(00:02):
Great old right. Okay, let'sdo this. Sewan Salisbury, The usc
Truth, longtime friend, Shawn Salisbury, Bryan Lima, go Lobo. This
is the Sewan Salsbury Show, Sogrind it out man. Hopefully everybody's okay.
(00:24):
Keep an eye on your neighbors, keep an eye on your family.
That's all I can say. Yeah, hopefully. Man. It's always dangerous,
and pay attention to you know whatnews in our on our radio stations
here saying about you know, bruon the news side, Protect yourself and
be careful. If you don't gotto be out there, don't. But
yeah, I just hope everybody's okay. We've seen this movie before and it
wasn't good, and it doesn't feellike it's going to be as bad.
(00:46):
But for somewhere along the line, somebody is gonna be rolling through difficult times.
So hopefull everybody's okay, man.So yeah, yeah, it's uh.
I've done a lot of cool thingsin my career so far. Here
doing radio driving in a hurricane.I never thought i'd do my life pretty
pretty wild. Welcome radio. Withthis thing getting brought in at just a
(01:07):
couple of days ago, they saidit was going to go through Mexico.
Then it made its upward turn andnow it's bearing down on the city of
Houston. Hope everybody is safe outthere as they listened to us on your
radio or on the free iHeartRadio app. Let's Talk sports. What a long
weekend. Welcome back John, andhe had a much need a day off.
What day it was like two yearsago, say like welcome back,
(01:30):
Like I was gone like eight days. I was going as many days everybody
else. But one day, Iknow, Wednesday. Yeah, I finally
took a day off, finally, and I took a day off for no
other reason and to go play golf. And I freaking loved it. So
it was nice. It was muchneeded, and I'm grateful I did.
But it was long. I don'teven know how to remember. It's hard
(01:51):
to remember all the from Thursday, you know, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday,
Saturday, Sunday, all the baseballI know, you know, I
had a chance a huge Friday night, I mean, what a game that
was, and what to lose Saturdayand Sunday and unfortunately the ninth inning walk
off job for Minnesota yesterday. Toughone. But I'm gonna tell you they
(02:15):
are all the stuff that we're gonnacomplain about the All Star situation, which
we'll get to. Losing yesterday atthe end of a game. I just
remind you, and I'm not tryingto make light of the fact that,
well, you know, they gotbeat yesterday, but teams are gonna get
beat. You're gonna lose sixty plusof them. We know that it's a
(02:36):
bummer the way they lost it yesterday. But I will tell you, three
weeks ago, not a soul believethey were going to be in this position.
Right We are looking at six moregames before the All Star Game,
and if things go right, hell, who knows where they could be when
the All Star break gets here. They're already within a series of the Seattle
(02:57):
Mariners a series. So it wasa bummer the way it happened. Minnesota
is a good baseball club. Alot of people getting hit yesterday, and
not on purpose. But how fittingis it that Carlos care is the one
that took the the fastball in theright hand, the top hand, not
on purpose. Well, well,we're in Houston. We're allowed to say,
(03:21):
yeah, purpose, but at somepoint in time, you've got you
have to one's got to get awayfrom you for respect for your teammates,
no question. And I don't evencare if I don't even care if you
got ejected at some point in time. And you know what, I'll be
honest with you. I think itmakes a bigger impact when the guy that
got hit used to play here.I do too well. So I was
going to say I loved it.I hate I hate hero issue with you
(03:42):
saying I I don't have a problemand I love the fact that a rookie
threw it. Yeah that makes iteven better. Yeah, it's like,
hey man, because there's some veteransout there in the past across baseball.
They got the balls to do that. They're worried about getting kicked out of
a game. You want to gainrespect faster than any ten strikeout game.
Pluck somebody who is former teammate, well not his teammate, but a former
(04:04):
astro because he obviously wasn't here, but who was in this organization? And
you saw four or five of yourguys get hit over the weekend, and
enough's enough, even if it wasaccidental. It's hard for me to believe.
And I know that I listened tobroadcasts I'm talking about well, balls
are just getting away from people becausethey're ramping up velocity. I believe that
about eighty five percent. There's fifteenpercent of me that thinks that there's still
(04:27):
messages that are being sent. Andyou know what, I get it,
but I don't get it if youallow that to keep happening to you without
sending message back. And even ifit wasn't on purpose, cheese upstairs,
I'll tell you why I liked it. It wasn't a freaking curveball. I
don't know why I might get hurt, but I'll tell you what messages are
okay by me. I think yougained my respect, damn right, And
(04:48):
you don't want anybody to get hurt. But the message and just happened to
be Carlos Korea. And guess what. He walked over to the to the
dugout. You know, get itlooked at by the doctor as if almost
as if he expected it, eventhough I imagine he didn't. But I
don't care if carlis Kray, Idon't care if George Springer, I don't
give a rats ask who you are. Matter of fact, it sends a
(05:11):
louder message you're not going to pluckfor the guys, even if it's accidental
without us sending some kind of message. And good on Arrogetty. I listen
the rest of it. Great,we can break down his performance. My
favorite part of it is the messageit's sent that no, no, no,
and they're never going to admit itwas on purpose, and maybe it
wasn't, maybe it just got awayfrom him, but I like the fact
that it got away from him thereas opposed to outside and you know,
(05:35):
into the dugout on a play orto a right hander outside the plate to
the left hand side. So butI do not want anybody get hurt.
I don't like head hunting, butI do believe you can get out of
the way in a message, andI don't want cray out for an extended
amount of time. It's okay forlittle Bruce, Okay, it's okay to
send that message to protect your guys, and you will gain more respect in
sports any way, shape or fashionwhen you protect your own players faster than
(05:59):
any for home run game, fasterthan any well we call it. You
know. We've got a Dodger goingfour straight smith, four straight at bats
with home runs. We got thekid in New York hitting and I watched
that whole game. Yankee is hittingthree home runs over the wheel on his
Saturday. It was just against Boston, so we had some big hitting performances
over the weekend and some good pitching. But I can tell you this my
(06:23):
one of my favorite situations, eventhough they lost a baseball game, is
to make sure that you send amessage, even if it's not on purpose,
I'm going to take it. However. I want the message to be
from my vantage point, and Ithink it works. I think it's important,
and I think where people don't wantto talk about sit in the locker
room. I assure you. Atsome point somebody came up to him and
said Smith young fella. Yeah, yeah, I believe. I believe that
(06:46):
to be the case. He hit. He hits former aster of Carls kray
a hashtag pay the man. Therewas a little pay there, hashtag pay
the man. You're going to senda message, make sure it's allowed one.
I used to tweet that out whenCarls crazy. Really I did a
couple of times. Not a bighashtag guy for the most part. Yeah,
yeah, I wanted Carlos kree here. But then once I saw the
(07:08):
price tag hashtag don't pay the man. So you were a pay the man
hashtag guy. Yeah, you boughtinto the hype a couple times. M
nice man. Maybe even send outa hype video too with hashtag pay the
man. That was an adamant hashtag. When it gets to three hundred million
in ten years, don't even touchit, yeah, I'm out of there
on that one. I don't eventouch it. Yeah. There, they
haven't suffered much at that position,I can tell you that. Yeah,
(07:30):
speaking of a pay the man, they are paying Josh Hater ninety five million
dollars to be an average closer. He has not been good this year.
Ninety five million dollars for him togive up another walk off in another blown
save. He's three. He's gota three and five record this season.
Josh Hater does four point one fiveERA sixty one ks. That's tied for
(07:56):
one hundred and fifteenth in the league. We're talking about Josh Hater here,
having just said six one strikeouts andonly fifteen saves. Yeah, it's I
mean, he's been just a guy. Yeah, unfortunately, and I'll never
forget the very first time his appearance, he struck out the side and you
thought oh buddy, there's your there'syour fireman, relief man of the year
(08:16):
right there, aids relief man ofthe year back in the day, and
that it was going to be lightsout the entire time. And he just
listen, people have seasons. He'shad his moments, and and the way
you look at it, Padres Brewers, Padres weren't willing to continue to pay
(08:37):
him, and here he was here, and I raised my hand. I
didn't have problem with it when hecame here. I actually liked that.
I said, we just had seven, eight, nine are done. And
then you're not getting hit off theseguys. You're not gonna score on these
on these three well, they've hadtheir moments, but you know you're gonna
have to gut it out and hopethat he regains his all star form the
second half of the season, becausethey're gonna be games, they're gonna be
(08:58):
close, and it's gonna come down. This division may come down like last
year to a last series or two, and it'll be important. Ninety five
mil and I think I saw letme double check this real quick. If
I'm not mistaken. He's given uplike almost two home runs per nine innings
as a closer. Yeah, that'sthat's a little difficult, especially when you're
(09:20):
throwing what fifteen pitches. Yeah,it's okay, here it is. Josh
Hader has allowed eight homers and thirtynine innings this season, which is one
point eighty five homers allowed per nineinnings. That's up from zero point four
to eight last year. That's almostthat's double. That's double. Yeah,
it's you know, you're always, like we say, trying to say,
Okay, eventually, he's gonna regainwhat made him one of the best closers
(09:41):
in the league. This year hasbeen a tough go for him for consistency,
and quite frankly, he and Pressleyboth have had their moments of good
and have had their moments of average, and I've had their moments of just
awful. So we're gonna find it. You're gonna need that back in to
be outstanding the second half of theseason. But I mean, it's it's
been a hell of a They neededto move in June in early July and
(10:03):
they have. They've had their Saturdaygolf moving day and it was giving them
a chance within striking distance, andit's been pretty impressive. It's just a
bummer the way that they especially yesterday, the way they got beat. Yeah,
last year for Josh Hater, heallowed three home runs in sixty one
appearances. He's it's been more thandoubled so far and he's only been in
(10:24):
thirty nine appearances. So he's gotto figure it out. Because they're not
putting Ryan Pressey back in the ninthThat's not the answer. Whatever is going
on with Josh Haterer's got to figureit out and he has to execute and
be better. Simple as that.Yep. Because I saw a lot of
people yesterday saying put Brian Pressey backin the closer in the ninth inning.
That's not going to happen. Soa hell of a price tag for a
ninety million dollars setup, Man,it's a lot of good money. I
(10:46):
don't think you're going to do that. Listen, this team's proven that they
are fiercely loyal to people to letthem work through it. Because moving to
Hater to the eighth to the eighthinning now or even the seventh inning,
and keeping a brave putting a brayyou back in the eighth inning, guess
what that what that would do?That would put that would be basically saying
(11:09):
you failed on this signing. Yeah, and I don't think I don't think
they're ready to admit that. No. You see how long it took for
Jose Bray. Yeah, they aren'tdoing it with Josh Hater. All right,
long long holiday weekend, Let's catchup on all the Astros action.
Why was yord On Alvarez not inthe line up yesterday? That's next right
here on the Seann Salisbury Show. This is Craig Vigio. You're listening to
(11:35):
Sean Salisbury on Sports Talk seven ninety. You're home with the Stros. Were
you glued to the tv over theweekend, Sean to watch some of that
Summer League action? Because I knowI was, and I sure believes a
big bron guy, so he's aneven bigger brawny guy. I didn't even
know Summer League started. Whatever, dude, you got it on, like,
yeah, I swear in the backyard, got all four you had four
(11:56):
different games on. I honestly didnot have any idea that Summer League basketball
had started. I mean, Iknow some hang their hat, can't get
enough of it. NBA season endeda couple of weeks ago. Okay,
Jason Tatum's team just won an NBAtime, and even if I knew Summer
League was started, I've got zerointerest in. I hope Bronnie James his
(12:20):
game rises and he plays well andhe makes a team good for him,
and that he earns it on BronnieJames, not on Lebron James, because
that's just because of nepotism that hisgame says, because the question is is
his game going to be better thansomebody who else's name's not Lebron doesn't have
Lebron James last name, who losesa job because Lebron James is going to
(12:43):
make sure his kid makes the team. I contend that no matter what happens,
Bronnie James makes the Los Angeles Lakers, even if he's average, because
you don't want to because can youimagine how that's going to set his dad
off? And we know who makesthe decisions on all teams. So if
Bronnie James earns it because it's him, I've got I couldn't be happier for
agues, especially going through health issues. Good for him. I would imagine
(13:07):
deep down there's got to be apart of him that doesn't want to hang
on his dad's name. I'm sureit's nice to have that, but he
wouldn't have been drafted if it wasn'tbeen for his dad. If his dad
never played a down a possession inthe league by Brownie James game, Brianne
James would have been touched in thesecond round. Yeah. So if he
can go out there and prove thathe's a player, great. Now the
advantage is everybody connections. His dad'sconnected pretty well in the league, so
(13:31):
he gets a chance. Now goout there and enter it on your own
without having your dad have to bethe reason you earned it. DNA's good.
Now go proven. If he does, I'm all for it. I'll
root for anybody's success. But ifsomebody else who out plays him loses a
job because his last name's not James, then I do have a problem with
that. But as far as SummerLeague goes, I have not watched a
(13:52):
full Summer League game at any pointin time in my friggin life. Ever,
at any point in time, I'mnot that in interested in Summer League
basketball. I mean, if youwatched Women Yama for you know, a
quarter or two, we all watchthis time. I'm talking about a full
game from start to finish. Nothanks, so and I didn't even know
what started. I get to thisAstros. I'm getting ready for the Texans
(14:15):
and the rest of it. TheNBA right around the corner. The NBA
has been shoved down our throats sincewell, summer league. You take about
a day off and they're already startingthe season again. I'm not ready to
watch Summer league basketball, quite frankly, and I'd rather watch the John Deere
Classic, which I watched, okayin golf, and you know, so
for me, no no interest.I can I can see all the highlights.
(14:37):
I want about a minute and ahalf from Brownie James. Okay.
Oh by the way, just incase you were wondering, Game one,
I think he scored four points. He was held out of game two because
of knee soreness, so he's alreadygoing through the uh load management. Yeah.
Game two, I'll tell you doesn'tin the league. Rook doesn't fall
(14:58):
far from the tree. It suredoesn't. But he started at least Lebron's
been about eighteen years of play itevery night and they've decided to little or
you know, fifteen years of playit every night and being a workhorse on
the court, and you know,as his careers went on to give him
a little rest. I think youquite earned it. But you're way too
young to be taking load management inthe summer league game. Dude. You
should be playing every frigging minute soyou can make every let everybody know that
(15:20):
your game needs improvement. Okay, but uh, hey, you don't want
that sornee in summer in Vegas whereit's about one hundred and forty right now.
Do you see they broke a record? Yes, one hundred and twenty
degrees. Okay, you tell mepool side with the cocktail, one hundred
and twenty four. One hundred andtwenty four, pool side with the cocktail,
yeah, or driving in or sittingout here wondering if your power's going
(15:45):
out. You'd rather be the onehundred and twenty four degrees right, yeah,
sitting in that bathroom slight. Ohwell yeah, because if power goes
out, you're gonna be doing both. You gonna be dealing with the hurricane
and sitting in a sauna in yourown crib. Okay, unless unless you
got some way to get to getthat ac So, yeah, if you're
(16:06):
in Vegas, don't don't complain tome about how hundred when you turn on
your TV and see what the folkshere in Houston are going through? No
thanks, uh tripley Good morning morningguys. Are you okay with uh?
Are you okay? I know BrownieJames a little banged up already. I
know you're a big brownie guy.I didn't. I watched him play them
them, get them four points, and then that was it. It's exploded
(16:27):
for four. It was really aboring weekend. Guys. The fight wasn't
good. Which one chakur? Didyou watch? Nate Diaz and and Jorge
mazvall I flipped back and forth betweenthose two bombs were going at it.
That was a better fight than theone that you just want. I'm gonna
say something controversial. Oh I reallyam okay, not a hot take either.
(16:48):
You know how much I love holidays. I've told you that. Yeah,
it means something to me. Theyall do for now. I laugh
at like Valentine's Day because that's nota lover's holiday. That's a female holiday,
right Holidays? Who is it?Like? You know the Saint Patrick
Day where you could have a coldbeer like I get all that. You
know what the family Thanksgiving, Ilove it. I love Halloween seeing I
(17:08):
wish we could allow weedy I do, and yeah, you seem to wear
the mask, and I think Iwish kids could have their go back to
the day where you were allowed towear a wear wolf mask. And some
parents didn't complain because well, wedon't celebrate Halloween. Well guess what,
stay your ass home that day,get the get the wolf mask pronouns correct,
(17:30):
and you'd be okay. Then youstay home on Halloween and you have
you celebrate with your kid and letthe other twenty five kids in class celebrate.
Right, Or when you used tobe able to write the Valentine's car
toer to there he had a crushon when you're in a second grade head
and stick it in and it's justlike, oh yeah, the back of
the desk and they open up atthe end of the day. Right.
I love how Thanksgiving Chris, Ilove holidays. I'm I'm cheesy when it
(17:52):
comes to holidays. Friggin love it. And I've always said that I think
July fourth has been an underrate holidaybecause I like the outdoor cold here.
Now, if you're outdoors and youdon't have a fan or you don't have
a mister uh, and you're tryingto. This is the first time in
my life I haven't grilled. Youdidn't grill this weekend, grilled steaks the
(18:14):
day before and the day after onJuly fourth, I didn't grill. I
don't remember the last time I wentwithout a brot or a burger on things
on. I'm telling you it's truestory. And fireworks once I've seen a
firework no offense. Yeah, I'veseen them all. I've seen everything from
a high rise in Chicago to abeach in San Diego. I've seen them
all. And I know it's fun. But like in my neighborhood, Okay,
(18:37):
Katie has theirs on the on thefourth, there's somebody who started doing
it on the third. And forthough, and I never used to give
enough respect to this. For dogs, oh man, listen, my youngest
and and it's not like my bigone hundred pound bullies not afraid of it.
It's just he sees it and hearsthat he's protective and that, and
then they're and so they're on edgethe whole time. And people are hiding
under beds. You know, dogsare hiding under bed We should have humans
(18:59):
hide undred beds I've lost. Iunderstand our Independence Day and all that red,
white and blue. Listen, ifyou're in Newport Beach driving along a
boat, having a boat paryed, that's the greatest thing. And dude,
I wake up. After Katie hadtheir single ranch on the sixth has their
fireworks show just as loud and IAnd that's right in the backyard right Saturday.
(19:21):
I called. I called the policeforce. I said, dude,
I'm surprised they didn't show up myhouse. I said, if I see
a kid doing a firework of mine, I'm going to shove that firework right
up. And I said, yes, I'm going to walk out my backyard
old school. I'm gonna introduce himto what a Benelli M four looks like.
And them kids, that's what Itold them. I'm thinking eventually there's
(19:41):
they're just watch pulling up in myhouse. I said, are they?
I said, so you can tellme that, no, man, I
can in the middle of on aTuesday, in the middle of August.
Man, it has nothing to dude, you know me. I'm not cheesy.
July Force has been one of myfavorite holidays, getting up all day
long sports instead and this year, for the first time in my life,
(20:02):
I didn't see one firework pop inthe air. It didn't even didn't even
look out my window. Not onlyit's just like my dogs, and I'm
thinking, so four straight days we'rehaving so well, Sean, that's the
it's nothing to do with me inthe ole me because I'm the guy who
wants to cheat the system. Ibuy fireworks to light him in the cul
de sac for kid, I don'tcare. What are you gonna do?
Take my scholarship and slap my hand, Sean. We got to take you
(20:23):
down. We're arresting you for fifteengood when the kids are around in the
neighborhood. But nowadays you don't evensee kids having that fun in the neighborhood
where adults are sitting out in theirpatio. At least I don't anymore.
And so I've lost I swear toyou, I lost it, lost it.
This is the first time, notIndependence Day and seeing it all.
I love seeing people celebrating on theirboat in Florida and in California and going
(20:44):
down the lake and the river. But in my backyard, and I'm sure
were and you got dogs, uhhuh, you're with me on this.
Yeah, I don't. I don'tsee straight days of fireworks every single night.
So your dog's like, I'm gonnagive you a controversial take. For
me, I think Fourth of Julyis one of the most overrated I do
now too. First time didn't grill, no guests over just kind of it
(21:06):
was just another day. It remindedme when when Tripley said, uh,
it's kind of a boring week sports. Yeah, Thursday, this was the
most uneventful. I tell my dogs, it's at midnight and people are cracking
umn till two and three in themorning, and then the next day and
the next day. I'm like,it's a single ranch. You guys decide
to have you and I dude,I got to the point I wanted to
get my truck and drive over thereand just start popping my own fireworks,
(21:26):
meaning let one of you, becauseI've had one in the back. They've
come back in our green belt, you know where the house and kids lighting
fireworks and near people's backyards and runningoff. I said, I'm gonna turn
keylo loose on their ass. Andwhen he's got their grip around their throat
and their parents don't know where theirkid is come see me when it come
on with it? There you go, so but I love it. It's
(21:48):
the first all Sean, That's no. It isn't til you really tell your
dogs suffer. One day. Ican deal with that one night, I
don't care. But by the fourthtime, four straight nights of fireworks,
how many times you got to seethe red, the blue, and the
green ship you know you know, and the white fla up in the air.
And that's come from a guy whofreaking loves holidays more than a kid
does. And also another welcome,Welcome to the f M Kids Club.
(22:11):
All right, we we welcome newmembers. I have decided I like dogs
more than kids. Yeah the club. There you go, buddy, there
we go. All my three they'regrown up. Now shut the show down.
My goal has been achieved and Igrew up. Take those Take that
July sixth fireworks show and stick it. That's crazy man, yeah July six
(22:33):
yeah yeah, starts kicking in.I'm like, you're who's doing that?
The Ciga rants fullsher sinkle ranch insideof Katie, which Katie already had their
big one. No disrespect, ohyeah, a lot of disrespect. Dide.
I was beside myself. I lovethe I love our offers by it,
and I said, you know it'snot on huge. I understand,
(22:53):
sir, I understand. I said, I'm gonna take it into my own
hand. She goes have at itor go ahead, and I'm like,
click, all right, let's talksome astros. Jord On Alvarez not in
the line of what happened next, sort of pro painters, guys, sort
of pro painters that sort of withthe sea. Each sort of pro painter's
business is independently owned and operated andsort of pro painters. It's happy Painting.
(23:17):
In the schedule, you need toschedule that free estimate at surtapro dot
com. Again, that's sorted withthe se go schedule that free estimate.
They've come into my home Interior Xterior, changed it and made it phenomenal.
And when my friends and neighbors seeit and they want to know how that
happened, Sean, did you dothis? I'd love to take credit for
it, but I can't. Mycredit is I was smarter and I went
(23:37):
and got sort of pro to doit. They did it with class,
they did it with urgency, theydid it with efficiency. It was timely,
and they're local, and I likedealing with local businesses because I feel
like that they care about you andyou're not just a number. It's sort
of pro painters. They're the officialpainting partner of the Houston Astros. And
I've had nothing but phenomenal dealings withDale and the great people. That sort
of pro painters. So if youwant it done right, even you di
(23:59):
I want that love to do it, I get it. But if you
want it done right and done ontime and done the right way, it's
sort of pro painters. And inviteyour friends over Interior Extra, have him
take a look, and I guaranteeyou they'll leave and say, hmmm,
I need some assert of proe inmy life. It's expensive down a business,
it's expensive down a home, Soprotect it with quality painting from surt
of pro painters again sort of withthe CEA schedule that free estimate online at
(24:22):
certapro dot com. Once again theofficial painting partner of the Houston Astros,
so they also know how to win. Sort of pro painters. That's happy
painting. And with the Seawn Salisburyshow continued a lot of hitters for the
Astros getting hit by the Twins, and then Spencer Arraghetti threw one up and
(24:45):
into Carlos Correa hit him on thehand. Korea had to leave the game.
Well. Ord On Alvarez was oneof those guys that was hit.
He was held out of the gameyesterday. Ball hit like right on the
backside of his right knee. AndI know, I know you know a
thing or two about knee injury,Sean, but a ball hitting you coming
(25:08):
in at ninety miles an hour righton the back side of the knee does
not feel good. He said afterthat game. My knee is pretty inflamed
right now at the moment I gothit in the same spot. There are
a couple of weeks ago in theinformation of that hadn't fully gone away.
My knees in a lot of painright now. But we'll see how I
feel tomorrow, which was yesterday obviouslywas not in the game. Sucks when
you're on missus action. However,I don't think it's too serious. And
(25:34):
what's his name, Josel Tuve alsogot hit. He got hit in the
hand. He came out of thegame, but he was okay. I
think he pinch hit if I'm notmistaken. Well, We don't want Jordan's
bruise to be Kyle Tucker's bruise. You feel me, Kyle Tucker's still not
still not playing. I don't seehow you're seeing him before they all start
(25:55):
out, which to me, Yeah, you're I'm going to say something,
dude, there is no way thatthis is just a bone Bruce. It's
I'm telling you, I said ita couple of weeks ago. This thing
has got to be a hairline fracture. There's no way. Once it gets
to two week, two, twoweeks, three weeks that bone Bruce and
(26:15):
I I just can't There's got tobe some kind of structural situation there.
I just can't fathom that. Howmany what's it been, man? Over
a month? Yeah, I'm sayingby the All Star break, will it
be like six weeks? Let's see. Let me let me pull up his
I mean, now, maybe maybeit is, But I can tell you
this, that's uh that that thatbone bruise is about a severe bone bruise
(26:41):
as you'll ever see in your life. Yeah, it's it's because it's not
a bone bruise. I'm telling you, there's no way. I'm not I'm
not uh I'm not buying it either, just just for me. It seems
to me it's got to be morethan a bone, Bruce, but THO,
I know, I'm not a doctor. The last time he appeared in
action was Monday, June third,so we oh, it'll be it will
(27:03):
be six weeks by the time ofbreak. Yeah, I don't think do
you have any is he doing? If he's not doing any baseball stuff other
than hitting off a tee, Idon't know if that changed over the weekend.
I did not pay one bit ofattention to what they were saying about
Kyle Tucker over the weekend on Idon't do a whole lot of social media
during holidays or over the weekend.I don't or read much about it.
(27:26):
It'd appear I don't see how he'splaying between now and he's Yeah, neither
him. I believe Brian McTaggart reportedhim or chandlerh I'm trying to find it
that that's not gonna happen. Yeah, him and Justin Verland are both.
Yeah. Well, I didn't expectVerlander back by then. No, So
it's, uh, let's hope theyget back sooner than later. And it's
it's a tribute to the Astros thatthey've been able to do this and hang
(27:49):
in there and put themselves in thisposition with quite frankly, two of their
best players, you know, obviouslynot playing and haven't been playing for quite
some time. So there you have, what are at two out? Yeah?
Two out right now? Yeah,So so Joe's botty yesterday giving a
(28:11):
couple of updates. Verlander playing catchevery other day. Jake Bloss the kid
that skipped double A and came upand made a start and then had to
go on the io with some shoulderinflammation. He threw fifty five pitches in
a rehab start Sunday. Excuse me, Saturday night. Kyle Tucker said,
quote, he's feeling pretty good.End quote. But it looks like trying
(28:33):
to go back through all my notesfrom long long weekend, Yeah, looks
like Joe spot also reported that KyleTucker would not be back before the All
Star break. So that's one hellof a bone bruise, you know,
It's the most effective or most impactfulbone bruise on somebody I've seen in baseball
on long time, especially for aguy who was going to be an MVP
(28:56):
and an All Star here we go, an MVP candidate and an All Star.
So Tucker jogged on the fifth andhis this is coming from Joe spot
of saying, quote, his hittinglooks pretty good. He actually looks like
he's pushing that leg, turning theleg. He played catch again. End
quote. He's hitting off of apitching machine, but not high ve low.
So still no sign of Kyle Tuckeror Justin verlind Luis Garcia and getting
(29:23):
ready for his third rehab starts. So who do we see first? Uh,
Kyle Tucker. That's a dumb question. What Tucker, Verlander or Garcia?
Yeah, that's yeah, it'll betough. Actually, I don't know
he's going. Verlander will be thelast of the three, I think so.
(29:47):
I think that's my opinich. Yeah, you wanted in my opinion on
the other one that's supposed to becoming back to Lance Collers Junior. I
bet we don't see him this year. I bet if you're lucky September,
I bet you're lucky. I betwe don't see him. I I would
not. I would not take thebet because I'd lean on your side.
If you said, sean over underOctober first, I'll take the over,
yeah, which means which means andif you said over under this season or
(30:11):
next season, I'd take the overunders is this season, I'd take the
over. Yeah, and saying it'dbe next year. Yeah, I don't.
I have not doubted that one bitabout Yeah that I don't think there's
any way in hell you get himbefore September. And I think you'd be
fortunate to get him some time inthere. My opinion, we don't see
him right this year. Yes,I I I when they said there can
(30:33):
when when Dana had been on hereand I asked him and he said,
we're counting on Garcia and mccullor's Iunderstand. I'd have taken the fifty percent
of that. Yeah, you gottabe counting on Garcia because he's making it
back faster. I would not anticipatethat Lance mccullors is going to be back
either this year. I didn't thinkit from the get go. Yeah,
I didn't think it from the getgo. It's an unfortunate injury, but
(30:55):
it's been a while since we seenhim and don't think you're going to see
him anytime soon. Yeah, whatlate October of twenty twenty two. Yeah,
that'd be that'd be just a hugebonus if he was back to pitch.
Think about it and pitching, andwhat do you expect from You can't
expect him going through and throw ninetypitches? Yeah, I ain't doing that,
right, he's gonna be a bullpeah, Well what would he even provide?
Right? And what would he Andyou're not gonna get rid of some
of your bullpen guys like Scott, guys who have showed up and kicked ass
(31:18):
this year and quite frankly at timeskept you afloat. Yeah, yeah,
you're not gonna just implement a guythat hasn't that you don't know about two
right? Yeah, production over Yeah, yeah, I'll take that p word
all day long. All right, let's look at let's look at the updated
standings in baseball. It's been along holiday weekend. A lot of movement
(31:41):
going around in the al West istake a look at it. Next in
Sportstock seven to eighty, the SewanSalisbury Show continues. And no, now,
you know almost a million people withoutpower, right, around nine hundred
and sixty six thousand people without power? I know, Sean for me driving
and I was seeing transformers blow leftand right, especially when I got closer
(32:05):
to the city of Houston and thosetransformers weren't robots in disguise transformers, I
was robots in disguise. Like youguys know that that cartoon, right,
that show? You know that's athat's with cartoon, right, it was
the it was the Transformers cartoon. That's how the that was like the uh,
the what do they call them? What do they call music to a
(32:28):
commercial? The jingle? Yeah, transformers robots in disguise. Yeah, those
transformers that are exploding ain't transit You'reall of a sudden, Shia La Buff
ain't popping out with Megan Fox doingthings. Okay, that's real stuff.
Yeah, I'll tell you what thatthat that series, all those movies went
downhill after you got rid of ShilahBuff and Megan Fox. Facts. I'm
(32:51):
not trying to watch Mark Mark,I'm not trying to watch Mark Wahlberg in
there. I like Mark Wahlberg, but you're trying to watch Shila off there.
Yeah, he was much better.Wasn't John Seen in one of those?
Or was that is that fast nineteenJohn John cheesna I mean Sena speaking
of John Seen, A big newsover the weekend some wrestling news. Yeah,
(33:12):
making a comeback or something anymore.Oh yeah, he's been around.
He came back like last year.Twenty twenty five gonna be his last year
in WWE wrestle career, WrestleMania andLas Vegas in March of twenty twenty five
will be his last anything. Likea musician, that's just chatter, and
he'll come he'll make back any comeback, Yeah, like comeback again. George
George straight George Strait's last concert,I mean last ride concerts he was,
(33:37):
he was fifteen years ago. Thesame with Elton John's this say, last
time you're going to see him?So what do we all do? We
run to buy tickets and then whatdo we all get about nine months later?
New tour, New tour. Yeah, I can guarantee you see is
not done on this one. Yeah, dude, come back. You got
(33:57):

