Speaker 1 (00:00):
There you go, Robert Ford saying it all. Astro is
able to take down the Cardinals last night. Rubber game
coming up this afternoon, and the Rockets, they know exactly
who they have Sunday Game one of the Western Conference Playoffs.
It is the Warriors. And with that we say away
we go here. Good morning on the Sean Salisbury Show.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
Good morning, Warriors, Come out to play?

Speaker 3 (00:23):
Ye Warriors, Yeah, come out to play.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
You know the cut I was gonna you just you
just forgot the coke bottles or the beer bottles or whatever.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
That. The guys, how we doing my fingers? You're doing
it with my thumb and like the three fingers other
than your pinky. Yeah, there's there's a bunch of guys
out there, you know, shirtless with vests on that.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
They they're staying away from the Uh let's see. Give
me some of the other gang names in that show
with the ones who ran around in the pinstripe Yankee
over there, the baseball the the baseball Furies.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Is that who they were?

Speaker 3 (00:56):
The baseball bat Hey, tripley, could you pull out because
I don't think you.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
This matters because's not music, right, Uh?

Speaker 3 (01:02):
Pull up the guy that says, just say, Warriors come
out to play. All We'll get to that. So they're
coming out to play.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
I was gonna say it should be the first one
up there. But yeah, I mean it's if nothing else,
it is a chance. And I'm sure that all the
national talking heads are going to have all is there
a mental block for the Rockets to get over to
beat these guys? Well, Harden's not on this team, Bingo,
Chris Paul is not on this team.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
Russ Westbrook's not on this team. Yeah, they're Eric Gordon,
That's exactly right. Yeah, so I think they're you know
what most of these kids were, what shooting jump shots
in high school?

Speaker 2 (01:37):
You know, freshman, sophomore.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
I mean a lot of them were when when that
was the the constant talk, new coach, new front office,
knew everything. For the most part, I think I think
that most of them are like, I don't have no idea.
I mean, I watched it, but that wasn't a part.
I wasn't on payroll, Right, that's my favorite thing. Well
can they get over it?

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Well?

Speaker 3 (01:59):
Yeah, I mean the fact that I was fifteen when
it happened as a player, I'm not real worried about
can they get over the bottom line is it didn't
a matter of woh they got them because it's Golden
State and the Rockets, and simply Golden State's been better okay,
and we'll find out if they are here. They played
their way in and there they're a dangerous team to
play their way in on the play in game again,

(02:20):
they really are. And you know, we know what Steph
Curry brings to the table. But I'm gonna tell you what,
I'm not sure the Golden State Warriors are overly comfortable
with this series either. So they got some stuff to
deal with because this is a difference rock different Rockets
team with a different energy.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
Well, and it's also the you know you brought up
the Warriors, but I'll go another show example that I
brought up before. You gotta be Walter white Man. You
are the danger like things are different now. And I
mean that was a team back then that they lived
by the three, they died by the three. That you
defensively had your shortcomings. So it allowed for Steph Curry

(02:55):
and Klay Thompson and all these other guys to get going.
I think that Ima Doka, I mean part of you know,
like we talked about with Kelvin Sampson. You create a culture,
and his culture here is don't take any blank from anyone, right.
And I think the last time that the Rockets went
out to Golden State and took on this team, I
think they kind of unlocked something like they're like, these

(03:15):
guys aren't so bad.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
Yeah, you got another team.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
You got to get over the team that this this
team ain't winning seventy plus games, right, this is I mean,
it's different and the you know, the the aur of
Golden State and Steph Curry and Draymond Green because they're
still there, but there's been changes with them as well,
and you can send a message and the truth is
you're right, makes you I mean, listen, it's okay for

(03:38):
Golden State to feel like this is a different Rockets
team as well, different franchise, different culture, the way they're
doing things, and they're going to contest more shots than
the team to the past. And sure, I both know
that when you were playing with the Harden, you were
playing with four guys defensively if you just were no, yeah,
and and so you're you're dealing with that, I'm not
good now, is Golden State capble winnings here. Obviously they are,

(04:01):
there's no question about that. But I don't think seven
years ago, five years ago, four years ago has anything
to do with this. The bottom line is, contain the
shooter and test those shots, get on the backboards and
play that play defense like the head coaches encourage you
what you to And you know, both coaches in this

(04:21):
series are Greg Popovich, you know, pupils and so there's
gonna be a philosophy on it both And here's what
happens when the Warriors and the Rockets get together.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
Come out to play.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
Yeah, come out to.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Come out to play.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
The Warriors come out to play. I mean we're ready.
I mean the Rockets are ready for him. I think
that's how they're walking into the arena.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
I would think. So, I mean, yeah, do is gonna
come out? Yeah? Yeah, here Warriors to play. He doesn't
fit him, does it?

