year.Yeah, I've always talked to Jay Arrogetty.
I'm sorry, I've always talked toAragetty since he's been up, you
know, And I tell arag Getty, look, I like to see the
fire in your eyes. You know, when you have that fire in your
eyes, you're a different guy.You know, keep the intensity and keep
(02:39:56):
the fire. And if you gotthat fire burning, you know how to
make that pick. You can getit up to ninety six when you have
to, you can break that slideroff. That nasty pitch is a swinger
Mets pitch at times, and uh, you know, just keep the fire
going. That's what I would tellhim, and that's what I've been telling
him. And he understands exactly whatI'm what I'm saying, you know,
because he'll have a game where hewill cruise for five or six innings and
(02:40:20):
the fire is burning. I justgot to tell him, Look, if
you run into a roadblock early andyou give up a run or two.
Turn the fire on, keep itgoing. Yeah, and I'm saying you're
thinking of Jake Arietta. It's SpencerArraghetty and Jake Arietta, the former Cubs
pitcher. I think you and Iare on the same page Arragedy. So
there we don't have Jake. Wedon't have that Jake, but we do
have Spencer Arraghetty. So he doeshave major league makeup, doesn't he?
(02:40:46):
Oh? Absolutely, you know. And and the other part of this that
guys don't understand. You have tohave the heartbeat for this and the stomach,
you know, because sometimes you're goingto give up a bomb and you
got to, you know, youhave to turn it down. You have
to, you know, wipe itout and go get the next guy.
I mean, it's just part ofthe game. There's other players out there
that are just as good as you, but the person who knows how to
(02:41:11):
you know, make the adjustments, those are the guys that end up on
top. And so so you knowthat that's just part of what we do
in baseball. You know, there'sa lot of good players out here,
but the players that have the heartand the stomach for it. You know,
those are the ones that usually endup on top. Well, Spencer'll
get that start today and a chanceof the sweep and in seven eight days,
(02:41:31):
five and a half games made upon the division. It's been impressive.
You've been preaching it and it's awesometo see in a lot of good
news from today's talk. We appreciateyou and we'll talk to you next Wednesday.
Enjoy the road trip after you geton it today, brother, appreciate
you absolutely, chance to be fivehundred. Let's go Astro fans get behind
us. There you go, Thanksa lot, appreciate it. That's Dana
(02:41:52):
Brown and Ross. We blew throughthe break. So we're going to finish
right here. Okay, yeah,I've said here Jake Myers, I'm thinking,
ye, Jake, arey know hewant to sig Young. We got
Spencer Raghetty. But and he's like, well it's not Jake, let me
go to Aragat. There you go. But I think he believes he's a
got a chance to be really reallygood. I think, yeah, what
he said in what you guys aresaying, it's about a lot of it
(02:42:13):
is. Of course, do youhave the talent, do you put in
the work, and do you havethe mentality that it takes to go out
their time and time again, Ithink Spencer does. Yeah, I do
too, and you know what, they're gonna need him even more, especially
since we're not settled on a fifthstarter right now. Yeah, and you
may need a sixth at some pointin time. Craziness. I think ideally
they would be in a six manrotation. You don't have the arms,
and especially even when Verlander gets backright, you're gonna need that. So
(02:42:37):
you got to find it and managethose innings. But it's it's been impressive
these last seven or eight days tomake up five and a half games on
the Mariners. And now we've beensaying it all year long. Here they
are a game away from five hundredand the All Star break still fifteen sixteen,
seventeen games away. Crazy awesome, great stuff today. Man, all
right, thanks for goodbye, appreciateyou coming in. I know it's a
(02:43:00):
pain in the ass. It's goodman. It's good to be on Boarding
radio. It's been a while andthanks to you can see the tone of
the titter of this conversation. It'snice when you're within it all the time.
We don't have to talk about it. Pray it's oh God, tell
you sure we're all. I'm surehe's happy. He didn't have to talk
about a brave Did you kind ofread between the Linezo like a nine hundred
ops at first base? Taking baby? That baby, just baby. If
(02:43:24):
that guy's out there, you neverknow. Good stuff by Dana Brown,
A great stuff by you. Appreciateyou, brother, all right, thanks
Sean. Then I will talk toyou guys six p m. Here on
Sports Talk seven ninety. Coming upthough, it's stand Northfleet, It's Chris
Gordy, it's next up. Don'tgo anywhere