I love seeing I'll tell you whata trimmer a trimmor John c of these
days? Yeah he is. He'snot wearing headbands on his biceps anymore.
Yeah, little Johnny's do you thinkabout that? Johnny trimmed down for his
acting career. Yeah, you suredid less sauce, Nona. Let me
(34:22):
think about this, all thatt myman was wearing headbands on his biceps.
All natty. He was wearing aheadband on his biceps. I know it
is, you know that all natty? Yeah, there's all natty man.
Good for him, Just a lot, a lot of dedication on a hard
work. Lot of commercials on TV, doesn't both a lot of commercials both
(34:45):
very very natural. Don't ever hatea man for all that? Oh yeah,
the aforehead made grol six inches betterthan that noticecount. It's like a
scar set, Yeah, exactly. What's a big deal? Yeah no,
but you know what, all powerto those who making coin don't get paid.
I mean, good for that.I have never get a wallet.
Good for them, yeah, no, no question about it. Good for
them. Seven But there you know, I want to have what they're having,
(35:08):
Okay, if I want to getjacked up in ye little winnie,
a little winnie, maybe that's thecut up. Isn't that the cut up
drug? So yeah, allegedly that'swhat the word I was treated. Right,
that's yeah, we don't but goodfor that. Good for John.
He'll make a comeback. Though it'snot his last. Yeah, you guys