Speaker 3 (05:08):
No?

Speaker 1 (05:08):
I was gonna say, I don't think you want the
team leader to do that. I think that probably Steven
Adams would be a good one, Like, you.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
Know, yeah, Little's intimidating. Sure, he's I mean obviously the
other guy was a little you know little and the
guy the last the one guy who wasn't gonna fight.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
Not the guy that played Sully on Commando.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
Yeah, damn right, you know did Schwartzeger had to chase
down the l X and the.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Rest of it.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
Yeah, Sully, remember I told you I'd kill you last Yes,
you did.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
That's that's him or the guy on that killed Chris
rock in the Longest Yard.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Oh that's right. Yeah, remember he said a cell on fire?

Speaker 1 (05:44):
Yeah right, yeah, caretaker yep, r P caretaker yep.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
So yeah, that was that was one of his first
big roles, I think. Yeah, but yeah, that was Sully.
That's exactly right. And Schwartzenegger put it on him ially
got his ass, Yeah, after he is the guy on
the plane. Is that Raydon Chong Too's daughter, Yeah, from
Cheech and Chong. So yeah, man, I I think this
is a great challenge for the for the Rockets, but

(06:11):
I also know that they can send a loud message
that will echo through the West and sounds cheesy, but
send a loud message in this series. And I know
there's some who say they're well, they're gonna get in
and they're get eliminated. I'm not so sure that I
think this team can compete in this series. So I'm
looking forward to it, and it it'll be good psychologically

(06:32):
for them too.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
If they can get through, this would be a good test.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
This is going to be hot takey radio. And I
say that tongue in cheek because it's not They're all
good from here on allis Oh yeah, they're they're they're
all really good. So yeah, if you're able to get
through this one, then you would get the winner of
the three sixth series, which I don't have the standings
in front of me, but I think that's the Lakers.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
I think it is.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
So, I mean, look the other if we're gonna keep winning,
you're going to see good one. You're you're going to
see this well you want to avoid them? Well most
of the time, Dan, what I know as you push
into the seven game series mode, right as a series,
as the playoffs go along, most of the time, see
like a three game series or a one They used

(07:14):
to have three game series and I can remember you
went quick too. I mean, sometimes it's not the best
team who wins. Right, get on a shooting role, somebody
files out and now you're chasing in game two and
oh my gosh, we didn't even get a chance to breathe, listen,
and then you see like an NBA finals. A couple
of years ago, we discussed the on a on a
show in Tripole and I were discussing it is when

(07:36):
we were talking about Budenholzer, right when he was what
the Bucks head coach when they won a world championship,
and what a year or two later that he's fired.
And now the very team that he won a championship
against was the Sons, if I'm not mistaken, correct, and
then he was their coach and now they fired him.
You know, we're talking about player empowerment. Well, in that series,
if you remember, the Sons were up to oh right,

(07:59):
and then y took over and they couldn't defend him,
and he wore out Kamenski and the whole group and
they kicked their ass, right, I mean that whole I
mean they just could not defend him on the other end,
and the honest took over and they went and won
the NBA Championship.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
I'm pretty sure that was the same year.

Speaker 3 (08:11):
And then Boodenholzer a few years later would have many
coach in the Suns, right if I'm if I think
that time triply. That's the timeline, we said, right, Budenholzer
was the coach when Milwaukee won their championship. Core yeah
with the box, right exactly. But they were down two
to zero in the series and we thought all sons
are going to win and then it went to hell
in a handbasket.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
Right.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
Well, it's the same thing here. You're eventually in a
seven game series, normally the better team wins normally. Now
there are the aberrations that go with it's not always,
but in truth, if you look at a team right
like right now, if the Dodgers were getting ready to
play a seven or the Padres the way they're playing,
playing a seven game series against the Seattle Marinis, who.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
Would you pick.

Speaker 3 (08:49):
Of course you're going to pick the Dodgers because you
think they're the best team. Now, the aberration is that
somebody you have two bad games in a row and
you're chasing. Then then then a guy you know gets
the flu and doesn't play in game three. You know,
all those things that have to come to wuition. But
in a long series, as the playoffs go along, so
you're talking about they're all good, you're gonna so you
have to you go by and say, okay, if we
face the top seed in each series.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
We were in for a battle.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
If you face the team they're beat, you're in for
a battle, right, So you just normally though, when you
settle in in seven game series, when the Celtics and
the Lakers in the eighties showtime and that we're playing
in a long series, you had to do something really
special to knock them out right, Sure, and it happened.
So you'd much rather have old school three game or
a five game series.