one of your wrestling buddies over andwe'll we'll sticky right out there in the
backyard and we'll make them we'll makea use to make a mud pile,
and you guys get after it.I got plenty of them. Yeah,
I I never I've never watched wW what do they call it, the
Mega what do they call the bigthe big one at the end of the
(35:50):
year. I mean they're they're thebig win during the year, like WrestleMania.
Yeah, that's John Kay And wherewas that in Vegas? Yeah,
I've never seen wrest My kids did, and I did it, but I
I bought it for him. ButI've never sat and watched it. I've
seen bits and pieces, but I'venever set it from start to finish.
Watch wrestling. If you want towatch pure its real. I know it's
real, really is, I knowit is. So I got to get
used to this real stuff. Iknow it's crazy. You want to watch
(36:12):
pure athleticism, man cinema? Yeah, artistry? I know it it really,
But the truth is list lifted athree hundred pounds man over your head,
uh huh and standing pressing him.Yeah, is actually pretty impressive in
like a speedo. Yeah yeah,well that's I mean. But who's paying
attention below the waist? Well someof you are, you might be.
(36:34):
It's doctor Roger, Roger. Welcomein out, tripley. Can you punch
him up for me, please?Roger? What's going on? Hello,
good morning fellas of everybody? See, well right now we are Roger,
right now, Roger, Roger. There we go, there you go.
Yeah, we got the we gotthe group Texan email from working. Everybody's
staying home. You guys are stayinghome today. Yeah, I'm here.
(36:57):
My wife try to go out andbear and and and the making instead of
drowning. She turned around, cameback soft. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
don't let me hear you say thatman grab me from the from the
function where he said grabbing like FreddyKruger. Anyway. Uh so, guys,
(37:23):
y'all got a spoil man man talkshow radio talk Uh, national posits
when you guys were gown were justabsolutely brutal. Man. These guys were
talking about cause I would. Iwould come on and off, you know,
I would check to see what wason, just to see if any
local guys were back on. Andthey're talking about hot dog eating and the
(37:43):
process of doing the hot dog eatingfor like hours. Man, I would
come back and they're still on thesame and these are national guys. I'm
like, wow, what what whathappened? I mean, and even that
or you that are all Bronnie talkLittle Bronnie and and and lebron talk.
It was, man, I wasjust like, we hope, we hope
we bring you more than the thankyou for graphic horrific. Man. Yeah,
(38:05):
man, you guys don't okay, more the stories, No more vacations
on on holidays, stay tuned anywho. Uh so, yeah, I
I really think the astros, youknow, they they they have gone back
into car competition mode. It's gonnabe a little back and forth battle between
Seattle and and and our astros.I'm thinking, you know, with with
(38:29):
the poor black positions they've done overthe summer, and I don't know who's
to blame. And I'm not gonnablame both. That's already done. Uh.
It looks like haters become the secondcompany of Mitch Williams. I just,
I just I don't understand why hekeeps on give up these bombs,
just like every other time it getsout of the field. Uh. And
and we're gonna have to acquire somehelp if we push us over the hump.
(38:52):
And I just can't stand sometimes,Dana Brown. You know, I
know he's actually got to be apart of a politician. And you gotta,
you know, kind of caress youknow, Finans's situation when he gets
on air and talks to the people. But the way he insults are intelligence
is a little bit of alarming. You know, you can't say that with
the straight face that if we geta Louis starts seeing back in the fold,
(39:13):
and we get a h MC color'sback and and and you know,
you can't just say with a straightface, oh, that's just like acquiring
a major arm. I said,you don't even know what they're gonna be
like when they came back to comingback from injury. You're not coming back
from vacation or you know, sixweeks of suspension or whatever. It's not.
They're coming back from injury. Youcan't you don't know what Hey,
(39:35):
Roger, real quick though, whathe did that. He did though,
admit when I asked him if itwas a world serious team, he admitted,
he thinks our playoff team, Imean, they can make the playoffs
with who they where they are now, but he admitted they're going to have
to do something to be a worldserious team. He did say that,
so yeah, okay, yeah,I think he understands. I understand he
has to protect his team and thathe's a GM. Of course, we
all look after our own, butI think realistically he realizes that there's gonna
(40:00):
have to be something done for themto be a world series threat. And
he he said so much on thison this show. I agree, I
agree, And what would what we'veestablished, what we've done with Al Tucker
for most of the part, formost of this run. It is absolutely
amazing that that that just tells youhow the depth of the team and and
and what they're what their boxie islike when when the chips are on the
(40:22):
table, Hey man, you gottafight and team, you gotta you gotta
do your part as a GM toto help them along the wing. And
that's all I got. Tell usstay drive, say uh stay uh,
stay safe and uh we'll see whathappens this week. Appreciate you brother,
you too, thanks for the callman and the compliment. That's nice.

(42:37):
Lobos. This is the Sean SalisburyShow. Iwall starting to make its way
closer and closer to the west sideof Houston. Hope everyone is hanging in
there, hunkering down. It madelandfall at about I don't know, four
o'clock this morning as a Category onehurricane, winds upwards of eighty five ninety
(43:01):
miles an hours, moving north attwelve miles per hour. As of right
now, it looks like the eyeis coming on shore. Crazy stuff.
Man. Is it about forty milesaway from Katie or something? Yeah,
it was weird this morning. It'slike blown doors off and stuff feels like
it. Yeah, and nothing worsethan when you got a Cat one hurricane
(43:22):
and then tornados are mixed in withit and then flooding, and then the
surge is growing by the you know, by the minute. Yeah, it's
the dangerous doing not literally by theminute. You get a dangerous storm.
Surge is mounting. Man, youpeople on the coastline to everybody be safe,
(43:45):
But boy, what a We knowwhat this felt like in twenty seventeen,
which I don't hopefully it's nothing likethat, but no, gracious any
but you know what when you saya million people with that power and it's
going to be humid and hot whenall this is done. How long in
and for people to be able toget to those power boxes and do the
things they gotta do. Tough sleddingManhugh. Yeah, it looks like the
(44:07):
eye wall of hurricane barrel is directlyover Bay City right now moving north.
Looks like Rosenberg is going to getthe eye wall in about ten minutes or
so. So again, we hopeeverybodys staying savee in hunker next morning due
that path with that wind blowing isright through my crib. Yeah, you're
(44:27):
gonna the eye wall is going tobe at your place soon. Yes,
literally literally literally, you jump overand go go the back way on fourteen
sixty three. Do we joke aboutabout the parade? Uh huh across over
ten ninety three and three fifty ninearea and head back into Rosenberg over there
by like Foster, you know, the Foster High School over that that I
mean you're talking about direct direct pathcraziness man, Be safe. I hope
(44:55):
I'm going home to doors on myhouse. As long as those punk ass
kids aren't out playing in the greenBelt they don't want that, I'll turn
Kilo loose on him. Cool ScoobyDoo on their ass. Oh man,
Yeah, I'd have made it throughthe fireworks if it was for you Metaling
(45:16):
kids. You a punk ass kids. That's right, Tripley. Did you
make any bets over the weekend?I did not? What born weekend man
Sean Triple Man goes and gets anedge up, nice little twists. You
didn't look at that man fresh cut, but he doesn't make any any of
these games over the weekend. Ididn't, Triple He's like, well,
(45:42):
if I can get my my vehicleback to the crib after this show,
look at it, Triple You didn'twant to rock the man bun today.
It's still not long enough, dude. You got to understand, man Bun.
You can't have a two inch manbun. He could trimmed it up
a little bit. Needs a littlemore growth there to really rocket. When
was the last time you had yourtwist out? Which meant like, uh
(46:05):
like full on out, like youdidn't have twist Michael fro Yeah, yeah,
yeah, it's been about a year. Damn. One of these days
we're going to see that Oscar gamble. He is going to walk in one
one random day, fro flowing.I can't take it. I look forward
to it. You think you arecan't wait? I probably will one day
for a good washing, like toactually wash in my roots. But no
(46:29):
time soon. He's dealing with thehurricane. Can you leave his Can you
leave this twist and leave the manalone? Yeah? Good gracious? You
want to know what Roe Blanco's dealingwith because I know you call him row?
I do I call him row?All Star snub. Yeah. I
really thought that he and Scott bothdeserved to be a part of it,
didn't you? Absolutely? I meanwhat he's eight and three with like a
(46:51):
little over a two e r A. Taylor, Scott's got damn near a
one e r A. And Ithink about this, listen. I know
emotion doesn't come into it. There'ssome guys who get voted in base on
their Lifetime Achievement Award. There justis. And each team has to have
a representa right. And I've saidthe American League's lineup is fair for the
mode that started. I mean, you go through it, and I you
know, I get it. Ithink they did a pretty damn good job
(47:15):
of picking the starters. I justhere's a guy who's thirty who's never been
full time starting rotation who's had tokeep the team. The two guys you
just mentioned, and quite frankly pitchinghave been as important to this pitching staff
as anybody this year. The waythat they've pitched. You got a guy
(47:36):
who's been on seven teams and sevenyears, the reliever who's coming here and
solidified where you've needed him to useup innings and not just use up innings
for just using up innings, butget people out. And then you got
a guy who you lost your cyYoung you know, MVP pass guy who's
been here in Justin Berlander fromber isa dow Jones aer. He's been up
(47:57):
and down. Javier out, Erkatiout, mccullors out, Garcia out.
I'm going to tell you without thosetwo guys right now, you'd be nine
games out of first place. Ibelieve that. Think what they've done to
either stop or continue out with TaylorScott's I mean that may be a little
hyperbolic saying seve their worst seven games, but they may very well be.
(48:20):
And to do what they've done, and considering both of the that were their
careers have been projected to and whatthey've overcome, you got a thirty year
old starter, first time in rotation, deserves to be there, especially for
a team that needed him to keepthem afloat. There's been more pressure on
Blanco and then with all the stuffgoing on at the back end and getting
rid of guys this and bringing aguy who Listen, when you bring a
(48:42):
guy and who's been on seven teamsin seven years, what do you expect
you're getting from him an eight teamin eight years? Yeah, and he
has really come in here and donea fantastic job. I don't usually buy
into like when an ended, well, the guy got snubbed. I always
say, well, if you're gonnatake a guy, if you're not to
give a guy an All Star birth, you're gonna and then who you taken
out for him? Right? Intruth, those two know you owe them
(49:07):
if they'd have made it. There'sno apology or explanation necessary. There is
an explanation necessary for why they didn'tmake it. Somebody's gonna get snubbed all
the time. But considering the circumstancesand where they were and all the injuries
that these two have had to quitefrankly jump in and do their gig and
(49:28):
times ten, I think it quitefrankly, the snub is is real on
both of them. I do.I don't think Scott's got enough publicity and
I think that's part reason why him. But Blanco it was a no brainer.
I get the reliever thing, it'sthe first time and journeyman. They
kind of hold that against him.But Blanco's first time start. How's that
(49:49):
guy? Considering what the starters havegone through on this roster, both of
them, But how's he for surenot on this starting There's a time when
you could have made a case fordamn you could run him out there first
if you wanted to. I justI think it was it's and who knows
what kind of seasons they're gonna havegoing forth. This was a perfect time
to reward two guys who have beenstellar for the Houston Astros this year.
(50:10):
So Corvin Burns, tark Schooble,Tayner, Howck, Garrett Crochet, Seth
Lugo all made the All Star teamvia the player ballot, and you know
what, no argument. Logan,Gilbert, Tyler, Anderson were selected by
the league and the only representatives fromtheir team, and then Cole Reagan's was
selected to the team by Major LeagueBaseball. Listen to Cole Reagan's stats here,
(50:30):
Sean, I saw him and youfor the Royals. He's five and
six with a three point two eighte r Renel Blanco eight and three with
a two point five to three er RA. Can't give me the well,
they have to have a representative fromevery team because they already have one.
You know what the name is,Bobby Wich. I'll say Bobby with
junior so it makes zero sense. And try try to explain that to me.
(50:53):
And I know Kansas City's played abovetheir head this year. Yeah,
but the Astros, you could makethe argument, considering what they've been through
on a pitching staff, have nobusiness being two games out of first place,
considering all the injuries. And thisguy's been nothing. He's had what
maybe two times this year where hesaid, well, he wasn't very good.
(51:13):
Other than that, he's been ahe's been a gold mine for this
team. Yeah, he got hostman wild host completely. What what does
Major League Baseball see that Cole Reagan'sshould start or not start, should be
on the team over renewe Blanca AllStar Game needs some ramping up again.
Didn't you like it when the managerspicked all the pitching, yeah I miss
I miss a lot about and thehome run derby, yeah I miss all
(51:34):
that. You know what else Iwant? I want to go back where
your own uniform. Game could notagree more. Stop with the the gaudy
stuff because you're trying to sell morememorabilia across the league in merch and stuff.
Go back to the day when you'rea Houston Astro you wear the Astros
uniform and a Red Sox uniform. That was really that, you know what.
All Star games were far more competitivethan too, even though it's an
(51:55):
exhibition. Yeah. I just tome, let's go back to you represent
that team in that city. Idon't need everybody wearing the same one.
Wear them all go back. Ifyou do nothing else, let them wear
their hat and their uniform in theAll Star Game. I'm with you.
I liked it a lot better. Then let's get to the stake out next
right here on Sports Talk seven ninetyCountry Boys roofing locally owned and operated company.
(52:21):
They're not storm chasers. Listen, locally owned and operated matters. It
just does. And we are instorm season and you know they're not going

Sports Talk seven ninety. Astros fallto the Twins yesterday. They're off today,
back in actually tomorrow at Minim Parkagainst the Marlins. All Star teams
announced in Major League Baseball Kyle Tucker, Jose al two, Vanyard on Alvarez.
Are your all Stars for the Astrosseven to one, three, two
(54:57):
point two five, seven ninety thenumber to join, Chris. Are you
in Florida right now? I amnot. I am actually at home in
Arkansas, just worried about all mypeople in Houston. I just want to
give a shout out to y'all forworking during the hurricane. That's definitely an
excuse to not work. I hopey'all are safe, but I just wanted
(55:19):
to call and, uh, becauseI you know, yesterday I was on
the boat and I saw the theAll Star lineup and how Scott and Blanco
did not make it when they werenot even supposed to be on the roster.
They were on there because of injuries, and they have pitched better than
anybody on that team or in theleague, I think, So it really
(55:40):
it really rubbed me the wrong waythat they weren't on the All Star team.
So but I'm gonna hang up andlisten to y'all's reaction on that.
Pray, Chris, thank you forchecking in. Very nice compliment, and
you are one spot on. Theywere during spring training, had to fight
(56:00):
to make a roster spot where theywere in Blanco, no doubt a better
shot then, but there was noroom. There's no room. And not
only do you make the roster,he's been their most consistent, best picture,
no question deserved it. And thenScott, like I said, he's
the He's the picture of a journeymanin the dictionary. And sometimes you just
(56:24):
never know where it's going to click, and it is clicked here. And
I can make an argument you couldchoose either one of those guys as your
full season even though they don't playevery day, and give them some kind
of an award, an MVP award, or whatever it is you do to
both those guys. They've been outstanding. Goodness that better than you did,
(56:44):
my man, You are spot on. Snubs sometimes are overrated because we played
the homework card. If you're sittingin Pittsburgh or you're sitting in Arlington,
you're sitting in Seattle, you're sittingin Minnesota, Boston. You damn well
know that those two guys deserve tomake the All Star team absolutely period.
(57:05):
A lot of times like oh youdid, Come on, man, two
guys are equal. You don't givea guy a less than five hundred record
who wouldn't have just been the onlyAll Star representative a spot on a team
where the best pitcher on the teamthat's two games out of first place and
has had all these injuries over al Blanco period makes you want to It
(57:25):
makes you almost feel like it's personal, you know what I'm saying, Like
this is just a dig on theAstros. I hope it's not. But
if two guys ever deserved it,and considering that they're where their careers have
been and where they've brought them toand what they've done, yeah, this
is I'm as pissed off about thisas I am about the home run yesterday.
(57:47):
I am. I know it's aloss in the All Star Games and
an exhibition, but I can tellyou right now to Scott and to Renelle
Blanco, no matter what they tellyou, deep down in places they may
never talk to you about up.That has to hurt deep because you never
know how many times you're gonna makean All Star team. And that's telling
you, for that year you wereone of the best players in baseball.
(58:07):
And they both deserve it. Sowhile it may not be the win matters
more in the big scheme of things, but somewhere along the line, both
these guys are gonna say, man, and who knows what kind of seasons
they're gonna have next year or theyear after. I'm a big guy on
rewarding guys for what they did,not for their Lifetime Achievement award, and
both these guys this year should havebeen rewarded with an All Star birth.
(58:28):
Yeah, I'm gonna say it again. Cole Reagan's selected by Major League Baseball
for the ALE All Star Team fiveand six with a three point two to
eight e er A. Renel Blancoeight and three with a two point five
to three a e r A.You can't tell me, and you can't
sit here and say, oh,Cole Reagan's is on a bad team.
(58:49):
The Kansas City Royals are forty nineand forty three right there trying to hunt
down the Cleveland Guardians. And MinnesotaTwins in that al Central and Bobby on
it, so it's not like hewould have been your only repers. Yeah,
Kansas City Royals are a game anda half back of the wild Card.
They are forty nine and forty threethe ASTs of forty six and forty
four. I don't want to hearit. It's criminal. It is absolutely
(59:10):
criminal that Cole Reagan's was selected overanel BLOCKO. It's BS. I almost
dropped it. I'mosa set it ridiculous, man. I don't know what Major
League Baseball needs to do to havetheir voting revamped, just like their Hall
of Fame process, but something's gotto change. And also you saw it.
(59:32):
Did you see by chance the rulesthat they kind of tweaked some rules
for the home run derby so youget a maximum amount of cuts now during
the home run derby rather than justgoing back to the old school way.
Nope, didn't see it. I'mabout home run derby it out. Once
you tell me they have aluminum batchfor the home run derby, I'll go
(59:54):
back to paying attention to it again. Gunner Henderson's gonna be in it.
You have Alec Bohm, Pete Alonzohow many has he done? Pete Alonzo
loves that and that's like his baby, he freaking loves it. I mean
he's done. Seems like he's donelike five of them, right, gotta
(01:00:15):
be more than that. Oh,they made some Uh. It's aimed at
reducing frantic pace. So you'll havelet's see, you get a maximum amount
of what forty cuts? I believeforty eighth Oh wait, that's that's the
average. Yeah, maximum of fortypitches. I'm sorry, So what does
(01:00:38):
that mean? So you get fortypitches, there's no time clock on them
now, No, So within eachplayer's timed round, the hitter is going
to see a maximum of forty pitches, similar to how there is a maximum
number of basketball shots in the NBAthree point Contest. But so there is
still a time wrong? Correct?Yeah, but is there more time in
it? No, they're the sametime. Okay, So then how is
that maximizing their I'm trying to figureare what he putting more pressure on the
(01:01:00):
picture? What does that help? The hitters have three minutes in each of
the first two rounds and two minutesin the championship round. I guess it's
gonna it's to make them not beas frantic with the accelerated pace. So
you're trying to get at the sametime zone. Yeah, at the same
(01:01:21):
time. Okay, so what ifyou only get twenty eight swings in because
you're taking your time, that's onI guess the way they look at it,
that's on you. I don't likethe timed round. I did it
first. I'm over it now.I miss watching Mark McGuire hit four hundred
and fifty foot bombs in where wecan actually admire it and just look and
have Chris Berman go back back back, back, back, back back,
gone. I miss that the majesticbombs. I don't miss the back,
(01:01:43):
back, back, back back.I've heard that enough. I mean,
has a stray Chris Burma. No, it's not on Burman. Okay,
it's just it's on the home runcall. It's great, but it's great
the first few times. I don'tneed it for every home run call.
That's my point, where it's likeseventy five times I I I would little
much for me. I would ratherhear that than he now. I love
(01:02:07):
Carl Ravag as a studio guy,but as a play by play guy.
This this may sound crazy, buthe sucked. He's annoying as hell,
and the fact that he continues toget so many big games for baseball pisses
me off. I want to upjust paying College World Series? Why am
I listening to Carl Ravage the CorlWorld's College World Series? Put Gus Johnson
on the home run? Could youimagine you might as well put Joel Klatt
(01:02:30):
over there too. It'd be aclassic man watching him do it. But
there why I love and I doI love him, but back back,
back, back back. I getwhy you'd wanted more now, but after
a while, it's like every homerun doesn't have to be back backpack.
There can be you know what I'msaying. I think it got to the
players like him, and I meanEDWARDO Perez, like on the come on
(01:02:51):
man, little fatigue when it's likeit's fatigue with all of it, right,
I just I know we gotta goto break, but man, I
something else got to spice up.So I'm still trying to figure out what
you're telling me. Aren't you stillfrantic with forty? I mean get maximum
forty swings? Yeah? So youbecause if you take more time in between
swings, you're not going to getto your maximum forty you want to beat
(01:03:12):
the other guy anyway, Right,So what if you're four down with a
minute to go and you're at twentyfive swings? You're going to be frantic,
are you not? Yeah? SoI don't understand the And now you're
putting what more pressure on the pitcherto throw early strikes? I guess you
mean, Oh, you mean theguy who's not a player? That guy?
Okay, I got you. Yeah, let me ramp it up aluminum
(01:03:34):
bats, Okay, going on.Listen, a ball coming off the bat
at one hundred and eighteen hits youin the forehead, or a ball coming
off at one forty eight hit youin the four they're both gonna hurt.
Well, you know what I mean. If you want to add, we'll
get those dipstick kids off the damnfield anyways, right, How many dorks
are out there running around there andthen they get smacked in the face anyways.
Yeah, And if you're in theoutfield and you decide you want to
(01:03:54):
be out there for a lined, that's on. You enter at your own
risk. If you want to seefive hundred foot home runs, you'll see
them. Yeah, you'll see them, say that's more about distance than than
numbered out. Yeah, you knowwhat distance Let them Let them swing the
old B E S R. Batsand not this bs BB core dude,
even aluminum period. He's gotta gowhere I want to. But you let
(01:04:15):
him swing the old school. I'msaying, a serious college bats. I'm
saying the old B S R Sdude, six hundred footers. Yeah,
just get the but I'm all forit. Just get the goofy kids.
And I want a cameraman and aguy out and beyond the left both walls
where you could see in the landsin the parking lot. Yeah, how
many windshields it chatters. Yeah, that's what I want to say. Put
buster on these dork ass out there. See if you have a lot of
(01:04:36):
a lot of strays from you onsome dorks. Yeah, there are a
lot of dorks out there, youknow what I mean? One of them?
Whoa it is though, dude?Is dork a good thing? No?
Some girl, some ladies, someof the zoids like dorks, do
they? Yeah? So what Idid word on the street triple can't confirm.
Okay, Well I guess that's howwe got to get the break.
(01:04:57):
That was the steak out. Imean, damn, I don't know what's
going on on. Let's get tobreak and let's look at the updated Major
league standings. Next, The SeanSalisbury Show continued. Zoids or the hoes?
You know what you Yeah? No, do you let them hose?
It's like the Garden Triple. Isit them hose or dem what do you
guys with? It's hose. It'sdim right, it's gotta be. So
(01:05:18):
what about you lack on something? We love them zoids or demzoids. It's
them zoids the dem hose. Whichone is? I think it's theids?
Yeah th h a, yeah,not th h E the zoids. Yeah,
I love the zoids gets so,yeah, that's what we've always said.
We never said you love demzoids, right right, there's always the zoids
(01:05:41):
them hose. Let's look it upon the Gospel Urban Dictionary. When you
say dem hose, dude, it'snot gonna be what you want to You're
not gonna want to read that.I'm sure you ready. You want me
to use it in a sentence?Yea per Urban Dictionary. Yeah, it's
here. Don't give me my chetta. It's gonna be a bad day if
(01:06:10):
demos. They give me my chetta, it's gonna be a bad day.
It's demn dog ting. I'm withyou, it's d e M right all
right? So what did you wantto circle back on baseball? I mean,
yeah, buster only Blanco snub majorsnub, but two Astros pictures.
(01:06:35):
Yeah, gotta get your chetta dog. Yeah, our peeps need a laugh
coming into Uh. If people areactually out there driving, you know,
that's another crazy thing is there wasquite a bit of people on the road
this morning. I was driving inwell it's time. My vehicle was going
(01:06:58):
from like the fast lane into theslild lad from the wind pushed across legs,
so I didn't hit the eighteen wheelsthe flashers on the whole time.
That's another thing. Stop driving withyour flashers on. We're all in the
same hurricane with you, jack it, don't you know, see I will
see I normally I'm with you.And like when it sprinkles, uh huh,
dude, when the water's going thatfast and you can your your wipers
(01:07:24):
can't keep up with it, andyou were driving in the fast lane and
all of a sudden you're the slowlane because of the wind. I I'm
okay with an eighteen with her puttestflashers on just in case. Normally if
that's not me, it's like comeon man, but you know, yeah,
and then you try to get bythem and your sandwich in between two
eighteen wheelers. You're playing bumper pump. Yeah, no, come out.
(01:07:49):
It's crazy. Man. I'm drivingin from the Woodlands and there's like brewery
trucks driving to work, like I'mnot gonna give you know, any free
pub but there were two different uhbreweries. You're talking about how they got
a drink there at their work.Started driving at four point thirty this morning
driving in, UH, so Ijust wanted to circle back real quick.
(01:08:12):
We're talking about the All Star Game, the home run Derby, and again
it's Renel Blanco was snubbed. ColeReagan's out of the team with a five
and six record three point two eightERA compared to Renel Blanco's eight and three
with a two point five three er A. But I digress from that.
Does this is always really like dorks? Oh yeah, I think that
that's what you're telling the ladies. They like nerds and dorks sometimes. Oh
(01:08:35):
yeah, Oh yeah, I thinkit gets to the point. You know,
they may try the guy who's mistercool breeze and all and and if
you want to ask him how coolhe is, I'll tell you that guy
you know who's wearing uh, youknow, sunglasses when it's dark night,
or you know, wearing a tanktop to a steakhouse. You know that
guy doing that, you know, just to show off because he's been jacked
(01:08:56):
up a little bit. You knowwhat I'm saying. Yeah, I'm just
you know, the cool cat.Yeah, and then the cool cat who
maybe takes you for granted at times. I think sometimes if if you've been
through it, you know enough forthe cool cat or the guy who's supposed
to be you know, mister popularis like in school, is not treating
people right. I think sometimes yougo to the dork because he treats you
(01:09:16):
right sometimes, Honestly, don't youagree? No, Honestly, I think
that the nerds and the dorks havea place for the zoid Sometimes I do
because I think they know that they'regoing to be loyal and honorable to him.
Not saying that the cool guy isn't, but I'm saying I think there's
this perception at times that if you'vehad difficulty, you know, you know,
whether it's you broke up with thepopular dude and you're like, man,
(01:09:41):
what's he want me for? Becauseyou know, maybe he looks at
me as zoid that maybe that thedork or we'll look at you is that's
the woman I want to spend therest of my life, and them to
treat you like a queen. Maybethat's the case. So I do get.
I think dork's pull just as muchmore than you can imagine. I
think that. I think I thinkdorks can pull more than you can imagine.
(01:10:01):
Oh I don't. I don't doubtit. I do. I think
I'm not putting enough respect. Idon't think you're respecting the dorks enough.
I think I'm not going to doit until you put respect on the beach
community. You always don't stray theguys that were cutoffs in tank tops.
I didn't say cutoffs, I saidtank tops at a steakhouse, you know,
because they want to if they wantto show up there, that's no
place for it. I don't needto see your pit hair. What if
(01:10:21):
you're trying to go get a gooda good batch of seafood from Joe's crapshack
down there by the beach. AndI think that's a great, great idea,
especially if everybody, you know,if it's just people are doing it,
then then that's have out. I'mnot a tank top guy, but
and and never really have been true. You know, mesh half shirt back
in high school on a practice fieldwhen yeah, you know, for practice,
(01:10:44):
I can spring practice. But yeah, I think the ladies would agree
that sometimes the dork, and sometimesthe dork turns out to be the cool
guy later on in life, youknow, like Bloomer. Yes, so
I think ladies, I think there'sa place for the dorks in life that
that I think dork. Some findit what's the cute, and some of
it because they know they'll be treatedright. Honestly, sometimes the cool guy's
(01:11:08):
got too many rides, right,So it's I mean, it's basically what
you're saying. Maybe a lot oftimes maybe a little maybe a little Yeah,
I don't think, Yeah, theone night stands usually not the dork,
right, although you may be sneaky. I think usually the one night
stand is the or when I saythe the it's not even the one night
stand. What do I call it? The where you're date but not marry,
or go out with but not married. I think the dork's the Marion
(01:11:30):
type for something. I think there'ssome who look at it like that,
like you whoa, No, Iwas gonna whoa. I was gonna say,
you're a DORKNA say you know, you may lose out to a dork
once in a while. Could happen. Sometimes you got to take we all
have we just two of us hasn'tlost out. Hell, I would probably
think I got some some dork inme at times, I think exactly,
(01:11:54):
especially with his weather stuff to theTV. Right. So, but I
think the dorks that they embrace it. And you know, it's all about
being treated right both ways, becauseI think there's dorky women to the guys,
say, you know what, she'sgoing to turn out to be a
star. She's gonna care about me, She's not gonna cheat on me.
I'm sure dorks cheat too. I'msure you know what I'm saying. You
(01:12:15):
know, just just just loyal customer. Man. Man, you feel me,
no, but you know I don't. I'm just a messenger. I
know, I know, I'm justa messenger. I mean, you know,
it's like Uh, I'm either coolnor dork. I'll probably fall somewhere
in between. You're you're a nutjob, is what you are? Well,
they're Fair's completely a category and Idon't deny that, No, you
embrace it. It's like Will Smithand JD. Pigott Smith don't ever compare.
(01:12:40):
That's nutjob city. I'm not thatkind of nutjob. Okay, not
that kind of nut job, littlewacko and stuff, but I'm not.
I'm not that kind of nut jobnutjob to be married to her, and
she's a full blown wacko. She'sin her own category. Well, she
just cheats on her husband and theway she talks about she just playing flat
(01:13:00):
out disrespectful to him. Okay, just his Yeah, that's a whole another
whole category. So there you go. Just like you know, the baseball
disrespected Renee Blanco and Taylor Scott toosnubbed, no doubt, snubbed alert the
press, yep, put it outand put it out in the Houston Chronicle
today. Yep, forget this hurricanebarrel Renel Blanco snub Taylor Scott's snub.
(01:13:21):
That's you on the front page. And I think that the hurricane is probably
gonna probably gonna be first on theon the thing. We're your orange blue
glasses. Man. I'm just Ijust we gotta protect our peeps. Man.
All I'm saying is, every timea hurricane hits the city Houston,
the Astros make it to the WorldSeries and win it. So playing the
parade, brother, Yeah, wellas long as FM fourteen sixty three still
(01:13:45):
there when I get home. Yeah, and that washed out, so we
can still have it. If wehave the parade, there are you gonna
allow fireworks? Yeah, the onetime that we all expected, not four
days after not till so dogs arerunning up and down the street wondering why
I got to deal with it fivedays in rows Thatady just won. Yeah,
not July six. Yeah. Allright, Well let's get to break.

half back of the Al East, but they are in the third wild card
spot. Oh yeah, don't don'tkid yourself. I'm I love the Red
Side. I would have never hadthem considering talk about a team that's like
over achieve their pitching staff's been reallygood. Yeah, and we you know,
Nino Devers can rake And there wasa lot of gamesmanship over the weekend
(01:16:42):
with the Yankees, man and Iloved every every second of it. And
if you want to know how youcan get in Garrett Cole's head, guy
that jade, if his if hishead mad, if his head matched his
physical skill, you could never hithim. He is such a he's rabbit,
he's he's he's soft, yeah,just mentally solt, but he's so
physically good. Year he's kind ofa bitch. I would I don't think
(01:17:06):
there's you probably get lack of argument. But he's so good when he's you
know what I'm saying. He's sucha good pitcher. Yeah, but I
need I need a little more mentaltoughness, and I don't need it against
the red side. I'm good thatDevers is in his head and has been
for a while. So uh yeah, I'm excited about the socks so going
ever expected, dude, I hadthem nowhere sniff in the playoffs this year.
(01:17:27):
Going into uh Saturday of this pastweekend, the New York Yankees had
lost fifteen over the last twenty games. Are they are brother, Yes they
are. They are not playing well. Yeah, they're three and seven in
their last ten. They have fallenthree games back of the Baltimore Oriols in
the Ale East, right, andthe Red Sox are going north and they're
headed south, meaning the Yankees, and they it was it's going to be
(01:17:48):
a hell of a race in thatdivision as well, no doubt. Yeah,
Rafael Devers hitting a tank off ofGarrett Cole, getting Garret Cole all
fired up and just kind of actlike a like a little bitch. Oh
well, Devers, Devers owns him, dude. He can't get Rafael Devers
out. No, No, hesure check him out his first at bat
(01:18:09):
this past weekend and then his swingingI think was a swing he hit he
homered off him, and it was, I mean, he ripped it.
He just every time he faces him, it's he's he's getting it. Got
a thousand hit this weekend too,and yeah, saw that cool. Yeah.
So looking at the AL East,it's the Baltimore Orioles leading that division.