Speaker 2 (09:31):
We have an opportunity to get at them. Seven game series.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
Eventually the best team wins, so you get a chance
to prove if you really do belong. It's not one
of those lucky you got beat by a buzzer beater
and single elimination NC to a tournament. Unlike the playing game. Now,
it's let's go see what happens. Is a series go
and you get you know, to the back end, So
it doesn't matter if you get them an hour later.
You're gonna face the best teams because most times in
a long series that team wins.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
And to your points, I mean defense wins, and I
understand what the Rock every s their shortcomings are offensively,
but I mean you brought up those Milwaukee Buck teams.
This Rockets team has a lot of similar characteristics because
I mean, everybody focuses on Giannis and for the right reasons,
but I mean think about guys like Bobby Portis and
guys like Pat Connaton. I mean, other guys that can

(10:16):
almost kind of be like the hockey.

Speaker 3 (10:18):
Example that came up big in that series. Who's the
number two score? I'm Louise Lilton. Yeah, there you go.
Yeah yeah, And he was in that series in a
couple of games he was like that, Well, think about
the Kawai series. Yeah when when when when they won
it in Toronto, same way you had. Van Vliet was
a part of it. You started to looking around and

(10:38):
their their other score, the skinny small forward.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
Yeah, there you go.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
Siakam another one kind of reminded me of middle you know,
take over, become almost a star and get paid on
your own where you're a number two, but man, you
need you for a number one.

Speaker 2 (10:52):
That night.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
Remember when Drew Holliday and they played against Portland and
and uh uh goshtam veterans. I'm on the young guys now,
I can't even remember what's my guy in Portland? Who
was there is not there anymore their best player for Tridge, No,
he's not there anymore. Dame Lillard and Dame I'm so
focused on the Rockets. But when Damon if you remember

(11:14):
in that shorter series, in the series when he was
in New Orleans is Drew Holliday destroyed, destroyed him on
the defensive end. And he had like thirty and forty
or the thirties and forties in back to back games.
So you'll get those guys. But he defended him. You
defended him and then the other guy. It's a lot
of times that your focus as you had mentioned, the

(11:36):
Middletons and the Van Vlietz and the Sea Okhams and
the Drew Hollidays, depending on both ends. And he really
made it tough on Dame Lillard in the series on
both ends, and the elimination in that one. So it
defense will travel, it always does. And remember wasn't at
the time. Giannis was also, I mean, we were considering him.

(11:58):
He won Defensive Player of the Year or was first
team All Defense around that time.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
Sure he ramped his side of the court up too.

Speaker 3 (12:05):
If you're gonna win the whole thing, you better defend
that's just the way it is because everybody can score.

Speaker 1 (12:10):
Yeah, I mean, and you know to your points. I
mean this becomes kind of a single single game season
at this point. I mean, you know, you win a game,
all right, that's great, that's one. Then you got to
put two together, you got to put three, you got
to put four, and then here's the beauty of it,
you got to do it all over again. And then
you got to do it again, and then if you're
lucky enough to get there at the end, you got
to do it all at the end. So, I mean,

(12:32):
this is the fun These are the fun times. This
is what we look forward. Why you want this, why
you get paid and want to do it?

Speaker 3 (12:37):
Yeah, this is now the other guys get to stay
at home and watch the big boys playing. Go.

Speaker 2 (12:42):
Yeah, I mean I like it.

Speaker 1 (12:43):
Now. Imagine how many teams out there would be willing
to switch spots right now with the rockets.

Speaker 3 (12:48):
So but what you can't take a deep breath. Well,
we made it to the playoffs. There's been a minute
we got you know, we're the two seed. Man, We're
good to go. Yeah, you can't. You can't get that.
I mean good to go, yes, but can't get caught
up in the fact that what happen in the regular
seas because there's new intensity and it is and but
you should walk as if you belong because they've earned it.

(13:08):
But it's just getting started now. It is just getting
started now. So no time to take a sigh of
relief and say we're on house money. No, you go
take care of your business now, because house money sometimes
doesn't come back, you know what I mean, sure, and
you may not get it again for ten years, and
because you haven't been in it and then say, okay,
we've arrived. You haven't arrived. You're in the playoffs, and
now the expectations have raised.

Speaker 1 (13:29):
Well, I mean, and you know, Demiko Ryans has the
same We didn't come this far just to get this far.
I'm pretty sure that I may Doka cut from the
same cloth. And even hearing from some of the Rockets
players of being in this situation, they feel the exact
same way. So Sunday eight thirty over at Toyota Center,
that's when the Western Conference playoffs get started. We're a
week away from the NFL Draft. Two Texans currently slated

(13:51):
the pick twenty fifth overall. We'll get into some of
them as the show continues. You want to weigh in
on the phone line someone three two one two five
seven ninety seven one three two one two five seven nine.
Let's get into some astros though. Hunter Brown, oh man,
he's proven us right again and again and again, and
we are massive fans. We'll talk about it right here.