City Royals nine back then here inthe Al West, the Seattle Mariners forty
nine and forty three leading the division, the Astros forty six and forty four,
just two games back, and thenthe Texas Rangers not very good here
lately forty two and forty eight. They are six game they have six games
(01:18:53):
below five hundred. Yeah, andnow you got to make sure you put
your foot on their throat when theyshow up to town and take three from
them right here in your building asyour last series heading into the All Star
Break, and extend that so theyjust say you can kind of push them
aside for now and not that they'llgo away. At some point in time.
They'll get hot again, but youwould like to make sure you take
(01:19:13):
care of that business and do it. And the fact that they're that they're
a big time rival would be anice way to go into the All Star
Break. But first you got todeal with who they got, Miami and
not Miami Miami first there for threeand then then obviously the right three and
take a little bit of a break. So it'll be fun to see Philadelphia
Phillies over in the aldist runt ofthese real quick as we get ready to
go to the eight o'clock hour.Phillies at fifty eight and thirty two.
(01:19:38):
They are pretty they are really frigginggood. Now. Yeah, you can
pitch, they can hit, theycan hit the long ball there. They're
got guts and they're they they thinkthey're good and they are good. They
they they If you said sean sevengame series Dodgers or Phillies to go,
yes, So I'm taking just onattitude alone. Yeah, Phillies. Yeah,
agreed, Yeah, you like thatthat Philly mindset a little bit over
(01:20:00):
the Dodgers. There's a little moremental toughness in my mind. Uh.
Atlanta Braves second in that division atforty nine and thirty nine in the Central
Milwaukee Brewers fifty three and thirty eight, Saint Louis at forty seven and forty
two, the Dodgers fifty five andthirty six. San Diego Padres forty nine
and forty five. That that ALor NL West division sucks. Yeah.
The Dodgers aren't exactly choppedliver though. They're pretty good. Oh they twenty what
(01:20:21):
do they say, they're nineteen gamesover five hundred or fifty five and thirty
six? Yeah, yeah, nineteen. Yeah, what uh do you think?
Uh, show how many bets overthe weekend? No, but bet
on him. When you look atthe MVP race in both leagues, I
mean, Otani's got a pretty goodlock on it, so does Anwer and
Aaron Judges. He's first in likeforty eight categories. Yeah, I mean
(01:20:45):
at the first half of the season. It's not it's not negotiable. Now,
Mookie Bets would have given his team. As a matter of fact,
he might have been the leader evenover Otani at one point. But him,
you know, with his injury.I'm just telling you, man,
the American League, Yeah, it'sa stone cold lock. Yeah's incredible.
What Aaron Judge doing this season sofar is insane. All Right, Let's
(01:21:05):
let's talk about that trade deadline, which is right around the corner. Let's
talk about all throughout Major League Baseball, and of course right here what the
Astros could do. But there areso many teams that are right there in
the hunt. What could that doto the market? Well, discuss the

the corner. I don't you probablydidn't see this, Seawan, as you
mentioned earlier, excuse me, nota lot of social media for you.
(01:24:28):
This past week on along holiday weekend, uh, there was a report that
came out about the Texas Rangers thatsaid rival executives expect the Rangers from this
per Bob Nightingale. By the way, rival executives expect the Rangers to make
Max Scherzer, Michael Lorenzen, AndrewHeeney, David Robertson, and Kirby Yates
available at the trade deadline. Theonly thing that's gonna stop him is a
(01:24:51):
dramatic turnaround. How about that?So dramatic turnaround in six games? Yeah?
Yes, Andy, couple after thetrade deadline. So yeah, about
twelve games you don't have a ifyou don't have a yeah, yeah,
that's good point because we always think, oh, all Star breaks, trade
deadline, it's really going to beabout what fifteen games after the All Star
(01:25:14):
break? You have what eight orten more before the end of July with
the August first, you know,so the July the drastic turnaround means what
you go win fourteen out of sixteenor whatever it is. Yeah, okay,
so if you start guess what ifyou're in the next six games before
the All Star break, you gotwo and six for two and four,
guess, So that means the dramaticturnaround ain't happening. Even if they do
(01:25:36):
have a turnaround, money wise, one or two of those guys are going
to be available. The question isare you jumping in on any of them?
If you're this team any tell youwhat I would Lorenz. No,
I'd take Nathan Valdi if they're willing. Oh yeah, he's a Texas boy
too, and he wouldn't I wouldn'tmind having that post season clutch too.
(01:26:00):
He's been really good. So,I mean, in all likelihood, if
the Astros are gonna want to go, try to make some kind of deal.
The teams are slim, few andfar between. Tampa Bay's thirteen games
out, Toronto's sixteen games out DetroitCleveland or excuse excuse me, Detroit and
Chicago they're both fifteen, and thenthe Chicago White Sox are abysmal thirty two
games out. The Angels and Athleticsover in the NL Nationals Miami, you
(01:26:28):
got Pittsburgh kind of hanging around,Cincinnati ten and a half back, Chicago
Cubs seven below five hundred, andthen you got the Giants, the Diamondbacks
and the Rockies. I mean, you got to you gotta find guys that
you want to that can that'll dancewith you essentially, right. Yeah,
I wonder if a team like Torontowould be willing to give up one of
(01:26:49):
their frontline starters. See. Butthen even in the like in the NL
Washington Cincinnati Pittsburgh, San Francisco Giants, the Mets and the Diamondback all within
five games actually, and the Cubsfive and a half games out of the
Wild Cars. So they're all goingto be fighting for a spot to the
playoffs. So those they're probably notgonna deal. They're gonna be buyers,
(01:27:10):
they say where they are, buysomething right. So in all likelihood,
you've got Detroit, Toronto, LosAngeles, Oakland, Chicago White Sox,
the Miami Marlins, and the ColoradoRockies. You got five between five and
six teams to tangle with, andmost people don't believe a superstar frontline guy
is going to be within reason togo get Sorry, now, who did
(01:27:32):
you mention that you would what aToronto Blue Jas would give up one of
their frontline starters to to you know, if they're talking about the Vlad Guerrero
thing, would you be willing toalso are you gonna part with would you
be willing to part with one ofyour frontline starting pitchers to to uh move
on from this? If you're ifyou're really if they if that's the talk,
(01:27:54):
Yeah, you mean like a Joseuh Brios, Yeah, Brios.
Chris Bassett or Kevin Gosman, Right, would you be willing to part with
one of those guys if you findyourself that man, this is just too
much for us to overcome, andit's time for us to bail on this
and be willing to part with onefor something else. The question for the
Asters is do they have enough aryou know, enough assets to go get
(01:28:15):
one of those big time frontline starters, which you'd have to give up.
And secondly, do you really wantto disrupt the way they're playing by giving
up? You're not going to giveup one of your Bregman's not going anywhere.
You don't want to give up pitching. I mean, I guess Presley
could be available. I don't know, but you're gonna give up something to
go and have to get something. So I don't think that's going to be
(01:28:36):
the case. So what are youwilling to give up? And then you're
gonna wouldn't you have to get intoa bidding war to get a guy like
Gosman out there? I mean, you'd have to give up some stuff,
man, And I don't think thatthey want to be in that position.
But I believe there's going to beyour second tier starter when I say second
tier guy who's good, But isn'tthat guy that you could go get that
(01:28:57):
could give you innings and give youstarts, especially while you for your staff
to get healthy. Yeah, Ijust I think cron is just an interesting
one to me because there they feellike they're on the teeter totter of do
we bail on all this or dowe still stay in it. I would
think that they would might make peopleavailable that they look like it's going to
be a long haul for them, doesn't it. Yeah, And they've been
(01:29:19):
underachievers for about four or five years. That was I was about to say
that they lead into the lead.Uh, they lead the world in underachieving
every single year, and and andoveremphasizing how all it's Toronto. We got
to pick them high. They're aWorld Series caliber roster, and somehow they
just continue to underachieve. When itgets to that point, you know,
(01:29:39):
Springer's not having a good year, there's some there's some there's some people that
may be moved there. I justwonder if pitching would be part of it,
and what would you have to giveup? And again, if there's
teams that are desperate, you're gonnahave to get into a bidding situation.
And I'm not sure that the Astroswant to do that right now. No,
I don't think so easy, nordo I think they have the arsenal
to I mean to go do itright now. Hey, And it's like
(01:30:00):
Dana Brown says, they're always inthe market for pitching. Who is so
right, you know if and somebody'sgonna be available just to mend what you
want to give up and how highpriced you want to go get. So
that trade deadline is coming up.What let's see one too, about three
and a half weeks away. Yeah, about three and a half weeks.
It's right around the corner. Man, it'll be here before we know it.
And that's gonna be an interesting weekand a half leading into that because
(01:30:24):
the rumors are gonna come out hotand uh, you just you know,
you never know what's gonna happen withMajor League Baseball and that trade deadline.
Seven one three two, one twofive seven ninety the number to join.

Should have been on the All StarGame. And if you don't believe
they should have been, if you'rein your city, wherever you are,
you weren't watching. You were notwatching the way these two guys had to
basically carry a staff through times whenother people couldn't. They just couldn't,
and neither one of them were countedon this year to do this. Both
of them deserve to be in theAll Star Team. Let's go out to
Clay. Clay welcome in man. What's up, Good morning, Brian and
(01:33:11):
Sean. Listening to your discussion aboutthe injuries for the Astros and this from
a non athletic point of view,I'm just wondering if you compare football,
basketball, baseball, golf, oris it fair to say baseball is not
(01:33:36):
as athletic as football and basketball.I don't know if you know what that
means. Yeah, no, Iknow what you're saying, and you can
finish your I'll answer to my firstthoughts on that, and I've had this,
Listen, there's some The hand eyecoordination that it takes to be a
baseball player is phenomenal. If you'rejust talking about the guys I would think
(01:34:00):
widely known and haven't done national showsand then local shows here, and it's
not disrespect. It isn't because there'ssome Listen. I could take a guy
like Bo Jackson, whether you wantto call him football or baseball, he's
best athlete possibly we've ever seen. But as far as the overall on average,
I think most people would say basketball, football, depending on the position,
(01:34:20):
followed by baseball in the Big Three, and hockey golf. Most people
are going to say that you're yetDustin Johnson looks like his six to three
looks like a pretty damn good athleteto me. But if you're just talking
about the athletic I think it takesa great athletic move to why is golf
so hard? If the ball sitsby itself and we can't square up the
(01:34:43):
club face and hit a straight golfshot? All the times seem like it
should be easy, and it's notso. In their own sports brutal,
there's no question. Yet overall,I think it would go Probably a lot
of people would say basketball athleticism wouldbe first. Football has an argument,
then the baseball, hockey, golfthing, golf individual sport. There's some
(01:35:03):
good athletes in tennis too, butof the three major sports, baseball is
going to finish third when it comesto the way most people look at athletes.
I'm not saying now I think hittingbaseball maybe the hardest thing to do.
I think the hardest position to playin sports is quarterback. But I
would say, if you're those three, not just injuries but athleticism, I
(01:35:25):
would say basketball, football, baseballin that order, and football and basketball
have an argument. I don't thinkyou could put baseball in the same category
when it comes to just overall athletesplaying. Yet do I believe there's athletes
in baseball they could go play anothersport? Of course, I'm just talking
about the majority. Brian, Idon't know. He was asking, was
clay if the athleticism, what's theorder of it? Basically? And basketball
(01:35:49):
and football would be the top twoof the three major if you're talking about
overall athleticism. Although hitting a baseballin their own sport, yeah, maybe
the hardest thing to do. Yetsquare it up a golf balls not exactly
easy, and it does move.So I think for the most part,
the majority of people would say thebest athletes reside in basketball, football.
First. I think that's what they'dsay, whether that's true or not,
(01:36:12):
because I'm talking about somebody that couldleave their sport and go do something somewhere
else. I don't know if youagree on that, but I do.
I think into baseball is the hardestthing to do, yeah, and I
think quarterbacks the hardest position to play. But I think overall, I don't
think you're gonna go on a baseballfield and say most of those athletes you
could line them up at slot andthey'd go play or in middle linebacker.
I think you can make it.I can find a tight end a receiver
in basketball more oft than I couldfind a catcher playing middle linebacker. I
(01:36:35):
think for me that the thing thatI Clay, I appreciate. If there's
any other thank you, If youhave something else you can let us know,
Clay, thank you very much.I think for me it's like when
you, I mean we talked aboutit. Like you've seen Michael Parson's baseball
swing. You've seen CJ. Stroudthrowing a baseball and trying to swing a
baseball bat. I think when itcomes to baseball players, I think you
(01:36:56):
can put them in another sport andthey will compete their ass off. But
I also do think that's some ofthe most athletic I'm talking about their own
job. Other athletic all is goingto finish third of the Major gu Yeah,
I think perception wise, yeah, for sure, that's what I'm talking
about. I mean, you lookat you look at someone like the outfielders
and like middle infielders like those arejust help. That's super good act.
(01:37:18):
So I think Payne, you couldhave played strong safety in basket football probably
probably yea, yeah, that's whatI'm saying. I'm not talking about certain
select guys. I think Kyle Tuckercould have played basketball, That's my That
was my point is like there areselect few in baseball. That's why well
Bo Jackson, whether you think thinkit was a football and baseball guy,
there's no better. But the pointis that I would think that most people
perceive when it just talks athleticism, because you see some pitchers that are a
(01:37:44):
little bit you know, David Wells, Yeah, yeah, just just because
and well, he may be ableto shoot a three point or lights out,
but I'm just talking about the abilityhe's probably over probably a good free
throw. Shoot. Yeah. LikeI said, you're trying to hit a
baseball. That's the hardest thing todo. But when you take that athlete
and say throw into another I don'tthink many people are going to say,
let's go recruit the baseball player firstto play wide receiver. I think are
(01:38:05):
there some of course, you're tellingme a guy like what's what's the shortstop
for the Yankees? The young kids? Second year guy? I think Volpi
could play. He looks like aguy who could play corner in the league.
Take a look at you telling methat somebody like pick me a great
I'm thinking of great athletes. Youtell me Ronald Lecuna could couldn't play corner
(01:38:26):
and when he's fully healthy in football, it seems like Mookie Betts, it
seems like he could catch one hundredballs as a slot receiver. That that
those are the point, right,But yet you your best hitter in baseball
may not be able to play anothersport. I don't know if Otani can
play other sports. I don't know. But best the overall perception, I
would think that people would lean hoopsplayers first, football, second, baseball
(01:38:51):
third. Yet you could take somefrom all those sports and plug him in
elsewhere and they'd be just fine.Hey, I see plenty of baseball players
and go out and play golf andshoots and play scratch golf. But I'm
talking about to jump into the othertwo sports. I think that's a fair
perception. But I think there's obviouslycertain individuals that would they would they would
set that back a little in baseballsay well, wait a minute, don't
(01:39:12):
forget about me, And I'm notforgetting about the great athletes. I think
there's more athletes in basketball than thereis baseball. Yeah, I just think
it's more polished skill in baseball.Like I said, I've seen some of
the best athletes and the planet youput about in their hand, those guys
look horrible. Oh yeah, Imean literally Michael Parsons, well, and
then you're watching what it's like it'sa William It's weird. Yeah, it's
(01:39:33):
weird. It was a little differentbecause he was a little zesty, but
you know, it's just weird.But overall, I don't think I think
most would recruit basketball players before anyother sport to go play another sport,
but not baseball. Yeah, youknow, you get what I'm saying because
of the precise skill that it takesin dynamics ever into baseball. Did you
ever see the video of Ryan Clarkswinging a golf club? Yeah, pathetic,
(01:39:55):
It's it's embarrassing, it's all. It's awful and non athletic, right
right, Yeah, So there yougo. So I would think to answer
Clay just kind of you know, the the athletic stuff. There's some pretty
good athletes. I mean, youtell me, you look at a guy
like Jordan or Anthony Edwards and Isay if the guy wanted to play beach
volleyball in the Olympics, and youwould have started them at nine years old,
(01:40:18):
wouldn't they be playing on our Olympicteams beach volleyball? I would think
because they're that athletic. I mean, you look at a former Rocket great
Chase Buttinger, Binger but yeah,Butdinger, Yeah yeah, a University of
Arizona Wildcat guy. I'm pretty surehe just made the Olympic, the men's
Olympic volleyball. Well, you remembermy guy from Poway who was on the
(01:40:42):
the Chicago Bulls championship teams, whoplayed uh pro hoops and was a volleyball
player and a great one. What'smy guy's I am losing. He was
just after me in high school. He played at Poway High and went played
on He was on Jordan's team's hewas up the white power forward. You
know what I'm talking about. Ican't believe I'm he was a tele of
an athlete from from pow Pow,a y play was a Bulls great volleyball
(01:41:08):
player on the on the Bulls. When I say his name, you're gonna
know Butler Judd Butler. There yougo. He was a tremendous two sport
guy in in high school and hecan get great hops. And I've seen
those guys, I mean went towith some Olympic volleyball players at USC and
they are some good that's tough sportto play too, some phenomenal athletes.
(01:41:30):
So yeah, you know, growingup to if you to pigeonhold somebody else
into doing there with theirs and said, no, I want you, Michael
Jordan, I want you to justbe a volleyball player or a tennis player.
Couldn't have Jordan been Yeah, you'vebeen phenomenal at any of that.
I would think, so, youknow, you get you know, pushed
into the sport you want to play. But I do think there's athletes in
all sports that could play another sport. But I would think you're recruiting athletes
(01:41:54):
from basketball or football first to playanother sport, maybe before you would baseball,
just on the pure physical stuff thatgoes with it. Yeah, I
think there's no question about it.Chase Butinger actually is going to be playing
for the United States in the Olympicsfor beach volleyball. Yeah, we're jumping
in that sand is Yeah, Sothose guys that were. It's ironic too
(01:42:16):
that Bushler same way. Bushler wasa hell of a volleyball player and a
really good basketball player too. Yeah, let's continue to uh rolling along here
on the Shawn Salisbury Show. I'mgoing to tell you, Sean, the
biggest Fluke Championship was decided over theweekend. Okay, let's do it.
Let's talk about it next right hereon Sports Talk seven ninety. Brotherly Love

rolling here. Let's talk about theFakes Championship. You will ever see You
know the name Joey Chestnut? Correct, I call him Joe Joe Chestnut.
(01:45:40):
He didn't compete in the Nathan's FamousInternational Hot Dog Eating Contest over the weekend.
Wasn't he in a military base orsomething doing it? Competing in a
side competition? Yeah, it waslike three verse one or something like that
that he won. Yeah, andI think he did. I think he
ate fifty five and five minutes. The winner was what fifty eight and Patrick
(01:46:01):
berta Letty Patrick Bertletti was the winnerof the Nathan's Famous International Hot Dog Eating
Contest. That thing played out.Yet it's getting this gross. It's so
gross. I mean, how isArtery? I don't know? How do
is he not clogged up? That'sso gross? The guy's in machine Elle
(01:46:26):
Machino, and all came down tohe was being sponsored by some plant based
thing and Nathan's didn't didn't like that, so he was he wasn't allowed to
compete in it. But didn't hego fifty five and five minutes compared to
fifty eight and ten for the winnerand the Nathans fifty seven hot dogs in
five minutes. Okay, while theSoldiers he competed against max out at a
combined forty nine, right, didn'tthe winner of the Nathans go fifty eight
(01:46:50):
and ten minutes. Yes, sohe basically almost had him in five minutes,
and if it would have been tenyto blow him, the competition away
as always fifty eight hot dogs.It was one of the closest races in
recent years. Yeah, this ischest out aside. They got himself a
little competition going fifty seven hot dogsfor him though in five minutes. Yeah
(01:47:14):
it's gross. Yeah, no thereyeah, hot dogging it. Yeah.
Yeah, this is the equivalent tothe Los Angeles Dodgers twenty twenty Mickey Mouse
World series title. I know Joewas happy for the guy who won,
he said, Joe Chestnuts said, you know, I was happy for the
guy who won that trick. Yeah, he's hat. We call him Patty
or Patty Yeah, Patty b Yep, he was happy for him. I
(01:47:38):
mean he knows it's an empty championshipthough for this it is, man,
I mean, good for pat Youdon't get the ring, don't you?
In the in the winter, inthe check Yeah, and some hopefully some
pepto bismos, some endorsements, youknow, sponsorships, you're just watching them.
Is just a terrible well, nevermind, I'm not going to go
there. I can't imagine what thenext move is for you? When you've
(01:48:03):
got all those in your system. You know what I'm saying, that's got
to be nasty. You gotta beawful. Gosh dang, Joe Chessnut's unbelievable,
though. Could you eat ten hottalks in five minutes? No?
No, I wouldn't. I couldn'teven attempt it. I don't even want
to, man, that's just that'sjust gut wrenching thinking about it. I
don't want to. He did. What he needs is an endorsement with like
(01:48:27):
a prilo sec. The dude's gottahave acid reflux somewhere. Yeah, you
know, he's he's he should beendorsing about fifty medical products and making all
kinds of money. Considering when hedies, like at one hundred, he'll
probably live to he's like one hundredand ten. What he does and they
cut him open, what's that gonnalook like? What is he I've asked
(01:48:51):
him this and I can't remember whathe said. I interviewed him before you
interviewed Joe chess I have. I'veinterviewed Joe Chessnut before and I've asked him.
I'm just curious, like, doeshe eat hot dogs on his free
time. You know how sometimes you'relike enough man, right, I can't
do it because there's certain foods thatyou do when you've had It's like,
okay, I'm taking a month anda half off from this red meat or
(01:49:13):
this I'm not eating hot dogs fora while, or I've had enough pizza.
I don't know if you can everhave enough pizza. But what do
you think he I mean, andI can't remember what he said. What's
he eat on his non free timeand what's it take to get him full?
So when you're just sitting around now, just for it's like I asked
when I told you, I askedPGA Tour players Jason Cochrack and Will and
(01:49:34):
Cam Smith, and we were playingat the Live Tour on the tournament they
here in Heuston, I said, when they're playing golf with their buddies now,
and you're used to shooting you're aplus eight handicap, right, you're
used to shooting sixty eight, sixtysix, sixty five seven, bad days
even par for you on your homecourse, whether it's co Crack playing at
(01:49:54):
Akron, you know, at FirestoneCountry Club where he plays, or Smith
in his home country when they goout with their buddies and are enjoying a
beer and they shoot seventy five orseventy seven because they had a few beers
and smoke a cigar. Doesn't itbother you if you went out and couldn't
hit a baseball in a sixty minehour pitch with your buddies, would you
(01:50:15):
be like, whoa, whoa, whoa, what's going on here? Yeah?
Same thing. If I'm thowing,I could still play catch. If
I'm like missing throws, it's like, wait, wait a minute. I
know it's for fun, but ifthat's still your pre I mean, now
we're both we don't play anymore. If you're in your profession, how do
you go enjoy a comfortable round ofgolf with your buddies but shoot seventy eight?
Aren't you thinking, like on aday off, like whoa, why
is this creeping in? Don't yougo right to the range and say,
okay, you clowns, you gotto figure it right. It's the same
(01:50:39):
thing with him. At what pointdo you get full? When are you
just eating a meal with your wifeor whoever it is? When you go
hey Man's order a pizza, Noles'sorder eight. When do you get full?
I mean, do you enjoy foodnow? I mean do you like,
say, I'm staying away from hotdogs for six months in the offseason.
Does he train like that? AndI know he does train for it,
(01:51:01):
but I can't remember what he saidwhen I said, well, would
he like to eat when you're notaround food? I mean when you're not
around what you normally eat. Becausethe guy eats, you know, he's
done. I think has he doneoysters or something? He's done like fifteen
different different kind of contests where he'syou know, whether I have slices of
pizza, hot dogs. I justam curious. What does he do?
Like, Hey, we're gonna goon and get some wings? Did his
(01:51:24):
order one hundred and forty of them? Well? What does he do?
How does he get full? So? I thought about that, So he
said, I think about some ofthe most useless things. But I wonder
how he does it? Well?He so in an interview, he said
that it takes him two full daysto start feeling better after a competition.
I wonder, And he said thathe still isn't tired of eating hot dogs.
(01:51:48):
He likes to actually eat them normallywith cheese, whiz. That's nasty.
That is friguing. The only thingI should go on cheese whizz cheese
wis should go on like a Phillycheese steak, because that's really what they
put on it, the cheese whiz. But so he say, hey,
man, what do you want fordinner? Honey, give me some hot
dogs? Will you just ate fourhundred of him three days ago? Oh
(01:52:10):
dude, So he says, afterthe contest, he gets thirsty, drinks
water, and then he goes straightto sleep, takes a nap, and
he says, it takes around fourhours for nature to start taking its course.
God, what does that rip snorttaste? I mean, just smell
stop it. What does that doto the house. Honey, don't go
(01:52:30):
in the bathroom for nine hours afterwards, because I just blew it up.
Ruh. I mean, I knowit's morning and it's breakfast time, but
you brought it up dog. SoI'm just wondering what that takes four hours
after all those I means he's sleepshere you go. So he says,
it's like runners. Runners they looklike they're gonna die at the end of
a marathon, but they still loveto run and I love a good hot
dog. I don't blame him,I get it. But what else does
(01:52:53):
he love? And how much doesit take to fill him up? Okay,
even if he wants a hot dog, does he go like, give
me ten of those? I mean, what fills him up? That The
shrinkage and expansion of his stomach hasgot to be crazy. And I don't
I do not want to be aroundthat bathroom call. That is horrib Do
not let him drop it next toyou in a public bathroom music. Could
(01:53:15):
you imagine what that's like? Hesaid? He puts cheese whiz and grilled
onions on his hot dog, andhe says, cheese whiz and grilled onions
is kind of like a Philly cheeseteak. Oh my god, it's great.
End quote he said. Also quoteI'm not one of those hot dog
purists. I'll even put ketchup onevery now and then quote as you should.
Oh dude, what ketchup here?He said? Even quote I've put
(01:53:35):
kim chee on a hot dog thoughthat was really good. Cream cheese really
tastes good on there too. Endquote. Well, there's certain specially you
go to a hot dog like ahot dog stand especially don't put some cream
cheese on and stuff. But Iget it. But I'm just trying to
figure out what gets him full glizziesand how many glizzies like on his own?
Hey, honey, what are youmaking? Eight hot dogs? We've
(01:53:57):
got three? No? No,no, that's eight or just my ass,
my appetizer. I don't know.Man, good for him that he
can make a living of but itjust feels gross to me. No,
but he's made a living out ofit. And if he still loves him
and he still can survive it,God bless him. Can we get him
back into the Nathan's Eating the HotDog contest? Somehow? He'll drop the
band? Man, He'll be back, He'll be back. I mean,
(01:54:18):
the dude went to what was itagain? He like meatless or something like
that, plant based, plant basedhot dogs. It takes about four hours
for mother nature to kick in mosthumans. Yeah, I don't want to
I don't want to even talk aboutthat. That gross, that's so gross.
He stopped. Give me some cheeses, Give me some cheeses on my
(01:54:41):
dog. Man, No, it'sjust not good. That's the four hours.
Dude. Could you imagine eating seventyplus hot dogs. Then you know
what, I'm just gonna go takea nap. No, I don't know.
I mean, no, I don'tknow. He's not I mean I
hope he. His body must havea great digestive system because most people would
have to roll themselves to the contest. Hey, there was one of the

This is the Sean Salisbury Show. You know who made their debut this past
weekend, Sean, A lot ofpeople somewhere they made their debut. Know
who what are you talking about?Bronni Jans? Oh yeah, bron Broun.
(01:56:54):
No, that's bron Bron's bron BraunRight, yeah, Bronnie's do we
call him Bronnie? Bronnie? Let'scall him Bronnie? I guess why what
do we call it? Bron Okay, so doesn't it only make sense to
call him Bronnie Brownie? I don'tknow while laugh, but that's what I
(01:57:16):
wanted to call him from now on. That's the only way. If you
don't say it, I will. We're not listening fair enough. What's his
name? Bronnie Brownie? Okay, you got that? Tripley? Try it
once? Triple there you go.Let's say a little enthusia, a little
what's up Bronnie Brownie? I thinkthat's the way we should do, don't
(01:57:36):
you guys? You feel good aboutit? Now? Yeah? Now that
I do? Or now now thatyou did I do? Okay? Good?
Crazy? Okay? So whatever youread a story about him, let
me know. Yeah, so youhad Bronnie. No, sorry, Bronnie
Brownie made his debut. Uh,missed out on the second game due to
some knee soreness. Got it,load management, dude, Twenty year olds
(01:58:00):
need some knee loads management. Early. You were off last Wednesday as we
went to the July fourth holiday, and we played some audio for who Bronny
Brownie? And he basically said henever thought about playing with his dad in
the NBA. Sure, just likehis dad had no say in them drafting
(01:58:20):
him in the secondnd. The Lakerswent in and said that guy is going
to give us a new game.Yeah, now, do you do you
believe this? He's been thinking aboutit since the day he was able to
shoot a jump shot. I knowthey've been talking about it for years.
Excuse me as I just stop asI hit puberty right here to stop it.
(01:58:41):
Yeah, it's it's all bs.Yeah, of course he thought about
his dad did too, And youknew that the safest bet in sports was
the draft came around? Was it? The Lakers were going to draft and
or sign Lebron James kid Bronnie Brownie? Okay, and there he is.
Yeah, nepotism that it's finest.Oh yeah, And I hope the succeeds.
I do, but I hope hesucceeds on his game, not on
(01:59:03):
his name. That would be thatwould be great for him. I'm sure
as well that his game's good enoughto succeed, not sure it is good
enough to I mean talent, he'stalented, but I think he's just a
guy right now. I just doit. Got bron bron and Bronnie Bronnie.
I like Bronnie Browny better than bronbrown really. Yeah, just the
(01:59:25):
way it comes off, you know, when when you what's up? Who's
that guy? Oh, Bronnie Brownie? Yeah, oh you got to do
it. Yeah, I can't.You can't refer to him at any point
in time. Listen is Brownie Brownie? Yeah? We uh, we got
some audio. I believe it's ChrisCanty talking about this Bronnie James situation because
lebron James h made some comments yesterdayafter us A practice, and then Bronnie
(01:59:51):
also had things to say after hisdebut. I just I feel like the
more that these guys, these twotalk, it's just giving critics more and
more fuel. Good dog, that'sthe uh. I think Chris Canty says
it pretty well in so Manio. So let's get to that. As we
get into the nine o'clock hour righthere on the Seawan Salisbury Show. But
(02:00:13):
before we get to that, let'stalk about Classic Elite Buick GMC. The
Elite rev Up Summer Sales evented.Classic Elite continues to roll on right here

the Classic Elite family, both drivingpickup trucks from Classic Elite, cruising in

exclusive audio home of NBC's cover andshow the twenty twenty four Paris Olympics.
(02:01:43):
How about the masts A little rockets. This is Sports Talk seven ninety,
your home for your home teams, driven by the classic elite Buick GMC Studios
for the elite car buying the experienceSaalsbrayby Houston. Okay, let's do this.
(02:02:08):
Sean Salisbury to USC Troupes, longtimefriend, Sewn Salisbury, Bryan Lima,
go Lobos. This is the SeanSalsbury show, Jonon Alvarez, Jose
Altuve, are your representatives for theHouston Astros. Uh, we're talking about
Astros pretty much all show long.Uh, let's talk a little NBA.
(02:02:32):
You had some summer league action gettingkicked off. Bronnie James made his debut
for the Los Angeles Lakers over inLas Vegas. Chris Canty on ESPN this
morning, talking about Bronnie James andthe critics that they are giving fuel to.
We'll kick around ideas during the productionmeeting, and then we'll ask ourselves,
where's the win in this conversation? Is it even worth having? My
(02:02:56):
question to Bronnie James is where's thewin in saying that the speed in summer
league is slower than the speed inthe college game. There is no win.
Why even say that? If yougenuinely feel that way, keep that
one in the chamber, brou becausenow it's just gonna give more ammunition,
give people more fuder to criticize youfor saying something like that. Oh yeah,
(02:03:17):
well, the speed of the games. What about the speed of the
game? Now when you have anothertwo for nine performance, Now everybody's willing
to kind of gloss over this becauseit's your debut, and because it's summer
league. But once we get tothe regular season where the games matter,
assuming that your dad's gonna put histhumb on the scale and make sure that
you're in your rotation so he canplay with you, we're gonna start questioning
(02:03:38):
whether or not you belong if youstruggle, and then everybody's gonna go back
to these comments about you saying thatthe speed of the game is as fast
as college. They're also gonna goback to the comments that your dad made
a couple of years ago when hewas talking about watching guys on league Pass
and how you were better than alot of players that were in the NBA
at that time. So there's plentyout there for people to be crit Bronnie
(02:04:00):
James about don't give them another bulletin the chamber in order to be critical
and firing at you when it comesto the overall attitudes, the overall animus
that they have toward you because ofhow you have manipulated a process. Pretty
spot on, He's dead spot onething, you know, almost like a
(02:04:27):
bullet. If the game is somuch slower than you want to score,
you ought to average twenty the collegegame's fashion than summer league, and imagine
it's a little more casual in someleague. But these are rookies trying to
make in. Young players trying tomake an impact, right mm hm.
That that's just you know what itis. It's like, oh, I
just didn't bring my A game.I don't need you better bring your A
game. First off, Let's justget right down to it. Bronny couldn't
(02:04:51):
keep up with the college game.I'm talking about when he was on the
court, not the health aside. When he was on the court of the
USC, he was just a guy. He wasn't even a top two or
three player on his own team atUSC because he's got the name and another
thing, his dad. What areach. We talk about nepotism saying is
he was better than a bunch ofplayers. Now, he may be gifted,
(02:05:12):
he may have talented some good DNA, but it doesn't translate to being
NBA ready. He's not NBA readyto play. Now, if all of
a sudden he comes out of nowhereand gets NBA ready to play, guess
what that'll tell me. He workedon his game and there's some skill in
there. But if he plays likehe did in college, the guy won't
be in the NBA for long. But as Chris Canty said, and if
his dad has his thumb on itand gets him on the court in the
(02:05:33):
same rotation as him, which we'regonna see, then that's fine. But
yes, to say, well thespeed of the game, well then you
better dominate, dude, and don'tgo two for nine if the speed of
the game is slower in summer leaguethan you played in college when you were
just a guy in college and we'renever the best player on the floor.
And you go to the NBA andnow you've already started this with your first
(02:05:55):
game and you can't even go backto back because you got a sore and
ee what that four points have beenawfully taxing. This whole thing is nepotism
joke. Okay, who doesn't rootfor a guy to be successful. I
do. It's not against Bronnie jimfSome of his comments are just dumb,
but the fact of matter, let'sjust look at the surface of his game.
Don't tell me he's talented. Iknow a lot of talented people that
(02:06:16):
can't get off the couch on aSunday in football or can't play in the
NBA or baseball because they just can'tapply it mix sure that they dominate their
sport. Bronnie James is not He'sjust a guy. He's a guy that
will struggle to stay in the leagueif he plays like he has, like
he did in college, and likehe well his opening his opening game in
(02:06:36):
summer league. If four points tellsme he can't go back to back because
he's got knee soreness, he's infor a long, hard struggle, but
it won't last long in the NBA. And if he didn't have his dad's
name, DNA talent, if hedidn't have his dad's name, he wouldn't
be a Laker. You know,I think what really kind of bothers me
(02:06:56):
about this situation just in regards tohim, and that the game is slower.
He scored four points, He shotzero for three for three point line.
If it was slower, why areyou not dropping sixteen seventeen eighteen points
in your debut? And his firstdad to say that his kid now,
if he wanted to say his kid'smore talented a handful of years ago,
more talented than some players in theNBA, fine to say he's better his
(02:07:17):
kid his kid right now, isn'tisn't scaring anybody on an NBA roster a
matter of fact, most of themare probably rolling their eyes and know the
reason. Oh and by the way, he also signed a four year,
seven point nine million dollar guaranteed contract. Of course, the fifty fifth pick.
You know, we went through ita couple of days ago, and
there were guys that got signed tolike two way contracts, ten day contracts,
(02:07:42):
fifty five thousand dollars contracts. Thiskid got four years, seven point
nine million dollars. And also theLakers in his introductory press conference said that
he earned his way to the NBAfour points at USC four points, he
was dominating it as a trojan.I can tell you that, but I
do. I root for his success. But let's get real here. The
(02:08:03):
guy's just a guy. I cantell you right now that you could probably
name thirty players in college today thatare soft freshmen and sophomores that are better
than him right now. He wasnever the best player on his own college
team. No, and I like, not even close at any point in
time. Brownie James twenty two minutesand his debut two for nine from the
(02:08:26):
field, oh three from three pointline, oh for two from the free
throw line. He scored four pointsand can't go twenty two minutes and can't
go back to back Why because hisknees sore. So we're already load managing
a twenty some year old from hisknee. Stop it. I could stop
it. I mean listen, andwe would need this topic and Chris Canty
(02:08:46):
hit it. You have these conversationsabout does it make sense to even talk
about this moving needle and it doesn't. And we've given it probably seven more
minutes than we probably shouldn't. Yeah, but you're a Laker guy, Laker
girls, and you know what Iwant the best one. I want the
entire Yeah, dance and Barry,I want the best guys on the floor.
Brinnie James will be there, BronnieBrownie next to bron bron Oh you
(02:09:09):
can hear, dude. He's makingthe roster guaranteed, there's no no doubt
about it, because they don't wantto piss off the pops because if he's
mad, the whole organization suffers.Poor change. Actually, no, I'm
not gonna say poor James. Whatdo you kidnews him? He worked five
and people like they got their guyin the war room for the fifty fifty
fifth pick. Just stop it.Yeah, exactly safe. We got him
(02:09:31):
saved and getting congratulations on Hudge likeyou know what they did when the can
was off. Hey, great jobof getting the guy's gonna have to have
the wrath of lebron for the nextyear or two. Right now, he's
going to sign a guaranteed contract tostay with us. Great job, everyone,
great job. It was a longtwenty four hours, but we got
him. We got him, goodgrace, we got Bronnie. Just stop
(02:09:56):
it, we got him. NBAready, Uh sure, jim Canty,
I thought I saw him in studio. Why I saw him? I saw
Cantory and like studio where breaking thisdown as opposed to being out there.
Maybe Jimbo's maybe they said, youknow, it's time to consult. Maybe
Jimbo's not taking a little taking astorm off. The guy deserves some load
(02:10:18):
management from the storms, your MVP, doesn't he deserve a little load management?
Gracious, you gotta have cantoy, dude. The the the windburn that
that guy is taking in his career. Is there any bigger m V do
If there's a guy who's getting paidseven figures. He deserves it, bellying
up to all these storms. Ithink put him in the studio once in
a while. Let let Jimbo havea little time off man. No,
(02:10:41):
gosh, dang if Jim Cantore isthe equivalent to cal Ripken, yeah,
iron man. Yeah, So whyis he studio working? But does he
need to be a Disney No,he needs to be in the field all
the time. Yes, that's whatmakes jim jim can't does it? Jimbo
deserve a coat and tie once ina while. No, And where is
(02:11:01):
the dude. Dude's taking a beatingover the years out there in the weather,
and maybe at some point Jimmy says, I gotta, I gotta,
I got, you know, Igotta I gotta slow down, the slow
down, the beat down. Man. So where is he? He's not
out there. I saw him earlier. That looked like he was in studio
where now, I don't know whatstudio or where see they did that studioware
(02:11:24):

management. Let me go in thestudio. The punty is too much of
(02:11:46):

Texas for the landfall of barrel thismorning, but instead he's fat catting in
the studio. Whoa back off thosecountry clubs. There's no guy. You'll
never be able to throw a strayat Jim Cantore ever, No, because
he's had like trees and down powerlines getting thrown at that point in time,
(02:12:07):
you know how like that officer hasbeen an officer in the line of
duty or a fire. At somepoint time they become the police chiefer to
compare. Tell me, is henot a guy? Do you tell me
I'm not. Let's not. He'snot going at the towers of the ideal
my point though, you're telling meone hundred and forty mile an hour winds
standing in it with boots on?Is it? Whether it's is it?
(02:12:28):
Is it? Semi first responderish kiddingme by the way Mattress Smack opened his
doors, open his doors to thosethat are going to have no place to

we've never told to say I sawit and I said, what a shock?
Gallery furniture, and Mattress Smack opensup his store to make sure people
have a place to go for forthat. But WHOA. I'm not comparing
the first responders, but if there'sanything close to a first responder, did
do you want to stand out therein one hundred and eighty degrees or one
hundred and sixty degrees one hundred andsixty miles per hour? Next? Our
(02:13:11):
job required us to have boots onthe ground. We're in I'm there,
I know, but one hundred andsixty mile a airstorm. You tell me
you're like you kind of like Paul, you're compared, Yeah, a hurricane
three. I got three somewhere andhe's standing out there. He's got an
umbrellative protective. Listen, all I'msaying, Yo, All I'm saying is
I got out of the truck inthe parking garage this morning and a gust
(02:13:33):
of about forty five miles an hourblew through and damn near knocked me on
my ass when I open up mytruck. Soh yeah, I'm going out
there one hundred and sixty. WhenI opened up my truck tour, Yeah,
I had my legs sitting out ofit. Almost took it off,
I know, okay. And thatwas like fit and it was howling through
there, thinking at about ninety milesand you want cantory, just like,
oh, Jim, how dare yousit? Yeah? What we say first,
(02:13:56):
Jim, Jim Bow's out there?Weather? And what weather at all?
Did you the meme that was goingaround yesterday? People were putting a
meme that said make sure you leaveyour milk and cookies out for Jim Canty.
Damn, this is like Christmas thingand you're you're calling him basically,
you wist called him. You wissedhim if he is in a suit in
the studio past or somebody saw that. Either way, going Jim, we're
(02:14:16):
fast guys here south the disrespect exactly. Don't you know you're like first responder
as if one hundred and sixty milesan hour winds are good enough for Jimbo
can Tory and you ain't weathering abuck sixty dollars. No, hell no,
I mean I'll go out there, but I'm coming right back in.
Jimbo, you're jim Yeah, letme hold your let me hold your umbrella
(02:14:37):
for you to call him Jimbo too, Yeah, of course. Well it's
Jim Cantore, one of the greatestever. Do it. If he's the
weather. If there's ever anybody inmedia that deserves to get paid, yeah,
it's that cat right there. Oh, there's no question you want to
talk about if there's a storm,Yo, he'll find it. Okay,
check out the hook. Well, his d SHA revolves it. I can't.
I can't believe that it's actually daYeah it is. It was.
(02:15:00):
It was d yeah h can Torytaking strays from you, unbelievwn whoa whoa.
I didn't catch anyth was for studiosaid he's not a first responder type.
No, you saw it forty fivedid to you? What do you
think ninety's doing to your ass?Is sucking buttermilk pal as long as I
got some jack in the box tacos. There you go, There you go,
(02:15:22):

of those in fullsher trying to figureout what the update on the power fix
is. Feel me, Doc,I feel you, Yeah, feel you
Suzy? You call it Phil Fullsherof Full Share, Full Share. You're
(02:17:11):
a full shaar guy, no fullshure. Yeah, there you go.
U one point seven million people withoutpower right now in the city Houston per
centerpoint energy. Hmm. The mostimportant part of a not important part,
I think the most dangerous part goingon right now in the city Houston.
(02:17:37):
Eyewall believe it's like right over Katie, right now, Katie Fullsher, I
tend corridor out towards the energy corridor. I should say, yeah, that's
uh, that's at the crib.Right at the crib you call crib or
crib, oh, the cri zibcris you start calling it the crisis.
That's what I've called it for along time. At the crisp cover to
(02:17:58):
the zib. Sometimes I just callthe zib. So sure, you know,
we shorten everything. Yeah, weget nick names. So instead of
criize of iut is called the zib. Yeah it is. It's rolling right
right through the well through the crib. Yeah, hopefully he's not. That
arrow's not pointing to my house. Is it on the satellite that he's got,
No, that would be Cleveland, that Cleveland, Texas up sixty nine
(02:18:22):
or fifty nine, Yeah, sixtymile an hour gus all day long.
That's a that's a past. What. Let me ask you this, When
you see the fly, you couldgo on to it, it'll fly.
You know. I'm not going tothe range today. No, I think
the course is probably closed. Doyou think, uh what what concerns you
more when you're like sitting in oneof these when you're like, is it
wind or rain? For me,it's always the wind. Yeah, agreed,
(02:18:46):
flying out the wind, I knowit's in low points and stuff for
people that the floods get him, like, I completely understand it's dangerous and
you know this I'm just talking aboutfrom for me, the howling, the
winds of flying of stuff, yeah, win free, Yes, concern me
more, maybe because then the raindoesn't yet I've got the green belt,
that that thing do, the littlethe pond. It's just I mean,
(02:19:13):
that's it. So the bridge willbe by the time I get home today,
the bridge will be fully covered.Yeah, and underwater. So I
get what people go through. Butthe howling winds are always more of you
know, I'm always thinking one ofthese windows going to be yeah, that's
at Yeah, and then what doyou do? You ain't taping the damn
thing up? No, for aminute, trying to keep winds out.
(02:19:35):
So I mean I get everybody's Imean, everybody has different reasons in the
and then a couple of wind andrain, and then there's tornado watching the
same area, there's hurricane going on. Yeah, that's that's that makes for
a tough go round for everybody.Yeah, that's uh. I think that's
the scariest part for me is thewind. Obviously, then it knocks power
out and you don't know how longit's gonna take to get it repaired.
Yep. I mean I think wasa hurricane Ike was back in two thousand
(02:19:56):
and eight. Yeah, two thousandand eight here in the city Houston,
and the I went straight over fortyfive. We're without power for sixteen straight
days. Yeah, that was inthe late September. I believe if that
happens, excruciating heat and humidity foranimals and all that, it's difficult,
man, difficult. Just be safeout there, man, be safe.
Yeah, definitely be safe. Let'ssee one. Like I said, almost
(02:20:20):
two million, one one point sevenmillion without power right now. All right,
let's get to break a one toget us back on time. Let's
talk about the Big twelve. Whenit comes to football, believe it or
not, College football right around thecorner. Deon Sanders making some headway once
again. Let's talk about it nextto sports Stock. Seven to eighty.

tests simple and it's needed, andit's full body wellness Men'stclinic dot com or
(02:21:56):
eight hundred two four six low T. That's eight hundred two four cents low
to your minst clink dot com.For the Shawn Salisbury Show continued a couple
of new teams going into the Bigtwelve Utah Arizona Arizona State in Colorado.
Deon Sanders is gonna make his debutat Big twelve media days. I can
only imagine what he's gonna say.I just you just never know with Coach
(02:22:24):
Prime. We called him coach Primeall season. We call him coach Sanders.
I call him Dion. Okay, well you can call him coach Dion,
coach coach Prime if you want toCoach Sanders for me, I don't.
I don't give the coach the nickname. When I call him coach,
it's coach. But I would imaginehe'll say something because he wants to get
(02:22:45):
He wants to make sure that hemoves the needles some way that way too,
to bring more attention to the program. And I get it, and
think about it, Of all theteams that in the Big Twelve, what
he says is gonna be more. They're gonna listen to him more than anybody
else. Yeah, or at leasttill the needle is gonna move, just
based on his comments on a teamthat quite frankly is as an overall team
(02:23:07):
very average, very average, right, very average skilled positions, speed,
but very average. And they're notgoing to win the Big Twelve either this
year. Just so you understand this, Yeah, utah A gonna have some
big expectations going into the Big Twelve. They are the outright favorite to win
the Big Twelve. In their firstyear, they received twenty first place votes
in the Big twelve media poll andtook the top spot with the nine hundred
(02:23:30):
and six total points. I'm goingto tell you what, the Big twelve
is not used to that kind ofphysicality. Amen, they made I mean
hell, the packed the Pac twelvewasn't overly accustomed to it at all.
But then Washington, you know thatoffensive line they got more physical. Sc
has become finesse. But in thepast they were physical, but they weren't.
They get pushed around by Utah. The Big Twelve is about to understand.
(02:23:50):
I'm not saying Big twelve can't competewith other conferences, because they can,
but losing you know a couple ofgood teams with the Texas and OU
to the SEC, You're about tofind it. Did they play when it
comes to physicality, they play punchyou in the mouth, big boyd football
that really belongs. They actually playedBig ten football in the Big twelve,
(02:24:11):
and they are skilled, but theyare physical as hell, and they should
be the favorites in the Big Twelvebecause they are the best team in the
Big Twelve. Speaking of, theyhaven't played it down in it yet.
With the Big Twelve. Olie Gordonthe second the running back from Oklahoma State.
He's the preseason Offensive Player of theYear and he was the only unanimous
All Big Twelve selection. He wasthe dok Walker Award winner in twenty twenty
(02:24:35):
three, finished seventh in the HeismanTrophy voting, but he got a DUI.
Recent arrest are sorry suspicion of drivingunder the influence and driving over the
speed limit, and Oklahoma State andcoach Mike Gunny have yet to address it.
They all they have said is nocomment at this time. What are
(02:24:56):
they gonna do with it? Well, what would you do if somebody just
said suspicion, isn't it? Don'twe got to let it play out?
Isn't that fair to the kid andfair to the process. I mean suspicion
if they're saying, if they're ifthe people who ticketed him are saying suspicion
and don't have results yet or don'thave the answers to this yet, why
would you either bury the kid anddiscipline him over discipline him if it wasn't
(02:25:18):
a DUI, or underdisciplined him ifit was. We don't need to make
a kneedrict decision doesn't have to adress. Football doesn't start yet training camp,
they'll be ready to go. Putit this way, they're not kicking him
off the team right that that's notgoing to happen. And I'm not saying
it was a mistake. If ifhe did drive under the influence, he
deserves the punishment that goes with it. But when they say suspicion, when
(02:25:39):
you just read it suspicion of adui then driving under the influence, then
why would I, as a footballas a university tell me what I'm gonna
do with the kid until I haveall the information we were not just you.
Well, everybody's too quick to reactto something that we don't know the
answers to. And I'm not coveringfor the kid. He may be if
(02:26:01):
he did it, then give himfull punishment, but we want to jump
and be the first to just talkabout it and judge it. Let let's
let it play out and see whathappened. He's a hell of a football
player and hopefully, and thank goodness, nobody got hurt in this, I
don't think to my knowledge, butsuspicion, Let's let it play out and
find out what the final result ofit is, then you can issue your
(02:26:24):
penalty to him or whatever it isyou're going to do as a football program
in a university. The University ofHouston football program ranked fifteenth in this preseason
poll for the Big Twelve. Obviously, Willie Fritz is in his first year
as the head coach of the Universityof Houston. He had a twenty three
and four record in his last twoyears at Tulane. It took him a
little bit to get to that point. However, every program that he has
(02:26:46):
been to he has been successful.I believe that they will be far better
than second to last in the conference. I was going to say, there's
sixteen of them, right they offifteenth. He got nowhere to go except
you got fifteenth, fourteen slotch andone to go down. I wouldn't think
they're going any more south than theywere. I expect them to get better.
He's a good football coach. Youknow, they're in the athletic director,
(02:27:07):
you know the whole thing that's goingon with that. But Willie fritz
job is to get these kids toyou know, to play good football and
go win. And he's had successwith wherever he's been. It's a really
good hire and now you got toput it on the field. It's it's
going to be different because every it'sthe Big twelve's tough, just like going
from the Big Twelve to the SECit's they're fast paced and wide open and
and uh, you've got to beable to control the quarterback position. And
(02:27:30):
you're gonna have to be physical becauseit and and have a lot of great
and recruit great perimeter people because intruth less face facts the Big Twelve.
When I say, what do youwhat are the traits of the Big twelve
in the past physicality and physicality hadphysicality haven't been in It's been finesse.
And you better score a lot andthe one team who shows up and plays
good defense has a legitimate shot orthe two teams to win the whole thing.
(02:27:54):
Look at how Texas ramped up theirdefense last year, right, And
so you play defense, you gotto have a guy who can, who
can is versatile at quarterback, andyou better have perimeter people. And then
you got to get some stops ondefense, because we wouldn't call the Big
Twelve the defensive conference. The lastdecade it's been offense, all offense,
all the time. So their preseasonpoll is Utah, Kansas State, Oklahoma
(02:28:18):
State, Kansas, Arizona, IowaState, West Virginia, UCF Tech,
TCU, Colorado, Baylor, BYUSinc. Houston, Arizona State. Arizona
had a really good run last year. Now they're going into the Big twelve.
So that's remember they lost their coachingstaff at the University of Washington,
is right they went. They lostthat to the University of Washington. Now
are on their way to the Bigten, and so it's going to be
(02:28:39):
difficult for them. Go back towhat you said about I don't want to
lose my train of thought about BigOh. Look at the first two teams
you mentioned, Yeah, Utah,Kansas State. They don't beat themselves and
they're physical. They do not beatthemselves, and their physical they punch you
in the face. That's how Kansas, and they've got good football players on
the perimeter. Don't misunderstand me,but they start with they don't jump off
(02:29:01):
sides, they don't kill themselves withstupid penalties. Over the course of a
season. They usually pretty sound. And if you're gonna beat them, you've
got to beat them. You gotyou got to knock them out. They
don't usually spend too much time knockingthemselves out. Both of them are disciplined
football teams and well coach football teams, and you can damn well expect that
both of them are gonna make youwork for every friggin yard during the season.
(02:29:24):
Those are the two best teams inthe Big Twelve in my opinion.
Can you just taste football? Yeah, it's like I told you post July
fourth. Yeah, this to methis month, if it's not for the
hurricane, you're already starting to gearup the thought process. I know today
is a tough day, but tome, once you get past July fourth
holiday weekend, it's all you startto kick into football mode. Players as
(02:29:46):
well, because you can't do throughlike well, my vacation times almost you
got to start thinking about camp.I know the guys I trained from high
school there are now they're back thereinto the final three or so weeks when
they start in early August to getrolling. So imagine what it's like for
college and NFLP It's time. Yeah. So the Texans I believe, let's
see that their training camp starts inlike two weeks. Yeah, it's here
(02:30:09):
man, rookies and getting ready andyou can't. You know, you go
on vacation. You don't want to. You've worked so hard in the off
season get yourself in shape. Youdon't want to take a ten day vacation
right now physically because then you've gotto gain it all back right now.
It's now, it's just a waitinggame for you to polish up what you've
done in the offseason. You're readyto go. Like I said once,
and fourth of July holiday gets passed, it's you. You start now to
kick into football mode, meaning ifyou're a player. Ten days from now,
(02:30:31):
July eighteenth, the Texans will begintraining camp with a section with the
exception of a few days. Eachpractice is going to start at nine am
over at the Methodist Training Center. There you go. Wow, they're gonna
have eight open practices from July twentythird to the twenty ninth, and they
will also host training camp practices thatare going to be open to the public
from August eleventh, twenty first, and twenty second. Wow, that it's
(02:30:54):
that time, brother, it's footballtime. And ye say, we're going
to be playing that all season long. Think about this. By the time
training camp starts, the Astros couldbe in first place. And think about
that, Astros in first place,Houston in the Big twelve with the new
head coach. We know about thatobviously as they've been, but now with
(02:31:16):
a new head coach approaching it,and then you got football season, high
expectations for the Texans. Yeah.Man, it's pretty cool to be a
Houston sports fan. Yeah, youknow what that means. And basketball college
hoops will be starting before you knowit. Dude, you know what that
means. Uh? Did this footballseason? Uh? Uh? Thered More
(02:31:37):
songs that you're gonna play? No? I mean yes, but no,
my crib everybody on Saturdays? Yeah, I can't wait? What's that?
What else? Plan? The parade? Fourteen sixty three? Fourteen sixty three?
The path starts there when it comesto parade, right there in Katie
Folscher. As long as it's notwashed out by the time I get home.
(02:31:58):
Yes, let's hope that that's notthe case. I can neither confirm
nor to not. Yes, let'slet's talk Astros six and four on this
past or roachrip. Let's recap froma long holiday weekend. They blew one
yesterday, but still just two back. Let's talk about it next time.
The show on S four S talkseven to eighty hey wits Vision dot com
(02:32:20):

but I had a lot of questionsgoing in and he answered them all on
that table. I get asked allthe time when you're on the tables invasive.
The answers, No, the recoverywas efficient and quick, seeing better

than I had in two to threedecades. I should have done it sooner.
And when you walk into C.Jeff Witzet, he will walk you

(02:33:31):
war. Sean Salisbury on Sports Talkseven ninety yesterday, Not so good for
the Astros. Josh Hader blew anothersave. Not good man, he just
has n He's just been average sofar. That's your ninety five million dollar
closer. Do you one hundred percenttrust at the end of a game?
(02:33:52):
If this was a postseason, you'dfeel good. Nope. You know who
I would feel good about in theninth in the post season and postseason only.
I'll bray you and Ryan Presley.Ryan Presley is really good in the
post I'm gonna last postseason. Yes, I don't think that's that's the answer
is not to move him into thenine ninth inning. Josh Hater just has
to figure it out. You gottabe better, and don't haven't we heard
(02:34:15):
to say you just gotta figure Steve. I think Steve Sparks has made that
comment before, not just on Hater, on anybody. At some point in
time, you just gotta you justgotta work through your stuff and get better.
Yeah, talking about hitting and stuff. Sometimes you just got to coach
him up and the player's got tofocus on it and got to go to
work. Sometimes there's no uh,you know, we're always looking for a
either a scientific answer. If it'salways mechanics are always say sometimes you're just
(02:34:37):
going through. You gotta you gottagut it out right and get better.
And Josh, Hater, I can'tmy closer's feelings. I don't think he's
one of those guys that's feelings gettingthe wet hope. Not. My closer
almost has to be immune to thatstuff, right. Yeah. It's like
a corner in football that you getbeat in the first inning, dude,
who doesn't the greatest of them all? And then you come back and you
(02:35:00):
know, you throw, you walkthe first bat, and then you go
strike out, strikeout, strikeout. With a corner, you get beat by
a receiver, throw a touchdown overthe top. It's like, okay,
if you were if you have amentality of oh my gosh, you lose
confidence. The corner position covering thosegreat wide receivers is not the position to
be in. That's not for thefaint of heart. And neither is close
a role. And he's got toget back to being it because listen,
(02:35:20):
they cannot win a World Series withoutbeing able to close out games because other
teams are going to score and putpressure on you, and you're going to
also be in low scoring games towhere you have to close. You just
have to do your thing, andwe're used to him doing it, and
this year it's been he's been aDow Jones or as has the eighth inning
part of it as well. Andthat combination's got to be that combination should
(02:35:41):
be the best in the league.Yeah, it really should. Seven eight
nine, you should be the bestin baseball. Actually, those three I
believe. That's why I said seveneight nine. I believe it's the best
in baseball. I put it thisway on paper, going in, it
should be. The results are goingto have to match it, because this
team has now started without their bestall around player, and without there,
(02:36:03):
without ver Lander, have closed thegap to a point. Now it's one
series away and that's a good thing. And and you lose one and that's
Okay, the question now that thething that I'm looking for. If tomorrow
night you're in a closer situation, you run Hater's ass right back out there
and then he you know, thenhe's got to go do his thing.
That's just the closure mentality has tohave that just has It seems like to
(02:36:24):
me like he his fastball doesn't havethe life like it did last year.
I mean like he was pumping itup at ninety eight all the time.
His uh is it like late jumpand stuff? Yeah, like his late
life. Yeah, I'm with you. I just and if it does,
I mean he is a couple oftimes thrown pitches that were who was it
(02:36:50):
for Seattle? That homer the catcher? Yeah, Christian Vasquez was no Seattle?
Oh was it wasn't That? Wasn'tit then? As it was his
name? Oh my gosh, I'mlosing my mind. But didn't he Homer
off? Wasn't that the one off? Hater? Yes, Homeward, but
a pitch that he could drive rightIf it feels to me, you just
can't. You can't throw a pitcher. You can't throw a hitters a hitter's
(02:37:13):
pitch and give them a chance. That's to me, he's always stayed out
of When he's been at his best, he has made you chase hive stuff,
you know, high fast balls wherehe's been elevated in the strike zone
as a second pitch to get youout. He's got great stuff, But
these guys can hit anything in theirzone if there's no movement. And this
(02:37:33):
guy consistent of you know who I'mtalking about, right, cal' it was
and he hit pulled that one inthe left the Yeah. So that just
and you know you're gonna face thoseyou're the closer, You're gonna face good
You're facing good lineups at the endof games. And the thing is,
though, they're gonna make you payif you miss a couple of times.
(02:37:54):
And it's happened a handful of timesthis year. And in order for the
Astros to be a World Series team, that position is gonna get needs to
get locked down. He's better thanwhat he's shown. Yeah, And so
he actually didn't blow the save.I lost the game. Excuse me.
He's three and five on the Uon the season, and he's allowed eight
homers and thirty nine innings this season, which is one point eighty five homers
(02:38:18):
allowed per nine innings. That's upfrom point vour point four to eight last
season. That's the most alarming thingabout his numbers. I think, yeah
to me, But but you're gonnabe faced with like I said, you're
coming in they want you. Youknow you're gonna face is. You're gonna
get some losses and you're gonna blowsome saves. But man, do I
need them. That guy to beas tough as there is when it comes
(02:38:39):
to mental in between the years.Right, But like you said, you
can throw it a hundred, Bryan, if there's no movement, you're not
throwing it where you want to throwit. They'll hit it. That's that
to you. You're talking about thatlate life with jumping movement, right,
and staying out of pitcher's wheelhouse, and that I mean out of hitter's wheelhouse,
should I say, And throwing pitchesyou want to get people out with
and making them go get them rightnow. A couple of times this year,
(02:39:01):
a handful of times, he's throwingpitches that these hitters can do what
they want to do with and that'snormally not been him when he's had success.
Yeah, he said he was tryingto go up and in with a
ninety six mon hour sinker that woundup over the middle of the plate.
When you miss that, that's whathappens. You go up and elevate and
they're you know what are when you'refacing you know, Hayter, what is
(02:39:22):
your number one thing? That's beenhis strengthen the past high cheese right,
cheddar as you like to call it. But he wanted to go would you
say he wanted to throw a sinkerup and in at ninety six that he
said, yep, that's a lot. That's a lot of that's a lot
of mustard on a sinker as well, and when you miss it, it
hovers right and those guys are gonnakill it even Would you consider Vascus a
(02:39:45):
great hitter? No, that's whatI mean. If it's a great hitter,
the punishment most of the time. But he's just missed on some this
year. But guess what you're lockedinto, Brian. This is what you
got, dude. So you thinkwe're changing that position, they're not doing
anything with he He's gonna be closingout gains rest of the year. Yeah,
I gotta figure it out, that'sright. Gotta be back to when
it comes down. You just gotto figure it out, and I'm going
(02:40:05):
to try to trust that he can, because when he's good, he's really
damn good. Right, But there'sgotta be less inconsistency there, which is
at times been the story of theteam. But this last month they've been
really frigging good. Yeah, yep, they're back home tomorrow night against the
Marlins. All right, that's gonnado it for the Shawn Salisbury show Man.
Be safe getting home now you aswell. Good stuff, yep,
(02:40:28):
good stuff. Hope everybody hangs inthere today on a tough day here in
the city of Houston as Hurricane Barrelmakes its way through the city. Get
to power back, Stay safe outthere, everyone, Thank you for listening.
We're back tomorrow morning at six am. Don't go anywhere. Next up
we'll standing northfully Chris Cordy coming outnext to Spurs Stalk seven to eighty
